Sort downloaded photos by date taken

Question: Sort downloaded photos by date taken

hi,
when i download photos from my canon camera, they are all put in a folder that is named according to the DOWNLOAD DATE. i'd like the photos to go into folders that are named according to the SHOOTING DATES. this was the behavior of windows in the past and for some reason it changed.
can you tell me how to change this and to get the photos sorted according to the date they were taken?

can you also tell me how to number the photos continuously, instead of numbering from 1 on each new date? i'd like the photos from day one numbered 1 to 14, from day two 15 to 23, and so on.

Preferred Solution: Sort downloaded photos by date taken

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Sort downloaded photos by date taken

Hi tamirhoresh

I use the following free application to organize my images as part of my workflow.

cam2pc - Image Viewer and fully featured Digital Imaging software to Download, Organize, Modify and Share your photos

It has a down loader that should work with your camera and will allow much finer control than any of the manufacturers offerings. It will even re-name your existing structure to what you decide to go with

It can actually create folders and image filenames from the files own internal MetaData.

There is a Paid version but have found that the freeware does everything I need.

It is compatible with MS photo programs but actually contains a good set of display options so may even replace them

I have a folder of about 20,000 photos from a digicam that I'm organizing for a friend, since I'm rebuilding the system I couldn't bare the mess and had to tackle this too. I've gone through with software to remove the duplicates but now I want to put them into folders labeled by their date created, or date modified. Is there a command for this? Or even a prog.

Answer:Command to sort 20k photos into date modified albums?

I use ThumbsPlus to organize my photos. It has an auto rename feature, so you could sort by date and then rename by year/month or whatever, but it's notsuper automated - you would basically need to rename each months worth of files, which may or may not be a lot of work.

It's not super cheap if all you want to do is rename some files, but I think it has a free 30 day trial.

Help! This should be easy but I can't get it to work.

I have a report that must group by Trip# and sort by ascending activity date all of the various activities that took place on multiple days of the trip.
Further, the trip with the earliest date must come first regardless of the Trip#.
I've accomplished getting the earliest starting date trip first and grouping its detail with a unique string made up of the earliest date of each trip formatted to YYYYMMDD+Trip#. This prints a trip total and works fine.

But the daily activity for the trip is out of date sequence.
Adding a Date field to the 'Sorting and Grouping' insists on breaking on and printing a sub-total for each of the trips activity dates.
Without the sorting & grouping by date the trip records are out of sequence even though the data source query is sorted ascending by activity date.

(see attachments that show the above)

The only solution I can think of is to create a sub-report sorted by activity date.

Does anyone have any better ideas?

Try unlocking the toolbar and raise it a bit. The clock will now show the time, day and date. Lock the toolbar.

And the worst of it is, it's all my fault. But, though I surely deserve what I'm getting for my stupidity, I'd still like to remove it and fix the damage it's caused... Anyway, I don't know much about this virus, and I'm not exatly sure what all it's done, but I'll tell what happened and hope someone else has an idea.

It was in an AIM profile. That is, it was linked to in an AIM profile, with a devious "pics from my trip" title. Which was unfortunate for me, because this profile happened to belong to a pretty girl who actually had just gone on a trip... The "it" in question was an .exe (pics.exe), which should've warned me, but it claimed to be a slideshow and I foolishly trusted it. I downloaded and ran it; nothing much obvious happened. Maybe an hourglass by my mous for a second, but that's about it. It was about then that I began to realize how stupid I'd been... I looked at the rest of the profile:

"www.g00ns.com is the best site ever!"

or something like that. Oh dear; I've seen that site mentioned before. I asked her about it, and nope - she had no idea that that was in her profile. I immediately ran to delete it - no luck, it won't let me. I found a "pics.exe" process running and ended it, scanned with Norton (which found nothing), then went into Safe Mode (with networking, if that makes any difference). In Safe Mode, I deleted it, then searched for "pics&... Read more

Hello Mike,

Check out Sort Shots - iPad Edition. It allows you to create tags (up to three layers) and rate your photos so you can later do a search by a tag or other criteria. i.e. do a search by 'wedding' with images with a five star rating. I think it fits what you are searching for....

I have a column in an Excel spreadsheet that is formatted as dd.mm.yyyy.

I need something that will read this column and output it as yyyy.mm.dd into a separate filed so Excel will sort it properly in chronological sequence.

At present the "date" sort only sorts on the first 2 numerics, ie dd and sorts then from 1-31, irrespective of the balance of the date field.

Hope someone can help.

Question: Sort date daily

I have a big problem with this daily report since I have to do it manually every single day. Is there a way to automated this in macro or vlookup . Help Name Room Status From DateWayne,G 440-2 Medicare AAA 1/23/10Chin, P 520-3 Private BBB 2/23/10King, L 422-4 Insurance CCC 1/23/10Cohen, A 545-3 Medicare AAA 2/23/101. This data base keep adding up daily so data range will not work.2. Need to print report on daily admissions. So all patients admit for 1/23/10 will be print out of 1/23/10 Date Name Status1/23/10 King, L. Insurance1/23/10 Wayne, G. Medicare

Answer:Sort date daily

Hi,Here is a macro that should do what you want.Your source data is in a worksheet named "Source"Your report is created in a worksheet named "Report"If these are not the names used, either change the names of the worksheets or change them in these lines in the macro: 'change name of source worksheet here
strSrcWS = "Source"
'change name of report worksheet here
strRptWS = "Report"The source data is in these columns, starting at row 2 A B C D E
1 Name Room Status From Date
2 Wayne, Greg 440-2 Medicare AAA 1/23/10
3 Chin, Peter 520-3 Private BBB 2/23/10
4 King, Larry 422-4 Insurance CCC 1/23/10
5 Cohen, Alex 545-3 Medicare AAA 2/23/10
Due to the way that the macro finds the end of the source data, all cells in column A below the last data must be empty. On the report page the date will be entered in cell C1 as follows: A B C
1 Report for 1/23/10
2 Date Name StatusAdd the other headings, as shown. When the macro is run, this is the result: A B C
1 Report for 1/23/10
2 Date Name Status
3 1/23/10 Wayne, Greg Medicare
4 1/23/10 King, Larry Insurance
The macro is triggered by either changing the date in cell C1 on the report page, or to re-run for the same date, select C2, click in the formula bar and click the adjacent check mark.As changes made by Macros cannot be undone with the Undo button, test this macro on a copy of your data. Always make a backup of your Workbook before running this macro. This code has only been tested on sample data, and it has not been tested ... Read more

I've used Outlook Express for many years, so I'm somewhat embarrassed to be asking this question now. I frequently have to locate all the message sent by someone, so click the "From" column header to group the messages by sender. Problem is, I'd also like the message for each sender by in descending date order. I can't find any way to do that; it seems OE will only sort on one column and the date column is random. One option is to create a Library with your preference. Don't know why, but Libraries are sorted folders first and then by date (if you select by date of course..)

Creating Library is simple... First make sure Libraries are shown (in file explorer in left tree right click on empty space and select New. Then you add folders.

Answer:date modified sort in vista

Right click the folder, select properties, select the customize tab (or press Alt-V, "Customize this folder" from inside the folder) and make sure "All items" is selected from the first drop down.

I wish Vista would always just default to the All items view. It selects a bad default way too often.

I have input dates into my database table in the short date formula for example: 01/07/2005. Can anyone tell me how to sort these dates in a chronological order? If i try to sort them as they are they just appear in ascending order using the first 2 numbers for example using the above date layout '01'. I have several different years on the database. How can the years and dates be sorted chronologically???Help much appreciated thankyou!!!

Answer:Access 2000 'date sort'

it sounds like you are recording the dates as text. This is why they are being sorted 01/01, 01/02 etc.The easiest solution would be to see if you can convert the field in the table to a date field. If this is not possibel then you could try either the format, or convert function in the query to convert the field to a date, then sort on that.If you need any help on the convert or format function please post back here.

09/21/2012
02/20/2012

I have verified that the dates are not formatted as text and have altered the way the date is shown, trying it without the zero and with the zero and nothing changes.

Answer:How to sort by Date Accessed in all folders?

I'm assuming this is what you are after.
1. Click the Start Menu Orb and then Search for cmd. Once that comes up Right-Click cmd.exe and SelectRun as administrator.
2. The UAC prompt will appear… Click Yes!
3. Now in the cmd prompt, Type in “ fsutil behavior set disablelastaccess 0 “ and Press Enter.
4. Restart your PC for changes to take affect.

After restart
1. Switch the Window view to Details.
2. Right-Click category bar and Click More…
3. On the next window Scroll down and Check the box for Date Accessed and then Press OK.
That’s it! Now when you do Windows Searches it will pull up and show the Date accessed category.

I am using a program that OCR's a page and then creates a folder for it inside an output folder...
Goes like this:
Input folder -> OCR program -> Output folder -> [Folder just for that document]

I keep the output folder open so that i can see the new folders being created for the OCR records, which i can then drag additional files to that records folder.
Since im dealing with thousands of folders im depending on vista to sort by date modified so that the newest one shows up on top.... But im running into a problem

I've done about 700 records now (700 folders have been created) and for some reason the date modified stopped working. Now the new folder is showing up at the end instead of the beginning. If i hit F5 to refresh the window it move to the top where it should be.... but im going through thousands of records and hitting F5 for every record consumes time and makes room for error.

Why did vista stop sorting by date modified? I didnt change anything, all of the sudden it just stopped being consistent. I can restart the computer and sometimes it will start working properly again for about 30 records, but its not guaranteee.

Please help me fix this, THANKS!

Whenever I open a folder and want to "sort by date (modified)", Windows 7 sorts by descending order. I have to click again to get ascending order (in XP this was not a problem). Is there a registry hack or some other way of getting Windows 7 to sort by (modified) date in ascending order when you click on "sort by date"? Various searches have only come up with bogus or obvious answers (e.g., click again to change order, "group by" (which doesn't maintain setting when reset to "sort by date"), etc.). Thanks for any "real" help.

On my external hard drive, I have a ton of photos from different cameras that retain the weird file-naming scheme that the camera implements so the order is weird and out of whack. I've been wanting to organize these photos and thought the best way to do it would be to sort it by date; however, when I click the sort-by date tab, it takes FOREVER to sort it.

It's weird because this seems to only happen with certain folders and not others within the same drive so I'm pretty baffled as to why this happens and how to fix it.

I tried to do a search on the forum to see if anyone else encountered a similar problem by searching the word "sort" but I came up empty. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello. If I select Date from the "Arranged By" field in Outlook 2007, it sorts by the date each message was received. I know that I can sort by the sent date by clicking on "Custom", then under Sort selecting Sent. This is a pain to go through all of this, however, since Outlook reverts back to the received date every time I sort by something else or search for an email, etc. I'd like to know if there is a way I can change Outlook so the default date sort is the sent date instead of the received date. I'm fine with editing the registry and what-not if need be.

Thanks in advance,

Ive got vista x64 and Im tryin to figure out how to sort a folder by the date I DLed the contents. In Xp it was np but I cant seem to get it work in vista. Ive tried Date Received Date Modified Date Taken... everything with Date in the sort type and none of em work they either dont change at all or just end up in abc order. What Im goin for is sorting the contents exactly by date and time of how they ended up in the folder. Any ideas? Also before I forget about it. Ive got a folder on an HDD that wasnt modified when I installed vista I installed vista on a completely new HDD. Now in windows explorer in vista that folder thats on a completely separate drive is missing roughly 100 files completely randomly. Not any specific order I can find to whats missing (date, abc, etc) theyre just not showin up. The file size of the folder doesnt indicate theyve been deleted they just arent showin up.

This should be done by simply clicking Date Modified at the top of the folder window. For ascending order the arrow should be pointed down.

We have a list of ladies and the dates their babies are due. There's another column in the list with a date that they left our care - maybe moved away or transferred to another office. I'd like to sort the list by due date, unless they have left our care - and then have those ladies at the end of the list. So if the transfer date is blank, sort by due date, with all those transferred at the end.

Advice please? Thanks!

This is a feature I miss tremendously from XP. The closest thing I can do is sort by date modified, and desktop is where I put a lot of my new files. They go all over the place. And if I copy an older file to desktop, they go right in the middle of my icons. And yes, I need a lot of icons on my desktop.

Hi all,

I've been a long time reader of these fourms but first time poster but am looking for any advice on the following.

I use the movie library function to view & play movies that are "ripped" and recorded from TV. I have now 300+ movies and add movies every week. The sort by date added only seems to work for recorded from tv movies but not "ripped" movies. I use My Movie Finder to get the rest of the metadata & folder.jpg i can't work out how date added works.

Anyone else sorted this issue other that using Media Browser/My Movies etc..

Thanks for the advice,

Steve..

Answer:Movie Library sort by date added?

For ease of use, take a look a an app developed by one of our own here @ sevenforums... YAMMM. It will automatically go out on the net and grab the needed meta data, images, etc. It is a great... GREAT time saver! My sort by date works fine!

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum faloony!

Hi!
This has been annoying me a lot.
Let's say I have a folder with many files to which I download to.
On XP if I download a new file to it in order to find it the easiest for me is to SORT BY Date Modified and then it will show at the very last file on the list...easy enough.
In comes Vista 64 and that does not work at all...it still shows up somewhere else.
Any ideas?

The same feature exists in Vista and Win7. Just be sure to right-click on the headers at the top of ecah olumn to pick the headings you want (be sure to add Modified Date), drag the new header(s) you added to the right position you'd like them -then click on any of them to sort by that column header.

I created a folder on my desktop and add images of books I have sold almost daily. With Windows XP, the images would stay in order as I added them, but with Windows 7 they are always in order of the image name.
I have tried using the different sort by date options, but they are always sorted by the image name (which is a 5 digit number). How can I sort them by the date I add them to the folder?
Thanks,
Fritz

Answer:How to sort images by date added to a folder

Hello Fritz, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I would think that adding the column "Date last saved", then having the folder set to be sorted by it would do the trick.

Hope this helps,

In windows file explorer I am wondering if its possible to list folder first then have the last accessed files right under the folders afterwords. I need to have the ability to see folders first , then last used / modified files.

If i list folders first now, then the last accessed files comes down at the bottom.

It seems like it's always what would seem like the easiest things always turn out to be the the hardest to actually accomplish.

I'm running Netscape 7.1 and right now my email is sorting my various email folders in ascending order by date. I know that by clicking on the date header you can change that sorting to descending order. The problem is that I can't seem to get that change to "save". Everytime I open the email interface the sort order is back to ascending order. What do I need to do to make that change to descending order the default - and to make it stick.

(Running Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1)
I'm a professional photographer and have recently begun shooting with two cameras simultaneously at events. They use different file names to avoid duplicate names/confusion, i.e. IMG_175000 and XMG_175000. Often times I'll take a photo with one camera and then take a photo immediately after it with the other camera and I'd like both of these images to be organized in the same subfolder and shown sequentially, but by default Windows Explorer lists all the "XMG_######" photos at the end and the IMG_###### photos at the beginning. I can manually sort each individual folder by going to "Sort by - Date" or even better, selecting "Sort by - More... and putting a check mark next to "Date Taken" so that it shows up in the Sort options (which it doesn't automatically) and then sorting by Date Taken, but since I'm dealing with hundreds of subfolders with hundreds of thousands of photo and video files I'd like a way to do this for all the files in these subfolders that isn't manual.

Is there a way to make Windows Explorer automatically arrange every file (both image and movie files) inside the various subfolders inside one root folder by Date or Date Taken instead of automatically always sorting them by name?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Making files in subfolders sort by "Date" or "Date Taken" by default?

Hello XMGING, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, you could set a folder how you like it, then use the method in the tutorial below to apply it to all folders that use the same folder template.

Unfortunately we've been storing family photos on different computers and I've been pulling the HD's as they die. My wife is having knee surgery soon and thought it would be a good time to get them consolidated and organized. The problem is she doesn't have a decent computer at the time. I have the special cable that allows the drives to be connected to a computer. The question I have is I don't really want to rush out and buy a new computer at this time. What would be my options? Could I transfer all the photos to an external hard drive. If she connected this to my daughters Mac laptop, could she use some sort of program to sort them there, without keeping them on the Mac?  Are there any programs out there that will store and allow sorting, like Amazon, or others? How would I get the photos to them, from the HD's through a working computer to the program? Let me know. Thanks. All,
Windows Explorer is sorting files on a network drive always by name. It doesn't save sorting by modification date. Where can I reset this behavior?
We had temporarily activated GPOs at "User Configuration," / "Preferences" / "Control Panel Settings." / "Folder Options (Windows Vista and later)." / (Hide Extensions for Known File Types), but I think that's not
directly related.
Thank you in advance.

In Windows 7 you can show more columns by right clicking the top bar just check there, there are quite a few date options.

Answer:How to save photos that I downloaded

I don't have an external HD or use any backup or cloud service.

You should consider purchasing an external HD [relatively inexpensive] or a USB Flash Thumb Drive [inexpensive] to copy/paste your files to. You mention 1000's of pics so if you buy a thumb drive be sure it's of adequate size. Test it first. Everyone should have one or the other. Having both is even better.

Alternatively, you could perhaps, depending on your experience & comfort level, create a new partition on your hard drive that you could copy your files to. That partition would remain untouched when you reinstall windows. A popular tool for partitioning is Easeus. It's freeware, user friendly & you can get it from here: http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm  Last, you could start burning your pics to DVD, but it would require several Discs at the least.

Hi,
New problem for me after years of downloading photos from email to My pictures (and being automatically picked up by Picasa for viewing and editing). Yesterday when I downloaded photos from my Gmail/Comcast email account, they loaded in My Pictures as 'blank' photos in the MS-DOS application (previously, they have always loaded in JPG)! When I tried to open them, I get the "Open File-Security Warning stating that the publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software? I am given the option to RUN or CANCEL" I, of course, have cancelled as I am not sure that I want to run a MS-DOS application.
If by publisher, they mean who sent the pictures, it is my sister and I do trust her (and the pics were scanned for viruses, etc).
What could be causing the change in application (JPG to MS-DOS) all of a sudden? I have not changed any setting in my picture programs or downloading options. Could it be some setting on my sister side (her pictures have always come thru in JPG before)?
I have no idea where to even begin looking for a solution for this (except here)! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am running Windows XP a1247c (Firefox as main browser-which has never been a problem).
Solution?

Answer:Photos downloaded in MS-DOS application

Do you have extensions turned on so that you are seeing the entire file name? If extensions are turned off for known file types then its easy to slip a picture.jpg.exe file into the mail and make it seem like its a jpg file because the .exe is not shown. So the first thing to do is to check or confirm that possibility.

Otherwise do other jpg files on your system still open fine? Are you trying to open the problem ones while they are still attachments or are you moving them to a windows folder first and then trying to open them?

Also, a better way to handle the process might be for both parties to use Picasa. Your sister can upload to a Web folder and then share that with you so you can download them at your leisure and there is no threat of viruses or corruption by going through email. Keep email strictly text and you won't have that problem or any worries.

I have a music folder with 1,440 files and 38 folders and I like to keep the ones I've just added at the top. When I set the folder to sort by Date, it usually takes about a minute for the folder to show fully. The hard drive is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10. Is there anything I can do to speed it up? I don't want to put them all on an SSD (12.5GB).

Edit: I fixed it by changing the shortcut I was using from D:\Users\x\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Libraries\Music.library-ms\ to D:\Users\x\Music\.

I screwed up. Did disk cleanup and defrag as I regularly do and must have dumped something I normally don't do.

Symptoms:

Any feature of HP will no longer open, though the HP "picture" launches.

Another window, for example, Document Viewer will open. I can drag it to view it.

Regardless of the viewer window, it will say the same thing (not the exact words); the feature you are trying to use is on a cd rom or other removeable disk ...

The same deal happens with photos I downloaded from a forum. ( I downloaded them to my newer computer and they open fine).

On my XP PC, if I choose an application like IrfanView it'll say "Can't read file header! Unknown file format or file not found!

If I try to open a photo via HP Image Zone I get "the feature you are trying to use is on a cd rom or other removeable disk ..."

None of my photos will open now.

Even though I have several System Restore dates to choose from, after it runs through restore, restarts the PC, I get a window which includes "system restore incomplete".

Prior to my monthly "cleanup", all was well.

If this is of any help. The pics I download which won't open have the IrfanView logo instead of a thumbnail. Most of those pics are posted by folks via photobucket. Forgot a biggie. What started this all was I turned my PC on. As my desktop came up I had a window which was trying to load / download "Walmart Music Store Download". Something about the folder, .msi, etc not being there. I couldn't get rid of it. I could temporarily kill the process then it would come back. How can I find my photos without deleting them(as soon as I download they are erased from the machine they cam from)...........Help please!!!!!!

Answer:Cant locate downloaded photos...what and where is os-c drive

Your C: drive is the hard drive where Windows is installed, and this drive also contains a default folder for Documents, and one for Pictures. If you've transferred pictures to your PC using proprietary software (not a good idea in my view) they should be in your Pictures folder:Click the Windows "Start" orb at extreme bottom-left, then click "Pictures" in the right-hand pane - this will open your "Pictures" folder. In future when transferring pictures, buy a card reader and put your memory-cards into that. You can then see what's on the card (in thumbnails) and copy/paste or drag-and-drop them into any folder you choose so you know for sure where they are.

Hi all,

Please help me choose tools - service provider(s) and/or application(s) - for my goals.

I'd like to start sharing privately videos and photos in some private cloud drive with a group of close people. It would be sort of electronic photo/video album. Most computers are 8" Tablet PCs, OS is Windows 8.1.

There is a question how can I view these photos/videos when one (or more) of these people is offline. The best thing would be an application which automatically caches the photos/videos which are viewed most often or "starred" or "liked" most or "rated" as best. The application would cache (for offline viewing too when there is no internet connection) those mostly viewed/starred/liked/rated photos/videos on each computer, depending on which photos/videos were watched on that particular computer.

What I plan is just keep putting all the photos/videos (probably from all the same computers) to some cloud drive, and - the best thing would be - just let the mostly watched photos/videos to sort naturally in each cache. Or maybe there is some feature to rate photos/videos (somewhat like in windows media player).

Is there a way to auto-cache some amount (let's say up to 2GB or 5GB) of the most often viewed files (for offline viewing) instead of having all of them on those devices? I'm asking this because those tablet PCs have a rather limited storage capacity (and are also limited on internet connection quite often too).

Here are some tag... Read more

Hoping to get some help on this question please. I have reviewed the forum and found a similar post, but the sample data is more predictable than mine and the Macro posted doesn't work on my data. See post "Excel Macro to Move data in Rows to column" 28-Aug-2008, 05:47 AM".

On my data, I would like to be able to take the yellow row, and move the data up to the previous row starting in column "R". The rows I would like on the same line, all begin with a date. I don't know how to make a looping Macro that will identify the "date lines", and take the "second date line", and move it to the "first date line's" row.

Any help would be appreciated.
I have attached some sample data. (I hope that's okay?!)

Thank you!!!!
Christine

PS - The range on data varies.

Answer:Solved: Excel Macro to sort data by date, then move to new cell

Christine,

this macro below works well with the sample data.
Code:
Sub sorting()
Dim Rng As Range, c As Range, i As Long
Set Rng = Range("A:A").SpecialCells(xlCellTypeConstants, xlNumbers)
For Each c In Rng
i = (i + 1) Mod 2
If i = 0 Then
With c.Resize(, 15)
.Copy .Offset(-1, 17)
.ClearContents
End With
End If
Next
End Sub

How it works:
1. Takes all those cells in column A of the active sheet that contain numbers. (Dates are actually numbers, only formatted to look like dates.)
2. In a loop, it takes every second cell of the set of cells selected in Step #1.
3. Takes a 15 cells wide region starting with the cell selected in Step #2, and copies it to the region starting with the cell positioned one row up and 17 columns to the right.
4. Deletes the content of the original 15 cells wide region.

Caution:
1. If there are any numbers in column A besides dates, then the algorithm is wrong and the macro will fail.
2. If the dataset in the second date line is wider than 15 cells wide then the rest will remain in place. But the macro can be easily updated, just change the Resize line.
3. Don't run it twice on the same worksheet.
4. Always make a backup copy of your data before running the macro, because it is not Undo-able.

my mom has 6 years of photos on one of her 500GB HD's. She hates windows 7. Her latest complaint that I have not been able to figure out is folder sorting.

Mom has a folder called "camera dump" in the "my pictures" folder.
In the camera dump she has 6 years of folders containing photographs.

Currently windows 7 is sorting the left side screen like this:

1-18-2013
1-21-2014
2-05-2011
2-05-2012

The problem is mom wants them in proper chronological order.. In other words, all of 2011 in proper order Jan to Dec, and 2012 after that, and 2013 after that.

1-06-2011
2-29-2012
3-09-2013
5-28-2014
Can anyone tell me how to do that? Ive tried just about every sorting option I can find in windows 7.
I suggested to her that she use YEAR master folders, then put the months inside as sub folders.

Thanks.

I had downloaded some photos from Facebook in Windows 10, either in Chrome or Edge in the past three days. However, they are not listed in the download history, and are not in the download directory. I find that odd. However, I did know that Windows had shutdown upon updating. There have been no known quarantined files. I do not know how to view Chrome photo cache properly to browse which files they may have been. I remember vaguely some of them. They were not in the edge photo cache. But I remember downloading them. Also, both browsers do not show downloads past a certain date, which is odd. It makes it like there were no downloads, but i had downloaded the images very recently.

Answer:Downloaded photos disappeared in Windows 10. How do I recover them?

For this very reason is why I use a photo backup service.....once downloaded, they are backed up/saved to the cloud. I use onedrive and google photos backup. This way I have 3 copies...a hard copy on my HDD and 2 cloud backups.

As for your issue....try using Recuva, it's free, it may work for you.

I have a Sony digital camera and regularly download photos to my PC (System XP)where they get stored in My Pictures.I can then view them as a Slideshow, but if I try to view them individually, I get Microsoft Word in the header and rows of gobbledygook (letters & numbers) on the screen.Am I missing something when I download?

Answer:Unable to view individual downloaded photos

Sounds like you have got the wrong program association with your picture files. Presuming that they are jpeg then MS Word is not what you want.To check it is an association problem find one of your picture files in My Pictures. Right-click the mouse and select "Open with" then choose the "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer". If file opens as expected then its the association. To fix this double click on My Documents. Select Tools from the nenu bar then "Folder Options". Click on the "File Types" tab.Type J and in the top box scroll down to find the file types JPE, JPEG and JPG. Click on the file type and check in the details box under if any say Opens with MS Word. Select Change and then scroll to find the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer or an other photo program you want. Click Apply. Now any JPEG file you double click on should open with the new program.

My friend is running Vista Home Premium and can't open any photos from his computer or from his camera. He can't even print them out. When I try to open a photo, it tells me I don't have permission to access the folder but I am logged on as administrator and it shows that I do if I check the security options for the folder.

On top of that, if he downloads files (say from our school's blackboard web site) he can't open them. This includes itunes installer. Nothing!

How can I help him fix this? I usually take care of his computer but this time I'm stumped.

I have both HP Photosmart Essentials and HP Photosmart Primier. I inadvertently checked for the Essentials to always open my photos, when I really want Primier. Where do I find that list of 'open with'? I have looked everywhere. Probably in the wrong places.
Thanks for whatever help you can give.

Why do Videos I take with my Canon Digital camera not have a DATE TAKEN section like a photo?

How are you supposed to organize and know the date it was taken then?

Is there any simple way to print 4x6 photos with the date in the bottom corner, as I have been used to with my old fashioned non-digital camera?I am using the Microsoft photo software that comes with Windows XP and (though probably irrelevant) a Canon Ixus V2 and HP Deskjet 5550.Any help gratefully received.Thanks.

Answer:Printing photos with date

My Epson 680 has a date printing option in the print set-up. Don't know about yours. The alternative is to add the date with a prog such as Ulead PhotoExpress.

Wasn't their a discussion recently here about digitals that would stamp the date right on the picture? Someone is asking me this and I could have sworn a few models were given that did this but I can't find the post.

Windows 10 did an auto update to my Lenovo Flex 3 the other day. Today I went to access some photos and here is the message that I got:

c:\Users\fkbsa\Downloads\untitled design (38).jpg

Windows cannot find 'C:\Users\fkbsa\Downloads\untitled design (38).jpg'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

I get this message after actually clicking on the photo in the download folder:

This PC > Windows (C > Users > fkbsa > Downloads

Thank you in advance for all your help.

When I open i cloud photos or Google photos from the cloud they go directly into Pictures and eat up all my space. I don't want to store them in pictures, I want to store them in the cloud. Is there a way to remove them from pictures and block them from going in whenever I download the icloud or Google pictures app?

My digital camera defaulted to original date without my realising it. Can I change this date for the correct date now that I have copied them to my computer.I can view them in Quickime or RealPlayer.geedad

Answer:change date in digital photos

Properties Plus (281 K) click here Time/Datestamp editor XP compatibleIf you mean that you want to change file dates and times on the hard drive, properties plus will do the job well. Right-click in Explorer to get an extended properties plus dialogue box. If you mean that the date and time are stamped on the photograph, that is also possible but a bit laborious.

HiA fairly small query which I hope is easily solved! When I transfer photos from my Nokia 6300 phone onto Windows and store them in the Pictures folder it never shows any information for Date Created/Taken.I checked the photos on the phone and they all have information regarding the date and time they were taken. I was wondering why, when transfering them from phone to pc, this information doesn't get copied too? My husband has a Nokia N95 and all the photos from his phone transfer with all date and time info intact. It's probably something to do with settings but I can't see where I would change anything.Any help appreciated as I am trying to organise loads of photos on my pc and lots of them have no date info which is proving tricky! I am having to go back to my mobile and look up each photo to check the date and include it in the name of the file (once i know the date windows won't let me add any date taken info). Thanksbear

Answer:Date of camera photos not showing in windows.

If you open your photos in, for instance, Irfanview and click on the "i" button on the Toolbar for each file, you will/should be able to read the required information in a panel.

When I download photos from my Sony Cybershot to my notebook, using Windows Camera wizard to MY PICTURES relevant sub-file, they remain in the jpg file (& date) number order. But when I view or edit them in MS Picture Manager, I find some of my photos date order has been mixed-up compared to the order of taking and storing them on the camera folder and in the Explorer/My Pictures sub-file. So, when I simply wish to view them in a slideshow sequentially they are of course displayed as well out of order. Nor can I find a facility in MS PM to re-arrange them in date order? Furthermore, MS PM will not allow me to drag & drop them back into the date order (which would be a long job sometimes with holiday photos in any case!).

Has anybody a solution how to overcome this frustrating time-waster, please?

Answer:MS Picture manager mixing up photos date order

Welcome to the TSG forum.

Sorry, not familiar with M$ PM ...
But the freeware Irfanview Image Viewer and Editor is very popular here at TSG.
http://www.irfanview.com/
This should have some more tools as compared with M$ PM

My digital camera, like most, allows you to choose a setting to have the date appear on a picture when they are printed. When I view my photos on the computer there may be several that are too dark so using Paint Shop Pro I enhance them adjusting the contract so the picture will be lighter. The only problem is, when I print the picture that date the picture was taken does not appear but instead the date the picture was enhanced (or modified) is printed. So, if I take a picture on July 13, 2009 and enhance it on my computer on July 22, 2009 and then print it...the July 22, 2009 date appears on the picture. Is there any way around this other than importing the picture into Infanview and inserting the correct date onto the picture?

Answer:Original Date Doesn't Print on Enhanced Photos

If you right click on a photo and get properties, is the Created date the same as the Modified date after you make your edits and save? If so,....HMMMM, but if they are correct then whatever you are using to print with that puts the date on is reading the modified date instead of the created date. I'm using PSPX2 and from what I can see it maintains the created, modified and accessed date correctly after its been edited.

My wife's cousin has a Sony FD 73 camera. I don;t know how old it is but it uses a 3.5" floppy disk to record the pictures.
The instruction book I downloaded says the recommended OS is Windows 3.1 Windows 95 or later, so it is sort of an antique I suppose.
He needs to have the date embedded in the pictures I can't find a setting for this in the manual. Is there a way to change settings so he can do this?
Thanks.

I have the PowerShot A1100 IS with the ZoomBrowser EX system. I can see my uploaded photos all before September 26. Since that time I have transferred photos over six times, but I cannot find them. Now, when I take say 5 photos, and proceed to transfer - no problems. I can also see the photos that I took after 9/26/10. If I click on one of the photos, I am kicked out of the system.

When I search for my photos by date, the ones before 9/26/10 are readily available. I have looked everywhere for my photos so I can edit, email, order on line, etc. but I cannot even see them unless I take some more photos to transfer to ZoomBrowser Ex. Of course, I cannot find my original disk.

Can anyone help me? I have tried a variety of search methods. I am still learning. I have Windows XP.

Thank you!
Kariann

I would like to transfer photos from my android phone to my windows 10. But when I do the original create date on the photo disappears. I need the date to remain on the photos for a legal situation. Can anyone advise? Thank you.

Answer:How do I transfer photos from Android phone to Windows 10 without losing the original create date?

The date is still there in the photo properties of each picture. The two platforms probably use a different method to sort. In windows phone the date is part of the file name in addition to being included in the properties of the photo.
On a PC you can right click a photo and select properties to get the date.

Please can someone give me some advice as to how I can try and retrieve the data that I lost when playing around. I can only say in my defence that my laptop has "Intel inside, Idiot outside" Thanks Ian

Answer:lost all my photos videos data when stupidly accidentally restoring to an earlier date

You lost all your data, if you use the Lenovo provided restoration systems. Unless you have a backup of the later partition.

Every disk and/ or folder when I tick sort by name-ascending the damn thing reverts to date modified-descending if I leave said disk or folder and return. I tried "Enable_Auto_Arrange_in_File_Explorer.bat" and "Reset_Folder_View_Settings_of_All_Folders_to_Default.bat" courtesy of Brink to no avail.

Is there a way to get file explorer back to default sort (by name-ascending) for all disks, folders and sub-folders at once?

It was all fine last week and I've no recollection of playing with any settings. Very frustrating.
Thank You.

Answer:File explorer sort reverts to "date modified"

Solved by reinstalling. Pity but also got rid of a lot of rubbish.

Hello there & Happy New Year.

I have encountered this particular inconvenience on the 2nd day of 2012 while i was transfering photos and files into my PC with Win7.

In my Win7 PC, all files/folders created or modified within Dec'2011 and earlier are now all grouped under as "A Long Time Ago". This happens when I changed the folder to be "Group by Date" or "Group by Date Modified" with a combo of "Sort by type". I tried sorting in different ways of view to see if I can get it back to what it should be. Then i realised even folder newly created on 25 Dec 2011 is also grouped as "A Long Time Ago" too. I am not sure if this is an intended feature.

The only helpful part is that i will still see the newer files in chronological order if I sort by date modified on top of group by date modified.

I have been using this setting for folder view even for Win XP. As for Win XP, i will get "Yesterday", "Last Week", "Last Month", "Last Year", "Two Years Ago" and ultimately the whole chunk of much older files under "A Long Time Ago". Such perfect chronological order.

I tried to google for a while and not much of returns to this issue I am having. Perhaps majority of people does not group their files/folders in such way. But for me, I like the way how it was displayed that I know i have edited/created/moved whichever files/folders last year, the previous month or ... Read more

Same for me! Must be a Windows 7 thing, and hopefully someone at Microsoft is onto a fix.
