I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: URGENT!!!!!!!!!!Windows Recovery Wizard Process Started by Accident

Try to boot in the normal fashion. If you cannot try this
If you create a recovery DVD, you may be able to boot to recovery options
Create Recovery DVD

The Vista recovery disk is used to boot Vista when it won't boot - to run Startup Repair, System Restore, access a Command Line, Recover using a Vista Backup Image, etc.
System Recovery Options. Choose an option tht will not cause you to lose your stuff.

If Vista will not start now, boot the Recovery CD to run Startup Repair which automates System Restore as well as numerous other tests including System File Checker which can repair system files which are not corrupted beyond repair.

If Vista still will not start, try booting into Safe Mode to run sfc /scannow to repair System files.
Special Thanks Given to Seven Forums.

Below is a bulletin distributed by MS to explain the start up procedure when Windows will not boot.
Startup Repair. Startup Repair is a Windows recovery tool that can fix certain problems, such as missing or damaged system files, that might prevent Windows from starting. Startup Repair is located on the System Recovery Options menu, which is on the Windows Vista installation disc. If your computer has preinstalled recovery options, it might also be stored on your computer's hard disk. For more information, see Startup Repair: frequently asked questions and What are the system recovery options in Windows Vista? If your computer does not include Startup Repair, your computer manufacturer might have customized or replaced the tool. Check the information that came with your computer or go to the manufacturer's website.Change restart settings in safe mode. If your computer is stuck in a loop where Windows fails, attempts to restart, and then fails again repeatedly, restart your computer in safe mode and select the Disable automatic restart on system failure checkbox. For more information, see Advanced startup options (including safe mode).Reinstall. If no other options have solved the problem, and you are sure that your computer's hardware is functioning normally, you might need to reinstall Windows. A custom (clean) installation of Windows will permanently delete all of the files on your computer and reinstall Windows, so only use this option if all other recovery options have been unsuccessful. After the installation, you will need to reinstall your programs and restore your files from backup copies. For more information, see Installing and reinstalling Windows**.You may just want to try and save your stuff and then continue with the restore, if it is not too late.

I have several computers in use at home.  My office workstation has Windows 7 Pro and is used everyday.  I encrypted three flash drives of different makes and capacities using one of my Windows 8.1 computers intending to be
able to use them on all my computers.  These drives will unlock successfully in all my computers (Windows 7 Pro, Ultimate, 8.1 Pro & 10 Pro) except my office workstation.  The error states "BitLocker Unlock Wizard has stopped working"
and upon closing this dialog box, the unlock wizard box closes.

Each time the unlock fails, an event is recorded in Event Viewer.  Two alternating errors are recorded (one each time the unlock fails).  They are copied below.

Hi, I have found this,Have a look at this web site by Doug Knoxclick hereand download the LNK (Shortcut) File Association Fix (Restores Default Shortcut Behavior)Unzip the file and double click on it. When prompted do you want to merge... select yes, Ad-watch will then notice the change and prompt you as well. Make sure you except the change in Ad-watch as well. If this fails download the EXE File Association Fix (Restore default association for EXE files) fix from the above web site and follow the instructions at the top of the web page to start regedit from Task Manager. Once Regedit starts select file then select import and browse to import the LNK and EXE fixes you have downloaded. You will need to unzip them first.Any help, mfletch

Or at least retrieve some files I had on before? Unfortunately I never turned my system restore on because I didn't exactly know how to so I can't configure my laptop back to a specific date...

Is there anything I can do? If I took my laptop to a technician would he/she be able to undo the recovery?

Quite suddenly, probably after a failed attempt to install Kaspersky, I cannot access weblinks from Outlook messages, and get the message "The Internet Connection Wizard cannot be started using 'ICWCONN2.EXE'. To start the wizard choose the connection wizard from the start menu". Didn't manage anything with that wizard (not really available in XP I think).
Any idea, anybody? I have an XP Pro operating and Microsoft Office Premium 2000 that used to work nicely together.

First, I can't believe that you guys thoroughly assist so many users daily. Thanks for doing such a wonderful job.

Second, I'm not sure whether I should post this in this forum or in > Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs. What's the difference between the two forums??

Here's my problem...

I run Windows XP Service Pack 3 on a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop. My problems started with AVG's detection of a process called DWM.exe two days ago. It quarantined it along with some registry values and files. 15 minutes later I got the "Windows XP Recovery" virus with fake alerts and everything, all files on the system hidden, Task Manager disabled, and other symptoms. It seems to be a new virus as I only found mentions of it on the web in the past few days. I ran an Anti Rootkit scan. 0 infections found. I went into Safe Mode. I ran an AVG command line full system scan. It found 1 infection (Trojan Horse Downloader.Agent2.AHOT) I ran Ad Aware Free full scan simultaneously. It found 2 infections but I can't remember or find out what they were now. Anyway the Windows XP Recovery symptoms were still there. I followed instructions on bleepingcomputers about removal of the virus (http://www.bleepingc...ows-xp-recovery). Followed all steps. Step 8 said to run a scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. It found about 11 infections, removed them and the virus' alerts went away. I followed Step 18 to use Unhide.exe which unhid my files... Read more

I have no new hardware device plugged into any USB port.  I did recently add a Belkin enhanced wireless router to create a wireless network to allow my daughter's laptop internet access down the hall.  I also recently borrowed a hand held digital recorder from a friend. I had to download a program to allow me to transfer a file from the recorder to my computer.  I then uninstalled the program - it was a one time usage.  My son got an iPod shuffle which I recently put some music on.  So there have been various new things plugged into the computer, however, every time I start the computer up, it I get the Newfound Hardware Wizard pop-up.  Is there a way to get rid of this?

Hi EveryoneApologies for my lack of correct terms first up, I'm no computer expert!A week or so ago I got the some windows recovery pop up on my screen telling me that the hard drive was corrupt and everything had been lost. We just had a black screen and it appeared that all was gone. I noticed the Microsoft logo and the program itself didn't look quite right so we clicked on nothing, found this website and went through some steps to regain control using Rkill, Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and unhide. It all seems 'ok' now, but I have attached some logs as I keep getting warnings about Trojans being found on my system (from Norman Antivirus). Sometimes my internet explorer also gets redirected to random pages sometimes especially clicking on something from a google search. I even ran all the scans in safe mode at one point as it was suggested in another post on here. When I run Rkill the black box comes up and says the path cannot be found, so not sure if thats the problem, everything else runs fine and has been update to the latest version. Thanks for any help, I think I'm almost there, just can't seem to get through the last bit. Hi all,

I wanted to test Macrium Reflect by creating a new partition on my hard drive with mini tool partition wizard and try to do a image and restore. I was trying to resize my c drive so I could make another drive and mini tool stated that the disk was in use and asked if I wanted to restart and have mini tool resize the drive. I said yes. When the computer restarted it it went to the partition tool before windows even started and it looked like it was doing the job and then went to a black screen that states

1 of 1 operations...

Resize partition
Partition letter c
Partition label os
Disk index 1
Partition index 3
New partition starting lba: 22900736
New partition size: 693105 mb

I tried hitting several keys on the keyboard and nothing works

This has been going on for about 20 min now, is something wrong? I am getting nervous and don't know if I should force a shut down by Turing the computer off and try a reboot. Please help

Answer:Urgent help needed - minitool wizard

You need to use free Partition Wizard bootable CD in order for it to be failsafe like Disk Management.

If you had data protection mode box checked when you force shut down it will not interrupt the actual resizing, as it does everything virtually first and then actually completes the operations. I have bailed out of home version stalls before with no data loss. But you should have your files backed up anyway as repartitioning, repair or reinstall without being backed up is reckless.

Because of the above, I can not access the registry backup nor the Windows restore point.
Your help is appreciated.

Hello Churin,

Does the registry cleaning program have a undo option to be able restore the changes that it made?

If not, than you might see if you may be abe to do a system restore at boot using a restore point dated before running the program.

However, i was not impressed by the performance of windows8 and have decided to restore it factory version i.e. windows 7. I have taken the back up of my OS by following the instructions mentioned on the lenovo site.  Is there a possibility to verify/validate the workability of backup OS?. So recently i decided to give linux a try and heard that Ubuntu was a great starting point, with me being very uneducated in this field, i went ahead and installed ubuntu 12.04 LTS with the Wubi installer on a separate external HDD. Well within the last couple of days i have had no luck to get ubuntu working correctly at the start up! It will always provides me with an error statement when i try to load it up stating "missing or corrupted file: \ubuntu\winboot\wubildr.mbr" although i checked the directory and the file was in the correct folder and i have tried to replace the file! I have tried to re-install ubuntu (with wubi) many times but this does not seem to work. Anyways, with my frustration towards the installation of ubuntu i went to youtube to look for solutions and found this video: i went into the command prompt and entered "bcdedit" then "bcdedit /delete {current}" (current was my identifier code). I thought this would solve the problem but it made it worst, now i no longer see the Windows 7 boot option! so i believe when i entered those commands to delete the current identifier that deleted the windows 7 boot option! I dont think that i damaged the OS but rather deleted the boot menu option for windows 7. Since then i have no idea how to get it back. please help i am very lost and any help is very appreciated! Answer:Urgent Help with Windows 7 boot selection recovery!

I would have asked a lot earlier than now. Everything you've done may have compounded the problem. However as long as Win7 remains on the disk the files can be rescued using Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console.

But to try to repair it you must first confirm the Win7 or it's 100mb System Reserved partition (preferred if you have it) is the Partition Marked Active or it will never repair. Once you set the Active flag, run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times.

Be sure to keep all other drives unplugged during the repairs.

OK so I've been having this problem where every application that has some sort of link in it and that launches another program from it, crashes (examples: clicking a link in somebody's status in Xfire or AIM, GameCam crashing when any game is launched with it, etc.). This has been happening for about a month now, and is really starting to frustrate me. The only thing that has been done to this computer for a long time was a few file re-installations that I did to fix a problem with my monitor (ask for more details if this may be a part of the problem).

Anyways, any help would be much appreciated... the Xfire stuff isn't too bad because I can just copy/paste URLs, but I really need GameCam to work and it's not. But yeah, again, clicking any sort of link in a program that launches another program causes both applications to get exception data and crash.

A BIOS missing or corrupted file error aborted this month's Windows 10 Update cycle on my laptop. As a result I found it necessary to run the factory image recovery process. This did cure the BIOS file problem, however, it also restored the factory installed 8.1 version of Windows. I need to re upgrade to Windows 10 in order to restore my personal files from my external hard drive using Comodo Backup. Is it possible to do this without buying the full version of Windows? I posed a similar question on the Microsoft Forums, and a response reccomended contacting you for a recovery disk. Are such disks available, and what do they cost? In connection with this, I have a question concerning Windows ISO files. I see where they can be burned to a CD or DVD, or saved to a USB flash drive. Hi,Have you upgraded Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 previously and successfully activated it?1.If yes, you can do clean installation and free activation now. Windows 10 UEFI bootable USB can be made using Microsoft windows media creation tool. can ONLY create BOOTABLE DVD/USB using Microsoft windows media creation tool. No point in saving or burning of ISO file into these media. You can follow above tutorial to make BOOTABLE media. You cannot use external hard drive for this purpose.2.If no, you've pay and buy retail activation licence and installation media of Windows 10 from Microsoft and do the clean install.RegardsVisruth

I am trying to do system recovery with the disk I made when I bought the computer and I didnt notice it was doing a system restore until it asked for a second disk, which I don't have. I need to stop it so I can restart in recovery instead.

Answer:How do you abort in-process windows xp system recovery

Depends on what brand computer you have. Some Recovery discs will format the entire drive and install the recovery partition and the windows partition, and some just format the windows partition and restore that. It wouldn't hurt to stop and try to boot the computer to the recovery partition, I would tell you how, but you didn't leave your make and model of your computer.

After turning on my pc today i got hit with another one of these malware viruses called "Windows Recovery".
After searching online for possible removals basically told me to use malware bytes to search for malware to remove problem.
So i downloaded malwarebytes which brought up some problems which i then deleted. Windows recovery does not function anymore however is still present on my system, it is still in my all programs section and still a shortcut on my desktop however, neither lead anywhere as it cannot find the files.
I would just delete them to recycle bin however most of my desktop items have still vanished and on Start>All Programs most of my Programs have disapeared, is their anyone that can help me restore my programs so that they appear again and get rid of the rest of this virus that malware bytes no longer picks up

Kind regards

When I first installed Windows 7 I used Process Explorer to pick through all of my services, learning what they were, clicking on search and reading the Google results. I got to the point where I could just look them over every day or so and make sure nothing unwanted was running. Lately I tried searching and it opens Wikipedia instead of Google. I looked at options and everywhere else I could think of and I don't see where to change this option.
Can anyone help me out?

Answer:Process explorer started searching with Wiki instead of Google

May I suggest that you look into WinPatrol, I think it better suited for your purposes. You will be notified of any new startup item. It is used and appreciated by many

Hi eveyone!

I.know some of you may say that there are other posts that have solved this
But my case is particularly different..

My windows froze and crashed this morning.I have a sony vaio eb series laptop core i34gb ram
320hdd... Ive done a number of things:

Tried system restore.didnt work

Tried startup repair...didnt work either.

Tried system recovery but halfway through the formatting it got an error and stopped working.

But it did format my hdd and now i have no windows. And now when i press the f10 key
Which is supposed to take me to vaio recovery, The vaio recovery doesnt load but instead the windows recovery loads files, goes to the windows 7 bootscreen stays there for a while, and finally when i lt moves on it stops at a BLACK SCREEN WITH A CURSOR. Thats it. I have no windows anymore.. F8 wont work anymore. I tried installing through a bootable usb but the same thing happens with that too.. Tried installing xp but it crashes while setup loads.

So now i have no windows
A formatted hdd
F8 key doesnt work
F10 loads windows files boots windows and gets stuck at a black screen with a cursor...

My T40 Thinkpad had a corrupt drive so I secured the recovery disks from IBM to rebuild the hard disk.  The recovery process seemed to work well, but when completed and prompted to remove all disks and reboot, the system booted and failed before Windows XP loaded with an error message that the windows\system file was corrupt or missing.  Any recommendations on how to succesfully recover?  Thanks.

I'm having horrible problems getting a working windows machine running. I had about 180gb of extremely important files on a seperate partion of a 298gb atapi hard drive, and I tried reinstalling windows on a smaller partition of the same drive. at the partition selection screen, the only option it gave me was to repartition the (already ntfs) partition as ntfs, so I did that, and it rebooted and when it (almost) came back up, I found out that it had wiped out every partition on the entire drive, so that it was just 298gb of unallocated space.
The only free partition revocery software I could find and use other than testdisk for linux is a program that has to be run from windows,
I tried using testdisk on the PartedMagic CD I use to recover the lost partition, and it saw everything but my important 180gb partition, so it was useless to me. Since then, I've tried installing windows on at least a handful of physical hard drives, and on every one of them, the windows xp installation starts fine, and gets up to the first time where it's supposed to reboot, and when it does reboot, it says:

Disk error
press any key to restart

I know it's not a problem with a single hard drive or (probably not) a hard drive controller, since as I said before, I've used a handful of physical hard drives, all with the same effect. Also, I can install a working installation of Ubuntu Linux 7.04 on them, and it boots from the hard drive just fine, which seems odd to me.

A few hours ago, my computer started running extremely slow. Every few seconds the computer freezes (i can still move the mouse around but not do anything else). So, ctrl-alt-del, i see the winlogon.exe is using 99-100% of the cpu. Apart from that, it is using about 3-4mb of memory whereas just after i reboot it uses about 700kb. Also, though i'm not sure about this, the process priority is set to High as well as the csrss.exe process.

This afternoon I was playing Battlefront 2. Everything was fine, but then it stated to jerk badly. So i quit to windows, and as i clicked on the button, the pc reset itself with a brief blue screen of death before going to black. I discovered all of the above after the reset.
I'm still, at this moment, trying to use my pc. It is proving to be virtually impossible.

I am desperate, i've been forum hopping (with difficulty), and everybody either talks a lot of junk/implies a virus/trojan etc...

I have AntivirXP Personal Edition, Xoftspy, Spybot S&D all updated with the current definition files. I ran all three and they came back with no results.

I suspect a virus, because i have no idea what else it can be, and i have no clue what sparked it off. I have measured a great deal of self-control not including expletives in this post, I will be greatly appreciative if someone could help me fix this.

1. Problem
So this thing happened after I was chilling on my laptop on battery. Windows didn't warn me that I was low on battery, so it went to sleep for a few seconds, then booted up without me touching anything (thought I had time plug it in quickly) and then boom - it shut down. Laptop plugged in, I was ready to boot the laptop up. I was ready that it'd tell me that "last shutdown wasn't done properly, blablabla" - I was familiar with this, so I had two options:
- "Launch Startup Repair (recommended)"
- "Start Windows normally"
First I tried to "start normally" - as you may think already, it didn't "start normally", it booted to the ASUS' recovery wizard (to make things clear, Startup Repair also boots to ASUS' recovery wizard), which looks like this. So these three options from the last picture:
Recover Windows to first partition only
This option deletes only the first partition and allows you to keep other partitions, and to create a new system partition as drive "C".

Recover Windows to entire HD
This option deletes all partitions from your hard disk drive and creates a new system partition as drive "C".

Recover Windows to entire HD with two partitions
This option deletes all partitions from your hard drive and creates two new partitions "C" (60%) and "D" (40%).

My thought is to keep the files and get Windows bootable again, so none of these options are for... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 doesn't boot, only able to boot to ASUS recovery wizard

Don't have an Asus but there should be an option to recover to factory condition.. If not the 6 recovery disks you made will do that. They are a copy of the recovery partition only. Use the Linux disk to save everything on the drive you want to keep to another drive. Boot to disk 1 and follow the instructions.
Hirens and UBCD can both be used to repair the MBR which You should try first.

I have a customer's NB200 on the bench. It came in with complete OS failure and would not boot from either the OS partition or the Recovery Partition.

I have checked the Hard Disk and it is in perfect working order. However it seems that all is not well as I cannot get it to boot from the recovery partition even after holding doen the 0 key.

I tried to instruct it to start from the BOOT.INI file by pointing a 'revoery' option at the partition but it just comes up with an error saying <Windows Path>\system32\HAL file is either missing or corrupt. Does anyone know how I should instruct the partition to start or how I could extract the information from the image files?

Answer:NB200-10G Recovery Partition - Cannot start recovery process

If you check page 48 in user?s manuals you will find exact description how to start recovery installation. The procedure on this NB200 is same or, at least, similar to all notebooks delivered with HDD recovery image. Please check it.

Hi, I love this site and you guys have helped me so much, so first of all, thank you!

Now the bad news.... I got the WIndows Vista Repair virus about a month ago on my Acer PC. At first, it ran all of those warning messages and then it shut down the computer and reloaded as what appeared to be a completely wiped computer. The only icon on the desktop was the Windows Vista Repair. I tried to find programs by searching for a few minutes before trying to shut down (which the virus had also made me incapable of doing), and resorting to popping out the battery to shut it down. I restarted in safe mode with networking and tried to get on this site, but even in safe mode my browser was auto-redirecting me to sales sites. By following instructions for removal on this site, and downloading programs onto a flash drive from a different computer, I was able to get my computer in working order again, although it would still, at times, randomly shut down my internet browser (and the process and amount of time I spent getting it just to that state of operation was ridiculous, much worse than any virus I've EVER had...I can explain what all happened and the steps I took if necessary). A couple of weeks later, I left my computer on while I went to a friend's house for the night, and when I came back in the morning I couldn't get it to unfreeze. I shut it down and for the next two days, every time I tried to turn it on it would just run on a loop, booting up part of the way bu... Read more

Apologies - the Urgent in this is only because I'm unsure whether any action may need to be done before I close down in about 6 hours or so.

Basically my problem began in Picasa 3 where I watched a short vid then decided to change the filename. That done I closed the preview & went back to the main program where I discovered that Picasa had somehow decided I wanted the entire folder of images renamed so it has worked through the 500+ images and renamed each one as Filename001, Filename002, Filename003 and so on which as you can appreciate is now causing somewhat of a major headache for me. It would take me a good few hours I would rarely have to go through and rename each one manually, so my question basically is - is there any method or program that can undo the action as I can't find any means of doing so from within Picasa. All other options I've found in my searches are mainly to achieve pretty much the same i.e. bulk rename as Name1, Name2 etc so are of little help.

Anyone any suggestions what else I could try?

Answer:Urgent help needed - how to revert a bulk image name process?

I assume you don't have a Backup to fall back on. I use these two bulk renaming tools. You can see if they help. This is drop dead simple to use -
This one has a more complicated interface but a couple other options -

I have a sony vaio from 2002 i believe. I got a virus that does not allow me to run most of the functions on my computer. When i start it up about half the time it freezes on the windows startup menu, but when i try to run the vaio recovery wizard it gives me an error that says "cannot locate recovery partition" and tells me to restart. I have tried just restoring to an earlier point but i get all the way to where you start the restore process and the window freezes every time. I have tried hitting F10 in the bootup menu to go to restore options but the window doesn't open. Im fresh out of ideas, and my anti virus wont get rid of the infected files (some of which are in my system 32 so i can't remove them). Any ideas please?

i hope i am doing this correctly per forum rules

so yesterday i decided i wanted the current avg free edition on my computer. i have malwarebytes anti malware already but wanted to switch. i didnt remove malwarebytes first.
in the final stages of the install i suddenly got a warning that my computer would shut down in 60 seconds by the nt authority system because of the dcom process launcher error.

it would then restart over and over. the few times it would actually make it all the way to my computer logging in to windows the same shut down in 60 seconds would come up again and i could never get to system restore in time or anything else.

now it just restarts and restarts and restarts over and over and never gets to logging into windows.
i dont know what to do.
im running windows xp i havent updated in some time because i cant verify it. the computer was a hand me down.
i did download the actual avg from and scrolled past the google ad results and selected the actual download link.
i did get a warning from a red shield that looked like my windows security stating that my firewall was tunred off and i know that is b.s. cuz i fell for that once before. i looked at my actual firewall and saw that it is indeed turned on. i have a feeling that might have something to do with this problem.

ill be waiting to hear from ya

Answer:shut down Initiated by NT Authority System/DCOM Server Process Launcher error. began after i started installing avg

wow. well, you must have your hands full helping out with nasty trojans and other malware etc.

some friends of mine helped me out.

in case anyone has this problem after trying to install avg. this is what i did and it worked. i have windows xp. this may not work if you have other versions of windows so be careful and ask someone who is knowledgable. either here or a friend who is a sys admin or something.
go into safe mode. when you start your computer you press f8 a bunch of times before the windows banner comes up (when you see that it is too late and you need to try again). select safe mode.
when you are in safe mode go to add/remove programs and remove avg.
when you restart it should be ok. it was for me.

thanks anyway. feel free to close this topic moderators cuz i dont think i need assistance in this any more. so far its all good.

So what can a person do when Recovery partition "D" is deleted on Windows Vista? Is that the end? There must be a way to handle it.

Since the PC is still running okay, can I create my own restore files?

Or since they all com e from the factory the same way, can I download one?

I need some really help on this one

Answer:Recovery partition "D" erased by accident. What to do?

I would download and use macrium reflect to save on a separate hard drive. It is the best way, in any case.
Files can be saved separately or as an image of the hard drive, using the above.

Hi all,

here is my GOAL: I want to reinstall the original Windows Vista as it was when we bought that laptop.

My PROBLEM: we never succeeded to create that recovery DVDs (just after the purchase), always gave an error... today and to my surprise, I cannot find any recovery tool from the OS either...

1- At power off/on: I tried the "0" key (as read in internet) but did not do anything special..

2- I tried then from this options menu (after F8 at reboot): REPAIR YOUR COMPUTER
Then (after choosing spanish language and logging as user) I tried to lo launch the WINDOWS COMPLETE RESTORE but it said that no CD/DVD found ....(no current issue with this CD/DVD player = working fine)

3- I tried then the other interesting option : HHD RECOVERY (More or less like this, as I have it in spanish version)...Just a pop-up opened (maybe about the recovery DVDs) but without any buttons to follow the process....

Trickier situation now, isn't it?

4- INFO:
I could find the hidden partition and unhide it. It contains folder and files: a 'source' folder, 'boot.sdi' file if I remember well..and maybe more..
=> I copied them on a USB key and recorded as well on a new DVD (and the image.iso of them as well) and repeat the above points 2 and 3, but nothing changed...(the content of this DVD is read without any problem on another laptop)

- This folder and files (found in hidden partition) means that the recovery is still there?
- Is there a sp... Read more

Then I suppose that I should have a RECOVERY folder somewhere..but I read in some posts that comment type :"the A100 series has not been equipped with the HDD recovery partition"

If not available then, I'm already then on this last-chance-step explained above? this means to order the recovery DVD on [|]

I know on Dells when you hit a certain combination of function keys you reinstall the OS to "like new" condition. Meaning like it was when it was shipped from the factory. If this happened, you have to redo all of your settings. Do you still have all of your documents and pics., etc.?

Hi, I have a toshiba computer and they have had some performance issues.

I've been researching and informing myself how to easily format a Toshiba computer and saw videos in which people used a tool called "Toshiba wizard recovery" that supposedly all Toshiba portables should have.

I did everything to use this tool but nothing worked it seems that this tool does not exist on my computer which is supposedly not correct because it is a computer where this function already existed.

I would like to know if it is possible to reinstall or otherwise obtain it.

Hey everyone. I'm looking for a piece of software to recover files that have been deleted from my hard drive but can also be recovered from a formatted hard drive. Anyone know of such a program? The most I would be willing to spend on the software would be about $60-$80.

Answer:File Recovery wizard

unfortunately there is no sort of archiving system in your hard drive unless you created some sort of backup and only wiped a partition. are you sure that you FORMATTED it? (inserting os disk or thumdrive and formatted hdd) It all depends on what and how you deleted it.

Please can anyone advise. My son (not pc savvy) had a bootup problem, thought he was restoring but in error commenced the Recovery programme for his Compaq Pressario computer. He realised very quickly that it wasn't right and cancelled but has lost all the dll's needed to open up windows XP. I am trying to salvage as much as I can but wonder if there is any way other than a full recovery now. If only he had let me partition his drive earlier he would not risk such a loss of data. Does any reader have any ideas for rectifying. Recovery on hard-drive with no installation discs with pc for repair.

My wife has a Y510 with Vista.  She mistakenly powered on with the One Key Restore button, then pressed enter at the screen that gives the chance to exit or continue with restore, so now it is in the mode to reinstall Windows and restore the hard drive (this is the second time, the first time I just let it restore back to factory OS).  At this point I have been unable to stop the restore process.  I've tried powering down with the power button, which I think is making it hibernate so it just powers back up to the restore process.  I tried booting into safe mode, but it says it can't boot to safe mode and to restart to continue reinstalling Windows.  I've tried taking the battery out and putting it back, no luck.  It wants to begin reinstalling windows.  Is there a way to stop the restore process once it is started in error?  It hasn't done anything yet but boots up to the screen to select a language at the beginning of Windows reinstall.

Answer:One Key Recovery started accidentally

OneKey recovers to a factory preinstalled state. When the end user powers on his computer for the first time, he is shown the Welcom screen. Then he/she must complete the initial configuration [selecting user name/password/wallpaper].  So, it sounds like you are at the Welcom screen. Just follow the dialog and to regain use of your computer.

I updated to windows 10 on my Sony Vaio fit 13a SVF13N25CG (running Windows 8.1 when bought) yesterday. And I updated by following the instructions from sony.
After updated, I wanted to clear all data on my notebook, so I executed windows 10 factory reset (didn't use the factory reset provided by Vaio). So all the pre-installed programs, including Vaio care, are lost. I just want to reset the notebook to the situation when I bought it. However, when I executed Vaio recovery solutions and try to "started recovery wizard" -> "skip rescue", a error 393 appeared (An error occured while executing an application).
What can I do to solve this problem? I just want to reset my notebook to its factory setting (same as when I bought it).
btw, I made a recovery usb using vaio care before I carried out factory reset. But it didn't work under the rescue mode of Vaio (same as the error 393 memtioned above, to "started recovery wizard" -> "skip rescue", a error 393 appeared).
Thank you for help~

Answer:Vaio cannot run Recovery Wizard (Error:393)

You mean you want to restore it to Windows 8.1 with all pre-installed software? If the recovery doesn't work, then your only solution is to clean install Windows 8.1 using the serial on the sticker. Then download all drivers and software from Sony and reinstall them. It will take some time, but it will be as good as new, you could even sell it.

You can borrow a friends copy of Windows 7 and perform a clean installation using your key that ia affixed to the laptop as a clean install. That is your only other way to put Windows 7 back on this computer without using the recovery set that came with the laptop. Corporate installations are generally just that, installations from Windows 7 disc using the activation key that is affixed to the laptop so that you have just a clean laptop with bare OS and none of the bundleware that comes with a new home computer / bundled to recovery set.

I installed updates and restarted my laptop. It would not fully restart. I turned it off and back on. I got to the restore/recovery manager. I accidentally hit recovery so I cancelled on 1% completion. I turned laptop off then back on and got error 0xc000000f, says "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible." I went to restore/recovery manager but it says there are no restore points. Memory and hard drive tests ran with no issues. If I use the windows installation disk (as suggested on the error screen) is it just going to go to recovery mode anyway? What's the best way forward?

Answer:Accidentally started recovery, cancelled

@R0b Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! The first thing a full recovery does is reformat the drive, so even it you cancel it immediately, serious damage has already been done. Restore points are stored in a folder in Windows, and if that drive has been reformatted, they are no longer available. I don't know what "Windows Installation Disk you are referring to" -- but if it's an MS Windows 7 DVD, I would advise AGAINST using that, as your pc was preloaded with an HP OEM version of Win7, and the MS disk will only contain a Retail version. At this point, your best course of action is to use HP Recovery Media. HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded. You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update". If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Hi Everyone - when I turned on my laptop for the first time, it asked me to set up the Recovery Wizard, but since I didnt really know what options to choose, I cancelled the task. I am yet to find where on my laptop the Recovery Wizard is, to set it up again - can someone pleae direct me where to look?

Many thanks [and remember, novice here, so layman instructions thanks :) ]

Answer:Satellite L750 - Where do I find the recovery wizard?

Hi buddy,

You can start the HDD recovery if you press F8 key before Windows starts. Then select ?Repair my computer?. Some Windows files will be loaded and on next window called ?System recovery options? choose the last option ?Toshiba HDD Recovery? and follow the screen instructions. If you need a more detailed explanation with some pics check the official Toshiba document about this procedure:

Last but not least you should create the Toshiba recovery disk with preinstalled recovery media creator. In case it would go something wrong you can restore the original factory settings everytime and you are on the safely side :)

Hello!I am aware that there are two threads similar to this one, but the solutions from those threads do not satisfy my needs. I run Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on an ASUS A75VM laptop. Whenever I boot up, the 'Starting Windows' screen flashes, then it proceeds into a black screen with a filling grey bar. This eventually leads into some command prompts, and into the ASUS recovery wizard. Sometimes though, it goes into a big fat red ERROR, with the window titled asrecoveryhd. When I go into my BIOS, I find that my HDD is not on my boot list, which worries me. The only two things is the 'Windows Boot Manager' and my CDROM. Here is the download link to all my screenshots, just for reference. From my research, I'm pretty positive that this is some sort of virus, unless I really screwed up my registry. Also, I'm pretty sure that all my hardware is fine as I have never dropped my laptop before. I've also tried using the BitDefender rescue program. I put it into a USB stick, but I'm not really sure how to use it exactly. I don't want to mess things up.Hopefully I can fix this problem without having to do a recover of any sort, as I don't really want to re-install all my programs and that stuff. Thanks!

Answer:Computer Boots Into ASUS Recovery Wizard

Sorry about forgetting to mention this. I cannot access my desktop nor my files at all. It just keeps booting into the recovery wizard.

you could remove and refit the drive to see if it was a loose connection or remove the drive and connect to another machine to extract all your data files
or boot from a live linux DVD and save all your data to usb before attempting a fix.

Apparently there is really no such thing as a sony vaio recovery wizard on XP. It certainly does not exist on my sony vaio, and the F10 "rumor" is also unsubstantiated. I have searched thousands of posts like this. In every case, not one person has been able to answer the question. Where the heck did this mystery "wizard" go and why is it impossible to get it back???Since sony has perpetuated this falsehood, does anyone know a LEGITIMATE way to restore a vaio to factory settings?Control Panel: Performance and Maintenance... OOPS no such thing as a wizardHelp center: How to restore my computer... it lies and says to use the nonexistant wizard in the control panel hahahahahahaHelp center; how to restore my comptuer... lies again and says to hold down the F10 key when the vaio splash screen shows. after trying to clean up my c drive, i decided to just do a fresh install. Supposedly, my computer model has a recovery program installed in its hard drive ( i don't know which one bec. i have 2, c and d drives) so i don't need any recovery disk ( only if i want to create a recovery disk) to continue with the restore. But, the problem is , i can't find the " vaio recovery wizard, it is not showing up under " performance and maintenance" i can't see the icon for it. I want to access this recovery but when I spoke to a sony representative, they said i had to pay 200$$ for their support and essentially evaded my questions. thanks.also: if i do get a change to restore my pc to original settings, will i have to reinstall my wireless, printer, other programs etc?

Answer:cannot find Sony Vaio recovery wizard

First I would recommend spell out all of your problems since system recovery is a drastic measure and should be used when all else fails.Second, make a set of recovery disks, they are very useful if your hard drive completely fails since your recovery partition is on your hard drive (you would then have to buy them from Sony).Third, to access your recovery system, you do this outside of windows. There is a key to tap repeatedly (I believe it is F10 on Sony, if not, recheck your manual or their website) during start up that will direct your system to boot from the recovery module instead of windows. It is here that you would launch a recovery (possibly a repair, but not sure).A recovery will return your hard drive to the same as it was when you purchased it. There will be no windows updates, there will be no programs that you have since installed, there will be no personal files (pics, letters, music, favorites, etc), there will be no hardware drivers (other than what was factory installed) and all of your preferences (desktop settings, home page, email set up, etc) you set will be gone. You will have all of this to do over again. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane. If all else fails, read instructions.

I was recently asked to take a look at someone's computer and try and recover some data. I've done this before from someone's damaged disk, by using a bit of msdos knowledge to run CHKDSK, and ultimately reinstalling windows. The old data was stored in a windows.old folder, so I got it back for them and advised them to replace the drive soonest.

On this occasion, some prat took the disk away, and he tells me he reformatted the disk, and put windows 7 on. The odd thing was, he reckoned that reformatting would not erase the data confused duh, amateur!), but it makes me wonder if he really did.
Anyway, I checked out the popular data recovery utilities here, and GetDataBack and EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard look as though they may do the job.

Do you guys have any preference? And also, is there any way of telling whether the disk was previously formatted FAT or NTFS as GetDataBack has 2 versions?

Thanks as always, for your valuable time guys

Answer:GetDataBack vs EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard

I haven't used either of the programs you're asking about. However, I've used Recuva after a format, and it worked fine (the drive was NTFS) to recover what was not completely overwritten.

I have a friend who was having some problems with their PC after playing some games/installing some user-made plugins and when they restarted, they chose to run a system recovery and then cancelled out "around 6%" and now when they try to boot their computer, they can't get windows to load and are told they need the system recovery disc because the data is either missing or corrupt.

I have not had a chance to look at the computer myself but before I go to help someone with their PC, I like to Google solutions so I'm not working completely from scratch but my Google-Fu has failed me in my searches so I was wondering if anyone could take a moment to point me in the right direction or offer me some resources if there is any salvation for their PC, I would greatly appreciate it.

Answer:Started recovery, cannot finish/find disc- what now?

Well, the easiest thing to do is to put the restore CD in and complete the recovery. Other then that you are looking at wiping the drive and doing a fresh install of XP You can backup the files off of the previous install before you proceed.

I can no longer boot Windows 8.1. I do not currently have an upgrade media. Not sure what steps to take as I originally purchased Windows 8 as an Upgrade. What do I do? Do I try and find a Win8.1 iso and attempt to create a recovery disk from it?

Ive been using Windows 10 on another hard drive connected to this computer. I needed to check out some programs today on Windows 8.1, which I haven't used in a while and it wont boot. Has a blue screen with an error about winload.exe.

Answer:Need to create recovery media. Originally started with Upg

Ive downloaded this file OSGS14-WindowsSetupBox-32bitand64bit-English-4141408 but I cant even get past the Product Key portion. I enter what I know is my Product Key but it wont accept it. Im sure this has something to do with my original version of Win 8 Pro being an Upgrade. Which of course, when this is the case, MS has seemingly made it harder for recovery options should something go wrong.

Ive also tried another method by using an ISO on USB. I don't get any Command Prompt option and an attempt to Repair results in Scanning/fixing errors but that seems to stop after a minute, PC reboots and im back to the Blue screen error.

Hi Taytay,

It seems that recovery installation couldn?t finish successfully?
Have you already tried to start recovery installation from HDD? Go in advanced boot menu of Windows (F8) after you turned on the computer and select ?Repair my computer?.

If it doesn?t work you should bring it back to shop and ask for a replacement.

I receive an error - "error: 08-104B-0000 Partition creation failed". I tried all the solutions provide from FAQ or "How To" page. Like,,

I have a copy of recovery DVDs with me, but i just keep receive the above error.
Please kindly to provide any possible solution.

Thanks a lot.

Looks like something is going wrong with the partitions on the HDD.
I recommend using an MS Windows XP disk or another bootable disk and to format the HDD firstly!
After that you could use the recovery disk again in order to reinstall the OS on this notebook.

Recover deleted files with the new edition of EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Pro
Last year we reviewed the professional edition of EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, a highly intuitive application designed to identify and recover deleted files, regardless of the deletion method applied: emptied Recycle Bin / Shift+Delete combo, quick or normal format, lost partition, lost partition, or damaged boot manager.

It looked quite promising but failed to meet our expectations when it came to tricky deletions, from normal format and upward. Last month the developers launched a new version for EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, which includes a complete redesign toward looks, structure and some features, while ensuring improvements concerning the scan speed and identified files, among other aspects.

In terms of trial limitations, price and installation, version 8 remains the same. There is no expiration date attached to the trial edition, but users can only search for files and preview them. To unlock this restriction, they have to purchase the full package $69.95 / ?59.05.

The installer is fast and simple, since there are no customization settings involved. Worth mentioning is that if users plan on recovering files from the primary drive C, they should install Data Recover Wizard in another location, in order to prevent further file damage.

New interface and features

EaseUS has polished the interface and gave it a completely new look to match Windows 8 systems, thanks to elegant lines and... Read more

I am trying to make a system backup using the automated system recovery wizard. I name the file, specify the location, and press start, but when I press start, I get an error that says the diskette could not be created. It then shows the status window and says the backup failed. I have a floppy in the drive and its recognized. Here is the log:

Backup Status
Operation: Backup
Active backup destination: File
Media name: "Local_Disk.bkf created 5/26/2006 at 7:21 PM"

Backup Status
The files for the recovery diskette could not be created. The operation was aborted.

The operation did not successfully complete.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Error when backing up with the automated system recovery wizard.

May seem a silly question but is the disk write protected?

Are you able to write other data to it without a problem...have you tried a different disk?

Hi Everyone

I recently purchased an L750 and when I first switched it on, up came a window asking me to set up the Toshiba Recovery Wizard re Product Recovery Menu. Now, this is all new to me, so I didnt really know what this was about as there were no instructions either, so I answered a couple of questions then I cancelled out of the task in case my answers were wrong. Can anyone help me re-set this up, answer the questions correctly and also where to find it again to set it up?

The first 3 questions I answered were:

1. Please select one type of Operating System to continue - Windows 7 32-bit version OR Windows 7 64-bit version?

2. Please select a process: recovery of Factory Default Software (recover to out-of-box state) OR erase the hard disk (delete all data and paartitions from your hard drive)?

3. Please select a Recovery Method of Factory Default Software: recovery to out-of-box state (System Recovery Options are included) OR recover without changing the hard drive partitions OR recover to a custom size partition?
Then I cancelled out here.

Many thanks,
SC ("Laptop Novice")

Answer:Satellite L750 - Setting up recovery wizard when first switched on

1. Choose 64bit unless you specifically need to run an old 16bit application that you cannot upgrade/replace.

2. Out of box.

I accidentally deleted I really need this? Also I think my copy of windows xp pro is pirated so how do I delete it and install xp home which I have and is legal?

Answer:removed windows xp pro sp3 by accident

Hi patti1950, first off, you can go to window update, let it scan and download it again.... Yes, you do need SP3, because if you deleted it, you no longer have the patches :cry

As far as your original windows being pirated, I don't think you would have gotten SP3 if it were... Try to download it again.... Are you on a hi-speed connection or a DUN? Hmmm... Maybe someone else would know more about this than me, but I am pretty sure you can just download it again... Once the windows update scan sees you don't have it, it should pick it up for you.... Give that a whirl.....

I've read that the serial key is legal for either version, 32-bit or 64-bit, but the DVD I got only has 32-bit version.

How can I get a new DVD with the 64-bit version, as I got 8 gigs of ram and I can't use them.

Dear All,

I like to re-install the operation system on my Satellite Pro T130 laptop without changing the partitions. This is possible with the Recovery Wizard by

However, when I start my laptop with the Advanced Boot Menu (F8), I find only the HDD Recovery menu in the System Recovery Options, no Recovery Wizard.

I tried to start this wizard by starting the computer with the zero (0) key from the top but it did not work. I shut down the windows, pushed and held 0, turned on my laptop, when Toshiba logo appeared I sill held the zero key and instead of the Recovery Wizard, the Windows started.

I tried it at least 10 times and it is getting frustrating.

I bought this laptop in Hungary in 2010.
I just wondering that Toshiba offers both (HDD Recovery + Recovery Wizard) of the recovery options on their laptops or the older laptops came with only HDD Recovery?

If the starting process with the zero key is not working, what can I do?

In addition, my understanding about the difference between HDD Recovery and Recovery Wizard is the following: (please correct me if I am wrong)

HDD Recovery is re-setting the manufacturer state that means that it deletes every data from every partition. When you turn on the laptop first time, a wizard will come up so you can partition the hard drive. Like the out-of-box+customizing option in the Recovery Wizard.

Recovery Wizard has three options: out-of box (described prev... Read more

According notebook specification this Satellite Pro was offered with preinstalled Win7 version and WXP recovery DVD. Preinstalled Win7 version includes preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator tool so notebook owner can create recovery media (bootable USB stick) that includes original recovery image for Win7. This bootable USB stick can be used for recovery image installation if there is some problem with HDD recovery installation.

As I can see you have some problem with HDD recovery installation so my question is: have you created such recovery media? Do you have it and can you use it for Win7 installation?

I used the Recovery CD after my Equium A100-338 started going very slowly, It still seems slower than it used to be.
I haven't added anything to the comp since the Recovery CD and checked the task manager to see if i could spot anything suspicious.

The stats say, CPU usage 18-22% but the Physical memory was at 68% is this normal or should it be lower?

Is there a list of standard processes that i can check against mine to see if its doing something it shouldnt be?

Answer:Equium A100-338 started going very slowly after usage of Recovery CD

I think you are feeling that the unit is a little bit slower due to the high amount of different processes which are running in the OS background.

The point is that your notebook supports different features like FN buttons, Toshiba control buttons, etc?
All this features needs drivers.

Furthermore as I?m not mistaken the Norton Internet Security was installed on your system.
It?s a part of the Toshiba image and this tool could affect the system performance.

I used it in the past but switched now to another application which doesn?t need many hardware resources.

So if you want you can disable or remove some tools and utilities which are not important for you and could clean the system using a 3rd party tool called ?CCleaner?

I have a Toshiba Equium A100-338 that I need to recovery to factory settings.
I know that I have to hit f8 and go to the Toshiba Recovery Wizard.

My problem is that this option is missing, and has been replaced with 'Restoring the complete Windows operating system'. When I click this option, I get a generic message saying I need to restore from a restore CD.

My question is, is there a way to manually start the recovery from command prompt? The wizard must be running a program. All I need to do is find this program. I know that I have the recovery partition (I used Ubuntu to recover the User's files, and it should up there).

Answer:Equium A100-338 - Missing Toshiba recovery wizard in menu

Just a simple question: If you have problems to start recovery from HDD, why you don?t use the Toshiba recovery disk?

It can also restore factory settings with all drivers and tools, so it?s the same expect it wipes the whole HDD.
