Atheros drivers over Broadcom hardware??

Question: Atheros drivers over Broadcom hardware??

I have a new Asus laptop (U38N) shipped with W8 and now running W8.1. According to the device manager, both wifi adapter and bluetooth modules are Broadcom. I can't make heads or tails of which driver to use. It's a virtual cornucopia of various drivers from 3 manufacturers when in reality, both hardware components are from Broadcom. Is it common to be running an Atheros driver on Broadcom hardware for instance?
The Asus website shows various combinations of driver versions from Atheros or Broadcom or Azurewave to be used for the Broadcom wireless modules.
Here is what Asus shows for my model (Asus 38N):
Windows 8
Wifi Adapter- Atheros (Version V6.30.59.74) and another Atheros (Version V10.0.0.216)
Bluetooth - Azurewave (Version V12.0.0.3100) and Atheros (Version V8.0.0.214).
Windows 8.1
Wifi Adapter- Only Atheros present (Version V10.0.0.263)
Bluetooth - Broadcom (Version V12.0.0.7900) and Atheros (Version V8.0.1.306)

Preferred Solution: Atheros drivers over Broadcom hardware??

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Atheros drivers over Broadcom hardware??

Hi floepie,

To be sure, you can download HWInfo and view the Network Devices and it will identify exactly what you have:

Note that I do not have wifi on my desktop but yours will be there.

HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download

This should eliminate any doubt as to which drivers you will need. Hope this helps.

I have a Lenovo G70-70 laptop with Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit Operating system. When I try to install the drivers for the wireless adapter from the Lenove web site I get the following error message - "No appropriate driver to be installed." I have tried several times to instal this device driver with no luck. Please advise.
Thank you!

Answer:G70-70 - Error when installing Wireless LAN driver (Atheros,Broadcom)

hi Robert,
Welcome to the Forums
The "No Appropriate Driver to be installed" error usually pops up if the installer can't find the specific hardware ID(s) to install the necessary drivers. This may happen if you have a different type of wireless adapter on your system.
Can you try to install this driver and observe:
WLAN Driver (Atheros, Realtek, Broadcom, Intel) for Windows 7 (64-bit) - Lenovo G70-70
If you still get the "No Appropriate Driver to be installed" error, can you try to follow this guide on how to identify the wireless card manufacturer (or post the hardware ID here). and observe.

I am thiunking about upgrading the wi-fi/bluetooth card in my laptop to one with more capabilities. wifi band coverage etc. I have read that the MAC adresss on the Wi-fi cards is important and that replacing the card will cause the bios not to recognoze it, stopping the machine from working. ( Alledgedly, only certain ranges of mac adresses are whitelisted by the bios ?) 1) Is this correct ?2) If so can anyone recommend cards that would be compatible,  or any ways to get around this issue ?  Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Answer:Upgrade y50 Networking: Wireless(Atheros, Realtek, Broadcom).

Hi ajwales ,
Welcome to the Community Forums .
What Y50 do you have ? Can you post the machine number from the sticker label ?
1. Filtered MAC address or changes therewith from the router would not release from whitelist that easily. The compatiblity device list are coded on the Firmware (BIOS). In some occasion , WLAN connection is not working due to filtered MAC but whitelisted device is different.
2. You can check on OEM recommended FRU list of WLAN cards from the hardware manual under documentation tab from the support site ( just type your model from the search box).
Some searches may direct you on bios modification for the WLAN whitelist for your model as a solution, but be careful as changing / modifying BIOS can brick your machine.

Hope this answered your query , update us how it goes.

This post in a nutshell:Which intel 6xxx series wifi card to choose for my ThinkPad Edge E145, that is not bios hard blocked? Abstract:I've installed PC-BSD 10.1-RELEASE and PC-BSD 11-CURRENT on my Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E145.Everything just runs fine PC-BSD on this notebook is a very good and positive experience, it is impressive how good PC-BSD / FreeBSD functions these days - like everything. Problem:Broadcom BCM43228(a/b/g/n ,bluetooth 4.0) miniPCIe is not supported by PC-BSD/FreeBSD (blame broadcom on their driver policy for this). So I bought me an Atherois AR9280 based WiFi card, which is very good supported with the same functionality and stable running and changed the ugly BCM43228 out, placed the AR9280 in. But bios warning message said this card was hard blocked, I couldn't even boot the machine any longer! Who needs this non-feature, anyhow???   Possible Solution:I do not want to hack the bios, so I contacted the good developers from FreeBSD and Adrian Chadd answered me back, that I might would have success putting in a intel 6xxx series card. Question / Request for help:Could anyone direct me to a non-blocked wlan card database, please?Which intel 6xxx series card to choose for my ThinkPad Edge E145? @Lenovo:Please send the developers at FreeBSD some wifi cards, laptops or stuff, so that they could help out with the enknoted things under the hood of modern laptops.  Hello,I've been experiencing issues with the Broadcom wireless card. I wrote to the assistance many times since when my laptop was in the warranty period but the problem came out again and again... They continued on telling me what to do, always the same procedure, I even told them that this issue wasn't new for the laptop but they always answered with the same things: update the Broadcom drivers, use the automatic troubleshooter, restore the previous status of the system... but this is not called "solving a problem" and my laptop isn't repaired. Now I'm stuck because I'm out of warranty and I don't know what to do, I'd like to receive some help from someone is possible. It happens that the icon at the right-bottom of the screen for the internet connection tells me that there aren't available connections but it's not true: my home Wi-Fi is perfectly running and I didn't turn off the connectivity with the connection button on the keyboard. It's only the Broadcom card that gives this issue, or at least I suppose it because it's always the same problem even updating the drivers. I'd like to have assistance and a definitive solution about it. Thanks in advance.

Question: Atheros drivers

I do a lot of Blue Screen crash debugging in the Crashes and Debugging forums. One set of drivers that I can never seem to find is the Atheros set of drivers for wireless cards. What is the most reliable site to find these?

I have yet to find them on or and have often tried ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows (Atheros?????) but it concerns me that it is a Czech site and that it is unofficial since most of the people updating the drivers are from the US and the company appears to be from the US.

Obviously the best place to get them is from the vendor of the computer or device, but sometimes this is not feasible. I figured I'd ask the drivers experts: where do you find Atheros drivers?

Answer:Atheros drivers

I\we also use this in Crashes and Debugging.

ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows. Had no problems with this.

To find atheros drivers is little tricky because the main website is down.

Thats why all other websites with atheros drivers are connected\linked in

Is this (Atheros Communications) the correct website to get drivers from Atheros? I tried to get to the downloads page from the Atheros homepage, but I couldn't find a link, so I searched for it on Google. However, I don't entirely trust Google when searching for drivers.

That's a legit website. I downloaded the Drivers from there. If not go to Laptop manufacture's website there you'll find it as well.

Hi, yesterday I had an issue with my laptop because I couldn?t connect and detect any Wi-fi network, the Bluetooth device was unavailable too, The network icon just showed available a Ethernet connection but I did not had cable so, I couldn't connect to the internet and I was looking a way to "turn on" the network adapter but I couldn't and I gave up.I download a report from the networks config and it showed the status for the Wi-fi & Bluetooth device as: DOES NOT EXIST (Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 Wireless Network Adapter and Bluetooth Device) Today I turned on my laptop and the Wi-fi was available again, I checked immediately the Lenovo Solution Center App in the section "Instantanea" to compare the changes in hardware and software vs yesterday and in the section for Network Board there is a change, yesterday there was not a available devices for Wi-fi and Bluetooth and today there are both "like they were added today".I'm worry about having the same issue in the future, my laptop is my work tool and if it fails again like yesterday what could I do?Attached a picture of the Lenovo solution center from today showing the difference vs yesterday.

I have found some but there is no .exe file but loads of references to 'server 2000'. Somewhere along the line (been at it all evening and a bit tired and fed up now) I got an error 10 code.
Any help, info, ideas etc would be more than welcome.

I have updated 32-bit Vista Home to 64-bit on a Dell i1720 laptop. I have loaded the required 64-bit Nvidia and WiFi link 4965agn drivers and they work fine. But, for the life of me I cannot get the 64-bit Broadcom drivers to load. The Broadcom FAQ warns not to use Device Manager to update these drivers. Instead, in bold letters, it says to use the latest Driver Installation Software. I have scoured the site for this app but failed to find it. I've concluded that I must be misunderstanding the instruction. Has anyone completed this operation and if so where is the app that allowed you to continue. Or, is there another interpretation?

I have a D-Link DWA 552 Xtreme wireless adapter, and to be quite honest with you, It has been a real drag having that thing. MY MBP gets 22MBPS but my Gaming pc gets 2.3MBPS. I got the current driver running from D-Links website but its still causing the computer to crash and get a real crappy internet speed. I will open another thread with more information about this problem and more specific. But the real question is will a updated Atheros Wireless driver help? Does Atheros have anything to do with D link? I read this in a diffrent post, just want some clarification. Thanks!

Answer:Atheros Wireless Drivers?

Its probably due to the fact that desktops prefer hard wire (CAT5) over wireless due to the ammount of EMI (electro magnetic interference) produced by the higher voltage, current and overall power of the components inside and nearby (printers speaker etc). If your wifi card has a detachable antenna you may benefit from one (with or without GAIN) on a cable so you can position it on the desk away from most of the nasty EMI.

Is there a new network adapter for windows 10 that is Qualcomm Atheros? I have the version AR9485 and I think the version was

The reason I am saying this is because my Wifi does not work (only on my Asus computer.) I am sending this from my phone. When I troubleshoot, it says 'default gateway not available.' I know I need a newer (tried older ones, no luck) version (network adapter) but I can't access it and whenever I try with my phone, it's just a big jumble of words I really can't read well.

Have you extracted the contents of the folder yet? If not, do so by right-clicking on it and then click Extract All..., accept the default folder name.

Follow this Tutorial to install the driver: Device Manager - Install Driver - Vista Forums Note that the category will be Network adapters and that folder you browse for in Step 9 will be the extracted folder above.

I have windows vista home premium. Been using att uverse for about a year. last couple of months i've been experiencing connectivity problems on this computer. (all other devices connected to the wireless (another pc, wireless devices such as ipod itouch, cable tv) work fine. I would troubleshoot and it would give the message: Wireless network adapater atheros ar5007UG is experiencing driver or hardware related issues.

I checked and I do have the latest driver installed.

Sometimes computer connects and other times no and its become more frequent. in fact I have to restart the computer numerous times in order for it to work.

There are days I just stop trying after 5 restarts. I hope that doesn't damage the computer.

Hello,I have an Aspire E1-571G with Windows 8.1x64 (clean install, no upgrade and so on) and I've been having issues with my broadcom wireless drivers ever since I installed it. The troubleshooter showed up that there is a problem with the default gateway but here's what really happens: I can stay connected to a wireless network but after random periods of time I just lose internet access (note that it doesn't show up in the connections page, everything looks perfectly fine there) and I have to reconnect to the wifi to regain it. I have tried on multiple wifi network and it does the same thing. It works fine if I use an ethernet cable but that just makes it more frustrating.I have tried all the possible solutions I could find online like checking the power management settings, reinstalling the wifi card in safe mode, checking the priority of the wirelss connection, virtually anything. There is no hardware issue with it, it worked perfectly fine on Windows 7. I haven't been able to find wireless drivers for 8.1 and even though I have the latest drivers, it still doesn't work right. There are moments when I can keep my connection for more than 2-3 hours but there are times when it crashes every 5 minutes or so.Does anybody have any idea how to fix this instead of waiting for the drivers to be updated ? I've seen that I'm not the only one with this issue and it's a bit common for e1-571g users. For example lenovo users had the same problem and the only fix was to install the def... Read more

If you use atheros wifi, and use the drivers that came on your restore cd/driver disk combo, please go to the manufacturer's website and update your wireless network drivers to the latest version.

From what Ive experienced, the new drivers help out a lot (usually always do.)

This also applies moreover to anyone using an ASUS laptop.

Also, the video drivers on the recovery media usually are out of date, so it would be a good idea to update those as well. (from the manufacturer's site of course)

I'm currently using HP DV7-7015CA on windows 8.1
it came with Intel N-2230 wireless/bluetooth chip, but it was a pain in the ass and had lots of connection problems
so I replaced the with a Atheros AR5B97 wireless/bluetooth chip from my older laptop

the problem I have now is that the bluetooth isn't detected/working on my HP
can anyone spare some tips to solve this?

I've already tried all the possible drivers from ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows (Atheros?????)
and it's still not working
I've also tried atheros bluetooth manager driver from acer (the brand of my old laptop)
but it didn't support win8, so it wouldn't install
I've also tried atheros bluetooth driver from sony, but it mad absolutely no difference

I've concluded that I DO infact have the driver, I just can't seem to enable it
when I put the atheros chip back in acer, it also doesn't show bluetooth in device manager, but when i press the wireless hotkey (fn+F3), on the acer, and switch bluetooth to on thru the utility, bluetooth popped up in device manager
so i guess the question now is how do I enable the bluetooth on my HP?

Hi all
I am having wireless connection issues and hoping someone here can help me
After resent issues I had with my Gateway laptop (ID59C) I reformated and reinstalled windows. All has gone well all drivers and windows updates have been completed

When I tried to get my wireless internet connection going I was not able to connect to the Internet. I have done all of the following
Uninstalled the device and restarted lapatop and let windows do its thing
I downloaded and installed the drivers for the ethernet controller and was prompted to restart my computer, which I done, this didnt help at all

I ran the Hardware + Device troubleshooter and I got the following message
The driver for the network controller is not installed. Install the latest drivers for this device
It also found these problems
Network Controller doesnt have a driver
Hardware changes might not have been detected

I thought I had installed the drivers as I went through the whole install proccess prior to these errors occuring

I have no idea what to do or how to fix it
Im trying to install the drivers for atheros AR8131 PCI-E Gigabit ethernet controller

Is it possible to force it to accept the drivers or manually install them as windows doesnt seem to be able to do it
I can connect with ethernet and with my mobile broadband stick. Would my internal wireless card need to be replaced?

Should I reformat and reinstall the windows 7 again?

sorry for all the questions

Any help will be appreciated, thank... Read more

I have a Lenovo G70-80 running Windows 10 and Kubuntu 14.04. The Kubuntu 14.04 doesn't recognize wireless connections. No wireless drivers! I found a method that might help called ndiswrapper. For that though I need one of two things. Preferably the Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 wireless drivers in a zip. Option two would be if anyone knows all the file names I need since I'm dual-booting both OS, while in the Kubuntu boot I have access to the Windows system so I'd be able to copy the necessary files from windows to Kubuntu and run the ndiswrapper. Thanks for any info that could help with this.

I have an HP dv5-1002nr notebook PC from 2008 (piece of junk if you ask me, but that's another issue).

Way back when I first bought this computer, the wireless adapter driver would get corrupted every time the computer would overheat. At the time, I was shown how I could reinstall the Atheros wireless adapter driver from my Recovery Manager.

I have since solved all the overheating issues, but this morning, the Atheros driver disappeared (or was corrupted) again, and I have tried reinstalling it several times, both from the Recovery Manager and from the HP driver web site.

The files will load, and the installation wizard goes through, but then even after I reboot, the driver still doesn't show up in my network device manager settings, and the network wireless adapter still won't turn on.

Answer:Problems with Atheros wireless adapter drivers

Hello and welcome thefourwinds , starting to sound like maybe a hardware issue here, are you still able to connect with it wired ? I am thinking hard ware issue based on the fact that you say the driver will not load up . However, have you tried uninstalling that driver and then reloading fresh one ?

Hi, I managed to run the setup on my notebook without any error.I just unzipped the entire archive in a folder and I did run setup.exe from install_cd folder. I don't run the setup.exe directly from the archive. I first extract the archive somewhere.Alternatively you can extract the wireless only driver archive to a folder. Then go to the device manager (just write in start device manager). Here you should see the network card with a yellow question mark or something similar. Right click on it and select update drivers ----> Browse my computer for driver software---> Select the folder where you extracted the archive and then click next. If the drivers will match and you did it correctly it should install your wireless driver.

Have been looking all over the internet for these drivers, but without luck.
I think the latest Atheros is 9.93, and I have 8.0.0.

In another thread someone suggested PCPitStop - another one of those FREE driver sites, where you can get all the drivers you need; once you "register". I.e pay

Also tried the Atheros/Qualcomm site?? which sells a range of "Killer" products including networking cards, but no 9285. I emailed them, and "bigfoot company" replied saying they don't have.
Then there is, who have a LIST of all drivers (versions??) but cannot see anywhere to d/l.

Then there is Sony itself (my machine) which has the drivers, but thet is where I got my current (outdated) one - as of 5/5/11.

Also having a struggle with the ATA/ATAPI one, and a Ricoh SDXC/MMC one.
SO, where can I get these drivers??

Good morning I have a Lap Top with Qualcomm Atheros AR8171/8175 PCI. I must to use it to make system copies with "ghost" software fromMS 2 by ethrnet wire. I need that because I'm doing copies of very old computers.

The problem is that I can not find the ndis drivers for MS 2 for this board.

You know if it exists? can you help me??

Answer:Drivers Ndis MS 2 for Atheros AR8171/8175 PCI-E

You would download the driver from the laptop manufacturer. (eg) Dell, HP etc. Go to their Support/Download Drivers site, type in your make, and model # or Service tag # and download the driver from there.
Be aware that you cannot install a Ghost or Clone image from one computer to a different computer. Even if they are the same manufacturer unless they are the same Model # because they will have different drivers for their specific hardware.

Dell d-505 latitude laptop when i install wireless drivers for broadcom adapter i have to log in everytime i start computer.Davidwmessage edited by Davidw

Answer:Dell latitude d-505 when i install broadcom wireless drivers

If it was the windows login - which is how you get into "your" user account. - then presumably you know what that is?If the wifi login (to access the router) you simply enter the SSID and the access key (aka incorrect;y referred to as the password) for the router. Providing you didn't change it from the default it was delivered with, it will be on a sticker on the base of the router...Incidentally it's generally wiser to change the access key from the default/delivered one to something else; and make suitable note elsewhere what you changing it to. If it's your home/router no harm to stick a note on the base of the router; and also email it to yourself...

Hi I'm having problems finding the proper windows 7 drivers for WLAN/NIC.
System Specifications:
Sony Vaio Fit 15.5" Laptop (SVF15A18CXB)
Windows 7 Ultimate Edition x64

The Network Controller is a Broadcom BCM43142
Network Controller Hardware IDS:

Anyways the Situation:
Last week I decided to downgrade from Debian Wheezy to Windows 7 (come at me windows fanboys )
Anyways I set up a live USB with the necessary .ISO and got the Setup working-installed Windows
7 Ultimate edition. I started a clean boot; therefore, obviously no drivers. So i hooked up my external HDD
to my other computer and downloaded all the Sony drivers from their webpage (Sony eSupport - SVF15A18CXB - Support) and then off the external HDD installed them onto my PC. Started trouble shooting from then on when I could only get internet from the Ethernet cable. What happened is when installing the BCM wireless network adapter I would get the error "OS not supported". Searched the webs again to find that Lenovo had drivers for a similar make of the NIC. They also didn't work. I contacted Sony Support, they had no response.

Here are the system specs:

Answer:No WLAN/NIC Broadcom 43142 Windows 7 Drivers for SVF15A18CXB

It's entirely possible there's no Win7 drivers for that Notebook/Laptop, not mentioned in that specifications page about it ever being available for Win7, shows only Win8. It may be too new for drivers to have been compiled for Win7.

I agree that one of them is the driver. However, changing it with a new one or downgrading it does not solve the problem. So my only conclusion is that it could be due to another one of several fators. Try running InsSider or other equivalent program and see if the channel that you are using is crowded or or not. If it is then use a less crowded one and see if helps alleviate the situation.

I accidentally deleted from regedit my realtek drivers for my "atheros ar9285 802.11 b/g/n wifi adapter" for my laptop. I am on vacation, and cannot access my recovery disks (which I left at home) for another month or so. Short of buying a new set of recovery disks on the Internet, can anyone send me a disk with these drivers on it so I can access the wifi that is available to me? Unless it is possible to download the drivers to a jumpdrive so I can than put them on my laptop. Thanks. My laptop is a compaq presario cq56-115dx.

Answer:atheros ar9285 802.11 b/g/n wifi adapter drivers disk

Realtek and Atheros are two completely separate manufacturer's.

Recovery Discs wipe out your system and take you back to the original factory state, pretty sure that's not what you want to use anyway.

The place to get drivers for your HP/Compaq laptop for free is the HP website:
Download the drivers either by plugging the laptop in with an Ethernet cable or use another computer and transfer the driver download with a USB drive.

So I read all of the solutions for the AR5BWB222 Drivers for the Qualcomm Atheros (from using the non-supported drivers) from the site, to not checking the power-saving modes for the Network Driver, as well as in the Performance/Screen Saver section.   Tried installing the official latest drivers from the Acer website.   Nothing works. The question I have is why doesn't Qualcomm Atheros have a list of drivers on their website?   Yes, Acer should demand Qualcomm Atheros to update the drivers.   They must have an agreement.   Other wifi devices work fine.   But not AR5BWB222.     We all know it comes down to the driver.   Official driver.   Acer just needs to provide pressure to have the latest drivers from Qualcomm Atheros. It's a software solution, and there needs to be support.   If these drivers are buggy, then Acer needs to update them *or* tell Qualcomm Atheros to update them.    It's sad that the Acer community has to pick up the slack, rather than Acer tech support.   If there is a ticketing system, I will create it. I'm quite tired from all the troubleshooting I did.   I need a beer.   Acer owes me a beer.

Ok, I'm going to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7. I have everything almost ready except for this. I've run the Windows 7 update assistant to check for compatibility and all that.

Everything's ok, but I'm a bit confused about the wireless. In the list, it says "the vendor provides software to use this device in Windows 7", I've visited the site and even done some searches on Google, but found nothing. (And I don't think it could make sense to download them after the upgrade or something like that 'cause I wouldn't be able to connect to the internet)

Anyone could gimme a hand here?

Did you get this with a PC bundle as in came with a DELL, HP PC or was it bought retail boxed? just wonder as Atheros done have that many drivers listed on their site, so may come from another source.

Also what version of Win7 you going to install, is it 64bit or 32bit?

So I have a Qosmio F50, and I upgraded to 4GB of RAM, so I decided to format and install 64bit Windows Vista. Everything seems to be well, except for the wireless LAN. I was able to find 64-bit drivers for every single component except for the wireless LAN. It's an atheros WLAN chip, and I couldn't find 64 bit drivers for it on the Toshiba page. There are 32bit drivers for it however, but they don't seem to work

Is there some other place I can find those drivers? I searched as much as I can but couldn't find something that works. And I don't know what the exact chip model is either.

Is it better to use the drivers provided by toshiba (nvidia, synaptics,...) or should i install it from the official hardware manufacterer as they have more recent drivers than the one on toshiba site.

Answer:Question about drivers (hardware manufacterer vs toshiba drivers)

Generally speaking the drivers from Toshiba page should be used since such drivers are tested by Toshiba.
For example the display driver from Toshiba supports some kind of overheating protection and clock down the GPU if the temperature would be too high? in such case the performance would be decreased for a short time but this would lower the temperature? as far as I know the drivers from chip manufacturers don?t support such feature?
So the usage of such drivers is your own risk?

At the other hand you can install Synaptics drivers from manufacturer page. There is no risk.

Realistically what are the chances of anyone coming up with Win 7 64 drivers for older hardware such as scanners, game devices, etc.? I have an old Microtek scanner that I use maybe once a month that is perfectly functional. Microtek says good luck and please buy one of our newer models. Same with my Thrustmaster driving wheel. Haven't tried the Seiko serial port label printer yet.

Fortunately I do have a notebook running XP that I can use for the printing and scanning although I did upgrade for better gaming so I am out of luck with the driving wheel.

Question is are there any enterprising folks out there building drivers or am I tossing the old stuff and buying new?

Answer:Old Hardware Drivers

May be make list & post.

Microtek 1200 scanner, the Win XP drivers work better on Vista & Win 7.

Hello, i'm new here and i hope someone can help me out with this issue.
At first i was getting random chkdsks at any time, i formatted the hard drive for the first time yesterday, but this error comes back, first to make an appearance was the 0x000003B BSOD, wich is gone, but now the one which seems to repeat randomly is Memory management - 0x0000001A.

Few hours ago i manually ran chkdsk but it keeps telling me this:
Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50
And this error points to NTFS File system structure in the eventvwr.
At the moment everything is working well, except i got these BSODs 2 or 3 times so far a couple of hours ago, according to the eventvwr. Anyway, something is wrong with my computer, thats for sure.

I also installed the debbuging tools, but honestly i don't know what to think about the logs. Hope you guys can give an idea of what is causing this errors.
The hardware is all new, it's been a couple of days since i got my new PC.

Thanks a lot.

PS. The attachments could be in spanish, sorry about that, i'm from Argentina.

Good morning. I got a virus on my computer and my desktop and task bar went black. I ended up getting that back by moving the explorer.exe file but now my computer does not register or show my CD/DVD Writer. I went and deleted the Upper and Lower filers last night and it brought back my floppy disk drive but I do not have a floppy disk drive. Please help me. I have been working on this for hours and a system restore also does not work since I did have the virus. Thanks so much.

I know that you can "uninstall" a driver in the "Device Manager". However, I understand that even though when you do that, the driver and any reference to it is not totally removed from your computer. In other words, Windows does not really delete the driver. I seem to recall that there is a way to edit the registry so that all references are gone. My question is "How do I do that"? Here is the problem. I installed what I thought would be an updated driver for a video capture card. It turned out that the driver did not do the job. I can "uninstall" it but when I go to install the proper one, it will install fine but when I go to Windows Movie Maker, the new capture card is not recognized, only the old one. (I hope you understand that!!) Is there a Microsoft note that tells how to edit the registry to get rid of an old driver. Has anyone else on the forum had to do this? I am looking for particulars. What do I have to edit from the registry? From where in the registry do I edit? I am trying to be very cautious because I do not want ot mess the registry up and then have bigger problems!! Just asking!!! Sorry that this post has been so long!! Thanks, Walt <[email protected]>

Answer:Uninstalling Hardware Drivers in XP!!!

did you try clicking the properties tab of your vid card in device manager, click drivers tab, then click update the driver and point to the driver cd...or did you try that. Also in the driver pane click driver details ,at the bottom you should be able to scroll down to see all the drivers that the vid card uses. You could note the location and do not delete, just add like the word " old " ( may have to go into safe mode ) then reboot and install the correct not delete the drivers.

Hi All,

I just discovered that I am still on this forum, haven't used it for ages (sorry about that!). Anyway, I was wondering whether anyone knew of updated drivers for older hardware that will enable the hardware to operate in Win 10. I have a Canon LIDE 20 A4 flatbed scanner, which was a nice little piece of gear. It refuses to operate in Win 10 because it can't find an appropriate driver. It would be nice to have it operational again!

I replaced a dead hard drive in my Dell Inspiron N5110. I replaced an old disk hard drive for a SSD a Samsung ssd 840 Series.
When I booted up with the original Dell Windows 7 reinstall CD I got to the screen where it asks me where I want to install Windows. I have three options offered, Disk 0 Partion 1: EFI (200MB 181MB Free space system type) or Dist 0 Partition 2 (232.1GB, 0 free space, Primary Type) or Disk 0 Partition 3 (619 MB total size, 0 Free Space, primary Type)
So, where to install? And why does it say that the new hard drive has 0 free space?
I have the option to Refresh, Delete, Format, Load Driver or Extend. There is an option for New, but nothing happens when I try to click on that.
So, there is a message that says that windows cannot be installed on any of these partitions.
I tried putting in the drivers disk and tried to find HD drivers, but it did not like the drivers it found.
What to do? I was told that windoes does not care about the new drivers and would install with the install CD no problem.
So, can you help?

Answer:I am not sure if this belongs in New Hardware or Drivers

Of those 3 partitions:

Partition 2
Partition 3

you should install to Partition 2.

I'm not sure why it says 0 free space.

Do you have any other drive connected?

What's the history of this Samsung SSD? Brand new out of the box? Previously used for something and if so, what? Do you care at all about anything on it?

It seems that there are no XP drivers available for the Satellite L40-139.
Could anyone please tell me where I can download drivers for the following devices:

-Satellite L40-139
-Audio device
-Graphics controller
-ACPI controller!
-Some chipset drivers (?) (PCI Subsystem or something)

I should really appreciate any help!

Kind regards!

Answer:Need WXP hardware drivers for Satellite L40-139

unfortunately there are no drivers available from toshiba at the moment, but you can try using generic drivers from the manufacturers of the hardware
(e.g. if the soundhardware is a realtek soundcard then download drivers from and so on..) and run the machine with these drivers.

Here are some link which could perhaps help you:

Video drivers

Chipset drivers

Sound drivers

I hope you can find the drivers you need..

Answer:How Do You Know Which Drivers Match Your Hardware?

hi Boris_yo,
Thanks for Posting!
I personally use
You will be provided by two search box Vendor and Device.
Spoiler (Highlight to read)
I always start with a vendor search
So on your Posted Hardware ID the Vendor ID is the four digit/character after the word VEN (PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&SUBSYS_051014E4&REV_01)
Then youll get a Broadcom Result
In cases you got multiple result for Vendor ID search like your GMA(Graphics)
That's the time I do a device Search (PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0046&SUBSYS_392017AA&REV_02)
You will then be provided with devices with that device ID then just look for the Vendor Id that matches

Hope this helps
