fail to load error message just after windows 8 starts up

Question: fail to load error message just after windows 8 starts up

The message ?Fail to load module C:\Users\Ron Wolpa\AppData\Local\Icdrsoft\hpboidps.DLL? pops up just after Win 8 starts up.
It started to happen after AVG anti virus cleaned a possible threaten.
I was about to remove from registry then , before doing stupid things , I made up my mind to post a message here ; it is located @ HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE > MICROSOFT > WINDOWS > CURRENT VERSION > RUN under the name ICDRSOFT and data : regsvr32.exe "C:\Users\Ron Wolpa\AppData\Local\Icdrsoft\hpboidps.DLL".
If deleting from registry is not the solution what else can be done ?
Thank you for your support.

Preferred Solution: fail to load error message just after windows 8 starts up

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: fail to load error message just after windows 8 starts up

It is possible that the threat was a false positive and warrants more investigation.
Select a system restore point prior to when the problem started.

Once in a while, I would try to load an application, for example, a Setup.exe file to install Nero, but the mouse loading icon would display for a second or two, and then go back to normal again without the application starting. No error message whatsoever.

When I check the task manager, I can see the process has started, but I can't actually access the application. What could be the problem?

BTW, I'm using Windows XP.

Answer:Some applications fail to load, but no error message displayed

This is happening to me as well, but with almost every single application.

Hello, I've recently been trying to download and install Windows Live Mail. That part was easy, however, upon opening the program, I receive error messages. The first one says, "Sorry, something unexpected happened and Windows Live Mail must close, your most recent changes may not be saved." Then another error box is displayed stating, "Contacts failed to load. Windows Live Mail is incorrectly configured, please re-install." I've uninstalled and reinstalled this program several times, but still not sure why I am receiving these errors. I did edit the registry, deleting the keys for all Windows Live folders insuring a complete uninstall, then reinstalled a fresh download of Windows Live Mail but STILL got the same error messages. I also tried to clear the Live Contacts Store/Cache by renaming the Live contacts folder so a new one would be replaced. Still nothing...This is getting frustrating...Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks!

Hey Guys,

Just recently I have being receiving error messages when I start up my laptop every day.
There has never been any problems with my laptop until now, although it doesn't really affect the laptop at all it still pops up?

I get an error message when I move to the desktop that says "BIOS Load Fail" but then i can close it and nothing happens to my computer. I am running Windows 8.1 and I just installed the new Toshiba Service Station Apps. I also checked to see if the BIOS was up to date, and it was.

Any help here? It would be much appreciated, thanks.

Just an update: I just tried to open up my GPU tweaking software, and it can't open because the Error Message shows up. But my CPU monitor still works.

> I get an error message when I move to the desktop that says "BIOS Load Fail" but then i can close it and nothing happens to my computer. I am running Windows 8.1 and I just installed the new Toshiba Service Station Apps

Could it be possible that this alert (message) is coming from the Service Station utility?

The service station software allows your computer to automatically search for TOSHIBA software updates or other alerts from toshiba that are specific to your computer system and its programs. When enabled, this application periodically transmits to our servers a limited amount of system information required to perform these updates or alerts.

Probably the message ?BIOS load fail? means that service station was not able to download (load) the information about the latest available BIOS.
From my point of few this is not a serious problem. If you want try to uninstall the service station tool from the system just to check if this would cancel the notification

Okay, My Toshiba laptop has suddenly refused to work and will not start up. When it loads past the initial toshiba loading screen, a black screen appears saying "Checking media [fail]" I've tried everything that I have seen online that does not include opening up my laptop. It does not let me acess the Bios and I have tried every combination available.

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C855-1TD and runs on windows 8.1 software.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Answer:Satellite C855-1TD starts with message "Checking media [Fail]"

Usually you should be able to access the BIOS pressing the F2 button while booting up the unit.
I cannot say for sure but it looks to me like serious hardware malfunction if you are not able to access the BIOS.
Such serious hardware problem might be related to motherboard problems as well as RAM modules.

In case you are able to access the BIOS, check if the HDD is still visible on the first BIOS page.
If HDD isn?t visible, then the notebook cannot find a proper bootable device and therefore the error Checking media fail appears.

I have been getting this new error message for the past week or two now and I dont know what it means. It says "Windows Cannot Find C:\Windows\17PHolmes1749.exe." But it doesnt seem to cause any harm, its just annoying to me when Windows starts that this keeps happening. Can somebody help me? I've run a complete Virus scan with Norton and a complete scan with Superantispyware, but still nothing bad is found. If somebody could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Answer:Error Message After Windows Starts

Hello Kyle, Welcome to TSF!

This C:\Windows\17PHolmes1749.exe file is rather sinister, and needs attention.

Please read this article? "Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? - First Steps"; follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum.
(Simply, click on the coloured links to be re-directed.)

Please ensure that you create a new thread in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum; not back here in this one.

When carrying out The 5 Steps, if you cannot complete any of them for whatever reason, just continue on with the next one until they are all completed.
However,it is extremely important to make mention of the fact that you could not complete any of the steps in your post to The HJT Help Forum; where an Analyst will assist you with other workarounds.

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.

Good Luck with it.

Ran Windows Update on wife's computer today (Biostar A75-MH mobo, AMD A8-3850, 8Gb DDR3-1600, 64Gb Samsung 830 SSD boot drive, Win7 x64) and upon restart it froze at 35% installing the updates. After it did nothing for 30 min I rebooted. It boots to the desktop but with an error box saying failed to load sortbls.nlp. Explorer isn't working, can run any programs, Start menu won't come up, just sits with the blue circle spinning. Tried to run system restore but the 11-15 one disappeared from the list when I tried to run it and now just shows the only restore point as Windows Update Critical Update from today which fails. Startup Repair says no problems.

Any suggestions?

Answer:fail to load sortbls.nlp error after Windows Update froze

My PC suddenly restarted in the middle of work yesterday. When windows restarts I immediately get this screen and I cannot do anything besides restarting. The screen is virtually frozen and all I can do is restart

I thought it was a virus- reformatted my computer and reinstalled windows 10. After reinstalling Windows this didn't happen for a couple of hours before returning again. I did not connect my PC to any external hard drive or USB barring the Windows 10 bootable USB in the meanwhile. What would be my subsequent option? Thanks

I just started a new malwarebytes scan. After I ran it earlier, I removed all the threats and was trying to update off of microsoft to the new IE8, but got the blue screen of death when it rebooted after downloading. I can not boot up in safe mode, I can only boot when I select Last Known Good Config. Then, when I booted up, I got an error message saying that the computer would shut down in 60 seconds, but it never did. and there was some rundll error message too. I think its because wscntfy.exe running because when I shut it down in taskmgr, it just restarts itself. I am able to turn it off Administrative Tools>Services under the Security Center, but it turns back on when I reboot. I had some Advanced Virus Remover Scam pop up on my computer the other day, and either I got rid of that but it branched off, or it's still on here being a pest. I have ran SuperAnitSpyware, Spybot, and Advanced SystemCare and haven't really come up with anything. If anyone is familiar with this issue and might be able to diagnose it, PLEASE help. I have a PIM that my wife and I have used for many years. It's a small shareware program called Namebase. I went to open the program yesterday and got this error message, "Unrecognized database format Namebase.mdb. Error number:3343." The program won't load after that. Windows search says, "Error Number 3343 Unrecognized database format 'databasename.mdb'. Cause, This is typically when the Jet database engine was improperly shut down during the process of writing to disk."
I have a backup dated end of April 06. I loaded the program on another computer. This old backup works fine but when I load the ?corrupted .mdb file I get the same error message. Unfortunately, the backup is 4 months old.

Is there a way of correcting this corrupted database file?

Program is a Windows program. Computer fairly new and O/S is WinXP pro.

Hope I'm in the right place for this.
I've had Win 10 now for about a week and I've had some glitches but I've found solutions to them. However, for the past 3 days I'm getting an error message when Win 10 starts about my Recycle Bin on my external hard drive, which is a MyBook by WD, 3tb USB 3.0. I've been getting a message that "The Recycle Bin on J:\ is corrupted. Do you want to empty the Recycle Bin for this drive?". With your MyBook plugged in, right click on the recycle bin on your desktop and click on properties. You will see the recycle bins and "Space Available" for each drive including your MyBook. Try changing the space available or alternatively the settings for that particular selection.

It's a brand new Satellite A660-1c3 bought and opened today.

Answer:Re: Recovery DVD tool starts with error message

This happen if the recovery image is removed or deleted.
When you buy new notebook model and start it for the first time preinstalled image must be installed first.

So if you are able to use preinstalled operating system that means you got notebook with recovery image on it. I don?t know what have you done but fact is that partitions structure or saved data is changed.
Have you changed something in disc management tool (expand partitions, changing partitions capacity)?

Answer:Satellite Pro L series starts with error message

You could try to repair the system.
Power up the unit and press F8,
Now you will see the Advanced boot options:
Here you can choose the option: Last known good configuration

If this option does not help your, reboot the unit and press F8 again.
Then choose first option: ?repair my computer?
Here you can choose between different options.
You can allow Win 7 to scan for problems and to fix it automatically or you will use the Toshiba HDD recovery option to restore the whole system.

"Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (weather) isn't associated with any program."

I can click OK, or the x-box, or hit escape, as many times as I want, but the dialog box won't close. I have to open Task Manager and end task. But Task Manager doesn't say it's not respoding. Sometimes it just closes it, and other times it tells me Firefox is waiting for a response from me.

I've re-downloaded and reinstalled the program, but it doesn't help.

Answer:Solved: Firefox starts with error message that I can't close

whenever i tried to boot my Satellite PRO L450d-12x it shows me,
STATUS : 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occured.

Does any one have idea how to resolve it?
I will appreciate help so much.

Answer:My Satellite Pro L450D starts with 0xc00000e9 error message

Can you please tell us what happen exactly when you start your notebook?

There is obviously some problem in communicatin between hardware connected to the mainboard. It can be HDD. Of course it is not easy to say what the exact problem is.

If there is no problem for you to install OS again I recommend you to set BIOS to default settings and install original OS that you got with your notebook. This is easiest and best method to check hardware functionality with ?factory settings?.

If this will not help I presume there is some serious hardware problem.

Hi all,
I'm in urgent need of help. My problem is this:
My PC was infected with several viruses, i updated my antivirus and scanned, then removed all the viruses. I had to repair my OS (win XP SP2) after that; i repaired it with a genuine MS Win XP SP2 cd. The PC is functioning well now, but everytime it starts up, i get an error message saying "the registration wizard cannot run because the system information it requires is either unavailable or incorrect". I tried registering it online but after i fill in all my details the wizard tells me that i was "unable to register this time", the only option is to click finish. No other programs are affected by this, as far as i can tell.
Can you please tell me what are the likely causes of this (so i can prevent it happening in the future) and give me a solution?
I would also like to know how my system is being affected by this issue or is it safe to igonore it?
Any help is welcome.
Thank you in advance for your time.

I have a Mustek 600 III EP Plus parallel port scanner that I am trying to install to a Dell Optiplex GX260. The scanner was working fine on my "old" computer. I have researched and read several suggestions; none of which helped. I have checked and ECP mode is enabled. When I try to use it, I get the message " fail load". When I go to scanners and cameras, it does not appear there. It shows no scanner at all. I have reinstalled it 3 times. I hope some one has the solution to this. I also downloaded a new driver.

Answer:Scanner message "fail load"

What OS are you running? Have you got the right drivers for that OS? Is it the same OS as on the old computer? In particular, have you moved from Windows 98/ME to Windows 2000/XP/Vista? parallel port scanners are pretty old nowadays, I had an Agfa one about 7 years ago, it never worked properly with XP, kept vanishing. I think you may have to bite the bullet and get a modern scanner. That Mustek was a new model some time around 1996!

Hello, I apologizie for my English, I know it's not the best...

I did a very stupit error, and now I can not use my new Satellite U940 -103.
I updated the BIOS, from version 1.2 to version 1.3.

Unfortunately I did not do any recovery support (I'm stupid, yes!).
When I turn on the ultrabook, it say:
"Your PC need to be repaired"
error 0x0000001
Does anybody know what I can do, please?

Answer:Satellite U940 starts with error message after BIOS update

Hmm? do you see a Toshiba Splash screen while booting?
Are you abele to access the BIOS?

If not, I guess something went wrong during the update and you will need to ask service in your country for fix.

When I turn on my P200 PSPB6A I get 2 beepsand the following message:

System configuration data updated
Error Resource Conflict - PCI on motherboard BUS:07, Device:00, Function:00
Press F1 to resume, F2 to setup

Pressing F1 gets me into Vista and if I look into device manager it appears that the graphics card has not been recognised and standard microsoft vga drivers have been loaded. I have tried downloading the correct drivers from the Toshiba website and these stall at the catalyst install manager stage, I presume because it cannot see the graphics card. I have even tried a complete reinstall from the backup partition but to no avail. Any suggestions greatly appreciated otherwise it looks as though it will have to go in for service.

I have recently bought a Satellite A210-183 with an AMD Turion 64X2 processor , ATI X1200 Graphics card , 2 GB memory , 1,3 build in webcam and may other features.

After 1 day use and as I had tried all features and worked normally , when I tried to open my webcam , I had the message " GRAPH RENDER FAIL "..

Certainly the shop changes the labtop with a new one. When I started again to install some of my programs on the labtop such as ( msn & yahoo messenger , Nero , office , Sony ericsson Pc Suite and 1-2 other programs and as I had already tried to use the webcam and worked normally ) after some restarting I receive the same message when I try to open the webcam...." GRAPH RENDER FAIL "

Do everyone knows the reason why I received this message and I cannot open the webcam??I get on crazy and I do not think that the problem comes from the labtop.Maybe something else such as a operation program ....

Please someone with something similar helps me .

I installed Windows 98SE on a PC with AMDK6II processor, SIS SY5SSM Motherboard and 96MB of RAM. This was a clean install from a formatted 6GB harddisk. I previously had Windows 95B loaded. The PC ran smoothly for a while and then had problems shutting down which I thought might have been caused by Anti-virus software. When I chose shut down from the start menu it would sometimes hang. I uninstalled the Norton Anti Virus software and installed AVG 6.0 instead. After I did this the PC shut down normally. In January I installed a Philips CD burner with Nero software version The PC did not have any difficulties starting or shutting down for about a week and then after a week on start-up it would hang. I have never received any error messages. When this happens I have to press the re-set button and start the PC in safe mode. From safe mode I shut the PC down, wait approx 30secs and then re-start the PC. Most of the time Windows will load.I am not sure whether this is a harddisk problem or is a Windows issue. I anyone out there has encountered similar problems I would like to hear from you.

Answer:Windows starts to load but then stops.

I have had similar problems in the past but cannot remember exactly what the cause was, other than to say that Windows was trying to load something that no longer existed on the system (I think it had something to do with an LS120 drive accelerator program). I used the step-by-step loading facility to load windows one step at a time until it stopped, at which point I could see what it was trying to load and set about curing the problem (I think I had to reload the device software and then uninstal it again to get rid of the unwanted residues from the first uninstal). As your PC is starting up, just after the BIOS has loaded, press the F8 key to interrupt the windows loading process (if it doesn't work you've pressed too late - experiment until you get it). You should get a dialogue box come up offering a choice of 4 loading options - normal, safe mode, step-by-step, or dos only. Select step-by-step and press enter. Windows will load one step at a time, waiting each time for you to confirm each step by pressing the Y key. If you find a problem, something that tries to load but won't proceed, repeat the whole process again but when you come to that step press the N key to by-pass the loading of that item and see if windows boots normally. I can't tell you what to do to correct any problem you find, but at least you'll be on the right track. Of course, it could be something completely different, but it's worth a try! Good luck. LC.

Hello all,
I have a bit of an issue going on with my desktop.
It is running a Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3SH, 8 gigs DDR3, i5 3570k (no over clock currently), Windows 7 Ultimate, a 1 TB HDD and a 650 Watt PSU.

Here is the story: I built the computer, and only thing I carried over was the case and the psu. The computer was running fine with the new build, everything was fast and no issues. Then I started getting random BSOD's (I don't remember the error codes). Next, windows updates were not installing.
I did a clean install with a new HDD. Blue screens seemed to have gone away and was still trying to figure out the update issue.

Jump to today: I left my computer on for a while, it was downloading SP1 from updates. I returned home, and my computer had been restarted (BSOD I assume). My computer was trying to check my C drive for issues. Only where it says "press any key in the next X second(s)," it was frozen at one second. I manually restarted the computer and started to load windows. Right when the boot screen starts to come up the computer BSODs. I can't get into windows, and the screen is up and gone so quickly I cannot ready any of the numbers or anything. I can only tell that it's blue.

I ran memtest when I first starting having issues and it was fine. Should I run it again?

I have now disassembled the computer, and the MoBo is sitting on a cardboard box with the CPU and 1 ram stick in. I had taken all the pieces and parts out that I thought might have come lose o... Read more

Try to restore your computer before the updates were downloaded using system restore. You can then download them again.

I'm a Windows Xp user.

When I first on my computer, Windows fail to load and then it reboots and the black screen asking me to load in safe mode, last good config, load windows normally will appear.

I have tried every option but my computer will just reboot and bring me back to the black screen with the same options. Sometimes, after selecting one of the options, my computer will freeze and i will have to manually reboot my computer.

I have to repeat this process for many times trying different options before I can start windows successfully.

I have tried to unplug all my usb ports connecting to printer/scanner.. Reinstall windows for 2 times.

This seems to happen each day, for the very first time I on my computer and since my computer is out of warranty, I want to try to 'fix' it my self if possible before I call in the techs.

Hi -

I'm a beginner so bear with me please. I have a Sony Vaio Desktop which is probably 4 or 5 years old. It has Win XP. Last night I tried to do something I wasn't capable of - I went into the registry and I crashed the computer. I lost everything. This morning. I loaded my back up system disks and application disks. No problem. Then I started loading my own software and a few off the web like WordPerfect, Mozilla Firefox, AVG, etc. The last thing that I loaded was AVG anti-virus and I swear that before the computer went blank AVG said something about detecting a virus. Now the machine can't be loaded. It loads the first couple of screens that say Sony and then Microsoft XP (it gives the beep) and then the computer and monitor shut down. About 30 seconds later they power up and start the process of trying to sign on again. If it's a virus then I can't get on the computer to do anything about it. I tried to get in safe mode with no luck but I really don't know what I'm doing there. I have a call in for my computer expert friend, but he's no where to be found. I know the answer may require some complicated manuevers.

Any help that you can suggest is greatly appreciated. I use the computer for personal use and for volunteer work that I do. I really wish I had the bucks to just by a new one. Best Buy's interest is just too high.

Thank you

I have been having this issue for months now and i'm sick and tired with it..
Whenever I try to start the setting utility, i get the following message: Please install Toshiba System Driver First.

I have all the drivers and they are all up to date. I'm using Windows 8 on my Toshiba Satellite L850-1kt. I also tried this on Windows 8.1 and it has the same issue. Also it is impossible to uninstall The system settings utility, this gives me the following message: The Setup was intterupted.

Answer:Re: Satellite L850 - Toshiba system settings utlity starts with error message

Wait a moment. According notebook specification your notebook was offered with preinstalled Win8 64bit. When you use it with ?factory settings? everything should be OK.
> I'm using Windows 8 on my Toshiba Satellite L850-1kt.
Do you use original Win8 that you got with your notebook or your own version? Original version is tested and must work properly. Have you changed anything or removed from the system?

If possible reinstall original OS version (recovery image) and I?m sure everything will be OK.

I've spent hours trying to install the Microsoft Home Use Program on my personal notebook PC at home with no success. My workplace enables me to purchase a licensed copy at a cheaper rate to put on my home computer, whilst I remain employed by them.

I click on the link to
Select the country "Australia".
Enter my corporate email address.
I enter the program code that work gave me.
I check my work email account and receive the email successfully.
I open the email which says "congratulations, you are eligible to purchase the home use program for $28".
I click on the green "Buy Now" button.

Then, this is where it all goes wrong.... Instead of taking me to the screen that allows me to purchase my license/product key and download the software to my PC, the screen reverts back to the previous one which asks me for my corporate email address and program code! I am going around in circles! There are no error messages.

I have tried turning off the antivirus program and I have tried cleaning and fixing my drives. I have a brand new ASUS notebook PC model PRO50G with stickers on it saying windows vista and intel pentium.

Can anyone please help me to install the home use program??! Thanks:)

Downloaded XPMODE and 2 updates 1-Windows6.1-KB958559 and 2- Windows6.1-KB977206, these components were downloaded June 14, 2010

I installed WIN XP MODE... the XPMODE starts and after setup starts it crashes

“App version 6.1.7”
Laptop Configuration:

Since FIRST CRASH I have done the following updates
• I have updated the Bios from Dell E6410
• I have change the hard drive mode in the Bios to ATA instead of Raid on
• Reinstalled Windows 7

Still the same the VM starts to load and crashes. The error message... VMWindows.exe crashed. I have searched Google cannot find anything that will help.

I changed the hard drive mode to ATA in the bios; I was thought that VM could not communicate with the hard drive in Raid on mode.

Any suggestions will be appreciated

Hey guys,
I have a computer which I built 3 months ago. Everything was going fine, then I started to get some blue screens and heard some weird noises coming from my main HDD. I replaced the HDD and reinstalled windows. Everything from there on out has gone down hill.

I was having trouble with windows updates, firefox kept crashing randomly, games wouldn't install or would crash (not BSOD) when playing them.

Now, when I turn on my computer, after my MoBo screen comes up, and the windows 7 animation begins, my computer quickly blue screens. So fast that I cannot read the error code or anything. I can't get into the event viewer becuase I cannot get into Windows.

When I first started having problems, I ran mem test for a few hours without any issue. I have tried only using 1 stick of ram, and have tried all the slots. I still BSoD. I tried a different PSU, just booting up the MoBo and main drive; another BSoD.

? OS Windows 7 x64? Purchased from Microcenter ? Under 3 months. Case (not that it matters) and PSU are about a year and 1/2 old. ? I have reinstalled OS multiple times, doing a clean disk each time. ? CPU: I5 3570k ? Video card: GTX 560 ? Mother Board: Gigabyte Z77-D3SH ? Power Supply : 650, Corsair ? System Manufacturer: Me ? windows updates will not load - when I try to load non-critical updates they seem to be copied to the machine but the update fails when it comes to updating the system.

Answer:Windows non-critical updates fail to load

Did ALL the updates you just tried to install fail to install, or only some of them ?If it was ALL of them, have you run a Repair installation of Windows procedure, and it was only after you did that the updates will not install ?(As in, you booted the computer from the XP CD, chose to run Setup, then chose "Repair your existing Windows installation" or similar, and Setup completed successfully.).......In any case, if it was ALL of the updates that failed to install, then you probably need to repair Registry entries for Windows Update related files....It would be a good idea to print the following text.E.g. Select the following text, RIGHT click on the highlighted area, select Copy, open Notepad, place your blinking cursor on it, RIGHT click , select Paste. In Notepad's top bar - File - Print.Or use Wordpad for a better display of the longer lines - Notepad can mess that up. Click Start, select Run and type the following:cmd (click OK or press Enter) net.exe stop wuauserv (press Enter)(stops the Windows Update service) regsvr32 wuapi.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wuaueng.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wucltui.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wups.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wups2.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wuweb.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 MSXML3.dll (press Enter) net.exe start wuauserv (press Enter) (starts the Windows Update service) Close the black Window.Restart the computer.Windows Update should then work fineYou can save yours... Last week I got my new laptop, which I imidiately upgraded to windows10.

My problem is that some (a lot) websites will not load. On my old machine the sites loads fine, and I can even ping them on my new machine, but the will not load in my browser (I have tried both Mozilla and Edge), but instead end up with 'the connection as timed out' after a few minutes (they load instantly on my old laptop).
Some websites can easily be opened but time out, when I try to login with my userid.

Since my computer is brand new (an Alienware 17) I don't know if the computer or the software is responsible, but my guess is that it's an obscure security setting somewere, eventhough, I have tried everything I can find on the net.

Have other users experienced a similar problem, and does anybody have a solution for the problem?

I started my computer in safe mode. I selected Administrator as the user and as it was loading the desktop, I decided I should have signed on with the user we usually use (not Administrator), so I did Alt-Ctl-Del and shutdown.

Now, after I select either user, the desktop starts to load - I see the background - but before the icons or anything, it logs off and saves settings and goes back to the screen with the users to select for logon.

Save mode does the same thing.

I have restarted, shut down more than once with the same results.

I hope somebody can help me. I really don't want to reload windows.

I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but it has a virus that is variations of MS antispyware2009 - got it cleaned up some, but was still getting boxes popping up - usually not when I first booted up, logged on - before I messed up the sign on process.

Thx, Cynda

basically all my icons, besides folders, iso's, and zips, both on my desktop and start/programs menu are failing to load the picture, even things like my computer, only the recycling bin is normal.

i'm not sure if this problem is having an effect on performance but i feel like it might be slightly.

any help would be appreciated.

hey, so for no reason as far as i can tell i started having this problem today. my computer was working fine for awhile this morning, but then a bit later when i tried to open firefox the computer froze for no reason. kinda wierd since that has never happened before so i restarted it.

now what happens is it displays an error that says "floppy disk(s) fail (40)" and i have to press F1 to continue. i don't know why it would do this since my computer doesn't have a floppy disk drive.

then when it gets to the screen that shows the windows XP logo and the loading bar at the bottom (the screen before your desktop loads), it works for a few seconds normally. then the little loading bar at the bottom slows down a whole lot and goes really slow... and just stays like that. the computer won't load past that point, it just stays on that screen, with the xp logo and bar going really slowly!

so, has anyone seen this problem before? what should i do? i don't really feel like reformatting again.

i'm running windows xp home edition by the way

Answer:floppy disk fail and windows won't load past windows logo screen

ok have pc with Asus MOB D33005 with a Mator ATA Model-6L100mo 100GB SATA 150 HDD. Which is running Win xp. Can't tell if home or Pro version. Anyway It boots up checks everything starts to load win xp kinda flickers and goes back to the beginning. Screen where you see America Maggatrends. And I have the options to load safe, etc..Tried them all and keeps going back to the beginning. I think its the bootloader.ini that is the problem. What do you think?

Thanks in advance,

Answer:pc boots starts to load windows then blue screen for 2 secs

It is not the boot.ini file. If it were you wouldn't even get the Windows splash screen. If you google XP boot loop you will find a zillion hits but I have never seen a clear resolution to the problem. Do you have an XP installation disc available? This non destructive rebuild is the most likely for success from what I have read.

Edit: You say it blue screens. From the list of Safe Mode options, you can try Disable Restart on Error to see if it will let you read the blue screen.

Hi, I have this problem where I am trying to go into my documents and into a folder that has many files in it. Sadly when it tries to load a box comes up saying that "windows explorer does not respond."
It shuts down, my tool bar disappears and then loads right back up.
I have tried system restore points, still nothing.
A Few times of just shutting down.
Deleted files, re-downloaded files.
It started today for no reason, no files have been downloaded or any programs.

I would love to know what I could do about this. :c
I have Windows Vista Home Premium.
Thank you, and hopefully I get a answer!

Answer:Windows explorer doesn't respond, Documents fail to load

1.Run cmd.exe with elevated previlliges (right click on cmd.exe as admin) and type:

sfc /scannow

2.If point 1 not help open event viewer (Start>>Search>>eventvwr.msc) go to Application section find errors relate to explorer.exe and post here full version of error messages.

My PC failed, just like last Sunday. I left open the PC, when I come back, a bl;ack screen with the message that Windows to load, maybe caused by a software update

Instal the Window repair disk and reload....

Since , I was not in front of the PC, I can't know what could cause that.

Edit: I review the events observer. I see an error
"Kernel Power" 41
How could I know the kind of problem that cause WIndows to fail

Anyway to read the chain of events that lead to the problem

Is there a way to find witch software, if there is one, that had tried to execute an update?

Any help trully appreciated

Answer:Windows fail to load after update?? ( same problem occured last Sunday

Usually that indicates a power supply issue. It most likely is not windows, and your power supply is failing.

I was suckered into the free windows 10 upgrade for my laptop. It failed utterly and have paid my local IT shop for the upgrade to be wiped and windows 7 re-loaded. (They advised don't try to upgrade again)

I have two e-mail accounts. Both worked perfectly before the failed upgrade. After the re-load - one works perfectly. The other will receive but not send. The error message is:-

Server error: 554
Server response: 554 smtp service not available
Windows Live Mail error ID: 0x800CCC6F
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 465
Secure (SSL) Yes

After lengthy emails with website/e-mail provider the settings for incoming and outgoing are all correct but still won't send. We changed passwords, port settings, made unsecure etc

Back to my local IT shop. On their wifi it sends and receives no problem. Back home, try to send and it still fails.

ISP is Virgin Media. 30 min conversation with their tech man. He can't solve and says the problem is not at their end. It seems to me though that it probably is.

It's been going on now for 5 weeks. It's my business e-mail I can't send on I'm pretty fed up with the amount of wasted time/cost etc. Biggest mistake I made was to accept the free upgrade!

Anyone else had this and resolved the challenge?

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently working through the recommended reading and doing as it says by downloading and using all the scans recommended. Well after I have completed everything I am still getting this odd message when i start windows up. A message pops up asking for the updates to take effect that i need to restart the computer. I did this a while back and nothing happened and now notice it happens each time i boot up windows. I believe it is some form of malware, but after running all recommended reading and stuff and doing what it says to do this still remains.

I dont think it is a legit message and a icon of a dialog box appears next to it. Any help with this would be great. please let me know if I need to include anything.

Hi guys,

My freind has a dell computer with windows XP, which was running very slow. I carried out some maintenance i.e. uninstalled some unnecessary programs. I also ran 'msconfig' and unchecked some programs under the startup tab. Now when the computer starts, I am getting a very strange message to the effect of:-

'cannot load ■■■■■■■ '

Thats right a bunch of squares or ascii characters. I clicked 'o'k and got a similar message another three times. The computer is working but obviously not too pleased with the error message.

Any ideas about this ? Many thanks.

I'm trying to load WIN XP onto a new clean hard drive (40G).

I have an IBM VetVista P4, 1.6 G.

I"m using a new recovery cd I got directly from IBM for my NetVista model.

It begins to load the files and an error message come up on a blue screen that says "The file adpu160m.sys is corrupt. Press any key to continue"

When I press any key it come up wtih the same message.

Appreciate your help; of course I'm sending this note from another PC.

Answer:Cannot load WIN XP, Error message

I'm not sure you can install it on a new hd from recovery disc. The recovery disc is linked to a 'hidden' partition on original hd which, when instigated, will revert to factory settings.

I believe we may have had a power surge during some storms (even though I have a surge protector - it's cheap) and now my son's computer turns on, starts to warm up, the screen displays the windows logo, then it pops off. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do to fix it! Thanks.

Answer:My Computer Boots Up Then Shuts Down - It Starts To Load Windows Xp Then Pops Back Off - Help

A surge suppressor will only protect what you have plugged into it. In particular, if you don't have a surge suppressor on your internet connection a surge can enter that way and fry your components (I've lost several components when lightning has struck our cable connection and surged into my systems). Now I have a surge suppressor on the cable where it enters the house (along with the phone line) - and additional surge suppressors to protect the network cables throughout the house (and at my wife's office).Do you have a Windows installation CD that you can boot from? If so, try using the Recovery Console to repair the installation (here's a link to a how-to: )In particular, try these 3 commands (pressing Enter after each one, and answering Y (for yes) when asked if you're sure you want to do it):FIXMBRFIXBOOTCHKDSK /RIf that still won't get you into Windows, then download a bootable diagnostic utility from the manufacturer of your hard drive (the more common one's are listed here: )You'll need an ISO burner to burn the file to disk and ensure that it's bootable - here's a free one that I recommend:

I've encountered an array of problems. To start, when I try to play an .avi file, real player and windows media player both encounter a fatal error. Thinking there may have been a windows update I went to to get updates. I was able to download all of the updates, but I could not install any of them. I tried to install them via express and custom updates on the website, via automatic updates, and virtually every other method I could think of. After researching the problem I came across similar problems with an array of solutions, including trying in safe mode, running sfc /scannow, uninstalling and reinstalling .net, shutting off and turning back on both automatic updates and cryptographic services, changing .dll files (lccwiz & pidgen), renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder, downloading one update at a time, and other things that I can't even begin to think of at this moment, obviously with no success, as well as running SpyBot, AdAware, and Norton. Below are some of the links that I came across to help with this problem:

I have just upgraded my friends computer from win 98 to win 98 SE. All is going reasonably well but I can't seem to get past an error to reload her Hp psc 750 all in one (printer, scanner, copier I think!LOL) When I try to load the software an error message comes up that says "Error cannot find HPolngo7.dll" At this point the install aborts. Any ideas on what I can do or where I can go to get the missing dll?
One other question I have. Think I have the answer to it after much time searching on the internet today but just want to double check with you all. When the computer is started up we get an error message that says"RUNDLL cannot find the file Loading C:\progra~newdot~newdot~2 DLL. So far what I have found says it is spyware. Is that right?
Thanks very much for your help.
Dorothy E

Answer:Error message when trying to load a printer

1) Newdot~2 is spyware. Get a copy of Spybot and scan your system.

2) Don't use the install cd that came with the printer. Go to HP's website and grab the latest copy of the drivers.

*Note* The driver file is approximately 50MB so if you are not on broadband either order the Cd or be prepared for a long wait =:0

Also, HP's can be picky. Follow the instructions exactly.
If that doesn't help post back.

I was asked to look at a computer. It is over a year old. The girl claims she was messing with her computer (not sure what that means) but she claims she was prompted to put in the Cd that came with her e-machine. Apparently, earlier in the week, she had her cd-rom drive opened and the dog hit it by accident. Her complaint was the cd-rom door wouldn't open. I took off the side and the front panel. Pressed the start button. A screen came up and said about scanning the system for errors and that it would repair them and not effect the files. Ok, I did that. Then I got a black screen with the following message:
! ! Qcx0000034 ! ! 251/69108 (_0000000000000000.cdf-ms)

What's amazing is that the door opened without a problem for me. So there was nothing wrong with the cdrom door. Now this is the first time I've really had to deal with Vista because I've heard too many bad things about it. So does anyone out there have any idea what this code means?
The computer is over a year old and it is out of warranty or else I would have told them to call the manufacturer.
