Application Hang Associated With Adobe Flash Player

Question: Application Hang Associated With Adobe Flash Player

Hey guys,

I'm having a similar issue that the user had here: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...ayer-10-a.html

Where basically, after going to YouTube a number of times, my browser (Firefox) hangs along with other applications in Windows 7 such as: Windows Media Player, Steam, etc. This issue also occurs with Internet Explorer as well, not just Firefox. In order to use these programs again, I have to restart my computer.

This is error message I specifically receive for Firefox:

Quote:
The program firefox.exe version 1.9.2.3667 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.
Process ID: df0
Start Time: 01cab04181311ad9
Termination Time: 38
Application Path: E:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe
Report Id: 6973602b-1c59-11df-b4c0-00270e00352b

So far, to remedy this problem, I have tried:

1) Completely uninstalling and reinstalling the latest Adobe Flash Player.
2) Using CCleaner and Ashampoo to see if it was some kind of registry/program issue or whatever that could be sorted out.
3) Virus scan with Norton AV 2010 and Malwarebytes. Removed any infected items, but the problem still persists. I don't believe it's a virus or spyware because I scan regularly and it doesn't seem to affect the issue I've been having.

So my question is: is there anything I could do that I haven't done yet to try and fix this? It gets quite annoying to have to avoid flash so that I don't have to keep restarting my system.

My system specs:

Preferred Solution: Application Hang Associated With Adobe Flash Player

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey ,

since I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium x64 I'm getting a wierd problem. Sometimes my Browser ( FF 3.5 , IE8 , Opera10 ) stops responding. I have to close it via Task Manager and re-open it. When viewing a video on youtube , it stops responding immediately.
I cannot use Windows Media Player , ICQ , Skype or any Internet Browser until I reboot. The event history is only giving me a " 1002 - Application Hang ".

I think it has something to do with Adobe Flash Player. If I uninstall , the problem goes away - but I cannot live without Adobe Flash

My Problem is very similar to another one from this board :

http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/32597-browser-application-hang.html

I also tried uninstalling the Flash Player and reinstall it - but it doesn't help.

My System :

2GB Geil Ultra DDR2-800 CL4
ATI HD4850 512M
Cosair VX450W PSU

We have IE 6. Say a user goes to MSN.com. The ad on the right is a Flash object. Some of our users will see that object flickering when scrolling up or down on the page or when hovering their mouse over it. It's quite annoying. Almost all users are running Adobe Flash Player 9, but I think I've seen this happen on systems with Macromedia Flash Player 8 as well. Other systems don't have the problem. I've seen this happen on one system and not another while both seemed to have the same Flash objects installed.

Uninstalling all Flash players using Adobe's prescribed Flash Player uninstall tool seems to work at first, but users later complain again. Note that they just about always end up installing Flash Player 9 again, because sites ask for it. I don't believe I've seen this on any XP systems at all, including my own, but most of our users have Win2K.

Does anybody know why this happens or how to permanently fix it?

Thanks,
Hotshot309

Answer:Ie 6 - Flash Objects Flickering - Using Adobe Flash Player 9 Activex R28 (shockwave Flash Object V. 9.0.28.0)

More info: Adobe Flash Player 9, Macromedia Flash Player 8, and Macromedia Flash Player 10 all produce the same result--Flash objects that flicker when you put your mouse over any part of them. Moving Flash objects will flicker constantly while moving and stop flickering when the animation is done. SWF files (at least the one at www.stormwerks.com/linked/stuf/AYB2.swf) work without a problem when using Adobe Flash Player 9.

If I don't have Adobe Flash Player 9 installed, the Win2K machines prompt me to install them for almost any site that uses Flash (I guess most recent Flash objects cannot be viewed with the older Macromedia Flash Players).

Any suggestions?

To completely uninstall and remove Adobe Flash Player from your Windows computer, use Adobe Flash Uninstaller.
Download it by clicking here.
Next, close all your programs including your browsers and run Adobe Flash Uninstaller. It executes on both 64-bit and 32-bit version of the Windows operating systems.
Delete all the files in this folder: C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\FlashC:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash%appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player%appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player
Once you do this, restart your computer.
Open your browser and check the status of Flash Player by going here.

This pop-up is driving me crazy! It pops up on the video screen I want to watch in Fox News website -- I haven't noticed it popping up on other sites as yet. It will list the site asking for permission to store information on my computer. The link I have attached below gives instructions on how to remove this pop-up. Is this flash player thing safe or is it some kind of virus or malware? The attached link refers to it as spyware. If I were to remove the Flash player program, will it affect playing games or whatever on my laptop. I need help, please.

I am having a problem with Adobe Flash Player. I did an uninstall using an uninstaller provided at another forum and a Reboot and a reinstall and Reboot.
The programs that are on my notebook, XP sp2 that were the New Reinstall are:
Adobe Shockwave Player Vers. 10.1.4.20
Adobe Flash Player Activex 9.0.45.0

I am trying to get the Video to work at the following news site (the audio works); the site is:
http://www.aptn.ca/streaming/

I don't know if I have the whole Adobe Flash Player program or something is missing??

I did the clean reinstall b/c I thought that the existing Flash Player might be corrupt.
But this has made no change. All I get is a green window and Audio????

I am wondering if anyone has encountered such a problem before??? I simply don't know anything about Adobe or streaming.

Thankyou for your time.

Answer:Adobe Shockwave player/Adobe Flash Player Activex

Hi, I have got all the latest software on my notebook too. MediaPlayer, Quicktime, Realplayer, Flash, Shockwave, Firefox, IE, etc, etc.

The video wont work for me on the site either, with FireFox or IE. i think its a problem with the site. Maybee a few others can go on and confirm that. If not im in the same boat! I doubt it though as I dont have any problems with media on any other sites.

Answer:Adobe flash player Adobe flash player active x

Adobe Flash Player has several variants for different operating systems and browsers and is now on version 11.9.  The active-x variant is used with Windows Internet Explorer.  There is another Windows variant for plugin based browsers, such as Firefox.  There are variants for Mac OS X and Linux, although the last version produced for Linux was 11.2.

If I click the quick start icon, the icon is highlighted for maybe three seconds and then is no longer highlighted. Upon looking at the task manager, I see the process being started and then disappearing from the list. It stays in the task manager for the same duration as the quick start icon is highlighted. Hi,

My friend recently asked me to help her download some music video flv files from the website MTVIggy. I normally use Orbit Downloader for saving flv's I like from youtube but it doesn't seem to work on this site. I've tried a program called Replay Media Catcher but ut also doesn't work. Does anyone know of a program/tool that is actually capable of downloading the flv files from MTVIggy?

Thank you for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

Answer:How to record rtmp:// flash video .flv stream from embedded Adobe Flash Player

As the site is owned by Viacom/MTV, my guess is that it is DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected and videos can't be downloaded. I normally use Real Player when I need to download embedded videos but I don't think it will work and I'm not aware of a free product that will download DRM protected videos.

I uninstalled Adobe Flash with their uninstall tool because I read somewhere you needed to update it because of major security flaw. I went over to the Adobe website to try and find an update, as well as a tutorial on how to update, as I had no idea what version I had. Their website is a mess unless you want to purchase something, and then you can find whatever your want. Since I had no idea what version of player, I just DL their uninstall tool, then DLed their new flash. I used their uninstall tool, and then reinstalled the new Adobe Flash Player. The only PU that came up was that it couldn't install in Opera. I went looking to try and configure it, then I read in the post below, you had to go to the link, http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/ for shockwave, and figured it would lead me to flash and all that crap. I remembered what a PIA it was. I went over there, and it says flash works, but I still don't know if it's the latest flash or not. On the right it says I need to install "other sw", but that probably because I don't have shockwave installed. BTW, when I used their uninstaller from an administrator account, it completely wiped out my FX profile in the limited user account for some reason. It didn't do anything to the FX profiles in the administrator's accounts. I keep an updated copy of the limited user account's FX profile, and just reinstalled it, but I'm sick and tired of adobe flash and all the BS your have ... Read more

Answer:Adobe Flash uninstall tool,& is there a better/safer flash player w/o the hassles?

The flash player for IE and Firefox is in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash. The IE one is called Flash9f.ocx and for Firefox its NPSWF32.dll.

You can view current version, by going to a page with a flash object on the web page, right click on the Flash object and select About Adobe Flash Player 9 and it will take you to Adobe site and display version.
You can also get version from the files about on the Version or Details tab of its properties.

As for removal, just either use the Uninstall tool in the same folder (See above) or delete all the files in the folder to remove it.

Should I uninstall Macromedia Flash Player in the "add/remove" section of control panel if I have Adobe Flash Player 10 active X already installed as well? This is confusing...do they do they perform the exact same function?

Answer:Both Adobe Flash Player & Macromedia Flash Player?

Macromedia was purchased by Adobe.
Before you remove it, find the Macromedia folder and right click the exe, if you see one, check the properties to see what version it is.

It might simply be an old version of flash from before Adobe purchased it.

I'm not sure if removing/uninstalling Macromedia flash will break anything, like an old game you might run.
So my advice is to copy everything from the Macromedia folder before you uninstall it. If something is broken, put it back exactly where it was. Be sure you right down the full path of the folder.

Not sure where this should end up,but I'm sure it will be guided to the correct forum,as always.
After doing quite a bit of reading today,I decided that the Adobe PDF viewer is a resource hog. I uninstalled any traces of it I could find in my add/remove programs part of my pc. Just a few minutes ago while reading another post here at BC, I discovered I had to install Adobe Flash player to view an article thru YouTube.
My question is how does flash differ from the pdf viewer? They're both an Adobe thing, right?

I opted to download a small viewer called Sumatra,by the way.

Thanks

It's a different product and unlike Adobe Reader, there are no alternatives for Flash.

Hello Xian,

I'm not sure why the Flash movie won't run for you.

Flash updates are now handled by Microsoft through regular Windows updates. As far as I know, that's the only way to update Flash in Windows 8. You'll have to wait until Microsoft releases an update.

My Win7 64 bit desktop and laptop both run Adobe Flash 11.3.300.257 but a gaming friend has a Flash 10.1 release on her Dell Laptop. I'll have her try to update to Flash 10.3 if she can on Adobe's site, but I have a question: is she maybe using 32 bit windows and that's why her Flash client is different than mine? I thought maybe at first it might be a desktop/laptop thing but then I checked my latter and nixed that hypothesis. So is Flash client 10 for 32 bit or why would 10 be on a windows o/s computer instead of the latest client like mine? If it's not a 32/64 bit thing, should she not be able to update from Flash 10 to Flash 11? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Adobe Flash Player

Adobe Flash Player...and Java...and Windows...all are updated routinely in an effort to provide the best known security to user systems.Users who do not update either of these...is behind the power curve re minimizing system vulnerabilities, since many (if not all) of these updates are pushed out in response to known vulnerabilities.Using an older version or ignoring critical updates...is analogous to parking/leaving your car in downtown New York city and leaving the car keys in, with Windows rolled down, IMO.Louis

Question: Adobe Flash Player

I was just curious. My mom just got a new computer it runs World of Warcraft very very good. But when she plays Farmville 2 it is very very slow. The Internet connection is great I notice though when I run the farmville on her computer there is 2 Adobe Flash Players on the task manager. Is that normal? Could that be the problem?

Question: Adobe flash player

In Win 7 I got a warning to upgrade my adobe flash player to the new version 10... I used their uninstaller to get rid of the old one I had and downloaded the new version. The problem is that the file I downloaded is an installation program that when I go and run it the choice to install is greyed out and the only other choice is exit. How do I get it to install the new version in the right location? I don't even get a program to manually install it in the Macromedia portion where it is suppose to go. Anyone else experience this, and come up with a solution? Paul

Answer:Adobe flash player

As far as I know, the Flash player comes as a plugin that installs in your browser with an Active X version for IE and a different one for all other browsers. If by 'installation program' you mean you got an .exe file from the Adobe site, it's likely that you have the non Active X version. Some sites do offer an .exe version for IE but, if you go to the Adobe site using IE, you will be offerred the correct version and the installation is done while you are online via the Adobe Download Manager (which uninstalls at the next reboot).

Have a look at the Adobe Troubleshooter and see if anything in it helps with your problem; http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html

I got a new computer (Intel 2 Quad Core 4 w/ 4GB of RAM, 64-bit, Vista Home Premium). I can't install Adobe Flash Player because it's 64-bit, so I can't view YouTube videos or even things on many sites.

The Adobe site states:

Adobe Flash Player is not supported for playback in a 64-bit browser. However, you can run Flash Player in a 32-bit browser running on a 64-bit operating system.

Adobe is working on Flash Player support for 64-bit platforms as part of our ongoing commitment to the cross-platform compatibility of Flash Player. We expect to provide native support for 64-bit platforms in an upcoming release of Flash Player following Flash Player 10.

Do any of you have a link of how to install the version of Adobe that I can get on my computer? If I do this, I can easily upgrade when the right verion comes out for my system, right?

Any info will be appreciated!

Answer:No Adobe Flash Player for 64-bit OS?

Hi -

Adobe really missed the boat on this one.

The work around for this is to run IE7 x86 - not the x64 version.

Click on start | type internet - select the "Internet Explorer" that has no wording after it. This is IE7 x86 (32-bit). See if this resolves your problem.

IE7 x86 will run everything you need under x64.

The announcement I saw suggests that this version (10.3.181.16) is to 'fix certain problems with the software rendering on Internet Explorer 9', but I have been able to install it in my version of IE 8. I haven't seen any official Adobe documents yet, so it isn't clear whether this is considered to be a 'security' issue.

The version for non Active X browsers (10.3.181.14) doesn't seem to be affected.

I updated Flash Player per instuctions by uninstalling old, rebooting, installing new, rebooting. Adobe web site verifys it is insatlled on my PC. When I try to play a video sometimes it starts, sometimes not. Some times I can get the video to play by refreshing the screen several times. Most times the video plays for about 3 secs then hangs up. XP Home, IE 8, Adobe Flash 10.1.
I have read some forums that say IE 8 and Flash 10.1 not compatiblew. I tried going back to older version of Flash still no good.
I have another PC with the same setup and Flash works okay.
What am I missing?

Answer:Adobe Flash player 10.1

Well...I don't see logically...how you singled out Flash as the problem.

As for compatibility between IE8 and Flash 10.1...I've had both installed for some time, with no indication of "incompatibility". The fact that you have a PC that works with same setup...well, it reflects badly on any credibility of the incompatibility theory, IMO.

I'd take a look in Event Viewer for errors...and I'd ensure that I had all XP critical updates installed.

Question: Adobe Flash Player

Hi Guys. Every time I open a new window or open my emails, I get a message that Adobe Flash Player needs to be loaded, so I accept.

I have Adobe loaded so why am I asked to continue to load, It's getting to be a real newsence.

Thanks for your help.

Answer:Adobe Flash Player

I might be wrong...but...

Loading...is not the same thing as installing.

As part of system security, I get messages anytime a website has code which suggests Flash, with the option of allowing it to run or not run. On some pages, it doesn't make a difference, on some...the links won't work unless Flash is enabled.

Ditto for ActiveX.

FWIW, quote from Wiki:

"Symantec's Internet Security Threat Report[62] states that a remote code execution in Adobe Reader and Flash Player[63] was the second most attacked vulnerability in 2009. The same report also recommends to employ browser add-ons wherever possible to disable Adobe Flash Player when visiting untrusted sites. McAfee predicts that Adobe software, especially Reader and Flash, will be the primary target for attacks in 2010[64]. Adobe applications had already become the most popular client-software targets for attackers during the last quarter of 2009[65]."

I use Windows XP Home.

Answer:Adobe Flash Player.

Look through the advice here;http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html and check if anything helps you. See particularly the section headed 'Progress bar hangs during download / Unable to connect to server / Unable to download metafile'

If I were in your shoes I would run the Adobe uninstaller mentioned in the Troubleshooter and then download the plugins from the direct links in the section I refer to above (unless you only use Internet Explorer, in which case you only need the Active X version). These are .exe files which you doubleclick on to install, so they don't need any of the automated online stuff that isn't working for you.

It's your choice but, if you create a system restore point before doing anything, you should at least be able to get back to where you are now if things don't go well!

Question: Adobe Flash Player

My Computer will not allow me to install Flash Player, I have tried, and I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it multiple times, and it still wont let me download or use it.  This is bad because most things on the internet now require Adobe Flash Player.  I have also adjusted security settings on my computer.  Is this a virus?

Answer:Adobe Flash Player

Download the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2Then, install fresh copy.

Question: Adobe Flash Player

I have Flash Player Activex 10, which I believe is the latest version.I am using IE 6, have a Radeon 9200 graphics card, 3GHz Intel Pentium 4 HT.Although some application require ver 10, some programs stop altogether, and when I use Add-On Manager, it shows that Flash 10 is enabled - and I assume that this is causing the problem. I find it difficult to understand why the latest version should cause a program. If I disable Flash 10, some streaming videos just show black. Is it normal to disable then enable Flash 10 for different applications?geedad

Answer:Adobe Flash Player

You did remove all previous versions of Flashplayer first before installing 10 ?Reason being it will not plug the security flaws of earlier versions.click here

I have searched the web for answers to this problem but have not found anything related to it which makes me believe this problem is unique to me. It is not an easy problem to totally explain, but here is generally what is happening with a couple of examples.

1) I go to web sites with video's such as YOU TUBE and IMDB. If I try to start a video, a new window in the upper leftcorner appears with the video. There seems to be no controls on the window that actually work.

2) To add to the problem the window seems to be trying to play other videos and everything flashes in and out.

3) Other websites that seem to use Flash Player will produce a small video at the left of the screen and as I scroll down, the video jumps down as well. It to is not playing right as it seem like it is pushing through a popup blocker or something.

It reminds me of Star Trek when something similar happens to them. I love Star Trek. I hate flash player. If there was another probram I could use I would. My computer is fairly new with Windows 7 64 bit and I do not have any exoctic programs on it.

It is driving me crazy. It seem to start when I updated the FLASH PLAYER last. I did remove it and of course, no pop up videos, but also of course, no videos at all. This would say that it is a problem with flash player which is causing it or can not stop it.

Hope somene can figure this one out for me.

It would be nice if Adobe had a help system. They have technical support but they charge for that or ... Read more

Answer:Adobe flash player 10 - pop ups

I'm not sure what's going on with 1 and 2 but 3 sounds like a flash advertising or info window and it moves down a page as you scroll so you can't get away from it. Its very annoying.
For 1 and 2 I can only suggest you try the Chrome browser and see if its still wonky or not.

Question: Adobe Flash Player

Pleeeaase someone help me. I'm working on my 12th hour straight with no accomplishments. I have Windows XP, IE (6?). Problem... Adobe flash player only works with 1 out of 3 users on the computer. When I go to mycokerewards.com with one user, the flash player works. On the other 2 users (on the same computer) to the same site and a few others, it doesn't work. I've been to the Adobe website, tried all of their solutions, no fix. I've gon to softwarepatch.com, uninstalled and installed numerous times (yes, I made sure the web browser was closed and nothing else was open and rebooted with each operation), no fix. I've checked internet security setting on all users... (download signed active x :prompt, run active x controls & plug-ins :prompt), all users have the same settings. I've even used a registry cleaner. That did wonders, but it didn't fix my flash player problem. A couple of weeks ago, this wasn't an issue. Yesterday it wouldn't work. Does anyone have any solutions... Please help me...

Answer:Adobe Flash Player

Are the other accounts on your computer limited or do they have administrative rights? I know this is stupid BUT it won't work unless you have admin rights. It may work with a power user but I am not sure if it will.

Curious....Flash Player 10.2 keeps popping up periodically (every few days) and says it needs to download/install an update. When I agree, the update is always version 10.2. It appears to download/install and everything seems fine, then a day or two or three passes and it does it all over again. This happens on more than one of my machines.

Answer:Adobe Flash Player 10.2
