Norton Internet Security & exclusions

Question: Norton Internet Security & exclusions

Need some help with Norton Internet Security and keeping it from deleting/clearing my cookies for websites like this or others when I have my log-in credentials saved. Basically every time I run a scan it clears my cookies making me have to re-log in to all my sites.

Anyone who's using NIS know how to keep it from doing this?

Please, no NIS bites or get something else. Would like the answer to this one.

Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Norton Internet Security & exclusions

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Norton Internet Security & exclusions

This is somewhat strange. This never happened to me when I was running NIS. Are you sure it is NIS doing it and not e.g. CCleaner.

Since the beginning of the year my NIS license had expired and I am using MSE in the interim. But as soon as I find one of those zero dollar deals again I will get back to NIS.

If nothing else, I would call the Symantec help line. Maybe you have some odd setting. Those guys at the help line have always been very helpful when I was facing a NIS problem.

Unknown about NIS.
But I use Norton 360 with NO problems with log-in's after a norton scan.

How do you set Malwarebytes exclusions in Norton. I have Norton Internet Security v 17.8.0.5, and am running Malwarebytes (pro) for the realtime scans.

Ever since installing Malwarebytes (pro), my system occasionally runs extremely slow, with the screen freezing for minutes at a time. I don't want to remove Norton if I don't have to, and this was suggested to me in another forum topic.

Thank you,

Econguy

Hello,
I am facing an issue with the proxy configuration file extension while using "Use automatic configuration script" in IE.
When using .dat, having an exclude:
if (shExpMatch(url, "*whatismyipaddress.com*")) return "DIRECT";
if (dnsDomainIs(hsot, "whatismyipaddress.com")) return "DIRECT";
if (localHostOrDomainIs(host, "whatismyipaddress.com")) return "DIRECT";
Traffic to http://whatismyipaddress.com still goes through the proxy.
When changing the proxy configuration file extension to .pac instead of .dat:
Traffic to http://whatismyipaddress.com goes Directly to the Internet bypassing the proxy.
User agents:
Win10 IE11: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; Trident/7.0; rv:11.0) like Gecko
Win7 IE11: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/7.0; rv:11.0) like Gecko
Have you seen this issue before? I have tested on both Windows 10 and Windows 7 IE 11.
Thank you in advance,
Nael

Norton Internet Security And Norton AntiVirus 2011 Beta Download

Security companies like Symantec or Kaspersky release new versions of their products each year. Norton is now offering beta versions of their upcoming security applications Norton Internet Security 2011 and Norton AntiVirus 2011 that can be downloaded directly from the Norton Beta Center.
A registration is required before the programs can be activated on the local computer system. The activation key will only work for a 14-day period and beta testers are required to download a newer build of the product to receive a new beta subscription key.
Here are some of the new features that have been integrated into Norton Internet Security 2011:

I currently have Norton Systemworks 2002 (with Cleansweep, Ghost, WinDoctor, etc)... last week, my tech support at Gateway suggested that I could improve online performance by *upgrading* to Norton Internet Security 2004.

Today I rec'd the box in the mail, and the first thing I noticed was that the 2004 software doesn't include any of those handy-dandy utilities I want those!!!

Gateway says to go ahead and un-install the 2002 software, then install the new 2004 software to *see if the utilities might be on there anyway*...

I smell computer havoc ahead.... help

Answer:Replace Norton Systemworks 2002 with Norton Internet Security 2004?

Those 2 programs are not the same. Nortons Systemwork is all the system tools for defragging, scanning registry, etc. Along with anti-virus and such.

Nortons Internet security is a Firewall, and not a good one at that. If they sent you just internet security, then it's only the firewall. What it sounds like you need/want is Nortons Systemworks 2004.

I've got a Sony-Vaio laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 and Norton Internet Security 2007 on it. I would like to upgrade to NIS 2009. I have already talked to a Symantec Support technician, and he has told me that there are basically two ways of removing NIS 2007 if I want to upgrade to NIS 2009: run the removal tool twice to get rid of NIS 2007, then install NIS 2009, or let NIS 2009 remove NIS 2007. I don't know which is the better option, can't make up my mind. Does anyone have experience with such an issue?

Hi everybody,
Does anyone know how "Norton Anti Spam 2005" handles incoming Emails and how it sorts them out in category "Spam or Not"?
Problem is, if I send emails to some friends of mine (11 all together), 6 of the 11 emails, (they are all using "Norton AntiSpam 2005", too) go straight to the ďNorton ANTISPAM Folder), without asking the single User if this is spam or not, and get sorted out.
They havenít generated a rule or anything like it either. What means, those settings have to be standard settings by Norton.
It also doesnít matter if I send an attachment, like a pic or a file or even simple plain text. My Emails are sorted out right away after they are fetched from the Mailserver.

PS: Iím not a spammer, so Norton canít have me on a blacklist or anything like it. Has anyone any idea what to do in a case like this?

Thanks a lot

Well, about a month ago, I switched from Norton anti-virus, which came with the computer to Norton Internet Security,(which also comes with a firewall), I am finding it seems, anyway to be a lot better. It covers a lot more bases, especially with protection while online. It updates alot more than anti-virus did and the only security problems I find during scans are cookies.
I am thankful for this site, it is helpful. I am a music blogger and always was able to use a work computer. So, the internet I know well, computers,NOT!!! , People want me to get on facebook, It takes a long time to load sometimes, I am very apprehensive about using facebook, because I tried a few years ago on work computer and it brought some viruses. I already use Tweeter, and Blogger. Any thoughts on Facebook and keeping safe?

Answer:Norton Internet Security,replaced Norton anti-virus

Any thoughts on Facebook and keeping safe?Social networking sites (MySpace, YouTube, Facebook) can be a significant security risk which could make your computer susceptible to malware infection. As with gaming sites, users visiting MySpace, YouTube, Facebook...are exposed to innocuous-looking banner ads containing code which can trigger pop-up ads and malicious Flash ads that install viruses, Trojans and spyware. Ads are a target for hackers because they offer a stealthy way to distribute malware to a wide range of Internet users. Hello Guys,
My system:
Toshiba  / Satellite C55-A   /  Intel ® Celeron  ® N2820
64 bit Windows 8.1
I am at the end of my rope. I have tried everything. First, let me say I am not good at technical things on a computer, just enough to be dangerous. So if some things I say seem crazy, they probably are.  So here is the story. About a week ago I received a email on my go daddy webmail.  www.login.securserver.net. That is how I long into that email. Now, that is not my main email. My main email is gmail, which I use the most.
The email I received on the go daddy email was a Notice of Apperance in Court #00406341. It contained a zip file,  Court Notification 00406341.zip.   Of course being stupid, I unzipped the file, thinking it was something important, since I have some court cases ongoing for business.
With research  I think it is a Kuluoz or another one that starts with  A.  cant remember.
It put a zip file in my downloads folder  Court_Notification_00406341.doc, which shows as File Type: Java Script file, 8.84kb.  That is the only one I noticed, not sure if they are more somewhere.  Then things started getting a little weird. Nothing major, I still get emails, still send them, and my system seems to be running normally, except for Avast Mail Shield security exclusions ,  It keeps poping up at least 40 times a day, saying

We will start with FRST to remove some items from the log.

Usually Iam only on this site once or twice per day so you may not get a reply from me until the next day.

Copy/paste whats below in the box into notepad. Save it as fixlist.txt in the same location you have FRST, your desktop. Click the FRST icon like before and this time click on the fix button just once. When done you will find a fixlog on your desktop. Please post the fixlog in your reply. Machine may reboot to finish the process.

I just upgraded my Norton Antivirus to the 2006 package for £34.99. I have since discovered that if I had bought Norton Internet Security 2006 I could have had, not only the Antivirus which is on that too, but also Firewall protection and lots of other stuff - for just an extra £15. I'm not impressed. Is there any reason why these 2 packages are on sale at the same time (aside to someone maybe just wanting Antivirus on their computer)? Am I missing something?? Can anybody out there put my mind at rest, or have I been diddled?

Answer:Norton Antivirus 2006 or Norton Internet Security?

The only reason the two products are on sale at the same time is as you say, for people who just want Antivirus protection and don't want to pay more money for products they may already have. I can't really put your mind at rest, but an extra £15 is really not worth it when there are plenty of free security products out there that work just as well.

[size=4][font=Times New Roman]I received a error message that said I would need to uninstall Nortons and reinstall in order for it to work properly. I run Windows XP and for about two months I have been having problems with the computer crashing and then a message from Windows which stated that my system had recovered from a serious error. To make a long story short, I uninstalled Nortons and then reinstalled it. I had also received the message from Microsoft that my system was probably infected with "Spyware.Apropos C." When I reinstalled Nortons now I keep getting a message from Norton Anti Virus Auto Protect which states that a virus with the name Spyware.Apropos C has infected my system and I need to scan. Then something prevents Norton's antivirus from starting the scan. Also, the Norton's Icon in my system tray has a red x on it and it says it is disabled. I have contacted Norton's and I do not wish to pay an arm and a leg for assistance as I thought the warranty, on the product which has another 77 days before it expires, would enable me to receive assistance should something sneak around Norton's. Does anyone have any idea as to how to take care of this problem? I went to Microsoft and ran a virus scan in safe mode from their web site but it still did not touch the Spyware.Apropos C which must be embedded somewhere. I also attempted a scan from Symantac itself but it would not work. I feel like I paid a lot of money for something that is not worth... Read more

hi everyone--

Just wanted to let you know that Norton AntiVirus 12 and Norton Internet Security 5 for Mac are now on sale on the Norton eStore.

You can check out the specific product pages here:

Norton Internet Security: http://us.norton.com/macintosh/internet-security/?

Norton Antivirus: http://us.norton.com/macintosh/antivirus/?

Key features includes:

- Mac OS X 10.7 support, and since only 1 in 6 Mac users are running 10.7, we are including the older versions of NAV and NIS on the disk image as well.

- Updated UI for NAV 12 and NIS 5

- Updated scan engines, tweaks to specific features (more auto-disk scan, for example--we now scan files on external volumes when files are opened)

- Norton Internet Security now includes Norton Safe Web, which supports Firefox 4,5, 6 and 7. Due to signficant changes in Safari 5.1, we have to retool both our phishing protection and Norton Safe Web and are working on a patch to address this. We've also included a Facebook wall scanner, which will scan your Facebook wall for suspicious and malicious URLs.

We are very excited about these products and are looking forward to hearing what you think about them. These new products will provide a strong foundation for us to build on, and includes a new licensing system which will make it much easier to manage your subscriptions and does away with all of the upgrade frustrations users have experienced in the past--basically, if you have a valid suscription, you... Which would you purchase, and why?
Personally, I'm leaning towards towards internet security now that I have no firewall currently now that my router was replaced by a crappy Netgear gateway/cablemodem bastard child.
However, I really need system tools like a Defragmenter. Does Utilities have a disk cleaning software?

I know alot of people are bashing Norton, but its just easier to put on my mothers computer.
-EDIT-
I mean SystemWorks, not Utilities.

But as for Norton, it blocks unknown files it doesn't have a HIPS as such but any program being stupid of trying to access websites and files they shouldn't get blocked by SONAR their zero-day and zero-hour malware component.

I have recently bought a new laptop and I installed norton security standard version no backup
And yesterday I got a new license from the avast giveaway that was posted here on MT
I like how little impact has norton on my system but I don't know if it is good enough for detecting PUP and PUA, and this system might not be always connected to the internet (around 80% of the time),
so do you guys think that avast is a better solution or should I keep norton

Answer:Avast internet security 2016 vs Norton security standard

I vote for Norton.
If you change SONAR to agressive you will have better protection against zero-day threats even offline.( despite Sonar requires on-line connection for better heuristic real-time protection. )
Norton is lighter, Its improved performace and, I think if you are 80%of the time not connectec to internet, norton gives you a very good layer of protection

Hi guys,

Well the thing is i just recently got Norton security 2015 with backup and all in all it seems like a pretty good piece software however, why is it not blocking any malicious url's(keeping in mind that web filtering is enabled)? I decided to test norton out by putting the security of my entire computer in its hands and visited a few infected websites that i found online and to my surprise norton didn't block any of em. As a matter of fact the only time norton kicked into action was when the malware actually got onto my PC and was being analyzed by hitman pro. Did i just set it up wrong or is there something seriously wrong with norton 2015? Because from the poll that i had set up earlier 7 out of 10 people recommended norton security 2015 over Bitdefender 2015. Now surely norton has to be some good for so many people to select norton over Bitdefender. Would really appreciate some help on this topic because i am really concerned about the security of my PC now
Surely i may have done something worng
(because all i remember doing was allowing Norton to automatically remove low risk files and allowing sonar to automatically remove infected files)

Answer:Internet Security my norton security 2015 not set up right? Its letting malware through.

OUCH...! I'm no expert, but as far as I'm aware Norton is an anti-virus not an anti-malware.
Besides, no AV or AM program/suite is bulletproof - they all have their weaknesses. I would suggest you open a thread on http://malwaretips.com/forums/malware-removal-assistance.10/ and get TwinHeaded Eagle's expert assistance ASAP.
In future, I would leave malware testing to the experts if I was you. It really is for the people who actually know what they are doing.

I would like some views from people who have switched from Norton's Internet Security to ESET's Smart Security. Those who have not switched recently (ESET's has only been available for about a year) please don't jump in with how much better NOD32 is. I want some actual views of users who have recently made the switch. What they like/dislike, how one performs compared to the other, etc.

Answer:Norton Internet Security > ESET(NOD32) Smart Security

NOD32 > ~

Period.

That comes from years upon years of fixing the problems, bloat, system resource hogging, RAM hogging, slow performance, customer dissatisfaction, and several other issues all rolled into one big problem overall known as Symantec and the products they release under the Norton name. They have effectively destroyed Norton's well-earned reputation for good quality products that keep your hardware running the best it can. I was using Norton products over a decade ago and loved 'em, with Norton Utilities 8 being probably the absolute flagship product when Peter Norton himself actually had a hand in the operations.

Since Symantec took over, they have not released ONE PRODUCT under the Norton name that I would even bother pirating if I were to do so - it's really that bad. They destroyed PowerQuest's reputation for good products by buying them out and effectively destroying them forever, even with the takeover of Partition Magic which was PQ's flagship product. It hasn't been updated at all in nearly 3 years yet people continue to use it and suffer the consequences.

Note that as I said in above, my opinions are based on fixing the problems caused by using Symantec/Norton products for thousands of clients - I don't use the stuff because I know better. If one person came to me and said "This sucks" I might dismiss it as personal preference. Two, maybe something going on. But several THOUSAND people with issues all us... Read more

I currently have the Norton product installed on my system. The subscription will run out in about a week. Time Warner offeres the EZ Armour suite at no charge for customers. Is there any major technical or quality reasons to not switch to the EZ Armour?

Also, if I do switch, are there any suggestions for fully removing the Norton Product? I have heard that this can be somewhat difficult.

Thanks

I'm on a dilemma here. Was planning to leave Avast Free behind and choose from a paid suite.

Norton Security Standard (lastest version)
Kaspersky Internet Security (lastest version)

What would you recommend for home use and advanced knowledge? Thanks!

Aditional notes:
Chosen product will be on max settings
Will use the suite firewall (on max settings)
Will be used along with VodooShield and HitmanPro.Alert

Answer:Norton Security Standard vs Kaspersky Internet Security

Both are fantastic products, both will give you a very good protection for home use. If you are more advanced user, go for Kaspersky. Norton is more "install and forget", it's less customizable.

My current AV is about to expire so it's time to purchase another year of protection.  I've been running Norton Security with good results but am wondering if I should switch.  Norton as you know is not included in the AV Comparatives but of the paid for choices Kaspersky is rated highly.

Can anyone help me decide if I should continue with Norton or make the jump to Kaspersky?

Also Amazon has prior year versions of Norton and Kaspersky available for substantial savings.

Will these prior year versions automatically update to the current version when installed?

Thanks

Answer:Norton Security Deluxe vs Kaspersky Internet Security

Although Norton (Symantec) is as good as any other well known anti-virus program, it is costly, requires numerous services and running processes that consume system resources and often results in complaints of high CPU usage. Anti-virus software components insert themselves deep into the operating systems core where they install kernel mode drivers that load at boot-up and create files/folders/registry entries in various locations.I have read from other users that Norton has made improvements in newer versions of their software so they are not as resource heavy as past versions...while others still say differently. Those issues plus the cost factor are the primary reason many folks look for a free alternative. IMO, Norton is better utilized in an Enterprise system environment protecting many client computers. With that said, there are a lot of folks who prefer using Norton (especially if it came preinstalled) and there is nothing wrong with staying with a product you are satisfied with.Norton Security Standard, Deluxe and Premium (formerly Norton Internet Security) are suites which means they include additional features in addition to anti-virus protection. Some of those extra features will also consume resources and affect performance. Symantec Endpoint Protection includes many of the same features but is intended for small businesses with several computers and servers.I'm not an advocate of suites. All-in-one tools and suites are filled with extra features (including "bells... Read more

Just got new Windows 7 64-bit machine and loaded up with Norton Internet Security 2011. Wondering what other security software (antivirus, anti-spyware, etc.) is recommended to supplement this security protection without causing problems or becoming too redundant. Thanks

Answer:Security software on top of Norton Internet Security 2011?

I don't normally keep up with the statistics about security suites, so I'm not sure how effective/efficient Norton 2011 is.

But from what I use - Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is a pretty nice program to have installed and perform regular scans with.
Additionally, there were quite a few recommendations for Spybot S&D in the past, may be something you would want to look in to.

Also, the usual (just for a general reminder) - keep your OS patched and updated, keep your general use software updated, scan the files that you download, be wary of rogue software and try to develop safe browsing habits. Nice antivirus software can offer only so much protection. The rest is pretty much up to you.

There are quite a few more that the other members here may want to point out as well

The third candidate in our Security for Everyone series is Norton Internet Security 2010. Symantec's technological stars are Quorum and SONAR2, two technologies that are hoped to push the efficiency of the new security suite to the limit. Quorum uses input from the many users of Symantec products to build a reputation rating for any file that may be encountered in order to better assert its maliciousness. SONAR2 analyzes the behavior of programs to detect any threads. In this review, we will see if these two technologies, along with Norton Internet Security's other features, are as good as they sound.

I would like to get some opinions regarding Bitdefender Internet Security vs. Norton Internet Security.
I've been around computers a long time and I know that every time you turn around there's a new "king of the hill" when it comes to Security Software so I realize that things can change rapidly so I'm going to take any information with a grain of salt. At this point I have not evaluated Security software in the last few years but I'm thinking that now might be a opportune time to do so.

Right now I have Norton Internet Security installed on both my laptop and my desktop PC and I have several months left on my subscription. I have noticed that on my laptop I've had some issues with restarts (i.e. black screen with circling white dots) after a Norton Patch and sometimes after Microsoft Updates. Another person on another forum said that he ditched Norton and his similar restart problems went away but he opted to go with the Microsoft solution which I don't trust. From what I understand Bitdefender is pretty good at protecting ones system but I would really like to know (A) is it as good or better than Norton all around and (B) is system performance any better under Bitdefender? If Bitdefender is that much better than Norton I would buy a copy of Bitdefender Internet Security and ditch Norton but I need to be sure that I would not be shooting myself in the foot. Thanks.

Answer:Bitdefender Internet Security vs. Norton Internet Security

I have been a Norton user for over 9 years and have current subscriptions to Norton Security Premium, Kaspersky Internet Security & Bitdefender Total Security.

My 1st pref is either Norton or Kaspersky followed by BD. BD introduces a noticeable lag in the internet connection. One has to turn off the anti-port scanning option to get rid of this issue.

Kaspersky runs well but AV signature update speeds are slow. It may be due to the update server being located in Europe/Russia. BTW BD has a similar slow update problem.

Norton pushed an updated yesterday that messed up the installation. The hot fix could not be applied and I was asked to uninstall the program and reinstall it. I may take this chance to try the new 2017 Kaspersky or BD products.

Users of the world's second best* browser were forced to use alternatives after an overnight update to Norton AntiVirus prevented Internet Explorer from working at all.

Aggrieved users who'd thought far enough ahead to install Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or any of the other alternatives took to Norton's official forum to vent their spleens.
"Sometime this evening, IE11 started crashing. In fact, it crashed an already-open browsing session, and now trying to start it up just instantly causes a 'Internet Explorer Has Stopped Working' error," wrote support forum contributor Sunfox, sparking an 11-page thread.

Forumites shortly figured out that an update to Norton Internet Security 360 had broken something critical relating to IE, with monkeynuts posting:

Sorry - this was posted under Windows XP, but maybe it fits better under security.

Help - My PC has Windows XP and I have been using Norton Internet Security 2004 for about 3 months and all has been well. Until about the last week. Suddenly, it appeared as if the program was no longer functioning.

When launching the program, it would indicate that there was an error and that nothing (Anti-Virus, Firewall, Parental Security, etc.) was active. After doing some troubleshooting, I determined I needed to uninstall the program, but somehow I can not because I am not considered to be the person authorized to do so - supervisor access required (something got corrupted here because I was the supervisor).

So the final fix is to edit the registry through a download from Symantec's website, but I can not access any website that is either secure or requires me to download anything (patch, etc.). I simply get a message saying that the page can not be displayed, and/or the download just hangs.

Obviously my IE settings have somehow been corrupted, but due to NIS being corrupted, I can't edit any settings. So I'm caught in a circle - I can't uninstall the program or download anything to help me do it.

Any ideas on how I can either get rid of this program or connect fully to the internet?

Thanks

Hello. This is not my first time posting on bleepingcomputer, but the last time I had a problem was so long ago I have forgotten the account details. However I was so impressed by the help I received, I thought I should come here again if I ever suspected anything might be amiss with my PC. Speaking of which:

I have recently had an unfortunate sequence of events  over the past two days, and I'm unsure if it's just a group of unrelated problems or if they're connected somehow.
I have also left various windows updates waiting to be installed for an embarrassingly long time, which helps lead me to suspect I might have left a backdoor open somehow.

The sequence of events are thus:

Painfully slow broadband on the 12th of july, suspected to be issues with my ISP. They apparently were performing maintenance on the 11th, but had also finished.
Malwarebytes very slow to update due to aforementioned broadband woes
Internet issues appeared to fix themselves later in the night.

13th of july

Broadband drops to half of the speed of the night before, and fluctuates lower still throughout the day.
Malwarebytes suddenly unable to update, sending me an error message that I have currently forgotten. Something along the lines of "Program_error_updating (0,0,I/O error)" (Not the exact words, will update if I can find it exactly)
After a reboot, malwarebytes was now ignoring attempts at updating... Read more

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what is wrong with my Norton Internet Security and/or Internet Explorer....

Both have been working fine up to now, but now all of a sudden, when I open Norton and try to select Norton Anti-Spam from the menu, I get the following Internet Explorer Script Error:-

Line: 15
Char: 1
Error: Object expected
Code: 0
Url: res://C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AntiSpam\asRes.LOC/nasstatus.htm

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

Whether I click yes or no, it returns to the Anti-Spam page and says "Refreshing" next to each Anti-Spam feature. When I try to click on any of the features, I get another script error.

The reason I need to access the Anti-Spam section is because for some reason, ads are appearing on sites even though I have the Norton Ad Blocker on. I need to get into the Anti-Spam to check the status of the ad blocker, but it won't let me get any further than the daft script error!

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys!

Update: Sorted it. After installing some Norton and IE updates it seems to be okay now....sorry for starting such a pointless thread!

I assume that it would be possible to get a replacement antivirus and firewall to install in the same way. Have a look at the 'Security Help Tools' thread that is pinned at the top of this Forum

I am also having a problem with Norton Internet Security. Each time I try to run Live Updates, I get the following error: LU1814 Live Update could not open the update list. The only thing I have done recently is to use the Dell PCTune Up.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Need a new antivirus/security suite soon and see BB has the NAV 2009 for $20, or I could get the full NIS 2009 for $10 at a different site, but with $50 of rebates plus shipping.

Is the NIS 2009 worth it? I am very computer literate and know the difference between phising scams, website that you shouldn't download from, etc.

I hate nothing more than screwing around with rebates, but I will if the value is really there.

Anyone have experience with both of these?

Answer:Norton Antivirus 2009 or Norton Internet Security Suite 2009?

Neither is worth the $$$$$$$$. If you want to buy something go with AVG, NOD32, etc.

AVG also has a free version but whatever you do, don't buy Norton, others will agree

HiI'm considering getting rid of Norton Internet Security Pro 2004. I've read much about it being bloatware and am not entirely happy about it conflicting with other security apps such as XP SP2 firewall and popup blockers and I'm already running Spybot, Adaware, MS Antispyware.I would therefore look to be just be adding :-Avast or AVG& Zonealarm or Kerioin place of Norton.Any thoughts on this setup. Would it provide a good level of security?ThanksC

Well, I have Norton Internet Security 2006, and my Dad set all the passwords for my account, his account, and my sisters account...

Well, he forgot the passwords. And my account, which Norton logs into automatically, has no internet privileges...

So now we can't get into any new internet programs. I updated Mozilla Firefox, and now I can't use it. I recently installed Ad-aware SE, and I can't update its definitions... or even get into it, nowadays.

So what should I do? Uninstall it? Or does someone know how I can ask them to give me the password, or change it without knowing the password already?

Grateful if anyone could explain bit more about the answer in Nov helpline for security ? the one about Norton and the really, really, really annoying pop up messages [see page 155]. I get exactly the same and it drives me bonkers + couple of times I have not read pop-up properly and clicked ?permit? to create a new firewall rule; oops [restore default settings]. If you do what the PCA answer suggests [turn off the notification of access control alerts] what happens ? is everything blocked by default ? I sometimes get pop-ups requesting me to permit or reconfigure ? what will happen to these. Thanks Diggory

Answer:Norton Internet Security

When i get such a message i click 'block' and ticke the box 'dont notify me again' so that way norton blocked the attempted access, does it again next time, but just does not tell me.

A friend is having a problemo with Norton Internet Security. A window is CONSTANTLY popping up from her taskbar, saying, "Rules automatically created for the program: Microsoft Generic Host Process for Win32 services" (the window is titled "Norton Internet Security"). She is VERY annoyed by it. I tried the usual tricks (looked in what I thought were all the normal places to disable the messages), but couldn't seem to find what to change. Anybody familiar with the product?

to download,it applies to generic host, seems to have fixed problem with being
blocked by Firewalls when trying to access net.Stops error message"svchost was

vulnerable to hacking & virus attacks;I disabled it at Steve Gibsons site.

I've recently been having problems with my DSL connection, and when I talked to my ISP's tech support, he said there have been known problems with DSL and Norton Internet Security, and tried to convince me to uninstall Norton. But I've had DSL and Norton for almost a year, and no problems until now, and I just can't believe that it's an issue with Norton. Have any of you heard about any problems using both DSL and Norton together?

Answer:Norton Internet Security and DSL

Nope, I've worked on several systems with NIS on DSL and they're not having problems.

ISPs are always quick to blame to firewalls...but, then, a lot of problems with connections do turn out to be badly configured firewalls, so they do have a reason for doing that.

If you disable NIS and the problems don't go away, then I think it's pretty easy to assume it's not a NIS problem.

That said, an even more common problem with connections is spyware. If you haven't scanned for and removed spyware, download, install, immediately update and then run Spybot and/or AdAware. Read the help files to familiarize yourself with how they work. I recommend you use them both since each tends to find things the other misses. Let them clean up any spyware found.

Then, to be doubly sure, download and run CWShredder and run it (link to the download is near the bottom of the page).

Okay, so a few years ago we bought Norton internet security for our PC, and also set up parental controls. It seemed to work fine, except that it took an age to load the controls at startup, and it actually damaged the performance of the pc quite significantly. We kept with it for a few years, but now that kids are older, and we have other software (AVG and ZonealarmsPRO), we were looking to get rid of it. It had started saying that our subscription had expired a few weeks before, which prompted us to look for new options.

When I finally came round to removing it, I logged onto the "supervisors" account and tried to remove it. Oh dear. It seems I didnt have supervisor access anymore. I tried on all the accounts on our PC, without any luck. So does this mean that its stuck on our PC forever? Do we need to re-subscribe before we can remove this software? or is there any third party program that could forcibly remove it from my PC, whether it wants to come off or not?

I really hope theres a solution to my problem out there, as I want to get rid of it once and for all,

Cheers

There are two parts to this question.Firstly can NIS 2003 still be registered as a new installation or is it no longer supported? It does not need a reigistration code like the later versions.Secondly NIS 2006 has been getting a lot of poor reviews. What would you recommend as a simple, no-brainer, single internet security package for my wife to use on a dial-up internet connection with Windows XP Home on a fairly modern laptop.

Answer:Norton Internet Security

So far as I am aware, 2003 is still supported and, no, you don't need a registration code for this version. Rather than upgrade to 2006, frankly, I would buy 2005 (always available at click here but watch out for any pirate copying) for which you will need a registration code.

It will only install on one machine. also if the HDD fails you will not be able to us eit again, as it is no longer on the same hdd. you also can't do a clean install of the os without not working again. i would only buy retail versions.

Read this, download the tool. click hereRead carefully, ensure you have the CD or file required to re-install the program, ensure you have your subscription details written down (though the tool will leave details on the PC if required) and run. Once it has finished, disconnect from the internet, restart your machine, re-install NIS, reconnect to internet, do a full update.

I have a problem here, guys. Ok, I have Norton Internet Security installed on this comp, it's a public family comp, and it's blocking all of the games I play and whenever I try to go into the program, it just freezes up and won't let me do anything. I can't uninstall the software, my mom needs it. I recall before it started freezing up, every game I played asked to allow internet access when the game connects to the internet. It doesn't do that anymore, it just won't let me connect to the game. Is there any way I can give these games access to the internet without going into the program itself?

I have Norton Internet Security installed on my computer. When I first set it all up I put in parental controls.

I have stupidly made the default account a "child" level and now cannot find a way to log on and change all the settings.

When I go into the program I get a screen up with 4 options ! - status and settings. 2 - Statistics. 3 - subscription status and 4- user accounts.

When I click on the user account it says "Customize internet access for each individual in your household." It then states "Not logged in" but the log in box is "pale" and cannot be opened/activated.

I seem to be unable to "get into" internet security and change the settings.

I was desperate enough earlier to try and uninstall it so that I could reinstall it and start again but was denied access to do this as I was not seen as an "administarator"

Does anyone have any solution to enable me to climb out of this abyss ?

Answer:Norton internet security

Try booting to Safe Mode, and log on as THE Administrator, it is an account that usually only shows in Safe Mode....the password for it should be blank unless someone has set one, so just try hitting the Enter key when you see a place for the password (bypass it in other words)

When the computer starts up, when you see the black and white text or at any point, start tapping the F8 key, eventually you will get it right and be shown the Advanced Startup menu, with your keyboard up or down arrow, move to the "Safe Mode" option and press Enter key to boot to it.

Then maybe you will have access to Norton, I'm not sure, or it may take your user password. Try just changing the settings, if no go, you may or may not be successful uninstalling in Safe Mode.

Is it possible to remove this without interfering with my Norton subscription? I ask because it says that my firewall is being managed by Norton Internet Security and I can do nothing with my firewall, I can't turn it on/off, can't allow programs through.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Answer:Norton Internet Security.

I'm pretty sure you cannot do that. The firewall in Norton Internet Security is part of the program and will be removed when you uninstall Norton Internet Security. But, this is not something to be concerned about. Windows Firewall should automatically be enabled when you remove Norton Internet Security. Still, you should verify this and, if it did not happen, then you can manually enable Windows Firewall. I suggest you disconnect from the Internet until you've confirmed that Windows Firewall is active.

Edit: Actually, you could disable the Norton Firewall and enable Windows Firewall before removing Norton Internet Security.

Hi, I have been using Norton Internet Security 2004 since may 2004, until yesterday I hadn't been able to set up the live update?

Yesterday I carried out a full virus scan which took about 45 minutes, I was then asked to download the live updates which I OK'd, to my surprise the system went through all the updates and downloaded successfully however, after I rebooted I could not get any Internet service. the only way I can receive Internet access is by disabling the personal firewall.

Can anyone advise what I am doing wrong.

I have just changed from having separate Norton Anti Virus and Fire Wall to Internet Security.
One thing i have noticed in particular is how slow the response is from Internet Security.
It takes about 15 seconds to load and about 60 seconds to exit.Live Update is also very slow.I have also noticed that to exit from Outlook Express is not immediate.Norton are not much help ,they suggest that my computer needs a tune up which it dosn't.
It is Norton Internet Security that needs the tune up.But how?
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Go to Nortons web site and download and run their remover software then you can reinstall.
FWIW I beleive that NIS is the worst Program available today.
Why not try AVG or AVAST they are both free and a lot better than NIS,if you are not happy with them you can remove them easily without the hassles that NIS gives and then install NIS

Answer:Is Norton internet security all i need?

For the most part, yes its all you need.

You'll get a few different opinions, but I use Malwarebytes & SpywareBlaster with Norton.
Niether of these will interfer with anything Norton already does. And although Malwarebytes has never found anything, its still a good idea to have IMHO.

Malwarebytes is good for occasional On-Demand scans.
SpywareBlaster works really well in combination with any AV Suite. It simply blocks know bad sites by adding them to your web broswers blacklist.
