Need advise for upgrading my PC and it's cooling

Question: Need advise for upgrading my PC and it's cooling

Hi. need some help here plz.

so a while ago I bought my first PC (that wasn't bought on a wallmart). I wasn't very knowlegeable on the topic and my budget was limited but with some help from the vendor (who is an enthusiast) I managed to get something I was happy with, and I'm still happy, I can play nice games and do stuff, but I think it's time for some upgrading. here are the specs of my rig:

CPU: AMD A106790K APU @ 4000 MHz BLACK EDITION
Motherboard: ASUS A-88XM A

Memory: KHX1600C10D3B1/8G x 1
Graphics: AMD RADEON R7 240 2GB DDR3
Storage: SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.12 1TB... REF :-(
Case, power source: COOLER MASTER ELITE 431 PLUS, EDGE 600W AF-B600P
Other Peripherals: LOGITECH G600 MMO, KEYBOARD? GAMEPAD!!!
Operating System: WIN 7

So that's about it. Because of limited budget I didn't bought any other fans or disipators so the case has 3 open slots for fans, two on top, above the CPU and MOBO and one on the upper back. the case came with a fan in the front for the hard drive, and there is the fan from the power source, the CPU and the graphic card, but that's about it. The front fan pulls air from outside and the power source pulls air from the case. (forgot to put it on image, but back slot is where "BACK" label is)

So basically I want to put to use those open slots on the case, mostly because I live on a stupidly hot country (like 40°C hot) and I do have had one event where the CPU shut all down because of overheat (basically went above 74°C). I would like some advise as to how to choose a good product that fits my needs and what should be the configuration of the fans (since I have read that air input and output should be balanced or bad things happen).

Also, I wish to upgrade other parts of my rig, the RAM is no brainer, just get a sister to my existing card, however the graphic card is another story. The vendor assured me that the MOBO, CPU and power source were good enough so that I wouldn't have any bottleneck issues if I later decided to upgrade the graphics, however I would like your opinion on what can I expect to put on that rig without having those issues (basically what are the highest graphic card specs I can expect it to run without problems). I do have a personal preference for AMD solutions, so keep that in mind (since intel stuff costs are way, way too inflated on my country).

I also want a new HDD (SSD is still on the list, but right now I want more storage), so what would be a good option for that. the one I have was basically a default option, but I would like to know if that's ok, or I would be better of with something else.

finally, what should I keep an eye on when purchasing a display. in the store they all look good, but then I brought my new samsung display home and dark/bright scenes look awfull and it makes me sad.

thank you very much in advance for your time and help and apologies for the wall of text.

Preferred Solution: Need advise for upgrading my PC and it's cooling

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Need advise for upgrading my PC and it's cooling

Well RAM should be no issue as to the fact your mobo can handle up to 32 gigs or RAM so another 1x8 gig should do you quite fine as long as the RAM matches CAS, voltage, DDR3, and speed; as you say "no brainer."

Go for an SSD and run your OS from that and utilize your hard drive for games. SSDs are coming down in price and it will make your load times so much faster.

As a fan of Cooler Master your case is fine. Here is a link to it from Newegg.com Seriously consider getting those fans and keep in mind that between intake and exhaust, exhaust is the more important of the two. Also, AMD chips run hot. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119256 - check out the fan options under specs.

Honestly, the only thing to upgrade for gaming purposes would be your video card. But here is my question: Are you having any issues gaming with your current system? If not seriously consider an SSD.

As for your monitor Samsung makes excellent ones. Did you calibrate/adjust the settings? What connection are your using: VGA, DVI, or HDMI?
By the way, really nice system on a budget. You got good advice.

Question: Advise on cooling

Hi, I have after much deliberation decided to (for the first time) attempt to build a new rig. I have decided to go with the new Intel I5 processor as I read that this remains pretty cool. I have therefore bought a fairly cheap cpu cooler (Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775). The case I am going to use is an Antec 902 which I read was good for cooling. I have no intention of overclocking any time soon or until I know what I am doing by which time I can maybe spend more on cooling. Will this cooling be suffice any advice would be greatly appreciated

Answer:Advise on cooling

Do you have the mounting brackets for Socket 1156? It will be better than the stock cooler I would think.

Hi,

I occasionally experience PC shutdown when playing some games. I've opened up the PC to check cards are seated correctly, etc, and it gets VERY warm (well..hot!!) in there. The source of the heat appears to be comming from the gfx card (nVidia Geforce 5500). Everest and Speedfan report CPU temp of 60+ C. With the side of the casing off - it goes down to about 55C.

Should I consider getting extra fans for the casing or perhaps an exhaust because I don't want the CPU to melt.

CPU is AMD DURON 1.2GHz and I've googled around top find that this CPU can operate at temps up to 95C - what could be going on inside the PC.

Any other specs anyone needs are up above next to my username

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Answer:Cooling advise needed

55C with the case off it pretty hot for a duron cpu. I would do a few things.

1 Have you cleaned the system lately? Give it a good cleaning with a can of air [available at any office store or computer store]

2 If that does not help, I would pull the hsf and clean all parts with 99% alcohol. Reinstall the hsf with a fresh layer of arctic silver. Note I always recommend pulling the board for a socket A type cpu. The hsf can be difficult to mount correctly. With the board in the case you have a good chance of either cracking the die OR getting the hsf installed wrong.

3 How is the case cooling? Do you have at least 1 exhaust fan pulling hot air out of the case?

4 Does the inside of your case look like a rat's nest? Do some work tying up cables, etc. This helps with airflow.

I currently am using a cooler master centurion 5 case. (terrific case). I am building a new system:
Running win 7
intel 4570 i5 processor with stock cooling fan.
asus z87 pro (v edition) mobo.
16 gig of ram.
running 3 hds
planning on using the intel on board 4600 graphics card
case has 1 80mm fan mounted in lower front
1 120mm fan mounted back of case.
I do cad work and use office software some video editing, and dvd burning.
My question: do I have sufficient cooling for my new system or do I need to look for another case with additional fans?
thank-you

well i started overclocking my cpu. i only bumped it up a little to a 2600+. wow, i know. temp is alright, but i want to go farther probably to 2800+ or 3200+ at the highest. i know this chip can take it. my problem is i've been out of the loop on pc gear for a while. and i want to know what some of you recommend for a cooler. i dont want to break the bank either. i have a ZALMAN CNPS3100+ on there now with two case fans and it just isnt cutting it. it seems to run a little warm at about 55C.

thanks for your help.

Answer:Need Cooling Advise For Overclocked AMD Athlon 2500+ Barton

Yeah that is pretty warm, well you can upgrade to the zalman CNPS7000B-Cu LED (or none LED doesn't matter) heatsink/fan which work real well. Can buy it for a little over 50 or a little under 50 depending on where you buy it. I am running a 3000+ Venice overclocked 800 mhz, and at idle it sits at 27, running games around 36-38.

I'm on 98 at the mo, and am getting a copy of XP pro, Its the full version, but at the mo, i'm on 98. Can i just upgrade from 98 to XP Pro with the full version CD, and not lose all my work, Or is it a case of having to format, then install from scarth?

Answer:Advise on upgrading to XP pro

You can just upgrade like you say. Just back up all of your work first to be on the safe side. However it's probably best to format and do a clean install of XP pro.

Hello All.

I am looking to upgrade my current Mobo and Processor.

Ideally I am looking to go for a AMD 64 X2 5000-ish CPU and I am a bit lost on a good MSI or Asus (or other) board to get. Need to keep the price down, but would like best possibilities for under 150-200 euro. The machine is mostly used for gaming, but think I am finally ready to drop the 939 and get a AM2 slot board which I hope to upgrade further early next year. Any advice ? Thanks.

Currently using a 3500+ AMD 64 on a Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9RH board.

Looking to use the same RAM and video card :

Nvidia Gforce 7900 GT/GTO
2 x 1GB pc3200

Thanks again .
GBE300

Answer:Upgrading , need advise

the AM2 platform uses DDR2 RAM, so you'll need to buy new memory as well.

since there isn't a big performance difference between socket-939 and socket-AM2 you may want to just get a faster 939 to hold you over for a while. a dual-core socket-939 Opteron would be a nice upgrade to a single-core Athlon64 3500+.

AM2 is going to be replaced by AM3 soon. also, the release of AMD's "Barcelona" processors will most likely force price drops on dual-core AM2 parts.

if you're set on upgrading immediately then you may be better off going the Intel Core-2-Duo route instead

Hi all im wanting to upgrade a pc that was built for me by a friend a while ago. It performs well as it is but im wanting more. Im new to computer hardware and this is my first 'gaming pc' It currently contains...
CPU: Intel pentium G3220 dual core
MOBO: MSI military class 4 H81M-P33
GPU: Asus Geforce GTX 650 Ti
RAM: Crucial Ballistix 8GB
PSU: CIC 700UB
I am first thinking of buying a Intel Core i5 4690K. The cores reached 60'C in a stress test and the GPU 79'C (without OC as I cranked it up abit and it hit 88'C before I turned it down) so I opened it up for the first time today and seen that it had only one case fan on the front sucking air in. I moved it to the side blowing air out and the CPU went down 2 while the GPU went down 9 so im going to order 3 more fans 1 more on the side, front and back.
Other then that im pretty stuck. As I said im new to this so any help and advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi !I'm new here and would appreciate any help I can get in upgrading my CPU. I have a ThinkCentre M75e 5044 A12, currently running AMD Sempon 145. I was wondering whether my upgrade options are limited by my M/B VRM and if so, what is mine. Will I be able to use a 125 W TDP processor ? Or only one that is rated 95 W TDP ? I do understand that I'll also have to upgrade my PSU as well. Please advise me on the best possible CPU upgrade path that I can take. Hey there, I got this used system from a friend for 50 bucks, it looked decent so I figured why not. Currently running Linux Ubuntu because he didn't have an OS disc for it, planning on doing a dual boot thing once I find my windows 2000 disc and use the xp upgrade disc he gave me. Anyway I wanted to get your opinions on what to upgrade.

So far I've decided to purchase some new ram and am thinking of getting a gig of WINTEC AMPO from newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161675
Also I have a question, can I combine that 1gig ram with my current 512? I haven't tried it before, so I was wondering...

Here is my current system info:
AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 1.86 Ghz
512 MB Ram
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
80gb and 120gb hard drives
Motherboard: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/KT3Ultra.htm

For more details on the computer I've uploaded an rtf document with system specs here:

This is my first time ever really "revamping" a computer so any help and advice appreciated! Thanks.

I would really welcome advice on upgrading from ME to XP Home on an Evesham computer (AMD Athlon 1.3, 256 Mb DDR) purchased in May 2001. I have been advised that I should first download from Evesham and save to disc a modem driver that works with XP so that I can subsequently download new drivers for components. Is there anything else I should know. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Please advise on upgrading from ME to XP Home

Get click hereEverest to ID the components of your machine and see if it you can get the drivers for your hardware for XP.Then do a clean install of XP rather than an upgrade. Even with the upgrade version you can format and install.

Answer:I need advise on upgrading my Laptop

Go to Crucial and run a system scan, it will tell you what your options are and their ram is guaranteed to work.
http://www.crucial.com/uk/?gclid=CK_7w7yqvYcCFSdTQgodjDKDsQ
You need to get a Dell compatible hard drive, if you just get one "off the shelf" chances are it won't work.
You also need to check if there is a bios limitation on how big a drive you can install

Hi Community I got a Lenovo T61p 6463-4YG Just upgraded with 8GB RAM and Intel SSD 520series 240GB, and got a Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000 2.8Ghz/6MB cache, coming Next week. The T61P only got the Intel on-board graphic card...Sadly The PCI-E slot is empty.....my questions is what dedicated graphic card will fit in that slot?I want the biggest possible Hope anyone can help me out Best RegardsKasper Winding

Answer:Need advise with upgrading T61P

Hi Kasper. You would need to be a bit more specific about the upgrade intentions. From my side - you already have a great CPU and paired with 8GB of RAM - you have the backbone of a very high performance laptop. In addition to that, the SSD will definitely improve the overall speed as well. I believe your "upgrade" intention refers more to the video options. For one thing, please note that Intel-GPU-based motherboards run cooler, which is better. If you are refering to the mini pci-e slots inside the laptop for an addon video card or 3d processor - I am not aware of anything like that (I'm not saying they don't exist, I just don't know any 3D processor implemented in a mini pci-e format). So, for a video upgrade you would need an external solution (there are a few, with pluses and minuses on each ... VDock, e-gpu, Advanced Mini Dock with PCI-E addon card ...). Hopefully this clarifies a bit what your options are ... Kind regards,

Hi,

I am thinking of getting the X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series sound card by Creative but am getting some mixed reviews about it online. Some people are saying it is amazing and some are saying it is crap! It is alot to spend on a sound card - but I really do love my music and think it is time I spent on an upgrade... My current card was about £35.00 (Around $40) not bad but totally not very awesome either lol

Does anyone have, or perhaps know anyone with one of these cards?

I am also looking to upgrade my speakers (as one of them is blowing)

I am looking at between the GigaWorks T40 Series II and the Logitech X-540 - I am a little deliberant on the GigaWorks T40 as in if this could offer a good bass with it's BasXPort system? I am an ardent Bob Marley fan so must have base!

Any advice here is welcomed!

I have not posted on here for some time so hope I have posted in the correct section.

Answer:Advise upgrading RAM for T430

I put two 8GB sticks in my T430s. DDR3 is now very inexpensive. I paid a more a few months ago, but I've seen 2x8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 for as little as $50 in the past week.

While I agree that 16GB may seem like overkill, I believe that in the long run it will be the best and lowest cost option. I've now maxed the RAM I can put in my T430s. I benefit from that extra RAM by being able to minimize, if not disable altogether, paging. That makes my system perform faster.

If I put in less RAM now, e.g. a single 4GB or 8GB stick, then when I needed to upgrade in the future I'd have more leftover RAM to dispose of and prices of DDR3 would likely be much higher than today. (Look up the prices of previous generation DDR2 today. I expect the same will happen to DDR3 after DDR4 comes out.)

Hello everyone.
I have been experiencing FPS drops, lags, freezes and random crashes in my PC while playing the new high end games such as Assassin's Creed Syndicate, FIFA 16, etc. even while running them on the "Lowest" graphics settings. So I searched on the net and found out that it has to do something with my hardware components. So I just wanted to ask what type of changes should I make in my PC for making these games run properly.
My specs:-

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 240 Processor (2 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
Ram: 8192MB RAM
DirectX Version: 12
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650
Motherboard: Asus M4N68T-M LE V2
If any other information is required, then please tell me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I'm about to embark on the process of upgrading our backbone switches from 1Gbit to 10Gbit, and was wondering if I should go all-fiber for the backbone (All SPF+), or go with 10Gbase-T with SPF+ uplinks?

Basically, I'm debating between getting the Netgear XSM7224 or the Netgear XSM7224S. Any thoughts or possible pitfalls I should be concerned with?

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

- Space

Answer:Upgrading Backbone of our network - Looking for advise

SFP+ is generally uses less power and the add-in NIC's are cheaper. Honestly, the downfall is the lack of interchangeability/cross-compatibility on DAC's. Generally crossing brands of optics works but if DAC's is your goal it can get dicey. Long range capability & low latency is also nice. Fiber is cheap and generally easy to work with especially if you aren't new to it. If your upgrade involves running wire, i recommend using the best fiber you can afford/justify, taking the distance into consideration. Future-proofing for 40Gb & 100Gb could be attractive, just be sure to run a minimum of 5-pair (10 strand) fiber on long distance runs.

10Gbase-T is just about standard for new servers with 10Gb capability built in. You are seeing less and less SFP+ based NIC's built in. Standard CAT6 patch cords can be nice in a data-center is nice if that's what you are set up for (if you have fiber trays as well it's not really an upside). Downfall is shorter distances, higher latency and higher cost for add-in NIC's. The latency could be enough to warrant using optical based media in storage network environments. We aren't talking huge difference but in the storage world it makes a difference.

Hello everyone, am interested in making my Rig a little more quiet, I currently own a radeon hd 7970 vortex by powercolor, I was wondering about the Nvidia Geforce Ti 780 according to a recent article in tomshardware.com found here (Best Graphics Cards, CrossFire, And SLI Over $500) the geforce is a bit more expensive but quieter, I was wondering how much more quiet is it really, is there much of a difference at all? I know I could go with water color, but I don't feel comfortable with my ability to undergo such an endeavor just yet. So, basically i'm asking if anyone knows which card is the quietest and best performing at full load preferably under $800.

Hi,

Ok I have a Dell E310 2.80ghz, 1gb ram, 80gb harddrive, 128mb intel intergrated video shut off upgraded it to a 256mb pci nvidia geforce card and now when I play the sims 2 it wil freeze up some and sometimes using the comptuer i get blue screens but before thiswhen i used intergrated video al i did was ge blue screens like every 5 mintues. So now i'm wondering 1. my power supply is a 230w and the card calls for a 250w do you think I should upgrade it do you think thats what is causing problems? 2. I saw in other posts where video cards an get too hot becuase of cooling right now im using the stock heatsink and fan is there any cooling devices they make for the nvidia geforce fx oc 256 mb card also this card is overclocked I didnt overclock it i dont know how but it says overclocked on the box can that be causing the problem? Also is there anyway to tell the temp of video cards? Thanks very much everyone I dont have a clue whats wrong

Answer:upgrading psu? cooling?

Im Sure that the cause of this problem is the Power supply, 230W is Nothin, so change the Power supply and everythin should work just fine, and no its not cuz of ur GFX Card being to hot,

Question: Upgrading cooling

Hi, I was wondering what all cooling upgrades I could do to a Dell Dimension E310. But not liquid or water cooling. I was wondering where can I put fans and how they just have 4 holes in them and where do you plug them into.

ALos I have the graphics card upgraded to a GeForce FX 5500 Overclocked and it still hs the stock heatsink and fan, is there any cooling upgrades I can do to the card as well\

Thanks for reading this

Answer:Upgrading cooling

Cooling fans

I've got a Zalman 92mm fan on my MB and I've never had a problem with heat. I put some thermal paste on it before installing so thats important to remember.

As far as your video card goes, you should be ok with what is on it provided you have enough air running through your case.

Just curious though - why don't you want to go water/liquid cooled? Granted, water and electronics don't usually mix. You can't beat it, though, for cooling ability and silent operation. It is a little more of the costly side, though.

Hi,I have a Compaq Armada M700 notebook and I wish to purchase an upgrade on the system's hard drive since currently it can only hold a maximum of only 6GB. However I am a bit stumped on what type of hard drive in which I should buy for the notebook. An official Compaq Armarda drive costs well over £60, therefore I wish to buy an alternative which costs less than this. I heard that any 2.5" drive would fit into most notebooks and wonder if this is true with my particular notebook. Also any advice on what performance indicators I should look out for while buying these drives would be greatly appreciated since this is the first time I am upgrading a notebook. Many thanks.

HiI upgraded my Armada M700 last year. It had a 17gig hard drive, I changed this to a 40gig seagate momentus click here £45 from click hereIt took about 10 minutes to swap. i upgraded the O\S from 98se to XP.A lot may depend on the bios version of the laptop as to what size hard drive you want to upgrade to. The machine has worked perfectly with the upgrade.

So I bought a pretty nice gaming pc about 2 years ago...and i want to keep her around but add some upgrades.

Heres what I have on board at the moment:

Amd Athalon 64 x2 3800+ Processor
Ati x1900 512mb videocard
3 gig of corsair ddr ram pc3200
ABIT KN8 Ultra Motherboard

I wanted a dx10 videocard so I just snagged:

Now i am considering upgrading my processor to an amd 5600+ or 6000+ x2...but don't know if I should upgrade my motherboard at the same time?

I want a pretty good gaming pc, and have heard great things about that videocard. I am new to upgrading myself but am excited to learn. Please give me your input.

If you think mobo and new processor plz give me some ideas...thanks so much

Would like to upgrade the video card in a Gateway system I bought back in 2001. The system came with Win ME, a 1.3ghz Pentium 4 chip, Intel Monterrey Motherboard, 256mb of RAM, 20gb HD, 250 watt PS, Sound Blaster Live Value Sound Card and a 32MB NVIDIA GeForce2 MX AGP Video Card.

I've since upgraded the OS to Win XP, bumped the RAM to 512mb, and replaced the tiny 20gb 4500rpm HD with a Seagate 300gb 7200rpm drive. I tried to upgrade the PS but found out it's a Proprietary type so I guess I'm screwed there.

I'm not heavy into gaming, the boys and I play Half-Life, MechWarrior, and some other older games but the current NVIDIA card just doesn't seem to hack it as we get slowdowns and freeze-ups in parts of some games.

My question is, would this video card be a decent, low-budget upgrade that would greatly improve our gaming experience? Would it integrate and work with my ancient six year old system? Any knowledgeable advice would be welcomed.

Hello!
The LG "053X2G LP140WF3 SP D2" 14" is the only matte IPS screen currently available in my area. It should work in my laptop but before I buy it, I need clarity on the following things:
1. I read in some amazon laptop screen listings that you need 2-way video cable for an FHD screen. I am aware of 30 pin connector but should I be worried about this so called 2-way video cable.
2. Is the process of changing the screen in latitude series simple like for example it is on an HP Probook or is it complex? If it is a little bit complex than I would rather do it myself rather than letting the screen seller do it.
3. What other factors should I watch out for when upgrading a laptop screen on latitude 5470?

Answer:Need advise on upgrading HD+ (1600 x 900) of Latitude 5470 to FHD IPS screen

It looks like on this model, there are only two cables - one for touch and one for non-touch.
the service manual will answer the rest:

I have been thinking of upgrading my memory as I feel it may not be sufficient as games are becoming more demanding. I have two 4GB Gskill ripjaw memory sticks (and I'm thinking they may be failing on me due to Bsods). Link for Bsods is here if anyone wants to help: "An attempt to execute non executable memory" BSoD. What's the Cause?

I was thinking of getting these Gskill Ripjaw 8gb on Newegg. My main concern is whether or not I should get the two or an additional 8GB stick and install that as they are DDR3 and I think I read somewhere it's better to have three sticks than two because it's faster. I'm not really sure if these are memory sticks worth getting for my gaming PC or not. There is also 2666MHz memory but I don't know if my board supports that and if it's worth it compared to 1600MHz. These are some things where I would like some clarification on. XD

Also, My motherboard is a Gigabyte z77x UD3H. It can support up to 32GB of memory and has 4 slots. I'm not entirely sure of its exact specifications so if anyone could tell me if the board can actually handle all of this memory I'd appreciate it.

Here's a list of my specs:
Mobo - Gigabyte z77x UD3H.
Memory: 2x 4GB Gskill Ripjaws-X 1600MHZ.
SSD: 256GB OCZ Agility 4 SATA III.

Hello,Yesterday the cooling fan 90b broke inside my laptop.  I heard a low noise like a CD was spinning incorrectly and than my computer overheated and shut down.  Upon restart I got the 90b error message.  Can anyone please point me in the direction of a guide on how to replace my 90b fan, and a place where I can buy a replacement part?  Thank you very much, ThomasBrodsky

Answer:Cooling fan 90b error message and malfunctioning cooling fan...

Dear Thomas, 90b Error message occurs when there is firmware or a Hardware issue with the fan. Please install the following update on the Notebook. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp67001-67500/sp67052.exe It is the bios update, most likely to fix if its a firmware issue. However, if the issue persists, kindly contact our support center.we will be happy to help you fix it. Cheers!

I just bought an external hard drive and it came with a fan integrated in its case. Does it mean that it needs to run all the time or if I use it for a short period of time can I just run it without fan working? Also if I use it without fan will it only stop working of overheating or will it completely break down? Thanks.

If its integrated, it shouldn't actually give you a choice to turn it on or off. Does it have a switch?

I think my computer has a cooling problem, or more accurately, a heat problem. It has shown tendencies to freeze up during games (the very purpose of this system and the reason it was purchased), especially graphics intensive ones.

Since The Guy and I have been busy buying a house and moving to it, I didn't have time to look into the issue until this weekend. I apologize in advance for the long post... I'm trying to make sure I don't over-look anything.

This weekend, partially unpacked and reasonably settled in the new house. I started started checking temperatures with SpeedFan. My goal was, of course, to try and determine if it was heat that caused the freeze-up crashes.

When running a game, or when running Folding, the CPU gets up to around 90C and steadily climbing, after 10-15 minutes. One of the two 8800 GT cards--the lower one, sits steady at around 65, and the one in the top slot actually has not been checked by SpeedFan, since it was removed before I started, on grounds that it's on-board heat sink was hot enough to literally burn my fingers. So I don't have an actual number for that card's temperature, but I am quite sure that hot enough to cause visible burns on human skin is a bad thing in a graphics card.

Here's where it gets interesting. My dual-core CPU is water-cooled, and the tubes pass right above the burning hot 8800GT, with less than half an inch to spare. When I touched the tubes, they were both very warm to the tou... Read more

Answer:Water cooling, SLI graphics cards, and lots of air in said water cooling

i dont really have much experience in water cooling, but after some searching on google, i found that bubbles are bad.

FROM THIS ARTICLE: http://www.overclock.net/overclock.php?file=articles/water-cooling-guide.htm

Filling, Bleeding, and Leak Testing Your System

Explanation of bleeding: You have to get the water into your system some how, right? When you first put the system together air is in your lines. To get the water into the system I like to use a T-line. The only purpose of this line is to give you a place to pour everything in and let air out. If you?re using an anti-corrosive, you have two option for mixing your coolant:

Option 1 (easier!): Get a gallon of distilled/de-ionized water, pour it into a larger container, then add 6.4 ounces of anti-corrosive (or 4oz if that is all you have), close container tightly, shake (not stir ) container. And there is your coolant. Mark on the container ?TOXIC! DON?T DRINK! BAD! TOXIC!? Or something like that. You now have enough coolant to fill 3-5 watercooling systems!

Option 2: As you fill your system with water, measure or estimate the amount of water you are pouring into your system, then find 5% of that. That is how much anti-corrosive to add. You don?t want to have your system 98% filled then try and get 5% of anti-corrosive in. It?s not going to happen. So you have to pour water in, get some air out of your lines (to allow for more fluid), pour 5% of anti corrosive in, then pour some more water i... Read more

My cooler does not work, and I get the message:
"Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected.
Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service."

After that the cpu gets ridiculous slow.
My laptop is a toshiba 5205-S703. I can't take the laptop to a service repair cause here in Brasil we can't trust in such services.

My cooler is not running not, I think It is damaged. I opened the laptop and lubrificate it, but it doesnt work.

I **think**, the problem can be:
- just the cooler (I will order a cooler as soon as I discover a place on the internet where I could order OEM parts);
- the cooler and the processor (as the processor is very slow It may have damaged the processor). My processor is a P4 Mobile 2.0ghz. And I dont know where to get a new processor? Anybody know?
- or the worst of all. The motherboard function which triggers the cooler was damaged. If this happened I think I lost my laptop

Can anybody help me on this? dMy mail is "[email protected]"

OEM Laptop parts?...

OEM laptopparts?... Good luck call the builder of the system and get a new one even off warrenty they will often ship the parts free if it is just a fan. I would run the lappy opened for a few seconds to see in the fan is running, DONOT think about putting one finger on the system when it is like this and don't move till you turn the system off cotton shirt and denem is a good thing to ware when doing this to reduce the static charge grab the power cable and hold it a second or two then turn the system off holding the cable, ot dispell static and the human body cannot feel static charges less then 3000 volts and at 30 you can kill parts in your computer... on some systems even less then 30 v will kill it. As far as the temp reader when you replace the fan on most laptops the reader is build into the fan so if it was the reader then that will be fixxed if the problem continues they I would E Bay the system for parts and start looking at new systems... As far as Intel build Laptops go get a Dell or a Toshiba if you want some real Power for you money gen and AMD Rig from Aser... I like their Farrie Line as they have evrything you will need in a laptop and they will handle some real crazy newer games... there is a few Asers that will handle HL2 and Doom3 not at max setting but it will run better then some towers that are playing the games... Just rember that with Dell you are doning to pay for the better inhouse tech support then you will if you buy som... Read more

Hey iv been looking at aftermarket CPU coolers because my case is pretty hot. I will be keeping fans in my system just to git rid of the remaining hot air in my case. So the basic question is which is better at COOLING a liquid system or fan system? Just kind of wondering, this is a little bit of a non serious question

Answer:Liquid cooling VS fan cooling

All things being equal, liquid cooling.  Also, cooling properties of various liquids are not the same.  It's the reason most car engines are liquid cooled.  However, the heat exchanger probably still needs a fan.

I've managed to upgrade some of my home PC's from Win 7 or Win 8 to Wn 10 without any significant problems, but I am having major difficulty upgrading one of my PC's.

It is running Win 7 Home 32-bit and when I originally ran the Windows 10 upgrade advisor, it indicated that I could not upgrade as my NVidia GEForce 6600 graphics card was incompatible with Windows 10.

I tried various workarounds, using suggestions on this and other sites, to upgrade with the GEForce card but none were successful. So I purchased and installed a new graphics card - an AMD Radeon R7 240, which should be Win 10 compatible.

I then re-ran the Win 10 upgrade advisor - it still said that I couldn't upgrade as the "GeForce 6600 card" was incompatible - even though it was no longer installed!

I checked the Device Manager and the graphics card was clearly showing as being the AMD card. I then explicitly uninstalled any NVidia drivers/software using the Control Panel/Program uninstall - still unable to upgrade to Win 10. I also ran the Wagnard tools "Display driver uninstaller" and removed any NVidia software/drivers - still unable to upgrade. I am using the latest drivers from the AMD website.

I also tried to upgrade using the Media Creation tool and a Win 7 image from DVD (previously this also failed to work and gave the incompatible graphics card error); this seemed to work up to a point, but after a reboot it wanted me to select a keyboard layout but neither my usb keyboard no... Hello,

I am currently wanting to begin the process of upgrading various parts of my computer in the upcoming months. The first item I would like to do upgrade is the RAM. I am currently using 8BG (4x2) and would like to double that. I was thinking of going with the Corsair Vengeance 2x8. Eventually I would like to have a pretty sick gaming computer. As of right now, it can handle a lot but can struggle from time to time if I crank up the graphic settings.

I guess the reason I am posting this is to ask a few questions. Would upgrading RAM be a good starting point if wanting to upgrade other hardware as well. I was thinking of also swapping out the video card, cpu, and adding some fans (when I get money that is). I must sound like a complete novice right now lol.. but, I am ready to finally go through with this because my computer is starting to feel like it is getting behind the times in terms of speed and performance haha. Anyway, any insight into this topic and or first time upgrading, specifically with the RAM, would be grrreat. Thanks.

Evening all,First of all I wish to add to my RAM. I currently have 64MB and wish to increase this to at least 256MB. I have made enquiries at various shops, PC World etc., and have been told that I MAY need PC100 or, I think I am correct, PC300. I have checked my manual and the only reference I can find to memory modules is the following: 168 pin, 3.3V Dimm Sockets with gold plated contacts unbuffered SDRam. I am now stumped as there is no mention of PC100 etc., I do not want to buy memory that is no good, neither do I want to screw up my machine. Any help on identifying the modules I want would be appreciated.Secondly my father has obtained from the local council a PC with Win 95 on it. They also through in a printer that is no use to him as this requires Win 98 as a minimum. The PC he came with has no boot disks, no start up disk on CDRom or anything. He has been given a CDRom, legitimate, of Win 98SE so that he can upgrade. When we try to do so we get the message that there is already an OS on the PC and that the upgrade disk is required. Hi,

I bought Windows 7 having come from Vista. However, there is a BIOS update for my system. The new BIOS update states: The BIOS updates the fan control algorithm of the system, and turns the fan on at low volume while your notebook PC is operational. If you are currently experiencing any symptoms on your notebook PC, please contact HP for support. It is located here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...340180&lang=en

I'd love to flash it but not sure if it will ruin my computer as it's more than likely not designed for flash when Windows 7 is on it or do you's know any better?

I also have 2 blue vertical lines going do the right hand side of the screen. I've seen loads of problems but no solutions. Has any fixed this HP problem?

Cheers folks!

Answer:Upgrading BIOS after Upgrading from Vista to 7

The BIOS is the stuff that happens BEFORE Windows starts to load.
Do you have issues with overheating or with the fan? If so, the BIOS update is for you.
Also, BIOS flashes are dangerous - and you can turn your computer into a paperweight by doing it incorrectly. In short, if it ain't broke - don't fix it!

The type of lines that you describe on your screen are usually caused by hardware issues. Send it in for repair if the system is under warranty. If not, then get an estimate from a local computer store - it may be cheaper to live with it.

Question: Advise please

Just upgraded my computer because of a hard drive failure. I lost everything. Starting over. What programs, other than winzip, would you recommend I download? I could only think of a few that I had from before: MediaPlayer, AdobeReader, winzip. Any other suggestions? Thanks for any input.

Answer:New Pc Please Advise

Just one suggestion is the case .. I have just recently bought a 'Tsunami Dream' (no psu) and am well impressed, maybe a little pricey but heck if you wanna case that really cools in the places it matters this is the one .. HD Fan with filter and some thought at long last of the side fan (with filter) blowing directly onto the CPU fan. and of course large exhaust fan at rear. Very roomy and an excellent finish all round. One complaint though, had to get tin snips out as Rom access was a wee bit tight

I own a sapphire radeon 4870 and keeping these details in mind could you tell me what i should get inorder to to be able to use Windows 7(64 bit) Ultimate?

and thank you for your time.

Answer:New Rig. Need advise

Hey Welcome aboard the Se7enforums! Pyronox

For the supply on any build that will depend mainly on the type of build and the hardwares as well as adding more drives and devices on that will be seen. That wpn't have any direct bearing on 7 for that matter since some are running 7 on old boats seeing less then 512mb of memory and likely a 300w supply if that just to see if 7 will run.

A good mid range build at this time would see a good start with a 500-700w supply for running stock as long as the amps on the 12v rails are adequate when running a higher end card with 4gb+ of memory being what most look at to start with when selecting the 64bit Windows.

With 5 hard drives in and running the 64bit 7 as the primary OS the present 700w supply is more then enough here with a mid range video card. That even includes the occasional boot from usb flash drives as well.

Question: Need some advise

Hi there, I am currently having problems with my computer. About a month ago it just stopped turning on the screen wouldnt come on with the exception a few times and it would just freeze. Then one day it just started to work again. A few days ago it stopped working again. Now all that happens when i turn the computer on is the monitor light blinks like the computer is on standby, I know that this would happen if it were a video card error but I have tested it with another card and it still did not come on. Has anyone had this happen to them before? and if so how would I go about starting to fix it.

Thanks

OK, I've got 5.0 and cannot go up because it's not there anymore... should I press on with IE6?

I am having very odd behavior when online. I have a cable modem and at times my PC just freezes... if I shut of the modem it takes about a minute and I'm back running again.

I've run Scandisk and Defrag as I just finished getting my PC back up and running after much trouble.

Is it me? Or is it a freak thing with IE5?

ALSO I've got my back up .wab from before the crash but it was from IE6 is that why it won't load on my PC now (because I'm running IE5)?

Question: Need some advise

I am using netscape and have finally gotten fed up with the way AOL is handling this company. They continually mess with the browser and do things to it and then take forever to get it working right again. Is there any other places I can get the services like netscape without the messing around.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

I just posted asking a mod to close this thread
I seemed to be somewhat clean after running MundoBeGone, but my system seemed very slow. I had HJT remove this entry
O20 - Winlogon Notify: igfxcui - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\igfxsrvc.dll
then read in another thread that it is a valid entry. However, it did seem to help my system, and I do not seem to have any problems from removing it.
I have just ran ActiveScan and it shows some things I am concerned with, that log below:

Question: Ram Advise

I currently have an Intel EE955 CPU...in a Asus PN5-e SLI mobo....with 4gigs of OCZ ram......What is the best ram for this combo? ....Thanx

Answer:Ram Advise

The memory standard for your mobo is ddr2 800.

In some mobos the memory standard is different depending on the cpu you are using, but that doesn't look to be the case in yours.

Something like this is probably going to be your best fit. For performance, you want to look for low CAS latency/timing numbers.

I'm not sure where exactly to post this query, so please feel free to move it to the correct section, but I'd be most grateful if someone can solve this (little) problem for me?

My son has just revamped my computer - an Acer with Windows 7 - as it was beginning to run slow and have small but annoying hiccups, so he spent some time reformatting and reloading all my data - so generally my system is running well again.

However, there is one small rather annoying feature - and he's tried to sort it out, but to no avail. When restarting/rebooting before, this process was executed in almost record time, but now it takes at LEAST 3 minutes - sometimes longer - the moment the screen comes up black with ACER, etc, across it, this is where the holdup occurs. The other day I timed it 4½ minutes before the black screen finally changed to green before continuing the restarting process and closing it.

Probably a stupid question - but then, I'm no expert, so this comes from a total ignoramus in this field - would all the approximately 140 updates required and executed, have anything to do with this? If so, can something be done, or will I just have to grin and bear it and wait for it to do its own thing?

Thanks in anticipation.

Answer:Please help/advise?

Explain the screen again. It is black with Acer info on it and stays that way for a couple of minutes and then what is on the green screen?

For reference the norm is a BIOS/Manufacturer's splash screen that usually lasts several seconds then a quick flash of a blank screen (1 sec.) and then a Windows is starting logo (10 sec.) then quick blank screen (1 sec.) then Windows welcome screen or desktop.

If the hold up is during the Acer screen that usually indicates the computer is trying to identify hardware. Does it do the same wit no USB devices attached?

Question: Need advise

Hi,
I'm currently using an Intel Pentium G2020 at 2.90GHz, my mainboard is MSI H61M-P31/W8
with 4G of DDR3 RAM (Single), I'm using the build-in graphic card with 2G memory (if i understand it correctly), on Windows 10 Home 64 bit
when i play Flash games on the internet my PC slows down significantly, if i don't close and reopen the browser when it's starting to slow down it can get to a point where the Flash Player crashes or the browser is non responsive.
My question is do i need a better graphic card so it wont happen, or if i add another 4G of DDR3 ram should do it? what is better if i have to choose between the two? or are there any other ideas ?
Thanks

My computer seems to function ok at times. Then for some unknown reason the computer freezes up, I am unable to open my email (yahoo), I am unable to locate the cursor, or the cursor seems to just hang. I believe I have too much crap downloaded but I am unsure what might be safe to delete. And I seem to constantly be going off-line. This might have something to do with my internet connection. I have attached my most recent hijack this log. Thank you once again for you time and effort!!!!!

Answer:Need Your Advise But Once Again

Download the trial version of Ewido Anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop. When the trial period expires it becomes freeware with reduced functions but still worth keeping.

Once you have downloaded Ewido Anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
Once the setup is complete you will need run Ewido and update the definition files.
On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine"
Under "Reports"
Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close Ewido Anti-spyware, Do NOT run a scan yet. We will do that later in safe mode.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode now. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while Ewido is scanning as it may interfere with the scanning process:
Launch Ewido Anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desk... Read more

Question: advise ?

Hi I just recently built my computer, and would like some advise as far as making go as fast as possible without overcloking (as I do not know how and do not have a good understanding yet as to what overclocking really, that will be my next project, but for now here it is)

AMD XP 2500+ barton
ECS L7S7A2 mobo
2x 512 ddr 400 geil golden dragon
80 gb wd hard drive
160 gb wd hard drive
sony dvd burner dru510a
dvd rom
cdrw
promise ultra 100 tx2
CHAINTECH nVIDIA GeForce FX5200 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 64-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP

I have a few questions:

1- someone told me I needed to update my bios, I checked and there is a newer version of it. If I do it will it improve my performance? I have looked into it and have asked how to do it (feel comfortable I can do it, although I been told that if i screw up it will fry my mobo? is this true?)

2- can I run my ram in "dual channel" with this motherboard, and if so how will it improve my performance (also, what slots do I need to put the ram in, if I can run it in dual mode? the manual does not specify, so I suspect that I cannot run in dual mode, but I am unusure)

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:advise ?

Here is your mobo. From what I see, it would make sence if it could run dual memory. It doesn't say it though, but I think it will.

Hi Everyone,Good day!I wish to upgrade my old computers' RAM from 128 to 512 and I would like know what type and how many pieces of RAM should I buy? Here are some info:Motherboard has 3 DIMMs.Pentium III 600 MHz processorWindows XP OSPlease let me know if you need to know more info.Thank you in advance.

Answer:RAM Advise

Welcome Aboard first off ! !If you travel to Crucial.com they have an online scanner that will tell you exactly what type of RAM that machine can use and how much of it can be installed...Write down the info and then shop around locally for the best price.Older RAM is sometimes harder to find so if Crucial's price looks decent i would get it there as they are one of the better quality RAM vendors.....

Question: Need advise...

My notebook was infected with some kind of virus that prevents double click access to my C: Drive and D: Drive. I search for solution over the internet and found a blog that suggested to use ComboFix to resolve this issue. Currently My operating system is Windows XP Pro SP3.Apparently this has something to do with the "autorun.inf" file in my C: and D: drives. After following the instructions for running ComboFix, the problem is fixed! However, I noticed that everytime i boot up my notebook, there's a text screen message prompted that let me select which mode to boot from i.e. 1st choice : Start Windows on "Windows System Restore" Mode or 2nd Choice : Start Windows on "Windows XP Professional" Mode. However, either of these choices are not an issue at all but I wonder how come this message appear right after I run the ComboFix. How could this be? Is this normal?Below here and attached are the ComboFix scan report for your advises. Is there anything else i should do now? Please Advise ASAP. Thank you very much!_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ComboFix 08-12-05.02 - lawrence 2008-12-06 12:21:20.1 - NTFSx86Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.1457 [GMT 8:00]Running from: c:\documents and settings\lawrence\Desktop\ComboFix.exeCommand switches used :: c:\documents and settings\lawrence\Desktop&... Answer:Need advise Please

If it where me, i would never put a watercooling setup in that system. On leak and everything could be fried.

Fist i would try, upgrading any stock cooling that you have. A really nice thermaltake HSF, and a powerful Vantec Tornado Fan would keep that processor cool.

Also there has been a lot of fuss over a cooler. VGA Silencer. Forgot the brand. It is susposed to drop temps well, and can be modded easly to drop the temps even further!

Also try and tidy up the case a little. Hide loose wires, get some round IDE cables, and remember, wire ties are your friend!

Also make sure you have 2 exhaust fans in the back of the case. That will draw out all the hot air. Also 2 fans in the front bringing in air would help alot too. Finily a good fan blowing on the video card from the side of the case would also help.

You will find these suggestions, cheeper then water cooling, and safer, from a components view.

If you must go water cooling. The kits are ok, but not the best. Even the top of the line kits..If you want a good system, make it from scratch.
