Windows 8 Lock Screen Stuck, Cursor/num/cap lock work

Question: Windows 8 Lock Screen Stuck, Cursor/num/cap lock work

Hi, new to these forums, hope I don't break any rules or anything here.

My laptop is a
Sony Vaio - Model: SVE141R11L
Product name: SVE14135CXB
Pre-loaded with Windows 8 x64
Intel(R) Core i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60GHz
6GB RAM w/ 900GB HDD space
Purchased in Navy Exchange last year (around July 2013)

I have dropped it once or twice from at most a 3ft fall inside a padded case. I mostly use my computer for school work, some gaming, extensive video/photo editing, internet browsing. I've installed some debatable programs but have been installed long ago. Most of my programs included Microsoft Office, Adobe suite, Steam, iTunes, uTorrent, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, Winrar, VLC, etc. But are now gone due to the refresh I had just done last week for prior problems, but still experience problems.

I recently been having issues with my computer where it just won't respond at all. Like today, I had it working for a few hours, but then went out and left my laptop on the lock screen, and came back to it being completely stuck. Completely stuck as in, no keys or clicks would unlock the screen to the login prompt. However, my cursor was fully able to move around the screen, and my caps/num lock buttons work as they display the lights enabling/disabling them. The time when it was stuck was 8:03pm, but the clock was stuck on 7:55. But on the bottom of the front of the laptop, the HDD orange light is not lit up at all, which I believe suggest that the HDD is not reading/properly reading. Oddly enough, when I unplugged the power cord, the HDD light flickered a little then disappeared, still no response - could be related to the PSU I suppose?

Another problem I faced before was the Windows 8.1 update failure, resulting in reverted changes, etc. I also had problems in the first few months of owning this, but found it was the incompatibility of an old antivirus that I guess didn't work too well with Win8 causing me to have to do a full wipe before. That was long ago. Moreover, the problems I have been experiencing have been unresponsiveness, from what I believe, are the fast boot Win 8 provides (but I turned that off), issues with Win8 not being able to load drivers from sleep mode upon opening the laptop (turned off automatic sleep), and now with the lock screen being stuck. I know my problems aren't detailed, but maybe these problems are linked to a bigger similar problem that people have been facing? My last bet would be to do a full factory restore/ repair, although I don't have a Windows 8 boot CD. Thanks for your time.

Preferred Solution: Windows 8 Lock Screen Stuck, Cursor/num/cap lock work

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows 8 Lock Screen Stuck, Cursor/num/cap lock work

Sounds like one too many drops killed the computer. You may get lucky and find a local mom & pop shop that will fix it cheaper then Sony.

Hi,

how to disable Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages?

I have desktop pc with two keyboards usb and bluetooth. Also TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack software, but in device manager: keyboard > hid keyboard device both using microsoft drivers. And I dont have any software installed for keyboards. Also bluetooth has separate system tray indications (it is also disabled) so its not that. I made some googling and found other fix it with Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General KeyIndication set to 0, but I dont have it in registry. Acualy I dont have anywhere in registry KeyIndication. So any ideas how to disable it? Thanks

Answer:Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages

Hi,

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

Hello everyone,
I have a toshiba dx1210 PC. About two years ago I upgraded the OS from 7 to 10.
Everything was running smoothly until a few days ago when I started the PC and couldn't get past the lock screen.
I then booted from a 10 repair disk but it was unable to automatically do a startup repair. I tried a system restore but it said that there were no restore points. I was unable to boot into safe mode by the usual methods but I eventually did it from a command prompt via the repair disk. I ran sfc /scannow but it showed no corrupt files.
Also I tried to restore from a system image on an external disk but it couldn't be found when plugged into a USB port.
I called Microsoft support and their response was that it is a driver issue because the Toshiba dx1210 isn't compatible with 10 despite the fact that it had been running smoothly for the last two years.
All replies welcome.

Answer:Windows stuck at lock screen

Hi, Please check your Update History. Have you had an update around the time this started to happen?

If it's a driver update, you could roll back the relevant driver and block that particular update.

I was unable to boot into safe mode by the usual methods but I eventually did it from a command prompt via the repair disk.

- I'd be interested to know how you did that!

Also try a disk check. As you can get to Safe Mode, you should be able to run the portable version of Crystal Diskinfo

First of all, Im really sorry for my bad English.

After I finish scaning, Im restarting PC without using msconfig again to turn off safe mode.. Suddenly, Im stucked in Lock Screen.
My keyboard and mouse is still working, and I cant use SHIFT+Restart.
I really need help.
Thank you very much, if someone can tell me how to fix it I really appreciate it.

I have a new computer that I just installed Windows 10 Pro on. (It's still not activated though.) It has all the latest updates.
So once in awhile when I try to log in after the box was locked (WinKey+L sequence), it gets stuck on this screen (just took the picture):

I saw this happen already twice. The first time it happened, I let it spin like that the whole night. Then in the morning, I tried Ctrl+Alt+Del, or quickly pressing the power button. The message changed to "shutting down" but that was it.
So eventually I had to press and hold the power button for about 5 seconds to kill the power to the box. That rebooted it...
Does anyone know why does it get stuck like this? And if it does it again, is there a way to "un-stuck" it without killing the power?
PS. This is a local desktop. It has a single local Windows account that is an administrator. The Windows account has a password, but is set up for autologon during boot. I installed this Windows 10 literally two weeks ago. So it's almost mint-fresh with the stock setup.

So actually I had a virus and looked up is to get rid of it.
Then I downloaded something to get rid of it and tried to do safe mode.
I did the msconfig thing clicked on network and clicked ok.
then it asked if I wanted to restart or restart the laptop.
So I restarted the computer and it lead me to the lock screen.
I then tried to connect to my wifi that does work and entered my 4 character long password.
And the wifi nor password work.
Please I need help Super urgently

The whole thing started to appear around 3 days ago. The problem is that everytime I boot, windows 10 stays on a weird lock screen without any buttons for a long long time. There are just 4 icons in the bottom right corner (shut down, accesibility, ethernet...) It sometimes manages to get to desktop, and sometimes not. Not sure what caused it, could be a recent windows update, not sure tho. I ran some HDD scans and everything turned out fine, also did a registry cleanup, tried disabling lock screen, and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions or solutions?

Answer:Windows 10 stuck at lock screen for a long time

Welcome to the TenForums @Taukonza

Could you please review your update history and see if any updates for Windows or Drivers were installed in last week?

You mentioned when you boot. Not sure if this is happening on restart or power on or both. If it is power on booting can I suggest a quick test. Open a command prompt (admin) and type

powercfg -h off

This will disable hibernation and in turn Fast Startup. Test. If no change you can re-enable by typing

powercfg -h on

After you boot have you reviewed your Event Viewer to see if Windows is kicking out any serious errors to the system log?

Lock Screen Background - Change in Windows 10

Hello!

Windows 7 sp1 to Windows 10 upgrade went well at first**. I was poking around the Windows 10 OS for a little while looking at an App or two. . . .

I chose to reboot. Now my machine boots to the lock screen. I see a photo background, the correct time and date (time updates properly) and one icon in the bottom right corner: the ethernet connection icon.

Of course, the mouse and keyboard work fine in the BIOS environment.
**At first, my full setup with multiple monitors, ATI Radeon 5770 video card, gaming mouse and keyboard worked perfectly well. This issue happened after my first manual reboot: start menu>reboot

Once I'm looking at the Lock Screen there is no response to the usb keyboard's input, nor usb mouse's input.

My PC setup at the moment:
(video card/multiple monitors removed, gaming keyboard and gaming mouse removed)
One monitor connected to the on-board video DVI output
basic usb keyboard and mouse connected (MoBo does not have PS/2 ports)

All systems are fully updated and well maintained:
CPU: Intel i7 (I don't remember the specific kind - Sandy Bridge generation, I think)
C: drive: Samsung 840 pro SSD
mother board: P8Z68-VGEN3
16gb RAM

i was stuck on the lock screen after setting power saver mode for both the system and screen, as well as turning on the screensaver. The screensaver did not have login enabled. i had to restart to login. What might cause this? recently, i did not have "turn off screen" enabled, but i had wanted to protect the screen. Also, screen saver was never on. But i changed "turn screen off" to 1 hour, while sleep mode was still 3 hours. screen saver is less time.

It seems like my Lock Screen wallpaper is stuck on "Windows Spotlight". When I try to change to "Picture" or "Slideshow" in settings nothing happens, and when i choose "Slideshow" and then "Windows Spotlight" the preview turns grey with the loading indicator and nothing more happens.
Is there anyone that can help me with this? Would really like to be able to choose my own lock screen wallpaper, though Spotlight is a pretty cool feature.

Hello everyone, Does anyone ever had an issue with Windows shortcut keys not working after a user logs back in after a screen lock? In my case, once I locked my screen once and log back into Windows, my shortcuts like CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't pop up with the password change menu, CTRL+SHIFT+ESC doesn't show my task manager, or even WinKey+L doesn't lock anymore.  Any ideas what could be wrong here? I tried updating all the drivers using the ThinkVantage software but doesn't fix anything.  I tried checking my sticky key or filter key settings and it's all disabled.  I tried using an external keyboard and the Windows shortcuts don't work. Also what is strange is that if I use any screensaver and I try to log back into my account, it goes black. Nothing shows up, no task bar or any of the Windows keyboard shortcuts work.  It didn't even go into sleep mode. I'm not sure how to fix this issue without trying to format and start from scratch again. Can anyone please give me some advice? Thanks!

Answer:W540 Windows Shortcuts Don't Work After Screen Lock?

I solved my issue by reading this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/New-W540-will-not-shut-down-OR-reboot/td... It was caused by the fingerprint reader drivers and internet explorer 11 windows update.  Disabled finger print drivers and software (rename FP directory).  Removed IE11.  Fixed my issues including unable to sleep, reboot, or shutdown.

I have a new T450 running Windows 8.1.  After boot up and anytime windows lock screen, the fingerprint reader does not scan fingerprints and log me into windows.  It is not lit up either.  I have disabled and enable from the bios, deleted and reinstalled the Lenovo Fingerprint Reader Pro, it registers fingerprints but that's it.  I have updated any drivers I could find..

Answer:T450 Fingerprint reader does not work from the Windows lock screen

Exact same issue on T550, running Windows 10.  Fingerprint reader worked great on my laptop, then had to do a windows reset and it won't work now.  Lenovo Tech Support has been no help at all.  They sent me a new keyboard (which made zero sense) and a new fingerprint reader (which I was pretty sure was not the problem).  I tried them and no change.  I have tried tons of different drivers with no success.  Lenovo has been no help.  Please let me know if you come upon a solution!!

Recently, i've noticed that everytime windows 10 (x64 pro) starts and gets to the initial lock screen, it takes up to 6 seconds to show the mouse cursor and register keyboard events in order to let me log in. It used to be instantaneous.

Is this related to Build 1511 (10586.104)? All my drivers are up to date, etc.

Don't log in :-D

Use a very difficult password. We have plenty of password generators on majorgeeks.
Enable the system admin account and password protect it.
Those two are probably enough. How advanced is he?

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from the taskbar on my desktop. The upgrade was successful and I was able to use my computer normally. Today, when I started my computer, a disk check was started. After a long time of being stuck at 10%, I force booted the computer off. Now, the computer boots past the Windows 10 logo and goes to a black screen with the cursor. This screen appears before the login screen does. I am able to move the mouse but that is the limit of my control. The mouse is also showing the little blue loading circle next to it blinking over and over.

Hello! Since the most recent build of W-10 (9879), my caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights do not function on either computer on which I have W-10 installed (a desktop with a USB keyboard and a laptop with an integrated keyboard). The keys still work to correctly toggle the functionality, but the keyboard lights don't work. In case it matters, my keyboard's actual backlights and my mouse's internal light (not the laser, the internal LED) are working correctly, it's just the CL, NL, and SL indicators that don't function.

Anyone have any ideas for fixing this?

alright.. so windows decided to update today, I chose reboot and update, and now, its stuck on the lock screen...

help please? urgently needed.

Answer:stuck on lock screen after updates

update time.

launched vaio care, did a refresh..

refresh worked, but I noticed a problem on getting my lock screen again.

I had selected, as the app to display a live feed on the lock screen, the inbuilt windows weather app.

theres no live feed.

I enter my password, log into the start screen...and notice another problem.

the windows 8 nook pc app isnt displaying any of the live updates that threw me the first time I used it(was expecting either a green N or a nook..got live feeds of just in, my books etc), no, instead its giving me 'nook' in the same exact color scheme my nook color does on boot..

then I tap on the skype app, it not only wants an update, but that self same update wont install...

so.. since I'm leery of system restore(bad experiences on xp, vista and win7) I chose to zero out the machine with a reset, return it to factory specs.

going to do it all over again.. not that I'd gotten very far past loading firefox and panda cloud antivirus.. mostly spent two days screwing with it and learning the OS.

*frustrated tone* anyone else here have bad experiences with win8's update and refresh functions frakking them over?

Reinstalled pretty much all of the drivers, no effect.Any ideas? Is this thing already broken?

well, SOMETHING is broken.. though it would seen unlikely it is hardware.. a question: did you load anything new just before this happened..?anything at all..scanner drivers or printer drivers or a new application..? OH!, welcome to the lenovo community..!

Good afternoon,

I just did a clean install of 7 to fix errors with my laptop, and it fixed one, but not the other main issues,
My caps lock, and number lock button on the keyboard don't have a light on it and the pop up that is supposed to pop up doesn't show up on screen.
I figured by doing a clean install it would all magically appear again... I was wrong, I have tweaked everything I could think of looking/trying to change setting from the keyboard in control panel, (including messing around with ease of use) and Gateways so called "support" area was of no help, as well as googling the issue has led me down a path of useless tips, I have also looked on this forum for help.

Any help in this area would be GREATLY appreciated!!

To know more about this, you can refer to the link below:http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30035/~/no-num-lock-and-caps-lock-indicator If you are using Windows 7, you can check if following the steps below helps:1. Locate and double-click "Caps Lock" and select the option "Display Caps Lock status on screen". Click "Finish".6. Follow Step 5 for Nums Lock as well. Hope this will resolve your issue.

Lenovo Y720 So, when I hit caps ock or num lock an on screen display tells me whether capslock or num ock has been pushed. While I appreciate it is helpful for some, in my case it become a hinderance. You need to remove "num lock" for single key print screen request, and if I have a short time frame, I am stuck without being able to screenshot until the num lock indicator goes away.  How do I turn off the on screen display.  Now, before you send me to the previously asked questions of similar nature, I have tried. There is no "display settings" in Control Panel. There is no "advanced display settings" on the settings panel. And there is no way to control it through NVIDIA or Intel graphics settings (that I can see).  Thanks kindly.

I just had a "Critical Update" and updated to 10.0.12562.84 - everything more or less seemed to go okay. Left it on and charging over night... go to grab my phone this morning and I wake it up, enter my pin, and....... nothing. it stays on the screen with the PIN with the 6 digits entered. if I let it sit long enough it just goes back to sleep - waking it up asks for the PIN again. I can't even connect it to WP for Mac. Help?

Answer:Phone stuck on lock screen - enter PIN and then nothing?

I had the same problem. I overtried to enter the PIN and I finally ended flashing my phone back to 8.1 but of course you can hard reset it. I heard the best way to fix this is to let the phone sit for a few hours then try again, that way it might work again

For some time now, i have been experiencing that my Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking) all at the same time, I tried to google it but i can not find any solutions or explanations for it.

Does anyone know if it is bad? and what is causing this?

I am having a wired keyboard with nothing fancy just a standard issue Logitech keyboard.

Answer:Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking)

Can you toggle those functions off, one at a time? Sometimes restarting the computer will use the last state it was in, I'd fully shut down and pull the power cord from the computer and the keyboard cable then put them back and try again.

I'm using an HP Pavilion dv6000 Notebook series. I noticed that my Caps Lock LED is not working but its FUNCTION is working fine.. same goes with Scroll Lock. Here's the weird part.. when I press Num Lock ( function key + scroll lock ) the LED turns on! I already tried a system recovery, it didn't solve the issue. Is there something wrong with my BIOS? Any help from you guys will be highly appreciated.. thanks!

Answer:Caps lock & Scroll Lock LEDs not working but Num Lock is wor...

Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly.  Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then try updating your BIOS.  If neither works...It's pretty much dead and not worth fixing.  To Perform A Hard Reset Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds)Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

I tried everything to reset the store app and everything so last resort I went for a reset. And its all grand reset no problem, completed everything and reset but now I'm stuck at the lock screen. Obviously the driver's for the mouse ain't installed now because I can't slide the lock screen up to enter the login. So what do I do now?? Anyone out there with some help for me?

Ok I've been suffering this issue with Windows 10 for as long as I can remember, and it's stopping me using it as the primary OS.

In short I have two, intermittent issues which nothing I do seems to resolve.

1: After waking up from sleep and typing my username password and hitting return, the screen goes black. Cursor moves, Windows + P operates (Screen options do appear from the right) but doesn't actually make any difference, and I'm stuck having to hard reset because ctrl alt del doesn't work either. This isn't an every time issue, hence googling seems to fail miserably because all the examples are people getting it every time. This, for me, is a 3 in 10 regularity.

2: Logging a user off occasionally sees the lock screen ... locking up. Ironically. Mouse moves, and power button DOES work but that's all that works.

These issues are plaguing me and I just cannot fix them - endless googling has left me empty handed, and I've tried disabling SLI. No help. I've tried disabling apps. No help. Nothing I do makes any difference and event viewer doesn't seem to reveal anything useful either.

Anyone got any idea how I can resolve this?

Hi All.

I have a new one installed Lenovo T450s with Windows 10 Entreprise.
I have joined the machine into a domain without some active GPO.
When I'm at home or sitting at a customer and must unlock the screen, it takes a war! It is as if searching for the DNS server for my AD domain as my PC is a member of.
In Windows 7 or Windows 8 there is no problem.
This is not a problem in Windows 7 or Windows 8.
Some have suggestions?

Thank you

Hello fellows,
Yesterday I set my Bulgarian keyboard layout to be the default one and my German to be the secondary. Then I shut down and today when I tried to log in, only the Bulgarian layout was enabled (Cyrillic letters) and I can't switch to the German layout (Latin letters). You guessed it - my password uses Latin chars . The key combinations Alt+Shift or Win+Space are not working. Password reset works only with pre-made passdisk or something like that (I haven't set one). I tried going to Troubleshoot mode, but couldn't find anything helpful there yet. Running the command prompt troubleshooting option gave me the opportunity to change the keyboard layout, enter my password and use the cmd prompt. There I tried to use the "control" command to set the keyboard layouts but it doesn't recognise the "control" command. Maybe I have to navigate somewhere else (default was system32).
I would greatly appreciate any help

Thank you

I have read through numerous posts and questions regarding this issue with no found solution. My computer is relatively brand new and yet I cannot get it allow the screen to rotate. Not only does it not recognize when i fold my computer over but even when I manually go to press tablet mode i cannot press screen rotation. The screen rotation button in the action center is greyed out so I cannot press it at all. I have tried:Going through the control panel and selecting "Allow the screen to auto-rotate"It automatically unselects it after a while and still won't rotate for the short time that it shows it is allowing it. (yes I hit Apply and OK) Going through System Settings: The "Lock rotation of this display" is set to "on" and will not allow me to change it. Going through regedit and setting the screen rotation to "1" Updating and restarting the laptop. Answer:Lenovo W510 scroll lock stuck - no scroll lock key

Hi, Anton8

I did some research and found this document from Microsoft that may help. If Scroll Lock is turned on, but there is no Scroll Lock on your keyboard, then you may want to try using the On-Screen Keyboard and see if it is enabled there, There is also a setting on the status bar that should allow you to disable it.

Hope it helps,Adam

I Have WinXP Pro Sp2. Running Zone Alarm Pro v6, Eset NOD32 v2.5, Webroot Spysweeper (for coookies and alt scans), Spyware Doctor v.3.2.1.359 (resident), and Trojan Hunter v4 (also resident on boot). I am also booting and browsing with Pop-Up Stopper Pro. My Hardware? Abit NF7-S rev.2, Athlon 3200 Barton core, Best OCZ 400Mhz RAM (?) - 1Gb in dual channel, Audigy 4 Pro for sound. Latest drivers for all "to best of my knowledge" Any Helpers? :)

*More on the file tranfer lock-ups. The two other drives are Seagate drives and identicle. They're 300 Gb each... I have not reformated them since my last Windows reinstall - they were detected right off.

Could be Windows isnt seeing those drives for what they are?? Even worse, a bus problem?

Not a techie.  Can't get straight answer ANYWHERE.  New laptops tend to NOT have indicators on the keys.  Hoping Windows 10 has indicators that can be turned on and PROBABLY would show up in the tray at the bottom right of the screen.
I have heard of sites where such things can be downloaded but again NOT a techie, so I hesitate to go outside of Windows/Microsoft for downloads.  I do not know what download sites are safe or spoofs.

Please plain English ... i.e. go to settings etc.  Or just give me a Microsoft approved site for download.

I have followed this tutorial to have my account lock after 15 minutes, and it does not work. The account stays open for as long as the computer is on, which is extremely frustrating. This is the biggest thing I hate about Windows 8. Why has this important security/privacy feature been overlooked?

If anyone has a different solution to this, I'd love to learn about it.

Answer:Lock screen timeout does not work

Hello Knocks, and welcome to Eight Forums.

That tutorial is for setting how many minutes Windows 8 will wait idle with no activity when the computer is already locked before timing out and automatically turning off the display instead.

For what you want, you could set screen saver to the "(None)" or "blank" screen saver, check the "On resume, display logon screen" box, and set the "Wait" time to 15 minutes.

Hi guys. Recently bought my second Y2P, this one second hand. Reason being my previous one was the 4GB i5 model, this one is the 8GB i7 Now I've noticed a few things when I compare them. Firstly, and most annoyingly, the screen on this one is significantly dimmer than on my previous one. When I put it it max brightness it's only a little brighter than half way on my older one. When I put the brightness all the way down the screen turns off... I''ve already disabled auto dim in the battery settings, windows setting AND intel graphics control panel so I'm sure it's not down to that. I'm running the updated BIOS on both the systems also. This is unbelievably frustrating. Another annoying thing is that the CAPS lock indicator light is always on. Apart from when I press a button, it turns off whilst anything is being pressed (on the keyboard). It does this as soon as the machine is switched on. BIOS setting have been reverted to standard etc and nothing seems to be fixing any of it. I have also done a full reset of the machine on numerous occasions. Nothing. One last niggle is that I've noticed that the touchpad is ever so slightly sunk in (something that I probably only noticed because I have another yoga to compare it to) and there is some play in the touchpad which I would have noticed this regardless. Is it time to contact Lenovo warranty team?  Sorry for the long post, and I'd really appreciate any advice!

Answer:Y2P dim screen, caps lock indicator stuck on. Already disabled adaptive brighness... Warranty?

Just to keep the thread updated in case by any chance someone has similar problems... I've contacted Lenovo who are saying it's likely a motherboard issue, I'll be getting a letter with details of how to arrange a courier to collect the system within the next few days. I'll let y'all know what comes of it!

How do I remove the Caps and Num Lock indictor for a Lenovo G50, that is running Windows 10?

Answer:Remove Caps lock/Num lock indicator? (Windows 10)

Hi Thisismyname01 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

On a similar G50 , this was resolved by uninstalling Energy Management .

Another steps that was advised :

1. Opening Control Panel >Program and Features>Uninstall a Program and look for Caps OSD or Lenovo OSD

2. On the display properties of the graphic card , you may also configure to "Show indicator for a few seconds" .

3. Disable hotkeys from the BIOS ( but this may change all other usable hotkeys ) . Lets's reserve it a last option.

Update us what works for you.

Hi! So, I've upgraded to Windows 8 RTM this weekend and I'm having this problem: Every time I boot the PC (shutdown or restart), the Num Lock key is off. Since my password uses numbers, and I'm pretty used to type it with Num Lock, I'd like to keep it always on. It was fine on Windows 7. Now, I've searched for it, and there is the "InitialKeyboardIndicators" key on regedit. I have changed values for all of them to "2", and it didn't work. My BIOS say to keep it always on. Is there anything else that I'm missing?

Answer:Num Lock always activated on lock screen

Netplwiz, or tap num lock before starting password entry.

Besides those, you can check to make sure keyboard is plugged in directly to motherboard instead of add-on card or something.

I have a issue here. My window 10 lock screen background image used to be on slide show mode but today it fails and it keeps showing me the same background image by window default.
I believe it is a registry error because I checked all possible cause except the registry part because I don't know where to check from. Or I could missed out some places.
Any solutions provided will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

I did an upgrade from Win 7 , and Screen Saver / Turn off display after 5 mins was working under Win 7 64 bit
As my title suggest Screen Saver / Lock screen Slideshow / Turn off display after 5 mins are not working under Win 10
The Lock screen Slideshow is there when Win 10 starts but only shows ONE image, never moves to another.
THINGS I've done so far to get any of these working ...Screen Saver / Lock screen Slideshow / Turn off display after 5 mins
I’ve turned off all the Wake on lan functions
Tried different folder/ images for the lockscreen Slideshow ,window spotlight and picture
Tried to set new power options , was able to get SLEEP to show up in "Start" as it was not there before, but once click , the display DID turn off, but wouldn’t turn back on with mouse movement keyboard presses, had to do a hard reboot. Win 10 started without issue and the SLEEP mode was no longer aviable via the power "start" menu.
Anyone have a clue how to get all of these working. Really would like my display to turn off after 5 mins , and the Screen saver to work , the Lockscreen I'm not fussed about

Can anyone tell me how to eliminate the lock screen preview and bypass the 'Sign In' button on the lock screen?

I often put my computer to sleep then to bring it back (in Windows 7) I would simply hit the space bar and turn on my mouse and it would go straight to my desktop. Now, I hit the space bar turn on my mouse, and it takes me to the lock screen preview then I hit the space bar and it takes me to a lock screen where I have to click 'Sign In' even though I have no password set.

I'm guessing I'll no longer be able to hit the spacebar, turn on my mouse and go directly to the desktop but if I can hit the spacebar, turn on the mouse, then hit the space bar one last time, that would be satisfactory.

I've tried searching through the forum but can't see anyone who has a similar issue.

I can access the lock screen settings and I can see all available apps and have set a detailed status app and a couple of less detailed ones. However, when I actually get to the lock screen after having set the apps to appear, there is nothing but the time and date and WiFi in bottom-right corner.

Could this be because I am logging in locally rather than using a MS account?

I have an x61t that when it locks for screen saver password and you have to CTRL ALT Delete the relog back on. the CAPS lock on the onscreen keyboard indicates on but it's not. 1. Log into the tablet.2. The screensaver would lock the tablet.3. Press Ctrl Alt Delete to get to the logon screen.4. The on screen keyboard would show the Caps Lock key as on but it wasn't. If they pressed the Caps Lock key it would then be on.5. The users don't press the Caps Lock key now, even though it is being displayed as on, and they can logon OK. I cannot recreate this problem on another X61tablet and this behaviour happens even when the notebook is in a docking station with an external keyboard.  anybody seen this error before?

Hey all. I have a Thermaltake V5000D case that has a lock on the front panel. One day I was just fiddling with the lock, turning the key back and forth (fidgeting problem I have sometimes), then it just stopped turning with the lock in the locked position and now my front panel is locked shut! I am very thankful that the the door wasn't latched or I wouldn't be able to get to the on/off button and my optical drives and stuff. But my front panel is still locked and I cant get to my fan filter. Also, my door wont latch shut because the metal latch on the lock is in the way of it closing all the way. This is very annoying and is going to suck when I have to move my tower around with the door swinging away.

I've tried turning the key in every position possible with every amount of force in my hand. I actually bent the crap out of one of my keys and cant completely straighten it out now. I've tried picking it and examined it with a flashlight for any obstructions in the hole. The next thing I can think of is mabye WD-40 on it because it seems the little levers in the lock are getting stuck when the key pushes them in and they dont come back down on top of the key. But I would like to ask you guys to see if anyone has ever had this problem and/or if you have any ideas to fix it. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Help! PC Case lock is stuck! Door is stuck shut!

Love to help but sadly thermaltakes website is not helpfull in schematics or decent pics of the area of the lock.... only thoughts I have are can you take the side panel off on the side nearest the lock and see if you can force the hook up? ( doesnt look like you can from another pic I searched for as the front panel is too flush to the side )

If you can from the inside of th ecase see the back of the lock its latch-hook is only attached by a big screw from the looks of it and if you could unscrew it you would get access to the front I have no doubt.

the pics I was looking at http://www.3dxtreme.net/index.php?id=thermaltakexvdv5000d2 ( 8th one down )

Sadly appart from a locksmith, this is the only suggestions I have at present.

Check the settings of your keyboard. The Roccat is designed to disable those keys. You have them set to be ignored.

I really have no clue what keeps causing this issue as it's random but usually while watching media. On my desktop the screen seems to always go to an off white and the audio just sticks with the keyboard becoming unresponsive and the reset button not working. I have to hard reset it (press and hold the power button for it to shut off). If streaming to my living room it's screen goes an off black semi gray with just stuck audio.

I just don't get what to look for in event viewer or where to look. Using the reliability tool I was showing that the Corsair link software stopped unexpected so I have had that shut off from running thinking it was causing this problem. Apparently not.
This time the reliability viewer just showed that Windows wasn't shut down properly and that's it.

"The previous system shutdown at 7:32:59 AM on ?5/?31/?2017 was unexpected."

Drivers are updated for everything current but the GPU. I'm running a more stable and newest WHQL driver for the GPU although my damn windows keep resizing smaller after I power on my monitor after it sits over night or while I'm gone during the day. Annoying as hell. This didn't used to be a problem but has become one recently. 17.2.1 is the version I'm on.

You didn't mention if you were overclocking anything. If you are, stop. Put everything to default and test. Also, can you monitor your temps?

I was on my Y560 Model 0646 checking my email and the computer shut off on me.  I went to turn it back on and it does not turn on.  The caps lock and number lock light up.  Blue tooth, Battery, and Video status all light up above keyboard in status area.  None of the fans are going, and it does not sound like anything is running.  I tried removing the power and battery and pressing power button a few times.  Also tried to remove power and battery and holding down power and nothing.  It's almost like it freezes.  I can push the mute button and it lights up, but then cannot turn it off.  Please help.  Laptop just went out of warranty last month.

Answer:Y560 will not turn on. Caps Lock and Number lock light up but not fans or boot

I'm guessing it is because of the motherboard. Since it is out of warranty can a Y560 motherboard be purchased anywhere? Any ideas? Please help.

While following instructions in manual, it tells me I need a lock code. Where can I find it?
"Lock Mode
When the phone is in Lock Mode, restrictions are placed on phone use. You can
receive calls and messages, but cannot place outgoing calls (except for emergency
numbers) until you unlock the phone. Lock Mode also restricts access to menus and
the volume key. Your phone’s Lock Code is required. To access Lock settings:
From standby mode, press Menu ? Settings ? Phone Settings ? Security ? Lock

Answer:SAMSUNG R451c Lock Mode Cannot find my phone’s Lock Code.

Isn't it a (4 digit?) code that you create yourself, or is there a default code already set?

My Toshiba satellite c650d seems to have power...the on button is green. The screen is black, the numbers and caps lock lights are on and wont go off. The disk drive makes the usual booting up noise but that is all she does. Ive unplugged and removed the battery and that did nothing. I cant even turn it off with the on/off button to remove that battery and then turn it on again. I removed and reinserted the memory (both) and I can't take the hard drive out, its held in by a screw. Is my "friend" dead?

If, as it sounds, it is booting up but not ever displaying anything on the screen, check the cable between the motherboard and the screen. It might just be one of the connectors (at either end) has worked loose. With the computer well booted up, move the screen gently down to nearly closed. If you ever see anything on the screen then it could be the cable is faulty where it hinges.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I have a Ideapad Y560P that shut down suddenly and when we tried to turn it back on, the Caps Lock and Num Lock (on F8 key) lights go on but the computer does not start. I saw a similar thread from 2010 but there was no resolution. I assume that the two lights on at the same time at attempted start indicate some kind of "fault" condition in the computer. I have not been able to get the bios to start so that I could run diagnostics. I pulled the battery and held down power for 30 seconds, pressed start twice, put the battery back in but still won't start. I pulled memory out, trying to get a POST "beep" error but that didn't occur. I put memory back in one dimm at a time. I pulled the Hard Drive out and put it in an external enclosure and was able to extract the information to another laptop so I'm pretty sure I didn't have a hardware Hard Drive failure. Other than the one reference in this forum I haven't seen any information about this kind of, what I assume is a, hardware failure. I assume that Lenovo has some kind of guide that tells them what the lights mean. The computer was about six months out of warrenty when it failed. I called Lenovo to attempt to extend the warranty but they won't once it is out of warranty. Looking for some idea of what failed, whether it is worth getting one of Lenovo's listed companies that repair laptops to look at it and fix the problem.

Answer:G580 - Fn + F6 to lock/unlock touchpad doesn't work with Windows 10

I have the same problem. Untilthey update the ELAN driver I go in to Settings, Devices, Mouse and Touchpad, Additional Mouse Options and disabel  the ELAN driver. You can still turn it back on with Fn F6, but you have to go through the same steps again to turn it off. The nice thing is, it doesn't go back to enabled after awhile when you havent' been using the laptop.for awhile as it did before. The bad side is it takes about half a dozen key strokes to get to he disable. Hope this helps for now.

I like dual monitors though I usually just dump something on my secondary and don't need to access it with a cursor for long periods of time. It's kind of a pain having the mouse constantly jump ship when you move it slightly too far on file menus and chrome tabs

I have searched some applications.
Dual Monitor Tool's "Swap Screen" keeps not working. The program Cursor lock I had trouble getting working at all and it is application based.

What do people use to lock a cursor to a monitor?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:New to dual screens: Cursor Lock to Monitor?

I have never heard of locking cursor to 1 monitor, been using dual screens for years now be interesting to hear the answer to this, my suggestion, just be more patient as it really is not that bad to have cursor on other monitor, myself I have the issue of using TS and my back button going back on explorer unless I get it out of focus then no problems

At some point the caps lock got stuck on - the light showed. I worked out that I could use the shift key if I wanted to use lower case. Then I found that when starting up the computer the cursor was stuck at the same time, I used CTRL ALT DEL to unstick it.

Occasionally the caps lock would randomly unstick. I now have a situation where it comes on alot and if I jiggle the button it goes back to normal for a short time. When the caps lock light comes on again the cursor sticks every time...this happens every few seconds.

Wierdly it is not happening now but it does on Facebook - alot.

Any ideas anyone. (I have tried going to the settings and changing the keyboard settings. It worked for a short time and no longer does. Could this be a virus?

Thanks for reading

I have a Satellite C660 which was working fine this morning. When I returned from work and powered it on, the entire keyboard is not working and therefore cannot enter my login details.
The Num lock and Caps lock are lit.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Answer:Satellite C660 - keyboard is not working but Num lock and Caps lock are lit

Hi

Are you able to disable the CapsLock and NumLock?
Can you access the BIOS pressing F2 while powering up the unit?

If this does not work, I would recommend checking an external USB keyboard.
If the USB keyboard would functions, then this means that the internal keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.
