Missing Program information/details in Add/Remove programs

Question: Missing Program information/details in Add/Remove programs

I recently used IOBit uninstaller to remove all traces of a program from the registry. I'm assuming it removed something that caused this issue, because after I used it all my program information in Add/Remove programs was missing. However, other users on my PC show all information in Add/Remove programs. Is there a way to repopulate this or would I have to create a new user? Thank you

Preferred Solution: Missing Program information/details in Add/Remove programs

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Missing Program information/details in Add/Remove programs

Use a restore point before this happened.

Hi All,

Am Running Windows XP home with SP2 on a P4 machine,
everything running smoothly except that I tried to uninstall a program
through the control panel-add/remove route and even though most programs are listed
there, only a few of them (like 5 out of 40 odd) have the change/remove
button when the particular program name is clicked. It just shows size,
used frequency and last used on... So, I cannot uninstall those
programs incl. the officeXP package. I am absolutely sure all this was
possible few days back and tried to get my system back to a 7-8 day
restore point but this does not help as well. In the registry key
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall"
only 5-6 programs are listed and the change/remove button only shows up
for these. Where did the rest go?..as all these other programs are
running on my computer. What could be the problem and how can I resolve
it without re-formatting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks...

I am assisting my father who is in another state. He has been unable to print from any of his 3 printers. I decided to remove the printers and reinstall them. The only problem is that nothing appears in the ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS window. There are no programs listed. I have ran Hijackthis, CWShredder, Adaware, Mcafee. I have removed c:\windows\system\mprexe.exe, c:\windows\system\mstask.exe and PC mightymax\pcmm.exe. The programs still do not appear and I am unable to reinstall the printers. Posted this before under a different Topic Title and had no inputs, so trying with a different title.
I'm running Media Center Edition 2005 and have Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 installed but it does not show up in the Add/Remove Programs list in the Control Panel. All the updates are listed but not the program itself. I don't need to uninstall it now but would like to know why it isn't there in case I should ever need to uninstall and reinstall it. BTW, this is a legal and validated version.
Can it be reinstalled over the current installation with no ill effects?

Answer:Program Missing Add/remove Programs List

I think that Microsoft Office can be un-installed by using the CD for the product. Open it and click on setup.exe (installer)...May be an option to un-install there. There is also the following process from Microsoft (looks rather complicated)...http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218

I want to uninstall some programs, one at a time, to try to determine what is causing a problem. I know the date when the problem started showing up, so want to start at that point.

When I check ADD/REMOVE programs list sorted in the "DATE LAST USED" order, I notice that none of the programs I have accessed and/or modified recently are up to date. For instance - Spybot gets used at least weekly, but the list shows that the last used date is 3/25/05, and AdAware shows a last used date of 9/24/04. It also, gets at least weekly use. Firefox was updated in December, 05 and I frequently access it, but the list shows it hasn't been used since 12/23/05.

I have noticed this in the past, but I rarely ever use this sort option, so it didn't pop out like it does this time.

Can anyone explain what is going on?

Thanks, TEVBEV

No I can't but if it is any consolation mine is the same. Two examples in use every day Mailwasher according to Add/Remove last used 29/11/2003 and AVG - 11/02/2005.

No doubt someone will enlighten us!!

I would like to follow advice from a 'trusted source' and remove all instances of a program (IrfanView) so that I can make a clean reinstall using a 'trusted source' to provide the install file.

I cannot find the program in Programs and Features (was Add/Remove Program) in Control Panel.

I can clearly see the program in ZTreeWin.

I have attached image files.

I do not understand the implications of this paradox, but I do not want to 'dig a deeper hole.' I don't understand the implications of Control Panel not finding the installation trees.

Can I simply use ZTreeWin to delete the installations or does this leave a 'mess' of files in other paths and/or Registry entries that will complicate reinstalling the program? I seem to remember being told this at least once in the past 30 years, but that may apply to DOS, or Win98.

thanks

Answer:Remove Program - Not In Programs and Features (Add/Remove Program)

Check for the uninstaller here:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\IRFANVIEW\iv_uninstall.exe"

If that fails try the free version of REVO assuming that it's the 32bit version of Irfanview on your 64bit machine.

Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Free version is down the page. It's only suitable for 32bit program removal and not 64bit program removal.

Another option: Reinstall Irfanview straight over the top of the old version and see if it shows up in Control Panel - Programs & Features.

A family member was tricked in to downloading and installing some stuff from the Internet on to a laptop that has Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit with Media Center. I removed the stuff but noticed some other problems. I'm not sure if these are new problems caused by the useless stuff that was installed or if these problems existed earlier.

In Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, not all installed programs are listed. Oddly, the only listed installed programs have names that start with the letters Mi.. or Mo.. Only 14 programs are listed. In Start menu, All Programs, I think some programs are missing. The list seems unusually short. The laptop has a Win 7 style Start menu because IObit's Start Menu 8 program is installed. In Control Panel, System and Security, Administrative Tools, there were no shortcuts to the tools. I fixed that by using SFC /SCANNOW.

I tried using System Restore to go back to an earlier date but that didn't bring back the missing programs. I undid the restore. I created a new Windows user account. The new account had the same issues.

I guess the missing programs could be the result of malware. I don't remember exactly what I removed. I only used the free version of MBAM to clean up. I tried restoring everything MBAM quarantined but that didn't help. I requarantined the stuff. It was mostly, if not all, PUPs.

Any ideas for bringing back the programs that should be in the Start menu and Programs and Features menu?

Answer:Missing some Programs in Programs and Features (Uninstall a Program) Menu

I gave up. I restored the operating system and reinstalled everything. No problems now so I guess the problems of missing programs and BitDefender not working was caused by the malware/PUPs- a buggy installer.

I opened the Add and Remove Program utiltiy in Control panel to remove a
program and am surprised to see that every one of the program entires is missing the
"change" or "Remove" option buttons. Whenever I select any program from the
list, those option buttons do not show up at all, only the program name, file
size, and date last used. I cannot change or remove any program! I am running
Windows XP Home edition and just recently installed ZoneAlarm Internet
Security Suite, so I tried removing ZoneAlram, but that did not help, still no
"change" or "remove" buttons visible under any program entry. Its like something
wiped out or, disabled the add/remove programs utility from showing those option buttons.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:All "change" "remove" Option Buttons Are Missing From The Add Or Remove Programs Utility?

Have you tried using System Restore to return to a previous state before your problems began? Also see: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htmScroll down to #337 and click "Restore Change or Remove Programs" in the right column.or "Add/Remove Programs list are missing Change and Remove buttons"http://www.winxptutor.com/arpbuttons.htmThis involves making changes in the registry. Always back up your registry before making any changes. If you are not familiar with working in the registry, then you should NOT attempt to make any changes on your own. Improper changes to the registry could adversely affect your computer and render it inoperable.

I have tried previously to uninstall my HP Officejet G85 printer from HP Pavilion a1130n running XP Media. There is no Change/Remove button in Add/Remove Programs (but the program is there, 150 MB), and the file suggested on the HP website for uninstalling older printers from XP produces a message that it's "unsupported" (can't remember exact verbiage, been a while since last tried).

Even reinstalled in the hopes that a message would come up to the effect "this program is already installed, do you want install to remove it prior to completing this install," but it just installs the printer again with a number after it ... I'm up to "hp officejet g series - 3."

Now I have the mother of all paper jams and black ink leaking out of the underside of the g85, so I have no choice due to work deadlines and time constraints but to physically remove it and install a new printer tomorrow.

Any hope of removing this from my system altogether and starting fresh before installing another printer????

Hello,

I've just upgraded an old Win ME system with a PIII 800 MHz processor, 128 M Ram to XP Home. After doing so, I noticed that many of the programs that were on the Add/Remove Programs List are no longer there. I also notice that I can't install or uninstall ZoneAlarm Free because TrueVector is said to be running.

I don't understand why TrueVector would be running if ZoneAlarm is 'not installed'. If I end the task and try to install or uninstall ZA, I'm still not successful.

When booting the system, there appears to be a lot of disk activity - like if there is a virus scan taking place at boot up. Norton System Works was installed previously, but I don't see it in the Add/Remove Programs list or the Start Programs List.

I've done the Malware Scans, as documented in the Malware Forums, and run HJT which currently shows no signs of malware. So I'm wondering if there are some known issues with upgrading from ME to XP Home that would cause this kind of strange behavior.

Can you offer any other suggestions to try to resolve this issue? The virtual memory is reported to be too low. It's set at 384 M.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Bper

Answer:Missing Programs in Add/Remove Programs After XP Home Upgrade

To change the virtual memory (paging file size)

-control panel
-system
-Advanced
-Performance - settings
-Advanced
-Virtual memory - change
-custom size

I would just set the initial and the maximum to the recommended size
listed near the bottom of the box (mine is 1150)
depends on how large your hard drive is as to how much you want to hand over

-set

-Ok
-Ok
-Ok

64MB of RAM is the bare minimum needed to run windows XP
128MB of RAM is the minimum recommended by windows XP
256MB of RAM or more will make a huge difference

I dont really see what this would have to do with your programs acting up though
Your best bet would be to back up all of your data, settings etc
and reformat your hard drive to achieve a clean instal of Windows XP

Hi all,

I just went to uninstall a program and found that the Change/Remove button is missing for almost all entries in Add/Remove Programs.

Out of curiosity, I just scanned the registry with CCleaner, and most of the programs I have installed showed up as an Uninstaller Reference Issue.

Does anyone know how this could have happened, or what I need to do to fix it?

During the past couple of days I've received some help here for something very minor, which I don't think is related. Here's the link to the thread:
http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=154644

Incidentally, a few hours ago I uninstalled a small program with no problems, so it's just occurred.

Thanks!

P.S. Running Windows XP with all updates.

My laptop is missing lots of programs under Add/Remove Programs that I know are installed. Furthermore, some that are listed don't have the Remove button next to it. The missing programs aren't listed in the Uninstall registry key and I'm confident there are not viruses on the machine.

Any idea how to fix this? I don't think a System Restore will help as this machine probably has had this issue for quite some time now.

Hello everyone!

A few days ago, I had some problems with a virus and malware, and one your friends helped me to resolve the issue. The details are here in case you'd like to see:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...-new-post.html

After that, in order to make sure the problem doesn't happen again, among other things, I ran Secunia OSI. It identified several programs as insecure and asked me to update them (Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, and a few others). Since some wouldn't upgrade automatically to the newer versions I started removing them through Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. After I removed ZoneAlarm, the Change/Remove buttons all disappeared. To resolve this, I looked around, and one of the suggestions people had made was to save the file in line 337, second column, located in this page: www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and clicking on it.

I saved the linked .reg file, and clicked on it. It just opened with NotePad and nothing else happened.

I reinstalled one of the programs that I had uninstalled (Adobe Flash), and that one has now the Remove button in front of it, but the others still don't have the buttons.

I'll greatly appreciate any comments or suggestions you might have.

Thanks!
Yahoot

P.S. Sorry for the links. I tried to remove the hyperlinks, but they keep coming back even when I disable "Automatically parse links in text".

OS: WinXP Pro SP 3
Hardware: Intel Pentium III

Answer:Change/Remove buttons missing from Add/Remove Programs

When you double click on the .reg file - it shouldn't be opening in notepad.

Try running the REG File Association Fix found on this page.

problem, no remove links at the add-remove programs in control panel. most listings on the program list are not really programs, when i googled the listings it comes back with links about malware. most of the programs that are actually installed on the pc are not listed at add-remove programs.

Greetings. First off, I wasn't quite sure where to put this, so I apologize if this is in the wrong forum area.

Now for the problem.

Two months ago I uninstalled Final Fantasy XI and Playonline Viewer. However Playonline Viewer and Playonline Viewer Tetra Master still appear in the Add/Remove programs list.

I have tried removing said program via regedit but I can't seem to find it in there.

I can't find anything about it anywhere on my system, yet it still appears on the list.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A very long time ago, I had a user account for me and one for one of my friends. After a while, he didn't need to use my computer anymore, so I deleted his account, through the control panel's users option. He had downloaded something called Beam!2D and it shows on my Add/Remove programs. I try to do the add/remove and it will not remove it. I can see the path of where the program is supposedly installed, but the thing is that it's under the c:/Documents and settings for my friend and that account doesn't exist, so there is no folder.

It's taking 19,992mb and 19,923mb, because there are two instances of the program. How can I uninstall something that technically doesn't really exist? I don't want to restore my computer if I can avoid it.

Hi,,,,, My computer got infected with virus's and malware related stuff. And maybe in the process of removing the infections i have been left with 3 problems. A lot of programs are missing from add remove programs list
The remove TAB in the add remove list is'nt there any more
When i restart my computer or turn it on my screen resolution changes
I have looked here > http://www.winxptutor.com/arpbuttons.htm But that doest sort the remove TAB out for me it is still missing. Also when i went the to set NoRemove (REG_DWORD) set it to 0 and NoModify (REG_DWORD) set it to 0 I thought i may see all the programs installed on my computer there but they weren't
I was having help and was asked to follow this:
Click Start>Run and type in sfc /scannow (there is a space between sfc and /) and let it scan for missing/corrupt files. This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. If it finds any problems, it will prompt you for the Windows XP Install disc so have it handy.
After doing so every time i restart my PC on turn it on my screen resolution changes and i have to change it back to how i like it.
Not to wast time ill put the thread title below so you can see what we have tried.

Hey everyone, I am on Windows XP. I recently had to do a system restore, and a program I had removed (Verizon Internet Security Suite) came back onto the computer. Now I can't remove it in the control panel add/remove program function. I tried to manually delete it, but no go. I tried to use the tweak ui program, as suggested on this website, but I don't think it works for XP (can't find the add/remove tab). I tried to manually uninstall it through regedit, but it does not show up under the uninstall folder. I am out of ideas, and wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Thank you for your help.       Mike

Answer:program remains in add/remove programs

Hi dumbldore. There's nothing stupid about trying PaintShop Pro. The only stupid thing is that the uninstall utility didn't complete the job.Try downloading RegSeeker click here. Unzip the downloaded file to a folder of your choice (I created a folder that I named Regseeker for this purpose). Then run RegSeeker by double clicking RegSeeker.exe. Click on "Clean the Registry". All the items in green can definitely be safely removes, but I have never had problems deleting the red ones as well. As long as you have a tick in the "Backup before deletion" box, you can restore any removed entries later. Hopefully this will remove the unwanted residual registry entry.

I have a new Dell 4700 pc and noticed I have a program in my Add/Remove Programs named "G5a922EN" (Dell Version 1.0.0), which has only the option to remove. Has anyone else with a Dell computer encountered this? If so, I would appreciate any information you can provide me. I contacted Dell and even though the person could not help me identify it, he suggested I remove it - which I think is a little weird, I think, since my computer is working just fine. Removal could cause a problem, I would think. Just curious not crazy. Appreciate any information anyone has. Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Program in my Add or Remove Programs

Find it in Program files and see if anything more can be learned there.

Might be a burn-in (or some other test) program not deleted.

Find it in all programs (or program files) and run it and see what it does.

Leave it be and don't worry about it.

I would delete it if it were wasting space on my machine.

Answer:Programs missing from Add/Remove list.

First, Welcome to MajorGeeks! :major
Second, are you sure that there's not just a large empty blank white space in your Add/Remove list? This is a fairly common issue and it's usually easily solved. Have you tried using a 3rd party add/remove programs type of app? This can at least show you that the programs are indeed there, just not listed correctly. You may want to run Dial-A-Fix. It will fix all the Control Panel applets and DLL files that may have become unlinked (unregistered) from their "hosts". Here's some links:
Revo Uninstaller http://www.majorgeeks.com/Revo_Uninstaller_d5706.html
Add/Remove Pro http://www.majorgeeks.com/AddRemove_Pro_d5572.html
Dial-A-Fix http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4899.html (check all the boxes in the Registration Center and click Go! If you get any errors, post 'em here. DAF is totally safe as it doesn't delete or install anything)

I'm not sure whether this is in fact an XP problem, and am slightly worried it may languish fairly much unseen when it might be a more widespread problem, but here goes:

A program of mine has vanished from Add & Remove Programs since a couple of days ago.  Its files are still there in the Program Files folder, and when I attempted a reinstall I got an error message saying that there was already one instance active on the system and that I'd need to uninstall that and restart before I could reinstall.  Yet no sign of it in A&RP any longer, and my uninstaller programs can't see it to uninstall it!  If I go through the Start > All Programs command and try and uninstall it that way, I get the error message I referred to, and can't uninstall.

Does anyone know if there's a way I can force A&RP to recognise it, or do you have any suggestions as to how I can uninstall, please?

It is an XP/SP3 computer, admittedly, although as I said above I'm not sure how relevant that is.  The software is a program controlling a mobile broadband dongle.

Answer:Program not showing up in Add & Remove Programs - can I uninstall?

Microsoft has a program that will attempt to fix this but it's only for Windows 7 and later. Microsoft used to have a tool called Installer Cleanup Utility but is now unsupported because of problems with Office. It is still available here. Run the program and look for your software. Only check highlight the software you are attempting to install, Reboot and see if you can reinstall then uninstall. If you do not see your program close out the program.

Answer:Having trouble removing program from Add/Remove Programs

ve you tried this recommendation on how to from Microsoft:?
The Currently installed programs list in the Add or Remove Programs tool lists all of the Windows-compatible programs that have an uninstall program or feature. Occasionally, a program may not be removed completely, and the registry key that is used to display the program in the Currently installed programs list remains. In this situation, you may need to manually remove the program from the Currently installed programs list in Add or Remove Programs. To do this, follow these steps.

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. I recently added Mp3MyMp3.exe to Vista Home Premium and it did not work. I would like to take it off the drive but it's not showing in add/remove programs and there is no uninstall utility that came with the program.

P.S. It said after installation was not successful after I ran the program and closed it for the first time.

Please help.

Answer:Installed Program not showing in Add/Remove Programs

An uninstaller was not included because mp3mymp3.exe is actually a standalone program that technically does not need to be installed to run.

If you wish to remove the program simply delete the mp3mymp3 folder and it's contents.

Hi there. I installed a game on my Windows XP computer, and while installing the program, the computer hang up. I waited couple of minutes but the computer still hang up. I rebooted the computer. After rebooting, i finished the installation process.
When I decided to remove the game that I installed, I can't find it on the Add/Remove program on the control panel. It is not listed there. The CD that I used in installing the program doesn't have an Uninstall file to be use to removed the program.
Please help. I really wanted to remove this game because it consumes a lot of space.

I hope someone can help me.

Answer:How to uninstall a program that can't be found on Add/Remove programs

Hello Smallville1985

You could try reinstalling the program into the same folder, then uninstall through Add/Remove Programs.

If it will not reinstall, try using the Windows installer cleanup utility to remove the install/uninstall information for that program from the registry. Then reinstall and uninstall from add/remove should work.

Windows installer clean up utility:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301

Be sure to read the instructions carefully. ONLY remove the entries for that program
Then delete the folders for it on the hard drive

If that does not work
a) Start/All Programs
Find program (if it is there) and hover mouse over the name. If you are lucky a menu will pop out with an uninstall option in it
b) Search in C:\Programs for program. Open the folder and search for an uninstaller. It will usually start with "un*****". You will have to search in subfolders too.

There is nothing wrong with your logs. They are fine.See if this works for you......

1.) Go to your /WINDOWS/Resources/Themes directory, or wherever you may have your themes located.

2.) Go into the directory of the theme your currently using.
Example: Using 'Semplice' by KoL? Navigate to /WINDOWS/Resources/Themes/Semplice

3.) Go into the folder called 'Shell" within the previous directory.

4.) Inside you'll find a folder with a file called 'shellstyle.dll' inside. Now remember the name of the theme your using? (Example: Semplice). You need to rename this folder from Shell to the name of the theme your currently using. If you don't know the exact name, go to Display Properties, and try to Display/Show the theme, the name you see in Display Properties is the name you need to change the 'Shell' folder to.
Example: Using Semplice as an example, the Shell folder for that theme is called 'Shell', in this situation you'll need to rename the folder to 'Semplice'. Easy enough, right?
Note that for multi-part themes, aka themes with more than one variation or color, you'll need to rename each corresponding 'Shell' folder to what is displayed in Display Properties when you try to apply the theme.

5.) Now that you've changed the 'Shell' folder name to correspond with the visual styles name, reapply the theme.

6.) Go to Add/Remove Programs and see if there has been a change..

when I open the add/remove window the button/option to remove or uninstall a program is not there, and it's flooded with all sorts of program or wares that wasn't there before like bufferchm. I saw a lot of questions about it, and you said something about uninstalling them at the add/remove. But what if the option to do it so is not there? What is my other option? Please help. It's quite frustrating...

Answer:add/remove program button missing

You've probably been hit with spyware or viruses. Here's what to do:

First, download this file to (hopefully) re-enable your access to change / remove programs. Close out of add/remove programs. Download the file and double click it. Click "Yes" when prompted to allow changes to the registry. Then go into add-remove programs and change / remove should be re-enabled. If not, reboot and then see if change / remove is enabled. If it still not enabled after reboot, let me know. Either way, success or failure, you must complete the directions below to clean your system.

Next, to clean your system please read and follow the 5 steps. They will show you how to clean your system and post a HijackThis log. Your computer is most likely infected, so follow the steps and then the directions on how to post a HijackThis log. The techs over in the HijackThis section will help make sure nothing bad is left on your system.

Hello, I have a multiple SSD/HD setup in my laptop. My main SSD that I use for the system isn't very large, so I use an alternate directory (not C:\Program Files (x86)) on my secondary SSD to install my programs. Things like Intuit Quickbooks, Office, and other 3rd party programs.

Quickbooks was running an update of some sort and was in this nasty loop. I had to kill it, and then I rebooted. (I had just uninstalled Steam as well, fwiw) Now, all of the programs that I had installed in my alternate directory D:\Programs\XXXXXXXXXXX are now missing. Most of my directories are gone, except for a few that, what I'm guessing, are files that were locked.

My file associations and program defaults are still intact, so there's still trace of those programs.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to how this could have happened. Any help would be great.

Thanks!

Answer:Alternate Program directory, all programs missing

Hello, not obvious to me to suggest what might have happened, I'm afraid. Seems like some unfortunate glitch or bug.

Splitting installed programs from the OS such that the install path is to a different physical disk to that containing the OS is definitely not a preferred configuration.

It seems you can access the second SSD and read it, so I guess you haven't lost a partition. Have you tried any recovery software?

More usefully, do you have any disk images you can restore?

My file associations and program defaults are still intact, so there's still trace of those programs.

That info. is from the registry on your first disk, but the primary files and folders for your programs are on the other disk.

Without disk image backups, I can only suggest you try recovery software, but I doubt this will actually help you recover reliably or completely, and may not achieve anything.

Almost daily, I am missing some of my programs or some of my programs fail on me. This ranges from yahoo messenger, internet explorer, bearshare, and adobe reader. My computer also takes nearly 5 minutes to start up everytime I turn it on or restart it. After that, there seems to be a lot of lag when more than two-three programs are running at once. I wish I could tell you if it was a virus but I don't know. The computer does act as if its infected with something. I have included the logs, as requested.

I have just obtained the registered version of Pest Patrol and what I can't understand is why it doesn't show up in add/remove programs? I know that when the program is running there are 3 processes in Windows Task Manager. These are PPControl.exe, PPMemCheck.exe and CookiePatrol.exe Having no entry in 'add/remove programs' does this mean that I can't uninstall it as such just untick the entries in MSconfig > Startup and also delete the entries in the registry? I downloaded the program from the Pest Patrol website and I have made a backup copy in case something should happen to my hard drive!

Uninstall option in "ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS" is missing??

I did a search in this great forum but didn't find a problem like this so here we go....

When I go to Control Panel, ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS and the list of programs show up..... the Add / Uninstall option ain't there for any of them. I've never seen that before. Ever since I installed Windows Live Messenger 8.1 BETA, my computer has been crashing... screen goes black so I have to reboot but that's another problem. So, I can't uninstall any programs at all. Matter of fact, Windows Live Messenger 8.1 BETA doesn't even list at all in the ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS list; WTF?
I installed "Total Uninstall" but from what I see, that program will not uninstall existing programs.

Any suggestions anybody?

Thanks in advance.

Hello:

Would really appreciate someones help with a problem I am having-

I had an internal hard drive that I installed years ago which finally got corrupted and I had to remove and get rid of.

Now, I tried to remove some applications using the "Add or Remove Programs" and I am unable to uninstall some apps, as I get an error that states:

Error 1327. Invalid Drive: F:\

I also see a boot error which says "Primary Drive is unable to be detected" and I hit F2 to bypass it and boot windows.

Clearly, the computer is searching for the old hard drive, but how do let the computer know to stop searching for it, and to allow me to uninstall these programs? I think some of the components may have been saved/stored on the now removed hard drive.

Would welcome anyone's advice here.

Thanks,
Ebox

Answer:Can't remove installed programs - missing drive

The ‘Primary Drive is unable to be detected’ message is shown because your computer’s BI/OS is looking for the drive. If you continue to sidestep this by pressing F2 each time, it won’t have any detrimental effect on your computer, so if you want, you can ignore this and just keep doing that, meaning you can skip over the next paragraph.

To resolve this issue, you’ll need to enter your system’s BI/OS. This is usually done by pressing a key during the initial POST start up, normally at the point where your computer is counting up the memory. The key is often DEL, however, it could be something else, which may be indicated on screen at the appropriate time. Once in the BI/OS settings, you’ll need to look for the IDE or ‘hard drive’ detection section. Listed there should be all the IDE devices you have connected to your computer. From the information you’ve given, I’d guess that in the Primary section, there will be shown your C:\ drive hard disk and your CD-ROM drive, and in the Secondary section, there is your other hard disk (formerly F:\ drive), and possibly a fourth device (if you have one installed). If you use the options there to turn off detection of the drive you removed (again, I’m guessing that this will be the master device on the Secondary channel) the ‘F2’ message will stop appearing. If you turn off the wrong drive, you’ll just have to come back here and reset the... Read more

My laptop came with Microsft Works 8, and yesterday I decided as I never used it I would uninstall it. Now, it kept coming up with an error, saying I needed the installation CD to complete the uninstallation, wich I didn't have. So, I searched about, came across a few threads with the same problem.

There were a couple of suggestions of 3rd party software to use, and I used something called Powertools, and it got rid of it. The Works folder is no longer in Program files, and I belive the 230MB has been freed!

However, in add/remove programs, the icon for Microsoft works is still there. I've done some searching for this problem as well, and I'm always coming across

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314481

However, I've looked in the place it tells me to look, and ive triple checked, and there is no entry there for Works.

So, any ideas how I can get rid of this icon? (Which is bugging me way more than it should =P)

Btw, clicking the icon in add/remove does nothing, as does pressing delete/backspace etc.

Answer:I uninstalled a program, but the icon remains in Add/Remove programs.

I am rebuilding a gateway laptop, starting from the D recovery disk (it was running very slow, much faster now). While rebuilding, one software app needed to get to SP2 to install (Adobe), which I did. After the install, I went to remove a program, and almost none of the installed programs in Add/Remove programs have the Uninstall buttons on them.

Found a link to this question, and looked like it was common back in 2007.
http://www.techsupportforum.com/f10/...ow-164689.html
Searched, cant find a newer fix.

A much more techy friend recommended installing the rest of the Win XP updates (SP3, security, etc = have installed them all), and running Eusing Registry cleaner - all finished fine, still NO uninstall buttons.

Please help, I dont want to have to restart the rebuild process! Surely Microsoft must have found a patch for this over the past 3 years???

The computer is running Windows XP Professional SP3. When I go into Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs, there are no options showing for "Remove" or "Change" program. I took this issue up in the Infection forum and tried to get it resolved there. However I couldn't fix the problem. After doing a registry backup, I performed tweak #337 in Kelly's Korner, as instructed, and then attempted a System File Checker "scannow" repair. The problem still exists. Anybody got any ideas?

Answer:Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs not allowing program removal

Caution is advised - at your own risk.As it involves a registry edit, backup up your registry first with a program such as ERUNT and you may also want to create a system restore point.See this link:Some applications in Add/Remove Programs list are missing Change and Remove buttons:http://www.winxptutor.com/arpbuttons.htmThis assumes that your system is not infected.
