Dialog box colour?

Question: Dialog box colour?

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone could tell me how to change the colour of the main dialog box (eg: save as, download progress, "are you sure?" etc). It's not configurable from Personalization>Advanced window settings. I'm using the notoo theme and have recently (read: yesterday) discovered reshack but don't know if it's needed in this instance.

If anyone could shed some light that would be great.

Preferred Solution: Dialog box colour?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there gurus.
My pc doesn?t show certain colour objects in Publisher 2007 and some on-line sites. Overall, the screen colour is very good. I know the fault is localised, because when I switch to Print Preview in Publisher it looks fine and I can see all the object colours. (I only lose the colour with objects, not text)
Also, when I send a copy of a Publisher page to my partner who is on the same PC, it looks fine on her screen.
I?ve tried going to Install/uninstall programs and run the Repair, but to no avail. The guys in my computer shop are clueless without seeing it. Anyone who can help solve this for me is a gem.

What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with compatible inks?

I'm happy to invest in buying a colour laser: but I can't find any refills for lasers
At least they don't seem to be widely available

So, my choice is: colour laser + genuine inks or colour inkjet + compatible inks

From what I know, side by side: laser's are cheaper
But, how about when compared to genuine laser ink to compatible colour inkjet inks?

I should stress that for me needs, I am not overly concerned if using compatibles doesn't give me perfect results - just close as possible is fine for me

What's more important probably is speed of print at highest quality

ANY feedback would be great

Answer:What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with ink compatibles?

Finding Compatible Remanufactured Color Toner cartridges can be dicey. While they may be available, the problem may end up being the company tht does the remanufaturing. It is also dependant upon the model printer you get. I have noticed that the savings on my Black Canon X-25 toner cartridge is only about $12 lower than the cost of a Factory original cartridge. There are sites that I would save up to $30 per cartridge, but part of this is eaten up by the shipping charges. For my toner cartridge, I am about 1/2 mile from the store that does nothing but ink and toner refill services, and their garauntee thier cartridges 100%. In 3 years I have only had to return one cartridge and it was an HP #17 Color cartridge.

Now per page printing cost on a laser is much cheaper than on an inkjet. Though the printer cost itself is usually much higher for a Laser. Personally I use the laser much more than than my Inkjet, but I do use the inkjet for all color printing. But then 95% of my printing is monochrome text.

Hi, I'm using the Aerolite theme with Aeroglass, and want a consistent colour for the borders. So I set accent colour from background 'off' and choose the colour. Fine so far.

Now that's ok if I log off and on.

But if I sleep or hibernate (not personally ) and then resume, the colour and setting are lost.

I noticed that on resuming, the border colour is present until the 'Please wait' screen appears, after which these settings are lost.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi Allhope someone more knowledgable can advise - I recently purchased a Lexmark x500n multifunction colour laser printer - I had a big black print job to do excel and word - 2000 pages - i was shocked to see that - ok the black starter cartridge of 2500 pages was nearly empty- fair enough - but all three colour cartridges (1500 page size) were nearly all empty too - I hadn't done any colour printing but when i contacted the manuf they advised that the printer uses colour also to print black!! - it's getting returned to them - but do do all colour lasers do this - obviously this quadruples the costs of printing and has put my costing out of the window!! - any advice would be great - it's a network colour printer, with copier and scanner that I need - a fax would be great but not essential.thanks in advanceTrifly

That would pee me off no end. How in God's name can it use colour to create black when there's a black cartridge in there? A cheapo mono laser seems to be your ideal tool. I know nothing about colour laser printers, but is there an option anywhere in the settings to print using only the black cartridge? Does the printer still work if you take out the colour cartridge while printing only black text documents?

Hello friends,
I was just thinking that wouldn't it be great if we get more color options to change the background color on our Windows Phone devices than just black or white as we get on Windows 8.1 devices to customize background color along with tile colour?

Answer:More colour options to change background colour

I personally like the black and white, but I saw a mockup of a dim tropical photo in place of the black and it looked quite beautiful.

I found the easiest way to achieve this was to print the picture and then adjust my screen to match. Once you've adjusted the screen all future pictures which look too light or dark, on screen, can be adjusted to suit within your software.

I seriously need help with my PC. I've reinstalled Windows XP and Service Pack 2, and I can't chnge the Screen resolution or the colour quality. It sucks. The resolution stays at 800x600, the lowest possible, and the colour quality stays at 8 bit. I think I have a ATI 128 MB DDR Radeon 9800 Pro. I dunno whether thats a driver or what. And I also don't know my graphics card, or whether that will help at all.

I would swear at this point but I'm too young.

Oh but I'll use this instead

Has anyone got any help for me that I can understand. I'm 14 but I still can understand most computer talk.

Anyway thanks very much for reading all this crap and please try not to point out all my spelling mistakes.

Answer:[resolved]Help with resolution and colour and colour quality??.. anyone??

Heya, welcome to the forums

Okay, it has to do with your drivers. Go to ATI's website and find your driver.

Here's the link

Please download and install both the Control Center as well as the Display driver. Then restart your computer and try to change the resolution.

I'm running Windows XP and IE 8.0. I did not change any settings on my computer.

Today, all the fonts and sizes are TOO LARGE and my screen resolution is TOO LOW. Also, toolbars are too big and web pages take up too much room on the screen because of big fonts.

Annoyingly, I can NOT change the CONTROL PANEL/DISPLAY/Appearance or Settings tabs and can NOT scroll down far enought, because the Dialog box gets "cut off" half way down the Dialog box, so the relevant buttons and "save" functions are not accessible.

I did try to restart and fix via the SAFE MODE, but again, the Dialog Boxes get cut off.
HELP! Also ran virus scan several times and all up to date.

Thank you.

I'm suddenly seeing a pop up on my screen each time I start up that reads as follows: Loader 32 EXE - Bad Image C:\program files\sup tab\Windows support D//32.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again with the original installation media or contact your system administration or the vendor for support. I have no idea what this is or where it came from. Is it something that really needs my attention and if not how do I get rid of this annoying pop up? Where in my system do I locate this file so I can see what it is and how do I determine its importance and fix it if needed? Question: Dialog Box help

When you right click on an icon and choose Properties, and the Properties Dialog Box comes up, you can click on Find Target Button to find the *.exe.

My problem is when I choose to close this Dialog Box, it really takes an extreme amount of time to close when all other buttons (Change Icon, Advanced, etc.) work fine.

All other functions in Explorer are fast, IE is fast, everything else is fast. I feel it is a Registry edit, but does anyone know what that could be. What in the Registry has to do with the Find button.

Thanks for any help.

My proglem is as follows, occasionally, the dialog box (for "saving" or else) does not show on top. Which means I'm in the process of doing something, in this particular instance, saving a file from the internet to my computer (using IE8), and the dialog box is completely lost amidst all the programmes I have running (like Adobe Acrobat, Word, and IE). This means I'm actually stuck and I have to close every single window one after another to find the elusive dialog box and complete the procedure (I tried going directly to "desktop", but it wasn't there).
It never happened with XP, is there a setting I should tune or is this just a(nother) bug?
Thanks v. much for any help/advice.

Note: there was an old post about this issue: "Error message and search problems", but I was advised to create a new one, as it was, indeed too old.

Answer:Dialog box not on top

Normally the dialog box is with the application it's associated with, but it can get behind the other application windows you have opened. If you hold down Alt and press Tab until you come to the associated application, then release Alt, the dialog box should be there. Or click on the taskbar button of the application that is using the dialog box and you should see it.

If another application you are using has its own setting for "Always on top", it may be preventing you seeing what is behind it - try it with Task Manager (Options > Always on top) and you'll see what I mean. So check your application settings for this.

If the dialog box is actually behind the application that is using it, that's weird; maybe someone else will have experience of that.

First post here, & I'm hoping someone can help. My OS is Windows XP, SP2, and I have a notebook computer that came w/ an Intel 2200 b/g wireless card as part of its Centrino set-up. Anyway, I don't use wireless, and decided to uninstall a few programs that I don't use, including Intel ProSet Wireless (from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel). I then used a registry cleaner, & thought I was good to go. Now, however, whenever I re-start Windows, I get the message box below:This pops up while my start-up programs are loading (though this box references "2915", I actually have the 2200 b/g card). Anybody have an idea of what I need to do to get rid of this box when I re-start? One good thing about uninstalling this is that it cut out about 8 running processes.... Any help appreciated.

Question: Run As Dialog

I recently had a Malware infection. I used Rkill and Malwarebytes to rid the system of the Malware. I did this in normal mode(not safe mode). Now when I boot into the profile from which I cleaned the malware everytime I try to open a program I am prompted for the Run As dialog box. This doesn't affect any of the other user profiles. I have disabled the secondary login service, and ran scans with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware with the most up to date definitions. I have seen this same prompt everytime I use Rkill, but It never comes back after I reboot the computer, and it's odd that it only affects the one profile.

HI Linda, and welcome to BC. As you may have noticed, this section is only for introductions, and not the proper place to list your problems, so I will be happy to move it to the proper location for you.

What article did you download? A dialog box is merely a small window that open in the middle of your screen when you do any number of things, such as installing software, or confirming decisions. One way to check and see if there are windows open that you can't see is to look at your task bar and see if there is anything there.

I have a client running WinXP sp3 and has an issue with PDF's:

Running Adobe Reader 9 he can open any PDF file without any problems, but when he attempts to print the thing it takes (minimum) over a minute for the Windows Print Dialog Box to come up. The document prints just fine from that point, it's just getting to that point...

I tried uninstalling, re-installing, running the Adobe repair option - nothing helped.

Drastic measure: I had him install Foxit Reader - Same results!

He can print any other files without a problem - just not PDF's.

Question: Cannot load dialog

I am new to these forums and if I have posted this in the wrong category I apologise.

On starting my computer I get the following error headed Network Connections - Cannot load dialog.
Error 623: The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection.

I have googled the error and have found nothing for this particular error, I just click OK and there appears to be no problem with any network problems. I would like to know if anyone on this forum has a solution for this problem.

Answer:Cannot load dialog

Is there no solution to this problem???

hello. tried the firefox forum. but for some reason, their safeguards would not accept my 5 digit entries. so here i am.had problems with vista 64 connecting, so "had" to clean install win 7 pro 64. re-installed firefox 3.53 and transfered as much from previous profile as i could haphazardly do. as such, my bookmarks, cookies, exceptions, add-ons all seem to work. BUT, the dialog box looked weird. after updating to firefox 3.54, i settled in to do some steady web-surfing. the dialog box became more irksome.when i right-click to save a web page, a dialog box opens. with vista, the box has the same theme as the browser (walnut). it was a simple fairly small elongated rectangular box with a few dialog buttons and entry boxes. with win 7, the firefox dialog box is windows based. it has the whole complement of drives, navigations and menus to choose from. in essence, the dialog box is an explorer window. i tried to shrink it down to a manageable size, but still it takes up real estate that i have to traverse from dialog button to dialog box and back. that's not the part that is irksome! it's the noticeable short flash display of the dialog box in its pre-shrunk original size to the shrunk, did i forget to tick or untick some firefox or add-on setting? i did take the option of not having the internet explorer as an enabled windows component. windows 7 updates are current with ie8 updates greyed out.

Answer:firefox dialog box in win 7

found a pink elephant.i HAD changed the default downloads folder. the "problem" is the downloads are going to the default downloads folder from the vista/firefox install. so the haphazard is biting back.i'll probably create a new profile and be more careful transfering and see if this will fix it.

2 Systems:
Each: Windows 7 Enterprise X64

I am logged in to these systems as a regular domain user (non-admin), but my domain login is a member of the local admin group on each system.

One of the programs I run on each of these systems requires that I run it as administrator. I have changed the property of the desktop shortcut to always run it as administrator.

When I double-click the desktop shortcut:
- one system will pop up the dialog that asks me to confirm whether I want to run as admin, then executes the program as admin (I can tell by the behavior of the program).
- the other system will NOT pop up the dialog, and will not run the program as admin at all (evidenced again by the program's behavior)

What I've done so far:
- made sure the UAC on both systems is set up identical
- run the program by right-clicking the shortcut and selecting 'run as admin'
- right-clicking the .exe file and selecting 'run as admin'

I also found that other programs on the unwilling system DO still run as admin (and make the popup dialog appear), it's just the one program that doesn't.

How can I restore this functionality to the exe I am trying to run as admin?

I've always wanted a command line dictionary (well run rather than command line), after doing a bit of searching, the best things I found was along with this little app. Now everything works fine except for the fact when I type "dict [word I am looking for]" into the run dialog it loads the command prompt and quickly shuts it down once the results are found?

How can I sort this out?

Answer:problem with the run dialog....

instead of typing in the command from the Run dialog box, in the run dialog box, type "cmd" first and then enter to bring up the command line window. Then use your "dict...." command.

My friend said that there was something you typed into the run dialog box that will show you your comp statistics. Something that started with a "d", but it tells you about your computer, like part types uh... memory on your comp uh... and stuff like that. I was wondering what it is that you type in.

Doesn't work for all cases but for many. Try it anyway but make a REG backup first or don't blame me if it all goes FUBAR.

Your registry is corrupted somehow so if this does not work I am all out if answers. You could always reinstall XP.

Question: Print Dialog Box

So this may seem like a weird question. I use a web based service that allows me to put together reports, forms, etc. I can select various forms and then click a print button and the bottom of the screen which spools the print jobs to my printer. The only problem is that I often need to print out 30,40, or 50 reports and since IE 6, a separate printer dialog box comes up for each report. I guess they are all sent as individual print jobs... can anyone think of anyway around this, either spooling all into one big print job to then be printed or a way to bypass the printer dialog box?

Hi Folks - I recently downloaded Google Chrome to have the option of using a much newer bowser at times when my old one may be having problems.

Just recently I now get a message everytime I start up my computer (this didn't start right after I started with Google Chrome, I had it for a while before this started) in a dialog box that refers to Norton, which is the security program I have for my computer.

The message has a yellow box with a black explanation point in the middle on the top left. To the right of this it says.....Get Your Norton Toolbar back! (By the way, I didn't even know it had gone away or if I needed it back needed it back.....I really haven't looked at the Google Chrome Browser to any extent yet & haven't tried to learn much about it yet either, other priorities.

And under this it says....Changes in the latest version of Google Chrome require re-installing the Norton Toolbar from the Chrome Web Store. Click "Install Now" to get your full web protection back in your Browser.
There are 3 options on how to reply to this. (1) don't ask me again (2) Later (3) Install Now

I have always clicked on Later because I wanted to know a bit more about this before I decided what to do & that is obviously why I'm here. I guess the part about the Chrome Web Store threw me off a little. Probably because it also just has an "Install Now" button right in the dialog box. So I don't get why it mentions re-installi... When exiting a program, it brings up a dialog box that asks if you really want to quit. When the last file is closed, it tries to close the app as well, thus producing this box. I often do not want to close the app, so I click NO.

Here's the problem: SOMEONE at my office got on my machine and clicked that check box that says "don't ask me this again". Now the app closes without confirming.

I looked in the program's preferences, settings, etc., and there's nothing there about restoring it. Someone told me that I'd have to go into the registry to get it back.

Anyone know how I can get this dialog box back?

Ever since I recently updated my IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad R52 1847W76 (thanks to greatly-appreciated help from this board) I've been receiving an annoying and entirely unwelcome dialog box.  I would like your advice on how to get rid of it.  Here is the path: [right click] Start > Properties > Task Bar and Start Menu Properties > [tab] Start Menu > [select] Classic Start menu > [radio button] Customize... > [pop-up dialog box titled "Customize Classic Start Menu"] "C:\Documents and Settings\Joe\Recent is not accessible.  Access is denied." > [radio button] OK At this point, the normal "Customize Classic Start Menu" appears anyway; and I can click the (live) radio button labeled "Clear" and the egg-timer icon appears in place of the mouse pointer, then goes away after a few moments; but I'm not sure if the "recently accessed documents, programs, and Web sites" are actually being cleared.  How can I fix whatever's wrong so that dialog box quits showing up?  Thank you for your help!  Here is some system information: OS Name    Microsoft Windows XP ProfessionalVersion    5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600OS Manufacturer    Microsoft CorporationSystem Name    MRCAT-08607D7B3System Manufacturer    IBMSystem Model    1847W76System Type    X86-based PCProcessor    x86 Family 6 Model 13 Stepping 8 GenuineIn... I currently use Microsoft Windows Pro XP, SP2 on a Dell Inspiron 8100.

When I move the mouse over a photograph/picture and hover the mouse pointer over the picture, a little dialog box pops up on the desktop. The dialog box has no words, only icons.

The box is approximately 1/4" x 1-1/4" and when I hover the mouse over each of the six available icons, the description for each icon is:

"Save to local disk"
"Zoom in"
"Zoom out"
"Copy URL to clipboard"
"Send in an email"

This little box pops up and it gets in the way. I would like to set up my computer so that this little box no longer pops up. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and how to eliminate it?

I've noticed this weird problem..I have Windows XP Professional SP3 (I've had SP3 installed since I installed windows last, cause i slipstreamed it), and every time I go to shut down, i click Start > Shut Down, and then nothing happens. My computer just locks up for about 10 minutes, and then finally starts responding again, but no shut down dialog. This just recently started happening, but I can't think of anything i've installed that would cause this.. and no, I don't have system restore enabled, so I can't do that.Any suggestions?-John

Answer:Shutdown dialog won't come up

Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and go into the Task Manager and look to see what is eating up the CPU % during shutdown hang. You will have to sort by % to have the System Idle Process at the top and look at the next few services etc below that and write them down and report back here or search Google with them in reference to system hang to see if you get any hits. Also look to see if there are any hung apps that might not be in view, but in a hung state. Also check Event Log of system for any error blats. Unsually problems like this will blat about a service or something hanging to give you a direction to go in.What is happening is that an event is in a hung state and until the timeout it hangs from the sound of it.Also I have seen this behavior with some HP Printer Software Packages which are flawed, which have critical security updates for that are not Microsoft Updates, but HP Critical Software Updates where a hacker could get in, and this software is so flawed that it causes the system hangs you report. I saw this with a HP All-in-one 5510 Printer/Fax/Scanner at my company. Ran patch and all was better, no more system hangs and no more vulnerability with HP Software/drivers!!!

Regardless of what I do (select a folder and click "OK" or just click "Cancel") the dialog comes up again next time I open IE7.

Tried setting default folder for downloads, didn't work. Tried downloading IE7 Pro and using Download Manager, no effect.

When I click in my short-cut icon(s) on the desktop to launch my web site(s) I get the dialog box which reads "Choose the program you want to use to open this file". When I then select Internet Explorer and tick the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and click OK I get to my destination.

But when I repeat the process of clicking the icon(s) for my site(s) I go through the same process again and again.

It all happened when trying out Safari browser now uninstalled. The icon clicking worked properly with Safari but would not go back to working OK with IE.

Any ideas?

it may be easier to put them in their own folder without any HTML content in it and include the folder as the last item in the url with a forward slash behind it:

Answer:Run Dialog Boxes

I'm unsure of what you mean by "activate"
To use it, click on "Start", then click on "Run"
Or, press the Windows Key and R

If it's missing from the menu, right click on the Start Button and select Properties
Then click on the Customize button for the Start menu, then on the Advanced tab
Scroll down to the Run command there and put a check in the box, then click on Apply to save the changes.

Sorry if this is obvious but ..

Am using IE6 on XP. When I exit the last web page I expect a dialog box to ask me whether I want to 'disconnect' or 'stay connected'. For some reason this dialog doesn't happen any longer - it used to, and it does not disconnect so I am left with an open connection ( in dial up).
OK if I always check I can manually disconnect but I would rather IE do it for me.
I don't want to invoke the 'disconnect after x minutes of inactivity' because if I set it too low it may log me off when I am simply getting a coffee and if I set it too high I am paying more than I need for line time.

Can someone explain please?

Answer:No Disconnect Dialog

Try this page. It's for a specific ISP, but the approach is the same for all.

Answer:Dialog Box Flash

Can you give some more details about this dialog box? It's pretty common for some shortcuts to briefly open a DOS window, and this would not be a problem, but if it's a Windows warning or something else like that, that's a totally different issue. Can you clarify exactly what the window looks like? If you can, try to print-screen and capture this dialog box and paste the screenshot into Microsoft Paint.

I?ve recently rehabbed a couple of systems, and have run into a few minor nits. None are mission-critical, but I?m irked by then anyway.

In no order?..All have new clean installations of Win 7 Ultimate

On one of the systems, the toggle key alert tones no longer sound. They were sporadic for a while, and now are just gone. Anyone have any ideas?

I use Stoic-Joker?s T-Clock instead of the boring system clock in the task bar. On ONE of three new systems the PM time always displays as military time. I can?t determine how to change it. It?s not a fault in T-Clock ?cause I have them set up identically on all three systems and only one fails. Thoughts?

On all three systems, when opening a folder with Windows Explorer, it seems like the system is ?searching? for something, and a grey progress bar crawls across the top of the panel. It?s gotta be a setting I?m missing, as it doesn?t do this on any of the other four system in my home ? all running Win 7 Enterprise.

Lastly, on one of the three systems, I?m unable to set the ?picture location? for the wallpaper changer. I can toggle between the ?Windows Desktop Backgrounds and ?Solid Colors?, but any attempt to browse to a new directory location fails. I can browse to it ? it just won?t take! This one REALLY irritates me.

In the grand scheme of things, none of these things really matter. That won?t detract from my gratitude for any and all advice or solutions offered.

hi, this is very annoying since the invention of windows.

programs have their own notifications/dialog boxes that pop up undesirably (i.e. copy fails, Y!M gets disconnected, broadband connection is lost).

like when i am typing, they pop up and steal the focus, then suddenly i don't know what command i issue.
or when i am playing some games in full screen. suddenly they pop up, bring me back to windows, and i lose the battle.

these are very very annoying. do you guys know how to switch these off or make them pop up in background?

What does the pop say? Where does it pop up on the your screen? What else are you doing on your computer when it pops up? Are you talking about notifications on the task bar?

Question: Dialog box problem

I have a problem that I think I got myself into and can't remember how to correct it.

I was recording a welding video clip from real player. When I inserted my blank cd in the drive the dialog box popped up as always asking me what I wanted to do, I clicked on "record with RealPlayer" not noticing that the little green check mark was in the box for always use this. Now I can no longer get the dialog box to apperar when I insert a blank cd into the drive, it goes to Real Player automaticaly. I even uninstalled Real Player and still no box.

I need to know what I need to change to get my dialog back when I insert a blank cd.

Thanks for any help.
