Problem When Windows Wake Up from Sleep

Question: Problem When Windows Wake Up from Sleep

Hi!

Recently i brought an HP dv6-3180sp Laptop and format the hard drive and install my version of Windows (Windows 7 Ultimate x64).

But i have a problem with the Sleep mode in my computer.

When i put it to Sleep when open the lid the Biometric device to login does not work and if i insert the password i receive a empty screen.

If I want to work again i need to force a shut down. And power on again.

I don't know how to resolve this trouble.

Someone can help me?

System spec is below.

The problem.

I pressed the circle button with the vertical lline in Vista (from pressing Start) This sent the computer to sleep or hibanate I dont know which. I cannot get the computer to come back on. The monitor remains black (no picture) and says no signal.

I have deprived the computer of power. This was achieved by unplugging it from the wall, and removing the power cable also from the computer.

I have tried restarting the computer but to no avail. I have also removed the keyboard and mouse when I try starting up. I have also tried, holding in the power button and then restarting.

No matter what I try still no joy. No signal on the monitor. The lights in all cases come on, on the base unit and I can hear fans spinning etc.

I have read about this issue in round about ways but all of the fixes seem to rely on actually being in windows.

I'm at my wits end please help !
Thanks

Answer:Windows Hibernate sleep wake up problem

I would remove your video card and then replace it back it. Then I would watch it start up and see if anything wired goes on inside your case. If not and all looks good but there is still no monitor signal I would check to see if it is set to the right signal, the newer monitors have DVI VGA etc and you must properly select it.

If none of this helps I will look into it further.

In your specs you also say that you are using ati radeon 4870x2, a dvi card, but then you say under DVI cable "none"

While I am pretty certain this has been posted repeatedly, I'm honestly at my wit's end. Asus Essentio CG5750, i5, Logitech G500 mouse, LG screen. System has run pretty much without any problems until I put it into sleep mode. I've tried hard reboot - no response to either screen or mouse. Keyboard functions just fine. I tried using my system repair disc and it won't even respond to that.

Does anyone have any ideas or is this going to be a matter of take it to a shop and hope for the best?

In Device Manager, check your mouse and keyboard and ensure the box to enable these to wake your PC is checked. Also check your BIOS is up to date.

When I put my computer in sleep mode, it won't 'wake up'. I have to manually turn off the computer and then start it up again. This has happened twice. I'm not putting it into sleep mode until I find out what's wrong and that's exasperating as I normally leave my computer on all day so I can periodically play my games.

My PC is fairly new and I'm having problems with slow shutdowns/restarts and slow sleep/wakes. Recently it seems to fail waking altogether and restarts after a while instead. Usually during waking I just have a black screen for a long time before the reset/restart but sometimes I see the Windows log-in screen but it's unresponsive.
The problem predates my CPU undervolting and doesn't seem to change when I switch RAM settings back to Auto instead of XMP (I my RAM necessitates some kind of overclock in order to function at its rated speed).

Can anyone advise how to proceed? Thanks.

I bought my Lenovo Y560 back in July, and since then I have been experiencing a somewhat serious problem. Basically what happens is after I put my computer to sleep for a while and I wake it up I get either 2 of the following problems: 1- It freezes for a few secs and then I get the message "amd driver has crashed" (or something similar to that)2- I often start watching a video in FireFox and then I stop it before putting my computer to sleep. Now, once I turn it back on and I try to resume the video my FireFox freezes, I can still do things on the computer, but firefox won't close and, If I press ALT+F4 my computer freezes completly. I highly believe that my firefox has some sort of problem, and it's the one causing this, but it doesn't make much sense to me, since I have been using FF for ever in different systems and I have never experienced anything similar to this before. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit atm,  it's not the one that came by default, because I screwed up my Home Premium  after I intstalled linux, nevertheless everything else works perfectly aside from that. I never get bluescreens or anything like that. On a different topic I would like to know how could i use the code I have behind my laptop to get a free copy of windows Home Premium. Thx for your time, and have a great day.

Answer:Sleep/Wake up Problem

Try uninstalling FF and then see if the problem persists.(You have the option of deleting your FF profile or not, savedbookmarks, etc.)Use IE in the mean time.If no more problem, then re-install FF.Make sure your graphics driver is up to date.Use Magic Jellybean, or Activation Backup Restore toget the Windows key in use for easier activation in case you re-install.It is different than the key on your laptop. The programs can be found by searching the web.If it gets to the point where you do need to re-install,post back and a link can be found to download Windows 7.

I am running Windows 7 Professional x64, on a Hewlett Packard 8200 Elite SFF machine. I recently had a new motherboard installed (last one was burnt out), so I believe my problem is in Windows.

After several weeks of observation, I have found when the OS sleeps, regardless of whether I initiate the sleep or the OS does, I cannot shut the system down cleanly, i.e. it shuts down and after the fans go off (about 3-5 seconds later), the system restarts.

The restart from this error is not complete. In that, I mean it is only a partial boot and the cursor ends up in the left hand corner flashing. I can then hit <Cntl><Alt><Delete> to reboot and then do a shutdown, which shuts the system down cleanly.

I have also found if I restart the system at any time after it sleeps, the OS will cleanly shut down; otherwise I get the shutdown error.

Any ideas?

Answer:A Problem Shutting Down After Wake-up From Sleep

I would suggest checking to see if there are any bios updates available for your board.
You could also try setting the bios settings to default, as well as the power settings in windows.

Power Plan - Restore Default Settings

You can check HP's website for updates.

I have bought a brand new Lenovo ThinkPad T470s with 20 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, Intel i7 and preinstalled Windows 10 Pro one week ago. It's good hardware and I am pleased with it - expect for 2 major issues:If I suspend (set to sleep) the OS (by closing the lid or select it in the shutdown menu), sometimes (I really can't tell whats causing that, it occurs randomly no matter if I just booted the OS and no programms are running or if plenty of programms are running and the OS is up since a few hours or if I try to resume it after 30 seconds, 30 minutes or 8 hours) it does not wake up again properly, meaning the green light on the power button stops flashing and turning to steady green but the screen remains black. In that state the fingerprint reader is not working as well. I can use some Fn Buttons (Mute and Esc) but nothing brings the screen back excepting a hard reset by pushing the power button down for a few seconds. After such a breakdown, the OS sometimes refuses to start on the first try (the boot process stucks / shows the Lenovo logo forever). After restarting it a few times the OS comes back up (scanning/reparing the filesystem during the boot process). What I have tried so far:Did a factory reset a few timesInstalled the latest updates and drivers (yes I'm using the "lenovo - update and drivers tool")Tried out diffrent power options in the windows control panelTried out diffrent battery saving options in the intel graphics settingsBooted a Linux live distribution from a ... Hey all - has there been any encouraging news for the sleep/wake problems that have been plaguing so many? I've read unconfirmed rumors that MS is aware of the problems 7 has resuming from sleep (particularly on desktops) and is working on a fix. Like the others, I've bent over backwards updating drivers, changing BIOS settings, and clicking every possible power option in Win 7's control panel, to no avail.

It's nice that my computer goes to sleep, but my display never returns despite my hard drive, fan, etc. coming back to life. I hope that a viable workaround is possible until MS addresses the issue.

Aside from this issue, there is no doubt that 7 is their best offering to-date. If I have to abandon power management altogether, so be it. I'll keep my fingers crossed, though.

Try updating the motherboard's chipset driver. You can download the latest version from the PC/laptop makers website, or if it's a custom-built (no name) PC you can download it from the motherboard manufacturer's website.

Hi,

I am new here. Hoping someone can help me out with this issue. I work in IT so am not a complete computer bonehead and am at my wits end with this.

My laptop is about 4 years old, it's a toshiba. For whatever reason, it started taking 5+ minutes to wake up from sleeping. If it sleeps for an hour, it's OK.. but if you leave it sleep all night and try to wake it up in the morning, it's quite cranky. After the 5+ minute wake up, it performs as normal. It was running Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

Troubleshooting steps that I have taken are as follows.

Reinstalled windows. Issue was resolved! but after about 2-3 weeks, issue came back. I thought maybe it was some type of windows update, so I reinstalled windows again and paid closer attention to the updates. Issue presented itself again after 2-3 weeks, and there were no updates immediately done prior to it starting.

I started to think maybe it was something related to my hard drive, so i performed laptop surgery and swapped out my original hard drive with a solid slate drive, and installed windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (this laptop can support 64 bit so I figured why not upgrade.).

issue again was resolved for a few weeks, and now it's back to taking 5+ minutes to wake up again.

If you're turning the laptop on from scratch, it takes 10-15 seconds tops. if you're restarting, it's 10-15 seconds tops (man, I love SSD...)... if you're waking itup within the hour, its 1-2 seconds. But anything longer then that, 5+ minutes.

It ba... Read more

So, I have the X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card, and I've never had any problems with my sound. Nothing has ever acted up or anything.

I've recently tore my system down, and put it back together. and now for some reason my sound is acting up. It still works, but not all the time. Also my Internet is acting up the same way also.

so, everything was all good. and after rebuild Now when I put the system to sleep, when I wake it up I get a Windows message saying something about Windows something didn't respond. and my volume symbol in system tray is X'd Out. I have no sound. but if I wait about 20-30 seconds it just turns on all of a sudden, like the X-Fi is waking up slower than the computer is. But this has never happened in the past. So it works, but it's delayed. Same thing with my Internet, it's never had a problem. but now when I wake system up from sleep mode, the net doesn't work. and I hoped it would turn on like the sound does, but it doesn't. So I have to either Restart PC, or I can unplug, and replug in the Ethernet cable. then it works fine.

I'm not sure why both of these items are acting up, but they have never done this is the past.

Does anyone know why either of these things would be happening?

Thanks!

Answer:Problem with X-Fi Sound After Wake Up From Sleep Mode

Quite bizzare, I suffer from very similar issues to you after waking from sleep.

I also have an X-Fi card and I also recently rebuilt my machine. Now when I wake from sleep the Audio comes on straight away but it sounds fuzzy. The network connection then takes an age to re-establish, it's actually quicker for me to reboot.

The audio sorts itself out if I changed through the Entertainement, Game and Audio creation modes.

I haven't got anywhere in resolving this, apart from disabling my PC from going to sleep

I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with WinXPPro SP3, 2GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo E4600, and it is unreliable for Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring. I also wonder whether my Standby - Sleep - Suspend (S1 or S3) is working correctly.

When the PC is in Standby - Sleep - Suspend mode (S1 or S3), Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring work some of the time but not all of the time, and I'd like them to be 100% reliable.

These may be two different problems, but your advice will be appreciated. (Also, if I should post in a different forum, please advise.)

My Network Card is an Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection, and I recently upgraded its drivers using "generic" PROXP.exe from the Intel website, although this has not helped the problem. The specific driver file e1e5132.sys is now from 2009 -- it used to be from 2007. But, as I say, Wake on LAN from Standby was not and is still not reliable, both before and after the driver update.

In Settings .. Network Connections ... Local Area Connections ... Properties ... Configure ... Power Management, all the Wake on LAN options are checked ON:

- Wake on Directed Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet from Power Off State
- Wake on Link

The NIC card's Diagnostic checks are all OK.

My fax modem card is a Conexant D850 PCI V.92 Modem, and I have the most recent drivers dated 7/27/07, version 7.67.0.50. In Settings ... Phone and Modem Options ... Modems ... Properties, "Allow this device to bring... Read more

More to above: Dell has suggested I must re-install Windows. I've never done that, and I realize I'd probably lose all my applications and data - no good. Seems to me that's like using an atomic bomb to kill a mosquito. And why should I assume that will work?

But is there a way to re-install -- or maybe fix -- Windows that leaves everything else safe?

FYI - About a month or so ago, I ran SFC (System File Checker) in repair mode, and that didn't help with this problem.

Any ideas?

Severity: A

When waking up from sleep mode with a dual monitor setup, the computer does not display anything either monitor and has to be manually shut down. The problem does not seem related to motherboard settings such as Wake-On PCI-E, Spread Spectrum, or changing the suspend mode between S1/S3/S1 & S3. The cause of this problem began from a video card upgrade from a BFG 7600GT to an Asus HD4850.

The problem can be repeated with the following steps:
1.) Load Windows Vista after shutdown and don't log into a user account
2.) Wait at the login screen and then time 15-30 seconds before pressing the power button (assigned to sleep on press)
3.) Wait 15-30 seconds before pressing the power button again
4.) If computer woke-up, check off success on paper and repeat steps 2-3. If not, follow to step 5.
5.) Hold the power button and shut down the computer manually. Logged how many tries before it "craps out" from wake-up.

I am still fighting with "260 will not wake up from sleep problem" described in my post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/ThinkPad-Yoga-260-cannot-wake-up-from-s... I tried everything, fresh restore (5 times), boot from linux live, the laptop can't manage correct sleep, hybernation and even a simple shutdown. I can only switch on and off by pressing power button for more than 10 seconds. I tried to update the bios (from the lenovo website or from a bootable ISO) but it does just half of the job, when it tries to restart do finalize the process it goes again in a frozen state and can only restart by pressing power button for long time. Ok my laptop is out of warranty, but this has been clearly caused by a lenovo update, before that the lapotp was performing perfectly. There are several people with thinkpad reporting the same problem, lot of them with my same 260. The last one IDENTICAL problem 4 days ago: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Yoga-260-Does-not-wake-up/m-p/3930549 This is unacceptable, I went to a lenovo assistance and they asked me 750euros to change the motherboard. WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER LENOVO. I would like to hear an opinion from a Lenovo operator reading this forum, if any.

I've been searching for a while now trying to resolve this problem. There are loads of threads and I've tried loads of solutions like uninstalling and reinstalling drivers etc.

The situation I have is that Windows will sleep and wake perfectly fine if I use the remote that came with my TV tuner card but nothing else. If I try to wake it using the wireless USB keyboard I have it appears to power up but nothing happens. The power light goes from flashing to soluid but there doesn't appear to be any other movement. Equally when Windows Media Centre tries to wake to record it does the same thing.

Are there any suggestions of what I can try and what should I look at (and / or post here) to try and help debug?

Thank you in advance
Dean

Answer:Windows 7 won't wake up from Sleep

Dean,
Sometimes the batteries in my wireless mouse and keyboard go dead. Check those first.
I never have put my computer in sleep. I either use it or shut it off. IMO
Do a search in upper right hand corner for Windows Media problems.
Someone will probably be along to add other input so stay tuned.

Hello, i have a problem with my Win10 system 1607 Ver
When the system goes sleep, my keyboard and mouse got disabled but the power lights still works, so i need to push the restart or shutdown button to restart the system to make the wake up.
How can i make that the keyboard and mouse get worked by clicking on them and wake up the system instead of pushing restart or power button?
Sorry for my English.

Answer:Windows 10 does not wake up after sleep

It is an overly discussed topic about the S3 sleep state. If your bios is not set for Legacy USB devices, the OS is allowed to shut down the USB hub, wireless mouse and keyboard. You are going to have problems waking the system out of S3 state.

My computer will awake from sleep if it's in it for a short period of time. If it's been in sleep mode for a few hours, it won't wake up. I tried moving/clicking the mouse, pressing buttons on the keyboard. It won't even reboot/reset from the power on switch or the reset button. The only way to get it out of sleep is if I go and flip the power supply switch off and then on.

Answer:Windows 7 won't wake from sleep

Greetings, jkman.

You might try Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings - look at the settings there, such as Hard disk, Sleep, USB, etc., see if you can disable anything that appears to affect your symptoms.

My computer will awake from sleep if it's in it for a short period of time. If it's been in sleep mode for a few hours, it won't wake up.Click to expand...

That leads me to believe that there might be some extended power setting that's causing the freeze.

Hi Guys,
would like some help/advice please. I have installed Win7 clean install on my computer, my problems is that if I leave mu computer for say 30+ minutes windows goes to sleep/hibernates and I find it hard to wake up normally have to reboot.

I have been through all the power management settings, and selected Never to all the selections in the advanced section, also in my power plan. I have even formatted my Drive and reinstalled win7 but still have the same problem.

When it is asleep, I have a halfmoon key on my keyboard, I have tried pressing this to wake it up but to no avail, also pressed the main power button, but this normally shuts it down.

Is there anything I can do to stop this happening, run a small program to keep it awake, or alter something in commands to stop it.

Your help and advice is really appreciated
Thanks and Regards
Bob

7 has been running perfectly since I installed it Jan. 2. Around Feb. 10 I noticed that I could not wake it from sleep, I would have to cut power, wait a bit, and then boot. When it boots however, it will prompt that it is "resuming windows" like it had been sleeping. All windows updates are installed and I have Panda Antivirus running along with Spybot (both show no infections or errors). I looked in the action center for errors and got the following message:

I think this is the problem, there were about 12 other listings of the error.

I'm not sure if it's just that my bios needs to be updated or what, so I'm just looking for any suggestions on what to do. (My bios hasn't been updated yet since the install of 7)

Some Specs:

MOBO is an ASUS P5WDG2 WS Professional
Dual Core 2.6ghz
6 gigs of RAM
8800GTS (driver version is 8.17.11.9621) aka 196.21
Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (yeah, it's old)
[also I have a USB keyboard and a Bluetooth mouse that uses a USB dongle to connect]

Any help is appreciated!

I have done a Google search on this problem and have checked and re-checked all of my computer's sleep settings. All are set so as to enable mouse or keyboard wake up from sleep. I have checked my bios for any settings that would inhibit wake up from sleep.

Not only will my computer not wake up from sleep, but when I restart it after sleep (I must do a power off restart) it will not start properly. It prompts to resume Windows and then locks up. I can get out of this loop only by turning power off again. Other than this problem the computer works properly.

I am running Windows Vista. I connect to the internet via a cable modem supplied by my ISP which is wired directly to my single computer (a Vista desktop). This connection uses an Ethernet cable connected to the network adapter in the motherboard.

The problem that I'm having is that every time the computer wakes from sleep the internet is basically broken. It will not connect to the internet, and my status is "local only". I right click on my internet button in the notification area, and click "diagnose and repair", and it comes up with this:

"Cannot Communicate with Primary DNS Server (xxx.xx.x.xxx)"

It gives me the option to reset the network adapter. Which fixes the problem every time. I just can't understand why I have to reset my adapter every time I wake from sleep mode.

The option on the network adapter to turn on/off the energy saving mode doesn't help. Neither it does the option to turn off IPv6 on the connection properties. I have Vista Home Basic with all the updates installed to this day.

I would greatly appreciate your help! :)

I'll try to explain what's happened.
After upgrading to Win8.1, windows update try to update the Inter HD Graphics driver preinstalled into dell systems. This video driver is *CRUCIAL* for suspend/Hibernate/LidClose mode to operate properly.
This is the signature of the update Win8.1 suggest to apply:
[x] - Intel Corporation - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3 - Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
*** DO NOT APPLY THIS UPDATE *** !!!
If you do, this will conflict with AMD graphic adapter and result into nasty problems, including:
* Unable to restore from black screen if you close lid then reopen* Unable to properly hibernate* Unable to restore from LCD monitor switchoff for powersave
IF you see DELL site support, you can notice that the LATEST Intel HD video available is OLDER than the liveupdate installed (from microsoft).
Solution:
1. Remove/Uninstall all the AMD stuffs2. Reboot3. Remove the Intel HD Video driver and reinstall the older driver from DELL site4. Reboot (disconnect lan/network... *IMPORTANT*)5. Disable automatic LiveUpdate6. Reattach LAN/network7. Look for available update package, hide "Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1 xxxx"
You want now, after a final reboot, to say NO, NO, THANKS, to LiveUpdate of Intel Video Driver.

My computer running windows 8 and it cannot wake from sleep most of the time. When I built this computer last year, it can wake from sleep 9/10 times. However, now, almost every time I try to wake my computer from sleep, it crashes. This is what I notice when the computer is about to crash when waking from sleep: Power button is pressed, GPU fans and direct PSU connected fans spin up. Fans connected to Mobo do not spin up. Power button continues to blink even as if still asleep.

I strongly suspect it's the Mobo that is causing the sleep problems. The Mobo have been dropped and 6 out of the 10 sata ports do not work properly. I tried different bios versions and the latest version, and reset all values to default( no oc, xmp), and sleep problems still exist. The PSU and GPU have been tested with another setup with no problems. I tried another operating system and same sleep problems exist. Windows mem. diagnostics passed. Before I go out and buy a new mobo, I want to be 100% sure that my problems are caused by my current mobo.

- 4GB RAM
- Motherboard ASRock K10N78FullHD-hSLI R3.0

I have googled the symptoms so many times but cannot seem to find anything that works, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

A quick comparison I did today between nearly identical machines reveals that Windows 7 might take longer to sleep and wake (unless I've got a hardware issue).

A recently purchased refurbished HP computer running Vista with 8GB DDR3 RAM, an AMD Phenom II X4 910 processor, and a 1TB hard drive. Sleep mode activates fast -- about 6 seconds. The computer wakes in less than 5 seconds.

Today, we got essentially the same computer (same specs), but the newest version with Windows 7 preinstalled (long story about why we needed another one). Sleep mode on this unit takes more than three times as long -- 20 seconds, while waking takes just over 10 seconds. (Plus, both sleep and wake are "louder").

I'm very curious to know what might account for this. I expected basic Windows 7 functions to be faster, or at least equally quick. (By the way, I compared both with the same program running -- just Windows itself and Firefox.) A slower sleep time isn't necesssarily an issue, but just something I noticed and am curious about (as I tend to keep my PCs in sleep mode and don't shut them down).

Can someone help please?  I literally just got my Flex 3, with Windows 10 and it won't wake from sleep.  I have to hard power it off then restart it.  I have read forums and changed all my settings so that it neer goes to sleep, or I hybernate it, or just turn it off when I am done, but that isn't really a solution, it's just a bandaid.  I also read about updating the intel graphics drive, which I did and it fixed it for about a week but now it is back to the same thing and won't wake from sleep.  Can anyone help please?  I love my Flex but not waking from sleep is quite annoying as I don't want to just leave my computer off or on at all times.  I use it frequently and don't want to have to shut it down or just leave it on every single time I don't use it.

The only way my pc wakes up from sleep is by pressing the power button. The keyboard/mouse will not wake the pc up from sleep.

I have tried all the troubleshooting/Youtube tips/device manager settings and nothing will wake my system from sleep, other than the power button.

I also tried a different keyboard/mouse which plugged into a USB port and that would not wake my pc up either.

I also tried different power options settings and nothing worked.

Here is my hardware list: ASUS Z87 Deluxe/Quad motherboard with 16 gigs of RAM; Samsung 950 PRO M.2 SSD plugged into a PCIe slot (used ASUS M.2 X4 adaptor); cpu is the intel i7-4770K; video card is the AMD Radeon HD7700.

So I was wondering if there are any other tips which would get my keyboard or mouse to wake my pc up from sleep?

I don't want to wake it up from my smart phone.

thank you.

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum. Just bought a Windows 7 PC today. After setting it up, it looks as if Windows 7 takes longer to sleep and wake up than Vista. Here's how I compared the two:

1) We have a recently purchased HP running Vista, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1 TB hard drive, and an AMD Phenom II X4 910 processor. With just Windows and Firefox running, the computer takes 6 seconds to sleep. Wake-up takes just under 5 seconds.

2) Today, we purchased the latest version of the same HP computer -- so the same processor, RAM, etc., but running Windows 7 (by the way, it's a long story why we have two of the same in our house). With just Windows and Firefox running, the computer takes more than 3 times as long to sleep -- 20 seconds. Wake up takes just over 10 seconds.

Any ideas what might account for this? Certainly, the operating system is different, but I guess I was expecting basic Windows functions to be faster, or at least as fast. Would anyone with Windows 7 mind timing their sleep and wake-up modes? I'd be curious to know if your sleep/wake times are similar. Thanks.

Answer:I can't wake up windows 10 after sleep mode

Welcome to Windows Central.
There are mixed findings/opinions and suggestions on this matter since the issue could be a result of a mixture of different issues, such as hardware settings, drivers, software settings and configurations, etc. Some of the solutions worked for others while not working for others. Some of the ideas discussed are:
1. If you let your PC sleep using a hardware button, then that same hardware button should be able to wake the PC up.
2. If you've allowed your PC to wake up through USB in the BIOS, then put your PC to sleep and then unplugged any USB device attached to it while it was sleeping, then that PC won't wake up unless the hardware power button is pressed. This could also be applicable to Bluetooth devices, since Bluetooth may be temporarily disconnected when the device goes to sleep.
3. If your PC had a custom manufacturer-specific software (e.g. Samsung Control Center) that allows the laptop (what device are you using, by the way?) to wake up when the lid is opened, then this feature was completely removed in Windows 10 brought about by the uninstallation of that software. You would need to re-install that software, run it in compatibility mode for a previous version of Windows and then re-enable the said feature.
Should you wish to provide us with more details or ask further questions, please don't hesitate to create a Windows Central account and respond to this thread.

Hi folks. I'm having a little weird problem. This is a new system and you can see the specs in my sig. Everything is going well, and there are no problems whatsoever, except for a little weird one. Whenever the pc goes to sleep, it will not come back to life normally. I'll just have to restart it. This is what happens exactly:

Note: It doesn't happen if the PC just went to sleep, i.e. it will wake up if for example it went for sleep like a 5 seconds ago.

I come after a long day at work, and the PC will be sleeping. I'll move the mouse and the screen will come back up but only the mouse is responsive. I can only move the mouse cursor....That's all. If I press Ctrl Alt Del to enter task manager, it will bring me that page where I can choose task manager, log off, switch user...etc. And that will be it. I will not be able to do anything after that. The whole PC will freeze(after I click on task manager for example) and i will no longer be able to even move the mouse or hit Ctrl Alt Del combination to get into task manager.

I thought this might be because of my overclocking but it happened even at stock settings so it is not overclocking related. The only thing I can do is to fully disable sleep mode in both windows and BIOS(I think) to overcome this. This is just a workaround and not a solution.

Anybody have seen this before in windows 7 ? Suggestions? Comments?
Thanks.

Is there a fix for this?  I just ran the latest update as of 11/15/2015.   Prevoiusly on Windows 8.1, sleep worked fine. Now, all it does is try to boot, but shuts down and goes into a loop. So, the only way to get it back running again is to hold down the power button.  But what's the point of putting it in sleep mode if I have to do that each time?

Answer:2015 X1 Carbon with Windows 10 Pro won't wake up from sleep

Have you tried updating the drivers to the latest version? I had this problem Aswell but after I did drivers update it stopped and my x1 carbon could wake and sleep as normal again other wise it would sleep then wake after I open the lid but once I put in sleep again it would not wake up but after I did driver update it solved my problem

Hi All, After installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update my PC crashes on wake from sleep. It happens about 50% of the time on wakeup from sleep. Here are the symptoms: On wake from sleep my mouse cursor is only visable on my secondary monitor and the screen is blackThe windows working icon spins on blank/black secondary monitor a few times and then the computer automatically restartsI have found a workaround by putting the computer back to sleep before the crash/restart and then waking it up againI have updated my Video Card driver (which happens automatically in Windows 10 anyway)I have emailed AMD tech support and they said it was a known issue but they are no longer updating drivers for my systemDo you have any suggestions on how to fix this issue? I have seen multiple posts for different systems on the Microsoft Tech Support website here are some of them: Windows 10 Anniversary Update freezes at lock screen when waking from sleep http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/windows-10-anniversary-update-fre...  Windows 10 may freeze after installing the Anniversary Update - Updated 8-31-16 http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-performance/windows-10-may-freeze-after-... These solutions do not work. Thanks for your help!

I use a monitor, USB wireless mouse and a USB wired keyboard with my NB100.

My keyboard has a power button and it's set up to put the computer into sleep mode when pressed, which works fine. My problem is that the only way I can wake the computer is to press a key on the NB100's built-in keyboard, pressing anything on my USB keyboard does nothing.

I've gone into device manager and unchecked 'allow computer to turn off this device to save power' and also enabled everything in the BIOS but it still wont work.

I'd really like to get this sorted out as I have the NB100 tucked away out of sight and it's a bit of a pain to have to dig it out, open the lid and press the space bar every time I want to wake the computer :-(

Any ideas anyone?

Trixxy.

I have 2 harddrives in my Windows 7 RTM PC - a Seagate 500gb 7200.10 SATA (I think) as my c: drive and a Seagate 1.5tb 7200.11 SATA as my media drive d:. When waking from system S3 sleep I can immediately access my c drive and all its files. I cannot, however, access my media drive for 2-3 minutes after wake. After that time passes, response is snappy once again. I have no such issues when I reboot.

Sometimes on wake - I'd say once out of every 2 dozen, my media drive disappears completely.

I contacted Seagate technical support and they had me increase the "Delay for HDD (Secs)" from 0 to 10 or something. This had no impact on wake from sleep, only on fresh boot.

I've swapped countless power/SATA cables and have even swapped out my media drive for another and had the same problem.

I've disable hybrid sleep and hibernation all together.

Any ideas?

Have you always had your OC at 2.7 or just recently bumped it up? I've just gone through hell with my Shuttle once I OC'd from 2.5 to 2.7. Just a weird coincidence that my PSU started acting up and before that my 7200.11 Seagate started doing weird spin up spin down shenanigans. I have same chipset as you. Try 2.5 with HT @ x4. I know your situation's not the same and it sounds more like a software issue.. but just worth a try to narrow things down.

When waking my computer from sleep it takes 8 seconds for the screen to come on, then nothing responds for another 25 seconds. I fixed all the errors in event manager, updated the bios, installed all the newest drivers, changed BIOS settings. All to no avail.

All the components (except the MB and CPU) were recycled from my last motherboard which would be ready to go immediately from sleep. My previous build (which ran great) was also Windows 8.1 but the motherboard died. I have no password. The lock screen is disabled. Disabled suspend, and shut off hybrid sleep.

Why the lag? Is there any way to find out what's slowing me down?

Answer:Windows 8.1 New Build Slow Wake from Sleep

Solved - I examined the sata settings in the BIOS and found the SSD drives were not detecting. Or perhaps semi-detecting since the system could boot off of them. I moved them onto different ports and they started to detect. This also restored my proper wake from sleep speed.

Hi everyone,

When I wake up from sleep, Windows 8 wakes up and opens up everything I had open but it's as though it's mimicking waking up from hibernate. When I wake up the PC I see the BIOS screen, followed by a black screen, then opens up Windows with my applications. It's not instant like my other PC with W7, especially considering I have an SSD.

Furthermore, I went to my BIOS and put the ACPI suspend type to S1 from S3, which fixed this issue however my fans would always be running in sleep then.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

My PC hangs at startup. Nothing works, no mouse, no keyboard, everything just freezes! I turn on the PC in the morning and turn it off at night when i go to bed. It only freezes when I first turn it on in the morning. The only way to 'unfreeze' it is to do a hard reboot by pressing on the power button for awhile. The weird thing is, if i use to PC for a few hours then decide to reboot it, it works perfectly fine. Seems like it hangs after the PC has been off/idle for too long. This issue has been happening since October 2010. First it would hang maybe once a week (i ignored it thinking that its just a minor thing). Now i have the problem everyday!
Another problem I started having since a few days ago is that I can't wake my PC up from sleep after it has been sleeping for about 2hrs. I move the mouse and the fans will start running but there is no light at the power button to indicate that it is on and working. My screen is blank. I have to off the power switch and turn it back on. Then it will load everything for me like how i left it. Weird really.

The is no errors in my event logs. The only errors are from when I do the restart. There are no errors under system, nor under applications. (That's because I fixed all errors)
Hardware diagnostics did not find any hardware problem. That tool even did a memory test for me and found no errors.
Avast did not find any viruses.
I do a disk defrag and cleanup every week.
Windows is always updated.

After I put the pc into the sleep mode and then try to open with on and off switch, I can't get in windows 8.1. I get no video signal (image), but the pc stays on. I've been using since 2 days a new video card and I installed the drivers from installation cd. With my previous video card, I'd not suchlike problems.

Answer:Windows 8.1 wont wake up from sleep mode!!!

Maybe it's just really sleepy? *hears drum being hit in background*

sorry...erm..yeah was too tempting.

To my knowledge there is no real clear reason as to why this happens. You would think in so many OS systems with the wake/sleep function that they would had perfect it by now huh? You may get some people suggestion checking your drivers, energy/wattage issue/etc. I personally don't believe any of that though myself. If it can operate while you are on it just fine but you turn it off and it won't come back on it sounds more like an OS issue than anything else.

I used to have the same issue with an old old Acer Aspire 5720z. I never found a real solution to it either.I truly think the only "cheaphax" here would be for you to just disable sleep mode.

You could see if this helps you any but I highly doubt it will.

Hi everyone,  My manager seems to be having an issue with his ThinkPad S1 Yoga ever since he upgraded to Windows 10 back in July. He's now running the TH2 update that was released last month and he is still having issues with Sleeping and Waking the Notebook.  When shutting down the computer it will not fully shut down, resulting in the battery draining and the little red light on the lid will blink very quickly - The only fix is to hard reset the PC by holding the power button.   When the Notebook is on battery power and goes to sleep for being idle - it cannot be woken up and the only way to get the PC to work again is to hard reset again - meaning he loses all his work.  Is there a permanent fix in the pipeline or is this a case of restoring back to Windows 8.1?  ThanksChris

Answer:S1 Yoga: Windows 10 - Sleep/Wake Problems

Hi Chris-R

Can you please post your the full model number of the Yoga?

I have a TP Yoga 14 and it took me some time to stabilize the drivers. Maybe you should try to re-install the Lenovo Power related drivers to see if it can fix your problem.

I also like to have the drivers updated, I can share with your the following tips:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers.

I hope this helps you or gives you a hint.

Regards

The problem:

I shut the computer by putting it to the sleep mode. And then, I switch off the lamp on the table, or the bigger lights in the room by using the switch on the wall, or disconnect some device (which is not a part of the computer) from the wall.

... and the computer wakes up as I use the switches or disconnect something!

Somehow the computer is getting a signal from the power circuit to wake up.

How to prevent it?

System specs should be in the profile, ask for a more detailed overview.

Answer:Windows is in sleep, other devices in the room wake it up...

Hello johnmatrix. Welcome to the Forum.

It sounds like you have "dirty power" in your home. This is caused by either unreliable transmission from the electrical utility's supply lines, or improper wiring inside the walls of your home. Most likely a missing ground, an "open neutral", or arcing.

To address your computer, you should use a UPS (Universal Power Supply) connected between the wall and the computer.

But you should have an electrician check out the wiring in your home. Those symptoms are not normal and could be dangerous.

Hi: I assume the model PC you have is a HP 6005 Pro business desktop PC? If so, a couple of things you can try... 1. Install the amd chipset drivers for your PC.  1st driver on the list.  Restart the PC after installing. http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy4&os=Windows%2010%20-%2064 2. Disable fast startup.  See this link for how to do that. http://windowsable.com/how-to-enable-or-disable-fast-startup-in-windows-10/

After an upgrade to Windows 10, my HP Compaq 6005 Pro Small Form Factor will not wake up properly from sleep. After sleep, if I press a key on the keyboard or press the power button, I hear the fan and hard drive start up, and the monitor goes from completely off to on yet black (I can see a small difference, and the monitor reports that it receives a signal). But nothing happens, including if I press various key combinations such as those which would cause rebooting. Sometimes my mouse pointer is visible but usually not. If so, it will not move. If I hold down the power button, killing the power supply, and the press the power button again, the computer wakes up (not rebooting). As a history, this machine had a clean Windows 7 install, then a Windows 10 upgrade, then a Windows 10 clean install.  I have a vague memory that the computor originally went to sleep and woke up OK a few times, and now doesn't. However, my memory could be wrong. I have tried:* all Windows updates* using HP website for all relevant updates, including BIOS* display adapter (graphics card) update* Windows Power Usage Troubleshooter* turning hibernation off and on again in the command line (powercfg /h off and on) Any suggestions? With thanksKimock

Hi. I have a home built HTPC running Windows 8 with Windows Media Center. My sound card is a Silverstone EB01 USB DAC (i.e., it's an external USB device). When the computer wakes from sleep, there is no sound. I can fix this by either (a) unplugging and reconnecting the USB connector or (b) disabling then re-enabling the sound device.

This is driving me and my family crazy. What's worse, it worked perfectly fine under Windows 7.

There are no drivers for this device, it's pure plug'n'play. In case it's relevant, the Device Manager seems to recognise it as a Burr-Brown PCM2072E.

I would be extremely grateful if anyone could help me fix this one.

Answer:Windows 8 not seeing USB sound card after wake from sleep

If it is in device manager, check it's properties and power savings for it. In power settings plan could be some settings for it to.

Not sure where to post this ... hence new thread.
Has anyone found a magic keystroke combination for "Sleep" or is there anyway to create one? I know about Win+I then Power then Sleep.

Has anyone found an option to stop scheduled tasks or other triggers that "Wake" your computer from sleep? I find my computer running in the morning after putting it to sleep at the end of the previous evening! I have reviewed all 41 scheduled tasks created by Windows and installed applications and "apps" and found none that have the Wake Computer check box checked. What's annoying is the fact that once woken the computer does not go back to sleep again! I am using the supplied balanced Power plan. Any advice?

KJ

Answer:Windows 8 Sleep, Wake, Restart and Shutdown

I use this approach to the various "power" options. Check your wake on lan settings in Device Manager > for your various network adapters. Also, check wan on lan setting in BIOS or, I suppose, UEFI.

Hi, That's the question. I have my computer in my bedroom, so this is a real pain! The automatic maintenance is scheduled to 10am (I rescheduled it on purchase, when it annoyed the hell out of me at 3am). That one also still works and I'm fine with that. But it's just acquired without my permission a new wake up at 7am that I don't want - particularly when I wish to sleep in!! I recently installed iTunes, which coincided with the problem, but couldn't find anything on the program that suggested any type of maintenance time, nor does the powercfg (info I found when Googling to solve this problem) mention iTunes. I've tried Dr Google, which usually helps me solve problems such as this, but with no luck. See picture of power cfg. Can anyone help?
