I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
After putting my computer into sleep mode last night, I was unable to get it to boot into windows this morning. When i pressed the power buttong, everything turn on and working (all fans are functional, gpu power led is on, all hard drives & cd drives are functional. But the problem is, the screen to my monitor is blank. I also noticed that my usb aren't working (mouse connection light isn't on). I tried a soft power off by holding down the power button but no luck. The system does not turn off no matter how long I hold it. The only way to turn it off is by pulling the power supply cord or turning the power supply switch off.

My pc build:

AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz Socket AM3+ 6 core processor
ASUS ENGTX 560 DCII OC/2DI/1GD5 Geforce GTX 560
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 Motherboard

Prolimatech PRO Panther 120mm CPU Cooler
NZXT Phantom PHAN-001RD case

THE PROBLEM: Computer turn on with everything running as usual, but shows blank screen on monitor. Cannot soft power off by pressing power button.

Things I tried:

Clear CMOS by removing battery and switching pins
Running with 1 4GB RAM instead of 2, move the ram around the slots & alternate which Ram is used.
Check my monitor by testing it with another computer
Tried pulling the PS plug and holding the computer power button for 1 min
Test the GPU with another computer & it runs fine

Answer:Windows 7 blank screen after sleep mode (unable to power off with power button)

Hello,

Is it possible that you can test with another compatible PSU? I would strongly suggest doing so.

Also try the following steps:
?Make sure that the (internal) speaker is connected to the motherboard
?Remove all memory and attempt to boot the PC
?You should get the no memory beep errors

If the Power Supply is in working order and no beeps are present then it can be indicative of a faulty motherboard.

For troubleshooting purposes it may be a good idea to remove the components from the case and bench test to rule out a short.

I recently upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10. When I power down the system from the menu, my computer does not completely turn off. The procedure I use is described below:

Click Windows_Start_button > Power > Shutdown

The system closes applications and appears to initiate a shutdown procedure. Everything appears to be shut off, but my mouse is still lit up. I do notice that the fan stops and everything else appears to be completely shut down. When I was running Windows 7 before my upgrade, my system completely powered down.

I have a dual boot system with Linux, and when I power down from Linux, the shutdown is complete, so I don't think I accidentally did anything to the hardware or BIOS.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm pretty sure there is some tweak in Windows 10 that would fix this, but I haven't found it yet. Thanks for any suggestions you might be able to offer.

Answer:Power down button does not completely turn computer power off

I found the solution on another thread. If you have this problem try the following:
1. Log in as an administrator.
2. Right click the Menu button.
3. Left click -> Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power button does > Change settings that are currently unavailable
4. Uncheck the box next to Turn on fast startup (recommended)
5. Make sure Hibernate is unchecked.
6. Left click Save changes.
The next time you shut down the computer, it will be completely powered off. At least this worked on my machine.

The moment when I try to power it back on, nothing happened except the power button light up other than that nothing else light up.My HDD is not running and so is my fan..Am I recommended send my laptop back to service centre? Thanks

Answer:Y410P power button light up but blank screen

Can you please try to reset the BIOS -1) Take out battery and disconnect all power sources.2) Press Power button for upto a minute.3) Connect all power and battery.4) Start the system. If nothing happens, then shutdown again. Press the NOVO button on side of the laptop and let me know what happens? If nothing happens, then (if you are comfortable), open the laptop and remove the HDD. Power up the laptop and let me know what happens. You can also try removing the RAM, if you have 2 sticks, could be that one of them is faulty. Just try booting with either one.

Hello,

I have problem with my NB205 bl-325, that if I press power button then it will load TOSHIBA logo and after that comes blank screen and it wont start to boot. Everything was okay if i used it last time.
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

What I tried?
I gathered some information about that issue, and I found that sometimes helps if I remove battery and remove RAM. And if I have been removed ram, then I will give some electritvy on it, but this didnt helped. (maybe i missed some part)? Also i checked from my BIOS that primary boot is my Harddrive.

My problem looks same like in that video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCm6BozBgAM&feature=related

Does anyone have any suggestions about that?

Usually if the notebook doesn?t start and you only get a black screen, it seems to be a hardware malfunction?

Can someone please help me. Take in mind my computer skills are just average. This isn't a problem yet, but would like to get a fix before if possible. Here it is. This laptop is only 5 to 6 months old. Windows 8. My power button that turn,s the computer on, sticks some. I have no money to take it to a shop, I was wondering if there,s a trick to fix it? Or another way to turn it on? Thanks, Chuck

Answer:to turn computer on ( power button )

Is your computer new and still in warranty? if the power button sticks there may be a known issue with the casing. Have you tried to reach out to the manufacture to see if there is a known issue?

My son's computer wouldn't shut down, it would close down the OS but the computer lights and HD would still be running. I did a scan, Ccleaner with its registry fix, and degfrag.. that made it work maybe twice. Now it is doing it again.
It refuses to turn off even with the power button (it shuts off then starts again, on its own - I am NOT pressing the "restart"). I have to unplug it from the wall to make it stop re-starting itself.
Any ideas?

Thanks,

My laptop will not charge and it will not turn on . Heres the best way to describe it... When i plug my charger into my computer the red light blinks as well as the power button. It stays on for 3 seconds then blinks and repeats this act.  I have tried holding the power button down for 15 seconds to do a hard restart and nothing happens. My screen remains black and the power button remains blinking.  Ive tried using google remedies but none of the research has helped. My lap top is in immaculate condition, i only use it for school or work so im very confused to why my screen wont turn on. it was up and running fine two weeks ago and every since ive been trying to get it to cut on and it wont budge.

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.  I've been at this for over 6 hours.  I've tried everything in the lame troubleshooting manual, and almost everything from the Lenova's website.  Here's the deal:  I hit the power button... blank screen.  Battery, A/C, (Z) all on.  The fan whirrs to life, the HD makes some subtle sounds. I look up--AH! Black screen, nothing.. and it's quiet out there, too quiet (No beeps, just the constant whirring of that fan, mocking me!)  I've done all possible combinations of re/dis/connecting the A/C cord and battery.  I've reseated the HD and DIMM.  I pounded several FN key combinations for a good amount of time, and nothing happened. Just to see if I could make it beep, I held down several keys until I might hear that "beep...beep...beep...", but Oh No, this T61 is giving me the cold shoulder. But, hey! The DVD drive works! Oh baby, I'm in business! It seems to be able to read CDs. Maybe if I put in a movie, I can sit back and pretend I'm watching it; but that's only fun for so long.  Now, for the questions: 1) I go to this link: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-45707&selectarea=SUPPORT&tempsel... . And check out all the various things for it. It says: 1) Reseat DIMM. Derrr, ok, done!  Power on, nothing. 2) System board.  Hmmm, system board? What about it? Would they like me to drop kick the system board?  It would be enjoyable, but m... Read more

Answer:Brand-spanking new T61's screen is blank after hitting power on button.

As a last ditch effort try removing the battery and power supply, press the power button 50 times holding for 30 seconds on the last one, plug in power supply and try to start up without the battery.

When I push my T400's power button, the laptop no longer goes into hibernation. I have already tried the following:-Checking the power button setting in Windows (it's set to hibernate)-Holding down the button for a while (if I keep holding it down, the laptop does a hard shut down) What can I do to get the power button to work again? I've also tried using the dock's button; the same problem occurs with that button. What can I do to make the button work? Extra Context:-Windows 7 32-bit Edition-No obvious power-related event log warnings or errors

I just reformated my old system to install fresh Win2K, got all the service pack updates and just found out when first turning off the system I have to push the power button just like using Win95 or AT motherboard. I look in the bios, old DELL computer, it doesn't have the "soft off" feature.

One thing I notice in the bios is I didn't turn on the Plug and Play OS, set it back but nothing changed. How to fix this problem? It's very annoying when I have to wait Win2K doing the routine to turn off and have to push the button when the message "It is now safe to turn off your computer".

Answer:Need to push the power button to turn off computer

There is a setting in the BIOS setip to enable or disable ACPI support. If enabled, Windows should install as an "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" (look in Device Manager) and will handle IRQs automatically. Shutdown also works the way it is supposed to.

If ACPI is disabled in the BIOS at the time Windows was installed, the CPU will show in Device Manager as a "Standard PC", IRQ assignments can be modified by the user, and Shutdown doesn't really work. You just get a "It is safe to turn off your computer" screen.

Unfortunately, enabling ACPI support in the BIOS doesn't work after Windows is installed. You have to change the HAL (very tricky) or reinstall Windows.

This is my sister's cpu i'm talking about so i have no idea if there was an error message before the following happened:

She was booting the computer and it just shut off. There is no response from the power button. Yes all the cords are plugged in inside and outside the box. The computer is kinda old, has had major problems with XP, so is back to 98. PII 266, 312 MB ram, GeForce 2 video card, 2 WD hdds. On a possibly related note, the problem with XP was that the registry was corrupted every shutdown. Could this be an issue with the mobo? I know the ram is good, and the power supply seems okay.

Another mobo-ish issue: The comp will only go past bios loading area with 2 devices on IDE 0. It hangs as if there is no hdds in it if there is only one. Yes i checked the jumpers and such. Either hdd on IDE 0 fails boot if there's one, but passes whether it's master or slave if both are in.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you disable system entering suspend or hibernate, you can power off screen by closing the lid. Windows power manager should do it on a timed basis, but an active task will usually prevent it. As for a key, there probably is one, but I've never looked into it. Maybe someone else can give you a better answer.

:knock: Today I came home from work and pressed the power button on the computer to which nothing happened. Not a slight power up and turn off, no lights fans, no sign of life. I used it this morning with no problems or indications of anything being wrong and turned it off when I was done, which it shut down properly. It never just turns off in the middle of gaming or anything. What could be the problem with it? Would that be the power supply? I have it plugged into a good surge protector and there was no lightning of weather effects today while I was gone. I turn it off every night before sleeping and when ever i'm done with it. Anyways, thats some usage of it. Its usually on for 6 hours a day or so and its rufly 3 weeks old. (just built). Thanks for any help you guys can give!!

With motherboard removed and power supply connected, monitor connected, ram in, CPU in, HD connected and Case Power Connector for front Push-Button "connected" the system acts like it's going to start but nothing shows up on the display and screen shows No Signal.
However, if I unplug the Case Power Connector for Push-button from the motherboard and start the system by shorting the two power pins on the motherboard ....then the system starts normally and the display works.
Does this indicate that I have a bad power connector, bad power button?  How do I solve this problem?  The power button is white when it does not start up.

The power on switch is a replaceable assembly.  Which one depends on Mini Tower or Slim Desktop 620S.

Is yours using the Intel integrated graphics or does it have a dedicated graphic card?

What's the brand name and model number of the "extra graphic card" that you installed in it?

What's the brand name and model number of the power supply in it?

So recently my computer for work got knocked over. When I push the power on button, the computer starts to get going and makes a series of 3 clicks. Before the monitor even turns on, the computer just shuts off. I am guessing something got damaged when it got knocked over. I was hoping someone would have a rough idea.

Answer:Computer clicks when I push the power button then wont turn on

rough idea:
open it up and make sure all the cables are secure and nothing metal has been knocked around..if still no dice, then start by disconnecting each device (i would check the hard drive(s) 1st, as they are probably most prone to damage) 1 by 1 until you have eliminated all that you could, besides the power plug to the motherboard .
i would start with also checking to make sure the cpu fan didnt fall off.

Basically, when I start my laptop with the intel graphics mode, I get a blank screen right after the Windows startup logo. Going into the bios and changing to discrete only mode works fine. Uninstalling the intel drivers allows me to boot the intel chip with the default windows drivers, and the logical next step would be to simply reinstall them, however... Compounding the problem is that while serveral intel graphics driver installations are listed in the Lenovo support area, only one of them seems to actually contain the graphics drivers, with the rest just installing the Power Boost drivers for the processor, and even then I still get the black screen after installation. Worst off all, there seems to be no Intel video drivers on the restore partition. I'm truly at a loss here. I can live with only the high-power mode working, but I'd like to get this fixed.

Answer:Y560: Booting in low-power (Switchable) graphics mode causes blank screen

Problem solved. Did a forum search and downloaded Leshcat's unofficial solution. Fixed my problem and got a new version of ATI's drivers than what's availible on Lenovo's site out of it. Kinda sad that Lenovo can't get their crap straight, but whatever.

This morning I came to my computer and it had a BSOD from my wireless adapter driver. This has happened a few times before. But when I turned it off and tried to turn it back on, it wont start! As soon as I press the power button, the lights flash and the fans get one jolt of power causing them to spin and die out immediately and then everything stops in under a seccond. What could be causing this? I did add a new new hard drive to my computer yesterday, but it has restarted fine a few times since then, and unplugging it didn't fix the problem. Other than that, I can't think of anything that is different that would be causing this. Any ideas?

I just got this HP pavilion 762n last year. Now whenever I turn the computer on it won't respond and the only way I can make the computer respond is to go to safe mode and Un-install the Graphic Card, then restart the computer back again. Once I've done that the computer would work, but I can't watch videos or play video games and their would be these little blue lines on the computer screen (Sometimes their would be alot of the lines and sometimes the lines would be made by the trail of my mouse).

I've tried lots of ways to fix the computer. I've tried doing a destructive recovery lots of time and it still wouldnt work. I have this program that test my computer and tells me what kinda problem my computer have and it said that the computer fail on the video memory test. I think the only way I can fix this is to buy another graphic card. Can anyone please tell me how to fix this problem?

Thank You.

Whenever I turn my computer on I get a black screen and it doesn't budge from there. My monitor just seems to go into sleep mode and I can't do anything. Also my dvd drive makes this horrible sound whenever I start up my computer so I swapped out the drive with another one I had around the house and it made the exact same noise. I even took out my hard drive to make sure that wasn't what was making the noise. I've never encountered such a strange problem before. I tested the optical drive in another computer and it doesn't make this noise. I just have no idea what could be causing it. Any suggestions?

Windows XP Media Center Edition

Answer:Blank screen when I turn my computer on.

Since no one else will try this one I will have a go.

First if you have no picture, why are you playing with the dvd drive?

Graunching noises suggest fan problems. Either a fan is clogged up with dirt or catching on an internal cable or just wearing out. Check all these including your graphics card.

At best this is your problem and restarting the fan will restart your picture.

Next best option is the power supply failing, not providing proper power to dvd drive and graphics card. Check by substitution.

If this does not work you have cooked something, this could be any or all of, memory, processor, graphics card. Depending on the specs of your other pc you may be able to check these out, one at a time, by substitution.

Post the results and good luck

When I turn on my computer it shows nothing but a blank screen. Doesn't even go into bios 19 out of 20 times. Every now and then it boots into BIOS and begins loading Windows, but freezes at the loading screen. What could the problem be? A couple months earlier the computer would randomly shut down while I was using it. I'm assuming the problem might be the probably the power supply. It's an emachine t3624: http://emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=T Series&model=T3624#

And yes, I know I really need to upgrade to a new computer... but I have absolutely no money I can put towards buying one at the moment. It would take me at least a couple months to be able to afford even a cheap one....

Hi,
In reference to the following posting, http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19676126:
I am not the individual who initiated this query but I did have the same issue with my Dell Inspiron 5547, where it wouldn't turn on after a power button shut down.
I followed Hema's instructions by removing the battery and charger and then holding down the power button for a few seconds, and then putting back the parts. It seemed to have done the trick... At least for now. Is this just a temporary fix?
While doing a Google search for a solution I seem to have encountered a number of people who experienced the same issue. Can you also explain why this happens with this particular Dell laptop? Is it a model flaw?
Thank you

I have a Y530 laptop.  It originally came with Windows Vista.  I upgraded it to Windows 7 several months ago.  Lately the laptop will not come on using the power button. I have tried all the suggested remedies -- remove the battery, remove the power cord, hold the power button down for 15 seconds, reinstall the battery, reinstall the power cord.  It still will not come on using the power button. I find that if I press the "One Key" -- the key above the power button, the laptop comes on but goes to the Recovery page.  I tried doing a recovery one time, but was presented with a screen telling me there was an error with some files during the recovery.  I can understand this since I'm sure the recovery partition was designed for Windows Vista and things do not work correctly since the computer is now running Windows 7. The next time I turned the computer on using the "One Key" -- the power button still does not work -- I skipped the recovery and had the computer reboot instead.  The computer booted into Windows 7 and worked fine. This is not the ideal situation when I want to boot the computer.  I do not want to have to go to the recovery screen and reboot from there. Is there any way to get my computer to respond to the power button again? Thank you for your help, Dan Wilkinson

I have recently used Driver Genius to update some drivers and had a power outage while installing the video card drivers. After the power was restored I could not boot normally (it would go blank after the loading screen goes away before the log on screen comes up.) So I boot into safe mode and install the drivers there, and then restart. It worked after about 12 tries.... Now, it will not load normally at all anymore.
While checking the system error logs, I find that (from 9/26/09 - 9/27/09) I am missing quite a few catalog files in the "system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}" directory. I also have many DCOM errors...

See "SysErrors.txt" in attachments
I have also ran chkdsk with many errors (I assume they are)

See "ChkDskOutput.txt" in attachments.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's another possible culprit... Leftover video card drivers.... While I thought that my nVidia card somehow fried when the power went out, I put my ATI card in and tried to install the drivers for it, but to no avail... Oddly enough, the only way I could get it to work was by manually installing the drivers. While doing an automated install, I received the error message "Severe: Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit."

What could be wrong???

EDIT: I have a strong feeling it has something to do with my video driver... Read more

Answer:Computer only booting in safe mode... Blank after loading screen on normal restart.

In order for me to boot normally, I must disable my display adapter (ATI) in Device Manager....

I have tried it with both nVidia and ATI cards and I must disable both in order to boot correctly.. I installed them seperatly so there wouldn't be any conflicts.... How am I supposed to get my video card working If I can't enable it...

PowerEdge T20 won't power up, power button & fans repeatedly turn on/off forever
1 year old. Press the power button, power button lights up amber, then white, CPU fan spins up briefly, then a beep and the power button turns off and the fan shuts down. Three seconds later the cycle repeats forever until I depress the power button for 5 seconds.

Answer:turn on the computer and power light goes on but screen remains black

If this is a notebook PC, try connecting an external monitor to the VGA port. If the display comes up on the external monitor, it points to an issue with the screen.

If there is no display on an external monitor connected to a notebook PC, it points to an issue with the motherboard and will require a professional diagnosis.

Hope this helps.

I first logged out of my computer and came back and I noticed an orange light on the power button. I shut it of and turn it back on about two times with the same results of an orange light. I then shut of the the extension that houses 10 plugs. When I turned on the extension I turned on the computer the power button didn't give off a blue light or orange light. The VGA cable, mouse, keyboard, Ethernet cable are all plugged in. I later removed all the connects to the computer gave it a minute and plugged it all back in. There is a solid green light on the back under the power cable. The fans turn on there is noise coming from inside the computer a soft humming and light fan from the back of the computer. But the power button will not turn on. The monitor light is orange and says "No Input signal Input 2,Go to Power Save." When I switch to input 1 it reads "Cable Disconnected Go to Power Save." What internal issue could this be?

Salut..i was having some problems while i was installing my new hardware (now everything is ok!) but around 5-8 times i had to turn off my pc from the power button for some reason(forgot cables to connect, wrong connections, etc). Was it very bad for my power supply?
Thanks in advance

Answer:Turn off from power button!

rule of thumb: make sure the power is OFF, you are grounded (touching the PSU case) before u touch/connect/disconnect anything inside the case.

turning on and off shouldn't be a problem, you should see how much time a service tech turning on and off a machine :-)

by the way, make sure your CPU fan is connected before u close the case, reason I say this is because the CPU is probably the most expensive and easily broken component in a PC (imo of course)

One of the non-profit's I support purchased eight Dell Vistro 1000 laptops, and the one I am using has a neat Hibernate button on the "Turn off computer" screen. And this is NOT one that appears because I held down the shift key and clicked "Standby" ... instead, it is just to the left of the "Standby" button.

I hibernate my desktop machine a lot, and would like to have that little feature on it (or, better yet, an icon on my decktop that I could click and the hibernation fun would begin without intervention).

Any ideas???

Oh, for those who don't know what the Vistro line is from Dell, this is a bare-bones laptop for $399 that runs XP:

http://tinyurl.com/3gpx3h

The one I am using has a Mobile AMD Sempron Processor (3600+), 1/2 GB RAM, 60GB hard drive, XP/Home, and is noticably slower than my desktop rig, but for $400, it ain't bad. With a little imagination you can use Dell's configurator to add $500 to that, but then that defeats the purpose of a stripped-down XP machine.
***********************************************************
But I don't want to hijack my own thread! Any ideas on the hibernate button?

It's true!!

I have a 3000-X11 and the only way to turn it on is using the DVD/CD/Media Player Switch - pressing the power button does nothing.

When the machine is active, you CAN press the power button and the machine will turn off...

Any thought and pointers would really be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Lee

Hi

This is a strange issue. I?m not 100% sure what the problem can be. Maybe it?s a motherboard or other hardware fault. I would recommend to contact the Toshiba service partner because has more experience with such hardware fault cases.
On the Toshiba website you will find a ASP which is responsible for your country.

Hi there
Sorry this is a little long, bear with me... hopefully someone can help me! Pressing the power button on my Dell Studio XPS does nothing, the green light on the back is on and the orange motherboard light is on so it's getting power. I've cleaned it out, checked the cables are seated properly etc and taken off the top cover to check the power button is depressing ok and seems fine (although I can't define 'fine')
One thing I noticed though, I'm no expert, but I was taught to press down the power button for 10 seconds to make sure any electricity is discharged before doing anything. I'd expect this to make the motherboard light to go off but it doesn't, it remains on for around 30 seconds and I tested this and this is the same amount of time the light takes to go off on its own, without me pressing the power button. So would this suggest it is indeed the power button that isn't working as it's not helping discharge the electricity? Or am I just assuming silly things?
I hope that makes sense! I'd be really grateful if anyone has any advice to get my pic working because I really need it. It's waaaay out of warranty so want to see if there is anything I can do before spending lots of money that I don't have.
Thanks
Chaz

Hey guys! Newcomer here!

Need serious help with my 4 months old PC which I built myself.

It has been working fine, until recently. Basically, the PC would not turn on after clicking the Power button on the Case. Initially, it required 4-5 clicks, before it turned on. After couple of days, more clicks. Then now, it just does not turn on with Button clicks.

In order to Boot it, I have to Turn Off and On the PSU switch, couple of times, and it triggers something and PC comes on. When it is on, it is all stable, no issues at all. I can use it 12-15 hours, and not a single crash or power surge.

I read on many other forums regarding the issue and tried couple of solutions:

1. Tried switching the connections on the motherboard, between Power and Reset button, to see if the SWITCH is the problem. No result, so switch of the case is fine.

2. Tried removing the motherboard battery and back in, didn't help.

3. Unplugged custom lighting LED molex connector, still no result.
PC Components are:

i7 6700 (non-K) 3.4Ghz
64GB 2400mhz HyperX Fury Black
MSI z170A Gaming M5 motherboard
MSI GTX970 4Gb
Samsung Evo 500Gb SSD
Seagate 4TB green
NZXT H440 Red and Black case
EVGA Supernova 850G (850 watt Gold) PSU.
I built the PC June, 2016 - in United Kingdom. Now I moved to Turkey. And problem started here, however I haven't used the PC enough in UK anyways, so I'm not sure if Wall Socket power voltage is the issue, UK being 240v and turkey has 220v, according to googl... Read more

Hi, I came home today and when I pressed the power button to turn on my latop, nothing happened. I pressed it multiple times, with and without some force, as well as held the button down. It still didn't turn on. I tried it with the battery in and without the battery but plugged into the charger and outlet, but nothing happened. I'm not sure if it's that the battery drained and the charger died and that my laptop has no power. Right now my laptop is plugged into the outlet with the battery in and the light next to the power insert on the laptop is unlit. Something of note that happened yesterday was that my laptop randomly shutdown and restarted a few times actually. I wasn't sure what happened, but it was fine afterwards and it said the laptop was charged. I'm thinking these two issues are related, but I don't know what happened. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

This may sound crazy, but, I was wondering if there was a way to be able to turn on my laptop without having to have someone else  press the power button. My power button is not broken. It works just fine. I would just like to be able to turn on my  laptop all by myself. I have been searching the Internet for solutions to this question. All I have found, is basically how to fix a broken power button. I was just wondering if this is a possibility. I currently have a head tracking system as well as Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Both have allowed me to do everything on my  laptop with the exception of powering   it on. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you.  William Kochevar

Hi all,New to the forums, was wondering  if anybody has had or heard of this problem? I have a T42 that the only way you can turn it on is by plugging in the power supply, as soon as I plug it in the laptop turns on. The power button will turn it off but wont turn it on. I have tried the reset procedure, also tried it with out battery, no difference. The laptop will go into standby and out with no problems with or with out the power supply plugged in. Power supply tests good and battery holds charge.  Do I need a motherboard? Thanks for your time

Answer:T42 Power button will not turn laptop on

Welcome to the forum! Looks like it is time for another keyboard. The problem is with the power on button itself. Sometimes the power button will either stick badly or lose connection to the systemboard. If your unit is still in warranty, call tech support to replace the keyboard. This will solve the problem.  Cheers,Mark

Hi, please help me

I contacted Major Geeks as I was infected with Antimalware Doctor and was instructed by TimW to remove it. After removal I noticed that after shutdown my pc wouldn't turn on when the power button was pressed. After turning the switch on the wall off and then on again, the pc turned on but now a few days later it is not turning on at all. The power button flashes amber when pressed but nothing more. It doesn't start up at all. Please tell me how this can be undone or fixed, thanks

Answer:PC doesn't turn on after shutdown. Power button flashes amber and doesn't turn on

Looking at your malware thread, to be sure you were given the all clean, I noticed you mentioned this

If i turn off the electricity socket on the wall and then on again the pc turns on when the power button is pressed.Click to expand...

Is that still the case?

Turn the system

I used the same problematic on my laptop (c660-11p), try to swap the Ram, check whether the ports are well ( are they damaged )and clean them and also ascertain whether any of the boards is not burned.you can also reset the bios by removing the battery, if nothing didn't work just switch on-off the computer many times until it works (that work whit mine ) that was from me can't help more :/ good luck

A friend of mine asked me to look at his T430 because it wasn't booting.  Basically as soon as you plug the AC adapter in the CPU fan turns on (sounds like full speed) and the power button pulses / flashes (once every 2 seconds fading in and out).   I have stripped everything out (down to the mainboard but still doing the same thing.  Even with the processor and memory out still does the same thing. Without AC and the battery in pressing the power button yields the same result. Does anyone have any suggestions? Heard of this? Know the solution? Or even know what this type of error signifies? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I need to get it fixed for him ASAP.

Answer:T430 not booting - flashing power button

Hi, welcome to the forum!

I hope that this classic trick will help you with your troubles:
Remove battery and power cable.
Press the power button 10 times in a row, each time just for a fraction of a second. Then press it once again and hold it for 30-40 seconds and release. Try to start it again, post back here with results.

Model: HP Pavillion 15 ak007txOriginal OS: FREE DOSCurrent OS: Windows 10 64 bit Problem: I tried to update the BIOS using this file:Released:2016-07-05File name: sp76335.exeVersion F.80It gave me a Blue Screen of Death and the computer restarted. After restarting I only get a blank screen, the fan also does not turn on, there's no text and no way to access the BIOS nor the boot menu. The Caps Lock led does not blink but the power button blinks every 2 seconds indefinitely, every time the light goes off a click sound is heard from my laptop. This, according to HP, suggests a BIOS Corruption Failure. What I've tried:I have removed the battery and tried to perform the hard reset procedure but that does not help. The only progres that i have had is that i tried the windows logo+b button and now the blinking stops and the power button stays on that too indefinitely.i have tried this method many times but to no avail. I also tried creating a usb bios recovery as mentioned by HP and tried the windows logo + B button combination but still nothing has happened.I hold the windows logo + B, then turn on the computer. Nothing happens. I have tried holding them for different lengths of time, there's no beeps, no text on the screen, nothing.  Please help me out,What am I missing?

When I press the power on button it becomes green during 4/5 seconds then goes out.
I have make every test of the page support :"

* Press and hold the Fn key and then press the F5 key repeatedly. If an image appears on the display, it indicates that the image had been switched to a connector for an external display monitor, causing the computer to only appear to be turned off.

* Connect the AC adapter to the computer.

* Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adapter, and then connect only the AC adapter. Make sure that the AC adapter is the one that was packaged with the computer. Try turning the computer on again, without the battery in the computer .

* Plug the AC adapter into a different AC outlet.

* Charge the battery, to insure that is has enough energy to start the computer.

* Press and hold the power switch for ten seconds (to make sure that the computer is off). Wait for five seconds, and then press and hold the power switch again, for three seconds (to turn the computer on).

* Make sure that there is nothing (like a sliding plastic cover) in the way of pressing the power switch.

* Disconnect all external devices (printers, pointing devices, keyboards, etc.) connected to any of the computer's ports.

* Remove any additional memory, beyond the computer's built in memory, or the computer's first removable memory module. If the computer starts correctly, re-insert the memory and turn the computer on ag... Read more

Hi there, I bought my Lenovo Y40 on the Lenovo Web site a couple months ago and recently, to turn on, I have to press the power button twice. When I press just once, the Lenovo`s logo is displayed on the screen, but after 2 seconds everything turns off. On the second trying, finally the laptop turns on and the windows is started. In addition, rarely the laptop stucks on the lenovo`s logo screen, being necessary to hold on the power to reset it. Has anyone had some problem like these describe above? Thank you.Pedro Lopes.

Answer:Lenovo Y40: Needs to press the power button twice to turn on

Welcome to the Lenovo Community Pedro !

Try doing what I call a soft reset of the BIOS. This can be useful in some situations to resolve hardware conflicts Here's how......1. Unplug the charger / adapter 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If that didn't resolve the problem then I suggest you contact Lenovo Support for warranty service.  From what you have described there is a hardware problem with the laptop that needs fixing. You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist_alt1

Hey. I recently bought a new tower and was moving my motherboard and all the other things to the new one. I installed everything and connected all the cables. However when I press the power button it doesn't start. I know the motherboard is getting power because the light is on and when i plugged in ethernet cable it lit up too but I can't get the power button to work. I thot I mite have connected the cables from the buttons the wrong way o the Chassis 9-pin Front Panel Header so I wnt online and go diagrams and I know it's properly now but it still doesnt work.

Doesn any1 know what might be the problem?

Answer:Pressing power button but PC doesn't turn on :(

K wow. I was reading on the board about a guy who had the same problem. He bought a new tower and did everything as me and had same problem. As I was reading it almost near the end the guy found out what the problem was and it was bad. He said the motherboard was touching the metal inside the tower and that that way u can fry ur motherboard in secs and that's what happened to him along wid few other things connected to it. When I read that I almost got a heart attack and felt like shyt since my PC is worth some big bucks and I just bought it 6 months ago. So widout any hope left miserably feeling I unscrewed the motherboard and I have used the plastic dunno what to call it (screws) to hold up my motherboard in the air. And for the last time I decided to press the button knowing it won't work. And guess what everything turned on and I almost shyt myself instantly from the shock and happiness and almost wanted to cry. I don't know what saved me, why my motherboard didn't fry but I know I am lucky as hell like never befo. I turned on my system and eveertyhing seems to work well other than the fact that norton antivirus cant load up it's driver and my date was resetted to default but that's it for now.

One of the minor annoyances for me in Vista is the power button in Start is set to place the PC into sleep. To turn the PC off it is necessary to select the smaller button to the right and chose "shut down"No longer, for those who want the Start power button to shut the PC down, this is the solution.Control Panel.System and Maintenance.Power options.Select your power option and choose "Change Plan Settings"Click "change advanced power settings".Maximise "power buttons and lid"Maximise "Start menu power button"Click on "sleep" which will bring up options and select "Shut down"Apply and OK.If you hover over the power button in Start now you will see it confirms the changed funtion to shut down rather than sleep. It sounds more involved than it really is.

Answer:Change the power button from "sleep" to "turn off"

Thanks for that another minor annoyance bites the dust:-)

Answer:have to turn pc off with power button not too long on freeze

"I have a very good antivirus"I guess it's a secret? If it's Norton or McAfee, it's not "very good".Did you scan for malware? Have you managed your startup apps? Have you cleared all your temp files, history folder, cookies, etc? Could it be you don't have enough system memory? Could the CPU be overheating?

Okay, this is I did something really dumb. Yesterday I was changing the thermal paste in my laptop for the cpu and when I was taking out the palm rest, I forgot to open the flabs to release the ribbons and I stripped the ribbons badly and also the part where the ribbons plug in on the motherboard. The little tiny metal pieces on the place where the power ribbon plugs in are all bent. I can't turn on my laptop on and I really want to be gaming right now lol Is there anyway I can fix this? Please anybody, please help me. If you guys need me to attach pictures to this post I will. Thanks! Right now I'm on my other computer Btw.

Hi, FIrst of all I have not tried Wake on LAN on this S10 of mine, yet.  I don't even know if it will work or not.  Anyway, this is my main concern.  I'm planning to mount my S10 on the back of my monitor, I'll be putting a wire mesh kinda box that will hold it.  I will then hook the VGA monitor/audio cables to my S10.  I'll also be hooking my wireless Keyboard so it will look clean as possible.  With this setup, of course, the LCD lid will be closed and I'm thinking of ways on how to turn it on with the Lid closed.  I'm currently finding ways on how to do this?  I was hoping NOT to go to the rear of my monitor >> lift the S10 from the mesh box >> press the power button >> close the lid >> place it back to the mesh box mount. The wireless keyboard has a power on option (I have Logitech MK300) but does NOT work.  Would a Wired USB keyboard work? Fortunately, I have a deskop computer (which has its own monitor) that will sit beside my S10/Monitor.  The two computers (Desktop and S10) will run independently. What do you think guys?  What options can I go with?  Is my only hope Wake On LAN?  Oh yeah, it is even possible with the S10? Maybe there is a USB device or a hack that can be done (not voiding the warranty)? Thanks!

Answer:Aside from Wake on LAN, how can I turn on my S10 without pressing the Power Button?

Hi
there is no BIOS option for WOL
