Computer unable to wake up from sleep, and crashes.

Question: Computer unable to wake up from sleep, and crashes.

This issue has been going on for about 6 months now and I am pretty stumped. From what I can tell, ntoskrnl.exe is not letting my computer wake up from sleep or go to sleep. I have attached all the .dmp files and what not for you to look at.
I could really use some help!
Thanks in advanced!

Preferred Solution: Computer unable to wake up from sleep, and crashes.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I put my computer in sleep mode, it won't 'wake up'. I have to manually turn off the computer and then start it up again. This has happened twice. I'm not putting it into sleep mode until I find out what's wrong and that's exasperating as I normally leave my computer on all day so I can periodically play my games.

Answer:Computer won't 'wake up' after sleep mode with Windows 10, how can I wake it?

Dear all, First time posting here. Being bugged with this problem for quite long. When i leave my notebook on which is a HP Pavilion dm4-1106tx Entertainment Notebook PC it goes to sleep as usual, however after a long period of time when i try wake it up by tapping any keys on the keyboard and moving or clicking the mouse the display will never come up.  What i noticed is that the capslock key and the HP logo on the back of the screen will blink no matter what i do will not bring up the display, last resort is to unplug the power cable, flip over the notebook and remove the battery and after few seconds put the battery back on, restart the notebook and windows 7 will say system did not shutdown properly...... i will select the normal restart. Unplugging the battery seems to be the only way for me to reset the notebook. I absolutely no clue what is wrong with it....Anyone has any idea please let me know the solution... Thank you.

I have a HTPC built on windows 8.1.
I use a wireless keyboard and a remote to control the pc.
If I place the PC into stand by putting it into sleep I can wake it within a few minutes or up to an hour or so.

However, if I leave the pc in this state overnight and I try to wake it with the remote in the morning it only partially succeeds.
The power light comes on. The HD light does not nor does a signal go through the hdmi cable to my tv.
it appears that neither the remote, wifi keyboard, usb keyboard or usb mouse can bring it completely to a waking state.

My only solution is to do a hard restart, which is corrupting my media files.

I'm told there are some issues with intel chips regarding sleep. I am running a 4130T intel I3 cpu on a gigabyte motherboard.

Is there a fix for this?

I recently bought a new PORTEGE Z30T-A PT24CE-01600EN5
upgreaded to OS Version Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro 6.3.9600 with its CDs.

I cannot wake up the computer from sleep by any key but the power button.

TOSHIBA utility has opton for that which suposed to set it so.
I try the follwing:

Desktop assist---> System settings---> Keyboard

Here I enable the only option which claims it will power on the machine from sleep
by pressing any key.

But the machine never responds to any key but the power button.

Do any of you guys have the same problem? Any workaround?

Answer:Portege Z30T-A unable to wake up from sleep by any key

Hi

Are you sure you set the notebook to SLEEP mode and not HIBERNATION mode?
In my case the option works properly if the unit is set to SLEEP mode.
In case of Hibernation mode, I have to press power button to wake up the unit

If you are experiencing the S10 with Vista crashing upon resume/wake up from LONG TERM sleep/suspend/hibernation there is some help from Microsoft here: Microsoft KB Microsoft KB1 The second article is more detailed in identifying the correct registry key. This problem with the S10 seems related to the usbvideo.sys driver used by the built-in Lenovo webcam so you have to find the registry key in your S10 associated with the webcam. According to the articles it is a problem with Vista and it exists in other laptops/desktops and other usb devices. These articles may also help if you are experiencing this issue with WIN7.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro T130 running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

After installing wireless manager update of September 29th, as recommended by Tempro, I' m experiencing problems with waking up from sleep mode. Most of the times my laptop simply doesn't wake up anymore and all I can do is to hard switch off and switch on again. I've tried solving the problem by changing the advanced sleep mode configuration options, and it seemed to work for a while, but problems restarted again.

Please help me with this issue, it's terribly annoying having to switch off and power on again every time my laptop goes in sleep mode, not to mention the fact that I've to take care not to leave something unsaved, not to lose data.

Thanks in advance.

I have a Laptop (Lenovo G40-70), OS was Windows 8.1 and then I upgrade it on Windows 10 and now I cannot wake up my computer from sleep mode.

I read on internet I just need to update my Intel graphic card adapter, then it fixed the problem it able to wake up after setting in sleep mode. Intel graphics adapter is now visible in system tray means it?s running.
But once I shutdown or restart the computer, the Intel graphic adapter is unable to load or run. I check in system tray and services. Problem occurred, which is unable to awake after setting in sleep mode.

Hoping on positive response.

Answer:Upgraded OS to Windows 10 Unable to wake Up from sleep mode.

Hello,
As I understand it you have upgraded you driver, which solves the sleep problem, until you restart.

Windows 10 maintains your basic system drivers. If you install a version not approved by Uncle MS it will be quickly replaced.
If you wish to keep your driver and stop MS changing it, you have to take special action.

I recently purchased 3 Dell Inspiron 3650 desktops running Windows 7 Pro for work.
I have having issues where the desktop won't wake up after going into sleep mode.  No input from mouse or keyboard wakes it.  Pushing power button quickly/lightly on chassis just causes the computer to reset/crash.
I have looked at BIOS settings, and there is no "USB Wake support" option listed under power options.
Clicking in "device manager> power options > USB settings> USB selective suspend setting" and changing from enable to disable doesn't help either.

I have a Lenovo Edge 15 laptop. It came with a lot of bloatware, so I completed a fresh installation of Windows 8.1. Unfortunately, it appears that I am now missing a driver or program to allow my computer to wake up from sleep. Completely restarting my computer appears to be my only option from sleep mode.

I reached out to Lenovo to inquire which program or driver I might be missing, but was informed that they could not possibly memorize every driver on every computer, so they won't make any suggestions. I understand that y'all also don't memorize every program and driver, but if you have any suggestions on how I might restore my sleep and waking functionality, I'd appreciate it very much.

(If you have any suggestions on other important programs or drivers that need to be freshly installed also, I'm completely open to those suggestions too.)

Thanks!

Answer:Unable to Wake From Sleep After a Clean Install of Windows 8.1

Hi

Weird as solution I find is if you allow your PC to sleep press the power button quickly once and dah dah!
Some of the issues are Wireless and USB etc going into power save mode, they don't like to wake up at times...

But all of the above also worth a look as I have done the same over the years.

I have two Zotac ZBox CI320 Nano PCs, both running Windows 7 HP, both with the same problem...

Integrated graphics is Intel HD Graphics. Monitor is connected via HDMI. Everything is fine until the system goes to sleep or the display times out. Then, when I try to wake up the machine/display, I get "HDMI NO SIGNAL". (Using VNC from my iMac, everything works but the screen attached to the PC is still black. With Windows XP Pro, I could waken the computer by initiating a Remote Desktop Connection to it. After installing Windows 8 Pro on same hardware, Remote Desktop works fine when the computer is awake but is unable to wake the computer from a sleep state.
I have tried all combinations of Power Management settings under NIC Properties and confirmed that wake on pattern match and wake on magic packet are enabled. Under advanced power management, disabling hibernation and/or turning off hybrid sleep make no difference. With the default Microsoft/Broadcom NIC driver for Windows 8, whenever the computer sleeps, it always powers off the NIC - and once the NIC has been powered off it is unable to wake the computer on receipt of traffic.
Hardware is HP DC5700 SFF core 2 duo. NIC is Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet. BIOS power management settings are configured to support wake up on LAN.

Answer:Unable to wake from Sleep state with Remote Desktop

I resolved this issue myself. Following is a summary of what I did:
1. From the command prompt enter netsh interface ipv4 show interfaces . This will list all available network interfaces. Note the index (labeled Idx ) of the target network adapter. Now enter
netsh interface ipv4 set interface [index] forcearpndwolpattern=enabled to force the network adapter to wake on Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) and Neighbor Solicitation (NS) messages. If the command is successful, OK is returned.
2. Under the Driver tab of NIC Properties, click Update Driver and manually force the installation of Broadcom driver version 14.8.1.13 dated 2/23/2012.
3. Under the Power Management tab of NIC Properties, check the box for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", check the box for "Allow this device to wake the computer" and uncheck the box for "Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer". Click OK.
4. Reboot and then check Power Management tab of NIC Properties and confirm that the settings applied in step 3 above are persistent.
The above assumes the operating system is Windows 8 Pro, the network adaptor is a Broadcom Netxtreme Gigabit adaptor and that all other settings required for Remote Desktop to function have already been correctly applied.
After completing the above steps, when the computer sleeps there will be one green led and one amber led on the NIC versus both green when the computer is awake. The computer will now waken ... Read more

My PC is fairly new and I'm having problems with slow shutdowns/restarts and slow sleep/wakes. Recently it seems to fail waking altogether and restarts after a while instead. Usually during waking I just have a black screen for a long time before the reset/restart but sometimes I see the Windows log-in screen but it's unresponsive.
The problem predates my CPU undervolting and doesn't seem to change when I switch RAM settings back to Auto instead of XMP (I my RAM necessitates some kind of overclock in order to function at its rated speed).

Can anyone advise how to proceed? Thanks.

I just installed a new HDD into my old Inspiron 15r n5010 laptop which I am giving to my sister for Christmas and took my old SSD out for my main computer. When I was testing the new HDD in my laptop, I would put it to sleep and when I try to wake it back up it did its little thing where it went to a lit black screen as it has always done, making me think that it is about to come on, but then it would shut down after about 15 seconds.

Anyone know anything about this? For now I guess I can just set it to never go to sleep as a temp solution :/

*Edit* clarified which computer is not working.

Answer:Computer goes to sleep, but can't wake up.

Are we talking about the "main computer" in which you installed the SSD? If so, was there another HDD in that system? When installing the SSD, assuming that it's the primary drive, did you reformat and reinstall the OS?

So this is my current problem: ever since I upgraded to an SSD and did a clean install of windows 10, I can't wake up my computer from sleep. On my old hard drive I did not have this problem. Whenever the screen times out, my mouse and keyboard are unresponsive and nothing I do will wake up the screen. My only option is to use the computer's power button to turn it off and then on. The computer on/off indicator is solid meaning the actual computer isn't in sleep, just my two monitors are black. In addition, when I manually put the computer into sleep it doesn't actually sleep the computer; once again, only my monitors go black and mouse/keyboard don't work. I've looked around for fixes to this problem, but so far I haven't found anything that works.

EDIT: The cause of the problem might be that I installed windows using a usb and booting from it initially as an efi device. My system has an efi partition, and when I installed windows on my brother's computer which is identical to mine using the usb normally, his computer can sleep/shut down normally. Any fixes for this?

I hear the computer turn back on and the light is on, but the screen is still black. I have to do a hard shut down. When it's back on, it's like it woke up from sleep mode, not a fresh restart.

This was on Windows 10 and I thought it was my video card drivers. I reformatted back to Win7 today and install an older version of my video driver. The problem is still happening; wasn't like this before.

I tried to update my BIOS a while back and my computer wouldn't load into Windows. I reset the batter and it was fine. Would that have something to do with this?

Answer:Computer won't wake from sleep

Hiyya Chaoz mate it sounds very much like to me the swap back didn't go quite as you thought it might have done.

Now if you had 10 on the drive just how did you format the drive. Personally I would have used one of the methods / programs that clean the drive before I reinstalled 7. We would also like to know what 7 media you have if any because there is a lack of specs for your machine
See

SYSTEM SPECS

mate can we have some system specs please as what you have postedgives us not that much to work with and given there are so many manufacturersof components and configurations that do influence what goes on within anygiven machine and OS.

I hear the computer turn back on and the light is on, but the screen is still black. My mouse and keyboard are unresponsive (can't turn backlight on). I have to do a hard shut down. When it's back on, it's like it woke up from sleep mode, not a fresh restart.

This just started happening today I think so I did a system restore, but the problem persists. The only thing I remember doing today was updating my ATI drivers.

I accidentally clicked on the switch button next to lock in the start menu, and the screen went off, i tried every button on the keyboard and cannot get the computer to wake up. i hold down the power button for a few seconds to turn off the computer, and when i turn the computer back on, the fan starts running and the led light on, but still no screen, like its still in the sleep mode. please help. what else can i try to get it back on?

Answer:please help! computer won't wake up after sleep

My guess is that when you press the power button, it gets in sleep mode faster than you would expect, not turning really off.

Unplug the power cable, wait 3-4 seconds and plug the power cable back in.

Turn on your pc and try again to see what happens.

My computer (Desk Top Lenovo) has started going into what I think is sleep mode if I walk away for a few hours. It used to wake up when I touched any key. Now it sounds like H/D starts up but then shuts down after a few seconds and then I need to shut off computer and restart it. I downloaded PC tools Spyware Doctor a few days ago and it scanned the H/D and other than some low level junk it reported no viruses found. It did work OK for 2 days after me downloading the PC tools software and running it but I have been trying so many things that I am not sure what actually help it for those couple days. I also ran the disk cleanup from Windows accessories and I had a lot of junk and it took care of that. I am not sure where to go from here other than take in to one of the local computer stores to figure it out. I thought I would give this a shot before doing that. Oh, I checked the device list to see if there were any conflicts and there were none showing. My email is:removed TIA, Sam in S.E. MichiganEDIT: Please no email addresses

I leave my computer on all the time. Lately, when I go to use it (and I move the mouse or tap a key on the keyboard) nothing happens. I can't wake up the computer no matter what I do. The only way to get back to normal is to do a force power off, wait for a minute or two then power on. If I power on right away after powering off, I hear the floppy drive make an abnormal noise but nothing comes up.

This computer is about less than a year old, running windows xp sp3, an AMD athlon 64 x2 dual core processor 4400+, 2.3GHz with 2Gb ram.

It does this every once in a while. It happened twice in the past 2 days. I'm not sure if it's something I left open before going into sleep mode or something else.

So the computer's been in sleep mode, usually for at least an hour. I do the usual thing to wake it up, move the mouse. After a simple movement fails, I try again, moving vigorously and clicking all the mouse buttons. I have also tried pressing all the keys on my keyboard.

None of this works and I have to restart the computer. Any idea why this could be happening?

Answer:Computer won't wake from Sleep Mode

Generally it's the result of a driver power management problem. Most commonly occurring when you have been forced to use a vista driver in place of a proper win 7 driver, as power states have changed a bit between the two.

I have an inspiron 1545 running windows 7 (x64) and I am having problems waking up my computer from sleep . Usually, when I put my computer to sleep, I have problems waking up my computer. The screen stays relatively dark when I move my mouse although I can see some light coming from the bottom part of the screen (so the screen seems to be on, just not showing anything sueful). When I try to press the space bar multiple times, my computer gives me a warning ding and it plays a sound when I insert or remove my usb mouse. I've had my computer for two years and the problem just started a week ago. I was wondering if anyone has any idea what the problem might be or what tests I should run to figure out the problem.

This used to never happen, then it happened rarely, and now it's happening at least twice a day. When I leave my computer (a vista, I wasn't sure where to put this) alone for to long, it often goes into sleep mode, or something like it, and won't wake up. The monitor light will blink blue as it does when it's asleep, or sometimes not be there at all and refuse to be turned on. Needless to say, the computer does not respond to any commands (that I know of) in this state and I have to wait for it to wake up randomly. This also often happens when I boot up the computer-the screen stays black throughout the startup process, and finally comes on around twenty minutes after starting the computer up.

What's going on? The tower appears to be working just fine but there's nothing on the screen. The whole thing has become very capricious.

Answer:Computer can't wake up from sleep mode

Hi Loading

It rather sounds like your computer is going into hibernation, rather than just standby or a sleep state. At those times when it won't wake to mouse or keyboard actions, try pushing the physical power button on your desktop's case once (just a quick, brief push should do --- don't hold it down long). If the system is in hibernation, it should then produce your desktop as it was when it went into hibernation [although you first might have to enter your password, if you have it set to prompt for a password on resumption from a standby, sleep, or hibernation state].

You can change your power-savings plan by using the Power applet in the Control Panel. A quick way to get there is simply to type powercfg.cpl into the Vista Search Box that is at the bottom of the Vista Start Menu - and then press your Enter key. Lots of choices there for you on how you want your system to behave for power-saving modes.

Here's a fairly decent troubleshooter for standby/sleep/hibernation problems --- Troubleshooting Microsoft Windows Vista Sleep and Hibernate

The twenty minute lag before showing a screen is downright scary. You shouldn't have to wait much more than perhaps 90 seconds on a reasonably tuned system (though Vista has been known to take as long as three minutes on system that have less than 2gb of system memory, and have a larger than average number of processes running at startup).

Most of the time it works fine. But once in a while nothing seems to wake up the computer. I've tired using the mouse, keyboard, turning off the monitor, opening the CD drive, and plugging in new USB peripherals. The monitor is on and reports no signal from the computer so it goes into power save.
There are no changes to the hardware or software between the times that it wakes up normally and times that it does not. This problem is infrequent and I do not know how to reproduce it. In order to use my computer again I have to hold down the power button on the cpu to get the computer to restart.
I've found another thread that indicates this is a long-standing problem with Dell computers and monitors.
Optiplex 3040, Windows 10, driver is Generic PNP monitor, Monitor is 2408WFPb, connected with HDMI
It seems like the problem is with the computer because the monitor has power and buttons on the monitor respond normally. Also nothing seems to wake up the computer. But I have had this  problem with this same monitor and an earlier Dell computer -- Optiplex 755.

Hi, I've recently been running into a problem -- I put my computer into sleep mode, and then when I press the power button to wake the computer, either the screen stays black and I have to do a forced reboot (holding down the power button), or it simply does a forced reboot automatically. This doesn't happen all the time, but I'd say probably 60% of the time that I want to wake my computer from sleep...and I haven't noticed a certain pattern of when it does and doesn't work. It has only been happening the last month or so, and has happened more often recently. I got a new battery for my laptop about a month ago, so that may have corresponded to when this problem started, I can't 100% remember.

I have an HP Compaq 8710w laptop with Windows 7 Professional (32-bit). I have updated all the drivers already (literally went through every device in Device Manager and tried finding updates for each), and the issue is still happening. What's the next step I should take? Thanks in advance!

hi i woke up this morning to find my computer in sleep mode as usual however when i move my mouse to wake it up as normal nothing happens , my mouse which is a razer naga wakes up and lights up but my computer and keyboard show no change, i tried pressing the power button and reset button but nothing happened.
Eventually i resorted to turning off the power to the tower until the blue power light stopped blinking and then managed to boot the pc up, when it did boot up it had everything open from last time as if i had just woken it up as normal , i shut down the computer normally to see if that may fix the problem but to no avail.
I am able to reproduce the problem by manually selecting go to sleep on the shut down screen.
Recently i have been having some problems which playing guild wars 2 with the bsod which i posted here a week ago Bluescreen during GW2
I updated my graphics card driver to the latest beta drivers the day i posted that thread and since then only had the game crash once and i suspect that was due to overheating as i have my pc in a very small stuffy room and i remember it being uncomfortably hot that evening since then i keep the windows open and had the side plate fo the case removed to give it more circulation for a while.
Im really not sure what causeing this problem the pc runs fine when its up and running and it boot up from full shut down no sweat its just this odd sleep mode problem.
thank you for your time.

I've been having this problem for awhille -- approximately 30-50% of the time, when I put my computer in sleep mode and try waking it up, it simply doesn't wake up. I hear it turn on (fan starts running, etc.) but the screen is black (forced to hold down power button to reboot)...or it goes to the startup screen (but won't finish starting up -- have to hold down power button to reboot).

I have an HP Compaq 8710w laptop with Windows 7 Professional (32-bit).

Here is what I have done already to try to fix it:

-Updated drivers
-Tried turning off wireless before putting to sleep
-Changed power plan from "High Performance" to "Balanced".

No dice. Any other ideas?

Built this simple system for wife and kid.

Gigabyte 7VKMLS ver 3.0
AMD Duron 1 gig processor
1 gig of memory
Two 20 gig hard drives
1 multi optical drive (DVD, CD, etc)
Windows XP home edition

System has always run well, until I noticed the CPU cooler fan had started to rattle. So I cleaned the heat sink fins, replaced the cooler fan, and fired her up. BUT after awhile, (usually 15-30 minutes), and after the screen saver has kicked in (5 min) the screen goes black, and the system will not respond. If I hit a key the HD light comes on, but that is about it. When I shut the system down, and try to reboot, I get absolutely nothing, no POST, nada. IF I let the system sit overnight, it will reboot the next morning. Checked in the BIOS hardware monitoring section, and CPU temp and speed never rise about 60 C, (shutdown is 110C). Checked Windows, and power scheme is set for nothing to shut down, ever (monitor, HD, etc), and its not set to hibernate. Problem did not occur until I opened the case and replace the CPU cooler fan.

Thanx-zalax

Answer:Computer goes to sleep and won’t wake up.

When your system goes into the "sleep mode" and you're not able to power it back up until the next day. Have you tried unplugging the power, then pressing the power switch to flush out any power "locked" in the system. Then plugging it back and and turning it back on?

You may have a failing motherboard if your temps aren't out of the ordinary.

EDIT: Check your motherboard for extended capacitors.

I have a customer's PC that has an Athlon XP Thoroughbred 1200 with 1.5 GB PC2100 memory, and an Abit motherboard, etc.

It boots up fine and will run sometimes only 30 seconds and sometimes 20 minutes when it gets to Windows XP, but then the computer goes into standby or hibernation or something by itself. I am going to try to look at power management in the control panel if I can get there before it goes to sleep again this time.

Why is it doing this? It will actually go into whatever mode it goes into while I am working on it. It isn't idle. And the computer doesn't actually power off. The monitor just says "Going to sleep," and the keyboard lights turn off. The CD tray will still open and all the fans and such in the PC are still going, so I wonder if it's just Windows being stupid.

Any ideas?

Did you take a look in the Screen safety via properties for the Screen?
My suggestion in this is: Right click on desktop, than property ---- further the tab page Screen Safety.
When you have do this, than you choose the tab energy and clicking that.
Below in that menu see you System in Standby and System in sleep.
If it is correct than is this 2 activated, deactivated this.
You have also the possibility for finality this function for ever.
Goto Start, this computer------choose management via right click, than device management, goto network adapters,
you see now 2 function: 1394 network card and Realtek or whatever fast Ethernet NIC; select this and right click with mouse.
Than choose you properties, goto energy management, you will see now the next remarkable: This computer have the permission for take off the device out the Standby function.
Know you what, I think that when you have check this all and deactivated, your problem is solved.

If I were to let my computer go into sleep mode, if I let it go alll the way into it, I cant wake it up without having to turn it off and back on and having to log back in, not to mention losing open browser windows/tabs, and any other work.
Same with Hibernation, except, I cant stop that....
The simple answer would be to set it to not go into sleep or hibernation, but thats not a solution, just a temporary remedy.

Does anybody know some possible causes or other reasons?
or at least how to fix it?
I know Im clueless.
Edit:
Some extra details.
When I try to wake it from hibernation, my laptops lights will go on. All but the screen, and I know its not a monitor problem. Same thing with sleep mode, The lights will stop blinking, and be on, but the screens just blank.

Answer:Computer doesnt wake up from Sleep/Hibernation

Hello ComputerTalk-Jayson,Hybrid mode is to have the computer go to sleep first, then after the time you set will go into hibernation. That is why it is taking a bit longer since your computer is resuming from hibernation and not sleep. For you what you want, you would need to set your Power Plan settings to "Sleep" and turn off "Hybrid" and "Hibernate" like in the recommended "Sleep" settings in the tutorial below. Afterwards, the computer should wake up from sleep and be ready to go in a second or two.Power Plan Settings ChangeHope this helps,Max

It happens if I try to wake it through the keyboard or mouse. I've reduced the start up programs, and removed the hibernate option as well (it is no longer visible). I also got rid of the AVG anti virus program that was on it and installed Microsoft Security Essential. It appears I have a genuine Windows installation. Hey guys I'm experiencing a series of issues involving my windows 7 based system.

System:
Windows 7 Ultimate
Intel Core 2 Duo
4g ram
ATI radeon HD 5850
650W power supply

-My computer crashes at random times, particularly when I am either multi-tasking or playing world of warcraft. At first, I assumed it was my graphics card oveheating that was causing the problem, but seeing as having itunes and youtube open at the same time could also cause the crash, that may rule the graphics card out.

-Second, whenever I try to shut down my computer, all my hardware (mouse, keyboard, screen) turn off, but my case fans and motherboard fan continue to run. They are hooked up directly to the power supply yes, but I have never had this issue.

-When I put the computer into sleep mode, all the hardware once again turns off, but pressing my keyboard key only restarts the keyboard, the computer remains in a dead state. Note by the way that the motherboard and case fan are STILL running while in sleep mode.

I have no idea what can be causing these issues, they have only recently started up. I use to have dust issues before, but my computer is dust free at the moment. I ran speedfan and it seems that my processor temps are running up to the low 70's (celsius) while simply watching youtube videos.

I am contemplating getting a new case with better ventilation as this case has been nothing but a dust magnet and only has 2 fans.

Answer:computer crashing, restarting, won't wake up from sleep

Ouch, 70 C on low cpu usage. That is very high and pretty much stretching it. Most motherboards will shut down automatically at around 73-74 C to prevent permanent damage to CPU.

When it crashes, how does it do so. Does it bluescreen, restart, or simply turn off? If it bluescreens, grab a dump file. If it restarts, it may have bluescreened but done so too fast to see it (may or may not have dumped a file). If it turns off, you can attribute that to a power issue or to cpu overheating. With heat that high and if ambient case temp isn't high, you may have to reapply cpu fan and new thermal paste onto the cpu. Or perhaps get a new fan altogether.

As for the strange sleep/shutdown behavior, that sounds like power state problems, but I don't see what could cause such strange behavior for it. Try checking your power options in Windows 7 (Control panel) as well as seeing any power options on your BIOS. Perhaps re-seating your CMOS battery on your motherboard (the disc battery) could also help, though make sure to go back through your BIOS again to reconfigure options.

Answer:Solved: my computer wouldn't wake from sleep

Hello, I'm the owner of an EliteBook 8560p running under Windows 7 Professional 64 bits Edition. I started the installation from scratch with a driver-empty Windows. I've downloaded the drivers separately on the HP Support Website. Everything is running fine but when I put my computer to sleep (normal stand-by mode) I am unable to wake it up from the keyboard keys or trackpad buttons. The only way I can wake it up is by pressing the Power Button. Then it wakes up normally and I go back to the Windows 7 login screen. Is it possible to wake up this computer by pressing a key instead of the power button ? I don't want to press it too often. For example on my old Acer Aspire 5315, pressing a key wakes up the computer instantly. Also, I have no "Allow this device to wake up computer" option in my Device Manager.I can't find this option in the BIOS neither. Can you wake your HP Notebook computer by pressing the keyboard ? Is there a way to do that on EliteBooks ? Thanks and sorry for my mistakes, English is not my mother language.

Answer:Keyboard doesn't wake up computer from sleep

If you have an external display, it will stop the computer from waking. Disconnect display port cable and try again. Also, check your drivers so that Power Mgmt. allows mouse or keyboard to wake system. I have found these issues effect my HP 8460P as well as HP 2540P. Also, make sure that the BIOS allows USB to wake system.

Within the past couple of weeks, my computer hasn't been turning the screen back on when I try to wake it from sleep. I have to end up holding down the power button and restarting it completely. It goes to the "It Appears Windows Didn't Start Correctly" screen from there. It has been a major inconvenience. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I have a problem about sleep. When i close the lid it goes to sleep mode. And i requires password. Until here everything is okey. I want password protection when i close it. But problem is when i try to type my password it says "wrong password or user" . To login i have to "SWITCH USER" and type my password. This is the problem. I don't want to do "SWITCH USER" everytime .
Is there a solution for this ?

PS: I asked this in another forum. Everybody talked about disabling password on wake up. I don't want to do that. The thing that i want is to able to type password without "SWITCHING USER" . This is the most important point.

I do not have any viruses on my pc, I never visit malicious websites. I have AVG and Malwarebytes on my pc.

The issue started about a hour ago, it has happened twice since. I have not experienced any issues with my pc since I built it over a year ago.

Edit: This isn't a BSOD. It just shuts off no blue screen. The computer is still on, but it's almost as if it's in sleep mode.

I searched high and low for a solution to this issue. In windows 7 Pro I was able to put my N585 into hibernation at work, drive home, start up and continue to work where I left off. I have a 2nd N585 that I upgraded to windows 10 first before upgrading my main laptop. That computer will emerge from hibernation just fine. Once I felt comfortable with Windows 10 I upgraded my main laptop to Windows 10. It will not come out of hibernation. I have to hold down the power button and restart and I lose all the work I did prior to the shutdown. I have formatted the drive and installed a fresh WIn 1o install and the problem continues. All drivers are up to date. I ran test utilities on the RAM and all is fine. This is very frustrating. I have enen istalled a new SSD Hard Drive to see if it will fix the problem to no avail. I have spent 2 weekends formatting and reinstalling my software to fix this. Any and all help would be appreciated. I believe this is a hardware issue with the BIOS since I have done a virgin install of the OS.

Will the scheduled programs wake up the computer and run properly. I read before that there were some issues with waking computer from sleep mode.

Answer:Will computer wake up from hybrid sleep to check for updates?

Anything listed as critical will wake the computer - this can be seen by looking for the "wake this computer" checkbox checked on a scheduled task. And yes, WU will wake the computer when it's scheduled to run, even if in a sleep state (including hybrid sleep).

This is SO frustrating
I've had this problem for about a year now; Basically, when I put my computer to sleep, it wont wake up unless I press the power button. Jiggling the mouse or pressing ANY button on the keyboard does nothing.
I have already done significant research on this, so here are the things I've already tried:
1)Checking the "Allow this device to wake the computer" and unchecking "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" In device manager. I've done this for every USB option it would allow, as well as for the mouse, keyboard, and every HID device it would allow.

2)There is no option in my BIOS for allowing/disallowing the keyboard to wake the computer, or any other device for that matter.

3)Hibernate is disabled, and hybrid sleep is not possible on my system

4)Going into my power options through control panel, selecting change plan settings on my current plan, then changing advanced settings, and setting "USB selective suspend setting" to disable

5)Plugging my mouse into different USB ports, on both the front and back

6)Updating all the drivers

7)Uninstalling and re-installing all the drivers

8)Scanned and removed all malware

9)Trying all of these over and over again
Can anyone please help me? I understand it's a hard problem since there are so many solutions, but any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I have a Logitec M505 wireless mouse.

Thank you!

Answer:Mouse and keyboard no longer wake computer from sleep

Have you replaced the batteries in the mouse?. If you have a wired mouse try that & see if it works. If it does you may have a wireless interference problem from another device that is causing problems with the M505.

I tried everything from disabling hibernate to resetting power options. Nothing has worked so far.
Everytime I put my computer to sleep it wont wake up. The monitor wakes but the computer will not boot into windows. I need to hold down the power button and cold boot.
Anyone else have similar issue on this bug?

Answer:Computer wont wake from sleep after Creators Update.

Yes. I am having a very similar problem on my laptop. My problem is when I open my computer, it should wake, but instead the monitor stays off and the computer is unresponsive to any input. I then have to manually restart my computer. This seems to happen completely at random. Some days I can put my laptop to sleep multiple times a day and no problems, but other times I may have to force a shutdown 2-3 times a day.

I'm new to sevenforums and would appreciate the help of some of you. I have updated my user profile with all of the details and specs of my system that is having my issue.

Recently, my computer will not wake up from sleep mode. Once it enters sleep mode, the only way to get it functioning again is to hold the power button, completely shut it off, and then boot my system back up.

It appears as if everything starts back up once I open the lid or press the power button to wake it up, but the screen never turns back on. The fan starts up, the backlit keyboard lights up, the leds all blink, but nothing I try will turn the screen back on forcing me to press and hold the power button for a complete shut down.

I have reinstalled the latest Intel HD Graphics driver as well as the latest NVIDIA graphics driver (both the stable and beta release).

I do not get a blue screen or any sort of error. Upon the restart, I am not prompted with any error from windows or any signs of the forced shut down. I have been messing with this issue for a few days now and am asking for some help from the community here at sevenforums. If you need any additional info let me know.

Thanks.

Hi,

I am new here. Hoping someone can help me out with this issue. I work in IT so am not a complete computer bonehead and am at my wits end with this.

My laptop is about 4 years old, it's a toshiba. For whatever reason, it started taking 5+ minutes to wake up from sleeping. If it sleeps for an hour, it's OK.. but if you leave it sleep all night and try to wake it up in the morning, it's quite cranky. After the 5+ minute wake up, it performs as normal. It was running Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

Troubleshooting steps that I have taken are as follows.

Reinstalled windows. Issue was resolved! but after about 2-3 weeks, issue came back. I thought maybe it was some type of windows update, so I reinstalled windows again and paid closer attention to the updates. Issue presented itself again after 2-3 weeks, and there were no updates immediately done prior to it starting.

I started to think maybe it was something related to my hard drive, so i performed laptop surgery and swapped out my original hard drive with a solid slate drive, and installed windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (this laptop can support 64 bit so I figured why not upgrade.).

issue again was resolved for a few weeks, and now it's back to taking 5+ minutes to wake up again.

If you're turning the laptop on from scratch, it takes 10-15 seconds tops. if you're restarting, it's 10-15 seconds tops (man, I love SSD...)... if you're waking itup within the hour, its 1-2 seconds. But anything longer then that, 5+ minutes.

So, strange issue that recently cropped up. I have my Win7 machines set to enter sleep pretty often and to wake them from time to time I would use the power button, which in the past was not an issue. Press power, computer resumes from sleep. However a few months ago, probably after a Windows Update, pressing the power button would wake the computer...but then it immediately start to shut down. It appears the signal persists through resuming and into Windows causing it to trigger an immediate shutdown the moment it fully resumes...

So yeah, not a deal breaker but a strange issue nonetheless. Any ideas?

Hello everyone!! I really hope someone can help me because my computer is now unusable...

Yesterday a whole lot of really weird things started happening. My computer locked up and I couldn't do anything with any program--however I could hop between the desktop, internet, home screen, and so on. I had to hard reboot it.

It lasted about 10 minutes before doing it again, and it's been that way since. ( I couldn't even post this, I'm having to use a mobile device).

It also won't fully wake up from sleep mode. Everything but the screen comes on (keyboard, fan, etc).

The boot up is very slow now and some programs aren't opening. For example, the integrated mail application won't open, it just registers you clicked the tile and that's it.

Toshiba Service Station states "One or more modules failed to load. This process will be terminated" when I boot up.

For troubleshooting, I've disabled heavy start up applications that aren't windows related. I booted the computer in safe mode and ran malware scans with nothing wrong, and deleted temp files in case an undetected bug was hiding there. Also went and updated my BIOS too in case that was a power issue. So far, nothing. I consider myself fairly tech savvy and I'm stumped.

Make: Toshiba
Model: Satellite Radius P55W-B5220
OS: Windows 8

If your guys need any more info please let me know and thank you so much ahead of time.

Update: Disable Windows Media Center in the "Turn Windows Features On/Of Manager"

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to these forums so please forgive if this is in the wrong place. I was unsure if this fell in another category, please feel free to move it.

Ok... Here's my issue, my laptop has started to randomly waking from sleep every morning at 7:04:52. I have walked the dirt path of Google searching for answers and have tried everything I could possibly find that

Nothing on my Laptop has changed, and it has just started this problem. It's VERY annoying and I'm at my whits end trying to find out what's causing it.

Here's what I've tried/tweaked/confirmed:

- Confirmed that Wake Timers are Disabled - Fought with this on other various machines, first thing I checked.
- Ethernet Wake on LAN is Disabled (Laptop is only ever on WiFi Anyway)
- Wireless Adapter's "Allow Device to Wake this computer..." is also disabled and always has been.
- Windows Media Center's Update Service is disabled since I do not use WMC...
- Went into the Command Prompt and ran "powercfg -lastwake" and was told it was the "ACPI Lid" which is what I was also told in Event Viewer for each (event) occasion that this has happened.
- I've also checked to see if it was Windows Update, but it's settings have never changed and if it was WU it would wake up at 3 am instead...

For some reason, me laptop has been (seemingly) randomly turning back on after being put into sleep mode while the lid is closed or before I even touch it. This is especially problematic because I will usually store it in my backpack to and from school because I do a lot of my homework with it, so it will consistently overheat when this happens, sometimes to the point of shutting itself down because of the overheating. I was able to find another thread on this forum:

Computer waking from sleep

so I was able to use that to that to find out what was wrong with my laptop using the event viewer. It turned out that it was caused by svchost.exe

And a quick google search told me that this is very important, so I can't just delete it. Can anyone tell me either/both why this is happening and how to fix it please?
As a side note, I also tried to set my computer to "do nothing" when the lid is closed, as the last post in the aforementioned thread suggested... it didn't work.

I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with WinXPPro SP3, 2GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo E4600, and it is unreliable for Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring. I also wonder whether my Standby - Sleep - Suspend (S1 or S3) is working correctly.

When the PC is in Standby - Sleep - Suspend mode (S1 or S3), Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring work some of the time but not all of the time, and I'd like them to be 100% reliable.

These may be two different problems, but your advice will be appreciated. (Also, if I should post in a different forum, please advise.)

My Network Card is an Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection, and I recently upgraded its drivers using "generic" PROXP.exe from the Intel website, although this has not helped the problem. The specific driver file e1e5132.sys is now from 2009 -- it used to be from 2007. But, as I say, Wake on LAN from Standby was not and is still not reliable, both before and after the driver update.

In Settings .. Network Connections ... Local Area Connections ... Properties ... Configure ... Power Management, all the Wake on LAN options are checked ON:

- Wake on Directed Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet from Power Off State
- Wake on Link

The NIC card's Diagnostic checks are all OK.

My fax modem card is a Conexant D850 PCI V.92 Modem, and I have the most recent drivers dated 7/27/07, version 7.67.0.50. In Settings ... Phone and Modem Options ... Modems ... Properties, "Allow this device to bring... Read more

More to above: Dell has suggested I must re-install Windows. I've never done that, and I realize I'd probably lose all my applications and data - no good. Seems to me that's like using an atomic bomb to kill a mosquito. And why should I assume that will work?

But is there a way to re-install -- or maybe fix -- Windows that leaves everything else safe?

FYI - About a month or so ago, I ran SFC (System File Checker) in repair mode, and that didn't help with this problem.

Any ideas?

Hello,

My motherboard is a P8Z77-V, with Gigabyte 7950 video card, if that matters.

I did the windows 10 upgrade, and all seems well, except waking from Standby.

If I go into start menu, and choose sleep, everything spins down, and the computer shuts itself off. I am assuming this 'sleep' is some sort of hibernate. Great, love it.

But when I leave the computer over night I come back and the monitors are off,but lights on tower on. I am assuming this is standby mode? Anyway, I can't wake the computer from it, using mouse or keyboard (both USB). Clicking power button on tower does nothing. I generally have to click the reset button on tower and do a full boot sequence. When I log in, I do not get a message about windows not shutting down properly (maybe that message is no more in 10?), but clearly it is a fresh desktop.

I reset all bios settings, and update to most recent bios. I have the latest graphics drivers.

This is driving me nuts! Suggestions or trouble shooting tips?

In the last month or two, I have been experiencing issues when putting my T500 2081 (with dedicated graphics - currently using Energy savings mode, or integrated graphics) into sleep mode. In the first month or so,  the computer sometimes made a long sequence of beeps when I tried the wake the machine up, then computer then would restart and get stuck at a black screen. (A forceful shutdown was required to reboot the machine) (Power indicator on, sleep indicator off) Since then, I never got the beeps anymore, although it has progressed to just being stuck after the machine is awakened. (While the power indicator shows that the machine is on, the sleep (moon) indicator remains lit.)  A force shutdown was still required to reboot the machine. Now, it again has progressed to something totally different. When the computer awakes, the power will completely shut off for a second (it makes the same sound that is made when you forcefully shut down your computer),  then the computer turns on again, but gets stuck at a black screen. (Power indicator is on, sleep indicator off) Once again, a forceful shutdown was required to reboot the machine. If I were to look in the System event logs, it would see this whenever it freezes up after being awaken:"The last sleep transition was unsuccessful. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, failed, or lost power during the sleep transition." Interestingly, the computer would only freeze ... Read more

I have an issue with the sleep function. The computer does not awake from sleep. When I try to do it, it behaves as if it was waking, but it never ends and there is only a black screen; the mouse and keyboard are inoperative. The only thing possible to do is a hard reboot. When it boots, it shows a notice with a minute report (in the zip file) usually saying there was a blue screen, but I NEVER see any blue screen at all.

I know the power configuration is OK because I have always used the same scheme. A powercfg ?energy report shows several errors and warnings. They refer to USB and PCI (vendor 1002=ATI motherboard), but I don?t know how to repair them.

I downloaded the drivers downloader from Rrecipester.org and downloaded and installed the drivers. They are all Broadcom Corporation signed, the brand of my USB Bluetoth attachment. I rebooted after installing, as recommended. Run powercfg ?energy again and got the same report issues (in the zip file). I don?t think the processor utilization warnings to be very important because they are low and sporadic picks. It has been like this for some time now, so I don?t have a restore point. Can someone help and tell me what I can do so solve this issue, please?

Files uploaded in the attached zip:
. Windows warning after reboot
. Windows dump and xml files (2 = 1 each)
. Powercfg -energy report
I wanted to correct the thread title, but was unable to do it. Maybe someone else can do it.

Answer:No Wake From Sleep BlockedI have an issue with the sleep function. T

Quite confident it's a driver issue, it will be very difficult to troubleshoot from the one included dump file though as it's incomplete and inconclusive.

Whether I choose any option other than to turn PC off, instead of tapping spacebar on my MS wireless keyboard I have to tap the button for power on the tower, then the monitor turns on as the fan runs, but always a black screen. So then I have to do a manual boot and select to start normally.

Started a week ago, around the same time as a graphics card failure. I installed a new PNY GeForce, updated ALL drivers on my Gateway DX4710-UB301A, (Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit, AVG antivirus free 2014) played with power management and startup config settings, trolled forums, performed malware scans, and still can't figure out the issue.

Please help!
