AM3 board with AM3+ CPU

Question: AM3 board with AM3+ CPU

Hi techspotters,

it has come time to modify my old rig.

I'm planning to upgrade the cpu without changing my motherboard, but there is a slight risk involved that the purchase I am going to make is faul. So back to basics:

My current MB: M4A89TD PRO/USB3 - link
Current CPU: Phenom t1100, oc running @ 3,867ghz
Current RAM: EVOleggera 1600 4x4, running underclocked @ 1596mhz

the one to upgrade to: AMD FX8350
--
So this is a basic operation, a cpu swap, but few questions popped up on the research phase

M4A89TD is a AM3 board which apparently after some searching supports some of the FX series cpus that are AM3+. I have also found the corresponding BIOS that I need to flash myself to, to make it work properly and be recognized by the MB. link

Q&A

1. FX8350 is known to support 1866mhz RAM speeds, my existing RAM runs max at 1600 without overclock, and is placed 4x4, which occupies all 4 slots, and might confuse the FX8350 which supports dualchannel as usual. Meaning I will need to leave my RAM running at 1600mhz, how big will the reduce be in the performance of the CPU- 1600mhz vs 1866?

2. When setting up the proceccor I will need to disable the Turbocore to make it stable on the older AM3 board, which only supports cpu speeds up to 4,0ghz and the fx8350 on turbo bumps to 4,2ghz. After disabling turbo, all cores are set to run at 4,0, which by research is the most stable option on my existing MB. Will FX 8350 bottleneck gtx970 or gtx 980, and how bad it is going to be?

3. Upgrading hardware is always nice, but am I making 200? bold move by upgrading a 4 year old cpu to almost as old one? And if someone with more knowledge can state me that there is no performance gain to be maid, I just might stick with my old as long as its still breathing and calculating.

Thanks in advance for replys

And no, changing an motherboard is not an option So fond of my old rig.

best regards,

m

Preferred Solution: AM3 board with AM3+ CPU

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

I have an Ideapad Z510 without backlit keyboard.

I have ordered a backlit keyboard online.

The problem is that the laptop does NOT have a connector for the backlit keyboard.

I have tracked the possible solution to the part:

AILZB ODD Board W/BL PN:90004470

which probably means with backlit connector.
There is also the part AILZB ODD Board WO/BL PN:90004471, but this probably means without backlit connector.

My question is that, is this the correct part to order? It's a PCB that connects to the motherboard and the optical drive,
but also houses the socket/connector for the backlit keyboard.

My PCB looks like the one in the attached photo.

Can some user/Lenovo tech confirm that the part AILZB ODD Board W/BL PN:90004470  houses the mentioned connector on the PCB?

Thanks for your responses.

Answer:Z510 - trying to find a backlit connector board (AILZB ODD Board W/BL PN:90004470)

hi

There are only two Parts for this, those you gave
10 AILZB ODD Board W/BL 9000447010 AILZB ODD Board WO/BL 90004471

The Photo you posted, That port you're saying is present on the Maintenance Manual Photo

This one seems to have the port.

I believe that it is what you're thinking that the AILZB ODD Board W/BL 90004470 should have the Port you need.

amd xp 1700(palomino) on a ga-7vt600, winxp sp2

i upgraded video/ram in my computer and now i can't even get the old(what was replaced) stuff to work. here's a few things to list:

install new vid card, update drivers/settings, reboot no picture to monitor.
unistall/reinstall card, boot and monitor has picture.
install another gig of ram, boot no picture.
take new ram out, boot no picture.
take new card out, put new card in, boot no picture.
take new card out, put old card in, boot no picture.
take all memory out, try known good stick in all slots, boot and no picture.
put all back in, boot, no picture.
turn power on and watch the led fans run on my 15lb paper weight.

it's a never ending combination that i've tried here and i cannot get a picture on this monitor. i've swapped monitors around and all are good, i've put components from this computer into another computer and they all worked. something is not letting this thing boot up, i get no picture to the screen and no beeps sounds or anything else, i turn the computer on and you hear the fans, hard drives, and burners powering up and everything, but there is no picture going to the monitor. it sounded like bad memory because i ran into a case of that before but all the components still work when placed into the other computer. my last guess is the board has gone sour. i was reading other posts and people have mentioned the power supply, but where do i check that at? it's a codegen 350w ... Hi.Can anyone help with the following problem please? I bought a secondhand Viglen branded PC with its HD wiped and reformatted. The plan was to take the HD from our old AMD-based Time PC (AMD 1Ghz), put it into the Intel P4-based system (1.7Ghz) and give it to my son to play games on. He's young, doesn't need a 'gamers' PC as such and as long as the PC is faster than 1.5GHz, has an Nvidia card (I have a spare FX5200) and a 16 bit soundcard all should be well. Except it isn't! The PC won't boot from my existing HD. I've tried a fresh install to the wiped HD and the PC boots fine, so it's not a hardware issue, but I don't want to lose all the applications and files from my existing HD so I'd much rather use that (both HDs have XP Pro SP2 on them). My guess it that it's a software problem, possibly related to motherboard drivers resulting from changing from an AMD board to an Intel board ie my HD doesn't have the necessary drivers on it to run with the Intel board. Would this seem a logical conclusion? If so how on earth do I get them on there? Most of the drivers from the Intel site are zipped and still are more than 1.44Mb, besides which as the PC won't even boot with this HD in, how do I boot up to get the files on there from say a USB stick?Any help is much appreciated.

Answer:Swapping hard drives from AMD board to Intel board

If you have an XP installation disk (even better with SP2 on it) and can get into the Bios, set to Boot from CD and then do an XP Repair.See:click herefor details of how to do it (DON'T select the Recovery Console in error, choose to Repair).XP doesn't always like a new mobo and a Repair gets over this problem if it arises.I've done this twice with new motherboards and it's been successful each time.

Hello All,

I've been having this issue while playing games lately. I just got an Intel 2.8Ghz Prescott with 1Gig of DDR ram and I'm now using an ATI Radeon 9950 by Sapphire (256MB DDR). I dont have a sound card so I'm using the one on-board that comes with the Asus P4P800S-X motherboard (SoundMax).
While im playing a game after a reboot, everything is fine for about a minute, then the video starts lagging and lagging and getting worse and worse. Its like it locks up more and more, and the sound cuts alot. To the point that its not even close to being fun playing anymore. The game im playing is Guild Wars which requires alot less than I have. I also talk on Skype at the same time and when I'm fighting 4 or more guys, I cant even hear anything on Skype. I have a 3mbps connection on cable. And this is with the game graphics at the lowest.
Now get this... If I disable the audio in the Bios, and load up the game with full graphics... smooth nice game play... I've tested playing a long time and its perfect with no lag at all. Now I'm guessing that is pretty conclusive... Should I get a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 or could it still be something else? Conflicts? Im also running windows xp sp2.

Thanks for taking the time...

ok..bought a barebones pc of ebay.Came with a pc chips board..wouldnt post..reset jumpers and after a week of trying to get it to work finally said it was ead and went and bought a MSI KT6 board..thinking this will fix problem..installed cpu and heat sink...installed board into case and installed stick of pc700 ...turned it on..but same thing happened as before with pc chips board..fans on cpu and vga card spin but just a black screen...rset jumpers to clear and reset back..tried again..still wouldnt boot...checked to make sure it board wasnt touching case and shorting out..but everything seems to be good there..theres no beep codes...same as with pc chips board..KT6 board comes with a pci slot attachment with 2 usb and led error light..when i start pc the 4 light stay on red .In manual it says that means cpu is not installed correctly or either it is damages..reseated cpu and used some artic silver..but still same thing..and 4 led light stay red...im thinking there was nothing wrong with pc chips board..just like theres nothing wrong with msi board...Could it be the power supply? It has a cheap power supply..HERCULES..is the name on it..it weighs almost nothing...Ive tried different stick of memory and vga card..only 2 things that are comman with problem..cpu..a AMD Athlon XP 2600 333mhz and this cheap power supply..The problem has to be with either the cpu or power supply...thats what im thinking.....

Answer:from pc chips board to msi board..same problem

If ur not posting and considering what u've done coupled with the MSI diagnostics it is very likely there is a problem with this cpu.
You need to get a hold of another compatible AMD cpu just to see if u can post, from there u can confront the ebay seller for any restitution ovr the cpu if there was any kind of guarantee offered at all with the purchased items.

LCClick to expand...

you need to go into bios and go 'first display' > AGP (instead of what it says now which is probably 'Onboard agp', also go 'onboard features' (or similar name) and disable the onboard graphics. save and exit, and don't forget to change your monitor connector

then you should be fine.

So A few months ago a company bought to brand new computer that my company assembled. Here are the specs:

AMD 64 Bit 3200+ CPU, 1 GB DDR400 RAM, Case with 400W PS, MSI 939 Motherboard with onboard SATA, 120GB SATA HD , 52x32x52x CDRW Drive, 1.44MB Floppy Drive, ATI300 Video Card, Windows XP Pro /w CD Media OEM.

After about 4 months they were having a problem with USB ports going bad as well as random shutting down, and video going black. And this was happening on two different but identical computer. So I swapped both mother boards out. Everything is going good. No problems for the first few months. Now I am getting the same error as before, USB ports don't work, as well as the floppy drive. I am fairly certain that correct drivers are installed. I am going to try to replace it again. Anyone have any idea of what could be causing it. Faulty motherboards from MSI? or just luck of the draw? Anyone got any ideas?

Answer:Bad mother board? MSI Board

Maybe you can be more specific on the motherboard model. And then I can check it out for any complaints. I've owned a lot of MSI motherboards because of the reliability of this company. They make very quality boards in my opinion. But they could have a bad bunch of boards. And as a side note there customer support isn't so good though....

So Dell made a really terrible decision.  They have a transparent strip in the power button for an LED light to indicate if the power is on.  A power indicator is a given in any laptop, no matter how cheap it is.  However, Dell in all of it's genius decided to not include an LED bulb on laptops up to the Inspiron 7000 Series, despite leaving a transparent slot for it.  Seriously, what happened to this brand?!?  Do children make these laptops now?
I want to fix this, as my laptop is no longer returnable and a power indicator is absolutely necessary.  So the only thing I can think of is replacing it with one from the 7000 Series somehow (with some help probably).
This is a Dell Inspiron 5559.  I also have an Inspiron 5547.  Not sure which exact 7000 model I should get the part for...
Are they compatible?
Is there an easier way? Like how Fn+H turns on the hard drive indicator?
Thanks.

Answer:Can I replace a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series power board with a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series power board?

The systems use different case and mainboard designs -- and may even be made by different companies.  The answer in all likelihood is no.
I don't think Apple has produced a Macbook with a power indicator -- the PC vendors are playing follow Apple.

I have a terrible problem and I'm hoping this is the right board to post on!

Yesterday I was doing a little cleaning, and deleted some files that were apparently not supposed to be deleted. Now all my open browser windows have no tops, meaning I can't minimize, maximize or close a window without manually right clicking on the program in my task bar and closing it.
How can I get these files back? I also made the mistake of emptying my recycle bin after, so, please, please tell me how to get them back. I just reformatted a few weeks ago, and don't want to go through it again
I'd really appreciate any help or advice you all could give.

Oh, I don't know if it makes any difference, but I'm running XP

Thanks,
Susan

Answer:Is this the right board??

Did you right click on the upper part of the browser area, where you would type in an address, to see the options there (menu bar, standard buttons, etc.) Thats typically where you take out and replace buttons, etc.

Also, is it full screen? You may have accidentally hit the f11 button that makes your browser go full screen.

I cant imagine any files that would be removed that would cause this, so not sure restoring anything will help. We may be able to help you repair Internet Explore itself if the above 2 dont work.

Question: Top X58 board...

Just got my hands on a Rampage III and have to say it looks twice as nice in person. However there is one issue, this being the number of usb headers on the mainboard. Whilst I had read somewhere that it was lacking in this area, I didn't expect to get a threefold decrease in them! This means I will have to ditch two usb's on the front panel and my card reader. I feel this is a bit unforgivable on a board so expensive. I thought I might return it as it's unused and get another but trouble is almost all the top boards don't have the three that I need with most only having two (including the big bang xpower).

Could anyone suggest a top board with 3?

(Asus tech help is currently closed down.)According to the Asus' CPU support page, my A8n-SLI Deluxe (with the proper chipset and BIOS upbrades) will take an Opteron 185 Dual core (RevE6) CPU. But the 185 is a 2.6GHz cpu and the motherboard is only 2.0GHzI've never overclocked a board. If I buy the 185, am I supposed to overclock my board to 2.6? This seems an awful lot.ATB,Phrixos

Answer:A 2.6 CPU on a 2.0 board???

Motherboards don't have MHz speeds - it's whether it is capable of accepting higher speed processors with or without updating the Bios and/or motherboard drivers. If the CPU support page states it will accept the 2.6MHz CPU, then go ahead.

it to read bootdisk from A. A drive is okay, so says screen.
Bios is navigable. Did I get a bad board?? Can anything

a name to stick with or are they known for bad boards, i.e.

Answer:Bad Board??

Hi there,

Noooo, don't get rid of the Epox board. I have an Epox CU133A+ and it's fantastic and has been running brilliantly for over a year.

I had a similair problem once though. Tell me, is it just a boot disk it wont read or is it all floppies? Does it automatically ask if you'd like to format the disk?

If so, it sounds more like a processor fault unfortunately.

Also, I know this is a stupid question, but on boot up have you set your BIOS to try to boot from A: ? If not, do this or try boot from A only.

Write back and tell me your findings.

Thanks,

Peaker.

Answer:agp*8 in agp*4 board

The latest Asus mother boards with AGP8 won't allow the installation of lower AGP cards. If you try it a warning led comes on and the system won't power up. So I guess that AGP4 cards are, generally speaking, not compatible with AGP8 slots.

Question: AM2+ in AM2 Board

I have a gigabyte ga-m57sli-s4 and I was looking at going to an AM2+ processor at some point in the future. Have to figure out other problems first. I know the board will "work" with the newer AMDs but Gigabyte says:

(Note) If you install AMD AM2+ CPU on AM2 motherbord, the system bus speed will downgrade from HT3.0(5200MHz) to HT1.0(2000 MT/s) spec; however, the frequency of AM2+ CPU will not be impacted.

What does this mean exactly? Would a quad or tri with this impact act any better than my x2 5000 black (currently OC to 3.1). Do I need a newer board to run these in any way that will show gains.

I guess the main reason I'm asking is that Vista says my CPU has the lowest performance index of any of my parts. Like your thoughts. Thanks.

Answer:AM2+ in AM2 Board

It means that the HyperTransport link (the bus which connects the CPU to the rest of the system) will not be as fast as possible. I don't think it will bring a performance degradation on a desktop system though.

I have a very weird problem. My computer does not respond upon booting. It powers up but there is no response - the monitor stays in standby, the activity light on the CD-ROM stays ON, but in a multi-coloured manner and there's nothing I can do.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks as if power is coming to the M/Board from the PSU but not returning to the PSU to boot up the PC

The first three are for you "Sleep" modes (if your motherboard supports it, most do.) The fourth one is probably the Euro symbol ?, the fifth one is the right click menu.

I am getting a Core i7 860 tomorrow. Also a Gigabyte P55-UD4P motherboard and some Mushkin 1600 RAM (7-8-7-20)

It should give me a couple of years of good use. (I hope)

Has anyone got a P55 setup yet. Anything bad or good you have heard about the platform.

I like to try new things. I could have got the i7 920 and a decent X58 board. that's boring. haha

I am hearing the i7 860 is right up there and even outperforms the 920 in some cases.

Anybody have any experience with Mushkin RAM? I was told to try it out. My friend seems to think I will be pleased with it.

I'm also wondering if anyone has a P55 board you have run into anything strange.

Thanks

Answer:Anyone have a P55 board set up yet?

I don't have one (yet) but I have only heard great things about the P55 chipset and especially the i7 860 processor. Be sure to let us know how it goes

Question: RAM Board

I have a compaq computer that stopped booting up about six months ago after i ran the restore disks. When I took it to a shop to be checked he found that by moving the RAM card to the empty slot worked and the computer did fine but he warned he didnt know if it would stay that way.
My daughter had to run the disks again and now its doing the same thing. I was told that the problem seemed to be in the mother board. My question is ... can i take the Ram card out of that computer and put it in my IBM compatible to increase its memory ... or will there be stuff from the other computer stored on that so that i cant use it in another computer?
HELP HELP

Answer:RAM Board

turtle523
RAM (Random Access Memory) only stores information temporarily
while the computer it is installed in is running. When a computer is properly shut down one of the functions of shutdown is to write information from the vcache to your hard drive.
So no usable information is stored on the RAM card.
Swapping RAM cards from one PC to another is not recommended since there are many different configurations of RAM and RAM cards and the card you pulled from the down unit may not be compatible with your other PC. Before you attempt such a swap you should do more investigation on what type of card was in the Compaq and what type is used in the other PC. Motherboards can be very fussy.

Question: old RAM new Board

Just bought a new computer with a ASUSģ A8N-SLI: DUAL DDR, S-ATA, 2 x x16 VGA, 3 PCIin it. Its got 1GB of ram i was just wondering if i could stick the 2 x 256mb sticks of ram that are in my old computer into it and would they work. The new one is coming with 2 x 512mb modules so all 4 slots on the board would be filled. Its a dual channel board so i was wondering if putting these 2 sticks in would effect that as the are ancient.I dont know what sort of ram the old ram is or what the motherboard is but the processor was an amd athlon xp running at 1.67ghz and it had a 128mb geforce fx 5200, don't know if this helps.

nice to see that a mobo manufacturer besides ABIT is putting out the extra money to put the good japanese caps on their boards. The specs for the board says it only supports DDR 400. So does that mean it won't support a Clawhammer with 1GHz FSB? weird. Anyway if you have a 1GHz FSB you would need the PC5000. i still don't get it. Sorry I'm an Intel guy so I'm not really into AMD, but no one was answering your post so.......... I thought all the 939 socket AMD's were 1GHz FSB? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Question: On-board USB q?

Is ti possible to use 5V power from molex to power up my on-board USB because i think there is something wrong with the power.I checked the cable connection couple of times and still the same message "Usb device has malfunction" when I connect device like my joystick to another USB it works fine.

Answer:On-board USB q?

You can try.. There is a good chance of smoke emerging though

You should start with making sure it's not a Windows/driver issue. Use a Linux CD and a USB mouse to test.

Connecting a stub usb cable and measuring the voltages coming out of the port is another thing you should do before going and breaking anything.

This may not be the right place to post this but its close enough.

I need microphone help.

For the past few months my microphone just hasn't been working online! I have no clue why and nobody seems to be able to help me.

Its not because its muted or anything like that. We had a mic and it used to work but one day it just didn't work anymore so I bought a new one and that doesn't work online either.

It works fine with sound recorder, and with any voice test things for any applications, but whenever I enter an online game to use it, it seems to just shut off and disappear completely. It works while msn is running but whenever I click "start an audio conversation" it shuts off.

I am starting to get very agrivated so if you could help me out I'd appreciate it.

What's up everybody??? Its good to be part of the Board!

Well...to start I have had this problem for over a week now and Im really losing hope...

Here are the facts:

1. I have NO sound from speakers, NO drag and Drop, UNABLE to paste from a copy...so I cant get all my important files OFF my computer to reformat...

2. IE doesn't open as well as Norton Antivirus, Or System Restore or System Installer, AVG wont launch due to installer problem...

3. Ran Regedit to erase some files...but cant run SR.INF or anything since I dont have service pack 2 disc on me right now...

4. Spybot scans for a while then reboots my computer...

5. I've used everything from Avira to Spybot, Hijack This to Spyware Terminator, AVG...etc...with Avira mainly doing the most good in identifying files...

So if there is ANYONE out there who can help...I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!!!

AFter working on machine, I have found that ie won't open at all, Spybot S & D won't install, AVG won't update and Ad-Aware won't update. I installed firefox from external hard drive which works just fine. I have done online scans (HouseCall) and scanned with AVG(outdated) and Ad-Aware (outdated), all of which found items and cleaned them up. Still with same issue. Went online and ran hi-jack this and removed several more items to no avail. Question: My Mo Board

Hi all.
First post here and it a question....my pc is over 4 yrs old running at 755mghz.
I know ****all about motherboards and cpu`s so do you think i should get a new board and bigger cpu or should i just get the bigger cpu???
Thanks in advance.

Answer:My Mo Board

Well there are a few things to consider while making this decision. First off, if you are fine with the performance of your current computer, then I don't see a need to update it and spend the money. But if you are looking for something a little faster or newer, then I would definately look into updating.
If you are interested in updating it, we will need more information on what type of motherboard you have, to see how fast of a processor it can take. But if it is 4 years old I am thinking you might need to get a new motherboard and CPU.
Post back with your system specs, or fill them out in your proflie

Hi there, tomorrow im building my new pc i bought an MSI KT600 Delta motherboard on the advice in the store it was a good board because they didnt have a Soltek SL75/MRN, which they lied about but i couldent tell them they had a board they said they didnt have, also i was fooled into the price it cos me 95 pounds and i know now i can get it a lot cheaper etc etc, but im going to give it a go, BUT it hasnt come with a drivers disk (cd) and im wanting to know if i need to bother with it as im going to install Windows XP with SP1 and dont know if it will automatically find the drivers also im interested in knowing if there is somewhere i can get the cell centre software from without having to travel the 30 odd miles back to the store for more grief from the annoying assistant, also if anyone has this board is it actually any good..? ive read countless reviews and it seems pretty varied some people swear by and other well want to avoid it like the plague, i know i should have bought a board with nforce 2 bacuse every board with nforce kicks the kt600 all over the floor in every test. so if anyone can give me advice on this board ill be more than happy and will help me decide on taking it back and telling the store manager where to go!, thanks a lotsteven!

Answer:Help with my new board

well the drivers should be available for download no problems.it should have been sold to you with the drivers if they are supposed to be included in the box.if it was me i would take it back and ask nicely for a replacement that comes with all the correct driver cds in the box or get your money back.cannot comment about the board itself.

Question: board

I bought an HP spectre 360 notebook and purchased an HP accidental damage plan waranty and 2 year Care Pack. This plan covers accidental liquid spills. It has no exlcusions based on the type of liquid spill. NONE.  THERE ARE NO STATED EXCLUSIONS FOR BIOHAZARDS IN THE POLICY ACCORDING TO HP. I was at a coffee shop, and a friend bumped the table and knocked over water, coffe and tea. It spilled all over my computer. There were many witnesses. 3 keys on the computer stopped working after this liquid spill. I contacted HP and they offered to send on site repair staff, but I couldn't take 6 hours off of work to wait for them to come. HP preffered for me to send in the computer anyhow. They confrimed the liquid spill of coffee. tea, and/or water is a covered event. They sent me a box and I mailed the computer back in to them. I took photos of the computer condition before shipping. It was dry on the outside and we had shaken out as much of the liquid as we could. I sent the computer in. When it got there, I immeidately got an email about a cracked LCD. It did not have a cracked LCD when I shipped it and it was well packed. I called them and they said someone would get back to me. I then got a text about an hour later stating my computer was being shipped back to me. I figured it had been repaired. They gave no info about the computer itself. I got the box on April 27th. There were no biohazardous or dangerous material labels on... Read more

Question: PCB Board

I posted an earlier question about "PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, Check Cable"
I've been intouch with HP who told me it was probably the Hard Drive & the MB but a local PC store says that both are unlikely to be down, he tried to connect to the HD using an adapter but he couldn't detect it. So it's most likely the HD. Before I go buying a new HD I read about a PCB Board for sale on Ebay that fixes 50% of bad drives. I'm not sure of the likelyhood of this working - could it really work? and is it easy to change whatever I have to change?

Question: Need a 939 Board

Okay guys, I figured out my extremely long problem that I've been asking about, and it turn out it is the motherboard.

So now I need to choose a new board, since I cannot get an ABIT (too sensative with my hardware aparently), I need the next best thing.

I would LOVE to get a DFI, but none are AGP.

I also have an XP-120 Heatsink that I like a lot. Out of the case, and without Abits screwed up temperature issues, the ASUS board I am testing right now reads the CPU @ 26C. So I'm not giving up the Heatsink for compatability issues.

Here is the XP-120 Compatability chard. Although not PERFECTLY exact for some people, it is very close to what Ive read. Also, I want to be able to use DIMM1, so none of that giving up DIMM slot 1 stuff: http://www.thermalright.com/a_page/m...d_xp120_k8.htm

So far I have come across this choice. It is a Giga-byte, but as much as some of you hate them I think they are pretty solid, and it works with both AGP and the XP-120: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...128-254&depa=1

I am really going to miss the uGuru on the ABIT, but what good is it when it has extremely faulty temperature readings? Even abit confirms the problem but doesn't fix it.

So, any suggestions???

Answer:Need a 939 Board

Gigabyte K8NS-Ultra 939, you'll love it.

I don't know who you've been talking to. But gigabyte is the best choice out there =)

I just moved an old hand me down hp 6730 to a different case so i can upgrade it. when i formatted the hard drive and installed a fresh copy of win 98se, i got an error. the initial scandiskafter the os install came up with errors in directory structure and file systems. I reformatted a few times and still got the same error. I figured the hard drive was bad, so I took it to my 'real' pc and reformatted and installed 98se and it worked perfectly. I then took the new drive with the os on it and reinstalled it on the "junk" computer. upon bootup, it quickly flashed the win98 sceen, and than a "system.ini cannot be found" message appeared. what gives? aside from the case, power supply (whick is more powerful) cd rom/burner and floppy drive, evertying is from the same computer, even the power switch. i have trried for a week to fix this and i am stumped. can someone please point me int he right direction? thanks!

Answer:bad board, hd or cpu?

trash it and buy a Mac!

nah jk

when moving a hard drive with an OS to a different PC with a different board it usually requires different settings which is normally done with a repair install, or reinstall.
but since installing fresh didn't work I think this is either not the problem, or only part of the problem
it could be a bad part (part of the mobo, BIOS, video card etc)

or

you also said it couldn't find system.ini
put the drive in the 'real' PC, do a search for system.ini (start, search) and see what it comes up with
if it does find system.ini it might be in the wrong directory, or does not have the right info

Hi Gang,

Is anyone out there using a X58 board and 3GB of ram using Windows XP or Vista 32-bit?

If so, does Windows recognize all 3GB and what board do you have?

I have an EVGA X58 SLI board and only 2GB of the 3GB is recognized due to onboard peripherals taking up the rest. It's a known issue, and EVGA says to use a 64-bit O/S.

I plan on using Windows XP 32-bit on 2 more X58 builds and I want to make sure I pick the right board.

Answer:X58 board and 3GB of ram with a 32-bit O/S?

This is the pitfall of x32 OS's, you can only run ~3Gb of RAM total, this counts GPUs as well, if you must use 3Gb of RAM without GPU then you will need a x64 OS.

Why are you so opposed to running x32 anyways? Seems like you have everything for x64 and pretty much everything will run now a days on x64 anyways.

Question: What board?

I'm planning on upgrading my processor later on to a core 2 duo e6750. The thing is what motherboard should I get because right now I'm on a dell E510 and the current motherboard in my computer doesn't support core 2 duo processors.
What's a good motherboard that will fit and is not too pricey?

Thanks.

Answer:What board?

You are likely better off building a whole new pc, rather than try to upgrade a dell. You may run into problems and find out that only other dell parts will fit your case.

If you think that you may want to upgrade in the future then it is best to build your own pc and stay away from propriatary parts. This way you won't have to worry about adding a new psu, mobo, etc.

Question: board

Laptop under warranty, including accidental damage, until spring, 2016.  Sent it for repairs...blotches on screen and keyboard failure 4 days ago.  Received it back today, july 10, w/ a note claiming device contains "biohardous material" and cannot ever be repaired by HP due to health danger to support techs.  What the hell sort of biohazard can a computer contain?  I'm elderly, live alone, keep the device on a table by itself.  There is no radioactivity within hundreds of miles of here.  I have NO health issues which would constitute a biohazard: early cataract, mild depression, occasional insomnia, high blood pressure.   What constitutes a biohazard so dangerous that a tech's health might be endangered?  I'm on a fixed income and cannot afford another computer.  I am at a total loss.  Is this some scam to avoid honoring a warranty on a not-too-popular device?  Please advise.  Thanks!

Answer:board

Read more

Hey guys. Is it ok to plug in a 20-pin PS (Antec SmartPower lets say) into a 24-pin PCI-E board using 20 to 24 pin adapter? We are simply changing the interface here obviously. That being said, are there any problems that might arise due to power delivery and such?..

Don't really know the difference between v2.0 vs v1.3 power supplies other than the interface.

Answer:20 pin PS on a 24-pin board

No major problems should arise. If you do have problems, just buy a 24pin PS.

Just for FYI im running a 24pin Mobo off of 20pin PS, with no adapter.
No problems here.

Hi guys! How can i identify the proper driver for my driver on my onboard agp vid accelerator... I recently formatted my computer and forgot to get the details of my driver.. now im having problems with my vid adpater... help please

Answer:On board AGP Vid RAM

Try PC Wizard - linked below on my sig. I don't know if it'll work on a driverless board. Also, you can look at your motherboard, locate the model number - look it up with google.com

its either Intel, Nvidia, ATI/AMD, VIA or SIS.
