100% CPU usage, 100% Disk usage, cooling fans full speed

Question: 100% CPU usage, 100% Disk usage, cooling fans full speed

Hi guys, hope you can help me please. I'm not too computer savvy so sorry if I'm missing something important or I say something dumb. I'm really frustrated and I'm trying my best to learn and solve this problem.
So I bought this Vaio with Core i5-3210M, 4Gb Ram, Windows 8 64 bit. I had really high hopes for it, coming from an i3. For the first few weeks it worked fine, but then it started to freeze while watching movies. Then it started happening all the time, and the cooling fan became consistently noisy for working at full capacity.
I was used to opening task manager on older systems when this happened to see if there was a non-responding program and force it closed, so I noticed Task Manager offers some more features in Win 8. Here, I see that CPU usage is high, staying always around 70% and from time to time reaching 100. At this moment, the process taking the biggest slice is called VCS System Tray with 58%.
What's perhaps more concerning, is that Disk usage is almost constantly on 100%. And by this I mean it reaches 100 and stays there for long periods of time, perhaps up to 20 minutes, then it falls down a few seconds and up again to 100. During this time the computer is excruciatingly painful to use. To even open a program takes forever. When this happens, it seems that Chrome is at the top of the list of processes with most disk usage, with about 1-2Mbps, but this sometimes changes and the list can be led by System, Utorrent, Octoshape, VCS System Tray, Communications Service...I think it's not related to any process by itself, but its nearly ALWAYS at 100%.
Finally, memory usage is also pretty high at 78%, but I guess this may be because 4Gb is not too much for this computer. I'm hoping to upgrade to 8 soon. Out of the 10 processes consuming most memory, 9 is Google Chrome (how's that even possible?).
In case it helps, here's a capture of the Disk Usage stats: http://imgur.com/AMqcxYS

And one of the processed with the most disk usage and the Resource Monitor at the side:http://imgur.com/tHSjymC

Thanks a lot for the help!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, welcome to the forums,
Go to Device manager(right click bottom left corner), uninstall the "VAIO care" driver, get the new driver from Sony support:Sony eSupport - Computers - Support
Install and see whether it helps, check your system for virus infections with Malwarebytes as well.

In Task Manager, I see that my laptop has a total of 2038 MB of physical memory, but 0 of it is free. The only thing that I am running is Firefox with 4 tabs, Spybot, my touchpad program for my mouse and Open Office QuickStarter. My CPU usage is always above 80% and the fan runs at max nearly all of the time. Here's some more specs:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate, 32-bit
Laptop Brand and Style: Compaq Presario C700
Processor: Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2390 1.86 GHz

Could you open up your task manager click the processes tab make the window as large as you can and make a screenshot?

...I guess the real question in that is what is eating all the cpu?
It should show it in the process tab.

As the title suggests, I have 100% disk usage on my desktop. I have tried every tip I've found through googling. Disabling search, deleting this, altering that. I have no disk errors.
I have transferred everything onto my laptop, and have done a full system reset. Task manager still shows 100%. Pc runs fine in safe mode.
I am now at the point of binning the whole thing and getting a cheap ebay replacement.
Any ideas?

Wouls anybody know if there is a good utility out there for monitoring in realtime the read and write speeds/data throughput of my IDE HD's?

Simple, and yet for some reason, seemingly elusive. I know there's probably an option in XP's system tools, or some manner of snap-in for it, but it would bve nice just to have something quick, easy, accurate, nice and easy on the eyes, and above all, specific to look at.

I have a Windows 10 Pro, up-to-date now, full drivers, but it has an annoying problem. Each time I don't touch the computer (dont move mouse or type) after 2 minutes, the screen is turned off (yes, I set 2 minutes for automatically turning off the screen), but when the screen is turned off, the disk is loading a lot (I know by seeing the HDD LED on my laptop).

Through Task manager opened, I see the disk gets 100% disk usage (I open Task manager first, then wait for the screen turning off, then when it happened, I move the mouse and see). After about 10-20 seconds for the screen to turn on again, the disk backs to normal.

It doesn't happen when I turn off display by pressing Fn+F7 (my hotkey function to do that), but after about 2 minutes, it appears.
I hope to hear your advice to solve this problem. Thank you!

Answer:Windows 10 gets full disk usage every time the screen is turned off

Please post a screenshot of your task manager's Processes tab, organising any column of interest, high to low, by clicking on the appropriate tab showing when the high usage is happening.

You may be able to do this with PrtSc (and paste that into e.g. Paint) else take a photo and post that.

Similarly for the Performance, Disk tab, choosing the disk in question.

Repeat when you have used your mouse and activity is low.

Every 10-40 minutes, the application I'm currently working in [whither it be skype, L4D2, or firefox] becomes unresponsive, and after a minute or two, the window turns white, notifying me that it's not responding. This unresponsiveness quickly spreads to other open processes, rendering them frozen as well. I can still use the mouse, and it appears rainmeter still responds [updates, showing barely any CPU usage].

Steps I've taken to try and resolve this:
Using only one main program, still does it
turning the computer off and on again
Memtest is clean
chkdisk passes
MBAM/MSE scans return nothing
defragged
no memory overflows that I can see

While troubleshooting, I noticed that during the 'fit of unresponsiveness' the disk usage light on my tower is solid, but when I looked at the disk usage in the resource monitor, no processes whatsoever were using it [screenshot related]

If any more specifications are needed, I'll be happy to elaborate.
Thanks!

Answer:Frequent unresponsiveness, 100% hardware disk usage, 0% software usage

It could be indexing. What if you turn off indexing just as an experiment?

Hey everyone,

So I've been fairly busy lately, and just recently started using my laptop again. It runs 64-bit Windows 10 and on startup, the system seems to be somewhat sluggish but nothing alarming. Once everything boots up, the system runs at what I would consider a normal speed. I noticed the system fan making more noise than usual and opened the task manager to find that 100% of the disk is being used. I have done the following things based on what I found through google:

Turned off the "Show Me Tips About Windows" feature
Quit Skype
Currently running a virus scan

What puzzles me is that it appears that most other people who encounter this issue experience a system wide slowdown after the machine boots, but I do not have this issue. I am hesitant to disable Superfetch as I do not fully understand what it does and it appeared to be more of a fix for users with a SSD, whereas I have an HDD. To go along with the disk usage, my battery life seems to have diminished, however I attribute this to the disk usage.

I haven't posted here in a long time, and have forgotten how to submit a machine log or system stat log. I can post one later if it would help.

Thanks in advance. I really appreciate the help and insight.

So on Saturday of last week my PC started to run slow. I open up task manager to check what was going on and I am greeted with it showing me that I have very high CPU usage, and constant capped-out disk usage.
Over the course of the past few days I have reinstalled Windows 10, updated drivers, completely formatted my previous hard-drive, and just today I received a new SSD. However, my problem STILL persists, and I'm all out of ideas on what I need to in order to solve this.

My Motherboard is an ASUS Z97-P with an Intel i5-4690K processor. If you need more specifications, or a program to be run, then I would be happy to do so.

For further information, the system ran normally when booting from a Windows 8.1 hard-drive, and did have a blip of normal performance on Windows 10, but resumed misbehaving when the computer was re-started.

Answer:Constant 100% Disk Usage, 60-80% CPU usage. Both happen when idle.

in Task Manager sort by CPU usage and see what apps are responsible.

hey all! ever since i upgraded my laptop's win8 to win10 im getting these usages... and the machine is runnig REALLY SLOW....
i saw that it's a common problem so i looked up some solutions and tried the following:

1- i changed the registry - ?HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management? and changed ?ClearPageFileAtShutDown? value to 1
2- adjusted windows 10 to "best performance" in system settings
3- i disabled many startup programs
4- i defragemented the C drive
5- uninstalled all the programs that i could
6- I disabled "Show me tips about Windows"
7- changed the power settings profile

NONE OF THOSE WORKED. PLEASE HELP!

Hi, In November I purchased a new Lenovo Y50. It's the non-touch 1080p version with the GTX960m. Recently, I've had issues with the fans spinning up while the laptop is idle. I opened task manager, and there are random spikes of 100% disk usage on startup and sometimes when I leave the machine idle or I'm using Chrome. Recently, I've noticed strange spikes in CPU usage too, with occasional bouts of 20% usage for seemingly no reason.  I contacted support, and they weren't able to find any issues, but had me install Lenovo Solution Center and do a full run of the tests, which didn't find anything wrong. They also had me disable all non essential startup programs and see if the problem happened again, and it does. However, cpu and disk temperatures were normal, so I was told to just monitor the problem and see if anything changes.   My system's definitely not functioning properly. Startup is notably slow considering it has the 8gb ssd and I never had issues with the fans coming on when I first got it. I've heard that there are issues with the hybrid 8gb ssd/1 tb hdd, so I need some input on this. Why is this happening? Is it a hardware issue? Firmware? My case number is 8006295558. I would greatly appreciate some help from a rep or anyone who can give me a hand with the issue.

Hi all,

I did a clean install of windows 10 about 2 months ago.
Everything was fine till all of a sudden I came home one day and found my GPUs fan at full blast making some real good noise.

Turned off the computer, checked the card, cleaned it (pressurized air) and put it back in and same problem persists.
It did not feel hot so this is very weird. It seems to be a Windows 10 issue because the card is working fine except the fans are at full blast always.

Here is a pic of the GPU info....look at those fan rpms!!
Also attaching a log file if this helps.

Please help!!

Thanks

Hi I've bought the HP Spectre 13-v018ca a few months ago. Upon reading the reviews for this product, I found that some of the critics reviewing this laptop have stated that the fans were annoying at times. Once I bought the laptop, it became a really apparent issue. The fans would spin at high speeds under low cpu usage. Usually they would spin when using Chrome or using the laptop with cpu usage higher than 30% for a sustained amount of time. I've read other forums regarding the HP Spectre x360 but not the HP Spectre 13 so I wanted to know if other people with the HP Spectre 13 also had the same issue. I expect a lot from this because this is a business laptop at a high, high, high price. I hope that HP can acknowledge this issue and try to, at least, release a software update through HP Support Assistant.

Hi
Switched on the pc this morning Fans running at full speed ... switched off and restarted two or three times with the same effect. Looking inside the pc the cpu was clean and virtually free of dust and connections were fine.I started the pc again and ran pc wizard to check temperatures (quad core ) all threse were fine, however noticed that one of the Hardware monitors was reading 90 c.(TMPIN1).

The pc is not very old
Hp Pavillion HPE h8-1170uk desktop pc
IPISB_CH2 (chicargo) mother board
16 G memory

Thinking that the pc is still under warrenty thought I wouldn't start taking things to bits, so put the side on andthought I'd try it again ... I haven't really done anything , but it started fine and several reboots have been ok.

The only thing I did different was to disconnect the power lead and press the start button a couple of times ( discharge the caps).

Any ideas ?

Answer:Fans running full speed

Yes, one idea. Sometimes a device in the system does not "enumerate" correctly during the BIOS boot. Put simply, the BIOS "names" each connected device and keeps a list (checksum). When you boot the connected devices are checked against the list. If one of the devices on the list does not respond correctly then the system has to try and resolve the discrepancy. The BIOS will not completely release the system to the OS until it has done so. If it gets stuck in a loop then it will search forever.

I believe what you accomplished was some sort of "soft" ClearCMOS. By cutting power and draining the caps you allowed the system to refresh. It found all it's parts and you are good to go.

This type of behavior does not need to indicate any failing parts. It can happen simply due to a minor power fluctuation or data logjam. One time does not make a pattern. Keep your eye on it and if it happens more often then you may need to look into it further.

I've encountered an usual problem... I recently had to pull 1 of the 2 video cards in my PC because it appears to have failed. Ok, not a big deal - not the first time I've had a video card die on my. (GTX 460's). Not sure if that's related to the problem or not, but thought it was worth mentioning as it's the only recent hardware change I've made.
A few days later - when I boot the PC, 2 of the case fans are running at maximum speed - the rear-facing case fan, and the fan mounted behind the motherboard - roughly behind the CPU. The CPU is liquid cooled. All temperatures are running under 50 degrees C, and this is from a cold start after hours of non-use, so no built up heat. The fans persist at maximum speed and never slow down.
I tried the trick I found online re: unplug and disperse any current to get the BIOS to reset, and it worked the first time but has not since.
Anyone have any ideas? The system still loads and appears to be running normally - no problems running any applications (including gaming) - but these fans are very loud at this speed.

Answer:PC fans running full speed

How are they connected controlled?

If they are attached to motherboard headers (not recommended), verify the BIOS configuration. Depending on the motherboard brand/model, there may be options for how they are controlled.

If that has no effect, the onboard controller could be faulty. You could simply install a fan controller, which is the recommended way to control fans anyway.

Both the system and processor fans run full speed all the time, it is really annoying! Lenovo has been out 6 times and still can't fix it, the system is brand new out of the box and I get the feeling they don't know what they are doing. They replaced the fans, the system board, the temperature sensor, and the graphics card with no effect. They upgraded the BIOS and that did nothing either. If anybody can give me a clue I would appreciate it.

Answer:M90p fans run full speed

Hi, Can you make absolutely sure you have the correct memory modules installed? If one (or more) modules do not support the chipset of your machine it could cause the high fan speed symptom - I had a similar issue on my M58p.  I purchased a second DIMM which looked to be of the right specification, but sent the fans crazy.  When I Googled the part number on the DIMM, I saw that it did not support the chipset in my machine.  I returned it for a replacement that did support the Q45 chipset and all was well. This just might be your problem as well ..... Good luck.

I have a Dell Optiplex GX 280 medium tower with XP Pro. It was working great and I sent it to my son via UPS. When it arrived. It wouldn't boot at all. I now have it back here.

When you push the power button, I get a yellow light and the fans turn on but run at a very high speed. On the inside I get a constant yellow light which indicates a hardware failure.

I have disconnected and reconnected everything several times, changed the memory, cleaned the processor and added Arctic Silver 5 to the CPU and Northbridge.

The CD-ROM tray works but won't read anything. It won't start in safe mode and won't bring up "set-up" or "boot sequence". The screen never shows anything.

I found a couple of problems similar to this on Google but have tried everything that anyone suggested.

My question: Is there anyway to isolate the problem. It's an older computer and not worth the expense of just replacing parts at random.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Answer:Fans are running at full speed all times

I would see if its a software or hardware issue that is causing this. Easiest test would be to download and install to USB Stick or burn to a DVD Linux Mint 17.2 or 17.3 and boot computer off of that and then tell Linux to shutdown. If Linux Mint shuts down after removing the disc when it tells you etc then you know that its not a hardware or BIOS setting and its some problem with Windows 10 completing its full shutdown process.

Not sure how best to describe this, also confirmed by others who have updated to BIOS 1.1.3
since installing the BIOS update the fans will rev to full at various times, rebooting is one time, they are forced to 100% with no ramp up, this causes a high pitched noise as the fans cannot cope with being revved up so fast.
When the fans kick in they will not kick in at 2500rpm (minimum), they will ramp up about 1000rpm faster then settle down.
This has never happened in the time I have owned a 9550 and 9560 until this new BIOS update.
I have reset the BIOS to defaults a few times, reflashed the update and it still does it.

Changing Dell power command doesn't help either.

I built myself a custom PC in August of last year. It has been going great ever since, no problems at all, until i recently installed a graphics card. I don't do any gaming, only some photo editing in Photoshop and graphics in Illustrator, so I decided to buy an EVGA GTX 1050 Ti SC. I run a Samsung 4K monitor and sometimes, a second display (Dell S2715H at 1080p). Before installing the graphics card, I was running on Intel Integrated Graphics, on the Dell monitor only (@1080p), without any freezing.
The problem is when my computer suddenly freezes, the mouse and keyboard are non-responsive and sometimes, the graphics card fan suddenly starts running at full speed. The only way to fix the problem is to hard reset (shutdown the computer) by holding down the power button. Sometimes, it happens after using the computer for a while, sometimes it happens right after booting up.
I've checked the CPU and GPU temperatures when this happens and everything seems normal. I've also checked all the drivers, and they are all up to date. I tried running my computer with the PC case open (side cover removed) to see if the problem is related to airflow and temperature, but it still freezes up.
If anyone has any idea of what might be causing this, I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions.

Device Manager, Mice, rightclick on HID-compliant, power Management,
uncheck "allow this device to wake the computer"

(I'm not 100% sure on this but this worked a few months ago. Fans came back on recently, and I see the box became checked again - probably due to a Windows 10 update, so I unchecked it again. So far so good)

Hello,
I have an Emachines T6414 with a new videocard and sound card, neither of which require a seperate power connector than their slot on the mobo. THey were both in the machine for a few months when I decided to update my BIOS. I was updating my bios, and everything appeared to have worked. At the end it said: "success...press f1 to reboot" so I did. Then the problem started.

When I rebooted the PC the computer did not post, it only had all the fans (CPU, Main and Videocard) going full blast and the hard drive made a little noise, but nothing booted. I reseated the CPU, same thing. I called Emachines tech support and decided that the bios process actually didn't work. So, I bought a replacement bios from an online vendor, Biosman. I gave them the BIOS that the tech support had emailed me. I switched out the bios for the new one, and the same process happened still-no post, full fans and the hard drive warming up. At that point I bought a new PC and got the Geek Squad to transfer the data over.

So now I have come here for a last gasp attempt to revive the POS. I just read that the power supply could be the culprit. How should I determine what part has become faulty?

Thanks in advance. :dead:

I've had a recurring problem where on seemingly random instances, my PC disconnects from the monitor and the GPU, CPU and chassis fans go on full speed and won't stop until I hit the restart switch. This happens regardless of whether the PC is on idle or under intensive use. The PC is still on as audio still functions and responds to keyboard and mouse. When the problem occurs, I can hear the windows device disconnecting sound - which presumably is the monitor.
At first, the problem occurred every couple of weeks, and on the day it occurred it happened several times. Now, it occurs several times a day, some times before I even log in.
I have tried monitoring temperatures, and they're all normal. I've even set the fan speeds higher, but that didn't help. I have tried increasing the voltage supplied to CPU and GPU, but it doesn't seem to have worked. I have tried switching the DP cable to the motherboard when it occurs, and that doesn't work either. All drivers are currently up to date.
I'm not sure whether the problem is caused by my GPU, CPU or motherboard. Would appreciate any help finding the root of the problem and any potential fixes. Thanks.

Hi all I have a HP Compaq DC7800p Convertible Minitower. The cpu and chassis fans both run at full speed all the time after I switch the pc on, whether I boot into windows or just enter the bios settings. I have reviewed an old thread which suggested updating the bios, which I have done. Unfortunately this has not solved my problem. I have tried blowing out the dust, reseating the memory and cards, reseating the CPU and applying new thermal compound. Problem remains. I have double-checked the bios setting for the fan idle speed. Changing this setting does not help. I have also installed coretemp and both processor cores do not exceed 37 degrees Celcius. Anyone able to assist? AJ.

Starting about two days ago both my case fan and CPU fan have been stuck running at full speed  constantly. I doubt it has anything to do with heat because the fans run at full speed at boot up even if the computer hasn't been used for over 12 hours, and the room it is in is kept at 70 degrees F. I have already attempted updating drivers and updating windows but nothing has resulted in a fix, i'm not sure what else to do

It is my understanding that a system design should at least design itself to handle a circumstance of your CPU and GPU running 100% for sustained periods.  I assume this is the case because ATI and INTEL have cooling guidelines for their hardware that I hope Lenovo designs and tests for. However my Lenovo T500's cooling is not handling long term sustained heavy load.  My laptop does not seem to be able to keep the temperature within safe limits under sustained heavy load causing system reboots and overheating.  I can see overclocking pushing the cooling system to its break point but there is no overclocking being done. Is there anything I can do to improve the heat management of my computer?  All fan ports are clear and not being impeded.  The fan is operating smoothly.  This is why I brought up the design in the first sentence.  Was my computer's cooling system designed to allow my CPU and GPU to compute to its potential?  I know the chip's themselves are designed to run 100% given a cooling system that meets their guidelines.  Does my computer's cooling meet Intel and ATI's cooling requirements? Are there any reports where I can see what tests Lenovo did to ensure that their design could handle cooling the system? If it can be proven that my system cannot handle cooling,  will Lenovo fix the problem?  Im sure most users dont notice because they dont operate their system to full... Answer:Cooling system is not handling 100% sustained GPU-CPU usage.

Also I know about "laptop coolers".  Those are a workaround to something that is wrong with my system.  I would like my system itself to handle the heat.

Hello guys this is my first post in this forum.

I work in IT support, and I came across a problem with someone I work with.

Guy called Tony, had a USB stick in one of his front USB ports on his computer, he accidently kicked it and broke some of the USB off in the port.

He has 2 ports on the front, and now when he plugs something into the one that isnt broken, a cooling fan at the top of the computer goes crazy, and it cant be stopped until the computer is shut down, and the USB doesnt register on the computer.

Is this a problem with wires? Or is it just a problem where the ports at the front need replaing all together?

Thanks!

Hard to say at this state.

By "a piece broken off", do you mean Mr. Tony broke the flashstick so that the USB-male is still plugged in, but the drive itself has been detached? Have you removed the piece which is still inside? (It helps ) - also, which OS is the computer running? This is sort of important, as different OS's works (a little) differently regarding the USB-ports.

Currently, it looks like you simply need to remove that piece stuck inside. Although if that doesn't fix the problem (or if there is no piece stuck inside), then probably a connection or two inside the port broke when the flashstick was kicked - resulting in a need for changing the entire port .

Hi all,

I'm having a bit of trouble with Windows 8 on my laptop (I've named my laptop Romulus for future reference in this thread). First off, let me give you a brief history on Romulus' journey thus far:

1.) Bought pre-built from ACER with Windows 8 64-bit installed.
2.) After playing around with it for a bit, I formatted the C drive (deleting all partitions) and installed Windows 7.
3.) Hoping to test out the new Windows 8.1, I reinstalled Windows 8 (a clean install from Microsoft this time... not the original bundled version from ACER). I have yet to install 8.1.

This is where I've noticed a few problems. Specifically, my CPU and Disk usage keep spiking to 100% for no apparent reason. Literally right after booting Romulus, before running any programs/apps, I see these spikes. I boot up, go straight to the desktop, fire up Task Manager, and watch sadly as the performance graphs tease me with those tall lines. The CPU spikes only last for a second or two and usage generally stays pretty low, but I'd still like to know why it's jumping like that. Disk usage spikes to 99-100% more frequently and stays there a bit longer. I've noticed perhaps very slight performance problems and some mouse lag, but I haven't been able to prove a correlation here.

Regarding drivers, these problems arose without any drivers installed (straight Windows 8 installation). Thinking the obvious, I installed all of Romulus' drivers listed on the ACER web page for this model, but the problems persist... Read more

So about two days ago my family's computer began acting up. When I try to turn it on it will show nothing on the screen and the mouse and keyboard will have no lights on, then after about 5-10 seconds all the fans will begin to spin at high speed until I turn the computer off manually. The first time I turned it on after the initial failure I left it on a while to see if anything would happen. Eventually after about 2 minutes the power light turned red and the computer began to beep. I could not get this to happen again after that. I have tried taking the CMOS battery out, then putting it back in, still did not work. I tried taking out all but one stick of ram for each of the 4 sticks (4 1gb sticks) then turning it on. I also tried turning it on with nothing at all connected to the computer. Nothing has worked. My only guess to why this is all happening is because we've had about 3-4 power outages in the last week. The computer is not hooked up to a surge protector. We have had power outages before and the computer has still worked but maybe this time it just got fried or something. The computer is an HP Compaq DC7900.

Answer:Computer will not boot, fans running at full/high speed.

I'd start with swapping out power supply with a known good one of adequate wattage rating. Unless your main board took a lightning hit, this fixes this problem 99% of the time. Sounds like power supply is damaged and so you have some voltages, but not all of them at correct level.

I got a R850 and complete random the laptop lockups. When it locks up fans begin to spin full speed and windows is locked up. I need to poweroff the laptop and start again.

This can happen three times on a evening, but it can also occur only ones a week.

Its complete random.

Answer:Tecra R850 - sometimes OS stuclocks-up, fans spin on full speed

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what happen exactly.
Every new notebook is delivered with clean preinstalled OS and something like this should not happen. Later when you start to install updates or own applications it can happen that some background application ?blocks? the system.

In my opinion either you must check preinstalled stuff, processes that run in the background to see which one can be responsible for this, or you must install recovery image again and check how it works with ?factory settings?.

Hey there, i changed my computer case about 3 days ago, all went well, only a few minor issues that were fixed, PC was running fine all day today, went out then when i came back turned it on and all is fine, after about an hour i decided to start a game (League of legends) all was fine until the loading screen came up, suddenly i heard my computer fan getting faster and faster and louder, before i knew it the fan is running extremely fast and the PC just shutdown instantly.

Now whenever i try to boot the PC the motherboard beeps and windows will load, but the fans are going at maximum speed, and again the PC will eventually just turn off after about 30 seconds (i believe its my GPU fan) i have tried replugging the wires and my graphics card but this has not worked.

Alert! Unable to initialize fan controller, Alert! Front chassis fan failure, Alert! Rear chassis fan failure, Alert! CPU 2 fan failure, Alert! Hard drive fan failure, Alert! Air temperature sensor not detected.  Select F1 to continue, F2 to run setup or F5 to run diagnostics.
If I select F1, the workstation boots up and the fans are running at full speed.
I've updated the bios & made sure all of the components are clean.

Hi,I was wondering if anyone from Lenovo support (or a fellow user) could recommend a Lenovo sponsored solution for the problem regarding the fan in the keyboard tray always running at full speed on the Helix? I know there are a bunch of 3rd party fan control solutions out there, but some users have cautioned that they cause unexpected touch screen problems. When I use my Helix to remote login to other computers, the fans in the keyboard dock slow down and stop, and the noise difference is incredible. It would be so much better if the Helix was always that quite... Any solutions? Thanks!

Answer:Helix Fans in keyboard portion ALWAYS running at full speed

I doubt if TPFanControl will cause any touch screen problems. If you want to be cautious, you can set it 0 PRM fan speed < 55 degrees Celsius.

Hi,

when I boot my PC, the monitor stays blank, the gpu cooler runs at full speed and I get the 1 long 3 short beep code from bios indicating malfunctioning RAM. Nonetheless, the system boots, but without a video signal. After shutting it down and restarting, the system fires up just fine and runs smooth as ever. That happens only if I leave the PC turned off for some while.

Before that, I had sudden powerlosses while playing games. Therefore I replaced the PSU. After that the troubles described above began.

The operating system is Windows 7 64 bit

My hardware:

Mobo: ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe
RAM: 4Gb Corsair XMS
CPU: Phenom II X6 1090t
Power: Enermax Revolution87+ 550W
GPU: XFX 6870

I have read, that several others had similar issues, but none could come up with a solution. The best solution I found, was replacing my GPU, which is a PCI-E 2.1 version, by a GPU that uses PCI-E 2.0. But that's what I'd like to do least. Especially since there should be no complications between PCI-E 2.1 and 2.0.

I am desperate for suggestions.

Yours

Keeping this as short as possible here is my issue. This laptop is going on four years old, normal wear and tear is expected. I've kept it quite immaculate throughout though. Every week defrag, every day clearing caches, anything you can name to keep this thing as up to date as possible I've done. My wonderful wifey downloads and never looks back so this thing would've already set fire if it weren't for me retracing her steps;)

But, right now, just tonight actually, I closed every program down and ran tuneup utilities to game mode to shut down unneeded services. Even still with all of the specs you see, I noticed that as the game progressed, maybe I played two hours or so making sure to keep all vents free and clear (and I've modified the stock vent covers to allow much more direct air to the fan which has gotten bi weekly cleanings since it's been getting louder), well the computer kept getting slowly louder and louder. It was easy to see that it was beginning to strain for some reason. So I checked the cpu usage and it was normal, the program was pulling about 400,000k though which I think is a bit high......and the fan never ceased. Even with extra air blowing onto the underside it seems that it just went faster and faster as if if was being overloaded, but this couldn't have been the case. I even turned off wifi....maybe it would help a bit. But, the pc does not and has never overheated. All drivers are up to date as of last week minus a BIOS flash, which is still sto... Read more

Answer:Laptop heating/cooling/fan noise/cpu usage inquiry! (All in one)

I had the same problem with my Dell desktop computer. granted it was 8 years old, but the fan would be really overloaded as the evening went on. I put it down to overheating (as it was a slim-line case).
I have heard that laptops are never actually designed to last more than about 4 years, partly due to the manufacturers design (cos they want you buying another one) and partly because a lot of power/hardware is crammed into a tiny space.
Even after cleaning it out, removing dust, and all the things you do to keep it running perfectly its possible it was only designed to last around 4 years. and therefore there is very little you can do about it.

Obviously i might be wrong with this option...and there may actually be a reason for why its struggling (please inform me if this is the case, or if im wrong on any point). but it is possible it was never ment to last....sorry :/

Question: CPU usage up full

For the past few weeks I've noticed my CPU usage is up full yet when I look in task manager, the processes running seem normal. Could this be a virus?

In task manager, did you click "View processes from all users"?

Also check the "Resource amnager" button on the performance tab of the task manager and select the CPU tab and sort by CPU use there and see if something shows up.

Really bad problem. I've been working on it for a few days now. I power on the machine, the fans immediately start whirring at full speed (loud), nothing shows up on screen, the machine powers itself down in about 40 seconds. I've tried removing the battery, removing the cmos and replacing it, using the novo button (same thing happens), holding the button for 20 seconds, etc, etc. Starting to be pretty much at a loss. No POST, access to bios, nothing. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

First of all I apologize if this is in the wrong thread I was in two minds where to post it as i'm not 100% sure what my problem is.

Here it goes; For the past month or so my PC has been going crazy, in the sense that when I play music whether it be through my browser or media player/itunes. The sound crashes and and then my CPU rockets up I know this because I have a CPU meter gadget on my desktop and I see on the graph it is very irregular always at the highest peak of usage.

This can occur at any time, even as as I googled 'Seven forums' my PC lagged like crazy and the mouse cursor was moving many second after I moved my mouse. This mainly happens when I am playing music and/or using my webcam on Skype whilst talking to friends. I thought it was a flash player bug as I found that on google I tried downgrading it and that didn't work I then changed browsers from Firefox to Chrome, but to no avail.

I checked the 'Performance' tab under task manager and It shows also in the graph the CPU usage is at it's highest and the % of usage is usually 99%, it also tells me I have 1.72GB of memory. Also checked the resource manager various times and under the CPU tab I see multiple processes can vary at being at the top of the list, A few on these are 'Avastsvc.exe' 'Perfmon.exe' 'system interrupts' also flash player and firefox have been at the top a lot when I was using that browser. I'm sorry if i'm vague but this really isn't an area I am familiar with.

Hi all,

Recently installed the 64 bit Windows 7, and my CPU usage is constantly at or near 100% whenever I open WMP. Just to give a quick run-down of my system, I have:

-- Intel Duo E8400 3GHz
-- ECS G31T-M mobo
-- 2x2GB RAM
-- XFX nVidia 8800 ultra

I searched on Google and found that somebody said it caused by WMP Network Sharing Service, so I disabled this service but the problem still remains. I tried on other player like iTunes or Real Player, it was fine, the CPU usage always belows 10%.

Does anybody have the same problem or know how to fix this?

Hi,

i have 16GB of RAM ([email protected]) but when i left my PC over night on without any task, in morning it has message that my RAM is full and i have to shut down programs to not loose data. But In Task Manager i see programs like Firefox using at max 500MB, the overall usage of my account on PC is about 1200MB out of 16GB. But the graph is showing usage 15,4GB / 16GB. There is no program visible in Task Manager showing that kind of RAM usage. I have Samsung 640 SSD driver (120GB). Is it problem with that or how can i solve it? The RAM builds up over time if i do anything but its not cleaning herself, for example after 4 hours of using PC:

Task Manager:
In Use 7.0 GB
Available 8.8GB
Comitted 7,3/18,8 GB
Cached 4.6 GB
Paged Pool 405MB
Non-paged pool 4,9GB
Speed 2400MHz
Used slots 2 of 4
Form factor DIMM
Hardware reserved 114MB

It builds up and than at about 15,5GB it tells me i have to shut down programs. It doesnt matter what programs i use, it doesnt seem to be specific memory leak from 1 program.

I have run full scans with KIS and NIS and not been able to really use my pc without slow downs. Avast is still running a full scan but yet I have no slow downs as I use my pc. Also look at my cpu monitor in the top right corner.

Answer:Memory,CPU and I/0 Usage while running a full scan

You can improve avast's scan speed and resource usage by enabling the usage of persistent cache in the settings for that specific scan. You can also adjust a scan's priority if needed.
[attachment=156][attachment=157]
Edit: Yes, I know it is not a new feature and the adjustments might not even be needed since avast scans pretty fast with default settings. It just shows that the authors care about resource usage.

Two weeks ago my Quark 7 stopped working - it will start and come up with the splash screen, but then will not go any further - a list of processes shows it's running at 50 cpu usage and 78944 memory usage. I have tried uninstalling reinstalling and have ran Norton's Antivirus, Spybot Search and Destroy and CCleaner to no avail. I have attached my HiJack log below.

The main programs that I use daily (and yes Quark is one of them) are the following

Adobe Photoshop CS3, ACDSee 9, Outlook express, Quark 7.0, Internet Explorer, Dreamweaver 8

Thank you for taking the time - I'm pretty frustrated!

so like the title says i have been using Brinks method to reset Data Usage by deleting the SRU folder contents , now somehow the SRU folder decided to stop rebuilding data , so i would like of all who has any sort of knowledge about this topic to supply tips regarding :
1 - If there is an MS Fixit app dedicated for that issue ?
or
1 - Appropriate folder permissions for the SRU folder
2 - Registry entries related to data usage and folder
3 - Services that regulates/operates data usage
to help me trouble shoot that issue ?

thanks in advance !

Edit: Posted this on the wrong forum! DOH. Reported as this is for Windows 8, not 7.

Windows 10's message was typically IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, suspecting a driver issue I reformatted to 8.1 which I am on now. The message I'm getting now is PFN_LIST_CORRUPT.

Hardware/full build: Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core, GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GAMING X 8G, Node 804 MicroATX Mid Tower - System Build - PCPartPicker

My strongest suspect is memory, however HeavyLoad ran for 4+ hours maxing both memory and CPU before the system decided to restart. I also ran a Memtest86+ which passed multiple times. I still suspect a memory problem though as I am unable to boot the system with 4 sticks installed unless I have the XMP profile already activated. 3 sticks is fine, 2 sticks is fine, 1 stick is fine, different ports are fine. I tried different sticks in different slots and no change.

Tonight I am getting a lot of the following errors in the event log. This is while the computer was remaining idle on the login screen. I'm running WoW now and there are none to be seen.

Hi,
I have a i7 3770k at 3.9 ghz, so stock with turbo boost.
I tried oc'ing to 4.5 ghz, didnt fix the problem.
Basically, in some games i get high cpu usage and at the same time low gpu usage.
My system is i7 3770k, gtx1070, 16 gb ddr3 ram, corsair hx850i psu.
In witcher 3 novigrad, which is cpu heavy, i sometimes get gpu usage at like 70% which causes stutter, at the same time cpu usage is around 85%.
When i leave town i get 95-99% gpu usage again and my cpu usage drops.
Dying light same, if cpu usage is high my gpu usage drops.
Battlefield 1 is normally fine in 95-99% gpu usage, except st quentin, but others reported this too.
What can this be? My cpu shouldnt be bottlenecking. Like i said i trid overclocking, didn't help.
nvcp is set to prefer maximum performance and i'm playing at 1440p 144hz.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all, hope you can help.

Every so often, when listening to online radio streams/playing games etc my computer just goes crazy. I get a lot of hard drive 'chatter' and lots of fan noise and everything slows to a crawl. My music will start jumping and skipping and there is a long delay between me clicking the mouse and the action happening. It happens when no other programs (for example, my AV/AS) are due to scan. When I look at my Task Manager the two biggest eaters of memory usage are fm.exe (game, it normally eats a load but makes no substantial difference to the comp speed) and ekrn.exe (something to do with my AV, not quite sure what it actually does though)

I am running Windows MCE SP3 and am using NOD32 anti-virus and Sunbelt CounterSpy anti-spyware. The definitions on both are updated daily and both scan daily. I have also defragged the comp and do so weekly. The other programs I use are CCleaner and Glary Utilities, both fairly regularly to clean up my comp when I was working as an internet researcher, but less often now.

I do not get any error messages/BSOD's or actual freezes. Everything just slows right down. Could I have picked up a form of malware/virus that my AV/AS isn't picking up? Could one of my previous spring cleans have been too aggressive? Or is it simply too much load for my comp (2 year old Dell)? It is 3MHz, 1G RAM, kinda your bog standard media comp from 2007.

Your thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated as it's starting ... Read more

When you experience or encounter strange behavior, always check for new, unknown or suspicious processes in Task Manager. Most of the processes in Task Manager will be legitimate as shown in these links.List of common system processes found in XP's Task ManagerCommon system processes found in XP's Task ManagerTop System ProcessesAnytime you come across a suspicious file or one that you do not recognize, search the name using Google or the following databases:BC's Startup Programs DatabaseSystemLookup StartupList IndexFile Research CenterProcessLibrary.comDetermining whether a file is malware or a legitimate process sometimes depends on the location (path) it is running from. One of the ways that malware tries to hide is to give itself the same name as a critical system file. However, it then places itself in a different location on your computer. Another techinique is for the process to alter the registry and add itself as a Startup program so that it can run automatically each time the computer is booted. Ok, I am literally KILLING myself over this!

I installed Windows 7 64Bit over XP around a month ago and it was so good that I recommended it to my brother who was previously on XP too. We got him a copy of the 32bit version as he has only 2gb of memory, and he installed it on his machine. However, he constantly had high CPU and RAM usage (Even though no programs were obviously taking it all up in his task manager) and it was making his computer sluggish and slow. Everything was freezing and hanging and it was a nightmare.

I spent a day looking all over the net to find out the problem, but could not fix it at all, no matter what the hell I tried. So he reverted back to Windows XP. (A nice waste of money on Windows 7.) His Windows XP now runs smoothly and is all as it was.

Suddenly today, after my brother connected to my Windows 7 homegroup (or workgroup rather) through his Windows XP machine, my computer got the EXACT same problem as he had ages ago! I have been browsing Google all day downloading s**t, changing things in my computer, trying EVERY possible fix that people have suggested and that sound legit. Nothing works!

So now all of a sudden, my computer is sluggish, games are jumpy and jittery, video rendering times are slooooooow.

Here is a picture of my resource monitor:
You can see the physical memory usage being at 45%. I've ordered the memory usage of each service in highest to lowest.
I just CANT see where the problem is!
(I've tried leaving my homegroup to see... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 random CPU usage and high physical memory usage!!!

I can tell you what is probably causing your problems. AVG.
When you are looking at memory, do not sort by Working set, sort by Hard faults.
Hard faults is what causes things to slow down. Plus you have plenty of memory not to worry about usage.

Hi,

I just bought my brand new laptop and have loaded Vista Ultimate 32bit onto it for about 5 days. I noticed something unusual about Vista's CPU usage while idle in the task manager as well as the Resource monitor.

I have attached two pictures to show my problem. Notice that my CPU usage is always at about 40-60% on both of my cores. However, the average CPU usage per process shows that it should actually occupy about 15% to at most 20% (by adding up all the highest average CPU for processes in the first picture). The second picture I attached shows the current CPU usage sorted by max usage, and again it does not add up to 41%!

Although at 40-60% usage, I do not notice any major performance impacts, as both cores are not loaded to the max. However, I do notice Vista chewing up more battery than needed when I have my laptop running off batteries. Because the max frequency for the processor would always need to be raised to around 60% even when idle (instead of say... 10-20%).

I have searched online for various problems relating to high CPU usage, and most of the responses are about tracing down which process is the culprit. Well, this is where I'm stumped because it all does not add up! According to the process view, everything is normal but my system resources are still get constantly chewed up by something invisible it seems.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated at this point!

Answer:Vista Ultimate 32: high CPU usage does not correspond with process usage

Posting two more image to show this problem from the task manager...

Notice that the system idle process is 84, and yet CPU usage is 42? I always thought that:
CPU usage + idle process = 100?

Perhaps things are done differently with dual core processors? This is my first dual core so I'm not sure. The second image shows how both my cores are being used roughly equally, at around 50%.

Greetings,

I formatted my computer, and after installing windows 7 again, my physical memory in task manager is very high, and cpu keeps jumping up and down.

I looked at the processes tab, but noticed absolutely nothing taking abnormal memory (private working set.) Then moved on to performance tab> resource monitor, and found svchost (I think it was netsvcs in parenthesis,) hogging all the memory. After ending the process, I still have had high memory usage, and surprisingly, do not see a process anywhere in task manager with high numbers next to it, so I have no idea what's happening.

I have noticed that my windows 7 folder keeps increasing in size, currently about 26 gigs, and a helper told me that it's normal because the updates in windows 7 have a different compression method than windows 8 and after, however when I had previously installed windows 7, fully updated... my folder size was normal, so I assume it can be done?

I originally posted in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs section, however I did not find malware on my computer, so unless it's very new malware, I am certain windows 7 is causing this problem.

For antivirus, I am currently using a free trial of Norton.

Advice?

P.S. This is probably better for the hardware section, but can constant high physical memory, and cpu usage ruin my hardware? I am avoiding using things that take up high cpu and memory right now, and it's currently about 1.2 g... Read more

Hi,

Just yesterday I realized that my computer was acting super slowly and I even received a blue screen of death out of nowhere. Upon checking my processes list,I found many suspicious processes that continued to multiply when I tried to end them. These included: PresentationHost.exe, msdtc.exe, dllhost.exe, prevhost.exe, cmd.exe, msiexec.exe, conhost.exe, and even a notepad.exe that seems to be invisible. A malware is most likely behind this, and is causing my computer to perform very slowly and be almost unusable, I have managed to run FRST, but Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not even opening for me. In addition, this multiplying issue seems to only occur when I am connected to the internet. I would highly appreciate some help!

Recently my computer has been plagued by High CPU and general malware. I believe i've removed most of the malware. But I can't seem to fix the issue with the dllhost.exe and multiple explorer.exe running.

First i ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit. Found lots of issues. all resolved. Ran them recently again and no malware was found. Still have the explorer.exe issue though.

Then I used combofix, but it changed nothing.

In the meanwhile i've just been ending the explorer.exe processes that take high CPU. This allows me to temporarily use my computer before they start popping up again.

Answer:dllhost.exe, multiple explorer.exe's, high CPU usage, and memory usage

I don't know what you need me to post. Hopefully this might provide some insight.

My friend, who has a very low income was given a Dell Optiplex GX240 running Win2K Pro. 512MB RAM

To help her out, I got rid of porn, viruses, and spyware using:

Ad-Aware, AVG spyware and AV free versions, Trend Micro House Call, Spybot

I checked the task manager, and has constant 100% CPU usage, avg memory usage

The system runs, but apps open slow, so I tried some freeware reg cleaners:

CCleaner, Eusing Free Registry Cleaner, Wise Registry cleaner

After hours of searching on web, the fixes I found don't work, so I give up. Can someone help. My friend doesn't have the money to pay someone to fix this, and she was so happy to get a new computer.

Can anyonre help???

Hi

I wish to be able to control the speed/rate in which Internet explorer accesses/downloads sites.

I want to able to slow Intrenet Explorer yet keep Mozila Firefox at its normal rate.

So i don't wish to slow all applications and their access to the internet, just Internet Explorer.

What i am trying to do is to limit the usage that IE uses, e.g. max of 5MB/hour, but i don't wont it to reach the limit then just stop working, I want it to be constant so that it can keep working yet not exseed a limit.

Is this possible?

If so how can this be done?

Thank you to all who contribute to this question i appreciate it!

My computer's speed has dropped pretty drastically over the past month or two. Firefox has been shutting itself down almost regularly now and when I search from google on IE almost everytime I click on a link it redirects me to some other site. I've tried all my spyware numerous times, my Norton, CCleaner, etc. but nothing seems to help. Any help would be appreciated.

For over about a month now my DSL internet has been dropping randomly. It disconnects completely for a few seconds to fifteen minutes, then picks back up. This happens usually every twenty or so minutes, it's very random, so this is just a mode. The speed itself is not affected (when it's on, it's fine). I've been able to determine that the reason is somewhere on my desktop.

It's a HP Envy with intel i7 3.40 GHz. About a year and three months old, and using windows 8. I typically use google chrome for browsing, only occasionally firefox. I am connected to my internet wirelessly, which is broadcasted from the router a floor beneath me. The router is plugged into a phone jack, shared with the house phone (no problems with the phone what-so-ever). Tbaytel is my provider, and I use Kaspersky antivirus. Network details; Speed-72.0 mbps. Sent-13,936,*** and counting. Received- 244,015,*** and counting. Security type is WPA2-Personal, Encryption type is AES and we have a security key set up (That we recently changed to see if it would help, and of course it didn't).

This is what's scary;

Processes under the task manager brought up nothing, but looking at the Wi-fi under the Performance tab showed that something is definitely going on. The amount of Wi-fi usage spikes HUGE amounts! But at the time I took this screenshot, I was only running an antivirus full scan (which turned up nothing), google chrome on this site, and had both the task ... Read more

Answer:Internet cutting out from MASSIVE usage, but usage not accounted for.

About your new router...
How long have you been using it or since when did you got it?
How long has it been opened? Have you tried powercycling it? (Turning it off and then on)

Also, Have you tried testing it while your laptop is directly plugged in on your router with an ethernet cable? (Try speedtest.net)

Does this happen to other of your computers or device?
Does Tbaytel do line testing when you called them?

Hi,
I have a i7 3770k at 3.9 ghz, so stock with turbo boost.

Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.
After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.

HELP!My computer has become ridiculously slow, taking minutes to do nothing. The computer is quite old (4-5 years), but has had XP and MS Office installed fom Day 1. I have not added any other software which might explain the slowness. When the computer is slow, if I Ctrl:Alt:Delete, the CPU usage is sometimes very high (80%) or above, but not always, however, the Page file usage history is always at least 80/90% of capacity (value reads as nearly 400Mb).What is the page file usage history? Is this likely to be why my computer is slow and can any settings be changed, or do I have to bin the computer and buy one which works? Thanks

Answer:CPU usage / Page File Usage History? - slow PC

Softwarea) Clear out all temporay files and folders -- use Crap Cleaner click hereb) Scan for malware spyware and viruses --Free Anti Spyware :- Adaware click hereSpybot S&D click here Spywareblaster click here a2 click hereWindows Defender click hereFree Antivirus softwareAvast4 click hereorAVG antivirus click herec) Clean the registry -- Free Registry cleaners :- RegscrubXP click hereRegseeker click hereTweakNow RegCleaner 1.3.2 click hereEasycleaner click here ( Use with care, It advises you to back up the registry first, this is a good idea as it cleans rather aggressively. ) d) Pagefile (Virtual Memory) -- Rght click MY Computer - select propeties - Advanced tab - Performance - advanced tab - Virtual memory click change, you can put the page file on a differnt drive (if you have one), click custom size and set Initial size to one and a half times the amount of memory you have fitted i.e. 512MB memory = set to 768MB, set maximum to double your memory amount i.e. 512MB memory = 1024MB click ok.If your hard drive is full and there is not enough room for the pagefile this can slow down, freeze or even cause the PC to crash (restart).e) Cut down on the programs that load at startup -- Start - Run type msconfig - startup tab- untick everything except for firewall, antivirus and antispywareand the services that run in the background. click here

I have 50GB of hard drive space reporting as unusable, seems to be the system restore data. Disk Cleanup reports the max limit for system restore is set to 7GB, but the actual used is 50GB. How can the actual exceed the max quota? I deleted all previous restore points, and did a disk cleanup, but nothing changes.

Hi folks

I posted this problem at Spyware Specific forum, but was advised to post here.

Recently when I use RealProducer Plus v.10 to convert mpeg2 clips to rmvb, it takes a long time to do so. When I checked, RealProducer utilises over 90% CPU usage - as much as 94-95%, causing total CPU usage to be 95-98%. I have scanned with Norton and Adaware - all ok. Then I used Spy Sweeper - it found and cleared Csmin. Howveer, the problem still remains when I use RealProducer.

CPU usage without using RealProducer

CPU usage using RealProducer

Will my CPU will be damaged if CPU usage is so high?

Please help to take a look at my .exe processes. Are they OK?
What is PQV2iSvc.exe?

Please advise. Thanks a lot!

Answer:RealProducer utilises over 90% CPU usage? Will high CPU usage damage CPU?

To answer your question about PQV2iSvc.exe is part of Power Quest drive image and Norton Ghost drive backup software.

Converting video formats can be a resource intensive process. Unless your system temps are getting really high there shouldn't be any damage to the CPU.

I have the following config-> Windows XP Professional SP2 which I have been using for the last 3 years.-> Updated Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 running for the last 1 year.-> No new software were installed in the last month that I can recall of.Suddenly I get this problem:1. I ran an application one day (it was winrar), and nothing starts.2. Task manager shows CPU usage as 50 (I have dual core), while memory usage remains at 84k3. After a few days vlcplayer.exe started giving the same problem-> So, I reinstalled windows (formatted my C drive and installed a fresh copy). -> Everything worked fine. I was using Irfanview.exe with no problems, but then one day again, IrfanView.exe did not start. Same problem : CPU usage was 50% while memory remained really low.-> I uninstalled it from C:/program files and installed a new copy in C:/program files --- this did not solve the problem-> I uninstalled it again from C:/program files and installed to D:/ Now it works fine...-> But now again I got the same problem with media player.exeI have tried a virus scan with Kaspersky (updated) and a scan with spybot. They both came out to be clean.Any ideas?I cant reinstall Windows as that did not solve the problem.

Answer:CPU usage increases to max (while memory usage doesnt) when I run a application

I dont know if this helps: I read somewhere about creating a drive image for easy backup. So I tried DriveImageXML, but it gave an error regarding CRC check which related to bad sectors i suppose. I ran a scan disk before installing a fresh copy of Windows. Obviously, this hasnt helped either.

I have been having a big problem the last week with my computer. Everything is running incredibly slow. I opened the windows task manager, and it has shown very high CPU usage, often fluctuating between 80% and 100%, though sometimes staying between about 5-20%. The page file usage has been conistently high, the lowest being in the mid-600 kbs, while most often staying around 720 or 730 kbs. These patterns seem to be unaltered by the amount of programs I have running (the problem occurs even when there are absolutely no programs running) or whether I'm on the internet or not. I am very ignorant when it comes to computers, but I suspected it was some sort of spyware problem. However, after scanning with Norton 360, Spybot's Search and Destroy, Lavasoft Ad-Aware, and Microsoft Defender, only a few low-level threats showed up, and fixing them led to no improvement in my computer's performance. The slow functioning seems to be directly related to the times when the CPU usage is high.

My OS is Microsoft XP. My processor is 1.73 GHz. I have 504 MB of RAM. I will attach my HijackThis log below. I hope I haven't forgotten any necessary information, but I would appreciate any help you can offer. I'm becoming very frustrated.
