Taskbar, only icon when one window, icon+label when multiple windows?

Question: Taskbar, only icon when one window, icon+label when multiple windows?

I don't want to combine my windows, but when i have only one window open in any program, i know what it is and don't need to see the label as that makes the whole taskbar filled up pretty fast.
Is there a way to hide labels when there is one window open, and show labels when having multiple windows?
I've tried googling it but it doesn't seem like it is possible with some program either.

Preferred Solution: Taskbar, only icon when one window, icon+label when multiple windows?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Before an update earlier this week, when I hovered over the Edge icon on my taskbar and I had multiple windows open, it would show me previews of all the windows I had open. It now no longer does this but now it says at the top of the preview of the one window that does open it says " Edge and 1 more page". Wondering if anyone else has seen this and if there is aa way to recover back to previous way. Outlook does still show multiple windows open when hovering over that icon. Thanks for you help.

Hi, all of a sudden and for no reason, various icons have stopped loading for both the programs and files used by these programs:

The programs still work fine but I would like to have the icons back.
This seems to be a problem that many people are having but I can find no definite solution.

Any ideas?

I'm having a big problem. I screwed something up with my taskbar and I can't undo it.

I logged on as usual. An annoying message popped up at the lower right corner of the desktop, above, not in, the taskbar, alerting me to something I should download and install that I have no intention of downloading and installing. In the past, each time I've logged on and this message has appeared, I have simply clicked on "cancel" or just clicked the X at its upper right corner. But this time, I must have taken leave of my senses! Instead of just right clicking the X in its right corner, I clicked something else on it and a message window popped up. That message window advised me to either "download" the irrelevant auxiliary toolbar I have no need of and will not download and install, or click "cancel". But it also offered me the chance to click a checkbox next to "do not show this message again on taskbar". At least that's what I recall it said. So I clicked on that, in an attempt to keep it from popping up every time I logged on (removing the annoying message from the action center each time it popped up upon logon never had the effect of preventing it from popping up again the next time I logged on, which is why I tried this "do not show ..." choice this time).

But once I did that, I found I am no longer able to make two things work on my desktop taskbar with the customary left clicks.

It no longer does ... Read more

Hello and welcome to the tenforums

Have you done a restart to see if this sorts out the problem? (Note: a Restart does not use the hybrid shutdown process but instead does a full shutdown and restart)

Next thing to try is a repair of the system files: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2895-sfc-command-run-windows-10-a.html

I installed a program yesterday and pinned an icon onto my taskbar. I've noticed today that the icon has gone and has been replaced by the default windows icon (red, blue white). Even if I go into properties, change icon etc, nothing happens.
What can I do?
Thanks to whoever can offer suggestions.

At Windows 7, I created 3 program shortcuts which execute same executable. Then I changed icons for second shortcut and third shortcut. When I launched the executable from the second and third shortcut, the taskbar icon of the executable will be that of the shortcut icon instead of the executable MainForm icon. In XP and Vista, it will use MainForm icon in the taskbar. Is this the intended behaviour of Windows 7?

Hi - I'm running Windows 8 and for the last day or so, the windows icon, bottom left of the taskbar, is not working - it is there, but white - I'm sure it was yellow or so before, and it doesn't work. My windows key is working fine, but I've gotten used to the icon - especially if getting out of, say, a game and wanting to go back to the main screen. Also the right hand top hot key is also not working. What do I have to do to get these back again? I've tried cleaning the registry etc, - would it help to do a system restore?
Thanks

Later......Actually it seems to have sorted itself....after trying lots of things, I was doing an update, and got a message that there was a problem, and it was shutting down and rebooting. Anyhoooooo it seems to be working again. Now I know - if it happens again, I'll switch off and reboot! Wish I'd thought of that before.....

For some reason FireFox doesnt want me to use my own icon for it in the taskbar. ill change the icon, pin it to the taskbar, click the new icon and itll open up a new firefox default icon on the taskbar so there will be 2.

anyway around this?

Answer:FireFox Taskbar Icon, Makes Duplicate Taskbar Icon's

Let's fix the duplicate icon first, open Firefox from the pinned icon you have already after the second one opens up unpin the first one and pin the second one that should stop the duplicate icon.

Now the icon go to C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar then right-click on the Firefox shortcut click on properties make sure you're in the Shortcut tab and click on the Change Icon Button. After you open up Firefox again icon will revert back to the default icon because it opens up Firefox.exe you would have to change the icon in the .exe for a permanent change.

Hey everyone,

This is my first post on these forums so I apologize if this thread is not in the right section.

Anyways, here's my issue, and I'm sure it's one that's been raised before.

I'm using Windows 7 on a widescreen laptop and it is much more economical (space-wise) for me to put my taskbar on the side of the screen, i.e. vertically. However, after launching a few applications my taskbar becomes filled, and the icons are moved onto the next "page", with tiny white arrows allowing me to move between pages.

I want my icons to display in 2 (or more) columns so that I don't have to move between pages so often. When the taskbar is in a horizontal position at the bottom of the screen, I am able to drag it upwards, and the icons will automatically form 2 rows if they exceed the first row.

I want the same option for a vertical taskbar; however, when I drag the vertical taskbar, all it does is make existing icons longer (such that the icons simply contain ridiculous amounts of white space).

Is there a way to fix this? A program, a hack, anything? I REALLY don't want to go back to the horizontal taskbar because it makes my screen look really long (horizontally) and narrow (vertically).

Thanks for your help.

Note 1: I tried reinstating the quick-launch toolbar, something which I was never a big fan of, but it's an imperfect solution. The icons are either too large or too small. Would it kill Microsoft to add a "medium" icon size op... Read more

Answer:Vertical Taskbar, Multiple Icon Columns

How about this...I've been researching for a few days with no luck. It's a mess, but vertical columns can be created if you make a folder, add it as a toolbar, smallsize the icons if you want to. If you have a few, you can drag them to the right and then place them in vertical columns. Maybe someone more creative than me can make it look good, but at least there's possibly a way....

Hi everybody.

Just wanted to know: is there any way то change icon of open window in taskbar? I'm using openoffice writer and don't really like its default icon.

I've spent last 3 days trying to google it out. Something i realized:

1. It's not the icon of program
2. It's not the icon of pinned shortcut
3. It's not the icon of filetype

Would appreciate any kind of help.

P. S. Have another little question, don't want to start new thread. How do I pin shortcut to some folder in the taskbar? I mean, I tried to pin shortcut to desktop folder, but it just opens Explorer instead of folder window.

Up until yesterday, when I opened Firefox, a window opened and the icon in Windows (10) had a line under it. Now a second icon is created with a line under it.

If I click on the original icon, another window is opened. I've tried reinstalling the last version of Firefox with no luck.
I removed the pinned icon, opened the program and repinned it, which immediately resulted in a second app icon in the task bar.

Is there a setting in Firefox that changes this behavior? This only happens with FF (so far anyway).

I got both of these problems right after recovering from a virus, which leads me to thinking they may be connected.

My first problem is not being able to select the volume or network icons in the taskbar. Theyre both grayed out, and no fix on the internet has worked for it so far. Ive tried doing the registry edits and fixes, uninstalling and reinstalling the audio device driver, deleting the iconstreams in registry, all to no avail, nothing has seemed to work...

Also, my Alt+Tab no longer displays a preview on the windows minmized while im holding it down. it used to have this sort of "vistaish" and stylish format to it, and now it looks a lot like the classic windows alt+tab, and shows default icons for each window..it changed right after cleaning my pc up from a virus, im guessing something got messed up in the registry...

Ive searched all over the internet for solutions to these and so far nothing at all has worked, im getting desperate for help. Thanks.

Just recently, I cannot bring a task to the foreground by clicking it's icon in the taskbar. This used to work really well. Now if I click the icon, it flashes orange, but nothing else happens. This seems to happens with all windows.. file lists, openoffice shreadsheets, opera browser.. but .. mozilla seems to work fine, so maybe this is related to a mozilla setting ? I am running mozilla ESR 17.0.6 (downloaded from my company's approved application site). Also, in the past week I tried using an external projector to display on a conference room, could that be related ? I have windows7 professional, and pretty much up to date with fixes due to my company's pushing on/installing fixes automatically. Any help would be appreciated, this is quite annoying.
Thanks !

A few weeks ago I did something rather stupid and downloaded a file that contained a bunch of malware. I was able to get rid of it, I thought---at least a bunch of malware detectors weren't turning anything up. But I realize I'm still having problems. There's one that's only a minor annoyance---sometimes windows won't minimize the way they're supposed to (like, I'll be playing something in Media Player Classic in windowed mode, but when I click away on my browser, the MPC window does't minimize.

But now I am trying to play a game and finding a real annoyance. The screen, I don't know how to say it, "flickers" off for just a second without the game being interupted every time I click, and furthermore the taskbar icon seems to disappear only to be instantly replaced with another sliding icon. I tried a clean boot, but that didn't seem to work.

Answer:Taskbar Icon Constantly Reloading/Window Flickering with Application

If you did a Clean Boot and this didn't resolve this issue this means that the problem isn't related to a Service.

You need to make sure that this computer is not still infected.  I will request that this topic be moved to the Am I Infected forum where the proper tools can be used to make sure it is cleaned.

Hi Guys.

About 2 weeks ago the Explorer icon on the Taskbar where you can pin up to 12 shortcuts started randomly disappearing causing me to drag 'n drop them again. After about the 5th or 6th time of them disappearing and replacing them I am now only able to pin 4. I've installed no additional software during the period in which this error started appearing except a Windows Update released on June 10th, which I might add, the random disappearance of those Pinned icons had been happening. It wasn't until the 16th that it would no longer allow me to pin more than 4.

Does anyone here know where in the registry this setting is created so I can fix it to use 12 again instead of 4? I've searched the registry for Explorer Pinned, Taskbar Pinned, Taskbar Frequent, etc., all to no avail.

Here is a screenshot of what I'm speaking:

Before the 16th I could put 12 Pinned shortcuts and then they just stopped.

Thank you in advance.
Cole

I need help getting to the bottom of this, not sure why it's happening, or when it started happening, maybe a week ago...

I get a seemingly random icon flash on the taskbar for no more than a few miliseconds, so i checked
event viewer to track down what was happening and the only thing i can find is 2 events in the subcategory
Application that states the source as RestartManager
and the event ID as 10000 and 10001, these both appear every time the icon flashes on the taskbar

I think this issue is also causing fullscreen flash vids to show the taskbar and a loading circle on the cursor... also Battlefield 4 likes to get a black screen then when i alt-tab i'm back to the game without any crashing or any error besides this ominous
black screen

I'm running 8.1 legit

I have created a shortcut icon which takes me directly to my Online Banking Login page.
I would like to place this icon (an image of a padlock taken from windows icon cache) on the taskbar.
My problem is, when I drag the icon to the taskbar a popup asks me if I want to 'Pin to Internet Explorer'...this is the only option given.
If I drop the icon onto the taskbar it changes my 'Padlock' icon to that of Internet Explorer...Clicking on this IE icon still takes me to my Online Banking Login page but I find it confusing having an IE icon.

Does anyone know how I can have my 'Padlock' icon showing on the taskbar.

I made a bad mistake. I wanted to install Movie Maker but it comes packaged with Live something or other, and it includes Live Mail, the newest version. Now, I do not have Movie Maker, don't even ask! But I have a newer version of Live Mail which I dislike -- that ribbon!

Can I uninstall the Live software and reinstall the old Live Mail? This install window that pops up is very annoying and if I click cancel it still loads Live Mail. I saw a similar case some time ago when I opened MSN Messenger.

I have another issue with System Restore but I will post it separately.

Thanks

I think you can find versions of Movie Maker that have no connection at all with Live anything.

Movie Maker 6 from Vista works fine on Windows 7. You can find it on any Vista disk. Or maybe Google for Movie Maker 2.6.

Can you do a System Restore to a date prior to installing whatever you wish you hadn't?

I don't have any switches or buttons on my keyboard either that would allow me to enable or disable wireless internet.

As shown in this video (you might have to set the quality to 720p), you can switch on and off the drop shadows of your Windows 10 desktop icon labels.

However, after using the auto arrange snap window function (drag and drop any window to the left or right edge of your screen) the drop shadows are always on and cannot be switched off again. Only logging off and in again helps.

Can anyone reproduce this or knows how to fix it?

Answer:Desktop icon label drop shadows always on after split windows

Hi, Win 10 pro - can confirm I see that after using Snap. Normal function is restored if you restart explorer via the task manager.

Suggest you report it via the Feedback Hub app e.g.

http://www.thewindowsclub.com/drop-s...or-icon-labels
- gives a relevant registry key; maybe it can be 'fixed' or worked around using that.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit and cannot change the colors of the labels of the desktop icons. There is not sufficient contrast in the default font to read them easily. Welcome to Seven Forums Asker24. Iconoid may work, even if have to run under compatibility mode, worth a try.

Something that may help is to turn drop shadows off:

Wish I had a better title, but I wasn't sure how to word this.

Basically what's happening is I have 2 instances of Firefox (different versions and different folder locations) and one of the instances is not opening where it's icon location is.

Example Screenshot:
As you can see. The far left instance does not want to open where it's icon location is.
The far right version always does it.
Even if I unpin the currently working instance (blue/orange icon) to only house 1 firefox instance (grey/black), the grey/black instance will still not open like the blue/orange instance current does (in it's own icon).
Hopefully this isn't confusing for anyone. I searched for a few terms to see if anyone had this problem and nothing came up, maybe I wasn't wording my searches correctly.

Hopefully someone can give some insights.
Thanks.

When looking for a solution, all I have found is talk about drop shadows. I thought that was my issue until I looked up the definition for drop shadows, and that is not what I am referring to, I believe.

I'm sure you all are familiar with this, but I will attach some images to confirm we are talking about the same thing.

When the icon labels overlap, the transparency causes the label text to be obscured for both icons.

A busy desktop background that goes from light to dark further complicates matters because regardless of the text color choice (black or white), in certain areas of the desktop, the text color contrast will suffer.

I am looking for a way of returning to the Windows 98 style of solid icon label background blocks.

Thanks

Long ago, I removed KB3035583. All was great.
Yesterday, I noticed that the windows 10 icon was back on my task bar. I looked for the KB3035583 and it was NOT installed.
I have done the Notification Area "customization" for the notifications and set Windows 10 (GWX) to HIDE icons and notifications. This just moved the icon to the "hidden icons" area.
How can I get rid of this pesky, malicious thing? I do not want WinX. I like my Win 7x64 just fine. It does what I want it to do without trying to make my desktop PC into a smart phone.
Please tell me there is a way PERMANENTLY REMOVE this pesky thing.

Hi, started having this problem after the Window 10 upgrade, and even after I wiped the drive and installed W10 clean.

With several apps open, when I click an app icon on the task bar, the app does not come to top. Perhaps after repeated clicks it will surface, but often I have to manually minimize windows until I find the app I'm looking for.

I've got current video drivers, mouse drivers, and Window 10 is up to date.

Anyone else experiencing this issue? Any solutions?

Thanks!

O.k.....I have now updated four W10 laptops to the latest version (1703)......the 1st three are fine, but the fourth one has a minor problem......the Windows Defender icon on the taskbar is not showing the green "everything o.k. tick".....there is nothing else showing, no exclamation mark or yellow triangle, and WD says that everything is fine and up to date.......anyone know what could cause this ?.........Del.

Answer:Windows Defender Taskbar Icon

The green tick appears when all four items in the Windows Defender Security Centre are OK, and a yellow mark when any one of them isn't. Presumably no mark of any kind means the security centre has not yet polled the system to determine the state of each function. This can take a while to update itself, I've seen a yellow warning remain on the icon long after correcting a minor 'Device performance and health' issue that had caused it.

I'd try opening Defender to see which one(s) are not showing a green tick, and click on each that isn't to try and see why. Having done this the Defender icon may well have the information it need to determine what colour of tick to show on its icon. Try a restart if it still shows nothing.

Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 7720.  Since upgrading to Windows 10 I can adjust the volume using the function keys,  but not with a mouse as there is no speaker icon in the taskbar.
I have gone through the 'customise notifications area'  options, and the volume option is enabled under "turn system icons on or off'.  Still, there is no speaker icon showing in the task bar.

Answer:No volume icon in taskbar since Windows 10

The volume icon has returned for me.  Is there no way to delete a thread here?

But while I'm here....  I'm still having problems with audio not being as loud.  Max volume seems half as loud as it used to be.  Anyone have any ideas?

looking for a way to unhide the taskbar with only the windows key. often while working on a program the taskbar pops up when my mouse gets too close to the edge. I like it hidden. The goal here is to un-hide the taskbar with just the windows key and not mouseover

my ideas is

Im using a laptop so it doesnt have monitor dispaly position functions

the ideas was to move my display one pixel down that way the mouse could not reach it

anyone know a app that can do this or have any other ideas?

Answer:how do you unhide taskbar with only windows icon key?

I might be able to make one, if that's alright. Most of the apps I make are pretty small... you might be able to use them. But you'd have to settle for something other than just the Win key, as it would get disabled for opening the start menu and instead for the taskbar. Would you be okay with Win key + Spacebar?

It seems the max is 13 at the moment. I am a web designer and I have loads of files I normally pin to one program ie (abobe CC) but for some odd reason I can only pin 13 files max. Didn't encounter this prob when I was using Windows 7. Any suggestions?

Answer:Why can't I pin more than 13 items to one icon on the Windows 8 Taskbar?

Everything does have a number limit. At least, it should. This number limit could change based on any number of factors, but there will always be a limit. Leaving something open to be "infinite" isn't smart programming-wise.
You could be limited by the power of your processor.
Or by the resolution of your monitor.
Or it could even be a limit of the program.
Whatever it is, I don't personally know how you could increase or decrease this limit.

Hi
Please Help me for Disabled change drive icon label to RED Colour.

Answer:Disable change drive icon label to RED Colour?

Hello Magsood, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm not sure what you mean. The red bar for your C: drive indicates that it is low on free space and you need to do something about it before it runs out of space. The only way to not have the red bar is to either get a larger HDD, shrink space from another partition to add to the C: partition, or start deleting or uninstalling anything you do not want on the C: drive.

Could you please clarify what you are wanting to do?

Hope this helps for now,

I have Pinned a few sites to the start menu using Microsoft Edge. My problem is that all of them have the same "E" edge (internet explorer) icon. So unless I keep them at large size, or remember in what order they were pinned/arranged, I have no clue which pin is for which site.

When you click "Pin To Start" in the options menu in Edge, where are those pins stored?
How do I change their Label/title and icon?

I guess it depends on the site; most sites will generate a favicon, if not, the name will still be on the tile(1) as small as medium, if the tile is small it should show a mouse hover tip(2).

I know that there have been many people running XP who actually wanted to get rid of the background colour for their desktop icon label text, so it was transparent. Vista should keep those people happy on that score, though no doubt troubling them with other annoyances! However, because I myself prefer to have an image (changed about every 3 days) as my desktop background, a solid colour background to icon label text is essential for readability. The Vista default of having dark shading around white lettering does make those captions readable against all backgrounds, BUT they look ugly to me and against some pale backgrounds they are still quite difficult to read.

I've spent some time on Google searches for means to restore the user-chosen solid colour background for the icon labels as I had it in XP, and it rather looks as though in Vista there may not be a means to make such a change, at least in any usefully permanent way. My search did lead me to a little utility called D-Color, which actually does just what I want, and I was able to have my icon labels once again with white text on a 'teal' background, which was just what I wanted - except (yes, there always seems to be an 'except' in one's seeking to tame Vista!) that the colour setting isn't permanent and is wiped out with any screen refresh or restart. So, I have to have D-Color as a startup program to set the icon label background colour for the session and have it available all the time for me to run it and click O... Read more

Hi guys. I have a strange problem. I've seen lots of people complaining about the Internet Options Control Panel icon vanishing, but in my case I still have it, but the label has vanished (image attached).

The internet options item is still available in Internet Explorer, and in both cases the options dialog appears as normal. I have IE7 but a few weeks ago I installed and then uninstalled IE8. I wonder if that could be the culprit (I hadn't noticed the Control Panel problem before today.)

I checked the registry entry at:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{A3DD4F92-658A-410F-84FD-6FBBBEF2FFFE}

and couldn't see anything obviously wrong. The "LocalizedString" entry seems a likely candidate for giving the control panel title.

I don't believe I have a malware problem. I keep my system pretty well protected and clean.

Any ideas?

Good day.

I wish to know if there is a way to change the font size/style (bold, etc.) of the icon labels ONLY on the desktop screen.

I've tried the Control Panel method (Appearance & Personalization -> Display) that allows me to change the fonts for 'ICONS'. However, this option also changes the appearance of fonts in the directories/filenames, which is not what I want.

E.g. Labels on the desktop with size 12 and bold. Fonts in folders: size 9 and UNbolded (default style).

Anyone have a solution for this?

I have two Windows 8.1 PC?s, a laptop and a desktop (both similar setups), however the icon in the taskbar that allows you to reserve Windows 10 is only visible on the laptop. The icon is not appearing on the desktop.

According to the Windows 10 Q&A, it lists one possible cause as?Your device is eligible however, we are still working on updates that may improve your device?s experience, like getting a new driver.?

My current feeling at the moment is that although the desktop meets the requirements, this is where the problem lies, and is why the icon isn?t appearing. So, although this is the most likely cause, I thought I?d post here in case someone with the same issue finds some other solution. There?s a thread on the Microsoft Community site HERE as well, which suggests pasting some text into Notepad and running it, but that doesn?t resolve anything, just loops.

With the exception of Silverlight and Skype Desktop updates (which are hidden), all Windows updates are installed and up to date as of today.

Answer:No response if I Right click (Windows Icon on the Taskbar)

Are you running an upgrade or clean install of 10? Where many are seeing similar Start menu issues follows an upgrade install to 10 yet not any upgrade between 10 Insider Preview builds as far as the Control Panel access goes. Other bugs like not being able to open up the Start menu or AllApps are seen when the upgrade doesn't see everything unpacked fully during the install.

The second question besides the type of 10 install you saw would be for how long have you been running into this? Immediately following 10 first going on or now after some amount of time like a hidden bug in Windows springing out of nowhere? The reason for the question being a possible hung update or other type of install for something ending up going sideways on you. The problem however would point mainly at an OS related issue which require a few last resort options such as an inplace Upgrade to Repair or even a full fresh copy of 10 being seen to.

My laptop is only 4 days old. The IE9 icon in the taskbar was working properly meaning if I click the icon it will launch a webpage and if I pressed it again it will launch another webpage (the icon in the taskbar then get stacked up which is correct).

Unfortunately after a windows update on my laptop, this feature doesn't work anymore. When I click the icon it will open a webpage but if I click it again the webpage CLOSES! No matter how many times I click the icon in the taskbar it won't launch another webpage.

The IE in the start menu works fine and it will open as many webpages as I like but not in the taskbar (I have unpinned and repinned but to no difference)

I have even done a system restore back to the earliest date possible but the problem has not been reverted. How to I fix it?

Thanks in advance.

p.s.
I don't think the problem has anything to do with the IE software because the Google Chrome icon also has the same problem in my taskbar.

Answer:IE icon in taskbar got disabled after windows update

Hello SevenBeginner, and welcome to Seven Fourms.

Not sure why it was doing that before, but by default when you click on the pinned IE9 icon on the taskbar, it will open one instance of IE9. Clicking on the IE9 icon again will just show you it's taskbar thumbnail preview with more than on IE9 instance or tab opened. If only one IE9 and/or tab is open, the clicking on the icon will minimize/unminimize the window.

However, you could open another tab in IE9.

You could also right click on the pinned IE9 icon on the taskbar, and click on Internet Explorer in the jump list to open another instance of IE9.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi,

I have a laptop that was previously running Win 7 Ultimate x64 andI upgraded that to Win 8 Pro x64 quite some time back. On this laptop, when I have several windows open for an app on my task bar, when I repeatedly left-click on the task bar icon, it cycles through the app's windows. That is, as I click, the app window will show up in the foreground and the next click will show the app's next window, etc.

Now I have a new laptop, with Win 8 Pro x64 pre-installed and I no longer have the cycle-through feature. When I click on an app that has multiple windows, all it does is show me the preview windows down by the taskbar.

I searched and searched and could not find where such an option exists for me to enable that feature to cycle through when I click and I couldn't find anything. Nor was I able to find any posts on the matter.

Does anyone know how I can enable this feature on my new laptop so that both are functioning the same?

Thanks!

HiI have windows xp pro. It was running fine till I had attacked; Trozan.zeroaccess!inf.I downloaded trozan removel tool from symantic and removed the visrus. But now windows xp pro is taking too long (about 7min) to get network connection icon to appeared in the taskbar. This mean it is not connected to network.I have read it up on net and some are advicing to redisable some services. I try that, but still no change. Please can someone help. Many thanks

Answer:Windows XP take too long to display network Icon in taskbar

You might describe exactly what services you disabled. Not sure what you mean by "re-disable" some services! If you disable a service it no longer works if you "re-enable" a service it operates once again. Your terminology needs working on too.

Since I started using Win7, the windows explorer icon on the taskbar has never given me any options - left-clicking it opened windows explorer.
Suddenly it has changed - clicking it now brings up "autoplay" and I have to right click to get the option to open explorer ( as well as the options to unpin from taskbar and close the window).
Can anyone tell me how to get it back as it was?
TIA

It's been couple of days since I upgraded my system to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Everything is working fine except this nasty error. If I pin apps to taskbar or run apps , the app icons on the taskbar are shown as white square. And I am seeing the same thing on Apps & Feature settings list. The icons are there but as the backgrounds are shown as grey-white chequered pattern (for the transparency ), it looks like white squares. Rebuilt the icon cache but to no avail. And on the start menu everything looks fine.
