Java Installed, Can't enable in browser

Question: Java Installed, Can't enable in browser

Hi! I have installed the latest version of Java, and have used the command prompt to verify that I do indeed have Java. I can also play Minecraft, which requires Java. I can not enable Java in Chrome or Firefox even though both of the settings claim that Java Runtime is enabled. Does anybody have any idea what is going on?

Preferred Solution: Java Installed, Can't enable in browser

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am getting the above error message when I try to login to www.gmx.com for my email. :cry

I am also using Opera v11.11 as my Browser and Windows 7 Ultimate as my OS. I know there is a later version of Opera out but I haven't tried it.

I've searched Google, and Opera Help, to try and find a simple solution, but once again I seem to get the runaround that doesn't answer my simple request.

Now I can login to www.gmx.com but the error message stops me from proceeding.

AFAIK, I've checked my system and "Javascript is enabled" and ticked (checked) on. Any help would be really appreciated.

I want to stick with Opera and gmx.com, if possible

I know you would prefer to use Opera, but does www.gmx.com work as expected with IE / Firefox / or Chrome?

Answer:Does Yoga 2 come with JAVA RTE installed? Does JAVA RTE run on Win 8.1 64bit?

hi rockette,

I looked into the preloaded app list for the Yoga 2 13 and Yoga 2 Pro and I'm not seing the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) being preinstalled.

You can however install JRE by going to java.com as there shouldn't be any issues running it on Win8.1 but note that Java will only be supported in Desktop screen. Java will not run in the Start screen.

Basically after spending 3 hours of my life trying to search what this problem could be, I concede that I just cannot run java apps on any browser. Help please. I can install the latest java (jre-6u27-windows-i586-s.exe) and it seems to finish installing fine... But when I try to test the installation and run any java appliaction on the java website, it just hangs the browser after a few seconds. Same too when I try to run a java app on any other website. Have tried repeatedly on latest Firefox *and* Opera. Have tried uninstalling and re-installing java multiple times, but still the same problem every time. Just cannot run java! Please note too the following:

I have also tried using JavaRa to delete all registry references and old strings before re-booting and trying multiple fresh installs but no matter what I do, my machine just won't run java without the browser hanging.

Also, in control panel, I tried clicking the java applet - javacpl.exe it just launches a message box on the screen, with a yellow triangle exclamation mark in the top left, with the following unintelligible message: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe -Xbootclasspath/a:"C:\Program Files (x86)\java\jre6\bin\..\lib\deploy.jar" -Duser.home="C:\Users\Administrator" com.sun.deploy.panel.ControlPanel

I accessed by bank's website to order some new checks and when I clicked on the "Order New Checks" link I received the following message.

"Preview Image Requires Java"
At the bottom of the page there is also a note that reads:
"Be sure to enable Java Script and Java in your computer"

The information bar also appeared and when I clicked on it and gave permission to install an Active X control I received the following message:
"Windows has blocked this software because it can't verify the publisher."

I entered the website in my trusted sites window in Internet Options but it did not help.

Using my computer help menu I found instructions to access:
Internet Options
Security
Custom level
Active X Controls and Plug ins
where I then enabled "automatic prompting"

When I tried to order again I received a different drop down window prompting me if I wanted to install the software and even though I clicked "Yes" I still received the "Windows has blocked this software because it can't verify the publisher." window.

Any other suggestions I can try. Haven't encountered this problem on other websites.

Question: Can't Enable Java

I go to Start/Set Program Access and Defaults/Custom/"Create a default virtual machine for Java." There are two choices: "Use my current virtual machine," or "Microsoft Virtual Machine." I choose one, check "Enable access to this program," and close out. But when I go back in, regardless of which VM I chose, the virtual machine section is unchecked again.

According to Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs, I have Java 6 Update 7 on my computer, and the Sun Web site confirms this. Yet no Java program appears in Start/All Programs. I used to see it listed there, but it has disappeared.

Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

Question: How to Enable Java

Hi can any1 let me know how do i enable Java
i have java alerady installed on my pc still when i am trying to open a page
it says enable Java first.

Answer:How to Enable Java

Most WEB pages require Sun JAVA (Sun is the father of JAVA). Just download & install via link, it's free.

One caution on JAVA updates. When JAVA updates, the ADD the update, therefore the old version is still on your system and they can take up much HD space. You should only keep the current version and remove the older versions (example latest = JAVA 6 but you also have JAVA 5, keep 6 remove 5) via Add/Remove Programs.

Hi, is the Java Runtime environment related to the Java that runs in a browser?

If I download and install Java Runtime will I still be able to disable javascript in a browser?

Is it even safe to have Java Runtime on your PC as I am aware that java has a lot of vulnerabilities when it comes to browsers.

The reason I ask is because I need Java Runtime to use DirSyncPro, but given its reputation I'm a bit hesitant.

thanks.

Hello everyone!

I have installed the latest Java JDK, version 6 update 26. Name of the installer was "jdk-6u26-windows-x64.exe". The JDK package of course includes the Java JRE so one does not have to download these separately.

I am using Firefox 3.6.19 and whenever I visit a website that requires Java, I cannot load the applet. Firefox reports that a required plugin is missing. But I recently installed Internet Explorer 9 from Windows Update, and if I run IE 9 there is no problem with Java in the browser.

1. Could this have to do with 32-bit vs. 64-bit compatibility, i.e. Java is 64-bit while Firefox is 32-bit?
2. How do I check that the Java plugin is installed?

Thanks!

Well folks, got a small problem. At work we use a LAN and Windows NT Workstation on each terminal. I was browsing the web when to my dismay I came to a site where I needed Java and found it to be disabled. While I'm not too familiar with NT or the inner workings of a LAN, I am assuming the Administrators can make this setting system wide. If not, is there a way I can reenable Java on my IE?? Thanks in advance!

Answer:Enable/Disable Java for IE5 on Nt Workstation LAN

Greetings

Click on the Tools button, and go to your Options.

On the Advanced Tab, make sure that the JIT Compiler is enabled.

On the Sercurity Tab, change your settings (to do this, click on the Custom button) to allow for Java.

If this IS already done, then your Network admins may have disabled Java on the proxy server. You will need to talk to them about allowing it through.

Cheers

Yesterday when I turned on my computer I received a message inviting me to install a new update to Java (Version 7 Update 25). After doing a precautionary search via Google that this was a legitimate update, I proceeded with the installation process. At the time I was using the Firefox browser (although I also use IE 9). At the end of the process I received a prompt at the bottom of the Firefox browser asking me to install the Java Plug-in. I then visited the "Verify Java Version" page which confirmed that I had the recommended version of Java installed (Version 7 Update 25). As Java recommend that users should uninstall older versions of Java from their computer, I ran the Java Uninstall Tool, but that confirmed that there were no older versions of Java on my computer.

I then opened IE9 but when I went to the same web page to verify my Java version I got a pop-up message saying that"Java plug-in 10.25.2 is not installed properly. We have updated about 400 Windows 7 x86 computers to the latest Java version.
Since the update a lot of people are calling us that the Java plug-in is disabled.
What caused the plug-in to be disabled is a total mistery since we did nog change any settings, just pushed the msi to install the new version (via SCCM2012 Application,   command line: msiexec /i "jre1.8.0_111.msi" /q )
It is possible for our users to manually Enable the plug-in again by going to the 'Manage Add-ons', but we'd like to force the applet to be enabled in I.E. automatically.

Can anybody help with this issue?

Things that I tried already:
Working with deployment.properties (deployment.webjava.enabled=true)
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\DeploymentProperties   ; added deployment.webjava.enabled with value true
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93}   ; changed Flag value

I'm running Vista with all updates, and am using Norton 2011 and Norton firewall.

I have had a series of "Medium" (yellow) alerts from Norton that point to googleupdate.exe in c:\program files\google\update\googleupdate.exe where Norton says "Unauthorized access blocked (Open Process Token)".

There is also one referring to "Unauthorized access blocked (Access Thread Data)" and this one points to c:\windows\system32\services.exe.

I've just recently updated to Firefox 4.0 and this has automatically disabled the Google Toolbar for Firefox 2.1.20060807W which they say is incompatible with the 4.0 version. It is greyed out and probably not a terrible loss. What is a loss is that I no longer see the red/yellow/green indicators from Norton IPS to tell me whether a web site returned in a Google search is safe or not (although Norton IPS 2.0 shows up in my Firefox extensions and is not disabled).

But also, under Plugins, I see that there is a Google Updater 2.4.1908.5032 which is disabled. It seems it would be possible to enable this plugin, as there is an "Enable" button that is not greyed out. I couldn't remember if I might have read something cautioning against letting googleupdater run automatically, and anyway in the last couple days I had been having some issues so I didn't want to do anything stupid and I have not enabled it.

Those issues? The computer refused to shut down night before last and I left it... Read more

Answer:Installed FireFox 4.0, now should I enable googleupdater?

you can safely disable the Google Updater Service in the windows services,go to Start
>Run: Services.msc
>scroll down to Google Updater Service
>Right click
>Properties
>change from automatic to disable
>reboot
it's not necessary to have it running as a service, and its an intrusive resource hog as well that may cause issues with intrusion detection on certain security Apps, you can always update google programs manually, but after updating you may have to disable the updater again because certain google updates re-enable it when they're being installed

Hi,

I received my Plextor M5P 512 GB today .
Could not resist and it is already installed and running...like the wind! What a difference compared to my Seagate Momentus 7200.4. I'm running a Tecra R840 laptop, and now everything loads quickly! The Win boot is phenomenal .
Everything went smooth, which was great! Zero issues, and I restore it to factory state and then removed almost all the bloatware/sw that I do not use/need!

Now I need (?) to make some tweaks, right ?

1- Defrag is already schedulled to never...so it is ok, right?
2- Should I disable restore (restore points)? (pros/cons)
3- Should I disable Write-caching to the ssd? (pros/cons)
4- Should I disable "allow files in this drive to have contents indexed in adition to file properties" ?

Anything else? (I just want a robust and reliable system! I do not need anything faster...!)

I will appreciate all the help .

Regards,
paulo

Answer:Plextor M5P installed :-). What to enable/disable

My opinion:
1 yes.
2-4 no.

Other than defrag, why not just treat the SSD as any other drive. That is what I'm doing. If the technology is not good enough to work that way then I'll move back to a 7200 or 10K SATA drive when the SSD dies.

If your Firefox browser is running slow due to various add-ons installed, then here comes QuickJava to the rescue. QuickJava allows users to enable and disable Java, JavaScript, Cookies, Stylesheets, Image Animations, Flash, Silverlight, Images and Proxy from the toolbar. This is great for increasing security or decreasing bandwidth.

Usually, if we want to disable Adobe Flash, then one has to navigate to the Add-ons page and wait for the Adobe Flash player to load. Once you see all the add-ons loaded completely, then switch to plugins and look for Adobe Flash Player, and click on the enable or disable option to turn that plugin on/off.

QuickJava addon for Firefox
QuickJava in just few click lets you disable all those Adobe Flash, Java and Silverlight add-ons running in your Firefox browser and make your Firefox browser feel light. The add-on adds rigorous security settings and smart habits that lessens the chance of malware infecting your computer.

You can install QuickJava from the Mozilla extensions webpage and restart the browser to activate the plugin.

A small QJ blue button will appear on top right hand side of the browser. Clicking on that will turn QJ icon color to redand QuickJava will get activated. The small drop down button that appears on QJ allows user to turn JavaScript, Java and Flash plugin.
If a user wants to add few other shortcut buttons that should appear along with JS, Java and Flash. Hence to do that a right click on QJ icon > Option. It will ... Read more

Hello. I recently reformatted my hp pavillion dv8330us laptop to clean off some trojans and adware. The laptop was windows XP home edition, but I decided to upgrade it to vista. When I was installing XP (since the vista was the upgrade version) I had to switch off SATA in order for windows to detect my hard drive. I then installed Vista and all works well, but I cannot enable SATA because I lack the drivers, but I can't install SATA drivers either.

Is there a solution to this problem without reformatting again and putting the drivers on a floppy? I don't have an A: drive and would prefer not to buy a plug in one if I can. Also, will it matter that much not having the SATA enabled?

Thanks,
Ricky

Answer:Solved: how do I enable SATA after Vista has already been installed?

SATA must be working; how would your drive work? I think what you are referring to is ahci which is a mode of sata operation.

As to whether or not it helps, I have benched systems with native ide and then using the same system with ahci. In every case native ide was slightly faster; not by much however it was faster.

You do understand that you can do a clean install with the vista upgrade disk correct? Vista would see your ahci mode sata without a problem so I would just clean install using the upgrade disk. Note this is a somewhat involved process so post back if you need detailed instructions on how to do this task.

Next if your really really must have ahci, there is a method of changing over without a reinstall. I have never done this so I cannot tell you if it works or not.

I recently had an incident after I restarted firefox, the addon window popped up and showed that java has been installed and enabled. I then looked at control panel uninstall window and there it was java installed(94MB). Now how could I have not noticed a 94MB big file to have been downloaded and installed itself. MS update is turned off, Firefox updates are all have been turned off and I can't come up with a way to explain this. I did install limewire and ran online scan applet today other than that I don't know this happened. Any explanations or time to format windows 7?? lol Yeah recently that has been my attitude.

Will if you have No Script installed you may have to give that site the rights to run the java script first and then make sure you let it set a a cookie.
Look in your cookie manager Exceptions and make sure your not blocking the site but allow the site to set a cookie.
If the site is not listed then add it at the top and and click the allow button.

I would like to play a computer game that requires java with some of my friends but the security of Java the last time I had used it is concerning me and causing me to delay installing it.

My general question is: Is having java installed safe?

I am very vigilant with keeping software updated but am still concerned with the overall security of Java after the big security thing last April. I did not have java turned off and may have gained an infection from that which is why I'm so wary about it.

More specific question: If I were to install java on to my computer and disable it in my main browser and only enable it in another browser that was specifically dedicated to playing the game, would I still be risking it?
So pretty much, even if I only use it on one certain thing, will having it installed on my computer still be cause for concern and pose security risks?

Or, in your opinion am I over thinking this greatly and should just not worry about it.

Thanks, Hermes

I think I know what the problem is but I don't know how to fix it so it won't return. The Java UpdateChecker keeps telling me a new version of Java is available (Update 21) but when I tell it to install it reports that it's already installed. Which it is. I have 2 Java Updates installed, Update 21 & Update 14 (64-bit). So I suspect that the UpdateChecker is seeing the 64-bit version while the installer is seeing the 32-bit version.

I can fix this, temporarily, by manually installing Update 21 (64-bit) assuming it's available. (I haven't been able to find a version labeled 64-bit, but it might be auto-detecting my OS even when I opt for an offline install. Bad move if this is what's happening as I often download on one PC, then transfer the file to update another PC offline.)

Anyway, even if updating the 64-bit version manually fixes this it's only going to be temporary. I mainly use Firefox but when I must use IE I use the 64-bit version. (I've found that most 'add-ons' that punch holes in IE don't work with the 64-bit version. Yet.) So the same problem will occur with the next Java update.

Is there a way to tell the installer to update both the 32-bit & 64-bit versions when they're both installed? Or, if my guess at what's happening is wrong, why is the UpdateChecker telling me there's a new update when it's already been installed?

Answer:Whether Java pre installed with windows ?

Hello Hari and welcome to Seven Forums.

Java is a special programming language that has been in use since 1995. A lot of games and websites and programs use Java. If you don't have it on your computer you won't be able to take advantage of the things that were created with Java. More info here:

What is Java and why do I need it?

Some computer manufacturers will include Java on any computer they sell. Other manufacturers don't. Since it's a free product anyone can install it at any time so it's no big deal if it's not on your machine. A lot of people wait until they come across something that needs Java and then they install it. That way you know you're getting the most up to date version. And speaking of up to date, because Java is so popular it is a big target for people who write viruses and other malware. So if you want to keep Java on your machine, make sure you keep it updated.

The original Java was written primarily for Internet Explorer. There was no such thing as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc. But as these new browsers became more popular, rather than re-writing the entire Java program for each one, the main program was modified for each browser. These modifications were called plug-ins because the user didn't have to do the downloading and installation. The browser did it.

Since you're being asked to install Java in order to download and watch that video, chances are it was not included by the computer manufacturer. But you could open up Control Panel... Read more

Hi everyone. I recently put together a Windows 7 Professional machine (running the RTM). After installing all of my software and the like I wanted to be sure that Java WAS NOT installed. For various reasons, mostly security and keeping resources clear, I don't want Java on this system.

First I would look at the program list in the control pannel then i would go into my computer and look at the Program Folder x86 and see if Java is located?
And what security reasons are you speaking of? As long as you get the lastest pack you will be safer then an old one or just run a firewall and av.

You can keep the 64bit one and uninstall the other one, there's a newer update 73, get it from official site and don't update from third party sites.

I have an older computer with Windows XP SP3 on it. Can I install Java 7 Update 65 on it? The Java website has a notice under the system requirements page which says that users may install it at their own risk and it is not supported under XP. I just installed it on a laptop with XP and haven't had any problems yet. When I went to install on a desktop, I looked at the system requirements and that's how I found out that installing on XP is at your own risk. The two computers in question are old and updating to another OS isn't an option. You really don't need Java for most general web browsing anyway. Am I right? Thanks.

Answer:Can latest Java be installed on XP SP3?

This page has everything you need to know.Windows XP and Javahttps://www.java.com/en/download/fa...Java 8 is not officially supported under XP at this time, but Java is committed to keeping users on Windows safe with updates to Java 7 through at least April 2015."We will continue to monitor the uptake of Java 7 updates on Windows XP. If usage remains high when we get close to that milestone, we will take measures to keep Java users safe. "http://sdfox7.com

Hello everyone,
I am facing a problem with the internet explorer and third party extensions.
We are trying to make a third party extension work even if the "Enable third party browser extensions" box is unchecked (Internet options --> Advance --> Browsing).

We create a GPO with 2 parameters in the internet explorer security:
The GPO configuration are located at: Computer Configuration --> Policies --> Administrative Template Policy definitions --> Windows Components --> Internet Explorer --> Security Features --> Add-on Management
1. Deny all add-ons unless specifically allowed in the Add-on List.
2. Add-on List (We add our extension CLSID).
In addition, we add all the websites that we need to the trusted site zone also via a GPO.
Everything works fine as long that the "Enable third party browser extensions" box is check.
If i uncheck the box, the extension that i add to the "Add-on List" is not working.
There is any way i can use third party extensions and to uncheck the "Enable third party browser extensions" box?
Thanks

I had to reset IE9 to its default settings because of some problem with the History. When I was re-enabling my add-ons, Groove GFS Browser Helper wouldn't enable. If I clicked "Enable", nothing would happen. First of all, what exactly is this add-on? Is it necessary to enable? If it is, how do I enable it?

Answer:Groove GFS Browser Helper Add-on Won't Enable

Have a read here, then you can decide whether to keep it. If you want to keep it, we can see if we can find out how to fix it

I did it before on a P5WD2-PREMIUM---see this thread:

http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx...=1&model=P5WD2+Premium&page=1&SLanguage=en-us

but there is no SATA controller listed in the Device Manager under the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller to update--there was one listed in the P5WD2 I successfully converted.

Ok, so heres the story. I tried running minecraft(a game) and i ge an error saying my JRE is non existent. I try uninstalling and reinstalling from the java site, it didnt work. I have all the administrator priveleges to my computer. I have vista(in case you didnt pick up).

So when i install java, i tested for it on the site. It says i dont have it.
i have tried going to internet options and enabling java, but there isnt even a java icon present. I also tried resetting the internet from internet options and no luck.
There is a java title in control panel but the icon is a paper with a red x.

I have also tried several resgistry cleaners and no luck, i have also manually went into my registry and deleted javasoft and tried reinstalling.
Also, any java wipers would be worth a try too.

If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, please help. I will not be on the forums until about 15 hours from now so please check back for responses then.

Answer:I installed java but it doesnt work

Run Windows System Restore - choose restore point prior to initial minecraft run -
START | type rstrui

Then try Java install again - Java Downloads for All Operating Systems

Just as I indicated. Laptop, Windows Vista fully updated. I downloaded 7u9 JRE and accidentally proceeded without first rightclicking and selecting to Run as Administrator; I simply opened the installer by double-click and continued. The typical installation instructions for onto Windows Vista are to right click and choose Run As Administrator, which in this case, I forgot to do.

I can find the items in Control Panel. I tested two websites for how they show and act in the browser (I used Firefox 16.0.1) and they worked normally. In case the information has any meaning, the sites I used were www.revolvermaps.com, and screencastomatic.com. The latter has videos which the visitor can play and they require Java be installed on the user's computer. No unusual problem.

Is this enough to be satisfied about the Java install? Should I uninstall and then reinstall using Run As Administrator?

Answer:Installed newest Java without Run As Administrator

If it's working, it should be fine...

Whenever I open my online stock broker page, the Internet explorer box "Install On Demand" pops up. It says I am missing the following component: Java Virtual Machine. I click download and it took me to a microsoft site that says it can't be accessed because I don't have JavaVM. I have downloaded what I thought was Java Virtual Machine from a number of different sites, but it never fixes it. I have done windows update also, that does nothing.

I run IE 6.0 and WinMe.

Thanks in advance for your help. You guys do a great job!

Answer:Java Virtual Machine installed...but not

You probably need to download an older version of Java before you can download the newer version. This can be the case for XP. Follow the link I have provided, scroll down to 'One More Way To Get Microsoft Virtual Machine' and follow the provided instructions. I believe this will solve your problem. If not, we'll try something else.

I have a yoga 2 with 8.1 and downloaded LibreOffice because I want to use its Base database function. However it will not run because it seems that the yoga 2.1 does not have Java RTE installed.  I was surprised to hear this and looked it up on the web to see if I  could find it to install it and it gave me a  link to Oracle.  So I did a search on the web first to see if there were any known issues and it said there are problems running Java on 8.1 / 64 bit systems which is what I have. So I thought I would come here first and ask if anyone has installed LibreOffice and Java RTE on their Yoga 2/ 8.1 64 bit notebook and if it works?
