Preferred Solution: Memory card slot not recognized on printer

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome sannallett,
Sounds like a tech support answer. What is the Brand and Model of the printer?
In Device Manager under your Printer is there a notification sign?

I bought an HP Laserjet CM1312 printer, and it has memory card slots on the front, but no USB slot.

Do they make any adapters that would allow a USB drive to plug into one of the many memory card slots on the front? (MS, CF, etc.)

Thanks.

Answer:USB to Memory Card Slot Adapter for Printer Available?

Highly doubt it, as the ones that are the opposite have a controller of some sort built in to change the data so USB can read it.

After a recent failed HDD format I had to reinstall XP and downloaded Tosh drivers, not having access to my original restore disk as I am working abroad.

The secondary memory slot now is not recognising any DDR's, i'm trying to upgrade to 2G, any suggestions?

Answer:Satellite P30-145 secondary memory slot not recognized

Hi

Did the second slot recognize any different memory modules???
You could definitely upgrade the memory on this notebook up to 2GB!
So a single slot must be able to recognize a 1024MB module.

I would suggest checking firstly the module compatibility because there could be either a motherboard (slot) malfunction or you trying to use not compatible module.
We have to eliminate one!

In my knowledge this notebook supports PC2700 DDR-RAM and the 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G) module should works!

Hello folks,

I have an HP Pavillion model a1123c running XP Media Center Edition version 2002 with SP3 installed. I had an issue with the system recognizing my DVD drives, so I ran the CDGONE regedit utility to get the system to recognize my DVD drives. All is well with the DVD drives now, but I can not use the memory slots on the front of the system.

Whenever I insert my SD card, the system does not recognize it. The SD card works fine on other systems. I am able to see memory sticks that are inserted into the USB ports without issue (if this matters).

Anyone know what might be causing this issue?

Thanks

I am upgrading an older Hp m8000. Already put a brand new Corsair 750 watt PSU in it and it still wont recognise any of the 3 pci-e video cards I have tried. I have already went into the bios and changed the videos settings to pci-e and still nothing. Is there only certain video cards that are compatible with this thing or what. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much

I disable PCI Express slot in Computer Setup -- Security -- Slot Security on BIOS. I doesn't know that my onboard card wasn't working, and now,  machine doesn't start, machine beeps 6 times (video card error). I can't access the bios. I try reset CMOS, removing the Green Jumper, removing the battery, press CMOS button for 10 seconds, press power button (to remove remain energy. But nothing this works. Someone can help me? How i can reactivate PCI Express x16 ?

Answer:Video Card not recognized in PCI-Express x16 - Slot Security

Hi: If your onboard video adapter doesn't work, and resetting the CMOS doesn't work, you can try putting the PCI express x16 video card you have now into the white PCIe x4 slot (the white video card slot next to the black PCIe x16 slot), and see if you can get into the BIOS to change the PCI x 16 setting.  It might work in the x4 slot. If that doesn't work either, then you will have to install a PCI video card (one that goes into one of the white PCI slots) and use that to get into the BIOS so you can change the settings to enable the PCIe x16 slot. So, see if you can find a cheap, used, PCI video card on eBay, and that should allow you to have video again. You also need to make sure you have removed all connections from the PC when you reset the CMOS (all cables, power cord, mouse, monitor, etc).

I own the w520.  I want it to have two internal network cards in the two minipci slots.  the laptop came with one wireless card in the half-size slot, it works fine there.  Previously, I had a SSD in the full size slot that worked fine.  The problem is that no wireless card will work in the fullsize slot.  It does not matter if it is on the whitelist or not.  Heck, I even moved the halfsize one that came with the computer to the fullsize slot with a bracket and the network card was not seen by Windows there.  What can I do to make the fullsize minipci slot recognize a network card?  Please help!  Thanks in advance!

Answer:No network card is recognized in W520 full size minipci slot?

You may want to try using Access Connections to access it and see if that works.

You can download Access Connections here if you need it:

Let us know if that works.

"The card supplied was not recognized. Please check that the card is inserted correctly, and tightly."

I ran some updates on an employee's computer and now when I start it up, I receive this error if the aircard is in the PC Card slot. I understand it's misinterpreting it as being a security card or whatever the case may be but I don't understand why or how to remedy it.

Anyone with a similar experience or that can shine a guiding light?

Hello: First time on the Forum. Edge E220s running Windows 7 Professional. A few weeks ago, the multi-media card slot just stopped being recognized by Windows 7. I insert a card in and - nothing. No light, no whirrs, no clicks, nothing. I have tried several SD cards, all of which worked previously and which still work fine in my camera. They also work when inserted in a stand-alone USB-connected card reader., so the cards themselves don't seem to be the issue. Control Panel/Device Manager shows no yellow exclamation points, It's as if it was just no longer physically connected. I did have an attempt at a battery replacement done at a reputable local shop recently, but don't think the lack of functionality coincided with that repair. I say 'attempt' at battery replacement because there seem to be TWO batteries for this model, and the only one I could find locally (Toronto ) was the wrong one - rectangular, rather than square-ish.  I hope the one coming from China is the right one.  I digress.... Any clues as to where my SD card slot went? Oh yes - the BIOS update (hujj05ww.exe) mentioned in another post, which I thought might fix the SD card slot issue? Error message - "This process does not recognize this system." Thank you in advance for any assistance! Jim

Answer:ThinkPad Edge E220s multi-media card slot not recognized in Windows 7

Just asking the question seems to have provided the answer. Just for fun I tried it again and now it works! I swear it didn't before. Still wondering about the BIOS update, and why there could be two totally physically-different batteries for what appears to be exactly the same model number of computer! Cheers, Jimjimkenzie wrote:Hello: First time on the Forum. Okay, I did something really stupid. It was late, I was in the dark, and I wasn't paying attention (obviously) so here's what happened...

I had a SanDisk 2GB Micro SD Memory Card that I was using in my cell phone.
I wanted to transfer some pics & photos from my computer to the phone, so I decided to stick it in the Express Card slot of my laptop. Simple enough, right?

....Well being the incredibly smart person that I am, I put the micro memory card in the adapter, but it was the wrong one. So my computer pretty much swallowed it whole. I can't get it back out.
Now I can't use the Express Card slot in my computer AT ALL, because the old one is still stuck in there. You can't really see it, but if you try to put another adapter in there, it won't "click". It won't go all the way because ... the old one I lost is still in there waiting to be rescued, haha.

So my question is: How do I get the memory card out of my computer??

I tried taking it apart, but I couldn't get the part of where the express card slot is, so that was no good. There's a way to do this, I know. I'm just not smart enough to figure it out on my own. Which is probably a good thing, because I might mess it up again, lol.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7416 laptop.
Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

-Ashley

I added an Epson WF-3640 printer several days ago. The printer has a USB slot and a memory card slot. Several associated, network problems arose.

1. I had flash drives in both of the two available Netgear Nighthawk USB ports. The network had designed those drives as Z and Y.

2. Remarkably, after installing the Epson, the network named the Vacant Epson memory card port Y.

3. (Not realizing this at the time) I inserted a flash drive in the Epson's USB port. The network named that drive Z.

4. I unplugged the Epson, rebooted the computer and the router with the following results:
a. When I reinserted the flash drives into the router, although the router's corresponding status LED's light up, explorer does not see the drives.
b. If I plug either of the two 'router' flash drives into the computer explorer sees them.
c. Despite the Epson still powered off, the router and computer being rebooted twice, explores still sees the Epson memory card as drive Y. Clicking on or attempting to disconnect the memory card apparently just confuses the OS (screenshots attached).

My easiest solution although not preferred is to buy an Anker powered 9 port USB hub and forget using the router. However, that still leaves the problem of the 'phantom' Epson memory card appearing on the network as a drive?

Answer:Epson Printer Mem card slot will not delete

Don't delete the Epson Memory Card Reader , Windows just finds it again....

Windows has MAPPED it as a Network Drive , just RC on it and Choose Disconnect , with luck there is a checkbox to also uncheck called Reconnect at Logon/sign in (or something like that)

You can also in Disk Management assign Drive Letters to any flashDrive/CD Drive/External Drive etc it Finds and windows will remember those Assigned Drive Letters each time you plug them in. Eg I always make my CD/DVD Y: and Z:

It may take some time for the Router to Find and "tell" the network the Flash Drives are there and usable again. I am guess they were not plugged into the Router when you plugged in the Epson ? as Windows should not of allowed drive letter changes if they were plugged in, if they weren't plugged in the windows just cycles through available Drive letters , unless you have defined them as above.

I recently bought a digital camera and the Fujufilm 256 Digital Memrory card (SD card) does not fit the slot in my computer. The computer is Dell Dimension 5150C, bought this year.Dell at the call centre did not understand the query, and Dell at the email site says that maybe the card is not compatible. The card is a stabdard one on sale throughout the UK.Could the slot unit be faulty? How can I prove it is so? Any advice welcomed. Many thanks

Answer:SD memory card doesn't fit slot

A Secure Digital (or MMC) memory card has a cut off in one corner and you have to be careful it is inserted the correct way. However, also make sure that you are using the correct slot of the four available (according to the specs).

Hi everyone,

6 Months ago I switched on my desktop PC after a long aircooled night, noticed that my case fans (actually two of them) are running extremely fast and the PC keeps rebooting before reaching the OS screen. Condensed humidity was transformed by the air conditioner into a complete water shower! I unplugged the PC and dried it out using an air blower and let it dry near the window for about an hour, then turned it on again, and YES! everything was working fine! felt very happy as I survived the catastrophe, and returned back to the normal daily use of the PC, but of course without using ANY air cooling in that room again!

2 Weeks ago, I got a defect in my motherboard: one memory slot is malfunctioning (the PC never boots with that slot occupied). I emptied that slot and currently using the other 3 slots only, and resumed using the PC.

Hello, I have an A31p with two 512mb cards  (one in each slot) but it only shows 512mb total memory.I've tried swapping the cards between slots 0 and 1, and also tried removing the slot 1 card, and always end up with 512mb.I've run the PC doctor utility that comes on the laptop, but I haven't found much more info there.I assume this means there is a hardware problem with slot 1.  Any ideas of how to fix this?If there is no way to fix this, can I use a 1gb card in slot 0? Thanks in advance...

Answer:A31p only detecting one memory slot - is 1gb card ...

Welcome to the forum! One RAM slot going bad is a faily common problem on ThinkPads of that generation, the most affected one being T30, but I've seen it on A31/p, X30 and T23 as well...now, to the answers: a) You can install 1Gb DIMM in your A31p. Mine all have 2x1Gb and work great. b) You can also try putting additional pressure by applying a thin piece of paper between the DIMM and the slot itself, or putting a post-it or two between the cover and the slot. c) There are companies which do this type of motherboard repair, I  have heard good reviews about hammershead tech. Hope this helps.

(NEWBIE/FIRST POST)
I just purchased a brand new Lenovo 110-151BR (Model 80TT) Computer from the Best Buy retailer yesterday (October 4 2016).  Everything works fine so far except the computer Memory Card Slot (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC) does not recognize any of my personal SD/SDHC Cards.  All the SD/SDHC cards are valid and working due to the fact that my two older computers recognize the same identical SD/SDHC cards with no problem that I am using on the Lenovo 110-151BR (Model 80TT) Computer.  I currently have all the latest Windows 10 software drives installed.  Is there a driver I can download off the internet or from the Lenovo support area before I return this brand new computer back to Best Buy?

I FINNALLY figured it out; here is the fix:As of October 5 2016 - Problem Resolved.  The Lenovo 110-151BR (Model 80TT) Computer is set-up and configured differently than most computers on the market by other manufactures. When you insert the Memory Card (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC) into the Lenovo 110-151BR (Model 80TT) Computer socket ? you must insert it ?upside-down? in order for the Lenovo 110-151BR (Model 80TT) Computer to properly read it.  Most other computers by other manufactures ? you always insert the Memory Card (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC) right-side up with the Memory Card (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC) top text/main-side facing you.   But Lenovo wanted to be a little different I guess. Well anyway ? everything is working fine (no additional drivers needed) ?. again just simply flip the Memory Card (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC) over/upside-down and insert. ok, so im at a hotel internet cafe in brazil, and i notice that below the normal floppy drive (external 3.5"i assume) there is another slot, which is occupied by a memory stick reader. this reader services Memory Stick Duos, something called CF, SD cards, and something called SM, 4 cards in total, with a button on the other side of the CF one.

i plug m memory stick duo adapter in with my Memory Stick Pro Duo inside, and i cant find it on my computer. there is a light that is labeled as "Access" on the top, and it doesnt blink when i plug it in.

any idea on whats wrong, and if this could be a software fix? i could change that on this computer if needed.

also, anyone know how to change the language on a Windows XP Professional computer? its in spanish and i will operate better in english

Answer:HELP: Memory Card Readers in External 3.5"slot

Sounds like a hardware problem to me. Make sure everything is connected okay and try a standard memory stick.

As for the language:

"Select the appropriate Menus and dialogs language from the Regional Options applet in Control Panel. The Menus and dialogs drop down list will display all the installed languages."

ok, i was bored and got some homebrew for my ds, but i needed some files off my psp memory stick, and couldnt be bothered to charge it as its dead and i cant find the charger, so i thauhgt "ill try it in my laptop sd card slot reader" and after a some moments later, bang!! autorun pops up, with the memory stick icon on it, all the files are accessable aswell

now my question is, HOW DID THIS WORK!, i looked in the slot and the pins are much to big/spaces to fit all the pins on the card. everyone know theres a size difference between sd and memorystick. how did it work, i didnt think there were duel sd and memory stick readers, all the usb ones if seen have seperate slots. this is bugging me, as it shouldnt, that and i have to get it in just the right place to get it to work, it doesnt seem to fit snug in the slot.
any idea on how the hell this is working thanks

I have a Toshiba A135 S7404 running Windows Vista Home Basic, the max memory upgrade is 2X2GB which I purchased via newegg.com and installed. When I turned it on, black screen and no boot up. Basically it will only reconize one 2GB of memory, doesn't matter what slot as long as it is only one. I tested both memory chips both work in the computer and in either card slot, just not both chips in both card slots. What the heck?????? Even stumped the Geek Squad guy at Best Buy, he seemed to think it the mother board issue. It runs much better on the 2GB then it did with the 512MB, cha. Computer should be able to run both 2GB card in each slot and reconize about 3.25 to 3.65 of the memory, if it would run both cards at the same time. ** I did upgrade the BIOS from 1.6 to 1.9 as most of the blogs suggested-still won't recognize the 2nd 2GB card.

Answer:Toshiba A135 2nd card slot, no memory recongnition

cant find your lappy on toshiba site , same thing happened with me and was the bios update i needed so re check its the correct update
have you tried 1x2gb and 1x what you took out??

(NEWBIE/FIRST POST)I just purchased a brand new Lenovo 110-151BR (Model 80TT) Computer from the Best Buy retailer yesterday (October 4 2016). Is there a driver I can download off the internet or from the Lenovo support area before I return this brand new computer back to Best Buy?

my sandisk memory card from my digital camera will not work with my laptop for some odd reason,, i have a dell inspiron 6000 with windows xp,, it actually comes with a san disk slot , there was a time 6 months ago where it would work but now nothing ..

when i put the card in the slot it makes the chime that its been put in but i cant get to the card through my computer , or find it anywhere ..
it doesnt even give a message saying the driver is not working properly or something

please help

Answer:Sandisk memory card will not work in my laptop , but i have the slot for it????

you might have to wait a little bit.

Sometimes, when I connect my camera to my computer it takes about 30 seconds for it to read it and pop up. Especially if I have the whole thing packed with RAW's.

Try connecting your camera to your computer instead of using a card reader.

I was wondering as I've got 2 spare slot Mini PCI-Express free on my laptop, if such Intel Card (ITM) could fit inside...This technology is quite not expensive actually.

The mini PCI-E is very ease to access under my keyboard and it just have to be inserted, and at system reboot, Windows7 will recognize straight that card and the proper Intel Turbo drivers.

It does act like "Windows ReadyBoost" & "Windows ReadyDrive" under 7 and Vista...so the system will load faster....boost the disk cache, load faster Apps & perform battery improvement.

Work on "Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset familly" & "Mobile Intel 4 Express Chip Familly".

-1 gb (RD, RB, no software pinning),
-2gb (RD, RB, no software pinning),
-4gb (RD, no RB, software pinning).

Any experience in return? or it is just like inserting a SD Card in the Card Reader to Ready Boost?

So in February I ordered my kid an inspiron 11 as first computer. Later I decided to upgrade the memory and I called Dell and provided my service Tag. Dell told me it had a 2GB memory card and I could upgrade to a 4GB card. I ordered the card and disassembled my computer to find there is no slot to upgrade. After an hour on the phone I find out that what I am looking at is one with a fixed memory module. I told them that per my service tag it is supposed to have a slot and be upgradeable. They told me there is nothing they can do.
So I say how bout you exchange this for one that has what I ordered. They say since its over the 30 days there is no way to return or exchange. I said even though its your fault ???
Am I being unreasonable ? All I want is what I ordered. After a few more calls to India One person finally tells me there is a first and second generation of this laptop. Ist gen has the fixed and the second has the replaceable. So I tell them that per  Dell tag  this is supposed to be 2nd generation and therefor it was built wrong. They again say " we have a 30 day no Hassel return " and your over that.
Any suggestions folks ? I'm sick of beating my head against the wall with these people

Hey,

I really need some help with how to remove my Memory Stick Pro DUO from the card slot.

The laptop has read the stick fine and I can see all the files in it however I can't seem to get it out. I've tried to push it in a bit to make it pop out but this doesn't work and it's also quite far in so I can't pull it out.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite A100 - How to remove Memory Stick Pro DUO from the card slot

Hi

In my knowledge there is no additional help for Memory Stick Pro DUO removing like on the PCMCIA slot.
You should try to pull it out. If you don?t manage to pull it out with you fingers you could use a pair of tweezers.
But be careful.

Hi there,

I need some help.

I recently upgraded my P100-MA6 to Vista Home Premium 64-bit and everything is running perfect and I have located software, drivers, and such for every component except the built-in SD memory card slot!
It will not work at all and I can't seem to find a driver or controller that I need for it to run/recognize my SD cards.

Can anyone point me to the proper driver for this component to run under Vista 64-bit O/S?

Is there one?
If not, can someone let me know that this is an issue that has no solution?

I know it seems odd, its the last thing I need to do for a completely perfect upgrade!

Specs on the laptop are:

Intel Core2 T7200 2.0ghz, 4GB pc-5400 OCZ ram, 200GB HDD, Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 gpu, Vista 64-bit O/S,

If you need any other specs just ask!

Thank you in advance to whoever reads this and may be able to assist me!

Regards,

Paul

Answer:Re: Satellite P100-MA6 - Need driver for SD Memory Card Slot using Vista 64

Go into Device Manager and look in the Properties of the Unknown Device, click on the "Details" Tab, and look at the Hardware ID's.

Then use this website to identify the device and locate the drivers:
http://www.pcidatabase.com/

You may need to use drivers found in google if you cant find the Vista64 driver from other Toshiba models.

Hi, this is my first time on here so forgive me if I don't give all of the right information, I will try.  Until about a month ago my dvd player and SD memory card slot worked fine.  I was attempting to download pictures from the SD memory card to my laptop when for some reason it not only stopped reading the memory card but it erased it also.  I tried to watch a movie on it to see if it was working and it is not.  I checked the computer to see if I could manually turn it on and neither the memory card slot or the dvd player show up at all.  Is this a driver problem and if so how do I fix it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Linda

Memory Card Reader connected via any USB port on my PC running on 32-bit Windows 7 appears as an USB Device in "Device Manager" and as an ICON in "Devices & Printers" but does NOT appear in "My Computer" or "Disk Management" with an assigned driver letter! I have tried various solutions to similar problems reported by others in this Forum as also other Forums, such as technologynext, social.technet.microsoft etc. but none worked for me!

Can someone please offer me a workable solution? Thanks!

Hello, I have just gotten a T61P with a Smart Card Slot.  Is it possible to replace this with an Express Card Slot? I have looked at the parts lists and can see no differences in Motherboard or Bottom Case part numbers for a 6457-8LU ( which I have, and has a Smart Card Slot ) and a 6457-8Jx ( which has an Express Card Slot ). Looking at the FRU Manual, it looks like an involved process to get to the Card Slot, but I think I could handle it.  ( Electronics Tech for more years than I like to think about  :-)  ) Any input would be appreciated! Regards Michael

Does it matter which PCI-E X16 slot you use? My board has 2 full X16 slots and I want to run my GTX590 lower down in the case to move it away from my soundcard.

Here's my board

Also does anyone have any experience running sound cards ect. in full size PCI-E X16 slots? they obviously don't engage the clips on the socket but do they still work?

I've never had reason to try either of these configurations and my computer is in pieces ATM while I'm upgrading it so I have no way to test for any problems but everything I've read on the subject so far says there shouldn't be any problems with either of afore mentioned configurations.

Answer:Re: Satellite M60-104 PCI card Slot or Express Card Slot?

Did you take a look into the user manual?
There are all the details about the M60 series.

But as far as I know the M60-104 unit supports the Cardbus 32-Bit/PC-Card 16-Bit slot.
So you could use 1x PCMCIA Type-II only and 1x ExpressCard.

I've got a memory card slot on a Canon Pixma printer that I cannot access from Win7 64 bit. I _used_ to be able to see the memory card on the printer since it would show up under the network listing on the left pane of windows explorer. After doing a large number of program updates several weeks ago, I no longer see the printer memory slot. The printer shows up as a printer device, but no memory.

Any ideas on what to check? The memory card reader is confirmed working and visible on an XP computer and a win7 32 bit.

Hello rcwagner, have your visited the Canon site to check for 64bit drivers for the printer? I had to for my aging HP printer, although with fewer features.
Is the printer directly connected to the X64 machine?

Answer:Question about PCI-e slot below dual slot video card

My opinion ...

Yes, setting up like that will have an impact. The air flow to your GPU will be restricted so it will more than likely run hotter than it did. It may still stay withing recommended specs, but it will run hotter.

The motherboard has onboard sound (Realtek® ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC ), any particular reason why you don't use that? Onboard sound is perfectly good for gaming and the like now, its not like older machines where you needed a dedicated card for decent quality. In my opinion, you only need a dedicated card if you are doing a lot of detailed audio work (mixing, remastering and other specific audio work). This would totally remove the issue.

Hey guys,

Recently bought this card from BestBuy to be installed on my current mobo. When the card is placed in the top x16 slot it is not being recognized and i'm not getting any display. Hey Guys,

This is the follow up thread to my previous post here where I identified my graphics card was not working in the x16 slot, only in the x8 slot. I tired different methods to troubleshoot but nothing seemed to work so I basically gave up.

Thorsen had advised I purchase a Motherboard PCI-E PCI Express 16X Slot Test Card Tester which I finally did but unfortunately it did not come with a manual or any guide as to intrepret the lights being shown. So here I am now asking if any can provide some insight as to what the card lights are telling me or any other help as to determine why my card is not working in the proper x16 slot. It works well in the x8 slot in terms of games etc I haven't had any problems so far but I still would like it to be in the x16 slot.

Here are my items for reference :

Motherboard
Graphics Card
PCI tester
Attached are pictures of the lights being shown. Any other information needed please let me know and thank you guys

hi there,
i need to know which know which graphic card will fit for my computer. Ie i want to know which type: DDR ,DDR1 or ddr2 i bought my computer in 2007, but thats not enough to tell.
so please let me know how do i know which pci slot i have?

Answer:which graphic card slot do i require for my PCI slot

The type of memory doesn't matter, its the type of interface the computer supports among a few other things to watch for.

You likely have a PCI-Express slot, as long as it a x16 slot it doesn't really matter if its a version 1.1 or 2.0 slot.

Is this for your Dell or another computer? Whats you budget and what needs do you have for the video card?

When there are USB issues such as yours, one of our local heroes, John Will provides this solution:

"First step, Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Create a restore point and name it something like "Before USB Fix". This is to bail you out if something goes wrong during the following process and makes things worse.

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG

Hello,I have an IBM S51 Think Centre that I scanned through Crucial.com to find out how much RAM I can install in the computer. Crucial scanning revealed that I could go up to 2 gigabyte total (1 gig in each of the two slots). I purchased the two 1 gigabyte chips from Crucial. I installed the chips, but the computer only sees the 1 gigabyte chip in the yellow primary slot, but not the other 1 gig chip in the black secondary slot. I also have another S51 IBM Think Centre, so I installed the new Crucial chips in my other S51, and both chips are recognized. This confirms that both chips are good. I put the original RAM chips (two 512 chips) back in, and noticed that the black RAM slot was not recognized - I thought the computer only had 512 total, but it looks like it should have had 1 gig total. So, it appears that the black RAM slot was not being recognized all along. My questions are: Does the black secondary RAM slot need to be enabled in some way, so the system will "see" the other 1 gig chip? What steps should I take to get the black RAM slot recognized, or does the motherboard have an issue.    Thank you,Mike

Answer:RAM not recognized in secondary slot

You might want to download this program, "CPUID CPU-Z." This program can tell you whether the slot is working or not. If the slot is working, then it will show your RAM (and its spec). Also, it will tell you whether it is functioning as single channel or dual channel. CPU-Z Make sure you download, "CPU-Z 1.53 setup" located at the far left column. After installation, check under the taps, "Memory" and "SPD" and under "SPD" you will see at the left slot #s for your installed RAM. Hope this helps.

Hi,
I used to be able to just plug a camera photo memory card into a slot in my printer and see the photos via a mapped network drive (Z: ) on my laptop (my laptop and printer communicate over wi-fi). I can still print over the wi-fi network, but the mapped network drive disappeared a couple of days ago. If I try to map it again it asks me for a username and password, but the printer has no username or password (I tried my laptop username and password but it didn't work).
I contacted Epson, but they just said it must be a microsoft problem. Does anyone have any idea what I can do about this. Any diagnostic commands to try?
Thanks,
Abel

My brand new Edge 11 (2545-3RG) that supports Max 2x2GB=4GB RAM was delivered with 2GB RAM in SLOT-0 (FRU 55Y3716, 2GB PC3-10600 DDR3-1333, which is the default, according to the hardware maintenance manual and the information on Lenovo Support site). In order to upgrade to 4GB Dual channel, I put an identical second 2GB stick (also FRU 55Y3716) in SLOT-1.The following happened:-  BIOS recognizes that 4096MB are installed.-  Win 7 x64 reports in System Properties that "Installed memory (RAM): 4GB (1.75GB usable)".The size of the usable RAM, 1.75GB is 2GB in SLOT-0 minus 256MB allocated for the graphics.- Windows applications can only "see" and use 1.75GB - Special utilities, such as Speccy, do "see" both modules.Speccy reports Total Memory Size as 4096MB. It is also supposed to display some detailed information about the memory in both slots. The information about the memory in SLOT-0 (here called Slot #1) contains, as expected, all details about Manufacturer, Part number, Serial number etc. However, the detailed information about the memory in SLOT-1 (here called Slot #2) is missing! Not even frequency in Max Bandwidth field is displayed! The bottom line is that the memory in the second slot (SLOT-1) is unusable. To avoid speculations, there is 100% guarantee that all memory sticks are in full working order. Has anyone else had this problem? skylark

Answer:Edge 11 memory upgrade failure - 2GB PC3-10600 DDR3-1333 memory in the second slot is unusable

I have experimented a lot and found a temporary workaround. If  you keep the original 2GB PC3-10600 DDR3-1333Mhz in SLOT-0 and put instead 2GB PC3-8500 DDR3-1066Mhz  in SLOT-1, suddenly the second stick is correctly recognized everywhere, and everything works as it should. As a curiosity, the opposite doesn't work at all and the laptop won't even boot!Even if this workaround does work, the core issue still remains.Lenovo, please provide a response to this hardware issue! skylark

I am running windows xp pro, I had installed sp2 and found usb problems. In trying to fix the problem I accidentally deleted the port the printer was using, the "virtual usb port". I have recently removed the sp2 from my computer which helped in other areas but my printer is not being recognized by anything since deleting that port. Does anyone know how I can get that port back. All other usb devices work fine, scanner mouse keyboard ect..With power on to the printer it shows "printer not responding" or "printer offline". The printer is a cannon s9000. If it helps I am running a Abit kt-7a raid mobo, 1.4ghz amd athlon, win xp pro build 2600. I thought of installing xp on top of the current install but wasn't sure if i'd make things worse..Any help greatly appreciated.

I have an 8GB sd card i used while traveling and upon trying to get the pictures from it the computer does not recognize the card at all, no prompts, nothing. I have tried it in multiple pcs and macs and no response. My Cannon Rebel XS camera says no images found. However, when I plug it into my brother's Cannon PowerShot it actually recognizes and shows all pictures on the card. Does anyone have any reason why this is happening and how I can recover the pictures? I am not willing to just format to make the card work again, I must have these pictures.

Have you tried leaving the card in the camera and attaching to the computer to d/l the pictures that way. I have an Olympus camera and the pictures will d/l fine with the card left in the camera.

I can't get my new laptop to recognize my old Kodak 500 Photo Printer as a printer. It shows up as a "device" instead, and so I can't print to it. Has anyone else had this problem and found a fix?

Answer:Kodak Photo Printer not recognized as printer

What driver did you install? There is no Win 7 driver on the Kodak site for your printer but the Vista driver should work. There's also a firmware update that you may need to install but you won't be able to do that until you get the computer to recognize the printer. Kodak Photo Printer 500

Can't find propper card reader driver for my laptop. Please help to find!!!
Toshiba Satellite P200d-12z (bought in Sweden)

I tried to istall the following drivers/software from Toshiba official website:

-Flash Cards Support Utility
-Flash Media Driver
-SD Utilities

But it doesnt work anyway, cannt recognized my microSD anyway.
What should I do/install?

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Answer:Satellite P200D-12z - Card Reader driver needed - SD card slot issue

Did you install a generic version of Windows? You need to install the AMD chipset driver first, so other PCI devices can install properly.

What is the size capacity of the SD Card?
Are you running XP? You may need to install Service Pack 3, or a Microsoft hotfix for SDHC support.

Is there a special way to open the wireless card slot on a Satellite L30 or do i just have to use a USB wireless adapter..... because the slot is there but i cant open it and the USB one is annoying.

thanks for the help....

Answer:Satellite L30 - How to open the Wireless card slot to upgrade the Wlan card

Hm,

there is no special way. Just 2 screws..
So, if you have a mini-pci wlan card, then you can open the cover, insert it and use it. But be aware from loosen more screws than needed. :)

And if you?re not able to open it, then you will have to use your annoying usb-adapter. ;)

We are upgrading to the T410 from previous T series Lenovo's. Our users are finding their Verizon PC Express Cards don't really "lock" into the slot. And slight touch or bump while using the laptop and the card slides out enough to show it as being removed in windows. Users are resulting to taping the cards to keep them in place. Anyone else deal with this yet?

Hi,

I have read the rather thin manual, and I can;t find any info on the card slot. (other than where it lives on the laptop)

Could someone please tell me how to insert my smart media card? the slot is huge and i'm worried about losing the card inside the laptop! I'm presuming the smart media will auto run?...

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Satellite P200-1FZ: How to insert the smart media card into the card slot

Would be nice to know what notebook model you own.
But, normally, for smaller cards, you will need an adapter which is often included, like for the memory stick pro duo.
I think it is just normal sized and you have to put in the middle of the card reader slot until you hear a click sound.

If you have not changed autorun settings, you should get a new window with the files on your card, when putting it into your notebook.

Lately, My laptop is very slow in recognizing my usb stick, or my Hard drive (usb 3.0) or my sxs cards through my express card slot. It 's also slow in recognizing my sd-cards through my card reader. I have a very fast laptop. A lenovo W530.

I just started a while ago, and I can't get it to recognize faster . Everything else works just fine and fast.... but it takes up to 4 minutes to recognize these things.

Can somebody help?

Answer:Laptop slowly recognizes usb stick/sd card/xpress card slot

Hey tidri. 2 things come to mind if it previously worked. One is a reinstall of all the drivers for the mobo, and the other is a full AV/Malware/Rootkit scan. If everything checks out, a full format and an OS reinstall would be my third move.

I have thinkpad w530 w windows 8.1 I am trying to capture video footage into my computer using a firewire card that of course plugs into the MEDIA CARD READER SLOT. I can't get the computer to recognize my camcorder- the camcorder connection does not show up in DEVICE MANAGER I am using HDVSPLIT to capture the video and also in hdvsplit there is a message, "camera not recognized" or something like that.  I am not sure if the media card reader is bad, or maybe the firewire card is bad or maybe it is the hdv split that is the problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Answer:How do I tell if my Media Card Reader/Express card slot is functioning correctly?

Hello,

Could it be the ExpressCard slot that the FireWire card plugs into?  I've never seen a FireWire card that plugs into the media card slot used for SD Cards.

FireWire cards can be a little tricky to get working sometimes, especially when interfacing with a camcorder.

Have you checked with the manufacturer to see if Windows 8.1 drivers are available for it?  Even if they are not, it may be possible to use Windows 7 or even Windows Vista drivers.

Once you have verified that the FireWire card is recognized, plug the camcorder in again, amd see if it gets recognized.  If it does not, check with its manufacturer for Windows 8.1 drivers, just like you did with the FireWire card.

At that point, the hardware should all be working with Windows 8.1.

Regards,

Question: Printer PCI Slot?

I am looking to build a computer soon, first time. My question is how I would connect my printer? On my computer now there is a PCI slot with a card in it and the printer connects through that. Do I have to buy one for my new computer? Or is it possible to connect it straight to motherboard.

I am purchasing this motherboard.

Cheers

Answer:Printer PCI Slot?

Does your computer connect through usb or the parallel printer port? If it's usb then that new motherboard is fine, if it's parallel then you'll need to get another pci card, or just take the one from the existing pc!

Hi,I'm interested in buying this Lexar 133x SDHC Card:http://lexarmedia.com/products/lexar-professional-133x-sdhc-card?category=213Basicallyl, I want to use it as another storage drive (as opposed to putting in my camera or other device).  So after I insert it, I want to be able to format it and use it as another storage area.  Would this card work? The reason I'm gravitating to that card is that is that I see in the specs that is minimum 20MB/sec read transfer rate and it does not take up one of my USB slots. However, even if it does work, would I be better off with their Echo ZX plug-and-forget it USB drive when they ship it?:http://lexarmedia.com/products/lexar-echo-zx-backup-drive-0?category=90If both work, which would be faster as a storage drive? Thanks.

It is a SDHC card so it should work on the card reader of the W700.

Hey everybody, I'm new to this community. I just got an E520. I already read the thread about this graphic card problem. So I was wondering if there is something new about this graphic card? I updated my system via the Thinkpad update program. Should i update the AMD driver? The current driver version is: 8.811.1.5000 I can config and load the ATI control panel but when i go to config the screen and choose the display resolution i also can click on extended setup. when going into this area only the Intel HD graphic card is selected, not anything about the ATI. with which program can i control which graphic card is currently running?i know i can also just choose one graphic card in bios, but i want both cards are working.so is there a possibility that i can just deactivate the ati graphic card when using battery mode? How can i open the express card slot at the right side?I couldn't find a button or something to press to release the plastic so i can insert a 34mm express card. And the last question, when i booted the computer for the first time i saw that in the task manager are about 100 processes, that doesn't seem normal. I mean i know there are a lot of Lenovos own software working in the background, but on my old device i had about 50 to max 70 process running. When i open the task manager i don't even see all process which are running, the task manager only lists about 40-50 processes not more. any solutionwhich proces... Answer:E520 Graphic card + express card slot + too many processes

hey Munchkin86,-AMD driver, install the latest one one if the current version which you have on your unit is causing issues.-The E520 comes with Intel HD Graphic card and thus the ATI Control Panel will not work accordingly.- for the express card slot, just press it and the plastic holder should pop out. Also, refer to this : http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/0a60536.pdf- on the part of the processes, depending on the OS, software and drivers installed, having 100+ or so processes is possible. Rule of thumb, if it does not affect the performance of your unit; leave it alone.

Hello all, I just got a T400 yesterday.  Is it just me or does anyone else notice a rattle coming from the PC Card/ExpressCard slot on their T400?  Is this normal?

Answer:T400 PC Card/Express Card slot rattle

Hi, I just posted about the same issue and then noticed your posting :-)Did you ever resolve this, it is in the area near the PCMICA slots. My father also has a T400 and I'm going to ask him to check his.   My post:I received my new T400 yesterday  :-)   Overall it looks very nice, but I did noticeone thing I'm concerned about.  There's a slight rattle coming from insideappears to be near the PC slots when holding the closed laptop withthe screen facing down.   If I tilt the laptop from side to side I can hear somethingmoving inside, sounds like a piece of plastic or something similar.  Has anyone elsenoticed anything like this ?  I'm just hoping its not a loose screw or something floatingaround in there. Message Edited by mwhite8 on 08-06-2009 01:37 PM
