Preferred Solution: Unable to find favicons for website

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Unable to find favicons for website

Hello easyapndey, and welcome to Seven Forums.

What browser is this for?

In Internet Explorer, the favicon.ico files are in the Temporary Internet Files folder. You'll need to scroll or search the folder to see them.

Internet Explorer Temporary Internet Files Settings

Hope this helps,

I put about ten shortcuts onto my desktop, such as ones for eBay, Google, Amazon, etc.; however, they all have Edge's standard blue icons. This makes the whole group appear as a monolithic bunch of icons that all look the same and not so easy to read. Is there a way to change these desktop icons to the various websites' favicons, making them easier to see/read/use?

I think that you can right-click a shortcut, then choose "Properties," then click on "Change Icon." However, from there, I'm stuck, because it offers me the option of browsing to the icon I want, but I don't know how to get to any favicon that I might want.

It's easy to find those websites' favicons, using Google images, and I can then save them onto my desktop, but I don't know how to get them from there onto their relevant shortcuts. I think there is a cache, called something like "shell32.icon" or whatever, which holds icons, but I'm not sure if that's anything I want to mess with, because I'm fully aware that messing with those kinds of files can lead to disastrous results, such as the computer freezing up, the 'blue screen of death,' etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use Firefox and I have made short cuts to web pages, using the drag and drop method and saved them to my desk top.

I visited the following page in this forum, but it shows the file path to where favicons are stored when Internet Explorer is used.

How to find path to favicon.ico w/ IE7?

What is the file path for the folder where favicons are stored, when Firefox is used to create them?

Thank you

Answer:Favicons: I Need To Find The File Path

There's no "cache" for Favicons. They are saved directly in the places.sqlite file, in your Profile folder, with your bookmarks and browser history.

Source: Bookmarks don't show all favicons

First go to Hidden Files and Folders - Show or Hide; You want to show, follow Option One, Steps one and two.

Then go to
Code:
C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
Click on your profile, it should look something like this: 6boqw0lk.default-120653523721 it will be the only folder below Profiles, click on it.
Scroll down until you see places.sqlite, click on it. A box will open asking you what program you would like to open this file with, notepad is acceptable.

Uncheck the box, click on OK. Wait for the file to open, mine is over 10MB, took a minute.
The majority of what you see will be in programming language, but you can see the links to your saved bookmarks.
There are also bookmarkbackups located at:
Code:
C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Your Profile\bookmarkbackups
and it will be a sub-folder in your profile.

It is more difficult to open because it is a JSONLZ4 file, but there is a third-party program from FileInfo.com that may work to open them: File Viewer Lite
I tried to scan it with VirusTotal, but the que was taking too long so here are the results from a day ago: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/5...49bb/analysis/

I have been running into some issues with my computer for a while and after trying several things I decided to run SFC scan. It claims to have found corrupt files it could not repair but when I followed Option 3 from SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker and opened the sfcdetails.txt file it shows everything as verify complete and no errors or corrupt files. I am attaching the sfcdetails.txt file as well as the cbslog.

First off, I just want to say that this is a fantastic site with a great, helpful community. It has helped me solve several computer related issues and has saved me lots of time.

Here goes my problem:

I've noticed that lately my desktop and my laptop are having issues going to any website ending in .com (google.com). The browser will sit there and load for a minute or 2, then it will say that it can't find the server. However, when I go to any website ending in .edu (i.e. uc.edu) the site comes up rather quickly as it should. I just noticed this in the last couple of days and I just recently installed Norton 360 on both. Could this be causing the issue?

Could it be my ISP? router? I don't really seem to notice this issue when I take my laptop on campus and use my college's internet. But I've only used it on campus once so far this quarter, I might have gotten lucky. It doesn't seem to have this problem all of the time as well. Sometimes if I reset my router it helps.... I'm a complete loss on this issue. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help in advance.

- Mike

Answer:Unable to find .com servers, but can find .edu just fine...

Hi Mike,

Your problem seems to be in your firewall settings.
Temporarily disabling your firewall, and testing, should show .com sites load without error.

As you are a student, it is possible that the Admin who set up your computer has place restrictions on your user account.
Therefore creating a new Administrator user account should fix those issues, but you may need to approach your computer technical staff at uni (?) and confirm with them first. ie you do not want to upset any user network settings made by your school for you.

I do not even know if "BUSINESS NOTEBOOK" is the board I should have chose. I thought I was asking about a laptop, but since that is not listed, maybe HP does not make laptops anymore...I am looking to buy a laptop (notebook?) from a person that is used, but she has never used it. I have a picture of the underneath it, with all the numbers listed & none of them are bringing up any results for your "items to ask about". I have been having a lot of problems with my machine - some of which have been posted here. All problems seem to have been resolved. I maintain a website for an Audubon Society. During my problems, I was unable to update this website. I can now upload files. The problem is I get the error "Cannot Find Website" when I attempt to view it on line. Other people can look at it - and my updated pages are there. I have not had problems loading any other pages. I have cleared my cashe, set the browser to check for new pages on every visit to the site. I have tried IE and Netscape. There is nothing fancy on my page. No Java scripts, not even style sheets. I have no hosts file. No restricted sites and security is set for medium low. The server specializes in Audubon Societies and bird related sites. There should be no reason for AOL to restrict it. This has been going on for nearly a week.

In the past, I have noticed that I might not be able to view the updated page in AOL, but the site would load. Usually, I could then open IE in a separate window and see the updated page.

It is really irritating not to be able to check my updates on line.

Any ideas????

Thanks,

Amy

I had just completed making a website and uploading to our host when I noticed that when I went to the website and checked the source codes there was a bunch of extra html that is not there before I uploaded it. I scanned my computer with Superantispyware (great program btw) and found some baddies. I am not sure if any of these could have infected my web pages. I also deleted all the pages from my host server. I scanned the pages on my computer and neither Avast or Super.. found anything, yet I am afraid to upload my pages again - since the code doesn't show up until after it is online (it is not in the source code when it is only on my computer). How can I make sure that I am not still infected without having to upload my site again to my server and put it online - when it doesn't show up until I do?P.S. My friend attempted to add my new site to Facebook, when it was online, and appearently started her virus scan - as it detected a virus.

Answer:How do people find my website?

Obviously you should lose the banners and ads, which I see by the tiny text at the foot of the page is your intention once the site is complete. The main image on your index page is grainy and could do with sharpening up.Hmmmmmm.Flash...Well, where to start ?You've done yourself no favours by using two things in tandem. The first is a dynamic myimpactengine ASP link to the main site content (not as search engine friendly as a standard static link) and your resulting content, when it loads, is Flash based which again will cause its own breed of search engine issues. On a personal note, I find music on websites intensely annoying, especially when its a short soundbyte that repeats endlessly. The ability to switch the music off (which you have provided though it's not terribly obvious) is less important than just not loading your visitors connection with music to begin with. The text scrolling on the pages in the main Flash content is odd too - your 'What we offer' page needs no scrolling, yet it has scrollbars. I scrolled to see what I was missing to find nothing. Finally, your contact form needs some serious work. Forget about using a Bravenet form and create your own using one of the many form mail scripts available for free. How to find out if the website you are on is real?

Hi, I was wondering, how do you make sure the website you visit has realiable info. There are so many websites these days on internet that has fake info. such as the world is flat or humans can live forever. I am just wondering, how do you know if the website you are visiting is realiable. Help will be appreciated. Thank You.

Answer:How to find out if the website you are on is real?

There is no real way to know, except double check all the info they have. I like to judge sites by their cover...meaning if the site looks nice and professional I am more apt to believe them. There are sites with ads everywhere, you can't find what you want and they are constantly trying to sell something. Those are the sites I find questionable.

The problem is, I can go make an aesthetically pleasing site (aesthetically pleasing = "good looking" for all those who don't understand, just working on my vocabulary) and say that clouds are made of marshmallows. There is just no way to know for certain unless you check lots of places and they all say the same thing...by the way I wish the clouds were made of marshmallows, but sadly they are not.

Hi there, I am a novice at the web scene, I built my own website on Wordpress platform and it has been up for a few months, however, for the past week it has been acting... odd. On a rare occasion, at least once per day of visiting my website, something seems to be taking control and forwarding to another site. I am pretty sure it's within my website, as I have had a friend on a PC using AVG show me a screenshot of a warning he got. I am on a Mac and while I don't get warnings, this redirecting behavior takes place. I'm not sure if this is the right area to post this concern and I don't want to post my website right off the bat because I want to make sure no one gets a virus or anything. But please, any ideas on how to go about finding the problem and fixing it would be greatly appreciated!

If anyone wants the URL of the site to check it out (although, like I said, it only happens occasionally so it's tough to replicate), please just let me know.
Edit: I found out the issue, a mod can close this.

This was the solution to my problem: http://markmaunder.com/2011/zero-day-vulnerability-in-many-wordpress-themes/

There's a forum website that I've always gone to without any problem. I know it's up and operational because I get instant emails when there are posts there in threads that I've subscribed to and a friend confirmed that he can log in there without any problem. Suddenly, though, my IE can't get me there while it's completely trouble-free in every other respect. I downloaded Firefox 3.5 and it, too, can not get to that particular website. So, it appears that the problem lies somewhere within my computer and not with the search engines or the specific website that I'm attempting to reach. Answer:Firefox cannot find website

If you have a slow connection or it's at a very busy time of day with heavy network traffic, the delay can sometimes cause that.

Make sure you are using the latest version of Firefox (v9.0.1) as significant improvements have been made to it's speed & performance since versions 7 & 8.

Question: Favicons

When I switch my browser from Firefox back to Internet Explorer 6, all the special URL icons (favicons) in my Favorites revert back to the default blue lowercase "e." Is there any way to avoid this reversion?
Also, I just downloaded Favicon Picker 2.5 as a Firefox Extension but I don't know how to use it. Any suggestions?

Answer:Favicons

If I remember rightly (assuming you have favicon picker installed) you right click on the bookmark and select properties and then you can browse and select the icons.

I can't remember though whether you have to set anything up from the extension manager. Go - Tools > Extensions > find favicon picker in list and click on it, if it greys out there is nothing to set up, otherwise select options and set your preferences.

Question: Favicons

I've used Drmwvr to install a head tags link to a .ico (which I got from some website using my logo) in my images folder. It does not appear! This is my header and the code D8 added: !DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "click here"> html xmlns="click here"> head> meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> title>FOCUS Nursery School at Wareham /title> link href="../images/favicon.ico" rel="shortcut icon" /> link rel="stylesheet" href="css/2col_leftNav.css" type="text/css" /> script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> /script> /head> body>Is this correct?

Answer:Favicons

Sometimes it works by just putting the favicon.ico in the root directory of the website. No need to reference it in the code as a lot of the web browsers look for it automatically.Alternatively, this is the code from mine:-<LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="click here">Giving it a definitive reference address may solve the problem.RegardsFitshase

Question: Favicons

Why is it they work sometimes and don't other?Or am I missing something (quite likely :-)

Answer:Favicons

That has become one of those mysteries. I don't think anyone, least of all MS, knows why IE often fails to pick up favicons. They work quite reliably with other browsers.

Question: Favicons

Many of the Favorites for Internet Explorer list and/or Bookmarks list for Firefox have tiny little 16X16 icons alongside their names. I have several that have only the generic folded page corner icon however.
Can you design a replacement icon and have it show up in the listing? If so, how do you manage it?
I have Googled and find several tutors for designing and placing an icon in/on your own website page but none for simply replacing the icon on the favorites/bookmarks listing.

Answer:Favicons

Bought this laptop recently and I'm going through the steps to install windows 10 on it. However I couldn't find its drivers on HP support website.  I got this: Unable to access the system at this timeWe?re sorry, but an error has occurred and we are temporarily unable to access the system you are looking for at this time. Please check back shortly. Could someone please point me in a direction. Thank you in advance.

Hi, Welcome to the HP Support forum. Please check back shortly."  , I suggest you try again after some hours.  If you still continue to get errors tomorrow, please post again and let me know.  Additional (newer) method and way of updating/installing drivers in Windows 10 is via the means of Windows Update and Device Manager. Hello and welcome to Techspot.

What ISP do you use?

If it happens to be NTL, they have been having a few problems of late. I have had exactly the same problems for a few days, intermittently.

If you don`t use NTL. I suggest you contact your isp and see if they`ve been having any problems.

Is it possible to write a 'find & replace' instruction to make an identical substitution on every page of a website? Some time ago, excessive amounts of spam forced me to change the e-mail address which I had helpfully/naively/stupidly put on each page of the website in a 'mailto' link. Not knowing of any other way to fix things (I still don't, hence this post) I flogged my way through all 300+ pages, manually substituting a different (and 'munged') address for the former plain-language one, and also e-mailed everyone in my Address Book to tell them of the new address. The whole exercise was a chore I am not anxious to repeat ? although it paid off, and I remained totally spam-free for just over a year.Recently, however, I've started to get spam once again. It all arrives at the address that I munged so carefully (not carefully enough perhaps?) and it all appears to have been written by a succession of people with improbable surnames, a cheap translation dictionary apiece, and no knowledge of the English language whatever. Please don't misunderstand me. I mean it's very nice of Ranald Sdryt to send me an e-mail about something unspecified which is "Low worth but widely alternative. Can be trusted about your wellness" and I'm certain that Paddy Pscup has my best interests at heart when he/she writes: "Sole our firm may propose you different software just at a small damage." If you are unfamiliar with doing a DNS lookup directly from your system you can use a Web-based tool.

Enter the host you wish to find the IP for, in this case forums.relicnews.com, in box 1 under DNS lookup, leave everything else as default, and click on the button. You should see the result of 216.234.246.251.

Dear community, I want to buy a Y50 gaming laptop. I looked it up in amazon uk and I found a Lenovo Y50 with i7-4720HQ, GTX 960M and 1 TB hdd + 8 GB ssd. Hi gebbeth, I own a Y50-70 2013 model, do not buy this computer. It is however an excellent idea for a computer, and at a fair price. Mine was 4 months old before I mailed it to the repair center last tuesday. Read through the post on this forum and i'm sure you will come to the same conclusion. Switch to MSI or another brand before you waste your money. The 2015 Y50-70 is still new to the market, so all of the defects have not yet been identified. But if you look around you will see that people are having issues with the newer model also.

Answer:Getting Search Engines to find my Website

Search engines send out programs that 'crawl' the internet, examine websites and rank them in their database. The higher the ranking the better! Some key points to think about:- add 'meta tag' keywords within the <head> tags of your code. These should list key words and phrases (like cabins, holidays, fishing etc)- on your Home page include some copy text that includes key words and phrases and repeats them as often as possible- get as many external sites (like online directories) to link to your site as you can- ensure that their are hypertext links from evry page in your site to every other. If you use a java script menu (that does not use HTML) include <noscript> tags that generate a hypertext links for those visitors whose browsers are not java enabled. This allows the search engines to follow your site right through all pages- be patient!SEO is a big subject and no doubt others will follow this with more advice.

The solution I found out was to delete the offending Favicon in internet options and reload when going back to the site.
However I now have about four or five Favicons that just wont delete from internet options. I have tried to delete them by selecting individually and together and deleting, by deleting all internet files and by telling my anti virus software to delete all internet files. These Favicons always remain.
Could somebody please tell me know how I can delete these favicon files with out taking a hammer to them!!:hammer

On IE and FF it has changed straight away. I tried clearing the cache on Chrome with no joy. Any ideas what this could be?Using chrome 6.0.472.63Thanks in advance

Answer:Favicons and Chrome

Funny, I've heard of this issue a lot with Firefox, but not with Chrome.Anyway, try these in this order:1. Delete any bookmarks in Chrome to the site.2. Clear your browsing and download history.3. Restart Chrome.4. Visited the site and bookmarked it again.Another solution I just found involved deleting the file that stores those icons for Chrome, forcing Chrome to create it again with updated icons, but this will delete ALL favicons, not just your site's.Anyway, hope that helps out a bit, Mulreay. Let us know how you get on.EDITI assume this site you're referring to is that Space and Science site in your signature (which I'm looking forward to digging through eventually). I'm attaching the favicon as I see it now.[recovering disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]

Or
You may have to try deleting one and adding again to see what happens

I'm running a chromium 21.x snap shot. Every time I try to update to one of the new 22.x snap shots, I lose all favicons. Seems to be a recurring problem with chrome browser. The snap shots have been 22.x for awhile now. I'm surprised nobody has picked up on this issue.

Even running Bookmark Sentry to manually load all my bookmarks to check they exist does not refresh the favicons. While the extension is running I can see favicons showing up in the bookmarks. But as soon as I close the browser and open it again, they are all gone.

Really weird.

I did notice a mention of a chrome extension named Bookmarks Favicon Fixer. But all searches end up pointing to dead links.

edit: I filed it as an issue on chromium bug tracker. See what happens.

Answer:chromium 22.x no favicons

What'd you expect? It's obviously a beta/alpha build, which means that every build might also have a regression over the previous. You might want to make things easy on you by just going for stability and leaving the newest test builds alone.

It's also very likely that this doesn't occur on every system running that 22.x build. You did the right thing by filing a bug report. The next build might not contain this bug, thanks to you!

Well I just got my new computer up and running, and transfered over all my old favorites and whatnot, but now none of the favicons show up in my bookmarks.

Even if I add new bookmarks that I know have favicons they dont show up..and they always worked on my old comp and to my knowledge I haven't changed anything.

The only thing different I can think of is I run Adblock Plus on my new comp, and i just used the regular Adblock on my old comp.

Any suggestions to get them back??

Answer:Favicons gone in Firefox..

Adblock Plus doesn't screw with favicons.

Try deleting the affected bookmarks, clearing your cache, then re-bookmarking the pages in question. I had a similar problem once, and that fixed it.

Hi, I just found this out:

You can easily make a shortcut to a website in Vista (maybe also in XP, I'm not sure) .
Just right-click on the desktop and click add shortcut.
Now the actual tip: You can make a folder 'icons' and save the favicon.ico from the website you're linking to in that folder and use that as a custom icon for the shortcut...
That way the icons really make sense for the website they link to.

That's all.

Answer:Tip: IE shortcuts with favicons

Yes, can save some time.

The problem......

I have a lot of bookmarks in IE11 and certain Favicons persistently give trouble and do not display. This forum is one of them I have another 3 or 4 that are troublesome too although the majority are OK.

I googled and searched on this subject and have not come up with a workable answer or explanation as to how Favicons are handled.

This forums Favicon fails to show no matter what I do. The other problem ones seems to appear randomly when they feel like it but once those particular ones are displaying correctly, they remain correct until a disk and browser clean deletes them again. All the remaining Favicons will repopulate instantly when that particular bookmark folder is opened. Just like photo thumbnails in a folder. So there must be a stored cache of the images somewhere. If so then it may be possible to delete it and let it rebuild when the sites are visited.

So a question. Is there a store of the Favicon images somewhere ? If there is I haven't found it... and I've googled and tried the usual stuff and unhidden operating files and looked in App Data and Roaming and Local folders. There's nothing there.

I even tried resetting IE11 to defaults and clearing all settings as a test and then visiting this site and putting it as a fresh favourite. No Favicon.

Answer:Favicons. How and where are they stored ? How to fix ?

Check temporary internet files.

Opera is different but the same in browsing history.

Try deleting browser history & visit a site.
IE should reload the favicon.

I find favicons childish and annoying - is this just me?The biggest problem is that the 'wrong' ones more often display than the actual one that's supposed to be showing for the particular website.BBC favicon for an ebay page anyone ?If anyone knows a way of disabling these I'd be grateful. I've done a google search on this and they're easy to disable for Firefox.

Answer:Can I disable favicons in IE7?

The simple answer to your question is No - but have a read of this click here

Hi!

I have a little bit searched using Google and it seems that this is a Russian model so you can find the specifications on the Toshiba Russian page:

Hello everyone!

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300D-13X

But on the Toshiba support website, If I enter its serial nr then it doesent get recognised. If I insted use the little software that are suppose to identify you computer model, that too fails to recognise my model. And last I tried to manually enter my model. I choose Satellite, L300D and then the closest I can choose is L300D-13J, but mine is L300D-13X, Should I choose the L300D-13J anyway?

Anyone who recognise this problem, I would be most greatful

Best regards.

Answer:Satellite L300D-13X - Can't find it on the Toshiba website

Hi Qwerty,

I don?t know what you did wrong but I can find your notebook model on the Toshiba website. As far as I know it belongs to the PSLC0E series so follow this:

http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
Notebook > Satellite > Satellite L Series > Satellite L300D series > PSLC0E

Now you can choose the operating system that you have and download all updates! :)

I dont know why, but every now and then I get this message when I try to access the website I look after.
It says OOPS! Internet explorer could not find (the web address)

I contacted my ISP and the web host when it first happened, and both said they had no problem with it. My webhost gave me some sites, such as proxy servers to try, and sure enough the website was up. Just I couldnt access it.
It drives me crazy. I cant go in and update the site as it Internet explorer for some reason doesnt find it.
Yet in a day or so, it usually comes right.
I have cleared the cache, the temporary internet files, deleted the cookies and the browser history. I have turned off Norton and none of that made any difference.
I ensured ssl 2 and ssl3 were checked.
It only does it with the website I am monitoring.

Any ideas please??

Answer:OOPS! Internet Explorer could not find my website

I Just fixed it, I saw this answer on another site

Go into IE Tools, click internet options, click advanced, click on Restore advanced settings and also on reset.
You then have to close IE and open it again.
when the Welcome to IE 8 box opens, I clicked cancel and did not choose any of its options. Now I can access it again. YAY.

Hope this helps someone else.

Hi,

I just did a quik look at uk Toshiba drivers for Qosmio X300 and they seem to be all there. I think those drivers should be suitable for your laptop regardless of the language used.

I used a template from "themeforest" but i changed it a lot and for some reason now it's loading very very very slow (some times 5-10 minutes) and some times it loads fast, and i tried all kine of stuff (moving the site to another domain, loading it in different browsers, disabling different plugins and more...) and i can't find the problem.
Please help me, this is the site: The Vox
(Again some times it loads fast so please try a few times if it's not loading slowly the first time...)
Thanks.

Answer:My website is loading amazingly slow and i can't find why!

There are a number of potential problems on your site, but by far the worst is your DNS lookup and response time which exceeds 2 seconds. That alone accounted for about 20% of the page loading time in my test, which came in at 10.985 seconds.
You're not fully taking advantage of browser caching to any degree and many of your images and other components are not compressed.
78.8% of the requests for your home page are image requests, but they take up 91.2% of the content loading to the browser.
So clearly talk to whoever controls your name servers to get the response time sorted out and seriously attack your images and make them more web friendly.
Your background image is far too large (796.8KB), although in your defence, it is loading after the main content which is good. But never-the - less, it takes a further 2.689 seconds to load (on top of the nearly 11 seconds), making over 13 seconds to absolute completion.
Finally, move all all your script loads to the bottom of the page.
