Display error, leading to computer lock, with dump

Question: Display error, leading to computer lock, with dump

Hello everyone, and thank you beforehand for the assistance

Ever since the 13th this month, it seems my computer (or my graphics card) has been playing tricks on me, and crashes at random intervals. What happens is, mostly during games (World of Warcraft, Just cause 2), at completely random times the screen will go from normal to supper choppy / pixilated / colored squares, making the screen freeze. Most of the times, the computer will lock but sometimes it is possible that background applications will resume (such as Ventrillo), however I can no longer access them and I am forced to reboot.

The error started to occur once, maybe twice on a 6+ hour play through, however it has gotten quite frequent, and at one time I was even unable to go to windows 7, as soon as I got there the same error would occur. I opened up my Computer and cleaned it inside as best as I can thinking it might be some heating problem, but the only improvement was that I could again go to windows, even play for a half hour or 1 hour before the problem repeats itself.
Here is the complete list of things I have tried so far:
- Format / Install fresh windows installation
- Stress tested my graphics card through OCCT / 3D mark vantage (no problem in either tests)
- Tried different windows (windows vista x64)

Shortly afterwards I decided to get to the root of the problem, so I installed the debugging tools for windows, looked for the dumps, and found that the problem is indeed due to the NVidia drivers / graphics card.
What I would beg of you is if there is some way I can fix it without having to resort to RMA ? My system spec is on my profile, but basically I?m running dual EVGA GTX 280 on SLI.
Again, many thanks for whatever assistance you can provide!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am afraid that these do point to the directx portion of the video driver. I would go to the mfr's site and get their un-install tool to remove all remnants of the current driver. I would only re-install the driver and not all the other junk.

I might also be heat related so I would download cpu-z, and gpu-z (both free) to keep an eye on the temp's

It could also be a PSU problem. what PSU? how many amps on the video rail? etc

let us know if you need help

My wife's laptop has developed a bad habit of randomly locking up to the point you have to hold the power button to shut the laptop off. I'm just wondering if it's possible to get Windows to write a crash dump off events like that, or is that at the point where it's just not going to happen even with the correct options selected?

The laptop is a HP G62 Notebook PC running Windows 7. More exact information can be provided if needed.

Answer:Can you get a crash dump on computer lock-up?

Hi,

Uninstall the software that owns this driver. If you don't know which it is, then rename the driver to .bak:

Code:
1: kd> lmvm rspCrash64
start end module name
fffff880`0be11000 fffff880`0be19000 rspCrash64 T (no symbols)
Loaded symbol image file: rspCrash64.sys
Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\rspCrash64.sys

ImageSize: 00008000
Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4

And then navigate to here to find its subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services

Export it and then delete it, once you've located the correct one.

I used to have screen-saver set as 'none' and 'on resume, display logon screen', and set the time there the same as the 'display off' option in 'power options'. And that works fine on a PC, no issues there.

Now I started using a laptop, and it has different 'display off' times for 'when plugged' and 'when unplugged', and different display off times for different 'power plans', so I can't use that trick any more.

How can I do 'lock computer when display off' ?

Hello techspot, you all havent heard from me since i set out on building this machine about a year ago. Well everythings been gravy since this past saturday night. My system specs should be up at the top right of this post btw.

I was using this year-old machine as usual that night, not even gaming, when for the first time it shut off on its own. On an attempt to reboot, the machine didnt reach the loading screen for vista before it shut itself off again. Not a restart, a straight up shut off. After trying to boot it up a couple more times to no avail, I went to the first logical diagnosis-it was overheating.

Now since this is a liquid cooling system for the cpu, solving this overheating seemed relatively easy. There is a radiator on the front of the case with two 12" fans blowing into it, forming the intake of the airflow throughout the case. These two fans are covered from the outside by drive bay covers, each with a foam-type material to allow airflow. I pulled these drive bay covers to find a thick layer of dust on the inside of each. I cleaned all of the dust off of each and started the machine without replacing the drive bay covers to ensure the radiator fans were unrestricted. I immediately noticed that the liquid cooling pump started gurgling and this gave me hope. The machine booted up fine and once i got it to the desktop, i messed around online for a bit and called it a night, seeing as it was about 3 am at that point.

The following day i di... Read more

Hi All

Someone has asked me the following question and I can't find a way of doing it. She is printing - via mail merge - some raffle tickets, and is using excel for the generation of the ticket numbers. The format of the numbers on each ticket needs to have its number displayed in the form of;

000001
000002

through to

999999

ie with leading zero's displayed... but I can't see any way to have those leading zeros displayed on the numbers 1 to 99,999. Is there a way to accomplish this in excel?

Thanks

Hey PC Advisor community,
Hoping you all can help me out with an issue I'm having.
Over the weekend my PC randomly turned itself off and when I rebooted, everything fired up but the monitor wouldn't display anything (load logo but comes back with no signal).
Tried to reset the CMOS but nothing until I reseated the RAM. However this only seems to be a temporary fix and the same issue would occur every 10-30mins (always random restart but sometimes the display would function).
Ran a memory diagnostic and no errors were detected. Also tried reseating the RAM in other ports but always the same result - temporary fix.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Here's a list of my hardware:
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VII HERO ATX LGA1150
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory

Lenovo Y720 So, when I hit caps ock or num lock an on screen display tells me whether capslock or num ock has been pushed. While I appreciate it is helpful for some, in my case it become a hinderance. You need to remove "num lock" for single key print screen request, and if I have a short time frame, I am stuck without being able to screenshot until the num lock indicator goes away.  How do I turn off the on screen display.  Now, before you send me to the previously asked questions of similar nature, I have tried. There is no "display settings" in Control Panel. There is no "advanced display settings" on the settings panel. And there is no way to control it through NVIDIA or Intel graphics settings (that I can see).  Thanks kindly.

I recently got a computer from a friend. He was having issues and just decided to buy a new one and give me his. When I start the computer and it gets to the windows accounts logon page I have a svchost.exe Application errorThe Instruction at"0x75099b19" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The Memory could not be written. Click ok to terminate the program. If I click ok, that error goes away and lsass.exe error comes up. Lsass.exe has terminated unexpectedlywith the status code 1073741819, and then the computer restarts. Now if I don't close the svchost error and just let it sit there, then I can do whatever I want on the computer, just have a little annoying popup there. Hello Guys,,

I am new to the forum and this is my second post. My home built rig (see systemspec for details) is about 4 years old and has been overclocked since day onewith no problems. I decided to install a fresh format/install of Windows 8 pro64bit (see below for history) on a new Samsung SSD 840 Pro 512GB harddrive. The rest of the hardware and settings are exactly the same apartfrom the extra hard drive. I used to run Vista 32bit.

I installed it on Saturday 19th January 2013 and it ran fine for a week, Ispent the whole of that weekend (18hrs each day), benchmarking, testing, installing software, adjusting settings and installing/setting upmany metro apps. The following week after work I was finishing offinstalling software etc etc from 6pm to 4am in the morning to thisSaturday pm just gone (26th Jan) so it had had plenty of use whilst Ihad virtually no sleep!!

At 8.30pm (1 week later) I had finally finished the reinstall apart frominstalling some games and was feeling really pleased with my refreshed PCwhen I got the modern Windows 8 version of the BSD, it said somethingabout it going wrong and started to reboot, the system failed to boot andsaid it needed to do a refresh but some apps would be lost, I wasn't keento do that as I'd just spent all that time reinstalling everything.

I restarted the PC several times and noticed that my d: drive (just a backupdrive with "My Pictures" on) was missing from the ACHI BIOS uponboot, I unplugged the computer and trie... Read more

Hi all,

Windows Startup repair occasionally pops up on startup though it can never find what the problem was. Interestingly its occurence dimininished rapidly when I replaced MSE with Avast.

Anyway - loaded up as normal and then got a pop up concerning Itunes. The pop up said "Itunes not installed correctly. Please Re-install. Error 7 (Win error 193).

The screen then flashed up with lines down it (very quickly) then onto a blue screen with various data. Windows then reloaded and everything was fine.

The latter part has happened once or twice before a while ago. I had Windows reinstalled less than a year ago. I have replaced my grpahics card in the summer.

I'm just concerned that one day the pc won't work. I'm unemployed as use the PC daily to search and apply for jobs...so it would be sod's law if this went down.

Any ideas or advice?

Answer:Itunes error leading to brief BSOD

scamander,

IF you have been getting BSOD'S...

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

I was doing some video editing the other day when for the first time my compute froze, shortly after i got the evil blue screen of death came up and it said something about stuck in a loop. I restarted and over the speakers it kept saying "system failed VGA test". I restarted it about 4 times and suddenly it switchs on normaly with the voise saying system loading to windows, so of corse i had a look around the system and everything seemed to be ok. I played some high graphic games which showed that it was ok.

Then this morning on start up i get the "system failed VGS test" again, so i restarted it another few times and what do you know it comes on as normal after a few tryes. I looked in my motherboard manual and it says that the voise means "Install a PCI VGA card into one of the PCI slots, or a 1.5v AGP card into the AGP slot." and "Make sure that your VGA/AGP cardis not defective".

Now i've had this card for quite a while and it's been very reliable, and the fact i was playing some high graphic games later on that day seems to suggest it should be fine and when it crashed to the blue screen i wasn't playing anything on the video editing just dragging a clip on the timeline. Anyone have an idea how to fix?

I have:
AMD athlon XP 2800+
Radeon 9800 Pro
A7N8X-E Deluxe
1GB ram

Answer:Blue screen leading to VGA error

most likely your video card is going bye bye.

try reseating it.

the best thing to try is: put the video card in a known good machine. and see if you get the same error.
if you can't do that you can try a good card in that machine, and see if you don't get a error, then you know it was that video card; but if you do still get the error with that known good card in it, then it's something else, and let us know.

hope i haven't over explain too much

good luck.

My computer recently started opening IE windows whenever I was browsing in Firefox. I was able to locate some Namespace redirect lines (017) in the HijackThis log and fix those as well as scan and clear it of any virus that the scan could come up with.
Now it is seemingly randomly bringing up the JIT debugger saying "An unhandled Win32 error occured in SVCHOST.EXE[464]" (also have seen [880]). If I close the debugger then it will say "Windows must now restart because the DCOM Server Process Launcher Service terminated unexpectedly."
Since I have JIT enabled I can just let it sit on the screen asking me if I want to open it in the debug mode and it won't restart my computer but I'd like to get rid of it happening altogether.

I've posted my HijackThis log below...Thanks!

Answer:SVCHost error leading to system reboot

Can anyone give me a hand with this problem?

Also, it seems like the random IE pages that it was opening didn't stop. I disabled scripts in IE and it would prompt me each time it tried to open the page to turn scripts off so I could easily close it before it even opened but it was still a problem.
Leaving the debug window open let me keep working when the svchost crashed but my wife closed it last night and when the computer rebooted it was completely screwed up and I couldn't even do anything in normal mode.
I rebooted in safe mode and was able to clear 10-12 virus/trojans with an Anti-Virus software, use the ATF temp folder deletor, and used another program that runs in a command window (it starts with an S and prompts you to chose 1 to scan, 2 to clean, 3 to do something with Trusted Zones...can't remember the name) to try and clean it up as best I could.
Upon restart I log-in to windows and it says "Logging in" followed soon after by "Logging out" and back to the windows login. I think I know the cause of this and will try it when I get back from the library where I'm typing this but I still will probably have the other problems when I get back into Windows.

Please help.

Hello,

I am new to this forum and wanted to get some help since my computer has been acting up lately.

Initially I used firefox 2 days ago and started to get a 404 google nginx error when I used google. I noticed searches didn't have a autofill fuction and when I clicked on images on the top, it redirected me to a google image search engine as opposed to just providing the images for the initial search I had.

After looking into the problem, I tried to solve it by looking at the host files and wasn't able to fix it.

All of a sudden, my firefox started to redirect me to happili search engine and eventually got to a point where my computer slowed down considerably and my FF doesn't open at all. (Must use IE on that computer which also runs extremely slow)

It seems like I messed up my situation more than I thought over the last 2 days of trying to solve the problem. (Tried using combo fix which stopped at stage 48... It was a direct dl somewhere online on a topic similar to mine and I used it without knowing that I should have taken my time to read through its use only when mentioned to do so by someone who knew what they were doing...)

I am somewhat lost now after trying a few things and would like some assistance. Please let me know what to provide and I will do my best to provide it asap.

Hi, when trying to run my network troubleshooter I get 'A problem is preventing the troubleshooter from opening', so I clicked error details and managed to get somewhere on windows that told me to run the 'SFC /scannow' function in an elevated CMD prompt. So I ran it and it gets to 12% then says: 'Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.'

So I printed a log file and this is it:

Hello everyone!
I got Acer aspire 5742g
i5 480M @ 2.67
Currently installed 4GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM
I'm using Win7 Home Pre x64.

An year back I bought 4x2 GB Corsair RAM and replaced the RAM which was available with the laptop.

One of the ram was malfunctioning so I got it replaced. Now when I installed the new ram the laptop boots up, goes through BIOS and starts loading windows. But then it reboots itself and starts loading again.

This loops continues until I remove it and use my old ram. When I install only my new ram its gives me BSOD error (IRQL LESS OR EQUALS TO, and BAD POOL ERROR).

I tried loading into safe mode, but then it freezes after loading ClassCNP.sys (or something like that).
I even decided to format my system but it seems like it won't even load up the UI for installing new OS.

I'm stuck as I want to upgrade to 8GB but I'm not able to.
Please assist with the problem.

Answer:RAM upgrade leading to bootloops and BSOD, error BAD POOL.

Sounds like you still have problematic RAM, either faulty or non compatible
You may need to manually set the ram speed and voltages in your bios to get them to run, this info should be marked on the packet the ram came in and also on a sticker on the ram itself

You could try running memtest to check the ram for you or try individual stick to see if some work and some dont
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Is the ram matched ie all identical make/model etc

If it looks like a Windows message box it may be Windows Messenger spam.Messenger (not to be confused with MSN Messenger, AOL IM or any other internet messenger) was originally created for system administrators and users to communicate with other users on large networks.Spammers have figured out how to send spam with it taking advantage of exploits on your computer. What you describes sounds likeWindows Messenger SpamTo block the spam is to turn off Messenger Service. To do that:--In Windows XP, click Start>>Control Panel--In Windows 2000, click Start>>Settings>>Control PanelIn both versions:--Double click Administrative Tools--Double click Services--Double click Messenger--Under Service Status, click Stop--In the box next to Startup Type, select Disabled--Click Apply>>OKAlternatively, you can download a small program that will disable Messenger Service called “Shoot The Messenger” which is available athttp://www.grc.com/freepopular.htmDownload and run “Shoot The Messenger”If your home page is being changed, that is another issue entirely. If that is what is happening:Run both Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy from safe mode, updating each program’s malware definitions before you scan and allowing both to fix what they find.If you do not already have these freeware aps installed on your computer, you can get them at the following sites:*AdAware SE: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html*Spybot S&D: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/in... Hi, two days ago, i started getting redirected google search results... thats when i found this site. I started by running CWShredder, then found your readme first forum with instructions on removing malware before i download hijack.

I took all steps in the readme first forum in order, but ran into hiccups.

The post eventually told me to run Spyware Blaster, however the scan would never finish, it just gave me an error message saying "something bad happened."

so i went on with the other steps normally, 'til i ran Bitdefender online. It also gave me an error message and closed, but this one said:
Buffer overrun detected!
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORER.EXE ...

So i am now under the impression that this is not only just a malware problem, am I right?

There is also a folder called Content.IE5 in my temporary internet folder that if i get anywhere near or try to delete, it says Windows has encountered an error and has to close... This also happens in safe mode.

So my question is this, what do i do next? I will continue with the instructions on the intro readme post, but what else could I do to eliminate this problem? Thank you very much for you time in assisting.

Hi all,

My Toshiba Satellite P300 all of a sudden stopped working. I was burning a music disk and the computer froze, tried to exit the program using task manager with success. I rebooted the laptop to refresh everything before trying to burn again. the computer rebooted and hung at the Toshiba Leading inovation screen, at the base of screen it says press F2 to enter setup, press F12 to enter multiboot selection menu.

Pressing either of theses buttons does nothing, I have also tried to enter recovery by holding in 0 key, and also C key with disk but still nothing happens.

Anyone with any ideas please, I haven't had any problems or signs of problems until this happend.

Regards
Adam

Answer:Computer hangs at Toshiba Leading Innovation screen

I had similar problem on my old A200. After removing HDD I was able to enter BIOS settings.
I have replaced HDD with new one and now it works perfectly.

Try to do the same. Remove HDD and start notebook again, just to see if you will be able to enter BIOS.

Hi
hi, my comp is having some audio problems and I really need help. -windows 7 ultimate 64 bit-

I haven't been able to start up windows properly without a blue screen followed by restart. I can only start in safe mode.

It says one or more audio services aren't working.
it says i have no audio playback device installed. One or more audio service isn't running. Both the Windows Audio and the Windows Audio End Point Builder services must be running for audio to work correctly. Atleast one of these services isn't running.

looking at a previous thread, when I checked services. My windows audio and audio end point are at automatic, however when I check properties>discrepancies, there is not information.

What do I do??

Don't log in :-D

Use a very difficult password. We have plenty of password generators on majorgeeks.
Enable the system admin account and password protect it.
Those two are probably enough. How advanced is he?

I have an Athlon 650, 512 MB PC running Windows 2000 server edition running Internet Connection Sharing (for cable modem), and IIS 5.0 for several web sites. I also use it as a file server. I usually leave it just sitting there and just update things every once in a while. I don't even have a monitor hooked to it. Should I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and click the "lock computer" or log out? Would this make it more secure somehow to hacks? I haven't had any problems yet, but I just want it secure as possible.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,

Cory

Does anyone know of any (if not the correct) way of formatting/viewing a DrWatson user-dump file ?

My operating system is Windows 7, and my computer is a Dell. My main internet browser is Firefox.

I have been directed to this forum from here:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/504053/display-driver-failing-and-the-blue-screen-of-death/page-2#entry3142066

If you'd like to skim in there to see what kinds of problems i've been having, have at it! I'll summarize for you, though.

Basically, my computer is 'on the fritz'

At random, the screen suddenly goes black and seems to freeze up. When it comes back, it says that my display driver had stopped working, but had recovered. It doesn't ALWAYS recover, though...sometimes, it goes black, and then blue-screens on me (cache dump). It forces my laptop to restart, where the black start-up windows is suddenly littered with red dots. When it starts up with the red-and-black instead of solid black, it WILL NOT restart normally. It'll continue cycling through the start-up and bluescreen until I just give up and get on through Safemode with Networking. Sometimes, this lasts for days on end. Other days, it boots up completely normally.

I've worked with a moderator on here already in the Infected forum, and they don't think malware is the problem. I quote: "Mention we feel it may be clean here. Link to this topic. Let's see what they find."

OH! Also, Internet Explorer pops up at complete random, redirecting me to various websites. ALL of the redirects start with the following URL: http://cpvfeed... Read more

I have a green light on my keyboard which is good for me.So is it possible to completely turn off the capslock display without turning off the other displays? Henkert.

Hello,  I'm currently shopping for a notebook. I stopped by a local retailer to check out the IdeaPad Z580, but there is no indication if the CAPS LOCK is on or off.  There is no keyboard LED light (which I would prefer), and there was no onscreen display. I then stopped by another retail outlet, and checked out the Lenovo there also, again no indication if the CAPS LOCK is on or off. I noticed in the download/driver section there is a driver for CAPS LOCK / NUM LOCK on-screen-displayhttp://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS028421 Not sure why the in-store Z580 displays didn't work; maybe because they where running Windows 8? My Samsung laptop (stolen) had an on-screen caps lock display, but the icon was very cartoonish and should I say... stupid looking. What does Lenovo's CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK indicator look like?

Answer:How to lock display settings

Why are you shouting ! Iam really not bothered that much by it however many consider using all capital letters or caps lock to be shouting when using the keyboard in a forum ! If your keyboard wont allow you to unlock it from upper case letters then that would be another story and another problem to trouble shoot ? I do not know of anyway to lock your display ,if you are the adminstrator using a password so no one can access your account and change anything would work and also in dispaly properties you can save your theme on the themes tab ,so if someone was to change it you can simply change it back to that theme ! I just had a stop error. The system restarted on its own. I found in the system event viewer the following errors:

11/16/2010 4:53:50 system error (102) 1003 N/A computerName
11/16/2010 4:55:53 DCOM None 10010 SYSTEM computerName

I included the mini-dump for this. Mini111610-01.dmp

The only time I've had a stop error in the past was two weeks ago. I got new speakers, simple ones - no software included, and just plugged them in. A few minutes later the system hit a stop error and restarted. I've included that mini-dump. Mini110210-01.dmp

Between these two instances I see the following errors in the log:

system control manager 7000
system control manager 7009
browser 8032
(2) DCOM 10010

The only strange thing I'm doing - besides brazenly switching speakers - is running Virtual Box.

Can anyone give me an idea what's going on?

Answer:Error 1003, stop error, could someone look at my mini-dump?

Is this a system you built yourself or is it one built by the likes of Dell, HP, etc.?

This is an odd request, but my mom would like this and I can't figure out how. :P

Is there a way to prevent the screen from turning off when the computer is locked? She likes her lock screen images but the screen turns off after 30 seconds or so when locked. (I tried telling her to use desktop wallpaper, but she likes the lock screen better.)

Answer:Keep lock screen on (don't turn off display)

In one of my pc's whenever i hit the cap or num locks keys it displays it doing so on my monitor.

Now normally i wouldn't care much for this but not all my keyboards for my computers have those green lights that light up when i enable the caps or num lock keys.

I am guessing its something that came installed with my computer when i bought it from newegg, any idea of a similar software that i can install in my other computers.

I like it displaying on my monitor when i turn on my caps or num locks keys

Answer:On screen caps lock display?

It would help folks here to know more about the computer in question. Brand and model if it is a commercial PC (Dell, HP, etc.) and operating system, or if a home built computer the motherboard make and model, and the operating system used.

If running Windows 7, type Keyboard into the Run box, and select Keyboard from the list that appears. See if there is a Key settings option. If so, select it, and find the Key Settings List. I can't recall where exactly, but somewhere in the list you will find "Display Caps Lock status on screen" . . . make sure it is unchecked. Not sure if this will fix your issue/s or not.

What kind of keyboard are you using? The display issue might be a function of your keyboard, and you might have to adjust the behavior in any software that came with it.

Hi friends:

So I tried to find a solution, but my laptop doesnt show the on-screen display tab on the display menu. Its a Lenovo G50-80
Any fix for it?Thx ^^

Answer:G50-80 -Num Lock Shift display. How to remove it?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

With some Lenovo models the Lenovo Utility adds the on-screen display for the NUM and CAPS lock.  Although what the Lenovo Utility all does isn't well documented, I would try uninstalling that and then see if it resolves your issue.

Is there a way to change the default lock screen settings so that it displays on all monitors? For example, I have a triple monitor setup. When I hit Win + L, the lock screen only shows on the middle screen... I'd love for it to show on all three screens if possible.

Answer:Display lock screen on all three monitors?

Interesting idea, though not sure it can be done. Maybe some one will come up with a way.

I have an external monitor that I used with my Surface Pro (1). Before I upgraded, while in 8.1, the lock screen slideshow would be shown in both the SP display and the external monitor. Now that I've upgraded to 10, it would only show on the primary display which is, right now, the external monitor. Does anyone know if there's a way around this to show the slideshow in both displays?

On my Win8.1 machine, I set the lock screen display (as shown in the image) as opposed to the default one.
But sometimes after shutting down my notebook after longer periods of time, it changes back to the default lock screen display. Why is this?

When the lock screen kicks in after a certain amount of idle time, it does stay on the setting that I had chosen, but sometimes after a long periods of shutdown, booting back up the system changes the lock screen display to the default one.

I had done nothing as far as security lockdowns or anything like that.

Answer:Lock Screen Display changes to Default after shutting down

Hello win8freak,

In Windows 8 and 8.1 there are two "Lock" screens.

The user lock screen is the one that displays when a user locks the PC while still signed in to Windows, and when the user is selected on the sign in screen, times out, and returns to the lock screen. Each user is able to change their lock screen background image to an image of their choice. The default Lock screen image is the one that displays when there are no users currently signed in to Windows or selected on the sign in screen.

If this is the lock screen showing when no users are signed in, then it's the default lock screen.

So I used this walkthrough to set a setting for the lock display timeout,

This used to work fine, but now it doesn't work at all.
I recently installed a few toshiba updates, like the value added package, the system driver, service station, and hardware setup. I'm thinking a toshiba setting is overriding this somehow...anyone else have any ideas?

Hi,

What I'm trying to do is to clone my display at workstation lock and switch to internal or external display at workstation unlock depending on the user.

I found a solution in another post : Locked computer dual monitor

The method 2 described seems to match my case but I can't manage to make it work... I created the tasks but nothing happen when I do Win+L...

Here is the description of the method :

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

METHOD 2: Scheduled Triggers
This workaround involves changing the display to duplicate screens when you lock your computer and changing it back to 2 screens when you unlock it.

To do this, we'll use task scheduler to run some command lines on a trigger. The triggers will be either unlock or locking of the computer.
%windir%\System32\DisplaySwitch.exe /extend to use two screens
%windir%\System32\DisplaySwitch.exe /clone to clone the screens
or we could also use
%windir%\System32\DisplaySwitch.exe /internal to use just one screen

So lets set this up
Create the First TaskOpen the task scheduler by typing taskschd.msc into RUN or SEARCH and pressing ENTER
Right Click on Task Scheduler (Local) and select 'Create Task'
In the Create Task Window Type a Name for first the task (e.g. Single Display Lock)
Type in a description (E.g. This task is triggered when Windows is locked and changes the display to a single display)
Tick the 'Run with Highest Privilages' Box
Change the 'Configure for' drop down box to "Win... Read more

So I've been enjoying Windows 10 plenty for the most part, but I've run into my first potentially hair-tearing issue. I would like to add the Mail and Calendar apps to display more detailed information on my lock screen (simple enough, right?), however when I get to the Personalisation window to do this, I find that neither of those apps are available to add (and many others are absent as well)!!

Is anyone else experiencing this annoying problem? I'm using Windows 10 Pro, if that means anything. :P

Answer:Default apps not available to display on Lock Screen...??

From what I can tell by further Googling/looking around, this issue seems to effect several Windows 10 Pro users... Can any other Pro users verify this issue?

How do you know if the auto rotate lock is on or off?

Answer:Twist Auto Rotate Lock does not display

Hi, rfpriddy

The display for the status of the Auto Rotate function should appear in the top left of the screen. Also, this message will only display if the machine is in an orientation other than the standard laptop mode. When put into tablet or tent mode, the message should display when the button is pressed, which then lets you know whether the lock is enabled or not. If your Twist does not perform these actions, I would make sure all drivers and BIOS have been updated to see if that helps the issue.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I recently built a new computer last week. New CPU, new Mobo, new Ram, new CPU fan, new SSD, and fresh install of windows 10. Kept my old GPU and old PSU.

Part List:
PSU: RaidMax 850w https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152043
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 960 GTX
CPU: Intel - Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master - Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI - Z270-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory

Everything was up and running perfectly, incredibly fast and smooth; Drivers installed, etc. The problem I ran into within 2 hours was a video lock-up/screen freeze(cursor frozen) requiring a shut down while playing a game. After this, the computer has difficulty booting: As in No POST, No power or signal being sent to keyboard/mouse/monitor. To get it to boot again I usually have to unplug the PSU for a few minutes. But, this problem just repeats itself.

Troubleshooting:
I have been troubleshooting for 4 days. It seems the hardware is all good after testing individually. Questionable faulty motherboard/CPU as always but the products are brand new. I'm just a beginner and have built PCs in the past but I have never run into an issue like this.

How to Reproduce the Issue:
The freeze can be reproduced by playing games for 30+ minutes or running stress programs like Prime95(I read Prime95 isn't the best test, its more like CPU torture). The freeze... Read more

Hello! Since the most recent build of W-10 (9879), my caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights do not function on either computer on which I have W-10 installed (a desktop with a USB keyboard and a laptop with an integrated keyboard). The keys still work to correctly toggle the functionality, but the keyboard lights don't work. In case it matters, my keyboard's actual backlights and my mouse's internal light (not the laser, the internal LED) are working correctly, it's just the CL, NL, and SL indicators that don't function.

My HP Pavilion notebook has an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 graphics card. I have not found a Windows 8 driver for this card, but at least two older Vista drivers that I have tried will run the card.

But after installing the display driver the boot sequence proceeds normally up to the lock screen (where password information is entered) which then appears blank. There is not a way to get past the blank lock screen, and the only way out is to uninstall the display driver. After uninstalling, the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter takes over again, the lock screen appears, and is not a problem once more.

I don't think the driver is directly responsible for this, as it seems to function normally. But something causes a hang at that screen. Possibly this is where the installed driver should have started but it is late in starting, so nothing is displayed?

Hello, I have the following problem. We are using an application written in .net WPF. On our Lenovo ThinkPads (T 510) the application crashes (hangs) always after some short time of working with the application. I found out now, that the problem is the (tpnumlk.exe) process. If I kill this process everything works fine. Is there anything known about this problem? With what Tools is that exe installed? Thank you very much,Tobsel

Answer:Num Lock Display for ThinkPad (tpnumlk.exe) causes WPF Application to Crash

hey Tobsel,as far as i know, there should not be any issues if that process is killed. However, your num lock key may or may not work sporadically. For which ThinkVantage software has it, it is both the Power Management as well as the Hotkeys

Hello, I just got a lenovo carbon x1 and when the computer comes out of hibernation or sleep a symbol that says the caps lock is off appears on the screen for a few seconds. How do I stop it from telling me the caps lock is off after waking it up from sleep or hibernation? thanks

Answer:Caps lock on screen display after sleep or hibernation?

Hi Michaelalex17,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

It is a default setting which shows the ?Caps OFF? for a few seconds, because there is an option to show always or show for a few seconds, we cannot disable the individual on-screen popup display.
If you are looking for the setting. You can go to graphic properties to change, right click on the desktop and go to screen resolution ? Advance settings ? click on On-screen display tab and make the changes for your convenient.

Hope this helps!!!

I've just installed a "GateKeeper" (www.gkchain.com) which locks/unlocks the desktop based on my proximity to my desktop PC.

It works beautifully, but is a little odd when my display has gone into power saving mode whilst the desktop is locked... I approach the PC, and the desktop unlocks, and is ready for use, but the display stays blank as it is in power saving mode. I have to move the mouse (or press a key, perhaps) before I can see what I'm doing.

Is there some way to automatically bring the display out of power saving mode whenever there's a transition from locked to unlocked? I suspect this won't be possible, as there's probably no API for the power-saving mechanism. I certainly can't find any settings in power management that would control this behaviour.

Answer:Tying the display power settings with the lock/unlock functions.

No settings in GateKeeper? You can ask them if no one here knows.

I have a couple of problems at the moment...

Firstly, some time ago, the volume level display (a green indicator which came onto the screen) disappeared. I have been told that his was due to an update which needed to be done, but which for some reason got rid of the display. Short of taking off all the updates, is there any way of getting this back?

Secondly, the display lights for the caps lock and number lock have stopped coming on. The display light to show the hard disk is being written to is still working, but the other two beside it (caps lock and number lock) just stopped working. Is there some cause for this such as an update, or is it just that the bulbs have gone?????

All answers welcome!

Answer:Sat Pro L10 - Loss of Volume level display and Num/Caps lock indicators

Hi

Regarding the volume control notification on the display;
This volume level notification is controlled by software. Possibly the Microsoft updates influence this notification and therefore it doesn?t appear on the display. I presume some registry keys were changed? but I don?t know exactly what entries could be affected.

Regarding the second issue; keyboard lights;
Well, usually this has nothing to do with the installed software.
I think it could be a keyboard fault? but this is only my personal suggestion?

I don?t know how long the OS is running on your notebook but maybe it would be advisable to refresh the OS to ensure that new installation could helps to get rid of these issues.

I'm sure this is possible. Right now in my Screen Saver settings I have unchecked the "on resume, display logon screen" checkbox. In my power settings, I have set the laptop to turn off the display after being idle for 10 minutes. However, everytime the display turns off for some reason it still locks the screen. What gives!?

(system: Vista Business x86)

Answer:How to turn off display when idle, but NOT lock screen (switch users)?

There have been issues with this, and I can't remember what the solution was, but there's an extremely simple workaround (if you don't use a screen saver): set the wait time to a very high number (like 9999 minutes). It will never lock again.

Please read BSOD Posting Instructions & How to upload files
Seeing you have a 0x124 we'll need more details.

0x124 = hardware error, WHEA stands for Windows Hardware Error Architecture, it basically means that WHEA found something that was either pretending to be a hardware error or you have hardware (related => drivers, overheating, improperly seating, or BIOS) problems.
Why I write 'pretending to be a hardware error' is because there is some software known for causing this particular crash and thus letting the system think there is a hardware error, specifically Gigabyte software and pre-installed software (bloatware) that comes with a laptop are known for causing this crash although not all of them.

Answer:Dump Error

I would agree. Looks like you need to install the drivers for your sound card.

I looked at the dump files and came away with this.

Answer:I am getting this Error in Dump

For some time now, i have been experiencing that my Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking) all at the same time, I tried to google it but i can not find any solutions or explanations for it.

Does anyone know if it is bad? and what is causing this?

I am having a wired keyboard with nothing fancy just a standard issue Logitech keyboard.

Answer:Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking)

Can you toggle those functions off, one at a time? Sometimes restarting the computer will use the last state it was in, I'd fully shut down and pull the power cord from the computer and the keyboard cable then put them back and try again.

Hi,

how to disable Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages?

I have desktop pc with two keyboards usb and bluetooth. Also TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack software, but in device manager: keyboard > hid keyboard device both using microsoft drivers. And I dont have any software installed for keyboards. Also bluetooth has separate system tray indications (it is also disabled) so its not that. I made some googling and found other fix it with Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General KeyIndication set to 0, but I dont have it in registry. Acualy I dont have anywhere in registry KeyIndication. So any ideas how to disable it? Thanks

Answer:Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages

Hi,

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.
