PeerBlock Now Has a Signed Driver

Question: PeerBlock Now Has a Signed Driver

PeerBlock is a fork of the popular Peer Guardian 2 software. Well the folks that are developing it have just received a legally signed driver for PeerBlock which means that it will run on Windows Vista and Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit) without the problems that were plaguing Peer Guardian 2.

You can check it out at PeerBlock Development

Preferred Solution: PeerBlock Now Has a Signed Driver

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Am trying to install HP Deskjet 630c printer and it keeps telling me this driver is not digitally signed. I just put Windows xp on the computer. What does this mean and can I get help? I am not very computer literate and any help would greatly appreciated. Many thanks Paula.

Answer:driver is not digitally signed

"Not digitally signed" means Microsoft have not tested this driver and verified it to be compatible with Win XP.  This does not mean it will not work, you should click on the "continue anyway" to install your print driver.  If this is a concern you should check the HP web site for newer driver tested by MS.Kim

I recently got a docking station for my laptop (Dell precision M65 w/WinXP Pro SP3 all updates) and when I plugged it in (after all the plug-n-play stuff detected the new docking station stuff), the mouse plugged into the dock USB port would not work (it worked fine previously when plugged into the laptop USB port). I undocked and plugged the mouse back into the laptop's port but it still didn't work.

I went into the device management applet and and tried to update the driver. There was nothing under "Mice and other pointing devices" except the PS/2 touchpad. Under "Human Interface Devices" there was an entry called "HID-Compliant device" If I deleted that device and then did a "scan for hardware changes" I would get the "found new hardware" popup in the tray and then breifly see "Dell USB Optical Mouse" during which the mouse would work but within 2 or 3 seconds it would switch to "HID-Compliant device" and then inform me that my hardware was ready to use at which point the mouse stopped working.

After much screwing around with the device manager and various other USB mice, I found that I could use the "Update Driver" right-click menu item to force the driver to "HID-Compliant mouse" by bypassing all the "Automatic" stuff. This resuted in a working mouse, but I have to do this every time I turn on the laptop.

I have noticed that while following the dialogs during... Read more

I'll try to keep this brief:

> Upgraded GFX cards to 2 x Asus EAH4980 (ATI Radeon HD4890 architecture) from NVidia 8800GTS

> Performed full format on HD and reinstalled Windows Vista X64 Home Premium as well as SP1 and SP2

> Installed chipset drivers etc.

> Installed bundled VGA drivers (8.592)

> Installed miscellaneous software/games

System was running very stable and performing well in Benchmarking tests and games. I then tried to update the VGA drivers to the latest versions, first from ATI's own website - Catalyst 9.8 with VGA driver displayed in Device Manager as 8.640 - and then from Asus' website - displayed as 8.630 in Device Manager.

No matter what drivers I update to I am met with BSOD errors as soon as I try to run any kind of media on my PC. The dump files/dxdiag info etc. is attached to this post.

Upon investigation I note that one driver is not loading and is listed as 'not digitally signed', namely

ATKDispLowFilter.sys

This driver is an AsusTek release. It appears to load ok before I perform these driver updates. I can find no reference to any issues with it either on Asus' forums or elsewhere so this doesn't appear to be a common problem.

I've tried to locate a signed version of the driver to no avail.

Any solution would be very much appreciated.

Phil

I have been trying now to install drivers for my Panasonic Digital Camera, which installs itself as a ZIP drive (it uses a 3.5 100MB ZiP disk instead of memory cards), and Fusion Dazzle which is an analog to digital convereter. Both plug in via USB. They used to work perfectly until I had to reformat and reinstall Windows on my computer.

I now get an error message that it is missing certain files (which ARE on the system) and it is looking for "C:\PCLEUSB.drv". When I point it to the correct driver location I get an error message saying that this driver has not been digitally signed to be compatible for Windows XP and will now exit installation.

I am using the most current drivers from the manufacturer and they say that they are Windows compatible and I am the first to have this problem. So far, they have been unable to assist.

Any suggestions?
Ed

Answer:Driver not Windows XP signed

usually the program will ask you if you want to continue, I have never experienced where it just "exited" on it's own. I always continue regardless but it is up to the user.

G'day. I'm trying to install my old VisionPLus DVB-T card into a Windows 7 O/S box and it won't recognise any of the old drivers. When I try to install the TwinHan Digital tv software, Windows can't/ won't install them.

I've downloaded and tried the latest (DigitalTV 3.4 Build 19-02_20090212) and windows comes up with "Driver not found". I've tried to install in compatability mode but still no good.

When installing the above, it identifies my card as “PCI CX-87A with MCU DVB-S/-C/-T/ATSC card”.

Out of all the available drivers on Twinhan's site, which would be the best for my card?

Thanks

The one written for Vista would be my choice, probably not one for W7 yet, may never be.

Looks like MS ha removed a way to disable unsigned drivers protection in Vista64, so probably is the same for 7

Good evening,

I just reinstalled XP on a friends machine that was pooched. It is a Dell DIM4400. Everything is working except for the sound card. It is a built in sound card. When the computer boots up the new hardware wizard comes up asking for a driver for a realtek AC97 Audio device. I have tried everything I can to install the driver but each time I try I get an error that the driver is not digitally signed and it won't install. If I try in safe mode it installs but I get a blue screen upon startup and have to reboot. I do not have the orignial Dell cd but I have tried every driver from the Dell site that should work on this model of computer. I have updated the chip set drivers on the motherboard etc. I just can't get this sound card to work. Any advice??

Hey,

So I just upgrade to Vista x64 and 4GB of memory (courtesy of OCZ).

However, when installing the x64 version of MagicDisc/MagicISO I get the following error:

Can I get around this?

Answer:Required Digitally Signed Driver?

Uhmmm... yes, you can by pressing F8 at boot time and choosing to ignore the warnings about unsigned drivers, but you have to do it each and every time you boot. There is a way to permanently disable that driver signing requirement but I'm leery to give out the info anymore since it hosed a few people's machines recently.

It wasn't my fault that they chose to continue using shitty old drivers, but they blamed me for the mistake they made anyway.

Vista x64 is a more secure and stable OS than the 32 bit version, and that's one of the primary reasons why: the driver signing requirement. Disabling it or 'getting around it' will more than likely end up causing you issues at some point.

Google can find the specific method to disable the signing requirement permanently, or a search here might find it since it's been posted about 3 times over the past 4 months or so.

Good luck, either way...

Hi, I finally have my File System mini-filter driver working great, and tested it a lot on Vista 64-bit using the testsigning boot option. All was fine.

However, when I turn testsigning OFF and try to start the service (the driver), I get the StartService failed with 577 - windows cannot verify the digital signature. Note that the driver in INSTALLED, and the Registry is updated, etc. I just can't start the service (even when running as Admin).

It is signed using a Microsoft cross-certificate, based on the original certificate issued by GlobalSign, as directed in MSDN. You can examine the certificate using the driver's properties, and all looks fine.

I also tried installing the certificate, but that made no difference. This should all be correct, except that it doesn't work!! Any idea what is going on here? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I thought I was all done with this project, but since it doesn't work, I am currently screwed. THANKS!

I recently purchased a new pc that came with win vista 64 bit premium home installed. I am now reloading all my old programs and I keep getting ?windows requires a digitally signed driver" error message. I also can't seem to play my old movie files, all of which played fine when I had Win XP. Apparently Vista does not want me to make my own decisions, so I am wondering how I might go about disabling all this extra secure vista crap. Can I go into Control panel and disable the BitLocker Drive Encryption? Or do I need uninstall 64bit and install the Vista 32 bit? Would that be a smooth transition? Would all my stuff work again if I had the less securitized 32bit Vista? Thanks for any help you may provide.
Regards,
William

Answer:windows requires digitally signed driver

Welcome to the Vista forums

1) You don't want to disable UAC (User Account Control) as it does a lot to protect your computer from various malware. If you really feel the urge to turn it off, then you can in control panel in the User Account section. Once turned off, you'll get the red shield in the bottom right saying it's disabled. Disable security warnings by opening security centre and going to "change how security centre warns me" or something and choose the "no warnings" option.

2) Just download the Vista codec pack (just Google it and you should find it) and DivX and you should have no problems watching videos.

3) You can install unsigned drivers on Vista 64 bit, do this by running an elevated command prompt (right click on command prompt in Start menu and click "run as administrator".

Type this and press enter bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

When you reboot, you should be able to install unsigned drivers.
Also, I looked on the HP website for your computer, and it has 6GB RAM, so going to Vista 32bit would only allow you to use about 3.5GB RAM. I also saw it only has an Nvidia 6150e onboard graphic card. Are you using this? As if you upgraded this to a graphic card, you'd notice better performance on Vista as well.

I have searched hi and low all over the internet to see if I could buy a wired ethernet adapter which has a 64 bit signed driver, but all of the ethernet cards I have been able to find are only compatible with the 32 bit version of Vista or they only have unsigned drivers for their ethernet cards. If you have a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 and you install a driver that has a Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) or Authenticode signature on the computer.
But in Device Manager, when you expand the corresponding device, right-click the driver, and then click Properties and then click the Driver Details button on the Driver tab, you may find that the driver file is displayed as unsigned! This issue occurs because of incorrect logic when the Authenticode flag in the catalog file of the driver is checked.
To fix this issue download and apply this hotfix from KB2619914.

A signed driver is not necessary in Windows. It is an extra security layer, as drivers can become corrupt by malware. If you obtained the driver from a trusted source (like the device manufacturer's website), you can go ahead and tell Windows to install it.

" The file nvdisp.drv is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs. You may be able to get a signed driver from the manufacturer of the hardware device"

but when i look through the ASUS home page i can't find my video card. Hi

The last few times I started my computer, the system comes with the warning:

"Windows requires a digitally signed driver
Driver: Broadcom NetDetect Driver
Service: BASFND
Publisher: Broadcom Corporation
Location: C:\Program Files\Bra...\BASFND.sys"

Windows suggests to uninstall the program or device that uses this driver and check the publishers support site to get a digitally signed driver.

The problem is that I have no idea of which program or hardware is using this driver. All the drivers I have installed in my computer are from the computer manufacturer.
I have also been at Broadcoms homepage and there is plenty of things to download there. But I dont want to ruin anything.

Suggestions on what to do?

System: Windows Vista 64

Answer:Windows requires a digitally signed driver

Broadcom is your onboard ethernet, I don't see why it would suddenly complain unless there was an update.:confused You can disable driver signing but it only cures the symptom and not the cause.

Windows Vista x64 decided to implement a 'security measure' by which all drivers must be 'digitally signed' to be allowed to install and run. I have a program which is compatible with Vista and x64 bit operating systems, however as its drivers are not digitally signed I cannot run it correctly - I recieve the message 'Windows requires a digitally signed driver' and access to the driver is blocked.

Is there a method of bypassing this?

Answer:'Windows requires a digitally signed driver' - How can I bypass this?

When you boot your system hit F8 and you can bypass it there. You will have to do this every boot. There are a couple applications out there that will do this for you but the names escape me right now.

Hi all, Following device:ThinkPad E531Graphics: Intel HD 4000System: Win7 Pro Following problem:1) Approx. 2 month ago a windows update caused a problem with the hdmi at my laptop. There was no connection to the TV possible anymore (I tried the TV, the cable and the hdmi device already).2) I installed a new driver (origin: Lenovo support page). Result: Windows messages that the driver is not digitally signed...Hence, the device "vga save" was set. What I've already tried, everything as admin:1) look for older drivers: Got only one and it didn't work2) Tried to install a driver directly from Intel: Didn't work3) Tried to disable the signing (GPEdit.msc -  code signature ...). Here I had the problem that I even have no line with the code signature to set the ignore property4) Tried to install the drivers (Intel and Lenovo) in the testmode. The waring message about unsigned drivers came5) Tried to create a certificate. Here the cmd said the command is not known.6) Tried to install the drivers (Intel and Lenovo) after setting the "TESTSIGNING" off (BCDEdit). The waring message about unsigned drivers came My question:Any ideas or similar experiences?I can not believe that the Lenovo or Intel drivers are not signed. But why Windows does not accept them?Is the available update to Win10 an option? Generally: Failure F40 (the failure is 40 cm in front of the monitor) is not excluded  Thank you very much in advance.Regards,Stefan

I have x220 with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Device manager shows under Storage Controllers "Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC host controller," but there is a yellow triangle with "!" and a Device Status Code 52 message "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device." I checked in C:\Drivers\WIN\Multicard and found two *.cat files--which, I understand, are required to confirm digital signature. Each of them (ridisk.cat and risdxc.cat) has a signed and valid certificate! So what is going on? Will the card reader work? Is there something wrong with how Windows 7 is treating the Ricoh driver, which I downloaded from the Lenovo site? Why should I be getting this grief?

Answer:Ricoh card reader driver-not digitally signed?

Hello,

Perhaps the driver is damaged?

Try deleting the Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC host controller from the Device Manager and then restarting the computer in order to let the Device Manager re-detect it and re-install the device drivers.  Does that solve the problem?

Trying to use a USB mouse. I have 3 logitech mice. None work because hidclass.sys and hidusb.sys are not digitally signed. If I f8 and disable driver signing enforcement, all 3 mice work, so I'm pretty certain that's the issue.

Tried "Update Driver" via device manager. Windows determined that I already had the best driver and wouldn't do anything.

Logitech does not furnish drivers for Win7. They rely on the native drivers.

Acer does not furnish mouse drivers. They refer you to the manufacturer of the mouse.

Tried copying the files in question from a 64bit machine that showed them to be digitally signed. Renamed the ones on my machine and pasted the ones from the "good" machine. Resolved nothing.

chkdsk /r found problems and repaired them. Didn't help.

sfc /scannow found problems that it could not resolve. Looked in CBS.log and found no references to either of the sys files in question. No resolution.

System Restore only had one restore point, and it was from 2 days ago. Problem was already noticed by then. I suspect that it's been this way since I purchased the laptop a couple of months ago anyway, but if there had been a restore point back at the very beginning, I'd have tried that.

I don't know much about digital signing of drivers. I've seen in a couple of threads that I might be able to sign the drivers myself, ... Read more

Answer:Windows mouse driver files not digitally signed

Mike

Obviously many more problems than just the mouse driver.

You can use earlier drivers (ie from vista, or even XP) if you install them in compatibility mode
[right click the installer>properties>compatibility>chose OS]

The other system problems need a repair install.

Hello, I have Windows 10 (64 bit) and all the latest Windows + Lenovo updates. The SSD's are Samsung 850 EVO (system) and Samsung 840 EVO (data). Since a few weeks ago, I started seeing a pop-up message, whenever I boot the computer. It says that "A digitaly signed driver is required". Also, the Samsung Magician software reports, that AHCI Mode is deactivated and SATA Interface is N/A. Does that mean that my system is not running on full performance? And is there are solution for these issues? Thank you!

My harddrive went out and I put a new one in. It was a brand new drive and I loaded Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit from my laptop's recovery disk that came with the inital purchase. When I started to add the drivers 2 of them came up as unable to verify the signatures. Most importantly the driver for my Wifi adapter, which is an Intel Wifi Link 1000 BGN says this. Windows refuses to run it in that state. So I have no internet and it says that the adapter is not installed or is disabled. When I go into the Device Manager the adapter is there with a yellow "!" and has an error code 52 (for unsigned driver). It shows installed and enabled though

I installed the driver from the intial driver disc and it says unsigned, I was able to get the latest driver from Intel's website and that too says it can't verify the digital signature.

When I boot into the F8 screen and disable driver enforcement I am able to get online.

I'm not sure if this is related or not, but regardless of how I boot, Windows updater and troubleshooters do not work.

I'd appreciate any help.

This is more of a bug report rather than a question.

When installing the latest version of Message Analyzer 1.4 (Build 4.0.8110.0) on a clean installation of Windows 10 Pro (Build 14393.222), it shows an error saying 'A Digitally Signed Driver Is Required' Message Analyzer -- WFP Callout Driver.
I'm guessing maybe due to the new driver signing requirements in Windows 10 1607 Anniversary Update...

Hi,

This is my first post on these forums, so please excuse me if anything is wrong.

Details of the problem: I have a Sony VAIO laptop that runs Windows 7 Home Premium x64. I recently downloaded the same version from digital river that has SP1 included and installed it on my laptop. I installed the drivers that I had downloaded from sony's esupport site which went fine. After I rebooted and tried to install the rest of the drivers, I started getting the Code 52 error: Windows cannot verify the signature of this driver. I've seen that every driver can be installed immediately after the system has been booted the first time (after a clean install). Once rebooted, it starts giving the code 52 error. I can't install my iPhone drivers (through iTunes) or PS3 utilities because of this. I'm wondering what changes during the first reboot. I must also say that these very same drivers were used on the previous build of Win 7 HP that I was using except that it did not have SP1 integrated.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I know that the digital signature check can be disabled using bcdedit.exe but I want Windows 7 to work the way it should: it should stop me from using unsigned drivers while installing signed drivers correctly. Does any one have any clue to what's going on with my Win7 on my laptop?

Answer:Driver Digital Signature error when using signed drivers (Code 52)

Hi ajayav, Welcome to Sevenforums.

Boot into Advanced Boot Options and disable driver signing checking.

The Advanced Boot Options screen lets you start Windows in advanced troubleshooting modes. You can access the menu by turning on your computer and pressing the F8 key before Windows starts.

Disabling driver signature enforcement has helped a lot of users in fixing the issue.

You may also delete the USB "Upper Filter" & "Lower Filter" Entry and check if that helps.

Hi all,
I am wondering how do I digitally sign my driver so that it can be installed on a Win7 Ultimate SP1 in a VMWare virtual machine. I have used Visual Studio 2013 to sign my driver and cat files using a certificate I obtained from GlobalSign. Both of these
files passed the signtool check, but when trying to install in this virtual machine it generates an error code 52.

Only been here an hour and already on to my second problem, lol.

So my only other problem is one little hardware adapter that has 64bit drivers... but they're not signed.

Is a "Syba" Serial to USB Adapter (SY-USB-S)...

basically I need to use it so that my battey backup can talk with Windows and give reports on power spikes etc... as well as control the shutdown of windows when I'm not around if there's a power outage.

Now, it's not a huge deal as the battery backup will still work of course, but the extra features won't work until Windows can communicate with it. Unfortunatly the backup only as a serial connection (and my motherboad doesn't) so I'm forced to use the "Serial (RS232) to USB" adapter.

So I'm wondering a few things.

1) can I force Vista x64 to use the unsigned driver from the company?

2) can I trick Vista x64 into thinking the driver is signed? (or someone mod the drive to that it is signed by me?)

3) Anyone know of a signed driver from another company that will work with this item? I assume a few companies use the same chip inside the device. All it does is make a bridge from USB to serial so it's a pretty simply device as well.

4) Anyone know of another Serial to USB adapter that has singed drivers that I could purchase to replace the current one?

Thanks again for any advice or help,
TK.

Question: PeerBlock

PeerBLOCK
The current replacement of PeerGuardian 2 (any version).

The Current Developers Team is constantly working on the PeerBlock to make it Compatible and Applicable to Windows Vista and Windows 7 (both x86 and x64 = 32 bit and 64 bit modes).

Their latest Priority is to get the Signed Driver Certification.

Quote:
Want a Signed Driver?
Yeah, you know you want it... A signed driver... So you don't need to jump through any of the hoops necessary to get unsigned drivers (like what PeerBlock - and PeerGuardian 2 before it - require to run) to load under recent versions of Windows.

PeerBlock is a new version (aka a "fork") of the popular Peer Guardian 2 software. It blocks "known bad" computers from accessing yours, for example governments, corporate entities, and those flagged for anti-p2p activities. Peer Block maintains the functionality of the original Peer Guardian 2 program, but includes fixes for various issues that remain unaddressed in the latest (~2 year old) version of PG2.

PeerBlock supports Windows XP, Vista, and Win7 - and maybe Windows 2000 too, though nobody's been testing that - in both 32- and 64-bit flavors.

Does anyone use PeerBlock? http://www.peerblock.com/ I was looking into Peerguardian 2 however it seems it is still very buggy, just wondering if anyone had any experience with PeerBlock?

Answer:Anyone use PeerBlock?

I would definitely recommend OpenDNS. Basically you just set your router's DNS server address to OpenDNS. Create an account and input your IP (it tells you what it is). If your on a dynamic IP, it gives you some software that runs on a computer on your network and it updates OpenDNS when your IP changes. From the OpenDNS account page you can create a custom filter that blocks a wide range of sites, Adware/Advertising sites happens to be on of the categories. Of course other sites like Pornography, Hate sites, etc., can be blocked as well. They also have generic low, medium, and high ratings that are predefined categories. You can also automatically white list or black list a website.

Everything I described is part of OpenDNS's free package.

Question: PeerBlock

Incase you don't what PeerBlock is, it is a program that is used to block IP Addresses from accessing your computer. I recently read a thread about it. Some people were saying it's stupid because the people and just download PeerBlock themselves and see if they are blocked and if they are, change their IP Address.

I mainly use it because it blocks against IP Addresses that are known to have spyware on them. So what are your thoughts? I think I have also noticed some instability from my wireless adapter. Weather it's from PeerBlock or the application that my wireless adapter uses is still unclear. Anyone have any problems like this?

Answer:PeerBlock

If you are using it for P2P "protection" it's a complete waste of time, you will only block legitimate users, while anti-piracy groups certainly have the resources to change their IP at will. If you have access to the list, they certainly do too. As for blocking malware sites, well, a little common sense goes a long way, far better than any ip blocker can go.

Hi,

I have some knowledge in this area but not enough. On start up of my PC Peerblock starts and blocks certain IPs before I have even done anything. Others are blocked once I am surfing the net.

Now there are a range of blocked IPs titled with EI du Pont de Nemours and Co, Xerox Corporation and Amazon Technologies Inc. I am fairly convinced after research that these are harmless and google and firefox related.

However, before opening anything on my PC Peerblock blocks another IP that I am a little concerned about, they are: -
W32.Downadup.Conficker - ConflickerUpdate.com - 216.239.36.21:80 AND
W32.Downadup.Conficker - ConflickerUpdate.info - 216.239.34.21:80

On researching these they seemed to be related to the conficker worm but after running AV and analysis tools I cant find anything and they also are IPs referenced and blocked by Ransomware Tracker.

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I don't want to debate the merits (or lack thereof) of using an IP blocking app in this thread.

I just wanted to let those who like and use (or used to use) Peerguardian know that development has started up again and that there now is a new version of the program available (free), which is called "Peerblock."

Peerblock is based on the original PG code and Peerblock looks just like Peerguardian (and uses the same lists), except it is being actively developed (with frequent application updates) and, most importantly, it has signed drivers. It is completely compatible with W7 x64 without any workarounds required. In short, for those who like Peerguardian, this is a long overdue dream come true.

Check it out here.

(Btw, the latest interim release is completely stable on my W7 x64 rig.)

Hey guys, I wanna know if PeerBlock is really needed when you're using P2P softwares like uTorrent. Does it slow down torrent download? Do I still need to use it even I'm using VPN?

Answer:Is it needed to have PeerBlock?

many torrents include suspicious IPs (some spying ones from entertainment industries, others from gov agencies and finally some from warez/hackers); peerblock is good if you don't feel major download slowdown but you will surely loose some IPs so maybe less seeders.

It seems that NetBuAd is constantly trying to connect to my computer at least 30 times a minute and usually more.
There are also a lot of other IP addresses that it is blocking as well.
It would be nice if someone could help me look into this to try and stop it from happening if it is possible.

I have run a scan from SuperAntiSpyware and cleaned the system and I have also done a full scan with MicroSoft Security Essentials which never turned anything up.

I hope someone can help em get to the bottom of this annoying problem.

Answer:PeerBlock as an ad blocker--your view?

PeerBlock blocks access to and from non-secure IP addresses of associations, government, advertising servers and with spyware or adware, using an updateable list.
I remember the main use of this tool was in the P2P circuit, but certainly nothing prevents you to use it to block advertising.
The fact is that it doesn't seem up to date for years and also I don't know if the IP lists are updated at least with a certain frequency.

I've been searching, but haven't found this yet. Usually I'm good at "googling" things, but this has stumped me so far.

Today's routers are more than powerful enough - could someone tell me which router firmwares will load "block lists" for blocking "bad" IP ranges? (Want to block IPs of known: malware/spyware sources, SPAM senders, "bot net" bots, anti P2P, etc.).

Surely there must be some routers/firmwares which support this by now?

I know that most router's firmware GUIs ("web interface") will have a page where you can switch between whitelist or blacklist and manually add IPs, but if you could at least load them from a file, or specify a host to download them from, that would basically do what's needed to have something like a "Peerblock" shield protecting your whole LAN at the router.

Answer:Something like Peerblock that runs ON your router...

Depends on what router you are trying to flash. DD-WRT may have that function on some of their firmwares(not sure as I do not follow development of DD-WRT).

Your best bet would to setup something like a PFSense box or buy Ubiquiti EdgeRouter that gives you a lot more functionality then just a flashed consumer router.

I'm in the middle of downloading a fairly large modpack for a game (mod does not include any official DLC, it's all free user-created content), and I noticed "botnet on Smart Broadband" come up a few times. i looked up the IP (121.54.44.92), and saw it reported several times on abuseipdb.com, 1 of the reports claiming it hijacked his facebook account. I also found a string of a few "botnet on Nforce" and "botnet on VimpelCom Beeline" in a row, one of the IP's being 109.201.152.244 for nforce and 217.118.81.20 for beeline. im aware that peerblock does not block all IP's, and i don't know if I was accessed or not by a connection slipping under Peerblock's radar? Am i infected, and what steps should I take? also i've been seeing several Ap2p's, I'm not concerned about those, but should I be?

I noticed today that Peerblock is blocking a large amount of connections from a few different IPs listed as botnets. Here's the names of the connections being blocked:

botnet on MTN Rwandacell
botnet on Smart Broadband
ap2p on MTN RwandaCell
botnet on Planet Ltd

As far as I can tell, this all started tonight (the 19th), at around 11:20pm, shortly after I started a torrent for the BF2 mod "Project Reality". I ran a quickscan through Malwarebytes, and another through MSE, both came up with nothing, I'm now running a full scan through Malwarebytes. I'm running Windows 7 64bit.

New in version 1.2:

Port Allow List - The new "Port Settings" tab allows you to unblock ports (incoming and/or outgoing). This means that PeerBlock will not filter any connections from/to those ports. This can for example be used if you're running PeerBlock on a public FTP server, or if you want to ensure that outgoing SMTP mail communications are never blocked. Many thanks to night_stalker_z for his hard work on this feature!

First-run Update Message - When you first run PeerBlock after upgrading, you will see a notice explaining why lists are only updating once per week. Hopefully this will help to alleviate people's confusion about this.

Better Weekly List-Updating - We've made some improvements that should help ensure that free users continue to get their free weekly list-updates.

I-Blocklist Subscription Settings - To make it easier for you to configure PeerBlock to use an I-Blocklist Subscription, new I-Blocklist Username/PIN fields have been added to the bottom of the "Settings 1" tab.

While not familiar with peerblock I am sure you can exempt opera. There should be a white list of safe sites. Are you absolutely sure it is peer block? Are there any other symptoms?

I was wondering why Peerblock 1.0+ (r484) - Beta Release - Bogon list is blocking a LAN IP address.

The entry in Peerblock is:

Time 15:28:10 Range Bogon Source 0.0.0.0:68 Destination 255.255.255.255:67 Protocol UDP Action Blocked

From what I understand from the Peerblock Bogon list, the blocked connection should not occur (that's why Peerblock blocks the connection.) Based on my very limited networking knowledge, this doesn't seem to be a LAN broadcast, but maybe a multicast. If so what is being "casted" and why?

Hi everyone,

I installed windows 64 bit over the consumer preview.

I always install peerblock, usually without problem.

However, in windows 8; although it installs fine, it isn't autostarting. - I have to click on the shortcut to boot it - then it runs fine. (it's set to autoboot in the prog).

Is there a setting that I need to select for Win8 please, or don't the windows people want it to run properly?

Any help welcome please.

Many thanks.

Hiya peeps.

I've recently encountered a bit of a conundrum. I run peerblock pretty much permanently, and in the last 3 days, I've been blocking thousands of outgoing connections apparently bound for Nokia, Inc:

http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/8162/image1qh.jpg

The 'source' address is my local IP, no other machines on the network appear to be getting this. Destination checks out as Nokia's UK offices or somesuch, although the port used is apparently flagged 'red' as it's used by a Backdoor.

Before anyone mentions it, I've never installed Nokia software on my PC, owned a Nokia product, and this machine is off the wireless. I ran a Hiijack this scan after being prompted to by a friend, but couldn't make head or tail of it. Log's attached.

My AV and Spybot come clean, Firewall's not picked up anything (Running AVG Free and Zonealarm) Swapped to Kapersky 2010 shortly after this, which picked up a Trojan and removed it, but didn't seem to stop the traffic.

I'm really lost here. I can't trace the source of it, and the last thing I want to be doing at the moment is reformatting my PC. Anyone got any Ideas?

Answer:Peerblock blocking constant connection attempts to Nokia, Trojan?

Run "netstat -anb" and you may see which program is doing the connection.

hello guys i'm new here i see this websites many times when i was searching on Google so today i joined .

i have only one question i use avast internet security malwarebytes antimalware pro superantispyware pro and peerblock i am safe or i need anything else?

Answer:Security software (Avast IS + Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro + SAS Pro + Peerblock)

1. SuperAntiSpyware isn't needed as Malwarebytes is better overall.
2. Avast isn't that great, but malwarebytes will help you with that.
3. Peerblocks bad IPs from connecting to you.

It looks pretty good to me though.

Ran SuperAntiSpyware scan and it picked up a trojan with something along the lines of Name Thief. Had SuperAntiSpyware remove it. Put up PeerBlock to see if there was anything and there's strange networkings pinging me anywhere from hundreds of universities (from weird places to boot) to Atrivo.Hell. that has Hijackers Malware Network in the name source.

I rebooted after SuperAntiSpyware removed the trojan but I ran rougekiller and it still picked up when looked like the trojan still.

Because if you can't I sure as hell have found the exception.

It's that same annoying people app that I am having issues with on my phone, but on my laptop.

ASUS Book Flip TP200 running the most recent Windows ten build.

I'll just post the screenshot of what has happened.

How can I fix this? I don't know how it got signed in twice.

Answer:Can you be signed into an app twice?

Hello @Johninadelaide6,

Yes, you sure can sign in to an app with more than one Microsoft account (MSA).

You should be able to click/tap on the MSA you don't want, and click/tap on the "Delete account" option to remove it.

I use a Lumia 830 on release ring and most days it works fine. But once a week I usually have to restart it because Cortana, Xbox app, Groove and basically anything that uses my account will sign out and can't sign back in. No other device I have does this so I don't think it's the account. Anyone know the problem or a fix?
