"Failed-Virus scan failed" error when making downloads on chrome

Question: "Failed-Virus scan failed" error when making downloads on chrome

I have actually been getting this error for the past month, at least since March 29th. I've made several attempts to work around it but to no avail. It appears that there is an error with the other browsers as well. I have searched for solutions for this for several weeks, none of which fit my problem. I uninstalled my clamwin antivirus in favor of Windows Security Essentials, though, most people have fixed this problem by messing with AVG? I don't think I have AVG on my computer?

Anyway, if someone knows how to solve this problem please let me know, I'm willing to try anything.

Preferred Solution: "Failed-Virus scan failed" error when making downloads on chrome

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: "Failed-Virus scan failed" error when making downloads on chrome

Let's see what Anti-virus is installed ....

Download CKScanner from here http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/CKScanner.exe
Save it to your desktop. <=== IMPORTANT
Doubleclick CKScanner.exe and click Search For Files.
After a very short time, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click "Save List To File".
A message box will verify that the file is saved.
Double-click the CKFiles.txt icon on your desktop and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.

While attempting to download an update for SlimCleaner using Chrome, on a little used Win7 Toshiba i5 laptop, I received a "Virus Scan Failed" message and no update.
I tried:
* downloading other files -- same "Virus Scan Failed" message & no files
* using IE & Firefox -- same results, except each browser uses different verbage
* totally disabling my AVG virus program -- no dice, same message, same results
* I've reviewed any thing that could possibly block DLs in Win7's "Advanced" tab in "Internet Security" & don't see any stumbling blocks
* "Windows Attachment Manager" doesn't offer any help either
Can anyone please tell me why Win7 has stopped all downloads, when for the past year, I've not had any DL issues?
Thank you!

Answer:"Virus Scan Failed" Message

Hi,
Your question does not apper to be related to Righyts Management Services (RMS) technology and would be more appropriate to ask in one of the Windows 7 user forums.

I did not suspect that this was a virus.  But while Google-ing for a solution I came across a post here that resoved the issue. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/511425/virus-scan-failed-in-chrome/

Based on Chrome support forums suggestions:
1. Even though IE and FireFox can download files I have tried to disable the scanning of download.  via a registry change under MS\policy key.
2. Disable Anti-virus
3. Renaming AVG8.dlls and rebooting.
4. Running Malware AntiBytes
5. Uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome.

My futile attempts to clean the machine:
1. I have tried to disable any toolbars (AVGSafeSearch)
2. Uninstall all AntiVirus appliactions.  I found traces of AVG8, AVG9, Advast, and AVG2104.
3. When that failed I loaded MS Security Essentials
4.  Check for multiple firewalls running
5. Installed new copies of IE and Chrome
6. Ran windows update, just to be up to date.
7. Ran SFC /Scannow
8. Ran SuperAntiSpyware
9. Ran Spybot S&D
10. Ran TDSSLiller
11. Ran HitManPro 3.7

The registry has strange random numeric entries that I believe came from a virus.  I am in over my head and need the help of a professional volunteer.

I did not suspect that this was a virus.  But while Google-ing for a solution I came across a post here that resolved the issue. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/511425/virus-scan-failed-in-chrome/

Nasdaq in thread http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/541399/chrome-reports-virus-scan-failed-on-all-downloads-ie-works-firefox-works helped me remove all the viruses and malware, but I still can’t download with Chrome with the virus scanning turned on.  Nasdaq also believes that there is a problem with ‘Security Center” because FSS.exe run as Administrator cannot report on multiple security features.  The last FSS.log will be posted shortly.

Is it possible to get Chrome to download and scan these downloads?  Or will I need to reimage this machine?

Answer:Chrome reports Virus Scan Failed on all downloads, IE works FireFox Works

The fact that Internet Explorer and Firefox aren't exhibiting this problems makes me suspicious of Google Chrome being corrupt.

I would try uninstalling Chrome in the Control panel under Programs and Features.

I would then type regedit in the Search programs and files box and press Enter.

When the registry opens click on Edit and then click on Find.

In the find search box type Chrome and then click on Find next.

This should show up as highlighted in blue, right click on this and choose delete.

Do the same with Google Chrome.

Now download Chrome and install it and see if the problem still persists.

Warning:  Do not make any other changes other than those I've suggested.  A wrong change in the registry can result in your computer being unresponsive.

Edit:  I will not download anything to my computer unless I know exactly what it contains.

I keep getting this error when trying to do an online restore, "Failed to initialize reporter: Cannot open database <DBName> requested by the login. Login Failed."  What can I do to resolve this issue?  We are running Management Console 3.0 Version 6.3 (Build 9600).
Recovery Manager for Active Directory

Thanks.

Answer:Dell Recovery Manager Error "Failed to initialize reporter: Cannot open database <DBName> requested by the login. Login Failed"

We have discovered, that if we uncheck the Generate reports while trying to run the online restore, that it will work. We are unsure yet what exactly is causing the issue, but unchecking Generate Report allows us to move forward and complete the process.

Hope this query is in the right section -tried to use my LDS 1881 England Census CDs last night - but having problems with the Viewer.

I have V4 which up to now has worked perfectly - tried to re-install it
and I keep getting "Failed to extract file "Dll_ini" from binary table"
error message.

BUT no problems on my laptap which has the Viewer installed from the
same CD.

Have had a few problems with computer of late - it was in the workshop
3 weeks ago because of some corrupt Windows files - could that be the
problem?

Grateful for any advice, suggestions as to what to do!

I just resolved an issue I had with the wireless connectivity of my Acer notebook computer and now I am getting strange error messages. When I try (not every instance) to open device manager I will get the message "Failed to open empty document." From there I will occasionally get "Parser" messages that say "Value creation failed at line 843" or "line 422." I read what I could find about these messages and it points to MMC as the cause. How do I go about fixing this annoying problem if anyone knows?

Need a suggestion or two. I have no idea what got this hard drive but I got the "ntoskrnl.exe missing/corrupt" signal, replaced that. Now I get "boot.ini missing/corrupt" but when i run the /Rebuild it fails to scan.
I've looked at the files on the hard drive and can read/copy etc everything I try, but of course cannot see the damage to the core win functions. is there some other workaround that would restore a good boot.ini?

Reading Reddit when these popups started to occur and I was a bit confused, seeing how I didn't have Google Chrome installed and use Firefox, so I opened task manager and sure enough found some sort of malware with multiple processes running. I have read some other posts and have attached my FRST logs and I am running a MBAR cleanup directly after I post this. Appreciate the help in advance, thanks!

I have tried downloading a file that is around 7 GBs three times now. I am trying to save it to a 64 GB Thumbdrive that has about 14 GBs of free space, but for some reason Chrome has canceled the downloaded saying "Failed, Disk Full" even though I know for a fact that there is still 14 GBs free on my thumbdrive. Can anyone help me? I am running Windows 7 Pro. And the latest version of Chrome.

Mods, if you feel that this thread is more of a "Windows" issue, please feel free to move this thread.

Here last year I did my second build because I was having "boot" issues. Wasn't certain what exactly the problem was at the time. But something some how screwed up the boot sequence in my system, and where everything was pretty much "outdated." I just went ahead and did another build.

Though, since then I've been pondering around with the thought of using a SATA to IDE adapter so that I can retrieve what ever salvageable data I can from one of the two HDD's that was in my last build. So I finally broke down and ordered a couple different one's earlier this week.

Unfortunately, I've been running in to some problem(s) when I try to launch with the IDE in place.

Upon initial launching, the boot sequence seem to take some time longer than it normally does with out the IDE HDD in place. Though after a 15-20sec lapse I'll get an error screen displaying an windows error code of "0xc000000e" with a prompt message below stating "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible"

I searched all over online to see what that error code represents, only to get "pages after pages" of sites with each site telling me something different.

I have no intentions of using this as a third HDD in my system. I just want to retrieve select data from it.

I know there are a handful of threads with the above error message and code, but I have yet to see a thread with what was my reason for the error code. I wanted to pass on what I discovered and how I fixed it.

I started with a standard Windows 7 Pro install joined to a domain. This machine has restricted Internet access so I downloaded the ISO on another machine, burned it to media and ran the upgrade on the test machine from within Windows. The machine passed all of the checks and tests and reported no issues. It would get to the first "Installing" screen, display 0% and then almost immediately give me the pop-up "Something Happened: Install Failed"

I ran it as administrator, I did a Clean Boot, I uninstalled all of the AV/Malware/security type stuff. Nothing worked. I finally found the setuperr.log in C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther. Found several error lines and the code was always 80070005. I found a line where the installer had a problem copying install.esd. I cleared out the $Windows.~BT in case there was file corruption in the directory somewhere and tried again - no change. Finally, I decided to create a USB install media and viola! The install completed. And I used the same ISO to make the USB that I had used to make the DVD.

I've read a few other threads where people had problems with the ISO. So the moral of the story is if you need to use install media, use the USB installer.

Hi,

My fathers computer has got a virus I believe. When he tries to download anything he is getting the virus scan failed error in Chrome. From some research I think it's a Trojan virus. Not sure where to start so I have come for some help here.

Answer:Virus Scan Failed in Chrome

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding. Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one. If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem. Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me. Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed. Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean. My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.   You´ve attached the wrong file. Please post up dds.txt´s content. Also, do the following.  Scan with Gmer rootkit scannerPlease download Gmer from here by clicking on the "Download EXE" Button.Double click on the randomly named GMER.exe. Did you make the backup DVD?

You can make the ISO from exe.

Check this post by BillWindows.

Upgraded, but changed my mind (want clean install, help!)

Then boot from that to completely wipe your disk and reformat, make sure you have your key for when you start the installation. If you have a Windows Live account use that. I found a thread started by another user entitled: Failed to save System32 Popups Virus CANNOT access anything EVERYTHING is HIDDEN which is extremely similar to my situation with my laptop, but the thread didn't seem to have been resolved.

I am using Windows Vista on my laptop. I was just checking my email and deleting some email messages when everything suddenly closed out and many popups appeared saying: "Failed to save all the components for the file \\System32\\[various numbers]. The file is corrupted or unreadable. This error may be caused by a PC hardware problem." Then another popup "System Check" appeared saying that I need to scan my computer. All of my desktop icons are gone and the background is black.

Some other threads that I've looked through say that you have to access stuff on the start menu, like my computer or my documents. My laptop will let me click on the start menu, but there is nothing on it except for the Program Files.

I used my camera to take some pictures of the screen but I couldn't attach it to this thread. I really, really need my laptop to start working again, and I would appreciate any kind of help!

I have two issues, which I think are related. In the Device Manager, it shows under USB Controllers "Unknown device". "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

I tried updating the driver, but the driver was correct.

I tried disabling the device.

I uninstalled the device. Windows reinstalled it at next boot, but the problem reappeared.

There is no Imaging Devices in the Device Manager.

At the same time, my webcam failed to open. Message "Webcamera initialization failed."

I downloaded the correct webcam program from Toshiba, installed it, but same result.

This all started when I uninstalled and reinstalled Skype. I have tried uninstalling it again, but still no webcam.

The webcam is enabled in the BIOS.

I really do not want to reinstall Windows.

All help appreciated.

Answer:IE 10 and 11 error install failure ERROR: "Neutral package installation failed"

Hello!
Sorry for refresh this old question, but...
Finally i've got solution in my situation! =)
I have Windows 2008 Server R2 SP1.
When i tried to install IE10, i've got this error in CBS.log:
Failed to find file: amd64_microsoft-windows-scripting-vbscript_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.21238_none_a51187a7608a895d\vbscript.dll
Steps to correct this error:
1. Download this: "Security Update for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Edition (KB2706045)"
2. Don't try to install, it wouldn't =)
3. Extract all files:
AMD64-all-windows6.1-kb2706045-x64_ffc82084794531c27bd4a670408d2c4a4d038ad8.msu /extract:.
4. Run this:
dism.exe /online /add-package /packagepath:Windows6.1-KB2706045-x64.cab
5. Now you can try to install IE10.

P.S. I think with IE11 problem will be solve in this way too . =)

This WLM RSS feed error just started popping up when I access Win Live Mail in W7 Pro 32 bit.

This morning I turned on the computer as usual, opened up some red bull, waiting for Windows to initialize. When it was done, I started my daily routine of turning on Teamspeak, IRC, MSN Messenger and X-Fire. First two programs worked as they should've did, but when I opened Messenger, it gave me a '0xc0000022 failed to initialize' error. I just said to myself, oh well, I'll just reinstall the damn thing and go on X-Fire first, but alas, same error, all of the sudden.

That's when I got... slightly irritated. Firefox still worked, luckily, so I went on google and filled in the error number (0xc0000022). It gave me multiple hits, all indicating to some kind of security error, or something. I tried following the instructions on some sites, to no avail Microsoft's search didn't help me either.

Then it occured to me it could be spyware, but both AdAware AND Spybot wouldn't load :/

This is the point were I got... irritated to no end. All my Games worked fine, just most apps didnt, and all of them are pretty much legal or freeware too.

Basic list of programs that don't work anymore, and there ARE more;

MSN Messenger (7.5)
X-Fire Latest version
Adaware
Spybot
Nero SmartStart
Those are the ones I checked, so there could be even more.

I've installed a fresh install of Windows XP, and the problem isn't present there, I just want to stay on this install though, since there are so many settings and registries that need to be ... Read more

I use Windows XP. I installed and ran the Avast grime fighter and then found two of my programs - one for tax preparation and one for backing up to an external hard drive - won't "open". Instead, I get the error message "failed to create empty document". I uninstalled the programs then reinstalled them, but no change - I still get the message. I saw, by googling the message, that it may have something to do with a windows registry file, but I really don't understand what that is or how to get to it or how to fix it. I contacted the Avast folks and they said they could put me in touch with their microsoft folks for $180! I am at a loss as to what I should do. Please can anyone help me figure out what to do to get these programs to run? I really need the tax program especially. Thank you.

Hi. I have had some problems recently with my PC, and the latest is that my sound doesn't work. I have Realtek HD Audio.

I can still see my speakers under the Sound list in Control Panel, and they say they work. All of my drivers are up to date and say they work.

I have tried many things, some of which where disabling all sound effects under enhancements, reinstalling all the drivers, and restarting the Windows Audio.

Also when under Speaker Properties and in the advanced tab when i press test i get an error message that says failed to play test tone.
Please Help! i have spent many days trying to find out how to fix this, and i need sound. Thanks

Answer:Sound Won't Work "Error failed to play test tone"

The first thing you need to do is make sure that you have a Realtek card.

Download a program such as Speccy: Speccy - Download

Once you've confirmed your sound card, download the latest drivers straight from the Realtek website.

In the case of HD Audio drivers:
Realtek

Now uninstall your old drivers using the Device Manager.

Once your old drivers are uninstalled, you'll need to install the new ones.

If your sound card still isn't working after confirming the make and model and installing the correct drivers you likely have a problem with the card itself. If you have an independent sound card you could try using the onboard sound instead, however Realtek is usually the onboard sound so I'm guessing that's your only option.

If you were planning on upgrading your sound from Realtek anyway, you could buy an independent card from a company like Creative or HT OMEGA. You can find good cards such as the X-FI and the OMEGA Striker for about $60 at Newegg.com

If you don't want to replace the card, you should probably exchange your motherboard for a new one after you've exhausted all of the software options and tested your speakers on a secondary source to make certain they're working properly.

Dear Tech Support Forum Staff and or Members,

Since my original thread: http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/concerned-about-a-delayed-write-failed-error-673492.html
is now a little old, I don't want to run the risk of bumping it unnecessarily. Since the original posting of this thread, my computer has had at least 3 more Delayed Write Failed errors, and I'm starting to wonder why. I know that people had mentioned possible problems with loose cords, or maybe even my power supply, but I don't know how to go about looking for "which cords are which". Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

The next time you get the error msg, look at the details.

I forget exactly how, but you get to a dialog with a description and data listed in a lower pane. On that dialog is an icon with a paper-page. Clicking the icon will copy all the data to the Clipboard. Now paste into Notepad and SAVE.

Examine the data. You can also copy paste the text into a reply on this thread.

So, what do I do about this message . It's suggesting that I havea a virus, possibly Trojan, abwiz.F or possibly automatically need to download virus definition with the Intelligent Updater. My computer won't allow this and tell me that it is recommended to stop the process. The virus removal is far too complicated and I have read that folks who have done this found it didn't help the problem. I have Norton Virus protection. Thanks for any help.

Hello,

Actually this is more than errors in the Services Console Panel. I have several errors with my fresh install of Windows 8 Pro which I have never experienced before. What also boggles me with all this is that my user account is set as Administrator as usual, but still Windows behaves as it isn't.

In the Services Console Panel it says with almost all of the services <Failed to Read Description. Error Code: 2 >. Please see the attached image.

Second I am not able to rename folders in Program Files folder, not able to delete files in sub folders of Program Files, such as old log files, not able to turn off Windows Firewall, not able to disable Network adapter, not able to access and update internet time, and not able to access "Change your account name" and so on in User Accounts.

Deleting folders and files in Program Files I was able to solve by running Command Prompt as admin.

With internet time I receive the message box "Date and Time": "Unable to continue - You do not have permission to perform this task. Please contact..." and so on.

With trying to disable the network adapter I get the message "Error Disabling Connection" - "It is not possible to disable the connection at this time. This connection may be using one or more protocols that do not support Plug-and-Play,..." and so on.

In User Accounts there is no response with all the links from and included "Change your account name" and down. When... Read more

Hey guys. Recently my computer's been having an infinite reboot issue, so I looked on various websites on how to fix said problem. Each website I went to directed me towards the alt + F10 method, but whenever I try to use this method it says "Please wait a moment..." for about 10 - 20 minutes then gives me an error report saying "ERROR: failed to copy napp7.exe to ram."

So far I've...
Tried to reset my CMOS to default, did not work.
Tried to go to Advanced Boot Options, laptop just kept restarting.
Tried to see if my D2D recovery was enabled in BIOS, it was.
Tried to use alt+F10, did not work.

I really don't have the time or money at the moment to buy a recovery disk (hopefully it can be voided), so I was wondering if
a.) Anyone had another troubleshooting tip.
or
b.) If anyone knew how to fix the alt+f10 method I tried.

Thanks in advance.

It looks like your recovery partition is corrupted. You never want to rely on the recovery partition, because if your hard drive fails, the recovery partition goes down with it. The erecovery manager should've prompted you to make the recovery discs when you first started up the computer. It doesn't cost any money to make them. Since you don't havbe erecovery discs, it looks like you are going to have to clean install Windows 7 (which I prefer because it doesn't have all of the bloatware that you would have if you ran erecovery) To cl... Well, you have tried most of the things recommended. Have you run the System File Checker? This should restore original system files

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Also, a repair install should correct this

Repair Install

You have changed so much that you now have a different error, therefore I'd suggest one of the above. For future reference, while you had the original error, THIS may have worked as well.

Okay, so it's 2AM in the morning, I get Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware on my computer and remove Trojan.Vundo.H...okay, it removes it... YAY!!! I'm soooo excited! Then after I reboot my computer to finalize the changes it freezes up and it will not even move the mouse pointer...I do what I usually do and unplug the computer. And when I rebooted it (again) it starts running chkdsk.exe (apparantly "Volume is dirty")...THEN THAT FREEZES UP!!! So, I unplugged my computer again. And reboot it (AGAIN) and it ran chkdsk.exe and...IT WORKED!!! Then, I to uninstall some programs and some of the programs (while they were getting uninstalled) made XP bring up the Delayed Write Failed error message. While some other programs didn't do that...okay so I restart my computer. It didn't run chkdsk.exe but when I tried to defragment my hard drive...another "Delayed write failed" error pops up... it seems to be in one folder though...something to do with "S" and "restore" which I know is system restore... oh please tell me I don't have to get a new hard drive...I have lots of important data on my computer...and I lost the dell restoration CDs... Is there any way I can work around this????

I have two Western Digital Harddrives, an internal 250 gig Cavier and a internal in an external case, that one is a 160 gig Cavier SE. I have been getting an error lately and I have no idea what it pertains to, it?s goes like this:

Windows ? Delayed Write Failed
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file
\device\harddiskVolume2\$Mft. The data has been lost. This
Error may be casued by a failure of your computer hardware
Or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere

So I downloaded the Western Digital diagnostic test, and ran both drives through the DLGDIAG Extended tests and both came out with flying colors. Also ran a checkdisk with no problems found. I thought the Delayed Write Failed error was for a failing drive, what else am I missing? Usually this error comes up while surfing the web, but not downloading or saving any files.

Thanks

I keep getting the error message "Windows - Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file D:\$Mft. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."

I'm not sure if the error is D:\$Mft or C:\$Mft I'll post once the error appears again. The message appears at random times, usually when the comp's idle. The computer acts totally normal after the error message occurs. I've recently jumped from 1 GB of RAM to 2 GB of RAM and I've also upgraded my boot drive from a 250GB IDE hard drive to a 250 Western Digital SATA Drive.

What is this and what can I do to stop it?

Any tips or suggestions are much appreciated,

I am aware this a problem that has been addressed multiple time on this forum and others but am unable to come up with a solution from previous posts.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and have been for years.

I have had no problems previously that I was unable to fix.

This morning when starting up my pc I got the error message "Failed to connect to a windows service"

In addition it has defaulted to windows classic theme and I can not re enable Aero.

I looked at the Event log but it is simply beyond my level of understanding how to address the errors. Also all errors shown seem to be relativity longstanding/ recurring.

I have tried all the common suggestions I could find and none have fixed to problem.

Please can you help

Thanks

I was running VCE (Virtual Certification Examination) on a system with Processor 2.4 GHz and 224 MB of RAM and OS Windows Xp Sp2. The client runs successfully but designer and the server gives an error something like this:

"Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0005 or some this type of code). Click OK toterminate."

A friend of mine has suggested that RAM is less than needed. So, I tested on another system with 512 MB of RAM, where I got no errors.

Then I got another idea but I don't n know about its feasibility. The environment where I have to run VCE is a workgroup of 12 PCs each with 64 MB of RAM. Just like we can share CD-ROM drive, printer and scanner in a workgroup, cannot we share RAM of all these PCs to fullfill the requirement of VCE? 12 x 64 will give me a 768 MB of RAM. Is there any way out, please do share ASAP.

Regards.

Hi there,

I have recently bought 3 x brand new 19" TFT's (HANNS.G) and a second hand system built into a brand new case and power supply.

SEMPRON 2500+ 1400 MHz

The first monitor is VGA port
The second monitor is video card port with VGA converter
The third monitor is VGA port

Here is the strange problem:

The system is a real "old faithful" to the previous owner who is trustworthy. He has had it running with 2-3 monitors before (though 15-17") and sold as a fully reliable system.

When I try to boot about 19/20 times I get the "system failed CPU test" audibly through speakers (note not through PC speaker) before even the monitors have been recognised - within about 7 seconds of the fans whirring up.

So I gave it back to the guy who sold it to me to sort it out and he reported about 90 successful boots, said he has "benchmarked the hell out of it" and tried it with 1,2 and 3 monitors as below:

*Plugged in and turned on with one monitor in the VGA port on the dual head radeon AGP card - no problems at all, everything perfect
*Checked device manager - all drivers present and updated
*Restarted 15 times in a row - no problems again
*Shut down and rebooted 10 times - no problems

No problems so far so I resat the CPU, both graphic cards and double checked all connections were firm. To check whether the system has any problems when there is an actual load on the CPU and ram with data flowing all around the s... Read more

Another person with the "Failed to schedule Software Protection service for re-start at 2115-08-05T01:22:57Z. Error Code: 0x80070005." error...

AGAIN...

I say "again" because this issue is plastered all over the internet. I've searched and searched and have tried many things, but I still get this error every 30 seconds in my event log.

I've tried deleting and re-importing the 3 tasks from the SoftwareProtectionPlatform folder in Task Scheduler... I've exported/imported the tasks as they are, I've deleted and imported copies from a month and a half ago from my own system (before this issue started), and I deleted and imported copies from someone on the internet who was nice enough to provide their own copies. It didn't help.

I checked the registry to make sure that the last traces of the tasks were being cleaned up...

I checked that sppsvc is running under the "Network Service" account.

I've checked ACLs on all sorts of folders... And registry keys...

Oh, you're going to tell me to do "sfc /scannow" ... well that command doesn't work for reasons unknown. I posted about that a year or two ago, no resolution.

Answer:The "Failed to schedule Software Protection service" error

Oh, you're going to tell me to do "sfc /scannow" ... well that command doesn't work for reasons unknown. I posted about that a year or two ago, no resolution.

Try running, in admin cmd prompt-

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Reboot, then run sfc /scannow again.

If dism says it cannot find or download the needed files, see this thread-

Other than that I don't know.

Dear Fellow Members,

It has been some time since I have been able to get back on line, even briefly. Let me begin with a description of the circumstances which prompted this post.

I received a series of 32 .rar downloads (made using a good, high speed connection and under optimal conditions), which contain what I believe is a full DVD (sent as an .iso file) of a cultural event from the person who made the recording, of an event in which he was a participant, and for which he owns the rights. This does not relate to any sort of illegal file sharing.

When I tried to extract the .iso file, the file extracts fully and (apparently) completely (the counter goes up to 100%), but at the end (only after the file has extracted 100%) I consistently received the following WinRAR error message:

"CRC failed in the encrypted file xxx.iso (wrong password?)."

The password was correct (I have had experience that when the password is actually incorrect, the opening sequence will not initiate in the first place); the resulting .iso file (saved because I asked WinRAR to "keep corrupted files") is the full size of the file which was sent. According to what I have been able to read on line (and, again, from past experience), WinRAR should be able to indicate which of the files is corrupt during the extraction process (I have subsequently tested the archives several times in an attempt to find what is wrong), but no problem with any of the files has been i... Answer:WinRAR Error Message "CRC failed in the encrypted file"

CRC error means that the file is unreadable and or corrupted, probably just the last tidbit. You can try to open the ISO file with MagicISO but if Alcohol didn't open it, this probably won't either.

I just built a new pc two days ago and have noticed every single time on startup I receive the "Error: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might have caused the issue after you install Windows Updates" error, the keyboard doesn't turn on during boot so I can't access the bios despite having changed the boot order to specifically boot usb before anything else, now all I can do when I see the message is turn the pc off again, unplug all the sata cables, which then allows the keyboard to start working straight away some how, then once I've accessed the bios I just turn it off again, plug the sata cables back in and the error just disappears, only reappearing when I next boot

Answer:During startup I always receive "Windows failed to start" error

Perhaps a device address conflict?
I had once a problem with loading, swapped the Sata port and it runs since than ok.

48 hours ago, after boot up, an error message was received 'Configuration system failed to utilize'
After clicking 'continue' button on the message window the message disappears and the computer can be used normally without any problems.
I have not downloaded any new progs in the time period but just in case a new prog previously installed had become corrupted I uninstalled the last two programmes that I installed over the past two weeks, but error persists.
I ran the crap cleaner registry cleaner but error persists.
I ran both Malwarebytes and Super Anti Spyware - just in case of malware but error persists.
I did think of doing a system restore but as you know during sys restore the computer shuts down/starts and it may cause problems as it might not restart until the continue button, mentioned above, is pushed, but this may be hidden.
Help appreciated.
many thanks.
Keith.

it started with a delayed write failed error message, then many many delay write failed error messages. now my comp freezes when it idles and i have to do a manual shut down, which screws up more stuff. at this point, im considering shutting down my computer every time i am going to be away from it for more than 20-30 minutes. there are many problems, but i figure it would be smartest to start from the beginning: the delay write fail.

what do you guys know about this error? and what can be done to fix it and prevent it from occurring again? im thinking it could be related with the secondary hard drive that i added. if it is that, does it just mean i need to get a new hard drive and the one i have is completely useless? thanks, ive tried so many things and im getting desperate. hopefully someone here can help.

A close friend and his wife are having a problem, and I being not that familiar with XP was hoping you could help.

They have I believe 5 profiles on their computer that seem to work properly, with the exception of an error they all get on logout:

Error: Failed to set Data for 'CPL Top'

To me it sounds like a system resource registry setting missing its required setting, like a field parameter in a document.

Could you please help me.

Answer:Windows XP User With a "Failed to set Data for 'CPL Top'" Error on logout

Hi and welcome. Seems to be related to the control panel, but I can't find any information on it.

EDIT: Found this info for Windows ME, am wondering if following the renaming instructions might fix it?

new to forums and not sure if i'm in the right forum. it could be a malware issue but then again it could just be a software conflict issue. do i need to be in the malware forum or the software ?
in firefox i just started getting all these security certificate issues (see attachments) . one is my email at google, another is yahoo, another says "this connection is untrusted" - for heavens sakes, this one is mozilla. if these aren't trusted sites, none aare. is this a browser problem ?

whenever i try to use IE - upon opening the browser, i get a pop up window at the bottom telling me the Ask Toolbar has been successfully installed and it ask me to click "enable" to complete the installaation. i don't want the Ask Toolbar so i click "don't enable" and i get a new window (Ask.com) with the same pop-ups asking me to click enable. if i go to my home page (google) these to Ask Toolbar windows ar there also- asking me to click "enable.

I've been trying to change the motherboard and cpu in my current computer. After hooking everything up, the computer runs till the windows 7 loading screen, then stalls and restarts. Upon restart I'm brought to the "windows has failed to start" message and attempting to repair through that yields no results.

I hooked my old parts back up to make sure the hard drive was still good and it is. With the old parts everything boots normally.

The new parts I'm putting in are;
-AMD fx 6 core 3.3ghz processor
-Asus M5A97 motherboard

I'm totally out of ideas, any help would be greatly appreciated. I was able to pull the following from the "windows has failed to start" repair option, dont know if itll help.

Answer:"Windows has failed to start" error after installing new parts

Ok,firstly Welcome to Seven Forums!

Now worst case cenario would be your cpu cooler isnt seeted well, and the cpu gets too hot too quickly, then windows shuts it down automatically to avoid any major damages, I would say check the thermal paste on your cpu, check that the cpu cooler makes perfect contact with the cpu, check that all the fans on the cpu cooler are plugged in and working ext.

Secondly, remove all the ram you have installed except for one, leave the one closest to the cpu still in its slot. Now unplug any usb flash-drives,or wi-fi devices and start up the pc,when the screen starts up,press "del" - (delete) to go into bios, check the temps of your cpu there and watch it for about a minute or two,and see if it spikes or picks up too fast. Press f10 save and exit, the pc will restart and will now boot with only the one ram you installed,if the problem is gone, replace the other dims one by one after switching off,and start again.(Pc must be switched off at the power plug, before changing ram)

Please reply with results, and also with your system specs,ie:motherboard name and make, memory type and amount of ram you have, graphics card/s...and so,basically everything in your pc.

My m-in-l's computer crashed so I brought it to my house to reinstall everything for her. I am almost to the point of setting it back up at her house, but I am still having a couple of problems. I've searched and searched for all three but nothing has worked yet, so I thought I would post on here.

I noticed a yellow circle with a "!" in the middle of the yellow circle under device manager of her Display adapters/Video Controller (VGA Compatible)". In the system tray it says "Found New Hardware ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Series". So I went to Gateway website to get the specific drivers for my M-in-law's GT5222e Os XP and their was a chip driver for the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Series so I downloaded it & extracted the files into Cabs like the instructions said to and now I am getting the error message

"Severe - Setup was unable to complete the installation. Try to set up your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup."

So I closed that window and a new window popped up saying:

"The ATI Control Panel failed to initialize because no ATI driver is installed, or ATI driver is not working properly. The ATI Control Panel will now exit."

Any suggestions would be appreciated to how & where do I fix this.

A friend who has an Aspire One with Win7 Starter asked me to help, his computer wouldn't boot. It would go through the bios part of the boot and then very quickly it would show an error saying "ynhif is compressed" and stop there. The error would come up so fast it was as if Windows wasn't even trying to boot. There was none of the normal Windows startup screens. There was nothing I could do to boot the machine. I couldn't get to the list of boot options. This problem was happening way before one could get that list in the startup process.

I booted off an AVG antivirus rescue disk cd and checked the system. There were no viruses. That disk allowed me to use a simple file browser and editor. I could see a file named ynhif with no file extension and a file size of around 233kb. It was modified at the same time that win7.ld was modified.

I googled heavily but couldn't find anything about a file named vnhif. I didn't know what to do so on a hunch I just renamed the file to ynhif.old and the system booted right up.

Does anyone have any idea what ynhif might be from and how it got there? I looked into it with a text editor and looked like it was some kind of boot file, with references to linuxey stuff and thing about booting.

I thought I'd post this here as it might help someone else and also to see if anyone had any ideas.

Thanks!
Greg

Hello all. I'm posting here for the first time in hopes someone can help me find a solution to a very frustrating problem. I researched what I could and tried numerous possible solutions, but nothing seems to work.

The Problem
I get the following error during the installation of newer games (i.e. Brothers In Arms: Earned In Blood) "Failed Reading Source File: [DRIVE LETTER FOLLOWED BY SOME RANDOM FILE NAME]. The source media may be bad. If installing from a CD, try cleaning the CD to remove any dirt." This error occurs every time I try to install and at seemingly random points during the install process. One time it will happen on CD1 and the next time it will happen on CD3. I don't appear to have this problem during application software installation as I'm able to install MS Office 2003 without any issues.

I'll start at the beginning:

I restarted my computer and after the mobo screen it said "Please insert bootable media," or something along those lines. I restarted a few times and it would not go away or boot into Windows 7 or anything. I got fed up and decided to try a clean install of Vista on the hdrive. When trying to install it, during the copying phase it told me I had to reformat my drive first. So I deleted the partition (which was my whole hdrive) and then tried formatting, when I got the error 0x80070057 "Windows was unable to complete the format." I tried installing a few more times and it would not work.

The next thing I tried was hooking up another hard drive (this new one is IDE, the other one is SATA). I installed Vista on the new one and it all worked fine. I tried formatting the SATA drive in Disk Management and it would give me the same error code. Next I tried formatting it through the formatter on the Windows 7 install disk. When I tried to delete the partition I got the error 0x8007045d "Failed to delete the selected partition."

Now when I look in the BIOS my SATA drive is not even recognized, and is also not recognized in Disk Management, SeaTools, any of the Windows install partitioners, nothing.

I need help :(

The current state is I have Vista installed on a 40gb IDE hard drive, and I have a 500gb SATA hard drive hooked up properly that is no longer being recognized by anything.

Answer:Error 0x8007045d "Failed to delete the selected partition."

It sounds like the SATA drive has failed. If you have another SATA drive available, go ahead and test it to rule out a faulty SATA controller on the motherboard, but odds are your hard drive is dead.

So I turned on my computer this morning and, having had no proir issues that I was aware of, my screen was black and I got a message saying, "Interactive logon process initialization has failed. Please consult the event log for more details."

I didn't know what that meant, so I just restarted my computer and, shockingly, everything came back as normal, but what is the likelyhood that there is still that error with my laptop? And is there anything I can do to fix it so this won't happen again?

Other details:
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, and Windows Vista Home Basic. Also, I'm in the process of purchasing a new battery [I've been getting alerts upon login about my battery life for a couple of months now, and now the battery won't last more than 45 minutes w/o being plugged in..] if that may have anything to do with it.

Thanks guys!

Hey everyone, I really need some help from you smart people out there

I'm using Windows 2000 Professional with an AMD 1800+ computer. It's been quite stable for a few months now, but now all of a sudden I started having problems shutting down/restarting my computer. Everything I try to restart, an error message pops up saying:
I don't know what's causing this, it just kind of happened out of nowhere. The problem is, it shows up everytime I try to restart, and everytime I click on the 'OK' button, the computer does not shut down, but continues to pop up the error message until I go insane and hit the reboot button on the tower. I've downloaded all the service packs and OS updates from Windows Update, I don't know what can be going on. It's a problem because when I install a program that requires a reboot, the programs do not install correctly. If anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

By the way, here are event logs of the errors:

So this last Tuesday (7/20/10) WoW was down for some maintnence. My friends and I were bored so we decided to screw around on a Private Server for a while until WoW was back up. Problem is, when i came back to play normal WoW I tried to log in and got a "Patch Required" message telling me I would have to restart WoW to download the patch. When I clicked the restard button below i got an error message saying "Failed to apply patch. Please try again later. If problem persists, you may have to reinstall the game or contact technicall support." Since than I have reinstalled WoW twice with my WOTLK disc and have called tech support twice as well. I feel like I have tried everything but I keep getting the same error message.

Please help in any way you can! Thank you!

Answer:World of Warcraft - "Failed to apply patch" error

I'm going assume you didn't tell tech support you were on a private server. Some of the private servers have their own wow.exe program. Did you delete that(if you downloaded one)?

Did you uninstall the game first or try to reinstall over the old files? If you tried to reinstall over the old files, uninstall the game then delete the directory and then reinstall it.

Just for giggles, check the realmslist.wtf file located World of Warcraft\Data\enUS and post what is in it.

My wife & I are moving to a new area and will have new email addresses and haven't been able to get past the above error (pix below). My ISP Charter & they are always making changes to their email program & settings. Also, after months of no W7 updates, I have just started rec'd updates for both PCs.

I'm trying to track this problem down: Am I making an operational error, or is Charter trying to get everyone using their web mail, or is MS slipping something into W7 updates to force customers to W10??
If you guys have any suggestions, etc, please advise as I will be with out an email client on my PC when our move is completed. Please see image below.

cheers,
klxdrt

Hi,
I am new a member and was looking for help with the next steps of how to resolve the following error message 0x8000ffff "Failed to Create Volume Snapshot". I got this whilst trying to clone one disk to another (which have the correct amount of space to make a clone) so far on all other machines i have not got a clone error until now.

Followed the advice on Macrium's Knowledge base:
VSS Error:0x8000ffff - Backup aborted! - Failed To Create Volume Snapshot. (VSS)

All Solutions have been tried but the same error occurs. The service is set to automatic but according to the user it has not started.

However, on my own laptop Macruim clone goes through without my Volume shadow copy being set to automatic.

Anyone got any thoughts how i can get this clone to go through?

Answer:Macrium Clone error 0x8000ffff "Failed to Create Volume Snapshot"

UPDATE -

I got an some more information from my persistant googling to find another piece of the puzzle.

On the affected machine i did the following:
Opened a command prompt (with elevated privileges) and type ?vssadmin list writers? (without quotes).

This command listed all of the VSS writer i had installed on the machine. This came back with no errors.

I then did a search in Event viewer around the time i did my clone last week. I did a find and searched for 'VSS'. This came back with many errors about the following service:

Oracle VSS Writer

Hello,

Last night i was trying to update my AMD SATA AHCI Controller driver, but i shouldn't do while being sleepy....

My hand moved before my brain realised...I uninstalled the device BUT i also checked the option for deleting the drivers.

Now, i get the error while booting :

Quote:
0xc000000e

The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible

What i realise is that windows are trying to find the device needed to boot ( stored on boot info) , but device is not there.

Ι already searched the forum for similar problems and already tried to do a Startup Repair from Windows Installation Disc repair menu (3 consequent times as written), with no result.

No restore points either.

Is there any way to manually fix this or my only path is a repair install ? All my data are safely backed-up.

Thank you in advance for your help.
ΕDIT : I don't know if this is the proper subforum for the above problem, i posted here because it was caused by a driver uninstall. If mods/admins think it does not fit in this subforum please tell me.

Answer:Error 0xc000000e "Boot Selection failed- Required device Inaccessible"

Well, i found the solution after some 50-60 Google results reading...

Solution was found in this page.

Analytically :

I loaded Recovery Console from my Windows 7 Installation Disk.

Had the AMD SATA Driver folder copied to a cd from my second pc. Driver directory was "W764A"

Ran diskpart and list volume to check the cd's volume letter

Ran the following command ( D: is CD ROM, D:\W764A is Driver Directory, C: is Windows Installation ) :

Code:
D:\dism /Image:C:\ /Add-Driver /Driver:D:\W764A\ /Recurse
I typed exit to exit Recovery Console, rebooted and voila....Windows Started normally...

Glad it was solved....

I get that error (wmi related i think), when i try to check the policies on this client.. its an XP sp2 machine, a member of a 2003 domain..

I've tried removing the workstation from the domain, then deleting its account.. then renaming the machine and rejoining, but nothing has gotten me around this error..

Does anyone know what else to look for..

EIther way, i'm pretty sure GPO's arent being applied properly on this machine (actually there is another machine having a similar error as well).. I think on that machine.. the window that pops up after hitting rsop.msc, was something like "not found".

Thanks

Win 7-64 on Gateway FX6860 i7 system 8gm ram tons of HD space.
========================
Got "Page Failed to Load" error attempting to change my Win7-64bit display resolution.
This used to work, but no more ( don't know what might have caused it)

I ran "sfc /scannow". SFC reported that there were corrupted files that could not be repaired or replaced and to look at CBS.log. I did but can make no sense out of it.

Please find that file attached -- Any help will be appreciated.....

thank you,
Chuck

Answer:"Page Failed to Load" error attempting to change my Win7-64bit display

Run the system file check again. Sometimes it requires multiple runs. Reboot after each run (or before the first run if you have not rebooted since the last time you ran the check).Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations. Use OPTION THREE of SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to provide us with the sfcdetails.txt file if errors occur.

So I don't know what I did but one day this error message started popping up on my computer that says "Debug assertion failed! program" C:\Program Files (x86)\microsoft visual studio 10.0\vc\include\xstring
line: 930
expression: invalid null pointer
For information on how you can cause an assertion failure, see the visual C++ documentation on asserts"

I have no idea what ANY of that means, and I've looked up solutions but they're all too complicated and involve codes and stuff I don't know how to do.
Can someone please give me an explanation and solution I can understand?
Thanks.

Answer:How to get rid of "Debug assertion failed" error message

This is a programmers' problem, to fix it, they must change their code. Nothing you can do about it.

I'm down to one last error in the Administrative Event Log. I have searched the Web for a solution and it seems there are a lot of solutions but I have yet to find one that works for me or anybody else for that matter. It has become personal! Can someone please help me get to the bottom of this error. I will supply whatever additional information is needed.

Answer:Session "" failed to start with the following error: 0xC000000D

Let's start with this information even though you're not having BSOD's: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

FWIW - the C000000D error is probably an "Invalid Parameter" error - which means (to me) that something is trying to launch improperly. More info on the error will help us figure out if it's within our control (such as a setting) or out of our control (such as a bug in a program).

Hi,

I just started receiving this error:
UA StartSignalReceiverFromOuterThreadError: Receive Socket Create Failed!"

With the exception of Curse Client I can't connect to the internet. No browser will connect(firefox, IE, Chrome, Opera). Steam won't connect. Email client won't connect.

Other computers at home can connect. Not problems with router.

Event logs show Critical errors with
NVNetworkService
PlsvcV2
Sendori
Store-Licensing
Application (This is NVidia)

I can add more info from the logs if that would help.

The only thing I've done is a System Restore. It didn't help.
I had installed Assassins Creed which installed DirectX.

I've searched the webs and forums and can't find anyone with this issue but 1 guy 8 months ago, and there was no solution posted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have soooo much work to get done and I'm freaking.

TIA!!

Hi,

Think this just shades being in here rather than the Vista forum (?)

Our company has a modified CRM system which is used to manage workflow and generate staff activity diaries within several departments. There is a central SQL database, but part of the way it operates is by syncing with Outlook to generate certain activity prompt emails.
When a user launches the software, one of the things it does first is start Microsoft Outlook in the background (as a service).

I recently installed the software on a Vista box to test it. I had to set it to run in XP compatibility mode (otherwise it doesn't launch at all) but otherwise it seemed to work ok except for refusing to open Outlook on launch. It comes up with 4 errors...

OLE: Get FolderInbox CALL FAILED
OLE: Get FolderDeleted CALL FAILED
OLE: Get FolderCalendar CALL FAILED
OLE: Get FolderContacts CALL FAILED

Now, the company that wrote the system and provide the support switched to a .net version a while back. They say they don't support the old version on Vista.

The PC has Outlook 2007 installed. We have the system running fine on XP boxes with Outlook 2007.

My best guess is that this is either something to do with the permissions on Vista, or it is using some kind of connection method that has been retired/disabled/turned off in Vista.

I have tried running the CRM as administrator, and attempted to set Outlook to run as administrator (although whether this would work when it is launched in the way described ... Read more

Hi

I had Vista home premium installed on a PC, it got infected with Malware so I had to do a clean install, I did this following a format.

I installed SP1 then went to install SP2 but the install did not run, instead I got an error box saying "Unspecified Error" there was no error number.

I went thorough the whole process again including downloading the SP2 install file again but I got the same error.

This PC has only one hard drive and is not yet connected to the internet.

Hopefully I can get some help with this.

Reagrds

Daniel

Answer:Vista SP2 Install failed "Unspecified Error"

Hi

Problem solved, I found a 20G partition on my hard drive that must have had recovery software on it, I formatted that partition and SP2 is now installing.

Hi,

"pri master hard disk: s.m.a.r.t. command failed
Press f1 to continue"

I get the above error when I turn on my computer, but when I load windows after pressing f1 everything seems to be fine, do I need to worry about this? It started occuring after I installed my q6600 cpu last night.

Answer:"pri master hard disk: s.m.a.r.t. cmd failed" error

If your drive or PC is still under warranty, I would have the drive replaced. The SMART diagnostics are used to tell you if the drive is running outside of the specs designed by the manufacturer. If the drive goes outside the specs, then there is usually a 72-hour timeframe before the drive fails completely.

But with the error you are getting, it sounds like it's an error with the SMART diags themselves - which should be replaced anyway.

I am getting the error "Failed to load resources from resource file. Please check your Setup" This happens every time I try to access a Word document. I am using Word 2003 from the Small business pkg.

I searched on their site and there was a download for those who use the Outlook business contact manager also, which I do. I downloaded the file, when to install it and it says it is already there.

I am running Windows 2000, this just started today and my updates are up to date.

Any ideas? I can ignore the warning and work, if I click OK or the X, it shuts down Word.

Thanks!

Hello,
After the upgrade I am consistently getting this error:

"RtcPalVideoEtwSession" failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000022

Do know it is related to Skype for Business and several posts -- mostly in Microsoft Forums-- suggest uninstalling.

But Control Panel==>Programs and Features does not have Skype for Business listed.

I am running "stand alone" Office 2016 not Office 365 etc.

Stumped.

I keep getting this error when trying to open msn:

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, Done nothing. Also ran Registry Mechanic and Crap cleaner but they didn't help with this problem either.

Dear Tech Support Forum Staff and or Members,

Today I booted up my computer and received several strange errors on my desktop. The tile was: "Windows - Delayed Write Failed", and the messages underneath were mostly the same except for a few details. These are the locations described in all of these messages:
D:\$BitMap
D:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Assassin's Creed\Detection
D:\$Mf1 (I think)
D:\Program Files\Steam\resource
D:\Program Files

The whole message was: "Windows was unable to save all the data for the file (one of those locations above). The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."
Any help with determining the cause of this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely, floppyarms
P.S.
I saw significant slowness on my computer while these errors were popping up, and there were periods of total unresponsiveness lasting up to 15 minutes each.
All of these errors occurred during my computer's start-up phase.
I used Start>Turn Off Computer twice.
The first time, nothing happened.
The second time, it went to the "Windows is shutting down..." screen for about 20 minutes, and then the monitor turned off. The computer remained on, however. It stayed like this for about 30 minutes until I manually re-booted.
