Uninstalling a program completely

Question: Uninstalling a program completely

HI Guys...

I recently uninstalled a program from my computer to install the latest version of that same program but during the installation it keeps telling me that "A previous installation of that program has been found. This installation needs to be removed before you can go on with the new installation.... NB. That i have uninstalled the program. Its not even visible in my Add and Remove list...

Can anyone help me out please....

Preferred Solution: Uninstalling a program completely

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Uninstalling a program completely

Welcome to Seven forums.

Go to C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86) and delete folders with the program's name and re-try the install.
Also use CCleaner and run the registry cleaner function. See the link in my sig, download the free "no thanks" version.

I'm a little frustrated with the Windows "Add/Remove Programs", as all it does in most cases is run the uninstaller that comes with a program; but often the program uninstaller will still leave behind configuration files, registry entries, etc, and I find this really frustrating when I'm trying to wipe a program cleanly off my computer.

What I want is simply a complete uninstaller that removes all files, registry entries, and any other traces of the program so my HDD so that everything that the program did to change my system is perfectly undone.

I know of programs like Revo Uninstaller and Zsoft Uninstaller that can work pretty well in most cases, but what I really would like is a uninstaller program that I run while I install some program, and the uninstaller program will watch exactly what changes are taking place, record them, and then undo them when I decide to remove the installed program in question. I think programs like InstallSpy do this, but they are commercial.

So, does anyone know of a free program that can do this? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi guys

Need you help again

I have recently changed ISP's from AOL, I have unistalled AOL the usual way but was told by a friend that not all files deposited by the AOL Install are removed when doing an uninstall. I already have discovered this with my IE5 browser which still says 'provided by AOL'

Is there any way of finding out if aol files are still installed on my sytstem and is there any way of removing them completely and safely from my computer.

Hope you can help

Thanks

Answer:Uninstalling Aol Completely

Go to registry and do an Edit\Find and keeping clicking F3 until you get rid of all instances of AOL. Do the same with Find Files.

You can change your IE & OE branding with this:

<a href="http://www.scotfinnie.com/newsletter/best_of/ispbrnds.htm"><font color="Red">Change IE & OE Titlebar</font></a>

There is probably some program that will do the elimation of AOL from your pc but I do it manually.

Hi Guys!
Newbie here, but eager to learn all I can about my computer. When the phone guy came out to install my internet he installed mozilla for me.I decided I did not want it,so I went through the proper uninstall procedures(add/remove programs).
The problem is,whenever I would add a desktop shortcut thereafter I would get a box saying"windows cannot mozilla.exe".
Well I managed to figure out that windows was looking for mozilla to open the shorcut with and since I had deleted it,it could not open.I know where I have to go to fix this(file types)but I dont know what to do from there.Im using XP Professional.
However,I did change something(not sure what)and now when I add a new shortcut explorer will open, but I'll get that screen saying "page cannot be displayed"Also,I had a look at my registry and mozilla still has files in there.I know newbies are not supposed to go near the registry but if I know excatly where it is and what it is can I just delete it?Thanks for any help anyone can give.

I was using Panda and now am not. I used CCleaner to uninstall, but it left behind something(s). This error message comes up when I open the email program, Outlook 2003 (run under Windows XP Home Edition):

"The add-in C:\Program Files\Panda Software\Panda Antivirus Platinum\PAV? could not be installed or loaded. This problem may be resolved by using Detect and Repair on the Help Menu."

I also subsequently did those steps that were still applicable from an earlier post to this forum, as follows:

"Open the Registry from Start, Run, write REGEDIT, and click on OK. Highlight 'My Computer' at the top of the list, then go to 'Edit' and 'Find'. Type 'panda' into the box and then click on 'Find Next'. This will search the Registry for panda files. When it brings up a folder or file, press 'delete' or right-click on the highlighted file/folder and select 'delete' from the menu to remove it. Then press 'F3' to search again and find the next Panda entry.

"Continue to search and delete Panda entries in the Registry until no more entries are found. Then repeat this process, this time searching for 'pav'. When both searches are complete, close the Registry and restart the computer.

"Once this operation has been carried out, using Windows Explorer delete the Panda Software folder that is below C:\Program files. You should also delete the following files Window... Read more

Hi guys,

Having problems getting rid of McAfee Internet Suite 8. I uninstalled it as per add/remove programs in the Control Panel, but when I start Outlook I am getting error messages saying it cannot find outscan.dll and the "McAfee VirusScan Outlook Email Scanner is not loaded".

I uninstalled it all without a problem, but obviously something is still there. This comes up in a HiJack log:

O23 - Service: McAfee WSC Integration (McDetect.exe) - Unknown owner - c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcdetect.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: McAfee.com McShield (McShield) - Unknown owner - c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcshield.exe (file missing)

O23 - Service: McAfee.com VirusScan Online Realtime Engine (MCVSRte) - Unknown owner - c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsrte.exe (file missing)

Is there any other way to do an uninstall? My System Mechanic 5 does not recognise the MCAfee as being installed and I'm far too amateur to go messing with the registry!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks, Fybo.

Hello, I am trying to completely uninstall Sonic DLA in Windows XP. I removed the program from the Windows "Add/Remove Programs", but there are still several traces of the program left on my PC. I am receiving a warning message when I try to delete one of the folders and I wanted to be sure that these files were not used by any other programs. There are no other Roxio/Sonic programs on my PC

The first is the following folder: "C:\Program Files\Sonic\DLA" (there are 31 files in this folder)

I was able to delete this folder without any problems

The second folder is located in: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic\Update Manager" (there are 10 files in this folder)

When I attempt to delete this folder I receive the warning message “Renaming, moving or deleting ‘Update Manger’ could make some programs not work. Are you sure you want to do this?"

Is it safe to delete this folder with the warning message?

When I performed a file search I also found the following "DLA" files with Sonic as the publisher:

C:\I386\DLA
Type: Configurations Settings

C:\WINDOWS\dla
Description: Drive Letter Access Component
Compnay: Sonic Solutions

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dla
There are 16 files in the folder. All have Sonic Solutions as the publisher

I've run into an issue that I believe was related to a VirtualDNS.dll virus, but it may not be since the HJT log that I posted in another section came out clean. When I got hit with the virus, the most obvious thing that got affected was that my MS officeXP Pro Shortcut toolbar disappeared. It is set to load at bootup and I have been unable to after multiple reboots and every manual execute command that I can think of or find online. When I boot, the little window appears indicating that it is loading the shortcut toolbar, but then nothing appears.
I've run and "cleaned" my system of the VirtualDNS virus, but since I couldn't reinstate the toolbar, I decided to repair, then uninstall office and reinstall. No luck! I came to assume that when an uninstall is initiated, there are registry settings that remain. I reinstalled it into the same folder name as before and when I rebooted, the toolbar never came up. then when I opened outlook, I got the license accept window, but all my contacts, inbox and email settings were intact.

In the end I took a gamble uninstalled again then I exported, then deleted the microsoft/office folders in the local machine and user key in the registry. Lastly, I reinstalled Office into another folder name altogether and after I rebooted, I clicked on the toolbar in the start menu and it came up. So far it is running as it should.

I've got 2 questions...

First off, is it even possible to uninstall a program without it leaving any data, files and such left behind.

With or without the use of an Uninstalling program.

If so, could you please point some out?

Thanks to those with helpful replies.

The best way if using system restore. Restore is just an image before the change
Usually that is not possible, if the change that you want to make existed a long time ago.
The second best method is Revno.

Hello,
Ok so here is my problem.
After uninstalling OE i still have a folder in my program files. i have tried using unlocker software which works until i reboot and then the folder magically reappears, but empty!
i followed some very long winded and complicated instructions i found on the microsoft site and a few other sites like pcstats - going through the registry and renaming all the .dll files, but this also hasn't worked.
im guessing there is a hidden program somewhere that recreates this folder everytime i reboot my system.
having it there isnt causing me any problems, its just become a challenge to delete as
im a bit of a noob to tinkering with windows, and am beginning to realise why ppl hate it so much! In principle i really object, this is my computer and i dont want this folder on it so why shouldnt i be able to delete it?
any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I am giving my grandson our old laptop for Christmas. Since most of the programs on it were factory installed and I can't wipe the HD and replace them, I want to just delete our personal info from the computer. It has AOL version 7.0 on it, but of course our screen names and information are there. I can't totally uninstall AOL because I have no disk to restore it from. My grandson is also on AOL and would need it to be installed on the laptop. Is there a way that I can remove my personal information from the AOL software and leave just the generic program for him to personalize with his own screen names and passwords? I don't have an installation disk for 7.0--I always upgraded the versions via download direct from AOL.

Hello,

My computer is setup to use a 120gb SSD for my OS (Windows 7 ultimate 64bit) and a 2Tb hard drive for my program files, user folders etc. I use junction points to link the program files and user files from C:\ to D:\. This normally works like a charm however I recently updated iTunes and it deleted my C:\Program Files (x86) junction point and created a Program Files (x86) folder on the C:\ drive, this completely roots my system as all my Program Files (x86) are stored on my D:\ drive and now my computer can't find them since the junction point has been deleted. How can it do this and most importantly any reason as to why it's doing this? It's an easy fix on my end as all I have to do is put back in my windows installation disk boot from it and remake the junction point but it's a real pain to do it when it shouldn't happen in the first place.

Also after remaking the Junction point I decided to uninstall iTunes and it once again deleted my junction point while uninstalling.

(Note: My Program Files, and User, junction points have worked as normal and have not been deleted just my Program Files (x86) junction point. I am creating my junction points using the command mklink "C:\Program Files (x86)" "D:\Program Files (x86)" /J)

Does anyone have any ideas to why this is happening? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Nairda.

Hello everyone.  I have a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427 laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium (Service Pack 2), 32 bit, 4 gig ram, Intel T2250 processor (1.73 ghz) with a 110 gig HD.I noticed that my hard drive seemed rather full (only 35.8 gig free).  So I ran windows disk cleanup, I ran CCleaner and I ran Wise Disk Cleaner with only minimal success.  So I looked to see if there were any programs that I could remove (that I don't use).  In the add remove I came across "WeightWatchers On-The-Go", an old program of my wife's, and it said that it was 20.5 gigs.  So, after asking the better half (who didn't even remember the program), I tried to uninstall.  I then received this error:>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.CPP (468PAPP:Weight Watchers On-the-GoPVENDOR:WeightWatchers.com, Inc.(http://www.WeightWatchers.com)PGUID:[email protected]  Service Pack 2 (6002) IE 8.0.6001.18904with an OK button below.  When I click OK, I get this error from InstallShield Wizard:Please do the following:  -Close any running programs  -Empty your temporary folder  -Check your Internet connection (Internet-based Setups)Then try to run the Setup again.Error code:  -5001I've tried to run it in safe mode also, with no avail.  Any help would be appreciated[recovering disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]

Answer:Help uninstalling program

You can either reinstall and then uninstall it, try REVO Uninstaller, or just delete the folder manually (it won't uninstall it, but with a program like that it's no big deal - the files will be gone and the space will be free) and leave the program entries in the registry - no harm done. Also, either disable and then re-enable system restore (note - all restore points will be deleted immediately) or just disable it completely and start using disc imaging software on a regular basis. This will free up a lot of space.

nope, you can uninstall it from anywhere.

rpm -e packagename

I usually query it first:

rpm -q packagename

you don't need the .rpm extension, as well I think.

Hello,
I've been using Windows Vista for years and now have a PC running Windows 8 (.1 or. 2) (is there a 2?)

I'm trying to uninstall a program file (dll) in my program files 86 folder but it says I can't while it's running in windows.
I watched an online video which tells me to open the command prompt but his method doesn't work on my PC.

Can anyone give me instructions on how to get rid of this dll or tell me how to open my windows command prompt so I can try the videos method?

Cheers!

Answer:Uninstalling a Program

One has to be careful with dll files in case they are shared. try renaming it first ProgramName.dll old-- and run your system awhile to see if you get any warnings first, especially at boot up. Then when no problems appear or crashes show up in Reliability History(in the Action Center) then you can unregister the dll.

Open an Admin command prompt by right clicking the windows icon and choose it.

For the path name you can use drag and drop in windows 8 by opening file explorer and dragging the dll to the command prompt after you type regsvr32 /u"
example: regsvr32 /u "C:\Windows\System32\amdmantle64.dll"(this is for an AMD ?graphics dll)
Don't forget quotes
Register dll file

To register a dll or ocx file, open a command prompt windows as an administrator, type the following and hit Enter:regsvr32 ?path & filename of dll or ocx?Unregister dll file

To un-register a dll or ocx file, open a command prompt windows as an administrator, type the following and hit Enter:regsvr32 /u ?path & filename of dll or ocx? This will register or unregister the dll file.

dratul....Just want to clarify something ......is the program your trying to remove part of the Win Xp system ?   If its not and it doesnt show up in the list of installed programs in Control Panel ...ADD/REMOVE programs....I would do this....shut down and reboot in "Safe Mode" ......then go into "my computer " C drive /programs folder ......it should be there ......assuming it is ...high-light the folder and select delete ......if it wont let you do that...open the folder and delete the items one at a time until they are all gone . Then reboot back into normal mode .  Then I would go to the registry and do a search for that program name and remove it .If you have a good registry cleaner use it instead of manually removing .Be sure to make a backup of your registry just in case .let us know how you make out dl65

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

SearchProtect is malware.
Download Junkware Removal Tool, Run it. A DOS window appears. Press Any key. It starts to automatically scan.
Now download ADWCleaner. Run it, Install it. Scan, Leave Everything Checked. Clean. This program asks to Restart computer to finish. Both programs show a text document when done showing the files they have removed.

I re-installed STEAM yesterday and since then it's been giving me trouble. I can run and play it fine (well, there's major connection issues but that's not for here) but when I reboot my computer it just uninstalls itself. I don't see it uninstalling, but when I come back my computer can't locate the steam.exe and my steam folder is missing nearly all the files.

Now, when I was uninstalling steam, I did delete some "Steam" registry files but looking in my registry now, I can see those folders are back.

Any help?

Sounds like it is installing in a temp folder which gets emptied upon reboot. Try changing the path that it installs to a different directory than the default.

Answer:Uninstalling a program

Hello rintobs and welcome to Seven Forums.

It appears that you have a free product called Express-Files on your computer. It's supposed to be a search tool with a built in download manager.

Express Files

The pop-up message you received wasn't attached to your post. I'm guessing it was something like "Do you really want to uninstall this?" A lot of programs try to convince people to keep their product installed and offer an "are you sure" message. If that's the mesage you get, I'd say it's OK to uninstall the program. Once you do, I'd also recommend you run a full antimalware scan just in case it's not what I think it is. You could also use Malwarebytes free as a secondary scan.

I recently did a free download of Active Desktop Calender but decided I didn't want it anymore so I tried to uninstall it. When doing this, in the programs and features I clicked remove program from list. Now when I go into the file location I try to delete it and go through all the administrator stuff it still won't let me remove the program. Any help would be great!

Try Unlocker or LockHunter. Sometimes Explorer shell will hold a file handle open even though the library or exe is closed. Just google for download links.

I downloaded a free CAD program in Feb. of '07. I haven't used it in well over a year and I want to uninstall it. Problem is when I go to "programs and features" to get rid of it, nothing happens. Well, actually something is happening because if I try to click uninstall again, it says "Wait for the current program to uninstall or change".  I can close out of control panel, but when I try to do anything else it completely hangs. I let it set there once for 30 minutes and nothing happened. If anyone has some advice that would be great. Thanks. I have Vista Home Premium

Hi

Having succesfully upgraded from XPSP2 to Vista RC1 on my laptop, I have discovered that my ISPs own AV program PCGuard (Blue Yonder) does not work with Vista.

I have tried uninstalling, although the uninstaller does not execute, stating that the programe requires Windows 98, Windows XP etc etc

I have tried removing from the startup items from Control Panel although the options here are greyed out.

Is there anyway I can remove this program to stop the "failed to initialise" messages each time I start my machine

thanks for any help

you could look at manually uninstalling it but that will be a hard task - alternatively the cover dvd a few issues back had a free copy of cccleaner on it or you can download it for free. The second tab down called issues allow you to uninstall progs and this will do a good job for you.

Whenever I tried to uninstall PowerPoint Presenter Professional Suit 2007, a message will appear:

"Could not open INSTALL.LOG file"

What should I do to uninstall it? :confused

Answer:Uninstalling a Program

This is a permission issue with the log file required by the uninstall.exe file.
Locate and copy the "install.log" file to your desktop (log file location may vary, depends upon your application uninstall.exe shortcut) Then delete the "install.log" file from the original location. Now run the "uninstall.exe" and this should prompt you for the "install.log" file location. Point it to the file now on your desktop.

This should now allow you to uninstall the program.

Good day,
My laptop has been working fine for 6 months until my daughter used it. She installed a program called "I Give-Shopping_Window" which supposedly gives a percentage of things you purchase from stores on their site to a non-profit of your choice. Anyway, I've noticed a major sluggishness since this program has been on here.

I went to control panel and tried to uninstall and got an error message that said there may have been a problem uninstalling and gave me 2 options to choose: "Uninstall using recommended settings" and "This program uninstalled correctly." I chose the first option and it did nothing.

I then went to my C drive and found the folder. I clicked on it and hit delete and was if I really want to move it to the recycle bin and I said yes. Then a window pops up that tells me I need to confirm this operation. I hit continue, another window pops up that says "Windows needs your permission to continue" and I hit continue. THEN I get a window that says, "Destination folder access denied, you need permission to perform this action."

I went to the registry to try and delete it and it's no where to be found! I opened the task manager and lo and behold, it's listed as an actively running program. I clicked on it and hit "End Process" and it didn't do anything!

I just want to get rid of this program and nothing I seem to do is correct. I am really 'stupid' when it comes ... Read more

Hi, I'm kinda new around here. Not 100% sure this belongs under hardware problems, since it isn't really hardware... Anyway, I new with windows Vista 64-bit and have been having problems with WoW. For certain reasons I needed to uninstall and reinstall it, and could not find it under uninstall programs. I reinstalled it and then found that it was then under uninstall programs (WoW), but it still didn't delete everything from the previous installation. My question is, how can I go about cleaning up all the remaining files scattered about? I'm sure there's still things left over in the registry, etc. Would a registry cleaning program do that or do I need to manually go into the registry and find the files (which I'm not sure I want to do...). Plus I'm sure there's other files that weren't just in the registry. It's not a huge deal, I guess, I just don't want any of the old files to cause a conflict when I'm reinstalling the game. I've already had plenty of errors >.< Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Ok So, I have a program, this program is called Lord of the Rings Online - Roheryn. It is specifically a version of the video game client for the MMORPG Lord of the Rings Online (who would have guess huh?..). Now, "Roheryn" is a preview server were the game developers release content before it goes to the live (retail) servers. Since it's a preview server it requires it's own client to keep it seperate from the regular (retail) client.

Now, there was recently an update to the Roheryn client, and I need to UNINSTALL my current version before installing the new one (okay and?), I can't. Simple as that, I am faced with an error message when I click "Uninstall" from the Add/Remove Programs window. I get the same message when I try to use the games uninstall executive file.

often all you have to do is right click on the file in program files and simply select delete. If you download Ccleaner (google it) you can run the cleaner that comes with that which will often find all the loose bits of registry entries and files left over.

How do I stop uninstalling a program?

Answer:stop uninstalling a program

When uninstalling a program there should be a cancel button in the pop-up Window. Clicking that should cancel the uninstall.

Do note though some programs do not have a cancel button and once you uninstall them you'll need to reinstall them.

If the program does uninstall you could still reinstall.

Hello Fellow Forum Posters:

This my first posting in the forum. I have been trying to uninstall AVGFree 2011 Edition (for Windows 7 64-bit). I have gone to the AVG website, downloaded and run their uninstall
program and have removed most of the files; however, some of the program remains. When I type AVG into the search box two files come up: "TableTextServiceSimplifiedZhengMa".
(I believe this is part of the Chinese language portion of the Note Pad section in the program.) When these files come up in the start box I right-click the "delete"; a dialog
box appears saying "Unable to delete because file needs permission of TrustedInstaller". When I search for this "TrustedInstaller" it is located; I then right-click on to "file location";
The location comes up and the option is to open it using Explorer. The browser page appears momentarily, then the dialog box "View downloads-Windows Internet Explorer" appears (?) After this
I reach a dead-end because this dialog box is empty and without further instructions. (I wish I could include screen-shots of this process but I have not yet learned how to do that.)
I have opened these two identical aforementioned files and they contain about 1,975 separate items; I have tried deleting them one-by-one; when I have clicked on the "Organize" button
and then "Select All" and then the "Delete" button this vast group of items actually begins to del... Read more

Hello Guys,
I am not too experienced here but I'd like your help. A couple questions.
I have autocad (a large program) installed on my computer which has windows XP.
I noticed the program wasn't working properly so I tried to reinstall it. I was unsuccessful and my first question is....is it because the program was uninstalled?
Secondly I tried to uninstall the program but I did not see the program listed
(on the page where all the programs are supposed to be listed). A number of other programs are listed on the left side of the page and on the right side it says "change/remove"
I did not see the autocad program listed. I know it is in the "program files" folder.
How can I uninstall this program? and would I be able to re-install this progran once it is uninstalled?
Thank you very much!!

Hi, is there anything wrong to delete a program without uninstalling it?
I need to clear space on my computer so I'm going to back up to an external location then delete the "C:\Program Files\HP Games", but it'll remain installed in case I ever want to bring them back. Is that Okay, or is it a problem to have a program installed that's not physically there?

Thank you for anyone that can answer my question, I appreciate it.

Hi Guys,

I'm really desperate on this!
I have previously opened a thread similar to this.

And I quote myself:

My computer started to loop after I installed an update of Alcohol120%. I have Vista business operating system loaded.

When I start up, the PC only stays on for a few seconds, hardly giving me time to do anything before it restarts. How can I uninstall the update, so that I can work on my PC again?

I have tried the F8 'solution' but safe mode and none of the other options have worked.

PLEASE HELP!!

end quote.

I really need help to uninstall the update version, but like I say, Windows Vista just doesn't give enough time to do so before it restarts and the whole process start all over again.

Also, it gives me a BSOD, but it happens so fast, I cant even read on it what it says before it restarts, just catch the words 'file dump' in the end each time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. ;-)

Ok, I posted this problem in a different section, but realized it was a broader problem. How do you remove a program if you deleted all the files but forgot to remove it with add/remove progams first? I did this, and now I can't remove it even though the files are all gone. I can't re-install it either because it is still reading that its installed. Hopefully this gains a response. I know this is a pain in the ***, but hopefully theres a way to do it. Thanks ahead of time.

I'm attempting to uninstall frostwire on an intel i3 M 380 thats running windows 7. Frostwire is a clone to the limewire program. Its currently running and trying to make me select a directory to save my files in, not the installation but where my downloaded files through frostwire are saved. I can't find the program running in my task manager as a process or an application. when I attempt to uninstall it through remove programs on the control panel it doesn't recognize frostwire as installed. I'm thinking that frostwire hasn't completed its installation and i don't have permission to select a directory to save files into or some thing of that nature. when i try to close it the program reports an error then re-opens and tries to make me select a directory again. even if i just click on the close button.

I'm not very fimilar with the windows 7 operating system. I run an older winows XP myself. this is my brother's computer he asked me to help him fix it haha.

Any help is very much apreciated thank you.

Answer:Difficulty uninstalling program

Hi Guys,
I'm totally stuck.
I loaded a program called Hallmark Card Maker with a feature called Event Reminder. So when I start up (boot ) my computer. Any birthdays in my family will come up when it comes close to the day. But when I got the new computer someone told me you can save all the birthdays from the old computer and load them into the new computer with Windows Explorer with a floppy. When I did it I made it so the program will not start up with error messages telling me some files were missing. So I made another mistake I think, I reloaded (reinstalled) the program, because I thought it would only reinstall the files that were missing . Now it works great, but I noticed I have a copy on C drive and a copy under Programs (were it belongs- under Programs) So I thought I would just uninstall it and reinstall it. So when I went to Add Remove Programs under Control Panel its not in the list ? so now I can't uninstall it ? So I thought I better stop before I just totally wreck my computer because if I just delete it under Windows Explorer, I heard you can really wreck your computer as programs should be uninstalled not deleted.
Totally Frustrated

I have of late been having trouble with loading a trial version of the latest Paint Shop Pro program. It downloads OK, It installs OK but will then when opened display the 'Time Expired' pageCorel seem to be stumped. The installation process always demand that all existing programs be removed. This I Do.Still the 'Out of time' page shows.I tried installing another copy 'over' the 1stThis time I get 'Repair or Remove'Select repair and get --'Out of Time'In searching through the system to ensure no residual PSP files are causing this I came across in the Control panel/Add removePaint Shop Pro 10.This programs was long ago removed but it still shows on the list, indicating that perhaps something lurking in the undergrowth.Click on remove and the warning comes up that original disk is required to remove the program.Herein lay the problemI don't have that disk any more - I gave it away when I purchased PSP12.So far a third party remover[CCleaner] will only instigate the - 'Insert Disk' panel.Any Ideas any oneIs it the reason for the no load of trial?

I think I read in another thread, recently, a suggestion for getting rid of a program that doesn't appear in the 'Add/Remove Programs' list. The suggestion (if I remember it correctly), was to delete the progam's folder from C:\Program Files, and then to run CCleaner's registry cleanup tool to get rid of the leftover registry entires.I'm trying to think up ways to get rid of the phoney antispyware program, Spyware Guard 2009, from a friend's computer (to read my earlier thread on this click here). It has so far resisted all attempts to nuke it.Do you think the above method would be OK, or would I cause all kinds of problems? And do you have any better suggestions?I'll be very grateful for any advice.

Ok, so I finally gave-up on the Comodo FW that I tried for several weeks (could not ever seem to get it "trained" to quit annoying me, seemingly, endlessly). I thought I had done EVERYTHING to completely remove this program (application - whatever), but now when I go into my Vista "Security Center:, it tells me that both Windows AND COMODO PRO are reporting that they are both "on". I have been having a number of issues with my mouse and keyboard freezing/pausing longer than normal (again, quite annoyingly). Can anyone please possibly assist me in removing this thing completely from my system, once and for all?

Thanks,

Answer:COMPLETELY Removing a Program??

What a nightmare ... This PC is about a month old - now this nonsense.

When I try (click on) the link > http://rapidshare.com/files/88891672...eaner.zip.html - I am informed: "File Not Found". I am so not interested in the brain squeeze that all this stuff requires. I'd just like my PC to be right.

Any other suggestions, or should I just continue with what appears to be two (2) Firewalls running, simultaneously?

Thanks.

PS - I mean, I created a Restore point (that I am sure is now unneeded, and simply taking-up more space??), but as far as shutting-down "ALL unnecessary processes running in Task Manager" - how the heck do I know what is necessary and what is not necessary?? There simply HAS to be a more simple way to NOT have (I guess???) two firewalls running at the same time? Not to mention, there is nothing about "Comodo", unistall or otherwise, displayed in "Add/Remove Programs". I've purged everything (???) to do with Comodo, except that Comodo is showing in Windows Security Center - as "ON".

My computer came with a well-known anti virus program, which I uninstalled in order to use a different one. Now (years later), I am trying to install a different program that is saying I need to uninstall the original one that I had already uninstalled. I went to the program listing, and there it was still listed, but showing no disk space used. I cannot get rid of that listing in the program list, so cannot install the new program. Can someone help me with this? I am pretty much a computer idiot, so please be kind and very specific with instructions.

I am using a custom built computer that is running windows xp. I recently downloaded a virus called MSA security. It messed up my computer by putting porn all over the place. It also attacted my anti virus software and my modem program. I am using an ADSL web Clipper modem by Atlantis Land. I have fixed all of the problems caused by this virus but I cannot reload my modem software because it says that it is already installed on my pc. I have tried to find any related files but cannot. It is not under add/remove or program files in windows explorer.
I am having to use a different computer to access this website due to no modem in my computer. My system restore does not work either I have tried that in regular mode and safe mode neither work. I am willing to reformat but I do not have an XP disk and have yet to find someone that does. It seems that everyone I know has upgraded to Vista. I would rather not pay for a cd but if I need to I will. I have everything I need saved on an external harddrive so I do not mind starting over.
Any suggestions on a program that I can install to seek out any hidden files and delete them or a way that I can force the modem software to overwrite program files that it is finding on the computer.
Thanks in advance!!

Answer:Completely Unistalling A Program

Hi .

What modem software are you referring to?

Did you try to uninstall the modem and then reinstall it?

On my W7, I've been told to go to programs & features , locate the program to delete it & once done, its gone. I've since found its not that easy.
I removed SeaMonkey a few days ago by doing as mentioned, yet I just now downloaded it & when I clicked to start using it, it was as if it'd never been deleted via Programs & Features.
Ditto with Google Chrome. I dumped it a few weeks ago & when I reinstalled it, it too was like it had never been removed. I've even done a check via Start>search & nothing showed up. Going to Crogram files> no SeaMonkey or Google Chrome folders or files were seen Yep, confused again.

Answer:How to completely remove a program

Some of these programs will leave behind a file of your personal settings for the program when uninstalled. Also some of them will ask you when uninstalling them do you want to save your personal settings. As for were that file maybe on your drive, I am not sure. Depends on the program. I just say no when ask if I want to keep. My personal settings. This is more or less why they are as if you never uninstalled them. Hope this helps you.

Hello,
I have recently gotten a notebook with Windows Vista Premium with SP1. I have noticed that when I uninstalled the preinstalled Napster, Norton 306 & wild Tangent Games there are still folders with stuff in them in the C:\Program Data Folder.

I also noticed that there are still games listed in the start menu as well as Microsoft Games in the C:\Program Files --- which I can not find an uninstall for.

In addition I had installed spybot on this pc but then uninstalled it since it didn't seem to want to do the updates. There is still a folder in C:\Program Data and C:\Program Files for Spybot. I did notice that with spybot you need to delete some items by hand so I will do that to get rid of those folders (although I think that is for XP since there is not listing for a folder being in Program Data as well).

I had also installed a lexmark x5470 printer on the notebook - first downloading the vista driver. But have had nothing but problems with this printer and would like to get rid of all the traces of this printer on the notebook as well. I did follow the proper uninstall steps but there are traces of this printer all over the place!
I tried contacting Lexmark about this a week and a half ago but never heard back from them - and I also tried asking them again 5 days ago with no response.
There are files for this printer in C:\Program Data, C:\Drivers\Printes, C:\Windows\System32\; C:\Windows\sy... Read more

Is this a Dell? I ask because of the Wild Tangent games. At the end of this article from PCHell there is a script you can download to remove ithttp://www.pchell.com/support/wildtangent.shtmlFor Norton. you need their remval tool:http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgen...005033108162039For Lexmark, download the Windows installer Cleanup Utility. Open it and see if there are any listing for lexmark. If there is, check their box and run the utilityI found a removal tool FOR XP ONLY, but read the page and maybe it will give you some guidancehttp://cubicspot.blogspot.com/2006/07/lexm...removal-is.html
