Installation failing i keep getting feature transfer error

Question: Installation failing i keep getting feature transfer error

I'm at my wits end, i have no idea what to do

Preferred Solution: Installation failing i keep getting feature transfer error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Installation failing i keep getting feature transfer error

If this is a program; I would first download, install, and run the free edition of revo uninstaller; which should completely uninstall ALL of the program you are trying to install; including registry entries, etc. and then reboot; which will clear the system resources, etc. then try and install it again. Below is the link to revo uninstaller:

Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Now; if you do all of that and it still does not work for ya; post back and we can go from there.

Hi eveyrone, I'm new, and I'm definitly not a computer wiz! I did some looking around on your site and did find some posts about the same error I am having. But I'm not sure if this will help me in any way, if you think they will just let me know. My pc had crashed, we had a power outage and the mother board went, lost all my stuff, even though they told me I could most likely take the hard drive and have it restored but money is tight on my end. I have pc protection through verizon so I got a brand new computer, its an HP (I had a Dell that was custom built by an old friend) anyway, my son has a few old games that worked absolutly fine on the old pc, I have no clue how to work Windows 8, I had windows xp, so I'm totally lost with this computer I'm afraid to even get on it!!! LOL anyway he got this error on two different games but like I said they are old and I did read it oculd be the disc might have scratches??? but I'm also wondering is there a difference between the windows xp to the windows 8 and maybe that is why it's not letting it download? Should I try and do that copy thing onto the harddrive? I did write down directions that I saw off of one post but I'm not sure if that would work with Windows 8, so I may need help on that. So if anyone can help I'd appreciate it, he loves this game is is Midevil 2 Total War and I know I have enough memory for it I would think with this new PC my new one has 3rd Generaton Intel Core i5-... In attempting to install movie editing software, ImageMixer 3 SE, I get an error message Feature Transfer Error - catastrophic failure. I believe it is caused by something in Windows installer and not the program disc. I tried a second program disc with the same result. I have tried every "fix" from every forum I visited with no success to date. I can not find it even addressed on Microsoft's Web site.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I don't know if this is the right forum for this but here goes--I have a Dell Inspiron PC with Windows XP Home Edition, SP3. I recently tried to install the newest version of the Paypal plug-in and I'm getting a Feature Transfer Error ATL71. I am logged in as administrator. I even tried uninstalling the original plug-in and installing the newer version but I keep getting the same error. I had no problem reinstalling the original version of the plug-in. Mozilla Firefox 3 is my web browser. I also have the following software installed on my PC: AVG Anti-virus version 8 free edition, newest edition of Zone Alarm free firewall and the newest version of Spybot Search and Destroy.

Any help in resolving this would be appreciated.

Answer:Feature Transfer Error ATL71

Since, no one has responded here, I tried to contact support at the PayPal website. After 3 attempts they finally responded that this Feature Transfer Error ATL71 is a known issue and have added me to their ticket for resolving the problem. When they have a resolution, they will let me know and I will add the resolution to this post.

Er No!!

Is the USB controller recognised? are there any drivers already installed? if so can you uninstall them

Can you turn USB 3 off in the BIOS? if yes do it, start your PC switch off the PC switch USB 3 back on again and try again

You could try using CCleaner both normal clean and registry don't forget to make a registry backup and then try installing it again
I hope this helps

"Edit" have a look here there are other drivers that I believe should work if you can install them; win 7 doesn't recognize NEC usb 3.0 driver

I am having some difficulty installing, uninstalling and reinstalling some OEM software supplied with a Video/Audio Grabber. By coincidence, the same software is also supplied with a USB DVB-Tuner that I also bought.
The disk that I am focusing on is the one supplied with the Video/Audio Grabber in the link below:

http://www.agknordic.com/new/index.php?side_id=248

I bought it from Netto a few months ago.
The OEM software is supplied by ArcSoft, this is the link to their website:

http://www.arcsoft.com/estore/featured_products.asp?id=ESTORE

The disk contains installations for:
a) Drivers
b) ShowBizDVD 2
c) TotalMedia 3.5
d) Video Downloader

My immediate issues are with a) and b) although it is apparent that neither of the other applications will work either.

I have tried to uninstall the above software after receiving error messages. I have used the disk supplied to attempt to carry this out.

The first message I get is:

So I have a server that is running a WDS server in which we have made images for a computer lab in the past. I recently have been working on setting up a new image, and I sysprepped and captured it from a computer. After uploading it to the server then
attempting to install it on a client PC, it will expand files until 99% then give me an error "Windows cannot install required files....error code: 0x80070714. I have mounted this image through imagex to check if there were any lingering file problems,
and did not find any. I took a default installation wim from an Enterprise disc and installed that through the server which worked fine. I even recaptured the image from the same computer to see if it was corrupted. I am unsure of what else to try. Thanks
for any help

Hi, We have one user running Office 2010 with SP1 on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. The Search feature has failed twice on this PC in the last fortnight. I've followed the procedure to zero the index then re-create it, but I'm wondering if something else is causing the search feature to fail. Has anyone experienced this before?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Outlook Search feature failing

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

I'm not sure what you mean by "failed" since there are many ways that it can fail - but try turning off indexing for Outlook.

Hi, I have had this annoying problem always with Windows 10. I am from Finland, and I use English Windows. I have set-up my Windows so that I have Finnish Keyboard and English UI.

However, for some reason this annoying Optional Feature keeps trying to install multiple times a day, and I can't find a way to fix it. I have never wanted to install it, and there is no way to select "I don't want this!". Worst part is, it always fails to install it... As you can see from the link, there are quite few pop-ups I have had to deal with.

How can I fix this problem?

Answer:Optional Feature that I don't want keeps trying to Install and failing

It is just a guess, but try to disable this task. Run CMD as admin and copy/paste:

schtasks /Change /TN "Microsoft\Windows\LanguageComponentsInstaller\Installation" /Disable

Install language components that match the user's language list.

If it does not help, enable it back.

schtasks /Change /TN "Microsoft\Windows\LanguageComponentsInstaller\Installation" /Enable

I had similar troubles when upgrading from windows 7 to windows 10 but managed to get through it by removing all usb peripherals except keyboard and mouse.

I recently upgraded my motherboard, ram, cpu and graphics card. I was online with Microsoft for an hour fixing the activation and proving my everything was legitimate.

I have tried the the MediaCreationTool, downloaded and succesfully made the install DVD (no to updates, Windows 10 Home).

The DVD install ran and the update/install failed with this really informative error message:

When I clicked OK I could see that setup was at 45% done and then it all rolled back.

After the rollback and logging in again the DVD setup gave me a more informative error message.
Since there are no peripherals attached I searched and found the SFC and DISM suggestions. Here is their results:

Both show no errors or corrective actions.

I checked the C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources log files for both Panther and Rollback folders. They are attached here.
upgrade issues.zip

I'm a bit stumped at this point.

Following Microsofts troubleshooting tips I've found the issue is related to a driver but I'm not sure which one.
See error code "0xC1900101 - 0x30018" on https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...lyze-log-files

How do I figure out which driver is responsible?

Answer:Windows 10 Feature update 1709 keeps failing to install

Don`t use the MCT to create a dvd installer.

Just download the Iso file, check its size and use this simple program to burn the Iso to the DVD, make sure you burn it at the slowest possible speed given in the program, after you insert the blank dvd.

The 64 Bit Iso of W10 Fall Creators Update is 3,720,192 KB

Free ISO Burner
As far as Activation goes, you are trying to install W10 on a new MB (new Hardware) so technically you should buy a new key. But they say you can link your Microsoft Account to activate W10.

Hi Dibbz.

Do you know the specific KB number being downloaded. If so you can manual download from catalog. Once you have I would enter BIOS and disable secure boot and Fast Boot (if they are there, names maybe be slightly different.)

Then disconnect from network and at command prompt(admin) enter

Net stop wuauserv
Net stop bits

Next double click the file you downloaded. After it installs reboot.

Did you ever run sfc /scannow and did it report anything.

We have this tutorial on resetting Windows Update.

Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

The above process will likely clear your update history, no big deal but didn't want a surprise.

Next thing you sould try is an inplace repair / upgrade. If you download media creation tool today it will create a USB key with 1703 on it. Again have secure boot disable and fast boot disabled in bios. I would be disconnect from Internet and skip getting updates until your update is successful.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

I always recommend have your data backed up off machine and to be really prudent create an image with a tool like Macrium Reflect.

My notebook is running Windows 10 Home Ver 1607 OS build 14393.1358. About a week ago, it commenced attempting to download and install feature update to version 1703.
This failed and the notebook has subsequently made 15 attempts, all of which failed. My data connection is through my mobile phone and that connection is set as metered which should have prevented the process.
Outcome is that my phone has had all of its data consumed including a bit more than AU$700 credit plus two AU$30 recharges. In addition the notebook then connected to my Wife's mobile phone which also had a bit more than AU$700 credit which was also used plus one extra AU$30 recharge. Oh and I've also consumed several GB of "free" wi fi.
So for a cost of about AU$1,500 I have got nothing and the feature update still starts running if I connect my notebook to the Internet.
Is there a way of stopping this feature update? Seems that it probably fails because my Notebook is operating Version 1607 and not 1703. Why would Microsoft release an update that causes this problem. Surely the update process should check the version before downloading such a large update.
Would also appreciate advice of how to make the metered connection function properly and block updates.
Thanks

Answer:Feature Update to Ver 1703 not working and metered connection failing

Hi, that sounds a pretty miserable and costly experience.

Turning first to disabling the update and getting control - you can easily find how to do this by searching the internet for 'How do I disable Windows update'

Enable or Disable Windows Update Automatic Updates in Windows 10 Windows 10 Windows Update Activation Tutorials

or use Winaero's free tweaker for convenience.

If you have Win 10 Pro, you can use Defer Feature Upgrades to delay the upgrade a few months, as I have.

If you search this forum you will find many reports of people finding the upgrade fails. This happens for some with all Windows upgrades and there are various causes. (After all this forum is where people come with problems).

You can make sure you only download the upgrade once by downloading a Win 10 iso yourself. You can then use that as many times as you wish. This is always my preferred option.

I would always also create a disk image (Macrium Reflect (free) + external storage for images) before upgrading. We strongly recommend the routine use of disk imaging to protect your PC, your data, and possibly your sanity.

What's the problem with the upgrade?

Hi,

Sorry for asking this again but my problem was that one of my drives partially failed and deleted all folders beginning with letters K through Z. When my backup script ran it deleted all of the same folders on the backup drive.

I received a reply from a user (don't have access to the name right now) who suggested a freeware sync package which most likely would work. However, company policy states that no freeware is to be run on our systems. While I could probably get away with it a question comes to mind - Why isn't this a standard feature in commercially available backup software. There must be a name for this type of option. I'm new to this backup task that was off loaded on me so please forgive me if I'm asking an obvious question.

Does anyone know of a commercially available package and / or what this feature might be called? I can't be the only person who has run into this problem.

Thanks Again,

Larry

Answer:Failing Disk Deletes Backup Data-Need More Info - Feature Name

I was that user and recommended FreeFileSync which does versioning. I haven't really looked at commercial software so I'm sorry I can't help with that, but I'll ask if others will respond.

I run a small data business from home. As part of the process, I use a custom Visual Basic application using Windows ftp protocol to copy files from a local drive to a remote hosted ftp site. This process is scheduled to run every night. Once or twice a week, my client will let me know that he has retrieved the file from the ftp site, but it is 0 bytes. Now, when I try and log on to the ftp site using wsftp, I am authenticated, but the ftp hangs while trying to return a file listing. I have to reset my internet connection through my Linksys router before I can successfully get to the ftp file list. Has anyone seen this before or have any ideas? Thanks!

I don't know if it is related, but I am using an online backup service, where each evening, several files are backed over the network. Could this activity periodically cause contention with my ftp transfer?

I have searched the forums and come up so far with partial answers to my situation, but not a complete solution. So I will post my specific problem, and my questions.

I have an HP D4100E with an original (Maxtor 7Y250M0) sata 250 gb hard drive, I am running Windows XP SP2. The hd came with two partitions set up: a c:/ (NTFS) with windows and all the preinstalled programs, and a d:/ (FAT32) set up as a recovery partition. I also have a full set of recovery cd's, so the partition is unnecessary if I choose to do a clean reinstall. I have set up two more partitions on the drive: an e:/ and f:/ (both NTFS) to store various types of files. I just started receiving crc errors on my f:/ partition, and by using chkdsk /r have confirmed the drive is failing (it is not a volume issue). So far the crc errors have not crept into my other partitions. I have contacted HP and b/c my computer is still under warranty they are shipping me a new drive. This drive will arrive unformatted. I want to transfer my c:/ drive intact and as much of my data as can be recovered. I have spent alot of time getting my c:/ and my programs set up where and how I want them, and I really don't want to redo it.

My first question revolves around how to set up the replacement drive as a secondary, so I can transfer data. My documentation does not tell me how to do this and I have little hope in HP tech support helping me. Any guidance in how to do this would be appreciated.

My second issue is how to t... Read more

I did search the web and this forum for a silmilar question, but I have not been able to locate an answer; I do apologize if this has been asked and answered before. So here is my situation: I have a laptop running windows XT, and there wasn?t any important files there. I purchased windows 7 Home premium Upgrade version. I installed windows 7 on the same c:/ drive, and the original windows files are now backed up by the installation into windows.old. I updated the audio drivers and the video driver, and the laptop works fine for a while. But now I am receiving error messages from windows 7 that my hard disk may be failing: and I can see the messages once or twice every day now. So I use windows 7 to back up (1) a c:/ drive image and (2) a recovery disk onto a set of DVDs? and I bought a laptop hard disk from Newegg (to be received in a few days). Remember my internal 60GB hard disk has not crashed yet, but the writings are on the wall, so I have stopped using it. How should I proceed now to install windows 7 on my new internal 2.5? disk? After I replace my failing HD with my new HD, do I boot it with my recovery disk? And does it make use of my c:/ image ?somehow?? I really appreciate any comments on this before I go down this route: remember my disk has not crashed yet, so let me know what I should be doing before plunging down this route. Also remember I do not have a full installation disk for win7, just an upgrade disk for home premium. Thanks!

Hi,
I have a WD1002FAEX (WD Black 1TB) that has started to show signs of failure. A few months ago it would load larger files slowly and buffer sometimes when watching videos. As of this week though, it's loading everything slowly and even SD video buffers every few seconds. It does not appear any data is corrupted, as I haven't had any files that did not play/work (despite freezing/buffering all the time).

What is my absolute safest option to get my data copied to elsewhere? **** the drive itself, I can RMA it, I just need my data safe and sound.

Answer:Failing drive; best way to transfer off data?

Hello Mark,

If able, the safest way would be a straight copy and paste of any files or folders you do not want to lose to another hard drive.

Hope this helps.

I'm having a problem when transferring large files between my network, and not sure what the cause is.

I'm trying to transfer files from my wired desktop to my wireless laptop, and smaller files seem to transfer okay. Whenever I try to transfer a really large file, however, the internet and connectivity totally drops on my desktop (which is giving the file) and causes the laptop to lose the file. The desktop computer stays offline for about 1-2 minutes afterward before it either starts up again on its own or I reset the network adapter. I suppose it's important to note as well that the file transfer can fail at the very beginning, in the middle, or even at the very end, but my desktop computer always loses its connection whenever the interruption happens... but sometimes it can successfully get almost all the way through the file transfer.

http://forums.techguy.org/networking/768807-cannot-copy-___-specfied-network.html
I tried following some of the steps in this case to confirm that I can ping and do all that jazz to my laptop and all of the services are running, since our problems seem similar. I've disabled all firewalls as well. However, since one computer is actually wired to the router, I don't think the solution will be quite the same.

Anyway, looking for some help, and glad to provide any additional information that I can. Let me know what I can do.

We have an old sony viao computer running Windows XP (Home ed). It runs safemode's bootstrap for a moment before It gives me a BSOD of UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME, with STOP: 0x000000ED(0x873493A0, 0x000009C, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). The disk also makes a lot of clicking noises whenever it moves, so I'm pretty sure it's failing.

Is there any tools to transfer data from the damaged, unbootable harddrive to an external harddrive?

Answer:Harddrive failing, unbootable. want to transfer data

deletesystem32 what you could do is connect this drive as a secondary drive to a desktop and see if it will be detected, from Windows or a live bootable disc. You can also try to connect the drive to a IDE/SATA to USB 2.0 Cable Adapter you can purchase from tigerdirect or newegg, to see if it be detected so you can try and grab the data off. A lot of the times when a drive is inaccessible there isn't a whole lot that you personally won't be able to do with it.
A mechanical failure means that your drive has broken parts that are preventing it from working?busted drives often make a telltale clicking sound as they futilely attempt to access their files. If you hear that, your data may still be there, but you're not getting it back without calling in the experts

Hi,

I have a very funny feeling my hard drive may be failing, today I was working normally on my computer (nothing intensive) and the colours suddenly went a bit messed up, it went into windows basic colour scheme too. I have gpu and cpu meters and I noticed both of them shot up when this happened. I got worried, saved all my work and restarted immediately, it started ok.

When It happened I could have sworn I heard a very faint screaming sound coming from possibly the hdd and now I am noticing some clicking sounds (after restarting) but tbh they are quiet and maybe I'm just noticing them because I'm thinking about.

Also I just got a new gpu which is much quieter so maybe I'm hearing more now.

The clicking noises (which I'm still not sure if where there before) are coming from the hdd, as I've unplugged the gpu and started up and I could definitely hear them from the hdd)

Although it appears to be running ok now. I would like to know the cleanest and simplest way to clone my hdd to another a new hdd so I can simply carry on using my windows with all the software as it was.....just in case it does fail. I've backed up anything important so its not the end if goes pop right now.....i hope it doesn't though kinda need my pc.

Also I havn't got round to changing my info, this is about my desktop not laptop.

Now the HD is a lot louder and won't last much longer.I've rooted around my house and found a 250GB replacement that is new and has Ubuntu on it. I'm willing to format the drive and give it her as a replacement. The current HD has a 13GB recovery partition, (C) is 110GB with 65GB free and the (D) partition is 110GB and is empty. So how do I transfer the recovery partition and (C) partition to the new hard drive? Her HD is NTFS so should I format the new drive to NTFS?I also have a 2TB external drive maybe I could use that?Does the replacement HD need to be same name as old HD? I am attempting to reconfigure my Win 7 PC so that it automatically updates my drivers through the use of the Device Installation Settings feature. Though, when I go to Device and Printers and RIGHT click on a device I do not get all the options that include Device Installation Settings.

As seen on this Microsoft tech support page - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2500967
Does anyone know why I'm not getting the right click option and access this feature?

Answer:Not seeing Device Installation Settings feature in Win 7

Are you RIGHT-clicking on the icon for your computer, per the article?

I just tried it in Windows 8.1 and had no problems.

By default, it is set up to install the drivers.

Hello,
I?m having trouble loading Windows 7 64bit Home Premium onto my system. This is a fresh build, with all brand new components (see below for list). I am getting the following Error while installing:
?Windows cannot install required files. The file does not exist. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070002?

After clicking OK, pressing the ?Install Now? button brings up the screen where my HD should be present but shows no HD. After using the reset button the HD is again viewable.

I have tried several times now to load windows with the same result. The install fails at random points during the install process, but always during the ?Expanding Windows Files?. This is my first build and set-up, and feeling rather lost at this point. Any help would be great!

Answer:The Install Wizard Will Complete The Suspended Installation Of A Feature

<<The highlighted volumes do not have enough disk space available for the currently selected features. You can remove files from the highlighted volumes, choose to install less features onto local drives, or select different destination drives.>>

I suspect that this is the reason for the failed install, insufficient space on the hard drive.

I also suspect that the install will proceed normally if you move sufficient files from the hard drive to another partition, DVD, whatever.

So the first thing I would suggest is disk cleanup, emptying the Recycle Bin, removal of all unnecessary data files, and moving all video, graphics, text, and word files to another location.

How many partitions or hard drives do you have and how much free space is on each?

I've never had a failed install (other than RC2 of XP SP3) which did not immediately spell out what the problem might be.

I'd appreciate some help here if possible. My Asus is being a serious jerk after being invaded by some malware stuff thanks to a childish friend of mine. I got rid of most of that ( i think all of it). it seems my registry has been corrupted. The computer is running poorly, driver issues and freezing so i decided to do a repair installation to hopefully save some of my data. I'm pretty sure going about it the right way, being logged in already and running the set up from within the OS. It's not an OEM windows.

It won't let me do the 'Upgrade' using my one and only Win7 enterprise disc, the same installation disc used for the current OS. After it does the compatibility testing it is saying that my current installation is more up to date than the disc. Also it tells me these two drivers should be updated before upgrading:

-Intel Management engine Interface
- ATK0100 ACPI utility.
I checked these and both are allegedly up to date.
(When i do find an available driver update i get either "Access is denied" or "Can not find the file specified".)

I figured I would ask Sevenforums for some advice before i bite the bullet and do a fresh install without backing up data since i don't have the wherewithal to do this currently.

How is it that you have Enterprise on an Asus notebook which ships with Home Premium? Is it being adminstered by an IT Pro in your company or organization as Enterprise does?

If not I suggest you use the licensed version on the COA sticker to do a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Everything you need is provided. The steps given will assure you get and keep a perfect install.

Hello
I recently installed WinXP Pro to a new hard drive, and I thought everything was going smoothly, but as I started installing software I regularily use, I get an error saying the Installation was cancelled and the software couldnt be installed. Its usually at the very end of installation, when it says 'registering product'.
This is happening with Itunes and Quicktime Standalone player. Also my CD-Rom isn't being detected anymore since my last restart.
As well as my ATI Control Panel will not open up, but the drivers are installed.
I'm at my wits end trying to get some software reinstalled.

I'm sure I have the latest Installer. Could it be something I might have disabled in Services.msc?

Have you been disabling things in your services? because that could certainly be the problem. If you can change things back the way they were...and don't change them again unless you are certain you know what you are doing.

Hello All,I've recently had some problems installing software, with the worst example being PhotoDirector 4 by CyberLink, which installs with no text appearing anywhere on the GUI. Other problems involve programs not appearing in the Start Menu, or appearing out of proper (alphabetical) order. The first time this happened I ran various tests and found I had system files that were corrupt but couldn't be fixed (per the SFC report); after a failed attempt at repairing, and because it was a 4 year old used drive, I elected to replace it. This took care of the SFC scan problem (repeated runs of SFC came back with no problems), and the Windows Update Readiness Tool (SFC on steroids) also came back clean. With SFC and WURT running clean I took an image of my hard drive at that point in time. A couple of days later I tried installing PhotoDirector and wound up with the interface without any text. I immediately ran both SFC and WURT tests expecting them to fail, but both came back with no errors found. As a further attempt to resolve the problem, I used the backup image to restore my C:\ drive to the state it was in just after installing Windows 7 (SP1, 64 Bit Home Premium). No luck, PhotoDirector refuses to install properly. And as this is part of a larger giveaway I am aware that hundreds of people have successfully installed the program. I have downloaded the install file twice, each from different servers, all without a successful install. I don't know what else to try or look at fo... Read more

Hello,

A while ago my boss told me I needed a laptop, so I bought a nice second hand one, and bought a fresh new copy of Win7 SP1. It always worked fine, until the laptop died.
My boss bought me a nice new laptop, but we found out that some programs don't run well on Win10. We also have an outdated server setup, and Win10 seems to have some problems with it.

So we decided that I need to go back to Win7 64bit. And I decided to start reading up on that UEFI thing. I double checked that my Acer E5-721 has UEFI activated.

Via the tutorials on this forum I found out that I need a UEFI compatible ISO from Windows. The one I have is not. Apparantly I need BOOTx64.EFI in the EFI folder. Which I don't have.

So I unpacked the ISO, and unpacked INSTALL.WIM to find the BOOTMFGR.EFI file, and copied it to the EFI folder. I then used IMGBURN to turn it all back into an ISO and Rufuc to create me a bootable USB.

But it just don't work. I don't get the Win7 install screen. The laptop either goes to Win10 or gives me a screen that says: "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. Status: 0xc000000f."

I also tried to put the required EFI files into the BOOT folder (seeing as some tutorial I found via Google suggested it). But nothing seems to work.

Can somebody help me to fix this??

I got to the windows update page, it loads and does it's thing checking for latest updates. It says I have to download SP3 first before I download the other critical updates. Every time I try to however, I click install updates then a second later the license terms comes up. I click accept, the bar loads all the way up in about a second or two then says installation failed, and goes to the "Some updates were not installed" Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929).

So then I tried to download the ISO image for SP3, downloaded it burnt it to a disk and ran it. After it extracted all the files and everything, a pop up came up saying "Access Denied" for the SP3 setup.

Also my last computer had the "endless reboot" problem from SP3, so they shipped a replacement. It's the same one with an AMD processor. I tried use the " removeIntelPPMonAMD" fix it said "The computer appears to have an AMD processor, the intelppm does not exist on this computer you should be ready to install SP3". So once I can get the update fixed, will it be safe to install. Considering the last computer I had did the endless rebooting. I never got to check on the last computer if that was the reason why.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using Windows XP SP2 btw.

EDIT: I Finally got SP3 to work (from the ISO) but still all my downloads from Microsoft Update site are failing. Can anyone help?

Answer:Windows Updates installation failing

I have about 450 something mb's of critical updates that need to be downloaded (because my automatic updates wasn't working because of a virus, i got help with that in the hijack forums) but it'll come up say installing updates and the bar will load so quickly (like 5 seconds) so I know its not even downloading them, and they all fail.

I have a Gateway DX4831 desktop PC which is currently running Genuine Windows? 7 Home Premium 64-bit, I am trying to install Windows 8 using the download assistant.

I have uninstalled all of the software that the assistant recommended that I review and I have updated Windows 7 and have also unistalled the antivirus software.

All additional hardware i.e. webcam, external HD are disconnected.

The PC is connected to a 55" TV via HDMI cable from the Graphic card (ATI 4600)

I am attempting to install without keeping my personal files and apps (clean)

I get as far as the ?getting devices ready? which reaches 100% but then the PC switches off, when I restart the computer it gives me the error message that the installation failed and my previous OS will be loaded, which the restarts windows 7.

Any suggestions on what could be causing the issue..? I have looked on the Gateway website but they have no information concerning this...

thanks for any tips or tricks..

Hello there.
My brother just bought a new computer, but unfortunately it won't work. These are the specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2,4GHz
Inno3D Geforce 7950GT
ASUS P5N32-SLI Premium
2x1024 Corsair XMS2
520W Corsair PSU
WD 200GB SATA-300 HD

The computer starts fine and all and I boot on a Windows XP Professional disc. It loads everything and shows the EULA, which I accept.
The first thing I notice is, that it only shows 131GB unpartitioned harddrive space, while in the BIOS it did recognize it as 200GB. Nonetheless, I try to start formating. When it gets to 20%, it suddendly jumps to 100% and says something like "It wasn't possible to format. Your harddrive might be damaged. Make sure you install the SCSI drivers (or whatever it said)."

I just can't format, and I read that it might be because my boot cd doesn't have any SATA drivers on it, and since I don't have a floppy drive installed at the moment, I read it was possible to create a new boot cd. So I grabbed the drivers from the ASUS cd and used a program called nLite to integrate the drivers into the Windows installation and burned a new cd. However, my results didn't differ at all.

What is wrong?

So I'm guessing that youre Hard Drive IS in fact damaged. If you have another Hard drive just lying around, you should try to install on that one to see if windows will install on it. As for the 131GB of space on the windows installation, have you tried to change that in the BIOS? there could be a setting in there that is preventing it from seeing the full 200.

Hi there,

I have recently purchased a few computer parts and upgraded my computer. After putting it together, I switched it on and went to install windows 7 (hardware changes stop me booting my previous installation). (Note: I was previously using this windows 7 on my old mobo etc.) However, once it does the 'Loading Windows Files...' bit, I get an error message as follows:

"WINDOWS BOOT MANAGER

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "next"
3. Click "repair your computer."

File: ntoskrnl.exe

Status: 0xc0000098

Info: Windows failed to load because a required file is missing or corrupt."

This occurs straight after the files have loaded, thus I cannot get to the repair part, or check HDD partitions etc. I have tried using both sticks of the RAM seperately, to no avail. I have also unplugged both my HDDs and also tried both of my DVD drives. I have also tried upgrading the BIOS to version 1.4, which doesn't solve the problem. Any help or suggestions would be great, thanks.

Here are the new parts to my system:

Motherboard: MSI P55-CD53 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard.
CPU:Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156).
RAM: OCZ Obsidian 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 Dual Channel OCZ3OB1600LV4GK).

And I am trying to install Windows 7 64-bit.

I have been attempting to install MS SQL 2005 Express on my X61s. SQL Express is a required component for Microsoft's Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007. Each time I try to install the SQL 2005 Express install fails - causing the whole BCM install process to fail. I don't see any info on MS Tech forums. Has anyone else had this issue and is there a work around? OS is XP Pro (sp3); firewall is off (but if it were running it is Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP)). Office 2007 is patched to current patch list. Thanks!!

How did you create your USB key, was it with MS's Media Creation tool?

Did you make the appropriate changes in BIOS recommended in tutorial below?

I have read the tutorials and the many posts on this topic so apologise for creating another post on an old topic. I am hoping I am being an idiot and have just missed something really simple.

Scenario 1: Created UEFI bootable USB, using Rufus, configured BIOS with CMS disabled and Secure Boot enabled. USB drive is recognised in BIOS as UEFI and selectable as a boot option. Windows files show as loading and then it sits with the Windows logo doing nothing.

Scenario 2: Created 'normal' bootable USB, using the Windows Download Tool, configured BIOS with CMS enabled and Secure Boot disabled. USB drive is recognised in BIOS but not as a boot option. Get a message prompting to insert boot media.

I don't have a DVD drive so USB is my only boot option. The system is a 3XS Scan custom build but the OS stopped recognising mouse and keyboard even in safe mode so I opted to wipe the hard drive and start with a fresh build. The OS was being unstable anyway and it was time for a clean install.

This is the first time I've tried a build since UEFI has started rolling out and it's nowhere near as straight forward as it used to be... Just used to pop a USB or (remember these...) a floppy to a basic command line to set up the partitions and load up the OS. So, what I am really saying is that I am utterly clueless in this new world order and will need handholding...

Thank you for any help and suggestions.

Prior to the system being unable to boot, it was experiencing a few (related?) issues: intermittent wifi, mystery network connection (?), lagging browser, warbly and slowed Spotify, etc. I'm hoping that it's not the HDD failing, considering that I've years of family photos that I was in the process of backing up when this occurred.
I'm fairly savvy, but this is stumping me, and I've perused a few of the similar posts on the topic here, so I'm hoping to find a solution on this forum. To sum up:
1. Boots into System Repair, hangs on "Searching for Windows installations" at best,
2. it won't boot into Safe Mode, just falls back on error screen allowing for System Repair or boot normally (latter leads to #1 above)
3. Tried booting from install (disc and usb, both), but no change.
4. Tried running portable Win8 from usb, but only blue screened.
The last thing that was processing was a driver auto-install for the new wireless keyboard, though I'm having trouble blaming this all on that alone.
Any help would very much be appreciated. I'm wanting desperately to salvage memories and back them up like I should have long ago. Thanks!

Answer:HDD failing or virus? Hangs at "Searching for installation" in Sys Repair

You can make a repair disk on another Windows 7 computer that's 32 or 64 bit the same as yours. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Backup and restore -> Create system repair disc. Insert a blank CD-R. Then you can boot from it and try the repair from that. If that doesn't work, you can boot to the Command Prompt from that disc and use the XCOPY command to copy your data. If you need the syntax, just type XCOPY /?. You can also check your hard drive from the Command Prompt by issuing this command: sfc /scannow.

Good luck,

Hello,
I'm attempting to get my XPS 15 9560 ready for the TB-16 dock. I've been struggling with it for a couple weeks now and earlier today used Windows Fresh Start to delete all drivers and try again.
Following the proper order of manual installations I have so far:
- Updated the bios to 1.5.0 - Installed Intel Thunderbolt Controller Driver - 16.3.61.275 ,A03- attempted to install Intel(R) Thunderbolt 3 Firmware Update - 4.21.04.003 ,A02
This is where the problem occurs. After preparing the installation the installer for the thunderbolt firmware fails, reporting
"the Intel thunderbolt controller driver needs to be updated before the thunderbolt firmware can be updated. Please visit Dell website to download the latest version and update the driver. Then re-run this utility"I have redownloaded and removed then installed the Thunderbolt Controller driver a few times not but it still isn't recognized by the Thunderbolt Firmware as being new enough. Here's a screenshot from the Thunderbolt software details pane.Any help to get the Firmware installed would be very much appreciated. Please let me know if there is other information needed to diagnose. Thanks,
Nick

Answer:[SOLVED] Installation of Windows XP & Office Updates Keep Failing

Give this a try:
There are a number of things that can break Windows Update in Windows XP, including performing a repair/reinstall. For a fix, try these next steps:

Open Notepad or WordPad and copy/paste the following text:

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 msxml2.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
end

Save the file to your desktop as UpdatesFix.cmd (you'll have to click the "Save As Type…. Dropdown arrow on the right of the selection window and select "All Files" before you click the Save button).

If you'd rather not try the batch file, you can enter each line in the Run box one at a time and click OK after each one.

Double-click the UpdatesFix.cmd file; a command window will open, and you'll see a series of dialogue boxes saying DLLRegisterServer in *.dll succeeded. Click OK to step through the process.
Once all the dll's have been successfully reregistered visit the Windows Update site and try the Windows updates again to see if it works correctly.
Often you will have to download and install Windows Installer 3.1 and the Windows Genuine Advantage tool before you can download any more updates.

Lenovo y50 i7 geforce 860 non touch version.
Windows 8.1

Background
I have had mi notebook for about 1.5 months now. Since the beginning I have had problems with the drivers, having to reinstall the sound, mouse and bluetooth drivers. Ocasionally, the PC would fail to shut off, usually freezing while trying to close windows.

The problem:
Last wednesday, oct 14, I restarted my PC to install some windows updates. The install was not successful, after at least two hours of showing the message "Installing update 7 of 17. Please dont turn off your PC" (and yes it was update 7 of 17 all the time) I decided to turn the computer off. Afterwards the windows repair would start on my next boot up but It failed on several ocations to start windows.
After unsuccessfully trying to restore the PC to its state before the windows update and failing to boot on safe mode I had to recover to the original windows image that came with the system (keeping my files but uninstallinge everything)

After the recovery I proceeded to install my olf programs and everything went ok until last night, oct 18, when again a windows update failed to finish. This time the Pc froze while restarting on the LENOVO logo. I left the computer like that all the night but it remained frozen. Tired I shut it off just to see that again windows repair would fail and the computer wouldnt boot.

Is this problem due to my PC not working, are the drivers the problem or is it windows update fault... Read more

Answer:Y50 - Computer wont start after failing update installation

Everything should work 100% with the OEM build and OS assuming its Win 8.1 64bit. If not its most likely a hardware problem. Drivers supplied even though older should work as they must have been certified for the build at Lenovo. Upgrading them may add enhancements and improved functionality. If the Computer is having problems now. Switching to a different OS complicates the diagnosis since Window 10 has plenty of trouble with these system (have you not read the tread you just posted within???) You need to call the tech support team and have them fix or repair your machine. I removed my flash drive, and that let me get through the install phase during windows update. Once the computer restarted I got into the Windows 10 "preparing to setup" screen, and immediately the computer rebooted and started back up with the previous version of Windows. Since then I've tried using the media creation tool, and get the SAFE_OS error every time. (the update no longer shows up in settings) Awhile back I moved the UEFI boot files to a different partition, so windows wouldn't interfere with my Linux install. I even tried removing a duplicate and dead Windows EFI entry from the boot list, booting up with Secure boot enabled, and skipping rEFInd manager to go directly to the Windows boot manager. Does anyone know of any possible fixes?

Hi,

I have a PC with Windows 7 ultimate installed. I'm planning on purchasing a custom built Pc soon and was wondering whether i am able to transfer my current installation of Windows 7 ultimate to my new PC? I don't have the windows 7 installation disc but it is activated and have the product ID (from the properties windows after right clicking my computer) if it helps.

I would have expected Microsoft to have something that allows this but haven't found one. I've only found an application on Windows 7 called Windows easy transfer, but this only transfers files etc and not the actual Windows 7.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

I'm upgrading to a new ASUS motherboard, new chipset (x79 to x99) and a new processor. I'm going to try to run my current Windows 10 installation (a retail copy - not OEM) without reinstalling from scratch.

On the previous install (after backing everything up) I removed as many of the old system drivers as made sense (USB3, graphics, etc..) and deactivated any software that needed that. I'm close to ready to see what happens. If it all fails then I'll just reinstall from scratch - which I'll do anyway on some rainy day. I'm just interested in seeing how well Windows 10 will cope with such a change of hardware - though it's still an ASUS Deluxe board, a recent Intel Chipset, and a fairly recent processor.

BUT - HERE'S THE QUESTION: When one makes such a major hardware change Windows10 will certainly complain and require reactivation. But is there any grace period??

I'm hoping I might have a couple of days to confirm that everything works properly before having to call Microsoft. If there's a serious hardware issue then I would have to revert back to my old hardware until any problems are resolved.

Does anyone here know what will likely happen? I'm just concerned that I might be stuck with a computer that's locked until reactivated and then find that there's a serious problem with the new system.

Answer:Transfer installation to new hardware

Windows 10 will de-activate on the first boot on the new hardware. The only thing you will lose is some of the personalization settings customization and you will start getting nag screens to activate Windows 10.

Hi there,

I am familiar with transferring an Win 7 OS to different hardware (ie, without doing a clean install)
But is it possible to transfer from say 'Windows 7 Enterprise' to 'Windows 7 Ultimate', both 64 bit.

What I am trying to avoid is having to reinstall a zillion programs, that's the goal!

Any ideas?

Anyway, I have 3 36GB raptors in software raid that I install most of my programs on, is windows going to be able to rebuild this array from the drive ID's when a new m/b is installed or ... not?

I haven't tested it myself, but from what I understand if you set it up the RAID array through Windows you should have zero problems migrating it to another installation.

My machine won't boot up unless I disconnect all of the Hard Drives. I still have my two SSD's (RAID 1) that have Windows 7 Professional installed still running fine.

I had one hard drive ST4000NM0023 (4TB) fail (had four of them), and so I replaced two of them with ST10000NM0096 (10TB) drives.

I had software backing up the failed drive, which was my D: (Documents & Program Files) drive. The backup drive F: (D Backup) has now been renamed my D: Drive, and I transferred all of it's files to a new F: backup drive.

I had to copy & paste everything from one folder over to another one of the same name because Windows 7 had automatically installed new folders with the proper icons on them (as per attached image). I had two of "My Pictures", "My Documents", etc.., with one having an icon and one not.

It seems like I had to move my files to the new folders or else my other programs couldn't seem to find the files they needed even though the the folders had the same name, minus the icon.

Copying files from folder to folder was very time consuming, and used all of the systems memory. I would successfully reboot the system after each successful transfer so I could restore the RAM back to 64GB.

I left the largest folder "My Documents" till last. After I successfully transferred the files in this folder over to the new "My Documents" folder with the icon on it, I tried rebooting the system and it would not work. I ... Read more

Hi,

First post coming up....

I have created a profile snapshot, using Windows Easy Transfer (WET) on a 32bit XP machine and have placed the resulting file on a network drive.
I then went to my new 64bit W7 pc and downloaded what I believed to be the correct WET version - wet7xp_x64. However, when I ran the executable I received a message "The version of Windows you have installed does not match the update you are trying to install."
I'm running W7 Pro SP1 and have Sophos installed. However Sophos didn't have a problem on the XP machine so don't think it's that.

Any thoughts anyone?

Answer:Windows 7 Easy Transfer installation problem

Hi Andy, welcome to the Seven Forums.

You don't need to install WET on Windows Seven, it's built-in. Just type Easy Transfer on Start Menu > Search field to find it.

I would just like to hear it from somene that has moved over everything from one hard drive to another. If I could reinstall the software there wouldn't be any problems, but I need to have all my data transferred including the software programs without any re-installation. Thanks DK

I recall reading some time ago about a new feature in Windows 7 for user generated error reporting that would allow a user to record their desktop / take periodic screenshots while they replicated an error, which would then allow them to forward / email the report to someone who could offer help.

I can't seem to locate this feature in Windows 7 Ultimate, and i'm having trouble locating any articles talking about the feature.

Was it removed or am i not looking hard enough?

Thanks.

Hi folks,Decided today to pay attention to the Desktop Cleanup Feature pop-up ballon and run it. After clicking on "Finish", XP threw up another pop-up box with the message:Cannot move file: The file name you specified in not valid or too long. Specify a different file name.My problem with this message is that the wizard at no point asked me for a file name!!Having used this feature before, I know it places a floder called "Unused Desktop Shortcuts" or "Unused Icons" on the desktop and this is what I was expecting to happen.Any ideas anyone?TIA.Tj_El

Answer:Desktop Cleanup Feature Error

An icon or file on the desktop has an unusual character in its name, clear out anything you don't need manually and look for odd names, especially where names include boxes in place of text or odd characters.

Recently I have noticed a third party application we are using in our company has not been working properly on certain computers. I contacted the vendor for support, and they said I should check if My Computer under Control Panel-->Administrative
Tools-->Component Services--> Computers has a red line through it. On all the computers where the app is not working, this line appears indicating that there is a problem with Component Services.
Doing some further research on the internet, I have found several posts that indicate that if a computer was setup using Easy Transfer, that this leads to a "broken" Component Services.
And indeed---every one of the computers with a broken Component Services was one that had been setup for a new user by using Easy Transfer. The issue with Component Services does not appear on computers that were a "clean" install.
So--I know my third-party app is not working properly because of a problem in COM+. There is info to indicate that using Easy Transfer somehow "breaks" Component Services---but no one seems to know how it does this. There is also no clear advice
or info on how to fix it properly. Just some general advice to "reinstall Windows".
Can anyone advise if it is possible to re-install or fix COM+ Component Services WITHOUT having to do a complete reinstall of Windows? I have setup quite a few pcs in my company using the... Read more

Answer:Component Services (COM+) re-installation or repair: using Easy Transfer to setup a new pc breaks COM+????

Windows Easy Transfer helps you transfer your files, email, pictures and settings when moving to a new PC; Component Services are system components that cannot be transferred by means of Windows Easy Transfer.
You could try using the Windows 7 Recovery feature to perform a sort of "in place re-installation" of Windows 7 that could repair COM+: go to Control Panel -> All Control Panel Items -> Recovery and click the "Advanced recovery methods" link and click
the "Reinstall Windows" option and insert the Windows 7 installation disc.

Hey all,

Ive gone to print a bunch of photos, usually print preview pops up, i select the style I want to print out, 1 pic per page, 4 pics per page or wallet size etc etc.

But its completely gone!
My pc is HP Touchsmart 610a, i5, windows 7 ulitmate, about 3yrs old now

Have never had this issue before. I uninstalled my old printer about 3 weeks ago, was a HP photosmart.
And now have a Canon Pixmar MG6460 since then. I have printed plenty on it, but not many photos, but last time, print preview was working like normal

I have a Acer i7 notebook on W8.1, the same Canon printer is set up on the notebook over a shared network & print preview works normal just as it should.

I did a system check via SFC.exe, system file checker tool, my pc came up fine, no issues at all.
I managed to find & make sure that the box for 'show print preview' was checked, but after checking the box, preview still is a no go

anyother issue im having is with windows help... i click the Question mark & get this error, every single time....

I found a fix for it via a microsoft, but that supposed fix did nothing.

any have idea ideas or dealt with either of these issues?

Answer:Print Preview not working & Windows Help feature error - help

no ones got either of these issues? help?

When I open my LAN properties only "Client for Microsoft Networks" is seen.If I click on it and try to install any Client,Service or Protocol I get the following error : " Could not add the requested feature. The error is: The system cannot find the file specified"
But my network is working fine.I am writing this message from the affected computer.
What's the problem?

Now I tried to follow this post:
Missing network
where a user named "Steve Winograd" said
"Go to Device Manager and un-install the network adapter for the Local Area Connection. Then, click Action > "Scan for hardware changes" to re-install the network adapter."
But after uninstalling the adapter I am not able to install it back by doing - Action > "Scan for hardware changes".The list just refreshes once and the adapter is still missing!

What do I do now?

Answer:Could not add the requested feature. The error is: The system cannot find the file sp

Hi new1user and welcome to Vista Forums

Did you restart your PC? If not, restart it and you should find that the adapter is redetected when you reboot and that the driver should be reinstalled automatically.

Been awhile since I've been here so I hope this is where this post goes.
Recently I had to uninstall a program, and now when I try to re-install it I get the following error: "Installation ended prematurely because of an error"
I have installed other program without a hitch since I first tried to install the problem program.
It gives me no error code just the message above.
I've searched the internet (I hate the term searched the web) and have found numerous "fixes" yet none have worked.
I know the info above is sparse, so if anyone thinks they can help please let me know what I can add for your help.
Thanks,
Bobb

Answer:Installation fails: Installation ended prematurely because of an error

Some things you could try - in no particular order:
Clear your Temp folder. Type %TEMP% in Run box to open it. Dlete all its contents. Run Disk Cleanup Tool too. Then try to install it.
Else try to install it in Clean Boot state.
Check if your Windows Installer service is up and running. Open services.msc and ensure that the Windows Installer service is set to Manual. Start it manually if it is not started. If it refuse to start, this post may help you.
Else visit this link. Download SafeMSI and enable the Windows Installer Service in Safe Mode. Then try to install it. Hope something helps!
