Need to delete content in unreachable folder

Question: Need to delete content in unreachable folder

Hi,

I was trying to recover some lost files with recovery software, I came across something unpleasant - my partitions contain 'Found' folder that contains 'Found.NNNN' N for numbers, folders that contain files previously deleted with their filenames also remaining. I want these files cleared, the thing is, unlike $RECYCLE.BIN that can be accessed if you unhide system folders and such, these folders do not exist and yet recovery software finds them.

Can you tell me what application can erase these folders and files so that they do not appear under the recovery software? Eraser does not detect the folder as existent. It is something like ROOT\Folder\ but I don't know which erasing program can find and delete the whole folder.

Preferred Solution: Need to delete content in unreachable folder

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Need to delete content in unreachable folder

These things are usually made by CHKDSK.

If you have a lot of them, I'd suspect a failing hard drive.

Looking to delete content of a folder but want to keep the folder. I have to do this often for a flight simulator program. I cannot simply overwrite to files in to folder. So, I just would just like to do something like right click and empty the folder content but keep the folder. I googled and see how to go into my registry ,but wish not to do it that way. Is there software. Thanks..as usual.

Answer:Delete Folder Content Software

You could likely write a batch file to do that.

You do have to 'Take Ownership' of the folder, I know that but I've never seen anything in mine so, beyond that, I'm not sure.

Hi

I have a batch file which should delete everything under specified folder. the batch file ask the user to specified the folder which then be stored against %vmpath% variable. The following script is deleting every thing including the specified folder but i do not want to delete the specified folder. Sorry i am very new to batch scripting, require some help please.

IF Exist "%vmpath%\EMS96.exe" RD /S "%vmpath%\*"

thank you

Answer:Delete Folder Content with Batch file

Easiest to just recreate the folder after deleting it:

Code:
If Exist "%vmpath%" RD /S /Q "%vmpath%"
MD "%vmpath%
You don't need to specify a file name, unless you only want to delete the tree if that file exists.

If the parent folder can't be deleted and then recreated, you need a For loop to get the subfolder names.

Code:
PushD "%vmpath%"
Del /Q /F *.*
For /F "Tokens=1 Delims=" %%I In ('Dir /AD /B') Do RD /Q /S "%%I"
PopD

I've added a bit more in the following. This first switches to the folder specified on line 2, so the path entered must be relative to that folder. This is to prevent someone from typing C:\Windows and deleting the entire Windows tree. Do Not use C:\, or they can type Windows and delete the Windows tree.
If this will be used by multiple users, and the folders to be deleted are in there profile, you can use the %Userprofile% variable so it will be specific to the current user.

Code:
@Echo Off
PushD C:\Test Dir1
:_Ask
Set /P vmpath=Please enter the Parent Folder name relative to %CD%:
If /I "%vmpath%"=="exit" PopD&Goto :EOF
If NOT EXIST "%CD%\%vmpath%" Echo Unable to locate "%CD%\%vmpath%". Please check spelling.&Goto _Ask
:_YN
Echo All Files and folders contained in %CD%\%vmpath% Will be Deleted!
Set /P _Confirm=Are you sure? (Y/N):
If /I "%_Confirm%"=="N" Goto :_Ask
If /I NOT "%_Confirm%"=="Y" E... Read more

I'm running windows xp SP1 and in
C:\Documents and Settings\%Your Username%\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files \ Content.IE5
I have 4 folders I can't delete. I get the message 'cannot find the specified file'. These all look like ebay items.
Is there some way to get rid of these? I've installed a new virus scan from my ISP and it won't work properly because of this. I don't have a virus as I previously used Norton and these files didn't affect it.
Any help would be appreciated....thanks....j

I want to use Content Advisor in Internet Explorer 11. I have found a few post that say to use Local Group Policy Editor. However "Content Page" folder does not exist. I have checked the following locations:
Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>Windows Components>Internet Explorer>Internet Control Panel>
User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer -> Internet Control Panel ->

Internet Control Panel has only two folders "security page" and "advanced page". The "Content Page" folder does not exist.

Question: delete usb content

I removed this rio software a while ago, but now i noticed that everytime i use my usb it shows me this normal menu but the rio manager is still here, i went into safe mode and went to find file and searched rio and removed all the drivers and other rio files that were in windows. But i'm still getting this rio manager in my usb selection. How do i remove it?

Answer:delete usb content

You could try this... through my searching this was all I could find that might help you with your problem.

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/AutoFix.exe

Use it at your own risk, of course.

You could always just disable autoplay. If I had to take a guess at where those options are stored though I would think that somewhere in the registry is a key with all of the autoplay options. You may want to take a search through there.

My friend (we'll call him David) created for some sick and twisted purpose a folder path that contained 107 (no joke) folders within folders, something in the order of, "C:\folder\folder\folder\folder\..." David is now unable to delete the folder directory. When he tried to delete it, it says "Are you sure you want to move the folder and all its contents to the recycle bin? (yes, yes to all, or no)." He clicks "yes to all" or "yes", and it says, "The folder contains items who's name is too long for the recycle bin. Do you want to permanently delete it?" He clicks "yes" or "yes to all" again and it says, "Cannot delete z: Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and filename."

Anyhow, does anybody know how to delete this file? Any assistance would be greatly apreciated.

I cannot locate Content.IE5 on my computer to delete and clean up my files. I have tried several "Google" responses, but with no luck. Any Info would be very helpful. Thanks.

Answer:Content.IE5 (I can't locate to delete)

Left click on "Start" button.
Right Click on Internet Explorer (on top left)
Click on Internet Properties
from here you have the option to delete your history and delete you temp files.
You DO NOT need to go find the actual folder yourself, by the way its hidden just in case some accidentally deletes somthing that the computer ACTUALLY needs to function. this is for your protect.

I could save the contents to another location, delete the subfolder and then move it back but with mucho GBs this would take forever.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Just move everything that is in fulldvd9 to burns until fulldvd9 is empty. Then delete fullsdvd9.

Hi,
I'm not a naitive english speaker so please forgive my poor spelling and gramar.
I have a Samsung EVO 840 120gb SSD. It's not the one i have my Windows 10 OS installed on. I use it for games. So the problem is that i want to install a game called Star Citizen on it witch requires 108Gb (ridiculous). I have uninstalled and deleted everything on it but when looking in explorer it shows that it only has 88 of 111gb free. I have tried everything to find out what the 23,7 gb data is. Because i have my OS on another SSD i felt really confident in formating the gaming SSD in order to free up the needed space.

I right clicked on this pc->manage->disk management and right clicked the gaming ssd to choose format, but its greyed out! I can't format it.

edit:
I have changed the folder settings to show hidden folders and system folders and now i see its some kind of file called pagefile.sys and folders like $RECYCLE.BIN and Recovery and System Volume Information.
It seems Windows has used this space without my knowing. (virus?!?)

Help me! What can i do to use my SSD as intended?

Answer:Can't delete invisible content on SSD.

You can move the pagefile; Windows allows you to tell it where to put it(sic).
You can also change the default amount that Windows allocates on EVERY volume, but not set it to zero, for the recycle bin.

While trying to solve my previous problem I came across a bunch of folders that seem to contain useless stuff.
Firstly this folder.

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations

It seems to contain a lot of files that have itunes and ipod in the titles. I don't have any programmes connected to itunes though I think the person who used the computer before may have had. Does this folder generally contain anything important or can it be emptied?

C:\Deckard\System Scanner\20080404183352\backup\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

This folder seems to contain old temporary internet files that aren't getting erased when I do it (I erase my TI files everyday) through explorer for some reason. Most of them are old jpegs that look like they can be gotten rid of but some are Javascript files and Sheet documents. Can these all be deleted?

C:\Deckard\System Scanner\20080404183352\backup\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp

In the folder above there are 35 folders whose names begin with "WER" such as

C:\Deckard\System Scanner\20080404183352\backup\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER09c2.dir00

What are these? Their properties indicate that most of them were created this year although that's not always reliable. I only ask because all together they take up over a GiG of space.

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Can I delete the content of these folders?

Hello,

All those folders can safely be emptied without any problems.
I also recommend you download and install CCleaner which can perform this cleanup process plus more automatically for you.

I have a boring task. I make an archive of several years of a daily newspaper, and every number of this newspaper i laying in its own folder on the CD I've got. So I open the folders one by one and draw the only pdf-file inside for collecting them. My wish is to delete all the maps at once and keep the contents. Is it possible? Or is there any other solution to get by this Cinderella-job?

Answer:Delete folders and keep the content

Providing that they are all PDF files, I'd run a search for .pdf and then copy them all into a single folder. Then delete the folders and original files - if needed.

This may not be the best solution. Its a little risky as well.

You cant delete all the folders without deleting the content. You would have to move the files first.

Hi, I have a problem with a slow PC, so I searched the internet for a solution, I found that some people delete the content of the ( prefetch and %temp% ) folders and I want to know is it safe enough to delete the content

Thanks.

Answer:Can I delete the prefetch and %temp% content

Yes, you can delete from temp. But there's no point to it ... unless your drive is filling up with jigabytes of temp junk (unlikely).

Yes, you can delete from prefetch. But that won't speed things up. It will slow things down (just a bit ... and the system will soon recover from it). So there's no point to it either.

Do I set it as default from the setup utility? I don't really want to re-install windows 10 on the hdd the only files I have on the ssd is mostly drivers but documents and music I want to carry over

Answer:How do I transfer all content from SSD to HDD and delete old files

Assuming all the data fit on the new disk (if smaller), then all you have to do is clone your old drive on the new. This makes a perfect copy and you can also boot into Windows. Due to the different hardware you may need to activate Windows again, and even Office and some other applications. There are several applications to clone a disk such as Acronis True Image, Macrium Reflect etc.

Hi All!

I have a Windows XP Pro - 3Pack OS. Previously, I had ME and I could easily and simply go into the Windows folder and get to the IE Temp Internet files and see the initial listing of files and then go deeper to the Content folder which was usually 4 folders with an Alpha/Numeric combo of 8 digits, a desktop.ini file and index.dat. file. On XP (I only use Administrator, no other users), I go into My Computer, C:, Docs&Set, Admin, Local Set, Temp Int. I need the Content.IE to show up with the OTHER Temporary Internet files.

Now, I did some homework/searching before posting this and discovered the OTHER set of folders via Default User, etc. When I get to the Content.IE5 folder, the dates are from around the time I got the computer a year ago. The .dat file uses the current date or recent date.

Please step me thru configuring the Temp Int files so that I get current Content.IE5 files. Thank you and I hope that made sense (dealing with a death in the family, actually 2 deaths and I'm tired and :cry. Thanks, I appreciate any and all help. Have a good night!

Answer:Where's ie 6's content folder?

Sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family.

It is apparently a super-hidden folder and you can't see it. And it is still called IE5 it has never changed name even in IE8. You can get to it though.

Try copying and pasting this in the address bar of an Explorer window. %userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
Or browse to Temporary Internet Files and then append \Content.IE5 onto the path shown in the address bar and hit enter.

I've looked all over and was wondering if I could get some help here. I work where there are public machines, and we tell people NOT to use Internet Explorer, BUT only 10% of people actually adhere to this. That's life.

I've noticed that with IE, when the computer crashes, or when IE isn't shut down properly, that the user's information is still stored onto the browser. So, lets say someone logs into Yahoo! Mail, the machine crashes, they leave, we unknowingly bring the machine back up and the next user uses IE to use Yahoo, they can end up seeing the previous user's E-mail content.

It's impossible to teach every user to do things like Uncheck the "Remember me" boxes on each site or any options alike, so I was hoping there'd be a way to write a batch file to delete all browsing content. In otherwords, essentially do the same thing as selecting the option from within IE to delete all content on exit, except with a batch script that runs when the computer logs in to Windows.

We actually only have a couple of Windows 10 machines, but we mainly have Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 machines, since we don't have all of the proper licenses for every machine to be upgraded, as well as the Windows 10 server. I assume any scripts would be more or less identical.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

As always, there seems to be lots of alleged fixes out there, which may work on versions earlier than Win 10... but not with Win 10. The struggle for getting rid of this now un-needed bloat seems to be wrapped up in file permissions. But even when I try to clobber it with administrative authority, it won't budge. One fix suggests that you can use disk cleanup to get rid of it by selecting previous installation files. Heh. Yeah. Just TRY and find that option in Win 10.

Anyhow I found one of old folders with strange content inside. Every folder and file inside have strange name (not assigned by me) and I can't delete these files because I get warning that there is a wrong name of the file, and I can't change the name because there is wrong name of the file.

On this image you can see strange names and a warning (in Polish) after I tried to delete a file. This is standard warning which says "Name of the file is wrong or too long. Choose different file name." When I try to change the name I get the same warning. There are some strange dates as well.
I don't know what to do whit this. Please help

Answer:Strange folder content

That looks like a certain threat I know that used to do this. I also know that windows 7 has a bug that no one is sure of the cause that can also cause this behavior.

As for forcing a delete of those objects there are several ways.

This is one: Undeletable File - Delete

There is software that can do it called unlocker. As well as malwarebytes fileassassin, and superantispyware.

You can use a linux live cd to do it.

There are multiple ways, but those are the most popular.

I have been trying to regain disc space on my SSD by using System Mechanic (SM). SM allows me to gain access to the hidden folder content.ie5 and I have been deleting a lot of junk from this folder.

So far I have removed all the HTML links and flash objects in this folder. However there are a lot of other things in this folder taking up a lot of space. After two days I recovered close to four GB of space but I believe if it were safe to delete the other files I could gain another five to eight GB of space.

Question is, can I delete everything in this folder (content.ie5) or are there files that must remain in the ie5 folder for Windows seven or ie8 to continue to work properly?

Answer:Windows 7 / IE 8 / Content.ie5 folder

See if you can gain more space by running TFC......download TFC by Old Timer TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer - Geeks to Go Forums and save it to your desktop.
Save any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!
Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista/Windows 7 right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator.
Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.

***TFC (Temp File Cleaner) will clear out all temp folders for all user accounts (temp, IE temp, java, FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari), including Administrator, All Users, LocalService, NetworkService, and any other accounts in the user folder. It also cleans out the %systemroot%\temp folder and checks for .tmp files in the %systemdrive% root folder, %systemroot%, and the system32 folder (both 32bit and 64bit on 64bit OSs). It shows the amount removed for each location found (in bytes) and the total removed (in MB). Before running, it will stop Explorer and all other running apps.

My Windows XP, SP2 OS stopped working and before I do a reinstalll via repair I wanted assurance that "My Documents" Folder content will not be deleted with this new install.

Is there a definitive answer in your forum database to confirm one way or the other?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:My Documents Folder Content

As long as you don't format the hard drive, then repairing wouldn't delete any of your documents. Just make sure you don't accidentally hit wrong button.

Hi. Not sure how to explain this. All my old cache used to be stored in the 'Temporary Internet Files\low\Content.IE5' folder that's hidden, however nowadays when I look the four folders in 'Content.IE5' are simply unused. Everything I view in the browser (flv video clips, images, etc) save in 'Temporary Internet Files' only. As I say I know for sure they used to save in the 'Content.IE5' folders so I was wondering if anybody knows why they no longer are? I don't use IE all that often but this is something I've just realised and don't have an answer for. I've tried searching for it online but all I get is accessing the hidden Content folder for files. I'm using Admin (always), in case anybody should mention that.

Oh, and this is for Internet Explorer 8, and Windows x64 (SP 2).

------

Sorry guys, ignore this - I was confused and added the 'low' part on. Without it it's showing up all the files. I didn't even realise there were two different versions of it. How come?

Hello,

I have a folder on my desktop but I am unable to view its content although the folder size and information reflects otherwise. It states that there are 10 sub-folders in the main folder and the size is about 200MB but nothing appears in the folder when I open it.

Have tried copying the folder and I can see all the name and files in the folder being transferred but again, once the copying is done, I can't view anything in the folder (it appears empty). BTW, its a normal folder with all my files (pictures, word documents etc).

Anyone can help me ? Thanks in advance :)

Answer:Folder Content Problem

go to tools--> folder options--> view--> show hidden files and folders and you can also uncheck the hide system files.

Hello, once all the drivers are installed, does the C:\DRIVERS\ folder contain all of the installers?I'm asking this cause I bought a used T61 and it came properly installed but with no drivers disc. It looks like every time I run a driver installer the files get unpacked to that folder and then are executed. I just wanna be sure that EVERY driver is contained in that folder so that I can burn it to a cd and forget about drivers. Other info: downloading drivers is an issue because internet at home is crap, that's why I need to make sure that that's all I need. The folder is 597MB, so it looks feasible that it contains everything... I'm running Win 7 x64 if that matters at all. Sorry if the question is too basic for some of you here, but I searched Google and the forums and didn't see this addressed.  Thanks!

Answer:T61 C:\DRIVERS folder content

the drivers can be found at lenovo.com http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67853 if you install system update it will download and install the drivers & other software for you

Modifying this **** customize folder function in windows 7, I so loath it...ever since XP introduced it seldom has it gotten it right.

My mp3 folder should always show as list, plain list. as much objects as possible makes use of the screen real estate as possible but every time i it resets to whatever...music detailed list.

And when sort by should have the default, becouse i always for my music use the last modified since i listen to music in winamp in the order of latest "purchased".

And the option to show all folders the same has been dimmed out and can't be set.

In vista this was possible but it always forgot the settings after a short time.

There are many posts on this forum about not being able to find the folder Content.IE5, but I wasn't able to find a satisfactory answer that would allow me to access it. Here's why I needed to today. I was sent a Word document attached to an e-mail. If I open the document, then select Save, the document shows in a cockamaime folder like WDOKHD22. I have XP, so clicking the up arrow to go to the next higher folder takes me to Content.IE5, then to Temporary Internet Files, Local Settings, [My name], Documents & Settings, Local Disk. The reason I want to access the last folder in the tree is that after opening the file, I did some extensive editing, and dumb me, simply saved it. When I went to retrieve it, it was not where I thought I had stored it, so I went back to the e-mail, opened the document and again selected Save -- not to save it, but to see what else was in that folder -- hopefully the file I had edited, so I could then move it. Didn't work. If I try to find WDOKHD22 or Content.IE5 with Explorer, neither are there -- despite my folder options being set to not hide system folders or files.

Does this happen because the WDOKHD22 and Content.IE5 folders don't actually exist on the HD; they're just temporarily in memory when you open an attached file -- or what?

Assume I have an external hard disk with one (backup) partition which is currently mounted as drive Q:\

Now I right-click on the Recycle Bin icon on my desktop, then select Properties--->Drive Q: and enable

"Don't move files to the recycleBin. Remoive files immediately when deleted"

Much to my surprise this switch does NOT delete currently existing stuff in RecycleBin of drive Q:\
The toggeling applies only to future deletes.

Can someone confirm this strange behaviour?

How can I tell Win 7 to delete ALL currently existing files in RecycleBin of drive Q: ?

Can I simply unhide "protected folders" in WinExplorer and delete all the files manually?

Or is there a smarter way?

How do I delete all files+folders fom all RECYCLEBINs from all partitions currently mounted?

Answer:Disabling Recycle Bin does NOT delete current existing content?

Just a quick overview: I am a malware expert as well, just having difficulty with this one because it is remote and if it were in person, I'd pop the drive out and delete these files from a bay and make the drive my ***** or just re-image since this is a time sink...however, I cannot. I have a PC and a couple of tablets that are all connected to the same OneDrive account.

My original intention was that I edit the pictures on the PC and store them locally, but have them automatically uploaded to the cloud so that my tablets could access them online.

Instead all of my tablets have downloaded my OneDrive content and stored it locally, which is a total pain given their limited local storage.

IS there any way to delete all of the local OneDrive content from my tablets, tell it not to download anything unless I specifically tell it to download it, and be certain that I'm only deleting the local content rather than the content stored in the Cloud?

I'm running the latest build of Windows 10 (Updated today) and OneDrive.

Answer:Delete ALL local Onedrive content, and prevent re-downloading?

Yes. Turn On or Off OneDrive Files On-Demand in Windows 10 Apps Features Tutorials

You may also need to download the latest OneDrive version 17.3.7073.1013 from Microsoft to get the FOD option. Check the version in OneDrive > Right click/hold with touch the cloud icon in the systray > settings tab > About > On each device.

In WinXp Prof how can I clean the index.dat file in LS/Temp/ITF/content.ie5

I can not rename the content folder nor the index file. I have read something about deleting in DOS mode but i don't know how to start up in DOS mode and what steps i would take from there.

Sometimes i can not even find the content folder unless i keep clicking the IT folder then is eventually shows up. I do have hidden files and folders disabled

Haven't really been exposed to DOS. I have looked at files and sizes in DOS but not delete any

Is there anyway to keep the Dat file refreshed such as the Int temp files by choosing to delete them after closing IS (we all know that does not happen all the time. Reboot does)

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box, press OK . The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of that Temp folder.

then go to C:\windows\temp and select EVERYTHING except temporary internet files, cookies and history folders and delete all that and then do the same for C:\temp

1) Open Control Panel
2) Click on Internet Options
3) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
4) You may also want to check the box "Delete all offline content"
5) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the temporary internet files
6) You can now also click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that websites have placed on your hard drive if you want to

Here's what could be a Win7 bug (I like to start with that sentence in order to increase the number of Google hits related to bugs).

I created a file in a folder, let's say it was called init.py.

If I delete it, the file still is visible in WinExplorer.

Of course if I browse to another folder and come back, the file will be absent.

I remember in the Win NT days in the final days of the 20th century, there used to be a "refresh" menu item that got rid of these remnants. Where's the refresh button now? How can I get refreshed without having to refresh for it is annoying.

Answer:sluggish folder content update

Strange, I waited about 1 minute and it did not refresh. The workload of the PC has been trivial so that's not to blame.

ADDENDUM AS AN EDIT:

I see that if you hit F5 you can get a refresh.

I have traced the problem to the order of the files. If the file that I delete is at the top of the list, it will not disappear when deleted (until F5). If the file is at the bottom then it will disappear when deleted and no refresh is required.

The position of the file was determined by sorting (either on date or name, etc).

I have a massive collection of MP3 files stored on an external HD.  It has artists' folders and some MP3 song files in the folders.  Is there a program I can use that would list the content by folder name and then by folder content?

THANKS.

Answer:Folder and File Content Listing

I don't know "how pretty" you need this to be, but you can use the good, old Windows dir command under Command Prompt, with the switches of your choice in regard to formatting, and redirecting the result to a text file.

Try opening Command Prompt, changing directory to the root folder of that massive collection you describe, and typing in the following command: dir /S > folders&files.txt

Then open folders&files.txt with Notepad and see if that's what you're looking for.  You can add to or trim the actual output of the dir command using the various switches available.  If you type help dir > diroptions.txt then open diroptions.txt in Notepad and print it you'll have a reference for what switches are available and what each one does.

Hey guys i have a serious problem. My hard drive has 2 partition C and D. C is where all the application is and D is where i keep all my songs and movies.
Just recently, when i tried to access my D drive, to my surprise there was only 1 folder. A KDB folder. Inside this folder there are a files with .box and .bix. All my songs were no where to be seen.

I tried scanning my pc for virus but nothing. The only results i got from AVG is 2 files changed::shell 32 (C:Windows/system32/shell32.dll) and host (C:Windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts).

My question is ..Is this KDB folder a virus??

How do i get back my old files???

If i format my C drive, will my D drives files magically come back???

My home page was reinstated and the pc was running normal again. This morning i ran a virus check and lo and behole there the bloody thing was back, embedded in = C:\Documents and Settings\Guest\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 before when i have had similar problems i follow the extension addie until i find the virus and extract and delete it manually, this time for some reason i caanotI have ticked the "show hidden files and folders" option as well as unticked the " hide protected files (recommended)"Still the Content.IE5 folder is hidden and this is where the spyware had nicely nestled itselfWhat can i do now? Thanks

Hi,It's not really back - it's just a leftover in your temporary internet files. You can delete the contents easily by doing next:* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tabUnder Browsing History, click "Delete". Click "Delete Files", "Delete cookies" and "Delete history"Click Close below.Keep in mind, as I see in above post, this should be done on the "Guest" account, since it's located in the Content.IE5 folder on the guest account.A nice trick to open your Content.IE5 is by going to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field: shell:cache\content.ie5

Hi, our pc has Trend PC-cillian as the internet security software. We didn't have any problem with it. But, last week, we somehow got hit with adware virus. PC-cillian indicated that it found verious virus on our machine and can't remove them. Since then, when we google something and click on a link, it brings us to some other ad site.

We tried various methods to get rid of the virus. But, somehow the virus or something started to cause PC-cillian to trigger a microsoft error dialog that closes the application. After going back and forth with Trend and uninstalling and reinstalling PC-cillian, the scan function now works. However, some of their online tools, Anti-spy and Housecall, are still triggering the ms error dialog and closing the window. We also tried McCafee and Symantec online virus scans and they all die. We saw that the tools are abending when scanning the contents in temporary internet file/content.ie5/bprmqez. So, we tried to manually delete the file. But, everytime we tried to expand or delete the folder content.ie5, we get the ms dialog and it closes explorer and hangs for a while. We tried to delete using dos, but, don't see the directory.

What else can we do?

we are using windows xp professional

i don't know if this is a question that has been asked on here before but i'm guessing it might be; i wanted to know if downloading the new windows 10 would delete any of the content on my laptop's hard drive such as documents, music, images, etc. in all honesty i am not very good at computers, i'm not entirely ignorant but am by no means a tech guru, so if it ended up deleting anything i would be entirely lost as to how to recover it, and although if i really tried i'm sure i could figure such a task out, i have no inclination to try it. so pretty much the summary of this question is should i back up everything that i don't want to lose, or will it all still be there after downloading the new windows 10?

Ok, I'm bascially computer illiterate. I think my computer is infested with adware. I have run my antivirus and have come up with the following files:istactivex.dll; mediaticketsinstaller.ocx; and ole32ws.dll. Norton is unable to delete these files. I've tried to view the temporary internet files folder, but am unable to access subfolders with the Content.IE5 name. One of the description states: The compressed file istactivex.dll within c:\Documents and Settings\My name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.I#5\C5YJ4DEJ\0006_regular[2].cab is a Adware threat. But I can't find the folder or figure out how to delete it. I've already deleted all files in the temporary internet folder through control panel/internet options. Any suggestions on how to proceed to get rid of this stuff? I've cleaned the computer using Spybot but this still comes up through Norton. Also - what do you know of CWS? Howdy to all who graciously help on the forum because Google can't turn anything up. I am looking for an application, a software download, a work around, a tweaking of the settings or SOMEthing to do this task. (using OS Maverick) I have a folder that has LOTS of quotes, inspiration tidbits, pictures and I want to automatically rotate 5-10 of these images, words or phrases, on a daily basis viewable via my email inbox. There are some really impactful words to live by in that folder, but they don't help if they sit in a file to be read every couple years. Let me know if there is anything that needs to be clarified. Thank you to any who can break through my dead end.

Answer:Can you set up an automatic daily email containing content from a folder?

Just realized after typing this all up, that you stated: Quote(using OS Maverick)If you have a Windows XP or later computer available to run as a email creation server off to the side, the info below applies as a method to pull this off. The Mac computer can then open the e-mails created from the Windows computer just as you open other e-mails from people who send you e-mail from Windows or Linux systems etc. This would be so much easier if you made a website to visit when in need of looking at this info. As far as what I am reading you want to spam yourself with this info on a rotation if I read this correctly. While this can be done, its far more involved than a simple website with a java script that reads in the day or uses a random generator for content to display and applies a picture etc to the web page etc.For this to work via e-mail for FREE you would need to do some programming because I dont know of any other way around this as for I dont believe you will find a software on the market that is an install and leave computer running to e-mail you to another computer etc.Do you have any programming experience and if so what languages and to what level?Best Option below for Windows computer e-mail creation only:The most simplest method I can come up with would cost you about $69 by use of this software here: http://www.jitbit.com/macro-recorder/purchase/Basically you would have to have a computer running 24/7 just for this purpose of sending yourself e-mail. Is there any way to configure Task Scheduler to run SyncToy 2.1 when the computer starts it's shutdown process? The computer is running a 32 bit version of Vista Home Premium.

A family member is using Rhapsody to add music files to a portable USB drive. They want to use a second physically larger, and not so portable, external USB drive as a backup. Ideally, they would like to have a newly added music file instantly added to the backup drive. From what I have read about SyncToy, it does not have any built-in feature like this. I did set up Task Scheduler to run SyncToy at start up and every hour but I could not see any obvious trigger setting to run SyncToy every time an addition is made to a particular folder or a sub-folder in the chosen folder. The next best choice would have been to run SyncToy at shutdown but I did not see an obvious trigger action for that either.

Hello
I am running win 7 and and I've noticed that the folder columns change based on the content of the folders. For example, when I'm looking at a folder with documents in it, I have the following columns:
Name
Date Modified
Type
Size

When I go into a folder with mp3s:
Name
Track number
Title
Contributing artists
Album

For pictures:
Name
size
type
date
date modified

I'd like to have all folders have the same columns no matter what files are in it. I've tried using Tools->folder options->view-> apply to folders button, but it does not fix the issue. Any way to change it for all folders?
Thanks

After running Windows 7 Professional A-OK for over a year, suddenly the main Documents folder (My Computer, Documents, under Libraries) has icons and folder names I do not recognize. The folder names are foreign to me, but resemble names as in an address book. When one of the folders is opened, it contains a few files from my original Documents folder, but there is no correlation to the folder name. The folder icon looks like three blank pages, rather than the original manila folder icon. Interestingly, if I click on the plus sign next to Documents, I get a drop down folder named My Documents, and the contents of it is normal and contains all my documents. ????

This began after some regular updates, so I did a restore prior to the updates, but the problem persists. I am working around it by creating a shortcut to the desktop from the My Documents folder (within Documents) that appears to be normal.

Has anyone seen this and if so, what is suggested to correct? I can post a screenshot of what it looks like if needed. Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

Hello everyone!

It's my first time posting a thread so I hope I'm being clear enough (plenty of experience reading thought so I guess it's time to practice what I have seen so far :-D )

I work on a roaming profile environment (Windows 2008 R2). This is the issue: I recently moved (cut/paste) several folders from C: to the desktop, so their content could be saved as part of my profile (not a big deal, regular stuff). Had to restart my device (no errors involved) and after logging back I got a surprise: all the content from one of the folders in question is missing!

Just to be more specific, this is exactly what I did: select, cut and paste no more than 5 folders; just recalled that the one missing the content was renamed before restarting (all the content was still there before this point).

I know important things should NEVER be located in the desktop (my fault, sorry!), but have anyone seen this case before? I'll appreciate any help you could give me.

Regards from the Caribbean!

Answer:Folder content missing after sync (Windows 7 x64)

Hi sysvatar and welcome to the Forum.
I have never used a roaming profile o may not be much help but your post was getting a little near to the bottom of th epage and then might get a bit lost!
Forgive me for being naive but are you sure you have the actual folders on the desktop and not just a link to them on the C drive? have you tried renaming the one with the lost contents to it's old name? If they are the actual folders did they get moved or just copied, have you checked to see if they are still on the C drive? If the contents have got deleted you would have surely got a message "Do you want to delete etc". Have you checked the recycle bit?

I just attached my Micromax canvas smartphone to my windows 8 laptop to transfer some of my pics.I copied the pics and then looked for an appropriate folder in Documents to paste those pics.I found a folder named My Pics which already had some of my pics.I created a new folder inside it and then went back to my phone location. But to my surprise, when I came back there in My Pics I just found that folder empty!! (space 0 bytes)...I'm really confused that what has just happened,I've lost my pics forever.I even tried System restore but in vain. Can someone explain me why this happened?

Answer:Lost the content of a folder in documents for no reason at

Windows will typically start a wizard to transfer your pictures from your phone to your computer. There is a checkbox to delete the pictures off the phone when the transfer is done. It sounds to me like that is what you did, and those pictures may be somewhere else on your computer.

Also, did you check your phone to verify the pictures are gone? The connection Between your computer and the phone may have been broken, but the pictures would still be there.

I needed to reinstall Vista, so, using the (.pst) export file wizard, I backed-up a copy of my Outlook 2007 file. When I reinstalled vista and Office 2007, the only content I can access in Outlook are the Inbox and the sub folders. I have no contacts/calendar detail - which I'm not too concerned at.However, all the content from sent mail is missing - the folder is empty - does a .pst backup not include the sent mail?If the backup should include the sent mail, how do I access them? I've ran the repair tool but it's made no difference?thanks

Apparently I'm having problems with that too...Thanks!

I am not sure if this is a virus, spyware or malware. My internet searches pull what I am looking for, but clicking on my findings takes me to the wrong place. I have tried google and yahoo searches.

I have a pretty good feeling it has to do with the contents of this folder...

C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

If I use CCleaner, McAfee virus scan, or Adaware they all freeze when they reach this folder. If I simply browse to the folder it causes Explorer.exe to crash, the pc freezes momentarily and then is seemingly back to normal. I have tried all of the above in safe mode with the same results. I also attempted to log in as another user and delete/edit/browse to the folder and I again get the same result.

My system restore also seems to be effected as anytime I try to fall back to a previous restore point it fails.

HELP

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.

At the final dialog box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit Edit then Select All then click Edit and then click Copy doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet....
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply. DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

The My Pictures folder(1) and the files contained therein(272) are using several hundred MB, yet it does not dislay any of the files or folders. When i used the search option, i noticed that the My Documents folder also did not have it's path attached as the rest ( Documents and Settings, etc. )do. This is odd and i am perplexed. Tried everything i can think of and used some researched options to no avail; so I've come here for some assistance. Help please...

Recently when I've wanted to open a Pdf file on the internet, or my wife tries to open an attachment in her emails (use Orange webmail) when logged onto the compuer under my logon. We get the following error message.

Along the top of the error box it says : D:\Documents and Setting\my name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\V3...

Then next to the red 'X' it says : Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access this item.

When I checked my Temp Internet File, I found I was missing the Content.IE5 folder. This folder still exists in the default user and my wifes Temp Internet File folder. I tried copying across my wifes folder which it did, but it doesn't show in my folder and I still get the above message.

I've tried to create a new folder aswell, but it didn't even give me the option to when I right clicked.

I can't remember deleting it or doing anything that would delete it.

Answer:Missing Content.IE5 folder in Temp Internet Files

Do I correctly understand you have XPSP2 and IE5 not IE6?
When IE is open what does it say if you click on help>about Internet Explorer?
Do this in each user account.
Also What is the status of your user and the others vis a vis limited or administrator?
Finally have you checked with the settings of Zonealarm to see who has what permission?

Hi!

I have a folder D:\Folder, and that folder have some pdf, doc .... files. Now I want that if I start search files that in search result I NOT get content of that folder!

Thanks!

Answer:Disable folder content from showing in search results!

Hello Comii, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You can make sure that the option below is not selected in Search Options to not have file content included in the search results. You can also check in the index locations to make sure that folder is not checked so it will not be indexed and included in the search results.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I need to have folder content preview disabled on my machine but I still need to have pictures as thumbnails instead of icons. What do I need to do?

Please note checking "Always show Icons, never thumbnails" wont help because it applies to Picture Files as well.

Thank you in advance!

I have a new laptop with Win10 Home.
It came with a 256 SSD and I installed a 1TB SSD in the empty bay.
I have way too much personal data to store on the 256 SSD.

So I try my hand at changing the default new content locations to the 2nd SSD and did not do so good.
I backed out and now see (in the C:\ I have two Documents icons in "This PC" and no Desktop icon. Both collect documents.

I cannot rename one or make any changes no matter what. I tried reverting to previous and other things I googled.

Where my desktop folder is beats me. Is there a way to repair File Explorer?

My 1TB SSD is OK. I just created destination folders there.

Answer:Tried To Change New Content Storage Loction And Now Have Folder Issues

Hi, unfortunately it is all too easy to make mistakes with that and every so often someone gets into a difficult situation.

This is why we continually urge people to use disk imaging routinely- so they can go back to a previous good state quite quickly and without technical help (e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) ).

You could try System Restore, if you have enabled System Restore (it's off by default) - and if you have any useful restore points.

This may help:
Restore Default Location of Personal Folders in Windows 10 User Accounts Tutorials

However, depending on what exactly you have done, you may end up with a corrupt user profile or lose some data.

Proceed with caution- if you have backups, fine, else back up any data that is not backed up and which you can still access before making changes.

Considering the need to move data:
First, it's very wise not to have personal data in the same partition as Windows.
Second, you don't HAVE to use the default folders Windows provides. You can create your own and put them into the appropriate libraries.

Note that programs you install will often create folders in Documents, Videos, Photos... so I regard those as 'Their folders' - not 'My folders'.

For clarification:

Is there a way to repair File Explorer?

It's not your OS or programs that are 'broken' - but the organisation of your file system on disk.

Hi, I was wondering if this was possible...

I would like to change all the default yellow folders on my Vista Ultimate x64 system to the Teal/blue icons such as those in the User folders. Those icons however are specific for that particular folder ie: music user folder has a Blue folder with a CD and music symbol.

Within imageres.dll located in %SystemRoot%\system32\ there is a blue folder exactly the same as the others however it is generic - like a blue default folder.

I can change the default yellow folder to this one, HOWEVER, i would like to have the thumbnail contents previews to function as they do with the yellow folders - but with this blue icon as default. Sounds simple...but i cant find any way of doing it.

The customize tab states that if you change the folder icon, no content preview will be available - how do i get around this???

Any help is much appreciated...
