Windows mail email notification, small envelope in taskbar and new email chime

Question: Windows mail email notification, small envelope in taskbar and new email chime

but when I check for the new email there is no email to be found. If I click the envelope it takes me to the first email in my actual inbox and not in one of my sub-inbox folders. It has been doing this for awhile but lately it has been beyond ridiculous. I normally leave my email minimized in my task bar and maximize it when I get an email. Is this is known issue?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows mail email notification, small envelope in taskbar and new email chime

The first thing that I would do is to get the most up to date version. Windows Live Mail 2011 and see if that works any better.

I have been exploring this entire site (Windows help site) and can?t resolve my issue. I recently purchased a new laptop - with Windows 7 Home edition 64 bit. The laptop is a HP model DV6-1355DX.

I am running Office 2007 and unable to see any new email icon notification envelopes in the lower right of my screen. I have my "Advanced E-Mail Options" checked for "Show an Envelope Icon in the Notification Area".

In my Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Notification Area Icons, all of my behaviors are listed as "Show Icon and Notifications"

Any help to assist me with correcting my notified so I can learn when I have unread email is greatly appreciated.

Hi JAXSONJOHN and Welcome to SevenForums

Did you set your email up in Outlook so your account is showing, can you receive mail and send mail, just a couple questions. With this said you might want to post in Browsers and Mail forum where you'll get more expert info.

Folks,

I'm totally fed up with getting a loud chime whenever an email drops into my inbox. How do I shut off this intrusive sound?

I've looked in Settings/System/Notifications and Actions. There is no listing for my Windows Live Mail "app". So...that route is closed.

The Mail app has a gear symbol which supposedly lets you shut off sounds. I don't use Mail. I use Windows Live Mail. WLM does not have a cute little gear symbol. So...that route is closed.

How do I shut off this friggin' noise???

Thanks,
Ken

Edited: Crap. I found it. It's in WLM/File/Options. Sigh. "File"? Really?

Hello,

I just started using Windows Live Mail. I have it setup with gmail as my provider. I notice that there is a 5 to 10 minute delay/lag in the audio notification. This delay is after the email shows up in the inbox. I have set Windows live email up on a second computer and the delay is there too so it's not just one system. How do I get Windows Live Mail to give an audio notification as soon as the email shows up in the inbox, not 5 to 10 minutes later? Several times I have already read the email and then I get a notification sound and wonder what the sound is for. It's confusing to say the least.

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 laptop I'm using it on. Intel i7, 8 gig RAM, so this is not about a slow computer.

Thanks for any help! Much apprciated.

Hi

I am using an outlook 2003 for a POP email account.

The email address is [email protected],,,,,,,,,,,,,,,which is used as the primary email address

Then I needed to create another account called [email protected] and I used it on the same outlook 2003 as for [email protected].

I created a folder called : “COLLECTORS” within inbox and I created a filter to redirect emails to the admin from the inbox to COLLECTORS folder.
Now When I received new emails through [email protected], I would receive an New Mail Desktop Alert notification from the system try .

How can I enable or configure an New Mail Desktop Alert notification from the system try for [email protected] account ????

Thanks .

Is there a way to have the notification area envelope that Outlook places for new incoming mail NOT be shown when all that has arrived is Junk E-Mail? My Junk e-mail folder that is built into Outlook 2007 works great.  Filters almost all the junk perfectly, but because of that envelope it places by the clock, I am constantly checking and deleting spam all day long.  I waste a lot of time doing this, but there is no way to know if you have real mail in the Inbox without actually opening up outlook.I wrote a macro to mark all mail in the Junk E-mail folder a "read" whenever something new arrives, but that does not remove the notification area envelope.I have searched the web far and wide to no avail.  With the ubuquity of Outlook in the work place I wonder how many million if not billions of dollars of lost productivity this causes yearly.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Outlook Notification Area Envelope w/ Junk E-Mail

I'm using Outlook 2003 but I'll mention something that seems relevant.  If I open Tools, Options, and click on the button named Junk E-mail, the Options tab of that panel has a checkbox for "Permanently delete suspected junk e-mail instead of moving it to the Junk E-mail folder".  I haven't tested how enabling that feature affects Outlook's behavior but I'm wondering whether it would stop Outlook from putting notification in the tray.  Seems logical but, again, I haven't tested it.

I didn't notice this before today. I'm running the 64 bit version of Windows 10 Pro, fully up to date, as well as the latest version of Windows Live Mail. I have a bunch of storage folders that I've created for email, so my actual inboxes are pretty much always empty as any mail I want to keep gets put into a storage folder.

When I do a search inside the program, all it's searching are the email subjects, not the actual contents of the messages.

Any idea how to fix this? I know this was an issue in the 64 bit version of Windows 7, as seen here.....

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/969165

.....but I'd have thought this would have been fixed by now! Is that fix still valid for Windows 10, or is there another solution? I really don't want to have to switch to another email client if I can help it.

Thanks!

Answer:Windows Live Mail only searching email subjects, not email contents

I have been having the same trouble, which was just noticed...
Windows Live Mail does not search "contents" of messages anymore... just searches names and message subject line.
Hope to find an answer as I hate to switch to another mail client, but I absolutly need the search functionality.

Windows 8.1 Mail app push email notification for Outlook account stopped working yesterday (it was working for one year). I haven't changed anything. Note it stopped working

I have an email I get on a regular basis that I can see who it's from and the subject line but the body of the email is blank. I have problems with it in WLM but I can view it just fine in web mail and from my iPhone. Not sure if it's an issue on the end of the person who's sending it or an issue with WLM but since I can view it completely in web mail and on my iPhone I would think it's something with WLM. Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Answer:Body of email not showing in one particular email in Windows Live Mail

Hi, I finally was able to talk with someone from the place that was sending the email in question I was having issues with. They found out their emails are not compatible with WLM but are working on a resolution. I'm not sure what kind of email service they're using but it's not like WLM is some obscure mail client. Anyway, I'm marking this as solved even though I've received a few emails from them since and still having the issue of nothing in the body of the message. Now that they've figured out what the issue is I hope they fix it soon.

I'm having trouble with appointment notifications. When a new appointment/meeting request is sent, it is going to my email (editor of the calendar) and does not go to my boss (owner of the calendar). I'm wondering how to change the recipient of these appointment/meeting requests. Any help is much appreciated.

More detail:

When a co-workerer creates a meeting in calendar and invites my boss, I (his executive assistant) get the email, but he does not. This is obviously a problem as he would like to know when new appointments are made without having me report in to him every time a new one arrives.

I keep receiving emails addressed to another person from a friend of mine, even though they are not addressed to me. When I looked at the properties of the email, I noticed that the Reply To:, the To: and From: fields are all correct but right down at the end, my email address appears in the Envelope To: field.

Anybody got any idea what causes this or what is this Envelope To: field?. Its got me baffled.

Sometime in the last week or two I noticed Outlook's little yellow indicator for new email is missing in the taskbar.
When a new email arrives, Outlook plays a sound but does not display the yellow envelope. It will also display a Desktop Alert if asked to do so. I don't ask.

Here is what I have done:

1. Right clicked the taskbar and chose settings/notification/select which icons appear on the taskbar/Microsoft Outlook you have new unread email messages. That is ON.

2. In Outlook, chose File/Options/Mail/Message Arrival checked Play a Sound and also Show an envelope in the taskbar.

Windows 10 version is 1607 Build Number 1607 14393.693
Office 2016 version is 1611 7571.2100.

I will really appreciate any help here.

Hi Geniuses:
I wanted to throw this out to you to see if there was a solution to my "inbox zero woes"

TECH SPECS:

Yahoo Email address (yes I know)
iPhone with Outlook App
Mac Computer with Mail APP
Extra Gmail account with a "send gmail from account"

What I found was that while on the road (most of my email use) the Outlook App for iPhone was fastest at fetching mail, and I LOVE the interface (ability to snooze emails, archive etc).

Problem is, my home mac with MAIL doesn't play nice when I archive Emails on my app.
Secondly, I also like to use gmail as a web client for searching files, using todo etc.

My question: can all of these play nice in the same sandbox? Can I archive on one device, and have it translated amongst the others? If not, what are my solutions (switching over to outlook on Mac? Just using a GMAIL address from now on). Would love some light / insight on this.

Many, Many thanks!
-Bryan.

Hello!

Answer:Why is my email app only showing 1 email (latest) in inbox (Yahoo! mail)?

Did you receive 1 mail in the last 7 days ? If you go into settings, click on sync settings. In there the default option from Download e-mail from is 7 days. So any mail that has exceeded 7 days will not appear. Check what is your setting.

Since the original release of Windows 10 I've had a periodic problem with the Windows Notification icon in the system tray.

I use Outlook 2010 as my email client however I have the built in Windows mail client set up so that I can received email notifications as I like to quickly look at the icon to see of there are notifications and to quickly scan the email subject to determine if I need to sit down and actually open outlook and download my email.

What happens periodically is that the notifications simply quit showing up. I have checked the notification center and Email appears on the list and is turned on. I have also went to the settings for the mail application and have found that notifications are turned on. That being said, a few minutes ago I I clicked on the mail application and there were 4 emails in the list however there wasn't a single notification showing up within the notification icon.

Now each and every time the notifications quite showing up something happens to trigger their return but thus far I have not been able to determine what it is that gets turned off and what it is that mysteriously turns it back on. It seems to me this has something to do with how frequently Windows is polling my email providers server for changes but that's just a thought as to what the issue is. Has anyone else seen this behavior and been able to determine what the issue is and how to fix it? Thanks.

Answer:Windows Notification Center not showing Email Notifications

I've seen this behaviour, but I haven't been able to determine the root cause. Like you say, you receive no notifications in the Action Centre/Taskbar icon to inform you that you've received new emails, but when you open the Mail app to create a new email for example, there are new emails just sat in your inbox. The problem is when I try to reproduce it to figure out what's happening, it then starts working correctly. Until the next time...

Although I have Outlook 2010 installed, I don't use it anymore (with 'Mail' being set as the default email program) and I'm using Outlook.com as my only email provider. Therefore, as the same problem happens to me too, I don't think the problem is due to your email provider or Outlook 2010. Instead, I think it's possibly due to a buggy Action/Notification Centre. In addition to intermittently not receiving email notifications, I also receive calendar notifications for items that I deleted from the calendar some time before, so I personally think the whole lot needs sorting out.

Just out of interest though, if you go to Windows Settings > Privacy > Background Apps. Do you have 'Mail' listed there as a background app?

While I am using my laptop (Yoga 500), there is often a notification chime and if I am typing, the cursor disappears from the screen. There are no messages popping up, so I am not sure what the laptop is doing when it makes this noise. I have checked what the sound means, and it is just the default for my laptop, so it could be anything! Does anyone have any idea what this might be?Thanks!

Me too, cursor freezes momentarily with  each chime. It's driving me crackers as I hear it even with the sound muted. Hi etwelper32,

I'm wondering if there's an email program which is configured to check for emails on a specific time, and because there seems to be an issue with which file is needed to open / run it, it's causing that error message.

Just throwing some ideas out there, but is there a chance that you do have something that does in fact check for emails on a scheduled time? If so, then post back for additional.

Hi all,Is there a program, preferably freeware, that will inform you of new email awaiting downloading.Thanks.JW.

Incredimail offers the service you require and is freeware. The program has a cartoon butler who appears on screen and announces "You have mail sir" whenever an email message arrives.

Hi,
I started using DynAdvance email notifier for notification of my Yahoo mail and apart from lack of sound it was working fine. It then stopped notifying and when I opened the programme and selected read mail instead of signing me in it took me to the Wrong user name or wrong password page. I resubmitted my details but to no avail so I reinstalled the programme, again to no avail.
I then tried half a dozen different email notifiers but each one malfunctioned in one way or another. I am wondering if I have inadvertently corrupted the registry when doing a scan for registry issues. I have done a system restore as far back as I can but no change.
Has anybody any ideas what I can do to solve this problem?
I am using Windows XP and IE8.
Regards Alex

I would be grateful if someone could explain if or how I can receive notification when emails arrive. I use an email client (eM Client) and if it is open I do get notification of the arrival of emails in both of my email accounts (GMX & Gmail).

Hi guy's, I've just yesterday changed from AOL to Zen ISP, so for the first time using Outlook Express. With AOL browser I was notified immediately if mail arrived, and just clicked the mail Icon to read.I've set O/E up correctly and everything is working fine except for one slight problem. From tools/options in O/E I've set to "Check for mail" every 5 minutes with sound. But while browsing through IE6 I don't seem to hear this notification, so unless I click on the mail Icon from IE to check for mail, I don't know if there is any waiting for me.Once I click on the mail Icon, then "Read" from the drop-down menu, the sound is played and mail downloaded instantly. Is this the correct way of the system working, or am I missing something. Sorry for this apparently basic question, but I have been cosseted by AOL for the past three years. :o(Many thanks. j.

Question: email notification

For quite awhile now the sound that used to play when I would get an email has not sounded at all.

On opening sounds I see the selection for email is not there anymore.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Howie

Answer:email notification

Hmmm.   I'm in Win 7 right now, so I can't check instantly.   HERE,  I go to the Control Panel, to Hardware and Sound, to Sound, to Change System Sounds, and somewhere along the line I see "New mail notification."  Which is apparently essential to producing music, or some sort of BLEEPppppp! on my system ninety-eleven times per day.

I gotta admit, I'm an inferior person, a nonentity, a mere semblance of a real human being.  I just don't pay a whole lot of attention to the sounds that come out of my computer unless I'm watching a video or something.

I'm not the guy  to solve your problem, you understand.  However, I'm very fond on poking at things.  So.  Click your mouse on "new mail notification" (or anything else if that one's missing) and then go down about an inch and click on "Test."

Was there a sound?  If not, pick something else ("Critical stop" is probably a good one) and see if that can make a sound.  If everything seems dead, go back up an inch or so to "Sound Scheme" and change what you've got to something else -- it's been my experience that the default Windows sound for most events is silence, so maybe you'll find something interesting.

Failing that ... click on the speaker icon on the bottom right of your monitor, see what the volume level is for "System Sounds."

You're hearing sounds from other things, right?   It's just the email that b... Read more

I have a couple of problems with Vista Windows Mail.

Problem 1:-

In some of my email folders (about 5), I have realised that ALL emails have now taken on the same message body. It is like Windows Mail has overwritten all messages with one random email that existed in the folder. The Subjects, timestamps, addresses are normal/individual, but every email has the same body/message. They used to be individual emails in these folders, but now it is the same email over and over again.

Problem 2:-

Some emails give me the following message when I click on them: It is happening to ALL emails in 1 or two folders.

Message could not be displayed - Windows Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.

I hope someone has encountered this problem & knows how to fix it. I have emails dating to 1999 & wouldn't want to lose them because of Windows Mail.

Thanks for reading.

Lately, on starting a new subject for discussion in Helproom, I sem to have stopped getting the usual default email notification when responses are posted- and yes, I do leave the little box checked! The Forum Moderator tells me that he has "no idea" why this has happened - so I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on the problem.

Answer:Email notification of postings

There are lots of graphics and links on the emails when a notification arrives, your ISP could be blocking the notifications thinking its spam, try going through to your ISP and enter the web mail page and check in options if the spam filter is switched on, if it is switched on, switch it off and see if that works.

Hello....I have been receiving a bunch of "returned" email notifications stating that my emails that were sent weren't received for various reasons (mailbox full, blocked, etc.). I recently upgraded Internet Explorer and have been receiving these emails ever since. I don't know if this is coincidence or not, but it's the only thing I can think of. First of all, I was wondering if everyone else has recently updated IE and has had this problem, if maybe the update was a hoax and I fell for it, or just unrelated and I have another problem? My problem basically is this...I NEVER SENT OUT ANY EMAILS AT ALL!!!! I don't know if my email address has gotten connected to some mass sending or what. No viruses show up when I scanned my PC. Anyone have any thoughts on what it might be and how to correct it. Other than posible spyware, it doesn't appear to have any effect on the computer. Just tired of the email notifications.

Welcome to Majorgeeks!
We frankly can not tell what the problem is without doing the following:

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThisMake sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
CounterSpy
AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
Bitdefender - from step 6
Panda Scan - from step 6

Answer:Solved: notification email

Do You mean Read Receipts ?

To configure read Receipts in Outlook,

Click on Tools/Options/Email Options/Tracking Options, you can then configure the read receipts how you like. Each machine on your network can be set to automatically send a notification (read receipt) once the mail is opened.

You can also set it to ask the user if they want to send the read receipt, but it is probably better from your Boss's point of view to have each machine configured to do it automatically.

It seems to have started after updating Opera to it's latest version...at least I never saw this happen previously. If I select this website, or any other from SpeedDial, it displays the website normally. But if I select a email notification link, it takes me to the appropriate location, but not logged in as it should, and the favicon is something that I don't recognize, as can be seen below. What is going haywire, and how can I fix it?

EDIT: Even after logging in, the favicon doesn't return to it's usual design.

Answer:Email Notification Links

The favicon on the tab on the right is a private browsing icon. Right click the tab bar, and the 2nd choice is New private tab, and you'll see that icon.

Somehow your email notifications are opening in a private tab. Try this, open IE and make it the default browser.

Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options. Click the Programs tab, and then click Make default. Click OK, and then close Internet Explorer.

Now make Opera the default browser again.

Go to Settings > Preferences > Advanced > Programs. Tick the checkbox for Check if Opera is default browser on startup. Next time you start Opera, answer Yes when the dialog asks you if you want Opera to be the default browser on your computer.

See if that has fixed the association. A Guy
