Sims characters on Windows Vista

Question: Sims characters on Windows Vista

I have recently bought a new Benq computer with Windows Vista, and my previous computer was with Windows XP. Originally my The Sims discs worked fine with the computer, and a few days ago I tried the discs in my computer, and everything worked fine. I was starting to renovate a house, when I realised that there were no people waiting outside. Once I had completed the house, no little previews of my family's faces popped up and a few seconds later a message popped up on the screen stating something along the lines of "It seems your users 007 and 008 have not been found on your source. Please check your discs and try again". I tried again and nothing worked.
I asked some staff at a games shop called Game, and they said they hadn't heard of it before, but seemed to know that it had something to do with swapping from Windows XP to Windows Vista. Now I was about to buy some Sims 2 games for the first time, and the staff at Game gave me a list of system requirements I needed to have and for Windows I need either a 98/200/Me/XP and I have none of them! Please help me work out these two problems...................
Thankyou a lot

Preferred Solution: Sims characters on Windows Vista

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What you need to remember is that The Sims 2 was released BEFORE Vista was out, so it's logical to assume that the packaging will not mention it. Most games that work on XP will work on Vista, but it help to confirm compatibility first.

If you go to The Sims 2 Website, you should be able to download a patch that will fix compatbility issues within Vista. I have Sims 2 myself, and it works great on even Vista x64.

Get the Sims 2 updates here:TheSims2.com - Updates

The original The Sims is fairly old, so you may not get a patch for it to work on Vista. But try here anyway: The Sims? - Official Site - Find your Sims community

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I have always been interested in Sims 3 and have the game and all the expansion packs previous to generations (world adventures, ambitions, late night and all the "stuff" packs). I have, up until generations, never had any problems playing any of them on my Dell Vostro 1015 laptop. I am currently using Windows 7.

When i installed Sims 3 Generations, that's when the problems started. The game ran smoothly, however, yesterday when I turned it on there was problems with two of my characters. On the family display unit on the left hand side, the character box of both sims was present, but their faces were no longer inside it. When i scroll over, the character name appears but not the picture.

In terms of these two characters themselves, one has disappeared from the game completely (even though they were there when I saved the game the previous day) and the other one is on screen but cannot be clicked on or interacted with. In addition, when I have tried to save the game, i received a notification stating "Error Code 12" and my game could not be saved.

I have downloaded all the available Sims 3 patches from EA and they have not made any difference and I have also tried the live chat with a Sims 3 adviser who suggests that it is my graphics card that is the problem.

He had me run dxdiag and this is the resulting log:

Looks like your graphics chip is on-board, meaning it's built into your motherboard. I'm not too keen on laptops, but I'm not sure it's possible to upgrade to anything faster than your 64MB of video memory. Your system is also assigning a portion of your RAM to your graphics, which means you don't always have 2 GB of RAM necessarily.

I didn't read all of that post as the majority of it reminded me of The Matrix, so I may have missed it if you already said you updated your graphics drivers.

Some older posts reported French characters appearing. I solved the problem by going to Control Panel, Keyboard, selecting the Buttons tab, and clicking on the Restore Defaults button at the bottom. Hope it works. Good Luck.

Hey everyone,

I recently purchased the sims 2 double deluxe for my dell inspiron 1525 laptop which has windows vista home basic on it and the game doesnt seem to be working. It freezes whenever I try to create a new family, play a family or go into town. The computer says the program isnt responding. So far I have emailed EA twice and they said to update my drivers, which I did. I have run it in combatability mode and as an administrator. There are no background programs up while I run the game either. Any ideas?

If i go to "my computer" and click it the window will say "not responding" and the program "my computer" freezes and i either have to wait for the program to end or restart my computer. I have all the requirements for sims 2 to install so why does it never work?

Hi,

I'm currently trying to create user-defined characters in Vista 64 Bit using the private character editor (eudcedit.exe).

I can create characters, but I can't select the user-defined font in the character map (charmap.exe).It's not in the list of fonts.

It does work in Windows XP and Windows Vista 32 Bit, but not in Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit.

Is there a way to use my own characters in Windows Vista 64 Bit editions?

In order to type "Emily", I have to enter ["][spacebar][Emily]["][spacebar]
Quotation marks only appear after pressing the spacebar or typing in another character. Typing the single or double quotation marks, immediately followed by the letter will result in a special character like:
['][e] - ?
['][a] - ?

["][i] - ?

Question: Sims 2 - Vista

OK problem consists of installing the game itself, when the disc is inserted the autorun feature will not display, when I go into my computer the DVD Drive has no Sims 2 image displayed onto it either. When i enter the disc myself and try to run the 'setup.exe' feature as the admin then windows will try to process this but will never actually start, no process will be created either. When I try to run the Autorun feature from the disc as the admin then an error message will be displayed saying:

Missing file:

Cannot find required DLL 'C:\windows\system32\AutoRunGUI.Dll'

I have tried researching but could not find any help, something did work by creating folder within the local disc and copying the disc content but if some disc have 2 discs for instance the main game has 4, then it cannot run the next one when it asks you to change. So anyone out there that can suggest ideas?

Cheers

Question: vista and sims

When i play sims deluxe edition with makin magic it gets to the first loaing screen then (It has come to our attention that you have installed another sims expantion pack after The Sims Makin' Magic. For this to work properly, The Sims Makin' Magic installer will now update your installation. Select OK to proceed) then it uninstalles deluxe and makin magic and i installed deluxe b4 i installed makin magic, called geek quad thay recommended i download the sevice pack 2 since xp was a service pack 2...did that and no diffrence. But if i try sims deluxe version by itself it loads about half way and shows the (program has stopped working) please help.

Answer:vista and sims

The Sims was notorious for its expansion packs back in the day.

The trick is you have to install them in the correct order for them to work properly, I had the same problem a few years a go.

The order in which they need to be installed cn be found at Order to Install The Sims Expansion Packs.

I recommend you uninstall all expansion packs (making sure not to delete save games etc.) and then reinstall them in the correct order.

I have The Sims 2 games on my Toshiba laptop. The games include most E.P.'s. The OS is Vista. Specs are: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor TK57, 3GB RAM, 250GB HDD, DVD SuperMult Drive. I have the latest updated drivers. I have all the game patches. I have had all these games on my other system (XP) and they worked fine so I know there are no problems with the games. I continue to have graphic problems no matter what I download or try. Is it just Vista?? If there is a thread can someone point me in the right direction? We can only play the game for about 5 min. until it starts glitching bad. The sims and objects start stretching out and become dis-embodied. If we continue to play big black blotches appear across the screen and don't go away. (other games work fine btw, so I know it's not the drivers) What to do? I am soooo frustrated!

Answer:The Sims 2 and Vista

Hi,
The symptoms you are describing, sound like the laptop is overheating.
Can you post your temps when your not in a game, and right when it starts messing up?
Use this tool, and for a screenshot press "Print Scrn/SysRq" then go into paint, paste the image, save, then upload.
CPUID
It would also be helpful for the exact laptop, the model, etc...
It's possible that "The Sims 2" is overworking your graphics card, or maybe it was a bad install. I have no problems with "The Sims 2" on my computer.

Question: Sims on Vista

Hi,
I know a lot of people have posted similar threads to this, but I have tried all their solutions and nothing seems to work!
I wanted to install my copy of The Sims onto my laptop which runs Vista, but it doesn't even get to the installation screen. I've tried installing it about 3 different ways and nothing happens every time. I have allowed it on User Account Control each time but then after that nothing further happens. I've changed the properties so that it is set to run as an administrator and on both Windows XP/Windows 98 but nothing seems to make any difference. I'm not getting any of the Sims screens up at all, and my laptop doesn't make any noise as to indicate anything is happening. Is this just my computer's way of telling me that it's not going to happen?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ill be playing a game (So far it has always been full screen games) and some random amount of time after I've been playing a vista themed bar will kind of flash (as in you see it for a second then its gone).

It looks like a one inch section of the task bar on vista with a white text field in the center and a green looping arrow on the right.

When ever I hold down or hit a letter key it will flash and some foreign characters will start appearing like I'm typing Japanese. So I have to restart my game to get it to go away, but after playing the game for a little bit it happens again.

Games it happened to: GTA IV, GTA SA, BF 2142, COD 5, and a couple others

Please help, and if any additional info is needed just say so.
BTW operating system is Vista 32 bit

Thanks in advance

this is an old issue some ppl have had, unfortunately none of the answers received have helped me with my current issue...

i upgraded my PC, and with that i went from Vista 32bit to Vista 64bit, and re-installed all the old games i had on my old machine onto the new one...

i installed the main game for Sims2 (no expansions installed yet) and tried to run it... and nothing happens.

i ran it in compatibilty mode... and nothing happens.

i ran it in both comp. mode and as admin... and nothing happens.

i had no problem playing it on my old machine, and this one is 100x better, but Sims simply wont start.

every other game i tried, from GTA to Crisis to CoH to AoC works fine, only Sims wont even start...

any ideas?

i tried the patch at the Sims site and it says my Sims game is up to date...

i cant believe that going from 32bit to 64bit would make such a difference.

Sims 2 keeps freezing and I was wondering if it was because i have 64 bit vista instead of 32 bit. I have 4gb ram. so i dont think its to do with that. and there is barely anything on my computer. and its new and not slow at all

Answer:Sims 2 compatible with Vista 64 bit

Hi. . .

Some 32-bit (x86) apps simply cannot run under x64 which may be the case here. I can also tell you that some of the SIMS programs cause problems under Vista x86 as well as I have some problems here with them when the kids run them.

I suggest that you check two areas within Vista for clues:

? Problem Reports and Solutions -
START | type wercon.exe into the Start Search box | right-click on wercon.exe that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | view "See Problems to Check". This will usually tell you if the program is non-compatible or if there were problems during installation.

? The Event Viewer -
START | type eventvwr into the Start Search box | right-click on eventvwr.exe that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | view the various logs starting with the Administrative logs.

Look through the log specifically for red errors and yellow warnings noting the date and time of the system freeze.

Good Luck to you.

So right now i'm just running on one expansion pack
Problem 2

I have the Sims 2 installed on a new Vista Home Premium Dell 1505 laptop, it has been running fine. Now we get no sound when running the game on the standard user account, but when I right click on the Sims 2 icon and pick run as Administrator it starts with sound and music with no problem. It seems to only be the game; it still has sound for everything else. I've tried searching the net for similar problems but can't find any.

Hello =) I am aware that there are numerous topics about Sims being used on Vista, but I have not found one that helps me with my specific problem (other than this, which did not really seem to help: http://forums.techguy.org/games/718275-installshield-problem-unknown-error.html.) I have "The Sims Complete Collection," and I know that at some point I had it running on my laptop which uses Vista. However, the game would not properly save etc so I uninstalled it. Yesterday I tried reinstalling it to no avail. It would begin to install, and then an error message would pop up saying "Unknown error encountered, aborting setup..."

I have Vista, and this is the 1st Sims, not the 2nd or 3rd. I'd just like to know if it's even possible for the Sims to run on Vista because so far I have seen a lot of topics wherein people are complaining about their problems etc.

And if the first Sims would not run on Vista, would the second or third?

Thanks for any help =)

Answer:Sims on Vista. (I know there are numerous topics of this.)

I'm afraid Sims 1 will have a lot of problems trying to run on your system because of it's age. You may have better luck with Sims 2, or Sims 3. Although, because Sims 3 is so new there are a lot of sticky problems with it. Also, people buying Sims 2 Collections are having problems with Pets. If you install the Business Collection before installing Pets, then revert back to the Business Collection cd to start the game you should be fine. Please do not take this as Gospel because I am not a computer or Sims expert. Just trying to help.

I'm having a slight problem with my new game. I have the sims 2 deluxe and bon voyage installed on windows vista. I downloaded a few things...hair clothes etc., but when I went to extract my files to the right folder, it wasnt there. If I'm right, I'm supposed to extract them to c:/my documents/ea games/the sims 2 bon voyage/downloads. but that doesnt exist. As a matter of fact...the sims files arent even in my documents. I did find the Sims files, but it didnt have a download file. So, as instructed, I proceeded to add a download file, but for some reason it wont let me. Can anyone tell me how to use the stuff I downloaded?

Hi,
I am not great with computers and only know the basics. Been having a look around for a solution to this problem and tried a lot of different things. Here goes -
I have vista and my Sims Deluxe & expansion packs were working fine until a couple of days ago when everytime I tried to open the game a message came up saying I had installed a new expansion pack and it was updating (I hadnt as I already had all expansion packs installed and working fine). After this it kept bringing a message on screen saying it was installing. I have been unable to open the game since. I have tried uninstalling the program, which it wont allow me. I have used the sim eraser and then deleted manually and tried reinstalling. I have also tried checking the compatability and running as an administrator with no luck. I'm giving up hope, It wont even allow me to remove the program and start again. I am stuck. Sorry this is so long winded, hopefully someone can help.

I installed the Sims Deluxe Edition on my laptop (with windows Vista) and it installed successfully. But anytime I try to run the game, it exits to the desktop during the loading sequence with an error message saying that the game unexpectedly stopped running.

I have checked out my specs with the games and my laptop has all the requirements, and the game works on my other computer (desktop with Windows 2000). I've tried running the game in compatibility mode for XP and 2000, and as an administrator as well.

Any suggestions or fixes? Thanks all in advance.

Searching for a fix for my younger sister. She says it crashes when loading occupied or unoccupied lots, or when moving Sims into a lot. I installed the following myself, with no errors: Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Pets, Seasons.

I don't play the game, but she showed me the error. It's a basic dialog box that says something like "This application has crashed. The application will now terminate.". Nice and vague, huh? Well, we programmers call this a handled error, hence nothing in the Windows event log and we can blame EA!

Snooping around, I found a logs directory with application minidumps and some mostly unhelpful logs. Let me know if anyone wants me to zip some dumps and/or full logs. From Origin (or even without origin, just trying to run the game from my desktop alone), I cannot play the Sims 3 or my only expansion pack, the Sims 3 Pets.
I have two other games installed that work completely fine: Plants vs. Zombies and SimCity.

The error happens just a few seconds after trying to launch either of the Sims games, without even opening the launcher. This is what the error message says:
Code:

Sims3LauncherW.exe - Ordinal Not Found

The ordinal 304 could not be located in the dynamic link library iertutil.dll.

Then, after clicking "OK" on the prompt, I get this:

Code:

Sims3Launcher

Sims3Launcher has stopped working
Windows is checking for a solution to the problem...

I have had 5 chats with 5 different people from the Origin online help chat, and as suggested I have tried all of the following, all to which none have solved my problem.
Logged out & back into Origin
"Repaired" games from inside Origin
Restarted my laptop
Manually uninstalled Origin, then reinstalled Origin from the Origin website
Uninstalled the Sims 3 Pets and The Sims 3 (not manually, I would need guidance for that), then reinstalled both
Updated AMD drivers
Installed Windows updates
Clean booted my laptop

I have two excel spreadsheet that I need to compare using vlookup, using case number to do so. The two sheets have case number stored differently, for example, one has the, displayed as 2012DT00001 or 2001CM00012 and the other sheet displays them as 2012DT1 or 2001CM12. Obviously, they are the same record but when using vlookup to compare the record and bring over information that is on one and not the other it does not work well. I have tried using vlookup to compare and look for approximate matches (TRUE). However, when I look at a sampling of the information it misses 80% of the records. At this point, I am thinking that the vlookup function is missing those records as a result of the two case numbers being different as a result of the unneeded zeros in the one. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:How can i edit characters within a string of characters?

Here are two ways to do it:With your data in Column A:
A B
1) 2012DT00001 2012DT1
2) 2001CM00012 2001CM12
In cell B1 enter the formula: =LEFT(A1,6)&VALUE(RIGHT(A1,5))Drag down as needed. You can now use Column B in your =VLOOKUP() something along the lines of:=VLOOKUP(B1,Sheet2!A1:B2,2,1)The second way is to use the formula directly in your =VLOOKUP() which eliminates the need for column BSomething like:=VLOOKUP(LEFT(A1,6)&VALUE(RIGHT(A1,5)),Sheet2!A1:B2,2,1)The trick is in the: VALUE(RIGHT(A1,5)) section, it takes the last five characters of your text string, IE 00001 or 00012and converts them from TEXT to a NUMBER, and since Excel strips out any leading zeros in a number you end up with your required digit.See how that works for you.MIKEhttp://www.skeptic.com/

Hey, im new to this site but...
Every time I try to move a Sim into a house, the music starts to skip and it freezes and/or crashes. It can't be any of my computer specs because I've been running the Sims 2 since the first one came out and the crashes have been occurring recently. Any help or explanation to this problem would be awesome. I've also just found out that it only happens when I try to move a Sim into a downloaded lot. My game was running fine (no hacks or cheats on), however I'll be making phone calls to improve my relationships and after I've completed the call the sim disappears. I can run out and meet a walk by, say good bye, then call them on the phone then it's gone. The missing sims are still showing up in my list of friends though. And now I'm finding that when he sleeps and it goes into fast speed, it runs slow. Then when he wakes up, it runs ok.

I'm not letting my sim age, but without the cheat. He drinks the elixir of life. I thought it might be his memory log, but it dosen't seem to have an awfull lot in it. I thought about dumping the happy logs, but I've been trying to play it without any cheats on. when this most recently happend again, the sim only had three friends.

I haven't seen it played out too far into this condition, but so far their friendship levals are dropping and they are deleting from the town. Any ideas why and how to fix it?

We have .Net 4.5 based WPF application. It works correctly on Windows 7.
When we moved it to Windows 10 it started malfunctioning.
On investigation we found that when we type a set of 2 character typing will make one Chinese character.
In windows 7 when we press first character it is converted to <BLANK space> for display in text box. When we press another character again it decides the final Chinese character to render.
In windows 10 this behaviour has changed.
when we press first character it is NOT converted but render as it is. When we press another character it decides the final Chinese character to render, by replacing first and second character typed.
Is the expected behaviour of Windows 7 vs Windows 10?

Answer:.Net 4.5 WPF application worked fine on Windows 7, malfunction on Windows 10 for Chinese characters. Is this expected?

Sounds logical.

I've had the sims 2 game and two expansions, sims 2 pets and nightlife, for about half a year. Everything worked fine until recently I started playing and my sims' skin is all white and covered in codes. Some of the clothes and pets have this problem too. This does not change when I make a new family, change their clothes/appearance, or play a family that came with the game such as the Goths. They've all turned white and coded too. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game and the problem was still there. There are no damages to the discs. I've even tried only installing the Sims 2, in the case that it may be the extensions causing the problem, but with no luck. Any suggestions to my dilemma? Thank you.

Hi there,

I have a few folders with a lot of subfolders which brings me to the limit of characters of the file path.

My System is:

Windows 10 Pro
Version 1703
System Build 15063.674
64-Bit

In order to be able to have more subfolders, I have already tried to remove the 260 character limit by running gpedit.msc and enabling "NTFS long paths" (Local Computer Policy>Computer>Configuration>Administrative Templates>System>Filesystem).

However, when I put a long file into a folder which would then exceed the 260 limit, explorer crashes.

Has someone an idea how I can once and for all remove the 260 charater limit?

Thanks!

Wow... I love the dates on some of those folders!! 2052!!

Anyway, It looks like some of your system files might have been corrupted.

This could have been caused by a virus. Try running a virus scan, or if you don't have one, here'a free one. http://housecall.trendmicro.com

If you happen to have Norton System works, try running an integrity scan, or run Norton Win Doctor.

Im running Windows NT and going through explorer I need to rename certain files. Is there a limit to how many characters you can have for filenames i.e. a standard default of say 20. Or is there a way to have unlimited characters?

Thanks

Hi all,

I just noticed that iTunes in the x64 version of windows 7 doesn't display any japanese characters. Judging by the nature of the problem, I don't think it displays any foreign Unicode characters.

I have my computer set up to properly display (and also type) japanese. I surf japanese websites all the time and for some reason iTunes refuses to do this. I tried sifting through the new preferences interface but can't find anything with regard to unicode support for applications, or anything related to it for that matter.

Any input regarding this issue is greatly appreciated, even if it regards a completely different language.

thanks.

Hi.

I am trying to use windows desktop search to find all files that have a filename stucture of filename1_(2).jpg, filename2_(2).jpg so that I can mass delete them. I can not seem to find a way to search for this a windows search seems to want to include everything between the ( and ) and being part of an or function.

Any ideas.

BTW, this happened when using windows photo import. for some reason, it did not properly ignore existing photos.

Thanks

Hi

Have the XP CD ready, get into Control panel>Regional and Languages and you'll need to instruct XP to install support for "East Asian languages" and "Install files for complex scripts" under the "Languages" tab.

Also under "Text services and input">Details>Advanced, tick the top most option.

Apply that, reboot and you should be right.

Exakt same problem as this guy:

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-7/892050-japanese-characters-not-displayed-windows.html

But I couldnt write in that thread. It was closed for some reason.

Answer:Japanese characters not displayed in Windows 7

Why would you write in someone else's thread, anyway?

Do you have East Asian language support turned on in Control Panel? Have you tried installing tha Japanese language pack (should not be needed just to display Japanese)?

Do you see Japanese characters in my signature?

With Microsoft Word, Wordpad and Notepad running in XP and Win7, you could type any unicode character by typing its number followed by Alt+X. For example, you could type ≠ by typing 2260AltX. This doesn't work in Wordpad or Notepad running in Win10; it seems to work in Word, but other codes don't work. Is there a way to type '≠' from the keyboard in Win10?

Answer:How to type unicode characters in Windows 10?

I haven't the right keyboard available on my laptop, so I can't test this, but the way we used to do it was:
Press and hold down the Alt key.Press the + (plus) key on the numeric keypad.Type the hexidecimal unicode value.Release the Alt key.
This comes from:

How to enter Unicode characters in Microsoft Windows

Which leads on to this small utility:

UnicodeInput - a utility to enter Unicode characters on Microsoft Windows

Which I also cannot test.

In Microsoft Word, there must be numerous published macros for handling Unicode - some will be better than others - just go to:

microsoft word unicode macro - Google Search

for loads of links.

My control panel setting is correct.

Very grateful for any ideas about how to fix this annoying problem...

Thanks,

Hello. I have an HP computer running XP Home that recently had the following message and wouldn't boot:

Windows could not start because of an error in the software.
Please report this problem as :
load needed dlls for kernel.
Please contact your support person to report this problem

I ran HP Recovery which resolved that error... but now I have another problem. During the recovery process there were several .DLL files that it said couldn't be recovered. Now when I boot I get the HP startup screen, then it goes to a black screen with about 10 random characters and figures which aren't even on the keybord, in the top left corner of the screen. It doesn't boot past this. However, if I press F10 during startup (which should be System Recovery) it doesn't give me the garbled letters and it boots normally. Has anyone come across something like this before? Thanks!

Answer:Random characters, windows won't boot

Hi Jools,

This should sort it out.

Run the System File Checker:
Click Start >> Run >> Type sfc /scannow (note space after sfc), then click OK.
You may be asked to insert your Windows disc.

If when you insert your disc, it auto starts, close it down so that you can see the command window.

The process may take quite a while, be patient and wait until you see a new line which should say "C:\Documents and Settings\****>

(**** being your name or computer name.)

Then reboot and let me know if this solved your problem.
