Malware Detections of Free Anti-Malware/Anti-Spyware

Question: Malware Detections of Free Anti-Malware/Anti-Spyware

Donna over at Calendar of Updates has posted a second test regarding the viability of free anti-malware and free anti-spyware programs - Malware Detections of Free Anti-Malware/Anti-Spyware

see Malware Detections of Free Anti-Malware/Anti-Spyware - Calendar Of Updates

For those who don't know, Donna also previously posted another test, Rogue Detections: Old, Not So Old and New Threats

Preferred Solution: Malware Detections of Free Anti-Malware/Anti-Spyware

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Malware Detections of Free Anti-Malware/Anti-Spyware

Hi John

Looks like a fairly good test, unfortunately it's on an XP box. Do you know if they plan on running one on a Vista system, since the way that many malware works will affect it's viability on Vista systems?

Thanx for the link! Still lots of good info there for our members.

Hello everyone!

My McAfee subscription through Dell runs out on Sunday May 23, 2010. I would like to know what are the best Free Anti-Malware, Anti-Spyware, and Firewalls out there. I looked at the list that is on here, but could not figure out which one is better for my situation.

I currently have as Anti-Malware and Anti-Spyware : a-Squared free, Spybot S&D free, MBAM free, and SUPERAntiSpyware free. I have Windows Defender and Firewall turned off because of interfering with McAfee.

I currently do not have the money to renew my subcription with McAfee, nor do I have the money to buy a paid full service security program with firewall.

My question is what do you recommend I should do and what programs are best for my situation?
PS: I was thinking of Microsoft Security Essentials, for 2 reasons: 1) It's Free and 2) my computer already has a lot of Microsoft programs on it. Has anyone had any experience with this program?

Answer:which are the Best Free Anti-Malware and Anti-Spyware

Groffeaston,

I installed MSE on my sisters W7 computer and she thinks it is great did that about 2 months ago when it was new. If you use MSE it wlii turn off Windows Defender because it includes it own spyware component. Use the Windows firewall with it cause from what I have read on MS sites it doesn't play well with third party firewalls. When you go to uninstall the McAfee makes sure to use there removal tool to get as many traces as possible otherwise you may have a problem installing MSE.

Good Luck Mr. Phelps this message will self destruct in 5 seconds!

I don't know the Difference b/w Anti-Malware & Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware.

Is ESET a Anti-Malware.

How the Users are able to Know that this antivirus can be used as Companion with any av (like CIS + EAM)

Answer:What is Difference b/w Anti-Malware & Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware

long time ago, in ancient ages, where computer were barely able to reach 333Mghz , they were a distinction between Virus, malwares and spywares.

Virus is a specific term that includes items that modify your files then replicate itself and jump to another computer.

Spywares were mostly items that silently collect datas and transmit them to someone; they include cookies, trojans, adwares, monitoring tools, etc...

Malwares is a most generalist term that includes all forms of malicious items such as viruses, worms , trojans horses, rootkits, spywares, etc...

at that time security softwares were design to protect only some of these categories, for example , i had to use Avast (very basic at that time , with an interface that looks like a music player ^^) alongside Spybot Search & Destroy and Adaware (both specialized against spywares)

now these terms are obsoletes since any antiviruses/malwares are similar by detecting and cleaning all of them.

I need some help and advice with a scan I have just performed with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (version 2.22.1.1043), which I updated prior to the scan. It detected 800+ objects, which I found very unusual. Going through the list of detections they were all PUPs and all linked to another software programme on my PC: Advanced SystemCare. I do not attach a scan log because I did not produce one. At the end of the scan I did not allow Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to remove the detected objects. This is because I was concerned it might affect the functionality of Advanced SystemCare. Why would Malwarebytes Anti-Malware find all these problems linked to another programme? What should I do?

Answer:Malwarebytes Anti-malware False Detections?

Malwarebytes and IoBit have a history of not liking each other. It's a long story but you can see articles online like the below:

http://www.computerworld.com/articl...it-accused-of-stealing-from-malwarebytes.html

https://dottech.org/13126/malwarebytes-vs-iobit-fiasco-comes-to-a-close/

But by saying something is a PUP, it does not mean it is malware. It just means what the letters stand for ( Potentially Unwanted Program ). Sometime scans/tools from programs like Advanced Systemcare get installed when other software is being installed without a persons knowledge or by not reading the popups and notifications/license agreements.

If you don't like this or feeling strongly about it, you can post on their forum but it will probably not change anything.

Any recommendations for free security software?

Answer:Free Anti-virus, Spyware, Malware

Hello Here are some Anti Virus recommendations.Avira AntiVir or Avast Home EditionPlease note its is best to only run one anti virus programI recommend Comodo Free Firewall as your firewall. Its much lighter on you system than ZoneAlarm. And here are a few Anti Spyware utilitiesSpybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.Head over to the Freeware replacements For Common Commerical Apps topic for more

Answer:Best Free Anti-virus? Best free Spyware Malware protection?

The most problems that i find is with the info that cookies manage to send out.. as for the good old virus i can honestly say that i can blame that on Zone Labs. so i got me a virus checker and malware or cookie killer.all i can say is that you get nothing for nutin in this world. so do yourself a favor and spring for the few bucks, this i can honestly tell you, my internet provider supplies the big MAC for free and yet i prefer zone alarm.

have a good day

as the thread title mentions, looking for some solid free 'Anti- Virus/Malware/Spyware' software.

it's for my brother's family PC which i've just finished building. not looking for perfect cover, just something that's 'fire & forget' or enough to keep 'em out of trouble so they're not calling me every few months to fix their machine. i know a single piece of software isn't going to do the job (tho consolidation would be nice) however ideally should run automatically in the background with little user input.

after having a quick look at the 'How-to Guide' sticky,
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1426658

thought these 3 suggestions might cover their PC;
-Avira AntiVir Personal
-Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
-Spybot Search & Destroy

would running these on my brother's PC be enough or should i be looking at something else?

Hi,

I was wondering what is the best free protection software I can use against virus/spyware/malware/etc, I can run on Windows 7. Currently I'm running Super Anti-spyware Free Edition, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free, and the latest McAfee Good Security Package provided by my Internet Service Provider (that claims to have the best protection on the market). I'm not sure how true this is, but would this be a good combination of programs to protect my system without conflicting with each other. What about Microsoft Security Essentials Free Edition (but I don't think I can run it with McAfee since it will conflict)? I used to run Avira Anti-Vir Free edition, until I switched internet providers and got McAfee for free. I did notice with McAfee that my system did use more resources, meaning I hear my CPU fan running a little higher than usual, but other than that, no issues.

Any suggestions as to which software combination I should keep on my system and which ones I should remove?

Windows 7 64 bit Home Edition (i3)

Answer:BEST Free ANTI-Virus/spyware/ malware combo?

If you're remaining with freebies:
Avast, Avira, etc antivirus will work for you [don't forget to not-install and/or disable un-wanted/un-needed modules].
SUPERAntispyware, SpywareBlaster, Spybot version 1.62, along with the others you mentioned will be ok.
I removed MSE from my laptops 'cause it wasn't needed.
Comodo Firewall [ditto on un-necessary modules] will work fine.
Windows 7's Firewall is really good! Comodo Firewall is not needed unless you want a "backup firewall" lurking unused.

I'm more and more going with pay-fors because I have better setup, configuration, settings, tweakings with pay-fors. Note: the data files for detection and alerting [and for many - removal] are the same for free and fee.

First of all i would like to apologize if this topic is in wrong category, or it should not even be asked on this site. And second of all, please be patience i'm a noob looking for answers So whats all about? Well i'm meeting new terms here and i have no idea what they mean and what they do. And as anyone else i wanna be safe in this era of cyber-crime. So basically i know whats a anti-virus and a anti-spyware and that they can run together. Also i heard that 2 anti-virus don't do good but 2 anti-spyware do. So what i'm asking is, what is a anti-malware? Can a anti-malware, anti-virus, and anti-spyware run together? Could you suggest some good+free of those 3? Sorry for my bad English and being such a noob

Answer:Anti-malware, Anti-virus, Anti-spyware

Florin, you might take interest in this thread, though it may be quite a bit of reading: What's the Best Anti-virus?

It is there that they discuss all kinds of different antiviruses and coupled security software. I personally only use Microsoft Security Essentials, but I have used it along with Malwarebytes for added security in the past.

Basically, you could have your system completely locked down with lots of extra security, but in some cases it becomes a hassle because of how much your computer becomes protected and overly secured. If you prefer a speedy computer over security, generally you use less security software, but if it is the other way around, you will want beefier security software which may slow things down slightly. That link I've provided will have most everything you will need.

Answer:Best free anti-virus/anti-malware/protection for Windows XP 32-bit

There is no universal "one size fits all" solution that works for everyone and there is no single best anti-virus. Every vendor's virus lab and program scanning engine is different. Each has has its own strengths and weaknesses and they often use a mix of technologies to detect and remove malware. In many cases choosing an anti-virus is a matter of personal preference and what works best on a particular system. You may need to experiment and find the one most suitable for your needs. Hello,

I have a problem that is far beyond my limited skills. One of our people has a laptop that has either malware or a virus infecting it. Two symptoms are present: first, when using firefox web pages get redirected to advertising or to unrelated google searches; second, the machine seems more sluggish than usual.

I have tried to download anti-spyware software (e.g. Spy Sweeper, CounterSpy, MalwareBytes, Superantispyware, PC Doctor) and nothing works. In some cases such as Counterspy and PC Doctor, the executable will run but the program will not update (and thus, not allow for a scan). In other cases such as MalwareBytes, the executable simply will not run.

I have run a Trend Micro anti-virus scan. It seems to detect something but it crashes before the scan can complete. The same thing happens with Panda Activescan. Last night, I ran Panda Activescan for over 8 hours. When I woke up, the scan had frozen at the 52% point and had found 1 infected file, which it didn't appear to clean up.

Anyway, I'd really appreciate any help.
Best regards,
Jordan

Hi shearty,Welcome to BC HijackThis forum. I am farbar. I am going to assist you with your problem. Please refrain from making any changes to your system (updating Windows, installing applications, removing files, etc.) from now on as it might prolong handling your log and make the job for both of us more difficult.Your log(s) show that you are using so called peer-to-peer or file-sharing programs. These programs allow to share files between users as the name(s) suggest. In today's world the cyber crime has come to an enormous dimension and any means is used to infect personal computers to make use of their stored data or machine power for further propagation of the malware files. A popular means is the use of file-sharing tools as a tremendous amount of prospective victims can be reached through it.It is therefore possible to be infected by downloading manipulated files via peer-to-peer tools and thus suggested to be used with intense care. I'm always trying to keep up with the latest and greatest anti-spyware and anti-malware programs. I use Avast as my anti-virus program and for my main anti-spyware/anti-malware programs I use:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Spybot - Search & Destroy
SpywareBlaster
SUPERAntiSpyware

I also sometimes use:

Ad-Aware
a-squared
RogueRemover

Are there any other good programs I should know about? I figure the more the better!

Thanks!

Answer:Are there any good new anti-spyware/anti-malware programs?

Spyware Terminator.-- Web Security Guard is included in the download but not required. After installation you will be prompted to Enable Web Security Guard Toolbar. This browser add-on (similar to Site Advisor) is enabled by default so be sure to uncheck the box if you do not want it installed. If you install WSG by mistake, it can easily be removed later via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.-- If you already have an anti-virus application, there is no need to install the optional Clam AntiVirus integration. ClamAV does not have a real time scanning engine but you can integrate it into ST's Realtime Shield to include virus scanning support. However, you can overkill your system with resource heavy security programs that will drain your resources and slow down performance. Sometimes you just have to experiment to get the right combo for your particular system as there is no universal solution that works for everyone. mvps.org is no longer recommending Spybot S&D or Ad-Aware due to poor testing results. See here - (scroll down and read under Freeware Antispyware Products) Further, most people don't understand Spybot's TeaTimer or how to use it and that feature can cause more problems than it's worth. While not free, I recommend using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and taking advantage of the Protection Module which uses advanced heuristic scanning technology to monitor your system and provide real-time protection to prevent the installation of most new malware. Hi,

I have just spent two nights removing the "Fake System Restore" virus from my girlfriends laptop
by following the guide on this site, so a big thankyou to whoever wrote the guide.

Now I want to make sure her laptop is protected as well as I can with free software.

I have installed; AVAST anti virus, Zone Alarm firewall and MalwareBytes onto the laptop,
but I now wonder if there are any other reccomended programs that I should install
to help avoid spyware, malware and viruses?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Answer:Which are the best Anti Spyware and Anti Malware programs?

I recommend taking advantage of the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (Pro) Protection Module in the full version which uses advanced heuristic scanning technology to monitor your system and provide real-time protection to prevent the installation of most new malware. This technology runs at startup where it monitors every process and helps stop malicious processes before they can infect your computer. Keep in mind that this feature does not guarantee something will not slip through as no product can detect and prevent every type of malware. The database that defines the heuristics is updated as often as there is something to add to it. Also keep in mind that Malwarebytes does not act as a real-time protection scanner for every file like an anti-virus program so it is intended to be a supplement, not a substitute. IP Protection (malicious website blocking) is part of the Protection Module and works after it is enabled. When attempting to go to a potential malicious website, Malwarebytes will block the attempt and provide an alert. IP Protection is also designed to block incoming connections it determines to be malicious. Enabling the Protection Module feature feature requires registration and purchase of a license key that includes free lifetime upgrades and support. After activation, Malwarebytes can be set to update itself and schedule scans automatically on a daily basis. The Protection Module is not intrusive as the program utilizes few system resources and should not conflict wi... Read more

I have Avira Antivir Free addition. I was wondering do I also need an anti malware protection? Which would be a good and cheap anti malware?

Answer:Anti Malware, Anti Spyware Software

Well, I do not run any anti-spyware/malware protection in real time but I do scan with it often. All the products I use to do this are free and easy. My favorite ones are SuperAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot Search and Destroy. Since getting the first two, I rarely use Spybot for scanning as it is much slower than the others and I feel the others do a better job.

However, I like Spybot because it has an immunize feature for immunizing you system against known bad threats and also has a feature called SD Helper which is bad site blocker, anyways I think that is the name of the feature that does that. Also it can help you control what programs are allowed to start on bootup. Do not use that last feature unless you are an advanced computer user and know the difference between what does and doesn't need to start up when the system does. For most items, Spybot will give its recommendation on keeping that program running if you open the side panel and click on the item. Good rule of thumb on that one is, if it is a Windows program, leave it running, if it is for a program you just installed, you can decide if you want it to run or not when the system starts up. Other than the windows programs, the only things I allow to run on start up are my keyboard (as I use its customized features) and my anitvirus/firewall program.

Answer:Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.x vs Zemana Anti-Malware 2.x (Premium only)

This is difficult. I use both as on-demand scanners. I've been using Malwarebytes for years and it's saved my butt on numerous occasions. For that simple fact alone, I'm going with Malwarebytes, but do not shy away from Zemana (in fairness to Zemana, it's a fairly new program). If anything I'd say Zemana AntiMalware feels a bit lighter, but that's really the only fault I can provide. I'll be interested to see what others think.

Hello. I am working on a friends machine that seems to have a nasty infection. This machine is a dedicated server running Windows Server 2003 Web. Everything I am doing to it is via remote desktop which is making it a little more of a challenge. Web browsing on the server was incredibly slow when he asked me to take a look at it. I figured he was infected with something so I was going to try and install a few things on it and run a few scans, only to find that all of the sites that I found to use are blocked or disable by whatever is infecting the server. Any attempt to access an anti-virus or anti-malware website results in a message stating server cannot be found. Any other website can be accessed though.

There is an FTP server running on this machine, so I do have that availability to FTP to the server to get any file or program to it that I need to. Please just let me know what you need from me and I will get it up here as soon as I can. I am a fairly experienced user and can grasp things pretty easily. Thanks for your time, I greatly appreciate it.

Question: Free Anti Malware

I am recently unemployed and homeless. My Webroot AS and Trend Micro AV subscriptions are about to expire and I don't have the money to renew. Would like to hear from ya'll about your opinions on the best free AS/AV programs. I read on another thread that Grisoft is good, does everyone agree on this? Also, I have heard that uninstalling old programs can be a trick. Any info on this? Thanks

Answer:Free Anti Malware

AVG Free is a good anti-virus, the only down-side is that the free version only updates once a day where as AVG's paid versions update upto hourly intervals.http://free.avg.com/download-avg-anti-viru...=fr_bn_free_670Spybot - Search & Destroy = Free http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.htmlAd-Aware = Free http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.phpYes, anti-virus programs can be a pain to fully un-install, however some anti-virus companies provide removal tools to fully remove their programs.

What do you think I should use as a second opinion scanner?

Until now I use ESET + MBAM. I never used EMSISOFT but I always hear good things about it

Answer:EMSISOFT Anti-Malware free or MBAM Free as a second opinion scanner

Why not both using MBAM and Emsisoft Emergency Kit? On demand scanners should help you to track down potential infections as possible with various tools available.

Emsisoft AM is a full blown AV but it can be experimental on other security products as combination just use at your own risk as possible.

Greetings:I just had my computer formated again. The technician/friend who did the work told me that I needed a good anti-virus, firewall and anti-spyware program. I told him that I previously had AVAST! (which was recommended on this Forum and which I liked immensely) but when he checked the AVAST! website, he pointed out to me that the free version only gives anti-virus protection but no firewall or anti-spyware protection. He especially feels that the firewall is essential security. Well, does anyone know where I can download for free a program that gives excellent anti-virus, firewall and anti-spyware protection? Free A-Squared Anti-Malware

The Giveaway of the Day website is offering some very nice software packages from time to time. Today?s offer is A-Squared Anti-Malware in version 3.5 from Emsisoft which can be freely downloaded and installed from the website. The software developers can spread their software to a wide variety of users and gain some free marketing from websites like mine who write about it.
The offer is good for another day which means you have enough time to download and install the software package. The usual retail price for the software is $39.95.
A-Squared Anti-Malware tries to be the ultimate solution in the fight against malicious software, it protects the computer against all kinds like trojans, keyloggers and rootkits meaning it is more than just an antivirus software.

It?s a great PC software especially for the price. It?s especially of interest for those users who missed the A-Squared Anti-Malware offer the last time.

It seems free Anti-Malware programs are as scarce as free Firewalls.
I have been using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Home (Free) which is probably the best. But I have had enough. When I click Update it takes up to 10 minutes to check for updates at a speed of no more than 50kbps. Then it downloads the updates at 6-8 Mbps. Clearly there's not a problem on my side or with my ISP.
Does anyone have the same issue?
Is IObit Malware Fighter Free as good?

Answer:Free Anti-malware Software.

Not having that problem with MalwareBytes free version updates. It varies for me from about 20 seconds to, at worst, about 1-1.5 minutes for it to fully complete. Maybe the issue is current problems with servers geographically.
I do use IoBit Uninstaller but I have to say I am not at all keen on anything else of theirs.

So I've been using Superantispyware, malwarebytes, spywareblaster, adaware, and spybot. But I've eliminated Spybot and adaware because spybot messed up one of my programs and adaware just works too slow when scanning. So I'm wondering is there any new software I could check out?

Answer:any new anti-spyware/malware software

Here's a website that lists uninstallers for various antivirus and antispyware programs. The alphabetical list of companies can give you a starting point so you can do a company search for more info about their products.

Security Software | SingularLabs

Then there's this list as recommended by Microsoft.

Windows 7: Consumer security software providers

Or, you could do a general internet search for antivirus providers, antispyware providers, as well as for products that detect and even provide on demand scanners for root kits, trojans, key loggers, etc.

I am working in Safe mode & I ran the Malwarebytes anti malware as the prep suggested. It did find problems & removed them. When I go to regular mode it does not allow me to run exe files, asks what program I want to use to open exe files. I am assuming there is a root key problem not that was changed with the malware I had. I have gone back to the safe mode. I would like to know how to fix this new continuing problem. I will attach all logs for what I have done so far.

As I am operating in Safe mode I cannot see the whole screen, sometimes there are buttons on the screen that I cannot see. I ran the GMER but I do not see the ARK file I am supposed to attach. I hope I have provided enough information. Thanks for your help!!! Have a Merry Christmas.

Hello Guys, I'm running Windows 7. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials. I normally run a separate Malware/Spyware. I had Spyhunter but it lapsed today. I was wondering if you can recommend a better replacement. Thanks you.

Answer:Looking for good Anti-Spyware/Malware

Hi, I found these 3 things (msa.exe, findbasic125.exe, h.exe) on my machine and tried to remove them with spybot, adaware and malwarebytes, but when I tried to do this, they crashed.

After that, if I try to open the program, I get a message saying "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".

I have tried all the processes that were suggested in the read and run with the following results:

Couldn't re-open Supersypware to retrieve the log.
Malwarebytes opens, but when I press scan, it closes and then i get the same message above.
Comdofix - won't work, it comes with "connecting to server to get updates" but then goes blank and nothing happens after that.
Rootrepeal - successful, log attached.
MGtool - log attached.

I use windows xp.

Can someone please recommend an anti-virus program that will also remove any spyware, or malware.

There's so many products out there, that for someone like me, I just don't know what to get. I don't expect free, but I can't pay an arm and a leg either.

Thanks so much,
Judy

Answer:Anti-virus,malware,spyware help Please.

No product will protect you from all infections and none can remove everything out there. Many free products work just as well as the paid options but nothing will protect you 100%. You, the end user, are the best defense.

The best method for protecting a system is to start with secure the system and being knowledgeable about online safety.

Running Windows with a limited user account, keeping ALL software updated and removing any software that is not used can help to reduce the chance of infections.

Hi,

I have this latop that I know if severely infected. I know for certain it has the Total Security & Windows Antivirus 2009 malware. I have also found traces of Lampsy Trojan, Biforse Trojan, Lineage-AV Trojan.

I have been able to kill these manually. I beleive there must be more infections. Whenever I try to install or run ANY type of anti-virus/spyware/malware it fails. I have tried MalwareBytes, SpyBot S&D, SuperAntispyware, Asquared and some others. These programs will either install .. IE ... the installer shuts down right away, or they will install but as soon as a scan is initiated they are shut down ... and once shut down they will not open again.

I have tried the renaming of the scan exectuable files as I read in some forums. This has no effect. No matter what I try no program will operate. I know there are still infections because regedit.exe will not start, msconfig will not start, when I right click on my computer and choose "properties" that wont load either.

I can see that iexplore.exe is running, and whenever I close it, it restarts itself without actually showing the browser. If I delete iexplore.exe from Program Files another one spawns.

I cannot boot into safemode. When I try, the drivers start to load but eventually the laptop just reboots itself after a point.

This PC just has be stumped. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Help. Fairly new to computers, brand new to this wonderful site. I am running windows XP, Firefox for my browser. My wife is on facebook alot but last night every time she tried to switch users from my kids to her, the screen would go blue then reboot automatically. Sometimes it would endlessly reboot. I shut it off, rested my brain for 5 minutes then rebooted.

I tried to run my antispyware/malware programs; SuperAntispyware, Malware Bytes, Ad-Ware, and Spybot ,but none of them would start.

What can I do? I have not been updating my Windows (which I have learned is important), but I run my antispyware/malware programs once or twice a week.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:None of my anti spyware/malware programs will run

Uninstall mbam then reinstall itIf mbam won't installSome types of malware will disable MBAM and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it. Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. Then double-click on it to run.

I am convinced that this program YouCamService.exe CyberLink YouCam Service (32 bit) helps hackers access and control my laptop
camera app Youcam. By using a mobile phone or any wireless device a hacker that has hacker apps and knows the PC's/laptop's mac address (which I wish was encrypted and available only at the user's discretion) and understands Windows login permission protocols
and requirements, can access the laptop or PC's functionality. They also sometimes install scripts (hidden in browser cookies) which using the same methodology as that mentioned above can slow you browser, even windows explorer making your pc hang especially
when you at critical moments in your work. Can we get an IT expert from Microsoft support team to investigate and/or reaffirm this notion and offer a anti-hacker malware that's more effective and relates to all wireless technologies more than the anti-spyware/malware/virus
we download as users?

Answer:Hello. I'm new. Best anti-virus/malware/spyware?

This is what I tell folks who ask the question you have.
Choosing a security toolkit with anti-virus, firewall and anti-malware programs is a matter of personal preference, your needs, your technical ability and experience, features offered, user friendliness, ease of updating (and upgrading to new program release), ease of installation/removal, available technical support from the vendor and price. Other factors to consider include detection rates and methods, scanning engine effectiveness, how often virus definitions are updated, the amount of resources the program utilizes, how it may affect system performance and what will work best for your system. A particular anti-virus that works well for one person may not work as well for another. You may need to experiment and find the one most suitable for your use and your system. There is no universal "one size fits all" solution that works for everyone and there is single no best anti-virus.Choosing an Anti-Virus ProgramSupplementing your Anti-Virus Program with Anti-Malware ToolsChoosing a Firewall

I am trying to do all the scans in the 'read me first' section, and I can't. I can download them, and once super antispyware begins, it shuts down.

I need help!

Answer:Can't run any anti spyware/malware scans

Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run.
There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Administrator

You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

Rkill.exe
Rkill.com
Rkill.scr
Rkill.pif
Once you've gotten one of them to run then try to immediately run the following.

Download and save the below to your PC (save it anywhere you can find it. The Desktop is fine). Then double click on it to run it.

AVPFind.bat

It should take a couple minutes to run. You will see a black command prompt window while it is running and it should close when it is finished. Once it finishes, attach the c:\avplog.txt file that is will hopefully create as long as the malware does not block the batch file from running. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Now download and Run exeHelper

Please download exeHelper to your desktop.
Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
A log file named log.txt will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com
Attach the log.txt file to your next message.
Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting fil... Read more

Recently bought a Lenovo Ideapad 100 with Windows 10.

It came with McAfee pre-installed.

Yesterday the unmentionable happened. Miscreants in foreign parts attacked my computer, and then tried to ransom it back.

Right now I am doing a factory reset.

Question is: What is best combination of protections to use on Windows 10 to prevent this from happening again? Ad-Aware, AVG, Avast?

[After I uninstall McAfee, of course.]

I would prefer something that is FREE!

What do you recommend?

Thanks much,

I just installed this program on Mom's computer. I've been looking for such a good, free anti-malware program for quite some time, even asked at other forums I belong to, but was always told "this one" or "that one" etc by others. It was like a wild goose chase finding a reliable, free anti-malware program. I have 3 windows laptops that I haven't installed anti-malware on, now I think I'll install  MB on each of these computers.Er, I have a question about MB: why when you're doing a quick scan, why is there a button that says "buy now" and next to this is an "activate" button?    I thought MB was completely free, no need to worry about paying fees for updates for as long as you're using your computer (and MB) which might be many years to come?

I was thinking about this today, how can some of these companies release their programs for free, yet remain profitable? What's in it for them besides being for the good of mankind?

Such as Malwarebytes and Avast, which I both use, are free. They both have frequent updates, yet updating to the Pro versions doesn't have a super advantage. And even for the upgraded versions of these types of programs, how can they only have a one-time only fee?

Answer:How can some Anti-Malware programs remain free?

Some of their revenue (maybe most of it) comes from paid advertising on their websites.

Answer:Effective Free Anti Malware Software

Welcome to Major Geeks!

The most complete way to remove this infection and also be sure that nothing else came along with it is to follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.

Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
Notes:
If you run into problems trying to run theREAD & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

Hi all. I've been searching for a free anti-virus/anti-spyware combo that actually has real-time protection (AVG Anti-Spyware free doesn't - and this is crucial), but can't find anything. Is there a good solution for this? So far, I've only found real-time protection in the pay versions of everything.

Hi guys
Can I scan my PC with Ewido Anti-Malware in normal mode?
Can I use Ewido Anti-Malware and Spyware Doctor in my PC? Not, of course, at same time, but first one and after the other.
Thanks and regards.
Darthy

Answer:Ewido Anti-malware And Spyware Doctor

Hi Darthy.

Ewido can be used in normal start-up mode. It will still detect malware and delete it. The reason that it's recommended to run in safe mode is just to make sure that it can delete any malware that runs in normal mode that does not run in safe mode and therefore protected. Its always best to run in safe mode, if only to avoid the agro of running a scan in normal mode to find you have to run it again in safe mode to delete a problem that you cant do in normal setup.

....and yes, you can run Ewido and Spyware Doctor programmes after one another, which is a good thing to do, just not together as they may conflict with each other and not work properly.

Just always remember to update Ewido and Spyware Doctor before running a scan, which you need to do in normal mode as you cannot update in safe mode.
