Preferred Solution: Windows 7 64 bits keep go in BSOD, help plz.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

It is almost impossible to spot trends from a single DMP file so if you have more than one please upload them. If you only have one please wait until the computer crashes again then upload both.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

Answer:BSOD - WINDOWS 7, 64 bits

This points (most likely) to your hard drive.
Try these free tests first:

Quote:

CHKDSK /R /F:
Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as adminstrator) Command Prompt. Please do this for each hard drive on your system.
When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter. Then reboot and let the test run. It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors. See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.

Elevated Command Prompt:
Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)
At the top of the Search Box, right click on Cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"

CHKDSK LogFile:
Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.
Double click on the Source column header.
Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (wininit for Win7) (winlogon for XP).
Copy/paste the results into your next post.

HI everyone,

I wanted to see if you can help me with a problem that I have with my computer. First the specs of my computer:

core i5, intel dh55hc motherboard
2 modules of 4gb ram, corsair model CMX4GX3M1A1333C9
windows 7 ultimate 64 bits

I'm getting some bsod in random times, although now I see that there is a pattern... for example:

after a day of full working let's say 14-16 hours, then I start to close all the windows and when I'm going to shutdown then appears a bsod... so, it seems that it's in that point when I'm going to shut down...

I run a memtest with many hours let's say 12 hours and nothing so I'm not sure if it's a memory related problem...

Here is the latest minidump file, I hope you can help me

Welcome.

Take memtest. Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes.
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Quote:
The goal is to test all the RAM sticks and all the motherboard slots.

Check your motherboard manual to ensure the RAM sticks are in the recommended motherboard slots. Some motherboards have very specific slots required for the number of RAM sticks installed.

If you get errors, stop the test and continue with the next step.

1. Remove all but one stick of RAM from your computer (this will be RAM stick #1), and run Memtest86 again, for 7 passes.*Be sure to note the RAM stick, use a piece of tape with a number, and note the motherboard slot.
If this stick passes the test then go to step #3.

2. If RAM stick #1 has errors, repeat the test with RAM stick #2 in the same motherboard slot.*If RAM stick #2 passes, this indicates that RAM stick #1 may be bad. If you want to be absolutely sure, re-test RAM stick #1 in another known good slot.
*If RAM stick #2 has errors, this indicates another possible bad RAM stick, a possible motherboard slot failure or inadequate settings.
3. Test the next stick of RAM (stick #2) in the next motherboard slot.*If this RAM stick has errors repeat step #2 using a known good stick if possible, or another stick.
*If this RAM stick has no errors and both sticks failed in slot#1, test RAM stick #1 in this slot.
4. If you find a stick that passes the test, test it in all the... Read more

Answer:Driver_Power_State_Failure BSOD Windows 7 64 bits

There are no memory dump files included in your upload. Please do the following:

Quote:

Upload Dump Files:
Please go to C:\Windows\Minidump and zip up the contents of the folder. Then upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Left click on the first minidump file.
Hold down the "Shift" key and left click on the last minidump file.
Right click on the blue highlighted area and select "Send to"
Select "Compressed (zipped) folder" and note where the folder is saved.
Upload that .zip file with your next post.

If you have issues with "Access Denied" errors, try copying the files to your desktop and zipping them up from there. If it still won't let you zip them up, post back for further advice.

If you don't have anything in that folder, please check in C:\Windows for a file named MEMORY.DMP. If you find it, zip it up and upload it to a free file hosting service (not RapidShare as the analysts usually can't download from it) - then post the link to it.
Then, follow the directions here to set your system for Minidumps (much smaller than the MEMORY.DMP file): http://www.carrona.org/setmini.html

These devices have issues. Please check your Device Manager to see what the issues are (and if you can repair them):

Hi !!

I recently installed Win 7 Ultimate for a friend of mine in his computer. He didnt knew how to install it, so he called me to do it.
At first, i had a hard time installing it cause it was taking a very long time. Then, i disabled the floppy in bios, after that installation only took 20 minutes or so.
After a few days, he started to have some BSOD... It was the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_IGUAL BSOD, i also solved that problem with a windows hotfix i found in microsoft website.
After that, everything was fine for a week or so.
Then, it started again with the BSODs. I have here 3 diferents BSOD from the last 4 days. All have diferent problems.
I really dont understand why his computer is getting that much trouble with Win 7. I have Win 7 here, the same version he have, and i got no problem with it.

His specs are:

CPU E2180
Boad Abit I-N73H
ATI HD 2400 (with last drivers from ati for win 7)
Sound card Realtek onboard (with last drivers from realtek for win 7)
1x 2gb RAM
1TB Hardrive
Power Supply 500W

The drivers for the other components on the Motherboard are the last from ABIT.
ABIT only have Vista drivers on their website for that motherboard, i guess that could be the problem.
I've done exaustive testing on his computer, RAM was tested sucessfully (with Memtest), Hardrive was tested, scanned and desfragmented and no problems were found.
Also, that computer is working slow at time, he play a lot in online games. At times, just a simple alt+tab or right click in anything can ... Read more

You've got a STOP 0x124 error - which is either a hardware problem, or an incompatibility.
Please check here to ensure that both the software and hardware on the system is compatible: Windows 7 Compatibility: Software Programs and Hardware Devices: Find Updates, Drivers, and Downloads

Then have a look at this topic for more suggestions about the STOP 0x124 error: http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-loc...-what-try.html

Also, please remove or update these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager.
Please use the following instructions to locate the most currently available drivers to replace the one's that you uninstall OR remove:

Quote:
How To Find Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

my desktop is Dell XPS 730. it currently using Vista 32 bits. Everything runs very slow and none of games are runnable due frames dropping, skipping, and freezing even after I installed new Hard Drive. I decided upgrade to Windows 7 64 bits would help with running minecraft game without issue.

I downloaded Windows 7 USB DVD download tool and Windows 7 64 bits ISO. it installed into flash drive successful but it came with bootsect error. So I looked around for it and found here 32-Bit BootSect

I downloaded "bootsect7600x86.zip". I right clicked and clicked on Properties and clicked unblock then applied and clicked ok. Then opened and I only find Bootsect exe file, nothing else. so I clicked that and command prompts came up and disappeared really instant and nothing ever happened. What am I missing? I also need Window 7 64 bits for my laptop after new HDD arrive. Just needed to make USB bootable somehow.

EDIT: I did right clicked on that exe file and did not see "run as admin"

EDIT2: Forgot to add, do I need to have product key code? Im upgrading my desktop from vista 32 bit to windows 7 64 bit

Answer:Upgrade to Windows 7 home perm 64 bits from Vista 32 bits

The term is bit, not bits

Use WintoBootic to put the iso on the flash drive, it works perfectly everytime.

Where are you downloading the iso from, I would download it again and check the size when you`re done.

So, I finally got my hands on a Ultimate 64 bits OS (as my father mistakenly bought a 32 bits H.Premium OS).

Basically, yesterday, I reinstalled it. I installed all the motherboard drivers which came with the gygabite CD, and then downloaded the ATI drivers. Installed STALKER, played it for half an hour and then I turned it off (thinking everything was alright).

Then, today, 8 hours later, I turn it on and I find after a while it had enter repairing mode because it couldn't initiate Windows. "WTF", I thought, as yesterday it didn't crash or BSOD. So it has obviously something to do with cold boot.

It "repaired" the PC and when it restarted, I found out that AVG no longer worked and the ATI drivers seemed to have been...nullified (?). Had to reinstall them again. One more restart and it works fine (I'll just have to download MSI instead of AVG...).

Ok, before we get into hardware stuff, I'll remind you that I've done several Memtest and OCCT tests with this machine (Of course, after it started working fine after several BSODS in every single cold boot). Temperature is alright, never going further than 50 degrees C. There is no OC. RAM is at 1.50v as specified by GSKILL, CPU is at 2.6ghz and the ATI HD 5850 XXX has been Underclocked, as it came from factory with 755/1125 when normal ones come with 725/1000. Hard drive is perfect. Checked it with the WD tools and no error came up. All PASS.

Im attaching the dump to let you see what might have c... Read more

Hi,

This is what your 'System Health Report.html' file says near the top:

Code:
Symptom: The Security Center has not recorded an anti-virus product.
Cause: The Security Center is unable to identify an active anti-virus application. Either there is no anti-virus product installed or it is not recognized.
Resolution: 1. Verify that an anti-virus product is installed.
2. If an anti-virus product is installed and functioning configure Security Center to stop monitoring anti-virus status.
This won't necessarily be the cause, but it's probably something you should check out since some people post health reports which say they have no anti-virus installed even if they do. Just to be safe you should probably check your anti-virus (if any) is up-to-date and running.

I also found a '0x80070002' result code pertaining to the following:

Code:

Were you trying to install (or have already installed) some Windows Updates recently before you experienced the BSOD? If so do you remember what these were?

Furthermore perhaps some more information would be of help, in order to help us to better assist you. For example do you remember what the exact BSOD error was? Hello everyone,
I've been having these BSODs, everything uggested it was the memory RAM, so I bought another one, the computer was OK for about three weeks and then they started to show up again. I hope it's some driver problem or something... I'm just tired of trying things and I don't know what else to do, I thought it was dust, I thought it was heat, I thought it was the RAM stick, the RAM slot... I've tried it all and now I'm clueless.

If you need any info please tell me,
Thanks.

Hello everyone,

I've been browsing the Web for several days now for a fix to my BSOD issue, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere, so I decided to register and ask for some help here.

I bought a brand new computer almost a week ago (with Windows 7 64 full retail version) and I've had lots of trouble with it ever since. I'm frequently getting random BSOD no matter what I do. I've noticed those BSODs often happen shortly after startup, but I don't have the slightest idea what to do.

I've had this problem since I first booted my computer. At first, I thought the Windows insallation was corrupt, so I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows 7. But the problem kept appearing. I highly doubt the BSOD-issue is hardware-related since the system is brand new and I've been able to play games like Crysis 64 bits or Empire Total War without crashes or problems once launched.

First off, here are my specs :

Answer:BSOD issue (driver ?) on Windows 7 64 bits

Try to disable virtual memory, then reboot, and enable. Virtual mem
= page file. This is the space windows uses when you run out of physical
ram. You can also adjust your page file/virtual ram/swap file, all the same
thing...I would first try to disable then re enable.

Hi this is my first post,
I have bought my pc not longer than 1 month
Recently, when I was playing game (Warframe)
I got the BsoD error.
I have updated all the System Specifications on my profile too

Here is the original dump file
Hope someone can help me find out what is the issue causing this error
appreciate for all the helps

Answer:BSOD while gaming Windows 7 Ultimate x64 bits

The BSOD you have indicates a page fault in a non paged area. The usual causes are defective hardware, normally RAM. Sometimes it is driver related however the driver responsible cannot be identified.

I would strongly recommend running memtest86 to scan for errors.
Follow these instructions on how to run memtest.

Hey,
as the title says, I find myself in a dilema..

It started when I decided I wanted to put a total of 4GB of RAM in my computer. The problem is that I have Windows XP x86 (32-bits) installed.
Then, a few friends of mine adviced me to get rid of this old Windows XP (32-bits), get the total of 4GB of RAM and install Windows 7 x64.

My CPU's architecture supports x64 systems, as I have 4 cores. My main problem, is that I would have to reinstall all my programs, applications and drivers (because I have the 32-bits-versions installed) and that if I stay with my 32-bits-XP system, it would only read 3 to 3.5GB of RAM aprox.

In response to this, a friend told me that Windows 7 x64 wouldn't cause compatibility issues with those 32-bit programas, applications and drivers. However, if I'd like to get the best performance, I would have to download/get the x64-compatible-versions..

To sum it up, I would really like if you experts could help me and get me out of this dilema. Is it true what my friends mentioned me? Should I change and get the new Windows 7 x64? Which would be the downsides and which the upsides?

I would also like to mention that I am a still and motion graphics designer, and that the latest softwares for that (for instance all Adobe CS4) have come out x64.This would definitely be a plus if I change to Windows 7 x64, right?

Thank you very, very much.. Really.
Best regards,
Chris.

Hello Tech Support Guy Nation,

So I have an issue with getting a laptop hooked onto the router signal. The router is a brand spankin new Linksys EA4500 and the laptop is an IBM which is running Win XP (not sure of SP version as it is a customer's comp. at a hotel I run). Anyway, the error message I am encountering is:

The network password needs to be 40 bits r 104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters

At first I thought is was my router password since it contained a $ symbol so I changed it to only letters and numbers but still didn't work. I have never encountered this error message on any laptops and no other rooms have been affected. Thank you as always for the the knowledge...

Answer:Solved: Error Message:"The network password needs to be 40 bits r 104 bits depending.

You are using WPA or WPA2 encryption and the laptop--because of the lack of at least service pack 2, incorrect wireless driver, or old wireless adapter--does not support WPA(2).

Hi and welcome

this crash was caused by tcpip.sys.

I would run a system file check to erify and repair your system files to do that
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow
I would also check for updatednetwork driver.

Hi all,

I got a lot of BSOD on Windows 7 64 bits.

I have updated the video cards drivers and all the others drivers windows update suggest and it didn't really help.

I have run the Windows 7 mem test 2 times without any error.

The weird thing is that the stop code change a lot.

Here is the computer spec:
HP Pavilion a6318f PC (GX769AA) specifications - HP Home & Home Office Products
With a 8800 GT geforce 4 instead of the default card and 3 gigs instead of 2.

Any suggestion?

For now, I'm thinking of trying another video card or doing a windows repair. But I would like if someone that know how to read dmp file could point me in the right direction.

Thank you.

Edit: Doh! I just saw the bsod dedicated forum. Sorry, I didnt notice it

Answer:[SOLVED] RANDOM BSOD W7 32 BITS

The first thing in your post that caught my eye was that you said your power supply was 220watts? That is nowhere near enough power to run your system. Please double check the correct wattage and make of your power supply.

Your motherboard does not support Windows 7 so this could cause some issues.

The last three crashes were caused by Bit Defender. Please remove that software.

I installed Autocad 2010 in window 7(64 bits). I couldn't install because Autocad software software is 32 bits. Window 7 is 64 bits. So it couldn't not install. So I would like to know how to install 32 bits software in 64 bits window 7.

Answer:how to install 32 bits software in 64 bits window 7

32 bit software will run on 64 bit Windows 7 without any special steps being taken. Windows 7 64 bit actually maintains a 32 bit registry in order to accommodate 32 bit programmes. If you cannot install Autocad the problem is likely to be something more that the 32/64 bit difference. There is the possibility that it wouldn't even install on 32 bit Widows 7 and it is the OS itself that is the problem. You need to contact Autocad and see what they say about the problem, after all they know there own software better than anyone else.Stuart

This is a rather unsual error message from Windows 7, that cannot even run 16-bits programs, quote:

"Too many other files are currently in use by 16-bit programs. Exit one or more 16-bit programs, or increase the value of files in your Config.sys file."

The only time that this issue shows up is when trying to run a program as administrator from within my standard user account. The "Run as..." could be initiated either manually, or by running a program that requires elevated access rights to the system, such as starting an installation as a standard user.

The error is seemed to be triggered by the UAC, or more accurately the "consent.exe" file that actually locks up the screen and nothing can be accessed. It seems that the system is waiting for input for the UAC, clicking anywhere on the screen results in the typical error sound but nothing else. The "ctrl-alt-del" does bring up a list, selecting log out pops up the quoted error message during the logoff process. Logging back in with the same UID seems normal, until the "Run as..." initiated and the system seems locked again. Rebooting the system clears up this error, but it does come back in an irregular interval. The timeframe could be from an hour, or more, on some days it does not come back at all.

While Windows 7 64-bit does not have a "config.sys" file, one has been added to "C:\" that contains:

Answer:16-bits program error message in 64-bits W7...

Well, having the "config.sys" file did not help. The system still have the same issues as posted earlier. Removing EMET 3.5 didn't help either...

Other than the "Run as...", the system works fine with any other programs. While I could grant administrator access to my user account, I'd prefer not to do it.

Would anyone have an idea what could cause this issue?

Can someone explain these figures to me? Im talking about 8 Bits/channel in terms of imagery and pictures. I dont really get these. Is it the smaller the number, the better the picture? And, I heard that there are also different colour channels? Like Red and Blue channels, are these just the channels in which the computer can read and identify? And what about 48 bit colour? Is that in the same category as 8 Bits/channel? Or is it something totally different.I need to know more about colours.Thanks.

Answer:48 bits 16 bits 8 Bits Channel.

Essentially, bits per channel represents colour depth, the higher the bits per channel, the higher the range of distinct colours. This should explain better than I could click hereAnd when your finished reading that click here for answers to your colour channels query.

The network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters.

This is the error message I keep receiving whilst trying to connect a windows xp laptop onto a netgear router. Using Intel Pro/wireless 2200BG network connection.

I already have a macbook which connects fine as do my friends laptops when they come over. The laptop in question has worked before on this router with no issues, however, this is no more!!!

I think I might need to amend some setting to choose WPA but I can't figure out how to do it!!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Question: windows 64 bits

good day
how do i know , 9if their are any way ) what windows i do have in my PC , it is windows 64 bits or other. thank you verry much. and what it is the difference between the 2 windows.

Answer:windows 64 bits

howdy Leduc,

If you right click the "my computer" Icon and click properties it will tell you right in that window what version you are using..

As for which one is better? That depends. If you are using a 64 bit cpu like an AMD 64 then the 64 it will work. If not then it will not work. Another easy way is to know what type of cpu you have. If it is not a 64 bit cu then you cannot have a 64 bit os..

What type of cpu do you have?

Hi,

I need your advices about wheter I should install Seven ultimate 32 or 64 bits.
My configuration is a bit oldish and I am not going to upgrade it.
- Gigabyte GA-K8NS
- Sempron64 3100+
- 3x1GB of DDR PC3200
Most of the application I use are so far only available in 32 bits.
All my hardware have 64 bits driver.
Got only 3GB of RAM so it is fully addressed by Seven 32

Do I get any better performance by having Seven 64
and use mostly 32 bit applications ?

Answer:Windows seven 32 or 64 bits

If your computer is old and most of the programs would not run with 64 bit, I would stay with 32. The performace increase would be marginal, at best.

Hello:

We plan to buy several laptops and desktop preloaded with XP and most of them will have at least 8 GB of memory.

From what I have read XP 32 bits cannot access more than 4 GB. Is this true? What would happen if I install 8 GB on an XP 32 bits machine?

Should we go ahead with 32 bits or 64 bits?

I've heard that the 64 bits laptop drivers are kinda expensive.

I'm not sure if all of our existing applications (i.e. antivirus) installed on our existing xp 32 bits machines could be installed on a 64 bits machine with no problems.

Or would we need to purchase the 64 bit versions?

it is true 32 bit will only see about 3 gigs, however, companies are not beyond selling more than what is needed for the sake of a sale. It is done all the time.

drivers are free. Just go the specific laptops manufacturers website and see if they have 64 bit drivers, if they do, all you have to do is download and install - once you install a 64 bit os. However if they don't then there is a good chance your computer would not support 64 bit os for the specific operating system.

64 is the norm now. generally speaking 64 bit computers will support either 32 or 64 bit drivers and software.

one other thing to consider, if you want to upgrade from 32 to 64 bit, you will have to do a complete install of the os. You cannot upgrade.

i guys, this is 1st post on these forums, which i like a lot, especially the reviews, but anyways im having a hard time to decide which OS im gonna run on my new rig.....i already have all the components......what i do usually with my pc's is encode dvd's and audio....and especially i play games a lot.
these are my spec:

CPU: q6600 g0 stepping
MOBO: EVGA 680i NF68T1
VIDEO CARDS: EVGA 8800gts 640mb ( im waiting for the other one to run SLI )
HDD: WD Raptor 150 GB SATA Hard Drive ( for booting and for all my software ) and a WD SATA 2 500 GB for storage
RAM: Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB(2 x 2GB) ddr2 800mhz

i know i have to be on a 64 bits OS ( cause im using 4gigs on ram ) but im trying to decide which one ?
i have been researching this for a lot of time, and still i cant decide.....i have been reading that vista lets the government spy on your pc, that uses a lot of ram when its on idle, compatibility issues, not stable.........and about xp 64 bits, we all know that xp is already the past and that we gotta move to new things but i like to hear from the experts on this community what do you think ? do you have any recommendations, any thoughts ?

thanks in advance for all your help

Answer:xp 64 bits or vista 64 bits ?

You say you play games a lot. I'd say go with Vista because of that. DirectX10 is going to be mainstream before long.

Please forgive me if this had been posted before. I searched here and didn't learn enough in the previous posts. So here is my inquiry.

Been using Vista Home Premium for a while with no problem. However, I now have a copy of retail Ultimate 64 bits. I read that there are many benefits besides being able to see all 4Gig of rams with 64 bits. As the process only be done by clean installation, I would like to know how, if I can at all, to back up all the stuffs that I've been using so I can "restore" after I switch to 64 bit instead of redo everything. I'll be greatly appreciate if you can explain to me step by step.

My US Robotic dial up modem only has 32 bits driver; please suggest a good one that work with 64 bits.

Please let me know anything significant I need to know before I switch?

Thank you!

Answer:Need help in 32 bits to 64 bits switching...

Hi Bruce2,

Welcome to the forum.

Since you are switching from 32 bit to 64 bit Vista, the safest route is to just backup any files you do not want to lose to a CD/DVD. You can just transfer them back when done installing the 64 bit. There is just to much of a difference to do a complete backup and restore between the two bit version with your programs and installers.

If you would like to make it even easier, have all of your programs and 64 bit drivers installation files on DVD as well.

And how?

Answer:32-bits program on 64-bits PC.

You must do a clean install of 64bit. You cannot make a 32bit into a 64bit. You will have to format and reinstall.

I've have tried to download the latest update from Windows, but I get the error code of 0x80246008, meaning the BITS wasn't on. After trying to turn on the BITS, I get the error code 998. I have looked on some sites and I can't seem to find the answer. If there is an easy way to fix it and that I can get updating again, that would be great.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Hello,

I'm planning on getting Windows 7 64 bits. I was wondering if I can install this on a non-64 bits processor? (the rig in my signature)
A tech told me I could run it without a problem, but he is also a seller for a large business equipment so I think he's more of a seller than a computer expert.

And if I can't, any suggestions on a good 64 bits processor? I don't especially need a beast, I'm infographist and I need to run the Adobe Suite CS5.

Thanks!

Hi

I have a simple question that I haven't been able to find the answer to by searching, so I'm hoping someone here knows.

Is there a way to tell if a Windows 7 installation is 32 bit or 64 bit simply by looking in the install folders/files? The reason I ask is that I have a few USB sticks that I made into bootable Windows 7 installations. It took hours, and I don't really want to redo it if I can help it. I didn't label which was 32 bit and 64 bit. I realize I could install them on a virtual machine and tell that way... but it'd be much easier if I could simply browse them and know that way somehow.

Answer:Windows 7 bits identification

Look for a SysWOW64 folder in %windir% (c:\windows)
If it's there, it's x64 Windows.

Windows 8/8.1

Hi

I check for my updates periodically which are set to 'check for updates but let me decide' and
I also turn on 'Windows Update & Bits' in 'services.msc' which I turn off after every check so I have
nothing running in the background, however, if I recheck a short time after I find that both services have
been re-activated again. After several attempts I manage to turn them off.
Anyone know why, and how to control this??

Cheers

Windows 8 RTM for IT Pros and developers will be coming August 15th (via Technet and MSDN). I wonder if Lenovo officially supports upgrading our PCs to Windows 8 then. I have the A720 and mysteriously, the C: drive is the larger, HDD whereas the D: drive is the smaller, SSD. I don't want to simply start the installation from within Windows 7 because then it will install on C: drive which is not what I want. I could blow away the entire existing install and start from scratch with the SSD for install but I suspect there is some Lenovo magic happening behind the scenes (as in, it is using the SSD for system use even though Windows seems to be installed on C: drive). I don't want to mess with that, if I can avoid it. Is there a Lenovo recipe for upgrading to Windows 8 on this PC?

Hello,
I have a big problem with one of my computer on my personnal network.

My configuration :
1 laptop on windows vista 32bits
1 laptop on windows 7 64 bits
1 Computer on windows 7 64 bits.
1 NAS
All are in the same network, linked to internet.

I have problems with the computer on windows 7 64 bits. The other are working normally.

The symptoms :
- At first, since this afternoon, steam did not want to connect and now each time "Steam has stopped working". I tried to reinstall several times, but I still have the same problem.
- And now, all the software apparently linked with the network cannot work. Each time, I have "xxxx has stopped working".
View nx2 does not work. Capture NX2 can work but I try to open a file on the network,it stops working. In fact, as soon as I click on "network icon".

And finally, I wanted to launch hijackthis, but it stops working when it arrives at :"O4 - registry & start menu autorun".

Please help me.

edit : I have started in safemode : hijackthis has the same problem.

Answer:Thinkpad T410 and Windows 10 64 bits.

Try booting the computer using the USB stick, then once it boots then remove the USB stick, and let the install take place.  My guess is during the install the computer reboots at some point and with the USB stick still in the machine it boots to it first and keeps rebooting automatically as a result.  I seem to recall a time given before the system restarts if no selection is made.

Hi! So today I bought a new Wireless Xbox360 controller receiver for my Gaming PC, and I couldn't install the drivers! I got code 37 or something but it turns out it's because my Windows Update was not working. When promted to 'check for updates' It would give the message:

"Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer"

So I checked services.msc and both wuauserv and Background Intelligence Transfer... were not there.

Therefore I assumed there were some corrupt or missing registry files -or maybe a permission issue-, and I downloaded the approriate .reg files to patch them up; wuauserv worked fine but the BITS reg file gave the following error message:

"Cannot import C:\users\pc\appdata\local\Temp\Rar%DI00.653\bits-service-for-7-8vista.reg: Not all data was successfully written to the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes."

And even though wuauserv succesfully imported to the registry it still gives the same error message as Paragraph 2.

I tried a solution of launching regedit through PSTools and importing the reg file manually however it still would not work as it gave another generic error message.

So at this point i'm completely stumped and don't know what to do; I'm not sure if I even identified the problem correctly or tried the right solutions! So here I am, asking for help can some computer wizard please come help me out?

My Windows Update has refused to download updates since Nov. 1, and it currently reads that there are 14 important updates pending. I can't recall if I downloaded something that may have caused this, but all research indicates that it's spyware-related.

Research also pointed me in the direction of my BITS service possibly being disabled; when I went into services I found that it was not only disabled, it was nonexistent. All searches regarding this problem have turned up results for XP, which have had no result in Vista. I have no restore point to go back to, and I'm started to get rather frustrated (not to mention worried).

Any help on getting the BITS service reinstalled, and hopefully, Windows Update working again?

For the record, the error code I'm getting is 80246008.

Edit: Automatic Updates service is also missing.

Thanks in advance.

All is in the topic...

From a 3 Gib DVD installer, and after all updates,a fresh windows installation weight is just 36 Gigabytes...

By the way, update process took about 10 hours to download and install, (2 working days!!), and needed 7 steps, clicking windows update each time, with newer updates found after updates just deployed :x
(It just took nearly 3 hours from my first clic request for a windows update to the moment windows found the 187 updates avaible)
(We have nice working vdsl connection, before anyone blames our 56Kbps modem ;) )

A simple question: is this serious, really  ? answer is no but i want you to say it :)
A second question: can i decrease the size of it ? are there any MS tools or serious third party tools wich would clean some space ?

(i already cleaned updates files via disk cleaner, and i get rid off hiberfile too.)
Thanks for help

Hello everyone!

Yesterday I was able to upgrade for free to Windows 10 from Windows 7. And to be honest I'm don't really like to upgrade, I always want to do a fresh install when I have to change my operating system. And from what I read on some blogs, there are issues with the activation of Windows 10 that can only be fixed by upgrading to Windows 10 and then from there to make a bootable USB using their Windows 10 Tool.
So I did that. I upgraded from Windows 10 using their app and now I want to make the USB stick for a fresh install. The problem is that today, when I put Windows 10 to download, for some reason my house ran out of power for few seconds and for some reason. Exactly then. What are the chances? Anyway, I won't go into details, let's just asume it is the same thing as running out of batery on a laptop.
I restarted the computer and tried to continue the thing. But then there was a problem. When I re-run the Windows 10 Download Tool I got this error: https://i.imgur.com/EUtHfio.png
I looked on C:\ and found these 2 folders (https://i.imgur.com/2RTIgTE.png) that includes, I guess, the .iso with Windows 10? https://i.imgur.com/0R76Sm6.png
So I tried to delete that folder and start over with the Tool. But I couldn't delete the folder because it was used in a program. Then I found that the program was a service, which is BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service). I stopped the service and managed to delete the folders and then i tried to run the Tool again. It ... Read more

Answer:BITS keeps downloading Windows 10 in background

I ran into something similar and just reset WU. I think you're going to have to purge the SoftwareDistribution folder to get rid of the issue.

So first off, I was infected with the Sirefef.Trojan which I got helped with, but now I have another problem.

My windows update doesn't fully work as this pops up as it is about to download updates "Windows Update Error 80246008".

Now the other problem is that in services.msc, the file BITS does not work. Before this it was not there so I had to manually install it. When I try to start BITS in services manually I get the error "error 2: the system cannot find the file specified".

How do I fix the BITS issue as I need that to work for windows update to work I presume?

Thank you

Hello. Yesterday, when i opened my computer, my MSE antivirus noticed me of a virus in C:\users\(my user name), then told me to delete it, rebooted, but it still appeared(it was a file with a strange name, something like a243bqs23.exe). So, i entered safe mode, and manually deleted it from there. The problem is, after i came back, microsoft security essential had an red icon with an x in the middle, and when i clicked on it it said real time protection is deactivated and that i should activate it, but when i press on the activate button, i get the error: security essentials did not activate the protection in real time, with error code 0x800705b4. In addition, another antivirus i have, malware bytes, when i open it, it has the real time protection module deactivated, and when i try to activate it it sais PROGRAM_ERROR_PROTECTION_MODULE (1068, 0, ProtectionEnable). I guessed that the virus acted in the registry, so i used a third antivirus, superantispyware, to scan it, and indeed, it appeared a registry virus (with the name regedit.exe), so i just ran the antivirus and cleaned the computer. But, even after this clean, nothing was done. So, i decided to use the command sfc /scannow, but with no succes, as it sais i have no integrity error. Next, i tried to use system restore, but after 3 minutes, after it restarted, i got an error where the system could not be restored, as the files could not be copied to windows directory from the backup data. In addition, a program i had, cor... Read more

Answer:Strange problem windows 7 32 bits

You may be infected with a rootkit. These are very difficult to find and remove. They can be so deeply hidden that sometimes a clean install of the operating system and all programs, personal data, etc is the only way to get rid of it. Microsoft has a free tool called Windows Defender Offline. It should be created on a computer that is known to be malware free. This tool can scan the infected machine before the operating system boots making it possible to find and quarantine the bad guy(s). But once a machine is infected you can never be 100% sure that all traces of the infection have been removed. I'd give WDO a try. Nothing to lose at this point.

Windows Defender Offline

If it's successful you can then try another sfc /scannow or repair install to fix any damaged or corrupt system files.

Hi,
I have windows 7 64 bits installed in the system and over the past few months it takes forever to log off if i use the system for some time. However if i use the system for 2 hours or more then it logs off normally.

I would really appreciate any good suggestion.!!

Answer:windows 7 64 bits takes forever to log off

sounds like something is hanging, did you update a driver at around the time it slowed down, or add a program?
hers a link to a clean boot, see if it helps narrow down whats hanging.. Perform a clean startup to determine whether background programs are interfering with your game or program

how do you disable bits in windows xp hiome edition. i want that 20% more bandwidth

Answer:Disable bits windows home xp

The Background Intelligence Transfer Service(BITS) entry needs to remain on "Automatic" or "Manual" in the services list.

It's one of the services that's required for Windows Updates to work properly.

It does NOT steal 20% of your internet bandwidth.

Upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate which makes you eligible for language pack. Or buy an English Win7 Pro altogether.
