E9 Preview 4 vs. Firefox 4.0 Beta, Chrome 6.0 Dev, Opera 10.6, Safari

Question: E9 Preview 4 vs. Firefox 4.0 Beta, Chrome 6.0 Dev, Opera 10.6, Safari

Only milliseconds separate Internet Explorer 9 from the fastest-browser-in-the-world spot. Microsoft released the final Platform Preview Build of IE9 yesterday, with v1.9.7.9.16.6000 now available for download for testers around the world. With the advent of Platform Preview 4, Internet Explorer 9 has suffered massive JavaScript-related improvements, with the new Chakra engine now a part of the browser’s core, but also with a boost in terms of JS performance. IE9 Platform Preview 4 1.9.7.9.16.6000 is now faster than the same of the recent Firefox 4.0 Beta 2 releases, and also faster than Safari 5.0. In fact, the latest development milestone of Internet Explorer 9 is the fourth fastest browser in the world, according to the scores in the Webkit Sunspider JavaScript benchmark.

Preferred Solution: E9 Preview 4 vs. Firefox 4.0 Beta, Chrome 6.0 Dev, Opera 10.6, Safari

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: E9 Preview 4 vs. Firefox 4.0 Beta, Chrome 6.0 Dev, Opera 10.6, Safari

IMO, once you get down to ~500 milliseconds, you're not going to see a real difference between browsers. For example, 450 and 550 ms are almost indistinguishable to typical human senses, as far as I know. But kudos to IE for finally getting in that range!

IE9 vs. Firefox 3.6.3, Chrome 4.1, Opera 10.52, Safari 4.05 vs. Same Markup

Internet Explorer 9?s evolution with the release of Platform Preview 2 is illustrative of the work the company is doing with the goal of achieving ?same markup? across all browsers. But same markup (the same HTML, same CSS, and same script working seamlessly across all browsers) is not just about the Redmond-based company. It?s also about developers, standard bodies, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), and rival browser makers. Same markup is bound to make more sense to developers than to end users, IE9 Preview 1 and 2 are, after all, developer releases. The public needs to think of ?same markup? in terms of interoperability, meaning that a website, any website, should work the same across any browser they run.

Browser interoperability is, as a general rule, a multi-way street and a multi-faceted problem. If it really didn?t seem so thus far is because of nothing more than aggressive marketing from a few players on the market. And let?s be fair, because Internet Explorer provided such an excellent target to blame for everything that was wrong with the web. But what if, one day, IE simply fell in line? Will the world (www) be ready to accept that browser interoperability comes with many, subtle nuances, which can be solved only through collaboration? Let?s hope so.

What's everyone's opinion on chrome and how it stacks up to the competition?

I personally like the design of the browser. The tabs on top is simpler to me. The fact that only tabs, not the entire browser, really appeals to me. Firefox crashes at least once a day for me.

That being said, i have a couple of problems with it. I don't like how you can't set it up where the cookies and browsing history are automatically erased when you close the browser. Chrome has the 'incognito' option, which imo, is annoying to have to click all the time.

I couldn't vote best browser for something that has only been out for two days, and still in it's very early stages...

Curious to hear from the hardcore Edge users here, especially if they have experience on other OS's, browsers, etc. Want to hear what the benefits are (in your opinion) of Edge over other browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc.). I'm talking ALL platforms here, basically from all browsers available, why did you choose Edge, and why are you sticking with it?

IE10 Chrome Safari Opera Firefox Benchmark topic for you ..

IE10: How does it really stack up? : on lucidchart.com : http://www.lucidchart.com/blog/2012/11/14/ie10-how-does-it-really-stack-up/

'What does this benchmark measure?
We designed our benchmark to determine if a new release of our software is going to slow down the user experience. Not only do we measure overall runtime, but we actually instrument a number of critical functions so that we know, for example, how many times a piece of text is re-rendered. If those numbers go up, then we know we?ve introduced a new bug that hurts performance.

We also use the benchmark to compare the performance of different browsers. With the recent release of Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8 and some initial reviews of its performance ( ...), we were interested to see how IE10 performance stacks up against the current versions of other browsers.'
Benchmark results simple:

Firefox: crashed
Opera: 663 seconds
Safari: 635
IE: 246
Chrome: 216
- lower is better ..

when trying to download any of the above, on either of my computers, one running vista, one running 7, I get issues with either corrupted files, or unknown publisher not letting me install it. any idea on how to fix this? as downloading safari is the only way for me to fix a problem i have been having with netflix

Answer:Prblem installing Safari, Opera, and Chrome

So have you gotten your computer cleaned up with the AV software recommended in another thread? and have you recognized the importance of a limited account with a strong password for the admin and limited.

If you don't fix whatever is causing this corruption in the 1st place, and set your self up with some protection, I suspect eventually you will lose everything on the computer, or have to go through some serious hoops to recover them and the OS.

When you go out in cold weather you wear a coat and gloves, do get what I and others have tried to point out to you?

Ok. This is the limited experience I have with these browsers.
IE8 - Seems to do just fine. Oh lord, MS kills me.
Opera - I had Opera Mini on my blackberry, and I am currently checking to see if it will work on the Samsung Blackjack II. Does anyone have input on the functionality of Opera 10 in contrast to IE8.
Safari - I ran this on a macbook I had, and I have to say I enjoyed the layout and functions. Is it much different running on XP?
Firefox - I want to slay Mozilla... It reminds me of going to a website, viewing at HTML, changing Icons and then selling it as your own.

Ultimately I want something functional with all of my e-mail accounts, Ebay Selling/Buying, Paypal transactions, Gaming Guides (You know you play them too) and honestly, It wouldn't hurt to have a good new's feed or weather feed for my area. Please let me know which I should investigate.

I got this from TweakXP.com so don't give me any crap about it!!!

It looks like the alternative browers users are switching to because they thought they were more secure and exploit free are not as secure as we thought.

According to a paper recently published by Eric Johanson of the Shmoo Group, users on most Mozilla-based browsers (Firefox 1.0, Camino .8.5, Mozilla 1.6, etc), Safari 1.2.5, Opera 7.54, Omniweb 5 are victim to a complex International Domain Name [IDN] spoof.

This new attack allows an attacker/phisher to spoof the domain/URLs of businesses. Every recent gecko/khtml based browser implements IDN (which is just about every browser except for Internet Explorer). The Smoo Group have created a proof of concept where the links are directed at "http://www.pаypal.com/", which the browsers punycode handlers render as www.xn--pypal-4ve.com.

According to the group there is however an easy to way to detect you're under a spoof attack, cut & paste the url you are accessing into notepad or some other
tool (under OSX, paste into a terminal window) which will allow you to view what character set/pagecode the string is in. You can also view the details of the SSL cert etc.

You can disable IDN support in Mozilla products by setting 'network.enableIDN' to false. There is no known workaround for Opera or Safari. Vendor responses have been varied with VeriSign and Apple failing to respond but Opera believing they have correctly implemented IDN, ... Read more

Hello, I'm having some problems with my internet browsers (Firefox, Opera, and Safari). Let me tell you what happened. So I was reading manga on onemanga.com when suddenly Firefox froze. I didn't know why, so I just restarted it, but it didn't work. I tried restarting the computer but no luck. So I decided to download Safari and Opera to see if things would work out. But no. Later I noticed that my browsers freeze when visiting sites with flash (I'm not really sure about this though). I tried reinstalling Adobe Flash and Firefox, but it didn't work either. When I disabled plugins in Safari, this browser stopped freezing when visiting sites. I scanned my computer with Symantec Anti-Virus but didn't find anything.I'm using Windows XP (SP 1), with 1 GB RAM, and I still have about 80GB of free space in my hard disk. So, can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to fix it? Thank you!

Hello, hopefully I have enough info here...my Internet Explorer won't run, and I can't open any other things that have IE as a default browser when opening a new window (eg. access Hotmail through MSN Messenger). Every now and then it WILL open, but I only get an error message saying it can't read memory 1000123b. And then in any other browser, all search engine results direct me to another random address (everything from porn to computer repair), but only when I click them the first time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, First off thank you for taking the time to look into this and offer any possible insights/fixes to my problem. It all started off when Firefox started having popups, then moved on to when Firefox would no longer open at all. I tried downloading Google Chrome, which then kept giving me failure to connect notices, I tried Safari which ended up giving me the same error. Finally I tried Internet Explorer which is working, but is drastically slow, and occasionally giving me random pop ups. I thought about rebuilding my computer, but I have a lot of work on here, and it would take forever to back everything up. Is there any possible way I can fix this? Also my hard drive is a small 160gb, and its almost full. However, I've uninstalled virtually everything I can think of, and it's still almost full, is there a program that gets rid of things that are using up space they dont need? Like for instance when you use the Recycle bin, it deletes it, but its still there until it is written over. Again, Thank you for any help or insight you can offer.

Sincerely,
Jared

Accuvant recently did a study comparing the security of IE, Chrome, and Firefox. Safari was not included in this study. Is there a security study that compares the 4 browsers - IE, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari?

Answer:Most secure browser: IE, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari?

In my humble opinion it's not the security of one browser versus another. It is the person utilizing the browser and them using safe browsing practices.

Hi All,

On 11 September 2014, Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explore browsers stopped working, all due to connection problems that I was not able to identify. Now only Safari works.

Internet Explorer displays simply: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

This is an old 32-bit Windows XP (that I soon want to upgrade to Windows 8.1), and I run Bitdefender Total Security in Autopilot mode with the Bitdefender firewall ON. When I checked Windows firewall it was OFF, I tried turning it on, but it didn't any difference, so I turned it OFF again.

I tried Windows Fix It, but the problem remained.

Our broadband internet and phone service provider is Sky (UK), and our landline phone works fine.

I think I might have become affected by some virus or malware or spyware last year, when I downloaded The KMPlayer and IrfanView from one of the FREE sites (cnet.com and something like "gorilla software"), that I did not know would install other free stuff on my computer that would take ages to remove (and I'm not sure if I managed their complete removal).
Please help... thanks!

I am running XP Home SP3 on an HP Mini. IE8, Google Chrome, and Safari all display the "webpage not available" error when trying to browse the internet. The interesting thing is that Firefox is able to connect to and display websites, the wireless network is strong and connected, and all other computers connected to the network exhibit no connetivity problems.

I believe the problem may have something to do with the Mini's recent infection with Antivirus Soft. AntiVirus Soft is a fake anti-virus program scam that blocks all executables from running, displays bogus warnings and popups, and only allows IE to navigate to Antivirus Soft's scam website.

Yesterday I followed some step by step directions to manually remove AntiVirus Soft's processes, directories, files and registry entries. Upon restart, Antivirus Soft appears to be gone, however I am now strangely limited to Firefox only browsing.

Any ideas how to reestablish full browser capabilities?

Answer:Chrome, IE8, Safari unable to connect, but Firefox can.

I seem to be experiencing the same problem as the OP! It is quite peculiar indeed being able to only access Firefox...

Anyone who might be able to solve this weirdness??

Thank you

As reported by Engadget:

That didn't take long. One day into the Pwn2Own hacking competition at CanSecWest and already Apple, Microsoft, and Mozilla have been sent packing to their respective labs to work on security issues in their browsers. In a repeat performance, Charlie Miller pocketed a $5,000 cash prize and a fully-patched MacBook by splitting it wide, and gaining full control of the device after a user clicked on his malicious link. Another white-hatter by the name Nils (pictured) toppled Internet Explorer 8 running on a Windows 7 laptop -- again, the five grand and compromised VAIO P laptop are now his to keep as compensation for turning over the malicious code. So much for "protection that no other browser can match," eh Mr. Ballmer? Nils then demonstrated a second Safari exploit before hacking Firefox later in the afternoon netting him a cool $15k by the close of day one. Only Google's Chrome was left unscathed -- Opera isn't part of the contest. This year's contest will also offer a $10,000 prize for every vulnerability successfully exploited in Windows Mobile, Android, Symbian, and the iPhone and BlackBerry OSes. In other words: this contest that runs through Friday isn't over by any stretch.Click to expand...

Problem as noted in the title. Using Windows XP SP2 on approx. 3 year old Compaq PC. Firefox was working a couple days ago, then would not open, with the error mesage "The instruction at "0x0159001c" referenced memory at "0x0159001c". The memory could not be "written"." I downloaded both Google Chrome and Apple's Safari to try and get online. Chrome won't work at all, and Safari gives me the exact error message that Firefox does. Strangely, Opera is working just fine, its what I'm using now to post this.

I suppose at this point I should mention recently (within the past week) I've had Google searches being redirected. I generally used a workaround or another search engine, thinking I would eventually find the problem with a cleanup or a scan.

Ran MBAM first thing this morning, haven't done anything else. Here is the most recent log:

Ok a few interesting notes.. and questions.

I've noticed in FF3 beta 4, it is REALLY fast. Youtube videos load so much faster. In fact, I like everything about it - except one thing. I notice abnormally high CPU usage. I noticed this in FF2 as well. With three tabs open - yahoo, msn, and google, I notice hovering around 20-30% cpu usage. When I minimize it is still this high. When I close FF, it goes back down to the normal 4/5%. In Opera, it is around 6% with the same tabs open.
With youtube open FF takes up about 40% of my cpu.
Opera 9.26
This is a great browser and also very fast. However, for some reason youtube videos will not play. It will just get stuck on that circle of dots forever, and never play the video. I've been fussing around with the preferences.; The only things I changed were increasing the cache, and increasing total connections to 64.

Appreciate any help from anyone who's used both these browsers and can give advice,

Thanks

The evolution of Internet Explorer has brought the next iteration of the proprietary browser from Microsoft closer to rivals from Mozilla, Google, Apple and Opera, while taking it further from predecessors such as IE7 and IE6. This is the Redmond company doing its best to embrace the other side of the barricade in terms of modern web-standard support, interoperability and same markup. Internet Explorer 9 will be on par with rivals such as Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari, and will bridge the interoperability gap that separated releases such as IE7 and IE6 from competitive browsers.

As a direct consequence of this, Dean Hachamovitch, general manager, Internet Explorer, asked developers to not treat IE9 differently from how they would treat Firefox, Chrome or Opera, but definitely different from IE7, for example.

In the browser race, Internet Explorer 8 is outrunning its rivals, without breaking a sweat. It?s always interesting to insist on certain statistics in order to get a deeper perspective, and browser-market data certainly offers the chance for insights beyond an initial interpretation. Earlier this month, Internet metrics company Net Applications released its monthly overview of the browser?s evolution in terms of usage share, harvesting and compiling info from approximately 160 million visitors per month.

Internet Explorer 8 continues to be the most used browser worldwide, a position it grabbed in January 2010, and that it is unlikely to lose anytime soon. IE8 currently accounts for 24.66% of the browser market, benefitting from a growth rate of no less than 1.08% in April 2010. At the start of this year, IE8 dethroned IE6, to grab the no.1 spot with a share of 22.37%, at that time, as opposed to IE6?s 20.00%. Still, Microsoft will need some fresh browser blood (I?m thinking IE9) to turn things around as far as the overall browser market is concerned, as the usage share of all IE versions continues to decrease.

Mozilla announced the plans on their blog: We are announcing some major upcoming changes to Firefox add-ons. Our add-on ecosystem has evolved through incremental, organic growth over the years, but there are some modernizations to Firefox that require some foundational changes to support:

Taking advantage of new technologies like Electrolysis and Servo

Protecting users from spyware and adware

Shortening the time it takes to review add-ons

To help the add-on development community understand how we will enable these improvements, we are making four related announcements today:
We are implementing a new extension API, called WebExtensions?largely compatible with the model used by Chrome and Opera?to make it easier to develop extensions across multiple browsers.

A safer, faster, multi-process version of Firefox is coming soon with Electrolysis; we need developers to ensure their Firefox add-ons will be compatible with it.

To ensure third-party extensions provide customization without sacrificing security, performance or exposing users to malware, we will require all extensions to be validated and signed by Mozilla starting in Firefox 41, which will be released on September 22nd 2015.

We have decided on an approximate timeline for the deprecation of XPCOM- and XUL-based add-ons.

For our add-on development community, these changes will bring benefits, like greater cross-browser add-on compatibility, but will also require redevelopment of a number ... Read more

Here is some background...

A few days ago I noticed that Firefox began to redirect. After a little testing I noticed that EVERY browser redirects. The redirects seems to happen when I am searching google or bing. The redirects also sometimes happen when I am browsing normally.

I have tried the following AVs
- MalwareBytes
- AVG
- Spybot S&D
- Avast
- Norton

I have also run
- CCleaner
- Reg Mechanic

All have been run in both safe mode, and in normal mode. The virus scanners found nothing, and the problem continued.

I have uninstalled all but one (Malwarebytes) to prevent conflicts.

More steps I have taken
- Uninstall firefox (and deleted pertaining folders)
- Flushed dns
- Ensured host files were clean (they were)

I have also run HJT and Combofix. The logs are as follows.

HJT

Internet Explorer 9 cannot get here soon enough, as Microsoft certainly needs a breath of fresh air in the browser race. The Redmond company has seen its share of the browser market drop constantly from month to month over the past years, and with the new open source browser from Google making headway competition, Internet Explorer?s dominance continues to be eroded. There?s no telling what impact IE9 will have exactly on IE?s overall share of the browser market, especially after IE8 failed to stop users converting to rival browsers.

But then again, IE9 will be a new Internet Explorer altogether, a sort of IE on steroids, with a new JavaScript engine, modern web standards support, and hardware-acceleration capabilities. It?s safe to say, after the advent of the Platform Preview release, that the fully fledged Internet Explorer release has excellent chances to win back the hearts and minds of users and developers.

I'll still be far more interested in taking a close look at the IE 9 beta once available! Presently Chrome is simply the "new kid on the block" so to speak while the things I'm waiting to see are what improvements will have been made in the version of IE as any of the new features.

Being the newly introduced browser however many are leaping at it presently for a cnange from the other alternates besides IE alone explaining the large drop percentage wise being seen. Yet the report goes on to show that the last three versions of IE 6, 7, 8 continue to see the largest use overall.

Hi,

I am not sure what is wrong with my browser or whether any of this is caused by a virus. My internet was working fine yesterday downloading at about 159 KB/s but now everything is downloading at less than 70 KB/s. This all happened when I suddenly lost the dsl connection and upon reconnect, everything I download is extremely slow. I have tried resetting the modem and setting up a new network connection but still the same result. I have scanned the computer using MBAM, Superantispyware, Avast, and Avira but all have shown up negative for viruses. My DSL provider performed a line test and said the line was fully operating and functional. I was able to confirm that because when I downloaded a file via utorrent, it reached speeds in excess of 145 KB/s. I also tried downloading links via orbit downloader and it too reaches speeds beyond 145 KB/s. However, whenever I try downloading anything using Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and IE directly, it downloads at 70 KB/s or less like it is either being blocked or filtered through something and the speed continually decreases little by little. I have also disabled the Avira antivirus webguard but it didn't change. I am running Windows Vista Home Edition and this problem occurs in Chrome, IE, Firefox, and Opera. I also can't find any programs running in the background that may be slowing the connection. Also, my dsl is connected directly from the phone line jack to the modem and straight to the laptop and there is no router.

Long have browser vendors such as Mozilla, Google, Safari and Opera fought over which browser is the fastest in the world with no real contest from Microsoft. This has all changed today, with the latest developer preview, Internet Explorer 9 claims the no. 1 spot in the Webkit Sunspider JavaScript microbenchmark.

The Redmond company just released the seventh Platform Preview of IE9, and the Build is faster that Chrome 8.0 Beta, Opera 11 Alpha, Opera 10.63, Chrome 7.0, Firefox 4.0 Beta 7, Safari 5.0.2 and Firefox 3.6.

But although this is a first for the software giant, Microsoft is not really celebrating. And the reason has been stated time and again by Dean Hachamovitch, Corporate Vice President, Internet Explorer, and other members of the IE team.

No benchmark, and certainly no microbenchmark, Webkit Sunspider included, is capable of reflecting the actual performance of IE9 or rival browsers. Instead, SunSpider is focused on a single aspect, namely JavaScript.

Hello, first off thanks for giving my problem your time and consideration. Anyways, it all started when chrome started acting funny on my laptop. One day I got a strange "page not found" error on chrome and when I tried opening it up again it actually opened up as an internet explorer window, the address that it tries to load is: http://"c/Documents and Settings/Ow...on Data/Google/Chrome/Application/chrome.exe" (also had a similar type address when I tried with Opera), and then would immediately close. I then tried to use firefox, which would stay open for about a minute or so and then crash and now crashes straight away. At the time I had an older version of internet explorer, not version 8, that still worked. However, in my attempts to fix the problem I installed all my windows updates that I had been neglecting, which included Internet Explorer 8, and now I'm having the same problem with that browser. Admittedly, I had no antivirus software installed at the time and simply relied on spybot s&d and adaware. I have a HP and Windows 7 Pro. Five days ago I got an error on google chrome saying Error 10 (net::ERR_ACCESS_DENIED). I thought that it would go back to normal the next day so I just used IE (which I don't really like cause it always crashes). The next day Chrome still didn't work, so I decided to see if Firefox or Opera worked and of course they didn't. I have been looking in forums for 3 days and I have tried almost everything. I know that it's not a virus, firewall isn't blocking any of them, and the proxy is also not the problem. I have also done a system recovery to the day before Chrome stopped working and it still won't work. HELP!!

I've been an avid user of Google for a long time, and just recently began searching with bing as well when I need to find something, especially images or video, since Bing seems to be better at that.
I use both Firefox and Opera daily on my desktop, and I realized that Bing's Image Search pages look 100% different when viewed on Opera.
When viewed with Firefox or Chrome, Bing Image search has full options for filtering images, size/type/color/layout/people/etc...
But when viewed with Opera, none of that is available. It is a simple page of just image results, with a search bar at the top a footer at the bottom. Nothing more. Any ideas? I would like to use the full-featured search in Opera if possible.

Answer:Why does bing image search look different in opera than firefox and chrome?

I don't have opera installed, so cannot test, but it sounds like opera is triggering the mobile version of the page.
When I used to use opera, it used to have lots of settings that would help you conserve your data, and viewing mobile version of a web page was one of them.

I can not get IE10 to work or any of the following browsers to work - Opera, Chrome and Firefox - they start up but hang and can't access the Internet. I have Download Accellerator Plus (DAP) loaded on my Windows 7 PC and its browser can access the Internet. This all started after I was trying to cure a problem with Windows Live Mail - it had 0c80041161 error. I tried everything I could find on the internet to fix the problem. In the end I decided to do a repair install of Windows 7 - I did it but ever since my browsers wont work. I can still get Windows 7 updates and MSE updates. The PC also connects and works to my LAN router, LAN storage and LAN Printer. I have uninstalled all Windows Live Programs after trying to do a repair a few times. I have uninstalled DAP and uninstalled IE10 but still no success - no browser works including IE8 now. From Command Prompt I can ping Internet Servers and get responses. I can also FTP to servers. My backup software stills backups up PC to my NAS.

The problem has to be something common to all browsers with how they connect to network.

Any help or suggestions please.

Hi,
IE8 hangs when trying to access any website, saying "Website found...". It then pegs the CPU at over 90% and stays there.
I can open IE in safe mode, but when I attempt to access any site the same thing happens.

New installations of Firefox and Opera just immediately peg the CPU at over 90% and don't even display a frame.

Chrome works fine.

I've been trying to find out what is going on for about 3 weeks and am stuck.

What I have tried:
Starting without addons (as above),
Resetting IE8 to defaults,
Disabling (in startup) all antivirus and firewall (avg free edition and windows firewall),
Clean boot (MS services only)
Full scans with avg, MalwareBytes, Kaspersky (nothing found)

Hello, first off thanks for giving my problem your time and consideration. Anyways, it all started when chrome started acting funny on my laptop. One day I got a strange "page not found" error on chrome and when I tried opening it up again it actually opened up as an internet explorer window, the address that it tries to load is: http://%22c/Documents%20and%20Settin.../chrome.exe%22 (also had a similar type address when I tried with Opera), and then would immediately close. Afterwards though I downloaded both microsoft forefront, through my university, and Kasperksy antivirus. Both of these scanners found numerous trojans but then removed them. However, after all my efforts my browser problem still remains and now I just have a computer slowed down by a million antivirus/antispyware programs! Please help! I've attached the dds.txt, attach.txt and ark.txt. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling chrome and firefox several times to no avail, I currently have ... Read more

Hi Everyone,

Hope you won't mind helping me to resolve this problem I'm having with my DSL speed. I run Windows Vista and have 1.5 MB/s DSL. My modem is directly connected to the phonejack and the ethernet cable goes directly to my laptop. I do not have a router.

My internet download speed has suddenly slowed to a crawl. Just yesterday, it was downloading at a very consistent 157 KB/s. Then today, It started downloading very fast at 159 KB/s, then I watched it systematically drop all the way down to 77 KB/s and continue to go down. I already contacted my ISP Earthlink and they performed a line test but said there was nothing wrong with the line and that my modem was also functioning properly. I already ran 3 antivirus sweeps and all came out clear. Malwarebytes, Avira 2011, and Superantispyware all came out negative. I even temporarily disabled Avira Antivirus but the downloading only gets slower and slower until I can't even load a regular webpage or run a line test on 2Wire.com, speedtest.net, or speakeasy.net.

I also cleaned all the temporary files and deleted all browsing data on Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and IE but nothing seems to work.

PLEASE HELP!!! Your assistance is greatly appreciated!!!
Best regards!!!

Answer:Unable to access internet via Chrome, IE, Firefox, or Opera

Hi Everyone,

Hope you won't mind helping me to resolve this problem I'm having. Just yesterday, my browsers were all working fine and downloading at 157 KB/s. Today, I start off at 158 KB/s then watch it drop until it is down to 3 or 4 KB/s. I can no longer run any DSL line speed tests. Most pages won't load at all. Download becomes randomly interrupted. I called my DSL ISP Earthlink and they performed a line test and said all was fine at 1.5 MBps and that my modem was also find. I ran both malwarebytes and Avira but both were negative. However, my speed is so slow that I cannot update any of my antivirus software at all. I can't load most flash pages. I also get periodic pop-ups that Web Of Trust blocks and says are sites rated poor. I virtually have no internet speed whatsoever and can't even download a small 3 MB test file from mediafire because each time I click the download link and select save link as, either the file DL's at 3 KB/s or it gives me a download.htm page.

I suspect that some sort of malware or virus has infected my computer and prevents me from downloading anything at all by crippling my download speed.

Please help me resolve this problem. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Best regards!!!

BrowserEfficiencyTest is a Selenium WebDriver based web browser test automation project written in C#. It allows you to run through common tasks done in browsers (look through a Facebook feed, go through some emails, browse the news) done in multiple tabs, and uses Windows Performance Recorder to measure how much power, CPU, or other resources were used in order to accomplish those tasks. It currently supports:

Microsoft Edge

IE9 PP7 vs. Firefox 4.0 Beta 7 vs. Chrome 9.0 Canary ? Hardware Acceleration
Microsoft has been touting the advantage of best in breed hardware acceleration for Internet Explorer 9 over rival browsers, and rightly so, with the latest development milestone of IE9 offering additional proof that the next generation of IE does a better job at leveraging the GPU compared to the next versions of Firefox and Google Chrome.

IE9 Platform Preview 7 is now available for download, and with the release, the IE team has also made available new tests on the IE Test Drive Center.

Early adopters should really grab IE9 PP7 and see what the browser has to offer when it comes down taking advantage of the GPU not just for HTML5 but also for compiled JavaScript.

Testers need only a copy of IE9 PP7, which will install alongside the IE9 Beta released in mid-September 2010, and three new tests from the software giant, Galactic, HTML5 Sudoku and Shakespeare?s Tag Cloud.

According to Dean Hachamovitch, Corporate Vice President IE, when it put together the new IE9 tests, the IE team found inspiration in real world scenarios.

My Opera - When do you think Opera Mini will be available on the iPhone? was officially submitted to the Apple iPhone App store on Mar 23. A select few first saw it at Mobile World Congress 2010 in February. Now, the “fast like a rocket” browser is taking its first big step towards giving users a new way to browse on the iPhone.
Early reviews of Opera Mini for iPhone praised the sheer browsing speed, powering through Web pages up to six times faster than Safari. Due to server-side rendering, Opera Mini compresses data by up to 90 percent before sending it to the phone, resulting in rapid page loading and more Web per MB for the end user. Those familiar with iPhone roaming charges will relish Opera Mini’s ability to deliver more for less, giving users the Web they want quickly, without, the high costs.

Opera Press Release But I don't think they will accept their application, Apple will go with Safari only. Checkout this counter

Answer:Will Opera Mini beat Safari on iPhone

I Hope Opera will get the nod if not I'm sure it will be available for jailbroken iPhones. I have not yet jailbroken mine but I will seriously consider doing so just to have Opera as my browser.
Apple should learn from the mistakes MSFT made with IE and hope Opera and others don't go to the EU and cry a monopoly and demand a browser ballot too.
I guess we will have an answer from Apple as early as this coming Monday, it's in no ones interest for this to drag on.

I've posted this same topic in the networking forum but I think this subforum might be better. Mods can delete the other one.

Yesterday I read about a new firmware update for my Samsung Galaxy S3, and I decided to install Kies on my laptop so I could get it (for many Galaxy S3 users in the Netherlands that day, Over The Air updates didn't work).

First I tried the browser version of Kies, saw nothing about updates so I downloaded and installed Samsung Kies, but that didn't work either. I watched a help video inside the program which was run with Java (I had to install that too, yet I believed I already had it, but I clicked ok anyway)

I didn't have my USB cable with me to connect my phone to the program and it didn't work via wireless either. So I uninstalled it and tried Kies Mini, that didn't work either so I uninstalled that one too, and then had to reboot.

Wanting to resume my work on a website, I wanted to see how it looked in Chrome, Firefox and IE but noticed NONE of them start up. The process starts and stops in half a second.

Here's a list of things I tried:

1. System Restore up to the point of AFTER installing Samsung Kies (unfortunately I couldn't go back any further)
2. Uninstalled Chrome, Firefox, Samsung Kies, Kies Mini and Java.
3. Reinstalled Chrome, Firefox, Samsung Kies, Kies Mini and Java.
3. Ran Spybot Search and Destroy, found nothing big, no trojans or anything.
4. Deleted as many mentions of the keywords Chrome, Firefox and Kies in... Read more

Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Opera: which one is the most powerful browser? As the window to your online world, your browser is probably one of the most important programs you have on your computer. For this reason, we decided to put the top four to the test to see how they stack up against each other.
Unsurprisingly, not all browsers are created equally. Some have more experience, like Internet Explorer, others are open source, like Firefox, some are sponsored, like Google Chrome, while some are shy, like Opera. To properly compare these browsers, we did an objective test in a controlled environment.

We used a computer with Windows 7 (which is why we excluded Safari from the list), and established criteria to define the winners: speed, memory usage, and web performance (speed and efficiency). Here, the tests are strictly based on objective rather than subjective criteria, because at the end of the day, personal taste always comes into play when choosing your browser.

For a full explanation of exactly how we carried out our tests, check out the complete methodology we used for the browser comparison.

To make it even easier, consider each browser like a car: each one serves the same purpose, but some are more suitable than others depending on what you need it for. You wouldn't use a Range Rover to drive around a race track, just like you wouldn't use a Lamborghini for off-roading.

With this analogy in mind, let's see how the browsers stack up in ... Read more

Well, I have it installed now on Windows XP. It tries to have a more Windows-ish look in the main browser window (title bar color, etc) but it won't function for me since the proxy server issues persist.

So, I'll use it for local web page testing only.

Hi;
I just installed Apple's Safari for Windows Beat.
It looks good, and is faster than Firefox 2.x, which I have been using for about a year, but I am seeing some strange effects with black text on a white page.
Some characters appear to have colored edges, especially with the default font (Times New Roman).
I changed to Courrier New and the issue appears to be lessened, but not gone.
I have not noticed this problem when browsing with Firefox or IE 7.

It seems odd to me that a problem like this could be browser specific, since Windows uses the same fonts for all apps.

Perhaps this is just my imagination?

I am running a Viewsonic VX 2000 on a BFG NVidia GeForce 6800.

I don't expect that there are many Windows users of Safari so far, since the first Windows version is a Beta.

I am developing web pages in Dreamweaver, and installed Safari to test my pages on one more browser.

Ask Mozilla co-founder Mike Shaver what he thinks about Ian Hixie?s Acid3 test and he?ll give you an ear full. On his blog today Shaver defended the Mozilla Firefox team as they watched both Opera and Safari/WebKit apparently achieve a 100% pass rate Wednesday.Ian?s Acid 3, unlike its predecessors, is not about establishing a baseline of useful web capabilities. It?s quite explicitly about making browser developers jump ? Ian specifically sought out tests that were broken in WebKit, Opera, and Gecko, perhaps out of a twisted attempt at fairness.
A review of Hixie?s criteria, however, shows that tests were required to not crash current browser versions and be justifiable using only web standards.
Shaver also takes issue with Acid3?s use of only older well-established standards. ?I think that such a test,? he writes, ?should be built on more long-term criteria than lining up the starting blocks for a developer sprint.? Acid3 doesn?t test the areas that are hard to work around, says Shaver. ?If Hixie could stomach digging around in the SVG specification I wish he?d spent his time on things like filters or even colour profiles.?
Mozilla developer Rob Sayre concurred, calling Acid3 ?worthless? and WebKit?s efforts to pass ?shameful?:I was looking over the spreadsheet covering Mozilla?s Acid3 failures, and it struck me that very few of the fixes would substantially improve the Web or the browser. They are bugs and they will be fixed (except maybe SMIL? wtf?), but they don?t impa... Read more

Well, I did a fresh install of 7100 on my laptop along with Lenovo's ATI Radeon 7500 drivers.

I installed all my other browsers (I have IE8, FF3, Safari4b, and Chrome) and they all work, except Safari. When I double-click on Safari, around 3-5 seconds later I get the great BSOD.

Here's what it says:

Code:
ati3duag.dll

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

STOP: 0x00000050 (0xFFFFFFFE, 0x00000000, 0x8B9D6B91, 0x00000000)

ati3duag.dll - Address 8B9D6B91 base at 8B9C0000 Datestamp 45c9470b
Any ideas on why this is occuring? I thought it was a bug earlier so I reinstalled everything and it's the same thing every time.

EDIT: Safari 3.2.2 works perfectly.

Answer:Safari 4.0 Beta + Radeon 7500 = BSOD

After some investigating, it was the drivers.

I used the drivers from the IBM site. I then switched to the Catalyst 6.2 drivers here and it works perfectly.

Someone I know has been having problems with safari and google chrome. Every time they press the "2" key on Chrome and Safari, it takes them to youtube. Anyone have any suggestions as to why they are having this problem? Their anti-virus says everything is fine. Their operating system is windows 7, the computer is an HP Pavilion.

Answer:Safari and chrome glitch.

Sounds like a key-bind has been set up? It happens to BOTH browsers though? Any other browsers affected?

Answer:[SOLVED] google chrome & Safari

Try this with Google Chrome,.. I can't guarantee it but it's worth a try.

Click the spanner symbol at top right corner of Google Chrome browser. Then click "options" > "under the hood" tab > "change proxy settings" > "Lan settings" > and check the box, "automatically detect settings" > OK

I'm having a very strange browser issue that I can't seem to figure out. I'm unsure if its relevant, but I was using Internet Explorer for a few years before I got a nasty virus. (It was a few years ago so I can't remember what virus it was exactly) I downloaded Malware bytes and it removed the virus but Internet explorer was always glitchy after so I started to use Safari without any problems.

Very recently after a Windows update, Safari stopped working. When viewing the task manager it would show safari.exe running but the window would not open at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times but nothing changed. So I downloaded Firefox. Firefox works but keeps crashing constantly, sometimes every few minutes. I decided to try Google Chrome and I was suprised to see after installing it does not open at all, much like Safari except I don't even see it in the task manager.

I'm starting to become so frustrated because any search I do for Safari or Google Chrome not working ends up being a problem with internet connection-- which I don't have. I've run Malware Bytes multiple times and its found nothing. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

*Im using Windows XP

Nine weeks after a hacker demonstrated how to spoof authentication certificates for virtually any website on the internet, users of Internet Explorer and many other applications remain susceptible because Microsoft hasn't patched the underlying vulnerability.
The bug, which resides in an application programming interface known as CryptoAPI, causes IE and other applications that rely on the code to be tricked by fraudulent secure sockets layer certificates. It can be exploited to impersonate websites, virtual private networks, and email servers by adding a null character to the prefix of an address in a legitimate SSL credential.

I have been using Opera 9 Preview for some time now. I do not recommend it as a primary browser, unless you want to check out the new features. It has many bugs.

Hi,
I am so utterly frustrated with the Geolocationing occuring in several browsers, at least I think it is called Geolocationing. For instance, if typing www.google.com it still brings me to www.google.se all the time. I have the option of going to google.com from there but still. Doing that several times a day is feeling very long and whiny...

Same with pages like hotels.com, tripadvisor... etc and various pages. Google translate always sets the target language to Swedish as default, even if I go to translate.google.com...

So is there any way in turning this off? Any plug-in? Any better browser than Safari for instance?

It might sound like an easy task to just "not bother" but it frustrates me, especially in Safari, as I have to reload and go a long way around which is more annoying in a phone than on a PC....

Okay, so I've been having some computer/internet problems lately, but that's only because someone messed with the router, it's completely fixed now and we have a good new NETGEAR router.
Now I have a good internet connection and all (obviously, because I'm posting this right now) but Google Chrome and Internet Explorer are not working.

Google Chrome- Doesn't load any web pages and just shows an error message like this "Invalid Http Request header"

Internet Explorer- I forgot what the error message was but it's same as google chrome besides what it says. IE on my computer takes a looooong time to start up, so I only want to start it up if absolutely necessary.

Safari- Just doesn't load at all.

Rockmelt- works perfectly fine!

So as you can see, the rockmelt browser works fine, and I'm using it right now. But I like to use google chrome and sometimes safari. If the problem can't be resolved, I'll still settle for rockmelt, but I'd like to fix Google Chrome.

Thanks.
