Resizing User Account Picture in Start Menu

Question: Resizing User Account Picture in Start Menu

Is it possible to increase the size of the User Account picture that displays on the top right side of the Start Menu in Windows Vista Home Premium? It's larger at the windows login screen but tiny in the start menu. Am I hoping for too much?

Preferred Solution: Resizing User Account Picture in Start Menu

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Resizing User Account Picture in Start Menu

Hello Bang, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Sorry, but that cannot be changed in Vista unless some 3rd party skinning program has that option.

Sorry,

Hello, is this possible? Thanks.
Edit: What I want to do is remove the entire picture space so that the start menu can extend all the way to the top.

Answer:Remove User picture from start menu?

You will need the program Restorator to do this get it -=> Here
You will also need the HexEditor VXI32..

1. Open the mssytles file in Restorator 2007 Extract variant > normal
2. Open the normal file in VXI32
3. Ctrl + G
4. Enter 0144c8 in decimal and press OK
5. Replace 01 with 00
6. Save
7. Drag normal file back into restorator replacing the original
8. Save
9. Restart themes service

I would imagine you would need to create and edit your own image first, and then just browse to it to use it for your user account.

Here's one solution that i have developed for this specific problem.
Place the .exe wherever you want, then run it once to set it as an autostart item for Windows.
The user picture will vanish from existence.

It will only re-appear if you change the Theme or if you reposition the taskbar around your desktop, but then again you can manually run the .exe once more.

Works for Windows Vista, Windows 7.

Answer:Remove User Picture from Start Menu

Thank you. Too bad it doesn't play nice with vertical task bars. Since this exe doesn't remove the margin where the user picture used to be and in vertical view the entire user picture is 'inside' the right pane of the start menu, you get a large amount of blank space in the right pane. Oh well.

Hello All,

This is my first post, I do hope someone may be able to help assist me..

I simple wish to remove the user picture, not change it, remove it completely. I did it on Vista but the same does not work on Win7.

Just to clarify, click on orb. Top right you see user picture. Go to Music, Computer etc and the image changes. I want to remove the image.

I have Aves style builder which I used with Vista but does not seem to work well with Win7.

I've gone way beyond the limits of customizing my system. I've had it with icons, pictures. Some things I like to just be in image but I've turned into someone that no one will understand and I'm not looking for anyone to. For me, it's all about simplicity.

So my deal is...

I want to REMOVE or HIDE the user picture on the Start menu in Vista.

Is there a way?

Here is my Start Menu now: (so if I could hide the user picture - my transformation would be complete) :) I know you're all going to think I'm totally weird for having it the way I do but I just like it. It's simple. I'm all too familiar with the registry but not enough that if what I'm asking for is in the registry somewhere, then I would just please ask to be told where so I can make the appropriate modifications. There has to be a way. So, thanks if anyone can help. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Answer:Hide/remove user picture in start menu.

I want to REMOVE or HIDE the user picture on the Start menu in Vista.

I didn't try this but I found on other forums this method:

1. Open the mssytles file in Restorator 2007 Extract variant > normal
2. Open the normal file in VXI32
3. Ctrl + G
4. Enter 0144c8 in decimal and press OK
5. Replace 01 with 00
6. Save
7. Drag normal file back into restorator replacing the original
8. Save
9. Restart themes service

Probably you can also use other hex editor -as I said above I've never tried this...

Is there a registry edit or is there somewhere I can go to change the size of pictures that an account uses? I have a few banners that would look cool as an account pic but by defauly they are resized to fit in the small 64x64 square that Windows uses.

Ok, so I am having a strange problem. In my PC's admin account, when I attempt to switch users by:
Start Menu > (click user account)
The start menu disappears / rolls back down. I cannot switch users this way, but this only affects my admin account. What can I do to make it work like normal?

Answer:Start Menu Closes if User Account Selected

Update: In the course of using the computer today, I restarted, and came back into the admin account referenced above. Now it works, BUT, the start menu doesn't open (and the search bar doesn't either) on the computer' other user account. I had to Win-X to get out of that account.

System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

I cannot successfully execute 'pin to start menu' in the standard user account on my laptop. Here is what I do:
- Navigate to folder containing the program of interest
- Right click on executable and select 'pin to start menu'
- Click on start button
- However the pinned shortcut does not show in the start menu items

If I go back to the folder containing the program of interest and right click on the executable, the 'pin to start menu' still shows in the menu so clearly the above did not work.

Why doesn't this work? What can I do to fix this? Do you need any other information?

When I choose a new picture it automatically resizes to 128 x 128. My problem is that when you click on the image to login, it increases to what seems to be 256 x 256, but rather then using the source image and resizing that it appears to just scale the 128 x 128 image up, leading to a terrible looking image.

I figured that I might be able to get around this by seeing how the default images work since their larger versions look fine. Looking into the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\Default Pictures all of the images seem to be 128 x 128, so I figured that there must be another folder with 256 x 256 versions of all these images for when the larger image is displayed, but am unable to find such a folder.

So basically my question is, is there anything I can do to have a decent quality image for my account image?

Answer:User account image resizing issue.

Welcome to Seven Forums TheUselessNoob. I am unable to recreate that behavior. That is, the logon picture scaling to twice the size when you click on it?

On my SP4 running Windows 10 (non-insider), I notice that my start menu resizes for it self. Like if I close the surface or wake it up from hibernating or something, SOMETIMES the start menu goes from 3 columns wide to 2 columns wide. This is really annoying.
Again, it does not happen all the time.
Does this happen to anyone else?

Good evening from Graz,

i have quite a strange problem on my personal pc since the last few days. I cannot login to my useraccount(which has a transparent picture at the logon screen since a few days).
I have just one workarround: if i login with my adminaccount and logoff, the userpicture of my privateaccount appears again and the login is possible.

What could this problem be related to?

Somehow I must have locked out my start menu button for users (which I log on to use my computer). Lately when I click on the start menu it doesn't work. I can left click on it and bring up the window with written choices. Did I do something that doesn't allow me to left click on the start menu as a user?

Answer:My Admin Login Can Use My Windows 10 Start Menu But As A User Start Menu Doesn't Work.

Hi

One approach that could work for this is to use Powershell, so if you have the search box type powershell and right click and run as admin it, then once open paste this line below in and hit enter, let it run and if you see red text dont worry its normal

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Once run reboot and test the Start menu, you may have to populate the Start menu with the common used apps if you added any, but it should leave the choices you made intact.

Hello-
I am using Windows XP Professional 2002 x86 SP3. I use the Windows log on screen because I need to password protect my pc because of the nature of work that I do. My install of XP is relatively fresh and the only issue I am experiencing is that I can't change the picture on the log on screen. I know, it sounds trivial, but it makes me wonder what other issues are going on that I am not aware of. I have posted on a couple of other Forums with no resolution to this issue. I have run 'sfc.exe /scannow' with no luck. In 'User Accounts', I am the only User and Administrator. Any help towards resolution would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Answer:User Account Picture

I am confused and think I am missing something. I am unsure what /scan now has to do with changing your profile picture.

1.In Control Panel, double-click User Accounts.
2.Click the account for which you want to change the picture.
3.Click Change the picture.
4.Click a picture in the window, or click Browse for More Pictures, and then click the picture that you want to use.
5.When this picture is highlighted in the window, click Change Picture.

Note that this is not supported on computers that are a member of a domain.

Am I missing the bigger picture here?

Hello,

I have tried to find an answer to this but cannot. Lately, I noticed my User Account Picture was not the picture I had selected. In addition, the Background Picture for my Windows 7 Home Premium edition log on screen was changed. This happened after running a program that is for exams at school which reboots your computer into a safe mode where the only program available is a rudimentary word processor.

I contacted the company that makes that software, Examsoft, and they told me how to get my default logon picture for my Windows Logon background back.

To address the User Account picture, I went into Control Panel > User Accounts and attempted to "change picture". This is not an option, however, for my administrator user account. It is an option for my guest account. I tried cloning my account without the bad .dat files, but that didn't work either as the new account I had created, also an administrator account, did not display a "change picture" option in control panel either.

I ran sfc /scannow, and it found no errors.

I am not sure what to do. Has anyone encountered this? Can you please help me?

Attached is a screen shot:

Thank You.

Hi Everyone. I am stuck right now. I dont know exactly what happened but my account picture on Vista randomly changed to an orange flower. I can not change it through control pannel or user settings or anything. If I click on another picture to be used, nothing changes. I saw a thread for this problem here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f108...re-369825.html

This thread listed takes you to another thread with the "resolved" issue. The steps , however, that this solved thread told me to do didnt work. This is the advice that worked for the others:

"Another MVP had told me how to disable the new Win XP FAX and Picture
Previewer by going Start>Run>regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll
I turned it back on with Start>Run>regsvr32 shimgvw.dll"

The problem is, if I run "regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll" I get a notice on vista saying : "The module "shimgvw.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegister Server was not found. Make sure that shimgvw.dll is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again."

I really am stuck and I dont know what to do to fix this problem. Please help, thanks

Hello, I have a problem with windows vista that I cannot figure out alone. The problem is that when I try to change my user account picture to something else, it always reverts back to the default orange flower picture on log off or restart (it DOES change the login picture, but NOT the start menu or user account pictures). I have tried everything. I fixed it temporarily by copying the my user account picture to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures and renaming it "user", but I want the ability to change it without going to that hassle. I found one "solution" that told me to run regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll but it gave me an error message ("The module "shimgvw.dll" was loaded but the entry point DllUnregisterServer could not be found. Please make sure "shimgvw.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and try again." or something like that). Can anybody help?

No, they are smaller on the first screen because there is more than one.

I have after a long time searching ended up here on this forum.

What I want to do is simply to remove the picture & frame on my login screen, only the password, my name, switch user should be left on the screen.

To clarify, I don't want to:
Remove the whole login screen.
Remove password protection.
Remove anything else except for that picture and frame.

Thats pretty much it, I would be really thankful if somebody could help me with this because I'm close to changing to linux just to get rid of it .

Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know of a way, or an app, which would allow me to have my user account picture update every the login / lock screen is displayed?

Basically I have a folder full of images that I like to use as my account picture, but instead of changing it every week or whatever, I'd like for it to change every time I login, so next time the login/lock screen is shown, it's different..

Does anyone know of anything like this? Or would be able to make a simple script to do it?

EDIT: Ok I've made a script which updates the user profile .bmp file, but changing that file does NOT update the user profile picture if it's a local user (it works for domain users apparently).. Any idea where the actual edit needs to be made / what cache needs dropping?

Thanks for any help!

Answer:Auto-changing user account picture?

Hmmm. I fired up Process Monitor (PM) and was not able to see the step(s) that you need to do to get the desired results. You might want to spend more time on it than I did. Filter PM on Explorer and record/monitor the events that take place when you manually change a user's picture via Control Panel > User Accounts.

The profile bmp that you mentioned can be deleted if this is for a local user account - even after a restart, the user image is coming from somewhere else.

If you really want to dig into this issue - you can run PM from one user account while you log off and on to another user account. PM should show you where W7 is getting the image from for the log on screen.

Myself being the administrator on my home pc I created another user account that can be used by my kids. I noticed a problem when attempting to open jpeg photos while signed in to this account. I assumed the same program that I have set for this task on my account would launch when attempting to open a pic. Instead a window pops up that says something like "there is no program associated with this file type. Please choose a program from a list or search the web for a suitable program". When I attempt to choose the same program I use and I check "always use this program" the photo will open in said program but once I close it and attempt to open it again the same thing happens all over again. Why is this happening..?

Answer:user account picture viewing problem

Hello Mrmars

Here is another way to try to make it stick

Open a Windows Explorer window such as 'My Computer' then go to
Tools\Folder Options.
From the folder options, select the 'file types' tab, and wait while Windows builds the list of file types present on your PC.

Scroll through the 'registered file types' box until you find jpeg.
Highlight it and hit the 'change' button below to select a new application to open this file type by default.

Answer:Unable to change User account picture

Hello Tally,

You might check to see if it opened a window that may be hidden behind another opened window. Sometimes these windows are small and can easily be covered up.

If not, then try a sfc /scannow command to see if it can find and fix any bad system files that may be responsible. Afterwards try again.

Hope this helps,

The image will always be that default size though, I'm not aware of a way to change it.

Is it possible to change the local user account picture at the windows logon screen via a command prompt.

Reason I need to do this is because I have about 200 workstations where the same exact local account needs to get created and a specific user account picture needs to be applied.

Answer:Change user account picture via command line

I don't know about copying just the picture. Log in as an Admin on the computer with the account you want to copy and Right click My Computer/Properties/Advanced/System Profiles. Highlight the Account you want to copy (you cannot be logged into the account you want to copy) and choose Copy To. Choose a Network Share. Then Copy it to each of the computers in question that you want to have the account on. this should also include the picture.. Maybe someone can write a batch file that would send it to all of the computers in the network in one click.

I'm trying to find the file location for the user account picture, I found a page that said it was in programData\microsoft\... etc. All I can find in there is the user.jpg (as it said), but that's a random flower, not the picture I set it to, also in there i find a Brydon.dat (my computer and account's name), but it's a blank file.
I'm on an HP computer running windows 7 ultimate (OEM) and the default picture was the HP logo.

Answer:User account picture location HP windows 7 ultimate.

I set up my Windows 8.1 tablet offline at my dad's and used a nude photo of my girlfriend as the user account picture. All done offline. About a week later, the tablet forced me to link it with my Microsoft account in order to continue to log into windows. Now I am finding that same nude picture is showing up when I am on the Microsoft website. That would not make my girlfriend happy if she found that out and I don't think the public needs her urinating. How can I prevent it from automatically posting it online. When I go to my account using a web browser, I can change it back to the Sylveon I originally had, and my user account on the tablet will still be my girlfriend, but eventually the nude photo returns to the Microsoft website. How do I stop this?

Answer:prevent Windows 8 from taking my user account picture and posting it to MS Websi

I don't know if you can stop it. I believe that if you log in to windows 8.1  everything you do with a Microsoft account if you log in to your computer that way will be transferd to all your devices  using that account.

I am logged on as administrator for my laptop, and whenever I turn on my comp. I use a password that allows me to logon.

My question is this, in the start menu, why does my picture not appear beside my name. Is it because of this administrator setting?

I have checked in my user account, and the image is perfectly visible there. Even if i try to apply it, all that happens is my name only shows. Not the picture.

Interested in knowing how to solve this...

Answer:Start Menu Picture and Name

I got this at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm [under user picture]
"How to Add a Specific Picture

Find a picture you are interested in using and use Save As to download and/or move the picture in question to your My Pictures Folder. Then go to User Account/Change my picture/Browse for more pictures/My Pictures Folder/Choose the picture you want to use, then click Open.

Summary of an image is 48x48/71 dpi, depth 24.

Note: If you have disabled Picture and Fax Viewer by using regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll, you will not be able to change the picture. To restore, go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

Hey. A couple of issues with W10 start menu ( - not sure if they're symptoms of the same thing. This is GA x64 W10 with all current updates installed

1) Pin to start menu doesn't pin anything to the start menu. I wanted to pin File History - R click in control panel, select Pin to Start - doesn't pin. Tested on another machine and it works there.

2) R click the Start button for the Power User menu - all I see is Network Connections - same result with Win X. Again, works as expected on another install.

Any ideas to save me doing a re-install?

Edit - SFC reports no violations.

Edit - switched to a local account on the machine and PU menu is there and working - so is this a permissions thing? My original account is admin.

Answer:W10 Pro Start menu problems - can't pin and (almost) empty User menu

Win X menu problem resolved by copying win X group files from users/default appdata to users/me appdata.

I'm running identical Vista Enterprise computers in a lab environment on a Windows Domain, and am having an issue with the user account picture.  Namely, on the user logon screen, just above the fields for the username and password, there's a giant empty frame where the user account picture should be.

I've already replaced the user.bmp and guest.bmp, so that our company logo will show up for users in the start menu after they've logged in, and will show up in the logon window for their user name if they've locked their session, but I'm unable to get the picture to show up on the original logon screen before the user logs in.

Some group policies we have include:

Interactive logon: Do not display last user name
  Enabled

Interactive logon: Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL
  Enabled

Always use classic logon
   Enabled

So far I haven't found any good info that refers to this problem.  I've only seen two posts on these forums that come close to the problem I'm having, but neither touch on it directly and provide a solution.  They are:
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2233417&SiteID=17
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=964037&SiteID=17

Does anyone know if it's even possible to force a user account picture to be displayed on the Vista logon screen when on a domain?  Thanks in advance.

Using Classic Shell or Ex7forW8 to get back your start menu, you still have your user profile picture. I want to use an animated gif for this. possible? Found a really cool pic of a 4 dimensional cube called a tesseract. Tesseract - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My thinking is this might work because you can use animated images on the desktop wallpaper but I tried it and it doesn't work - any way to get it to work?

I found you cant use an animated gif directly in win 7 or 8 like you could in XP How to Set Animated Gifs as Desktop Wallpaper - Windows 7 Support Forums But this solution allows you to use movie files, so all i need to do is get this working and create a movie file with a loop.. LOL yeah right.. i think i need a better solution.

Closest i found is this Animated User Pic on Windows 7 by ~dejco on deviantART

Answer:Possible to use an animated gif for a start menu picture?

I don't think that can happen with the Start Screen. I know the ability to get DreamScenes running in Windows 8 was basically killed off with the WDM module as it was optimized for efficiency. But that's the Desktop, on Start, I really doubt that can happen. MAYBE, a third party can figure that out, but it seems REAL iffy to me.

No matter what I do. I've done all the usual, tried changing picture, changing back, gone into every setting I can think of. In the User Account, it shows the picture there. But when I click on start, all I get is the blue bar with my name.

It's been this way for months, and is NOT earth shattering - don't really need to see a picture up there instead of a big blank spot, but it's annoying that I can't figure it out. I hate unresolved problems, sticky though they may be.

Thanks for any advice.

really want to change the windows 7 start menu background. i have been trying to understand the few tutorials i found here but none of them seem to be blatant enough for my understanding.. i have installed "restorator 2009" "uxstylecore x64" and "resheack" i attempted to follow a tutorial for restorator. but it does not seem to work as they describe. i copied the aero.msstyles file to desktop and opened it with restorator. then it says to go to images but i do not get an images folder only these. mui/string/version. also upon instructions i installed dark 7 theme but that just makes my explorer turn to basic. i am so lost i have been tweaking windows 7 for quite a while and never had a problem understanding instructions but a must be missing something crucial. caan anyone provide a good tutorial for changing the windows 7 start menu background? without paying a dime. thanks for any help.

Answer:windows 7 start menu background picture?

UxStyle Core does not modify themes, it just circumvents the Microsoft Protection so you can be able to use Custom themes.

Resource Hacker/resheack, only allows you to modify 32bit files. as far as I know

Dont know much about creating themes but the only other software I know of is Win7 Style Builder $22 bucks, or Skinstudio $20. I know your looking for something for free, but I dont think a free one exists ???

I know you can edit the shellstyle.dll's and .msstyles with restorator but have not played around with it for so long i forgot all the details?

I would Start at a few Forums that focus on Windows 7 style building

CreativeX and Virtual Customs are both great forums check em out!

For the second one, you may have the welcome screen disabled. Go to control panel (classic view), user accounts, change the way users log on or off, check the box use the welcome screen, and click apply.

For the first one, try switching user picture in user accounts in control panel, then setting it back.

On a laptop which had one locked account (listed as administrator I believe) I have lost the user name. There are no accounts listed on the start up window. ctrl/alt/del just pops up a window with name/password and those aren't working for the account that is supposed to be on the computer. I am wondering if the account got deleted somehow. The only thing I tried to do last night was remove an old existing internet account to make way for a new one. I booted fine after this, but now all I get is "please click on user name to log in" with no names listed. I have tried to use F8 on boot in safe mode to get the "administrator" account to open but this failed also. Is there a way to by pass the start up screen and go directly to a desk top so that I can then access the registry to check for the missing account, or can I access the registry from boot. Thank you for any and all suggestions.

Answer:Help! no user names on start menu

I find it odd that you don't have any names to click on. If there was only one windows account (nothing to do with internet) then it should automatically boot into windows. The administrator account does not show up in normal mode by default.

hello i'm new here so i hope someone will see this..
thanks for anyone who might be able to help me..
i installed vista a few weeks ago...being the economical person i am, i decided to go thru all my extraneous directories that windows installs and delete a few things i know i'd never use...mostly public junk, etc etc...i also understand that vista is smart, actually modifying what it shows you depending on the things you use most, bla bla bla..
i'm the only one using my puter and i've set the account up with admin priviledges..

just recently, i've noticed that my name is no longer displayed in the start menu just above the "documents" button & underneath my display picture, and i'm concerned about it...i'm thinking maybe it had something to do with those directories i've deleted in the public area...OR maybe vista just realised that by now i'm the only one who ever touches my puter and has chosen to assume it's always me and not show my name anymore..
i don't know but i'd like to know why this is happening, and if i choose to, how i can restore it?
i've tried in the policy manager but none of those settings seem to make a difference...

any ideas?

thanks for any help anyone could offer

Answer:no user name on vista start menu?

The User Name appears on the Start menu.

Did you use a reg Editor/cleaner to "delete" anything?
If you did, you probably deleted something you shouldnt have, and corrupted Windows. If possible you may be able to Undo it with System restore, or you may need to re-install Vista.

A week into clean re-install and regret not opting to enter my user name when opted to in start menu, as just now find I'm unable to right-click on my  start menu's user photo (nothing happens whatsoever).  Pretty sure that's not right. Hopefully the fix's less than  something like repairing from the CD-DVD ROM, unless that could be done w-o losing programs and updates, especially SP-1, which given the outdated IE9 browser, took me weeks of refusing offers of upgrading to W10, before it would download, Using SR to go back and forth, if that would've/could've helped, isn't an option as WUC wiped those RP's. I used to refer to myself as an advanced newbie, but now I realize that we users can often be our own worst enemy. Advance kudos? for the help, as this forum rocks. wguru

Well, it all started when I was on Facebook and everything froze. Rebooted to Safe Mode, shut down and started again. When I started it, McAfee was enabled for a few seconds, but then on-access scan was disabled.
Went into McAffee - I could enable everything except the on-access scan. It was grayed out.
Turned off wireless (not the modem - just the internal connection through Netgear.)

Ran McAfee again. Stil nothing.
Rebooted - now I couldn't re-connect. Clicked on Netgear shortcut and nothing. Program wouldn't load.

Husband took over!

He uninstalled and reloaded Netgear; got internet working again. Rebooted and both user accounts came up in Windows.
Shut down for the evening.
(False sense of security, no pun intended)

Turned it on this morning - only my user access again, although Mcaffee and Netgear appear to be working fine. That's when I ran Adaware and found the malware that Adaware quarantined.

Additional info: At somepoint last night, I noticed a program in the add remove programs list called simply "<" that is .80 MB... Read more

Answer:User account missing from start up

Hi and Welcome to BleepingComputer, I would start out by doing a scan with Malwarebytes...It can be downloaded from...http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.phpScroll down to where you see the button "Download Free Version"Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. (If it will not download, install, or open after installation, change the name of it to whatever you want and change the .exe extension to .bat or .com or .pif or scr and then double click on it to run.)When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found". Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process. After running that scan, post the complete log of the results here and then download, install, update... Read more

Hello,

Im having problems with start up on my vista computer. Since 2 days ago ive been experiencing problems at the welcome screen. We have got 5 users including guest on the computer. It starts up and says welcome for a split second, then usually the 5 users come up so we can pick one, but its now nothing coming up until i press a few buttons.
So i took the password off one of the users and it comes on and it has a spasm attack when i click on the window button it clicks by itself and when i try to lock or log off it logs straight back on. but i do not experience this on my user account.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks.

Hi thereOn this PC I only have one account. The account isn't password protected. The thing is, if windows xp boots, you still have to click on the name of that user account. I don't reallly like that. So does anybody knows how you boot automitically (without still clicking on the name in the welcomescreen) from this only account, not password protectedthanksblackberry

Answer:Automatically start up from the only user account

Control Panel-->User Accounts-->Change the way users log on or off-->Disable "Use the Welcome screen".

Hello, I'm having a problem and I'm not sure what to do. I installed a program to my main user account which is an administrator account. When I click on the program to open, the mouse pointer changes like the program is going to load and then it stops. I logged into my second user account which is also an administrative account and the program opens without any problems.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:Program Won't Start in One User Account But Will In The Other

Welcome to the Forums, sapphy.
When you first installed the program, did you say that it was for all users on your computer or just for one of your users? That might be the problem.

HiThis problem started recently and I can't work out why because I don't remember installing anything or making any changes at the time.I'm on XP Home and my user account is an administrator one. When I try to start IE it opens a window but automatically closes again before any webpage is loaded.I checked the homepage properties to make sure no malware had snuck in and done anything, but it looks fine.Link sent to me in emails also cause IE to start then close almost instantly.I was on IE7 so thought I'd try installing IE8, but that's had no effect. All other user accounts on the machine are fine, so it must be something to do with my account. The only thing that I did recently was try to install my VirginMedia wireless router (haven't got that working yet).I did a Google search and tried to move one of the DLLs to a different folder, but this didn't change anything.Any ideas? Thanks

Answer:IE fails to start - only my user account!
