Email desktop client

Question: Email desktop client

Hi everyone....

I currently have Windows XP home and have been using Outlook Express.
I will be buying a new system with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office.

I understand that Win 7 does not have Outlook Express. Which desktop email client that is similar to Outlook Express would you suggest to use?

Also, how would I transfer my existing email messages. folders, and address book from Outlook Expresss to the new desktop email client?

thank you

Joe

Preferred Solution: Email desktop client

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Email desktop client

Microsoft offeres Live Mail but see my post from earlier today.

I have used a number of clients over the years from Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail to Outlook 2013.

I am wondering what you guys use as your main client.

Answer:Which email desktop client do you use and why?

I just use my browser to read my email, GMAIL.
I do like Thumderbird and I really should test it out in Win10TP.
I've also used Eudora in the past and it was very good. IMO.

Hey all.

I've used Thunderbird in the past for my home computer, and I use Microsoft Outlook at work.

I want to manage 3-4x e-mail addresses at home, but here's the thing... I'd prefer it NOT download and store all my e-mails locally. I just installed two new hard drives and was looking in AppData for things to move to the updated computer, and noticed that Thunderbird had about 8gb of files hanging around.

I know that you can delete e-mails in Thunderbird and 'compact' it and it will delete them then, but I don't tend to delete e-mails, and I have thousands.

Is there a client that just organizes things for you but otherwise doesn't take up space on your desktop? I know this would have to be IMAP instead of POP3, but Thunderbird supports IMAP and still does this.

It's possible I just have the settings wrong, however. I've heard good things about EM Client & Inky, but I don't know enough about it to judge.

I use Outlook for my main email but I also have an gmail account as well as a hotmail (outlook). I would like a free email client that I can install on my computer so I can have a desktop email client for my gmail and hotmail accounts so I don't have to access it via web mail. Is there a free email client that works with windows 10?

Answer:Is there a free email client for desktop use

I like FossaMail

Its opensource, it supports email encryption and is free as in free beer, it also available in 64-bit
Its also compatible with Thunderbird, sadly Thunderbird is only 32-bit.

However having just visited Fossamails site page, they are discontinuing development So I would have to say Thunderbird ? Software made to make email easier. ? Mozilla

Specifically if using the portable form of Opera Mail, the mail client available from portableapps.com.

I tried looking at many articles from internet searches but found nothing telling where to find the folder holding the email messages for the email client.  My copy of portable Opera Mail is on a usb flash drive.  I have tried looking through the folders for the application but still do not know how to recognize any email messages.

Answer:Where on desktop is email for email client?

portableapps.com.

You do understand that downloading apps like this from most 3rd party sites poses all sorts of security risks, Remember this, That software while it was made by WhoEver has now been modified by somebody, How was it modified, Who did it, What else did they put in it? I may be wrong here however I also think may be against most software developers TOS to use modified software like this.

FYI only.
While Opera is free some sites and some people have used " the making of a app portable" on paid for software to bypass  having to pay for the software. I used to do just that a long time ago. I now know and understand why it is bad.

Eg.
Making XXXXbytes premium into a portable application. While creating the portable you use a genuine key or "other" methods to activate Then compile it as portable with the activation in place, Now anybody with XXXXbytes portable has a free premium copy instead. That's software piracy. And Theft.

I use thunderbird to connect to my ARMY AKO email account. I noticed the majority of the time, the client has difficulty completing sending email. (Though some gets through without timing out.) IF I go directly to the website and use their email I have no problems at all. What could be causing this? I'd rather use my client email program than to have to go the email site. Bear in mind this only happens sometimes, more frequently than I'd like, and I am also overseas.

Hello, I always use web-based email via the browser at home. I do not use an email client(well in the office we have Outlook). I'd like to use Thunderbird at home with a Gmail account that can be used by the kids. Now I am using Avira IS 2012 and would like to make it scan emails through it's mailguard component. I have seen Thunderbird work with Avast IS on my brother's pc but I see that for it to scan all emails the SSL/TSL should be deactivated. I was asking the tech guys at the office about email clients, digital certificates etc and they only remarked "google it"...wow... So I came here....Now my questiosn are: a. Is it safe to disable SSL/TSL in an email client? In the office we have that(with Norton Enterprise) and I see an indicator at the bottom of the email message that it was scanned by Norton. b. Can there be an application that can allow me to have SSL/TSL at the same time have Avira scan my emails...? I searched google and found out that in Avira it also has to be disabled to let it scan all emails. c. SSL/TSL is encryption right..? Does not using encryption in email okay..? I mean at home. In the office it's important but at home...opinions please..d. What ports for POP3 IMAP SMTP should I allow Thunderbird to use In the firewall( I use Comodo). If Thunderbird wants connections via other ports other than the default ones...should I allow it or not..?e. Can an email client be run inside a sandbox? Is it sane enough or crazy..? Just... Read more

Answer:Thunderbrid email client, Comodo Email Certificates, Avira IS 2012 questions

I would highly recommend that you keep TLS/SSL enabled this makes sure that your password and user credentials are not sent in the clear.

if the AV needs to have this disabled then its not a good AV..

The ports are on the setup page for Gmail: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Using_Gmail_with_Thunderbird_and_Mozilla_Suite

Digital Certs are expensive to create and use, and only vital for businesses and not home users.

I use T-Bird (v 31.7.0) On 2 occasions now, I have sent emails, with Attachments, to a friend in the UK, who is running HOTMAIL.On each occasion the Attachment is OK, but the message I sent with ti increases it?s Font size, line by line, until it is unreadable. Two 3 or 4 characters per line??and sections of the email are repeated. 4 or 5 lines, then back to the top. They are blaming me for a Virus?..but I am thinking the problem is their end, with a stuck key, or similar. Any ideas ?

Answer:thunderbird email change font size in hotmail email client

I don't know what is causing this but pretty sure "what it isn't".1. It is not the usual behaviour of a virus.2. It is not a stuck key their end. Keys don't come into the equation for received emails.Try sending an attachment to yourself and some other contact who will co-operate. That way you should be able to narrow down which end is responisible for the problem.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

My email client, desktop program PostBox (for Win) has been slowed since I installed BD TS2016 (I'm quite sure this is the reason as it was very fast before, and slowed immediately after...)

I also run WebRoot AV (which does not scan email as per their documentation) and HitmanAlertPro (which could also be affecting my email client, but I uninstalled it to test this somewhat small chance given its just an anti-exploit, and it doesn't seem to have affected it, the client is still slow).

1. I would LIKE BD to scan my email as of course having AV w/o scanning email could in many ways be pointless given email can be a deadly vector for heavy malware.

2. But I don't want my client to be slow. It's not horrible, and I suppose I could tolerate it (basically deleting messages, loading new messages, and the program responsiveness overall, is a bit sluggish compared with its normal instantaneous response)

3. Is there a way to configure email scanning differently? Or should the program NOT be slowing my client noticeably in general, and is this behavior indicative of something being wrong?

I'm sure BD users will be able to comment on whether it slows their email or not given they use a desktop client like Outlook, Postbox, Thunderbird, etc.

Thanks!

Hi

Sadly nothing is easy I'm afraid when using Yahoo webmail unless you have the paid account, Live Mail and Gmail are the better free email accounts, but try the below.....

You can use your Yahoo email address with the Windows Live Email Client, or try Thunderbird as its free too.

BUT note that to setup POP3 account with an email client application you may need a Yahoo Plus account which is a paid for account over the free email account. But you can try Ypops! to set the free email up with POP3 access. Thunderbird + Ypops instructions HERE

Here is the problem: I have my email client (PocoMail) set as my default email client. It shows up as default client in the "Default Program section" in IE7.
When I click on a email link, whether it's in another program or on a website, my email client doesn't open the compose window with the address entered BUT IE7 starts and opens about 80 windows which need to be killed with Task Manager. By the way, this has nothing to do with PocoMail because it also happens when Thunderbird is set as default.

I am stumped. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mentallo

Hidy ho all,

I wanted to set up an email client that acted a bit like my phone handles email. Downloads the new ones, lets me choose what to do with them (read them, delete them, mark them as special or something) but then simply uploads the instructions to the server without actually deleting them from the server. Is there an email client that does this?

I recently setup a new Windows 7 machine (brand new Skylake build) and swapped the displays from my old machine to the new machine, and started working on the old machine via RDP as I migrate things slowly.
What I found by trial and error is that usually within 20 minutes of using Remote Desktop from the new machine, I would get the Aero Performance warning. I see dwm.exe consuming 100% CPU of a single core. This boggled me because I have a fast machine, with
an ASUS GTX 580 Matrix GPU (nVidia) that performs very well. I am using the latest Geforce drivers.
Once it happens, dragging Windows is a very hitchy experience. Nothing works to recover. If I start the Desktop Window Manager service, it'll go immediately to a high CPU state. I have to reboot to clear it up. If I dont use RDP, it never happens, but within
minutes of opening the RDP session, there it goes again. I can stop the Desktop Window Manager Session Manager service to workaround the problem.
One more symptom. Once, before rebooting, I decided to uninstall the nVidia drivers and try reinstalling them. The installer complained that no compatible display adapter was found. I had to reboot in order to reinstall them. This almost sounds like a flaky
driver or GPU, but this GPU worked fine for the past couple of years in another box (though that doesn't mean it didn't go bad since).

My Email client, MSN Premium (not Hotmail) will not open to write an email when clicking on any website's button labeled "send us an email". Instead this action causes several instances (up to 5) of IE6 to invoke and then the Op Sys (WinME) hangs until I use Ctrl-Alt-Del to end the erroneously opened IE tasks. I thought maybe it was that MSN mail was not my default email client so I used the proceedure to make MSN mail my default instead of OE6 but each time I returned to the options to see if it had changed it still says my default client is OE. Interestingly, if I envoke the MSN explorer and go to my MSN email inbox I can send and receive my email perfectly. This machine has been up and running since last October. I do not know if the problem has always existed or started more recently since I don't often click on "send us email" buttons.
I have three other machines similarly set up and none of them exhibit this problem.
WinMe, MSN Premium, and MSN messenger 6 all are up to date and current.
McAfee AV is on and up to date.
CounterSpy and Spybot are up to date and actively running.
Firefox 1.0.2 is my default browser

Answer:Solved: Clicking "send us an email" hangs system and will not open my email client.

When a receive an email and it has an attachment ie a Photo, and I save the attachment I've noticed that the downloaded file ends up being " Read Only ". If I download the same attachment from the Outlook Server, it does not have the " Read Only " attribute marked. Also I tried downloading the same attachment via my Thunderbird Client, it also downloads the file, but the " Read only " attribute is NOT set.

(sorry if this is a repost, did a bit of searching beforehand though)

I've used Opera's built in email for a long time now, mostly because I enjoy the convenience of clicking the left sidebar and opening my email so easily, but I was wondering what everyone else uses? Perhaps try to coax me into a new client?

Answer:What email client do you use?

Most that use IMAP (including myself) are not very happy with Opera's mail client.

They've rewritten the IMAP backend from scratch. It is available in 9.0TP1 and will be available in 9.0 Final when it comes out.

The problem is, the interface is a pop3 interface. Almost all the features are pop3 features. There are a million features missing for IMAP. Opera's mail client destroys the idea of IMAP. I've been on them to fix things. We'll see.

Also, the fact that the folder list is in a panel and the message list is in a separate window makes it a pain for drag n drop. Lots of people have panel placement set to float, which make the mail client a pain to use.

The whole filters deal just doesn't do it for imap. Opera's mail client doesn't even keep things in sync with the server. Also, it can easily wipe out all messages in your imap folder.

Now for pop3, Opera's mail client works fine and is pretty cool.

Also, if you are one to compose mail in HTML format, you can't in Opera. You can't even forward HTML that someone sent to you. Also, Opera itself doesn't support copying and pasting of rich text so if you copy pics, links and text from a web page and paste it, all you get is text.

Also, new in Opera mail, like some other clients, now splits up download messages into separate folders for each day and each message is now stored in a separate file. This is supposed to improve parsing files by doing things separately... Read more

Thinking about getting away from using webmail, and getting a webmail client. I use W7 Ult. I am not looking to pay for anything; I understand MS Outlook has a free vers. So, I go to the outlook page, but it's asking me to sign up. That kinda threw me. Sign up - for what? Create an acct? That type of thing worries me, even if it is MS.

Thoughts? Thanks.

Answer:Email client

Ms Outlook has no free versions. Outlook.com (former Hotmail.com and Live.com) is a webmail service by Microsoft. It has nothing to do with Microsoft Outlook email client and personal information manager, part of the Microsoft Office suite. If you want to use Outlook.com webmail, you have to sign up for an Outlook.com account.

You can use Microsoft Office Outlook client to read and send Outlook.com mail but they really have nothing else to do with each other.

I have a few email addresses from different companies that I have had for many years. I had no problem setting them up in Outlook Express, so whatever email address the person had that I gave them (anyone of three different ones), Outlook Express would open all of them.

Now I intend to buy a computer with Windows 7 and they do not use Outlook Express. I would like to keep these different email addresses and have the emails all open in the email client I choose to use.

I assume that Outlook would do this, but I really can afford it right now but will get it if I have to.

Any email program that will pull all these different email address in and open them?

Someone mentioned Windows Live 2011 - I haven't looked into this one, anyone familiar with it?

1. Any suggestions of email clients that any of you use to do this type of emailing would be appreciated.

2. Can I use more than one email client (of course only one would be set as the default client), such as Outlook Express and some other client - then switch between the two?

Thanks,
Rudy

Am using Netscape 7.2 right now. Understand the latest version is over blotted with a clumsy UI (haven't even looked at it yet). When emailing a file from another application, such as Word or Adobe, Netscape opens but the authoring program crashes. So, I am looking for another email client.

Have used Opera Mail from within the browser, Incredimail, ExpressPlus (which integrates with my PIM - Time & Chaos), Courier Mail, etc. What is the best email client that you have used, are you still using it, and how long have you used it?

I have been using Eudora basically since day one. Back before Al Gore invented the Internet. But I have been thinking about Switching over to Mozilla for everything. (Web Browser, Email, Calendar)

Question: email client

I have Windows 10 pro and have been using Windows Mail; unfortunately it is erratic syncing and I just lost a valuable folder. It seems ok at times and I like its simplicity because I am at an average tech level.
I have had other issues with it so have discontinued use.
Awkward as it may sound, I use gmail because of my phone but it too has difficult folders.
I have a MS account because I run Windows and it too has fickle folders.
So I use the folders in my ISP Comcast account as it is dependable as far as folders go.
All of my contacts and places like forums and doctors tetc have my MS account as the default.
I have read about email clients and tried a few like Thunderbird, Claws, and another that escapes me.
I need an email client that is fairly easy to use and can accomodate three accounts.
Are you aware of any? I don't have a VM so don't want to try then remove too many.

Answer:email client

OK, this is just my $0.02 worth. If you liked the old M/S Outlook Express you may want to look at OE Classic from here: http://https://www.oeclassic.com/ A member here suggested it to me and I switched. Works great with my gmail without having to go to gmail.

Hi,

I have just upgraded my PC to Windows 7 and note that there is no email client. I have installed Windows Live Mail and I hate this programme with a vengenance. My wife refuses to use the PC until I get rid of WLM.

We have a laptop which still has Vista and Windows Mail which we are used to and is excellent. We really do not want two different email programmes so is there a way to install the Vista Windows Mail on my Win 7 PC? We can transfer the necessary files from the laptop if need be.

Step by step instructions would be appreciated.

I have been using AOL for years and have finally got fed up as they have been losing 30% of my email over the last month and simply will not admit it is their fault. I have set up my own domain with oneandone who also provide me with 3 POP3 mailboxes and an outgoing SMTP server. So, I have some nice new addresses and some mailboxes which leaves two decisions: which ISP to use to get on line and which Mail Client to use to send and receive email.I have plenty of time to decide on which ISP to use as I am still using AOL to log on. However, the question of which Mail Client to use to access my POP3 Mailboxes is urgent. I have played about a bit with Outlook Express over the years so using that would be the easiest. However, I am worried that most viruses, worms etc seem to be written to work with OE so would I be best to avoid it?I am wondering about Outlook, but is it not also vulnerable to viruses etc? Is it not also fairly big and clunky given that I only want email, not any sort of time management. (I am retired) On the other hand, I shall be using several email addresses to keep my mail in order so perhaps Outlook would be a good choice?I am wondering to about Eudora and Pegasus. As I know nothing about these, any comments would be most helpful. With thanks in advance.

Answer:Which is the best Email Client?

This is a good choice if you want to add a bit of panache, or perhaps themes to your emails as I find most emails boring.Depending on your sense of humour you can certainly liven someones day up, and as far as bugs, worms, etc I am not aware of any but of course you have to be using decent Antivirus, Firewalls etc for protection anyway.

Question: email client

Hello

To change my email client do I click on control panel>default programs>associate a file type>mail to?

My current one is WLM but I don't know what happens when I click "Change program"!

Will I have a choice like Windows Outlook.com?

**The reason I am asking is because if I click on 'set your default programs' as I usually do and highlight a program to set as default, no other mail is there - just WLM. I have Gmail, 2 Live accounts, Comcast account, and WLM all in my WLM desk account. I was hoping to make the Outlook.com application the email client but maybe it cannot be done.
I have not synchronized and do not know if it is necessary to get Outlook.com to appear on the default program page.
Any help appreciated.
Thank you

I am not sure if this is the right place for this question or not but I have a new laptop with Windows 8 and there are those panes and one was for Mail. I selected it and it asked me to enter my username and password. I wasn't sure if it would work but I put in my hotmail information and it worked. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a way to back of out that and there are other people that use this laptop using the same login information. When you select the Mail pane, it automatically goes to my email inbox. Is there a way to reset it so there is no personal info again? I don't really know what I am doing but I do know I don't want a bunch of folks able to read my personal email. I have looked everywhere I know to look.

I would really appreciate any help you can provide.

This seems to be a hard topic that many of  us cant understand. Espcially if you are a 73 old dummie, like me. I have a older computer with windows 7 on it and I think it might be on its last leg so I am trying to set another used computer I bought with windows 7 on it.  When I try to respond to a ad on Craigs list it says no client email set up.   So here goes, I will try and explain it the best I can.  I did set up a hot mail account, but dont use it. Dont know if windows live has been downloaded to it or not.  When I signed up for a computer service provider years ago, I went with Wal-Mart which provided a disc that automatically downloaded and cost $9.95 a month. (no high speed in my area at that time, had a computer with XPon it)  This worked fine and is very simple and easy for seniors to understand. Finally windows 7  came out and it no longer supported it.  by then high speed internet was available in my area, so I went with it. Provided by Windstream.net  (they set up a email account for it too but I didnt like it) I know that the wmconnect was supported by Netscape and now AOL shows up when I log on to my wmconnect.  I still liked wm connect so    a friend set up Windows 7 so when I log on to my email  it went to my wmconnect.  I have used this for about 5 years and works fine. (wm disc will not work on windows 7 so he had it set up so it went through Internet ex... Read more

Currently I am using Thunderbird, previously I used WLM. As far as WLM is concerned, I disliked it from the word go. Thunderbird, on the other hand, I liked from the start excepting for the fact that it seems to take forever (by today's computer standards) to load.

My question is: Is there a happy medium? Something like Thunderbird that loads quickly? I did the usual googling and came up with a number of names to programs that promise you the moon and sixpence: each one is the best ever and will never be eclipsed, ya, ya!

So I ask the experts here what opinions they hold of the various email clients. I don't care if it is free or I have to pay for it as long as it works like TB but loads quickly.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Searching for a new email client

I've been trying Thunderbird as I need a replacement for Outlook 2003, which has had Microsoft support dropped when they dropped Windows XP. I don't see any difference in speed between Outlook 2003 and Thunderbird. They both load equally fast.

I'm using my ISP's "POP" e-mail server. If you are using Yahoo, gmail, etc that may take longer??

Answer:looking for a good email client

I have searched for a decent free email client for a few years now, and can't find one that suits my needs. Even paid clients don't seem to match up to my requirements. Some come close, but there's always something that breaks the deal. I currently use PocoMail, but it's no longer in development and wasn't made for anything newer than XP, though it does work fine on Win7. Eventually I will need another client, but have no idea what could replace Poco.

As for the Office 7 ribbon, I didn't like it at first but once I was basically forced to use it, it started to make sense and become easy to use. I now find it comfortable and in many ways better. Have you given it a fair chance?

Hi,
I have WinXP Home SP2 and Pegasus mail shows up in IE as the default mail program, and I don't want any email program there. The drop down menu in IE doesn't let me select "none". I'm not sure if the config in Pegasus would allow me to change this or not, but still, the drop down doesn't allow a blank. It has Outlook and something like possibly...MS Web Mail in there too.
Is there a way to NOT have any default email client listed in IE?

At my work latley, we have encountered a problem. See my boss gets TONS of emails that he needs to keep for records, and apparently Outlook 2003 only can hold 2Gigs of information according to Microsoft tech support. Which is very stupid and pointless in my opinion.

I have used Thunderbird at home for some time now, but I'm not sure if it has a storage limit either, I would love to use Thunderbird over Outlook.

The problem we encountered with outlook in that my boss exceeded the 2Gig limit and all of his emails would not come through and he lost a lot of important information. We now regularly back up the emails, but he would like to store as many as he wants instead of moving them onto his hard drive. And it would be easier for me, when I go to bak it up since I won't have to look all around his hard drive. I could just drag and drop it from his Thunderbird onto our server.

So if anyone knows if Thunderbird has a limit please let me know.

- Thanks

So remember the days, when you click the "Inbox" button on you WLM/MSN and BOOM! IE opens up, auto-logged in waiting for you to check/browse your stuff?

Well I've upgraded to Windows Essentials 2011, and I started to like the actual client (Windows Live Mail). Recently however, I grew tired of it for some odd reason, since any changes I have to make...I'll have to do it on the web based email page anyways.

The problem is, when I liked the Windows Live Mail client, I set it as the actual default client. How do I switch it back to IE opening my email? Tried default programs, but none of those seems to help . Any suggestions?

Edit: Got the issue resolved. Was trying to avoid reinstalling Windows Live Essentials but that fixed it anyways.

Mozilla Thunderbird may work for you if you still have Outlook installed on the computer. According to a MozillaZine article, Thunderbird imports the PST file contents through calls to Outlook. The article also explains why you may find it difficult to find any program that can directly import a PST file's contents without using an installed copy of Outlook.

Having just set up a Gmail account, I was thinking of setting up Thunderbird to access it. Then I thought, do I need an email client? I would like to know what others think about the relative merits of email client v Gmail website?

Answer:Email client or website?

If you have a Gmail account then you don't need to use an email client, you can run it entirely via a web browser. This also means that you can have access to your mail from *any* computer. I personally much prefer to use an email client and use IMAP protocol, so that all of my mail is available on any of my computers using, in my case, Windows Live Mail.

I am trying to figure out the best alternative, that has similar functionality to Outlook, and would suggest a popular client so that support is available.

I was considering Thunderbird, as I have used Firefox for the last few years.

Does it have Calendar and Contacts similar to Outlook?
Can it be synched with Gmail?

What is the best way to get mails from pst on old pc to new client in new pc???

I have seen this:
1. Install Thunderbird on old pc, and transfer data
2. Then copy the entire Thunderbird folder on your old PC from: < path >\Application Data\Thunderbird folder
3. Install Thunderbird on the new PC and elect to NOT migrate any data
4. Create a new Profile, and elect to use "Default User" as the Profile Name
5. Start Thunderbird, but exit when the Mail Wizard comes up
6. Next, with Thunderbird closed: Navigate to the < path >\Application Data\Thunderbird folder Delete the Thunderbird folder
7. Next: Copy the Thunderbird folder from the Old PC to the < path >\Application Data Folder
8. Start Thunderbird, and your Mail and all data will be in place.

Answer:problems with Email client

I'm confused, is BT/Yahoo your DSL provider? You can keep using them if they provide you with a reliable connection. You can get your email from anywhere...hotmail, fastmail, oddpost, etc...newsgroups might be a bit tougher...if you don't mind using a client, look up "free nntp" in google and you should get a list of newsgroup servers.

Hi,

I am in a need of an email client (outlook/thunderbird etc) with specific features,

I have several domain names and email accounts that take ages to administer - but if i use outlook / thunderbird I end up with a mailbox for every account - or the emails seems to not download from servers with the same mail address, and inadvertantly get lost! e.t.c

Like software that would allow me to specify many email account locations and usernames/passwords, let me apply various statuses and groups to them - in more of a central way than outlook will let me:

Visnetic Mailflow:

I dont mind if the software has to run as a server (i.e. using it as a localhost website).

I'd prefer not to run a mail server as i can't guarantee my computer will be on all the time (dont want to change the MX record but then loose mail when my connection is down). Is there another way to run a server that wont result in lost mail?

Does anyone have any suggestions,
Please ask if you need further response, I know i've waffled quite a bit,

I have WLM on my Laptop, and I have just installed eM client as well.
MS is not supporting WLM soon and my swap from WLM to eM was hugely successful. However, although the transition on my Desktop was fine, and I managed to transfer all my Contacts, somehow that is not working on my Laptop. ( I CAN do these one by one, but I'm lazy and want to do it in one fell swoop!)
As stated, I DO have WLM still installed, mainly hoping to retrieve my Contacts from that, but to no avail.
I have followed the eM Client blog that shows how to "Import" files, but that does not seem to work on my Laptop.
THe email service is running fine on my Laptop.
The "Import from "Window Live Mail", then the options that follow do not work!
What am I doing wrong?

Hello, I'm a newbie here but from browsing the site, this looks like a good place to find help with my problem.

Unfortunately, after the attack I've run into a problem where images no longer appear in my email. This is not just an Outlook 03 problem. I've tried Thunderbird and Incredimail as well. All have the same issue. Just shows the red X for any images.

I'm running Vista Home Premium SP2 on a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop. and have tried all of the following w/out any luck:
Repairing Outlook

Uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook & Thunderbird

Removing the temp files for Outlook from the folder listed in the reg key (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security)

Temporarily disabled Norton Internet Security

Checked all settings in all email clients related to security & images

Checked setting on my email host. My domain is set up thru Simplehost & the other two email addresses on the domain are not having any problems.

Uninstalled Malwarebytes after removing "Antivirus 2010"

I'm really at a loss here. It seems something got switched off in a security setting somewhere but I just can't seem to find it. I appreciate any help you can provide. If there's other information that will be helpful, let me know.

Thanx in adva... Read more

Trying to help my SIL. Have not had a chance to look for myself but here is what happened: she was trying to close an Excel spreadsheet and an IE 11 pop-up said it could not perform the operation because the default email client was not correctly installed. She clicked ok and shut down her PC. During shutdown, she got a message saying 47 programs had to be closed. After restart, she opened Excel and her changes had been saved so apparently everything worked ok despite the error message. I have no idea what the 47 open programs were. She does not have an email client on her PC as she does all of her email by logging onto her Verizon webmail account. She has Google Chrome set as her default browser. We had to do this because IE 11 will not communicate with Verizon for some unknown reason. Apparently this problem (IE 11/Verizon) is well known and discussed by both Verizon and MS. From what I have read, she will have to install an email client such as Win Live Mail and set that as default. However, what has changed that started this problem? Perhaps a recent Win 7 update? Also, do you think setting Chrome as default browser is causing the problem? Finally, what does IE 11 have to do with Excel? I am pretty sure she has MS Office 2010 Home and Student which does not have (I think) Outlook. Thanks.

Im looking to try out a new email client but im not sure which one to get ?!?I am using the standard Outlook Express in windows XP Pro.But i am hoping that i can get my hands on a clientthat will enable me to check my yahoo, Aol, Msn, Hotmail and various other email addresses i have acumulated over the years.Any help would be very much apprechiated.

Answer:Fancy A New Email Client ?!?

My preference is for Becky! from click here - it costs about US$40. It has a plugin to allow you to get Hotmail quite easily. Using YahooPops you can also get your Yahoo mail. If you want a free one, try Pegasus mail - pmail.com - you can use YahooPops with this one also. How to get AOL mail I do not know; nor MSM.

This question is what seems useful to ask after reading http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/537071/transferring-e-mail-system-from-old-xp-to-new-win-8-computer/

Why or what is the advantage of using a separate email client software program, when webmail lets you do everything(?) that you would want without installing an email client on your computer.

Answer:Why a separate email client?

There are those of us that rather have the email on our computers and not stored on a server. There are times I want to read my email while off-line. Some people like to integrate their email into their calendar client as well. Those are just three things you can't do with webmail.I'm sure there are a lot more, that I either don't do or use. Or don't come to mind at the moment. Not dire, but what if the server is down when you want to look at an email you have read but need to refresh your memory. That has happened to me more than once in my email use career.

They will not have email servers for each client progrem, but I suspect that you are talking about three different services there. On only one of them is your ISP acting as an email server. For the other two, your ISP is just providing connectivity to the internet, with the email servers being hosted by other organisations (goolgle for GMail and Microsoft for outlook.com).

Thunderbird is an email client program and may well be pointed at the ISPs email server, to collect email from the email account that comes bundled with the connection.

ISPs will frequently have many servers forming their email infrastructure, but apart from having different functions in the grand scheme of things, they the only split from a customer PoV will be between home user and business email.

ps "Outlook" could also refer to an email client program that could collect email from your ISP email account. I was assuming that your use of Outlook refered to Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail) - the web based free email provider.

Answer:Does an ISP have a different server for each email client?

Your ISP has no way of knowing what email client you are using.
