Shutdown problems and event viewer warnings

Question: Shutdown problems and event viewer warnings

Problem 1
I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software problem, but I have a newly built computer and experienced some strange shutdown problems. When I shut down the computer it hangs for a couple of seconds before shutting down. It sounds like the secondary HDD start up, shuts down, starts up and shuts down again before the computer shuts down itself. This always gives me a critical warning in event viewer saying that the PC wasn't shut down properly.

Sometimes it won't shut down at all, and I have to use the power button on the case. The LED code on the motherboard always shows "D4" when computer won't shut down, which means "PCI allocation error - out of resources". HDD also makes power down/up noises. This problem I have had all since I built the computer, but after I did a clean install of Windows with diskpart, it happened that the PC would randomly shut down or enter hibernation mode with LED code "D3", which means "some of the architectural protocols are not available".

However, if I turn off "fast startup" I experience none of these problems. It happens that the PC won't shut down, just much, much more rarely. When that happens LED code shows "D5" which means "no space for legacy option ROM initialization."
What I find strange is that these codes describe problems that doesn't seem to have anything in common, but the LED codes are only from D3 to D5, which are right after each other on the list.

I also get a strange vibrating/humming noise from what I think must be the HDD. The level sound varies very much, sometimes it's very loud and other times it's barely noticable. If I just lay a finger on the chassis the sound goes away, and if I take out the HDD it goes away as well.

Could I have a faulty HDD?

"Problem" 2
In event viewer I'm getting some warnings that seems to pop up right after each other occasionally:

Preferred Solution: Shutdown problems and event viewer warnings

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

event viewer has errors and warnings, is this why our acer laptop is cutting out and acting funny? I rec'v a call from microsoft stating they have been receiving error reports and for a fee they will clear up our event viewer....also we get script error sometimes while watching tv programs online, i usually check ok and it lets us con't the program....also our system has started to shut down on its own, at first we thought it was the battery, it is almost dead, so we removed the battery and have it running on the power line....but it is still happening....microsoft states it is the event viewer that needs to be clean up.....how can we do this ourselves and is it dangerous to do if your not computer savvy??? Please help, don't really want our harddrive to get corrupt nor can we afford to be paying out fees.... we have an acer laptop and vista program...oh did i say we have alot of errors and warnings in the application and system area and 1 warning in our set up.....thanks for all responses and assistance

Answer:problems with warnings and errors on event viewer

The phone calls from "Microsoft" are scams. Hang up on them and on no account follow their advice. It will cost you money and/or compromise your security.Warnings, and even errors, in the event viewer are quite common and don't necessarily mean that anything is really wrong with your computer. You can easily clear the event logs (just right-click on a log and you'll get an option to clear it), but this is not the cause of any problems you are suffering. It may be worth using an online virus scanner. I can't recommend a particular one because I have no need for them, and so no experience on which to recommend a particular one. I'm sure someone else can come up with a few suggestions. Do you run any anti-virus/anti-malware software? You certainly should - Microsoft Security Essentials is as good as anything. If you really are having problems with your computer your best bet may be to take it to a local computer store. Obviously they will charge you to look at it, but they should know what they are doing. And, most important, just hang up on unsolicited phone calls. 90% of them are scams.

So while I'm browsing the internet, every so often I get a random Server Not Found message. It happens less than a second after I click the link so it's like an instant timeout. And once in a while, warnings show up in my event viewer like this:

And today my internet went out all together and I got an error saying "The DNS
server isn't responding."

This has been happening for months and I didn't think much of it but now it's starting to annoy me.

I'm using a 2wire 2701HG-B gateway/modem/router thing. It's connected to my computer with a yellow ethernet cord and it's also used to connect to a laptop in another room wirelessly. It happens both on the laptop and my desktop.

Answer:Problems with random 'Server Not Found' errors & event viewer warnings

Have you attempted to reset the router or have you tried using a different DNS server. You can change the DNS server by going into your routers control panel.

My computer was running great until a few months ago when it crashed while I was playing HALO online. The computer turned off but the green light on front of case was still on. When i tried to reset it, nothing would come up on the monitor and the monitors light remained orange (standby). I knew the computer wasnt booting up because it would have spoke to me as the a7n8x-e does. The fans and LED on the motherboard would turn on though and i could hear the HDD spin up.
Anyway I tried another socket A processor but it didnt fix it. Then eventually I tried another PSU and that fixed it. My computer was working properly again.

When I tried to play HALO again on my computer I noticed that the originally smooth performance was now terrible. The game seemed to (and continues to ) freeze for a second every few seconds. When this occurs I can hear a click from the HDD and the screen and game freezes for a second. I tried to continue to play under these conditions the computer grinded to a halt and crashed.

Using Event Viewer/Applications I was getting 5 error events each day. This had to do with a "search" for a file on an external HD. I have just formated the HD and now I get "Warnings" about the the same files. The HD is now blank.

How do I get rid of the warnings?

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Event Viewer warnings

I've been clearing out my Event Viewer using a batch file I found a good 18 months ago. Gives you a clean slate to look at. I can't remember where I found the batch file but this one is (nearly) the same. They don't delete the actual .event files, just clear your event viewer.

I feel that this is not what you are really looking for though. You are looking for how to fix it so you no longer get the error messages

Event logs are there to assist if problems are encountered, otherwise they can, and should, be ignored. The events you post are probably just informational, obviously they did not bring your system to a screeching halt so no major problem occurred. Here is the MS description of event 1073

If you are not using those services go to search by the start button and type services. In services, turn them off a few at a time. If the computer acts in a way that you do not like you will know the culprit.

When I look in my Events Viewer I see countless warnings for which the source is Dhcp. Others(but many fewer) have Win 32 k as the source. Others just say "print" as the source and 6161 as the category.

Is it possible to remove/delete these items that are, I gather, troublemakers?

I'd hoped to resolve these myself but right off the bat I don't understand what to do or where to go.

This VSS one tells me to "check security on the volume" but I don't even know where to go to do that.

My Event Viewer is loaded with errors & warnings. Many people have said to ignore it for the most part but I am having a couple issues that I think could be resolved by going thru' some but I just get lost. I just don't know enough computer-eez (if there is such a word) to feel confident that I won't mess things up worse.

Hi

I am getting a lot of warnings and errors in Windows 7 (x64) Event Viewer

The errors are generally:

Failed extract of third-party root list from auto update cab at: <http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootstl.cab> with error: The data is invalid.
The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: EIO_XP

The warnings are usually related to DNS Client Events and usually have the format:

"Name resolution for the name sdmc.devicevm.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded."

Sometimes a different address or IP address appears instead of smdc.devicevm.com (e.g. 202.11.168.192.in-addr.arpa and others)

The EIO_XP driver appears to be associated with ASUS Smart Doctor which I do not have installed, I haven't been able to find anything more about it. Can anyone help me with these problems?

Thanks

When will Microsoft analyze all those errors & warnings that appear so often in the Event Viewer, and fix them so they won't happen again? I understand that it's not really necessary to have all that to be fixed in there, because the computer still functions normally. But why not minimize all that unnecessary information, and leave the Event Viewer to log down important crashes that happen?

They should look at each of those errors/warnings and figure out what is causing those errors/warnings, and eventually fix them, so they don't have to get logged in there unnecessarily.

While messing around trying to solve my problem in the post immediately below, I went into my Event Viewer and discovered 256 errors and warnings. I've had this computer 5 days. Is that an usually high number for 5 days of usage? Some of the errors are dated 3 months before I got the computer. Does this mean there were errors in the initial installations?

Answer:Event Viewer: How many errors and warnings are too many?

It depends a great deal on what the "errors" are. Some errors are pretty much meaningless. Other errors about services not starting and so on may be temporary with a later entry showing that the service did, in fact, start. If you are not having obvious problems with your machine, and you do not know what the entries in the log mean, save yourself the anxiety and don't read them, or find someone to read them that knows what they mean.

Received a suspicious phone call from a man claiming to be from Microsoft. He said he was from Microsoft and their servers have been receiving alerts that I am at risk. I told him I would not let him remote into my computer as I do not know for sure he was from Microsoft.

He had me go to Run and event viewer. In it he asked if I saw error and warnings. I said yes, but I was not able to delete any of the the errors. I asked him for a phone number to call but he wouldn't provide one for himself. He gave me a Senior Engineer and a phone number to call. I said I would try to do it with a tech forum group.

Answer:Event Viewer showing Errors & Warnings

It is impossible to fix error events without looking at the error message details.

Where did you find that MS phone number? Seems like you reached another scam outfit as MS will not say that your machine is infected without the ability to look at your machine.

Note: all scammers asks you to look at Event Viewer and point to the number of errors and warnings as an excuse to remote into your machine.

on the network.Click to expand...

How many computers, networked printers, etc. are on the network? Did the owner try ipconfig /all to see what the addresses looked like? Is MAC filtering set up? Is the amount of addresses limited?
Also an ipconfig /release followed by ipconfig /renew wouldn't hurt.
I have 7 computers in the house so I occasionally might lose access from 1 or 2 computers. I always suspect the computer is trying to use an old IP that the router has assigned to a different computer on my network (not in use by an outsider).

Most importantly, has the owner changed the default SSID and password? Maybe a neighbor is using his signal and taking the IP address.

As far as I know, I'm not having any problems with keyboard but there must be a problem somewhere to cause all these events.

I've cleared the Viewer a couple times for other reasons so don't know how far back this keyboard issue goes but am sure it's been at least 5 months, if not the whole time I've had the machine.

There's no issue showing in Device Mgr.

It's a PS2 keyboard that came with my PC which I purchased 8 months ago. (yeah, I know, just bought 7 when 8 is now out )

Answer:Keyboard warnings filling up Event Viewer

Hum don't really know why but have you tried checking the driver for it?

Cont Pan > Device Manager > Admin tools > Computer Management > Device manager > Open keyboards (left click) > the right click on the opened keyboard > update drivers click on search auto > let it run it should tell you whether or not the driver is the correct one for it.

If that doesn't work do a Google for the makers site and get the driver there - not saying this is the cause of the problem and it is an older form of connector - which I often use for fixes on older machines that don't recognise USB devices.

Answer:Lots of errors and warnings in event viewer

Hi peugeotiain and welcome to TSF !

Tell us more about those errors in the event viewer. Only mention those that happened since the last time you restarted the computer. Double-click the error and click on the third button on the right to copy the complete information in the memory then right-click => paste that information here. Only report similar errors (= same source and same event number) once. Also report the errors in the security section.

Sidebyside seems to be some sort of spyware, maybe remnants of an old infection since I don't see anything related to sidebyside in your log. I'm not supposed to give malware removal help but we can at least check if there's a threat : go to start => run and type regedit. Search the registry for the following keys and tell us if they exist :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\sbss
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\sbss

Then search for the following value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run :
"sbss Launcher" = "%ProgramFiles%\sbss\sbss.exe"

Then go to start => search => all files and folders => more advanced options => tick system folders, hidden files and folders and subfolders. Search for the following files and tell us if they exist :
sbss.exe
uninstallsbss.exe

Wouldn't that be hard to do if I only have dial-up? How can i stop them from coming ?

If the card reader works OK, I would just ignore the Event Viewer warning messages.

Windows has several hundred Event Viewer logs and you'll make yourself crazy trying to fix every perceived error and warning message in them.

Hey guys I'm new to Windows 10 and Event viewer and I am unable to understand what it is saying, this used to happen to my Windows 8.1 and I thought that after upgrading to 10 this might stop but here it is again! Please take a look at the pictures attached for better closure. I would appreciate all input and thanks for your time!

Answer:Tons of event viewer errors, warnings and criticals!

Have you actually got troubles with the pc? If not don't you worry about so called critical errors listed in the event viewer. What MS understands as critical error should not be confused with what common sense would understand under that term, the MS definition of a critical error is much broader. Generally if there is no actual problem with the pc it's not worth bothering since I have not seen a single Windows pc that does not show a critical error here and there in the event viewer. The event viewer is a nice tool to troubleshoot but only for that. Checking it without actually having troubles with that specific pc is like running to a doctor and make him conduct countless test only because you might someday get some sort of cancer. If the pc is doing fine don't spoil that positive experience by looking for troubles where there are none.

My computer has recently (in the past 1-2 weeks) started crashing at least 1-2 times a day. The crash results in a blue screen where at the bottom it does a physical memory dump of some sort -- the screen is only up for a few seconds. This mostly occurs when playing some sort of video game (WoW, Wildstar, or Smite). I checked the event viewer and I'm receiving constant (multiple times a second) warnings of a WHEA-Logger source for my PCI Express Root Port Vendor ID:Device ID: 0x8086:0x3405. The device ID per the device manager seems to link with (Intel® 5520/5500/X58 I/O Hub to ESI Port - 3405.

I'm not sure if this is the cause of my crashes, however. I checked around online and some people seem to have solved it by updating their Intel chipset drivers however when I run the Intel utility it says my driver is current and valid.

My windows troubleshooting tool has indicated that I've received recent video hardware failures.

I've attached my DXDiag dump. I'm running Windows 7 with an i7 920, 8Gig RAM, AMD Radeon R9 290 graphics card.

Please let me know what additional information you need from me -- Thanks in advance for the help!

So I've been in the process of putting together a HTPC. It's a little Habey 800B case with a ASRock E350-M1 motherboard running W7 64 bit. I havent had any issues with it while installing Windows or any of the misc programs (Office, MSE, XBMC, etc). But I recently turned it on in the morning and was going to let it run all day so that I could remote to it from work and work on it when I had a few free minutes. But when I got to work and finally got some time, it showed as being offline??? I figured that it had gone to sleep. So the next day I connected a monitor/keyboard/mouse to it, booted it and it showed that Windows had shut down unexpectedly. I selected the "Load Windows normally" option and then set the power options to "never" sleep. I attempted the same thing the next day, and again it was off when I tried to connect to it???

It took me a few days to get back to looking at it. After booting and messing around with it for a bit it seemed a bit sluggish and froze once, requiring a manual reboot. I checked the Event Logs and took as many screen shots as I could. I posted the screen shots below hoping that someone can give me some info from the Event log info.

Someone here at work suggested I search for the .dmp files to see if they would give any further info. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

WinXP Media Center Edition SP3 - there are numerous "warnings" in the Event Viewer in the 'System' section. Each time the warning shows up (about every 2-4 days), there will be at least 5-6 in a row, sometimes as many as 15 all in group. Here's the message (a screen shot is attached below also):

The owner of the PC is convinced the new hard drive I installed about a year ago is failing because he'd get occasional BSOD crashes, but I ran 2 different diagnostics on the drive, and both passed 100% (one was the Seagate 'Seatools' bootable diagnostic; it's a Seagate 320gb SATA drive). The system passed an extended RAM diagnostic (I knew the RAM was OK, but I ran the test just to be thorough). I'm researching the message right now, but haven't found much.... any thoughts?

Thanks!

(I've been using the PC for about 6 hours now w/o any problems, but then again, the warnings don't necessarily show up every day; sometimes there's 4-5 days with no warnings)

Answer:Numerous "warnings" in Event Viewer (WinXP)

Upon looking at the Event Viewer messages a bit closer, I found that there's a few of these identical warnings that refer to "\Device\Harddisk1\D" but the vast majority refer to HD0\D. There is only one hard drive in the PC.....
:confused

EDIT - a bit more digging, and I discovered that the "iPod Service has entered the running state" occurs about 40sec before a string of the warnings starts; the iPod service is not listed right before the warnings every time, but it is on all but 2 out of a total of 12 or 13 'runs' of the paging warnings.... a connection between the iPod and the paging problems?

I just rebuilt with a new motherboard, new Intel 6600K, and new RAM. It's assembled on a table top rather than in the case. All other parts are from an earlier build but believed to be in good shape.

I went to sleep about 14 hours ago with my PC still running. I was doing a backup job that would take a few hours, so I just slept.

6 hours later I woke up and notice that the CPU fan is not spinning. Panic. I didn't know if the motherboard had failed, the fan had failed, or even if the PC was running. Nothing displayed on the monitor.

I shut down and rebooted successfully, getting the "Windows did not shut down properly error".

Looking at logs, I see that the backup job completed at 1236 pm and that the Windows shut down at 1237, one minute later. Coincidence? Maybe.

Windows Reliability History gives no info beyond mentioning the unexpected shutdown.

Event Viewer may have more info, but I'm not familiar enough with it to find anything useful.

Do you have any specific help on Event Viewer?

Also interested in any ideas you may have on the cause.

I'm getting a trio of critical error messages in event viewer after each shutdown:

- "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

- "Windows failed fast startup with error status 0xC00000D4."

- "The previous system shutdown was unexpected."

The PC starts up fine and seems to shut down very fast - within 10-12 seconds, and there seems to be no issues with startup or shutdown. But when I stumbled onto these critical messages in event viewer I got concerned. What could be triggering this? How do I troubleshoot this? They are logged in event viewer after each shutdown/reboot.

Answer:Critical error messages in event viewer after each shutdown

Try turning Fast Start Up off in the Power Options Menu. Finding the option is a bit obscure. There are some known issues with this. It is on by default in Windows 10 and will trigger shut down errors.

So, I'm having a really weird issue.

I have a pc with a win10 Pro.
It was upgraded from Windows 8. Still in windows 8 the shutdown and the restart took like 10 minutes each time.
Upgraded to 10 expecting this not to happen.. It still does..

After alot of search, I started disabling Windows services a few blocks at a time, and after that 1 at a time.

My conclusion is that when the event viewer service is online, the computer takes forever to shutdown or reboot..
If I disable the service, the computers shutdown and restart are done in a matter of seconds..
I've tested this.

Sooo.. I'm lost here.. Tried sfc /scannow to see if that would fix something, but nothing was detected..

I think maybe that may have something to do with it. I deleted the 6 registry keys associated with this key and everything worked but I was locked out of Windows XP Mode (Windows Virtual PC). I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to fix this error?

I've tried reading up on this and it is all over my head and don't really understand it and can't fix it because i don't understand it. I've taken a snapshot of the message, maybe that'll help. If someone can explain it so I can understand what I need to do I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advanced

Hi, I have a couple of questions that maybe one of you super tech gurus might know the answer to I am using Vista x64 Ultimate, and have pretty new system, 4 GB ram, q9450, GTX 260, etc.

Anyway, for the most part everything works great, but once in a great while I will get a system freeze and have to restart the comp. No big, I have used computers long enough to know that stuff just happens sometimes. It happens so very rarely that I am not worried about it really (like once every several months, if that). The thing I am worried about is the fact that I can never find any reason for these things in the new Vista Event Viewer.

It doesn’t seem to ever list any errors that correspond with the times of these occurrences. It just happened to me while I was playing a Wow and listening to Windows Media Player. It froze up and kept playing a loop of about 2 seconds of the music. I looked at the clock and could see that it had frozen at 1:19 AM, so I know exactly when this problem happened.

So I reboot and everything is fine, and open up Event Viewer. There isn’t a single entry in any of the logs in the Custom View, Windows Logs or Applications and Services’ folders that get anywhere close to 1:19 AM. The closest times I found was in the Custom Views>>> Administrative Events log:

I want to know if my sis 620/5595 motherboard drivers can be obtained and/or upgraded with my windows 2000 advanced server machine? Will they also work for Windows 2003 Server? Where can I get them?
I think that they have become corrupt.

My USB no longer works. I tried to download Windows 2000 SP4 (Sp3 worked ok), even with iis service disabled, but all I get are these error messages: "Unable to connect to metabase. Setup failed to remove ism.dll script mappings. Service pack setup will abort".

Also I get: "Put Windows 2000 setup boot disk into floppy drive, restart, then select emergency repair option". (I dont have the cd for w2k now).

Amother message I get says that several services have failed and to go to event viewer, which only says that smtp service failed , service control manager, iisinfo ctrs and a couple of others.

I did run my virus scan and it caught a couple of viruses, namely bugbear and agobot, but the error messages continue.

So my problems are:
1) USB drivers
2) Motherboard drivers
3) SP4 installation
4) Event Viewer smtp and iis service failures

Can anyone help me please???

Got a reoccurring problem with my pc shutting down unexpectedly. Thought it might be a corrupt install so i reinstalled windows 10 and the errors came back anyway.
Then after a couple re-installs later and bunch of research i still came up with nothing. So i installed my windows 10 on a separate drive hoping that it would finally end it and it didnt. i took some photos of the error codes... if anyone has had this problem i would love some input!

I'm having problems with AVG 8.5, and am working with their tech support.they're asking me to go into VISTA's event viewer & create a file to send them:1. Please do the following to create Event History Log on WindowsVista:- Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer.- Expand the "Windows logs".- Mark "Application" -> Action -> Save Event as "application.evtx".- Mark "System" -> Action -> Save Event as "system.evtx".- Attach both files to the AVG Diagnostic Tool from step 3.When I get to the 'save event' step, event viewer crashes & won't save to a file. Any ideas?thanksBT

The error report below I believe is saying that permission is denied accessing a file under ProgramData. This I think is linked to Permissions which appear to be a hot topic with Windows 10. I do have loads of other errors in the ACCEEvent Log relating to the graphics but I thought I would start with this one.
The question I have is it possible that one of you could provide what the permissions should be for the ProgramData folder to check against what I have?
(I also have reports the fuel.xml is missing - which it is)

Here's a Snip of programdata permissions
All listed access principles are listed.

the snip only shows permissions for the selection Users (showing principles for all would take 4 snips.)
But the permissions for all are:
Owner - no checks
System - full control - all checks
Administrators - - full control - all checks
Users - read & execute, List folder contents, read - 3 checks

Above is from a smooth runnin machine.

If ya want to insure access,
*** Try this at you own Risk!!!
*** First document what ya start with! Save it! ***
Chg Permissions: Edit, Add, Advanced, Find Now, double click "Everyone" , OK, Apply, out...
Now Everyone is in the top Group User list.
Select(click) Everyone - puts everyones access in bottom Permissions box
check all check boxes except full control (maybe a driver might even need Full Ctl, cause driver install may wanta delete whats there first, the re insert)
Now ya have allowed access to EVERYONE !!!
Ya shouldn't get Access denied anymore (but who knows with Win 10)

*** Again this is Not a Recommended approach, but can lead to identifying the problem... ***
*** If this doesn't lead to THE problem Fix - PUT Access back the way it was ****
*** Remember the Computer Doctor's Creed, DO No Harm! ***
*** And always have a "Real" recovery method in place! )***
*** Good luck, and Be Careful... ***

Hi Guys.
The last week or so my Win 7 Pro 64bit has been very slow to boot into windows, once there it is business as usual but I would like to get an idea of what the problem may be.

I am attaching a couple of screenshots from Event Viewer, showing my startup this morning.

As you will see the first entry was 08.31.13 e1 cexpress then at 08.31.18 kernel-PnP then a 3 minute delay until 08.34.12 WMI is loaded.

This is repeated on earlier startups. There are also many other 'Errors' shown so I am hoping someone can advise what may be wrong.

Many thanks

Alan.

Hello,

I am getting these error messages in my event viewer every morning. The server that we are running on this computer is shutting down every morning and I have to shut it down and boot the tower back up. The hard drive that is running on this computer is a network drive (S Drive. My first impression is that it is the backup that is causing the issue.

If anyone can help with these error messages, it will be appreciated.

Thanks Brad.

The paging one is for your CD-ROM. It can't be paged, anyway, and that error is found on a lot of machines.

None of those errors rise to the level that if I had them myself, I would waste time trying to fix them.

Hi all,

i tried loading the eventvwr.msc file from system32 folder directly as well as from the administrator tools, but i get:

"event log service is unavailable. verify that the service is running."

so i try to start the event log service, from the services.msc program;
whenever i try to start windows event log from services i get the message:

"Windows could not start the windows event log service on local computer.
Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified."

how can i specify the path?
or
how can i resolve the problem?

any help would be appreciated please---thanks

Answer:HELP need to solve this problem asap - Unable to start event viewer/event log service

Fire up regedit and find this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog

With "Eventlog" highlighted on the left pane, you should be able to see a value called "ImagePath" on the right. ImagePath should be equal to this:

%SystemRoot%\System32\svchost.exe -k LocalServiceNetworkRestricted

If you can't see "ImagePath" in that location, or if it's not set to the text above, that's almost certainly your problem. If you're in the habit of using "registry cleaners", that might be the cause.

I was running 3DMark06 and got a BSOD code 124. After that every time I boot Event Viewer logs Error Codes ID 3012 and 3011. Attached are screenshots of both.

I googled this and found two different threads where someone suggested to rebuild the performance counters. Both responses were basically the same, below is one. Neither of the OP's came back and said if this worked for them.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Re: LoadPerf 3011, 3012
Hi-
I had the same problem with LoadPerf and here is what I found out:
All performance counter names and explain text are maintained in string tables managed by the performance counter subsystem (Perflib).

The current contents of the performance counter string tables are corrupted and cannot be displayed. To correct the problem, rebuild the string tables.

User Action
To rebuild the string tables, on the computer that displayed the message, at the command prompt, type Lodctr /r
The contents of the string tables are automatically rebuilt.

I hope this helps
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Since this was from 2008 (XP?) and the other response was for Vista I wanted to see if the guru's at SevenForums thought that this was okay before I did this.

Here are the screenshoots of my two errors.

Answer:After BSOD Event Viewer Logs Event ID 3012 and 3011 every time I boot

Rebuilding the string tables as outlined in my first post fixed the problem.

Hi,

I was hoping somebody could offer an insight on the below, as searching around I've not found much to go on other than "overheating"

Basically my laptop has been having very high temperatures for a long time (usually ~60C for CPU and often 100-110 for GPU...insanely high, in other words) For example, see how hot the machine gets just by resuming from a sleep (this is all within a minute or so):

I have been seeing the following error in event viewer each time I start Windows (4 entries) for some time:

So today I bit the bullet and had the back cover off the laptop and noticed what a bad state the thermal compound was in, for both the CPU and the chipset chip, so wiped it off using TIM Cleaner, and then applied new thermal compound and put the laptop back together. I was actually shocked because for the first time since I can remember, I could feel cold air blowing from the vents of my laptop! I logged into Windows and noticed that my temperatures had fallen and were staying at around the below:

Not as low as I'd like but a massive improvement. Trouble is, I am still getting the WHEA-Logger event errors in Windows Event Viewer ('processor core') and wondered if this was not in regards to overheating after all?

The plus side is my laptop is now almost totally silent - the way it must have been when I bought it new 3 years ago! But I was wondering how to investigate these WHEA-Logger errors, if anyone has any advice that'd be great.

Answer:WHEA-Logger event 18/19 errors in Event Viewer (W7 Home Premium)

First, well done on applying the thermal paste to the cpu/gpu. I assume you cleaned the vents as well. Did you use arctic silver 5 (just curious)?

I wonder if the processor could have been damaged from the heat. Are you experiencing any BSODs or other problems? You can run Prime95 to test your system. And Furmark for gpu.

After too many unexplained problems, I decided to reinstall Windows 8.1 Pro x64, and migrate off of SBS 2011 Standard. In addition to the primary workstation that can't read any event logs, I built five Server 2012 R2 servers (Hyper-V host, Active Directory
VM, Exchange 2013 VM, SQL Server 2014 VM, and WSUS VM).

I was diagnosing why my workstation's Outlook cannot reach the local Exchange Server. I tried to look at the event logs, and found the
Event Viewer cannot open the event log or custom view. Verify that Event Log service is running (it is) or the query is too long (whatever that indicates). The request is not supported (50)
Looking at the directory of the event logs folder. It appears that most logs are empty, which is understandable since it's a rebuilt installation. I found a small number of Applications and Services Logs and it appears nothing was logged since

It's been a while since I've experienced a BSOD as I'm viewing a video on youtube. It would freeze as if the audio was caught in mid-stream then BSOD, then would restart automatically. I go to Event Viewer after windows as loaded and I see Event 41 Kernel-Power in there.

I had this issue before and we found out that the motherboard was causing the issue. I have also replaced my video card and added additional memory and expanded to 16gb. Before, I only have 8gb.

Ran sfc/scannow with no errors found. Going to do chkdsk as well.

It's strange because this does not happen at all when I'm playing online games or even just standard browsing. It's when I play videos on youtube that there would be instances where this would happen. There are other times where I can view them without any issue at all.

Any ideas would be great.

Also, how can I attach the windows DMP file to scale it down as it is just really large?

Thanks again guys.

My Thinkpad W520 has been having an issue where it restarted prompytly and unexpectedly. I thought the issue might be related to the OS or Video driver, and ended up doing clean OS install with no luck. I ran the basic HW tests using Lenovo's utility and the memory, motherboard, and hard disk showed up as healthy. To me, this seems to be a HW issues, but I am not able to isolate the cause of the problem. Any advice would be appreciated.

Answer:W520 Restarts Unexpectedly With No Related Event in the Event Viewer

Look in the event log. See if there is an error at the time of the restart. I would do 3 things:1) Run a memory test (probably already done)2) Run a HDD test (Do long test)3) Install TPFANCONTROL to monitor temperatures

System event not recording anything. It is empty, says "date is invalid(13)".

I have some flaky things going on like unexplained CPU spikes causing slowdowns and mouse drag. Also have video problems screen going blank then recovery.

I have reloaded video drivers to no avail. No system lockups or BSODs. I need to see system event log to debug. Other event logs OK. I am proficient on PC and have searched for event log problem. The Event Log service is running. Thanks.

EDIT: ARGH, sorry, meant to post this in General Discussion forum, I have no idea if it is a network issue.

Hello everyone,

I keep seeing this error appear several times a day, even during idle, in my Event Viewer. I did a clean install of build 10586 less than a month ago. I'm not having any overt issues yet, but the error is disturbing.

I have spent a few hours researching this and I can't find any reports of similar issues or even what the file metastore\meta.edb is for. Is this hopefully one I can just rename and it'll automatically create a new one?

Welcome to the forums Marioo!

Have you tried a system restore to a point before these errors started? (Easiest things first) You could also try a sfc/scannow, to find and possibly repair any corrupted system files. We have many fine tutorials here at the forums, written by some very knowledgeable people, heres a link to one if you haven't did this before :

Every time I boot my laptop I get error message Event ID 11 in Event Viewer. The details are:

Custom dynamic link libraries are being loaded for every application. The system administrator should review the list of libraries to ensure they are related to trusted applications.

This is listed under AppInit_DLLs in the registry and the dll being loaded is nvinitx.dll, from what I can find out this has to do with the optimus function on my laptop and having it loaded is okay. I just want to get rid of the error message being logged everytime I boot.

While playing war thunder on steam my screen went black and i couldn't do anything. I restart my computer and play again it crashes. After one more time i look at my event viewer and find critical error event ID:41. I don't whether its the game or my pc.

Answer:BSOD playing war thunder, Event viewer event 41

Critical error - Event ID 41 is (most likely) when you forced the system to restart (usually by holding the power button down).

You have a NETGEAR WG111v3 Wireless-G USB Adapter:

I do not recommend using wireless USB network devices. Especially in Win8/8.1 systems.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7 and later - using Vista drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
Should you want to keep using these devices, be sure to have Win8/8.1 drivers - DO NOT use Vista drivers!!!
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.

I noticed that you don't have Secure Boot and/or UEFI enabled. If you were having problems with it and changed it, please let us know.

It's not necessary to enable it now. But, should you reinstall Windows at some point in the future, please enable it first.

I mention this because it may happen that (one day) the system won't boot. This can be caused by a program changing your UEFI settings, or an update of the UEFI resetting it to default values.

To test and see if this is the cause, boot into the UEFI and see if the settings have been changed. If uncertain, try with Secure Boot both on and off (and the UEFI on UEFI or Legacy (CSM))

If it still doesn't boot after trying this, then move on to other troubleshooting tools as it's not likely to be due to this.

My computer seemed to be running more slowly after the Creators update, so I went into the error viewer and found a ton of errors with the source EapHost, Event ID 2002. From Googling around, I found that this error can be caused by leftover keys from Cisco software, so I went ahead and deleted two of the keys referred to in the error logs, and the errors associated with those keys stopped popping up. However, there's a third error that keeps popping up:

Skipping: Eap method DLL path validation failed. Error: typeId=21, authorId=311, vendorId=0, vendorType=0

The trouble is that this doesn't give me enough information to figure out which key I need to delete. It refers me to a node in the registry called WLANProfileCreationUXAuth. There are six subfolders under that one, and some of them contain keys that I can't delete. (Stupidly, I tried, but the system wouldn't let me.)

What I'm wondering is this: how can I figure out which of the specific keys I need to delete? None of them refer to Cisco, as far as I can see.

From what I understand about the event log in Windows 7, when someone tries and is unsuccessful when logging into the computer the event log should record an event id 4625. Every time I boot my laptop I get error message Event ID 10 in Event Viewer. The details are:

Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor"AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. A week ago I started getting this warning errors logged three to six times or more per day in Event Viewer.

Event Viewer Warning - Source is e1yexpress - Event ID is 27
Intel(R) 82567V-2 Gigabit Network Connection Link has been disconnected.

Every time Event Viewer logs the e1yexpress warning it follows up with this logged warning
Event Viewer Warning - Source is DNS Client Events - Event ID is 1014
Name resolution for the name isatap.home timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

Not every time, but a lot of times Event Viewer also logs this warning right after it logs the isatap.home warning.
Event Viewer Warning - Source is DNS Client Events - Event ID is 1014
Name resolution for the name teredo.ipv6.mocrosoft.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

Today I installed updated drivers for my Intel(R) 82567V-2 Gigabit Network Connection, but after 11 hours of no logged error warnings they started up again and I got three sets of the above logged in a 90 minute time frame.

My system is two years old and as far as I know I have never had these errors logged before.

My motherboard is a Asus Rampage III Extreme.

Any ideas on how to get event viewer to stop logging these? A google search really did not offer any real clues on what to try other than updating my Intel(R) 82567V-2 Gigabit Network Connection drivers, which did not solve the problem.

Answer:Event Viewer Warning - Source e1yexpress - Event ID 27

Well after trying everything google came up with to try, including updating drivers to the latest version, rolling drivers back to the default Win7 version, disabling SIPS and a few others things I decided to call Verizon and see what they had to say. As soon as I told Verizon Tech Support that my error code was "e1yexpress - Event ID is 27
Intel(R) 82567V-2 Gigabit Network Connection Link has been disconnected", they told me not our problem take your PC to a shop. I called back a couple of hours later and talked to a different person and this time I only said that I was getting the Event 1014 time out errors. They had me do a few things in a cmd prompt and then said we do not know, but we can send you a router, I said fine, I will try the router.

Well it has been over a week since installing the new router and no error codes at all so it was the router!

My Win 7 Pro x64 system just started acting up. When I select an event in the Event Viewer, the More Information: Event Log Online Help link doesn't open IE10. When I click on the link, the Event Viewer pop-up confirmation box open to confirm sending information across the internet, but when I click "Yes" the box goes away and I get a momentary indication from the cursor that the action is processing then nothing. It will not change the active IE10 page or open IE10.

Is there a solution with out a system restore?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Answer:Event Viewer Event Log Online Help Links don't function

I don't know much about this kind of stuff - but here is what I dug up using Microsoft's Process Monitor and Process Explorer.

The mmc app (event viewer) sends info to one of the svchost instances (netsvcs).

Svchost writes some info to the registry about a scheduled task and then runs that task.

This starts taskeng - which starts wscript.

Wscript runs a temporary VBS file that is supposed to send a URL to the operating system (shell).

The OS is supposed to open your default browser.

Here is the contents of the VBS file from my testing:

Code:
Set shell = createobject("wscript.shell")
Shell.run """C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\tmp78C0.url"""

You might try SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

And let's hope that some other forum member can suggest things that you should check.

Not sure if this is the right section, if not please move to the correct one.

Under the details tab in Event Viewer when a logged event has a GUID that shows up in the registry under HKEYLM > System > CurrentControlSet>Control>WM>Autologger>EventLog-XX I know how to disable the event from logging, but Event ID 15 - ACPI does not have a GUID.

Does any one know how I can get this to stop logging? From what I have seen on the web only a fix to the motherboard BIOS would fix it and I doubt that this is high on Asus' list of BIOS fixes for the R6E. Everything I have read on the web says that this is meaningless and in the General tab it basically says to ignore it so I would like to get this to stop logging in Event Viewer.

Answer:Userenv, Event 1000 Error in Event Viewer

HI!
This helped me when I had the same problem...check it out.
User Profile Hive Cleanup Service
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6D-8912-4E18-B570-42470E2F3582&displaylang=en

Overview
The User Profile Hive Cleanup service helps to ensure user sessions are completely terminated when a user logs off. System processes and applications occasionally maintain connections to registry keys in the user profile after a user logs off. In those cases the user session is prevented from completely ending. This can result in problems when using Roaming User Profiles in a server environment or when using locked profiles as implemented through the Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP.

On Windows 2000 you can benefit from this service if the application event log shows event id 1000 where the message text indicates that the profile is not unloading and that the error is "Access is denied". On Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 either event ids 1517 and 1524 indicate the same profile unload problem.

To accomplish this the service monitors for logged off users that still have registry hives loaded. When that happens the service determines which application have handles opened to the hives and releases them. It logs the application name and what registry keys were left open. After this the system finishes unloading the profile.Click to expand...

Hope it works as well for you!
