Preferred Solution: updates fail to load error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I often receive a Microsoft Error message listing the errors that have failed. I click send now to MS and close window. And this happens quite a bit. Then when I try to update I'm told these files failed to update. Also it takes longer than it should to load pages on the web and videos stop playing after 2, 3 secs. Plus Word says framework is not connected. I do have a lot of programs on my system and I have 2 ext. HDs. Here are the files that won't upgrade. Can anyone assist me with this. I have a Dell 650 work station, running Windows XP.

windows updates will not load - when I try to load non-critical updates they seem to be copied to the machine but the update fails when it comes to updating the system.

Answer:Windows non-critical updates fail to load

Did ALL the updates you just tried to install fail to install, or only some of them ?If it was ALL of them, have you run a Repair installation of Windows procedure, and it was only after you did that the updates will not install ?(As in, you booted the computer from the XP CD, chose to run Setup, then chose "Repair your existing Windows installation" or similar, and Setup completed successfully.).......In any case, if it was ALL of the updates that failed to install, then you probably need to repair Registry entries for Windows Update related files....It would be a good idea to print the following text.E.g. Select the following text, RIGHT click on the highlighted area, select Copy, open Notepad, place your blinking cursor on it, RIGHT click , select Paste. In Notepad's top bar - File - Print.Or use Wordpad for a better display of the longer lines - Notepad can mess that up. Click Start, select Run and type the following:cmd (click OK or press Enter) net.exe stop wuauserv (press Enter)(stops the Windows Update service) regsvr32 wuapi.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wuaueng.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wucltui.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wups.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wups2.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wuweb.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 MSXML3.dll (press Enter) net.exe start wuauserv (press Enter) (starts the Windows Update service) Close the black Window.Restart the computer.Windows Update should then work fineYou can save yours... Helping a friend clean up and repair a Gateway laptop. Finally got internet web pages to load (ran Norton removal program) and resolved some other issues using Registry Repair. However, nothing seems to be working to allow ServicePack2 to load (followed some MS suggestions), and there is at least one .NET update for SP1 that loads but won't configure correctly, so OS reverts to previous configuration.

I've encountered an array of problems. To start, when I try to play an .avi file, real player and windows media player both encounter a fatal error. Thinking there may have been a windows update I went to update.microsoft.com to get updates. I was able to download all of the updates, but I could not install any of them. I tried to install them via express and custom updates on the website, via automatic updates, and virtually every other method I could think of. After researching the problem I came across similar problems with an array of solutions, including trying in safe mode, running sfc /scannow, uninstalling and reinstalling .net, shutting off and turning back on both automatic updates and cryptographic services, changing .dll files (lccwiz & pidgen), renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder, downloading one update at a time, and other things that I can't even begin to think of at this moment, obviously with no success, as well as running SpyBot, AdAware, and Norton. Below are some of the links that I came across to help with this problem:

I have two Windows 7 64 bit systems that worked perfectly until approx two weeks ago. They started becoming unresponsive to various websites, such as b1015.com (unable to listen live). Both computers then started having problems opening sites through google searches.

Following this, most updates on both computers fail. Downloads from the internet fail. Updating flash on one - failed. downloading .net framework update - failed.

One computer has MSE - updated and ran scan - no threats found
One computer has AVast - updated and ran scan - no threats found

Tried to download malwarebytes on the computer with avast - failed
went to XP station - downloaded to thumb drive and installed from thumb drive and ran  - no threats found

from cmd prompt -  ran sfc /scannow on both computers  -  no problems found

Can anyone give me any ideas of where to go from here to get both of these computers working properly again

The first place to start is are you getting any error messages when the updates fail? What do the messages state -- for example, do you get any error codes? Please post that information here.

I have Windows 7 Home edition; Microsoft updates are problematic, have had to download individually to get important security updates installed, not all have installed, computer takes ages to create a Restore point and then does not always succeed in reconfiguring at reboot after install. Got error code 643, Have Norton 360, tried downloading the Norton Power Eraser but this failed, and got error code 0x80070005, n44, n66.

Can anyone help? Spent last two days trying to install MS security updates one by one and the last two simply will not install.

Answer:Windows 7 updates fail, error code 643

Download and install Malwarebytes, get it up to date, and do a scan.  When the scan finishes, click Quarantine all.  After that boot to Safe Mode and do a full system scan with your antivirus.

If you still have problems after that, do this.
Please download and run Speccy.  After running it click File -> Publish snapshot... Copy and paste the link it gives you into your next post.  Then download minitoolbox and run it with the following boxes checked:
List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions, and Memory size
List Minidump files
Copy the resulting log and paste into a reply here.

Good luck.

I am using Vista Home Premium. My windows update program is failing to install 11 updates since 20/8/2007. They all fail with error code 80070426. I can't find any solution looking at the Microsoft site.I suspect that an action I took to fix another problem may have caused this one. I was away on holiday for the first 3 weeks of August and when I returned and started using my PC I found my CD/DVD RW drive and my external hard drive could not be accessed. I tried a system restore to the previous day but this did not work. Then I did a system restore to the start of August and this fixed the problem. It is possible these updates had been installed but in doing the system restore the record of the install was destroyed causing this problem.Any idea what I should do?

I have a Windows 7 Pro computer and the windows updates keep failing on it.  This is a 32 bit computer with 4 GB of RAM.  I've done some research already but none of the solutions seem to be working.  For example, I checked the language
packs in Control Panel but I'm not seeing any language packs installed.

Hi All,
I have in the past week been unable to install updates on my computer (HP Pavilion P6000 Series), running Windows 7 64 Bit Home Edition.
I am getting error codes:- 641,   80070641,   13EC.
I belive that these errors could indicate malware infection or file corruption (Windows Installer). I have run Kaspersky Internet Security (Latest Edition) and also I-Obit Advanced System Care 8. Both these have come up clean, and the problem is still there.
Any advice or solutions would be gratefully received. As it is now 23:11 UK time I am calling it a night, but will check back in tomorrow morning.
Thanks in advance.

The message ?Fail to load module C:\Users\Ron Wolpa\AppData\Local\Icdrsoft\hpboidps.DLL? pops up just after Win 8 starts up.
It started to happen after AVG anti virus cleaned a possible threaten.
I was about to remove from registry then , before doing stupid things , I made up my mind to post a message here ; it is located @ HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE > MICROSOFT > WINDOWS > CURRENT VERSION > RUN under the name ICDRSOFT and data : regsvr32.exe "C:\Users\Ron Wolpa\AppData\Local\Icdrsoft\hpboidps.DLL".
If deleting from registry is not the solution what else can be done ?
Thank you for your support.

Answer:fail to load error message just after windows 8 starts up

It is possible that the threat was a false positive and warrants more investigation.
Select a system restore point prior to when the problem started.

Once in a while, I would try to load an application, for example, a Setup.exe file to install Nero, but the mouse loading icon would display for a second or two, and then go back to normal again without the application starting. No error message whatsoever.

When I check the task manager, I can see the process has started, but I can't actually access the application. What could be the problem?

BTW, I'm using Windows XP.

Answer:Some applications fail to load, but no error message displayed

This is happening to me as well, but with almost every single application.

Machine type: Gateway DX4300-03 (desktop)
Operating System: Vista 64bit
Processor: AMD Phenom 9750 quad core

I recently used the built in restore provided by gateway, I picked the option to restore to factory defaults and save my data.

Upon attempting to apply the updates I am getting error code 80072F8F which states that there is an issue with time the machine not being correct. However, that is not the situation and the time is correct.

Next I tried to use the Microsoft repair update tool however it failed to run giving me the same error.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thread started here (and the BSOD's should now be resolved: Unknown BSOD on Mother-in-laws system

I had 2 problems in that thread, the second led me through a Google search back to this forum in another thread here: Windows Check for updates keeps running-all installation/updates fail

After completing the steps in post 83, the issue is now worse. Instead of getting to 18% of a elevated scannow, it goes straight to "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."

I have tried "Microsoft's System Update Readiness Tool" as advised here: Fix Windows Update and other problems with Microsoft's System Update Readiness Tool | Wilders Security Forums

I have the CBS log attached.

I have tried the solution here, however the key exists: Windows Modules Installer Error:126 - Microsoft Community

I have run Tweaking.com - Windows Repair to reset permissions, this hasn't helped.

Suggestions please.

Cheers

(kb3004375)
(kb3097966)

I have:

1. Ran SURT
2. Ran the SFC Scan
3. Error is as follows: windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800f0900: security update for windows 7 for x64-based systems (kb3097966).
Note: All 7 give the same message.
4. Zip of CBS is attached, however, I had to remove most of the CAB files that were in the CBS folder, due to the large file size. If the other files are necessary, please let me know how I can get them to you.

Thank you!

Each time the monthly quality rollups are downloaded and installed the update fails about 80-90% of the way.  The system reverts changes back and allows us to log back in.  The whole process starts again the next time an update is installed.
I have tried the following items:
1. Installed the Update Troubleshooter
2. Removed all of the "pending.xml" files
3. Booted to a clean state and retried the updates
4. Reset the Windows update system and renamed the SoftwareDistribution folder
5. Reviewed the CBS log file and found the following lines with Errors: (hopefully this will lead to a solution)

The following three updates fail with the same error code (80070490):

KB3004375
KB3004394

I already used SURT and SFC Scan, but didn't any errors and didn't fix the issue. Sorry I had to split the CBS logs due to the 8 Mbyte limit.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:3 Windows Updates Fail with error code 80070490

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file
- you didn't post the CheckSUR log?

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86
Add & Remove shows I have Microsoft Net Framework 3.5 SP1, Framework 4 Client Profile & Framework 4 Extended.
I would very much appreciate any help. I have spent all morning at the Microsoft Support site and am very confused.

Answer:Windows updates fail with Error Code: 0x80070645

Using Add/Remove Programs...uninstall 3.5, SP1...after uninstalling Framework 4. I suspect that one or both are damaged.

Then...reinstall 3.5, SP1 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7

I have multiple security updates failing each time they install but fail to configure upon reboot. The error associated with all the failed updates is 80071AA7 and I have exhausted my search on the microsoft support forum and have tried everything from installing in a clean boot to installing each one separately from their site. They seem to install fine but when I restart it gets to step 3 of 3 in configuration and fails and says it is reverting to before the updates. Some people I read had a problem that their computer would not start and was stuck in this loop but my computer just reverts the changes and allows me to sign back on but has the same updates waiting to be installed again. Any help would be appreciated! I have windows vista ultimate service pack 2, 32 bit on a Dell Vostro 1510;

these are the updates that are failing KB3003743, KB2993958, KB2992611, KB3010788, KB2991963, KB3005607, KB3006226, KB3002885, KB3003057, and Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2. I've tried reinstalling the microsoft Net frameowork via the support page on microsoft as well - no luck.Other updates for microsoft security essentials seems have succeeded (KB2310138)

Ran Windows Update on wife's computer today (Biostar A75-MH mobo, AMD A8-3850, 8Gb DDR3-1600, 64Gb Samsung 830 SSD boot drive, Win7 x64) and upon restart it froze at 35% installing the updates. After it did nothing for 30 min I rebooted. It boots to the desktop but with an error box saying failed to load sortbls.nlp. Explorer isn't working, can run any programs, Start menu won't come up, just sits with the blue circle spinning. Tried to run system restore but the 11-15 one disappeared from the list when I tried to run it and now just shows the only restore point as Windows Update Critical Update from today which fails. Startup Repair says no problems.

Any suggestions?

Sam

Good Afternoon!

I have a problem I am struggling with. I have had problems with failed Windows Updates for the past 3 months or so. I started a forum on answers.microsoft but this hasn't help - yet (the link is here Windows Updates fail - Error Codes: 80070643 and 8024200D - Microsoft Answers)

Short background - I tried the windows update troubleshooter and it did not work. I tried to perform a clean boot and install the updates, it also did not work. I was able to successfully install a few updates to the .NET Framework by completely un-installing it and then re-installing it (and double checking that it installed properly).

At the moment I have 17 updates that fail to install and they pretty much all deal with microsoft office 2010. The only two not related to microsoft office are:

Update for Windows 7 (KB2545698)
Update for Windows 7 (KB2547666)

I don't know what else to do and would really appreciate any help anyone could give me. I currently have Windows 7 Professional x64. I bought the computer in March of this year and have not made any major changes. The only updates I have are from Windows Updates and the last time they successfully installed (besides the .NET Framework I just fixed) was 21/10/11 and it was a hotfix for windows (KB2482122) problems really started around 19/07/2011 (more than a few updates failed).

Thanks everyone for your help!

Hello KDog,

Have just read through your post & referred to the "Microsoft Answers" link you gave.
The advice you received there is highly likely what you would get here.

Troubleshooting steps can be lengthy with little return in a situation like this.
We have had update problems here at the Forum where numerous pages of help / advice has been given with no positive outcome.

Please refer to the following 2 tutorials & see what you think.

Repair Install

Clean Install Windows 7

Have you a System Backup prior to your current set of problems?

Have you a windows 7 Disk?

Alternatively you could seek Microsoft Tech's Support.
I believe the email service is free.

I am unable to install updates on a Windows 7 Shuttle PC. There has not been a successful update since I first installed Windows 7 on the machine. The machine originally had Windows Vista on it. I Gparted, wiped the machine, and installed a clean Windows 7 onto the machine. Five months later, still unable to get a single update installed. I have had a wide variety of error messages in the five months including Windows was unable to check for updates automatically error 8007000e to the most recent 80240016. It says "Windows updates were installed: Never" and the last check for updates was 11/11/16. I left the computer run for an entire week as of today with the VGA Cable unplugged in hopes that it would be restarted for updates, which means that it took Windows an entire 6 days to even check for updates. The computer was not restarted and when I tell Windows to install the 976 MB of updates, immediately when I click "install updates" it failed as soon as I clicked "install updates" Trusted Installer says it is occupying more than 2GB of ram but the number does not change at all and is using 0% CPU. It seems that Trusted Installer is hung. If I end process on Trusted Installer, I get a "Operation could not be completed. Access is denied"

Answer:G580 windows 8 updates fail with error code 8007371B

hi parvaz,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try pulling up a run box (Windows key + R)
then type services.msc

You will have a list of Services, look for Nalpeiron Licensing Service or any entry that has Nalperion
Right click on it and choose properties.

You should have an option to stop it and choose the Startup type to Disabled

Now run Msconfig and  look for the Nalperion service and disabled it aswell Under Services and Startup tab.

After Restart Try the updates again,
If still failed
Perform a Clean Boot and try the updates again

Regards
Solid Cruver

I had already installed, successfully I might add, a Definitions update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB3115321). The Update already installed and now it keeps coming up with the same error unable to install update:
Definition Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB3115321) 32-Bit Edition - Error 0x80070643
I tried uninstalling the installed update and Windows won't do it returning an "Unspecified error" response. I have Windows 10 Home (32bit) installed and I cannot find a way to get Update, as you used to be able do, to HIDE the offending update. (THANKS Microsoft for removing functionality from Windows YET AGAIN).
I'm at my wits end with this. . I have asked about this problem before directly reporting the issue to Microsoft (Surprise surprise... NO RESPONSE. I'd get a better response from a brick wall). Seriously not happy; considering cutting my losses and reverting (AS I STILL HAVE MY INSTALL DISCS) to Windows 7 or moving to Linux. Way to go to p**s off users!

download TFC by Old Timer TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer - Geeks to Go Forums and save it to your desktop.
Save any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!
Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista/Windows 7 right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator.
Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.

TFC (Temp File Cleaner) will clear out all temp folders for all user accounts (temp, IE temp, java, FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari), including Administrator, All Users, LocalService, NetworkService, and any other accounts in the user folder. It also cleans out the %systemroot%\temp folder and checks for .tmp files in the %systemdrive% root folder, %systemroot%, and the system32 folder (both 32bit and 64bit on 64bit OSs). It shows the amount removed for each location found (in bytes) and the total removed (in MB). Before running, it will stop Explorer and all other running apps. When finished, a reboot is required the user must reboot to finish clearing any in-use temp files.

Hey Guys,

Just recently I have being receiving error messages when I start up my laptop every day.
There has never been any problems with my laptop until now, although it doesn't really affect the laptop at all it still pops up?

I get an error message when I move to the desktop that says "BIOS Load Fail" but then i can close it and nothing happens to my computer. I am running Windows 8.1 and I just installed the new Toshiba Service Station Apps. I also checked to see if the BIOS was up to date, and it was.

Any help here? It would be much appreciated, thanks.

Just an update: I just tried to open up my GPU tweaking software, and it can't open because the Error Message shows up. But my CPU monitor still works.

Answer:Satellite P870/026 - BIOS Load Fail Error Message popups

> I get an error message when I move to the desktop that says "BIOS Load Fail" but then i can close it and nothing happens to my computer. I am running Windows 8.1 and I just installed the new Toshiba Service Station Apps

Could it be possible that this alert (message) is coming from the Service Station utility?

The service station software allows your computer to automatically search for TOSHIBA software updates or other alerts from toshiba that are specific to your computer system and its programs. When enabled, this application periodically transmits to our servers a limited amount of system information required to perform these updates or alerts.

Probably the message ?BIOS load fail? means that service station was not able to download (load) the information about the latest available BIOS.
From my point of few this is not a serious problem. If you want try to uninstall the service station tool from the system just to check if this would cancel the notification

Hi, l've been having a constant issue with my computer and I can't seem to get out of this trouble no matter how many times I reinstall and even wipe out my hard drive.

I wiped out everything in my hard drive and installed windows 7 Ultimate for the '7th' time, and the same problems happen every single time.

Right after the install, it seems to work fine but as I install numerous windows updates as it recommended (almost forced me to, 'cause it does automatically), my computer becomes so slow in everything.

It doesn't start up, the menu and such looks as if I'm in a safe mode (blocky and old looking) even if I manage to start it up, have to wait more than 15min or even 1hr for it to respond.

The situation I'm having now is, the pop up message saying:
"Failed to connect to a windows service: windows couldn't connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This prevents standard user from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond"

Also, the computer has been failing at installing several updates such as:
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2763523)(KB2719857)(KB2735855)(KB2750841)(KB2732059)

Because of that, it sometimes ran chkdsk on the boot screen and deleted/fixed files.

I don't think it's ... Read more

I'm usually pretty savvy when it comes to de-virusing a computer, but this one has got me completely stumped.

I recently noticed a browser hijack where in all browsers, any result from yahoo.com is redirected to porn. Also, every update (anti-malware application download, update, or windows kb download, or windows update) will fail, sometimes with a DNS failure, sometimes with a 404 at all times.

I have tried to download

Ad-Aware (updates fail, returns 404)
AVG Antivirus (updates fail, dns times out)
Avira AntiVir (updates fail, returns 404)
Microsoft Windows Update fails to open (just redir's back to windows update)
Microsoft KB Downloads (Service Pack 3, various KB patches return 404)

Can anyone help identify this? I updates avira, and avg manually (via a cd from another computer) and they say the computer is clean. All Conficker scan tools say the computer is clean. Microsoft live onecare says the computer is clean.

I also add that I'm going to format & reinstall, but I would really like to know what I have (had) so that when I am trying to recover data from the old HDD I don't reinfect myself.

Thanks in advance. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have never posted on a forum before so apologies if I am doing this wrong. The problem started when I tried to plug in my (new) iphone to my Dell pc. The device was not detected so I tried to update my itunes software - update failed and I received a Windows 7 error. After searching through multiple forums and trying to download windows utility cleaner, etc - nothing has helped. Also, if I try to run the 'Check for Updates" link on my computer - if NEVER stops searching for updates and there for I cant update anything. Not sure where to start

Answer:Windows Check for updates keeps running-all installation/updates fail

Let's start with the easy stuff

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Hello, I've recently been trying to download and install Windows Live Mail. That part was easy, however, upon opening the program, I receive error messages. The first one says, "Sorry, something unexpected happened and Windows Live Mail must close, your most recent changes may not be saved." Then another error box is displayed stating, "Contacts failed to load. Windows Live Mail is incorrectly configured, please re-install." I've uninstalled and reinstalled this program several times, but still not sure why I am receiving these errors. I did edit the registry, deleting the keys for all Windows Live folders insuring a complete uninstall, then reinstalled a fresh download of Windows Live Mail but STILL got the same error messages. I also tried to clear the Live Contacts Store/Cache by renaming the Live contacts folder so a new one would be replaced. Still nothing...This is getting frustrating...Anyone have any other suggestions?  Thanks!

I have had a problem with updates failing for a couple months. I have worked with both HP and Microsoft's Vista support teams to no avail. i have tried five or six different methods at the request of the HP and MS support teams to overcome this problem.

i consistently get messages that "Host Proces for Windows Services stopped working and was closed" and that windows will notify me if a solution is available.

the updates generate an error WindowsUpdate_800706BA.

Windows Update does not work, Windows Media Center updates do not work, and now the HP Printer updates no longer work. I'm kind of hanging open here without any of the security patches, OS fixes, and other updates.

any new suggestions would be welcomed!! My MS support guys just stopped responding to my replies about three weeks ago. i fear i'm at the end of his script!!

Or perform a recovery? Or quit Insiders and rejoin sort of speak? Insiders ISO file?
My Asus tablet and Lumia 435 is and always has been on fast ring...never a problem like this. I would like my Lenovo on fast ring.

Lenovo Miix 300 tablet on stable release {Anniversary update}?

My windows updater asks me to update and I agree. Then time after time it tells me I failed.

I had a surprise when looking at my updates that all 32 bit ones fail and all 64 bit updates succeed. That seems to be the pattern. I provide attachments. I note many important updates fail and that worries me.

I ran the fix it troubleshooter.
Any ideas on resolving the update problem?

Answer:64 bit updates succeed 32 bit updates fail

Hello and welcome robaa mate I don't know why you are getting the 32bit stuff someone cleverer than me might know.

But a little tip I learnt yesrday is to download smaller batches of updates - when they come up untick them all (top box) and then tick a batch at a times and you might need to get the readiness tool

Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [November 2012] from Official Microsoft Download Center

Ah I see most of it is Office stuff - oops - still the same thing goes I just did a Vista a machine with the same problem - Office updates.

Hello, please help me with the following issue.

One of the program that I used to operate a laboratory machine, AB 7300 (real time PCR) failed to load in normal mode but could be loaded in safe mode. The problem started to occur after I send the machine for repair. Apparently the problem was related to a loose computer cable but the technician also cleaned my registry file.

All the other programs could load normally. The OS is Windows XP SP 2 with the latest updates installed. The computer has an intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.40 GHz 3.39 GHz, 2GB RAM. I also have Bitdefender standard 9 antivirus, Zone Alarm Pro firewall ver 7.0.337 and AVG 7.5 anti-spyware. The machine is regularly scanned for virus anti spyware. the 7300 program was able to run previously even with these firewall/antivirus/antispyware running.

Using selective startup mode (by opening the msconfig.sys), the 7300 program could load even when all the SYSTEM.INI, WIN.INI, System services and startup Items are enabled. However, the program failed to load when the computer was started using the original BOOT.INI.

Thank you

I'm using XP and just did a recovery console for XP to recover a vital file. Now when I start my computer, it sits at the desktop loading for about five minutes. After five minutes, all the programs in the tray will load simultaneously. Then when I try to go to My Computer, control panel, help & support, etc., all the icons will disappear from the desktop and then reload after a few seconds, and thats it, nothing actually loads up. Also, with some programs, I will try to open it, hear the noise that an error message would make (but don't actually get a message) and then it just sits at the desktop as if I hadn't clicked anything. But some programs, such as Sony Vegas and Soundforge will load and run perfectly well. What should I do?

Question: Facebook Load Fail

Hi all,

Tried to log in to facebook today which failed to load completely.
Only the topmost blue bar shows with the buttons but when clicked, does not load to any URL.

Searched for fixes from around the web like adding 's' to 'http', which does not count for me for I had been on the 'https' setting even before. Ran Avira and cleared my caches and temporary file with CCleaner to no avail.

My PC is up to date on everything including malware and spyware detectors its just that I am not the only one using my PC. My cousins and sibling go to sites that I don't always see.

I suspect phishing and am contemplating on running the battery of anti-malware software but I thought I need more advice before proceeding.

Specs:
- Browser: Google Chrome
- Processor: Pentium Dual Core E5800 @ 3.20 & 3.19 GHz
- RAM: 2 GB
- System: Windows 7 32-bit Starter SP 1

P.S. Might be of help: Avira detected and alerted of a virus sometime ago while my cousin is playing some facebook game. I said to remove it but my cousin had already cancelled it before I could intervene.

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual update Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

The Device Manager says those problematic devices couldn't work because their drivers fail to load.

This problem is new, i don't think i have so many net adapters before.

Can anyone give a reasonable explanation?

Thanks.

Answer:Just take a look at this. Why do drivers fail to load

I dont know if this is related to your specific problem, I also have been having significant driver issues with Vista and this is the closest thing I could find on it. Its not limited to USB devices

I very rarely use the drives, owing to using my laptop frequently, but yesterday I tried to run a disc and got the window 'put a disc into the drive'. As stated above the drive did have a disc. I then tried the other drive and got the same error. Then other discs that I have used before but same answer. The drives light is working and I can hear the drives trying to play. Any one with the swimple explanation please. I am running a windows XP Home platform and the computer is 15 months old.

Hi, I'm having a problem on my Hp Pavilion laptop. It is running windows vista, and im connected to the internet via my wireless linksys router. However, sometimes, for certain websites, they are not loading. I can easily access the web but for some reason these websites give me a "oops, google chrome cannot connect", same thing with the other browsers i tried, firefox and ie. Obviously i know there is a problem, because when I go onto my desktop computer, or my other netbook, this website works perfectly fine. I have run two virus scans on my computer and they have come up clean, so i do not think it is a virus. I really want to be able to go on these websites on my laptop... help please?

Question: updates fail

after 3 weeks of successful Win 10, now when I start up, i get the message that Update installations have failed. The program continues, but also now my computer is moving at snail's pace.
With Win 7, I could find Windows Update easily and manually install updates. With Win 10, I can't seem to find the source of Updates.
Help, please.

An HP z800 computer with an unused, new Windows 7 Pro.
I started off with upgrading and the upgrade kept running with no results. I then created a restore point. Then I uninstalled the few updates already on the computer except the uninstallable Update patch. I ran again the update - and it keeps running.

I then opted for the Windows 10 upgrade. The Windows 10 upgrade is running with no advance to completion.

I don't know what to do. This install is OEM - I do have a HP 3 set Windows 7 Pro restore cd's I could use however I shouldn't have to do this. It's all new and fresh the OS and the machine.

I am inclined to installing retail Windows 7 Pro - that is familiar territory.

PS I bought for the company two of the HP Z800 - the first one I updated and so forth - no hitch. Then I run into this difficulty. Let me know your thoughts if there may be a fix. At least I have the restore that can take me back to when I started this adventure.

Question: Win 7 Updates fail

I have a 2010 vintage ThinkPad X200 running Win 7 64.  Togther with a large number of other users of Win 7 I started having problems with Windows Update in January and battled on using various techniques published on various Forums with some siccess.  However, since April I have not been able to get any of these tricks to work and have had no updates.  Windows Updates just keeps looking for updates forever (I have actually run for 24 hours) and many of the suggested fixes start by searching for updates on the computer and also never get anywhere. In desperation, I am just wondering if there are any problems particularly associated with the ThinkPad.  If anyone else has had a similar experience I would love to hear how they overcame  these problems.

Question: XP updates fail

About a week ago I downloaded a movie poster from a site and McAfee went nuts catching one trojan after another. When the bells stopped and things were cleaned, I was left with many adware programs automatically installed on my XP Pro SP2 system. I used Ad-Aware, MS AntiSpyware Beta, Panda, XOFTSpy, and Registry Mechanic to remove the stuff... nearly 20 of the things. It worked fine and I am back in business.

However, I can no longer acquire XP updates. The MS Windows update site downloads the file and then tells me it failed during installation without any reason given. I have reloaded XP (original disk using sfc /scannow) and then reloaded SP2 from a Microsoft CD that I have. Nothing is able to be downloaded from this update location. I can find files elsewhere on the Microsoft site and they download and install (like WINPLAYER 10).

I am running out of ideas.....I was told by a local computer talk show host to do something with WINSOCK and then LSPFIX and it would be available from this forum. I am a little confused as to exactly what my next step should be.

My Windows installer is 3.1 v2 and I have Microsoft.NET Framework version 1.1 (not SP1) installed. I have dropped the AdWatch plug in from Lavasoft AdAware but this does not fix the problem. Any ideas?

Answer:XP updates fail

You can try winsockfix.exe but not sure if this will help as you seem to be to have a network connection. It can be found here:
http://www.goesp.com/downloads/Softw...nsock%20fixer/

Check your system time and make sure it's current...I have had Win Updates not work due to this...

Also, you might want to post in the security section of TSF, it's possible that you still may have uglies in your system.

My wife was given my daughter's very old Compaq R3000 laptop (Win XP Pro) about 2 years ago. All she does with it is e-mail (Outlook Express) and view Web pages from links in e-mails. It falls to me to keep the computer updated, malware free, and running.

Yesterday I did a Microsoft Update check. It found 21 updates, mostly small security updates. After downloading them, "Preparing to install. . ." appears and is immediately replaced by an error message saying "Some updates were not installed. . ." Fact is, all 21 updates failed to install. As a clue to the updates in question, the first 4 updates are KB2876217, 2893294, 2892075, and 2898715.

I have tried disabling AVG and the firewall; have done scans with Malwarebytes; have done a chkdsk /r on the HD; have re-registered Windows (using "regsvr32 wuapi.dll", etc.); tried "net stop WuAuServ", renaming /Software Distribution folder to /SDOld and restarting WuAuServ; and have run a system file check (sfc /scannow) with the original Win XP Pro CD . No problems are found and no commands allow the updates to succeed.

What's wrong?

Answer:Win xp sp3 updates fail

Do you have any firewalls and/or antivirus software running? Perhaps one of these apps updated itself and now is somehow blocking the updates. You can also try running the Windows Update repair in Dial-A-Fix. It's a great free program, but i can look a bit intimidating if you're not familiar with what it's doing. Don't worry, it is completely safe and it cannot cause any problems. It does not remove or replace or write anything to/from your system, it merely checks and repairs the status of files already on your system. So, you can actually check all the boxes in the Dial-A-Fix window and safely click "GO" and it will do its thing. It's a great little program to run once every month or two just to be sure things are as they should be.... one other thing to try: click Start, click Run, type netstop wuauserv and click OK. Then go to My Computer and browse to C:\Windows\Software Distribution; rename this folder to Software Distribution-OLD or something similar. Then again click Start, click Run and type netstart wuauserv and click OK. Then try your Windows Updates again.... if none of these things work, let us know and we'll try some others... good luck!

Question: updates fail

Using Windows Vista Home Premium

Here is the situation: (First started having problem in September)
Updates are downloaded OK
Message says Updates are successfully installed
Asked to restart now
Restart begins and "configuring updates" process begins
Goes thru 3 stages - each stage completes 100%
Then continues shutting down
Then message appears "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer."
Then attempts to configure updates a second time with same failure - message appears again "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer."
Finally completes the reboot but update history shows updates as "failed"

This process usually takes 30 to 40 minutes.

I am gradually getting more concerned about not being able to install updates because most of the failed updates are "important" and many deal with security. My PC seems to run OK without these updates (for the time being) but I am afraid that I will eventually run into problems without updates.

I have temporarily turned off my firewall but that did not help. I ran System Mechanic but that did not fix. I contacted Smart Computing support and they sent me here for help.

Question: Updates fail

HELP!!

My laptop won't install the automatic updates. Well, it installs them, and when I boot again, they are being removed by the automatic system recorvery.
Furthermore, when I want to install SP1 via Windows Update, it runs, my status bar goes full ..... and nothing happens. I can click only on the button: Stop installing. Even after a night waiting :-)

Here are the updates and there error codes:
KB952287, KB943729, KB953839 -> error 80242016
KB951072 -> error 80072F78
KB955020, KB950582, KB951066, KB905866, KB953838, KB950974, KB953733 -> error 800F0816
SP1 (KB936330) -> error 800706BE.

I've read various threads all over internet, but no help was found.
I can't get in touch with MicroSoft, as my software is OEM installed by Dell. And the solution from Dell is: reinstall Windows Vista ... yeah, right.

So, if anyone knows how I can solve my update, I will be most gratefull.

I use G Data Notebook Security as my firewall and virusscanner.

Cheers,
Anton.

Answer:Updates fail

You can contact Microsoft about the SP1 problem, they have a free unlimited support. They maybe able to help, once you can get SP1 you may have an easier time with the other updates.

https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?ln=en-us&x=8&y=7&prid=11274&gprid=500921

Although Dells recommendation of re-installing, maybe the way you want to go. Then right away before you install anything else (besides the os and drivers) you'll want to install SP1. Most people recommend installing SP1 as soon as you can, because Antiviruses and other programs can cause problems.

Middle of last month the following would not update & after several days of this - I Hid the files. KB3003057, KB2993958, KB3002885, KB3003743
So it kept trying to upgrade.

Update began 12/10 & each day laptop tried to install all & they all failed:
KB3013126, KB3014406 (but today12/15 I upgraded these 2 individually & this time they installed)
KB2952664, KB3008923 -(still failed even when I tried to upgrade individually)
So I hid these 2

#1 Question - what causes this & can this be fixed.

#2 Question - Can I use my sister's 'system repair disk' to override mine.
- We have the same type laptop but she got hers a month after I bought mine. The only difference I could tell was that she has a different type keyboard than mine (& wondered why hers cost $25 more than mine.) But since I've found out that she has No problems with her Windows 7 upgrade. So did she get a better copy than I - & that's why I want to see if I can just use her 'system repair disk' - if it would work...

Answer:Updates often 'Fail'

Her "Startup Repair" is the same as yours. Instead of that, run sfc /scannow.

I have tried disabling AVG and the firewall; have done scans with Malwarebytes; have done a chkdsk /r on the HD; and have run a system file check (sfc /scannow) with the original Win XP Pro CD . No problems are found, but still the updates fail.

Why?

Answer:Updates fail

XP does this sometimes.

It will download them and ready for installation yet it still offers you them in Windows Update.

A simple restart should do the trick.

First off why does every newer version of Windows make it harder for the average user to use? No need to answer that since I already know.

I keep getting failed updates, sometimes shut down my comp and it waits to do updates, get home from work and it's still trying. I tried downloading the fix it tool, it does something but I never see what it does, there is no actual program but maybe there isn't one, the instructions don't say. I've tried to check for updates, it shows 9, one that is optional. I select all and click okay and then it just reverts back to the screen that says click to update Win 10, almost like I clicked cancel instead of ok. I select one and it does the same thing. Why would I want 10 when I'd rather still have XP that I never had a problem with.

edit: I wasn't sure if this belonged in a software forum, but since it affects the entire system, I figure it should go here.

We noticed that this particular PC in our office would not update current pricing for a specific bid software that this exclusive company uses. After trying to troubleshoot it, I decided to uninstall and reinstall, but the reinstall isn't ever successful because an error pops up stating that there are older system files that need to be updated. It then says click OK and the setup will update these files. I have done that several times, but the installation is never successful.

I then noticed that Microsoft Windows Update fails everytime too. Also, our CA Security Suite Plus 2009 fails everytime too.

Any ideas?

Question: updates fail

So after about a year of not getting to update windows and having it keep telling me windows need to be activated. Windows goes, you are activated you have 138 updates. So after about 2 GB of updates only about half get installed and says the others have failed.

Answer:updates fail

Install drivers according to your hardware from their repsective manufacturers. Check device manager and devices and printers for any yellow exclamation marks indicating a particular driver you need.

When installing windows updates, only do important ones for now, and only install about 5-10 at the top at a time.

Aside from all of that, activating windows is very important. I had a computer that wouldn't activate windows because the hardware couldn't take the (complete) installation of windows (meaning it messed up). I bought a new CPU and then the installation and activation went perfect. But really it could be anything. are you saying windows automatically deactivates?

Hello, I'm not that computer literat but please bear with me. I recently added some new hardware to my 6 month old computer (2x2 gigs of ram and a 1T hard drive). I had my computer off and unplugged, added the ram and hard drive, then plugged my computer back in. I started my computer and while Vista was loading I all of a sudden got a BSOD saying:
Stop: C000021a {fatal system error}

The initial session processor system terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0Xc0000001 0X00100490)
The system has been shut down

After a few more tries of starting it normally, I tried it once with safe mode and it stopped loaded at "crcdisk.sys" and after a bit it would BSOD to the same screen

After starting it up again I selected the option to run the comouter with a previous setting that had a succesful boot, and it went to an error saying that the NLS data was missing or corrupt with an error saying "0Xc0000225"

After I went back to the screen where you have the option to start in safe mode or normal mode, and it said at the top that Windows had failed to load and that if it was due to a hardware change to put in the Vista CD and click on fix my computer, so I tried that. After it tried to fix itself it said that it couldnt automatically fix it. I tried doing a system restore to several differnt points which all didnt work because the system restore couldnt find the file "0X80070002"

If anyone has a solution to help me I would be very gr... Read more

I was trying to solve some graphics issues by the errors i was getting in the Services pane.

I started looking into a few more and when looking for a hidden file, i must of selected something that "hid" or deleted my user account, and at first glance, all my desktop icons

Now on boot up i visually have 1/2 the files i would have in my C drive (memory of them is still there), and just about every program fails to boot, says its currently running, or tells me its missing files.
It may just be programs on my C drive, programs located on my second drive boot and run fine.

Now i just did a system restore point to a few hours ago, wayy before i did any of this stuff. my files are back (mostly) my desktop is still bare, and my programs still wont load

any ideas?

Thanks

Answer:[SOLVED] Some programs fail to load

I have found my own solution, i tried googling for random symptoms and came up with someone telling me to,

"Go to your C drive icon, right click to properties, check "hidden" then apply, and wait for it to do that. Then immediatly after, uncheck the hidden box and hit apply."

Seems maybe last time when i un-hid folder and hid them not all were selected, leaving me with half the files missing and half working.

I'm a Windows Xp user.

When I first on my computer, Windows fail to load and then it reboots and the black screen asking me to load in safe mode, last good config, load windows normally will appear.

I have tried every option but my computer will just reboot and bring me back to the black screen with the same options. Sometimes, after selecting one of the options, my computer will freeze and i will have to manually reboot my computer.

I have to repeat this process for many times trying different options before I can start windows successfully.

I have tried to unplug all my usb ports connecting to printer/scanner.. Reinstall windows for 2 times.

This seems to happen each day, for the very first time I on my computer and since my computer is out of warranty, I want to try to 'fix' it my self if possible before I call in the techs.

Answer:Windows fail to load, reboots

any luck??

Hi there,

I am having trouble starting my PC. It gives the error "Fail to load msgina.dll. Contact System Admin. to replace the file", something like this.

I cannot boot even in safe mode or by command prompt. My XP setup CD loads the files, but after completing loading its files, it restarts without continuing the setup. So I cannot repair my XP files.

How can I replace or restore 'msgina.dll' file from my XP CD to the System folder?

Answer:Solved: Fail to load msgina.dll

Dunno if this is the right place for this type of prblem, I dont know much at all about this stuff. I tried searching around but I only found stuff about this with different drivers.

My problem is I just rebooted my pc yesterday, and after logging into windows and getting to the desktop, there was ared msg that popped up from avast antivirus saying it couldnt update or something, then it my pc rebooted, ever since after I logged into windows there was a sound like you hear when you get an error message, then my pc rebooted or crashed, and it keeps happening, I used safe mode and looked at the event viewer and it says:

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
Aavmker4
FileDisk
Fips
NPPTNT
Processor

I went to the link it says to goto for more information but it only says to verify you have the latest drivers and stuff, i'm not sure how to do that or even what drivers I have..

My main concern is, is this a something that can be fixed, or can it be a hardware problem and my pc is just screwed, its pretty old though, like 5 years or so, never had any problems like this before :x.

Answer:start driver fail to load

a search on this listed that many causes it made your head swim
boot into the recovery console and run first
chkdsk /r
then try
fixboot
it could be virus or malware related if the above does not work do the five steps

No matter what browser I use some webpages will not open. I usually get the following error code:

An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions 184.172.52.99:80

For some websites the IP address will be different but the port will still be the same.

I tried the following:

1. Flushed DNS cache
2. Disabled Firewall and AntiVirus
3. Opened port 80 in Windows Firewall both TCP and UDP
4. Through cmd I reset the TCP/IP
5. Changed DNS servers back to default (I was using OpenDNS servers) then flushed DNS cache again
6. Added the URL to the whitelist in my account in OpenDNS

None of these has resolved the issue. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which websites I get this error message on. I would appreciate any help anyone could give me. Thank you in advance.

Hey I've got an annoying problem here. I use Google Chrome and I signed up to Hack Forums the other day but whenever I click on a thread, and threads only, they fail to load. So it'll go on the page but it won't show the page, just a white screen and a never ending loading circle on the tab. This is the ONLY website this is happening to and I logically can't think of why it's happening or how to fix it. I've tried emptying the cache and deleting cookies and nothing, it just refuses to load. Can someone please shed some light on this?

Thanks

Answer:Threads fail to load in Chrome

Based upon what I know Chrome is suppose to be the fastest, but not always compatible with every site.
Try IE and see if that works.

Thanking you in anticipation

Answer:Windows update that fail to load

Try to restore your computer before the updates were downloaded using system restore. You can then download them again.

If you need more information on how to do a system restore just ask.

Good Luck

Hi guys,
I need help..
I've been using winxp sp2 for about 4 years now, I rarely use my desktop pc so after about 2 months since the last use, I started it just now.
The keyboard is not working, I checked the device manager and the property says, the driver fail to load, missing or corrupted.
- Uninstall and install didn't work
- Safe mode didn't work
- replacing keyboard didn't work
the keyboard only work in bios (at least that means it is not broken).

I read somewhere here about similar problem but that one is on laptop and related to bad battery, well mine is desktop. On some other source I checked, it could be related to registry or something, not sure.
I'm a novice user.

anybody can help? If there has been a post somewhere regarding similar problem, kindly point me to the right direction.
appreciate it, thanks! :)
