After dual monitor sleep recovery, all apps shift to one monitor

Question: After dual monitor sleep recovery, all apps shift to one monitor

Whenever my computer recovers from sleep mode, or when the screensaver comes on and I wake it up, I find that all my apps are now on my main monitor.

Example: Google Chrome and Skype on Monitor 1.
Microsoft Word and MSI Afterburner on Monitor 2.

-computer sleeps/ screen saver turns on-
-I wake the computer up-

Google Chrome, Skype, Microsoft Word, and MSI Afterburner are on Monitor 1.
Nothing on Monitor 2.

Is it possible to fix this?

Specs
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Using DisplayFusion Pro v5.0.1 to extend my taskbar to the second monitor.

GPU: r9 290
CPU: i5 4670k @ 4.2 Ghz
Mobo: ASUS z87 sabertooth TUF series
PSU: Corsair TX-CMPSU 650W

Preferred Solution: After dual monitor sleep recovery, all apps shift to one monitor

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: After dual monitor sleep recovery, all apps shift to one monitor

I've had dual monitors for years now and have never had this problem. But I also have no screen saver.

If you put your system to sleep why would you want a screen saver? All that does is keep the system active and running - which is the opposite of what sleep does.

Remove the scree saver and see what happens.

I have HP Desktop Tower Pavilion with windows 10, I had two HP S2031 monitors in dual mode, worked fine. One of them died, I got a good deal on a larger HP 27er monitor.  I hooked it up, they were both working fine ... it was using a default monitor
setting ... and then yesterday the computer downloaded some updates, and in doing so, it downloaded the driver for the HP 27er and installed.  The next thing that happens is the older HP S2031 starts to go dark ... like it is going into sleep mode, and
then it is totally black.  On reboot, it starts up with both monitors working, but within seconds of reboot the HP S2031 goes black again. The HP S2031's buttons do nothing, other than the power button, which turns it off and on, but that is it.
I have done all troubleshooting, I did not even have them set up to sleep, all settings are at NEVER.  In coming here, I have done all the fixes I can find for similar  that are posted for similar issues, the Windows Key + W... nothing.
The create new power plan ... nothing.  the device manger>display adapters>disable then enable ... nothing.  and lastly Start>Control Panel>System>Device Manager>display adapter>driver tap>update ... still nothing.  HOW
DO I GET THE HP S2031 MONITOR TO NOT BE IN SLEEP AND HAVE BLACK SCREEN.  I can not figure this out and am not finding any fix.

I recently switched to a dual monitor set up using my LapTop/Docking Station and 2 Monitors. (I added a second monitor to my Docking Station and closed the Laptop Screen.)

I previously used a Monitor and my Laptop Screen. (The Monitor was set as Primary, and the Laptop screen as Secondary. The Monitor was set to the Sub-D on the Docking Station.)

When I had the Monitor/Laptop setup -all open applications and desktop icons stayed in place. With the two monitor set up, the applications open on my Secondary Monitor move to the Primary after Waking Up, and the Desktop icons on my Primary shift around. (I have to drag everything back...)

This is annoying, please assist...

Dell Laptop (Latitiude, 32OS Intel Core i5 2540M CPU)
Viewsonic VX2240w (Primary Monitor) VDI
Dell E1911 (Secondary Monitor) Sub-D

Thanks for the Support

Answer:Dual Monitor issue after Sleep, Secondary Screen Apps move to Primary

Have you tried disabling the laptop monitor entirely? Also, try setting your icons up as you prefer, then doing a full reboot.

I am looking for a program that will allow me to put my primary monitor <21" LCD Monitor> to sleep while watching video on the second monitor <27" LED TV>. I like to watch streaming vids on my larger monitor and would like to have my Primary go to sleep. I realize I can shut it off, but would like to avoid that. I have searched the net and all the programs I found will only send BOTH to sleep. Key to this is I have to be able to use the mouse still while the main ignores this, so it would have to use the keyboard to wake the monitor.

I realize that I am asking alot, but I am just surprised no one has come up with a way to do so, or maybe I was just to lame to find it. :-D

Thanks in advanced for any help anyone is willing to give.

I am having a rather large issue with Windows 10. For some reason when I plug in my HDMI for my 2nd monitor all of the icons and the taskbar immediately shift to that monitor. This is because I have it set as the "primary" monitor, but I want the taskbar and icons to stay where they were originally on my laptop screen even when I plug in the secondary monitor, can anyone offer any advice on how to fix this issue?

Hi,  I'm trying to setup dual monitor for my lenovo T61P laptop. I want to use one external monitor which is connected to my Thinkpad docking station and the laptop lcd monitor. I'm using windows vista x64. Does any one else have it setup this way? When I connect the laptop to the docking station, only the external  monitor displays data. I've tried going into desktop settings to extend my desktop but only one monitor is present. Please help. I've spent an entire two days playing with BIOS settings, searching forums....

Answer:T61P - dual monitor with docking station (laptop lcd monitor) and one external monitor

This started working fine when I installed the video drivers below: Display (NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M / Quadro FX 570M) driver for Windows Vista 64-bit - ThinkPadhttp://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67939  It looks like I had installed the wrong video drivers (32-bit)  previously. Now fn+F7 works fine and I am able to extend my desktop to mulple monitors (dual-monitor).

I just bought two ASUS monitors. When I start the computer, I see the ASUS logo on both monitors. When it boots into windows, one goes to sleep automatically. Short of performing the next step, nothing I can do can wake up that monitor.  If I unplug
the "working" monitor, it forces the other monitor to "wake up". I can then plug the monitor back in and both monitors work.
How can I get it to where I don't have to unplug and re-plug the monitor in so both monitors work.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi I wanted to use my CRT TV as a second monitor and connected it to my Computer using an 'S' connector.I have an NVIDIA 5500 Card with TV Out. so I ran the Cable from this to my TV.I then Selected Clone mode to get the same picture on my Monitor and my TV the problem is while my Monitor works fine and displays in color my TV only displays in Black and White. So how do I get my TV to display in Color when connected to my Computer.Note: The TV works fine for normal TV reception its just that it won't display in Color when using it as an additional Monitor.

Answer:Dual Monitor Problem TV+Monitor (Clone mode) Monitor (OK) TV (No Color)

You will alway struggle with a cathode screen. You need to really have a T.V that has a VGA port. Which generally means spending money. My tv is a Sony Bravia with a VGA port and it works perfect but I had to spend the money to get it.

Hi folks. New here.  Sorry if this has  been asked/answered, but I searched and didn't find it. My company got me this great new W500 laptop.  Came with minidock and external monitor. I have the monitor plugged into the minidock, and have it to the right of the laptop. Laptop is monitor #2, and external LCD display is #2.  works great.  UNTIL.... If I lock the console, and fold the laptop monitor closed (to have it power off - i.e. at lunch break, etc...) When I come back, the external monitor is now monitor #1 (has the windows task bar, Start menu, etc...) and it thinks the laptop monitor is monitor #2.  I can't figure out how to switch them back without rebooting.  It's very frustrating, b/c the 'sides' are swapped too.  Meaning the external LCD display which is physically to the right, is "on the left" as far as Windows is concerned, so if I drag the mouse off-screen to the right of the external display, it arrives on the left side of the laptop (which is physically to the left). Is there a simple solution to this?  I can't live with having to reboot every time I lock my monitor. I'm using Windows XP if that makes a difference.

Answer:Dual Monitor issue. Lock console & external monitor becomes monitor #1

more information... It's the 'advanced minidock' with keys. The monitor is connected via the DVI port, not the plain old VGA port.

I'm using a Radeon 9600XT with dual monitors. When I ran my old nvidia card, i could right click the taskbar on an application, and choose to send it to monitor 1 or 2. There is no such feature with my Radeon card. Does anyone know what software I would need to be able to do this, I've researched Hydravision on the net, but it appears to be only used for multiple desktops on one monitor.

I've recently updated from Windows 7 to Windows 8 on my Dell XPS 15 laptop. I normally run a dual monitor setup with my 33" monitor and I am quite fond of watching netflix on the secondary monitor while gaming/doing school work/blogging/reading news/etc... however I'm noticing two things that I would like help with:

1) there is no way to run Netflix on the non primary monitor.

2) there is no way to allow the netflix app to keep playing while running another program (non app). It just exits out.

Are there app settings to get around either or both of these? Some help, please!

Thanks!

alliemdb

Answer:Issues running apps with Dual Monitor Set Up

can you describe your monitor? is it VGA? is it HDCP compliant? the Windows Store Netflix app requires that the graphics card driver AND the monitor be HDCP-compliant. VGA is considered an "unsafe" connection (unsafe in that the contents can be copied) and most VGA monitors are not HDCP-compliant. And none of the old VGA monitors are considered HDCP-compliant. Part of the reason why VGA monitors are extinct in this new DRM world.

in fact, this HDCP compliancy is breaking a lot of systems that have older VGA monitors where the streaming content is encrypted and fail to start. If you have DVI or HDMI displays, they are most likely HDCP compliant and you see less people having issues with Windows Store apps with these monitors.

I have a 3 monitor system. 2 of them are DVI and the other is VGA. I can choose any to be the primary display and have Netflix on any of the other monitors. However, on the VGA monitor, the Windows Store Netflix app will not run any material. The app will run and I can choose the show. But when it gets near 100%, it stops at the security checkpoint and errors out. With a web browser or with Windows Media Center, the VGA restriction is less (likely because copying the content is less than desirable from these sources) and they will allow the content to play.

Windows Media Center is the best way to play Netflix on a VGA monitor. Especially if you have a nice Windows Media Center remote. You can browse Netflix like a TV.

Hi all,
I've had this issue for some time now, it was bearable at times but now is getting worse. I have two monitors, an oldish SONY SDM-S95DR and an LG FLATRON W2252TQ. Since upgrading from XP to WIN 7, the monitors go to sleep whenever or have strange behavior. On startup one or both may stay in standby, when turning on a usb device, one or both may go to standby, while playing a game or even when pressing CTRL-ATL-DEL. I know your first thought might be the grpahics card drivers, I can assure you I have always had the latest ones installed. Recently I upgraded my CPU, MOBO and RAM with a clean WIN 7 installation and the problem is worst than ever. I'm constantly having to plug in and out the cables behind the case to get them to work. My GPU is a GIGABYTE geforce GTX260. I thought of upgrading it as well, to bring it up to speed with the rest of the setup, also hoping that it would solve the dual monitor issue.
Any ideas would be very welcome.
thanks

Instructions...
Install a video card capable of outputting to two or more screens, if necessary.
Connect each monitor to an available output. Plug in the monitor and turn it on.
In the case of a laptop, connect a single monitor to the laptop's VGA or HDMI port, depending on your laptop configuration and monitor type.
Press and hold the Windows logo key.
Press the "P" key twice to enter monitor extended mode. This creates two independent displays where you can have separate application windows open on each monitor.
Release the Windows logo key.

Answer:Dual monitor setup - going to sleep whenever!

It seems, because at the moment I cannot think of any other reason why this is happening, it might well be a power issue. But as I say I am a little stumped.
How are you connecting your monitors to the GPU?
Your card can, with out a doubt, handle dual monitors. Can you unplug one of them and run it for a day and see how it behaves, then the other one and swap which connector you use?
The card might well be failing but try my suggestion and post back

I am using a 22" screen for my primary screen and the laptop lid open for a secondary screen. The main screens resolution is 1680x1050, I can set it to anything I want and it's always using the full screen. The laptop screen on the other hand will only use the full screen if it's at 1400x1050 resolution (max for that screen, IBM Thinkpad T43). With the large 22" screen I have no trouble reading the screen at high resolutions, the screen is huge, with the little 14" screen though I have to strain to read the screen at 1400x1050.

The problem is when I set the laptop screen to anything lower than 1400x1050, it uses less of the screen. Preferrably I want it at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 (I dont know which I want yet as I can't see the freaking screen at that resolution). At 1280x1024 for instance the useable screen is just a box in the middle, so the "1280x1024" is still barely readable for me cause it's shrunk from full screen, plus it's just annoying only using a portion of the screen.

I have played with the ATI Control Center, the Thinkpad display settings and windows display settings and just cannot get this thing to go full screen at lower resolutions when docked and using the external monitor.

Anyway to resolve this?

i've got a minor issue where some apps choose to launch on the secondary screen, rather than my primary. i believe it is because my secondary is actually to the left of the primary (it is a TV that is physically to the left of me). is there a way to tell apps which screen to launch in? i'd rather have all my apps launch on the primary display.

Answer:dual-monitor: apps starting in secondary screen instead of primary

Vista goes screwy with this sometimes - but mostly, I have noticed, when I run WMC and it opens in the window that the app is in.

Try running WMC on your TV so that it forces the app to the other 'monitor' and then hit the start button on your KB, freeing your mouse from WMC, and then go to the other monitor and close the app(s). Then close WMC and see if the app opens back on the TV or in the monitor.

This may be a bug in ATI video drivers but I am not sure. After waking up the computer from sleep with two displays setup, monitor 1 does not wake up. Unpluging monitor 2 from PC results in monitor 1 to wake up.

Answer:Monitor 1 in dual display mode not waking up after SLEEP

Yes, it's likely to be a driver problem. If you can download the driver to the desk, rightclick it for 'troubleshoot compatibility' and choose the Vista driver.Rating posts helps other users

For years I have had dual monitors working fine in my Win 7 machine. Then a few months ago I started having problems when the computer turn on or wakes from sleep mode. The primary monitor turns on then switches off after a second. The only remedy is to
turn off the monitor, turn on, and repeat until finally the monitor stays awake.

I have tried shutting down the computer and starting using the system restore disk - the monitor does not come on.
I tried installing a replacement video card (and turning off the motherboard video support) the problem is the same. This indicates it is not the video driver or physical video chip.

Severity: A

When waking up from sleep mode with a dual monitor setup, the computer does not display anything either monitor and has to be manually shut down. The problem does not seem related to motherboard settings such as Wake-On PCI-E, Spread Spectrum, or changing the suspend mode between S1/S3/S1 & S3. The cause of this problem began from a video card upgrade from a BFG 7600GT to an Asus HD4850.

The problem can be repeated with the following steps:
1.) Load Windows Vista after shutdown and don't log into a user account
2.) Wait at the login screen and then time 15-30 seconds before pressing the power button (assigned to sleep on press)
3.) Wait 15-30 seconds before pressing the power button again
4.) If computer woke-up, check off success on paper and repeat steps 2-3. If not, follow to step 5.
5.) Hold the power button and shut down the computer manually. Logged how many tries before it "craps out" from wake-up.

My Win7 64-bit Lenovo Laptop has 2 Paviion 27xi montors connected via DVI.  The primary monitor will go to sleep after my defined 15 minutes BUT it will wakeup every 30 seconds and flash the monitor's "Going to sleep" message.  The 2nd monitor stays a asleep until keyboard or mouse activity really wakes the system up.  I have applied the latest driver version 2.0 released in 02/2014 and the monitor's perpetual "going to sleep" message continues to flash on screen every 30 seconds.  Please advise if you have a solution.  I want and need the monitors to go to sleep automatically after 15 minutes and stay asleep.  So suggesting that I disable the monitor sleep function is not a viable solution.  I feel it is a bug in HP's driver, but who knows, there may be a setting that can solve this too.  (My previous dual DVI Dell monitors behaved nicely and did not perptually wake up the primary monitor like the HP's are exhibiting.)

This is easily verified simply switch your inputs make the secondary the primary and vise versa, if the issue persists over to the secondary monitor it is a driver if it does not then it is hardware. If it is the driver I would suggest you try reinstalling the driver from the HP My Display driver page for the HP Pavilion 27xi 27-inch Diagonal IPS LED Backlit Monitor. If is not the driver, but the monitor itself I think it would be best if you contacted HP technical support for repair options.US support link to contact options for HP products purchased in the US.Outside of US support link to contact options for HP products purchased outside the US.I would like to thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Running Win10 AU x64 with dual monitors connected to an nVidia Quadro K2200 video card running the latest 369.09 nVidia driver. My desktop extends across the two monitors and I'm using the standard Windows 10 blank screen save after 10 minutes of inactivity. Both monitors blank ok - the problem is that when I use the mouse or keyboard to bring the monitors out of screen save, all the applications that had their windows open on the RH monitor when screen save activated have been moved to the LH (primary) monitor, and I have to shift them back to the RH monitor.

This doesn't happen every single time, but it happens about two thirds of the time. Any suggestions on what to look for or how to remedy the problem?

The LH monitor is an Eizo EV3237 connected via displayport and the RH monitor a Dell U3011 connected via DVI.

Answer:Screen save w/dual monitors: apps all move to LH monitor on resume

Nick, this has been a topic of discussion on several threads here. What seems to work for some people does not work for others. I run 3 monitors and really do not have a problem with them moving. What I do is right click the desktop and select view, then uncheck 'Align Icons to Grid'. I then arrange the icons where I want them. Then I go back and check the 'Align icons to grid'. that works well for me, but not for others. It will change like yours occasionally, but that is always when I have a program lock up or have to do a hard shutdown, which is very rare for me.

I know I have see third party software mentioned to resolve this problem. I have never used third party software for that, so can't tell you anything about them.

Every time I try to recover from sleep mode, the monitor light flashes, but nothing appears on the display. I haven't had the patience to wait for it recover (if ever), but have rebooted to Safe Mode, then rebooted again. From Google search results, it's clear that this is a common problem in Vista x64 with a variety of systems running dual monitor displays. (I have a Matrox M9120 PCIe x16 graphics card.) See:

I have been using my T60 notebook with a monitor for six months with no problems.  Now all of a sudden all I get on the monitor is a black screen with the message "Monitor in sleep mode.  Press any key or move mouse."  Sometimes I will get the message "Monitor in Power Save Mode.  Press any key or move mouse."  When I press a key or move the mouse nothing happens.  Rebooting or reconnecting the monitor dosent change any thing.  I feel there is a setting some where that has changed but I have not been able to find it.  I also checked the monitor on a friends notebook and it works fine.  Does anyone have any ideas.

Answer:Can't get Monitor out of Sleep Mode on my T60 notebook plus monitor system.

You may need to go into Control Panel, Device Manager, Properties and check the "Allow this device to wake the computer" box. Do this for both the mouse and keyboard.

Intel HD4000 graphic chip and Nvidia Optimus/ I previously had 2 20" monitors with a 1680x1050 resolution using DVI-to-DVI. They both worked fine. I upgraded to 2 24" monitors with a 1920x1200 resolution. The laptop is not recognizing the second monitor. I have tried:dual display port (dock side) to mini display port (monitor side): only 1 monitor recognizeddual dvi (dock side) to HDMI (monitor side): only 1 monitor recognizedI ruled out monitor and cable problems by swapping...each by itself works fine. Looking up specs, I believe this resolution should be supported by DP or DVI. Can anybody confirm that this is a supported config? Any ideas what is wrong? UPDATE - I did try 1 DP/mDP and 1 DVI/HDMI: this does work. However, its not an ideal solution because it would interfere with the monitors ports which I want to use for a second PC. UPDATE 2 - OK, now I am beyond aggrivated. I also have a support ticket w/ Lenovo where they suggested switching to Integrated Graphics only in the BIOS. I tried that, no luck. After changing that setting back, i tried to get my 1 DP / 1 DVI working, but now it would not recognize dual monitors. ??? After some testing, I'm finding that the -only- setup that works is the following: Dock DVI port 1 to Moni... Answer:Second monitor not detected: T430s with Mini Dock Plus Series 3 dual external monitor

Fixed; was a driver issue. Problem seems exclusive to a Dell u2415 on DP port 1 only of the dock or to the laptop's DP port (at least for the couple monitors I tried). It's possible it could affect other monitors. My starting point: 9.18.13.4535 / 9.17.10.2843 (Nvidia /  Intel) The latest driver from Lenovo is 9.18.13.4535 / 8.15.10.2725. I'm not sure how i have a slightly newer Intel, but that's what it was. I couldn't install the Lenovo driver. I also couldn't install a newer driver from Intel (10.18.10.4276). In both cases Windows or the Intel installer stopped me saying the mfr provided the drivers and that the installed version was up to date. I worked around by first rolling back the Intel driver. The manual (.zip) install of the latest intel driver worked. This immediately fixed the Dell u2415 on DP port 1 and laptop's built-in DP port.

Hi,
Just as the title says, I'm having a slight issue with my dual monitor setup. I regularly need to keep my computer on while not using it, so I usually turn both screens off when I do so.
My problem occurs when I return and turn both monitors on. When I turn on screen 2, nothing bad happens, and there is no change in the position of the windows I had open on both screens. However, when turning on screen 1, both screens refresh, and afterwards all windows that were open on screen 1 are now in the same positions on screen 2. I have had this problem since I installed the second screen about half a year ago.
I know this is a minor issue, but the number of times I've had to rearrange the screen is annoying. Is there any solution to this? Might it be something in the Win 10 display settings? Thanks in advance!
I have Win 10 Pro (10.0.10586 Build 10586)
Screen 1: Dell U2715H (miniDisplayPort) (2560x1440)
Screen 2: Dell U2713HM (Digital) (2560x1440)
Display Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti
I have the displays set as 'Extend these displays'.

Answer:Dual monitor issue - programs switch screen when monitor turned on

I'm not sure I can help, I haven't had that problem. I run 3 monitors. I assume you have gone to display properties and arranged the monitors as they are physically located and set one of them as primary display. Make sure each monitor has 'Extend Display to this monitor'. You should do the same in the Nvidia Control Panel. That's really all I had to do with mine.

Hi.

I recently got a monitor from one of my friends saying that it was broken. Its a Dell 19in LCD. I have my main monitor a 22in Samsung wide screen So i just plugged it into the second DVI slot on my graphics Card. When i went into the display config i set up dual monitors just to see if it was working. The dell monitor would blink up then quit on me.

When i was messing with the Display settings I made the Dell. Not my Samsung the Default Monitor. I unpluged the broken Dell and restarted. Now my computer regognizes the Samsung as the second monitor and it just shuts it off and recognizes nothing as the main.

I managed to get it into safe mode and it recognized the samsung but every time i try go back to Normal Start the screen is blank.

How can i get it to recognize the Samsung as my main?

Answer:Computer is stuck in dual monitor mode and will not display my Samsung monitor

You might try reinstalling your cards video drivers

Hi,

I am using windows 10 pro with 3 monitors attached to a GTX770.
2xDell U2715H monitors (1440p) - work monitors
1xPhilips 1080p monitor - client monitor.

Two monitors are used all the time for work in a dual monitor setup. The third monitor is placed away from me facing clients. When I want to show stuff on the pc to the clients, I will open the display settings and select the duplicate one of the 1440p monitors to the 1080p monitors. The display of the 1440p will scale down to 1080p. When clients leave, I toggle back the settings. The third display is only on when clients need to see something as it is a hassle for clients to come see the stuff the other side of the desk.

Is there a way to automate this process? Maybe some sort of macro/hotkey which I can configure the commands so that I don't need to go adjust the settings every time. I would just like two macro/commands that turns duplication on and off.

Thanks

Hi all,

I have been running a dual monitor setup on a Windows 10 PC and ever since a windows update a few weeks ago I have been having the following issue..

When I boot up the PC initially I see the same display on both screens, all perfectly normal. However when I land on the PC login screen all i see is a black screen with a cursor.

Just before the PC loads up this screen, my 2nd monitor (which should display the password login screen) loses signal, so I know the PC is loading up fine, it's just not displaying on the monitor.

Strangely when I manually switch the PC off via the power button and then switch it back on again everything starts up fine, the 2nd monitor is posting/receiving a signal.

I have checked for updates on my graphics card but I have the most recent ones. The graphics card is quite old (roughly 7 year old Nvidia card.

I have looked at the display settings menu and the monitors appear to be configured correctly.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how this can be solved?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi!
I recently bought a DVI cable to plug my external LG monitor to my laptop to run nVidia's DualView (stretch format) across the two monitors. I'm using a beta driver (169.04 from laptopvideo2go.com), and when I enter nVidia control panel and go into the setup additional monitors tab, it only lets me choose "choose only ONE monitor". So I did that just to test that my monitor was plugged in right, and it worked. So I KNOW that my monitor is working and is being recognized by Vista. But when going into display settings byt right clicking on my desktop, it also only recognizes 1 monitor. Is it my beta display driver messing my Vista up? Or what could it be?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

Answer:Solved: Dual monitor in Vista not working. Only showing 1 monitor.

for drivers to work properly in vista i'm pretty sure you have to have signed drivers, since it's beta are you sure they are signed?

I've been running a multi-monitor setup for a while now, with an ASUS VG248QE 144Hz monitor as my main, and one or more spare monitors as secondary displays. I've set the ASUS monitor to 144Hz without issue in the past, while the other monitors stay at 60Hz.

The other night, Windows wanted to update. I figured it was the usual patch session, so I let it do its thing. However, after restarting my computer, I noticed that my ASUS monitor would only operate at 144Hz if it was the only monitor plugged into the system. When I try to set it higher in the Nvidia control panel, it just reverts back to 60Hz after applying changes. I updated my graphics drivers (though I was only one version behind) and even sought a special ASUS driver for the monitor to resolve the issue, but nothing has helped.

Did Windows recently add a forced refresh rate sync between all monitors recently? If so, that really sucks because I only own one 144Hz monitor.

Answer:Dual monitor setup locks 144Hz monitor at 60Hz

Are you sure the other monitors are independent (dual or multiple mode) rather than cloning the main monitor? If they clone the main monitor, then this explains the 60Hz refresh rate, as all settings (resolution, color depth, refresh rate) should be common for all monitors and the others can only do 60Hz.

I am having troubles getting my dual monitors back.
Initially had a GeForce 8400GS 512MB PCI video card and was using the on board video (Biostar G41 M7 MB) for dual VGA monitor setup.

I've installed a Radeon HD 6670 1GB PCI-E video card with monitor one setup via DVI to VGA adapter on output one and 2nd monitor on VGA onboard video.
I cannot get the second monitor to detect in any configuration. Tried looking in BIOS of MB, using 2nd DVI (w/ vga adapter) on Radeon card.

Am at a loss and I hope I have provided enough information for some assistance.

Much appreciated

I don't understand why you are using a combination of DVI (to VGA) out of your HD6670 to one monitor, and also using the VGA out of your motherboard to the other monitor.

Am I interpreting what you've done correctly? You are using just the DVI output from your HD6670 through a DVI-to-VGA adapter and on to your first monitor, and also using the VGA output from the onboard graphics of the motherboard to feed the second monitor? If so, this is very wrong.

Your new HD6670 has TWO video outputs of its own: one is DVI, and the other is VGA. You should connect your second analog monitor to the VGA output of the HD6670, not to the onboard graphics VGA output.

Also, if you can disable the onboard graphics in the BIOS that's definitely what you should do when you install an external video card as you've done. At the very least you should give priority to the new PCIe video over PCI (which was your old GeForce card, and probably o... Read more

Hi,we have multiple M93p tiny computers causing problems in dual monitor setup (VGA / Displayport->DVI). Our users (already >5)  keep telling us, they leave their workplace, return, then DVI attached monitor if off and they do not find a way to turn it on. This is true; the only workaround that has been found by our users is to bring Win7/32bit into standby mode and awaking it again.Needless to say, we turned all windows energy saving options off (computer standby/hibernate, monitor turn off). Still the problem appears.Maybe there is something wrong with DVI power/DVI signal?- Monitor independent, as far as I can see- Independent from Windows energy saving modes- BIOS updates did not help[todo]: Try Intel/(AMD?) drivers, let users test. I haven't seen exactly when the monitor turns off because it is reported by users. About 6 months ago i invested in a second video card to use with an old monitor and a new PC. After much trial and error i eventually got it all working.

A couple of days ago i re-installed windows however and therefore all my settings have been reset and am now havein problems, and if i remember rightly the same ones as before. But for the life of me i cant figure out how to solve them this time round. So any help would be appreciated.

Spec -

2x plug and play monitor (almost sure it has nothing to do with these so wont add details)

1x Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 (AGP) with fully updated drivers (from manufacturers website) (the monitor off this video card works fine)

1x ATI Radeon 7000 (PCI) fully updated drivers (without catylist command centre however due to some installation problems. I had these before when both monitors worked fine..just the drivers) - Problematic monitor

Bios - Dell Computer Corporation A12 (newly updated) (I heard somewhere that this may have an effect).

The Problem-
On my second monitor (Radeon 7000 (PCI) whenever i try to move a frame, scroll in IE etc the refresh rate is appaling. Entire lines get moved at a time.
The only time the refersh rate does not slow is when moving the mouse and scrolling through files in c drive as far as i can tell. If i switch my primary monitor to this one and stop the monitor 'extension' it still flickers. Ive checked my monitors by changing which card they use and as expected, th... Read more

Answer:Dual monitor problems- second monitor refresh times dreadful

Well, could be bad drivers... nvidia and ATI hate eachother, so I dunno why you got cards like that, could be a driver conflict from un-updated windows files, that is to say, uninstall drivers, update everything on windows, re-install newest drivers.

Running dual monitors in Win 10 and when going through the Color calibration steps on monitor #2 (Control panel / Display / Calibrate color) the settings stick as long as the 2nd monitor is active.

If I switch to single display (Windows Key + P / PC Screen only) then the 2nd monitor loses its color calibration. Also anytime I reboot my PC (Even if I have both monitors active) the 2nd monitor loses my calibration.

The 2nd monitor has a fairly strong bias for the color Green so I can always tell right away.

I'm probably overlooking something and was hoping someone might of dealt with this before

I am not really an expert here, but I am wondering do you set the default calibration as well as the current calibration? I have always done that so I can't tell you whether it will cause your problems if you don't set it, but I can tell you that I have never had the issue you are having.

Hello I basically need conformation that I'll need to buy a new monitor in order to have a dual monitor set up with my current system. I'm not super tech savvy so if you need any other info please let me know.

I have a Radeon HD 6670 with 3 ports, an HMID, VGA (which is my monitors type) and DVI. Each port has a stamp next to it that indicates what port type it is/supports (the VGA has a CRI stamp next to it though). My main VGA monitor works fine with the VGA/CRI port, but my second I have to use a VGA to DVI adapter and it's not working.

I've gone through a lot of forums, and found some conflicting information. So I really want to know is it possible to use a converter/adapter or will I need to just go out and buy a new monitor that has a DVI hook up?

I hope I don't need a new monitor, I'm on a very tight budget. (la sigh)

Answer:Radeon HD 6670 Dual Monitor setup not detecting 2nd monitor

I would try one of these before giving up on the monitor:

Rosewill 10ft. DVI-A (24+5) Male to HD15 VGA Male Analog Video Cable w/ Ferrites Cores, Model RCW-900 - Newegg.com

Forget adapters, you might not a have a compatible one, the DVI connector has many variants.

Look at that cable end and make sure it would fit on your video card's female DVI connector (it should), it's DVI-A (analog only) to VGA which is analog only....

I am looking for help with my new x201 (3626 A57) with docking station.  I am running it with an external Lenovo monitor using the docking base.  I have them set up for dual mode when in the dock.  I undocked by pressing the button on the left of the dock, waited for the green light to stop flashing, and pulling the lever.  After using the laptop successfully in undocked config, I replaced the laptop on the dock.  From that point until I reboot, the the monitor did not recognize the laptop and did not display a dual mode screen.  I tried Fn + F4 for sleep mode and also unplugged the external monitor.  It would be great if this worked seamlessly in or out of the dock. Any ideas?  Am I doing something wrong in my undocking?

I have an ATI Radeon 4670 card. I have not had trouble getting it to "Dual Display" in the past. Usually I wanted to do an extended display. I am now trying to get it set up with my HDTV with HDMI. I have added the Realtech drivers and HDMI adapter to the video card and have been able to get HDMI and digital sound to the HDTV, I am trying to get the two displayed as clones.

The problem I am having is after getting Catalyst to display the HDTV, I have lost the image on the monitor. In the process of trying to get it back to both displays I have accidently made the HDTV an extension of the monitor. Which is really a cluster as I can not get to the control panel to make any changes. All I have is the extension showing on the big TV but none of the controls. I tried rebooting in safe mode but was unable to access the catalyst control center as it did not boot in safe mode. The big plus is that in safe mode both screens are visible, but I can not undo the Catalyst settings. I am now running a system restore which will take me back to tomorrow settings, which is not ideal but better than not being able to access anything outside of safe mode.

How do I get the TV and monitor to display at the same time?

Hi guys! I've been coming across an issue lately and wanted to get some insight as to what exactly is going on. I'm guessing it's the video card, and all my drivers for it are up to date, but I want to make sure.

The first time this happened was on 5/31/2014(see attached screenshot). It's happened a total of 4 times in the past two weeks and always at the same instance. I have a single monitor plugged into my video card(HD 6850) and also have my TV plugged in as well for when I want to watch movies and such. Typically I am running my PC in dual monitor mode(duplicate screens) even when the TV is off but when I turn to TV on these past 4 times, the screen flashes black as normal, but instead of both screens appearing again in tandem the TV is blank and my pc monitor now has a GSOD. I've attached another screenshot as well from 6/4/2014.

It does not happen every time but as I noted it's done this 4 times. As instructed I've also attached my zip file with all the info from DM Log Collector. Let me know if I'm missing anything else that you need. My pc specs are in my profile as well.

Need help with dual monitor setup. First time trying to do it.

2 Problems
1.
Second monitor does turn on, but is only showing native resolution (1024 x 768) but it has the ability to go up to 1280x1024.
I want to to be able to set it to 1280x1024.

2.
Second monitor will not boot up along with computer.
I shut down my PC, the monitor is still plugged in, and it doesn't wake up automatically.
Things I've tried
- Updating drivers, obviously. (Nvidia, etc.)
- Uninstalling default driver of second monitor in Device Manager then rebooting computer, then plugging out and replugging the monitor back in (so it reinstalls) because it doesn't boot up on its own.
- My Power Options is set to "High Performance" so that's not the reason why my 2nd monitor isn't booting up with my PC.
- I have tried plugging in the VGA cord of my second monitor into the mother board but it didn't come up.
General Information
- The second monitor is an HP Compaq LE1711
- The second monitor is plugged into my GPU? via a VGA cord into an HDMI to VGA Pigtail Adapter (company: ATIVA), into an HDMI port.
- The main monitor (1920x1080) is plugged into my GPU?, via a VGA cord into VGA to DVI-I Dual Link Adapter, into a DVI-I port.

Picture of what I'm seeing:

I'm pretty sure I've got some of the terminology wrong (I'm not a computer expert).

Any help is appreciated!

I recently purchased another monitor so I can run dual-monitors on my newly upgraded-to Windows 8 desktop. I set the monitor up last night, and I haven't had any major issues so far... One issue that I've run into, though, is the secondary monitor (regardless whether it's the monitor I owned first or the one I just bought) flashes randomly. Last night, a restart fixed the issue, so I didn't think anything of it. Today when I started it up, it was fine again for about 5-10 minutes. Then it began to flash randomly. It's not a constant steady flash, it only happens once every 3-10 minutes, but it shouldn't be happening. Does anyone else have the same problem and/or have suggestions on how to fix it?

- at screen resolution I see multiple displays and I have it set on extended.

- tried unplugging and reconnecting the cable (hdmi to vga)

I'm lost. SOS!

Answer:Dual monitor setup hdmi to vga on 2nd monitor shows nothing

Dave welcome to the Seven Forums.

That cable won't work unless the VGA port on the computer/laptop supports digital (highly unlikely), as VGA is an analogue signal and HDMI is digital. To get it to work you would need some kind of converter not an adapter, which that cable essentially is.

Assuming this is your monitor,

LG E2241V-BN: 22" Full HD LED LCD Monitor | LG USA

is says it has a VGA port on it. If it does then just use a plain old VGA cable.

I'm currently using two 4:3 monitors of my PC, and I'd like to substitute them with one big wide screen monitor. The only thing I'm worry about is that I won't be able to have different "spaces" for my windows that they could expand to (so I could have, for example, my e-mail on the right part, and my browser on the left).

All I've found so far are virtual desktop software, but that's not what I need. I'm looking for something that splits the visible desktop into multiple parts.

Any ideas? I'm using Vista by the way
Appreciate your help

First of all, hello! And thanks for your time!

I am running a dual monitor setup with my TV hooked up via HDMI to my laptop.

Everything was working fine before, I always had the laptop as my main display yet I could play a video or a game fullscreen on the TV.

Since a couple of days, as soon as I put something in fullscreen, it immediately goes on my laptop, regardless if it's open on my TV or my laptop.

I don't remember changing/installing anything that could've changed that...

I checked a bit in the AMD vision software and the Windows control pannel but I can't seem to solve my problem without switching my TV as the main display.

I also made a quick search on google as well as here but the problems were mainly with Flash, which isn't in cause here.

Here are my system specs:

Toshiba Satellite L75D
Windows 7 home premium 64-bit
AMD Radeon 6520G

Thanks!

Djoulz.

Answer:Dual monitor setup - fullscreen goes on wrong monitor

My desktop has my LCD monitor through Display Port and my TV through DVI. What I do is have my multiple monitors set to "Extend these displays" and make the LCD the primary display. Ive included two pictures of what my settings look like, first is with the LCD(1) selected and the second is the TV(2).

I will say that sometimes the program you are using forces the fullscreen to go to the primary screen, I have had this trouble with Everquest a number of years ago. There was a program that you could run with the game that allowed you to put the game window into boxes, different screens and a bunch of other things.

I primarily use my TV for watching movies/tv, Media Player Classic does a great job of being able to open to fullscreen in either monitor, regardless of how the monitors are setup.

I've searched some forums and while i have found all sorts of dual monitor problems i haven't found this one.

I have a MSI M670 laptop ( with nvidia 6100Go graphics card ) and a Samsung SyncMaster T240HD. I always connected my monitor with a VGA cable on my windows xp and everything worked fine.
After i've installed Windows 7 when i connect the monitor to my laptop automatically the laptop monitor is disabled and the Samsung becomes the primary display.
If i press windows_key+P Computer Only is selected and whatever i select from the list ( duplicate, extend, projector only ) nothing happens and Computer Only is always selected.

In the Nvidia panel under the "Set up multiple displays" option after i connect the Samsung it becomes the only option so i cannot revert to my laptop display whatever i do.
Rigurous Display Detection does not help at all.

Any ideas ?

Here is my problem. I have a primary monitor and then I run S-Video out to the TV so I can watch video clips.

With Vista, I had no trouble starting a video clip in media player on the primary screen and then dragging it over to the second monitor (TV) for actual viewing.
However, I tried to do that with Windows 7-it won't let me drag Media Player over to the second monitor. I can drag other applications to the second Window (Word, Browsers), but not any media program. Even tried another media player application.

Not sure what to do-how can I get this to work? I want to be able to watch TV/Movies on my second monitor.

i have only one monitor, and somehow it is being treat as though its the secondary monitor in a dual monitor set up.

i cannot view my start menu, or view any programs being opened, as when i try to open them, they presumeably open on the phantom primary monitor.

even when i try to open display settings, i cannot see the box.

i am able to move my mouse to the left border of the screen and move it off into oblivion, and occasionally drag random folders and short cuts over to view.

if anyone can walk me through how to fix this (im not very good with computers, beyond playing games it would be appreciated.

im on my gf's mac right now to write this post, as my pc cant do anything at the moment.

thanks

just getting my dual monitor setup running, and it seems fine, both monitors running off one ati video card (x1600pro), primary monitor running off of DVI and the second running VGA, PC is running Windows XP Media Center

the problem is the second monitor seems washed out, the colours seem over exposed, or too bright however you want to describe it. The first/primary monitor is perfect. I have the silver theme enabled on WinXP, and by default, the highlighting color is gray, I can hardly see the gray on the second monitor when the background is white because its so washed out

any idea how to get this monitor to look the way its suppose to?

Thanks alot!

Hello,     I have a carbon x1 feb 2014 20A7 with the pro dock.  I'm attempting to drive two monitors throug the dock. A 30" dell res 2560x1600 abd a 24" HP res 1920x1200.  The dell is connected through the display port and works well, however windows 8.1 (64-bit factory default) will not see the second (HP monitor). When I attempt to extend the display it says windows cannot apply this configuration.      If i plug the second display directly into the laptop it connects through the mini display port with no problems.  When I spoke with the customer support representative purchasing the laptop he confirmed the pro dock should be able to drive both displays.  Any advice is appreciated.

I recently purchased a dual head ATI video card and have started using it's ability to display to my TV. This has given me the opportunity to watch movies while my wife is still surfing and I love it.

However

My current setup has the TV set up as monitor 2 and in "theater mode" so that it catches any video signal from the main monitor and duplicates it. The TV is across the room and doesn't need to benefit in any way from the mouse or as an extended desktop in this mode, and in fact the mouse pointer goes missing if it drifts into the second monitor when movies are playing anyway.

Right now my only real "solution" has been to set up monitor 2 in the upper left corner of the main monitor so that only the very tip of the screen shoots the mouse pointer across the room. This almost works. What I am looking for is a solution that keeps the mouse pointer contained so that it doesn't leave unless I let it out.

The solution I'm looking for is probably not from ATI, but more likely another multi monitor control program or some cute utility that doesn't let the mouse go to certain places on the screen.

Can anyone recommend a better mouse trap? My mouse is trying to escape.

So I just bought a new computer and 2 identical monitors for a dual monitor set up.
Here are the products:
click here computer has vga and hdmi inputs and the monitors have all: vga, hdmi and dvi.
When I connect the monitor to the computer via hdmi (tried both monitors and several hdmi cables) it stays blank and says 'no vga input' on the screen.
The computer is set up properly; when I connect my tv to the pc via hdmi it works fine and works as a dual monitor extended set up should. This therefore indicates the computer is set up correctly, the leads are fine and thus the monitor is the problem.
It can't be faulty (or at least I hope not) as neither monitors will connect this way.
I have read around that windows 8.1 can cause these kind of problems but I really don't know much about this and have tried uninstalling and re installing graphic card drivers but it still doesn't work.
The computer always recognizes when the monitor is plugged in as the main screen will flicker and in control panel it displays both monitors as being connected; and as such if I move my mouse off the screen it will keep going as if I could see it on the next screen along.
Any ideas before I return the monitors? As I hateeee returning products purchased online.
Also thinking about purchasing a vga to hdmi converter - is this likely to work do you think?
Many thanks.

I have a dual monitor setup, where the laptop is hooked to a 2nd monitor (TV) thru an HDMI . I primarily use the 2nd monitor. Can I blank screen the 1st (laptop screen) monitor, yet continue to use the 2nd monitor with the lid open for access to the keyboard?(I noticed with changed settings in Win7 control panel, I can close the lid without cutting off [sleep, hibernate or shut-off] the computer and had to reduce the 2nd monitor display to fit the visible screen. But to use the keyboard one has to open the laptop lid, which kicks in the 1st screen)Thank you

I have just did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate from XP and I am unable to get my dual monitors to work like they did in XP.

I have a DVI Radeon graphics card plugged into the agp slot, and a Nvidia geforce vga adapter plugged into a pci slot of my dell optiplex 755. When I am in the screen resolution settings the second monitor cannot be detected.

In bios I have 2 options under primary video adapter and they are auto, and onboard card. When set to auto the Nvidia card gets a signal but the Radeon does not. There are no conflicts in the device manager, and all of the drivers are up to date.

When I change the bios option to onboard card the Radeon adapter gets a signal but the other monitor cannot be detected and in device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to Standard VGA adapter and a code 10 error that states the device could not be started.

I have powered down, and unplugged every cable, I also tried to use the integrated VGA adapter to the Intel G31/G33/Q33/Q35 Graphics Controller but the computer will not even boot. I get
"System Halted
Attention Unsupported Video Configuration Detected"

I have two monitors, both work fine as standalones but Windows will not detect either as a secondary.

Please help me someone, I am so used to having my helpdesk email open in one monitor and all of my other work in the other monitor.

Welcome!

Try updating your card drivers. Go into Device Manager and right-click on your display adapter.

I suspect that the cards are too old, though. We will see.

I recently moved my studio downstairs, and the only thing that has changed is that I now use a Wacom Intuos 6" x 11" tablet. When running Corel Painter 11 the right monitor is sluggish, but the other one is fine.

For example if I drag any painter window around on the right monitor it is really sluggish, but if I drag it to the left monitor it's fine.

Monitors on same ports as before, and I did not have this issue before I moved my studio.

Driving me crazy, and I need to get back to work! Any help, suggestions greatly appreciated!

I have recently built a new box with a clean install of Windows 7. Initially I only had 1 monitor and things worked fine. I decided to add a second monitor and that is when the problems started.

When the system boots both monitors display all of the bootup information and and both monitors display the Windows 7 Startup screens. This tells me both monitors and connections are good.

Once Windows loads only monitor 2 has a display on it. Monitor 1 is blank. I have check and both monitors are running the same, and latest drivers. I have gone into windows and it shows two monitors, but I can not get a display on monitor 1.

This is the first time I have had dual monitors so it may very well be a user error, but I am pretty computer literate.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I have students which come to my room all the time, so it is easier if I can hook the monitor near the desk rather than they stretch their heads or come over cramping the space there.

The monitor has to be mirrored as I can see what I'm doing on my side and they can see on their side.

I have been running a dual monitor setup for several years without issue. I was using a 28" Hanns G 16:10 1920x1200 via HDMI & an ASUS 27" via DVI. They were connected to a Zotac GTX 570 and then later to a Gigabyte GTX 770 4GB graphics card.

About a month ago I substituted a 30 Inch Monoprice 16:10 2560x 1600 monitor connected via DVI for the Asus monitor (both MP & HG still connected to GTX 770). In the last two days, the Monoprice monitor has gone black twice. When this happens, all programs that were visible on the now black monitor combine with the programs on the visible monitor. When I open up the control panel, it only lists the Hanns G (still visible) monitor as detected and the Monoprice (black) monitor has to be re-detected. After clicking on "Detect" the monitor returns to normal. This happened once while gaming (Left 4 Dead 2) and once when I wasn't gaming...can't remember exactly what programs were open at that time.

I updated my graphics driver between the time it first happened and the second time it happened. I also used device manager to see if there was an available monitor driver update available, but windows claims that the most current driver is installed and that the graphics card and both monitors are working properly.

I would really appreciate any assistance that can be offered. The 30 inch monitor wasn't cheap and I am hoping that the monitor is not the issue. I have not yet done any trial and error measures such as ... Read more

Hi all, thanks in advance for your attention.

I'm using a television (32p) as a second monitor in extended mode so that I can watch a movie in the TV and play a game in the monitor (this was my main goal). Monitor and TV lays in two different ambients, both connected to the same pc, one by normal VGA cable and the other by HDMI. I managed to differentiate the audio output so that VLC player sends it's audio to the HDMI (so that only the TV plays it) and the rest of system sounds, media players and games outputs to the speakers (basically only the VLC audio is directed to another output device). I reached my goal so that I can watch a movie fullscreen in the TV and play a game in the monitor fullscreen too without any interference from one another (nor audio or video).

The thing is, because I have the TV in another ambient I can't actually see what's going on in it, as I just "throw" the VLC window to the TV from my main monitor. And here's the question: There's a way to see the TV's desktop in my monitor? Without having to set it as main monitor so to not really switch between desktops.. The perfect thing would be if I could see the TV's desktop in a window like in remote desktops applications.

Just and example of what it could be:

I have windows 7 up to date on the new computer and ATI drivers are up to date as well. The issue that I'm having is my P191 monitor is not being pulled out of standby and windows, as well at ATI CCC, says it only supports a 640x400 resolution. I've tried plugging this monitor in solo in every DVI port in my primary ATI card, swapped both cables, and swapped card positions, yet the monitor still stays in standby whilst my AL1916 runs like a champ and I can edit all of it's settings. I've gone through all the options in ATI CCC to set up dual monitors and I get nothing. I didn't have a problem with the P191 on my XP system.

So how can I get my P191 monitor working? ATI CCC and windows knows that the monitor is there and they both can identify the model of the monitor, but windows refers to it as a generic non-PnP monitor (the AL1916 is refered to as a generic PnP monitor). Answer:Solved: Dual Monitor: Monitor still in standby

First, make sure your video card drivers are up to date. Second check in device manager to make sure it actually recognizes the monitor, if it does, remove/uninstall it, and let it reinstall the monitor. then go to the screen resolution and click on detect, if it still cannot recognize the monitor and allow you to change the resolution, I'd say the next step would be to go into your graphics card driver software, but unfortunately, I'm an Nvidia junkie and don't know how to use ATI's software.

I hope I helped =D.

Hi,

I had a two monitor setup Samsung 2333SW(DVI) + Philips 19B(VGA) running without any problems. I have now replaced the old Phillips with a Samsung P2770H, connecting the P2770 to DVI and switching the 2333SW to VGA(Analogue).

Updated the drivers for both (rebooted) and when I look in Device Manager under Monitors it shows Samsung P2770 and Samsung 2333SW.

Problem is when I right click on the desktop and go to Screen Resolution it shows the two monitors as "Samsung Syncmaster" being the P2770 and "Phillips" being the S2333 and because the Phillips was a 4:3 monitor it only gives me crap resolutions for the 2333SW. (1280 and below)

My question is how do I remove the Phillips monitor from Windows 7 and have it pick up the Samsung 2333SW? I find it very odd seeign as Device manager shows the two samsung monitors and no Phillip monitor.

Much appreciate your help/advice.

Adriaan, welcome to the forums.

I would start with setting Device Manager to show hidden and non-present devices,

Device Manager : Hidden Devices

Then once that is done open Device Manager and under Monitors, delete any that are grayed out as well as the mis-named one (if it shows as such). Then reboot and let Windows detect and install the driver for it. that should get them detected properly.

Hello, I'm new to the forum! Thanks for building this forum!

Here is my problem:

I have a "regular" Intel Graphics card on my HP desktop. It has a VGA port and a DVI port.

When I connect one monitor (a VIZIO 26" LED/LCD TV) to the VGA port, everthing is good...
I tried to connect a second monitor (the same TV model) but it didn't work, here's what happened:

I connected a DVI to VGA adapter into the DVI slot on the PC, then a VGA cable to the VGA port on the TV and it wouldn't even detect it!

The next thing I tried is I connected a DVI cable to the DVI port on the PC and on the other end I used a DVI to HDMI adapter and connected it to the HDMI port on the TV...well NOW the second monitor is detected in the "change display" options where you "extend" the view, BUT, my second monitor keeps shutting off (it's on PC input) automatically because it doesn't get a "signal" from the PC?

I tried to "extend" the monitor, but nothing happens! I only have a blue screen that says "no siganl" on the second monitor!

Does anyone have any idea what I can do!? Will I need another graphics card!?

Any insight is truly appreciated as I am not very versed in technology!

Thanks for your time and best regards!

Beto.

Hey.

The Problem...
I just got a new laptop, and I tried setting up dual monitors using my previous computer (desktop) screen. When I plugged it in, the second screen imediately started displaying what was on the laptop screen and the resolution automatically changed to support the external screen. However, when I went to change the settings to dual mode the screen was not detected.

What I've Tried...
I've pressed the "detect" button, and nothing changed. I've pressed the "identify" button and "1|2" appears on both screens. I clicked on "advanced settings" then went to the "monitor" panel where two monitors were listed identically as "Generic PnP Monitor" which were both working properly. I tried changing the resolution to all available options, all of which never made my monitor stop displaying. I've restarted my computer.

Answer:Dual Monitor, Won't Function as Second Monitor

... oops...
Like, literally 10 seconds after pressing "post" I figured it out. I had the "Multiple displays" setting set to "Duplicate these displays", man how did I miss that... ~_~

To fix the problem discussed in this thread, go to "Control Panel", search "monitors", select "Set up computer to use multiple monitors", open the "Multiple displays:" dropdown menu and select "Extend these displays".

I think that this thread should remain even though I answered my own question and no real discussion occurred just incase something like this happens to someone else.

Sorry about this, I don't know what happened, why I didn't see that before...
Oh well...

Hi all.

So, I just got a spiffy new monitor from Woot.com (a debranded HP w2338h). Gorgeous, works great when it's all by its lonesome. Not even a dead pixel!

However, when I try to hook it up at the same time as my old HP vs17 (which also works great by itself), it goes black, says "no input signal," and goes to sleep. I'm using a Radeon 4670 HD. Brand new drivers, Hydravision installed. Windows 7 64-bit.

Catalyst detects both the monitors, offering an extended desktop, and when I move my mouse off the side of the vs17, it disappears and takes time to return, indicating that the computer thinks the screen is still on and is moving the mouse all over this expanse of screen real estate.

Also, when I boot up, both monitors show the boot-up screen just fine, up through the Windows logo load.

Tried switching the cables on the video card, no luck.

Any ideas?

Have a new xps 8700 tower  Win 7 Home premium.   (64 bit)
Dell UZ2215H multimedia monitor w/ integrated speakers and webcam.
Graphics card:  NVIDIA GeForce GT 720 = has one each of VGA, HDMI, and DVI port.
To enable speakers and webcam, using HDMI from graphics card to Dell monitor, leaving VGA and DVI ports.
Television is a Samsung model UN32EH4000F  (Not a "smart" TV)  Currently have a ROKU tied in thru one HDMI slot.  Would I do best to use a DVI to HDMI cable to tie in to the remaining port of the TV to enable a dual monitor system?
Thanks in advance

Answer:Best way to dual monitor xps 8700 with monitor and LED TV

GeForce GT 720 HDMI out --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> UZ2215H HDMI inGeForce GT 720 DVI out --> DVI to HDMI cable --> TV HDMI in* But, DVI cannot transmit audio, so you would not get audio from the XPS 8700 to the TV unless you connect a cable from the XPS 8700 audio line out to TV audio line in
