Preferred Solution: Can I set Windows Photo Gallery to display 2 or more photos side-by-side?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a question. But after I ask it I hope that someone does not respond by saying something like, "Well you dumb a**, that's what we've been trying to tell you." In Windows 7, I was taking a tutorial which made it necessary to have two and sometimes three windows open and displayed side by side. Maybe it wasn't necessary, but it make it much easier to do. I can't do that in Win 8. Is it because I'm not doing something right, or is it because it can't be done.

Answer:display windows side by side

Hello Frank1 (Good Morning)

If you need any number of multi concurrent windows open logically, you can right click on the taskbar and select to cascade windows or uncascade windows or SHOW windows side by side or stacked.

Spanking new A100-PSAANE (on Vista Premium Home Edition) problems:

1) LCD display -
Suddenly the display starts moving sideways as if you are in a merry-go-round and everything is running sideways! When I close the lid and open it again all is well and the display is exactly the same as it was before the problem started!

2) Hitting the scroll bar causes restore -
Quite often hitting the scroll bar causes that window to restore and clicking the same again causes the window to return to maximize.

Anyone knows the solution to these please???

Answer:Satellite A100 PSAANE: display moves from side to side

Your issues sound very strange and therefore it would be very interesting to know some more details;

Regarding point 1.) Do you mean the whole display or the single windows??
Did you try to change the screen resolution??? What graphic driver do you use???

Regarding point 2.) What scrollbars do you mean exactly??? Did you mean the ?internet explorer? window scrollbars or the "Windows Explorer" scrollbars???

Finally it would be very interesting to know if these issues happen on fresh recovered Vista OS. I would like to know if the same happens on notebook with factory settings!!

First of all, sorry if this doesn't belong here guys.

So guys, I'm looking for "tv box" style device that would let me show 2 completely different video inputs on a single display either side by side or top/bottom.

After looking online, one of the first results were from a company called Colorado Video, and this is their most recent product:

Split Screen mode allows portions of each of two pictures to be displayed in a corresponding portion of a video display. This mode can split a video image, wipe or display two video images or a dual video image, one image over the other, top to bottom, or side by side, to make portions of each viewable on a single monitor. Images from two cameras can be displayed on one video monitor. This adjustable video screen splitter can split an image, mix, wipe, overlay or switch an image or display from two different high definition video sources, creating dual video images or pictures on one screen or monitor. A front panel control selects whether the screen is split horizontally or vertically. A control knob determines the proportion of the screen allocated to each source, adjustable from 0% to 100%. The user can freeze either of the inputs and either input can be viewed exclusively by push of a button.

It looks great and all that, but the device costs around $1400, do you guys by any chanc... Read more

Answer:2 different inputs shown side by side on a single display?

If you're willing to settle for something like PIP on a TV, you can save yourself a lot of money. That's the only "just works" solution I can come up with, but you don't have any real flexibility in the size and placement of the second image. You could probably also cobble something together with a video capture card, but when you factor in how much time you spend on putting it together, you probably haven't really saved any money.

Hi, I've started getting a strange 'pale' line or banding down the very left side of my printed photos. I first noticed it on a night shot (see link below) and then on the other one link below, a daytime one.

All the ink cartridges are full or almost full and I've done nozzle check and head cleaning. It doesn't show up on a greyscale B&W print I did (or at least not that I could notice).

It's on the leading edge, the part of the image being printed first when using the full size paper eg. A4, 10x15cm.

On a whim while writing this I just tried printing a 7"x5" image in the middle of a sheet of A4 and there was NO banding. Same result with a margin of 2cm rather than the default 0.5cm.
With the 0.5cm default margin, it's like whatever is going on only affects the next 0.5cm of the paper (the first 0.5cm of the printed image).

Is this a paper-feed thing then?
Any ideas how to solve it to avoid wasting lots of paper?
Other than this the printer, whilst old, is still very good

I am trying to fix my friends computer which is having several weird issues. When you login everything appears to be normal but Windows loads to a black screen with a cursor. Ctrl + Alt + Del to task manager and I can run explorer.exe to restore the desktop. However the problem now is once your at the desktop all programs when you try to run them pop up with an application failed to run side-by-side configuration is incorrect. these problems are not apparent when the computer is ran in safe mode, but I can not figure out what to do. I checked the registry HKLM software windows nt logon and explorer.exe is the value.
Malwarebytes when ran in safe mode does not detect anything either.

Answer:windows logs in to a black screen, programs have side by side config

Some possibilities: this application failed to start because side-by-side-configuration is incorrect

Was this computer upgraded from Vista to Windows 7? If so that may be the cause. You can try doing a Repair Install of Windows 7 to see if that corrects the problem.

With the introduction of the new and clever 'Snap' functions, two basic functions for organising the desktop seem to have been lost. I and others have tried asking the MS Community, but are struggling to find the vocabulary needed to ask the question, and are getting only non-answers.
So, I will try here..Questions:Noting that these very basic features have been available in all previous versions and editions of MS Windows:
1. How do I now, in W10, get two desktop app windows (DAWs) to share the desktop equally? This used to be achieved by having two DAWs active, and then selecting 'Show windows side by side'. Now, in W10, selecting 'side by side' results only in a cramped tiling of active windows.
2. How do I now, in W10, get DAWs to 'remember' their last setting of size and position, such that re-opened DAWs will open with the same size and position that they had when last closed?
3. Could someone give a direct answer to these two questions, providing the solutions as steps to be taken in W10 - or, will someone confirm that these features are no longer available, in W10?
Two windows, one desktop, i.e.: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx... Read more

Answer:Updated: W10 App Windows: 'Side by Side', & Setting Default Size/Position..

If you drag App1's title bar all the way to the left side of the screen, it'll "snap" to the left. The same for App2; drag the title bar all the way to the right side of the screen for it to "snap" to the right. (This can also be done using the keyboard short cut "Win + left/right arrow")
The old function for right clicking on the task bar and selecting "cascade windows, show side by side, etc" is still there, but now it allows for more open windows, and depends on your screen size.
As far as I can tell, open windows do remember their last position.

Hi there,

So in XP one was able to select open windows from the taskbar via holding CTRL and left clicking on each one, then right clicking and tile / arrange vertically the selected windows...

In windows 7 I cant seem to do it automatically. Yes i can do it manually with three or more windows, but i shouldnt have to.

I cant get three or more windows to tile next to each other, i can only get two windows to go side by side via the snap feature.

Any ideas on how to get three or more windows side by side semi-automatically?

Thanks for reading.

I downloaded and installed Ubuntu and sectioned off a part of my hard drive for it. I intended to have it set up to run both windows 7 and linux together and let me choose which boot disk I wanted to use at start up. Ubuntu took over and so I read through some forums online. I can now get to the Windows 7 loading screen but it freezes there. I have my install disc and was hoping someone could assist me with getting windows 7 back. I do not care if I loose Ubuntu. I am currently sitting with the Administrator: X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe from the System Recovery Options Menu with my Windows 7 Disc in the tray. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated (if i can save my HD great if not I can live with that).

Answer:Unable to boot Windows after installing linux to run side by side

You'll need to boot System Recovery Options to run Startup Repair repeatedly.

Make sure the Win7 partition or its 100mb System Reserved partition (preferred) is marked Active first: Partition - Mark as Active (Method Two)

If this fails after three separate repair attempts with reboots using DVD or Repair CD, boot free Partition Wizard bootable CD to doublecheck which partition is set Active, then click on Win7 HD to highlight it, from Disk tab select Rebuild MBR, OK, Apply, reboot.

If Win7 doesn't start, boot DVD/Repair CD to run Startup Repair 3 times again.

If these fail, change the Active flag to Win7 partition if it is on SysReserved. Try Rebuild MBR and if necessary Startup Repairs again.

Linux can corrupt Win7 beyond repair so you may need to copy out your files using Win7 disk or Paragon Rescue CD: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Then run full Factory Recovery from its partition at boot, or using disks you've made or order, or use the Win7 Install DVD to clean reinstall following these steps: Reinstalling Windows 7

This is a VERY interesting read. It is amazing what they have changed in the last few months.
You may only see this dialog window once or twice, but Microsoft wants to get it right. The Vista-like (Aurora) background has been replaced with a light blue one that we've seen on All the text has been changed as well. "Find out what's new in Windows 7" is now "Go online to find out what's new in Windows 7" and "See more new features" is now "Go online to learn more." Furthermore, the "Learn more about new Windows 7 features" has been replaced with two bullets:

* Find out everything you need to know about setting up your computer

I am a student and need to install many types of software over and over again.
If I understand it correctly, windows makes backups of all DLL-files to prevent the DLL-hell scenario from happening.
But as I need to install/remove many programs I end up with a lot of garbage (I asume) in my winsxs folder.

Right now I have a winsxs folder of 11.3 gb, an application folder of 7.5gb on my 120gb ssd (windows) drive and about 117gb off apps (and games) on my storage drive.

I formatted my laptop this summer but I am concerned that my drive will get flooded with storage data faster then I can remove apps from my C-drive.

What I would like to know is:
- In what case does winsxs backup all my DLL-files
- How can I prevent windows from doing that? (protable apps?)
- How can I prevent the DLL-hell scenario while preventing sxs growth?

I run a HP [VISTA-64] computer with HP Upgrade to WIN7 DVD. I have run the DVD a few times, and *basically* W7 is fine. There is ONE issue though. When I have a few family JPGs open and go to the T-B, click on 'Show Windows Side by Side', it does not work right, as it did in V-64. The last time I reformatted, then upgraded to W7, Side by Side worked *once*, then...never again. Almost seems like something else I run 'kills' the ability to view a few JPGs [comparing]. Answer:Windows Live Side-by-Side Configuration Error

Hello Andrew!

Welcome to the Vista Forums! I hope you enjoy your time here! Thanks for creating a new thread!

This error isn't the easiest to fix, but it also shouldn't be impossible.

Basically, although Windows can store two different version of a component, it cannot actually run two different versions at the same time.

The main available versions for that component are:

As you can see, neither of the conflicting components is using the very latest file version. Now, what to do about it!

Windows Live is a Microsoft product. It is unusual for a Microsoft Product to have this sort of old file versioning issue, as long as it is up to date.

Can you please download a new copy of Windows Live Messenger from here: Windows Live Messenger 2011 - Instant messaging (IM), video chat

and install all of your Windows Updates.

If this doesn't fix it, we can look at more technical fixes, but hopefully we won't have to go there.

Thanks again, and the very best of luck,

with windows 7 it was so easy, when I had two windows open, be it word, a browser or windows explorer to chose show windows side by side......they seemed to snap together or were easily encouraged to do so.

with windows 10 the two windows seem to stay over to the left of the screen and both only take up approx 50% of the screen....I try and stretch them to, which works of a fashion but not remembered next time I start the PC....

I use dual monitors on Windows 7 Ultimate, and often need to compare two videos or photos so I use that "show windows side by side" feature a lot. But what I'm wondering, is I love how I can drag a window to the top right corner of my right screen and it will make the window exactly half the size of that screen. But if I try on the top left corner of the right screen technically it's not the edge of the desktop since there is another monitor to the left of it so I don't get that snap to option I have to manually make the window the same size. so i was stuck, the only windows i could get on was safe mode, i looked for the, it was fine and in the right place, now as you know my floppy drive is broken, the only acess to a disk, and the external zip drive, the driver is now outdated, and a soon as its detected, the computer freezes. i cannot search for hardware as i am in safe mode, and i cannot do direct cable connection, as i said, safe mode, when it searches for another comp, it automatically disconnects!
and i went to microsoft, theyve seen this before, infact they told me how to fix it, BUT IT REQUIRES A BOOT DISK, I HAVE NO FLOPPY!
heres the link please dont just say something like "why do you want windows 95" because that wont help, I need solutions PLEASE, i dont wanna get rid of my laptop!

Answer:Windows 95, wheres theres a good side, theres a down side!

win95 is gay/solution/win2000

On my windows 7, when i have all my windows minimised i can not choose the show windows side by side option.

Does this only happen when you have 1 window minimised and 1 window showing no matter what size??????? For some reason when i have 2 windows opened, 1 window minimised and one showing no matter what size and then click on show windows side by side it only shows and maximises the visible window.

I got around it by keeping both windows visible and then choosing show windows side by side. At the end of the day it does not matter whether windows are minimised or not, that option should always do what it is meant to do.

Hope this helped, if not at last i tried.

Mine uses up 7GB of space.
Has anyone deleted this folder or anything inside.
I have enough space but I like to be streamline.

The Secret Of Vista's Winsxs Folder.

Answer:Winsxs stands for 'Windows Side By Side'

7GB worth of HDD space costs somewhere on the order of a buck or two at today's prices. The binaries in there are indeed used, frequently, and deleting all or portions of the WinSxS folder is almost guaranteed to end badly. Personally, I'd recommend against it.

So I've always had this as a minor frustration, but I'm taking the time to find out if there's a solution to the problem, and the problem is this;

Whenever I have an open set of documents (say two folder-trees) and I use the "Show Windows Side By Side" (SWSbS) option from right-clicking the taskbar, it always seems as though Windows puts them on the wrong sides of the screen. Specifically, if I have the C: drive showing in my first window, and the D: drive showing in my second window, I'll click the SWSbS option, and it will put my first window on the RIGHT side of the screen, and my second window on the LEFT.

This may not seem like a big deal, but logically they should be the other way, because then they would match up with the order of their taskbar buttons. When I go to access the LEFT window by clicking on its corresponding icon in the taskbar, I have to click on the RIGHT taskbar button.

It's a minor annoyance, but it's frustrating because it seems like the window placement is arbitrary. Is there any way to get Windows to look to the taskbar to figure out what order it should put the stacked windows in?

I've just gone with the manual CLICK>DRAG, CLICK>DRAG and moved the windows to where I want them, but this kind of defeats the purpose of HAVING the feature in the first place!

I just want to be able to have the right window match the right taskbar icon, and the left window match the left taskbar icon. Is this too much to ask???

Answer:"Show Windows Side By Side" --- is there a way to control it?

Okay, after posting, I kept looking elsewhere and found that there doesn't seem to be any internal way to control the behavior of the windows (silly, I think), BUT...

I was able to find a program called "Taskbar Button Manager" that is built to do just that. It runs in the background, and allows you to move the taskbar buttons around. That's pretty much all it does, but it seems to work well.

If anyone else runs across this problem, you can find the software by searching on or your preferred software site. It's free but requires a valid email address for use.

Hi Guys

Our Vista windows (which has never had any issues before) starting going crazy a few days ago (I believe it happened after a Windows automatic update one night). I have seen a few relevant posts on here regarding similar problems but none I have found are the same as ours. At this stage the things that stopped working are:

Itunes (Itunes was not installed correctly. Please Reinstall, Error 7 Windows Error 14001)
Microsoft Office, All Applications (This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel.)
AVG Virus Scan (would not load at all and reinstalling did not set)
Adobe Acrobat and all email attachments will not load through Internet Explorer or Opera.
Quicktime (Side by Side Configuartion is incorrect. Please see App event log for more details)
Windows Messenger (Side by Side error also)

Event Viewer when opened says "MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap in may not have been installed correctly. Name: event viewer CLSID: FX:{etc)

I would try reinstalling Vista but the CD is in a different country still in a box waiting to be shipped so not really an option for now and all of our Wedding plans (6 weeks away) are on this computer so we cant afford to lose anything (not that we can load anything without Office)

I have tried the SFC/Scannow and it discovered errors but could not fix. I have tried updating Vista through the Windows updat... Read more

I have a home network with Vista 32bit Home Basic on both the desktop and laptop. In the past week, I am experiencing a problem with not being able to view recently uploaded photos on the laptop. The photos are showing on the desktop which is directly connected to the Kodak camera dock. When I am on my laptop and try to access the newly uploaded photos, they just aren't there. This problem started in March. All the previously uploaded photos are visible on the laptop. I also am not seeing the April folder I just created today when I uploaded a few pictures. I am very frustrated with this problem as I work from my laptop and often need to access photos and scans. Now I have to do all my work from the desktop since it is the only computer which can see the pictures and scans. Please help.

I have Vista Home Premium with Microsoft Photo Gallery on my Dell Inspriron 1721 laptop. I?m using a machine to transfer slides to a SD card then uploading them to Photo Gallery. Photos transfer Ok except the order of the photo gets scrambled somehow during upload. In other words, the photos on the SD card are in chronologically order but after uploading, when I view them in Photo Galley, the order is all mixed up. I know you can manual move them around but it?s hard to be sure of the original order and it is very time consuming when you have hundreds of photos. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to fix them. FYI I would call myself a novice user of Photo Gallery.

Answer:Uploading photos from a SD memory card into Photo Gallery scrambles order of photos

Will the Photo Gallery sort by name? You could prefix the photo names with numerical sequence. A utility like
Introduction - Bulk Rename Utility will do it easily. It's free.

Edit: if that looks too busy, the multi-renamer in FreeCommander is a bit simpler to use. [c] before the name prepends a number starting at what you select and incrementing by what you choose. Just press F2 when in the folder.

I store and view pictures on my computer with "Windows Live Photo Gallery" (WLFG) and do email with "Outlook", which is selected as my email program of choice. In fact, I don't have any other email programs on my machine.

If I select pictures from my files, there is a button on WLFG which says "email". When you press it, a window comes up headed "Preparing files" and you then chose the file size and press "attach", when the file/s are supposedly attached to a new email ready for sending. This is what I gather from the help file. However, the new email is nowhere to be found. I have searched for it in Outlook, and in WLFG, but it seems it has never been created.

Any ideas?

I have had a problem with my Gateway NV73 laptop where I would get a BSOD whenever I was viewing video on the internet, viewing pictures in my photo editing program and now after about 5 minutes of just using the internet. The BSOD would come up in a square in the center of the screen and dissappear within seconds. Then the system would still show the power light as on but a blank screen and unresponsive. I would press and hold power button until shutdown and try to restart but only the fan sound was working but nothing else. And after about 30 to 40 minutes later it would boot up just fine, but would then crash after minutes of using it. I tried to get the info needed from the dump files but I literally had to do the whole process stated above many times and I saved the minidump files to my network drive so I could post this on my desktop computer. Please help, I am pulling my hair out trying to figure this out.

Answer:BSOD w/ viewing photos w/ Windows Live Photo Gallery error 0x0000001e

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Everything on my laptop was working perfectly, then I had to update my Flash.
Afterwards, I tried to run Messenger and I keep getting the following error:
"The Application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect."
Other programs such as Photoshop and The Sims won't run either.

I've tried everything suggested: Uninstalling and re-installing the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Packages, tried System Restore (which didn't work), tried to uninstall and reinstall Flash, etc. I'm not running AVG. Nothing seems to fix it.

Is there anything else I can do?
I use Windows 7, and it's all updated.

Thanks much.

Today after recieving my new PC and GPU yesterday, Ive been getting this side by side error config error and I cannot launch any .exe files. When i booted up my PC, I installed flash and LoL (which includes C ++ files) and everything was working fine. The following morning I guess I hadnt booted my PC down properly so the black screen which prompts you to start windows normally popped up and I thought nothing of it. After starting up, I attempted to check my email via IE but it wouldnt start. It would open then immediately close as if sometging was force closing it. I attempted to start up LoL and I got the errors in the pics uploaded. Ive been researching all morning and Ive come across a couple threads where the support said the error was most likely due to Microsoft Visual and to uninstal then instal, but I cannot uninstal due to the error in the picture and I cannot instal either since I cannot access the internet. Any help would be highly appreciated. Im using my phone btw.

I have Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I am taking an online tutorial on HTML. I like to have two windows open side by side. One for my lessons and the other for that which I am working on. I have been sitting here for about two hours. Some times they will open side by side and other times not--most of the times they don't. One of the windows will open and fill the screen. If I restore the windows down, it might work once, but the next time it will fill up the screen. I even click on Proprieties on the IE icon and choose to open minimized. That didn't help.I've been to goodle looking at information on using Windows Snap and that doesn't seem to work. If I right-click on the task-bar and select, "Show windows side by side" it doesn't work--except for a few times it will. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Answer:Showing windows side by side

That's very simple:
Take one window by the " headline" and drag it to the left edge of the screen. Hold it there for a second (until the shape of a half screen comes up) then let go and do the same with the other window to the right edge.
if you drag a window to the top edge, it'll open full screen.

Microsoft even made a video guide for this Aero feature called Snap:

Maximize and Restore Down a Window by Drag and Drop

So recently, I received a blue screen of death. The error was something along the lines of:

When it restarted, windows advised me to perform a system file check. So I left my computer for a bit, and when I came back it was already at the logon screen. However, when I logged on and started firefox, first thing I noticed was that all my bookmarks and some extensions had been wiped.
I then tried to start Microsoft Word but I received the following error:

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect";

I receive that error for most of my other programs.

When I tried to run event viewer, it says:

"MMC could not create the snap-in"

Please help. Is it possible to restore my applications without reinstalling them all?

G'day everyone - I suspect this issue will be a tough one to get help with!

I've attached a screen-capture of a Microsoft Office Excel 2007 spreadsheet I'm working on at the moment. As you will be able to see on the screen-capture, I've marked the areas of interest and will explain here...

When I enter a name in this column (marked as '1'), I want the spreadsheet to check another column (marked as '2') to see if there is a match. If there is a match, I then want the spreadsheet to check the column marked as '3', and subtract that amount from the column marked as '4'. If there is no match between the column marked as '1' and the column marked as '2', I don't want anything to happen.

I hope that made sense, and if anyone can help me with a solution here, I would greatly appreciate it.

When I insert a flash drive into one of the dead ports, initially the message pops up indicating that the computer recognizes something has been inserted into the port, but then it immediately disappears and the port is dead. I went to Device Manger-->Portable Devices and tried to fix one of the three dead ports. At some point (after I scanned for hardware changes, I think) it did show the drive letter, but it had a yellow triangular error-message  indicator. I right-clicked and selected Properties, and it said "This device cannot start (code 10)." Then the drive letter disappeared, though it has come back sporadically. I hope this is clear. Would appreciate any ideas. Thanks. Jane Doe

So, I had the same problem as above. I had developed a dll using Qt that worked fine on my machine but would not register on another. The familiar "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect..." appears when I ran the depencency walker on the dll.

So this was the solution that worked for me, which may help some others see what's going wrong here:

Within my dll the manifest emedded read:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0">
<assemblyIdentity type="win32" name="Microsoft.VC80.DebugCRT" version="8.0.50608.0" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b"></assemblyIdentity>

It seemed that the assembly definition was not found upon my client computer. So then, from within my original computer's 'Windows\WinSxS' directory, I copied the 'x86_Microsoft.VC80.DebugCRT_1f...' directory and it's associated files within the 'Policies' and 'Manifests' directories onto the client computer. Once copied, the dll registrered fine.

Hope this helps...

I have a spreadsheet that has nine columns. Once of these columns (the fourth column) is used for a single character as a method of immediately letting the user know that the row in particular is different to the others. So, there's nothing different about that at all.

What I'd like to be able to do, though, is to have the other eight columns (the three columns before the column mentioned above and the five after) all change their background colour when the single character is entered in the fourth column.

So, if the user inputs data in a new row and leaves the fourth column cell blank, nothing happens. If the user enters the symbol (let's say it's a "#"), then the nine columns will all change their background colour to red.

If anyone can help me with this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I recently bought my Dell XPS 9560. My dell xps screen appears cooler on the left side and slightly warmer on the right side. It is not noticeable in any color but when I visit websites with a white background like google, I can notice that the right side is slightly warmer (yellowish) which is distracting. Any idea on how should I proceed with the issue?

Answer:Dell XPS 9560 Screen - left side cooler and right side warmer

If "recently" is less than 21 days from shipment and from Dell directly, the best option is to contact customer support and have the system replaced.
If it's more than 21 days from shipment, the warranty will cover the display replacement, which is the only solution -- though if the system is new enough, you're better off having it replaced than repaired.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 5545. From the first day I lifted the screen of the laptop, there was a click from the right side where the hinge of the screen meets the base of the laptop. I just assumed this was something internally that kept the screen in the open position because there are so many other items click when you open them. However, over the past few weeks a gap started to appear that has become increasingly larger between what appears to be the bottom of the case and the top in that same place where the right hinge is.
C'mon Dell.  It is a design flaw and should be fixed as such.

Problem: I'm trying to retrieve a client-side <form> element value into a server-side variable. The code works if I explicitly set strCCLastNameValue = (a data value in the db table column "care_Contact_Last_Name" such as "Jones"). I hope I have explained the situation adequately. Thanks for any suggestions on resolving this issue.
Here's the code in an asp file...
<script language="VBScript">
Sub prepop()
Dim dbConn, oRS, sSQL, strCCLastNameValue
strCCLastNameValue = document.getElementById("careContactLastName").value 'THIS IS THE LINE THAT IS GIVING ME PROBLEMS
Set dbConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
dbConn.Open "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Server=MYServerurl;Database=wpgXXXXX;NetworkLibrary=DBMSSOCN;UID=XXXXX;PWD=YYYYYYYY"
Set oRS = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
oRS.CursorLocation = 3 'adUseClient
With oRS
.ActiveConnection = dbConn
.Source = "SELECT * FROM CareMinistry WHERE care_Contact_Last_Name= '" & strCCLastNameValue & "'"
.CursorType = 0
.LockType = 3
.CursorLocation = 3
End With
'Then fill the <form> with the selected row.

When trying to open a number of programmes including Microsoft Works Word processor is "application cannot be opened as side by side configuration is incorrect"

How do I tackle this please!

Answer:Error message: "application cannot be opened as side by side configuration is incorrect"

To be honest I never meet such problem with the operating system but firstly I would recommend trying to repair the OS.

Boot up the notebook and press F8. Then choose option called Repair the Computer.
Now you will see a some options. Here I would recommend choosing the first option called: Startup Repair.
This option automatically fixes problems that are preventing Windows from starting.
But I?m not quite sure if this is good enough to fix your issue with the system.

If this does not help I would recommend reinstalling this Microsoft Works package.

Model:  HP Pavilion m6 Notebook PC 15".   Laptop used minimally and still in beautiful shape other than these noted issues:  Left hinge is broken away from plastic casing (see pic) and Right hinge is broken away from lid plastic (see pic).   From what I'm reading, it seems the plastic base, chassis, and possibly lid base and hinge need replaced.  Please let me know what HP is offering as far as replacement parts and repair.  This seems to be an ongoing issue with HP notebooks.  I've purchased a total of three HP notebook/laptops over the past four years so I'm very concerned about these issues and why HP has allowed it to continue for so long and across so many different models.  It seems to me the plastic used in making these parts does not have the tensile strength required in notebook/laptop use.  I would think this issue would've been corrected years ago and not have continued.  Please advise.  I do love all my HP laptops other than these issues.   Thank you.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

I have an Inspiron 5545 running win10.
On opening, the right side hinge on the keyboard section pulled three screws and inserts free, cracked the plastic in the corner where the hinge is located, killed the WiFi, and caused an intermittent vertical line to appear on the screen.
The laptop has never been out of  the house, never dropped, and seldom left my lap when I was home.
It runs, but is held together with aa 1.5" black paper clamp and connects to the home network via a USB WiFi dongle from Wal-Mart..
This is my fourth or fifth laptop and the first to have the case fail.  This is a design failure in my opinion.  Boo on you, Dell.  I've bought a lot of your computers over the years because they worked and did not fall apart with normal use.  This one disappoints.

This morning I came into my office to find my pc (p4, win7) apparently in a loop. the cpu usage was very high on all four processors, and the disk usage was high as well. I tried restarting the computer but there was so much cpu usage that I couldn't even type. So after 10 minutes or so, I just pulled the plug.

The first problem was that Norton Internet Security stopped working. After an hour on 'chat' with Symantec, they reloaded the software for me and now NIS is working properly. But I still have (at least) two probems. (1) My RIMDeviceManager fails with an 0xC015002 error, and all my MSOffice 2007 programs fail with "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect."

I unstalled all the Microsoft C++ programs and then did an MSOffice "repair" and it looks like C++ Redistributable (32 and 64-bit) were re-installed, but Outlook, Excel, etc, still get the same error. Everything I've read about fixing the problem is way over my head (and I'm fairly technical). Does anyone have a clue what I should be tracking down?

Re: Office 2007: The application has failed to start because the side-by-side config.

I've done some more checking and find that quite a few programs are failing to initialize because of this side-by-side thing: Adobe Premiere Elements and Adobe Photoshop Elements, Cyberlink Power Director 8, Microsoft LifeCam (no error, it just doesn't do anything), FormatFactory - there may be more, I haven't checked them all. Each program fails to initialize with the 'side-by-side configuration' error message. Please help!!

First post...

I am coming to you as a last resort. I built my own PC and installed Vista Ultimate 64 bit OEM edition. Has been working fine for ~2 years.
Now every time I attempt to open a program I get the error "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail".

The only progam that is barely working is IE 64 bit edition. I cannot download or run any files.

Microsoft wants 59$ to speak to a technical support representative(What a joke, multibillion dollar company wants extra $ for tech support??...).

Doing a ton of research I have tried various things to remedy this with no avail. System restore did not work. Doing a sfc /scannow in command prompt does not work, it does not even run. Wasted 3 hours of my life doing a thorough checkdisk as well.

The error in the event log is as follows...
Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\" on line 18. Invalid Xml syntax.

So the problem has to do with this manifest file? I really am clueless as to my next move. I can not download and run anything at all.... Can I do a Vista repair installation with my OEM version?

Should I try and get my hands on a cheap upgrade version of Windows 7?

My video sometimes goes haywire when this happens and its a telltale sign that my system is locked up.  I think i may have a damaged mb internally but just wanted to see if anyone else has seen this same issue or something similar.  Thanks!

I recently performed a Lenovo update on my T430si, and now I am getting an error that TvsuCommandLauncer.exe failed ot start because side-by-side configuration is incorrect.  This laptop is now running Windows 10 and also running very slow.  That is why I tried to do the Lenovo update, thinking it would help with performance. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this?

So far I have done this and it did not help:

1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All
Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run
as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a
confirmation, type the password, or click Allow/Continue.

2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
sfc /scannow
(The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces
incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.)

FYI, She gets the message when trying to launch the Second Life Phoenix Viewer, however Second Lifes Viewer 2 loads without error.

I am going to perform a CHKDSK on her Lenovo as recommended in an archived thread from this forum and hopefully that will solve the issue. Can anybody think of anything else?

So my issue is that when I log into my computer it will some times (not all the time) revert from a side by side multi monitor setup to a over under setup. Like if you go into screen resolution settings I will have it set to monitor 1 on the left, and monitor 2 on the right, then when I lock the computer and then log back in, it will have monitor 1 positioned over the top of monitor 2.

I'm thinking there is possibly a default that it keeps going back to, but I'm not sure where I would look for that, other than the screen resolution settings. Another possibility for the origin of this problem could be Microsoft User Experience Virtualization Agent, which we have installed on all our computers here to synchronize the various setting we have connected to our profiles. It looks like UEV might synchronize monitor layout settings, and with that it could be some how defaulting on an over under set up. Overall I am unsure of what to do about his.

Any one have any ideas?

I am using a 30" at 2560x1600. Each time I open Word Perfect X3, and open 2 documents, I have to resize it to fit approx. 1280x1600 for each document..

Now, if WordPerfect X3 itself is opened at 1280x1600, and I open 1 document, no problem.

But if I launch WordPerfect X3 to 2560x1600, then open 2 documents, I run into the above problem, so I have to spend time to resize them every time.

Should WordPerfect X3 automatically memorize the size setting of 2 document?

I have encountered a very stressful problem, whenever I attempt to open Word (2007), or Excel I get an error message which says:
"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail."
I have been combing forums for the past 12 hours and have attempted several suggested fixes, to no avail. Such as those suggested:
