How to permanently disable graphics card

Question: How to permanently disable graphics card

My laptop supports two graphics card AMD Radeon(TM) HD 6470M and Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 and after a while the AMD got corrupted(I already updated it but I think it's hardware problem) and causes blue screen so I disabled it in safe mode(because it uses the intel one).

I tried a clean install of Windows 7 and during installation AMD causes blue screen because it gets enabled.

And now I want to try a clean install of the Windows 10. Question is, is there anyway I could disable the graphics card permanently?

I use a 64-bit Sony Vaio Laptop VPCSB26FG with a Windows 7 Home Premium OS. Thanks a lot!

Preferred Solution: How to permanently disable graphics card

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Some games when played use the Integrated Graphics card instead of my NVIDIA. How can I SAFELY disable my Intel HD Graphics 4600 Integrated Graphics Card?   Thanks

Answer:510p How to safely disable Intel HD Graphics 4600 Integrated Graphics Card

In the Nvidia control panel go to the manage 3D settings. There is a pull down menu in there under global settings and choose the Nvidia GPU. This will use the 750m for all 3D applications.

I recently purchased an Acer Veriton (M498G) desktop which has an i5-650 processor, Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) and Intel HD Graphics listed as the video card. I also purchased a PNY nVIDIA Quadro FX 380 PCI-E card for improved picture editing and home video viewing and editing. I have already replaced the original 300 wattt power supply to a 430 watt Antec Truepower I had on hand and boosted the RAM to 8 gigs from the original 4.

Question 1) Am I getting any improvement in visual quality or system speed with the Quadro or is it a waste of money and I should just save up to buy a bigger video card? This card was on sale for $115.

If I am getting improvement then I need to ask another question.

Question 2) Instructions for the Quadro installation are as follows...

1--Uninstall the existing VGA driver.
-Remove the existing Display Driver via "Add or Remove Porgrams".
-Shut down your computer.

2--Remove your Existing Graphics Board (or Disable Integrated 3D Graphics Controller).

skipping instructions on how to remove existing graphics board

-Systems with integrated (also know as on-board) 3D graphics may require you to disable the integrated 3D graphics system. Consult the owners or vendor manual that came with your PC on how to properly do this.

So how do I disable the onboard? just uninstall the driver? The only driver I can find on the uninstall menu is "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver" does this sound correct? I did find the option in BIOS and ... Read more

Answer:how to disable Intel HD Graphics to install PCI-E graphics card

It's likely to be an improvement, but check it and see.
Onboard graphics are disabled in the BIOS (Try looking under "Integrated Peripherals" or something similar.
You probably don't need to do this, but it's nice to know how.

I have no idea how to do this and the Gateway email support keep sending me answers to questions I didn?t ask. Also, once I disable the Integrated Graphics will I be able to navigate thru Windows to re-enable them if the graphics card should for whatever reason not work?

Answer:Disable Integrated Graphics/Install Graphics Card

you'll have to disable it in the bios (i think its either F2, F10, or F12...tap this as soon as you turn your computer on). you'll need to disable it first, shutdown, installing the pci card, then boot up.

sometimes, the onboard graphics card will automatically disable itself when the board detects another video card.

I just plugged my monitor into the new card (HD4770) and it works, did not disable or uninstall the integrated graphics. the integrated is a NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE chipset. The performance index went higher on paper but other than having better resolution I don't see a huge improvment. I still have video lag trying to watch streaming hd movies and my new camera (Panasonic Lumix ZS7) wont play video in HD over my computer. Must I disable and even uninstall the old integrated graphics too or am I missing something else?

Answer:I just installed a new graphics card, must I disable the old integrated graphics?

Have a look in your bios to see if it has an option to boot from pci-e or intergrated.
What is the motherboard you are using?

Answer:How Do I disable my built in Graphics Card

Depends on your mobo - some will automatically turn it off, others you have to set "Init Display First" to either PCI or AGP, search for somthing like that in your BIOS, usually under integrated peripherals..

Hi, I need to disable my onboard video card through BIOS, to install my new graphics card. How would I go along doing so?

Answer:How do I disable my graphics card through BIOS

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

You could try reading your mobo manual.

If you don`t have one you may be able to download one from your mobo manufacturers web site.

Failing that during bootup try pressing either the F2 or delete keys to get into bios.

Then just search around to find your onboard graphics disable it then save and exit.

Answer:I need advice on how to disable a sis graphics card.

first, what do you mean when you said UPGRADED my video card??are you talking about onboard video adapter,an older card,or 2 cards on one system.
most likely i think you are referring to onboard chipset-usually there are 2 option to disable an onboard vga card.either you can check the bios and disable it from there depending on which bios you have the second is to change the jumper on your mobo if the option is present to disable it from your mobo.you might want to try googling a bit to find out about your mobo.to find out which mobo you have first you'll need to find out which chipset you have intel, via???? then download a utility which will help you check your mobo.

Hello I posted a thread for a friend some time ago, please see below. He has purchased a new card, but when we accessed the BIOS,we were unable to find an option to disable the onboard graphics card. The first option we accessed was Intergrated Peripherals .There were three sub options Onboard IDE Device Onboard PCI Device and Onboard Super IO Device. Each was accessed, but still no disable option. The second option was Advanced Chipset Features.Whwn accessed there were two sub options AGP Aperture Size 128mb and Onboard Frame Buffer 64mb.His graphics card is using 64mb,is the Frame Buffer the disbale option?.Also does the Aperture Size mean he can only use Graphics Cards with onboard memoty of 128mb max?.Sorry for asking again .Many thanks,IQS--------------------------------------------------Hi ,A friend has the following intergrated graphics card/mother board installed ,ATI RADEON 9100 IGP.He would like to install a new card, but what is the correct installation procedure please.Currently the card is using 64 mb of system memory. He is aware it is not as simple as removing a seperate graphics card.Any simple clear advice please : ) .Thank you,Greg via IQS

Answer:disable onboard graphics card

Inserting a graphics card may automatically disable the onboard graphics. You can set the AGP aperture size in the Bios at 64MB or 128MB without affecting the card's performance.

I have the manual for the motherboard and it does not state hoe to disable the graphics. If I uninstall the current graphic card driver and then install the new graphics card and load the new driver for that graphics card will that automatically detect the new card or will the motherboard still try and use the onboard graphics?

I run Windows XP and have an ATI Radeon 9200 series graphics card. Recently I reset the computer to factory settings and set up 2 users as before, one with limited access and the other, naturally, as an administrator and everything works fine except whenever the limited access user logs on they get a message from Desktop Help recommending TV display is disabled.I have followed the on screen instructions but cannot enable or disable it because the relevant button is greyed out. I have checked/unchecked the box at bottom left in Desktop Help which says 'show window at start up when TV display is enabled ' but the message keeps on appearing. Have also reloaded the original CD and am informed that more up to date drivers are already installed on the computer so have not pursued this any further. I have reversed account types on both users and each time it is only a problem with the limited access user, it seems as if the computer recognises the monitor is not enabled for TV display in admin mode but is in Limited access. It is not a huge problem but does anyone know how to fix it please.CheersPaul

I am building a PC using a mixture of new and used parts for my daughter.I have a graphics card with DVI but can't find the settings in the mobo bios to disable the on-board video and activate the AGP slot. The manual and the MSI website are no help. Also is it true that the nVidia graphics drivers are all the same and I can use the existing one for the new card?

Answer:Graphics card for MSI K7N420PRO, disable on-board?

Its best if you uninstal the drivers then instal the agp card then reinstal drivers. The motherboard should just automatically disable onboard graphics when you instal into agp slot.I have an MSI board and that is what happened to meWas under misapprehension that you didnt have to reinstal drivers even though they are both nvidia, just use it as an excuse to load latest drivers available.

According to the owners manual the first few lines of the BIOS/System Setup section indicates that the amount of memory dedicated to the integrated graphics and the ability to enable or disable it are options in the BIOS.  The BOOT method is Legacy instead of UEFI, the BIOS has been reset, default options loaded, etc and no where are the specified options visible.  BIOS is version A7 which I believe was the version that it was shipped with and the latest.  This is not a huge issue, but the fact that the option is missing from BIOS and needlessly using a bit of RAM is enough to see if anybody is aware of an issue.
I haven't contact support yet as I just got the box yesterday as a replacement machine at work.  I have already torn the thing apart looking for the old school jumper method of turning off the integrated graphics with no luck there either.

Answer:No way to disable integrated graphics on Vostro 270S when using PCIe addon card

Just a bit more information.  The add-on card is a NVidia NVS280 or NVS285 LP with pigtails to dual VGA.  With monitors hooked up to that card it has worked perfectly fine so far.  I haven't tried one monitor on the integrated card and the other on the card to verify both are still working, but the Intel integrated graphics still shows up in device manager and is using system memory.

hey guys,

sorry about the goofy title I was trying to get as much in as possible. I have recently built a custom system for music storage, gaming, and word processing....

I have been having tons of problems with this system! One of my ram sticks was bad (after I tried 2 different xp install disks I figured it was a hardware problem..), my netgear card isn't working or is just a P.O.S. and now my graphics card is giving me headaches.

The graphics card I am running is a EVGA 7600gs, 256mb - PCI express (it was a good deal at the time)...

When I boot up the computer and enter windows the graphics card doesn't work and I am running off the stock drivers from XP...

If I go to the device manager I get a "Device cannot start (code 10)" message.

After uninstalling and installing the drivers various times, and updating the drivers with new releases from Nvidia, its still not working properly.

It will work right after I install the drivers for it, but if I restart my computer, it won't work again.

I figured out that if I restart my computer and go to device manager and click "disable" and the click "enable" the graphics card works fine but won't allow me to adjust any settings for a few minutes or until after I run a game like Metal of Honor, or Battlefield.

Does anybody know what gives?

~mikeym

Hi all!

I've just joined this forum so that I can gather information about my current problem.

As the title says, I cannot disable proxy permanently.
I go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Internet options > Connections > LAN and I see what the image displays here. Nothing special so far.

I untick Use a proxy server for your LAN. Click Ok, and I quit Control Panel.
If I visit the same panel 2 minutes later, this option is enabled again.

And because of this, I cannot disable proxy on Google Chrome, either.

I've tried many things to solve this problem.
For example, I went to Advanced, and deleted everything there. I clicked OK, then an error message popped up saying: Do you want to turn off proxy connection? I click yes- I go back 30 sec later and it's enabled again.
I even tried some tricks in registry. Still nothing.

I want to disable it permanenty, as it's my private computer, using proxy isn't useful for me.

Any ideas? Why does it always come back?
By the way, I use WiFi connection.

Answer:Cannot disable proxy permanently

Hello and welcome to SevenForums,

search for this option "network.proxy.type",

change the value to 0

I have a Toshiba 64-bit laptop running Windows 10 Home.
Some time ago, I spent DAYS getting Cortana disabled and turned off on my laptop. And now after this last update, MS in it's infinite stupidity has turned it back on.
I've looked at instructions on the internet on how to do disable it and they say to click on an icon on the taskbar. That doesn't exist on my computer.
I went into Settings and turned everything I could find pertaining to Cortana OFF but it is still running in the Task Manager and, of course, when I turn it off there, it starts right back up again.
I bought and paid for this computer and I wish MS would stop acting like it belongs to them and stop fixing things that aren't broken.
And this follows right on the heels of MS updating my email account without notifying me and as a result lost about 400 of my emails with no way to retrieve them.
I am not a happy camper.
Please do not give me Techie directions on how to do this. I'm not a Techie. I need simple 1, 2, 3 instructions. Actually, what I need is for MS to stop screwing with my computer.
You cannot imagine how aggravating it is to spend more time fixing MS problems than problems with all other applications combined.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

The problem is, every time I turn on my computer, I have to go into Task Manager to end about FIFTY processes I don't want being run.
How do I make it so that those processes won't get activated when the computer is turned on so that I don't have to keep doing that every single time.

Answer:How do you disable processes permanently?

After going through this myself, from WIn98 thru WinXP Pro, and trying all the recommendations recieved, the only one I have found that works is a nice little program called winpatrol www.winpatrol.com
It will allow you to stop any operation from loading, tell you all you want to know about the programs loading and running on your system, and keep track of anything trying to install or load onto your system. The freeby is nice, however I recommend that you pay the small fee and get the full program. Read the help file, and start stopping all that resource drain I'm sure you have.
Hope this helps.

Hey, I know that ctfmon.exe isn't actually malware, but I don't use / need it and it's taking up some of my system's resources. If I disable it in msconfig, it turns itself back on. If I disable it in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services, it turns itself back on. If I delete the file, it replaces itself. I've Googled it and haven't been able to find a solution that works on my computer. I'm running Windows XP, if that helps. Any suggestions are appreciated!

hi, I have a problem with my webcam on a acer 3935 with win7 x64.

The webcam is broken and i really dont care, but it keeps switching in and out all the time, and it makes me crazy! A massage in the systemtray pops up saying "unknown device" and if I go to device manager I can see it swiching on and off all along.

I tryed disable and uninstall in devicemanager, but it is reinstalls automaticly at restart.

Is there any way to uninstall it permanently or do I have to physicaly remove it (because thats a problem)?

Answer:Disable webcam permanently

Hrmm..
You have "tried" to disable it in device manager and what happens?
Because that's your best bet in disabling it..
Dont uninstall it, or yet it will try to reinstall the drivers everytime you do that.

not sure this is the right forum . i do not have a problem with malware, unless this IntelliTXT pop up ad thing is malware it makes ads pop up on underlined text when you are reading on a website. when your mouse touches over where the underlined word is it pops up an ad. it drives me crazy because i use my mouse to point and follow along when i read, i dont know what that is called but it helps me keep up with my place on the page. so i guess i want to know if any one knows how i can get rid of this . the only thing the website lets you do is download a cookie that disables it, but as soon as you close and reopen the website it reinstalls its self so you really just have to disable it on every website every time you open them. do you know of any way to permanetly disable this annoyance. THANK YOU!

Answer:IntelliTXT help me permanently disable this!

It's not malware but people have other names for it which I will not repeat.

You can read about this software from Vibrant Media in the below two links and you can look into using somekind of ad blocking/filtering software or addons for your browser as mentioned in this links:

hi guys,

I have protected my pc at work and locked it down so that no employee can access windows 8. Only problem is that yesterday I accidently pressed reset button midway whilst windows was loading and it brought up the safe mode screen. Since I have a full backup image of my drive, I can always reload my preferred setup whenever I want via usb install, so I don't want windows to run into safe mode at all - EVEN IF IT MEANS I COULD LOSE DATA!

My question is How can I disable this safemode feature from starting at all if windows crashes?

Thank You

Answer:How do i permanently disable safe mode?

If your system as good secure password, they are no need to do it, aside if someone have physical access to your PC, you can't stop them to simply reset your password with tools very easy to find on Google, so the physical access is something you have to considerate too. Lock the door, disable booting from a USB stick ( make sure to password the BIOS) Remove the DVD

Could anyone tell me how to permantly disable inprivate browsing for IE8. i have win7

Answer:Permanently disable IE8 Inprivate browsing

The first choice is to use another browser like Mozilla Firefox. If that is not an option, I can only recommend a few places to look. I only use IE8 occasionally, but I turned off inprivate browsing and compatibility during installing/initializing when I first installed Windows 7 and first initialized IE8. The first place I see a reference is:tools, internet options, privacy tab and you will see a few check boxes to uncheck. The second place I see it is under Safety, InPrivate Filtering Settings and check in there.

NO security updates for IE8 in a YEAR - a person would have to be crazy to connect it to the internet.A huge security flaw in Windows was announced months ago, dating back to 2000, with CRITICAL fixes released - just not for Windows XP or Server 2003. Add an unpatched IE8 to that - watch out.Simply uninstalling IE8 will not do, that leaves the even less secure IE6 included in Windows XP SP3 still in place.message edited by MacGruber

My acer laptop has a touch sensitive screen. Recently i was involved in a car accident and the screen developed as small crack on the bottom right corner of the screen. though that did not affect the visuals, it affected the touch sensors because it was now as if a hundred fingers were clicking on every item on my desktop at the same time and there was nothing i could do, i couldn't open anything or close anything. In a stroke of luck there were a few seconds were there was nothing being clicked, and i quickly managed to access the drivers of the touchscreen and i disabled them and i have been using it perfectly as a normal laptop. But now i want to re-install my windows and i know once i re-install, the drivers also will be re activated during installation and i might never have the luck i had to be able to deactivate them. is there a way i can permanently remove the touchscreen driver so that even if i reload windows it wont be activated. Please help, any help appreciated. thank you in advance.

Just to clarify, the proxy server settings are found at -
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Internet Options\Connection\LAN settings\Proxy server
or
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Internet Options\Connection\LAN settings\Proxy server
If i uncheck this box, my internet starts working again, but after a while it will randomly recheck by itself. How do i fix this? I am on windows 8.1 home 64bit.

Something is obviously resetting it - might be worth a scan for virus, malware and rootkits first.

As the title states I would like to find a way of setting my keyboard to always have NumLock to be on. Not just at boot up. I am aware of the registry setting that accomplishes this at boot (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard\InitialKeyboardIndicators) but that isn't cutting it.

I would like to eliminate the possibility of hitting the button at all, and if necessary disable it keeping it on at all times. Another way of saying this is that I want the number pad to only work for numbers.

I spend about an hour google fu'ing and haven't found anything outside of the before mentioned setting.

Any ideas? Thank you for your help!

Dont think it is IPv6 that is conflicting and really soon you are going to need IPv6 (read about IPv4 running out of addresses in google).

Hi, In the T500 BIOS Setup is the option: Security:Computrace: Computrace Module Activation with 3 possible values:Enabled (default?)DisabledPermanently Disabled I think I understand how Computrace BIOS works: on boot the BIOS checks and makes sure the necessary drivers/services are present in the OS filesystem before the supported OS boots. The Computrace service then runs "hidden" in the OS and periodically phones home. What I'd like to know is what happens if I select the BIOS option "Permanently Disabled". Is the Computrace checker/loader deleted from the BIOS? Is it possible to ever turn Computrace back on at a later date, perhaps by flashing the BIOS? Thanks,Frank

I believe its causing me to crash in certain applications, the option to disable is not available in services.msc

Group policy maybe? Or registry?

Answer:Disable Desktop Window Manager (dwm.exe) permanently

You do not want to disable it. I highly doubt that DWM.exe is the culprit. The fact that Windows 10 is still in trials until final release out into the wild after 7/29. You will have issues until third party software manufacturers get on board with making their software compatible with Windows 10.

Hi All,

I like to know how to disable the automatic updates in my computer permanently..
When i start my computer, automatic updates is getting enabled automatically and i have to manually disable the automatic updates..
Kindly tell me a way to turn off permanently..

Regards
WInston

Answer:[SOLVED] How to disable the automatic updates permanently

Hey Winston,

The way i did this is to Turn Off Automatic updates in the control panel, then disable the update service:
- Start by opening the Control panel
> Click "Automatic Updates"
> Ensure it's set to "Turn Off Automatic Updates"
> Click OK
- Now Click Start->Run
> Type "services.msc", press enter.
> Find the "Automatic Updates" item(service)
-> Right click it->Click Properties
-> Change the "Startup Type" Dropdown to "Disabled"
(This next bit is optional but i did it aswell)
> Find the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service"//"BITS"
->Right click it->Click Properties
-> Change the "Startup Type" Dropdown to "Manual"
(Manual because i couldn't work out what else was using BITS[other that Automatic updates], and if there is something that depends on the service it can still be started just by starting the service)

Anyway, then if you want to update you simply change both to "manual" and start them then update.

Cheers,
Jamey

Just bought the HP Spectre x360 13-4195dx (13" convertible Laptop), and have updated the BIOS and windows 10. I always disable the "tap to click" feature of the laptop, but everytime i  restart the laptop, the tap to click reenables itself. I've tried to create a profile in the synaptics settings but that doesnt work either. Has anyone figured out how to permanently disable this feature? Thanks for your help.

Answer:How to Permanently Disable "Tap To Click" on Synaptics Touch...

I've found it!!! For any one looking for a solution to permanently disable the synaptics tap to click.... go to windows registry (search for regedit)expand "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"expand "SOFTWARE"expand "SYNAPTICS"expand "SynTP"Click on "Install"Under "Install" double click on "DeleteUserSettingsOnUpgrade" and change the value data from "1" to "0"this will make it so that when u restart your HP, your tap to click stays disabled. Becareful with the windows registry, if you dont know what your doing and you start to change values on things you shouldnt it can adversely affect your system.

Hi!
My friend uses in his Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 device which driver has no digital signature and when he select not at begin of boot disable driver signature enforcement, his device works not and in Device Manager is exclamation mark that device cannot work for driver signature missing.
So, when Windows starts he must always hit F8 to view advanced boot options and select this:

I have same problem with other device but in Windows 10.1607 Pro x64. I used BootUI Tuner to show advanced boot options always and I must hit 7 (or F7) to do the same - disable driver signature enforcement.

So, Q is simple: Is possible to disable driver signature enforcement permanently in Windows 7 and Windows 10? If, how?
Thank you for each help.
Miro

Answer:How to permanently disable driver signature enforcement?

Not that I have ever seen or possibility of leaving you system open to infections since it is probably not only drives that is protects. Most coding like that protect drives and software.

Why not just download the driver from the manufactures site and remove the one giving the issue and replace.

Hello,My B590 laptop is my writing computer, and the lid sensor has been going bad for some time. The screen will randomly turn itself off then back on--sometimes extremely often--and it's gotten to the point that I can't really use it. So, my question is, how do I just permanently disable the lid sensor? It's obviously a magnetic switch, but I'm not sure if simply removing the sensor will do, as I don't know if its default is a closed circuit and simply removing it will make the laptop interpret that as the lid constantly being closed. I'm a fairly advanced user with a lot of experience with soldering and rewiring circuits as well as working on circuit boards, so if the solution involves something a little more advanced, I'm definitely up for it. I'm also willing and able to replace the sensor itself, rather than just disabling it, if the sensor is easily ordered and reasonably priced. Also, please read the background below before attempting to help me troubleshoot. Thanks!Jack MurphyBackground: The issue is definitely that the computer thinks the lid is being closed. If my power settings say to put the computer in sleep mode when the lid is closed, the moment the glitch happens, it will go into sleep mode. It's not a software issue, as I did a factory reset/reinstall, and the problem persisted. I took apart the laptop, reseated all the connections, gently pulled and moved the wires to test for shorts but found none. I also used a strong magnet on the sensor to attempt t... Read more

How about setting the "lid close" action to do nothing.  How to do it depends on the OS, but a google search should get you started.

Hello,

3 days back, I noticed a new process called "isupdate.exe" listed under processes using up network, in resource monitor. Around the same time, google chrome started acting weird. These are the things I noticed:

1) Google search results in my desktop are different from those in my laptop (which is working fine). For example, when I search for "calculator", in my Laptop I get an actual calculator in the results which I can use. Whereas in my desktop, I just get links for other websites.

2) Videos in websites other than youtube don't play, they get stuck at loading forever. When I play a video, "isupdate.exe" starts eating up the whole network.

3) When I do "end process" to this "isupdate.exe" in Resource monitor, I'm no longer able to access internet. In Chrome i get "Unable to connect to proxy server" error. the same with Internet Explorer.

I started searching the web for this issue and I found that it may be caused by a malware. I have tried the following things so far (as per various forums on this topic):

1) Going to safe mode and modifying the registry key value of "proxyEnable" under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings to "0".
But when I restart and go back to normal mode, in internet options, under Connections>LAN settings> the "Use a proxy server for your LAN"  box is checked and greyed out. I cannot uncheck this in normal mode. (attached image). and yet the regis... Read more

I forgot to mention one other thing:

I use the same network (using wifi router) in my laptop and there is no such problem there. So i guess it rules out the problem being with the router?
