Asus G73SW Notebook BSODs

Question: Asus G73SW Notebook BSODs

Hello Everyone,

Got my Asus G73SW notebook about a week ago but it keeps throwing up BSODs randomly. I don't have to run some resource intensive programs, sometimes it even occurs when being idle on my desktop or starting up windows. I hoped SP1 would fix it but to no avail so you are my last hope.

System specs:

Model: Asus G73SW-TZ083V
OS: W7 Home Premium 64 OEM (SP1 installed)
CPU: Intel Core i7 2630QM
Memory: Samsung DDR3 1333
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M
Sound: Intel? High Definition Audio Support
Display: 17.3" 1920x1080
Hard Drives: 2x SATA 500 GB 7200rpm

System health report + Dump file attached, let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks a lot,
John M.

Preferred Solution: Asus G73SW Notebook BSODs

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What version of Windows, and what are you doing when the BSOD's happen? BATTC.sys is in the minidumps. Is the laptops battery in good condition?

Hey guys,

I need some hellppppppp. I have an Asus G73SW Laptop and the network connection has been spotty as of late.

Readers Digest Version: Worked fine yesterday nothing has change in my connection settings, router settings or server settings. (Computer is located at work in an AD setup, I am first level IT Support here) Router shows as it is getting a connection from the network card which is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller with latest drivers right from realtek (and asus version tried too). But is not connecting at 10/100 or 1000. (Have two connection sources to test to).

What I have tried:
- Tried it on a 10/100 router and a gigabyte switch
- Multiple cat5's
- Performing a clean uninstall of the driver and reinstall both from the Asus and Realtek websites of both drivers.
- Disabling the lan rebooting, enabling he lan and trying to connect.
- Disabling power save multiple times.
- Checking bios for any lan options (which there was surprisingly very little options)
- Latest bios firmware
- Tried changing the duplex to 10/100 for the hell of it!

May try:
- Reinstalling windows. *sigh*

I had this problem a couple weeks ago, I went into the bios and enabled PXE boot when into windows and it was suddenly working as usual again. Went back to bios disabled PXE and it was still working fine. I did it again today to no avail....

I think I am running out of options and may possibly be facing a failing network card?

Please assist! =)

Oh and about 5 minutes before it shuts down it starts to run extremely slow.

Answer:Asus G73sw shuts down unexpectedly

At risk of being obvious, it sounds a bit like malware - have you had chance to scan it? (or is it off too much)

I have an Asus G73sw laptop with some BSOD problems after a fresh installation of windows. The BCC's are listed as follows 7E, 0, C4, 24, 124, A, 109, 24, D1, 7F, F4, and 50. I have yet to have any crash while in safe mode. The hdd has passed Seatools HDD test long and short as well as 14 rounds of memtest. CHKDSK finds no errors. Sometimes I'll have the PC lock up and show no activity on the HDD LED.

Hi, I was just wondering if it's normal for my laptop to slow down when it's running on battery. When I play Mass Effect 2 using AC, everything runs smoothly, bu when I am running on batter, it's a little laggy.

Answer:Asus G73SW slows down when running on Battery

I wouldn't suggest trying to play high requirement games on batteries.
Most laptops are set to throttle themselves in order to save battery life when unplugged.
These settings can be found in the control panel.
Under power options.
You can probably fix the problem but battery life could be cut down to as little as 20 or 30 minutes if left on full blast.

Hi there,
I need help deciphering the cause of the BSOD in my laptop. The circumstances are not always the same when it happens. Mostly what's open at that time is Outlook 2010, Firefix browser (Typo3 website updates), Pandora (not necessarily playing).

I have done exhaustive hardware tests and no matter how hard or long I stressed it I could not replicate BSOD this way. My suspicion is a driver. I am attaching SF Diagnostic Tool output folder zipped. Please see if you can kindly help!

Hi jap.

You need to update the USB3 driver.

The one available with ASUS is even older that the installed one.

Get it from FRESCO LOGIC INC.===Leap into SuperSpeed===

Let us know the situation after updating the driver.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm here due to a long standing issue of not getting the reported speeds by Charter in my household. Basically I'm paying for a 30mb plan and I'm only getting around 10-15mb verified through Ookla. The hitch is that while the computers in our household report only 10-15mb (2 separate laptops, and even the first tech Charter sent out), the final techs came out with their laptop and were able to get a 50mb connection with no troubleshooting. This leads me to believe that either a wireless card or driver is having problems but I'm just not sure where the problem truly lies due to multiple computers having the issue and the problem occuring both hardwired into the modem and through wifi. I actually get 15mbps through wifi and only 10 hardwired to the modem for some reason.

Here's my rundown.

1. Wired and Wireless issue

2. ISP - Charter

3. Connection - Cable

4. Router - DLink WBR-1310 Firmware 1.04 , Modem - Motorola SB6121 (has been switched out by techs)

5. No antivirus installed. Malware bytes as a cleaner. (has been run, I'm clean)

6. See 3 attached files.

I am unsure of my wireless card's serial number but the only driver I had found to kick start my wireless after reinstalling windows was an Atheros driver. It shows Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter but that may be due to installing that driver. I'm unsure on that side of things due to Asus having different wireless LAN downloads on their site here.

https://www.asus.com/Noteb... Read more

Answer:Not getting internet speeds provided on an Asus G73SW through Charter

Ok, using outdated wireless G will be like a bottle neck on the connection speed. You should really try measuring with a wired connection to get a true reading. If you don't have a wireless N router then consider upgrading the router as it's the only way to improve the connection speeds for the wireless.

If you want better speeds get an N router set to 802.11N only and not mixed using WPA2 personal security with AES encryption. The mixed wireless settings will hold you back on connection speeds limiting you to 54Mbps "network speeds not ISP".

This old router is a relic and using WEP security is not reliable, fast or safe.

With this nice of a laptop you really are holding it back with this old router. I'm surprised the connection even works with a router this old and the LAN speeds being slower than the wireless just isn't right and I doubt it's a problem with the Asus laptop. You should only need to update the laptop via Windows Update Center, this will fix most every problem if there is one.

If you want better speeds you need to update your router/hardware.

Other than that it's all on the ISP and everyone complains they aren't getting the advertised speed. Too many variables to mention here and there isn't a single solution that can fix this but updating that router would be my first move.

Hi all,

I just purchased my new ASUS G73sw about two weeks ago. Performed a clean installation of Windows 7 64bit, and all of my software (All legal).

I have received 4 crashes at random times, each time my PC has been asleep for an extended period of time.

The .dmp file is saying the probably cause is: ntoskrnl.exe

No clue what to do here. I would prefer NOT to do a clean installation just because reinstalling and resetting everything takes forever. Is there an easy update/fix here?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Greetings,

My almost 3 year old Asus X52 F3SV Notebook suddenly froze and shut itself down today. It will not boot past the 'Asus' logo screen. The furthest it got was 'loading windows', but quickly rebooted once that screen showed up.
It has been running quite hot lately, but i cleaned the fan out last weekend, and it had been running without problem since then.
I'm running Windows Vista Premium, with no other real problems until now, with up to date windows updates and regular Spybot and anti-virus scans.
There were random multicoloured lines running through the Asus screen on the first reboot after freezing. Could it be my graphics card? (Nvidia 8600m). I did not hear any crackling/popping sounds, so I really hope it's not dead yet.
I've looked around these forums, but couldn't find a similar problem/solution.

Thank you.

Answer:Asus x52 F3SV notebook not booting past Asus screen

Try running Bios defaults

This settings area can be called:
Bios Setup
CMOS Settings
System Setup
even just Setup
You can enter it by pressing the keyboard key that is displayed on your screen when first turning on your computer
Its sometimes:
A Fn Button like F1, or F2, or F10 or some other Fn key
DEL key
(whatever the computer states on screen when you first turn on your computer)
Once in Bios Setup, locate Setup Defaults (sometimes called Optimized Defaults)
Apply it, then Save and Exit Bios Settings (which is usually F10, but it will tell you in the Bios Settings screen)

If that doesn't help try reming and re-seating your Ram cards (even your hard drive)
You can download your Manual to find the locations of these components, but they are usually located under the laptop, under the covers

If it is your Video card (onboard) then that was be a big concern
You may need to locate the disassemble guide online, then blow out all internal dust

It may also require a CheckDisk scan
You can read HERE on how to do that outside Windows

I set up this notebook, which I like very much, on December 22, 2011.  On that day I had a hungapp message and Windows Explorer is not responding.

On 1/5/12 we got the message Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown, and a BSOD.  We chose to start Windows normally.

On 1/20/12 we couldn't get the screen to load (power  button on - no screen.  The cpu was running because I heard the fan and felt the warm air) I attached the charger to notebook and the power button responded by shutting windows unexpectedly.  Was then able to access notebook with message it was shut down improperly and chose to start windows normally..  When started, the battery had 46% power.)  I don't know if the notebook was in sleep or hibernating - but it had been used about 1/2 hour prior.  Event viewer showed a troubleshooter BUG Report was issued, among other errors.

On 1/22/12 the notebook was sleeping,  Tried to wake it and browser wasn't loading properly.  Closed browser and notevook was fine.

At this point I called Lenovo support and was told I had to have a active problem and to call when the problem was occuring.

Today while in the Admin account I got a message from Windows that Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.  I checked the Event Viewer and see that this occurred on 2/2/12.  Here are the messages

Answer:BSODs etc on New G570 Notebook

I'm disappointed that no one has replied to my request for help. This laptop has experienced BSODs and recovered from bad shutdowns. Something is wrong. I have run MemTest and also ChkDsk checking both items. I'm trying to look at what updates are available and when I go to some Matrix it says there are no matching documents for my product. There is a link for IdeaPad and ThinkPad. I inserted the laptop info there and got to this page: http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=130485 Is this the correct page for updates to the G570 and is it an IdeaPad? Would any of the updates listed help the BSOD? There is only one read-me (for the bios update) and that seems to mention XP in the Win7 64 bit download. Aside from the System error/critical events, I found a faulting application for igfxsrv.exe which has to do with Intel. Can anyone help me with this recuring BSOD and possibly any updates that might help? I am offered two optional updates from Microsoft: Intel Corp. display Intel HD Graphic Family - released August 2011. Lenovo Display - Thinkpad display 1366 x 768 released March 2011 Sincerely, Libra

Avast is a good antivirus, but sometimes it causes BSOD. Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. At least as a test. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

I've been received BSOD's and freezing during start-up or even during boot mode for the past two days on my toshiba laptop. It's a miracle that I'm even able to use Safe mode at the moment -- it took me like 10 tries -- so I'm trying to type this up quickly before I encounter another problem.
Here are the dumps.

Answer:BSODs on Toshiba Satellite notebook

The most defitive minidump error is 0x000000D3: DRIVER_PORTION_MUST_BE_NONPAGED
Basically a driver is attempting to access a higher IRQ Level as paged when it actually should be non-paged. This results in system crashes.

The driver in question is kl1.sys which belongs to your Kaspersky antivirus. Try uninstalling it via Safe Mode and reboot. Then reinstall and see if that helps.

I do believe that I have the latest drivers installed from the Asus website but am unsure whether this is the issue: ASUS VivoBook Max X541UA Driver & Tools| Laptops | ASUS Global.

Question: X8100 or G73SW?

I'm looking to buy myself a new laptop since i blew up my old computer.
I'm looking for something thats considerably powerful for around $2500.

I've come down to a choice between a clevo X8100 and an asus G73SW-A1 both of which i want to modify a little by putting an SSD in and extending the warranty to 3 years on the one I buy.

I've never even heard of clevo before so despite a review I read MALIBAL VEDA Series Performance, Benchmarks and Conclusion
I'm still skeptical about it. Also the Clevo I'm looking at is different to the one in this review.

I live in Australia so I have to deal with gst and other junk if i buy overseas

So This is the place that I have found to buy them.
G73SW-A1
ASUS G73SW laptop notebook - G73SW-FHD-TZ016V - G73SW-A1 - 17.3 inch gaming laptop with GTX 460M

Clevo
Metabox X8100 - Clevo X8100 laptop notebook - CrossFire ATi HD 5870 graphics - 18.4 inch Gaming laptop

Which way should I go?
each one will wind up being roughly $2500-$2600 after SSD
Also are there any trustworth reviews on the Clevo?

Answer:X8100 or G73SW?

Never heard of Clevo. ASUS is #1 in my book.

To start off, I have gotten my custom build up and running.
Unfortunately, not too it's fullest power and that is why I'm here.
I am trying to run my build for video editing purposes.
I have 2 8-core processors on a server MB.
At the time, I was having many BSODs because of the fact that Windows did not want to run anymore than 2 cores(total).
I finally disabled all of them but 2, so I could at least use the build.
But I am back here because I want to find out the problem as to why it won't let me run 16 cores.
I have tried every Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows Server(2008 & 2016) and still, it just throws up a BSOD if I run more than 2 cores on any of them.

I get 3 BSOD's RIGHT after my ASUS screen loads. One each time it restarts.

I'm getting random BSOD's usually after many hours and after hybernating(closing lid).
Have run Memtest, no errors.
Reinstalled Atheros LAN Driver.
Ran verifier for 4 hours(had to stop it because I could'nt play decently, was slower than usual)
Uninstalled Daemon Tools and SPTD.

Still getting BSOD's...

Is Windows 7 . . .

Might be your ESET. I would replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials, at least to test it.

Another newcomer providing another problem about BSODs.

I have this ASUS G60JX-RBBX05 notebook since June 2010, and it wasn't until december that I started getting a BSOD error notice: the bugcode_usb_driver. Since then, I've been gettin' a good amount of these same errors, and it's growing to be a nuisance when it comes to the prospect that my laptop might crash during a note-taking class. I send my computer to a local computer technician, and he made a thorough diagnosis that resulted in nothing. Right after I got the computer back from him, four days later, the dreaded BSOD came back; what's worse, there have been two BSODs in one day (today). That's when I had enough, but before I give this computer a full system recovery, I decided to go to this forum and hope that you guys would give a solution to my endless blues.
It's a Windows 7 home premium edition, 64-bit computer, the OS was built into the system when I bought it. It has a Intel i5 M430 processor and Nvidia GeForce GTS 360M. My ASUS AC/DC Adapter says it's a model ADP-120ZB; input 100-240v, 50-60hz; voltage 19v, current 6.32A...and I'm not sure what N193 and V85 represent, but they're bolded and largely text.
That's all the info I have. My previous laptops had problems, but they never (or very rarely) had blue screen of deaths, so this comes as a shock to me. I might have to go Apple because of this downward spiral of buggy notebooks. My mini-dump files are below.

Answer:Frequent BSODs from my new ASUS Laptop

UPDATE:

I'm not sure how or why this is happening; these BSODs just happen arbitrarily, even when I'm not doing anything. I tried plugging off the USB mouse for a while, since the error called it bugcode_usb_driver, but the BSOD popped up. Maybe I was using a specific program at the time to improve the visual game quality, so I closed that program and the BSOD still occured. I tried closing the bittorrent program since I heard the torrents can lead to these errors, but the same thing happens. Afterwards, another BSOD occured when I took off the power supply to pack my laptop to school; for some reason, the screen lights didn't dim after the plug was removed, so I open/closed the lid and POOF, another BSOD. Then on the same day when that latter BSOD happened while I was idling on a message board I frequently go to, another one just came out of the blue.

Let me stress on the latest BSOD: no usb ports were used, the bittorrent and video program were not open, I didn't close the lid, the only things that are connected to the computer are the power supplies and the headphone/mic jack used for the external speakers. I still got a BSOD!

What else am I suppose to remove just to avoid this frequent blues?

Hello there!

I got my first ASUS M4A89GTD PRO wich have exactly same problems. Now i have M4A77T and BSOD continues. Just last night my friend called and his ASUS sabertooth is having random bsods

Ive tested with my current A-data memory with Microsoft memory test 8hours and Memtest86 7,5 hours. No errors!

Testing have included Athlon/phenom, SSD/hdd, AMD 4870/5870, only Zalman 850w PSU is still same.

I found that ASACPI.sys would solve many bsods, but unfortantely that didnt do the trick. I think most stable system is gained when no windows updates are installed at all.

I couldnt get System Health report, poor thing crashed everytime i tried to run it. I attach another health report after i restore system image. After restoration system started acting unstable again (SP1 installed).

All help is appreciated!

Hey,

I've had 4 BSODs since I installed the OS on my Zenbook UX32LA. The RAM has been tested using MemTest86 for a few hours (full run), with no errors reported. All the latest windows updates (except some MS apps I don't want on my PC) are installed, and the drivers are latest too, afaik. The BIOS is latest too. I've updated the Intel HD Graphics driver and the Atheros Wi-Fi driver since the OS installation.

There's nothing common to the particular BSODs (no single user action causing them), at least from my perspective as a user.

I've attached a screenshot of my laptop's hardware configuration and a zip file with the 4 BSOD dumps. If there's any more information that's needed to work this out (specific driver versions and more detailed summary of the hardware come to mind), I'll be happy to post it on request.

Thanks for you help in advance.

Hello all, I've been having a huge amount of trouble with my computer lately, I've tried everything I could think of. Even replacing the RAM when I thought it was the culprit. Plus 3 total Restores to Factory Settings.

Here are my specs;

ASUS CM1630 - Everything is standard minus the following:
8 GB RAM - Crucial (verified to be compatible by their tool but I don't recall the exact set I got)
Windows 7 64 bit
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series
PSU: Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus Series 500W ATX12V V2.3 Power Supply (RS500-PCARD3-US)

The most recent restore to factory settings seemed to be going well but I encountered BSODs upon updating my graphics driver. So I rolled back and decided to not update it at all (for now). Same thing happening but with Windows Updates, now. I rolled back again but it's still not working correctly, with the occasional BSOD. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to them, either. Some are during high-stress things like Minecraft or World of Warcraft. Othertimes when I'm only running Spotify and Skype.

Here's the only minidump I've been able to grab. I'll add any more as I get them.

Also the thing from one of the BSOD's I've gotten. The messages vary, although since this last wipe I've been getting mostly the regular ones without specific codes and Pagefault in Nonpaged Area.
I'll tack on this, if it helps any,
This one happened with just Spotify / Skype.

I have this ASUS laptop, which I bought a year ago. I think I remember getting blue screens of death within a month of two of using it but have avoided sending it off because I don't want to go a week or two without a computer if I can avoid it.

The computer has been upgraded to Windows 10, and I bought and installed extra RAM before using it. It has 16 GB instead of the standard 8. I've never overclocked it. Updates happen automatically.

Sometimes games crash while I'm playing without the whole computer crashing, but on occasion, I get a BSOD, usually while scrolling on websites in Chrome or in Windows Explorer.

I've had viruses, but the BSODs were happening before that. I use Webroot antivirus, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, JRT (Junkware Removal Tool), and AdwCleaner.

I downloaded BlueScreenView, which gave me the following information. Any ideas?

Hello,
I have an Asus K53SV laptop which has had multiple BSODs ever since updating to Windows 8. By then it had been reverted to Windows 7 and upgraded to Windows 10 when it was released. The BSODs didn't stop and they are always random. Sometimes it's memory management, other times it's the drivers... I have done the RAM test with no issues for more than 4 hours. I don't know what to do anymore so I'm asking for help here. I have attached the DM log collector tool file and removed around 10 dump files since the limit of uploading is 8mb.

Hello. Replaced my motherboard with the same make and model under a warrranty program with ASUS. The motherboard is the P5Q. I did not have these issues at the last moments of using the original P5Q before sending it to ASUS. I noticed this issue right from the start after connecting the necessary hardware components to get the system running (motherboard, power supply (BFG 800W), processor (Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550), processor heat sink, 1 DVD burner drive (LG brand), and a hard drive (WD Caviar Blue 500GB), graphic card (ATI Radeon 5670), memory (installed 2 sets of Corsair DDR2 XMS2 2 x 2 GB modules or 2 TWIN2X4096-6400C5 for a total of 8 GB), mouse and keyboard). I used the same originally installed Windows 7 SP1 64-bit with the exchanged ASUS P5Q motherboard. Question: Asus Notebook

I have an Asus Lamborghini VX1 notebook that came preloaded with Vista Ultimate 32.

I recently upgraded to Vista x64.

Most of the drivers are ok, barely. The one main driver I can not seem to resolve is the Display Driver. Device Manager names it a standard graphic adapter, though I know it is a Geforce 7400 by nvidia.

I have downloaded a driver from nvidia manually and trying to install, it tells me I dont have Vista running.

I tried automatically detecting on nvidia and it advises to visit Asus website.

I visited Asus and could not find any drivers matching a 64bit version.

Has anyone any ideas?

Answer:Asus Notebook

Please ensure you are downloading this driver :

GeForce Release 178

If the problem persists, look in Add/Remove Programs and see if nVidia is referenced in there. If so, uninstall it, reboot, and try reinstalling the driver set.

If that doesn't apply or does not work, go into Control Panel - Device Manager and right click on your Display Adapter and click "uninstall". Again reboot, and try reinstalling the driver set.

Answer:Asus Notebook won

You mean NETbook. If you're trying to burn songs from itunes that have DRM (digital rights management) you cannot burn those to disk. You can only play them with itunes or your apple device. They won't burn to disk and if copied to another device, they won't work.

I don't know enough about computers to figure out what the heck is wrong, but it is making me lose my mind. This laptop is only a few months old and it is causing me major headaches. It usually goes BSOD at random, but after many tests that chance seems to be higher when listening to music, watching videos or playing games (especially if multi-tasking with something else).

The only thing I can tell you for sure after a quick look at the dumps (sorry short on time right now)
Is the asus auto update tool was running every time you crashed, I would remove it temporarily and see if the frequency goes down or if the crashes even stop at all.
Get back to me on that one and hopefully I've have more time later.

I built this system 5 months ago and have had several random BSODs averaging 1 per week. I recently added a second 8 GB RAM stick in addition to my original 8 GB stick. They are as similar as I could get, since the original model is no longer available.
Orig: Patriot Viper Xtreme 8 GB PX38G1600C11, New: Patriot 8 GB PSD38G16002H
both are DDR3, 1600 MHz, PC3-12800, CL11, 1.5V
The memory is not running in dual-channel mode.
My hard drives are:
orig. WD 500 GB (WDC WD5001AALS-00E3AO)
recently added: Samsung 250 GB SSD 840 EVO
I migrated my C: drive from the hard drive to the new SSD
I have always gotten occasional BSODs with this build but recently they have increased in frequency to about 1 per day. The BSODs seem to be truly random and I haven't been able to relate them to anything in particular that I've been doing.
I ran the SF Diagnostics and have uploaded the results.
Please review it and see if you can find my problem.

Hello All,

I've had my Asus N53SM-E72 for a few weeks now and have been getting persistent BSODs. I installed an additional 8gb of RAM before I used the computer for the first time (2x4gb) and after the first round of BSODs I ran memtest and realized that the 2gb stick which came with the laptop was faulty. Removed it and did not have any more problems. I realized that the RAM sticks however were not in their optimal locations and last week I moved them and after that the BSODs began again. I have ran memtest again (5 passes) and it did not show any errors. WhoCrashed continues to say that it is a software error though I have tried to update every driver I could. Would greatly appreciate any help, bought this laptop because my old one stopped being reliable and have so far been pretty disappointed. Have attached all information. Thanks.

Answer:Persistent BSODs with various BC Codes-Brand New ASUS Laptop

I'm looking at an ASUS V6J notebook. The site I want to purchase from offers two variations. The V6J-C and the V6J-S.

As far as I can tell, the only major difference is that the "S" allows me to select a higher clocked processor where the "C" does not not. I plan on sticking with the T2300 so that doesn't mean anything to me anyway. I also noticed a slight difference in the warranty and some extra options to change in the "S" but I don't plan on changing anything. With all that in mind, should I just go with the "C" and save a few bucks, or go with the "S" because it has something I"m missing?

I'll be using this notebook for college, multimedia, light gaming, and business applications.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Peace

Anthony

go with the V6J-S. you never know, it might reveal something useful in the future one day....

Answer:Asus notebook problem ..

If you give us the make and model of this notebook we can look up the manuals / data sheets to see how or if the battery comes out. And how old it is.

Two possibilities come to mind. One is the battery could be 'cooked', ie too old to hold charge. The other is one I have seen on multi-voltage multi-computer chargers, chargers which are designed to work with a wide range of different laptops. This type of charger has a 'select voltage' switch on it and as a safety measure the manufacturers set it to the lowest level. Again, the manual will tell you what the input voltage should be and if the voltage is significantly below this it may run the computer but not have enough volts to charge the battery.

It is a sad fact of life that after a while all batteries lose their efficiency and if this notebook is over three years old this is a real possibility.

I have Avertec Notebook Series 3200. I have tried to connect external Asus CD/DVD RW to my notebook via USB port. When I opened device manager, windows recognized it, but it had yellow exclamation mark on it. I got folowing message: ''This device is not configured correctly (Code 1). To update the drivers for this device, click Update Driver". Tried to update driver from the CD that i got with my CD/DVD RW and from the notebook (because I have copied all the files from driver CD to the notebook), wizard opened and said PLEASE WAIT WHILE WIZARD INSTALLS THE SOFTWARE. This took forever, almost whole day, bot it was never finished. I unistalled it from device manager, rebooted the machine, tried another option such as "ADD HARDWARE", wizard opened and same thing happened. Also, soon as I connect this CD/DVD RW to my notebook, the whole windows works slower. Is this normal?? Is this something to do with my BIOS, because when my original internal DVD RW broke, I am affraid that the person that was trying to fix it, disabled it in my BIOS?? If that's the case, how will I enable it in BIOS?? When I opened BIOS I did not see that option. Please, help!!!!!

My Asus Eee notebook (XP Home edition OS) will not shut down normally. I have to use the power button to shut it down. We have traced it to the Weatherbug program. To shut down we have to remove Weatherbug by using cntrl/alt/delete to remove it from the processors running. Then the notebook shuts down normally.
Anybody have a fix?
Thanks

How do I reboot my Asus Notebook PC? When I power up my laptop, there's this message that says "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key." Please help!

Answer:Help with Rebooting Asus Notebook PC

That won't be solved by an OS reset. It likely means a problem with your hard drive. Go into cmos/bios setup and make sure the hard drive is seen OK. Also make sure it's enabled in the boot order--either the first boot device or second behind the cd/dvd drive. If none of that helps it probably means your hard drive is bad.

See if you can upgrade to 3GB or 4GB of RAM and install Windows 7 RTM (OR RC) 64-bit.

I would use 64-bit but I had some heating issues so I went back to 32-bit and now its working perfectly.
I ran Crysis benchmark for 9 hours on 32-bit easily without a fan, but on 64-bit the system about blows after 10 minutes.

Answer:HELP with Asus F3Sc notebook

Go back to ASUS and download the Vista 64bit drivers for your model.
They should work. Try compatability mode if they won't install directly.

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

After looking further you will need to download the Vista 32bit drivers and try installing in compatability mode.

They have over 40 items listed under 64bit but not one is a driver.

So I bought an ASUS X550LA notebook with an i7 processor, plenty of RAM and storage, Win 8.1. Thinking such a sweet processor would work well, even for gaming for my grandson, I assumed the graphics would be just fine and didn't explore it. Oops. It uses onboard graphics, max resolution 1366 x 768. My fault, I know. Is there anything I can do to improve the graphics? Is there space for a graphics card in one of these laptops? Thanks for any assistance. Learned the hard way on this one.

Answer:ASUS Notebook Graphics

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Unfrotunately, with a notebook you are pretty much stuck with what you have in the way of hardware.

It looks like that model has Intel HD 4400 graphics which is pretty low end and only really up to the task of internet browsing, office, email etc in my opinion.

Question: ASUS notebook slow

My notebook has slowed up dramatically. It has 4gb RAM. It has lost its desktop icons at start-up. The CPU is almost always at 100% usage.
A quick look at the internet shows that some of the start-up programs may be malware.
Windows Defender shows a number of possible registry entries that may be malware.
I have attempted to remove P4P.exe with HJT but this has no effect.

Hi folks ive just recently bought an asus Notebook pc x102b and was wondering if anyone can give me a few hints on how to keep it speeded up and how to clean it (wat s/ware to use to keep it up to date ) ?? thanking to anyone who answers in advance .

Answer:Asus notebook problem ..

First of all - welcome to BC !

Assuming you have working antivirus already installed then perhaps the following, all available from BC as free downloads. If you don't have working A/V then selecting and installing one is your first priority !  I use the following but there are alternatives.

Ccleaner by Piriform. an excellent tool for removing temporary files which clutter up the system -

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/ccleaner/

Note that one section of Ccleaner is a registry cleaner. You are strongly advised NOT to use these tools, see this image -

https://www.dropbox.com/s/0bhr5xo96sshvp7/Ccleaner%20settings%20window.jpg?dl=0

Then I would recommend the use of both Malwarebytes and Super AntiSpyWare which you can get respectively here -

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/malwarebytes-anti-malware/
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/superantispyware/

Both of these come as free and paid for versions. The main difference is that with the free ones you have to run the scans yourself and they do not offer real time scanning. They are both anti-malware products but with a slightly different emphasis on the threats they search for. Have a look at them and make up your own mind which is better for you - paid or free - but I would recommend the use of both.

Over and above that, since prevention is both better and easier than cure, practice safe surfing. Don't open e-mail attachments unless you ar... Read more

Answer:Asus laptop/notebook problems

Well, you're in a difficult situation. If the Password Hint doesn't ring any bells for you, then according to forum rules:

No subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures. If a user persists and/or the activity is obviously illegal the staff reserves the right to remove such content and/or ban the user. This would also mean encouraging the use or continued use of pirated software is not permitted, and subject to the same consequences.

Perhaps your gran-daughter will hopefully recall the password later.

Hi, apologies if this has been posted already or is in wrong thread.

I bought this in December 2016 but have hardly used it much. Today I opened it up, screen came on, tried to delete a browser tab, screen went blank (but lights were on). After a while of blank screen I pressed in power on/off button until it shut down, left it for a few minutes, tried to restart, nothing happens.

I've tried holding in power button for 60 seconds, it's not coming on. Tried several times, no luck. Tried leaving plug on to charge battery for a bit, still no luck.

It's got a built in battery so I can't get to that unless I take open the back panel, which I assume will invalidate the warranty.

Any ideas what might have happened and what I could do? It's Windows 10.

Thanks in advance!

This issue was raised in another thread which was closed out before it was resolved. I have an ASUS Notebook K53e and I want to disable the touchpad on it which the specific make/model is ELAN PS/2 Port Smartpad. You should be able to do this with Fn+F9 however that keyboard function does not work on my computer as the guy in the previous thread. When I got to devmgmt.msc->Properties on the device->Driver , the "Disable" button is greyed out. I did not receive a driver CD with the machine I purchased . I need this thing disabled because it interferes with the typing very badly. Where do I go from here? Thanks,

Answer:Cannot disable ASUS Notebook Touchpad

Well, I just found the fix myself after posting this thread. You have to go to Control panel->Hardware and Sound->Devices & Printers-> Right click on the PC device->Mouse Settings->ELAN tab there is an option to Stop Device. Pain the arse mate

My roommate just got his new Asus G73 notebook (i7 Lynnfield, 6GB ram, Radeon Mobility 5870 1GB, and Windows 7 Home Premium 64). The problem he's having is with the function key. It's working for a few functions, such as screen brightness, screen on/off, wifi on/off, and suspend. These are the only working keys on the F1-F12 keys...volume control, mute, and the keyboard backlight remain unresponsive.

It's strange though, the FN key works for certain other keys on the keyboard, such as the page up/down keys located on the '9' and '6' of the numpad, but the calculator function (located on the numpad 'enter' key) does not work, nor do the media controls (pause, next/back, stop) work, which are located on the arrow keys.

It appears that pressing FN does something, however, as if I hold FN and press F11 in a browser, it will not go into fullscreen mode as it normally should - just nothing happens (F11 should 'mute' the speakers when functioning properly).

The keyboard drivers are the latest offered from the Asus website, and Windows is entirely up to date.

Anyone have any ideas here?

I just put my ASUS UL80VT notebook (Windows 7 64 bit) into hibernation for the first time but when I tried to bring it out I got an error message saying that there was a problem with the hibernation file and it was unable to recover properly. It did load eventually but when it did I found that my screen resolution had been set to 800x600 and limited to 1024x768 - checking the hardware status it says that there is a problem with the display adapters (Device Status: This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)). USB 2.0 has also been affected and the options for 'Sleep' and 'Hibernation' have been grayed out from the shut down menu. It might just be my imagination but, to cap things off, I think the system in general is running slower than it used to.

I tried downloading and re-installing the VGA drivers from the ASUS support site but it has absolutely no effect.

Not really sure what else to do at this point, any suggestions would be appreciated.

It isnt the "VGA" drivers you need. You need the full driver for your notebook and version of windows (64bit or 32)

Hey guys. I have an ASUS notebook, and I wanna get rid of some bloatware.

I noticed in task manager there are a bunch of weird processes such as WDC.exe, KBFiltr.exe, Hcontrl.exe, and ATKOSD.exe and such which have no description, but do not allow me to end the process or access their file location.

They are all within the directory of C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ATK Package\ATK Hotkey

I googled some, and apparently they have to do with hotkeys. But I just plain don't trust these applications, even though SAS, Avast, and MBAM all say they're safe.

If they're not necessary, I probably don't use them anyways because I've never used hotkeys before (Unless this has to do with the FN keys for stuff like volume, etc...???)

Before I uninstall ATK Package (Which should in theory get rid of these processes), I just wanted to hear your take the situation before I touch it.

So is Atk Package safe to uninstall? Would I lose any features?

Answer:Uninstalling ATK Package (ASUS notebook)

It is safe to uninstall ATK however it is likely that the FN key functions will stop working.

Well I have an asus EEE PCnotebook about a year old. When I turn it on it says "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\system32\1_intl.nls You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair." Well the problem is it's a notebook and doesn't have a place to put in disks! What should I do to fix this error and be able to use the computer again?

Answer:Asus notebook startup problem?

It appears that initially this device came with a Linux operating system with later versions coming with windows XP. So is your unit this one (original) or is it a later version?http://www.futurelooks.com/impressions-of-the-asus-eee-pc-notebook-computer/Having read all 4 pages of the functionality of the product there is no reference to adding of items other than through the SD card slot. However as I'm sure you know with all the available USB ports you could if required install an external optical read/write device which would address the need to incorporate material from a "disc". However if it is typical of todays computers you do NOT have a disc of the operating system. So where to go from here? Hopefully others may come along with some more ideas. truenorth

I have a two-year-old ASUS notebook that has been having starting problems. 90% of the time when starting from shutdown, sleep, or hibernation (I've tried them all) the computer will shut down and restart immediately after entering my password. This will happen twice and then Win 10 will go to the error screen where you can choose troubleshooting or restart PC. If I restart PC, the system starts normally.

The Event Viewer just gives me the 'Event ID 41 kernel-power' error. Not a lot of help.

The problem has existed, to some extent, since the PC was new and running Win 8.1

The PC has since been upgraded to Win 10 and to have two hard drives, a Samsung 850 EVO SSD boot, and the the original 1 TB HDD converted to a data drive. If anything, the problem has gotten progressively worse over time.

The BIOS and all drivers, as far as I can tell, are the most current versions.

Numerous scans and utilities have indicated no malware or other problems.

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this frustrating problem.

Thanks!

Hello,
I recently started noticing B.S.O.D. s on my laptop.  The first time it happened was when I plugged in my mouse dongle.  It blue screened immediately. Unfortunately I did not get a cause or code.  This time, I was working on some image files and it crashed again.  The error said BAD POOL CALLER.  (Using BlueScreenView.)

I have accessed the blue boot screen by hitting F9 when loading but I get stuck at thatpoint. The notebook freezes after I select any of the 3 options From the menu. I want to access the troubleshoot option so I can restore my notebook to factory settings. Please can someone help me, it's not old and I'm unable to use it thank you

My notebook presently runs on Windows 8.1. I would live to get rid of this and either go to Windows 7 or indeed Windows 10. MS say that my notebook is compatible with Windos 10 but googling the upgrade I note that many have had problems resulting in having to download new drivers or even having boot-up errors and screens of death! Has anyone carried out the upgrade on the same Notebook as mine? And with what results?

Hi Survey. I am replying with an Asus T1001T transformer notebook. It upgraded from w8.1 easily and without incident. I lost temporarily drivers for Epson Expression, but they were easily restored on line. I was just getting used to ( and maybe preferring ) W8.1 rather than W7, and to be honest, can see litte benefit in W 10, other than I now have a free, future proof OS. Then again perhaps there could not be a greater benefit. One thing you will lose is the charms bar. But you will get additional features that were in W7

Hello people. I would like to request assistance. I need to disable the touchpad on my Asus G74Sx notebook. Is there some kind of program I can download that will allow me to disable the touchpad?

Pressing function F9 does not disable the touchpad, and going into the BIOS and disabling the internal pointing device also disables the keyboard, so that doesn't work for me.

I have downloaded all the drivers for my notebook numerous times, and I don't know what else to do to try to turn off this touchpad. Going into the control panel and disabling the touchpad that way, also doesn't work.

I run Windows 7 Home Premium.

Please assist me

Thank you very much

I have an ASUS X200CA Notebook PC. Today I pulled it out (haven't used it in months) and attempted to do a factory reset. At first I just turned it on, to make sure it was working before I performed the reset, and it came on just fine. Then I shut it off and turned it back on, this time while holding the F9 key. I may have been mistaken, but at the time I thought that was the correct way to do a factory reset. A menu came up and the options didn't match the instructions I was reading so I shut the thing off again. Then I tried to turn it back on, and this time it didn't come on. A few lights below the keyboard lit up and the notebook beeped, and then they went dark again. It does this every time I try to turn it on. Lights/tiny beep, then nothing. It's like it's starting to turn on and fails. The screen remains black the whole time. I've tried holding the button down for thirty seconds with the adapter plugged in, with the adapter not plugged in, taking the battery out, putting it back in, etc. Nothing works. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Switch between IGP & GPU notebook Asus A52JC

You may need to read the manual as different laptops use different systems - newer ones switch automatically, using onboard graphics for boot up & general running to conserve power, and switching to the dedicated graphics only when needed. An alienware machine I saw had a Fn key to toggle between them, and a Lenovo had the settings under 'power management in Control Panel. So either have a look around your machine or check in the manual/manufacturer's website."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..."

Help, I recently bought an Asus EEE notebook configured in Spanish. It has 160 gb memory split into "C" and "D" drives. Windows XP Home in Spanish is installed on the C drive.I would like to install my XP Professional onto the D drive, but the notebook has no CD or DVD drives. However there are 3 USB sockets. Is it possible to load XP Professional from an installation disk to a memory stick and then to the netbook (D drive), if so, how??The other question is, can I change the installed language from Spanish to English from within the program ??.Hoping one of the resident whizzkids can help,BRI

Answer:DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE - Asus N56D Notebook

The minidumps are all pointing to the driver: usbhub.sys which is your default hub driver for USB. Please make sure you use Windows Updates to make sure you are update and that you can't update any more. It may also be something plugged into your USB port that is causing the BSOD so try plugging and un-plugging see if you get any BSOD's.

You might want to update your chipset/motherboard drivers and any other drivers to Windows 8 64bit versions if possible by checking your manufacturers website:

ASUS - Notebooks- ASUS N56DP

I have also found some drivers you should consider updating or un-installing/removing if un-needed:

MarvinBus64.sys - likely a part of Pinnacle Studio's Marvin Bus: Driver Reference Table - MarvinBus64.sys
atkwmiacpi64.sys - ATK WMIACPI Utility: Driver Reference Table - atkwmiacpi64.sys
AiCharger.sys - Asus Charger Driver: Driver Reference Table - AiCharger.sys (this is known BSOD creator, please un-install it)
ASMMAP64.sys - LENOVO ATK Hotkey ATK0101 ACPI UTILITY: Driver Reference Table - ASMMAP64.sys
afcdp.sys - Acronis File Level CDP Kernel Helper: Driver Reference Table - afcdp.sys

Review of Asus S96J Notebook, First review, Go easy on me.

Review Of Asus s96J.

I ordered this Laptop from 1toppc.com, after careful planning of my needs; They were

Mobility
Small(er) size
Decent performance

The s96j seemed to fit the bill. I got mine equipped with

2.13Ghz Intel Core Duo
2GB DDR2 667Mhz (Corsair)
X1600 256Mb Mobility
80 GB 5200 RPM SATA Drive
DVD +/- RW
Intel Pro Wireless

_________________Pros of the Notebook_______________________________

-Price- I was really looking for value here. Finding that middle range where price meets performance was something that took me along to accomplish. For around 1600 USD this was a lot of notebook with not a lot of excess spending.

-Usability- I wanted a notebook that delivered both performance and ease of use. I needed good enough battery life, without settling for sub par gaming. Again, this was a very hard niche to find.

-Quality- This notebook is rock solid. The keyboard has very little give (just the way I like it) It doesn?t run too hot. The screen has very good color and response time. I have used CRT?s all my life, and this LCD blew them out of the water.

-Future Ready- With a Core Duo (Socket 479) this notebook is ready for multithreaded applications. Also, while it is not confirmed, the notebook is rumored to be Core 2 Duo ready (memrom)

Hi! Good day!

My friend asked me to install a free antivirus in her notebook (EEE). I found out that the notebook is heavily infected.

Regedit, taskmanager, command console, and view folder options are not accessible and is locked by the administrator, when in fact the user is in administrator mode.

It can't be booted into safe mode either. BSOD occur everytime i try booting into safe mode.

Too many hijacked hosts, so i deleted the hosts file and internet came back. I was hoping to download a free antivirus but it can't be installed.

Thank you very much!

This laptop can't see any wireless networks. (where it has been able to connect before)

the wireless switch is enabled, and when I try to turn the switch on and off, the icon doesn't specify whether or not its actually on or off. My router is broadcasting the signal because three of my other wireless devices (ipod touch, acer 10'' laptop, iPad ) can connect to the wireless network. I ran a system recovery to try and reset any configurations that could be causing problems, and even after the system recovery the problem persists.

Any extra advice would be appreciated.

Sorry if I forgot to mention anything and I'll answer with another post

Hey Guys, i also have an Asus M51VR notebook with Vista Home Premium 32( ) just like a few of the other guys on the forum... I had this same problem as you guys already figured out with your icons disappearing; it is your power settings. You just need to change it from low or quiet to high or entertainment or make your own setting.I was just curious if you guys have now stumbled upon the same problem i have. The Real ProblemMy Audiodg.exe just started going haywire when i use any program that takes extreme audio support (games, movies, adobe programs, even internet & movies). I read that the problem comes mostly from our audio cards special settings are not supported for vista. Now, i decided to update my drivers for this Realtek HD onboard soundcard to solve that problem; but on their website you could only download with an FTP Server and all their passwords didnt work... it would time out so! I got the next best thing a later version of the driver on download.com. After installing it it did absolutely nothing. So then i set my soundcards output to decently low quality and updated vista os. My computer works as good as it did before when i had all these settings on high and im just upset that it cant handle as much as it could before just because my vista just went nuts... Anyone know the real solution to this problem?

hi,
The power button isn't working.
The only way I can boot up is by booting into Asus Express Gate Cloud (which is a different button that starts this Asus mini-os with 4 apps) then pressing "switch OS" to boot into Windows 7.

But since Windows 7 is so slow, I decided to upgrade to Windows 10.
After upgrade it worked fine (although without performance improvement IMO), and restarted.
But after shutdown and starting the Asus Express Gate Cloud, the "switch OS" button does not work - leads to a black screen and remains stuck there until i take out the battery.

Any ideas?

the first ones rimmptsk.sys , rimsptsk.sys , rixdptsk.sys are for your Ricoh Memorystick Controller ?
ATKACPI.sys etc are from Asus and you need to go to your laptop manufacturers website and download all the latest drivers ?
Also check you have the latest bios ?
finally goto the Realtek website and update your network card driver ?

let us know how it goes ?
