Preferred Solution: How to solve application crash error?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently installed a file backup program called Drive Clone Pro v5 by Farstone onto my desktop pc. I am running Vista Ultimate x32 on a Dell XPS 600.

The problem that I am having is that when I boot the computer, prior to Vista starting up, the Farstone program appears to run first, and it indicates on the screen that it is "Verifying..." I've attempted to restart the pc numerous times, but without fail, once it reaches 30% during this verification process as indicated on the screen, the program hangs. I let it hang overnight (or rather, I basically passed out from exhaustion from trying to fix this problem) which tells me that it's not a matter of patience or anything like that. It's not going to get passed that point. My ultimate goal is to regain access to my files just as if I had never installed Drive Clone Pro in the first place. I should also note that I'm trying to avoid doing a system restore because there have been other program alterations/additions/deletions which were made in close proximity to the installation of DriveClone Pro a few days ago and since that time. Unfortunately, I didn't record those changes and wouldn't remember those if I were to do a system restore, and for an obsessive compulsive like myself, I simply cannot cope with that. I should point out that this problem I am seeking assistance with was discovered upon the first reboot of my pc since the installation of Drive Clone Pro.

Considering its this Drive CLone software thats giving issues, boot into Safe Mode & uninstall it. If that fails (which it shouldn't) then go for System Restore. Its much better than doing a format & clean install lol.

So Ive been running windows 7 since it released. it was going fine till recently it started blue screening and crashing with BCC code 116 . i updated drivers. fresh installed and everything I could think of, drivers etc . The crashes can happen quickly or sometimes it even lasts an hour or more before the next one but still quite frequently. I even dismantled and dusted the machine.I managed t get that screen cap before it crashed shortly after freezing so didn't really give a lot of time to write it all down. in the event manager it shows as a Bug check.[this is all a day after a clean wipe]

I'm currently running Win 10 on an Asus P6TD Deluxe with i7 920, 12gb (6 x 2gb) of corsair CMX6GX3M3A 1600 C9 memory and a 250gb SSD for the OS. I have the processor over clocked to about 3.6ghz

I used to primary for photo editing and am finding Adobe Lightroom on the sluggish side but also have problems with constant memory management crashes when exporting photos. These have happened for a long time, even when I was running Win 7. Since then a complete Win 10 rebuild didn't solve it so I'm assuming it's a hardware issue. I've tried various mem tests etc which all report no probs. Wanting to solve both the general speed and crashing issue I'm thinking of giving in and going for a significant upgrade.

I'm looking at a Asus prime Z270A board, with 16gb (2 x 8) of DDR4 3466 memory, and an i7 7700K. I may up the SSD to 500gb at the same time. I intend to keep the same case, power supply (550w) and graphics card (GTX760).

For my main task of editing photos, exporting them from lightroom etc, can anyone comment on how much faster this manchine is likely to be. It's obviously going to be a cost outlay but if I solve the crashing and get a performance boot then it will be worth it. If there's not noticeable performance change then I might be better just gambling on trying some new memory in the current system.

Any thoughts would be really helpful. Cheers

Hello there!

On my freshly installed Windows 7 notebook I am still having random Starcraft 2 crashes (maybe once a week or two). As part of the attempt to figure out what is causing this I have run the Windows built-in Driver Verifier (Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable)

I am not even able to boot into Windows itself, after consecutive BSODs and accompanying reboots. After disabling Driver Verifier in safe mode I am able to attach the results extracted from the SF Diagnostic Tool.

Some other information that may be applicable to my situation.
- Windows Memory Diagnostic passes no problems.
- Windows is not tweaked in any way - msconfig, ccleaner, services, etc.
- CPU, GPU temps are normal/acceptable - under SC2 GPU is 71C, CPU 86C.
- However, the Intel HM65 chip is 90C under load, and 75C while surfing/watching video. There is no heatsink on this chip.
- Short tests by Seagate SeaTools all pass (have not run the long tests).
- Running Error Scan in HD Tune also didn't show any errors.
- According to SMART I do have End-to-End Errors (value is 86), from what I've read this may or may not mean anything. Could these errors register due to the HD not having optimal physical connection? I noticed overnight the computer was acting sluggish with low IO performance, which turned out to be a physical connection issue - just had the slide the HD back in a bit.

TIA for any help!

I have been trying to fix a crash problem with Minecraft and got a few random BSOD when uninstalling\reinstalling Java and Drivers. My wife says that the computer was already unexpectedly shutting down before this.

I am including the Minecraft Crash logs along with the SF grabs. Its the easiest to reproduce. will include link to Minecraft and/or FTB forums once I create one. Gonna keep looking through other posts to find something else I may have missed.

Answer:BSOD Randomly and when trying to solve Minecraft Java Crash

Memtest86 will test your RAM

   Information

Run Memtest86 for at least 8 passes so we get enough information to confirm that your RAM isn't failing

Run a Disk Check to scan for errors

   Note

Afterwards go into an Elevated Command Prompt (Run as administrator) and type in sfc /scannow
If it finds errors reboot and run the scan two more times

Run SeaTools to see if your HDD or SSD is failing

Post back the results.

application crashes how do i fi. on occasion I get these Application crashes where IE 8 has to close which results in all open IE 8 having to close.

Answer:application crash/ Or application hangs using IE 8

I wanted to add that it is occuring using win 7 with IE 8 installed. What happens it happens intermittently where I will be online. Then with any number of IE pages open it suddenly shows an Application crash message. Where all open IE 8 has to be closed at once simultaneously. Sometimes I can go into task manager processes and find which close that so all dont have to close. Usually though all end up having to close.

That error seems to indicate a hard drive problem, which is why it was suggested to run chkdsk /r.

Hello SeweDawg, welcome to the forum.

Run a full updated scan of your antiVirus. Also run a full updated Malwarebytes (Free Version).

Download Malwarebytes (Free Version)

Reboot. Seems like virus/ malware attack. Explorer crashes such as this are often related to ad/spyware, but not
limited to such. Post your result.

Thanks.

Even though this isn't BSODs you're experiencing, still provide us a BSOD Report. Also, do an overnight run of Memtest.

Sorry if this isn't the right thread, I'm new but really struggling with this error/crash that happens on my laptop often! It frequently happens when I play a game, the game will close automatically and I will be presented with an I/O error message? It closes everything and just makes my computer basically unusable until I manually power it down (I can't access start menu or anything) if anyone could give me an insight on how to fix this I would be so grateful! Thanks in advance!

Answer:Application/everything crash

Instead of trying every remedy in the medicine cabinet, I would suggest an in-place upgrade install ( also know as repair install).

Assuming your Windows 10 is activated...............................
Use one of the following links to download the Windows 10 10586 iso file :
Media Creation Tool ( MCT )
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

Tech Bench
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/techbench

I'll use MCT as an example :
Download the MCT > run the Tool > select Create installation media for another PC
That will start downloading the iso file to your computer.
After that, right click at the iso file > click Mount > click Setup.exe.
Installation will begin.
You have the choice of keeping your settings, files and apps or keeping nothing.
No product key is required.
Activation is automatic.

Okay, please forgive me as I have no idea where to post the issues that I am experiencing. Yes, I did check out previous posts that were similar in nature.

I was on my computer this morning. I shut down the computer and then this evening when I turn the computer on I get the following message:

Application Error The application failed to initialize properly. (0xc00000006). Click ok to terminate the application

I click okay I get a blank desktop - so I cannot run system restore. I have tried starting the computer in safe mode but I get the same message. I do not have any discs to re-install anything because when I bought my laptop I was told that all that stuff is built in. I have a compaq presario, windows xp. I am currently using my husbands laptop to try and figure out what to do. Can someone please help me?

I was brought a machine the other day from a friend who got it from a house she was cleaning...so of course there is no telling why they left it behind as it is souped up with all the fans, lights, and amd EP-8KHA motherboard with the counter on it...which when I first loaded it..it took forever the boot screens came up then the wonderful....Services.exe - Application Error. I went through the prompts of ending it...then 20 mins or so later windows finely loaded but the start menu was gone....at first the whole desktop was just the blue screen but my patients in letting it load I finely had icons but still no start menu...I found that someone had removed nortan...so there is no anti-virus on it....well I tried to load AVG on a CD that I burned off my PC and load it...along with Spy-bot, ad-aware SE, and a few other programs to see if I could get some of the tried but true to repair any virus, malware and such off. Well to no avail did any of the programs load...so I had noticed that when I tried going into user accounts to see if this account had admin. privileges the user accounts never loaded. Answer:Services.exe - Application Error. The Application Failed To Initialize (0xc0000005).

Well...it seems to me (I may be misreading) but that system belonged to a unnamed 3d party, which had the operating license.

If I had found such system, the first thing I would have done is wipe it clean (because I don't like using someone else's data which they've decided to trash) and to give myself a good start at seeing if the system worked properly.

Then I would have done a clean install.

That's the only way that I know how to go from a series of unknowns...to a known good, working system.

Worst case scenario: The system is highly infected.

Best case scenario: The system has O/S or malware problems or a combination thereof.

Hi There

I have been given a friends computer to fix. The way he described it, it sounded like it was full of Malware etc, however I haven't been able to start it up as I get the following message appearing when I power it up.

userinit.exe - Application Error The Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click ok...

This message appears twice, I then get the wallpaper of the computer up, but nothing else, no icons or task bar. I have tried a wee trip to safe mode but don't get anywhere from that either, just the same message.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Cheers

Colin

A user is getting a popup warning upon login (see event log entry below).

This started last friday and another Tech ran chkdsk and the user was able to print a few times before they left at end of day, not able to print today. I ran the chkdsk but no luck.

The print spooler service will not start, when forced the popup shows.

I have removed and replaced spoolsv.exe with no luck.

Sometimes I either get kernelbase.dll crash or ntdll.dll crash. (APPCRASH)

Sometimes suddenly explorer.exe crash, followed by ETDCtrl.exe (Touchpad process).

Does download and replacing kernelbase.dll solve the problem?
What kind of application are usually having conflict with them?
Thank you

Answer:How does kernelbase.dll crash an application?

Darryl, here's my usual disclaimer: I'm not an expert at anything.

As I understand things (and I could be completely off the mark on this), kernelbase.dll is kinda like a second generation of kernel32.dll. Kernel32.dll was originally written for 32-bit operating systems while kernelbase.dll is for primarily 64-bit systems. Rather than re-write the entire kernel code, kernel32.dll and kernelbase.dll are supposed to work work together.

They are the main files (for lack of a better description) that contain the core processes or heart of the operating system. At startup, they load into memory and regulate things like user runs, programs, memory management, input and output streams, task managment, and disk management. They contain the operating system's fundamental processes. They can also be accessed by more than one program at a time which is why it's usually difficult to narrow down why an error occurs or which program or application is at fault.

Sometimes the kernels become damaged or corrupted. A virus, failure to shut down the computer properly, a poorly written program, etc can be the cause. Because they are system files, the can sometimes be repaired by running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt. And if that doesn't work a Repair Install of the operating system will usually fix the problem. But in extreme cases (like a major virus infection) only a clean install will work (that means replacing everything on the hard drive - operating syste... Read more

On a brand new HP 6540b (WD685EA#BED) with 2GB RAM a user is getting a BSOD when printing (to any printer even PDF...they all work fine from other applications) from one of our applications.

OS is Win 7 Pro x86. Other users also on Win 7 x86/x64 have no problems printing from that same application.

I'm getting win32k.sys as the possible cause. I'm attaching two minidumps.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

PS: I did a couple passes with memtest and memory seems to be just fine.

This has been a major irritation that the only fix I have come up with is to reinstall windows and this program. I start my application (VisualAnalysis 6.0 www.iesweb.com) that has worked just fine for quite a while, but now doesn't start. I can see in process explorer that the program tries to start but simply shuts down. No error messages or sounds of any kind to give a clue. I cannot even try to reinstall the program because the installer has the same issue. It seems to me that it is not application specific because the program has worked but it only seems to do it with this one.

This is the only app that I can tell it is happening to and I cannot seem to remember doing anything to the system (i.e. installing, etc...) that would render it unusable. Could this be a virus causing the problem or McAfee somehow blocking it? McAfee doesn't find any problems. Also, I did try to do a system restore to set the system back to a date that I know things worked, but it didn't help any.

HELP! I really need to use the program.

Answer:Application crash upon starting

Try looking in the event viewer, and see if any logs are being made when you try opening the program.

Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer

I would also check to be sure that your Antivirus/Firewall is not blocking the application from running.

Hi,
We have a window application (using MFC in a shared DLL and build in Visual Studio 6) which run fine on Window XP but it crashs on Window 7 OP with following exception "unhandled exception in *.exe(user32.dll): 0xC0000005: Access Violation.". The Exception happens on release build and debug build. Could anyone help us how to find the problem.
Thanks.

Answer:Application crash on Window 7

Does the program work OK if you run it in a Windows XP compatibility mode? If you haven't tried that, give that a try. Most programs that run in XP will run in Native Win 7, but there are some exceptions and for those you need to run in a Compatibility mode.

Some also require running as Administrator (even though your log on has Adminstrator rights). To do this RIGHT click on the icon for the program and then LEFT click Run as Administrator.

That exception code is a memory exception. Usually caused by a driver. We really need the dmp file to be sure

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

Wondering if any Windows 7 experts know if this is normal behavior.

After a game preinstalled by Dell (Jeopardy by Wild Tangent) crashed, I rebooted the PC. Upon startup, the Windows 7 Home Premium PC ran through three diagnostic tests, something like an index verification and two other tests.

Is this normal after an application crash, or is this a sign something might be amiss?

Thanks!

Answer:Diagnostics after application crash

We'd need the specifics on what the tests were - but I haven't seen this behavior before. I'd suspect that they were Dell diagnostics.

You can check your Start menu for any Dell diagnostic programs.

I am using WIndows 7 X64 and when closing ie8, I received an error

I followed the intructions to get a .dmp file to send u

You can configure Windows to create user-mode dumps. Create a System Restore Point first.

If you copy and paste the following in Notepad and save as a .reg file, then right-click the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, a .dmp file at the time iexplore.exe crashes should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\iexplore.exe]
"DumpFolder"=hex(2):43,00,3a,00,5c,00,43,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,44,00,75,\
00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00

and was able to take a .dmp file to send to u

Any help would be appreciated

Nearly every time a window or tab is closed in Internet Explorer 8, an error message appears, "Internet Explorer has stopped working" Checking online for a solution to the problem yields no result. Closing the program appears to only complete the close for the tab or window, but does not terminate all IE processes. Often there are several of these windows stacked which must be individually closed.Problem Details:Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: iexplore.exe Application Version: 8.0.7601.17514 Application Timestamp: 4ce79912 Fault Module Name: IEShims.dll Fault Module Version: 8.0.7601.17514 Fault Module Timestamp: 4ce7b84d Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00008c69 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 0a9e Additional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 Additional Information 3: 0a9e Additional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789Read our privacy statement online: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?lin...If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline: C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txtI understand this has to do with the Compatibility View, but turning that off does not eliminate the problem. Answer:Application Crash IE 8, ieshims.dll

Try scanning with Malwarebytes, you might have an infection that slipped by your antivirus program.Reset IE8 OR:Upgrade to IE9. The upgrade should fix any problems.Try FireFox or another browser to see if you like them (my favorite is Firefox), if you do and it/they work better, and it is not an infection, then you can ignore it.You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Hi.
Not sure if this goes here, but I was looking for some help.

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate x64.

When I start up an application, Saitek Profile Editor (Which for a joystick/throttle I purchased), seemingly at random times I get a ProfileEditor has stopped working error. I have updated my motherboard and graphic card drivers, and I have microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 installed...I haven't been able to find any useful info online about this problem.

The problem details are as fallows:

Description:

Answer:mscorwks.dll causes application crash...

have you updated your saitkec???

this kind of error is access violation error in which the said program (saitkec) tries to access parts of the memory not allowed to it....

x64 is very picky about program memory access

try to look for the lasest drivers here...

cmd.exe application error - application was unable to start correctly (0x0000142). Click ok to close the application

Anyone know why it happened?

I got this error when I tried to restart to install an update. However, in windows update, it showed I had nothing to update. There was the little yellow shield by the shut down button to indicate it was installing an update when I would shutdown.

I rebooted fine, and CMD works fine. Is it possible windows thought it had to install something, and the installer had already installed the update (I went onto windows update earlier myself to install the windows and silverlight updates) and it bugged because maybe it had to use cmd to execute the update or something?

Answer:cmd.exe application error - application was unable to start correctly

It seems to be happening again, but only when I shutdown when explorer is open. I tried and tested his multiple times. It has only happened after the new silverlight update and kb 30247777 (sorry if the number is wrong) update.

What is causing this?

Hi All,

I recently purchased a new laptop and I have had this error occur almost since the start.

Basically, when I switch on my laptop, both bttray.exe and GrooveMonitor display the exact same error(bar the application name in the title) - I have also tried to install AVG Free which comes up with the same error when trying to start.

The error is:

BTTray.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc150004). Click OK to terminate the application.

I am running Microsoft? Windows Vista? Ultimate 6.0.6001.1.1252.44.1033.18.3066.1940

I haven't tried anything to correct this as I wouldn't know where to start.
Any help anyone can provide would be highly appreciated,

Thank you in advance,

Joe

I've had an ongoing problem with application errors that say the following:

<app name.exe> - Application Error
The instruction at "0x036...." referenced memory at "0x00000ba0". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

I've run HJT before and others couldn't find anything. I've significantly cleaned up my PC, currently uninstalled about 4-5 different spyware/adware programs (at the instruction of a MS tech support person who's trying to help me integrate SP2 back into my c:/ with no luck ). But, someone on the XP forum suggested I run HJT again and copy the log so here it is. If anyone has any other ideas I'm open to listening. I get this error message when exiting out of almost every application or browser I have. Can't seem to figure this one out. Thanks!

Go to Start->Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit OK. Let it scan. If it finds any files missing/corrupted, it may ask for the Windows CD.

Download LSPFix http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/LSPFix.exe and run it. Check the box that says 'I know what I'm doing'. Click on inetcntrl.dll on the left window and then click on the arrow pointing to the right. Click Finish and follow the prompts.

I'm getting consistent/regular application errors involving "svchost.exe_SysMain" failures. A typical event message looks like the following:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Faulting application svchost.exe_SysMain, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x47919291, faulting module sysmain.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791adbd, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0000000000027bc4, process id 0x9b0, application start time 0x01c9c9b411570516.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is followed (in the event log) by a cascade of errors from the "Service Control Manager Eventlog Provider" such as the following:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The ReadyBoost service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The cascade of service/driver errors occurs within 3 to 6 seconds of the initial svchost.exe_SysMain failure and hits a dozen or so other services including but not limited to ...

Answer:Application Error -- Faulting application svchost.exe_SysMain

SYSMAIN is Superfetch.

I see exception code = 0xc0000005. What anti-virus product(s) do you have installed? If "Internet Security" package w/ personal firewall like NIS, KIS, Mcafee, etc... - IT is the likely cause and s/b removed.

OK, this is admittedly a strange one...

I have used an old (probably a 16-bit) application as my time synchronizer this I've used for quite some time. Its name is TimeRC, and is a great synchronizer as it tracks moon phases along with the time (from selectable, multiple potential time servers). After a fatal software crash a couple of weeks ago, I'm in the process of recovery. Attempts to manually launch the EXE, result in a launch-time error stating that the ap is not compatible with my Windows 7 Pro (SP1). Note that I'm running on the same level of Windows that I was using prior to the crash/re-install. I have inhibited compatibility checking (Group Policy adjustment) only to incur the Win32 error.

I've been through the litany of utilities (registry) to correct this situation, and I KNOW that this ap runs just fine on Windows 7 (from pre-crash days). I am at my wits end trying to avoid this situation. I suspect that there is a registry setting difference (now versus pre-crash) about which I'm ignorant, so I'm open to any, and all suggestions.

To use an alternative time synchronizer is not an option...I'm anal about how my system looks, feels, and performs!! I've even tried running in XP mode (virtual machine) to no palatable result. Note that I don't have access to the program's source code, otherwise I could recompile!

There's got to be something that I'm missing.

Color me frustrated,
Randy Reist (Lairbear)

Answer:Avoiding '<application name> is not a valid Win32 application' error.

Hello and Welcome!

The dump files are missing from the list. If you use CCleaner or any such software it will delete the files so once you get crash go to C:\Windows\Minidump and collect the files and attach it here.

Regarding the crashes I think the problem is multiple Virus protection programs. You have Zone Alarm, Panda Cloud and Spyware Search&Destroy. The combination of multiple antivirus and firewall are well known for such crashes.

I would recommend to remove all of them (For time being) and just install Microsoft Security Essentials and see if it crashes. If not then install either Panda or Zone Alarm (not both). IMO Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Firewall is more than enough. Zone Alarm is notorious for BSOD.

Run SFC/ SCANNOW to make sure all the system files are intact.

Hope this helps!

I have a reoccurring problem.
I get the warning message some thing like : The instruction at "0xZe676e69" referenced memory at "0x2e676e69"
(different reference number every time)
The memory could not read , click ok to terminate
, click cancel to debug

If I click cancel to debug 9 times out of ten the application crashes.

I have checked my physical memory installed with Mem Test 86 twice and other tests and it reports working fine.

I can't see any conflicts with software. It has been occurring for some time.

What to do?

Any ideas??

Answer:The Memory Could Not Read, Then Application Crash

Hi harryaon, and welcome to BleepingComputer.

It would help if you could provide us with the exact error. You and also look in the Event Viewer to see what errors are appearing there at those times. If you right click on the error code in the Event column and then Properties a definition of the error will be provided. Please post these and the error codes.

How much free space do you have on your hdd?

I would also help to know what your system specs are.

Hello!
Could you please help me?
Every day I get this blue screen and sometimes other errors, and messages like "Internet explorer has stopped working" or "google chrome has stopped working" or any other application.
Additional information:
Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit,
I have this new PC, recently bought, we assembled it at home and I wanted to test the new Windows 7. The next day after installation the errors started, I reinstalled the OS, but I get the same errors.
Could you please help me?
Is it a hardware or a software problem?
What can I do to fix it?

I have'nt got any solution till now either on the internet or from Microsoft aswell. Is there any Hardcore Techie here who can provide a solution.

Answer:Windows VISTA - Application Crash

If your H drive is a hard drive, I'd suggest running a chkdsk /r on it. Can also be done by: right clicking the drive in Computer > Properties > Tools tab > under Error Checking pick Check Now, and check both boxes. WIll probably say it will be done on next reboot, so go ahead and reboot and let it runs its thing. May take a while.

Im running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit on a home built computer. The problem i am having has happened about twice before but was just resolved by a simple system restore.

What happens is i will just be using the computer normally and Application Layer Gateway stops working and needs to close and then even though the internet is shown as connected when i open a browser, firefox or IE the page is just completly blank.

Its not that the internet is disconnected or the page has timed out its just blank as though somethings not getting through. I tried changing my firewall settings and i still have the problem. I have tried looking for support but i really dont know what to do other than restore the operating system so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

has no-one else seen or heard of this problem or am i not wording it very well?

I have looked for a solution to this problem on the internet for about 2 months already, and i have tried many things that have improved my PC performance but not fixed it . Very often my PC will slow down while i am running a program and my CPU will go up to 100% for about half a min or until i force shutdown the application. i have re-installed windows 7 64-bit about 4 times thinking its a virus but the problems continues. i was hoping that someone can walk me threw the steps to fix this problem or at least find out what it is. i know its not my hardware because my computer can run crysis on all high quality.....thats if its working properly at the time. here are my system specs and if you need further information about my PC feel free to ask or tell me how to reveal them to paste here.

I will appreciate any help and will check back on this post very soon and often. i also scanned my pc with avast if this helps.

Hi all

I have had Vista for over two years now and two things that are driving me to despair are: i) the 'Wheel of Death' and ii) Not Responding

The Wheel of Death, as I call it, is infuriating be beyond distraction. You know what I mean, that perishing orbiting blue wheel. It comes on for no apparent reason and just locks up the system - can anyone tell me what the use is of this annoying little ....? Worse than the old egg timer.

"Application" Not Responding. The screen just mists up and often works in conjunction with i) above. Once again, no reason is given. I know with AOL a message pops up to let me know that there is a fault and will let me know what the error is and what the solution is to cure it, but never, ever has! Sometimes my whole system locks up and have to reboot..

If a reason is given, I might be able to forgive Vista. I have tried just about everything to cure it - increasing RAM. defrag, disk clean up. Clearing Temp files and Temp Internet files, shutting down other programs running in the background. I think I have tried just about everything, but the one thing I haven't discovered and tried yet, must be the one thing someone else knows about and hasn't passed on to me yet.

Bill Gates! Try this computer of mine for a while and it'll soon wipe the smile off your face, especially when you are in the middle of something important or complicated, and the Wheel of Death and a Wipeout happens and you have to start all over again.

Hey guys! I'm new here so i apologize in advance if i haven't supplied the required info. Now onto my problem -

My issue is not actually a BSOD but sporadic CTDs in many applications with the BEX message and the error code 0xc0000005. I've tried quite a few different things but none seem to work:
Ran memtest86 for a couple hours with 2 successful passes
Reinstalled my applications
Updated my graphics and sound card drivers
Updated directx and C++ redistributable
CCleaner to clean registry
Defragged my C drive
Chkdsk + sfc /scannow (no errors)
Reset CPU and GPU back to stock settings
Created a new user profile but applications still crashed
Exceptions added for crashing games in firewall and AV
Added game .exes to DEP exception list
Updated my BIOS
Ran applications in clean boot
Full scanned system with AVAST
Short overview of my specs:
msi gtx 970
intel i5 2500k
650W antec PSU
ASUS P8Z68V-Le Mobo
Coolermaster Hyper 212EVO CPU cooler
2 x 4gb DDR3 Kingston HyperX RAM
1TB 7200RPM 32MB Seagate Barracuda HDD
AVAST antivirus + Comodo Firewall
I attempted to analyze the minidump .dmp file gathered when one of my games (Maplestory) crashed but since i'm not very good at debugging, i can't seem to find the root of the exception.

So, i'm hoping that the experienced people here can take a look at the minidump linked below and locate the faulting module (i presume? or maybe its a hardware issue i overlooked).
I appreciate all the help i can get!! Thanks!

I've read the wonderful FAQ that was posted in an earlier thread. But I don't see a definitive answer to my problem and it's most likely there's a step I'm missing.

I've been playing SIMS 2 for a long time. I have Univeristy, Pets and Seasons Expansions. I use the SEASONS disc to run the game.

Today it suddenly crashed. If I load the disc into the CDROM, it does not whir and make noises like it used to. What suddenly comes up after a black screen is the screen that says SIMS 2 SEASONS (where the game loads - the splash screen I think it's called) and then it freezes. However it totally bypasses the little video clips that come up before it. The EA GAMES logo with the simlish speaker that says what sounds like "Izoo zoo" then it launches into the video clip followed by the splash screen. The only way to get the splash screen to go away is to Ctrl Alt Delete and then end task through the task manager. At which point a box comes up that says "THIS APPLICATION HAS CRASHED. IT WILL NOW TERMINATE". Now I have not tried to uninstall and reinstall it yet because I am presuming I will have to uninstall and reinstall the main game plus all the expansion packs again. Before I go through that, I was wondering if there were any other suggestions.

my computer meets all the requirements to run the game - we just put in a NVIDIA 8500 graphics card and upgraded to roughly 3 gigs. It has run fine since I bought the computer in December... Read more

Hi all,

I'm developing a large application using Visual Studio 2008 using VB.NET,

with .NET Frameworks 2.0 .
The application also make extensive usage of the DevExpress controls suit.

Every now and then we get an application crash. Always with the same details

Windows reports Cabinet.Dll as the source of the crash.

This happens on Windows 7 only (in windows XP the application runs OK).
The crash occurs at different locations in the applications and we can't reproduce it.
At times it will repeat itself very often at a short period of time, and after that it won't happen for a while.

I used the adplus debugger to monitor a crash and get a dump by using the following command:

I'm running Win 7 Pre, 64bit, on an H77 mobo, i5 cpu, & Nvidia graphics. All of my drivers were up-to-date and the OS was up-to-date prior to installing the patch Tuesday updates for May 2016. The updates installed fine and my PC is working well except
for the following problem. The application Bittorent (version 7.9.5.) crashes when it's opened with a message like "bittorent cannot run, a crash dump has been created" and gives me the option to close program or relaunch.

I had the exact same problem on my laptop running Win 10 Pro with utorent.
Thus, I think that something in the May updates casued bittorent/utorent not to run.  I was able to deal with this by installing the most recent version of bittorent (7.9.7) which runs fine.
Has anyone else had this problem and more importantly, does anyone know what caused this? I suspect it was caused by an update dealing with drivers.

When I start up my comp, everything is fine until I reach the XP welcome screen. At this point the 'userinit.exe - user application error' message box appears twice. after clicking ok, windows continues to load but when it gets to the desktop nothing shows up. I can make desktop show up by going into WTM and going to file>new task(run)..., but as soon it loads i get multiple message boxes of 'rundll32.exe - application error'. I get similar messages when I try to run notepad, system restore, and when I double click on the icon to safely remove hardware.

I don't want to reformat my comp again, I've tried running sfc /scannow and its done nothing, tried reinstalling XP but for some reason its missing a file. Any help would be appreciated.

In looking at my error logs, there have been occasional errors with Word. But just recently, they have become quite a pattern. I'm not a techie and don't know if this error entry tells us details to center in on exactly what the problem is. But I am copying it below for your perusal. I am running Home Vista & Office Home & Student 2007. After I installed an update to my HP OfficeJet All-in-One I started getting frequent messages that Word had failed & Microsoft was searching for solutions to the problem. It always repairs & Word returns for continued use, but something is clearly wrong. I saw a discussion on Bleeping Computer that lead me to think that Office & my HP printer might be conflicting. But so far as I am aware the updates for both the Office & HP are the newest versions. I think Microsoft is completely updated. Can you help me correct whatever this is all about ? I am very unclear about what is happening & don't know what to do.
Thanks, dreamcatcherco

Answer:Application Error--faulting Application Winword.exe

Microsoft Word crashed because of this module: hpz3r4x6.dllThe references that I was able to find for this file suggest that its:1) an OEM driver file, and2) a Unified UI/Render plug-inWhich doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot to me, but I've got a guess or two about.Since the filename starts with HP and you've recently installed an HP OfficeJet...did you install it from the drivers on the disk, or did you download the drivers from HP? If you installed from the disk, did the disk (or the setup program) specify that the drivers were compatible with Windows Vista? Often printers will be marked with a "Works with Windows Vista" sticker - but won't have the Vista drivers on the installation CD/DVD.I would suggest uninstalling the drivers and software for the HP printer, then reboot and test to see if the error has been corrected. If it has, then try getting the Vista drivers from this link: http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/suppor...Display=driversand see if that helps.

HELP!!  I hope somebody can help me with this.  I have posted this on Windowsforum.org and CNET Forums and have not had any luck.I get the following error several times a day. Normally when opening a folder or launching an application from the Quick Lauch Toolbar or double-clicking on an item in a folder to open it. Application popup: Explorer.EXE - Application Error : The instruction at "0x0145b190" referenced memory at "0x0145b190". The memory could not be "read".The options are OK and DEBUG.  When I click on DEBUG it doesn't do anything and after clicking OK, explorer shuts down and restarts. The following text is from Event Viewer and when I click on the link it is very generic info that says the driver needs to be reinstalled.   I don't know how to reinstall Explorer.exe if that is the right thing to do.=====================================================================Event Type: InformationEvent Source: Application PopupEvent Category: NoneEvent ID: 26Date: 5/8/2007Time: 11:34:54 PMUser: N/AComputer: MARK-B6B03827FFDescription:Application popup: Explorer.EXE - Application Error : The instruction at "0x0145b190" referenced memory at "0x0145b190". What did the other forums already advise you to do?If you have your windows xp cd, restart your computer and boot from the cd. After a few prompts, you'll want to choose to repair windows. There are two different repair options, one is a manual repair and the other is automatic. If you get the wrong one, start over.Back up your data before you do this, just in case something goes wrong. (probably won't go wrong)

Answer:How do I solve error code0X80072EFF?

Hi - I don't know what device or OS you are using (always better to add that info in your question).
HOWEVER - when I searched this in Bing, it looks like you might have a pretty bad virus. This link is where I found the information and has a few options for you:Error Code: 0X80072EFF - Microsoft Community
Good luck!
