Pinning programs to the RIGHT of the taskbar?

Question: Pinning programs to the RIGHT of the taskbar?

Is this possible? By default, pins lock to the left side, but is it possible to lock SOME of the programs to the right? (Not in the notification area)

Preferred Solution: Pinning programs to the RIGHT of the taskbar?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Pinning programs to taskbar

Yes, open start menu, and type the name of the program you want. Right-click it, select advanced, and pin to taskbar.

I am trying to pin a document to the taskbar. However, what gets pinned is the program that opens the document and not the document itself, so instead of just clicking on the icon to open the document I need to right click on it and then select the document.

Is there any way to pin the document itself so that clicking on the icon will open the document?

Answer:Pinning documents to taskbar instead of programs

No, but you can choose document from jump list...
Right click on the program icon and jump list with recent opened files will pop up...

I installed Word 2013 onto a new computer some time ago. Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. Pinning has never worked. I can drag, I can right click and select pin, I can do whatever I want, but nothing appears and it just stays blank. Neither do recently opened items show up on a right click of the icon. Pinning/recent items works on everything else (e.g. Adobe, Explorer), including Outlook. I tried reinstalling but it still wouldn't work. I couldn't find much to go on so I gave up and have done without pinning. Recently I turned on "store and display recently opened items in the start menu and the taskbar" and suddenly I was given another clue as to what the issue is - Excel still shows nothing BUT in Word's recent items I'm getting *Adobe* files (see screenshot, file names removed for privacy): I can pin adobe files to word's icon. I googled again and I still don't see anything about this but I'm just wondering if anyone has come across this and can help. Thanks in advance!

Question: Pinning to taskbar

Not a huge issue more of just something i was curious about, why cant the "computer" desktop icon be pinned to the taskbar? I know that it is possible to pin the windows explorer but i want it to have the computer icon or at least the c drive icon.

Answer:Pinning to taskbar

I haven't found the reason why it's not possible to pin the Computer icon to the superbar. Maybe it's because it belongs in the explorer - who knows. You can pin it, though, if you really want to. There are some guides already posted around here somewhere. You basically create a shortcut, then point that shortcut to where the My Computer icon points to, then pin it to the superbar.

Question: Pinning To Taskbar

Hi All

I am new to windows 8 but have been finding my way around, One problem I am finding is that some websites I visit to "Pin To Taskbar" seem to only show a blank icon! No name but text but when you change the text it doesn't change on the icon? strange one particular site is the Nationwide bank page cannot seem to get an icon with a name on it?

Anybody got any ideas as to why this happens on only a few sites?

Answer:Pinning To Taskbar

Hello Gatewaya, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It depends on what favicon is used by the site for what icon the URL shortcut will have on the middle of it's page icon. I have a icon for Nationwide bank for me, so you might see if deleting your temporary internet files and history and reloading the site may help.

If you like, you could also pin the site in the jump list of the browser's icon on the taskbar.

Hi guys, I'm having a serious problem here. I wanted to add a folder to my windows explorer pinned folders so that I can right click on the windows explorer icon on the taskbar and have my popular folders right there. When I first setup windows 7, I did this by right clicking on the folders I wanted and clicking "Pin to Taskbar." Now, when I right click on folders, there is no such option. Even libraries only have the option to "Pin To Start Menu" which is strange because I had already pinned a library to the windows explorer icon on the task bar, which means that must have been an option before because I don't know how else I would do it. Can someone please explain to me how I can add more folders to the windows explorer icon? This is very frustrating

Answer:Pinning To Taskbar??

I'm currently having a problem where pinning any kind of shortcut to the taskbar via its context menu doesn't do anything. That is, a pin doesn't appear on the taskbar, and in the location '%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar' no shortcut file is created.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Professional from Windows 7 Professional. That may be the cause.
Another potential factor is that previously, I have followed this guide (using both methods described) in order to further customize my system. The reason I mention that is because in researching I read the answer posted here. Unfortunately, I have not been able to fix the problem by undoing the first method of that guide; also there is no way to undo the second method of that guide, and I have been unsuccessful in fixing the problem by following the solution that answer describes (I couldn't find the 'Inkfile' folder). By the way, is it wrong that the 'link' key I deleted in following the process to undo the first method hasn't reappeared after restarting?

I'm not sure what to try next.
I would really appreciate some help... sorry to be foolish enough to try and customize my system a bit, if that is what caused this issue.
For now, I guess I'll have to use shortcut toolbars on my taskbar. Or is there a registry location where I can at least go in and, say, add a key with a shortcut address and icon address to add a pin with those properties?

Thanks in advance,

I installed Windows 7 recently and am finally making it look and behave the way I like except for one thing I would appreciate help with.

You see, I'm on dial-up... Don't laugh it's still the only thing available where I live.

When I had Windows Vista and before that I always had shortcut icon in my taskbar I could click on to connect or to check the state of my connection. Now I have to click on the Network Sharing Center in the right hand corner, and it takes me 3 more clicks before I'm finally connected. I have to go through the same routine to check if I'm still connected or what speed I connected at. Also, I don't always manage to connect on the first try so I have to go through that routine many times. I did manage to create a shortcut by opening Adapter Settings and creating one from there but the problem is Windows 7 wont let me pin that shortcut to the taskbar. I don't know what is worse... Having to go through the 3 or 4 cliks to connect, or having to stare at that huge dial-up shortcut all the time on my otherwise pristine desk top? Oh, and thanks for the little file that allowed me to remove the Libraries Icon from my desktop. Was really happy to find that little gem.

Any suggestion with my current problem would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Pinning a Dial-up Shortcut to taskbar

I'm not certain as to what specific area you need to have open to, but maybe this will help. It will allow you to create a shortcut that opens directly to your "Network Connections", and you can pin it to the taskbar.

Something weird has happened to my taskbar. I have a few programs pinned there and everything was okay. Then today I unpinned Firefox from there because I wanted to change the icon I was using. After deciding I didn't like it I tried to go back to the one I was using but when I pinned it back to the task bar this problem occurred:

As you can see when I click on the silver Firefox icon, it opens up a new firefox icon (default icon) in a separate place, taking up unnecessary space. I can't figure out how to make it go back to the way it was where everything stayed within the silver icon.

Answer:Strange problem with pinning an icon to taskbar

It is indeed the browser being opened but the problem is it used to open up within the silver icon (the default firefox icon you see to the right has basically taken its place). It's a bit of an annoyance because it takes up the little space I have on my taskbar before things start getting combined and messy.

Sorry if what I'm explaining is confusing, it would probably be easier to show with a video or something.

Hello everyone,

First post here and thanks for allowing me to be a part of the community!

My first question is while attempting to pin a website to the task bar in Edge I followed the directions and selected the "3 dots menu" and then selected "open with IE" option as instructed.

When I click on the webpage icon in the task bar the site indeed comes up but it is in Internet Explorer rather than Edge. Is there any way I can pin the site to the task bar and have it launch in Edge rather than IE? I understand it opens in IE because I opened the website in Edge and then told it to open with IE.

When I tried pinning the tab to the task bar in Edge I got the universal red circle with the line through it so I couldn't pin it unless I opened it in IE.

Ive noticed when I pin a website to the Start Menu that it will open in Edge. Is it not possible to have this happen by using the task bar?

Thanks so much for your help.

Appreciate interacting with you folks very much.

Sergey Tkachenko has created quite the number of programs for Windows 7 and Windows 8 that tweak various functionalities. To name a few: Skip Metro to bypass the start screen on logon, Close Threshold to close Windows 8 apps comfortable or Taskbar Pinner to pin anything to the taskbar.

AutoPin Controller takes care of another issue that you may experience when using the Windows 8 operating system. Whenever you install software on Windows 8, shortcuts are added to the start screen of the operating system. This may be handy considering that the start screen is the new start menu of the operating system, but sometimes also inappropriate if you do not want a program to add one or multiple shortcuts to the start screen.

While you won?t see as many shortcuts as on the ?All Apps? page of the system, it may still be something that you do not desire, for instance if you prefer to have full control over what gets added where on the start screen.

Windows 8 offers no built-in option to block program installations from adding shortcuts to the start screen. That?s where AutoPin Controller for Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro comes into play (you can?t install desktop applications on Windows RT).

While it does not provide you with a permanent on or off switch, it is still noteworthy because it is a first. You need to run the program and select the ?Lock Pint to start screen feature? to block any program from adding shortcuts to the system?s start screen. Once you have made ... Read more

Answer:No Programs in taskbar

If the programs you use have icons on the desktop, just drag the icon to the taskbar and drop it in an open area to the left of the double line or between existing generic icons. That will not remove it from the DT. You can also drag and drop the TB icons so as to rearrange their order across the bar, as well as delete any you decide you do not need by using the right click menu.

I'm running Windows XP Home. Yesterday I was playing a game and I noticed some sudden gameplay and graphic glitches. I uninstalled and reinstalled, but still had the same problems. The most annoying problem is that absolutely no program shows up on the taskbar and any program I minimize disappears. I tried Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! and got the following error message, "run-time error '462' the remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable". I tried three different system restore points, all of which failed. Is there anything I can do to fix all of this? Thanks for any help.

my friend had a problem where she could not see active running programs listed on the taskbar.

I think she did some tingling around. she told me first she lost her taskbar (lol) somewhere (probably just moved it to some place else).

now the taskbar is back and looks like normal. but when a running program is minimized it is not listed in the taskbar.

I did not get a chance to see her computer, so I don't get much of the picture. anyone has any ideas?

Hey Everyone,

So a few days ago randomly my computer sort of froze and I was on teamspeak at the time. After that, on teamspeak I was continuously transmitting (I use a push to talk button on my mouse which totally cancelled out).

So I restarted my computer thinking it was just a bug. Same happened, except when I boot now My task bar down the bottom is completely unresponsive, I can't click on it or do anything. The only way it becomes responsive is if I Cntrl + alt + delete and then click cancel.

Then after a little while (It's always random) every program will seem as if it's frozen up apart from the program I currently have on top (I use two monitors and i can't click on anything except the program I'm on, ranging from a game to my documents.

Now to what I have done//tested.. I truly am stuck for ideas.
I've Reinstalled Teamspeak (I thought that was the original problem)
Virus scanned with 3 different programs, Nothing showed up.
De-fragged my HDD
Re-installed windows (Fresh on my SSD)
Unplugged my hard drive (incase it was a problem on that)
Tried a different mouse
Done a Memtest to see if it was my ram or something, it wasn't.

I'm open for idea's as this problem is driving me insane >.<

Is there any way I can have my pinned programs on the taskbar separated from the programs that are running? I saw on my friends computer that all the programs he had open were on the right. The icons to start the programs were still on the left. So, when I click on, say, Chrome, the pinned taskbar icon remains unchanged. Instead, a new instance is opened on the far right. When several programs are opened, they are all grouped together. Unlocking the taskbar allows you to drag the barrier between the "opened" and the "available" sections.

I hope I'm making sense. I don't have a screenshot to show what I mean. Thanks all

Answer:Taskbar - open programs on the right

Ok, I'm not entirely sure and if I don't help then feel free to disregard but here's the approach I would take. First enable quick launch to lauch your programs from: Quick Launch - Enable or Disable

Next get rid of all of your icons from where they are pinned on your taskbar (once they are transfered to your quicklaunch)

Then I would use this tutorial to get the programs to be where you want: Taskbar - Center Icons

If you want I can show you what it would look like. Just let me know

Hello, In my lower right-hand corner, next to the clock, my system programs (network bars, volume, battery life, AVG anti-virus, Safely Remove Hardware, Intel Graphics, Audio Controls, WLAN: On, Synaptics Pointing Device, Adobe Updates, etc, etc.) are spread out across the taskbar. They used to be in a drop down list with only an up arrow appearing. And I could call them up with the arrow at anytime. Prior, I only had about 3 items showing at any given time and could bring up any others with the drop down menu. How do I get them all back in the drop down list on the far right side next to the clock? The clock has never moved. Thank you!

Some programs don't show up when selecting start-programs.

With Win95/98 if you select .....start-settings-taskbar-advanced
you can click on programs and see the entire list
of installed programs.

Going to the same location with xp displays more of an explorer window. If I search for awhile I can usually find the program.

Is there a way to set it up like Win95/98 ?

I am probably missing something obvious.

Answer:Programs - taskbar list

cright click the start button and select classic view. That will change it back to the view you are use to.

I've seen this in both Windows 8.1 and 10. Some programs get stuck behind the taskbar, like VLC, Spotify, Opera, and Powershell.
I want to have the taskbar at the upper edge of the screen, and it's not set to hide automatically.
Screenshot of Powershell and Spotify stuck behind the taskbar.

Answer:Why are my programs stuck behind the taskbar?

Just tried it here with the task bar at top and no auto-hide. Power Shell does get it's title bar up under the task bar when you open it, but as soon as you resize it even a little it pops out from underneath. Definitely a bug that should be reported via the Feedback app.

I had this problem with some programs, when I was running windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit and now that I’ve upgraded my notebook to Win7 Pro 64-bit, I’m seeing this problem happen much more often.

When I open some programs, either the main program window or message box’s or menu’s, open up extending below my taskbar. In Outlook 2007 when I try to set up email accounts, the setup wizard go’s below my taskbar which means I can’t click on next or Finish. True Launch Bar is also another program that does the same thing and half a dozen other programs.

My screen is set at its max 1900 x 1200 resolution and the DPI is currently at 170%. Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT.

Answer:Programs keep opening below the taskbar

Ash, your DPI setting at 170% is the reason. Scale it back to maybe 120%

I have a gateway notebook running Windows XP. There are 2 user accounts, each with administrative rights. I recently installed SP2, defragged the hard drive, and cleaned up some spyware and adware with spybot and adaware. I am also running Norton Anti-Virus and all definitions are up-to-date. (This is my college daughter's computer). All ran fine after doing this, but after the next boot, the taskbar completely disappeared. I was finally able to get it back, but only by selecting the quick launch toolbar. If I deselect the quick launch tool bar, the whole taskbar goes away. The real problem is that programs no longer show up on the taskbar when they are opened (Word, Excel, IE, Trillian, etc). And, if I open a program, and then minimize it, it goes away completely as though it were closed, but if I open task manager, the application is still running. I have to close the applications from task manager. The really odd thing is that this is only happening on one of the user accounts (my daughter's). The other user account is functioning normally. Short of creating an additional user account or using system restore and starting all over, does anyone have any ideas on how to repair this? Thank you.

It's been awhile since I've been on here, seeing as my computer has been running pretty nicely for a while. However, after coming home from a 2 week trip, when I turned on my computer and started to do my thing, I noticed I couldn't see any of the programs on the taskbar. When I right clicked it to enable the toolbar, there wasn't any option for me to click. Now, before I left for the trip, my computer was working fine. I have no idea how this happened, and I would very much like it fixed, since it greatly interferes with IMing =)

I'm not sure if I need to post any info, like a HijackThis! log or something, but I'll make sure to do it if it's necessary in fixing this problem.

I'm enjoying Windows 7 and I really like how the taskbar functions (I use it as a application launcher pretty much, as an alternative to using icons on my desktop)... except with some software. For example, I have a game I play often. I pinned the updater to the game on the taskbar, since it's necessary to run that before launching the actual game.

I launch the game and it looks normal, the updater is open and the object I pinned to the taskbar is in use. However, when the updater is finished and I launch the actual game, it creates another object in the taskbar. So now I have 2 icons for the same game clogging up my taskbar.

I guess this doesn't sound like a huge problem, but I'm a little OCD with my desktop as it is... so this bugs me a little bit. Is there anything I can do to make this look nicer? Force the object for the updater and the game to group together in the taskbar maybe? Or something?

Answer:Some programs look ugly in the taskbar.

Instead of pinning the updater to the taskbar, why don't you enable the Quick Launch and put it there? I usually only keep 4 of my most often used programs visible, and simply access the others via the >> link on the right side, so that the taskbar doesn't get too cluttered.

This issue occurs when the following .inf files contain an incorrect source media description:
? Fp40ext.inf
? Ims.inf

To work around this issue, you must change the source media description in both the Fp40ext.inf and Ims.inf files. To do this, use the following procedures.

Back up the Fp40ext.inf and Ims.inf files
1. In Windows Explorer, click Folder options on the Tools menu.
2. Click the View tab.
3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show all files and folders.
4. Open the C:\Windows\Inf folder.
5. Click the Fp40ext.inf file, click Edit, and then click Copy.
6. On the Edit menu, click Paste. This creates a copy of the Fp40ext.inf file that is named Copy of Fp40ext.inf.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the Ims.inf file.

Modify the Fp40ext.inf and Ims.inf files
1. Open the Fp40ext.inf file in Notepad. The Fp40ext.inf file is located in the C:\Windows\inf folder.
2. Locate the line that contains the following text:
3. Locate each line that contains the word "Professional."
4. Delete each instance of "Professional" and replace each instance with "Home."
5. Save and close the Fp40ext.inf file.
6. Open the Ims.inf file in Notepad. The Ims.inf file is located in the C:\Windows\inf folder.

Hello I've been searching around for solutions to this issue myself but have doing so to no avail so far. Hence I thought it would be a good idea to share my issue with other people who'd might be able to help me out

As the title suggests, whenever I have programs open in windows 10 they'll open just fine, however they won't indicate that they are even open at all. I have to guess my way through what is open and what is not.

An example of my issue would be the link below, if you look closely I've got open whilst my browser is running but it doesn't actually notice that the browser or anything alike is open.

I'd appreciate any sort of help you guys could give me, cheers!

Answer:Programs that are open are not indicated to be so on the taskbar

At the bottom of your taskbar, you will see a highlight line on all open program icons. Browser. skpye, Warcraft, mail, file explorer, etc.

Hi there. Im Kevin.

This problem has been looked at already quite a bit but none have so far been able to help me.

I recently noticed that I could not see any windows in my taskbar and alt+tab has been a life saver for a day now. im on xp pro btw.

i am strongly considering reformatting as I have everything on CD and I could have the problem fixed in a couple hours. But I think I would rather learn how to fix the problem then just run away from it.

I did a trojan scan with some program that I dont really know how good it was. And althought it said no trojans were on my comp it did flag listening port 5000 and something about sockets de troie, blazer 5.

Next I got a copy of NAV 2003 pro and it told me I had 2 viruses and only one could be fixed (W32.HLLP.HANDY) and the other could not be fixed. The other was called W32.IRCBOT.GEN, and it was attached to the un-needed file kernel32.exe, which i stopped in the processes screen and deleted. I have since done a full scan with NAV and come up clean and an active scan with Panda which also came up clean.

I did not accept any e-cards lately so it is not that PMEDIA bug. To be safe I also searched for OTMS.exe aswell as winsrv/winsrv.reg etc.

So I know i have a virus clean system, but still active programs do NOT show up.

Also I have noticed in the past 2 days or so that my e-mail account has been bombarded with about 20-30 emails. Most of which are from mail-daemons saying the message could not be sent (i d... Read more

I'm hoping there's a fix for this since I find it extremely annoying

As you can see in the picture when I open a pinned program it doesn't extend the icon but creates a new icon in the taskbar.
This is not happening with all programs like Opera, but iTunes and Skype are both prone to this problem.

I will certainly try to help. When you say "all programs progress bar" what do you mean exactly? Please take a screen shot of that from whatever operating system you've seen it in and I'd gladly help you.

I'll tell you what I think you mean now. You want your internet browser to show you how much of a particular file you are downloading. You have that with the built in browser, Internet Explorer. If you'd like to add your programs to the taskbar, just start them from the start menu and, while the are running and their icon appears in the taskbar, right click and select pin to taskbar option.

Hopefully i'm posting at the right section.

But I wanted to know if it is possible to make your pinned programs be at the right of the taskbar. So lets say you open a new program right now it comes to the right of the pinned programs right? Is it possible to move the pinned programs to the right and lock it there so that pinned programs are at the right and when you open a new program it just comes to the right of the ''Windows button'' as always. So the new opened programs still come at the left side but pinned stay at right.

Also a picture showing you what i mean.

I keep my taskbar at the top of the screen. I just like it there for ease of use. I'm not trying to make windows look or act like a mac (they annoy me with a lot of their button positions and whatnot)... I just like it up there on the top of my screen.

However, a lot of applications start out up at the very top of the screen. In XP, they started out in the middle of the screen, but in 7... well they are all the way at the top. And my taskbar is covering the menus and title bar, thus not allowing me to grab and move them.

Any of these which are resizable by grabbing a side or bottom edge, I just click there and windows will pop it down to just below the task bar. But several aren't, and I can't move the window in any way, shape, or form. If I know the menu layout, I can use alt keys to duplicate most functions... but some don't have alt key equivalents, or I just don't know them.

Is there any way, short of moving my task bar, or making it auto hide (which I do NOT want to do), to prevent this from happening, or even just reliably fix it each time it does happen?

Answer:Taskbar at top of screen interferes with some programs

Hi and welcome to the forum .

To move a Window without using the mouse please select the program in the task bar and hit alt+space then M.

Now use the arrow keys to move the Window to an appropriate position.

Hopefully next time that Window opens it will open where you moved it too.

I seem to be having a problem with the pinned programs on my taskbar and I was wondering if anybody can help me here. Most of the programs on my taskbar simply highlight the icon that I clicked when I want to start the program or start a new instance of the program. However, a select few programs (iTunes, Peggle Nights, Plants vs. Zombies), for whatever reason, when I click on them, they form a new icon for the program on the right of the rest of the icons.

For instance, when I click on iTunes (when the program is not already running), it will highlight the icon I clicked for a moment then form a new iTunes icon in addition to the old iTunes icon and the new one will be the one I must use to control iTunes. This exact problem persists in the other programs as well. Can anybody help me fix this?

Any help would be very very appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Answer:Odd problem with pinned programs on taskbar

I had the same problem. Heres what I did.

1. Delete all pinned itunes icon/s from the task bar.
2. Open itunes "normally" from desktop icon or startmenu.
3. Now this itunes (which you just opened) icon will appear on the task bar.
4. Right click on it and select "Pin this program to taskbar"
5. Now this icon behaves like all the other "regular" taskbar icons.

You can try this with other apps too.

I have about 4 chrome browser windows open with tabs in each of them and whenever I fullscreen a tab from any one of the windows, that chrome window with the tab that was maximized goes right into the last position of the 4 windows open.
For example, if I have chrome windows in this order:
[a, b, c, d]
If I fullscreen a tab in window 'a' and exit full screen, then the window order changes to:
[b, c, d, a]
I don't even have to play the youtube video; I just fullscreen it and exit fullscreen immediately and that window will go to the end of the order. Just for clarification, these aren't the tabs in the chrome windows, but the chrome windows themselves that are being repositioned, not the tabs.
I want to know if there was a way to keep my browser order so that I don't have to full screen every window until I get my order back to the way it was. I know this isn't a life altering issue, but it is really annoying for me because I have the windows in a certain order for my convenience. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

I started up my computer and when it loaded the taskbar was moved to below my screen, i can only see the very top of it and it is not enough for me to click start or any of the icons on the right hand side. I also can't open certain programs, a window will pop up and close instantly on those programs. I cant connect to the internet on wireless or cable. When I right click it opens window installer. When windows installer closes the right click menu opens up. I cant burn anything on to cds, when I try it says there is no disc in the drive. The cd does show up in the my computer though and I can run programs from it. It also infected my flash drive, and loaded a virus onto my friends computer that his antivirus program deleted. I have run Norton Antivirus as thats one of the only programs that will open and the scan returned no results.

That is everything I know about it so far. It's been pretty awful so far, so I really appreciate all the help...

Here are the results of what I believe to be the scans I am supposed to run:
DDS (Ver_09-02-01.01) - NTFSx86
Run by Billy at 0:05:49.56 on Mon 02/23/2009
Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.11 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_07

Does anyone know if I can pin my programs in the task bar but hide them until I require them and click on the arrow as you can in Vista?

You can do this on the right hand side of the task bar but I can't seem to make it work on the left.

Thanks in advance

I have the Taskbar situated on the left side of my 24 inch monitor. Currently there are 7 apps pinned, but they reside near the upper vertical portion of the taskbar. I want the apps pinned near the bottom of the taskbar (where the clock and TSRs are).

How do I configure this?

Answer:Win 7 Taskbar and pinned programs question

You don't, there's no option for it, they always stack starting from the start button.

Hey guys I am new to this forum, and recently any programs I minimize won't show up on the taskbar, but if I alt-tab it'll show back up. I tried google for answers but I could not find anything. Any help could be appreciated. Thanks

My taskbar buttons are set to never combine. Each instance of a program is separate. However, they seemed to be locked together when I want to move them. What's particularly annoying is that if I want instance A of this program to be on the left I can't move it if I already have another instance of the program open (instance B). They are locked in their left and right positions.

If I wish to move them around relative to different programs open in my taskbar that's fine. However, if I wish to move them among each other they're locked in place.

Is anyone aware of a way to disable this? I believe I was able to do this at some point on my laptop which also used windows 7.

Several of my programs, especially the MESSENGERS, will start-up and then go right to the task bar MINIMIZED. I looked in their options and couldn't find anything about that.

Are these programs... ie ICQ etc... supposed to start-up MINIMIZED? And.. if not, how can that be prevented?

Answer:Programs starting-up MINIMIZED to the taskbar.

you trying to get them to not start up on reboot?

some you have to go into the System Configuration Utility to stop them from starting on the reboot. most you can do there. Quick Time is one that wont cooperate and will load up on reboot if it has been used.

In 7 I could right-click open programs in the taskbar to pin or unpin them. Since I use a "Quick Launch" toolbar instead of pinned items, I wanted to get rid of the pinned Edge, Explorer, and Store icons, but right-clicking them did nothing. I can shift-click them, but that only brings up the menu you'd get for right-clicking on a shortcut in a folder, with no pin/unpin option.

Additionally, right-clicking Skype in the taskbar offered a "Quit Skype" option for when I want to close it for real. Now I can't even find a way of doing this without Skype closing by default.

What's weird is that the tiles/icons in the Start Menu can be right-clicked, and from there I can unpin, but it seems weird that I can't do it directly by right-clicking the icon in the taskbar. Is this a bug? Do I need to change a setting? Or are these sorts of options just gone from the taskbar?

EDIT: I don't know what exactly I did (I think an update fixed it), but it works now exactly as in 7. If anyone else has this, the update should fix it I guess. :P
