Preferred Solution: external speakers not working/pc has internal speakers

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi jc,

Welcome to the Forum.

Never seen one of these before, Try right clicking on the speaker symbol in the notification area, select Playback Devices, You should be able to select the speaker device that you want to use.
Right click enable/disable Hide/unhide
Left Click will allow you to configure the device after selecting Configure
Properties will also give you some options

I hope this helps

Hi, hope I'm posting in the right place.

I had a set of GE 2.1 speakers working well with my Sony Vaio for about a year. Recently the sound started to go in & out, I had to move the wire around a lot and tape it or hold it in a certain spot to get them to work. Then one day they stopped working altogether. Assuming it was the speakers, I went and bought a new set from Best Buy. Took them home, plugged them in... and nothing, nothing at all. So I tried the OLD speakers in another desktop computer, and they worked perfectly.

So I assumed my headphone jack was broken and was going to go about trying to get a new piece and solder it and all that, but then I'm sitting here and just realized my headphones work perfectly.

What's wrong? How come the headphones work, but 2 pairs of external speakers don't?

Thanks so much

Jillian

Hi!

I have L500-13T(PSLJ3E) with 32 bit Vista.

When I connect external speakers, the internal speakers continue to play. So I have sound on both. Other laptops turn off the internal speakers when an extenal one is connected.
How to make the L500 also do the same?

Regards,
David

Answer:Satellite L500-13T - External speakers do not mute internal speakers

First try updating the BIOS to the latest version.

Also check the Sound Settings in Windows - perhaps you can configure this 'feature'.

Also check the HDMI settings, and have a read of the Users Manual.

My external speakers work but my internal ones stay muted.  I have re-installed all drivers (Realtek) & problem won't go away. Also tried system restore & system scan shows no problem.

Answer:Internal speakers stay mute when external speakers disconnected

Hello. After you re-install the Realtek audio driver, run the audio test in the ePSA diagnostic. If you cannot hear tones during the test, then the speakers have failed or become disconnected. If you do hear the tones then the speakers are okay.
You can test the driver by switching it with the Windows native driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked [but SEE NOTE].7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, sometimes you have to restart, sometimes not.[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]NOTE: if you have a 2-in-1 model and do not see a "High Definition Audio" option after step 6, then uncheck "Show compatible hardware". Then in step 7, if you see 2 "High Definition Audio" devices, select the 2nd one.If you only have the symptoms with one of the... Read more

I recently got a new HP zBook 15 with the slim docking station and am experiencing an issue related to the speaker output. If I plug my external powered Bose speakers into the line out of the docking station I get sound out of both the external Bose speakers and the internal laptop speakers at the same time. In addition the sound from the Bose speakers sounds horrible...tinny and completely lacking any bass. If I plug the Bose speakers into the headphone jack on the side of the laptop (not the docking station) then I get great sound and ONLY the Bose speakers produce sound (which is what I want). Is there a fix to get only the external speakers to play when plugged into the docking station audio out? I've uninstalled and re-installed the Conexent ISST Audio drivers twice...no change. I've tried messing with the B&O Sound Control panel, but it doesn't have any configuration for the audio ports. I've messed around in the Windows Playback devices control panel, but can't seem to find a way to shut off the internal laptop speakers. FYI, this is a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. All Mircosoft updates installed. All HP updates installed via the HP Support Assistant. Latest laptop BIOS installed. Help! The sound output sounds HORRIBLE through the docking station. There must be a fix.

Hi I bought a E470 Thinkpad with windows 10 ~2 months ago. The computer has been sitting idle for the last month (in sleep mode) and when I started it today I have an issue where the internal speakers wont output any sound. However connecting headphones or other external devices lets me outout audio (through said device). I've looked through various topics online (non-lenoveo related). The most common issues people have are the following:-Speakers are disabled / not selected as default device  *Pretty confedent this isn't my problem as everythin seems fine in the audio properties/settings-The driver is broken and needs reinstallation / replacement  *I have reinstalled the driver "Conexant Smartaudio HD", same problem after restart  *I have replaced the driver with the "High Definition Audio Device", same problem after restart-There's a sensor in the mini-jack socket whats faulty leading the computer to believe headphones are connected  *I don't know the correct way to go about diagnosing this, but several users on another forum fixed the issue (on different computers) by "poking around" with a toothpick in the audio jack.  Other observations / useful info:The computer does not appear to "know" that there is an issue with the audio. The internal speakers are not disabled, in able to adjust the volume bar. When I connect an external speaker / headphones a dialog box appears where I can chose between Headphones, Headset and Speaker. For th... Read more

Once I plug my headphones in or my hearing aids bluetooth device in, it all goes south. The internal speakers continue to work as does the bluetooth, but nothing is coming out of the headphones. Since I was once in IT, this problem is unique to the jack itself. Either the jack lifted up or was pushed back and never properly tested. The hook, I just received this computer 3 weeks ago to replace a faulty HDMI out port. I was told that there would be an open ticket so if I had any problems with this computer it would be attended to. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Hello,
I recently purchased a Studio 1558 laptop. The specs are below:
Processor: Intel (R) Core (TM) i7 CPU   Q 720 @ 1.60 GHZRAM: 6 GBSystem type: 64-bit operating systemATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470Sound - ATI High Definition Audio Device, IDT High Definition Audio CODECI have plugged in older Dell speakers that I used with my desktop. The sound works fine until I load a webpage, or load a folder etc and then sound will temporarily switch from my external speakers to my internal laptop speakers. This is quite annoying as it happens frequently and sometimes I blare my externals which can't be good if it keeps switching to my internals.
Can anyone recommend a fix? It would be greatly appreciated.

I am working on a sony vaio pcg-3b1m

The power socket has recently been repaired, and the laptop fully and correctly (I have checked), re assembled.

Problem is, there is little or no sound coming from the internal, or when connected, external speakers.
Have tried updating drivers, and all the usual sound checks, but to no avail. Even so far as a full factory restore has been done, but still with no joy.

Any suggestions?

I have two monitors (one VGA and one HDMI ) to the CPU (new XPS 8700), but sound only comes out of the monitor speaker with the HDMI connection.  The other speaker does work and has been tested with a 3.5MM speaker cable.
The video card is NVIDA GTX 745.  In the audio set-up control panel from the NVIDIA, I disabled audio from the HDMI thinking that I could then run 3.5MM cable on a Y splitter to the audio out port and by-pass the HDMI cable.  I tried every port and either experienced no sound or sound in one or the other speaker.
I realize these speakers are not the best and I am fine with them.  I like the clean clutter desktop look.
Can anyone help me to get both of these monitor speakers working?

The soundcard on my toshiba p-50 satellite stopped working, therefore i can't use my internal speakers or audio jack. I purchased a usb audio jack so i could use my headphones but i'm still unable to use my internal speakers. I was thinking maybe an external sound card could do the trick, I'm not sure. Any suggestion on how I could use my internal speakers without having to go through the trouble of replacing the broken soundcard?

Answer:How to use internal speakers with a external sound

I can't think of any way of connecting internal speakers to an external soundcard as far as I'm aware they're hard wired to the internal soundcard and if that's gone they're not getting any signal and without popping the case and rewiring them that's how they'll stay. If anybody knows otherwise please say.
I'd be tempted to try a cheap compact Bluetooth speaker or combine the USB audio jack with some clip on speakers.

The long and short of this is no.

I've looked into this thoroughly in the past and it's just not possible

The only thing I have come across (other than having a corrupted audio driver) which might be able to do it is NTONYX - VIrtual Audio Cable 4 but I could never get it to work and I didn't think it was worth the money.

I hope you can have more luck with this than me.

Hello,

I hope someone here can solve this problem because I'm at my wits end.

I installed a Microsoft headset called "LifeChat LX-3000" with a built in microphone. I only want to use it to make online videos for my business. Everything worked fine until I unplugged the headset. I can't get any sound at all from my computer. The internal speakers and external speakers give me no sound. The only way I can hear anything is by wearing the headset. I finally gave up and uninstalled the headset, but I still can't get any sound.

Any suggestions?? Why in the world can't I get my sound back??

Answer:[SOLVED] No Sound Through Internal or External Speakers

First, I am assuming that you still have your speakers hooked up the female mini pin that is green.

Second, go to
Start > Control Panel > Sound and Audio Device properties

3. Click on audio tab. Default device listed should be your onboard audio or sound card. If is not selected, select it and hit apply. If nothing is in the selection box, you may have to reinstall or re-enable your audio device.

4. Click on volume tab. Make sure mute is not selected.

Greetings!

The headphone jack on my Sony Vaio notebook has a "loose contact" and it is no longer possible to listen with headphones. So I bought a USB sound card and plugged it in. That works fine when you are listening through the headphones but the card seems to hijack the whole sound system. It installs itself as THE sound card and the original card is disabled. If I boot up the machine with the USB card it automatically installs itself (logical enough). If I then want to just briefly listen to a file without searching for my headphones it is not possible. The internal speakers are not running through the USB sound card. If I go into the Control Center and change the sound card under "Audio" I can then listen through the internal speakers. But this is a real pain. I tried using Device Manager and the Audio in Control Center to see if I could re-route the internal speakers through the USB card but I couldn't even locate them let alone re-route them. If anyone out there knows how to do this I would appreciate the tip. Maybe it's just not possible. One or the other.

If I bought a PCMCIA Soundblaster card would I have the same problem?

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Chimney, Thanks so much for your help. I ended up going to Windows Support, prior to your Post, they did a remote fix.  Again, i thank you for your Support on my issue! I have another issue that maybe you can help me with. Yesterday, out of the blue, my PC Screen turned Solid Yellow then Red, then blue, then Green, all were solid color. Next my PC shuts down, goes in Repair mode. The PC was unable to repair itself. I have HP Windows 8 Recovery Media Disc's, which my factory installed system. I reinstalled, but Windows Activation will not or cannot read my Product Key from the BIOS. How may I recover this key? What are my options? Any input would be extremely welcome! HP Envy 23, d-044, All-In-One, Touchsmart, Beats Audio. Mod Best Regards, Phillip

Thanks for the post @vpiPhillip,

I understand that you had to reinstall Windows 8 and are facing difficulty in activating the OS on your computer. Happy to help.

Have you tried any methods on your own?

If you have installed Windows 8 using the recovery kit that was created on your computer, recommend you to refer to this HP Article for the procedure to activate Windows 8 on your computer.

My laptop's internal speakers recently went straight from normal to no sound whatever (from any source), while the volume level still fluctuates as expected in the System Tray Volume Mixer. External speakers work fine. Is this a simple case of the internal ones giving up the ghost? (The laptop is 6 years old).

Hi, I am currently looking for a way to make my built in laptop speakers and my external speakers play at the same time.

Like most laptops if there is something plugged into the line out jack the internal speakers are disabled and the external speakers take priority.

Is there a program that could accomplish this or is what I'm asking terribly difficult to accomplish?

Something that may be significant is that my integrated audio chip set is not manufactured by Realtek (nor is any other part of my computer).

I have had this desktop for years without any issues. I use external speakers connected to the audio jack in the back. Once you plug in external speakers (or headset), the internal speakers get disabled as expected. Last night my PC automatically installed the Windows Anniversary Update (Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607). After this update, now both my internal speakers and external speakers are working at the same time! I cannot seem to disable the internal speakers without also disabling my external speakers. Lowering the volume affects both sets of speakers as well. I tried disabling audio and re-enabling but that didn?t help. How can I get back to my original audio behavior where connecting the external speakers (or headset) to the back 3.5mm jack would automatically disable the internal speakers? Thanks.

I'm writing this post because this was asked so many times over, but nobody seems to have come up with a good answer. People suggested some trials of paid programs, but that's not really an everyman solution. I don't know on how many machines my workaround will work, depends on the audio chip.

I'm going to tell you how to do this in foobar2000. My system is Win7.

0) I think that this will work only if you see something like this in your Playback devices (right-click windows audio icon & select from menu to launch it):

So if the headphone output is not "Ready" when nothing is plugged into it, you will maybe be able to use the HDMI output if you feel adventurous, or for that matter any output that you have. You possibly have no idea why I'm talking about that, but this will be clear after reading through the rest of my little manual.

-------------------

1) download & install foobar2000 here: http://www.foobar2000.org/download
play around with it of you don't know the player.

2) download & install the latest ASIO4ALL here: http://www.asio4all.com/
leave all install options default.

3) download ASIO support for foobar2000: http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_out_asio
double-click it, fb2k will install it automatically.

4) go to foobar2000 file->preferences->output->asio. Check if asio4all is visible at the top list. You can use the x64 driver (requires foobar2000 restart)

Answer:Make your laptop internal & external speakers play together

Props to OP - I've found a somewhat related hassle-free solution for desktops with Realtek Audio.

In the settings, you can 'disable front jack detection'. Therefore, speakers connected to the rear panel won't stop when you plug something else in the front.

I just reloaded a laptop with XP SP2. After reload, my laptop internal and external speakers don't produce any sound. I loaded the driver from the laptop manufacturers website. And everything appears to be set correctly and working from a systems view. However - no sound from PC on boot, application, or cd or dvd play.

In Control Panel/Sound and Audio
Hardware tab - Windows says the hardware is working OK
Volume tab - All mute buttons are off/unchecked. Volume is high on all componets - PC Speaker etc.

I've also removed the driver and reloaded it. still nothing.

Is there anything else I should try? I doubt it is the motherboard.....

Answer:No sound from internal or external speakers after XP reload on laptop

It may not be the correct driver. There are some cases that the OS wopuld not report any abnormalities but the driver may not be the exact driver you need. Identify the sound device you need ( you can use unknown device identifier for that ) and download the apropriate driver.

Also check the microphone socket incase something got stuck in there.

We have a Portege R500-11Z running XP and want to use Skype with an external desk microphone and the internal speakers.

When we plug the mic into the MIC socket on the Portege, the built-in speakers cut out!

How do we use an external mic and still hear the internal speakers?

Answer:Portege R500-11Z: How can use external mic and hear internal speakers

Hi

> When we plug the mic into the MIC socket on the Portege, the built-in speakers cut out!
Are you sure you used the Mic port and not headphone port?

Did you check your Skype Audio settings?
There is an option called ?Ring through the Speaker too? or something like that.

Please check also the Realtek HD audio manager in control panel.
There is a tab called Audio I/O.

Usually you can change the connector settings clicking on the small tool/key icon.
Disable the option called ?Mute the rear panel output when front headphone plugged in?

As you see it?s called ?headphone? and not microphone and therefore I?m a little bit confused why the speakers are off when connecting an external mic.

By the way; there is also an tab called Microphone.
Check if both options which reduce the echo and noise are OFF

Hello,
I got this proble with my laptop: speakers integrated to the computer do not work anymore.
I checked the Device Manager and all seems to be working properly: no yellow question marks or something like that. Nonetheless, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers but nothing changed.
On the other hand, when I plug the headphones in, I can hear all sounds from them, so I'm worried about an hardware problem. Before going through the hardware repair, I'd liek to be sure that's the cause.
Could anywone please suggest further checks?

I also understood that the headphone jack has a switch that is closed when the headphones are plugged in, so that the audio output is sent to the headphones and not to the integrated speakers: in case this switch is lagged, is there a way to prevent the audio outpu rerouting to the headphones?

Last information: this problem appeared after the upgrade to Windows 10, but I'm pretty sure that the audio initially worked fine for at least a couple of days, so I would exclude a relation with the operative system update.

For information: the laptop is an ASUS N55SF.

Thanks for the support.

Answer:Internal speakers not working

Additional information: hardware failure of the speakers is excluded, in fact, I tested the speakers by running Puppy Linux and all worked fine.

I would be grateful of additional hints to solve this annoying issue.

HI new to forums.

I have a issue with a user.  She has clicking in her speakers now that she has been updated to windows 10.  She used to have 7.
I have done the following steps :
updated bios to current bios
updated drivers for audio (both normal update and clean update (removed then rebooted then loaded)
Updated intel chipsets (Intel is the audio type on this one)
Updated dock chipset
increased cpu power in power management (100%)
removed all wires around pc save network\power\audio
At a lost now.  Any ideas short of getting rid of device or rolling back to win 7 would be much appreciated.   Thanks for your time.

With Dell Support Assist microphone test -- earphone playback is good, on-board speaker is terribly scratchy. The sound card lists as "ATI high Definition Audio Device" and "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC."
The laptop is Dell Studio 15 (1555) running windows 7 Professional, 236GB used, 214GB free space, Intel P8700 2.53 GHz Processor, 64 bit OS, 4GB memoryThe built-in speakers used to sound good but now they are too scratchy to understand. However the headset and external speakers (both 3.5 mm jack interface) sound good and a HDMI connected projector sounds good.
I will appreciate advice.

Answer:On-board speakers are scratchy but external speakers & headphones sound good?

Hello. As a test, switch from the IDT audio driver to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "IDT High Definition Audio Device".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the IDT driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If you get the noise while using the native driver then it is not a driver issue, which would mean there is a strong chance of speaker failure, particularly since the noise is not in headphones. If you would like to replace the speakers I can point you to the service manual.

I see that this is a pretty popular question on this forum by searching, but none of those methods are really working for me.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 that I think I have a SigmaTel Audio system (I'm not the best with computers, but I think it does). I use Microsoft XP.

This problem started a few months ago when I had my computer plugged into a TV through both VGA and headphone jack. Somehow the headphone male part got bent when it was in and when I unplugged it the internal speakers no longer worked, but headphones and external speakers work fine. I've searched the internet for a while for ways to fix it over the last month or so, but couldn't find anything that actually worked. This wouldn't really be a problem, but I move my laptop around a lot and live in a college dorm room and it's tough to have speakers constantly set up and connected to my laptop.

I've read a little about problems like this and it appears that I probably hit something inside the headphone jack when the plug bent that makes the computer think headphones are always plugged in (just a guess). I've tried plugging and unplugging my headphones really fast like a million times and it hasn't worked. I've reinstalled the sound drivers, reset the computer, etc. I'm kind of out of ideas. I think I may have to open up the computer, which I really don't want to do (I've done it before to install RAM and stuff, but I'm not great at it), but if t... Read more

I have always had Altec External Speakers since I bought this Dell Dimension 4700. We have taken our desktop on vacation with us and did not bring the speakers. I get no sound from anything internal however. When I go into Device Manager, you cannot turn them on (only OFF is an option, ON is grayed out) so I am assuming they are turned on. Also, the volume is on, not on mute, and turned up high. Any ideas?

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop [windows xp]. Up until a couple days ago it was working just fine for me. Recently the internal speakers stopped working. Oddly, the internal speakers will still play system noises, but they won't play music or anything else. When I checked the volume settings it said: There are no active mixer devices available.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks!

Hi

You could change the settings in Realtek audio manager which can be found in control panel.
There should be a tab called I/O or something like that?
At the right you will find the headphone and mic plug? do a right click on headphone plug and check if the option enable internal speakers has been enabled?

Cheers

When I plug external speakers on my Qosmio x770-135 the internal speakers don't turn off.
Can someonee help me?

Answer:External speakers do not turn off Qosmio x770 speakers

You may check the Realtek HD Audio Manager in the Control Panel.
In the top right corner, there's a little yellow folder called "Connector Settings?.
There, you could enable the setting "Enable pop-up dialog, when device is plugged in".
Now when you plug in an external speaker or headphones, it pops up and I select the option "headphone" (instead of "line-in"), and then the sound comes out only through the headphones/ext.speaker.

I am having a problem with the internal speakers on the X201.  Basically, the speakers just stop working.  I could be in the middle of playing a song and the speakers pop and then go out.  I have to reboot the system for them to work again.  Headphones still work despite the fact they go out.   I am thinking this is a fault with the IO Assembly board, but am not sure..  I have reinstalled Win7 clean with updated drivers and still see the same problem. Another interesting thing is I keep getting the disconnect/connect sound ( like you are plugging in a usb device ) at random times.  That always seems to correlate to the windows AUDIODG process. Any ideas?

Hello all,

I've had my laptop for just over 6 months now and I've encountered no problems until recently.

However I am experiencing problems with the sound. It just doesn't appear to be working, despite the volume being turned up to the max. The problem usually fixes itself briefly after a restart but it then cuts out after time.

None of the playback devices are muted. When I try testing the speakers, I get an error message saying "Device in Use: Please close any applications using this device for playing audio" - however, there doesn't appear to be any device using the speakers.

I have recently started using an HDMI cable to use my laptop through my TV, I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Acer Aspire E1-570 - internal speakers not working?

The HDMI is probably the reason. When an HDMI cable is plugged in, Windows changes the default audio playback from the Speakers (PC Sound card) to HDMI.

If you want the PC speakers on, with an HDMI cable plugged in you will have to manually change the playback device from the HDMI to the "Speakers". This is done in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel, Playback section. However, if you reboot, with the HDMI cable plugged in you will have to manually change the playback device again.

Hi All,I've only had this laptop (Lenovo Z50-70, Windows 8.1) since December and now the internal speakers don't work at all. The sound only works through left headphone.I've tested the sound with multiple head/earphones but sound only comes out from the left ear.The volume control reads "speakers" regardless of whether my headphones are plugged in or not.The problem occurs regardless of program/browser used.I have uninstalled the driver (Conexant Smart Audio HD) through device manager, through programs and features and reinstalled from Lenovo's website.I have searched for updates through the device manager.Rolled back and updated through the drivers properties. I've refreshed my Laptop and tried it all again and updated my laptop through Windows Update but nothings changed.

I have a T510 using the Contexant 20585 SmartAudio HD driver for the internal speakers. Today they just stopped working. I run the tests and I get no sound left or right. Now I did notice something odd. I open Control Panel and then I click SmartAudio. I then click the third icon from the left at the bottom of the screen (Audio Director). Now on the right hand panel of the screen I see a large, red 'X' beside the laptop. That would be between the laptop and the headphones.... anybody know what that is? (Would it appear to signify that something is amiss with the speaker?) Anyway, I've uninstalled, installed the latest drivers (May 2010). Still nothing... any ideas?

Hi

I bought this Equium A110-276 a few months ago. I understand that connecting external speakers disables the internal speakers automatically. I have been using external speakers for quite some time, but now when I disconnect them the internal speakers are not working anymore.

Any ideas what I should do to get my internal speakers working again?

Many thanks.

Answer:Internal Speakers not working on Equium A110-276

Hi,

usually the socket where you connect your external speakers uses a sprung metal contact to disconnect the built in speakers when the plug is pushed in. Removal of the plug from the external speakers should then allow the sprung contact to return to its normal position which will return power to the built in speakers.
It is possible that the plug from the external speakers has bent the sprung contact so that it no longer completes the circuit for the built in speakers. You will need to dismantle you nnotebook to get access to the socket to check.

You could ask your local authorised service partner to check for you so that you don't invalidate your warranty.

Hi, I am using Lenovo G460 since 2 years and I am unable to hear from internal speakers, but I connected headphones or external speakers it's working fine. anybody can tell the problem

Answer:my lenovo g460 internal speakers are not working

hi arjunkanda,

Can you try Uninstalling and Reinstalling the Audio Driver,

Open Device Manager and look under sound and gaming controller for WIN7 and Audio input for WIN8/8.1
Look for something says Conexant, and uninstall it.
Place a check if you're prompted of "Delete driver software for this device"

Then install a audio driver from this download link of your system and install it.
      http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT072732

See if that works,
If not then, Im thinking a connection problem of the Speakers,

You can check your system's  Maintenance Manual to check on how to get access to the speaker cables connecting to the Mainboard on page (52).

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hi I have a Lenovo W500 4062-5YG... O/S: Win 7 Pro My sound device is a Conexant 20561 SmartAudio HD. The problem is, that the internal speakers have stopped working all of a sudden... I think it is a hardware problem since when I hookup external speakers or headphones they produce sound... but I am no expert! I have done the following to try and fix it: Disable, then enable audio driversUinstall, then install audio driversSetting the internal speakers as the default speaker sourceRestoring the system to an earlier day (where I knew that the speakers had functioned)None of these actions have worked. I actually thought I could perform a hardware test on the speakers in the "Lenovo Solution Center"... but it doesn't seem like it:-( So... How can I know for sure whether it is a hardware or software problem? And more importantly - How can I get my internal speakers to work? Any help is appreciated. CheersPhilip

Answer:Internal speakers have stopped working (Lenovo W500 with Win 7 Pro)

Hello Philip,

As mentioned in your post, you have performed all the major troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. I suggest you to update your BIOS also in order to resolve your issue. You can download and update the BIOS update utility from the below mentioned web link.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_SG/downloads/default.page?

Kindly click on Quick path and put your 7 Digit TYPE-Model number(40625YG) in the box and then click on the Find My Product. Please click on BIOS and then download the BIOS update utility according to your Operating System. It might resolve your issue. If it will also not work then it seem to be an issue with hardware. Kindly get in touch with the support centre they will assist you and try to resolve the issue.

If everything is normal, go into the device manager and look under sound, video, and game controllers.

Hi,

I'm using a Packard Bell laptop, Windows Vista and a Realtek sound card.

I've searched a lot to find how to NOT mute my laptop speakers when I insert something in the audio-out-jack.

The next threads say it's not possible by the hardware:
techspot.com/vb/topic140707.html
techspot.com/vb/topic130170.html
They're closed, so I can't comment on them.

BUT when I dual boot to Ubuntu (using the same hardware), I can easily choose to mute the internal speakers, or the jack, or none at all. So why can't it be possible on Vista?

Answer:Same audio through laptop speakers and external speakers

You answered your own question... It's a software/OS issue. If Vista's Realtek options in the Control Panel don't give you the same options as in Ubuntu, you're out of luck

Hi all,

I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop and have recently upgraded to windows 7 professional (32bit) from windows vista. I just changed from Bose Companion 3 speakers to Companion 5 because the 3 died. The 3 system used a stereo jack plugged into the headphone jack and worked fine until the Bose power supply(?) failed. The 5 uses a USB to connect.

I have an HDMI cable from my TV set top box to computer. Selecting the HDMI input shows only full screen TV display on computer. Also there is a coax cable from set top box to TV tuner card in computer. This allows TV to be displayed via Media Center in an adjustable window and I can open other windows (a browser, for instance) simultaneously. I choose which connection to use on my computer.

Previously with the Companion 3 speakers all sound came from them no matter the source. Now with the 5 speakers the HDMI TV source the sound comes from computer speakers not the Bose speakers. But if I play my music files (using Media Player) or TV (using Media Center) the sound does come from Bose speakers. Also sound from internet (YouTube, news videos, etc.) comes through Bose speakers.

Maybe someone has had this problem and knows a solution.

Answer:Some content from computer speakers and some from external speakers

I'm confused on where you plug in your hdmi set top box. Into your DISPLAY directly using and HDMI in port or some other HDMI in on your PC (like a graphics card?)

Also you have external computer speakers? do they plug in to your pc analog style? I know you said the Bose 5's are with usb.

Hi friends,

My satellite c640, internal speakers suddenly stopped working but works fine when earphones or any external sources are connected
Is it a hardware problem?

I?m using win 7 64bit and I tried to install drivers but seems to be a hardware problem

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite C640 internal speakers suddenly stopped working

Hi

I?m not sure if this is a hardware problem.
You may have to check some settings.

In control panel -> sound -> playback tab.
There you should see the speakers chosen as default device.
You can also click right on these speakers and you should see some options:
? speaker configuration
? test
? disable
? and so on?.

Test the speaker firstly. In my case some short bell sound appears. You can also mark the speaker and click on Properties button. There you will see a second window with some tabs. Check the second tab called LEVEL. There you can change the sound level.

What happen exactly when you try to reinstall sound driver? Do you get any errors?

Answer:Equium A200 PSAF5E - Internal speakers working but headphones aren't

This is very strange?. So you are 100% sure that your headphones are ok?
Did you test your headphones with other devices?

Did you try to update the sound driver? If not update it.

But not be honest, it looks more like a headphone jack fault as a software issue.

Anyway, the sound driver should be updated?

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
We would suggest you check with a different pair of speakers.
Also check if you can hear the sound when you plug in the headset .Since the in build speakers are working fine there shouldn't be a problem with the speakers.
You could update the audio drivers.

Hi I would try the windows trouble shooter first. After that try updating the driver and maybe visiting their forum ! http://forums.windowscentral.com/e?l...token=MWSZfmZN

My desktop died...so I'm setting up my T400 in the Advanced Mini Dock as my new desktop setup.  I have an old speaker set from Gateway...they're Boston Acoustic BA7500G - digital.  They don't work with the laptop!  I took the lappy to my office just now and plugged in the cheapo Dell speakers and they work.  So it's a digital thing...I guess.  I have "digital" ticked in the sound setup.  Maybe I need to use the S/pdif out on the dock to the speakers?  If so what type of cable?  Other suggestions....just get new speakers?   Thanks for helping!

Answer:External speakers not working with T400

Does it use the standard 3.5mm headphone jack?

Hello,

I was listening to the radio on the computer and then lost the sound.
I restarted the computer to see if that would help, but it did not.

I checked all the connections and everything seems fine.My off on dial is lit up so it seems to be getting power.

This stereo system is about ten years old. The bass went out last year but the speakers have been doing fine. Maybe it is just gotten to old to work anymore ???

Any ideas ?

Thanks for any help/advice you can give,

I have the ordinary internal speakers (2) playing music on my laptop and they work fine, but I have a pair of (not old) wireless speakers and I though is there a way were possibly a setting could allow me to play music through all of them, it would be great to have my laptop and some speakers in another room playing music.

I've looked deep, but I thought maybe some experts know the trick.

I have a new (October 2008) SL500 and the external speakers stopped working last night, but the headphone jack still works.I don't use my external speakers that often, nor at max volume so I don't think they blew out. Anyone else had this issue? I checked and nothing is muted and I even tried uninstalling then reinstalling the sound driver, restarting etc. Anyone else had this problem?

A thinkpad is in a docking station and external speakers are plugged in, they don't have any sound. The speakers work fine if they are plugged into the laptop itself. Does anyone have the solution?

Answer:External Speakers not working with docking station

Hi, sjadnew

What is the machine type and model of the system and the docking station? Also, what is the operating system?

As a base possible fix, you may want to try updating the drivers of the machine. All ThinkPad drivers can be found here. Select the system that you need and all the drivers for the system will appear.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I have a Hitachi Visiondesk 2630, model number PCX7DL7HM618P.
This computer was given to me by my doctor, it says "iPhysicianNet" on the front of the monitor.
I am having a problem getting my "Altec Lansing multimedia computer speaker system ATP3" to work as an external speaker system. The computer has speakers built in to the monitor, but I am not able to control the volume, as the icon in the taskbar has disappear for the volume. I tried disabling the driver to get the external speakers to work, but it won't work. The built-in speakers override the ones that are external. I know I have the speakers plugged into the output port.
I'm so confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:External Speakers Not Working on Hitachi Visiondesk 2630

You can get the volume icon put back in your system tray by the clock by going to Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices under the general tab put a check box in Place Volume Icon in the Taskbar then go to the Advanced button and choose the Drop Down menu and choose Desktop Stereo Speakers or whatever type of speakers the Altec Lansings are. Be sure you are plugging them into the Green Audio input on the back of the computer.

Twice now in 2 months my external speakers on my HP Pavilion notebook have quit working. My son fixed it the first time but he is not available now. Why does this keep doing this and what do I do to fix the problem? If I use headphones it works.

Answer:altec lansing external speakers quit working

Double click on the volume control icon, near the clock. Make sure that none of the muted boxes are checked. If you want to do something better, there is a cable available that allows you to run your PC through your home stereo. The sound is 100 times better. The cable only costs about 12 dollars. How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.

Hi. One moment all was fine - next, no sound... Can anyone please help?

My small external speakers connect via a USB port and an audio jack plugged into the speakers/headphone socket (both needed - I guess the USB connection is just to power them?). After months of no problems, when I connect the jack, there is no sound. The laptop's internal speakers are pathetic, but still work OK when I unplug the speakers again.

If I try the external speakers on a different (Dell) laptop, they work just fine. If I plug headphones into the Asus laptop speakers/headphones jack, the headphones work OK too.

So I am now just confused! My Asus laptop is suddenly OK with the headphones, but not the speakers?? There were no drivers to install by the way for the speakers to work. No problems show in Device Manager and all volume settings are at Max right now...

The laptop has Realtek HD Audio installed (and I run Windows 7 x64). Microsoft 'Fixit' (as recommended elsewhere here) found nothing wrong.

Help appreciated.

Thanks,

Martin

Answer:External USB Speakers suddenly not working on my Asus laptop

Sounds like a USB port power problem in the laptop. The laptop's sound works OK and the speakers work OK on a different PC.

As they are USB powered, have you tried a different USB Port? Is there any other USB devices also connected to the PC?

I am using the HP Advanced Wireless Docking Station (F7M97AA) with the HP Elite X2 1011.  I have HP external speakers connected to the docking station.  Randomly there is no sound.  I can see the indicator bar moving so i know it's working, but there is no sound coming from the speakers.  To solve the problem, i have to reboot the docking station, then the speakers work for a few days and then randomly no sound.  All drivers are up to date.  I've tested with other speakers and the same thing happens.  Any suggestions?

I just bought a new Logitech Z-560 set, which comes with 4 satellite speakers and a subwoofer. After connecting everything, the two rear speakers are only making a kind of hissing noise, while playing NO sounds at all. The front two speakers are playing music, which sounds bit distorted, but the subwoofer is giving off this loud annoying sound. It sounds like this deep bass sound that just won't go away, it's a constant deep bass sound. I connected the speakers to my sound card, which I believe is only 2-channel. Does 2-channel mean that I can only get 2 speakers to work, not 4? Any ideas why the woofer is making this annoying sound? I turned down the bass but it doesn't help. The front 2 speakers don't even play sounds clearly either.

Question: Internal Speakers

So i just got a dell xps 13 2015 model and everything works great but the internal speakers don't work. If I move my ear close to them they have a soft tapping noise. I've tried driver uninstalls and different drives but none of them made a difference. I think it might be the hardware of internal speakers are broken somehow. I've have external speakers in the past that have done this. Also the headphone jack works fine, headphones and speakers work fine on it.

Answer:Internal Speakers

Hello. The test for speakers is the ePSA audio test. It is a hardware test, which means that if you don't hear the tones during the test, then the speakers have failed, or the connection needs to be re-seated.
If the laptop is still under warranty, remove all media players except Windows Media Player before contacting tech support, or you could be denied warranty service on the speakers.

Question: Internal Speakers

Hi,I am currently building a low powered budget end desktop. It has 512mb of RAM and an 80gb hard drive. It's gonna be for my business and it just needs to be able to type things up, burn records on to a CD and read emails, hence it being cheap. However, I'd quite like to listen to the Radio via the BBC's online service, which is where we come to the problem... I don't like much clutter around my desk and for the 20 mins max a week the radio is gonna be on, I don't think I can justify having a set of desktop speakers. I can remember on old pc's I had years ago they had a little speaker mounted in the case for the "bleeps" and "pings". I'm thinking this would be ideal for listening to the radio low volume. Can anybody verify whether these would be suitable for the use? Also where would I get them? as you don't see them around so much anymore. Finally how would I connect them up as I haven't a clue. (I'd still like to retain if possible, the back speaker connectors and front headphone connectors and keep them "live")CheersAlex

Answer:Internal Speakers

The speaker in your PC does exactly what you say, beeps (for the BIOS) only. They connect to the motherboard by jumpers I think, but windows cannot use them. If you don't want wiresyour best bet is to buy a monitor with integrated speakers, these will suffice for your needs. Other than that, it's desktop speakers I'm afraid.Jake

Question: Internal speakers

Wonder if anyone can shed some light on this............
Just bought a zoostorm desktop pc but it hasnt come with any speakers, does this mean that it should have internal speakers and if so how would i turn them on as it isnt making any noise at all?

Answer:Internal speakers

I seriously doubt it`ll have internal speakers, except for the one that beeps when you boot the computer.

You`ll need to purchase some speakers. I recommend Logitech speakers, but it`s completely up to you.

Question: Internal Speakers

I have a problem with internal speaker crackling on some internet audio and video feeds.  This problem does not recur on external speakers, so must be a problem in the Yoga itself. Does anyone else have this issue and how can I diagnose the problem and try to reduce it, other than by plugging in external USB speakers. Thank you for your help.

Answer:Internal Speakers

hi rfin16,

You can try disabling the Audio enhancements

If that did not work and you said that the issue does not occur on External speakers or Headphone/Earphone, most likely it is a problem with the Speakers and I suggest you call Technical Support for Assistance.

Thanks,
Solid Cruver

When I use the headphone jack on my Qosmio G10 with an optical S/PDIF cable (Toslink) the internal speakers are not disabled, although the user manual (page 2-4) states they should.
They are disabled when headphones are used.
Is my notebook at fault or the User guide ?

Answer:G10 - internal speakers not disconnecting

Hello Jimac

You are absolutely right. The User?s manual says that the internal speakers will be disabled automatically and this information is right. Audio jack contains a small switch who disable internal speakers if the audio jack is in use.

I assume that this small switch is defective. Unfortunately it can not be fixed on your own. Just service partner can check it properly. I am pretty sure that the warranty is still valid. Call them and explain the problem.

Bye

Hi there,

My speakers in the Tecra M2 have blown, basically when I turn the volume up half way it screeches a horrible sound, and I can hear dogs barking in the background!!!

Where can I find some new speakers for it?
Had a look on ebay but they only seemed to have M1 speakers. Would these work does anyone know, or better still, a site where I can buy some from?

Many thanks

Answer:Re: Tecra M2 - Where can I buy new internal speakers?

Hi!

What do you think about contacting an ASP?
An ASP can order all original Toshiba parts and they can exchange the speakers for you.

I don?t know if the speakers from Tecra M1 fit in your notebook but you can ask this an ASP. On the Toshiba website you can search for an ASP:

I'd like to know more about the built-on speakers that come with internal modem cards.

A 33.6 Kb USR Sportster I have has a "large" speaker (about 1-inch diameter) and has good tonal qualities even at a low volume setting. I can hear distinctly the ringing and messages like "All circuits are busy now; please try your call later."

A 56.2 Kb Zoom I have has a "small" speaker (about a half-inch diameter) that sounds tinny and is barely audible even when the volume control (in W98) is set to high.

Do all internal USR modems have the large speaker and all internal Zoom modems the small speaker?

Do all larger speakers sound as good as I described above.

Do all small speakers as such sound so terrible?

The speaker issue alone is enough to push me towards another USR Robotics modem if the speakers on Zoom modems are uniformly bad and the speakers on USR modems are unformly good.

Answer:Speakers on Internal Modems

The speakers on the modems are not set. One model may have a different one than another. The same model may even have different ones if you buy them a few months apart.

It is a very minor part of the modem and the companies don't really seem to care too much about them.

The internal speakers in my Lenovo T61, running Vista Ultimate, will not turn on.  The speakers failed to turn on after using headphones for several hours.  The non-functioning speakers seem to be related to the use of headphones.  Headphone still work. The speaker button and the green line on the bottom of the screen are working. I have removed and reinstalled the sound driver, file 77a324ww.exe, from the Lenovo Support web stie. Can somebody suggest something else to try?Thank you, cgrasslMinnesota  USA

Answer:T61 Internal Speakers won't Turn ON

i can advise you to reinstall windows, and if that still doesnt fix the issue give the support people a call and tell them exactly what happened and they'll help you for sure.
