Keyboard goes berzerk on screen lock function

Question: Keyboard goes berzerk on screen lock function

Hello,

it appears to be problems when I lock my computer. When I start typing my keyboard is completely broken. I'm not sure about what the problem is, but it seems all the meta keys have gone bananas. In Linux I would simply solve it by pressing all the Metas like ctrl, alt etc, but this doesn't work here.

So, right now; Screen Lock is the same as Reboot computer. Do you have any advice for me?

Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Keyboard goes berzerk on screen lock function

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is it possible to force the function lock key 'on' during boot-up with a wireless keyboard

Answer:winxp force function lock wireless keyboard

Ripped from another site:The new Microsoft keyboards assign actions such as Save or Open to the function keys. To enable the default functionality of a function key without performing the action that Microsoft has assigned to the key, you must press the Function Lock key before you press the function key. Unfortunately, the new keyboards don't contain a programmatic way to set the state of the Function Lock key. Therefore, you can't configure the keyboard to enable the Function Lock key by default; you must press Function Lock every time you start your machine.

Hello! Since the most recent build of W-10 (9879), my caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights do not function on either computer on which I have W-10 installed (a desktop with a USB keyboard and a laptop with an integrated keyboard). The keys still work to correctly toggle the functionality, but the keyboard lights don't work. In case it matters, my keyboard's actual backlights and my mouse's internal light (not the laser, the internal LED) are working correctly, it's just the CL, NL, and SL indicators that don't function.

Anyone have any ideas for fixing this?

Answer:Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock lights no longer function

Welcome to Windows TenForums, Vaindil.

It doesn’t seem to work on anyone’s system and there doesn’t seem to be a fix yet. You can read here into the beginning of the next page if you like.

I have an x61t that when it locks for screen saver password and you have to CTRL ALT Delete the relog back on. the CAPS lock on the onscreen keyboard indicates on but it's not. 1. Log into the tablet.2. The screensaver would lock the tablet.3. Press Ctrl Alt Delete to get to the logon screen.4. The on screen keyboard would show the Caps Lock key as on but it wasn't. If they pressed the Caps Lock key it would then be on.5. The users don't press the Caps Lock key now, even though it is being displayed as on, and they can logon OK. I cannot recreate this problem on another X61tablet and this behaviour happens even when the notebook is in a docking station with an external keyboard.  anybody seen this error before?

Since the latest update (It introduced the slide show of pictures on the lock screen. I think it is KB3124200) I haven't been able to press Enter or Space or any other key for that matter to "slide up" the lock screen photo to get to the password screen. I've looked through the lock screen settings, but I see nothing that could prevent this. Does anyone know why this is and a possible fix for it?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Not able to press keyboard to get from lock screen to password screen

Okay, I think I've figured out a solution.

What I did was right click the desktop and choose "Personalize", then choose "Lock Screen" and switch "Show Windows background picture on the sign-in screen" to "Off".

I have no idea as to why this would change anything, but it did solve my problem, and I don't need the Windows logo background, so I'm happy!

Hope this help

About 1 month ago I did a clean install of Windows 10 for the first time.

All has been well, until recently when my PC went to sleep, and when I woke it, the screen wouldn't wake up, so I had to hard reset it. At this point Windows installed some updates and it seemed to be ok.

Today I cold booted and when I got to the Windows 10 lock screen, the keyboard and mouse do not work. I can confirm that they do work at POST and in Windows 7 on my other drive. When I get the Windows 10 boot screen, the num lock light on the keyboard goes out as does the optical light on my mouse. Both are USB.

I've done some googling and so far I can only see options to reinstall windows, or restore it.

Windows 10 seems to be unusable now, can anyone help get this working?

I could not find where to set the default behaviour of keyboard.

Ok, so I've been having this issue for about a week now where my keyboard and mouse won't work once I reach the Windows 10 lockscreen. They work just fine in the BIOS, but beyond that, not so much as an LED works on either one. They also work in the Windows recovery menu, for some strange reason. I've tried a different mouse, just to see if maybe it wasn't just my stuff, but the issue still persisted.

I've tried every sort of trouble shooting you can imagine. Played around with all the USB settings in the BIOS several times, and still nothing. Tried different USB ports and such, to no avail. I've reset the BIOS. I've tried restoring to a previous version of Windows, I've tried various advanced Windows recovery options, and still nothing.

I am NOT able to get a PS2 mouse and keyboard or an adapter at the moment, so that is out of the question. And, obviously, I'm unable to access my windows options to update anything, as my peripherals aren't working.

Oddly enough, my other USB devices are working, like my WiFi adapter, and my wired controller. It is JUST my keyboard and mouse that don't work.

Any solution anyone might have would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

Is there a way to shutdown using keyboard only, from the initial login screen? It's the same screen as the windows lock screen.

I have tried all the standard keys Alt-F4, Esc, Ctrl-Shift-Esc, Ctrl-Break, etc. but to no avail.

I know that there is a button at the bottom right that you can click to shutdown, but I can't see it to click on it (long story: I have a two monitor setup, and the login screen upon boot will show up on my primary monitor. There's something wrong with primary monitor so now when the computer boots, it sometimes displays on my primary monitor and sometimes it doesn't. During the times when it doesn't, I'll need to shut down and restart, but at the login screen, my primary monitor is not showing so I cannot see the shutdown button to click on it)

Thanks.

I really hope somebody can help me with this! The strangest thing just happened. I carried my open laptop to a different room, and then when I tried to type, nothing would show up and my laptop began making strange clicking sounds.

I rebooted the laptop to see if this would fix the problem. On the lock screen, the keyboard works to allow me to type my password in to enter the laptop. However, once I am at the desktop, the keyboard will not function.

Does anybody have any advice or a solution to this problem? The laptop is only a few months old. It is a Windows 10 Dell Inspiron Notebook.

Hi, I sometimes connect to my Windows 10 PC at my work place from home.
When I was using Windows-7(work place PC), I was able to select the menu button (lower-left) and select 'Lock Screen' menu from the shutdown sub-menu. I recently received a new desktop PC which is Windows-10, but I found Windowns 10 doesn't have such 'lock-screen' menu that I can choose with my mouse. So the only way I can lock the screen is using Window-L button which is ok when I'm at work. But when I'm remotely logged in from my home, if I press Window-L keys, my home notebook is screen locked, not my work place Desktop.
How do I solve this? many thanks in advance.

Answer:how to lock screen instantly without pressing Window-L keyboard?

You can of course also lock your PC from the Start Menu. See Option Two in this tutorial: Lock Computer in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

I have multiple computers with the Win10 (64 bit) update. On two of the computers, if I enter the lock screen by using the Start-L keyboard shortcut, I can exit the lock screen (and enter the log on screen) by clicking the mouse or hitting a key. However, if there has been an extended period of time (e.g. overnight), on one computer I can only exit the lock screen by pressing a mouse button. On another computer I can only exit the lock screen by hitting the keyboard. I would like it to be able to use either to exit the lock screen. Some deltas:
Computer 1 (mouse exit works) has wireless bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
Computer 2 (keyboard exit works) has a wireless keyboard, but it is IR (so the IR receiver is tied to a USB port). The mouse is a Wacom mouse that works with my drawing tablet. The tablet is attached via USB.
I upgraded both computers from WinXP 64bit, and did not have this issue.
Any ideas? I'm thinking the devices must be entering some quiescent state when 'off' for a period of time, but, like I said, this did not happen with XP.

Computer boots to a beach scene with clock(lock screen), but unable to do anything except turn PC off. Keyboard and mouse are disabled on boot. Tried every option from restore to recovery and system says it's unable to perform them. I don't have restore disks or any files to boot from jump drive. So need files to put on jump drive to boot with so I can reinstall Windows. This computer was upgraded since purchase to Windows 10.I don't want to lose files on PC so plan to rename folders in command prompt where personal files may be. Please help me where they may be so I can do this. I do IT work but don't have HP knowledge. Many years ago I would just rename windows folder then reinstall windows then copy folders I need from old folder then deltree old windows folder. I'm sure there is a partition with the windows files but not sure I'll be able to get Windows 10 back, but not worried about that at this point. Would just like to get computer functioning again and not have it be just a clock now. Thanks in advance. Stephen

Hello fellows,
Yesterday I set my Bulgarian keyboard layout to be the default one and my German to be the secondary. Then I shut down and today when I tried to log in, only the Bulgarian layout was enabled (Cyrillic letters) and I can't switch to the German layout (Latin letters). You guessed it - my password uses Latin chars . The key combinations Alt+Shift or Win+Space are not working. Password reset works only with pre-made passdisk or something like that (I haven't set one). I tried going to Troubleshoot mode, but couldn't find anything helpful there yet. Running the command prompt troubleshooting option gave me the opportunity to change the keyboard layout, enter my password and use the cmd prompt. There I tried to use the "control" command to set the keyboard layouts but it doesn't recognise the "control" command. Maybe I have to navigate somewhere else (default was system32).
I would greatly appreciate any help

Thank you

Since today morning I am not able to login to my Win10 PC. It starts normal until the lock Screen appears. The clock in the lock Screen is working, so everything seems to be ok. But the System does not react on any keyboard or mouse Input.
The Keyboard is working perfectly in the BOOT Menue (after F2 during Startup). So I am quite sure that this is not a hardware problem.
Can anyone helb me ?

Answer:Win10 - Lock screen does not react os keyboard or mouse input, what can I do?

I seem to have a similar issue, where my keyboard on one boot works fine at the lock screen, and the next time it does not. When the keyboard doesn't work, neither does the mouse. However, I am able to "swipe up" on my touch screen to enter my pin code.
I think it may be a bug that makes it think a touch screen is enabled without keyboard and mouse, even though my keyboard and mouse are attached. If you're having that issue without a touch screen, then the issue is more serious than I thought.
I wish I had a workaround.

I was infected by the Antivirus soft (expletive). Here is my original description. Still can't log into windows normally. My keyboard and mouse stop responding at the login screen and the cursor freezes. Fortunately they still work in safe mode. Hello....brand new to this, so sorry if this is posted incorrectly. Problem: tried to download harddrive cloning program to fix my laptop that was indicating an eminent hd failure. Got infected with Antivirus Soft. Realized it immediately. Downloaded PC Tools Internet Security and paid for it, according to instructions I found online with another computer. Those instructions said run scan before rebooting computer, but the program said the computer needed to be restarted to work. Against my better judgement, I restarted the computer. When windows login screen came up, both the keyboard and mouse froze before I could enter my password. Would not move or allow any data entry....just hung up. Searched for possible ways to fix this and everything indicated to boot into safe mode, which I did and fortunately both keyboard and mouse work in safe mode. Ran system scan with pc tools and it found some of the antivirus soft problems along with whatever else it found. Further researched these problems and came across malwarebytes anti-malware and downloaded it. Ran that a few times and it found some of the same stuff. Came across this website and youtube solutions describing the combofix, so I ran that too. The computer still works in s... Read more

Hi,

how to disable Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages?

I have desktop pc with two keyboards usb and bluetooth. Also TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack software, but in device manager: keyboard > hid keyboard device both using microsoft drivers. And I dont have any software installed for keyboards. Also bluetooth has separate system tray indications (it is also disabled) so its not that. I made some googling and found other fix it with Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General KeyIndication set to 0, but I dont have it in registry. Acualy I dont have anywhere in registry KeyIndication. So any ideas how to disable it? Thanks

Answer:Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages

Hi,

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

I have a Satellite C660 which was working fine this morning. When I returned from work and powered it on, the entire keyboard is not working and therefore cannot enter my login details.
The Num lock and Caps lock are lit.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Answer:Satellite C660 - keyboard is not working but Num lock and Caps lock are lit

Hi

Are you able to disable the CapsLock and NumLock?
Can you access the BIOS pressing F2 while powering up the unit?

If this does not work, I would recommend checking an external USB keyboard.
If the USB keyboard would functions, then this means that the internal keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Has this ever happened to anybody: Up until now, I thought I had a pretty decent Envision 19" CRT monitor thats less than 2 years old. Now of all sudden the OSD settings window inadvertently keeps popping up in the middle of the screen so that I can't work on anything. The manual exit and menu buttons don't work either. I've updated the monitor and graphics card driver...all with NO effect. I'm posting this on the forums in an attempt to get at the bottom of this.

I'd say its a fault with the monitor, probably a poor solder joint somewhere. There are very dangerous voltages inside a monitor, so i don't recommend that you open it up.

Question: Function Lock Key

I have recently bought my Lenovo u410, and I seem to have a problem. The media and f1, f2, f3, and etc. keys are on the same keys, and this is where my problems arise; I play games on the computer and I use f1, f2, f3 keys while playing these said games. Whenever pressing the function keys, it instead recognizes it as a media key, and I'm forced to press Fn + F# and this is quite annoying. Answer:Function Lock Key

Good day and welcome to the community.

Have a quick look at: http://service.lenovo.partner-management.com/content/CoursewarePublic/15415/U310_BIOS.swf
Specifically the Configuration tab and the Hotkey Switch item. I believe that in Legacy Mode this will switch the F keys back to standard F1, F2, etc.

Question: Function Key Lock

To change the brightness on my T430, I need to press the FN key + F8/F9, is there any way to lock the FN key so that if I want to change brightness I just have to press F8/F9? Sorry if this has been asked before but I tried searching to no avail.

Answer:Function Key Lock

'afternoon.

disclaimer: these steps work on my X220. your T430 BIOS screens should be largely similar if not identical.
- boot to your BIOS and select Keyboard/Mouse from the Config menu.
- toggle Fn Key Lock to Enabled.
- save and reboot.

in Windows now, you'll be able to press the Fn key, release, and press the desired Fx key. ie no need for Fn+Fx key combo'ing. by pressing Fn twice it locks the effect for the current Windows session. now, pressing the Fx key does not require any Fn key-press. it just executes the function.

note, though that the Fn key double-press lock effect doesn't survive a system reboot. I haven't tested whether it survives system standby or hibernation.

hth a bit.

I have a HP laptop without touch screen capabilities. The on keyboard had water damage so parts of it doesn't work. Hence the need to use the on screen keyboard. My problem is the "DOCK" button is green and I'm not sure what that means, plus I'm not able to type.

Hi, here comes clumsy I. So I'm in the middle of formatting my computer, and I want access to the BIOS-panel. But for some weird reason, the FN key doesn't seem to do anything anymore. Despite the fact that it had worked quite fine up until now. Have I toggled some sort of FN-lock? The computer is less than a week old.  Thanks.

I am trying to access my Boot Menu. I have a Gigabyte Mobo, so the access is F12. Or Delete for BIOS. When I start the computer, and the screen comes up to select, they don't work. I did some research and it appears my FN keys may be locked. How do I unlock them? And is my assumption correct? Is that the reason they don/t work?

These are the options when my computer boots.

Tell us what that screen is you are calling "select", please. If it's the Windows Boot Menu screen with the OS, you're way past the POST BIOS operation and the F12 will have no effect. You need to rapidly tap-tap-tap the F12 FN key as the BIOS is coming up, before it gets to the point where it hands over to Windows. Just explain a little more what that screen is. Thanks.

Hello, Today I found out there is a way to lock the Fn key in the BIOS which allows you to control the media keys on the double function F3-F12 keys, I thought this was a great feature and so I enabled it. Unfortunately it seems that I am unable to type as long as Fn lock is enabled, volume control also doesn't work. I have to press Fn twice for the keyboard and volume buttons to start responding again, but then Fn lock is disabled again. Is there a way to have Fn lock function without the rest of the keyboard losing its function? Because right now, using the media keys is more cumbersome than it was before while I thought it should have made it easier. Any suggestions?

Answer:Fn lock function on T430

Hi, erceve

Yes, this should be possible. There are two possible settings for the Fn key: Legacy and Standard. Legacy Mode works in the traditional sense. The secondary key functions become usable when the Fn key is pressed. Standard Mode takes the approach where the Fn key enables the function keys (F1-F12.) In this mode the function keys become the secondary, not the primary, functions. To enable this, I would disable the Fn Key Lock in the BIOS and then boot as normally. When in Windows, hold the Fn key for about ten seconds. A menu should appear that will allow you to switch the Fn key behavior.

Hope it helps,Adam

Dear all, first a bigh thank you for reading this, i am sorry that my first post in the forum is a cry for help.Had a ThinkPad Edge with windows 7 for a couple of months, and up until a week ago everthing was perfectly dandy. From then on, i experience very randomly (sometimes every 2 minutes, when i watch a movie not at all) occuring interludes of varying lenght during which my touchpad slows down a bit (while the external mouse is fined) and the computer stops registering key board strokes while pressing the mute, volume controll, mike controll and camera controll buttons above the number keys randomly. To round things up, direct links arent followed in mozilla anymore but the html is saved to my desktop and my system recovery points have disapeared (no idea if that is conencted thou). All very odd, and i have no idea where to start troubleshooting. Since i am currently working in cambodia, sending the thing in isnt really an option, antivir doesnt find anything and tomorrow i will reinstall windows and spray insectspray on the keyboard in case i have an ant infestation. sadly, during the writing of this article my keyboard has ceased all communication with me and i'm writing from a friends mac. If any of you have brilliant ideas or need more information about my sustem and such, please reply. Thanks a lot, will now watch house, at least that still worksJake

I have a Tecra A3 and are using it with a Microsoft Comfort keyboard. The problem is that ever since the keyboard drivers have been installed the function keys (i.e. Fn + F2 to change power mode) now carry out additional funcitons i.e Fn + F2 also brings up the My Pictures folder. The strangest on is turning the wirelss network card on or off with the switch on the front of the notebook. This has the additional effect of loading an extra copy of MS Outlook each time it is swithed.
I have the latest version of Microsoft IntelliType Pro (version 5.20.412.0)

Any idea on how to solve this?

Answer:Tecra A3 Keyboard Function keys and Microsoft Comfort Keyboard

Hi

Sorry but you have not explained do you have this problem now using notebook keyboard or external one.

If the problem persists using an external one I think that you can not use Toshiba FN+FX key combinations. Every external keyboard is specific one and in my opinion you should check user?s manuals and check also all additional functions. I am also pretty sure that you are able to configure some special keys on your own.

The issue with WLAN switcher is very strange. Try to remove Microsoft specific software and check if the functionality is like before.

Hello all,

Stayed up way to late watching the election last night....

I can't get my brain around how to limit the size of a sum function. I'm using the following function to count back YTD but I want to limit it to only 12 months back from the absolute reference ($C$9), which is a drop down, because of multiple years of data:

=SUM(OFFSET(C2,0,0,1,MONTH($C$9)))
Should I be using this way or using another function?

=SUM(C2:INDEX(C2:Z2,12)
Thanks!

On the T440 the function lock has to be on for the F1-12 keys to function normally, otherwise they work as their special function.  This is opposite conventional function locks where normally the user must hold Fn and press F# to make the special function happen or they enable function lock and can press the F# keys to get the special function. I have found othre threads that point to a BIOS update that allowed the conventional/standard way of doing this to be enabled but I just updated to the latest version 2.27 and it does not have the Hotkey swap option in BIOS or in windows mobility center. Here are 3 similar threads but for different models.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Function-Lock-Key/m-p/1096829#M86625https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Is-there-a-way-to-reverse-the-Function-Fn-...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/G400s-G500s-How-to-swap-FN-keys/ta-p/1312569 Can there be a BIOS update issued for the T440 to enable this functionality?

Hello,I would like to persistently lock the function keys at my E531 laptop. I know you can switch between function keys and multimedia functions by setting FnLock (Fn+ESC), but unfortunately this setting is volatile: everytime I restart the system (even from power saving mode), it is lost and the keys default to multimedia again. Using this laptop only for "real work", with software that extensively uses the function keys, this is really getting on my nerves...  Is there any way to persistently lock the function keys to generate F1..F12 keycodes? If I'd ever need the multimedia functions, I'll luckily hold down the Fn key before... OS is Windows 8.1. Thanks for any help,Tilmann

Answer:Persistently lock function keys!?

Hi Tilmann,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

To use the function keys to enable the standard functions instead of multimedia functions, go to BIOS by tapping F1 when system starts. Under config tab, go to keyboard/mouse. Change F1-F12 keys to legacy mode. Save and exit BIOS by pressing F10.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hey there! I recently purchased an L450 (model 20DT001DUS Windows 7 Professional) that has an issue with the functionlock, as it's reversed. The indicator (on the individual key) is lit, along with the on-screennotification, but the laptop behaves as if it were not locked. The opposite happens as well, where itappears unlocked but behaves like being locked. I also had dealt with an E450 (running W7 Pro as well) thathad the exact same problem (out of the box, too). It's just quite frustrating at the moment, and any advicewould be appreciated. As a side note, the option of using legacy keyboard functionality (within Windows) and all that doesn't fixthe issue, unfortunately. It simply reverts after the laptop turns off.Thank you!

Hi guys. My Windows 7 laptop crashed and the information on the hard drive was restored from back-up. Now I'm trying to get back full functionality as before.

I value being able to hear when I have turned on or off (sometimes accidentally) things like Caps Lock and Num Lock.

I went to the Ease of Access Center and ticked the box for turning on Toggle function (then hit Apply).

But I still am not getting a beep for Caps Lock (etc.), on or off.

What's my next move please?!

Thanks - Ken18

I have a Dell M1330 Laptop that has served me quite well for several years. I just replaced the keyboard the other day and everything is working fine, except that the new keyboard has a slightly different layout than the old keyboard did. For example, with the new keyboard all the F1, F2, F3, etc.. keys have function secondaries on them like multimedia, brightness, antennae toggle, and so on. My old keyboard didnt have most of these and so when I attempt to use them on the new keyboard they simply do not work. In fact when I use function keys as if I still had my old keyboard installed the functions work, which means it is the software interpretation of the keys that I need to change. Does anybody know how I can fix this so that the keys of the new keyboard and functions match what the keys actually say?

Another thing to add is that some of the new function keys on the new laptop such as antennae toggle were not on my last keyboard at all because they are softkeys on the case of my computer, and I am not sure a function like that would be able to be added to the keyboard mapping at all, but I'm not sure.

Also, I would prefer to not install third party software to accomplish this, even if it means I need to delve into the registry manually. Can anybody help??

After calling up the list using ctrl alt delete I check Lock. Everything was fine for a few weeks but now I hear the computer going out of lock mode at least once every forty-five minutes.I turn on the monitor and the sign in screen is up instead of the no signal advisory. After a short while the function kicks back in.

Should I stop trying to keep the computer in Lock? I've been advised by some never to turn the computer off and keep it in Lock mode when not using it. I prefer having everything loaded up so I don't have to wait between five and ten minutes for everything to load up. I just want to make sure I'm not harming my computer.

Thanks.

Answer:lock function is on but computer continues to start

Um... You seem to be confusing Lock mode and Sleep mode. Locking your computer is not by itself supposed to put your computer into Sleep mode. It is perfectly normal to see the sign in screen when your computer is Locked. Whether a locked computer will go into Sleep mode by itself depends on your Sleep settings, which is a separate issue.

If you don't want your computer to stay on all the time, then a good idea would be to put your computer in Sleep mode when you are not using it. Note: Sleep mode, not Lock mode.

I can only pres Fn+Esc - but it is until notebook is rebooted. I read, that there should be possibility to change it in BIOS, but unfortunately I dont have option to change it inmy version of bios. Is there any chance to do it by another way? (Some utility/software/register modification etc?)I am really upset about locking Fn all the time.  Second problem: I nstalled Hotkey Features on my laptop. Everything works fine, but NumLock ON signalization is allways visible. Once I turn off NumLock, it dissapear whitin 5 sec. I believe, that this permanet signalization is becouse of models WITHOUT numeric keyboard, so there was necessary to make this signalization permanent. Is any way, to remove thos signalization? Thanks for your reply.

Can anyone tell me how to eliminate the lock screen preview and bypass the 'Sign In' button on the lock screen?

I often put my computer to sleep then to bring it back (in Windows 7) I would simply hit the space bar and turn on my mouse and it would go straight to my desktop. Now, I hit the space bar turn on my mouse, and it takes me to the lock screen preview then I hit the space bar and it takes me to a lock screen where I have to click 'Sign In' even though I have no password set.

I'm guessing I'll no longer be able to hit the spacebar, turn on my mouse and go directly to the desktop but if I can hit the spacebar, turn on the mouse, then hit the space bar one last time, that would be satisfactory.

I can access the lock screen settings and I can see all available apps and have set a detailed status app and a couple of less detailed ones. However, when I actually get to the lock screen after having set the apps to appear, there is nothing but the time and date and WiFi in bottom-right corner.

Could this be because I am logging in locally rather than using a MS account?

T470 20HE model Windows 10 64-bitFn key actions are displayed with on-screen icons/symbols (Volume/Mute, Mic, Display brightness), however when I select Caps lock or Num lock, there is no on-screen display.I re-installed the latest Lenovo Power Management Driver and Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 10 but no success. When I open the Display Settings >> Display adapter properties >> Screen configurations, the section "Indicator settings for Numlock and Capslock" is missing. Here are the Lenovo instructions: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/HT002122 See attached file for comparison of the Screen configurations settings and my actual settings. Interestingly, in the Lenovo Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Laptop 9.0.07 (current version) Readme.txt, (https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n1wvu28e.txt ) there is a reference to a fix in the 9.0.0.6 as follows:<9.0.0.6>
- (FIX) Fixed CapsLock and NumLock OSD issue that the screen configuration
setting function in display adaptor properties control panel may not
work. Please advise if there is another fix to show the Capslock and Numlock on the display.

Good afternoon,

I just did a clean install of 7 to fix errors with my laptop, and it fixed one, but not the other main issues,
My caps lock, and number lock button on the keyboard don't have a light on it and the pop up that is supposed to pop up doesn't show up on screen.
I figured by doing a clean install it would all magically appear again... I was wrong, I have tweaked everything I could think of looking/trying to change setting from the keyboard in control panel, (including messing around with ease of use) and Gateways so called "support" area was of no help, as well as googling the issue has led me down a path of useless tips, I have also looked on this forum for help.

Any help in this area would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Answer:Caps Lock/Num Lock, on screen pop up gone Gateway NV77

Ok, I have a problem I have set up the sound, and it does not play a sound.

If you are using Windows 8, then it is important to note that the on-screen indicators for Num Lock and Caps Lock are not available in Windows 8. To know more about this, you can refer to the link below:http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30035/~/no-num-lock-and-caps-lock-indicator If you are using Windows 7, you can check if following the steps below helps:1. Click on "Start".2. Type keyboard in the "Search" field.3. Double-click "Keyboard options".4. Go to "Key settings" tab and then, go to "Key settings" list.5. Locate and double-click "Caps Lock" and select the option "Display Caps Lock status on screen". Click "Finish".6. Follow Step 5 for Nums Lock as well. Hope this will resolve your issue.

Lenovo Y720 So, when I hit caps ock or num lock an on screen display tells me whether capslock or num ock has been pushed. While I appreciate it is helpful for some, in my case it become a hinderance. You need to remove "num lock" for single key print screen request, and if I have a short time frame, I am stuck without being able to screenshot until the num lock indicator goes away.  How do I turn off the on screen display.  Now, before you send me to the previously asked questions of similar nature, I have tried. There is no "display settings" in Control Panel. There is no "advanced display settings" on the settings panel. And there is no way to control it through NVIDIA or Intel graphics settings (that I can see).  Thanks kindly.

Every time I press caps lock, to turn on or turn off, I can't keep typing until some process completes. The icon for capson/capsoff comes onscreen, and while it's there I can't keep typing, until some time passes. Very frustrating!

Answer:caps lock function takes a long time and bogs the computer

can i disable the onscreen icon - maybe that's taking processor time

Ok I've been suffering this issue with Windows 10 for as long as I can remember, and it's stopping me using it as the primary OS.

In short I have two, intermittent issues which nothing I do seems to resolve.

1: After waking up from sleep and typing my username password and hitting return, the screen goes black. Cursor moves, Windows + P operates (Screen options do appear from the right) but doesn't actually make any difference, and I'm stuck having to hard reset because ctrl alt del doesn't work either. This isn't an every time issue, hence googling seems to fail miserably because all the examples are people getting it every time. This, for me, is a 3 in 10 regularity.

2: Logging a user off occasionally sees the lock screen ... locking up. Ironically. Mouse moves, and power button DOES work but that's all that works.

These issues are plaguing me and I just cannot fix them - endless googling has left me empty handed, and I've tried disabling SLI. No help. I've tried disabling apps. No help. Nothing I do makes any difference and event viewer doesn't seem to reveal anything useful either.

Anyone got any idea how I can resolve this?

System is:

132GB SSD OCZ
2TB Seagate HDD
4790K
2x980Ti SLI
32 GB RAM @ 1800 Corsair
Asus Z97-A
Windows 10 & Windows 7 dual boot 64.

Answer:Being absolutely tortured by lock screen lock ups...please help!

Disable Internal PLL Overvoltage. It should be 'Auto' by default. Choose 'Disable' from the dropdown and disable it.

Hi All.

I have a new one installed Lenovo T450s with Windows 10 Entreprise.
I have joined the machine into a domain without some active GPO.
When I'm at home or sitting at a customer and must unlock the screen, it takes a war! It is as if searching for the DNS server for my AD domain as my PC is a member of.
In Windows 7 or Windows 8 there is no problem.
This is not a problem in Windows 7 or Windows 8.
Some have suggestions?

Thank you

Hi! So, I've upgraded to Windows 8 RTM this weekend and I'm having this problem: Every time I boot the PC (shutdown or restart), the Num Lock key is off. Since my password uses numbers, and I'm pretty used to type it with Num Lock, I'd like to keep it always on. It was fine on Windows 7. Now, I've searched for it, and there is the "InitialKeyboardIndicators" key on regedit. I have changed values for all of them to "2", and it didn't work. My BIOS say to keep it always on. Is there anything else that I'm missing?

Answer:Num Lock always activated on lock screen

Netplwiz, or tap num lock before starting password entry.

Besides those, you can check to make sure keyboard is plugged in directly to motherboard instead of add-on card or something.

Using a Dell Latitude D630 Laptop w/ Windows XP...

I updated drivers for my mouse yesterday and they caused my mouse to stop working. In the process of rolling back my driver and uninstalling the mouse software (shouldn't have done that. dumb!) I somehow disabled or uninstalled the keyboard function!!

Now when I boot up I have no keyboard to type in my password, so I can't get any further than that. If I boot up in other modes the keyboard kind of works...the arrows work, the F keys work, and I have been able to get to the c: prompt but wasn't sure what to do from there.

I feel like the solution is so close but everything I've thought of involves typing something in at some point. I tried attaching an external USB keyboard but that didn't work.

Any ideas?

Answer:No keyboard function in XP

Boot to safe mode and do a system restore to a date prior to the problem.

Keyboard: It's some USB hello kitty keyboard, on the package, it listed as compatable with vista.

Problem: I plugged the keyboard in on my vista, windows automatically search for drivers. It popped up saying it's ready to use, but I tried typing on the keyboard, nothing happen. Tried pressing the cap key, no light either.

I tried plugging in another usb port, does the same thing. (usb port is not defective)
I tried plugging the keyboard to my xp laptop, everything installs well and keyboard works. (the keyboard is not defective)

I tried to update the usb driver under device manager. although it prompt to say the drivers are updated, but the keyboard still not working.

Answer:USB Keyboard not function

In device manager, try removing it, aka uninstall it, and then let windows try to refind it, click the scan for new hardware icon.

I've got this issue where, if I try to perform 3 or more functions on my keyboard, my PC will continuously beep loudly until I let go, and will not allow a 4th function to be performed. For example: I can hold down the up, down, left arrows, and it will beep, when I hold down those 3 and an additional 4th button, nothing will happen. This has hurt my uber gaming abilities (lol). But if any of you might know how to fix it, I'd gladly appreciate it.

Answer:3 function keyboard?

Buy a new keyboard.

im useing xp pro sp3 when i use my keyboard some keys dont work etc tryd 3 keyboards and they are the same as mine removed drivers installed drivers still no go all settings set to uk still some keys dont work

Answer:xp pro sp3 keyboard function

It might be the connection to the motherboard. Especially if you are not using a USB keyboard and are experiencing the same exact problem with three different keyboards. Have you tried using the keyboards on another computer?

Check the connection on the motherboard and see if there are pins missing?

Also, if you use USB it might be an issue with drivers. I would go into device manager and go to keyboards and see if there is anything going on with the HID Keyboard Device.

I cant get my filter or sticky keys..its not on my manager...
I need this function to access some sites..I cant use under score or ack....man..I hate this pc......any clues..

Answer:HELP.keyboard function.

I have no idea what you are referring to. If these are special function keys on the keyboard they are dependant on an utility that was loaded when the PC whas first set up. If this is Windows sticky keys you need to go to control panel > accessibility options.
