DVD driver fails to load - Help!!!

Question: DVD driver fails to load - Help!!!

My windows vista home premium 64 bit sp2 4gb ram Medion system has stopped my device driver for my dvd-rom (HL-DT-ST DVD Ram GH22NS40) from working properly (having previously working well for 2years). This all happended after I connected a new iHBS212 bluray drive (which is havng the same issue & I have also disconnected this and still my old drive wont work).I now get an error code 39 message and a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. I have updated the motherboard bios and windows vista OS and have tried unistalling and reinstallinmg the driver as well as searching for a solution online (I cannot access the drivers or firmware for either device from the liteon website as it gives the following error message "Database error: cannot connect to Database Can't connect to MySQL server on '202.145.180.11' (4)MySQL Error Session halted."
If you are able to obtain the drivers and firmware for these drives and eith post a link or send me the files to try and resolve this that would be great or if you can offer any other advice - please get in touch. **NB** I have seen a simmilar issue for toshiba drives and see that the solutions suggested involve updating the drivers - hence the request.- Kind Regards - Dave

Preferred Solution: DVD driver fails to load - Help!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yesterday, I had an important windows update: " Advance micro devices Inc. Driver update for AMD SMBus." The update failed to load 4 different times! So I went to device manager, and in the list it had no such devise. It did list "Universal serial bus controllers". So I do not think it is the same.

Two things strike me as not being right. 1. Why would an AMD driver update be listed as a critical Windows update? 2. On update history, every update that was ever done on this computer has a KB******* I.D. number after it being that it was either successful or failed. The download attempted was listed as Failed, but no KB number after it. I do have the windows update icon in the system tray.

I do know that the wrong people are getting very experienced at attacking computer systems! My concern definitely raises a couple of red flags here.

Could someone please comment as to what may be happening?

Hello,

Thanks for your help in advance.

Problem: I have Windows 10 on a Shuttle Sz77R5. When I restart it, it fails to get back into windows. BSOD while booting windows. I see the logo and rotating circles, then it goes into BSOD with frowny face :-( and after several attempts it still does not work. Tools to fix it to make it bootable do not work. I have to revert to a system image and try another fix and pray that it will get back into windows. I am restoring an image right now and so I cannot post sysinfo utility information. I am pretty experienced but not an expert and I've tried many things and ruled out many things. I think I am close to the source of the problem but need advice (I think it is drivers, see below). At one point I was able to get into safe mode even though I could not get into regular mode, then eventually I can't even get into safe mode.

The working image that I cannot safely restart has all the latest 64-bit drivers from Shuttle's website and any that Windows wanted to install newer than those. Leading up to the problem, I had great difficulty upgrading to 1507 and Anniversary Update. Eventually, I did an in-place upgrade and it successfully installed and even was able to reboot (after only one failure before loading windows each time). Eventually, rebooting messes it up so much that I cannot get back into windows despite trying startup repair, restore points, or even third party macrium fix boot issues. Now I'm back to my pre-a... Hi u01545n and welcome to TSF !

Make sure you have SP2 installed. You can find out by going to start => run and typing winver or by going to your system properties (windows key + pause/break key). It's also advised you go to Windows update and make all latest critical updates.

This is my 2nd attempt to install a brand new WD4003FZEX in my Windows 7 x64 machine. I assumed the first one was bad, so I exchanged it for another. I am NOT new to PCs, in fact I am ashamed to say I'm a tech with 15+ years experience and this one has me stumped. I have installed countless drives, and this one should be dead easy!

Windows simply says it failed to find the driver. The BIOS does see and correctly identify the drive. The motherboard is a modern Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H with UEFI, so no problem there.

I would be very grateful to anyone that can help me solve this.

My 5 months old SSD crashed and I replaced it with a Macrium created mirror.  Everything seems to work except the computer no longer recognizes USB drives.  The USB drives are good (checked on other devices), I've removed and reinstalled all USB hubs and drivers - the chip drivers and bios are up to date and the USBs are enabled in the BIOS AND I've done several virus scans (online and local) in safe mode (Malwarebytes, Spybot, ESET, Defender, AVG, Housecall).  The USBs are recognized on boot but once Win7 boots the USB for storage devices no longer work.... however, the USB recognize keyboards and the mouse.  Guessing a new OS install will fix it, however, I would rather not reinstall everything. recap -+ everything was working+ SSD failed+ Replaced with Mirrored SSD+ USB storage devices no longer works when Win7 boots up (they are recognized prior to boot)+ Non-storage USBs work (e.g., keyboard)+ USB identifies a 3.0 USB drive plugged in to a USB 2.0 and says it can work faster if plugged in to the 3.0 USB but fails to load driver no matter what USB it is plugged in to (same for all USB thumb drives or larger USB external drives) Previously, I've uninstalled ALL USB items in the Device Manager and the USB with the Disk Drive error and no luck.  I've reinstalled drivers from http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds015025 and run hours of anti virus scanning from Safe Boot and no luck - appears to be a clean machine.  I've also roll... RESOLVED The Samsung 840 EVO Magician or RAPID software was causing the problem (not sure which).  Uninstalled both and have access to USB drives again.  Hope this help someone. Samsung tech support claims the 840 EVO drive will likely last 5 years not the 10+ claimed on the Samsung site.  I am glad I bought two...  My 840 EVO lasted 5 months and when replacing the failed SSD with the mirror is when the conflict with the USB drivers started.

I recently installed the program Super Utilities Pro to clean up my system a little bit. The next time I turned on my computer I received the following message:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

File: \Windows\System32\Drivers\HWFProt.sys
Status: 0xc0000221
Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.

From reading the following post I can tell that I need to uninstall Super Utilities Pro however, I am unable to get past this error message when windows boots up. I downloaded my copy of Windows Vista from my school and so I do not have a boot disk...the files are on the hard drive.

If someone can help, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

As stated in the subject, when I got my new laptop and went through all the updates and finally returned to it, it had caused my fingerprint sensor to no longer work. When inspected through Device Manager, it throws Error Code 31: it states that the driver is up-to-date but Windows has failed to load the driver properly. With either restarting, removing and updating drivers, or reinstalling windows, I have failed to develop a manner of fixing this. Any help would be lovely. Thanks in advance!

I have tried everything I know to do.  I am an IT Pro with 30 years experience and this one has me stumped...
With the July cummulative update to Windows 10 15063, the Qualcomm Atheros Bluetooth driver has completely failed.  It will not load and reports it is corrupted or unusable.  Here's what I have tried...
1. Remove and reinstall driver - Fail
2. Ensure latest driver from Dell, remove and reinstall - Fail
3. Download latest driver package from Killernetworking.com - Fail
4. Roll back CU (KB4025342) - Success
5. Reinstall CU (KB4025342) - Installs, but kills the bluetooth driver again
6. Contact Dell Support - Fail - Technician said it's a Microsoft problem and I would have to contact them for support. (Ironically: I just bought this laptop two months ago and purchased a 4year premium support contract!).
7. Roll back CU (KB4025342) permanently - Not possible, as it is managed by our Windows Update Server on corporate domain and would effect everyone.  I could do this, but it would be a last resort, and it's unknown what vulnerability I would expose the rest of our W10 clients to.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?  If so, what did you do?

Dell:  Can you please investigate and resolve?  All bluetooth functionality is broken so long as this CU is in place.

Thank you!

Here is the list of the problems in order of which I noticed things going awry:

1. My Firefox browser will re-direct my google searches to a new Firefox window pop-up with "google-analytics" in its address bar, but would never finish loading the new popped-up window. Firefox would also re-direct and never finish loading my google searches by opening a new tab with a "directdlr.com/....." in its address bar.

2. Microsoft Office 2010 applications don't open, instead a "DW20.exe" and a "DWWin.exe" replicates itself an infinite number of times in my processes, maxing out my CPU.

3. My anti-virus applications (Spyware Doctor, Microsoft Security Essentials, avast!, malwarebytes) won't update, and therefore won't run or scan. Firefox also won't load various anti-virus sites, such as this message board.

4. Other applications crash directly upon opening them (VLC Media Player)

Solutions that I've tried:

1. Resetting my router. I'd read somewhere online that doing this would solve the problem. It did not.

2. Trying to restore from a restore point. I opened System Restore, but the restore points were all very recent and within the timeframe of infection.

3. Un-installing Microsoft Office 2010 and re-installing. System won't let me un-install.

Here are my scan reports:

Not long ago (a week and a half or so) I was playing Payday 2 and my computer froze, I turned off my computer to restart it and could not load my computer past a pre-loading windows black screen where the mouse was not showing. I then tried booting my computer in various ways (safe, with and without networking etc) and they worked, however I believe one of my drivers failing to load was the reason for my "Windows Normal" startup to fail. I eventually decided through, I then looked at using the system restore point function in order to hope for some success. The system restore function when I restored to; a week ago, two weeks ago, did not seem too alleviate my issue much, it did however allow me to load windows but almost immediately after using the machine for 2-5 minutes I would have a frozen screen again. I then eventually decided to just factory reset the machine out of desperation, the factory reset eventually happened successfully and I was able to load windows and login into my new user successfully, as I learnt that I had to reinstall my graphical drivers I then attempted to put in various CD's in in order to install these drivers, eventually when I figured out the order of CD's that I needed to install for my games to load properly, I then resumed my activities on my pc (such as gaming, browsing etc).

Flash forward to the second factory reset, this one happened due to a very similar freezing problem yet again, and again I decided to turn off my computer ... Read more

I can't seem to get Windows 7 SP1 to load a driver for an HP printer that is on my home network. My laptop sees it but won't let me make it the default printer or load a driver so that I can link to it wirelessly. I restored my laptop back to windows 7

I'm working with a Dell Dimension C521 PC. It came with a PCI-Express video card which apparently has failed, yet the motherboard itself has on-board video. The system will boot using this video output (as opposed to the card which produced nothing) but when it finally gets to windows the auto-detect driver routine kicks in and begins to detect the video card, prompting the user to "Continue Anyway" to finish installing unsigned drivers. Unfortunately this event takes place in front of the installation of the USB keyboard and mouse (times like these I wish it had PS/2 ). Anyway, whether I boot up into Safe Mode or normal a prompt comes up about installing drivers for the on-board chipset. I can't interact with it because the driver install routine for the keyboard/mouse becomes interrupted.

Answer:Dell Dimension C521; USB key/mouse driver load interrupted by video card driver load

Bump. I've been thinking... the only way I think this can be fixed is if I boot from a Linux CD or something similar and delete a particular set of drivers for this video card. It can't prompt you to install any drivers if they don't exist, right? But I don't know where to go to delete such files and prevent them from automatically trying to install themselves. Any ideas?

Hi,

I had the exact same problem today with my HP after installing the latest Microsoft Updates. Luckily I found an other version of the ahcix64s file on my hard-drive.

If you can somehow boot into command prompt or use the Windows Recovery Console - rename the current ahcix64s.sys file to something else and copy the other ahcix64s.sys in it's place.

Computer boots perfectly now.

Hello, After a few months of operating well, my T500 started failling to enter stand by when I shut the lid (that is, the screen). On the other hand, using the OS (windows XP) menu dialogs  to enter stand by, that works fine. After a few more months, when I'm already in the habit of entering stand by manually through the dialogs, this started failing too, with error messages saying the modem driver is at fault.- I recently updated the BIOS and screen drivers hoping the stand by situation will improve- No updated are available for the modem driver. The  Lenovo installed vesrion is still the latest one.- I haven't found any relevant logs in the Event Viewer Any suggestions?  Thanks, aharel

I am using Intel i3-530 on Intel DH55TC Motherboard. The motherboard supports RAM with highest frequency of 1333MHz. However, I was told that using a higher speed RAM wouldn't hurt the system. So, today I bought a Corsair Vengeance 4GB 1600MHz RAM. The RAM is detected in BIOS, but OSes fail to boot after that. Even Ubuntu throws Kernel panic error while booting. Could anyone help me with the BIOS settings required to run this memory stick?

Answer:OS fails to load when using new RAM

Hello Mycroft mate as a general rule running a higher frequency RAM stick in a machine that runs that only supports the lower one the frequency will revert to the frequency of the new stick will be maxed to what frequency your machine will support. So I think whoever told you could run a higher frequency RAM stick in the machine should have known better and to get you to check out the supported RAM speed before you went out and got the new RAM.
If possible I would get the supplier to change it for 1333 (there really isn't much to be gained from 1600) and the extra RAM will still make a difference to your machine simply because the system has more to use and therefore less bottle knecking - in other words the CPU can load more faster if it has more empty RAM available.

ie Tip a bucket of water through a 1 inch outlet funnel into another bucket and it fills quite nicely in say 5 minutes - now take a funnel with a 10 inch outlet and the second bucket fills in no time at all - the first bucket is the CPU and the second bucket the RAM the difference being there is more channels for the data to flow through even though it might be the slower speed RAM

You can see from this Intel? Desktop Board DH55TC the board only supports 1333 max - you can install a faster RAM stick but why bother?

So for example the 1600 you have put in should only run at 1333 if the machine specs say max 1333. The other problem could be that the new RAM stick is bad.

To see about RAM this might gi... Read more

i recently purchased a Kindle Fire HD 7" (tablet), and i have 2 PCs running Win 7 Ultimate x64 w/SP1...on the one PC, when i connected the Kindle via USB, Windows recognized the Kindle as a USB mass storage device as it should , installed the drivers, and i was able to access the Kindle via Windows Explorer to transfer media

but on the second PC, when i connected the Kindle via USB, Windows recognized a new device, but the driver install FAILED, and i got an error message stating "MTP" Driver could not be installed...i tried this several times, and always the failed driver install....i even did a fresh install of Win7 x64 on to a brand new HDD, and i got the same error again ...so obviously the Kindle does not show up in Windows Explorer, and i can't transfer anything to/from it

in Device Manager, under "Other Devices", i have "MTP" listed with the yellow triangle...i have tried letting Windows update the driver, but it always comes back with unable to locate a driver

i've contacted Amazon, but they're clueless, and believe it's a Windows issue...i've searched everywhere online, and it seems i shouldn't need any special drivers with Win7, and that Win 7 should install the device automatically as a "mass storage device"...and as i mentioned, on one of my PCs, the install worked fine, it's the second PC that is driving me nuts

what can possibly be the problem?

My formerly cool computer continues to tick me off! I've been having a hardware problem, which I've traced to the video card slot, and am currently troubleshooting. The problem will cause my computer to completely fail to start - BIOS codes and all that. Working on it though, this isn't my question.

An unrelated problem has cropped up, though, perhaps related to problems I posted earlier...

Usually (but not always) after reboot, I'll get an error that msgina.dll failed to load. It suggests copying over a new one. I've done that, and it still fails to load on the first cold boot, but loads on reboot.

Anybody here seen this before, and can offer suggestions?

(on a side note, what do you use - besides an eraser - to clean the contacts on your AGP or PCI boards?)

Answer:msgina.dll fails to load

The file has something to do with Winlogon. Look HERE for some info on this. Also, a search of MSGINA on GOOGLE provided a wealth of info on why you are having your problem.

To clean contacts, I use Ethanol obtainable from a electronics shop, maybe Radio Shack It's the oils from your hands etc etc that can cause contacts to erode.

Hello:

Let me begin by stating that I will donate $100 to Tech Support Guy if someone is able to *successfully* solve my problem.

First, some general info on my computer:
* Dell Latitude D510 Notebook (purcahsed in January of 2006)
* Windows XP Home - SP2
* 2GB RAM
* 80GB 5400RPM HDD
* Pentium M Dothan, 1.86GHZ, 2 MEGB

Second, a little background on the events leading to the problem:
* I'm a heavy Internet user (about 16 hours per day of blogging, social media stuff, web based email, downloading music, files, video, etc.). Typically, I leave my computer continually running for several days at a time. Last week (Jan 08), I rebooted my system after about 3 days of continual use and this is what happened, and is still happening (step by step guide)

1) I turn on my computer and the computer begins to boot normally, from the Dell logo to the Windows XP logo

Hello. I have Red Hat Linux and Windows XP on different partitions on my Dell. I went to login to Windows the other day, and after I selected Windows it gave me a black screen saying windows failed to load. It had options of starting in safe mode, starting from last known configuration or starting normally. Regardless of what you press, the Windows XP screen comes up like its loading, then after a few second it goes to a blue screen saying unmountable_boot_volume. It says to remove any hardware that I recently added, but I haven't added anything. My sister had been using the computer while I was gone, and I don't know what to do now. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi, Everyone,
How are you? I have been running Windows XP, Service Pack 2 on my computer for several years now. Last night, my computer froze for the first time in over half a year, so I restarted it and nothing seemed to be wrong. After about 15 minutes of using it, it froze once again. After restarting it the second time, however, it showed me the screen that says I could choose to restart in the "Last Known Good Configuration," in "Safe Mode, or to "Start Windows Normally."

If I chose the non-Safe Mode options, it would start to load Windows (with the Windows XP screen and the blue bar running under it), and then restart itself when the blue bar runs for the third time. For the Safe Mode options, it would load partway and then restart again.

Can I do something to fix this? Is this a hard drive problem? I tried unplugging everything except for my monitor and hard drive, but the problem was still there. Please help! I am using a library computer to type this and will wait until I can find a resolution, then go home and try it.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

I've got a problem and wonder if someone could help me out...

Windows XP Pro SP2 was working fine until I rebooted and now the desktop won't load. All the programs are accesable from the task manager>new task and I have run a AVG scan with no results. The screen picture loads, but nothing else. No start bar, no office toolbar, no icons, no anything.

I've scanned the forum for an answer and there was one result for desktop failing to load, but this did not seem applicable.

I am getting no error messages.

Answer:Windows xp fails to load

Huh?

Okay first, what is the exact spelling of the file it is failing to load, and what is the exact text of the error message? At what point in the installation process does this happen.

One reason installs fail is because the CD is scratched, dirty, etc... Sometimes making a copy of a damaged disk will work. The copying process "fixes" the bad data before it gets burned to the new disk.

Also, a bad optical drive will mis-read and corrupt data during an install. Changing out the optical drive might fix the problem.

I'm trying to fix a Lenovo 3000 N200 Model 0769 with a pentium dual core processor, a WD 160Gb #WD1600BEVS-08RS hard drive, and 2Gb RAM running Windows XP sp3 Home.  Could not find the restore CD, but have a copy of the OS on CD.A few months ago, the system crashed while I was using the computer and would begin this endless loop of trying to restart windows and then failing.  I suspected a failing HD, so I tried to put the drive into an external enclosure and plug it into my desktop PC.  It was not seeing the drive, so I bought a tested one (same model) from the internet.  Later, I was successful in bringing the OS back up again and immediately began copying files to a backup drive.  Every so often, while copying image and video files, the OS would crash again and I'd restart successfully. I suspected corrupt files or bad HD sectors.  Eventually, it quit loading Windows altogether.  I received the purchased replacement drive, however, when I plugged it into the laptop, it didn't seem to find it and I guessed that it had not been formatted yet.I took it into work where we publish a software database and plugged it into the Windows 7's mother board SATA plug and successfully detected and formatted the new drive.  I also plugged in the "failing" drive, which it detected  and ran a scan on it, automatically detecting and fixing any bad sectors.  It seemed to complete successfully and when I plugged th... Ill try to make a long story short. Bought a Dell Precision 470 that was two years old from my ex boss. I ran the computer the whole time and it never once gave me a single problem. Upon receiving the computer i found that he ran a few registry deleting programs and because i know he doesn't know how to do anything i feared he did something wrong.

I in turn decided to format the computer. I am running a RAID 1 set-up (mirror) on two 250GB drives. I format the raid array first and rebuild the array then install OS which involves obviously formatting the hard drive and then install drivers reboot then what software pleases me.

The software i run is pretty basic, office 2003, illustrator, photoshop, itunes, mozilla, norton and a software and driver for my business which happens to be sign making. Now the only software thats different on there is the signmaking stuff. We use to run a Prog called signlab and now i use something else. apart from that the general use of the computer is about the same as it was the two years previous.

Every 4-6 weeks the computer decides to stop loading. Always after being shut down normal and properly. It will get to the Windows preloader screen where the three boxes just sit there and slide back and forth over and over essentially until i turn the box off. I can't for the life of me figure this out. the hard drive and information is completely in tact, what seems to be missing is the os software. for the longest time i was not able to g... Read more

Hey There, i had a brilliant result last time i came onto here for help so here i am again. :D

Last week my computer was working fine until one day i had to turn my computer off by the mains (Not shut down)

i turned it on then i had the normal boot screen and everything coming up but no windows xp loading screen
i then waited for something to happen but there was no result. it just stayed at a black screen. i then restarted it and when into safe mode and that also failed to load because it stopped loading at a certain file.

i then put in the windows xp disk and tried to re-install windows xp back onto my system but the windows setup failed to load also.

one time i had a message showing that i had some boot file corrupt :S

Can someone help me get around this error and get my windows xp back up and running please.

Answer:Windows Xp Fails To Load.

I have this issue every once and a while as well and can't seem to figure the problem out.
My issue is a little different though, my PC will lock up, and when I restart it'll load Windows, and then just go to a black screen like you described.
If I let it sit for 10-15 minutes it'll BSOD and restart and work fine though.
Have you tried letting it sit?

My copy of Flight Sim loaded OK under Win XP but under Win 7 in same machine doesn't. Other software loads as it should but the Flight Sim DVD just spins, with the read light and the HD light flickering away indefinitely. I have tried manually via two set-up files I can see in Explorer but to no avail. The DVD looks OK physically. Anyone suggest what else I can try.

Answer:Flight Sim X fails to load

Not sure if this is your problem, but it could well be. FSX can only be used on one machine, it checks its self with Microsoft. A new OS may be giving the wrong info. In which case you might need to contact Microsoft by phone. You may find more info at the following forums:- click here click hereI used to use FS9 but found my machine would not cope with FSX, so gave up on it. When I buy another PC then I might try again.FSXs programming was too far ahead of hardware capabilities at the time.

WIN 7 X 64 fails when trying to load MS updates. I see lots of users have the same problem and have tried many of the suggestions that I found on the forum. I have Malwarebytes and MS essentials installed.

Security updates for MS.NET are successful as are Definitions for MSE, the Bing Bar updates and even updates for Office 2010 (even though it is not loaded on my computer) but none of the Security Updates for Win7 x64 based systems will load. Every bootup for weeks it says ? you have 37-40 updates? If I tell it not to update, sometimes, somehow, it does it any way and in the middle of my word processing a box pops up that is counting down to a reboot. If I don?t walk away it just shuts down in the middle of my typing.

If I ignore the ?updates available? it changes my log off box from ?shut down? to ?load updates and shut down?. If I don?t pay close attention and change the default back to ?shut down? each time I get stuck loading all the same updates that didn?t load the day before. Dirty pool.

Of course if I tell it to load updates it will finish and then wants to shut down. During shut down it spends a very long time loading ?definitions?? Then when I reboot it spends even longer trying to load updates. I must walk away. This ties my computer up for a very long time and then always has to run ?start up repair? to get the PC to boot after loading updates. I walk away again. Every once in a while start up repair fails and the only way to use my co... Read more

As an initial step,go into msconfig/Start up and uncheck everything except the Firewall/AV.

If the error stops, then one of those start up programs is the cause.

If that doesn`t work -

I have a very odd problem at the moment. As of recently my desktop fails to load anything except the wallpaper on any user.

Background:
I've recently acquired a Trojan.Vundo.H and have been attempting to get rid of it. I found it with Malwarebytes anti Mal-ware. I've attempted numerous times at deleting the files in both safe mode and regular mode, but the virus still comes back.

I then attempted to locate the files manually. There was a single .dll file and then three registry entries (I would post then but I'm in the middle of a full scan on my computer that is infect so I shall do so when that is finished). In either mode and using cmd all were unable to be deleted. I then ran a virus scan using Avira and it found the .dll file but was unable to delete it. After a system restart I went to check to see if the file was still there and it was. However to my surprise, Avira detected the infected .dll file and was able to remove it. I then rebooted my machine and noticed the .dll was gone but that still left the three registry entries. I began to scan with Malwarebytes anti Mal-ware and it said the .dll was still there, although after manually looking for the file I could not locate it.

So then I began to attempt to delete the three registry entries. I tried going in safe mode, editing the permissions, anything I could find online to do, but nothing worked. I then backed up the registry and set a system restore and then ran ccleaner.

After the restart is whe... Read more

I just recently gave my computer I had to my 15 year old sister. Iv'e had this system for four years and this has never happened to me before. The day after I gave it to her, she told me that it would not load. It gets all the way to the windows XP loading screen with the small green dots moving at the bottom then the dots just stop moving. The hard drive light is still lit up like its doing something but after an hour or so of leaving it on like that it was still frozen. I was able to load it up in safe mode and remove any adware/spyware on it and get a hijack this log. I'm not sure what it is she does on it but in all the time iv'e had the machine its never done this before.

I just came home for christmas and my parents showed me that their computer is failing to boot.

It posts normally, runs the windows splash screen, and then comes up to a black screen with a mouse cursor and hourglass, then 30 seconds later to just a mouse cursor - it can sit for an hour and never loads anything else. In safe mode, any type, it does the same thing but with the version number across the top and 'safe mode' in each corner.

In any mode there is no taskbar and no response from the start button, right clicking or ctrl+alt+del

I have tried, after making a backup of course, replacing explorer.exe and taskman.exe as well as the entire system and system32 folders(except config in system32 which is protected). I have loaded the hard drive in my own computer and it does the same thing. I ran scandisk on it while it was in my windows pc and it didn't tell me anything. The drive is divided into 3 partitions and I only scanned the C drive.

This is my parents computer and I do not have a hardware listing, it is relatively new but not high end, I can look for model numbers on anything that is relevant.

I have slaved the drive into another computer and backed up any data, I am just trying to avoid a full reformat and having to reinstall all the software.

any thoughts?

For the last 2 days I cannot get my Youtube channel to load properly. It seems to stick on something called "s.ytimg.com". Is anyone else having this trouble at the moment?

As 67 people have looked at this but not one has replied, even to tell me that I'm an idiot, I feel rather ignored on what is my first outing on this forum. Perhaps my question is too banal.

Anyway, in the hope of receiving some sort of response here's a more detailed description of the problem:

I use Firefox with Noscript and Ad Block Plus.

I have a 3 mobile broadband connection (which has worked well enough since I got it) and before Friday I had no problems with Youtube.

When I try to load my channel on Youtube everything zips along nicely until it comes to "transferring data from s.ytimg.com". Then it just hangs. And Hangs. I have left it for 40 minutes or so and nothing has moved.

If I selectively disable "ytimg.com" in Noscript everything loads but there is no video to play.

Evidently s.ytimg.com is a perennial nuisance because it is mentioned in many other forums. Solutions suggested include putting extra lines in the hosts file (tried it. No good). Removing lines from the host file (couldn't because the line was not there) and changing DNS server.

Does anyone here have any new wheeze to suggest?

Apologies if this is in the wrong section, I am new here.

In fact, perhaps there should be a section just for s.ytimg.com and its attendant miseries.... Read more

Hello again - this place worked last time so I thought I would try again... here is my problem:I use a computer designed for a visually impaired person. The PC (running XP Professional) automatically loads JAWS For Windows (a program (JFW) which 'reads' what is going on (web pages, Word documents, keystrokes) so she can tell what is happening) which appears to run normally. HOWEVER when OPENBOOK (a Text scanning/'reading' program) is loaded, I get errors regarding SSILEXE.EXE not being able to load, which is a speech synthesizer designed to coordinate bothw JFW and OPENBOOK so they can 'talk' without both talking at once. I followed Freedom Scientific's directions (they are the makers of both these programs) to re-expand the AUTOEXEC.NT, CONFIG.NT and COMMAND.COM files from the Windos master disk to the C:\windows\system32\ directory, but the problem keeps coming back. (The only other error message I remember is something about not being able to "load a 16-bit program" or something like that.)Things I have noticed: a Sheild (looks like a MS Update shield) which says 'Downloading Updates 0%' (but I don't think it's really doing that) that pops up when I start Windows, JAWS runs fine, but trying to open OPEN BOOK takes a LONG time to load (and I get the error message about the speech synthesizer not being able to load) - if I try to load OPENBOOK while Norton Protection Center is checking the system this REALLY bogs down. I am wondering if runnning Nort... Read more

Answer:XP FAILS TO INITIALISE ON 1ST LOAD

Start the computer. The computer begins processing a set of instructions known as the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). What is displayed depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS, while others may not display any indication that this process is happening. As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. NOTE: If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers will generate a "keyboard error" message. Please restart and try again. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select create boot log. Then Start Normally...after the boot fails follow the advice above and choose Safe Mode Have a look at th bootlog.txt file on the C drive the final entries are nomally the fail. I have 1511 installed and hit the issue with a couple of updates not installing so I can't install the Anniversary and follow-on upgrades.
Has anyone used the Media creation tool, downloaded the Win 10 Home/Pro x64 v.1607 to a USB stick, and then performed an in-place upgrade/repair.
Was it successful?
To boot from the usb should I change the bios for usb first, or just load within win 10 , from the usb drive. When should I remove the stick?
Sorry for so many questions --- fairly new at this
Appreciate all help

Answer:Upgrade fails for win 10 1511 --- load from usb ?

Nope, neither update to AU, nor upgrade install from ISO worked for me - did a clean install of AU, installed apps and copied user files from mounted backup.

I did run WU thereafter sucessfully and drivers got installed, but since have only installed updates manually - all sucessfully. (with WU update blocked in firewall)

Hi and thanks in advance.

Some time ago I had issues with google searches being hijacked. I did a system restore and I thought that had fixed the problem. Since then, whenever you click on the internet, sometimes it will load a page othertimes all you get is the magnifying glass in the bottom LH corner. The home page doesn't load and you have to continually click on the internet until the homepage loads.

I have run ipconfig /displaydns and got the below info, which leads me to believe my computer is infected. Have run dnsflush also and soon as its done the below or similar reappear.

Hi Folks, I just received  Win7  64 bit Recovery kit from HP partner Arvato Digital Services, LLC  in the form of a USB stick.  After my would-b bro in law never made his own recovery disk, the HD failed hard. I ordered the recovery media and located this young 750 gig HD in my collection, and loaded Mint 18.1 Mate on it temporarely, until I could get the recovery media.  I am writing this with the box and HD in question. The recovery media doesn't seem to work. I successfully booted to USB, and the win7 recovery progress bar appeared, but stopped at the point where a blue recovery screen appears, but it is blank.  There is one quick flash of the HD's activity l.e.d., and then everything stops.  The only thing I see is the Cancel "X" on the upper right hand corner.  If I click on "X", I get the "continue or cancel system recovery and reboot" panel.  Nothing keeps happening unless I click on "cancel" and we go back to reboot. The HD is an Hitachi from a similar P7 1100 series from around the same year, 2011 or so.  It passed the SMART with flying colors.  I checked the USB stick, having the microsoft logo and ordered directly through HP.  It has all the files seemingly intact, and is a bootable stick.  I am truely stumped!?  The MB is fine, I have all functions using Mint.  y Any suggestions? Thanksholmziep

I have had NTbackup installed on my Windows XP Pro PC for some time and used it successfully. Now, suddenly, when I double-click the application, no window appears. If I look in Task Manager, "ntbackup.exe" appears in the Processes list and a very small blank window with Backup in the blue title bar appears, but nothing else. The only way to get rid of the window is to end the task in Task Manager.I have tried reinstalling ntbackup.exe from the Windows CD, but this has no effect.Any suggestions?

Answer:NTbackup fails to load properly

Look for the NTbackup folder and delete everything that is IN the folder, reboot your system. Reinstall NTbackup software, hopefully this will cure the problem.I think the reinstall is still looking at the old setup in the NTbackup folder and not overwriting with the new install?

Running Vista OS and have made no changes that I am aware of. When I click the AOL icon I get the spinning circle for about 10 seconds and then nothing happens. Doesn't matter which shortcut I try, same result. Have tried reinstalling the AOL software after deleting the old and removing it from the registry, After reinstall, the welcome page loads and I'm able to sign on to AOL but after about 10 seconds the website disappears and I get the message that AOL is trying to reconnect but after clicking OK, it disappears and thats all. If I try to click on the AOL icon again, it doesn't load just like before. Have tried the obvious stuff like restarting the PC to no avail. I just upgraded to Windows Vista 64 over the weekend as a clean install. I ran Windows Update and got everything installed fine. However, shortly after Windows Update failed to open when I clicked the icon. I see a window start to open on the desktop and then disappear. No errors show up. If I go into the Control Panel->Security and click "Turn Automatic Updating On or Off" I receive the following error: Windows cannot find 'shell:::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-BEB064C98683}\10\::{36eef7db-88ad-4e81...\pageSettings'. alright i start my computer, running XP home edition. half the time or slightly more then half the time i get to the windows loading screen and the loading bar freezes and windows does not load no matter how long i give it. If i restart my computer it will freeze again on the loading screen 100% of the time. If i turn off and turn on my computer via the power button on front panel same deal, it will freeze again at the same spot 100% of the time.i have thus far been combating this problem by after the freeze turning off the power via the power button on the front panel, and when the system shuts down killing power to the power supply via the power switch in the back and waiting 10 seconds. turning back on the back power switch and starting normally. I will get a windows failure to load with the normal options and start windows normally works 100% of the time.i have made no hardware additions to my computer, and this issue seems to be progressive. i used to deal with this perhaps once every 5 start ups and now its slightly over half my start ups.

Answer:windows fails to load 1/2 the time

Power supply or motherboard would be my guess. Power supply cheaper/easier to swap out, so I would try that first. If its mobo, can be a pain as often need to replace cpu & ram too (depending on age) - or look for second hand on ebay. And new (different) mobo means reinstall or repair reinstall, normally.

Recently, my PC has been restarting randomly. The odd part is it usually happens when I'm just browsing the internet. Until last night I haven't had any issues when gaming (BF2 and NFS:MW). The one BSOD I saw and the "system has recoverd from a serious error" messages pointed to driver issues so I cleaned the video drivers and re-installed them and thought the problem was fixed.

Only after gaming did the problems occur until last night BF2 froze leaving me with a loud beep/screech from my headphones. I did a hard restart and made it into windows but soon after the machine reset.

Currently I can boot into BIOS, make changes etc, but as soon as the last step in bios completes (verifiying DMI pool data I believe), it fails to continue onto the Windows XP splash screen. The screen goes black but does not power down which really confuses me.

I tried swapping video cards and also removed my Audigy 2 to narrow down a hardware issue and the same thing happens. Now I'm coming to you guys for help.

Answer:Windows fails to load/boot?

nice description but try posting your hardware (power supply included). Also what if anything changed or got plugged into the computer lately?

It could be anything keeping it from booting - corrupt files from the last crash, bad ram, cpu, PSU, etc. Can you boot into SAFE MODE?

Answer:Solved: Windows 7 fails to load

Please provide us with the computer specs including model and make. Go ahead and turn off the computer and unplug it from the wall and remove any hardware or USB devices that you might have added to it and by that I mean USB thumbdrives, printer, etc. Let's have this PC only have the essential parts (mouse/kb/onboard graphics card) attached to it so we can quickly and effectively resolve the issue. Now, with the computer unplugged from the wall, press on the power button and release after 5 seconds. Now plug it in and turn on the computer. What happens now? Please do not try anything else at this point but simply report back to me and I will provide you with the next steps.

Dear fellow people out there in the Internet :

There was recently a post in this forum titled "Windows did not start successfully" which contained this text :
"Every time I try to restart I get this message that Windows did not start properly and I should select from 4 options
- safe mode
- safe mode with networking
- safe mode with command
- last known setting
- start normally

I tried all the options but nothing seems to work. It just goes back to this same screen again. Please help. I have tons of very valuable information on my computer."

I am having this same problem and tried all of the steps recommended, including trying to run the repair console from the XP disk. I gave the computer to a friend who is a professional IT guy, and he said he is having no luck pulling my files off of the computer using either the "hook it to another computer" method, or with his company's data extraction software. He says he thinks the hard drive itself is damaged and about to die and I should find a professional data extraction service.

My question is: How do you find such a service? I am kind of leery of just searching on the Internet for this. Also, is there anything else to try? I have a 3 year old Gateway that lost it's warranty exactly 2 weeks before it died.

If I have to replace the computer, I don't even care at this point, as long as I can recover my years of writings and research (which were not FULLY backed up)

Youtube does not require Java.
It requires the "Flash Player" from Adobe, and also requires that "javascript" be enabled in your web-browser. Javascript has nothing to do with Java, despite the similar-sounding name.

Alright I have read so many threads and posts trying to figure this one out.
I have AoK and it runs fine.
I have AoC and I can rarely get it to load. The only time it loads is if sometimes I load AoK first then immediately load AoC.
I have played around with every possibility on the compatibility mode and resolution and I still get the same result. AoK does not need to use the compatibility mode at all.

When I go to load AoC I receive,
"Age of Empires II Expansion has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

It does not notify me. It works on my laptop which has windows 8.1
I have reinstalled both AoK and AoC many times clean.
I have tried both minimal and maximum on installing the game.

Please Help!

Thank you,

BJ

This description is fairly long. I went into as much detail as possible because this problem just came out of nowhere.

So I get on the computer one day and everything is cool. I rearrange some music, uninstall some software that I never use and surf the web. While I was adding several hundred music files to my iTunes I ran into an error that said I didn’t have access to write to the C drive. iTunes stopped importing the music halfway through at this point. I selected all my music again and tried once more, this time it worked fine. This happened a few times before I was able to get all my music in. I’m thinking that this may have something to do with my boot problems since I had never experienced this error ever before. It’s probably the only peculiar thing that happened prior to my problem so I mentioned it.

Lastly I run disc clean up and Spybot: Search & Destroy. I updated my AVG AntiVirus and avast! and restart after it asks me to. I am then confronted with this crap.

Irregardless of the way I turn the computer off, it boots back up with the screen that informs me that Windows did not load properly. And naturally it gives me 30 some odd seconds to decide if I want to start the computer normally or in a variety of safe modes. Choosing to start the computer normally or letting the time run out results in the screen flickering for a brief second... Read more

I have Vista Premium installed as the upgrade from Hp since I bought this computer right before the Vista release. It is a Hp Pavilion a1637c, 3GB memory, 500 GB WD Hard Drive, AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 4200. I was having problems when burning ANYTHING to DVD's or CD's. The DVD/CD RW stops responding, locking up the computer. Only thing to do is push the power button to restart. Now when I try to restart, it appears to be fully loaded but won't open any folders or the internet. The circle just keeps going around and all I can do is hit the button again to restart. To get it to fully load, I have to go into Safe Mode and do a System Restore. What can be causing this?

Today I had a system restore done on my PC, all my data was saved and it's all in the original hard drive, apart from the files in the windows.old folder that I've moved to my new hard drive.

Anyway, I need to install all my programs again, so I tried using the iTunes application I from my program files, it didn't work. I got the message:

Quote:

iTunes setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application

I then downloaded a new exe from the iTunes site, I made sure it was the correct version for Vista, and I got the same message.

A final suggestion online was to use the command prompt:

Quote:

regsvr32 / i SHELL32.DLL

The only thing this changed was to give me a different error message telling me I didn't have enough physical space, which can't be true because I just had a new hard drive installed today.

Any help in getting iTunes working would be very appreciated!

A couple of days ago, my genius spouse left his laptop once again in a precarious situation sitting on a table near an open window during a rain storm.

Regardless, since this time, not shockingly windows wont load properly and im hoping that someone can offer some advice as I cant afford to pay for a professsional to take a look at it at this time.

When he tries to turn it on as usual, it attempts to load but it freezes on the screen with the green bars about halfway across and never goes anywhere, he did manage to catch a glimpse of an error a couple of times that said:

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix this problem insert your windows disk and run repair "etc.

I havent seen it yet so I can t give the exact wording of the end of the statement but it basically says put your disc in and let windows fix itself.

Tried that, it only took about 60 seconds to repair windows supposedly, but it still wont load properly.

I have tried to look this problem up on various forums but there seems to be one major issue that people are encountering that I am not, every account that I have read, noone can get their system to load at all in any mode, I CAN load the system in safe mode and everything works perfectly well, it just wont run in normal mode. This gives me a little bit of hope, if perhaps false lol.

i'm screwed if I don't fix this by monday.

windows starts up fine and everything is dandy, until I login. Right around the loading user settings part of the login, i get a nice little popup window that says: "The Instruction at '0x7c80ac9b' referenced memory at '0x80040119'. The memory could not be 'read'. Ok to terminate. Cancel to debug" So i hit cancel to debug and nothing is fixed. I can still use cnt-alt-delete to see all my other programs running. All except the most important one. I can see my desktop picture, but that is it. and my mouse.

worst is, this isn't my computer and if it's messup up on monday i'm screwed! help!

btw: safe mode does not help.. the same thing happens. If this helps, I just installed service pack 2 right before I rebooted and found out this is happening. so that might have something to do with it.. How do I access my restore points? and if that doesn't work, what other options could i try? is there a way to fix windows by booting something on a cd?

Answer:HELP! explorer.exe fails to load after I login

Try when you push ctrl alt delete, click file, new task, type cmd and click enter. In the command prompt box type sfc /scannow and let it do its thing, then restart.

Also, before you get to the xp loading screen at startup, press f8 repeatedly and select restore to last known good configuration.

You can also use your xp disk to repair windows. I have never done it before so im not sure how to get to it though...

One web page has a split pane. The right side loads fine but the left side only shows the little file icon. None of my other pages have this problem and I the page works fine from other computers. I use MS Explorer 5.0.
I tried various things in the Advanced Internet Options utility. Any ideas?

Every so often, maybe weeks apart, when I start up my B machine (PC with XP), it doesn't load and execute Windoze Explorer. Re-booting (manually) doesn't fix it.

So, I use Alt, Ctrl, Delete to bring up the Task List and I click on the Applications Tab, key in Explorer and click Run.

Explorer comes up, I have my usual desk top and everything seems to run OK.

I do a normal Turn Off every night and the next morning, odds are that Windoze (along with Explorer) will load and execute.

Then seemingly out of the blue, one day it doesn't load and execute Explorer and I have to manually (via the Task List) get it to execute Explorer so I can use the machine.

Two questions.

1. Why does it do that?
2. Is there any change I can make to prevent it in the future?

Thanks,

Answer:Explorer Fails To Load On Start-Up (Sometimes)

Kelly's Korner says this

Control/Alt/Delete - When the Windows Task Manager dialog box appears, select the File menu and then New Task (Run). When the Create New Task dialog box appears, type in Explorer and press the OK button. Windows Explorer should restart complete with the Start button.Click to expand...

It's similar to what you are doing but maybe it will correct the problem for good.

My problem is that my computer no longer is able see Windows 8.1 on bootup. I get a ?Loading OS?.? message and nothing happens.

Before this happened, I reset my computer from Windows with the intent to change a BIOS setting for the CPU fan and an Windows update was applied on reboot. Windows (apparently) installed the update and then I got to the login screen. At this point, instead of logging into Windows, I hit the reset button to make the BIOS change. After doing this, when I tried to boot again, Windows would even begin to load and I got the ?Loading OS? message immediately. Is it possible that Windows did not finish installing the update even though I was at the login screen for Windows 8.1?

I then booted from the USB flash drive with Windows 8 install files (not 8.1?I upgraded from 8 to 8.1). I went into the repair option and then I got the message that no repairs could be found or were needed. (Interestingly now when I try the repair option, the computer automatically reboots so the repair option appears to be very broken now.)

Next, I tried to see if my disks were working and they seem to be. Attached is a screenshot when I list the volumes. C: drive is a HDD data drive without Windows. D: drive appears to be some sort of system restore partition (as far as I understand). F: drive is the SSD with Windows installed on it. I can navigate through all directories fine on the SSD and the drive seems healthy. (E: drive is the USB drive.) When I unhook the data drive, all... Read more

Answer:Windows 8.1 Fails to Load after udpate

Okay, this appears to be a tough one--Nobody has responded yet and basic level of MS support was not helpful.

Quick questions: Does the volume drive arrangement in the picture above seem reasonable? (1) Does the Windows drive need to be volume 0 and/or drive C? The SSD (111 gigabytes) is drive C normally when Windows loads up. Would reassigning the drive to C fix the problem possibly? Can I reassign the volume? This is probably not the solution though as I would not understand why the drives would have been incorrectly reassigned in the first place.

(2) What do I need to do to get sfc to run?
