PL2303 (USB/RS232) Driver no longer loads

Question: PL2303 (USB/RS232) Driver no longer loads

After several attempts at trying different driver versions, no drivers seem to load now.

These drivers are for a Prolific PL2303 USB to RS232 converter - although I did not buy the device from that company. The drivers used to install easily and I actually had one that partially worked.

At one point, I went to the Windows/System32 and manually deleted all the files and "packages" for those drivers. This likely screwed everything up and I don't know how to recover. I have the option of doing a full system recovery, but it will take days of work to arrive back at the current configuration.

After several attempts to install and uninstall all these drivers again, nothing seems to work. When I plug in the device, Vista looks for the driver in Windows Update and of course finds none. In Device Manager (DM), the annotation for the Port is Unknown device. When I try to manually install the driver through the DM, it fails. The code is sometimes 1 and other times 19.

System Info says I'm running Vista Home Premiun X86-based PC, but the sticker on the laptop says Athlon 64 X2 dual-core (Acer Aspire 4530).

Any fixes?

Preferred Solution: PL2303 (USB/RS232) Driver no longer loads

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Good morning,

I hope this question isn't redundant, although I did search the forums to no avail.

Good morning,

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I recently purchased the USB-1 cable from Uniden. Prior to connecting the cable I downloaded and installed the driver, again, from the Uniden site, with no trouble. When I connected the cable I was advised that the device driver software was not installed as "...the name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name."

After spending hours trying to figure this out it occurred to me that I had attempted to install an aged Prolific USB-Serial cable at an earlier time. I downloaded the Vista 64 driver direct from Prolific, and, although the software installed trouble free and the subsequent hardware driver was also installed without trouble, the PC would not recognize the device to which the cable was attached (an Icom PCR-1000).

A little bit of research has led me to believe that the Uniden cable is recognized via a Prolific driver, apparently with the same name!!! After attempting to uninstall and reinstall numerous times, I now have 17 comports!!!!

I am hopeful someone on this list has had a similar experience and can help me either completely delete the prior registry entry (preferred) or teach me how to rename the new driver.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to lend.

John.

hi. when i first install the usb-serial cable, the drive works for xp and vista. It works in the first installation

today, i unplug the usb-serial cable for some reason and re-plug in it and it said doesn't recognize the driver.

i check hardware manager and i find it's "unknown device".

i try to reinstall the driver in many different ways, but it just doesn't work for my laptop.

i need it to connect to router console.

the only possible way to fix it for me is to format the computer and do the first installation
but that's NOT a technician should do. the cable comes with driver. i also download different one on the web. but it's basically the same. the driver name is "PL2303 USB-Serial Driver"

i also try it in other PC and it's the same(unknown device).

do you have any suggestion?

if i fix can it, i will NEVER unplug it again. >.<

I have purchased a usb to serial adapter but the drivers are not functional.

Every time I plug the cable inside my computer i get a USB device not recognized message. Under device management > Universal Serial Bus controllers > Unknown Device.

The drivers that i have is called "PL-2303 Driver Installer". Even after installing this driver, I still have no luck. I know it is possible to update the driver but the driver format would have to be in a .INF file. In this case the driver is a .exe file so i have no idea what to do.

Any help would be really greatly appreciated also the drivers are available @ http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=31

If the device is functional and installed, it should be under the COM ports in device manager but like i said before it is not and is listed as "Unknown Device".

Hello Techguy
I have a USB to RS232 converter which came with a driver disk. I can load the driver in and everything seems to load OK. However, when I then plug in the converter, it can not find the driver.

What it seems to be looking for is a driver called "USB2.0-SER!". However, the device seems to be a Prolific chip device and I would have expected to see it looking for something like "PL2303" or similar. I searched the computer for a driver with this name but no luck.

I went to the Prolific website and downloaded their driver but that didn't work any better.

I know these devices work as I have seen them working on other computers. How do I get it going?

I bought a FlashVoyager 16GBGT in September for use with my XP pro machine and all was fine. I have now upgraded to Windows 7 Pro 32-bit and I can no longer use the flash drive. When I plug it into a port the Autoplay window pops up for a few seconds and then disappears, then reappears, then... and so on. If I catch the Autoplay window in time I can get Windows Explorer to come up but it immediately closes.
I have tried it on an XP machine and everything works perfectly. I have reformatted the flash drive to FAT32 on the XP machine but nothing changes on the Windows 7 machine.
I have tried on the machine's ports and a powered hub.
I do not have access to another Windows 7 machine to test.
I also have a FlashVoyager 4GB which works fine have tried another 4GB drive which also works perfectly. Another 4GB generic flash drive has the same problem.
I found an old HDD and did a clean install of Windows 7. There were no problems with the Flash Voyager GT and its driver! The generic drive also worked perfectly.
As I don't really want to do a full clean install of Windows 7 and all software etc, I did a repair install... BUT this hasn't fixed the problem. What seems to be happening is that the driver for the flash drive is installing, uninstalling, installing and so on. I wanted to try to remove the drivers then reinstall them before I go to a full reinstall of the OS but I don't have the knowledge to know how to do this. Can anyone tell me how to go about this. Anyhow, the seller told me it would work with Vista but she did not tell me it wouldn't work with Vista Premium. Hi,

This morning www.gmail.com would no longer load for me on my work computer. It was working fine in the morning and stopped somewhere after 10a. Our work uses gmail so I know it wasn't blocked intentionally. It does not seem to load in IE 8 or Firefox 3.5.3. I also just downloaded Google Chrome and it would not load there either.

The weird part is that my co-workers computer is able to load Gmail. I can also access Google and search in Google, but cannot access Gmail.

I've tried re-setting the router. I've done a clear cache, and also a friend suggested I do this through the command prompt which I did.

I also called RCN (our cable service provider) and they had me do a winsock reset via command prompt but that did not fix the problem. They said they couldn't help me trouble shoot any further.

I have AVS Antivirus 8.5.421 installed and didn't see anything being "blocked" under advanced settings.

Can anyone help me fix this? Many thanks in advance...

Hello!

I am running: Windows 7 64bit
On: Acer Aspire 5750 laptop

For a couple months my computer has been locking up at random intervals for several seconds each time. I got no error messages and each time it came back acting fine, so I just assumed I had too much running. Now, I'm not so sure it wasn't the HD failing, because...

Last week, I noticed the shield on the shutdown button indicating windows needed to run an update. I closed out of everything and pushed the button to shutdown/install updates. The computer immediately crashed almost as if I had held down the power button. When I attempted to restart it, my only 2 options were to start normally or launch repair mode. Normal didn't work, so I launched repair. Repair ran for close to 4 days. In the first 36 hours it asked to be restarted twice, after that it just kept running until finally I gave up and shut it down with the power button.

Like a moron, I do not have a recent backup of my files and really wish they could still be saved.

Since then:Tried to rescue files with Umbutu boot stick- error said it could not mount to drive.
Tried to launch safe mode with command prompt via F8- system went back into repair mode instead.
Tried to launch to last known good configuration via F8- system went back to repair mode, again.
Tried to launch via Windows Boot Disk- the screen it gave me was not the same screen as the screenshots on the forums suggested I should get. My screen was an Acer logo with 3 option... Read more

On one comp, when it turns on, it has a black screen, with a bunch of white font, on the other comp, BAM, go straight to the XP loading screen.

What is causing this?

(the only diff, is that on the comp where it goes through the black and white checking screen, the HDD, cdrom, and mobo are all on one cable)

anyone know what is causing this? and what i can do to speed load times up?

Answer:Two identical computers, one loads longer than the other.

Its how they are set up in the bios.
The fast one probably has the quick boot option turned on.
Has the hard drives and cd drive predetermined as opposed to auto-detect.
Etc, etc.

Its normaly "F2" or "Del" to get into the bios.
Best rule of thumb when altering settings.
If your not sure what it does then only alter one setting at a time.
Makes it easier to correct mistakes.

Up until a few days ago I could go to gapfire.com ( a pay-for service involving thoroughbred racing) and log in successfully on my computer. Then two days ago I'd get a "timed out" message and was able to get to the site on my wife's computer. Now both computers are getting the "timed out" message. Ok, so here is the situation. I had a problem with my user profile (admin account) wouldnt log off. Thus, I couldnt delete the profile even though I created a new admin account. I had to delete it using admin tools, computer management, forced delete. Now no problems logging off users. I downloaded some patches that were available in Windows update. I dont think it was service pack 2 files, as I dont believe its available yet. I went to launch Call of Duty in single and multiplayer mode, executes initial screen, but Will Not Load! Doom3 same problem! I unistalled Call of Duty and reinstalled it, no dice, same problem. I deleted DirectX in program files and reloaded it. Cannot play any games at all. Cd-rom is not the issue as it plays music and had no problem re-installing Call of Duty. By the way I am using XP. Has anyone experienced this problem before. Everything else on my computer seems to be working. No error messages in Doom3, Call of Duty reports error message stating: WIndows unable to load Call of Duty, send error report. Help Me Please! I'd hate to reformat.... Thanks in advance! Paul

Hi, I've been using W7 for quite a while now and, then 2 days ago it started freezing randomly. It seemed to be just the screen as I could see from my modem that my internet was still active, and when I pressed "Caps Lock" etc the appropriate light changed. I was unable to do anything though, apart from hit "reset". Then, yesterday, W7 decided to suddenly stop working. I can get it to "Windows Starting" but the after that I just get a black screen, with no kind of keyboard activity.
All that I've done recently is uninstall the MS audio driver and try to replace it with latest Realtek (R214) drivers, and also connect the 2 x USB 2.0 ports from my case to my motherboard (I've never connected them up before as I've never needed them). By the way I'm currently, and reluctantly, back on XP and all seems to be running okay - audio and case USB 2.0 ports included.
I tried all the StartUp options that I could see: "Safe Mode" "Repair" etc but I always get the same result - black screen with no option but a hard reset.
After checking the "ntbtlog.txt" file created I noticed a large number of items "Did Not Load..."

Apart from having no audio, I had no real problems with W7 prior to this. If it can be helped I'd rather fix W7 than install it again, purely because I don't want to lose all my apps/progs and settings.

If anyone could help explain why this may have happened or, even better, help rectify the proble... Read more

OS: Windows 10 Pro v.1607
Suddenly Pinterest.com fails to load in Edge; a few pins appear but then the page freezes. This same Pinterest account works fine in IE on this same computer and also loads fine in Edge on other computers. Here is what I've tried without success:

1. Clear browser cache and cookies
2. Delete all files in Edge recovery folder
3. Sign in with another Pinterest user account
4. Sign in with local account instead of Microsoft Account
5. Removed saved password for Pinterest
6. Reboot computer

Edge performs perfectly with all other sites. This issue is apparently limited to this one site in this one browser on this one computer. Pinterest support suggested we use IE Of course, but I like to figure out what causes these things to happen. It may be irrelevant but this issue was first observed following a batch of Windows updates on 12/13/16. The only one that looked like a remote possibility was KB3206632, but that was a significant cumulative update that I really do not want to uninstall. Furthermore, that same update was applied to another computer which does not exhibit this issue. I'm out of ideas. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

John

You've tried all the obvious things I would have suggested, but there is one more you could have a look at, the 'Use Microsoft Compatibility List' setting. This is hidden on a 'Developer settings' page which you get to by typing about:flags in Edge's address bar. Are the 'working' Edge PCs also on 1607? If so, compare this settings page on the Edge that doesn't work with the settings for one that does and see if they are different. If only the 'non-working' Edge is on 1607, then try turning 'Use Microsoft Compatibility List' on or off and see if it makes a difference.

I'm not sure this is the right place for this.

I had the Vista Beta (I don't remember if it was 1 or 2). I then set my pc to boot into XP by default as I didn't like Vista.

Everything was fine until yesterday. Now when I boot into XP Explorer and about 2/3 of my services don't load. I can start them manually just fine, but they no longer auto run.

Any ideas? Or is this a reload?

a few days ago i was plugging my pc and monitor in. as i was plugging in the monitor the ground wire for the cord to my power supply got to close to one of the positive and negative terminals on the monitor cord as i was plugging it in, there was a huge shower of sparks and a shock ran up the ground wire and into my power supply. I would like to know what parts may of been damaged and what i would need to do to fix the problem. The computer turns on but nothing shows up, for a few seconds when it first starts up everything sounds normal, the cpu makes a little clicking noise like it always does when its functioning but a few seconds after boot up nothing at all happens. the screen is just blank, i know its still sending some kind of signal to the monitor otherwise it would just say,"No Input Signal" and then go into stand by.

Hi

the PSU is most definately stuffed, just pray the board hasnt taken a battering as well, the fact that the monitor isnt saying no input is normal when plugged into the PC even with the power off, it says no signal when you unplug it from the PC only, and is not a sign that the board is ok.

This is sort of a bug report. A Lenovo X131e with Windows 7 x64 and the PL2303 driver including 1.6, 1.61 and 1.7 will not successfully install the driver - Windows always reports "Driver Install Failed" on plug in to USB 3 or USB2 ports. However, putting a USB2.0 hub inbetween the USB to Serial Adapter and either USB port type makes the adapter work fine. This was not the case with the X130e. This is weird. My keyboard works fine during boot - {esc} at BIOS display, {enter} at OS select menu, {del} to load BIOS menu, and it works fine in BIOS setup, but once the splash screen loads, the keyboard no longer functions (but the mouse always works). The keyboard itself isn't the problem - it works on a sister machine, and I have swapped in another PS2 unit and a wireless USB model with the same results. I first saw the problem in Safe Mode. Since I can't enter my password, I can't get in to Device Manager. Anyone seen this before or have any guesses?

Home built 2/2007. ASUS P5W DH Deluxe mobo, AMI BIOS ver 2406, Windows XP SP2 build 2600, Core2 Duo E6600 @ stock speed, 2gb Corsair RAM, 2-320gb SATA2 as RAID 0, Gateway PS2 SK9920, Logitech Y-RAJ56A Wireless Pro and Gateway 2195DDX PS2 keyboards.

Answer:Keyboard Driver Quits when Windows loads...?

Can you get it to work safe mode?
I doubt Device Manager would tell you anything, but I am also wondering if a reset of bios defaults might fix this.

Hi everyone,
When I load Windows Vista normally, when it first gets into Vista it just hangs there and keeps "loading". So much for the fact that I cannot even get into anything because it's lagging so bad.

I'm not a pro like the rest of you but I do know my general way around a computer. So having said that, when I loaded Windows in Safe Mode with Networking, everything works fine and is smooth.

Thanks to assistance from TimW in the malware forum, we determined that this was not a virus / spyware issue, but a software issue.

I am trying to assist in fixing this computer for the family. I believe what happened is someone downloaded a program and because it took so long to install that the user "cancelled" the install by clicking on the cancel button while it was installing. I believe this is where the issue lies, as I think it may have corrupted the registry / drivers. Unfortunately, I'm not a pro in that area.

When I run msconfig and choose "selective startup" and click on the services tab, if I disable them all then restart windows normally. I can get into Windows no problems. The only exception is that I can't use sound, internet, etc making it pretty much useless to the family. Also, all of the startup items are disabled.

Basically I'm at a loss of what to do next. It doesn't seem to me like an earth shattering issue, but to you pros this may be an easy fix. (Here's to hoping)

Any assist... Read more

Answer:Suspected Registry / Driver Issue - Vista forever loads

Since you disabled all startup options, try enabling one at a time until you find the one that makes the system hang. Tedious, but the best way to diagnose that issue.

Question: USB - RS232

On my old pc i used a belkin ups with their bulldog software. The ups connected to the pc via a serial cable and all worked very well.So I buys a new pc and realise that it doesn't have a serial port. So I get a USB- RS232 cable (serial connector one end to connect to the ups and a USB conector the other end).I installed the drivers from the disk that came wit the usb/serail cable but the ups is not detected. Interestingly if I go into device manager, after installing the driver, and expand the tree so that i can see the driver one minute its there the next the device manager tree closes then opens and the driver disappears then it re-appears!My operating system is win xp home sp2.

Answer:USB - RS232

TomGI've used usb-serial converters, not all with the same degree of success. In most cases however, a reboot seemed to cure most ails, and sometimes only with the usb converter connected before boot up. Not a lot offer, but might be worth a try if you haven't already...

Question: RS232 on TV

RS232 on TV and Freeview Sat box. What is this serial port for?

Answer:RS232 on TV

Dunno about the TV. But my Humax Freeview STB has serial connection which can be used for uploading firmware upgrades from PC (after first downloading from Internet). Although the upgrades are available over the air, they are available sooner off the Internet. For this to work, one requires (for my box) what is known as a Null Modem Cable (and, of course, a serial connection on your PC). Cables avaialble on ebay, maplin etc.If you haven't got a serial connection on your PC, you can get a USB to serial adapter. It should all be described in your manual.Maybe the TV can take firmware upgrades in a similar way.

My computer keeps loading with yellow lines all over the screen. Sometimes it wont load at all. Its been doing this every since i bought mc afee anti virus download wont even let me reconfigure Help!

Answer:Computer when it loads loads with yellow lines all over.

It's probably just a coincidence that the problem started after McAfee. Why did you buy it in the 1st place? Microsoft Security Essentials is free as are several other AV programs. Try reinstalling your graphics drivers, if that doesn't help, try uninstalling McAfee. You can always reinstall it again.http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/...

Hello,I've got a plotter (well, it's a vinyl cutter), which is serial and according to the manual the pin-outs are as follow. It looks to be as if they put '1' for RTS when really they meant '7'. However, that aside, is this a standard straight through cable because TX/RX are not crossed but I thought if it were straight through then 4/6 and 7/8 wouldn't be linked?I'd rather just buy a cable, but this layout is confusing me Thanks for any help in letting me know about this layout.

Answer:Help with 9 pin RS232 pins.

Early serial connector layouts  were defined by the computer maker.  If that was they way they did it, that was the way it worked. Standard layouts became standard later. The layout you show in the picture is not exceptional at all. Here is another almost the same.http://www.diyha.co.uk/electronics/comm1.htmlAnd with photoshttp://www.google.com/search?q=9+pin+serial&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=yHq&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=ivns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=Sc7LTbDjKZO4sAObjqToBg&ved=0CDIQsAQ&biw=853&bih=372I like this one:

Hi
i bought a cheap usb to rs232 cable of ebay for £2 with a driver disc.

When i connect usb to port the wizard takes over and asks to install disc but then it will not install .
Have downloaded different drivers but it still wont work, drivers are on desktop i think
thought cable was not working so ordered another but same problem.
Am i doing something wrong?

Answer:usb to rs232 problem?

Some manufacturers of converters like this require you to install the driver software before connecting the converter to the computer. I would suggest going into device manager and uninstalling the converter, restart the computer. Hopefully on the driver disk there is a "setup" or "install" utility that can be executed, run this install and after it is done connect the converter to the USB port on the computer and let the New Hardware Wizard do its thing. If this doesn't fix the problem try a different vendors converter.

Hi allI am thinking of buying a new lap-top (nothing fancy) but I note that none seem to have an RS232 port any more.I MUST have RS232 because one use of the laptop would be in communicating with all sorts of strange devices that use RS232 (using all sorts of software).I know that USB to RS232 converters exist BUT now to the question:One piece of software I use is Hyperterminal and it "looks" for ports (eg RS232), but as far as I can tell, doesn't see USB (my son's laptop only has USB, and Hyperterminal only comes up with TCP, modem and COM4 (IIRC) which is the infra-red port). And all the other software (i.e. other than Hyperterminal) just seems to find COM1 and then works. Thus, does anyone know how all these RS232 bits of software could find the "port" via USB? Would the USB to RS232 converter cable have software that turns USB into COM1?Has anyone used stuff like Hyperterminal via USB?Thanks for any help.Skeletal

Question: RS232 problem

This is for the really old hands...

Got this Seiko labelprinter on Com4 (hispeed pci serial card).
My mobo is Asus P5Q3 wifi-ap deluxe.
I am always on a hell of a ride before I get this to work, these are the options shown in device mgr.:
bps 9600...115200 (several tried)
databits 8
parity none
stop bits 1
flow control none/hardware/xon-xoff (think hardware was the control of choice when it at at last worked for prior W7 installs: Beta, RC, W7)
Com 4

Msg "printer communication error".
Only possible setting on the printer is the com port.

Now I can try for days changing this and that and maybe as before it starts to work "just like that", but it is annoying: I had a crash and reinstalled W7 Ultimate.

W7 gives me a choice of two universal drivers, V8 and V10, tried to change to V8 but that doesn't change anything.

Anyone?

Answer:RS232 problem

Normally you don't need to change settings on the port itself. I would look towards a driver issue here (check for drivers for the printer itself that are comparable with W7)

Question: RS232 vs. Parallel

While working on a larger problem I found I was not quite sure of the port and cableling names. Is DB-25 RS232 the same as a Parallel port? Also, What is RS422 and RS485.

I know that DB-9 is RS232 and a serial port, so I assume that DB-25 RS232 is simiar to a serial port but I think I may be getting it mixed up with a standard Parallel port as well.

I had found one site but it was too technical for what I need to know. I just want to know an example of it's purpose and what type of connecter they use.

If someone could straighten me out on all this it would help me a lot.

[in case your wondering about the larger problem...it involves Punch Press machines, controls, and a BTR board. It seems most BTR's use a serial (DB9 RS232 connection) but ours uses what I am calling the parallel port]

How do I determine if the USB port is actually getting data to/from the system's COM port?

Some info:
- I have Vista Home Premium
- I purchased a Generic USB to RS232 adapter (from China) based on a PL2303 chip.
- The driver that came with the adapter seems to have installed properly.
- I have RealTerm installed.
- I jumpered Tx to Rx plus other pins on the male DB9 connector.
- I sought help from Prolific (re PL2303), but found nothing helpful.

But I don't know how to look for data passing through the adapter. What I type on the keyboard does not show up on the RealTerm screen.
I've worked with RS232 for years, and know about the signal-type on the USB port.
But now I am stumped, and about to cut the vinyl covers of the adapter.

Question: No RS232 support

First, I appologize for this being so long-----I have a laptop I was given to use at work that is dual booted into Windows 98 and XP Professional. The Windows 98 is being used for the DOS architecture only. It is not a full operating system setup. I use this DOS for operating a data acquisition machine. However, this new laptop does not have an RS232 port for the DB9 adapter cable that is on the data machine. What I am trying to do is to use a USB conversion cable as this laptop has many USB ports. I know I need a USB driver for this to work. I went to the adapter's webpage and downloaded the driver for Win98 (as there is no driver support for DOS). Here is my dilemna: being that Win98 is not a full operating system, the driver will not load. Is there some way I can manually place the driver in config.sys and autoexec.bat in the DOS architecture. I have tried many configurations that did not work. Unfortunately this data system has to run in DOS only.

Answer:No RS232 support

No.It would have to be a driver written specifically for DOS to work properly.

Answer:CD-ROM driver no longer working!!!!

No drivers are needed. Please don't try to install any.

1. Click on "Start" button, the click on "Run".

2. Enter "regedit.exe" and press "Enter".

3. When regedit starts, open up the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/system/currentcontrolset/control/class/
{4d36e965-e325 -11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}.

4. After clicking on {4d36e965-e325 -11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} you should see two settings on the right-hand side:
"upperfilters"
"lowerfilters"
Click on each of them, press "Delete" key and click "Yes".

Or you can download this reg file to do the same thing.

Use CDGone Variant if the other didn't work or you once had Roxio, but use the other one first.

The UPS doesn't have to be connected to the PC via USB or serial to protect it so you can use it as is.

Also tried ejecting and reinserting the drive, again with no results. Any idea? The DVD drive was  working fine until recently.

I can't get my usb to rs232 cable to install and vista keeps indexing the com port as it trys the next install. I have downloaded the driver, updated the driver, deleted the driver and reloaded the driver to no avail. Now it shows 26 com ports in use and tells me the device I am trying to install is trying to use a display name that is already in use. How do I clear this up so I can install this device?

I have a set of scales that outputs data on rs232. I need to read the data (weight in grams)multiply by a price per gram and output to a rs232 LCD display. Is there an easy way to do this. the scales constantly output and the price per gram has to be adjustable

Answer:RS232 data converter and output

Easy is a relative term. Most scales like that are used in some company or way that demands some software in order to be sold. Look at the makers web site for how they expect you to use the product. We still have many running a DOS app.1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

Since installing SP3 to my Windows XP Pro system my RS232 serial port no longer works. I have a Hyperpen tablet that has an RS232 connection so it no longer functions. Is there a converter that I can attach to the male RS232 so I can connect via a USB port? I have seen a USB 2.0 to RSB (male) serial adapter dongle but that is of no use. I'd appreciate any suggestions towards resolving this.

Answer:RS232 serial port not working

Have you checked in Device Manager to see if it is working there , or if there any conflicts . It won't have just broken , it must be a software problem as it occurred as you loaded SP3 , it might just need reconfiguring , what does the tablet need in terms of port speed etc. , data bits , flow control etc. ? Dear Friends;
We have many software installed in Laptop having WXP for trouble shooting purpose at machines. Communication of many devices is done through RS232. Some time it happen that a we fail to communicate with a device while everything is ok because some other software has already captured RS232 port of Laptop and it is hard for me to find out which software has done that.
Yesterday, after making communication with a PC via two soft wares, I tried to hibernate the PC but it failed to Hibernate as Com port was busy/captured while all the programs were closed. Is there any way to know which program has captured the Com port?

Answer:How do we know which program captured RS232 port??

I have used Portmon with XP 32 bit: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896644.aspx
I am not aware of an equivalent utility though for 64 bit XP.

Here is the deal. Where I work we have a ticketmaster application that uses a seperate RS232 network. This means special lines that run to a special little ticketmaster box in my switch room. Needless to say it is a royal PITA when we have to move these computers connected to this special network.

So to fix this I was hoping there were some kind of RS232 to ether net adapters out there. I know they exist, but I think the solution I need is special. i need an Adapter on the PC side that talks to an adapter on the switch side. So basically the flow would go like this:

COM Port --> Convertor Box --> Ethernet --> Converter Box --> Com Port on Special Box

Anyone have any suggestions?

Answer:Piggy Back RS232 Over Ethernet

Is it realy Ethernet or justr cat5. (meaning is there going to be a ethernet switch in between?)

I have a CyberPower USB to RS232 adapter. From the research I have done this should create a Com Port in my "Device Manager" so that programs
are then able to use it. I have researched this specific device and there are apparently problems with how it works on WIndows 8.1 but I have not been able to find a solution. The driver for the device was installed by WIndows plug-and-play controls. It decided
that the "HID-compliant vendor-defined device" driver version 6.3.9600.16384 was appropriate, however there is no Com Port in the "Device Manager" and instead a "USB Input Device" appears corresponding to the adapter each time
it is plugged in. Under the "Devices and Printers" the "Unspecified" device "CPS RS232 USB Bridge for UPS" shows up.

When I attempt to use drivers from a different source (the manufacturer of the USB to RS232 adapter), the plug-and-play ignore the new drivers and use the ones from above.

How can I get the Com Port created so that I can use the adapter properly?

Is there a way to circumvent the plug-and-play and use the driver from the manufacturer?

Thank you for your help.

Answer:CPS RS232 USB Bridge for UPS - not creating Com Port

Hi,
Regarding current situation, let?s try to manually install the driver by following these steps:

Device manager -> Right click the device and choose update driver -> Browser my computer for driver software -> Let me pick from a list of device driver? -> Have disk -> choose the driver manually to install.

Then let me know whether this device can work fine.
For further troubleshooting, please post back the image for descript more detailed about your issue.

I have a need for an RS232 port probably PCI, but I see such a wide diversity of prices. Which should I choose? Some have a UART and some do not. Do I need a UART? Thanks, Jim

P.S. I'll be using it with ham radio software called Ham Radio Deluxe (HRD) and a ham radio transceiver Yaesu FT-950

Answer:Adding an RS232 PCI port to my desktop

Check to see if you have a PCI slot. Some newer PC's only have PCIe slots and if they have a PCI slot it is a "bridged" slot to the PCIe bus and many PCI devices will not work or work properly on a bridged PCI slot.

I would check and see what others with that software are using.

Hello, so I bought cheap usb to rs232 cable off ebay and been trying to get it working. I tried installing many different drivers from internet and still windows is not recognizing my cable. I tried to copy drive file to system32\drivers, no luck.

Has anyone else had similar problem? Do I need to buy prober cable with driver cd included?

Thank you

Answer:Usb to serial rs232 no working drivers

You need a Prolific PL2303. Its the ONLY one I've found that will work with my wife's Singer Embroidery machine. It works on both Win 7 and Win 8.

Hello All,

As a surveyor, I'm trying to slowly solve all the glitches on my new Windows 8.1 laptop.

1. Mouse

I often visit this NSW government site SIX Maps

When navigating the map, you use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in or out and hold down the left mouse button to pan.

In my new windows 8.1 laptop, the scroll and pan functions won't work.

Iv'e tried 4 different mice and none of them work but they all work on my old XP laptop.

I've also tried 2 browsers (Chrome and IE)

I have also been in touch with the NSW goverment support team to no avail.

Looking in control panel, I couldn't recognise anything that would help.

Does anyone have any ideas?
2. USB to RS232 serial port cable replicator

This cable is used to download/upload information to the survey instrument. It worked fine on Windows XP, but will not work on Windows 8.1. It may be something to do with the port configuration.

Please note that the software is very old and I had to create a virtual XP machine using VMWARE to run it. (As well as some other obsolete software such as XTGOLD and Q.EXE! Any one remember these? I've yet to come across any file editing program to equal Q.EXE)

Hopefully someone will have some ideas otherwise I'll have to go back to the manufacturer and they'll charge more than I paid for the computer!!!

Thanks in advance for your help,

Michael

Answer:Problem with mouse and USB to RS232 cable

Well, I tried the link you provided and I was able to scroll using IE, Logitech Mouse, and Windows 8.1 Pro (64 bit). However, when I first accessed the site, it said that their site would work better with FireFox or Chrome. I have Chrome installed but did not try it.

USB to RS232, which end connects where? Does the USB end connect to the computer or the survey equipment? When running your XP, does it provide an error when you try to connect upload/download data? I would think that your VMWARE and XP will be able to handle everything, but you will need to play with port settings to have everything configured the way it was before. For example, my wife's computer is Windows 8.1 Pro, and I have her run VMWARE and Windows XP so she can use the embroidery module for her sewing machine. The one thing you have to do is to make sure that when you start the VM machine, you must tell the VM machine to use anything plugged into the USB ports to be used in the XP and not the Host machine.

Anyway, don't give up yet and keep poking around you'll find a solution.

We?re excited to announce the release of Windows Application Driver (WinAppDriver) version 1.0. This 1.0 release is the first WinAppDriver release without the Beta label. This release is a big milestone for the project which was first introduced during Build 2016 and has been growing in adoption.

What is WinAppDriver
Today, it?s easier than ever to build software for multiple platforms and devices. Microsoft supports any developer working on any platform to build software for any device. We?re showing this support in many tooling investments including .Net, UWP with .Net Standard, Rome, VS Code, Xamarin and WSL. In alignment with this vision we need a test tooling strategy that is equally cross platform and cross device, and that is where WinAppDriver fits in.

WinAppDriver is an open standards based tool for UI Test Automation. You can use WinAppDriver to run Automated UI tests for any application on Windows 10. The support for open standards means if you?ve been running UI Test Automation using Appium or Selenium, you can use your existing tools and preferred languages to write tests for Windows applications.

Version 1.0 Details
This release of WinAppDriver is our first non-Beta for a few reasons:
WinAppDriver now supports the core set of features we initially aspired to back when we launched the project. This doesn?t mean we?re done, but we do feel confident about the supported set of features.
Over the last year we?ve received feedback from the commu... Read more
