Lose Bluetooth connection when laptop goes into power save!

Question: Lose Bluetooth connection when laptop goes into power save!

Newbie!
I am re-opening the thread on Bluetooth Mouse loss when coming out of power save as I cannot find any solution to this, or mention of the situation I have!
I have a Toshiba Sat Pro running Vista Home Premium 32bit with Toshiba Bluetooth Stack, Logitech 5000 mouse & keyboard.
This problem has only recently started & must be the result of a MS security download!
When I come out of power save I noticed that my Bluetooth icon was static, when I checked the Bluetooth settings I found it was showing Bluetooth as enabled, I then set it to disable & then re-enabled straight away and got my connection back, (this also affects the keyboard!)
Maybe this info will generate an idea regarding the problem.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a brand new HP laptop that came with Windows 10 home installed on it.
I have downloaded and applied all updates from MS.

I use a Wi-Fi connection to my Time Warner router.
I have everything setup and things seem to be running fine.

Here's the deal.

I thought I would try and use my blue tooth external speaker. (Just to see what would happen.)
Sooooo.

I enabled Bluetooth.
Start\Settings\Devices\Bluetooth.
After I move the slider (so the status reads (On), ....

I see a message that reads "Your PC is searching for and can be discovered by Bluetooth devices".

Two things happen:
The "search" never seems to end.

And I lose WI-Fi connectivity.

I finally, move the Bluetooth slider to the "Off" position and my Wi-Fi connectivity returns.

I "do" see my external speaker.
And it does work. (As long as "Bluetooth" is enabled.)

But of course, I then have no Internet connectivity and THAT becomes an issue for me.

Any ideas or suggestions as to what I may need to do, would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:lose wifi connection when enabling bluetooth. Any fix ?

The first thing to do is check for driver updates, and make sure they are the correct drivers for your hardware. Bluetooth/Wireless drivers are usually downloaded as a package, so it might make sense that they effect each other.

I don't use Bluetooth so I've disabled the driver in device manager (with the hope of improving battery life) as I can't find any other way of turning it off.

My question is does doing this help? Does disabling the driver turn off the radio or is it still using power but just not available to use?

Answer:Does disabling bluetooth save power?

All you need to do is just to turn the bluetooth off to stop it from scanning which drains the battery.

Edit..
Ooops... I missed the part where you said you can't turn it off. What device is it?
If it is disabled there is no way it can operate in any way.

I am having serious issue with another laptop (used for church work). I turned the ACER on,
had a noise, screen remained black, and power went off. I removed the battery, waited, turned it
back on-same result. This laptop is not under warranty. and is only used with a church application
software. The laptop is always plugged in, but with power off. Only used once a week for an hour. TIA.

Answer:lose power on laptop within 5 seconds-black screen

1. What kind of noise? A beep, hiss, grinding...

2. So you never see a thing on the screen? If this is true, the video chip might be gone.

3. If a computer shuts down, 90% of the time it is due to a heat issue. How old is the laptop? Has it ever been cleaned of accumulated dust?

i just got a laptop 2 days ago with Vista (dont know if this is a Vista question or not). When i start my laptop, i have a fine wireless connection. then when i close the lid it all goes into hibernation, ofcourse, but then when i open the lid later, not only is the connection gone, but the laptop will not even recognize my Linksys router & wireless - which is only 3 feet away! i have to restart the computer to get a connection again.
ive called Gateway 4 times and i get a different response everytime i call - one just told me a MUST reinstall windows in order to fix it. Even Lisksys gives me different answers everytim i call too.
Vista has alot more settings and little petty nuances than XP. is there a setting i have to make for the wireless to be recognized after hibernation?

I'm an old Windows XP guy on my desktop who is struggling with Windows 8 on a new laptop. My current issue is the fact that each time I turn on my laptop I have to reconnect to my wireless network. I have to go to my settings and than to change PC settings and go though a series of steps to get it re-set. When doing the initial set up I did set the wireless connection as always on (or what ever the wording was). What do I need to do to keep the connection.

I run Vista Home Premium on my Dell Inspiron Notebook. Something that is a recent problem in the last few weeks; often when I have to hit the power button to wake up the notebook from sleep mode (hibernation), I lose the internet connection, but still have local connection. I disconnect and try to connect but can't, but when I reboot it automatically reconnects fine to local and internet. I say often, as sometime after a short sleep it is still connected......

Have checked all settings and everything seems fine, but maybe I missed something. This never use to happen. Only change I have made I can think of is I installed COMODO firewall a few weeks back......about the same time I recall this starting.

My wife's PC with Norton Internet Security always gets the internet connection after wakeup without problem. The two computers are not networked but use the same wireless router.
The only other thing I did was stop Superspywareblaster from opening at startup so I could just use it to scan occassionally. I also run Nod32.

Any ideas as I am a bt baffled by this glitch?
thanks,
G

Hello everyone,

I've been fighting with my ISP for months over this, but it just might turn out that they may be telling the truth for once.

Basically, I have an unlimited mobile 4G plan with three SIMs, each of which is in a 4G Android phone, the hotspots of which I use alternately as and when needed.

In our household are two desktops and three laptops, all running Windows 10 Pro, and one laptop running Lubuntu.

In about November 2015, I started noticing that my connectivity speeds would drop from multiple gigabits per second to an average maximum of about 512kbps after a certain amount of data (usually two gigabytes downloaded and uploaded) has been consumed within the respective 24 hours; speed would go back up to 4G levels the moment the clock hits 12:00 AM every night. The throttling affects all machines and all SIMs.

I took on my ISP with this, and every agent I ever talked to said that they don't have a fair usage policy in place for subscribers of unlimited plan - in fact, that one of their marketing points; they even say so on their website. They firmly denied the implementation of a fair usage policy even after I showed them screenshots of the moment the connection speed dropped.

I even tried running YouTube continuously on my phones for a stretch of time to see what happens, with YouTube's autoplay feature turned on, and, indeed, I noticed that after a while of running videos at 1080p, I could barely run any videos at a resolution higher than 144p.

Answer:4G WiFi connection drops to 512Kbps after waking form power save.

you should check this out https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/928152 - hopefully it gives you more ideas, if not a direct answer

also, you could check off the button "allow windows to turn off this device to save power" via device management to see if it helps you at all.

When an 802.11 wireless network adapter that is set to use power save mode wants to enter a sleep state, the adapter indicates this intention to the wireless AP. The adapter does this by setting the power save option in its packets or in the 802.11 frames that it sends to the wireless AP. In this scenario, the following behavior should occur:
When the wireless AP receives the frames that have the power save option set, the wireless AP determines that the client network adapter that sent the frames wants to enter a power saving state.
The wireless AP then buffers packets that are destined for the client network adapter.
When the radio of the client network adapter turns on, the client network adapter then communicates with the AP to retrieve the buffered packets.
This behavior enables the wireless network adapter to use less power and to wake up periodically at the correct time to receive network traffic from the AP.

If the wireless AP does not support this feature correctly, the wireless AP continues to send packets to the client network adapter even if the client network adapter radio is turned off. Therefore, these packets are lost. In this scenario, the sym... Read more

I have an identical phone to when I was able to connect b4 I lost it.
I would have expected to be able to connect with no hassle but to no avail.
The laptop recognises my phone and vice versa.
The message when trying to connect says "there was a hardware failure in the modem or other device".and......."Could not detect modem,it may not be in use, turned off,or not installed properly"

I`ve tested the modem and it`s working properly so I wonder if anyone can help.

i have tried multiple times to set the "event" for the power manager to sleep when laptop screen is closed.   It defaults back to no action every time! Very frustrating to close laptop and come back hours later with dead battery because it failed to sleep.  This is a T430 with windows 7.

Answer:power manager for T430 does not save "events" for closing laptop

Hi, rischarjm

Have you tried using the setting in Windows under Control Panel ? Power Options? You can also set events here for the behavior of the computer when the lid is shut.

Hope it helps,Adam

I'm not sure this is the right place to post this but I'm just going to guess that it is.

I recently upgraded my desktop from 7 to 10. I used to connect my laptop (already using 10) to my desktop via Bluetooth and it allowed me to select the desktop pc's speakers as audio output, effectively mixing both computers' audio through my headphones attached to the desktop. This is no longer something my computers seem to do; literally all that has changed is that I upgraded the desktop OS and I would have assumed this is something windows10 can do but the Bluetooth menu is almost comically unhelpful.
It used to be relatively easy to do this in 7 but I am at a loss as to how to do this in 10. Is this functionality somehow not a part of Win10?

I just purchase a z70-80 with Windows 10, and I installed VMware WorkStation with Ubuntu running inside it. The screen lock comes up after a few minutes even though I am running development tools in the VM. I went to display settings, and in Power and sleep and modified the screen turn off and sleep to 45 minutes. But that did not resolve the issue. I would like to have the screen up indefinately. What setting do I need to adjust please? I do not know if it is a sleep mode, or the screen saver, or something else. I hope I am describing the issue with the right words.

Hi everyone, I've been trying to use a Logitech ultrathin touch bluetooth mouse and microsoft sculpt mobile bluetooth keyboard with my ideapad. I'm running Windows 8.1.  Both work fine for a while but then it appears they lose the bluetooth connection. This seems to often coincide with access network/internet over WiFi. The only solution is to call up the Bluetooth manage devices setting and let it reconnect.  If I leave the manage bluetooth device page open on a second screen it helps, but clearly its not ideal!  I was running the Lenovo driver for Bluetooth but I've tried removing it and using the Generic Windows driver to see if that helps.  So far though the same happened after a short while. Any ideas? Many thanks and apologies if someone else has answered this query previously. Simon

Install the bluetooth driver that came with the computer. Windows update probably updated the driver automatically. The new drivers are garbage on the Y2P. Once you install that driver, disable any Windows update pertaining to that driver.

Hello folks,

my name is lynn. I have been told on a different forum that my laptop does not have bluetooth on it. So, i went and bought a bluetooth adaptor made by targis. It is a usb device. I have it installed with all drivers. I have a bluetooth iblue 737a+ gps receiver; again, all drivers installed on my laptop for it. For some unknown reason, my computer sees the bluetooth adaptor, but refuses to see the bluetooth GPS receiver. I have had it up at Office depot all morning since i bought the adaptor there, but they could not figure out the problem either. The receiver can be seen when connected via a usb mini cable, but the program i wish to use it with, microsoft streets and trips, requires i use it with bluetooth and not a cable. The adaptor doesn?t see my Windows Mobile phone either. I know the GPS and phone are working properly and fully charged because they see each other and I can use my GPS program on my phone with no problem. . I am out of options and/or ideas. Can anyone suggest anything else i should try? I do have an account on msn and would be happy to voice or video chatg there if someone needs to explain something lengthy to me. Oh, and i am blind so use a screen reader to operate my windows 7 lalptop, but that should not have any bearing on figuring this confounded thign out!! :)

thanks, lynn w.

I don't even understand what you're saying......PCI-E is the next step in graphics interface.......it's replacing AGP....there are socket 939 AGP boards, those are Nforce3 chipsets and PCI-E is nforce4.........You don't 'lose power' by upgrading to a better CPU and system....then it wouldn't be called 'upgrading'

Hi All,

I have a Dell 1750 laptop running a wireless connection and also have a desktop running the same in my computer room. I have Hight Speed Internet service. I'm using IE9 and started having problems with losing my browser (web page) but still maintaining my network connection (both wireless and direct connection). This is an intermitent problem with the web pages unalbe to connect to different pages but later I was able to connect to those pages. However, I never lose my network and wireless connection.

It's very frustrating having to wait several minutes to reconnect/reach those web pages. I've optimized and cleaned temp and other junk files up but still have the same issue.

I also tried using Google Chrome but will have the same issue.

Any help or recommendations will be appreciated.

Answer:Lose IE9 Connection - still have Network connection

Hello Shadow4845 and welcome to Seven Forums.

My usual disclaimer: I'm not an expert at anything! It sounds like this might be a hardware acceleration issue. Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced tab. Look under Accelerated Graphics > "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering". If the box is unchecked, try checking it. (Or if it's checked, try unchecking it.) You'll have to restart your computer for the change to take effect.

Please post back and let us know if this helps or not.

Hi

Due to the sudden power off, your C drive file system got corrupted. In most cases it can be fixed by running check disk in C drive from XP recovery console. Follow the below steps.

(If you already know how to boot in to the "Recovery Console" , skip in to the step 7. )

To start the Recovery Console directly from the  CD you would do the following:
Insert the Windows XP cd or recovery console CD in your computer.

Restart your computer so you are booting off of the CD. (change the boot order in BIOS - f10)

When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press the R button on your keyboard to start the Recovery Console.

The Recovery Console will start and ask you which Windows installation you would like to log on to. If you have multiple Windows installations, it will list each one, and you would enter the number associated with the installation you would like to work on and press enter. If you have just one Windows installation, type1 and press enter.

It will then prompt you for the Administrator's password. If there is no password, simply press enter. Otherwise type in the password and then press enter.

If you entered the correct password you will now be presented with a C:\Windows> prompt and you can start using the Recovery Console. (Since your C drive is corrupted, it may not asks for logging in to C:\Windows)

Question: lose connection

every time i use out look exp to send mail i lose the internet connection after it sends. i have a gateway with windows. thanks for the help

Answer:lose connection

What kind of connection do you have? It seems that when I used to be on dial-up there was a setting in OE to disconnect when finished.

Try Tools...> Options....>Connection and see what's checked there.

Periodically when surfing the web using my cable modem (Comcast), I lose my connection and need to re-boot. As soon as I reboot, everything is fine.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to this occurring... it sometimes even happens in the middle of downloading a file... it will just hang in the middle of the file, and I'll need to re-boot and try again. Or, I can just be surfing and it will stop in the middle of a web page.

Any suggestions for how to resolve this?

Thanks!

I keep getting kicked off of the internet, it seems to happen about once every 15 minutes or so and I can't figure out why. I don't know if I'm losing the connection or what but it just freezes and goes through the whole program not responding/end now protocol and shuts down internet explorer. It gets rather annoying while surfing to have to restart ie so often. The problem probably stems from some antivirus that my mom put on here and messed up a few different things on my computer, however I have sense removed that software and gone back to my old antivirus but this problem still persists!

Can anyone help me?

Hi all, The problem I am having is that my connection will suddenly disconnect and leave me with a blank screen, or say that it is restarting which it does. Does anyone have a solution to this. I found this on another site but have not tried it. I trust the advise I get here more than any other. Here is what I found: There seems to be a bug in IE 7 which causes your Internet connection to drop out every so often.

Technically what is going on is that IE 7 seems to be corrupting the DNS settings. You can still ping an IP's and Surf by IP IE7 just won't fully resolve DNS.

Fix:
Or one that seems to work for me is to open IE 7 then click on "Tools" and then "Internet Options". In the dialog box that opens click on the "Connections" tab at the top. Look toward the bottom of that box for "LAN Settings". Now check the box that say "Automatically Detect Settings". Click "OK" to close all boxes.

So if you have a answer to this please advise.

good morning, hoping someone out there is smarter than me & doesn't mind helping a newbie. Im smart but am learning as I go on pcs. In the last week or so, I keep losing my net connection ( cable) and no loss on modem, router. It was reconnecting within 1 min or less. This am, it required a complete shutdown, power off, on modem, router. I think, someone is doing this to me, cause they are mad at me. Can old bf, knowing my ip be targeting me someway with something? How can I see via logs? etc. I run avg (free ) and spybot. Avg doesn't find anything. Spybot does, says it removes it. BTW, I HAD bought the windows one care, did not like it, wished I had not spent my money on it. So if anyone can recommend something good to security, they cannot tamper with me. And also, where to see these logs? hijack logs? and how or what to do if something is fixed. Also, on this cable, it shows where I am .can I do anything about that? If I go back to dsl, it did not show my ip as being in my acutal town, which I liked better for security reasons. Help,

Im sitting here looking at the motherboard on a Presario V2000 that belongs to my son's friend. The power plug pulled loose from the motherboard and he had it repaired at a shop near where he used to live. They soldered on a pigtail from the motherboard to a generic connector that he plugged the power supply into. Well, there was nothing to hold the pigtail in place but the solder and it pulled out again. I'm reasonably handy enough to re-solder the wires, but I need to get the polarity right. There is no indication which terminal on the motherboard connects to the inner and outer terminals of the power supply. I havent been able to fnd a schematic for the motherboard to give direction. This is for a 20 yr. old kid who cant go out and spend a bundle to fix this. Can anyone help out here?

A couple months ago my laptop took a fall off a low table while charging and landed right on the power plug in the rear. Now the plug is extremely finicky. I have to spin the plug around and put just the right amount of pressure in a certain direction to get a solid charge, otherwise the power blinks on and off rapidly or is just completely off. The power has blinked on and off so quickly that the rubber around the plug and the plastic on the computer has melted a bit! I tried taking the laptop completely apart to make sure the plug was still soldered to the mobo, and it appeared to be.

I may have to just bring it in to a computer repair shop. This will be the very first time I've ever had to bring a computer in to a shop, so I want to see if anyone has any ideas before I bring it in. Thanks.

Answer:Spotty power connection on laptop

There is clearly some physical damage. Without seeing it in person it would seem difficult for anyone on the internet to assess the damage accurately. Taking it to the repair shop would be the best course of action, IMO.

Hi there,
I'm having connection problems with my Samsung R60 plus, the battery doesn't hold it's power anymore but I think that should be resolved if I buy a new battery (it is about 2 or three years old now) but the power chord won't charge my laptop at all unless I hold it at a certain angle, which is getting harder and harder to find.
This problem has happened before and I bought a new adaptor which solved the problem for a few months but now it's started again.
Does this mean that the jack inside needs replacing? Is it worth doing if so?
Thanks for the help again, I really appreciate it.

Answer:Laptop power connection failing

If you can hold the plug steady in the computer and only move the cord around to make and break the connection, then another power adapter may solve your problem.

If you can hold the cord steady where it enters the back of the plug and moving the plug around in the computer's socket makes the connection come and go, you may have a broken solder joint on the socket or the socket itself is broken.

A broken solder joint may be easily fixable by someone who knows how to safely solder on motherboards and can take the laptop apart.

A broken connector may be more difficult to replace because they come in many different sizes and configurations. A repair shop might recommend replacing the entire motherboard.

Hello everyone,

Since a few days, I'm encountering a rather annoying problem on my desktop PC. My keyboard (and other USB items) often does not work upon start-up. I can use it to go into BIOS, but it stops working when I have to sign into Windows. Note that these USB items work fine on my laptop. Sometimes they do work upon start-up, but lose power after an hour or so. Trying to restart takes forever ('shutting down' screen takes about 15 minutes before generating a BSOD - DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE - details in ZIP).

I've also uploaded a printscreen of device manager (sorry for the Dutch). No exclamation marks for USB, however I do see one exclamation mark next to video controller. Not sure what this is. It says the drivers are not installed (Code 28). I'm not even sure what hardware device this concerns.

Further info: the USB legacy option in BIOS is enabled.
My next and final attempt would be to reinstall Windows, as nothing else has worked so far and I'm not quite that IT savvy. In other words, you guys are my last hope (:

Answer:BSOD. USB ports seem to lose power.

Hi jensdev,

You are running an ASUS Product ID on an ASRock board.
This makes your installation counterfeit.
Troubleshooting a counterfeit installation is useless as it is not known what has been modified to your system.
A counterfeit installation contains heavily modified code which causes the system to behave in unexpected ways.
For this reason, analyzing counterfeit systems is unreliable and most analysts won't try it.

Code:
Fabrikant van besturingssysteem: Microsoft Corporation
Configuratie van besturingssysteem: Zelfstandig werkstation
Type build: Multiprocessor Free
Geregistreerde eigenaar: xxxx
Geregistreerde organisatie:
Product-id: 00426-OEM-8992662-00173 <-- ASUS PID on ASRock board
Oorspronkelijke installatiedatum: 18/08/2013, 21:01:35
Systeemopstarttijd: 30/10/2015, 15:12:15
I recommend to install a genuine copy of Windows.
If, after you have installed a genuine copy of Windows, you still get BSOD's we'll be happy to assist you.

Recently I've notice that while either writing an email(Thunderbird) or on the Internet(Firefox), the screens dims down and loses the color and sits there for about 30 seconds and then switches back to my desktop and I lose my email, if writing something, or closes the webpage I was previously on. I am still with Ubuntu 7.10. A window then appears telling me that it is Not Responding. Why is this happening now and what could be the causes of dropping the connection? Anyone?

Answer:Lose Internet connection

Dimming means "busy".

I'm not sure if I can answer your question, but maybe provide some insight.

When Ubu launches a background process, like installing new software or performing an update, the screen fades out during the install to prevent you from doing anything at that critical time. So that's what's going on there.

If the system is "greaying out" while doing online stuff, I suspect Ubu is trying to install some app/resource, failing, and crashing your program.

I don't use Thunderbird myself, though I don't know what Firefox needs that Thunderbird might share.

I'm in Windows at the moment, so reply to this message and I'll jump into Linux to see if I can be of more help.

(BTW: I'm using the 64bit Ubuntu 8.04, so my results my vary.)

Answer:lose of internet connection

You can try right click on the network connections icon on the task bar and then click repair and see if it solves the problem. In the event that it doesn't, unplug your modem and router if you have one, wait a couple of minutes then plug them in and reboot and see if the problem is solvedIt's a common problem and seldom malware related.

I have a ton of spyware/malware on this laptop I am trying to get cleaned up. Everytime I run AdwCleaner to get rid of all the toolbars/spyware, once my computer restarts I can't connect to the web via my Wi-Fi connection. I am thinking that it may be deleting an integral registry used for internet connection or something around those lines but I cant seem to find any info anywhere. "seems I have a problem removing a virus called Zero Access"Yep, that is what I suspected.Your computer has/had some serious infections with rootkit/backdoor capabilities. Backdoors provide outsiders full access to your computer, enabling them to record key strokes, steal passwords, spread malwares, and even using it for other illegal activities. If your computer has been used for important or sensitive data such as online banking, shopping or any other financial transactions, I strongly recommend you to do the following: Disconnect from the Internet and any network immediately. Inform your financial institutions that you may be a victim of identity theft and to put a watch on all your accounts or change them. Change all your online passwords from a clean computer. Take any other steps that you may think is necessary to prevent financial distress due to identity theft. How to report ID theft, fraud, drive-by installs, hijacking and malware?http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10451I can still clean this machine, but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. Intermittantly lose connection after 1 minute or 2 hours. Difficult to regain connection. In fact it intermittantly re-connects itself without me doing anything sometime. Network adapters, ISP, and modem all working properly when problem occurs. Computer won't recognize the connection for some reason. Resetting network, getting new IP settings won't solve the problem. I also un-installed all programs I recently obtained. ISP provider tested all their end of it and said it's most likely my computer. Dell Sudio 1737 with Vista Home Premium 64bit. I have a similar problem as "Lose Explorer connection after about 1min." (same?)

I run a small home network with 3 machines behind a router. I started getting this earlier this week on our Windows XP machine. I thought it was a cabling problem at first.

If I do an IPCONFIG /release and /renew I can browse again for about a minute. I can ping various IP adresses on the web both by name and IP adress even after internet browsing stops working.

I have scanned for spyware with spybot S&D with nothing showing up and neither AVG (free) or eTrust can find anthing wrong.

I have tried another network card and a new cable get the same results.
I do notice that I am sending out 1 packet a second or so from the connection status page.

do the other 3 laptops lose connection at all - or is just this one laptop

can we see an xirrus screen shot from the faulty laptop

make and model of the laptop

may also need a wireless driver update
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

Hi...I use Crapcleaner a lot, to help clean up a lotta 'stuff' on my computer. But, I've found, after using it, and I shut my computer off for the day, when I turn it on again, I lose my DSL information and have to go thru my DSL server to get reconnected. Each time, my username, etc has dissapeared. The Crapcleaner is the only thing I can think has 'taken' it off my computer. What can I do to avoid this in future? And, is there anything any better than Crapcleaner to do what it does on my machine? I'm a Senior Citizen, and self taught on computers. As such, I need to know what to do in common laymans language, please.

My computer has Vista. At least a couple times per day we lose the internet connection. It never seems to happen while we are actively working on the computer. We will come back some time later, and it will not be connected. Occasionally, if I go to the network connection icon on the bottom right of the computer and click on it, it will reconnect. But most times it will not reconnect, and the only solution we have found is to restart the computer. We have had the computer approximately 3 years. When we first got it, we had Time/Warner for the internet provider. We never had this problem with them. About 2 years ago, we switched to AT&T. It seemed to start at that time. I have talked to them, and had a service person out a few times. We tried switching the ethernet connection to a different port, but this didn't solve it. They replaced the box, but still did not fix. They think it is computer related because we can always get reconnected every time by just rebooting the computer. Hi Guys I hope you can offer some advice on this one.

We've got a 2007 exchange server and we are having trouble with some users using outlook outside of the office. Typically what happens is they send emails and they sit in the outbox for quite some time and sometimes they send and some times it requires a restart of outlook to get them to send. We are using RPC over Http. My new dell laptop will do this it has Win 7 64 bit and office 2010 and when I get home I can sen emails for a little while and if I wait 10 minutes or so and come back to send some more tests it will all of a sudden not send the emails. If I right click on the outlook icon in the system tray it and choose connection status it will say connected. But then if I hit reconnect it struggles to connect the the 4 items mail/directory. I've also got a old laptop with xp and office 2007 and I'm having the same problems with that system too. I've tried many things like removing add-ons, disabling ativirus, checking off send email immediately, changing authentication from ntlm to basic and many more. I had one user who had this problem and I repaired her office install and disabled her firewall and it seems to have stopped her problems, but I tried apply the same solution to other pc's and they continue to have issues.

Thanks for the advice!

Answer:Outlook seems to lose connection

Several years ago I had users experiencing an simular issue, I don't remember the specifics but it had to do with the way DNS was working, it would pick up the wrong mail server (local computer instead of RPC) or something.

Not much help but easily checked.

When uploading any file (size not an issue) - the computer loses internet connectivity and will not reconnect unless the modem is reset. There are other computers on the wireless network that are still connected (stay connected). I call my IP and they are able to ping the modem (before the reset and while my browser displays the cannot connect message). This seemed to happen suddenly. I uploaded to flickr on a Monday and then on Tuesday I could not upload. I did a virus scan and no viruses were found. The antivirus software I use is current, that is the subscription has not lapsed. I went to speedtest dot net for other reasons and the same problem occurs when that test does the upload test. As long as I do not try to upload I stay connected to the internet. I am able to send email. As soon as I upload the connection is lost.

Or you could just be surfer the net and u lose connection all together. Once you restart the computer its back to normal for awhile. Like this can happen on one computer, I can go to the next and be just fine. Its really got me stumped

ISSUE:

I lose internet connectivity with my browsers (IE & FireFox) without warning - happens at all times of the day (mostly during business hours - less at night). Email operations (check adn send via Outlook Express) still works but the browsers fail. Reboot eliminates the problem but it reappears later. It is not related to any specific web site (will happen at Cnet, CNN, ESPN, etc.).

Any ideas what to do? Thanks in advance for the help!

ACTION:

I've followed all the instructions in the sticky thread - have run numerous virus scans (Norton, Bitdefender, etc.), ad-aware, spy-bot, etc. Looks like everythat that could be troubling is gone but the problem persists.

I gave my 10 year old an old refurbished Dell Latitude 600. It seems to be intermittently losing wifi connection, even on my home wifi system.
Is there a card or something that needs to be replaced? Am I better off just buying a new laptop?
Thank you.

Answer:What causes this PC to lose wifi connection?

Is it using a network card? Or does it have built in wifi?

The drivers may need to be updated. Network drivers and firmware can both become obsolete over time. Upgrading newer versions of these things can sometimes fix network connection problems.

Do you experience connection losses on any other machines in the house? Sometimes there can be interference.

Hi

I'm a newbie here, looking for help and guidance. I have taken on a new client who has the following setup, BT Infinity, Vigorpro 5510, and SBS 2011 server. I was involved with unpacking and seting up the equipment to get client up and running. I have never setup a firewall before, and after contacting Draytek, they guided to get BT infinity, 5510 to talk so that the server was able to get onto the internet. The setup was then left in its default state.

All was fine until lately, the client keeps losing internet approx same time most days.

My problem is how do i get the 5510 properly configured to talk to BT infinity, and sbs 2011. I always get lost when it come to playing with IP address. Also the client has a fixed IP address supplier by BT, so want to know how to setup the vigorpro with this address.

The configuration is as follows:-

BT ASDL modem, dhcp switched off, ip addr 192.168.1.254, static ip 8x.xx.xx.xx

Vigorpro 5510:-
Wan 1 IP - 192.168.1.200
sub mask - 255.255.255.0
Gateway IP - 192.168.1.254
primary IP - 192.168.1.254

Wan 2 - Not configured

Lan 1st IP - 192.168.16.1
1st submask - 255.255.255.0

sbs 2011
IP 192.168.16.254
submask 255.255.255.0
def gateway 192.168.16.1
Pref DNS 192.168.16.254

PC assigned IP from sbs 2011

Can anyone review the about, and help identify any problems.

Where should I enter the BT Static IP address on the draytek.

THanks to all in advance

Answer:lose connection to internet

Anybody able to assesss this configuration and advise if need changing.

Its becoming urgent now as the client keeps running the sbs 2011 wizard 'connect to internet' inorder to resume internet connection.

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if you have a separate modem, the make and exact model of the modem.

Lemme paint the scenerio for you. I live in Naples, Italy. When someone gets ADSL hooked up here, the common problem is that they initially, after set-up and first connecting, get some virus/trojan that affects their Explorer connectivity. I can't seem to get rid of the problem. Now I can log onto, say PartyPoker, and remain connected almost indefinetly. Programs that don't need a browser for support seem to fair better. But, using Windows Explorer will 'lock' the connection after about 1 minute, disabling any program from connecting to the internet at that point until I reset the machine. Heres my HiJack info:

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run ad-aware SE with VX2 add-on cleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy (with updated database) and CWShredder as these programs will clean a lot of the crap out first. All links to programs are in my signature. Ok..on to the log?..

If you have a highspeed connection please Run an online virus scan from TrendMicro Please select the ?autoclean? option when prompted to do so.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also. Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Open add/remove programs and remove EliteSideBar if listed. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be but make sure)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\smsss.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vgacard.exe

Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure you do not miss an entry)

This computer and a HP laptop both won't stay connected very long to my wireless router. I have a newer computer using Windows 7 that so far, has no problems staying on the internet with the wireless router. Hooking this desktop to the router by wire seems to keep it connected. All machines are using Netgear wireless adapters and the signal strength is always very good or excellent. It shows that they are still hooked up to the internet, but I can't get on with them while the 7 machine keeps on going. Waiting a while usually gets them back on. Anybody have similar problems or know what might be causing this issue? Thanks for looking, Larry.

Hello everyone,
I was hoping someone here could give me some knowledge about my power cord. I have a Compaq Presario R3000 laptop that is no longer very user friendly. The power cord that charges the battery is loose and has to be positioned "just so" to keep power flowing to the computer.

I have taken the laptop apart and done what I could to rebend the metal tabs in the female part of the connection to make better contact, but this fix only lasted about a week. Is there any way to replace the female receptor. I would like this fix to be as cheap as possible.

This computer is mostly a desktop replacement and stays plugged in most of the time. Unfortunately the battery is the original and is about 4 years old and no longer holds a charge that lasts more than about 5 min. So, whenever the plug jiggles loose the computer switches to battery and then promptly shuts down. I know I need to replace the battery and I already have plans to do so. But, I am not sure I want to get a new battery if I am not going to have a way to keep it charged.

Any wisdom from the computer sages here is greatly appreciated. Or anyone who just happens to know the answer would be fine to (no sage status required)

Thanks alot.

Steve

Answer:Laptop power cord connection-Fixable?

Hey,

I had this exact same problem with a Presario 2100. I took the laptop apart and found the problem was the socket which it seems you have to.

If you look around you should be able to find out what model number the socket is, I'm not too sure which one I got and they'll probably be different but I found one on eBay which was just a few quid from America, I removed the old one and soldered this one on. It's probably best not to mess around with it unless you know exactly what you're doing.

I also replaced the male connector on the cord, just picked up a universal charger from the shop, cut off the end of my charger and re-connected this one, although now its got a lot of electrical tape on it. Doesn't looks great but works perfectly and saved a lot of money.

Again, best not to do this unless you know what you're doing. Lucky for me my dad's an electrician and really helped me out with this.

I hope this helps you!

I have an old Vaio Laptop that I stopped using some time back because it overheated. I put it in a drawer and kept it because it has 'stuff' on it (reports etc) that I thought I might want to refer to one day.
That day came last week when a power station I produced a report for want to reconsider an old report's findings - the trouble is I've lost the power supply! I have another PSU with the same voltage/amps and the plug on the end is a conventional 5.3mm jack with outside/inside contacts. The problem is the Vaio has a peculiar jack - it seems to need a central pin and an outer sleeved section.
Does anyone know what the Vaio connector is called so I can solder one onto the PSU I have, or whether an adaptor is likely to exist?

Answer:Old Vaio Laptop Power Supply Connection

Would it not just be simpler to remove the Hard Drive and put it in a Caddy

Hi all,

I usually can figure stuff out myself, anything from soldering a laptop charger to replacing a laptop screen... but this problem is completely stumping me.

I prefer my laptop to be in the "Balanced" power mode, which I've edited, so that my computer screen doesn't dim within just a few seconds, and so that when I close the screen it doesn't go to sleep.

The problem is...for some reason, the computer keeps switching itself back to Power Save mode....no matter how many times I go into Screen Saver > Power options and switch it to Balanced...it ALWAYS switches back to Power Save mode. It does it at random times, too...sometimes I can shut my screen hours after I've changed the power settings, and it will not go to sleep because it's still in Balanced mode. Other times...I switch it to balanced mode, and literally a minute or two later when I close the screen, it goes to sleep. Upon waking, I see that the power mode is yet again changed back to Power Save mode.

My computer is a Dell XPS L502X...the only thing I can think of is possibly Dell QuickSet is switching it??

I can't figure it out! Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I charge my Band to 100%. Leave it on the desk for as long as you want, all ok, no issue with power.
As soon as I put it on my wrist, the power goes. Band just goes blank and doesn't work. If I then connect it to charger, band comes back to life and says welcome back you lost power. Which of course I didn't as its still actually at 100%.
Started doing this after 3 weeks of wearing. Very annoying - now totally unusable.
Thanks,
Simon

within a couple of days the battery of my Satellite-A-50 ( have it two months) goes from 100% to 4% while the laptop is shut down.

I tried with the start - shut off function (windows 8.1) and i tried shutting down by the keeping the button pressed for 5 seconds and the laptop closes down.

But within some days the battery is down.

How is this possible? What can I do?

thanks

Answer:Why does battery lose power when Satellite-A-50 is shut down?

This theme has been discussed many times here in the forum.
I would recommend you to use the forum search function and to read some other threads.

But let me tell you that Win 8.1 does not power off the notebook completely by default. It sets the notebook only in hybrid shut down mode to allow faster booting.

To disable this function check doc:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2B03EY0002R01.htm

Furthermore BIOS contains some options which allow the notebook to power up while its completely OFF. For example: Wake up on LAN or Wake up on Keyboard mode.
Such options waste the battery power even if the unit has been shut off.
Therefore it?s advisable to disable it.

We are having several workstations that are momentarily losing connection to our Windows Server 2008 machine that hosts their Documents etc.

It seems like a momentary disconnection and not everyone has complained although I'm guessing that unless you are trying to locate a file etc at that moment you might not notice.

Here is the error message I see in the event logs on the server:

While transmitting or receiving data, the server encountered a network error. Occassional errors are expected, but large amounts of these indicate a possible error in your network configuration. The error status code is contained within the returned data (formatted as Words) and may point you towards the problem.

Would you start with changing port on the switch, changing network cable or do you think it's more likely to be something on the server itself?

Answer:Workstations Lose Connection To Server

one thing I always like to turn off is power save mode for NIC's(depending on the model). I've seen it cause weirdness in the past.

have you confirmed that the ports they are connected to are set for the proper speed duplex? auto negotiate as opposed to 100/1000 full, etc? do the cable runs terminate to a patch panel, if so have you tried re-terminating them?

Computer HP Pavilion a520n running Windows XP Home edition SP3. I lose my internet connection 5 to 10 minutes after turning my computer on. At first I thought that there was a problem with my wired network adapter. So I disabled it and installed a wireless adapter. Rebooted and had the same problem. I ran SUPERAntiSpyware which detected --TROJAN.AGENT/GEN-RIMCUD-- file name and location ?C:\ Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\SDM143\RESOURCEDLL.DLL?item Quarentined, did not fix the internet connectivity. Ran McAfee antivirus with 3 tracking cookies detected. Ran Malwarebytes Did not complete scan,(became slow to respond) DIRECTORY -- System Volume Information. Well over 4 hours scanning that directory (System Volume Information). Terminated program. I only have a small window to get online. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
