Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 5100 network card problem

Question: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 5100 network card problem

I have a network card , the one mentioned in title on my laptop , and
Vista system, I have no idea why,but this card loses randomly (sometimes for short sometimes for quite long time) a connection with a router as well as main net, I've tried to deal with a problem by changing the configuration but it didn't work
Can somebody help me? or maybe is it possible to change a card for another one?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We're in hospital, she's I'll, I am 24/7 carer.

My Vostro 1720 connects promptly at home, WiFi or LAN.

Hospital has public use WiFi provided on each floor. Transmitter has TP-Link on the cover and twin aerials.

The Vostro can see transmitters for 4 floors, the signals come & go and, regularly disappear.

2 iPads & an iPhone stay connected unless, the signal disappears, in the same room. Signals are described as excellent or good.

The Vostro when I bring it in, after using at home, connects automatically. Twice has reached the stage when all 3 links I can see with a decent signal, can't connect, sometimes get asked for the password, run trouble shooter multiple times with no success. First time internet connection worked for 2 days, 2nd time for an hour, then couldn't log on to any link.

I'm puzzled why the Vostro doesn't hold the connection and the IOS devices do.

Public holiday over in a couple of days and I plan to catch the lady chief of the hospital and the IT manager.

I would be most grateful for queries, comments or, references to help in these encounters.

Thank you and regards

I am new here. I'm not even sure if this question is in the correct forum (I hope so). I have a Toshiba Satellite A305 laptop that I purchased a few months ago. In the last month, the wireless connection has been dropping like mad ! And more recently, when it drops, it says it can't find any wireless networks. I then have to perform a hard shut off (by holding the power button till it powers down) and wait a few minutes to turn it back on. I have uninstalled the wireless adapter and then reinstalled it and that didn't work either. Also, all the drivers are up to date. I am very frustrated at this point and don't know what to do. Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks !!

Answer:Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 problem

It is always a VERY good idea to check the microfilters (if using ADSL) which are fitted into your phone sockets and make certain that you have microfilters in any socket in the house. Microfilters are very cheap to get hold of and its worth having a few spare.

I have had a Linksys BEFW11S4 Version 4 Wireless router for quite some time.  It works like a champ and I have one Laptop wired to it and a second using Wireless working just fine.  Recently, I received a new ThinkPad W500 Laptop with an Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN wireless network adapter.  The older laptop (ThinkPad T60p) that works just fine with the router uses a11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter by Atheros.  However, the NEW laptop (the W500) with the Intel Adapter fails to connect to the Router.  It will either indicate a failure while "Waiting for Association" or it will indicate a failure when waiting to "renew IP Address".  Sometimes, it will show a signal strength close to ZERO (Even as the older laptop with the other adapter is showing a signal strength close to 100%) When I called Linksys support, I was told that the facts that the Router (a) works find with the wired Laptop and (b) works fine with the 11a/b/g NEtwork Adapter and (c) works fine when WIRED to the new laptop all indicate that the problem is NOT with the router at all -- but with the Network Adapter.  Can anyone tell me what has to be adjusted in the Adapter settings?  Right now, I am using IBM Access Connections for BOTH of the wireless laptops.  I have made sure to set IDENTICAL values for SSID and WEP (128-bit) [static] password.  I have also ensured that all OTHER settings are the same for the two laptops.  Yet, in... Answer:Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN Network Adapter does not recognize Linksys Wireless Router

I would like to add some information that I left out that MAY be crucial here.On the NEWER ThinkPad, I am using Access Connections 5.02.  At work, the wireless adapter works properly and I am able to use the Intel Adapter. It is only at home where I have the Linksys Router that I have a problem.I also noticed that when I looked at the Wireless Driver Properties, there was NO tab for "wireless" -- which I would have expected to see....Instead there are only TWO tabs... one for "General" and one for "Advanced"... Just like what you would see for an EthernetAdapter..... this all looks a bit weird to me.....As I did not configure this laptop, I do not know if the Hotkey and Power Manager were installed BEFORE the Access Connections or not.... any ideas? TIA --Zvi

Then I wonder if Lenovo 3000 N500 4233 series supports N network with the following network card Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.When I linked up with Rauter with N, so I got a speed of about 65 Mbps, but far away from thespeed of 100-130 Mbit/s +.I have spoken to Lenovo and received a reply to update drivers on all that goes too uppdate and see if it works. If I do not find them at Lenovo, I would go to Intel and Microsoft homepage to see if there were any new drivers.Slowly and soil, I made it and found newer drivers for the network card but to no avail.I spoke with Lenovo again and got the answer that it could not do more because the card was 65 Mbps, which is certain to N working. In other words, nothing is broken can not be repaired, even if it onlyperforms 1/4 of what it should be!I was still unhappy, I could go back to the medamarkt and return the machine.I wonder how somone can say something like that when intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNshall work up to 300 Mbps while It can't get more then 65 Mbits/s.For if I have 65 then I am on N linkage because the G only goes up to 54 Mbit/s.The most strange is that not only was the serier of Lenovo 3000 N500, having problems with Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNnot performing as it should. The answer I got was to either leave or wait until someone will solve the problem (Lenovo,Intel or Microsoft).Plus I have age machinery that works good in 130 Mbits/s without problems while a new can not?Strange thinking about this.So what do you do?Someone who knows ... You'll need a modded BIOS in order to use that card in R500. Stock BIOS will not allow the machine to boot with it.

I have problems getting online using my T00 after installing windows 7. The rest of the computers in my network will be affected if my T400 is online. I saw the version for my intel wifi link 5100 to be of version 12+ but i understand that the latest driver is version 13. I downloaded the latest firmware from the internet and intel website but after updating/reinstalling, the driver is still version 12+. I really need to update the driver as I need to access my wireless network desperately and my T400 cannot allow me to do that. Any ideas?

I have a Gateway FX series 17" laptop and yesterday when I got home from university and took the computer out of my bag to start working, the wireless card just didnt exist, no networks were recognized and when i tried to troubleshoot it told me that no device was connected. Wired internet works just fine. And the wireless card appears in the device manager.

methods i have tried to no avail:
-turning the wireless switch on and off
-uninstalling the device and rebooting
-updating drivers
-manually downloading driver from Intel's website
-insulting the device's mother

I'm suspecting this might be a hardware issue but if anyone has some advice that would be great. For the time being I am just using a wired connection but I'm going to need the wireless when I'm. back in class

,Thanks guys

Hey guys firstly thanks for taking the time to read my thread.

Recently completed a custom install of Windows 7 64bit version. Have installed all the Windows updates and drivers from HP.

My wireless adapter will connect to my network with static ip address set manually but the 'automatically detect settings' option will not work and I receive the message "Unidentified Network" in the task bar.

Any help will be appreciated.

**SOLUTION**

1. Reset router and apply settings again. (**Remember to write down any user names and passwords used for your ISP**)

2. Use WPA2-PSK security rather than WPA

3. Connect to network using network password

Ok I have a Asus G60VX thats less than a year old running windows 7. On Friday (three days ago) the system was working fine, I could connect to the internet and everything. Tonight when i turned on my laptop it showed that i couldn't connect to the internet. So i rebooted both my computer and router thinking it was my brother playing Xbox live. It still didn't work. So i tried the usual suspects: deleted the saved file and made a new one, went into the device manager and made sure there weren't any problems (there weren't), i even tried doing a system restore but to no avail. I tried the Fn combo on my keyboard and the switch on the front but this still didn't work. After three hours searching for a solution on my desktop (which can access the internet fine) I kinda want to take a sledge hammer to the thing. :) So at this point i'm begging for a solution! thanks!

Answer:Problem with Intel WiFi link 5100?

Hi.

Did you install any iTunes or Apple software before this happened?

For now, try resetting the network protocol tcp/ip stack. In an elevated command prompt, copy and paste this then hit enter:

Code:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
Then do the same for this command:

Code:
netsh winsock reset
Reboot and test the connection. If still no good, go into Internet Explorer.

Tools | Internet Options | Connection | Lan Settings

and make sure there are no checked boxes. Then ok your way out a few times. Reopen IE and test.

If still no good, please respond about the Apple, iTunes software and/or do you have mdnsresponder.exe in the task manager?

We have fairly new HP DV7T laptops, with the internal Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN card..

We have been through 3 access points at this point, i just now confirmed that i dont think our issue is access point related, at least not the type etc...

Frequently these laptops will suddenly not find ANY networks (wireless ones) to connect to..

Other laptops (dell, asus, iphones) still work fine during these periods.

I've tried playing with configuration settings on the nic itself with no luck.

Currently we have a Dlink Dap-2553 access point.. set to the 2.4ghz mode (since we still have devices that need 2.4ghz)..

I'm not sure what to do to prevent this from happening, short of using express cards, which we dont want to do..

Anyone else ran into this?

Thanks

My computer is running on Windows 7 Professional 32bit. It has worked fine for the last 2 years. But recently, my wifi card has started me giving me problems. It detects the wireless networks but connects to them only for around 10-15 minutes after which the connection is not even visible in the list. Then after 30-40 minutes, it can connect but the same problem is there.

Also, I tried to make my own ad-hoc connections and saved them. These connections do work and my friends are able to connect to it and the connection remained active for hours. I did it to check whether the Wifi card is working or not. It does work but only with the outgoing connections that are made by my computer. The networks that in range and are giving problem with my wifi card are working fine for my friends. So, I guess it is not the network's problem.

When I tried troubleshooting it, it gave the problem 'Problem with wireless adapter or access point'. I also tried installing all different driver versions and rollbacking to the default version for my wireless card but the same problem is there. Although in device manager, It says the device is working properly.

Please help me in solving this problem. Exact name of WiFi Card in Device Manager- Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN

Answer:Intel 5100 AGN WiFi Card problem

The same complaints and problems with this 5100AGN adaptor has been around for a long time.

There are countless threads about this on the internet. It seems that disabling the 802.11n Only setting in the routers settings and running in mixed wireless mode can help. Updating the drivers can also help, try the Intel site. > Intel? Driver Update Utility

There are plenty of long threads about this ongoing problem with some possible solutions, so your not alone.

Hi Guys,
This is Viral. I am using an Acer laptop model ASPIRE 4736 since the last five years. There haven't been much issues with it. except for the battery and thats it. But recently, since last two weeks I noticed that my Wifi would stop blinking after sometime after I start my laptop and then it wouldn't work even when I try to turn on and turn off the Wifi switch(it doesn't respond anything). I tried searching the net for this issue using my office laptop and found that a system restore would help to solve this issue. Since I remembered that I updated Java as well as there was this ad software which got installed and I had unistalled it. So I did a system restore and then when I opened the device manager, I am not able to see intel r wifi link 5100 driver on it. I tried restarting my laptop and did everything and couldn't find the driver(it was there before the system restore). But later on the same day, the driver got installed automatically and the WiFi started working but only for a couple of minutes after the restart and then it stopped. So  I did the system restore again to the date when everything was working perfectly and when i did that, again my intel r wifi link 5100 driver is not shown on the device manager(network adapters). I don't if it would automatically get installed or not but its sure that the WiFi issue still be there. So can you please help with this issue?

Hello, I'm trying to get wifi working on my x200, but nothing I try seems to work. Initially, in XP or Windows 7, the card wasnt even detected, so wouldn't come up in the unrecognized devices section in device manager.  I installed/uninstalled the drivers several times but nothing changed. I then opened up the Thinkpad and moved the wifi card from the first slot to the second.  Upon booting, in Windows 7 and again in xp, the card was recognised, but a code 10 error came up. I've tried replacing the wlan card with one from an R60, but the x200's boot software prevented the PC from booting up. Can anyon help? Thanks John

Answer:X200 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

Update to my first note.  After a day of installing countless drivers, bios updates and whatever else.  I'm pleased to say that my x200 is now woking in XP with wifi on the 5100. The PCI slot the 5100 card was in to start with did not register any device to be present.  The second slot, recognised the card but gave a code 10 error. I also followed the steps outlined in: kbartke's post on resolving the code 10 on 5100 issue.  That had no immediate effect, but may have eventually solved the problem. I also updated the bios to 3.02. The strange thing that seemed to work was changing the machine's name.  Once restarted, the wifi light came on. I now have to figure out how to get rid of all the bloatware i managed to install in my attempts to get this working... John

hello ebartolon...
it's still is but remember this is a free forum....
since airbot already gave you the lecture on the bumping threads im not going to go into that...
but what i can tell you to do in the throughput enhancement to turn it on...
also in wireless mode put it to 802.11n as i believe right now you are using 802.11g and not using the n spec...

also even in ideal situations you are not going to get the throughput specified in the n spec or advertised...
it says *up to* because that is the maximum speed that it will go and usually the hardware never reaches that speed....

I've been having issues with my laptop and its wifi card for the past couple of months. It's an Intel WiFi Link 5100 and my internet just randomly stops working, other computers and devices still work fine, but on my computer I cannot browse the internet (however sometimes downloads don't stop for some reason). Updated my drivers, turning it off and on does nothing, and I'm pretty sure it's not my firewall but next time the internet stops working i'll make sure.

When I say it randomly stops working I mean I'll turn the computer on it will work for a bit then just stop then a little bit later it will work. No other computers or devices experience those kind of pulses here.

Hi, since my WLAN Card seems to be broken I bought myself a new Intel Wifi Link 5100 for my W500. After I replaced the old card with the new one, I get a "1802 unauthorized network card error".I googled for the problem an now I am completely pissed about lenovo. My W500 has a standard slot for such cards, but the W500 has a bios which checks cards against a whitelist and I cannot turn this completely useless check off.Any idea what I could do?2 weeks ago I started thinking about buying a new notebook after christmas. Now I wonder, whether the W530 suffers from the same problem. In the moment I am not sure, whether it makes any sense to buy another lenovo product, when it turns out, it could be crippled the same way as my W500. So does anybody know, whether the W530 suffers the same problem. A last question? What happens, when I plug a WLAN-Stick into USB? Must it also be authorized by lenovo and how do I find out, which products are authorized? Thanks in advance Thomas

Answer:W500 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

welcome to the community.

sorry for your troubles.
afaik, all ThinkPads of at least the last 5(?) or more generations have had a BIOS whitelist for mPCI/e WLAN / WWAN options. as i understand it, this is due to getting approvals from numerous "Communications" regulatory agencies around the world for the cards. unfortunately, i've never seen the whitelists published anywhere, so we normally go by the FRU #s included in hardware maintenance manuals when folks ask for advice on compatible cards.

re: the USB WLAN stick, you should have no issue similar to a whitelist block.

regards.

Howdy

I recently started an internship in Egypt about a week ago. When I first got here the wireless internet worked fine (albeit a bit slow) in my apartment and around the campus. However last thrusday the Wifi on my laptop quit working. I have a Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN that has Windows 7 RC on it right now. The adapter picks up the signal but when you try and connect it gives 'limited connectivity " = no internet. I tried using the Troubleshooter but when used it just says that The Diagonostic Policy service is not running and therefore it cannot fix the the problem. I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this problem.

Thanks

try this either set a hard coded dns

or hard code the ip if you know what your network ip address numbers are
that your access point uses

so say some thing like
this is very very common here

IP: 192.168.1. 100-150
SUBNET: 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY:192.168.1.1

and find a dsn server

dont use them numbers there just make sure that your using the right set for the network that your connecting too
i have the same card in my laptop and its a work horse and some

also is the network that your connecting too secure make sure you have your settings right

Hi I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW11E Laptop with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.
On the front is a switch to turn of the Wireless adaptor & a little green light that goes out when you switch it off.
Normally when I turn on the computer it comes on automatically but sometimes it does not & when I look at Device manager it is missing. The only way I can fix it is to turn the computer off & on again. Sometimes I have to do this several times before it will work.
It also goes off by itself if the computer is left on for any length of time without being used.

any ideas ?

This seems to be a recurring theme as I've found several entries on this subject but no real solutions. I have an Actiontec MI424WR router. I have had at least 6 different wireless devices connected to this router that include MS and Linksys game routers, Xbox, 2 Lenovo t42 thinkpads and a t60p think pad. All work flawlessly so I don't think this is a router issue. Windows Vista Home As soon as the connection drops, I go to access connections and bring it up and it reconnects. I've downloaded the latest drivers, ran thru all the lenovo updates. Help!

I have an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN and it keeps crashing my laptop. I would be working and my screen would freeze randomly and my computer would remain unresponsive. This only happens when I turn on my laptop's wireless card and put it to use.

I tried multiple drivers but the newer ones froze my computer faster. I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and it still does the same.

Uninstalling the driver and rebooting while letting Windows install a default driver yields the same results.

Much help needed!

I'm having the exact same issues. It's driving me nuts! Have you had any luck in resolving this? I've just tried the latest drivers from Intel and it hasn't fixed it.

Hello,         Im interested to use of WWAN in my laptop, My is Thinkpad T400, having with Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN.  please guide me with process accesing the simcard slot in laptop. Waiting for your reply. With Regards  Santhosh

Answer:Regarding using wwan in T400 with Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN

Hi,

I believe the SIM card slot is in the battery bay.  Remove the battery to access.

That Intel 5100 is a wifi card, not a wwan card.  Do you also have a wwan card installed, or is that what you are asking about?

Information on both (SIM and wwan card installation) is in the hardware maintenance manual: Hardware Maintenance Manual - T400 & R400

Am looking for a hardware solution: Pavilion DV7 1270 usUPGRADED TO WIN 10  64bit from WIN 7 64bit My current WIFI Wireless/Bluetooth card is an INTEL WIFI LINK 5100 agn. ( Original card) This is NOT SUPPORTED in Win 10... WIFI  no longer works. There are no solutions offered in HP Web assistance or via INTEL or MICROSOFT. I would simply like to find a compatible(upgrade) card that works in this system  with WIN 10? The card is accessible and replaceable ( in RAM Bay... as i remember) INTEL no longer supports this card (to and through win 10) HP Laptops are notoriously finicky with WIFI card replacements...? Short of adopting a usb dongal WIFI/BLUETOOTH option, I would like to effect an internal upgrade to the original card... seems simple enough? Thank You for whatever guidance you might afford

Answer:after win 10 upgrade, intel wifi link 5100 no longer support...

Hi: You may be able to get the card to work if you fiddle with some of the advanced settings on the advanced tab for the card in the device manager. I have 3 HP business notebooks...one has the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3965ABG card, one has the Intel Intel WiFi Link 4965AG card, one has the Intel WiFi Link 5300 wireless card. The first two I didn't have to do anything to make them work. The 5300...device is present in the device manager saw wireless networks but would not connect when I clicked connect. I went into the advanced settings tab and I think I enabled WMM and the card works just fine and has so ever since. Try tweaking one of the settings in the advanced settings tab. I wish I remembered exactly which setting I changed that made it connect. I was ticked off, so I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. Could not understand why two older cards worked perfectly and the newer one wouldn't. Changing the wireless card would be extremely problematic as you are limited to just the cards listed in the service manual and half the time the ones listed in the manual cause the notebook not to boot up until the card is removed. Also, if you can't get the Intel 5100 to work, you can forget any of the others listed working on W10. I am very sure that changing one of those advanced settings will allow the 5100 card to work.

This has been happening for the past three days. I just recently bought a laptop, the Toshiba Satellite A305-S6898, with Intel? WiFi Link 5100.

I would be just surfing on the internet and then the WiFi link would randomly just stop working. I would go to the available connections window, and the network i'm connected to would say 'Connected with limited connectivity', and then it would disconnect and then it would not be able to detect any networks, even though it previously did before. I know it's not a network problem because the same problem occured on two different networks I have set up in two different places. The device manager does not report anything wrong with it, and I did not randomly turn off the wifi for any reason. I would have to reset my laptop in order to fix the problem.

Hi,

I just bought a Sony Vaio with Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 Network Adapter.

I primarily use the notebook at my home & office network.
Home Network Router: Linksys WRT54G
Office Network Router: Beetel 450BXi (ADSL2+Modem)

The issue am facing is while am on to the network (mostly home network) suddenly it goes into limited connectivity & gets disconnected; while other PC's remain connected.

And then you have to either re-install the Wireless LAN driver or re-start numerous times.

This has been happening regularly. Pls assist in resolving the issue.

This is a new machine (to me). It is a T-500 2242CTO with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN card and a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit.  I successfully VPN using Ethernet from this machine and wirelessly from other machines in my home network.  However, wireless VPN connectivity from this machine fails 100% of the time.  Current drivers and updates are installed.  I am using the Windows VPN client and receive the following message: Error 800: The remote connection was not made because the attempted VPN tunnels failed.  I turned on logging and found no useful information, to me, in the mounds of data generated.  I've also un-installed the wireless driver, re-installed it, un-installed Lenovo Access Connections and the same error continues.  Has anyone encountered this issue or have suggested fixes?

Answer:Malfunctioning wireless network adapter (Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AG)

I have similar experience too, but malfunction only happens when I am trying to connect to my school network which is WPA2-enterprise or WPA-enterprise. My wireless seems to work fine at home with WPA-personal. All other laptops work fine (so it is my laptop). The signal is fine because it register 100% strength. Basically, mine works for a few minutes, then it starts malfunctioning (school network only). During malfunction, it cannot detect any wireless network (even those that aren't WPA-enterprise). When it can detect wireless network again, it may or may not be able to reconnect to the school network.

I have tried updating the driver several times.  I am at the most recent version of the driver, 13.3.0.24, and it is still not present as an option.  All I see is EAP-MSCHAPv2 and SmartCard or other certficate.  I do not have any of the Intel ProSet or ThinkAdvantage apps to manage wireless.  I tried to get rid of the vendor cruft.  Was that a mistake?

In the device manager it shows that device is working corectly but in fact it is not working at all. Uninstalling connection utility didn't help and windows cannot find any driver at the HDD or in windows update.

Any idea what could be done to fix it?

Hello. We are receiving T400 laptops.  These laptops do not hold a wireless connection for any length of time.  They also have a hard time connecting at boot up.  Item that have been tried...01) Removed and re-installed Drivers.02) Removed and reinstalled Access Connections. (Leap Authorization is used)03) Removed and replaced the Wireless Card. FRU 43Y6943. We are using Windows Xp with SP 2.  The laptop runs fine and we have no complaints with the exception of the wireless.  I might mention that we had the same issue with T61 Models.  To resolve this issue, we removed the B/G/N card and installed B/G cards.  We do not utilize "N" Band, so we do not need this capability.  I was looking for a way to do the same to the T400 Laptops, but I am unable to find a compatible B/G card to use.  The BIOS generates the 1082 error if we attempt to use a card that is not approved for the model.  Any assistance would be appreciated... Thanks. Hello! I have a R500 Series ThinkPad with the Intel 5100 AGN WiFi adapter. The driver for the card has been updated as of today (September 7, 2010). I have a D-Link DIR 655 WiFi router (replacing an old Linksys 54g WiFi router). The firmware of the router has also been updated today. I'm running the router under the WPA-2 standard with AES cipher type, channel width of 40 Mhz on 802.11n mode only with auto channel scan (just as Intel is recommanding). I also followed Intel indications for the WiFi card. Problem is : the laptop just can't connect to the WiFi network...? I tried all sort of things, but to no avail. Can anyone help? Note that when I tried  to use the router under WPA with TKIP and AES as cipher type, the laptop was able to connect at the slow 54 Mbps rate. Thanks.

Recently, my Intel Wifi 5100 has stopped working on windows. For no appearant reason, Windows decided that my Wifi card is not good enough to be read. When i open my Device Manager, my Ethernet port shows up, but the Wifi card does not. The wierd part is that the Wifi card gets read in "Splashtop" which came on my laptop. I can use Wifi on the Linux bases OS, but not windows. I've tried installing all drivers, but Windows refuses to acknowledge the presence of my card. Any clue on how to fix this?

Answer:Serious Intel Wifi 5100 problem

Hey, welcome to Vista Forums!
Assuming the wireless card is removable, you could try re-seating the wireless card, also, you could take the card out, and boot, then shut down, and put the card back in, then boot and see if it made any difference.

If it's not removable, check to make sure any wireless switches are turned on.

Please post back with what you have tried, or even if you managed to fix the problem and how!
Hope this helps,
Daniel

I stil use very old Toshiba A350D. Notebook works fine with Office, internet browsing and other light task.
But last days i notice a problem with wifi connection. Well, the card constantly switches off automatically. I use Intel Wifi ProSET tool and Windows 7 system tools.
Windows 7 indicator shown no avilable connections and ProSET indicator shown wifi disabled and ask for turn on wifi with hardware switcher, when hardware switcher (mechanical slider with LED on front) is in the 'on' position and LED flashes.

When this happens, the wifi card is still detected in the Windows device manager. I reinstalled all drivers, but this didn't fix the problem.
The card can be switched on and off several times per minute, but most often when the card is turned off it is hard to activate it again.

Fn + F8 works well, if WiFi Link works properly himself.

Is there still someone who remembers this model and met with such behavior?

Hello all,
I am having an issue with my wireless internet connection. It has worked well for 5 years, but a few days ago I suddenly lost connectivity. Checked the wireless switch on my Dell 1737 laptop, good. Replaced my Intel 5100 wireless card with a new one. It is not recognized by Device Manager, but the driver shows up under Control Panel, Programs. Tried just about everything. Do you think I am looking at an out of box hardware failure? I have checked and rechecked the seating and coaxial connectors to the new board. This one has me stumped. Any suggestions? Kind regards.

Hello everyone,

It is my first thread on this forum and I want to thank you because you indirectly help me so many times.

I just installed new bios 1.25 on my notebook because of usb issues. Everything works fine but suddenly my wifi device stops working on windows 7.
It is well installed, the connection under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections is enabled, but It doesn't see any WiFi spot.

It is not a device hardware problem because it works under ubuntu.

I tried all the usual ways: reinstall drivers etc but nothing happens.

I don't want to reinstall my OS because I'll have too many settings to restore after.

Is there anyone experiencing the same problem? Anyone who fixed it?

Hi Folks,This is my first post and I hope someone can help me.I recently bought a T61 with the Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN card running on XP.The problem I am having is that I can not stay connected to my wireless network. When I turn on the laptop automatic connection is spotty at best. Once I do get connected, as soon as I open a browser (Firefox or IE) the connection drops and my router freezes. I know the problem is not with the router because it works smoothly with my business Dell Latitude D620 or a very old Thinkpad A31p.I've tried everything I can to rectify the problem (drivers, settings etc.). It's not easy downloading drivers to a flash drive on my wife's desktop and copying it to my laptop. From my research on the internet, it seems a lot of people are having the same issue. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Wireless Connection Problems with a Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

HiI have the exact same problem.  I have read about many others with the same issue.   I wish I had an answer for you.  There are a couple of things going on.  The Lenovo power management wants to turn the wireless off at a whim.   Authentication seems to fail for me with WEP turned on (works with other laptops using the same WRT54G).   I am running a T61 with Windoze XP.  Our work Wireless AP (WAP) has WEP enabled.   Wireless will work on the T61 at home with no WEP but not at work.    I am thinking about installing linux (running network manager) on the T61 becuase I know it will probably work.  I think the troubles are with the Lenovo wireless configuration utility. I am surprised that Lenovo has not fixed such a big problem.   It doesn't reflect a quality product.

I've read a dozen postings and think I know what's going on but hopefully someone can simplify it for me. With the Realtek RTL8191SE I am experiencing 4-5 minute boot times and WiFi connect times on my T400S (2801).  I decided to get the Intel WiFi Link 5300 agn card (533AN_MWW) to allow 5ghz connections and eliminate the Realtek problems.  I installed the card, connected the wires properly (Grey1, Black2, White3), hardware WiFi antenna switch is on, card is recognized by Windows, Intel 14.3.2.1 driver, driver is enabled but when I open Access Connections, no wireless networks are found.  Fn+F5 shows that the 802.11 Wireless Radio is present but with a status of Off.  When I click the Power On button, it turns green and closes automatically 30 seconds later but remains Off and still no networks found.  I don't think this adapter is whitelisted by the BOIS but I could have a different version than Lenovo approves.  I tried the other tips given such as disabling n, turning power management off, etc but to no avail.  Ideas?

Answer:Intel WiFi Link 5300 agn card not able to turn on via Fn+F5

I think I might have figured it out.  There are two PCI Express Mini Card slots on the T400S (2801).  The shorter slot is for WiFi/WiMax cards and the longer slot is for WAN cards.  The longer 5300 cards on the market cannot be used in the longer slot.  Windows recognizes the cards but Access Connections (or maybe the BIOS) does not allow it to operate.  Can anyone verify this?

Type: 7764-CTO S/N: L3-xxxxx OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Driver version: 13.1.1.1 In a nutshell, my WiFi has stopped working overnight; that is, it had been working flawlessly for more than a year, and one day when I woke up it decided to quit. Here's what happens when I turn the radio on now: it will scan for APs as usual, but only report a fraction of the list as it used to - it may not report even the preferred APs, which it had no problems connecting to before - and never make a connection. On some rare occasions, it might be successful at making a connection, but the connection would be reported as limited (i.e. no Internet access) and it would not stay connected for more than a few seconds. 90% of the time the 802.11 radio would try connecting, fail, and power off. Here's what I have tried: I have tried updating to the latest driver, as well as reverting back to the Windows 7 bundled driver. I have tried making connections to several working networks (e.g. friend's home, office, cafes, etc) to rule out my router being the source of the problem. I have also tried running the Ubuntu LiveCD to see if it would work under a different OS. Obviously, nothing has worked. For those who are curious, ethernet connection is working fine. I'm leaning toward it being a hardware failure. Does anyone have other thoughts and perhaps even a solution?

This has been a problem since day one of purchase and I am about to toss this computer in the trash!  Lost many days of production and probably some vital business because of this.  I have performed yet another complete rescue and recovery clean install and performed all windows vista updates as well as lenovo updates.  Every time the computer is moved just a little bit the wireless drops.  If you unplug the power cord the wireless drops.  Even changing power settings under device manager it still drops. I have tried to find the information to reseat the adapter but have come up empty.  With the thousands of posts and blogs all over the internet I would think Lenovo would have fixed this problem.  I am in the process of buying another laptop because this one is very unreliable and I have lost valuable time, business and potential customers because of the down time. I wondered if anyone has swapped wireless adapters with any luck?  If anyone has the schematic to remove/replace/reseat the adapter or a link for that information I would be grateful!  You purchase top end for business with anticipation of few problems.  My old IBM 386 & 486 are still working with no problems!  HELP BEFORE THE SLEDGE HAMMER FALLS! Thanksgrgsr

So I start messing with drivers and its help for a while. Now I am back to slow connection and I've try every thing I can think about(reinstall sys VISTA  included) On new system I install new drivers from Lenovo and it is not working. It looks like the WiFi link freeze for a while and the starts again an so on like that. I have all parameters on high or aggressive or max performance, it do not help much. Any one some idea? Ah! I should add. I do not use Access ControlMessage Edited by gonzo111 on 03-17-2009 07:07 AM

Greetings all! I have a Lenovo X61s that I purchased, and I have decided to upgrade the wireless card in it so that I can use the 802.11n that I have at home. When I installed the new adapter in the Mini-PCIe slot and restarted the device I got an error message saying the the card was not supported and had to be removed.  Per the X61 matrix (http://shop.lenovo.com/ISS_Static/merchandising/US/PDFs/X61_X61s_USEN_02.pdf) the 4965AGN is supported.  Has anyone else seen this? Regards,TC Labby

Answer:X61s will not accept Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

The BIOS has a whitelist of supported wireless cards. You need a Lenovo branded 4965agn card or else the BIOS will not allow you to boot the computer until you remove the card. The Intel 4965agn wireless card you are looking for is the FRU 42T0865.

I have an hp pavilion dv6 1355dx win 7 64bit intel core 2 duo. The wifi was working fine with my remembered connections and connected automatically within range. Then it started saying limited connection and would not let me browse the internet. After trouble shooting it said "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection adapter" So I uninstalled reinstalled Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN it was listed under network adapter so I'm assuming that means it is the adapter but I was told it is the driver. Still confused on that. A friend suggested that I delete my remembered connections now it just says no connections available.

Under network adapter properties even tried changing the channel width for band 2.4 thats Value was set 20 MHz only to Auto, as I was instructed by my college IT guy. I've searched for the drivers installed the one on the hp support site. According to my model i have Atheros Wireless LAN Adapter, in the devices supported list nothing that I thought was the adapter or driver was listed. Downloaded the file they said contains the driver for that adapter...didn't seem to do anything other than install. Tried rebooting still nothing. Anyone have any ideas or is it just a lost cause?

Thanks

Allison

Answer:Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN wireless internet won't work

You could try backing up your data and re-loading your system from your backup software or from a restore point from before the start of your problem? That way the network adaptor will have a working driver installed.

Answer:T61p Intel Wireless Wifi Link 4965 AGN driver upgrade

did you download the Lenovo driver, or did you down load the driver from Intel? Lenovo writes alot of their own drivers for things like wifi cards, its possible that by downloading Intel's driver, it isn't compatable with thinkpads.

Maybe this problem is not the Mobile Intel 4 family express chipset but thw wireless card? I just received an R400 with the above intel media graphics accelarator. Unfortunately, when playing an game like Second Life, it completely locks up the laptop. When in wireless mode, the wirelss connection shuts down. There is no way to get it back without rebooting the computer. The same is true when connected by a LAN. I checked to make sure I have the latest driver for the chipset. As I am sure everyone is aware, millions of people use Second Life for work and play. Its too bad I cannot use this laptop. Any suggestions? Mac

I have a laptop with an Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN nic

1) Shows up in Device manager as healthy
2) Has latest driver as per manufacturer (hp elitebook 6930p) running win2008R2 server.
3) keyboard wifi indicator lites up
4) Device shows up as active in networking devices

however, I cannot see any wireless ssid's to associate with.
I checked mfg web site for latest drivers and the intel web set for the adapter itself. After many downloads of win8 and win7 driver bundles (no support for win2008r2 apparently) I have not found a solution yielding a fix. I did stumble across a Intel proset/Wireless wifi software utility manual diagnostic tool v15.6.0.0. When it runs, i get:

"Wireless Hardware is not bound to transport driver"

To be exact:
#Event,Source,Time,Error Severity,Domain,User,Description
1,Manual Diagnostic,04/12/2013 15:57:12,Warning,Unknown,Administrator,Hardware Test
- Result : Failed, Summary : Wireless Hardware is not bound to transport driver

With the same tool i can run it manually on just selecetd tests (hardware, driver, radio, scan, associate, auth, signal, ping)
All of them fail (as expected except the driver test:

The driver test passes, just not the link to the transport apparently. Not sure how to fix this.

Hey guys, I've been a X61T(tablet) user for over 2 years now and have never had WiFi connection issues, whatsoever. I upgraded to Windows 7 last year and things only got better.  But, today, after uninstalling a program called "Connectify", that basically transforms your laptop into a WiFi hotspot, my Wireless Radio JUST WON'T SWITCH ON! My Wireless Radio switch(that's in front) is on(I pushed it to the right). Up until yesterday, it was working great. I even used my Wireless Network to create a WiFi hotspot using Coonectify. I also deleted it from Connectify because it wasn't working. And then, I just uninstalled Connectify because I didn't see a point in creating a hotspot, when I have a Wireless Router at home. I rebooted my PC and Viola --- WIRELESS RADIO HAS BEEN DEAD! I don't see the green LED for WiFi on the extreme left blinking anymore. Gone!  Went to Device Manager and I didn't see any problems with the Intel WiFi Link 4695 Device driver. I still uninstalled it and downloaded the most recent one. STILL NOT WORKING! I checked the registries to see if I can find any entries from Connectify that may be causing the problem, but Nada! Nothing there as well! I'm feeling pretty downbeat because I got a new Wireless Router yesterday NETGEAR N-150 and not even 24 hours later, I'm back to using ETHERNET cable! I'd really appreciate it if someone can help me out here! Thanks.

Hello!

I recently bought an Acer Aspire laptop (18.4" monitor). I am having difficulty connecting to the internet with this computer, and perhaps someone here can help me out. Here is some information:

Network Adapter: WiFi Link 5100 AGN
Router: Verizon Wireless (Model Name: MI424-WR)

Wireless network connections are detected, and the connection is "strong". However, when I try to connect, it always fails. When I go to the command prompt, and type "ipconfig" I see "Media Disconnected". I know there is a wireless button on the Acer's, but this is automatically turned on during startup, so I know this is not the problem. For some reason, my router is just not connecting to my network adapter, and I am unsure how to resolve this problem. Thanks for any insight of this issue!

Answer:Media Disconnected (WiFi Link 5100 AGN)

Maybe perhaps my wireless router is just not compatible with a Windows 7 64-bit system...

I've turned off Write Caching. I've increased SystemPages to 24FFF.I've run all the diagnostics I can find. No luck. I have a Sony Vaio with intel 5100 AGN wireless adapter & Vista OS.

The problem I have is that 9 times out of 10 it will not connect to my home or office wireless network. Eventually it does, though only after switching the adapter on and off several times or rebooting the machine. Sometimes I also have to restart the wireless router.

It will always seem to connect in that I get the connected icon in the notification area (though often without the internet globe symbol) though it will not connect to the net or to any other machine or printer on the network.

Some other useful info:
Both the home and office routers are the same model (Comtrend) and both work fine with other PC's

I often have bluetooth problems also - can take a while for bluetooth to start (I use a bluetooth mouse) and I have 3 unknown bluetooth peripheral devices in device manager

I have McAfee internet security installed

I have tried:
Disabling the firewall
Removing and readding the wireless and bluetooth devices
Disabling IPv6
Driver & OS update
A clean install

Nothing has resoved this issue which is becoming a pain as I can now spend up to half an hour each time trying to connect.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Answer:Wifi connectivity with intel 5100 AGN

Hi -

The Intel 5100 is one of the best wifi's available. I have one in this system and it performs flawlessly.

I think you'll find McAfee to be the problem here. I suggest that you remove it. Download the McAfee Removal Tool (MRT) to your desktop. RIGHT-click on the MRT icon, select "Run as Admin". When it finishes, re-boot.

MRT - http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe

Then reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply, OK

Use AVG for a/v if you wish - http://free.avg.com/download-avg-ant...s-free-edition

Make sure that you have the most recent Intel 5100 wifi driver. Go to Intel's site -

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Prod...ProductID=3062

You can check your system manufacturer's site, but I have found they are ususlly 8-12 months behind.

i just replaced an old belkin g router with a d-link dir-825 extreme n dual-band router...i managed to get the desktop connected to the internet using a d-link dwa-552 pci adapter (after updating using the atheros version driver, the included software manager/driver on the cd was a pain-in-the-a$$)...

the macbook pro also connects to the router and the internet...as does the wii and the ps3...using WPA2 security...

the vaio laptop, with vista business 32-bit and an intel wifi 4965agn adapter will not connect to either the router (192.168.0.1) or the internet in a browser window...

i updated the driver to the latest version...

the wireless network shows up, but when i try to connect it says "local access only"...in the vista diagnostic window it says "can't connect to primary dns server" (192.168.0.1)

i set up the router with this same laptop using a wired connection and the d-link set-up wizard, and i got an internet connection then...it just won't connect wirelessly...

of course i reset the router and the cable modem (time warner/roadrunner)...

is it an ip address problem? if so, how do i solve it?

thanks for any ideas...

Hello,

I have an intel PCI-E gigabit network card, and recently it started failing to even get a physical link (as indicated by a switch) after post( during boot it briefly flickers on then off), but only if the system it is in is cold booted (power removed, power applied, then booted). If I reset the system, it works perfectly fine. I have already tried swapping its PCI-E slot, to no avail. The system is running Fedora 10, and when it is in its broken state, even unplugging the network cable and plugging it back in will not cause it to detect link. Is the card dead, or does this sound like a software problem?

Thanks

Answer:Intel network card loses link after startup (linux)

Not enough data to really isolate it. However, from the command prompt type in lspci, paste the results here.

I'd also try a live CD Distro, see if the nic works there.

Answer:[SOLVED] Can't browse the web - Intel 5100 wifi issue

Hi -

Need to obtain info on your wifi. Make sure wifi is on, then run this app -

http://sysnative.com/0x8/WMIC...._jcgriff2_.exe

2 Notepads will open, one behind the other. Save both as TXT files; zip them up and attach to your next post.

Hi,
upgrading from Vista 32 to W7 32, I've lost wifi speed of 300Mbps.
Notebook Vaio AW11Z/B, Router Billion 7402NX draft N, 5100 driver updated with the Intel revision for W7.
The speed is about 130Mbps insted of 300Mbps, but in Vista it was working at 300Mbps.

Any suggestion on that ?

Thanks.

Update retriever does not have the correct download for the 6474 series it lists the Thinkpad driver 7yc10ww as the only download option.Message Edited by Davidmf on 01-27-2009 02:43 PM

Answer:T400 WiFi Link 5100 Incorrect Driver Update Retriever

I'm not sure what you are asking for as 7yc10ww is not a valid driver file name (they all have 8 characters in the name). However, the current Intel 5100 driver for Vista can be downloaded from here..... http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70505 or for XP its here.... http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70504 Cheers, Bill

Firstly, sorry for my english.  Now, wheres the problem. Ive bought two days ago a brand new Lenovo Z570 with pre-installed Win7HP. I do not like it, so I updated it to Proff. version. I installed all the drivers, and when I moved to other room in flat, I was/am not able to connect to internet. Wifi signal is excellent in every room, but the only place where I can connect to internet is my table where is also the router. Theres no problem in connectivity with other devices. My older NB Dell Inspiron 1520 with Broadcom wifi adapter has no problems with connection.  Yeah, and if I move in the same room wheres router too just for a 3 metres, I cannot connect to internet, but the signal is great.  I dont think the problem could be in router cause other devices (4 NBs) are able to connect to the internet in every room. Where could be problem and what I have to do? Thanks for replies

HELP!Lenovo Y530 with Vista removed and XP added.. Wireless card is 5100 AGN  I have what I believe to be the latest drivers from intel website.I am using Intel Proset software and whenever I run it, it tells me that the hardware switch is disabled. When I switch the hardware switch on or of I get the little message on my screen that indicates it is on or off - SO I know the switch is working. THe laptop came with Vista.. I put XP on it. I have insalled all the drivers from the lenovo XP driver link that I got from these forums. I really need wireless to work on this computer - I am setting it up for my mom, and need it working before I go home (which is 13 hrs away) does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Ideapad Y530 Wireless Hardware switch issue (Intel wireless 5100 AGN)

I Just Read this from the 3000 pages  "For unknown reasons my laptop is confused about the Bluetooth/Wifi switch (Fn + F5). The bluetooth and wifi device disagree on when to be on and when to be off. The result is that when i turn on wifi, i turn off bluetooth and versa vica.I'd like not to have to choose between using my wifi connection and bluetooth, any suggestions?" I have not yet determined whether my two functions are reversed but I will say that I did not know that you had to have the hardware switch as well as the (Fn + F5) software enabled for the wifi card to work..  My blue tooth device does not seem to work but will investigate later

Dear all,  About 2 years ago i upgraded my win 7 to win 10 version and wirelss stopped working. this problem is well known. Many attempts with netsh id config, reset IP, reinstall drivers, trough a USB whatever, nothing worked. I must conclude that the intel WIFI 5100 driver is incompatible with windows 10. I cannot anymore revert my win 10 upgrade sadly.  My question is whether i can install an older version or another driver type that is compatible on windows 10 ??? if so i would gladly have the driver link or zip file posted  Thanks PS, also my touchpad scrolling feature stopped working, i dont know if this could be related, just in case it could help figuring out where the problem is but i guess its just incompatibility.

I upgraded my T500 to Windows 7 Professional from Vista Business.  Since upgrading, I have been unable to obtain satisfactory WiFi connectivity.  Symptoms are that I cannot stream from either the internet or my local server without experiencing periodic interruptions and/or total drops.  I've tried reinstalling the driver, replacing the WiFi card itself, and adjusting the parameters associated with the adapter card.  Nothing seems to help.  I also own a T61 laptop which I also upgraded from Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional, and I have had no problems with WiFi connectivity on that machine.  It also has an Intel Wifi adapter but a different model.  Both laptops connect to my LAN and the internet through the same D-Link wireless access router. I'm beginning to suspect that the Windows 7 driver for this particular WiFi adapter is flawed.  Has anyone in this forum had a similar experience? Thanks in advance for your comments/assistance.
