Strange problem with pinning an icon to taskbar

Question: Strange problem with pinning an icon to taskbar

Something weird has happened to my taskbar. I have a few programs pinned there and everything was okay. Then today I unpinned Firefox from there because I wanted to change the icon I was using. After deciding I didn't like it I tried to go back to the one I was using but when I pinned it back to the task bar this problem occurred:

As you can see when I click on the silver Firefox icon, it opens up a new firefox icon (default icon) in a separate place, taking up unnecessary space. I can't figure out how to make it go back to the way it was where everything stayed within the silver icon.

Preferred Solution: Strange problem with pinning an icon to taskbar

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Strange problem with pinning an icon to taskbar

It is indeed the browser being opened but the problem is it used to open up within the silver icon (the default firefox icon you see to the right has basically taken its place). It's a bit of an annoyance because it takes up the little space I have on my taskbar before things start getting combined and messy.

Sorry if what I'm explaining is confusing, it would probably be easier to show with a video or something.

Is there any way to do this? I can't do it from the "Devices & Printers" windows and when I make a shortcut of my printer on my desktop I can't send that to the taskbar either.

Answer:Pinning the Printer icon to the taskbar

Hello XNemesis,

You might see if creating the shortcut in the tutorial below may work for you. It opens the Printers folder where you can see your printer, and is able to pin to the taskbar.

I installed Word 2013 onto a new computer some time ago. Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. Pinning has never worked. I can drag, I can right click and select pin, I can do whatever I want, but nothing appears and it just stays blank. Neither do recently opened items show up on a right click of the icon. Pinning/recent items works on everything else (e.g. Adobe, Explorer), including Outlook. I tried reinstalling but it still wouldn't work. I couldn't find much to go on so I gave up and have done without pinning. Recently I turned on "store and display recently opened items in the start menu and the taskbar" and suddenly I was given another clue as to what the issue is - Excel still shows nothing BUT in Word's recent items I'm getting *Adobe* files (see screenshot, file names removed for privacy): I can pin adobe files to word's icon. I googled again and I still don't see anything about this but I'm just wondering if anyone has come across this and can help. Thanks in advance!

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I wasnt sure where to post. On my taskbar I have a strange icon that comes and goes. You cant click on it. It isnt identified as anything sinister by Mcafee. It is a cream square with a small circle on top, it has an "a" inside the square.
Today when I logged on all the fonts looked like they were in safe mode so I took everything back to the factory settings. That has sorted the font problem but the square still popped up.
Any help will be gratefully received, thanks in advance.

Don't know what it is for. Sometimes it pops up/appears, moves around and then disappears. It's not showing in the past items of the taskbar either. :confused It's sticking up its head in the past few weeks I think.

Here's the pic to show what it looks like. Does it look familiar to any of you? If so, please let me know. Only change is I downloaded Google Chrome a few weeks back.

Answer:Strange Icon in Taskbar

Solved. I think it's Google Chrome when I exit that browser, the blue C icon appears, stays for abt 6 seconds and then disappears. Shows how often I use Chrome. :-D

I am not sure it has been always there or not but I noticed a strange looking black box with a number 9 on my taskbar (I have Windows Vista Home version).

I clicked on it but nothing happens. I went into the Taskbar property and it shows the blackbox with the number 9 in it but it has no info.

Has anyone seen that before?
How can I find out what kind of program this is?

I wonder, if someone know, what means this icon?

This appears rarely, maybe after three days. I got it on my taskbar, corner and I can't get no tittle about, I just move cursor on it and that gones. Is this a virus? I tried to scan my PC when I saw it and I find two trojans (Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Genome.bzbn and Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Genome.bzci), but that didn't help. I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 antivirus.

Question: Pinning To Taskbar

Hi All

I am new to windows 8 but have been finding my way around, One problem I am finding is that some websites I visit to "Pin To Taskbar" seem to only show a blank icon! No name but text but when you change the text it doesn't change on the icon? strange one particular site is the Nationwide bank page cannot seem to get an icon with a name on it?

Anybody got any ideas as to why this happens on only a few sites?

Answer:Pinning To Taskbar

Hello Gatewaya, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It depends on what favicon is used by the site for what icon the URL shortcut will have on the middle of it's page icon. I have a icon for Nationwide bank for me, so you might see if deleting your temporary internet files and history and reloading the site may help.

If you like, you could also pin the site in the jump list of the browser's icon on the taskbar.

Hi guys, I'm having a serious problem here. I wanted to add a folder to my windows explorer pinned folders so that I can right click on the windows explorer icon on the taskbar and have my popular folders right there. When I first setup windows 7, I did this by right clicking on the folders I wanted and clicking "Pin to Taskbar." Now, when I right click on folders, there is no such option. Even libraries only have the option to "Pin To Start Menu" which is strange because I had already pinned a library to the windows explorer icon on the task bar, which means that must have been an option before because I don't know how else I would do it. Can someone please explain to me how I can add more folders to the windows explorer icon? This is very frustrating

Answer:Pinning To Taskbar??

Drag folder to the explorer icon on taskbar and it will be pined there.

Question: Pinning to taskbar

Not a huge issue more of just something i was curious about, why cant the "computer" desktop icon be pinned to the taskbar? I know that it is possible to pin the windows explorer but i want it to have the computer icon or at least the c drive icon.

Answer:Pinning to taskbar

I haven't found the reason why it's not possible to pin the Computer icon to the superbar. Maybe it's because it belongs in the explorer - who knows. You can pin it, though, if you really want to. There are some guides already posted around here somewhere. You basically create a shortcut, then point that shortcut to where the My Computer icon points to, then pin it to the superbar.

I'm currently having a problem where pinning any kind of shortcut to the taskbar via its context menu doesn't do anything. That is, a pin doesn't appear on the taskbar, and in the location '%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar' no shortcut file is created.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Professional from Windows 7 Professional. That may be the cause.
Another potential factor is that previously, I have followed this guide (using both methods described) in order to further customize my system. The reason I mention that is because in researching I read the answer posted here. Unfortunately, I have not been able to fix the problem by undoing the first method of that guide; also there is no way to undo the second method of that guide, and I have been unsuccessful in fixing the problem by following the solution that answer describes (I couldn't find the 'Inkfile' folder). By the way, is it wrong that the 'link' key I deleted in following the process to undo the first method hasn't reappeared after restarting?

I'm not sure what to try next.
I would really appreciate some help... sorry to be foolish enough to try and customize my system a bit, if that is what caused this issue.
For now, I guess I'll have to use shortcut toolbars on my taskbar. Or is there a registry location where I can at least go in and, say, add a key with a shortcut address and icon address to add a pin with those properties?

Thanks in advance,

I know about the tutorial explaining what to do using the toolbar method, but I don't like the separator between the Recycle Bin and the rest of the icons. There is another recommended method of pinning the Recycle Bin by creating a shortcut and using shell:recyclebinfolder, but this stopped working. In fact, all my folder shortcuts I created and pinned to the taskbar by using explorer.exe in the target stopped working.

Is there any other working methods out there so that I can put the Recycle Bin icon anywhere I want on the taskbar without seeing the separator?

I installed Windows 7 recently and am finally making it look and behave the way I like except for one thing I would appreciate help with.

You see, I'm on dial-up... Don't laugh it's still the only thing available where I live.

When I had Windows Vista and before that I always had shortcut icon in my taskbar I could click on to connect or to check the state of my connection. Now I have to click on the Network Sharing Center in the right hand corner, and it takes me 3 more clicks before I'm finally connected. I have to go through the same routine to check if I'm still connected or what speed I connected at. Also, I don't always manage to connect on the first try so I have to go through that routine many times. I did manage to create a shortcut by opening Adapter Settings and creating one from there but the problem is Windows 7 wont let me pin that shortcut to the taskbar. I don't know what is worse... Having to go through the 3 or 4 cliks to connect, or having to stare at that huge dial-up shortcut all the time on my otherwise pristine desk top? Oh, and thanks for the little file that allowed me to remove the Libraries Icon from my desktop. Was really happy to find that little gem.

Any suggestion with my current problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone,

First post here and thanks for allowing me to be a part of the community!

My first question is while attempting to pin a website to the task bar in Edge I followed the directions and selected the "3 dots menu" and then selected "open with IE" option as instructed.

When I click on the webpage icon in the task bar the site indeed comes up but it is in Internet Explorer rather than Edge. Is there any way I can pin the site to the task bar and have it launch in Edge rather than IE? I understand it opens in IE because I opened the website in Edge and then told it to open with IE.

When I tried pinning the tab to the task bar in Edge I got the universal red circle with the line through it so I couldn't pin it unless I opened it in IE.

Ive noticed when I pin a website to the Start Menu that it will open in Edge. Is it not possible to have this happen by using the task bar?

Thanks so much for your help.

Appreciate interacting with you folks very much.

Okay, so I was having some issues before with pinning network files to the explorer item on the taskbar.

I can now replicate the bug happening. I want to see if it's just my setup or windows 7, so I'd be much obliged if someone can test this out for me as well.

First Scenario
1) First map a network drive.
2) Pin it to the explorer item on the taskbar by dragging it there.
3) Open up the destiation through the jump list.
4) navigate a couple of folders down and open any file.

What you should get is the network drive is no longer pinned. However, the folder where the file you just opened resided has taken it's place.

Second Scenario
1) Navigate to a network destination through windows explorer (not a mapped drive)
2) Pin a Folder from that network destination by gragging to the taskbar.
3) Pin another folder than resides inside a folder in step 2

Result: Folder pinned in step 2 is replaced by folder pinned in step 3

Answer:Pinning Network Files (Strange Behaviour)

This doesn't happen with me.
In the first scenario the network drive was still pinned.
In the second scenario too there were two separate pinned items.

Immediately the minimized Adobe window (in my taskbar) began to flash orange, and I could not close the page. I had to shut down and restart. And then I saw that all the documents that I had pinned to the Word icon in my taskbar had disappeared, and when I tried to pin a document, it wouldn't pin. Never happened before...awfully big coincidence... I just uninstalled Flash Player to see if that would fix the problem, but it didn't. Please help!

Thanks. As always.

For some reason FireFox doesnt want me to use my own icon for it in the taskbar. ill change the icon, pin it to the taskbar, click the new icon and itll open up a new firefox default icon on the taskbar so there will be 2.

anyway around this?

Answer:FireFox Taskbar Icon, Makes Duplicate Taskbar Icon's

Let's fix the duplicate icon first, open Firefox from the pinned icon you have already after the second one opens up unpin the first one and pin the second one that should stop the duplicate icon.

Now the icon go to C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar then right-click on the Firefox shortcut click on properties make sure you're in the Shortcut tab and click on the Change Icon Button. After you open up Firefox again icon will revert back to the default icon because it opens up Firefox.exe you would have to change the icon in the .exe for a permanent change.

This is driving me nuts. I have two email accounts on my phone. One is my work, and the other is my Hotmail. They use to both be on the start screen. But in the past month or two something happened. Now, my work outlook email inbox icon keeps unpinning when my Hotmail syncs its inbox.
This is driving me nuts. I'm fully up to date. I've tried every way of pinning my outlook mail that I know of, even the documented way through the settings menu. No matter what, if I add it, it is unpinned in the course of an hour.
I managed to figure out it is unpinning when Hotmail is sync'ed. For gods sake... please someone tell me you have heard of this and know of the solution! Thanks.

OK I'm not sure where to begin with this one.

I "had" a custom theme layout for Windows 7 (Ultimate). All the windows and taskbar were black with a slight amount of transparency on the taskbar. Now all of a sudden for no reason, the theme refuses to load and everything remains the default blue. Even stranger, all of my tray icons seem to be fuxxed. Half of them appear invisible as just blank icons and the ones that are visible do nothing when you click on them. My system is crippled because of this IE no Daemon tools.

I want to say it started doing this as soon as I added my second GTX460 in SLI, but it could be a coincidence. Any ideas?

Hi, I've got xp sp2 and a new problem has just popped up which is kinda weird. I tried searching around, but couldn't find quite the right thing.

My wireless connection is fine when i boot up, for about 5 minutes. then the icon in the taskbar says my wireless is not connected. And if i click the icon to open up "wireless connections" it says i'm disconnected.
however i can still browse the web and use the internet for a while, but eventually i get truly disconnected and my computer doesn't rerconnect automaically.

i have done spyware scans and av, everything's fine though.

When I go to "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" and click on the "Notification Area" Tab I see that under "System Icons" that the only one I can check is the Clock; all the others are grayed out and I can't check them, however, I had a Sound Icon in my Taskbar previously that has for some odd reason simply disappeared, and since I can't check on it here, I can't seem to get it back in my Taskbar no matter where I look on the computer. How can I restore this option so that I have a Sound Icon in my Taskbar again, and are the other two features--Network and Power, a problem being that they too are grayed out?

Thanks for your help.

Hi everyone. I had my new desktop with Windows 7 Home 64bit for about 2 weeks now and so far im loving it. The one and only problem im having is the volume icon in the taskbar. I know its been posted several times before (i searched) but non of the solutions fixed my problem.

Sometimes when my Windows boots up, the volume icon is missing from the taskbar. I take a look in "turn system icons on or off" and the Volume, Network and Action Center are greyed out (cant click them.) It does this once every 2 or 3 reboots. The only way to fix it is to reboot. Its not a huge problem but its very annoying having to reboot 2 times.

Any ideas or solutions for my problem?

I have Firefox & IE pinned to the taskbar. Up until recently, if I clicked on either of the icons they would open but also leave the icon on the taskbar. I could then click it again & a new window would open.
Now if I click on one of the icons a window will open but the (plain) icon disappears.
I know I can press ctrl-n to open a new window but I had got used to just clicking the icon.
I also don't like unexplained behaviour.
I've checked for viruses etc & done sfc/scannow - all ok.
I can't think of anything I've done that would cause this change.
I have tried this;.............
"1. Right click anywhere on empty taskbar space, click on Toolbars and click on Links.
2. Again right click on top of Links and uncheck ?Show Text? and ?Show Title?.
3. Now you will see Internet explorer shortcut icon in taskbar.
4. Just beside to Internet explorer shortcut in taskbar, right click and click on ?Open Folder?.
5. Open Folder will open ?Favorites Bar? window.
6. Drag and drop the Mozilla firefox or other shortcut icons here to show up in taskbar."
It hasn't worked asif I click on one of them I get an 'open file - security warning'.
If I change 'properties > shortcut > advanced > run as administrator' then I get a UAC warning: 'do you want to allow the following program to make changes...etc'.

I ran VLC Media player and the Icon was like that [Check image].
So as some programs I run..

Is there any way to fix the icons?
If so.. Please give me a brief instruction so I will be able to understand and lessen the trouble for you people.

Answer:Taskbar running programs Icon problem.

Your icons look smaller than the default size - have you changed the icon size at all? If you have, it may be that these programs don't have the correct size icons, so the default 'no icon' icon is shown.

If I click Google Calendar, G-mail, maps, etc., these icons remain black, and all this opened windows just stack up in Chrome very messily.
The intention was to have them open in Chrome but FROM their taskbar-icon, so they're nice and neat and separate and always right there conveniently.

Hey all, my girlfriend is running Win 7 Home... she has always had the default Windows speaker "volume" icon down on her task bar by her clock. She uses it all the time to switch between her speakers and her headset, where she right clicks on the icon and selects "playback devices" and then changes between her soundcard/speakers and her usb headset.

Anyway, it disappeared last night.

Now open Taskbar, click on the "customize" link, get the window to select which icons appear... on the speaker "volume" icon under behaviors, it is set to "show icon and notifications"...

Then at the bottom click the link for "turn system icons on or off" and on that window, the icon is greyed out and set to OFF and it can not be changed to ON.

She's been bugging the heck out of me ever since to fix it.

We have no idea what changed it, or how it got changed.... we just know its been there and she's used it, for the past two years, and now its suddenly not there.

Any suggestions?

I'm having a big problem. I screwed something up with my taskbar and I can't undo it.

I logged on as usual. An annoying message popped up at the lower right corner of the desktop, above, not in, the taskbar, alerting me to something I should download and install that I have no intention of downloading and installing. In the past, each time I've logged on and this message has appeared, I have simply clicked on "cancel" or just clicked the X at its upper right corner. But this time, I must have taken leave of my senses! Instead of just right clicking the X in its right corner, I clicked something else on it and a message window popped up. That message window advised me to either "download" the irrelevant auxiliary toolbar I have no need of and will not download and install, or click "cancel". But it also offered me the chance to click a checkbox next to "do not show this message again on taskbar". At least that's what I recall it said. So I clicked on that, in an attempt to keep it from popping up every time I logged on (removing the annoying message from the action center each time it popped up upon logon never had the effect of preventing it from popping up again the next time I logged on, which is why I tried this "do not show ..." choice this time).

But once I did that, I found I am no longer able to make two things work on my desktop taskbar with the customary left clicks.

It no longer does ... Read more

I need help getting to the bottom of this, not sure why it's happening, or when it started happening, maybe a week ago...

I get a seemingly random icon flash on the taskbar for no more than a few miliseconds, so i checked
event viewer to track down what was happening and the only thing i can find is 2 events in the subcategory
Application that states the source as RestartManager
and the event ID as 10000 and 10001, these both appear every time the icon flashes on the taskbar

I think this issue is also causing fullscreen flash vids to show the taskbar and a loading circle on the cursor... also Battlefield 4 likes to get a black screen then when i alt-tab i'm back to the game without any crashing or any error besides this ominous
black screen

My problem is, when I drag the icon to the taskbar a popup asks me if I want to 'Pin to Internet Explorer'...this is the only option given.
If I drop the icon onto the taskbar it changes my 'Padlock' icon to that of Internet Explorer...Clicking on this IE icon still takes me to my Online Banking Login page but I find it confusing having an IE icon.

For two months I've sometimes seen an icon towards the lower middle part of my screen.  When it appears, the icon always stays in the foreground.  It's similar to the Caps Off icon that appears on the right.  This new icon is the same size and is also a black square except that the white symbol it contains looks like a half circle with lines projecting down like rays of light.  There's a slash across the symbol just like the slash on the Caps Off icon. What is this icon for and what can be done to remove it? I'm running Windows 7 on a E430 Lenovo ThinkPad. Thanks.

Answer:Strange icon appears (similar to the Caps Off icon in shape and color)

Hello and welcome,
That sounds like it's telling you that the ThinkLight is off - but I don't find any confirmation that your laptop even has a ThinkLight.  Odd.
You can try a right click on the desktop, Screen resolution, Advanced settings, and see if there's anything about that in the On screen display tab.
[edit] On machines that do have a ThinkLight of around the same vintage as yours, Fn+SPACEBAR toggles the light.  On earlier laptops it was Fn+Page Up. You might try fiddling with those keys.

Double check to make sure that you have the have the Services "Network

are not, then it can cause the Network icon to not function properly.

Okay. I had IE9 beta since release. So far VERY Impressed buy it. Only for the past few days i have been getting this problem.. Basically the Facebook logo does not appear correctly when i pin Facebook to my "Superbar". This is just for Facebook and does not apply for other pinable websites as shown in the picture, Twitter is working as it should.

Jumplist shortcuts are still working fine, the specific icons for each of the jumplist shortcuts are working correctly. I have tried doing a number of things;

-Waiting for it to blow over (recently twitter changed their icon and that took about a day for it to start appearing properly)

-Re/Uninstalling IE9

-Deleting ALL Browser information/History

Has anyone got any idea how to fix this? i have done some light searching around on the Internet for this but did not find anything. Thank you

Recently our secretary informed me that in the past 2-3 months she had a strange occurrence twice:
The 3040 micro (running windows 10) was locked and making a beeping sound (she couldn't describe the pattern, but must had been very noisy since she mistook it with an alarm going off)
On the monitor there was a blue (not 100% sure about the color) screen, with a big computer icon in the center, no description or text whatsoever, no windows taskbar or anything. Underneath this central icon, was a smaller one with a speaker icon that you could click on (from what she explained the mouse was working) muting the beeping sound.
The only escape route was the power button of the computer.
At first I thought it must have been the new Windows 10 BSOD. When I googled it though, I couldn't find any similar incident, the BSOD appears different from her description too. I checked the event log, but there was nothing critical or error that I couldn't account for. It has Kaspersky internet security installed and it's up to date so I doubt it's some virus/malware; Plus the computer is new (4-5 months).
Now I'm wondering if it was indicative of hardware failure or power surge. I asked her to take a photo next time she sees it, but I thought I'd ask here in the meantime.  - I've seen computers coming up with a screen from the MoBo informing me that the computer was locked in order to avoid damage from a power surge that just happened. Recently ran into major problem with Word 2000 SR-1.

Whenever I work on -- or try to -- on a .doc file, at the bottom of the screen in the taskbar that lists the page number, line, column, there is a small "book" icon with a pen, and as this pen moves across the book, I cannot edit the text, and the blinking cursor disappears until it ( the pen & book) *finally* decides to quit doing whatever its doing.

It has sat there and "wrote" for over 20 minutes before stopping. I can save and exit a .doc file, but just as soon as I reload it, and type anything, the "pen" starts writing.

What can I do to turn this annoyance off? Until its fixed I cannot use Word2K.

Answer:Word2K Taskbar "Book" icon -- Major Problem

That icon is for grammar and spelling. Under the Tools menu click on Options and then Grammar and Spelling to view your settings. Maybe if you play with those settings you will figure out a way to edit your document. Hopefully I've pointed you in the direction you need to go but I don't know what the solution is.

Lately Windows has started behaving really odd in the way it deals with pinning. It was fine when I first set up win10 but now it doesn't work properly.
I want to see if I can resolve this as I really don't feel like wiping and installing everything again.

The issue is that when I now pin anything to the start menu it creates a folder on the desktop called "Programs" and it places a shortcut to the item in there. If I delete the folder it removes the pinned start menu item.
It never used to behave like this. When I pinned something to the start menu it didn't have to create a desktop folder to place it in. It's very strange.

Anyone know why it's doing this?

Answer:Problem with pinning items to start menu in win10

The correct place for that Programs folder is:
C:\Users\<your_user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

If for some reason that location is inaccessible a folder on the desktop would seem to be the 'backup plan'.

First, try restarting your PC (not shutdown, do a proper restart). Still happens? Then try logging in with a different account, it may be a problem with just this one user profile.

WinXP (SP2)...

This may seem trivial to others, but:

I have several icons on the right side of my tray. I right-clicked on the taskbar and clicked "Properties". "Hide inactive icons" is checked. I clicked "Customize" and set certain icons to "Always show", "Always hide", or "Hide when inactive". In particular, I set the APC PowerChute icon to "Always hide". However, each time I re-boot the computer, it ALWAYS defaults to "Always show" and keeps showing in the tray. The other icons keep their settings.

Is there a registry setting where I can change that behaviour to "Always hide"?

Wish I had a better title, but I wasn't sure how to word this.

Basically what's happening is I have 2 instances of Firefox (different versions and different folder locations) and one of the instances is not opening where it's icon location is.

Example Screenshot:
As you can see. The far left instance does not want to open where it's icon location is.
The far right version always does it.
Even if I unpin the currently working instance (blue/orange icon) to only house 1 firefox instance (grey/black), the grey/black instance will still not open like the blue/orange instance current does (in it's own icon).
Hopefully this isn't confusing for anyone. I searched for a few terms to see if anyone had this problem and nothing came up, maybe I wasn't wording my searches correctly.

Hopefully someone can give some insights.

Hi, when i make new shortcut for download folder with *explorer* and *space* in front of the path name, right click on folder and pin to taskbar,
when the download folder open, at the same time opened another folder (separate) "this pc" and i don't know why. This happens on W8.1
not on W7.

On W7 it's very simple (with the same method but on w7 it work well). I have try many methods, but none of them work. Have any idea of how?
Image example:
Image: left folder is the pinned folder, and the right folder icon opens when i click on the left folder (W8.1).
Thank you.

Hello everyone,
There is a strange problem I am facing for quite a long time. Whenever I get connected to the internet using a dialup connection, the connection icon which used to come in the taskbar doesn't come. Also when I connect usb devices there is no device connection icon in the taskbar. The strange thing is that when I go to control panel and load "sound and audio device" and tick "place the volume icon in the taskbar", both internet connection icon and usb devices icon appear in the taskbar. Whenever I reboot the system, the volume icon disappears again, needing to re-tick the "place the volume icon in the taskbar" in the "sound and audio device". This is really annoying me. Kindly help me.

I have just re-installed my OS. After I installed Adobe Photoshop CS6 64 bit, I pinned it in my taskbar. The icon of the desktop shortcut looks good, but in the taskbar, this is how it looks:

How could I solve this problem?

Answer:The icon shows in taskbar as "unknown icon"

Hello barbu110 and welcome to Seven Forums.

It's possible that your icon cache became damaged or corrupt for some unknown reason. You could try rebuilding it and see what happens.

It's an XP system with an AMD Athlon 2000+, 1Gb RAM, so on, so forth.

Trouble is, the taskbar is acting very weird. I can't see any of the programs on the taskbar, and the Quick Launch area doesn't have a right end like my computer's does. Thus, I can't see any taskbar items other than the task area and clock. There is also the Language bar thing, but it's on the other side.

Answer:Strange XP Taskbar...

Oh, and if I remove the Quick Launch, the whole taskbar disappears!
