Here's a new one for ya.
I have 2 accounts: admin & limited. I use the limited.
Upgraded from live essentials 2011 to essentials 2012. had mesh, skydrive, photo gallery/movie maker, and outlook hotmail connector.
The upgrade updated skydrive, outlook connector, and photogallery/movie maker, and removed mesh, as to be expected.
logged into limited account to access photo gallery and got this:
Went back to admin account and repaired it. It mentioned that a file corruption was preventing the repair. So I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, restarted, logged into admin, and accessed photo gallery. Worked fine.
Went into limited account again with the same error. It does eventually start up, but you have to click OK 5 times to make the error disappear.
If someone knows a fix, let me know. I'll keep trying to work it through, and I'll post what I find.
This is the 'corrupt profile error' when I try to repair:
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Well, uninstalled every aspect of essentials, including outlook connectors and skydrive, then Ccleanered it up. Got it working after 2 days. MS fix-its and suggestions didn't work. But, I'm happy now.
1 more repliesMy school gives us server 2012 standard for free. I am wondering if it's possible to install it as 2012 essentials with the same features as essentials kind of like how win pro had every thing home had. Or are the features of server essentials not included in standard? (Features like full pc back up and the dashboard like whs 2011)
Different media for the install, Server Standard and Datacenter use the same media. Essentials has it's own install disk and Foundation and Storage Server share the same media.
Wow- what a mess this is. You know, the Win8 love/hate thing- desktop OS vs. Tablet... I get it. Trying to make things easier for Joe Average user. No Problem. But this stupified, dumbed-down interface on Essentials is a joke. They have emasculated Small Business Server. I've been deploying SBS since the old 4.5 days. It evolved into what a lot of us feel was the best- 2011. Great product, served a HUGE need, and by 2011 they really fixed most everything that was ever wrong with it.
So of course, MS has to f**k it up. First, by removing Exchange, then by applying this moronic Win8 interface... to a server! It's truly pathetic. It has been sad to watch MS abandon the small business community- both its customers and the people like us who support it. This one is the worst yet.
They arn't abandoning them per say, just making the poor decision of trying to force everyone to hosted exchange and office 365.
SBS2011 was a good product and had its place in deployments, I tried to stay away from it though, I honestly don't like small companies having Exchange servers in their office.
Microsoft has released Windows Essentials 2012 which includes new versions of Movie Maker and Photo Gallery for Windows 7 and Windows 8. Details about the new features in Movie Maker and Photo Gallery are available in the Windows Experience Blog, Introducing the New Windows Photo Gallery and Movie Maker.
Windows Essentials 2012 includes the new SkyDrive for Windows app as well as Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Family Safety, Windows Live Writer, Windows Live Messenger, Outlook Connector Pack and Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Movie Maker. Windows Live Mesh and SkyDrive
If you install Windows Essentials 2012, it is important to note that if you have Windows Live Mesh installed, it will automatically be removed if you install the new Movie Maker or Photo Gallery. In its place Microsoft SkyDrive will be installed. Microsoft has specified that if the new Movie Maker and/or Photo Gallery in Windows Essentials 2012 are installed, you can not have Windows Live Mesh on the same PC.
In order to sync folders from the cloud to all of your PCs, it will then be necessary to install SkyDrive on all of your PCs or Macs. (Windows Live Mesh continues to be available from the Download Center: Windows Live Essentials.)

Is it safe to install Windows Essentials 2012 on a Windows 10 Surface Pro 3? Photo Gallery is what I am really after because it has a photo resize function where W10 Photo app does not.
I see no reason why you cannot.
MS is still supporting Windows Essentials.
I don't have a Surface Pro, but I have been using Windows Essentials 2012 programs on my 2 laptops running Win 10.
Why did you use the word" safe" ?
You have heard of warning of that kind ?
Hi,
I try installing Windows Essentials and it wont install! This came up for 1 hour
I got bored and cancelled the process and now the windows all user install service agent wont work, I cant log onto and internet connection won't come to my apps I have install.
Do I have to refresh my computer or anything else?
Thanks
Al
A refresh would be your easiest option. Remember that a refresh will remove any installed apps that were not pre-installed on the system and your data files will land in C:\Windows.old. Since that's the case, I like to suggest that afterwards, you install the apps you life, then create a new image using the "recimg" command line tool. That way your "refresh" will refresh with your apps installed and data intact.

I migrated an office from 2003 to 2012 Essentials.
I admin'd the box fine setting it up at home with RDS and installed REALVNC on it. Everything was groovy.
Took it to the office and migrated all the workstations to this new domain controller, migrated profiles, etc, moved files, remapped shares, did scripts, etc. Everything went very smooth.
I get home and cannot get to the box thru the VPN as I always did with the 2003 server. Can't ping it, get to it with RDS, VNC, nothing. Can't get to any of the workstations either. I'm thinkin' ohhh crap, I'm in trouble Monday morning, this office is down hard and dead!
Nope, nothing, no calls. I send an email to ask the Doctor if they turned everything off and he said no, everything is working fine.
I am not interested particularly in the web admin access, that I most likely disabled because I can't reach it either. But it looks interesting and I might re-enable it.
But mainly, how do I get RDS and VNC access back? This is a remote site and I'd like to know before I drive 100 miles round trip.
Windows firewall?
Possibly it (properly) detected the new network when taken to the office, but set itself to Public network instead of Work or Home?
We had that happen once here, except it was when someone did RDP in. The Network Detection dialog popped up, but he ignored the box; Windows presumably then selected Public network and blocked pretty much all inbound connectivity.
Though that did block literally all inbound connections.
Windows Live Essentials 2012 16.4 is a Windows 7 & Windows 8

Please Advise all members of Majors Geeks not to waste there time trying to Downlaod it if they have Vista Or Earlier onthere PC's rolleyes
Your post is partially inaccurate. The updates for Photo Gallery and Movie Maker will not allow them to run on a Vista operating system, the other items install and run fine on Vista as I'm on a Vista machine as I type this.

Ok so I have been reading up here on rants and different things on the storage spaces piece...
I went from WHS v1 to WHS2011 now but am not running any backups or duplication or anything....
I am now running WHS2012E (if you will)...on a machine to make sure it all looks good. But I only have 1 drive in it at the moment..
so in my ESX 5.5i environment I installed it then added 2 drives...
just for confirmation....
what is the mimimum size drive to use for the OS???
I have a 1tb in there and was going to get 2 x 3tb drives.. and only use them.
but V1 would allow you to duplicate data that way but the new WHS2012E does not.
seems drive pool must be 2 seperate drives in addition to the OS drive so it makes no sense why wyou would want a 3tb OS drive...
(verified this by more googling... hah)
am I missing something here?
I am thinking 250gb or 320gb drive for OS (have them already)
3 x 1tb drive in a pool then mirrored x1 (as I have them too) - if that is what it is called...
I dont need 2 copies of this and 3 copies of that.. raid 5 for this and all that...
I have pics, movies, data files that are shared out to computers in the house... I just want to make sure if a drive goes I can get all my data back....
recommendations?
this machine will be running
movie share
music share
data share

Im guessing the .254.254 is a uverse/att device?
Turn off the DHCP on the .254 device *or* add your current router into the DMZ type zone
Server should be sending out DHCP info

192.168.254.254 as gateway (or is you can do the DMZ mode use 192.168.1.1)

I have it installed, and it boots to the dashboard, and starts the"Set Up Windows Server 2012 Essentials" dialog, it leads to "Error occurred during Installation" and says to reboot, or save logs, I have a copy of the logs files, if anyone would like them.
Has anyone else gotten this combo to work?
Whenever I try to install WSE2012 through UEFI/BIOS it fails. The computer reboots before I even get into the setup GUI. So far, I have only been able to boot into DOS.
I've removed all PCIE cards, unplugged hard drives, and updated the BIOS to the latest version.
I verified the chksum of the WSE2012 against Technet so i know my download is good.
I burned the ISO to DVD & Flash drive.
Any ideas?
I don't do these posts (Hey look at me, I'm awesome!!!), but this one needed to be made...
I am a graduate of both WHS v1 and 2011. I liked both, missed drive extender, and loathed my ATT Gateway as a result. That said, they always backed up on time, and the way I wanted, with no issues (until Drive Bender decided to bork everything and my Windows 8 laptop refused to play nice with WHS2011).
Well, my server needed an upgrade anyway, so I decided to gut it (mostly) and start over with the new Server Essentials 2012. (SE2012 from here on)
Old Specs: Core 2 Duo E4400, 2gb DDR2, Some s775 Asus board, and a 9800GT PE + a 2TB WD Green.
New Specs: AMD A6-3650, 4GB DDR3, an MSI A55m-P33, an Intel 120gb SSD for the OS, and I added two more WD Green 2TB drives (total 6tb).
I cannot emphasize it enough how easy the setup was. Drivers installed with no issues, straight from the mobo disk, and then updated through windows update. Unlike with my two WHS installs, I didn't have to trick them into thinking it wasn't a server OS etc. Getting DriveBender back in the form of storage pools was awesome, and again, set up with no issues whatsoever including built in duplication. The entire process, hardware switch included, took MAYBE 2 hours. That includes setting up a domain on the network with SE2012.
So, compared to my previous server OS experience, I also like the new dashboard. It's a bit easier to work with and makes a little more sense, though some of the dire... Read more
Hi all,
hope some good sould could help me here.
I want to install back live mail 2012 but at the end of the installation it keeps on reporting the following:
It looks like another program is preventing the installer from working.
Error: 0x80070643
Source: crt90-i386
instead of saying: done.
I've looked pretty everywhere but I couldn't find a solution.
I've tried a clean start, with just MS services, tried to uninstall feature NET framework and reinstall them, tried to stop and restart the firewall, tried to clean all the cache, temp files.
I also tried to install the messenger or the Photo gallery and Movie maker alone, without mail.
Nothing, it keeps on reporting that darn error
Anybody have an idea on what could be wrong?
Is your Windows Firewall turned On ?
It needs to be On.
When I try to install Windows Movie Maker the Windows Essentials 2012 installer window hangs with the message "Preparing to install..." and the progress bar continues to run across the window. How can I get the installation to run correctly?
More repliesI'm trying to help a friend to get their Windows Server 2012 Essentials setup up in their small business.
Server is operational, but I'm having issues connecting PCs to it...
I'm able to get to the server page by going to http://(servername)\connect
I can download the connector software, when I run it it finds the server it ask for user name and password.
After entering info it tries to connect for 20-60 seconds and fails with:
Cannot coonect this computer to the network
The Server is not available. Try connecting this computer again, or for more information, see troubleshooting connecting computers to the server.
any idea what could be causing?
could this be caused by network issues? They are using ATT DSL for internet access, with a ATT model, that is referred to as "gateway.pace.com"
They also have a zyxel smart switch, it seems that both ATT DSL and Zyxel switch are acting as DHCP, and both might be issuing IP addresses.
Another thing I noticed that they are using IP phones for all office phones.
All PCs are connected to the network with an IP phone as a device in the middle, that seems be slowing down the phones from normal gigabit to 10/100 only.
Any help would be grateful.
Got tired of the start screen email app real quick, went out and downloaded windows essential pack which includes mail.
Program is a work of art, added all my accounts with just a couple of clicks, personal imap accounts, microsoft accounts and even my yahoo pop account (needs to be yahoo mail plus account, which i have for like $20 a year).
Each account has its own set of folders and each account can be given a color, the ribbon menus on top are great and offer multiple options for your emails.
Reader can be completely customized with many different views, custom column headers, etc.
Can all this be synced to other accounts, and devices who knows, I really am not into that so for me this is the perfect email app
get the free download here: Windows Essentials: Other Programs
I'll look into that once I get my laptop back to 8. Thanks for the link.

This is the Beta, of course.
I reset my computer because Windows Live Mail was not connecting to the internet and was getting an error message saying that I have used the wrong password. Now, I still can't use WL Mail and Windows Essentials is still "installing" for the last several days. Consequently, I can't uninstall WL Mail or Windows Essentials or fix them. In addition, I think, because WLE is not installed officially, I can't see my saved videos and still get the same error message when I try to connect to WL Mail...error 0x80280006. I tried to reset my WL Mail password to no avail.
BTW, I'm using Windows 10 and maybe it is partly to blame?
I want to be able to use WL Mail and see my videos, but I don't know how. Please help. Thanks.
While searching for info on my problem, I ran a scan of my system with a 'repair tool'...it found many errors and would fix them for a fee, but one of the things it did mention was that I have an Artemis virus. Could this be the cause of my problems>
Anyone know if you can install it as a non-domain server? It forced me to provide a domain name during the installation.
I don't want MS domains anywhere near my home network. I want a standard network server.

Can somebody PLEASE give me a working link to Windows Essentials 2012, preferably the offline installer? It's not on Microsoft anymore, and I want to use the Live Mail and Photos apps in place of the default Win10 apps.
Hi Stargate38
I trust this site. That said please scan with your AV. Hopefully Live Mail is included.
While Live Mail still works for a lot of people it could stop at any time depending on your mail supplier.

Alright, I have been running into a lot of problems lately with installing Windows Essentials 2012. I have gotten 2 different error codes which I have looked into forums about at and done everything they said to do. I have successfully installed it but then when I attempted to launch Movie Maker (which is all I need) it told me that I was missing something (shouldn't the installation put EVERYTHING you need for the program to run on your computer?!). So I got that file and put it in the appropriate folder and then again attempted to launch Windows Live Movie Maker and I got another message saying I was missing a DIFFERENT file. I have run 2 different virus scans and cleans on my computer (because some forum told me to run a scan). Now what is happening is that I am running the installer and with in matter of seconds it says that Windows Essentials has successfully installed. However, when I go and try and use one of the WLE programs IT... IS... NOT... ON... MY.... COMPUTER! I am starting to get pissed off. I have spent hours on end attempting to fix this problem and no forum has helped me.
Hopefully now I can get some real help on what to do.
Hi,
We will do our best to help you, okay first you should never download files from any website they could be harmed, second could you give us a screenshot or the code numbers?,third did you download the WLE Setup from the official site?fourth shouldnt you get the WLE with the ISO file imean with the windows 8.1 i didnt had to install WLE it came with my windows?,fifth check if there is any windows updates then try again with the official WLE installer.
Did a fresh install of Microsoft Server 2012 R2 Essentials and followed the storage pool wizard by mistake and setup with mirror instead of Stripe + Parity (just MKV etc. storage).
Rookie mistake but how could I simply delete the pool (and folders) and redo manually?
I'm googling like crazy but can't find a solution yet.
I would like to format the drives and re-setup the storage pool.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thx guys.
I want to choose an OS for a media server, has to be Windows. I have valid keys. The server hw is pretty old, its an old SuperMicro with AMD Opteron, 6GB DDR2 etc.
Which of these is going to have the lowest resource usage? I don't need to use any pc backup features, just run it as a server with the usual tasks like Plex/Emby, downloading etc.
2012 Essentials gets my vote but I bet it's less featureful than WHS2011. Based on how many strange happenings I have on my workstation at work with a clean non-OEM install of Win10 TH2, I would not use it for a server at all. Here's to hoping 2016 is better in reliability than the counterpart 10...
I've reached the end of my limited networking knowledge. Here's the deal:
- I have my home server running Windows Server Essentials 2012. Its primary function is backups of my various computers.
- My ISP is ATT Uverse, which provides a modem/router/gateway. It sucks teh ballz, so I set into bridge mode and set up a Netgear Nighthawk behind it. ALL devices are connected to the Nighthawk.
- I want to set up the server for remote access so that family can grab pictures and files remotely, and so I can do the same.
- I followed the instructions and the auto setup (I had to forward ports 80 and 443 manually, but that's done), and from the server's perspective, it says it is set up:
And now the problem:
When I try to access the sever from INSIDE the network, it loads the login page no problem. BUT, when I do so from the outside, the server sends no data, nothing loads.
Am I missing a setting on the bridged gateway?
Windows firewall enabled on the server? Check your IIS settings.
Is Microsoft finally going to release new versions of its Windows Essentials software tools? I know Skype replaced the Windows live Messenger but it would be fantastic to get a new version of Windows Live Writer for my blogs. Hello,
I just downloaded and installed Windows Live Essentials 2012. When I go to launch Movie Maker I get the following error.
I did make sure my computer meets the requirements for Movie maker and my DirectX is version 11 with my DDI Version being 10.

Also, I earlier posted a link to a reported work-around for the connector software forcing workstations on the Domain.
Look that over as well if you intend on proceeding with this.
I have not tested this work-around yet, but probably will tonight.

When I come across biz networks that have servers and workstations all in workgroup mode...I LOL at the "pizza tech" that set those up.

what do you mean by "added my computer into the server" as it's not clear what you did.
and clarify "there is no user found on the permission for drop box"
it should list local accounts and possibly the SID of a deleted domain user (if you mean you added your computer to the domain that Server 2012 Essentials creates)

2011) the group contacts went just fine
I don't know if this is buried here on HOCP or not, but here it is just in case.
There is an article on SuperSite that explains how to add a computer to a Server 2012 Essentials machine (i.e. install the connector software) without it taking over the workstation and adding it to the domain.
Article...
Hopefully MS won't put some sort of bullshit block in for this in the final RTM.
Nice to know. Might allow more people to use it w/o worrying about domain administration.
I can't seem to find info on this. Does the client backup support Single Instance Store like the old WHS products did ?
Ok, so after a long time working fine, my desktops stopped backing up.
So, as recommended by the TN Article for Client Backup issues, I started the Database Repair Utility in the Dashboard.
It starts, and after a while it fails and says it fails due to an unknown problem. I click the link it provides to find help, and it dumps me in the generic Server2012E page. I've not been able to find any help on this issue.
Any idea's ?
I also ran a SFT /Scannow on the server. The last time I had a client backup issue this fixed it.
Exact Error Wording:
Backup repair did not complete.
An unknown error prevented the backup repair process from starting. Make sure that all services are running then try again.
The services I know to check are indeed running.
I just put my server together how do you like WSE so far? Planning to install it when my internet get re-connected in a couple weeks.

Sorry I call bogus. No way in H E double hockey sticks that Norton gets 4.5 stars and MBAM gets 3. Not to mention they use an old outdated version of MBAM. They compare version 1.51 when version 1.62 has been out for a while now. That just shows that PCMag doesnt want to step on their advertisers or people who pay them money for good reviews. Norton has done this in the past with PCMag and everyone knows it. They had the most adverts in the published mag and they still get favored on their online only mag now.
Not to even mention the fact they dont even test MSE at all. Funny how they test so many, but yet they dont test the one from the OS Developers themselves. PCMag can take a long walk off a short pier. They are only padding the ego of the people who write them checks. They are not nor will they ever be a publication to read if you want real results and feedback. They only care about who lines their pockets.
I had Windows Live Mail 2011 and had no problems. Then I upgraded to Windows live mail 2012 and that is when the problems started.
All email comes in fine
All email sends fine as long as you only send out one contact.
The problem lies in trying to send out a group contact.
It does not go. when trying to send you get this error msg : imgur: the simple image sharer
I did not realize this problem until i tried to send out a group contact
In fact I put the program on 3 different machines that were upgrades- same problem
Worse, I put this on 8 client computers who had windows live mail essentials 2011 prior and same problem.
I went to the Micrososft Forum and told them the problem. They have been working with me to come up with a fix. i sent them logs that they asked for. So far I only see on the forum "they are working on it"
This is the forum that i posted to Windows Live Mail Essentials 2012 will not allow group contacts - Microsoft Community
I suggest prior to putting the new version on you backup Windows live mail first
Also this does NOT happend if you are putting the program on for the first time and not doing an upgrade
It does not matter if you sign into Live Mail with a live account or you use your own isp, I have tried both and I still cannot send a group contact.
Once uninstalling 2012 and going back to 2011 (you can still get 2011) the group contacts went just fine
Thank you robinb9 for the information. Please keep us updated if you can.

I have a Windows Server 2012 Essentials Server with Dell Perc 200 raid controller.
All generally works very well. But i have noticed if i copy files from one location to another location on the same hdd, the transfer rate starts reasonable and drops right down to 1-2mb / sec... or less... and sometimes goes to kb/sec and then sometimes drops to 0...
Any ideas or suggestions are welcomed?? Is it windows settings, the raid controller etc???
Thanks, Simon

The error is that it can't find the server.
I've tried everything else I've seen on the forums, IP v4 only, DNS is only set to the Windows Domain server.

My new laptop has never recorded sound for SKYPE Video Messaging.
Bit annoying, as Skype video calls and other similar apps, no problems with microphones/sound etc.
Since downloading Windows Essential 2012 I have no sound for any videos that previously worked fine. Specifically I wanted to use Movie Maker. Do I need an updated sound card?
I have deinstalled and reinstalled and it is the same story every time.
NO SOUND.
Any help appreciated thanks.
Could you explain your issue precisely? What is wrong with the sound exactly?
Is the problem with particular video file format using the Movie Maker only?
Or do you have sound watching for example Youtube videos and DVD movies?

Have attempted to get Photo Gallery and Movie Maker on my Win 7 Pro computer. Installed Windows Essentials 2012 which is supposed to include these two programs. The only program that installs and shows up on the computer is Microsoft One Drive. Did a search of the computer but did not find either program. A number of websites discuss this problem and offer solutions. I've tried all of the solutions. None have worked for me. My computer specs are more than what is required for these two programs, so that isn't the problem. I'm beginning to wonder if these programs have been eliminated by Microsoft.
Any ideas would be welcomed.

Have been using this program for months now on windows 10 32 bit, and I get an email saying that MS are making changes to Outlook servers and to patch WLM 2012 and a download link.
I applied the patch and now after a few seconds of being open WLM 2012 crashes while updating the calendar.
Anyone know a fix for this? I have taken the patch off by repairing Windows essentials 2012 from the Programs and features dialog, but anyone know why this patch causes WLM to crash after a few seconds?

Repaired WLM 2012 through Program and features and then re-applied the patch, seems solved now.

more repliesWe have an important LOB application (QuickBooks 2018) that requires that requires Internet Explorer 11 for QB to operate correctly. Unfortunately our server runs Windows Server 2012 Essentials as an operating system (not R2). From reviewing
various Microsoft documents, I realize that IE 11 is not supported on Server 2012. However, we need to be able to run QuickBooks, which requires that version of IE. Upgrading the server OS to 2012 R2 would take hours, because there is no in-place
upgrade option. We would have to reinstall and configure the OS again from scratch.
Is there anything we can do to resolve this problem?
Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Download Windows 10 Client Connector Update for Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2 as it now available at Microsoft.
Windows Server Essentials Connector is software that helps you connect your PC or Mac client to Windows Server 2012 R2 with the Windows Server Essentials Experience server role enabled. It also enables and manages key client-side functionality of Windows Server Essentials Experience. On a PC, it provides client backup, a tray icon and the Launchpad, the Dashboard for management of remote servers, and a VPN profile with the capability of auto-dialing and monitoring client health from the server side. On a Mac, it provides health monitoring and the Launchpad.
Get it from Microsoft here.
Hi
Having upgraded to Windows 8 Pro 64 bit, I have discovered that I have limited control of my options, in Windows Live Mail (Essentials 2012 version)!
Prior to the upgrade, and with the 2011 version of WLM, I was able, through the Options facility to select certain actions, such as:
"Send/Receive on Start up!
and
Delete messages from the deleted folder on close down!
The Options Tab, which allowed these choices, was on the tool bar, at the top of the window, just below, and just to the left of the Close Window X!
This facility does not appear on the current 2012 version!
I would appreciate any advice on this matter
At the moment, I have to manually select Send/Receive, and manually delete old messages
Hi Theo, When first installing W8 I noticed the 'Tile' for Windows Live Mail in 'all apps'. Didn't take much notice as don't use Live Mail which in W7 & W8 was an integral part of Messenger. However to use Messenger you had to create a Live Mail/Hotmail a/c.
Well having become more settled with what I need in W8 I thought I'd have a look at the 'Windows Live Mail' and so pinned the tile to Start & Desktop. I just opened it today and found it has the new UI of the Ribbon Type which makes it very flexible and perhaps more attractive to future use by me. I also noticed it had the 'Options' you require, which you will find on the Toolbar when you create a new message. Hope this helps.
I swapped out the HDD on my wife's laptop with a new SSD, and did a fresh install of Windows 7.
My wife liked the live mail, and the photo viewer, and had the 2009 version on the old system, I think.
Anyway......you can only install the new Windows Essentials 2012, or it's individual components....or so I thought.
I tried doing that, and first it hung on the "install", until I got fed up and cancelled. A couple more attempts, and it said it couldn't install mail, movie maker and photo viewer. I tried the offline installer, tried finding an older version....with no luck.
It would keep installing OneDrive though, if I tried to install the entire suite.
One thing I found out is, that if there are any components/program files from previous versions, it won't install, or so I read. If I go to C:\Program files, and/or C:\Program files(x86), there are folders for Live essentials components. Obviously it came with the fresh Windows 7. I'm pretty sure that is the reason, but if I simply try to right click and delete those folders, it tells me I need permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes to the folders.
It's ridiculous.
Any help/feedback GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
I haveNero 7 Essentials and whenever I click a video file to view I get this attached error message. I click it 3 times and then the video plays fine. How do I resolve this? I already uninstalled and reinstalled the program and the same thing happens. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, David
So I finally have all my drivers installed after doing a clean install of Windows 7. Now I need to know the Essentials that I basically have to need to run some programs. What error's are you getting?
9 more repliesHas anyone else encountered this error before? I couldn't update my Definitions for awhile and Windows Update found the latest one (1.61.628.0) and then Home page said "Not connected". I also get the error while trying to Upgrade MSE as what the Microsoft Help page mentions.
Are you connected to the internet the whole time you're updating?
5 more repliesI usually use Skype, but sometimes I use Windows Live Messenger. One day, I saw a newer version of this program, so here's what I did:
1) I downloaded the newest version
2) Installed.
When I was installing it, it deleted the old version. When I was installing the new version it installed in about 0.000000001 second. I was like: WT* . But when I click Close, nothing opens (The installation said, that if I click close, it will open). Then I opened Start --> Clicked All Programs --> Searched for a folder named Windows Live or something --> Found it --> Empty.
What should I do?
Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.
Which site did you download the updated version from?
Was it a genuine Microsoft site?
Something certainly doesn't sound right so I'd be inclined to run an anti-virus scan, and then use Microsoft's system restore to a point in time before you downloaded the update.
Malwarebytes is pretty good for this job.

Hi drtime0909. . .
Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support!
I have found that aspects of Nero 7 may not be fully compatible with Vista x64 - at least according to their system requirements, found HERE. Although it indicates that it is compatible with exceptions, note the area under "DirectX 9.0c" - required - but it does not say "or later"... such as is said for IE6.
Looking at the system requirements for Nero 8 found HERE, you will notice the phrase "DirectX 9.0c or better" - Vista runs under DirectX 10.
Whether or not this subtle difference is causing the problems for you is unknown to me at this time.
I would suggest that you check WERcon out to see if incompatibility is listed:
? Problem Reports and Solutions:
START | type wercon.exe into the Start Search box | right-click on wercon.exe that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | view "See Problems to Check'.
However, there is a plug-in that may or may not work for you and it costs USD $24.99 - but be wary. You can find this information HERE.
Good Luck to you.

I had a Windows Update occur last night, which was just a normal thing. Right after the update, MSE started getting the error code 0x80070002 whenever I tried to start the program, or when I would boot up the machine. I Googled answers for this and the best thing I could do was uninstall MSE.
I'm trying to reinstall MSE because I like how lightweight it is and because Windows keeps bugging me about it. I am aware that I can disable the notifications, but knowing that I don't have any protection is just something I don't want to be aware of.
Anyway, when I tried reinstalling it, I ran into the error code 0x80070643. Googling again led me to see that this is just some sort of installation error.
I don't have any other antivirus programs installed aside from Windows Defender. I've tried running several Microsoft Fix Its, and a bunch of command prompt steps, but it's still to no avail.
Download & run the Microsoft Security Essentials Removal Tool Download (It's actually a M$oft "Fixit") then try reinstalling. If you still get errors I suggest you refer to this **Microsoft Security Essentials - Installation Checklist and Frequently Asked Questions

Hope this helps.
I tried to install Windows Movie Maker and photo gallery 2012 this morning. Movie Maker 2012 did not work (I still don't know why), but since Windows Live Essentials 2011 was in my updates, I uninstalled 2012 moviemaker and photo gallery and tried to update with 2011.
Now it says that I have an earlier version of Windows Essentials installed, Error 80280007, and i have to uninstall those programs.
I can't find where those "newer" programs are on my computer. I uninstalled them from the programs list and deleted all the cache folders out of my App Data. I've restarted my computer, but nothing works. It still gives me the same error message.
what's going on?

i am having a problem on installing Windows essentials on my laptop (hp pavilion). I have windows 10 Home on my laptop. I just need the windows movie maker. But every time it shows the error code 0x80040705. What should i do to get this error sorted

Error code 0x80070643 comes up whenever I try installing Microsoft Security Essentials. I had Security Essentials installed earlier but after I used the .net cleanup tool (since I had a problem with .net) it shut down and wouldn't start back up again, so I uninstalled it.
I have also tried installing AVG Internet Security but it comes up with AVG error 0xC0070643 with error message: General internal error.
I think my computer had .net framework 3.5.1 installed before but it won't install either. I got .net framework 4 to install but it didn't help and wouldn't uninstall or repair and the updates wouldn't install for it either (windows update error 66A and 643).
Please help me
It appears that remnants of the first Essentials is still present. Try downloading ccleaner, run it, boot and then try to install again.

If that does not work, with system restore, go back to before the uninstall. Then download revo and uninstall. Then try to install again.

Hi:
Yes, the fact that you have not updated Windows with important security patches for "quite some time" may be contributing to your problem.
The free upgrade offer from Win7 to Win10 ended months ago.
There are no more "GWX" reminders.
So there is currently no solid reason to refuse important security patches for Windows and your other MS software (e.g. MS Office).
If you are missing one or more months worth of security updates, your system is vulnerable.
As a general principle (with rare exceptions), one should install at least ALL "critical" and "important" SECURITY updates.
The decision to install "Recommended" and "Optional" patches, especially those that are not security-related, is up to the user. You'll need to read the descriptions of each available patch to determine if it applies to or might be needed for your system.
I do not use MSE.
So I cannot help specifically with the error message you report.
But, for starters, I would suggest running Windows Update manual checks and installing ALL available "Critical" and "Important" SECURITY updates.
It may have to be done in batches, depending on how many of them you are missing.
In other words, do not try to install 20 or 30 security patches all at once.
I suggest leaving ".NET framework" patches for last.
And you will need to reboot several times during the process, when prompted.

I recently upgraded my motherboard and since then, I have been unable to use 3ds Max. Everytime I open it, the error message "the software license checkout failed. Error 20" appears. I tried reinstalling it and that didn't work. Then, I enabled FlexLicense (which seems to solve the problem for most users) but nothing changed. I then deleted two .CAS files from ADLM and reinstalled the program. This didn't work either. Please, I need help urgently as I use 3ds Max for my work and it's due within a week!

but i already installed .net framework 4 client profile and also .net framework 4 extended

Hi,
Maybe the .NET Framework 4.0 is not installed correctly or corrupted. I suggest you can try Verification Tool to verify .NET 4.0 on the machine if it has been installed. If it is not
installed, please try to download and install it to support your application.
Also, you can refer to
NET Framework V. 4.0.30319

Hello and thanks for the support.
Last night while playing an online game called Cockatice with a buddy of mine, a random song began playing. I thought it was from a website that was open, so I closed the web browser but it still played. I also closed Media player and it kept on. I looked at volume button in the lower right hand of the screen and noticed Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) was red. I tried to start it and it gave me the message in the details: Error Code: 0x80070424.
I went to mute the sound as the song was still playing. I have Windows 7 so the output sounds are all separated and can be individually muted. I assumed the song would be coming from the main playback device, but it had it's own separate channel labeled all by itself (which made it easy to mute). I unfortunately do not remember the name, but it was something like "Nothing is here" or "Nothing special".
This creeped me out so I started running SuperAnti Spyware(SAS) and then followed up with Malwarebytes (MBAM). I got a bunch of cookies from SAS and a trojan from MBAM. I restarted my PC and MSE still wouldn't start. I restarted in safe mode and cleaned it all with both programs (SAS and MBAM) and restarting until nothing was found anymore, but when I restarted my PC, MSE was still in the red.
I did some searching online and found that I might be missing an update. I attempted to update but got an error every time. When the mist cleared it... Read more

Hello all,
Heres my problem that I have been having,
I wanted to use Microsoft Security Essentials as it was highly recommended to me.
But when I download it and it comes to the 'validation' page to see if my computer is windows genuine it just freezes and then says 'Microsoft security essentials has stopped working' .
My computer is genuine though, and I activated it on their website too!
So if anyone could help me with this problem that would be amazing!
Hi all,
MSE states that it's at risk whenever I log on to my computer.
I've recently dealt with a virus problem that kaspersky apparently took care of a few days ago.
But today I came across redirecting ads on firefox, despite having ad block plus.
Even while on safe mode with networking I had to deal with this.
Whenever I try to use malwarebytes without networking, it says its missing/corrupt.
On top of that, mse fails to work. Now I'm on my phone typing this out.
I took the liberty of attaching a farbar recovery scan tool result that I just got from following a similar thread on the MSE problem.
Help on eliminating this zero access infection would be appreciated.
We need some additional information so that we can replace an infected system file.
Boot to System Recovery Options and run FRST again.
Type the below bolded text in the edit box after "Search:".
services.exe
Then click the Search button.
It will make a log (Search.txt) on the flash drive. Please attach this log to your next reply.
Hi all. First time here. Thanks for your help.
So it seems I am having the exact same problem a fellow user was a while back.

Every other time I turn on my computer--and, likewise, every single time I turn on Microsoft Security Essentials--I get this error message. I can't find any way to uninstall the program.
I have Avast for the realtime protection but, as far as I know, I had that turned off with MSE, using it only for occasional security scans.
This has been going on for about a week. Any ideas as to what's wrong?

One of the more common reasons for a failed MSE install is having had some other security software on the computer. Each security vendor usually provides their own official uninstall tool. Failure to use the tool can result in bits and pieces (remnants) being left behind which can interfere with a clean install of a new product. Singular Labs has compiled a list of official uninstallers. If you had a security product installed before MSE I'd run the appropriate uninstaller(s) after reading the info file(s).

Ihave been searching for a couple of weeks or more for a solution to this and have tried variou things that were suggested after I googled the error, the last one was uninstall live essentials and reinstall it .....but after I. Uninstalled it, it would not reinstall and now I am left with no email account or any of the other parts of live essentials please can anyone advise me?
What happens when you try the re-install? Have you tried a repair - if you still have WLE in the Control Panel => Programs and features.
Did you download a fresh copy of WLE?
In March my micro soft essentials ceased to function and automatically update . When I tried to remove it , it said there was no programme to remove and suggested that I reinstall . When I attempted to reinstall it announced that it was already installed , I had reached an impasse . Can anyone tell me how to remove this infection at no cost ? Every time I log on a warning appears on my screen telling me that I have no protectin and quotes error code 0x80070715

Another error message state Windows host process (Rundll32) has stopped working.
I read the rules, and I ran the logs, hope I got everything I was suppose. This is pretty much new to me and I'm a bit lost.
before doing this I contacted Acer support , sent me to My Tech support http://acer.mytechhelp.com/?cpid=35049&gclid=CObixtD38bcCFZFFMgod6HUArQ They assisted my by taking over my computer told me I have a trojan and showed me lots of files that need to be removed because it is controling my computer. Then they told me it would cost me a one time cost of $150. I became nervous said that I couldn't do that before I talked to a tech person.
Please advise as what I can do to fix the computer.

Does anybody can help me to fix that error and make successful install.
Some say enabling system restore and (temporarily)enabling the windows firewall service is the solution
(before installing WL).
Did you completely uninstall your previous installation of Windows Live Essentials?

Hi,
I recently purchased a lenovo laptop for home purpose around 1.5 months back. The laptop was having already microsoft security essentials (MSE) and mcafee antivirus plus software. Unfortunately, yesterday i was facing blue screen on death type of error (BSOD) error. On one forum, I found that it may be due to the mcafee antivirus software. So, I uninstalled the software as per suggestion.
My questions is :
Why MSE was not able to detect this bsod error ?
Moreover, why mcafee, which itself is a anti-virus software, was causing this issue?
Please help to know the exact issues in detail.
Morever, I want to install good free antivirus software. I am totally confused whether should I install the antivirus software or, the internet security software. Please throw more light on good free internet security software from longer perspective. (I just found that almost all free trials are only for 1 month only)? Moreover, why built-in windows firewall and microsoft security essentials (MSE) are not enough for detecting malacious software. Why extra internet security software or antivirus software is required ?
Thanks,
Ashish

Maybe you can download Windows Installer to get rid of the previous version clearly and then install the new version, I don't know whether I remember the name or not, but I used this kind of tool, is really so useful.
I recently purchased a refurbished dell desktop with windows 7. Everything worked well after I set it up. However, the next day I turned it on and the Microsoft Security Essential Welcome window opened saying "Microsoft Security Essentials has already been installed on your computer, but hasn't been initialized. To initialize the program and make sure it's helping to protect your computer, click "next."
Upon clicking "next" the MSE license terms window opened. There was an "accept" and a "cancel" button. However, the area for the agreement was completely blank. I clicked the "accept" button and another window opened saying "Microsoft Security Essentials Setup error." Can't complete the Microsoft Security Essentials Setup Wizard. [Obviously, I'm not a computer tech, but I do know how to do a few things on it! Computer logs may as well be written in a foreign language, because I don't understand them. BUT, I WILL "pay attention and follow instructions" if someone has time to assist me!]
I've been reading some of the instructions, but most seem to boil down to (MY words, not yours!): don't make the problem worse by trying to fix what you know little/nothing about! ... so I haven't.

With their limited help, I got most of it working again, BUT they said to get FULL working back, I needed to re-format. I'm NOT comfortable doing that, so I've been dealing with it. The HP systems that I KNOW don't work are: HP Support Assistant and Media Smart.)
I stopped using BitDefender and went to Microsoft Security Essentials.
