Preferred Solution: Do i need the Qualcomm gobi package for hp 2000 or can i uninstall it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Do i need the Qualcomm gobi package for hp 2000 or can i uninstall it?

This package is part of your computer's networking facilities. This short clip from Qualcomm explains its basics.

Hi I have just got a T420 (Win 7 64bit) which did not have a 3g module. I took the gobi 2000 out of my t410i and put it in this machine. I have installed the driver for the t410 and it installs perfectly, although it does not list the T420 as a compatible machine.  I can create the dialup with the gobi modem but I keep getting an error 619 and it will not connect. I have tried installing access connections and connecting via mobile broadband but still no luck. If I go to in access connection to advanced, tools, mobile broadband (which is now no longer greyed out) I can see existing SMSs on the sim card but send or receive new SMS so it seems the card is not registered on the mobile network. If I press FN+F5, WWAN  is not listed so I can?t turn it on. Any ideas?

Answer:T420 and Qualcomm Gobi 2000

Make sure you enabled the card in BIOS.

I got a T410 with a Qualcomm Gobi 2000 adapter and wonder if there is any other software that can be used instead of Access Connections? The software have to support Windows 7 x64/x86 as well since that is the OS i will be using. On other Thinkpads with the Ericsson F3507g i been using Ericsson Wireless Manager instead of AC that i found to work better. Hopefully there are some other options for the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 as well. Any advice for other software than AC would be appreciated.

Answer:Software for the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 adapter

Hi gan,

You should be able to make WWAN connections just using Windows, no other software required. I don't know who your provider is, but here's and example of the setup for AT&T in the US.

Hello community. My T410 was upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, Windows 10 meanwhile with Anniversary Update.A Qualcomm Gobi 2000 WAN card in the device manager is correctly depicted as "Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB Modem 9205", driver version 2.0.7.4 (amongst others). I can turn on and off Cellular Network in the action center. But with Settings -> Cellular Network I get a status text saying the account is not activated. When I try Cellular Network -> Advanced Options -> Add an Internet APN, on "save" I get the error message "The mobile device is missing or not operating properly". The SIM card is active, I tested another one in exchange, same result.I also uninstalled and reinstalled the device driver according to https://support.lenovo.com/de/en/documents/migr-75433 with the option DEFAULTIMAGE=6. Any help appreciated!T.

My system is a ThinkPad T510 (4349-4JG) with a Qualcomm Gobi 2000 module. I'm having problems using this for GSM DialUp connections. A colleague have a W500 with Ericsson F3507g and there it work's flawlessly. He uses the following initialization string to do this at+cfun=5;+cbst=71,0,1. This one does not work with the Gobi module. I have had some success with manually connecting to the virtual com port with a terminal client and then setting at+cfun=1 and at+cbst=14,0,1. Problem is that the connection is very unstable and very often I can't connect at all. I'm dialing up unix machines with a Siemens TC65 module and I can do this everytime without problems using an external comport modem from a different computer.  Hopefully someone have a solution for this?

Hi all, I've just bought a new ThinkPad W510 equipped with the Mobile BroadBand Option: Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB Mobile Broadband Device 9205. I've installed from scratch Windows 7 Ultimate - 64bit as the Operating System and then I've updated every specific driver using the Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update v.4.0 utility. So, in Network and Sharing Center, I've a new running Mobile BroadBand Connection labeled as Verizon Wireless and then it comes my problem. I'm writing from ITALY and in my country there is NO Verizon Roaming Connection available. I'm also using a pre-paid contract SIM card with Vodafone IT provider, inserted in the correct back-battery SIM-slot. Is there a way to configure the Gobi 9205 device to work correctly with Vodafone provider? I've just searched a lot on google without results. The only suggestions derive from this web page: CLICK HERE But it seems to be a specific GobiLoader for Gobi 9201/9202 device and not for mine 9205. I've tried to launch the loader.exe but it seems that the file and some specific informations about the firmware/driver mismatch from the two versions. So, is there any official Lenovo way to use Mobile Connection with Vodafone provider? Thank you all in advance!

Answer:ThinkPad W510 and Qualcomm Gobi 2000 9205

Hi guys, after a research inside the driver unpackaged folder I've found a Readme doc file. I've found the way to install another firmware for Gobi 2000 9205 with specific provider informations. After a complete uninstall of Qualcomm Gobi 2000 drivers, at the command prompt, in the folder with the unpackaged driver, I need to enter this string: Setup.exe /i /l DEFAULTIMAGE=0 GPS=1 WIN7DRIVER=1 LOCATIONDRIVER=1 where the "DEFAULTIMAGE=0" substring indicates the provider to use.It seems that installation process completes fine, I can find inside the "C:/Program Data/QUALCOMM/" folder, a log file which indicates that the firmware loaded is the one from the "0" folder, where "0" means Vodafone. These are the informations about the folder with the corresponding firmware I've found on google: Vodafone 0Verizon 1AT&T 2Sprint 3T-Mobile 4Generic UMTS (North America) 5Generic UMTS (Europe) 6Telefonica 7TIM 8Orange 9Telstra 10 But the problem is not solved. Despite the Vodafone information has been clearly written inside the log file, in my Network and Sharing Center there is always "Verizon Wireless" as WWAN network connection :-( How can I solve this problem? Why is the Verizon provider persistent even if I've installed the driver with the "0" (Vodafone) default image? Where am I wrong?I'm an IBM of Italy employee and I need a working WWAN connection with Vodafone provider ASAP. Thank you in advance!

Hi, this is my first post to the Lenovo forums. I have a ThinkPad T510 that has a Qualcomm Gobi 2000 WWAN card installed. I'm wondering how I would go about obtaining a SIM card for my laptop. Can it be used with any service? (E.G. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon) Would the laptop be capable of running GPS Navigation? Would/could the laptop be assigned a phone number? I'm very new to the idea of WWAN on a laptop, so bear with me! I may ask some silly questions...

Hello, I have a small question about the QualComm Gobi 2000 in the ThinkPad X201 3680-1T2, I wonder if I can send SMS with it in my laptop. I brought SMSCaster however it gives me an error, I have no idea how I can get it to send SMS. Can someone point me into the correct directions to send a SMS using the Gobi 2000, please state the software when used or the settings (and where I can find the settings to enable SMS). Thank you for your supprt. PS: for those who are unfamiliar with the ThinkPad X201 3680-1T2, it is not a touchpad version.

Answer:ThnkPad X201 3680-1T2; QualComm Gobi 2000 question

When you open Access Connections, is the SMS icon on the Tools tab greyed out or in color?  When you left-click your Mobile Broadband icon on the Tools tab (in Access Connections), do you have an option with which to enable SMS?  I have have a similar question for my X201 3249 (about which I have made a similar post).  I have read on the Lenovo Community about SMS problems with Windows 7 but, considering many of these postings were made over a year ago, one would think that a solution to this problem would have been found by now.

Hi, guys! I know this error about unauthorized card is very regular. I know a reason. Nevertheless I need a help. I've got an x220 laptop with i5-2520m and broadband option installed in it - an official Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB Modem 9205 (78y1399). WLAN card is also exist. Laptop and Gobi 2000 are from Lenovo and purchased officially. The drivers for modem and boot loader are downloaded from Lenovo's site. All nesessary drivers and patches for Microsoft Windows 7 and Lenovo are installed too. With initial BIOS v.1.04 the system works fine, with the only one problem - modem isn't presented in Access Connection since the laptop cold starts. So I've to load the default settings in setup every time the laptop cold starts and restart the laptop. I know this error has been fixed in new BIOS. After the newest BIOS 1.16 was flashed the system halts if I try to access setup (after F1) or after cold start. The error message you know - "1802: Unauthorized network card.... (05c6/9205) . System is halted". Also, as the modem isn't set to default stage it's not visible in Access Connection. In Hardware Manager the modem looks fine and can be tested. I had to downgrade to BIOS 1.04. The questions are:1. I know this Qualcomm Gobi 2000 (78y1399) isn't in compatibility list of x220. It's a surprise for me. Why so as both products are from Lenovo and 78y1399 is supported by x201, for example?2. Why the 78y1399 isn't presented in new BIOSes white li... Read more

Without paying attention to the saying " do not change something if it works" I did an automatic upgrade of the system of my new lenovo t410. I used the automatic system update software included in the original  installaton.I got a message stating that 1 package did not install ThnkPad Wirells WAN (UNPD) Driver. I trried the manuall installation. Now the message was: "The installer was interuupted before Qualcomm Gobi 2000 Package for Lenovo could be installed. You need to restart the installer try again". I tried several time, I got all the times the same message. I took the computer with me for a trip and when I was anxious to use the 3G connection I realized that it is no longer liested in the devices for connection (Fn+F5). The device manager shows an question mark in the devive and indicates that no driveers are installed. I tried to uninstall the Gobi Package , which is verison 1.1.80, not the upgraded one I also get an error message saying "The installer was interuupted before Qualcomm Gobi 2000 Package for Lenovo could be installed. You need to restart the installer try again". So I have a brand new computer that I bought because it had a buil in 3G modem that I cannot use because I did the recommended  upgrade of the system. I read that some user had a similar problem but I did not understand how it was solved. I will appreciatte it if someone could send me some advise. Thanks in advance, Pablo from Spain

Answer:t410 automatic system update induces Qualcomm Gobi 2000 not functioning

You need to restart the system and run the automated install again. If that fails you need to visit lenovo.com and manually download the driver from the networking section of your specific Lenovo nnnn-xxx model number.

HiI recently came by a HP GOBI 2000 wwan cardThis exact model: NEW HP Gobi2000 HSUPA 2G 3G WCDMA WWAN UMTS Wi Fi Card GPS UN2420 I know this might be a long shot, but are there any workarounds to getting such a card to work in a W530?I tried pluggin it in, and whereas the first driver installs, the "Lenovo broadband activation" fails, the card shows up with a question mark in device manager, and troubleshooting it in "adapter settings" states that "there might be a problem with the driver"I know that the chipset should be supported, so what is the problem here? Bevpro, If everything is correctly installed, then you should be able to connect using Lenovo Access Connections. I have the same card, and I'm able to connect via Access Connections. Access Connections (Advanced view) should have two profiles:HSPA Mobile Broadband -- this is the one for AT&TVerizon WirelessSelect HSPA Mobile Broadband profile, and it should walk you through connecting to AT&T. Good luck,

Hello all, I would like to know if anyone has tried ( without hacking the bios or anything like that ) any of the other 3G modems for the lenovo S10-3t - ad does anyone know where I can purchase the " approved " 3G modems that will work ? I have done a search and can't find anything solid - I actually purchased a Qualcomm GOBI from CDW the exact same one they offer on the Lenovo site and the exact one mentioned here in these forums - and I get the unauthorized card error ! I called Lenovo for support and the gentlemen I worked with had no clue what to do quite frankly was really no help at all - I was even deferred to Quallcomm to their tech support and they pretty much said its Lenovos problem - so here I am with a 3G modem that doesn't work and before I purchase another one I want to ensure it definitely works - Any ideas ? Thanks

Answer:S10-3T Approved 3G modems ?QualComm GOBI doesn't work

It might be the same GOBI model but different Vendor ID and Product ID. I've personally seen the VID/PID of the Ericsson and Huawei modems posted in the other thread so it's safe to say that they will work with the S10-3T. However, finding where to buy those exact modems can be a problem. I would guess it will only be available at the Lenovo site soon.

Hey Giro,

You have  ThinkPad Wireless WAN (UNDP) Driver 1.1.250 and ThinkVantage Access Connections  5.95 for windows 7.  ThinkVantage Access Connection 5.95 for XP and if this is correct I would suggest you uninstall both driver and Access connections. Then load Access Connection and then your driver and see if that resolves the issue.

Answer:X200t: Qualcomm Gobi for Windows 7 / Verizon WWAN card

Jim, I hope you have this working by now, but if not you should know the Lenovo have released Windows 7 Qualcomm BETA drivers, which (at least for my W500) seems to be working fine. You'll find the Win 7 BETA page here and the Qualcomm beta drivers here (ThinkPad UNDP Wireless WAN Driver) I had to uninstall the drivers I had installed from Vista, and then install these. After that , since I have a Ericsson F3507g, I also had to install the Ericsson drivers as well - don't know if this is relevant for yoy. I have this running on Lenovo W500 installed with Win 7 x64 build 7100 and build 7232. Hope this helps,Zorroson

Answer:X120e Gobi 2000 v Gobi 3000

Hello,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

Question: T510: Gobi 2000

I am an insurance salesman, not an IT guy, so it was a painful experience, but I got it done. When delivered, I had chosen configured for WWAN.  I discovered that I had to now order a Wireless card.  That done, I followed the picture for installation that one needs a magnifying glass to read.  There is no instructions on how to hook up the wires to the card, and I had to struggle to get the wires to lay in a manner that would allow me to close everything up.  The first couple of tries resulted in the wires popping off as soon as I tried to secure the card in its slot. Next was getting a mobile broadband data plan.  I chose Verizon and wanted a minimum monthly plan.  To choose the Lenovo option would mean a 2 year committment at the highest price per month.  The only problem is that few people at Verizon know how to set this up.  I was transferred to a tech I think may be in Atlanta, but he was the only Verizon tech that understood what I wanted.  You have to insist to Verizon that you have an embedded chip wireless card.  They will try their best to get you to install a USB dongle.  With the Gobi chip, your equipment is customer provided (CPE) so Verizon will allow you a month to month contract and no cancellation charges.  I found out that I could make a small software change and get the Gobi to work with Sprint, so I am waiting to see how Verizon works out.  If I don't like them, I can switch without... I am poised to purchase an X201 any minute now...but I need some info before I do...

I am currently using a Verizon Wireless USB "air card" (VZAccess) for my mobile/anytime/everywhere internet connection.  I was going to upgrade my device to the new LTE 4G card and extend my plan for another 2 years for wireless through Verizon.  However, I am just now learning about GOBI - I was NOT going to include that option in my new ThinkPad, but now I'm wondering if I should.  I would LOVE not having to mess with that card sticking out of the USB port all the time, so the GOBI option sounds appealing.

My question is this:  the only GOBI option is 2000 3G.  So what is actually the better option - and what are the advantages...Verizon 4G USB modem with 4G monthly service plan (now actually cheaper than previous 3G plan), or the integrated GOBI 3G.  If I am completely confused about the whole 3G/4G thing, will some please explain?  I am of the mind that 4G is better, that the plan is better, but the actual card is a nuisance...that GOBI would be more convenient, but then is an older, almost outdated technology... ??

Any help would be appreciated!  Thank you.

Lisa

Answer:Help, please! Verizon LTE 4G USB vs GOBI 2000 3G

Hello mate, First you have to know what the cariers call 4G is not really 4G. LTE is really a pre 4G.The Gobi 2000 support HSDPA+ who is 3.5G. HSDPA+ is the most commun connection for the moment. LTE is faster but the network just start to be deployed means there is a lot of black spots. In theses blackspots you will connect in HSDPA+.I think you will have at least 2 years before the LTE network will be deployed.Normally the real 4G will be finalized soon. The race is beetween WIMAX 2 and LTE Advanced. Normally LTE Advanced should be compatible with LTE but really nobody knows. For my point of view, for the moment, it's a bit risky to change everything to gain a bit of speed. This thing remembers me the war beetween HDDVD and BluRay. And at the end people who bought HDDVD have now a useless thing you can't use anymore. For my usage the Gobi 2000 is perfect because is just a second connection when i'm away. The speed is far enough to browse the net and check the mail. Even for download is not too bad but anyway in Australia cost so much money for a plan with a couple of Gigs, I try to don't download too much.

For the past week my Verizon connection won't disconnect.  If you click disconnect in the Windows control panel and in VZ access manager it does not complete the process and stays connected.  No error, just doesn't disconnect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the driver and VZ Access Manager.  No change. Interesting, I uninstalled the Lenovo driver and VZ Access Manager.  Then I installed the Lenovo driver.  As soon as the Lenovo driver was installed Verizon was connected and I cannot disconnect. In Windows, under properties, I have selected "Do not automatically connect" and in VZ Access Manager I have selected "NDIS - Manually connect".  Does not have an impact.   It's like the connect switch is forced on and I don't know why.  I am out of ideas and need some of yours.  This is an X201 with Windows 7 and the latest drivers and VZAM version.  It's a domain machine too.   Thoughts? Thanks! Peter

Hi guys,I have a t410s with gobi 2000 and t-mobile sim card with unlimited data plan. Is there any way I can make T-Mobile USA SIM Card to work with ThinkPad Gobi 2000. I followed the topic"Thinkpad + T-Mobile = WORKS!" posted by "LoveIsMe ". I connected with T-MOBILE, but I only can surf t-mobile homepage. Is there any ways I can get rid of this limitation? Thanks.

Answer:Gobi 2000 + T-mobile

You probably need to configure a custom profile in Access Connections to get it working. However, you will not be able to get 3G speeds on T-Mobile with the Gobi 2000 since it does not support T-Mobile's 1700mhz 3G band.

Hi Everyone Question to the forum:I've got X201T with Gobi 2000, and an EVDO subsciption.Currently using the USB modem that comes with the subscription, and trying to use the Gobi.I cannot connect to the provider (SMART TELECOM) using Access Connection software from Lenovo. The error I get is "SIM card found. Unable to retrieve IMSI." What am I missing here? CheersNick

Answer:X201T with Gobi 2000

Take out your battery from your tablet. Check behind your tablet to see if there's a simcard inserted in the simcard slot. That may be what's causing you the problem with SIM card found. If it's there, remove it.

I just placed an order a T410 with Mobile Broadband Gobi 2000 GPS 3G.I selected Open SIM card for Verizon May I ask if this card support GSM (e.g. able to use GPRS, EDGE and 3G)? Is it unlock and could be use with any GSM carriers around the globe? (I am frequent traveller and have to switch the mobile number quite often) Thanks for the information, I appreciated!James [Update]: I just called the Technical support to ask about this and the technician told me that, I cannot use other SIM card than Verizon one. This means I have to stick with Verizon Open SIM forever???? Is it true???

Answer:Gobi 2000 GPS 3G is unlocked and is GSM?

well...the answer to both of your questions is YES.Verizon tech support (and it's NOT the first time i encounter it...) knows nothing regarding the Gobi.

Hi, Anybody have a chance to activate the Gobi 2000 with Sprint, I read somewhere it is possible but no instruction. I can only see AT&T and Verizon for my options. Thanks

Answer:W510 with Gobi 2000

I'm having the exact same problem activating the GOBI 2000 with Sprint.  I'm running Win 7 x64.  The drivers from Lenovo are installed as well as Sprint Smartview for "embedded devices".  I've given sprint the MEID number from tools -> mobile info within smartview and I'm having no luck.  The accepted the number but still no go.  I found on the sprint site where to user the PRL_Upload utility for GOBI 1000 and 2000 devices but it just immediately fails when trying to connect to the device.  Have you had any luck with this??  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

So I got a SSD for my T410 and thought what the hell lets go for Windows 8. All is sweet apart from my Gobi 2000 mobile broadband. I found some beta Windows 8 drivers and after learning Access Connections is not supported on Windows 8, I downloaded and installed the Dependency Package. Now when I launch Lenovo Mobile Broadband Connect I get the message "Mobile Broadband device not found". In Windows 8 under Networks side bar, it just says "Mobile Broadband (Off)". Any ideas?

First of all thank you for a great product. I have had my x201 tablet with outdoor display for more than half a year and it has worked really well! The keyboard, mouse-buttons, display, design features, feel, support (Sweden) and so on has been excellent so far! Yes, there are small design flaws like the pitching sound and a little accuracy problems at the edges, but it really is small compared to the positive things. I think you need some encouragement these days, espacially with the  accuracy problems facing the x220t. However, my question is about the GPS reciever with the Gobi 2000. When I use the GPS enabler it takes a long time to get a fix, and also the reception isnīt very good. Is there anything I can do to improve the performance? I saw in an old thread here on the forum about the problem, but it was for over a year ago and probably somewhat outdated. Thanks, Andre

My new Gobi 2000 WWAN PCI-Card arrived today (this one). However, I am having trouble installing it. I tried both HP and Lenovo drivers for GOBI 2000. Under "Device Manager" I see "WAN Miniport (Network Monitor) #2" and "HP un2420 Mobile Broadband Module". Both of them dont have correct drivers.  I read in some forum post that sometimes the BIOS whitelist has to be modified in order to get the card to work.. how would I do that? Is there any other way of getting it to work? I care about the GPS more than about the 3G. Cant use Access Connections because of Win8.  Thanks in advance.

I'm ready to throw this thing back to Lenovo.  I have the GOBI broadband card installed, installed the latest drivers, installed the bootup upgrade, have the latest BIOS, replaced the GOBI with a new one and the same thing keeps happening.  My GOBI keeps cycling offline every couple of seconds.  I can watch the device manager and it keeps refreshing first showing the GOBI and then it's gone.  The radio button recycles also.  It first shows it as off, then disabled, then it diappears then comes back as off then disabled so on and so forth.  Nothing seems to help and I'm fed up with this thing.  I have to have the broadband option however, I now have to go back to my old Dell to work with as I cannot figure this one out. Windows 7 64 bit, 8gig of RAM, I7 core processor, 300gig SATA HD

Answer:W510 GOBI 2000 issues

This thing is getting worse.  I can't even work with the device manager as it keeps refreshing every time that the GOBI goes online and offline.  What a piece of junk.  This thing is going back as soon as I get back from travel!!!!

Hi, I have a T410 which is a solid PC.  0 issues.... Until I switch on the Gobi 2000 card and connect.  A which point, after a random duration ( 3 mins - 30 mins ), will cause the PC to lockup. By lockup I mean the mouse freezes, everythin stops responding.  Display remains continuous, no BSOD etc. Only a hard power button reset will turn the PC off and then on again. The latest drivers posted are installed. Does anyone else have this, or have a suggestion?  Thanks

Answer:T410 Gobi 2000 PC lockup

A couple things to try.

1) re-seat the Gobi card
2) uninstall and reinstall the drivers
3) What connection manager are you using? Access Connections, or a carrier connection manager or Win7 CM? Does the hang only happen with a specific connection manager?

Answer:x100e Win7 64 Bit with GOBI 2000

OK -Just installed the latest BIOS, and all the recent power management updates. The WWAN radio finally powers on- and I noticed the presentation of the FN-F5menu has been changed with a "Master Control" switch-which must be enabled before powering on the individual radios. So it must have been some sort of power management/ x100e BIOS/ Gobi WWAN driver issue. So far so good- but I am going to keep testing some more... -bill

Hey guys, I'm planning on buying an X120e when I visit the US next month (for some strange reason they're not selling it in Europe at all). I'm interested in the mobile broadband modem option, but $125 is too much for me to pay at this moment, and I'm not sure whether it'll be locked to US networks. I would therefore like to buy the Gobi 2000 or 3000 later on from eBay and use it in the laptop. Would this work fine on O2 or Three UK, or would I run into some odd issues?

Answer:Gobi 2000 modem with X120e

Helo,

I do not know if it will work, but when you look for a replacement 3G modem, make sure it has the Lenovo/IBM part number on that is listed in your X120e's Hardware Maintenance Manual as a generic OEM one might not work with the X120e.

I was just wondering if this is normal. Even when I have Gobi 2000 turned off in Windows, if I turn off my comp and then turn it back on, the led light indicator for the gobi card broadband lights on until I log into Windows.Where the bluetooth light and WLAN turns on for a brief moment during the BIOS screen, but then turns off the moment after (while the WWAN light stays on still). Is this normal? Or is there a setting I can tweak, since I added the gobi card after I bought my x201T. It wasn't factory preinstalled.

Hi Axure!

Yes the Gobi 2000 is inside the X201T. You'll find it in the Hardware Maintenance Manual.

"Open SIM Card: WW" means that there is no country/carrier-specific SIM card included (WW=WorldWide).

Hope this helps!

Hi all, I have a W510 with a Qualcomm Gobi 2000 card.  It seems to work ok with the software that comes with it. But I want to increase the GPS position update rate from each 3 seconds to maybe twice each second.  Is there a NMEA configuration statement to do this? I also want to programatically with an API turn the GPS on/off.  Currently this must be done with a button press in the ThinkAdvantage GPS Enabler tool. Third, I am looking for documentation of the particular dialect of NMEA sentences used.  There is a proprietory sentence $PQXFI that may contain interesting accuracy information.  Example: $PQXFI,192908.9,5955.424660,N,01055.895431,E,224.5,45.93,21.33,3.84*66 Finally some NMEA sentences appears to have ilegal information in them.  Is really nan allowed in the NMEA standard?  Example: $GPVTG,nan,T,nan,M,0.0,N,0.0,K,A*23 Thanks

Hi, I have a X201 laptop from US and I would like to use it in Singapore with a valid SIM card from M1.Although I can connect to internet using mobile broadband successfully, but GPS does not seem to work well with it.I have updated Lenovo GPS to latest 2.60, but I do not see a XTRA (A-GPS) in GPS mode.I understand that XTRA needs WWAN connectivity, though I have WWAN working but it's still indicated as "not activated" for Lenovo software. Is there anyway I can change (e.g. registry setting) to "activate" mobile broadband so I can use XTRA in Lenovo GPS?

Never had any issues before; I'd always see the AT&T connection available from the Network Connections area.  This is Windows 7 64-bit.  I put the SIM into an AT&T authorized USB data card to test being able to use my account on other devices.  As soon as I returned the SIM to my battery compartment, I could no longer connect.  I've tried replacing the SIM several times as well as uninstalling/reinstalling the Gobi driver.  What else might I be able to try - this is so frustrating! ThinkPad T510 with Win7 64-bit

Answer:No longer able to connect to AT&T 3G with Gobi 2000 Modem

To be clear, the Gobi 2000 does show up in Device Manager (and ipconfig /all with MAC address).  And Fn+5 has it listed as on.  I just see nothing in my Windows 7 Active Connections taskbar pop-up.

Hi, I have installed new win 8 on my T410s and I cant find the driver for the gobi 2000. can you direct me? thanks Doron

Answer:gobi 2000 driver for windows 8 - thinkpad t410s

Hi, doronei

I cannot find any Windows 8 drivers for your system on Lenovo's website. Drivers are sometimes compatible with different versions of operating systems than those listed, so I would try the drivers here and see if it helps. You will likely need the driver for activation of the card and the driver itself, so make sure you get both of them. If it does not help, then you will be able to uninstall it from Device Manager.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi,I am a newbie to this stuff. I cannot get my mobile broadband card to work.I have an X121e which has upgradeable mobile broadband. Foolishly I did not buy this card at time of purchase. I have bought an unlocked Gobi 2000 and installed this and the sim card. I have installed the drivers and the broadband package from lenovo. The Gobi 2000 is shown under ports in device manager (windows 7 64bit) with a com3 allocation.However...in 'access connections' there is no adapter so I cannot set up a mobile broadband profile. Only the lan and wireless card are options. Windows 7 internet connections only gives me wired, wireless and modem options. Searching the internet I think this card needs to be shown as a network adapter.Ideas anyone please?

Hi. I've got a T410 and a X201 that are running Windows XP Pro with a Qualcomm Gobi 2000 adapter and wonder if there is any other software that can be used instead of Access Connections? On other Thinkpads with the Ericsson F3507g I've been using Ericsson Wireless Manager instead of AC that I found to work better. Hopefully there are some other options for the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 as well. Any advice for other software than AC would be appreciated.

Answer:X201 T410 Win XP Gobi 2000 Connection Software

You are right, access connections is a bit too US users oriented, they are just discovering the cellular connections, and they are not so used with apn and other related settings. So I searched a bit and below there is what I discovered so far. You can simply use the dialup connection, quick easy to configure and light, but you loose the signal strenght monitor, and and other advanced functions. Alternatively I tried the mobile2go sw that comes with some Vaios it works pretty well, it manages the short messages, can be used to force the connection in 2g or in 3g and so on. There's also the vanilla Qualcomm dashboard, it's clean and quick but is stuck to the USB ID of the specific manufacturers (acer, toshiba...) so a bit of tweaking to the included driver's inf is needed, or you get the messages "missing device". If you are a vodafone customer you can also use the usual VMC, is full featured but is heavy as access connections. Maybe there's also other options.

Dear all I have a x201 and build in a Gobi 2000. If I connect via Sim card, the connection is always "GPRS" only, even though there are faster connections like edge and 3g available. What should I do? How can I change the connection to be faster? Thanks a lot in advance!

Answer:Problems with WWAN Device Gobi 2000 / x201

What connection manager do you use? If it's an Access Connection there is prefered network type settings within profile settings.

When I ordered my T410s, I chose the "upgradeable" option.  What does that exactly mean?  Does this mean that I have all the hardware already pre-installed, and I just need a SIM card and a service plan?  I noticed what appears to be a SIM card slot underneath the battery.  Should have thought ahead when I ordered the ThinkPad and had them set it up ready to go from the beginning.  Thanks.

Answer:Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradeable vs. Gobi 2000

Upgradable means you have the SIM slot and built-in antenna, but need to insert a WWAN mini PCI adapter like the Gobi 2000. So you have all the hardware except the WWAN adapter. The WWAN adapter is easy to insert and not that expensive to buy so it's no big deal, but if you are going to use mobile broadband you could as well have bought the Gobi 2000 instead of upgradable. You need a SIM card and a plan as well from a mobile network operator in your country. -gan

I'm getting such mixed information from retailers, and no answer at all from Lenovo after hanging on the phone for an hour. Some retailers say this machine does NOT have WWAN, some say it can be upgraded, and some say it is enabled (ready to go?). I appreciate that there is the NVY4LUK (glossy screen, WWAN upgradable), and NVY5FUK (anti-glare screen, not WWAN upgradable, but I am specifically looking at the top model NVY5EUK.Can anyone state the true position? I don't want to assume it's included if it's not, because the retailer will just claim that they never said it had 3G Broadband in the first place!

Answer:Edge 11 - NVY5EUK: does it have the Gobi 2000 card installed?

An update ... I placed an order today with a UK supplier for an NVY5EUK on the condition that he first find out whether the machine was fully equipped for 3G Broadband - their web site stated 'no', their techie stated 'no', I quoted the 'onebookcatalogue.pdf' from the Lenovo web site, he managed to speak to someone at Lenovo and came back with the answer that it does have full 3G Broadband. As the majority of Lenovo sellers don't seem to know what they are selling (similar problems with the AMD specs too), I wonder how many potential sales are lost because customers think they are getting less than they really are with Lenovo, and go elsewhere for the features they are looking for. Or they get a machine that does not live up to the retailer's spec, and blame Lenovo. It is surely not beyond the wit of Lenovo to publish on their web site a definitive and accurate specifications of all the machines they are currently selling - after all, they are the only ones who can really know. Most retailers seem to rely on www.icecat.biz, which is at best incomplete, and at worst misleading. When my Edge 11 arrives in a couple of days I will know for sure. I trust it will also have the anti-glare screen I am hoping for!

Hi I believe my W510 (4389-2SU) has a Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband card installed but I can't tell for your sure. It's not showing up in the device manager list. I've run the Gobi 2000 driver installer and also installed Access Connections. I use ATT so I ran the Gobi coniguration utility to use the ATT image (2) which it seemed to do with no errors. I also updated the Gobi based code as suggested on the driver downloads site How can I tell whether the Gobi card is installed without opening the machine up? Thanks Mark

Answer:Checking for presence of Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband Card

Hello mate, You don't have a WWAN modem in your machine. The 4329-2SU has just a WWAN option.

Hello, I've just bought a Gobi 2000 WWAN Card for my Thinkpad Edge 13 in order to use WLAN and WWAN. I assumed that, because I can use this both functions on demand with my T400 (with integrated WWAN option). Now as I got the card I was shocked, that there are not enough screws to hold the WLAN and the WWAN card and that there seems no way in sharing the antenna cables. Do you know a way run the WWAN card together with the former installed WLAN card, cause I would like to use the WWAN option as well as the WLAN option without changing the cards and antenna connectors. Do you know a way to use both cards and share the antenna cables or it is only possible to run one of this both pcie cards ? Regards Jens

Hi I hope someone could assist.  I bought an E120 as my country does not see the X120e I had purchased a GOBI 2000 WWAN Card from Lenovo re-seller.  The card passes through the whitelist just fine although it is not stated as one of the supported WWAN devices. I tried installing the 7xwc48ww.exe (X120e and Edge 11 WAN drivers) to see if it would work.  The GOBI Loader installs, but the driver does not load, meaning - Under device manager - PORTS - Gobi loader              - Under device manager - Network Adapters - No Gobi WAN Card  I also tried the solution from -http://curiouslynerdy.com/2009/05/qualcomm-gobi-wwan-card-on-windows-7/ but still no joy. I believe the X120 and E120 are very similar, so I assume the Gobi WAN should be able to work. Can someone suggest another solution?   Thanks much!

So during our image building process for the Lenovo T410s we discovered that the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB Mobile Broadband Device 9205 is not compatible with AT&T Communication Manager version 7.2 The Lenovo Access Connections software must be used in order to connect to AT&T.  We create our own custom image for our laptops here and try to keep bloatware to a minimum. The Ericsson F3507g card which we use on our X301 work with the AT&T Communication Manager. Is there any particular reason why a mobile broadband card was chosen for the T410s that is not compatible with a carrier's own connectivity software?

Answer:T410s - Gobi 2000 HS-USB 9205 incompatibility with AT&T Communication Manager

Note that you don't need either  Communication Manager or Access Connections if running Windows 7. A 'non-bloatware' solution is to just use the GOBI drivers from the Lenovo site and Windows itself.

Hello, I'm experiencing massive problems with the BIOS versions newer than the 1.10a release. As soon as I apply the two newer versions 1.11 (6XET32WW) and 1.13 (6XET34WW), the WWAN device Gobi 2000 isn't listed any more in the device manager and a connection using this device isn't possible any more. The newest Access Connections states that the device isn't found.Applying the setup defaults after updating the BIOS doesn't resolve the problem. Searching the internet shows, that multiple people are struggling with this problem. As soon as I roll back to the 1.10a (6XET31WW) BIOS version, the problem doesn't exist any more. System details:* Thinkpad Model: 2876-27G* all newest thinkpad/thinkvantage packages installed* all currently available windows updates installed* Working BIOS: 1.10a (6XET31WW)* Problem causing BIOS: 1.11 (6XET32WW) and 1.13 (6XET34WW) Regards,rotorhead

Answer:X100e BIOS Problems with WWAN Device Gobi 2000

Hello rotorhead, welcome to Lenovo forums!

Please try this:

1. In BIOS under "Security" / "IO Port Access" disable the devices "WiMAX" and "Wireless WAN" 2. Reboot 3. Shut down the machine completely. 4. Go into BIOS and enable "WiMAX" and "Wireless WAN"

If that doesnīt work please uninstall WWAN-driver, Access Connection und Hot key driver, then install first the hotkey driver, AC and WWAN driver.

When I place a simcard in the cardholder. The Lenovo software says 'no simcard installed'It's a KPN(dutch) simcard. The WWAN (Gobi 2000 card) in my X100e won't connect if the card stays enabled (FN-F5) during a system boot or resume from standby.  If I leave it disabled during a reboot or standby/resume and enable it afterwards, everything seems to work fine. I'm using HSPA and I'm in an area with good signal.  The signal strength fades in/out every few seconds according to the Windows Broadband icon when it isn't working.  The signal stays solid and there are no issues if I boot the system with the card disabled initially. I'm running the latest bios (1.23) and the ThinkVantage tools have updated all the software on Windows 7 Professional.  I've loaded the BIOS defaults a few times now and Lenovo wants the unit back to replace the Gobi 2000 card. The X100e is a recent purchase from Lenovo Canada and it was ordered with the Gobi 2000 card.  Access Connections (AC) wants me to activate on Verizon (not available in Canada), but it does seem to work with a HSPA sim from a Canadian carrier... but AC always prompts to tell me that I'm roaming.  I'd like to get that fixed too. Has anyone experienced this problem?  Any suggestions?  I think it's a s/w problem but I'll ship it back to Lenovo as per their tech support. Thanks...

Answer:X100e WWAN Gobi 2000 Fails if Enabled During Boot/Resume

The X100e is now headed back to Lenovo for EasyServ warranty repair. An identical unit we bought does not exhibit this behavior at all so I'm inclined to believe it's a hardware problem.  The Lenovo phone tech's recommendation to send it in to get the Gobi 2000 card replaced appears to be correct.

Hello there,I recently purchased a Lenovo w510 without a integrated broadband modem. (Gobi 2000 - Mini PCI express card)I notice that the slot for a simcard is present in the laptop, and am now wondering what it would take for me to install this product myself. Has anyone had any experience/success with this? The product description is here: http://www.qualcomm.com/common/documents/analyst/Gobi_2000_ProductSheet.pdf So it's a Mini PCI express that we're dealing with. The basic installation method is here: http://pc-level.com/2009/02/installing-wireless-card-on-laptop/ (also I've just noticed that the procedure is well documented in the user manual): //start menu/help and support/lenovo access help/replacing devices But I'm wondering if anyone else has made this upgrade post-sale and had success/challenges. Thanks, SBK

Answer:Installing a GOBI 2000 (post-sale upgrade) - Mini PCI express card

I think you can, provided that you obtain a Gobi 2000 card with Lenovo FRU. A generic Gobi 2000 card or a Gobi 2000 card from another vendor will not work in your W510 without BIOS modding.

The newest version of the Value Added Package asks you to uninstall the old one. But when attempting to uninstall it gives "error reading setup init. file".
Is there any way to force uninstall?

Answer:Unable to uninstall Value Added Package

Hi there,

unfortunately there is no way to force uninstall. But when thinking logically you could try the following:

Try to open and to exctract the VAP and copy the *.ini files into the VAP folder on your harddisk. If this does not work then the only chance would be to recover your machine and install the newest VAP. This should work then...
