Windows 8 winload.exe digital signature not verified

Question: Windows 8 winload.exe digital signature not verified

When I go to Windows 8 from my Windows 7 boot loader it doesn't boot it just goes to winload.exe signature could not be verified.

As you can see from the video Windows 8 DOESN'T boot but Windows XP and 7 does boot fine (didn't show Windows 7 bcs I didn't want to make the video long)

Preferred Solution: Windows 8 winload.exe digital signature not verified

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows 8 winload.exe digital signature not verified

I got it working by somehow setting windows 8 as an Active Partition and re configuring the MBR or bcd or something like that.

Hi There,

I cloned my smaller SSD to my larger SSD I just purchased so I can relieve my space issue. The problem is that during the clone, I replaced my /boot/ and attempting to boot from the new drive gives me Winload.exe has a digital signature that cannot be verified

I have tried all typical startup repairs, fixing MBR, editing the BCD directly and adding a Windows 7 record on this drive, no luck.

The original drive has since been replaced with Win10 and I cannot re-clone.

I am thinking that the primary issue is that by copying the /boot/ section of my original drive, I replaced winload.exe and the fingerprint/'digital signature' does not match the new SSD, but the old.

Therefore, is there a way to generate a new winload.exe using the signature from this bigger drive?

Other than that, I'm thinking of installing Win7 again on the second half of my new SSD and taking the Winload.exe that is created there and copying that back to my cloned partition, would that work?

Really dying to get back into Win7, and doing a fresh install is not an option for me as I really need the Windows configuration and installed programs to work.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Answer:Cloned OS --> Winload.exe digital signature cannot be verified

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Sounds like you upgraded the install to win-10 and are trying to use the same upgraded install
That is not exactly legal and is in violation of the free upgrade agreement

A more reliable method would of been to use a system image and restore the image to the new ssd.
Still not legal to use both though.

I want to dual boot windows 7 and windows 10.

I have windows 7 installed on my C drive. (disk manage image attached)

Win 10 (D drive) where I want to install windows 10.

IN installation process:
"Getting files ready for installation" completes about 25% and then it reboots and shows the error.

In boot option I have
1) Windows setup
2) Windows 7

When I click on option 1(setup), it shows the error and setup cannot from that point progress.

I have no problem booting and running windows 7(option 2).

Answer:winload.exe digital signature cannot be verified error code:0xc0000428

Hmm, maybe the logical partition causes a problem. (You can install on a logical as long as boot files are on primary as far as I know but who knows ).

Is the iso in good shape? Any memory issues?

So, when I started my laptop this morning I got the error:

"A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged....... error 0xc0000428."

I hit 'Enter' and it takes me to the screen to select an OS and the only one available is Windows 7 Home Premium. I can either hit F8 to supposedly select advanced options or enter to boot Windows 7. There are NO tools listed or boot options listed like there normally is. I'm just able to hit 'enter' or F8 and both of them take me back to that orignal error screen. Basically, I'm stuck in a loop between those two.

I tried my Windows 7 recovery CD but it still just takes me to these two screens and I can't get out of it.

I have searched other forums and threads and there is help for this issue, but everyone is able to use their recovery CD and I cannot.

Answer:winload.exe digital signature not verified & boot manager loop

Boot from Windows 7 recovery CD. Then select "command prompt". Where is bootmgr file?

attrib c:\bootmgr
attrib d:\bootmgr
attrib e:\bootmgr

Is it on C,D or E? Assume on E

Code:

attrib -s -h e:\bootmgr
del e:\bootmgr
Now perform a "startup repair"

I've installed Win 7 on my Laptop. But when I launch (without booting from Bootable USB), it gives me an error:
File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
Status: 0xc0000428
Info: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.

The problem is when I boot from my Bootable USB it acts normal. Like nothing is wrong. It's just normal Windows 7 like I'm used to.

I searched on other topics but it seems that everyone issue is fixed by using the bootrec using the bootable DVD. Although I can't access that since I'm using an USB AND when I boot using my USB it's acting normal.

I recently installed another Windows to my computer.
It works and boot, but the older Windows can't boot and gives an error of

"\Windows\System32\winload.exe" cannot be trusted because of its digital signature.

It tells me to go to F8, but when I press F8, it goes back to error screen of winload.exe.

I tried start up repair options with both disks (I have two disks in the computer), but start up repair was just messing up the boot. After several times of repairs, I came back to the boot screen, can boot to the new.

Is there any way that I can solve this?

Thanks.

However F8 doesn't work, just back to the boot menu. I tried repairing by w8 OS disc (automatically and with few commands which i found), but that just recover vista - on w8 still shows the same. I tried also by adding entry with visualbcd, but it still shows this problem.

Opps, there is no Disk Mgmnt screen shot attached and .. the screen shot you did attach does not show an error, only the install percent complete. These things happen.

Since you're just beginning, it might be more expedient to start over.
See: Windows 10 - Dual Boot with Windows 7 or Windows 8 - Windows 10 Forums

I would delete the D: partition, leaving it raw/unallocated, and let Windows manage it during the install.
Be careful - only the D partition.

I need some help with a Windows 7 (x64) system where bluetooth and usb devices have suddenly stopped working. When I go into device manager I see that my Intel USB 3.0 extensible host controller and my Intel Wireless Bluetooth show exclamations
on them. They both report that "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device".

This machine has been working fine for a while but suddenly stopped working correctly earlier this week.  So far I have uninstalled recently installed MS patches. I installed the most current version of the drivers from Intel for these devices.
I've also ran sigcheck against both drivers and confirmed that they are signed.

As a work around, I use F8 and boot with driver signing verification turned off but that is certainly not ideal as I have to remember to do so every time the computer is restarted. Anyone have suggestions for a permanent fix?

Today my computer crashed and refused to boot back up. I have windows 7 home premium 64bit. I bought it from Newegg and my warranty is now expired. It came with an OEM version of windows and it did NOT come with any repair/recovery disks. When it attempted to automatically repair itself it failed and it said that the CI.dll was corrupt. I searched for solution and found none that would work, from antivirus programs to infinite loops. I searched for hours and found this thread http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...al-file-4.html I followed the instructions on the last page, using Puppy Linux on a disk to boot up and replace the CI.dll with the file in the link. I then did the following as instructed

1) Type in: bootrec.exe /fixmbr
2) Then type in: del C:\boot\bcd
3) Then type in: bootrec.exe/rebuildbcd

The commands went in fine and I was prompted by the last one on whether or not to add the installation to boot. I said yes. (Perhaps a mistake?) The commands were all entered smoothly and I received no error messages. I restarted my computer and received the error code 0xc0000428 refering to the C:\Windows\system32\winload.exe it said the the signature could not be verified. Now I can NOT even get to the repair page, CMD, or Safe mode. It will not load at all, and the screen will jump back and forth between the error page and the Boot Manager page, the latter of which only has one option "windows 7 home premium."

Hello,

I am using a new surface (Christmas gift) and trying to install windows messenger and i receive the following "windows cannot verify the digital signature"

I tried looking for updates several times but comes back system is up to date.

any suggestions?

Answer:windows 8 cannot verify the digital signature

when you are speaking of windows messenger, can you be a little more clear? are you referring to live messenger? the default messenger (which should've already been installed)?

note that the Surface RT device runs Windows RT which is the operating system for ARM processors. It cannot run Windows 8 software which runs on x86/x64 processors. The software you can use with the Surface RT is any application that's available in the Windows Store and the ones already installed on the device like Microsoft Office 2013.

Since Windows RT cannot run x86/x64 software, you can't download Windows 8 software (or any older traditional Windows 7 or earlier software) through a web browser and install. You are restricted to Windows Store as well as some sideloading options.

I ran rkill to check of problems with my system XP/SP3. The file mqac.sys does no have a valid digital signature. I have 6 copies of this file on my system from past sp's. how do  determine which one to use as a replacement? How do I check to see if it is signed, and if it is do I just swap them out?

Have already cleaned system, getting rid of old files, cleaning the registry, I.e. a deep cleaning to speed up my system and clear up problems. I have no malware or virus' that Avast and several other scan tools and detect.

Answer:no digital signature on mqac.sys in %windows%\system32\drivers

from what I can gather, mqac.sys is part of the message queing system (MSMQ) that is not part of a standard XP install, but is a free add-on (at least for XP Pro) if you wanted to install it. It might be part of something called 'Snap Desktop' (which I also don't have)

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/snap_desktop_msmq.mspx?mfr=true

Does this sound like something that you would have installed on your machine?

If so, I doubt that it's malware, even though there are multiple copies without signatures. I'm pretty sure I have a few Windows system files that aren't signed.

Unless you think they are harmful, I would just leave them be- don't fix what ain't broke.

Answer:0xc0000428 Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.

If you want to install windows in two different HDDs, remove one and install on the other one.

Same for Startup repair. If you want to startup repair on one, remove the other HDD and run startup repair.

Otherwise, there is a fair chance that the bootloader will be messed up.

Now what you should do.

Remove the Seagate HDD. Boot into Seageat one. What do you find there? The WD one is not booting up? Follow it:

Have you performed a chkdsk on volume c:? If not, follow these instructions

Place your windows cd in the cd rom and boot to it. (You may need to change the boot sequence in the BIOS.)

1. Boot off of a Windows XP CD. Press R to get to the recovery console.

2. Press 1 to log onto Windows then press Enter. You will need the administrative password to get into to command prompt. If the administrator password was blank press enter.

3. Type: chkdsk /r

4. When the disk check is done type: Exit

5. Take the Windows XP CD out. Windows should start normally.

Please post your findings

I have my machine setup with the boot loader, although I only have Windows 7 installed. In the boot loader I have an entry for Windows Memory Diagnostic as a tool.

Although I am able to boot into Windows 7 without any problem, if I select Windows Memory Diagnostic, I receive the error: "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file."

Error code: 0xc0000428

File: \boot\memtest.exe

I once used a Windows 7 recovery disk to recover from an error [required device is inaccessible]. Although my booting issue was repaired, I suspect that the digital signature for this memtest.exe may have been corrupted... I'm not sure when this happened since I do not use the Memory Diagnostic regularly.

I do not think my C:\ drive is failing as it passes CHKDSK and the SMART characteristics are all perfect.

Therefore, I'd like to know how I can correct the digital signature problem for the memtest file. My system is functional as-is, but it would be nice to be able to use the Memory Diagnostic at boot.

Thanks for any help!

Good day everyone!

I recently noticed that my graphics for Fallout 3 are quite choppy and particle effects are pixelated, so I went and checked for new drivers for my ATI radeon 5570. I downloaded the auto detect driver utility on AMD's website and downloaded the appropriate package for my Windows. I follow their installation guide to upgrade from older drivers and launch the "Express install" option.

My problems starts here, I get a 50/50 chance that, while installing the display driver, the screen goes black and flash a couple of times followed by a BSOD (I don't have the details it disappear too fast ). The other half is that the drivers will go past the screen going black and flashing, but the display is set to 800 x 600 (the basic resolution). I restart the computer only to find that I cannot ajust the display past 1024 x 768 on my 1920 x 1080 supporting monitor. Going inside the driver manager -> displays, reveal that my 5570 is not working (the exclamation mark icon is visible) and that "windows cannot verify digital signature[...] Error code 52"

I've searched all over the internet for people with a similar problem but found nothing to help me. If anything, I've found that other windows machine with seven are able to install this particular driver without a code 52. For now i've rolled back to the old settings that worked before.

Can anyone assist? I'm running out of ideas.

Cheers!

Absolutely I face problem with driver signature after formatting my laptop on the same edition of Windows 7 Home Premium x64, the problem is Windows fails to verify the signature of MT65xx Preloader driver!
It was working fine before formatting and I only face this problem after format, but in the last time before formatting, I installed updates from Windows Update, so this time I can't install any update because of Windows Update is keep searching and doesn't

No F8 boot menu and "Windows 8 cannot verify the digital signature for winload.exe"

Trying to test win 8 enterprise on a dual boot system with win 7.

Hello,

A Dell laptop hand-me-down fails to boot. Windows XP was upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. OS disc(s) are not available. I tried using a Windows 7 Upgrade 32bit DVD boot disc to attempt a system repair. Now, the winload.exe seems to lack a digital signature. Is there a way to make this laptop boot again?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
I first started with:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
Repair your computer

Status: 0xc000000e
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I ran this article:
Use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows
bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, I have:
File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
Status: 0xc0000428
Info: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file

Thank you for any help!

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T440 (20B6005RUS) running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit with service pack 1. The audio drivers stopped working. Device Manager has 2 sound devices, High Definition Audio Device and Realtek High Definition Audio.  To get the drivers/sound to work I have to press F8 and disable the driver signature enforcement. I went on Realtek's website and tried their drivers. They did not work. I was told a Windows update caused the audio driver to stop working. I uninstalled both devices with their drivers and hoped Microsoft's own audio driver would install but a driver is not found. Is there any solution I can try? Should I try a different audio driver? I appreciate anyone's help. Attached is a screenshot of what I get in Device Manager.

Hey there,

I have an M11x laptop and I've frustratingly been trying to figure out how to turn off Window 7 Home Edition's digital driver signature check when I try installing drivers for my new Numark Virtual Vinyl product. It says it can't install because it doesn't recognize the signature. I went online to do some research and apparently Numark has released the 64 bit drivers (I have 64 bit Windows 7) as a beta version; however, I've seen other people on forums have success with installing the drivers to their 64 bit by holding down F8 when they restart their Windows 7, which will bring up a boot options to where you can turn off this feature.

When I try holding down F8 on mine, it just BEEPS really loud at me and won't bring up an menu and then just goes through it's regular startup. I do have an F12 option which will bring up boot options but there's no option via that method to turn off the digital signature check. After this didn't work, I also tried another method I read about via google where you could disable the check by putting in a code in the cmd window putting your computer into 'safe mode', which I tried as well and still had no success with this method either!

Are there any tech wizards out there who would know how to disable Windows from doing a driver sig check on these particular drivers? (Numark Virtual Vinyl 64 bit drivers)

PLease please if so, drop me a line! I really want to use my product!

Answer:[SOLVED] Windows 7 Home Edition Digital Driver Signature Check! Ugh! How to turn it o

Then the drive works but only for one session until shutting down or until putting it in standby. On wake up or start without the solution it will not find the DVD drive.Unfortunatelly support hotline wants me to send maschines in after remoting into it and I do not see a sense to do so. Hey guys, I just got a copy of xp service pack 2 with the following digital signature
5.5.1005.0 (SRV03_QFE.031113-0918)

I'm running xp professional and the update was released today for us.

It's tempting to install this version, is this version the same as the one thats being released today (8/25/04)?

Note: I'm also on dialup so I would have to wait until school starts in 2 weeks to download the update.

How can we obtain digital signature for the existing application ? Is it neccessary for running it on Windows Vista? What is SignTool and where can I find it?

Answer:Digital Signature.

You'd have to ask the company who developed the application. I haven't needed a digital signature in Vista in quite a long while. Also, I believe that they must be able to be applied to different OS's - or the signature would be worthless.

Does anyone know where I can find a digitally signed "ATI Integrated Digital Audio" driver for Vista x64 Business. The installed driver works, but only if I F8 at boot to disable signature enforcement, which is a pain whenever the system autoboots after an update. I have been living with the F8 approach since Vista was first released.

There is no information on the ATI (AMD) or HP support sites.

Driver details are as follows:

Driver Provider: ATI Technologies
Driver Date: 9/13/2006
Driver Version: 6.1.4242.1

The specific unsigned files are:
... atiwdma.sys
... LVUSBS64.sys

It is for an HP DV5000 x64

Thanks ...

Hello!
Can you tell me what is "Programs digital signature"? According to my knowledge some security software categorize programs trustworthiness using program digital signature.
How do program developer get digital signature?
Why some programs not have digital signature?

Answer:What is Program Digital Signature?

To #1 I'll clip you what Microsoft has to say about that:

Quote:
A digital signature is an electronic security mark that can be added to files. It allows you to verify the publisher of a file and helps verify that the file has not changed since it was digitally signed.
If the file doesn't have a valid digital signature, there's no way for you to be sure that the file is actually from the source it claims to be from, or that it has not been tampered with (possibly by a virus) since it was published. It's safer to avoid opening the file unless you know for certain who created it and whether the contents are safe to open.
Even a valid digital signature doesn't verify that the contents of the file are harmless. You must decide if you should trust the contents of the file based on the identity of the publisher and where you are downloading the file from.

What cracks me up about that statement: They basically say "Even if we digitally sign the file, you can't be sure if it's authentic" Doesn't that statement contradict the sense and purpose of the whole process ???

As for #2 as a dev you can submit your file to Microsoft to obtain said digital sign

As for #3 because it costs money and it takes time for your files to be processed. Sometimes the cost of the driver or program doesn't cover the licensing fees ...that together with Microsoft's statement, that even a signed file could be bogus might influence decisions not ha... Read more

Do you have to have the digital signature of your recipient to be able to successfully send them an encrypted message? Or, do you have to have that recipient saved in your 'contacts' list?

I have read the section on encryption and digital signatures in the 'Step by Step' book and it doesn't mention either of these needs. But, I have had several people tell me that I need both in order for them to open an encrypted message. I'm so confused now that I'm ready to go back to snail mail and interoffice envelopes!

Answer:Encrpytion & Digital Signature

I don't use digital signitures, but I'm sure you each need each others to encrypt. Sorry I can't help more (probably).

I posted once before months ago, but didn't get any replies.

We have to use PKI/digital sigs for one of our main clients. We send attachments and emails encrypted because they include patient name, partial social security numbers and health information about the patient.

My PKI works fine, I have been having employees get them and they work fine. My boss has trouble with his. I can send and receive from him. He is using Outlook 2003. When he gets a certificate from a client and adds it to his outlook contacts, it shows up as being his certificate and not their certificate.

We have worked and worked on this and can't figure it out. We are in seperate offices, but I am going to try to get to his office this weekend to see if I can figure it out. We got the certificates from Versign and they don't provide any support. We have read all the help pages, emailed and not gotten any help back from them.

Any ideas on what could be wrong. I am running out of things to check.

Thanks.

I had some problems with my video care, an ATI All In Wonder Radeon, so ATI told me to do a few things, which now has screwed up my display drivers. I have tried to re-install the video card, but I get the Digital Signature Notification error. It says that the driver may not have been tested by Microsoft, and wont be installed. I have tried to change the settings to warn, but it wont let me click the advanced tab, it has been greyed out. I have tried to download the drivers from the ATI web site, but they wont install properly. Is there any way to change the warn vs block settings in Windows ME?? thanks in advance kirk

Answer:Digital signature problems

Just a though

Are you logged on with username and password rather than guest or default.

Have you tried windows updated, it may offer you a video driver to temporarily correct the problem

Had trouble like that along time ago, ended up using windows update at first, finally got the advanced to warn rather than block.

Two web questions for you ladies and gents out there.

1. I want to include a couple of pdf files that open in the browser using the acrobat plug-in. Anyone know if this was broken in IE 6 I heard that they messed up a lot of plugins and wondered what the best way to do this is in html so that I include the largest majority of users out there.
2. I am creating a web-based form that used to be a pdf that applicants printed off and mailed in. Problem is they used to sign the application and mail it in. I know that there are digital signatures, but anyone that has tips and experience with something like this I'd love to hear how you managed to overcome this problem. Did you use digital signature technology or go with an alternative method?

Thanks for the help.

Answer:pdf in window and digital signature

Hi.

AFAIK the plugin for the pdf is still buggy in IE6.0. I'd be interested to hear otherwise. I've advise my clients NOT to update at this time.

As for the digital signatures.....I have one called on-sign that I use in conjunction with my PDA. However, to use it with Acrobat I need to do some fancy cut & paste from another app.

The problem with digital signatures is I'm not sure how they stand-up in court. For legal type stuff I still use the old pen & ink method. But for correspondence I don't have any problem plugging in my digital. I think you will have to check the laws in your area about such things.

Please download HijackThis http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/HijackThis.exe - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Post the hijackthis.log file here. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Some tools will catch things the others don't, due to the constant barrage of spyware. Go ahead and post all of your replies in this thread. Someone may have a similar problem to yours and may benefit from having the information out in the open.

I Think my computer is infected ( Dell Dimension 3000, Win XP) because it has gotten really slow and isn't doing what it should, so I recently subscribed to McAfee antivirus. After paying for it I had to download it but every time I try, a security warning pops up and tells me "This file was blocked because it does not have a valid digital signature that verifies it's publisher." I have gotten that same warning every time I try and download new programs and It's preventing anything from downloading. I'm not sure what to do because I need this Antivirus. It started doing this about a month ago but before that everything would download properly. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Found this MS site explaining digital signatures and Office.

"If you digitally sign a shared workbook, Excel will not retain the digital signature because more than one person can make changes to the workbook. " Not sure if this applies to your situation.

I upgraded a desktop and laptop from Vista Ultimate to Win 7 RC and have the same problem on both. I can't install programs, run msconfig, cmd, regedit, etc, because I receive a digital signature error that is supposedly related to a recent hardware or software change. I can't even edit the properties of the accounts because of this same error.

Interestingly enough on my laptop one account shows a blank programs list when you go to start-all programs, but on the other account they show up. I restored the desktop from my windows home server and will shortly do the same on the laptop if I can't figure out this problem.

Any ideas?

Hello Awraynor,

It may be a issue from the upgrade. You might see if doing a clean install of Windows 7 may work better for you instead.

Hope this helps,

Hello all, I have an issue with my CD/ DVD burner. I have a Dell laptop that had Windows 7 preloaded. All was fine until I had to load a software that I needed right away, Pinancle Studio 10. It came up that it may not be compatible. It wasnt. It would not start so I uninstalled it. Since then My CD/DVD burner does not show up. It seems that the incompatiblity had to do with Digital Signatures. So everytime I boot up, I have to F8 and Disable Digital Sinatures. Then it shows up. Any ideas on how to fix this permanently? I didnt know if this was an OS problem or Software & Hardware problem so I satarted here. Sorry if it is in the wrong area.
thanks in advance

Hi,
I have Windows XP and used the latest AVG 2011 update to scan the entire computer. I received five messages, eg: C:\windows\installer19b676msi The file is signed with a broken digital signature.

My main concern is whether I should worry about it and look for a solution or not, because this is a home computer and I alone have access, and am not part of a network.

I appreciate any help.

I hope someone can help me - or refer me somewhere for the problem I'm having this weekend. My problem is w/QuickBooks Pro 2006 version. QB Technical support isn't available until Monday morning, and I need help now.

I have a Compaq Presario 6350 computer, XP sp2, I use AVG and Ad-Aware. I have lots of memory and I'm still on dial up.

Here's my story: I was having problems w/other issues on my computer a few days ago. A friend of mine determined I needed to do a reinstall and data restore. He did back everything up to disk.

I thought everything was working perfectly and he'd really helped me out, BUT - when I tried to do payroll in QB, a message popped up saying I had to do payroll update first. It appeared to be working fine, but it was taking forever, so I knew something was wrong. Then, I got the dreaded message -- Error 15222. "The payroll update did not complete successfully. QuickBooks could not verify the digital signature within the update file."

I called my friend and he told me to insert the Backup of "important data" and look for the file I need. However, I have no idea which file I need. I did go to QB support website and followed the instructions as listed. I went to "add & remove" and followed the prompts and did a repair through there. The message stated my repair was successful. I did a reboot and thought I would be able to successfully update my payroll. But - still no luck.

While downloading the latest version of my ISP's software yesterday, the installer stopped the installation after the download and declared that it was unable to verify the integrity of the file (17.4MB) that it had just downloaded.

Looking at the properties of the file, indeed, its cetificate stated its Digital Signature Invalid.

Viewing the certificate details, a Copy to File button exists which when pressed invokes a Certificate Manager Export Wizard.

My understanding of "Digital Signature Invalid" is minimal at best, but I suspect that the download file was changed after it had been signed which would explain the problem.

I run a Win98.SE platform with 512MB RAM and 40GB disk - so, system resources are plentiful.

Does the ISP need to re-sign the download file to correct the problem?

Does my platform need a new Root Cerrtificate for the ISP installed to correct the problem?

Or, do I need to export the "invalid digital certificate" via the Certificate Manager Export Wizard to proceed with the installation?

I have already contacted the ISP with these details, and since they are already sending me a second CD-ROM of their new software, they claim that should fix the problem.

While I am willing to wait to see if that corrects the problem, I would like to know your thoughts about the digital signature problem and its correction that I have explained to the best of my knowledge above.

Thanks in Advance,

-- Tom

Hi Guys

Have tried this post on " am I infected" forum without reply. Probably wrong forum anyway. I have Vista OS with AVG 2011 free. When I scan it comes up with 7 files with the narrative " this file has a broken digital signature issued by the Microsoft corporation" I have no idea what that means, can anyone enlighten me?

Answer:Broken digital signature

Although I'm not familiar with this particular AVG 2011 message, the meaning is quite obvious to me.

AVG 2011 has checked the digital signature (Authenticode) of Microsoft executables, and found 7 executables produced and signed by Microsoft, that have an invalid signature.
The most common reason for an invalid signature is that the executable has been modified after it was signed.

Does AVG tell you which executables have a "broken digital signature"? Can you share this with us?
Because one possible explanation for a modified executable, is that you have a malware infection.

In this blogpost, I explain how to check digital signatures: http://blog.didierstevens.com/2008/01/11/the-case-of-the-missing-digital-signatures-tab/

Hello,
I have signed up to broadband via BTinternet and I have to download their security stuff. However when I try to run this programme a window pops up saying- Internet explorer security warning, windows has found a problem with this file- Name (blank)- Publisher unknown publisher- file was blocked does not have a valid digital signature.
The only option is to click the ok button and that is it, no option to over ride. I then noticed that this happens with every file that I download including trying to upgrade graphics drivers from Nvidia site which is pretty annoying as they are out of date. So far under advice from Bt and the computer manufacturer I have wound back windows, turned off every security setting, run as administrator, removed the antivirus software and even done a complete vista re install. I cannot believe that this is a unique problem but the previous mentioned tech support teams are baffled. Please help
Regards to all. (extra info - windows vista 32, wireless hub)

Hello,
I was looking at my conhost.exe file (located C:\Windows\System32 , Size 330 KB, 332 KB on disk) and grew concerned because:
Description: conhost.exe (and I've seen other folks online have description of Console Window Host)
Created: Thursday, September 12, .....
Modified: Thursday, August 01, 2013, ..... (I'm positive I didn't modify this file but maybe security patch?... hopefully)
Accessed: Thursday, September 12, .... (same date/time created)
AND under Security, the following had read and execute privileges: SYSTEM, TrustedInstaller, Administrators, Users (I was mainly concerned with the Users one.) I'm pretty sure the TrustedInstaller (I'm assuming Microsoft) had ownership privileges before
I switched it over to the specific Administrator account I use (the only one).
AND (the main reason I am asking) in conhost.exe Properties: Details it says
Type  Application
Size  330 KB
Date modified 8/1/2013 8:09 PM
Everything else is blank. I thought there should be a copyright or digital signature or something. I know this file has to do with command prompts and am concerned that it has been altered from its original to say allow a command prompt window to be hidden.
Please let me know if I'm just paranoid and this is what conhost.exe is supposed to look like, or if I should be concerned.
BTW I have AVG Free 2014, have scanned it regularly with no issues, and I am running microsoft security scanner now just to double check. So... Read more

Answer:conhost.exe digital signature

Hi,

Based on my knowledge, conhost.exe is the new host process for console windows. Previously those were handled by csrss.exe which is the ?Client Server Runtime Process?, a process running with system-level privileges. The conhost.exe process sitting in
the middle between CSRSS and cmd.exe allows Windows 7 to fix both of the problems in previous versions of Windows?not only do the scrollbars draw correctly, but you can actually drag and drop a file from Explorer straight into the command prompt.

I would suggest you to see the following link for more information.

I uninstalled an HP scanner from my media center running Windows XP. I went through and deleted everything I could find that had to do with the scanner. Now I still get a pop up message box upon initial boot that says "No Digital Signature" and the title on the box is HP Precision Scan LT Setup. The program is deleted and I can find nothing when I search. I can close the box but it reappears within a short time. Any help would be appreciated.

Since it wasn't uninstalled correctly you might try going into the registry & delete all instances of the HP scanner. Run regedit & search for whatever reference your getting in your message & delete the keys.

Yes, you can use this in vista/7, if your needing to test it with a certain amount of drivers you are installing this will help.
Windows 7 Simplified: Sigverif.exe
If your needing this for windows xp, not quite sure but you could check with a windows dedicated forum and they'll let you know immediately if it is or not.
